"With Kyle Brandt. The Ringer and spotify is how you can get that great chat with Rudd. Paul. Ride. Last week don't like I mean he is one of the most delightful human beings on the planet as you know. An I did not know that story about him with Neil diamond would you please scare to? Reveal that for those who might not have heard that story from Paul at the Great Paul Rudd as as many actors did started some jobs that he wasn't really thrilled with and used to be a DJ primarily at Bar mitzvahs bought mitzvahs. But he said he did one forty year old birthday party and part of his obligations as the DJ is to do a little paperwork to work the room to have make sure everyone's having a nice time. So he played a little Wang Chung and stepped away from the deejay booth and he said that by some coincidence, Neil diamond was an attendee at this party. So he walks up to neil diamond says Mister diamond are you having fun tonight and yes I am and he said well more importantly are you weighing in chunks? Neil diamond without blinking says, well, I always try to Wang Chung anytime I go out to a party it's very important and agent. Total bad ass. Does not miss a beat. It was it was the perfect. Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp alleyoop from the guy who would become bryant fantastic and ant man. So the guy who's things forever in blue jeans that's history, right? Oh my gosh just fantastic. Never thought they would be then that's Again, that's why that's why pod like yours is great and why I'm sure again, Simmons was attracted to the whole concept is that have Paul Rod Neil Diamond Wang Chung and and Dj -ing all in one story that is that's that's the good stuff right there. You know. and. So who is coming up on your pod? Well. So we've done. Aaron Rodgers bad leadoff just then we tired Matthew then. Paul rudd out kirk cousins, and now we're into kind of parts unknown rich. Understand this I've told you this for years. I think you still have one of not the best book shows in the industry every time I'm invited to come on. I'm like. Daniel Day Lewis pullout or something like that is. The here and now. We have an episode do next Wednesday and we have none recorded and nobody book all joy out there casting the nets and chumming the waters. Okay. So if you booked the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears Week One, who would that be? I think it's GonNa be Mitch Course. It has come on you and I both know it is. Here's why it might not be I. I gotta I gotTa thought on this rich and hear me on this gets into the psyche of bears, fans, and also Matt Nagy. The. Question. There's two questions one who's going to start of course. But then the big question is they get prepared to play Detroit week one. How long has the leash year? When does the Shepherd Hook come out I? Mean we've seen starting guys start. We want to be benched at halftime if Mitch trubisky starts and let's say they lose the Detroit. He doesn't play great. Is there already a fervor in Chicago because this is no. Ordinary backup quarterback this is the guy with the statue who makes miracles when he comes off the bench I, think if foles wins the job I, don't think there's a clamoring for Mitch even a full struggles the bears fans at seen mets. They know what? He isn't what he isn't but if Mitch wins it, there's a very small margin of error before the put in the statue guy off the sideline comes in that question's GonNa be. To start. But if we're if we're talking and we are obviously talking about, yeah, we're talking about. What's easiest to start with and then not go and then what's most difficult to? pull the plug on. Obviously it's more difficult to pull the plug on Mitchell than it is on foles and it's much easier to. To. Start. Foles in regards to okay. This is a guy who won the super bowl and we're going to try and win football. We're going the guy who gives us the best chance to win but if it's difficult to most difficult to pull the plug on Trubisky, you can't do it part of week. Want you just flat out? CAN'T I? I think that the? Bears still deep down whether it's Ryan Pace I don't know if it's Nagy anymore but it's Ryan pace or it's you know the ghost of Papa Bear I don't know what it is, but they are just still hoping against hope that Mitchell trubisky the guy that took such a major leap forward in the year that Nagy one coach of the year four. They're hoping that guy still there and they cannot. They cannot say, let's just go with Nick foles right here. I don't think that's that's the case call that's. How it could be pace, it could be George. Chalice. But the the the case for foles here to win the job is Nagy saying screw it I'm done I did not draft Mr Bisky. I was I was in the room and took my homes and they took trubisky trubisky is I married into this one? This is my step child I love him but I am not Mitch Trubisky's father. This is this is not The Guy I drafted and I'm not messing around this year I'm not doing nate I'm not doing nine seven I brought foles here because I got a history with them and I'm done with Mitch, if he says that I could I could I could understand and he's I don't care who they drafted I wasn't here when it happened I'm going with my guy that's full shot I think it would make sense for Nagy. You know it's interesting Kyle. Just bring up. Down One once again here you know that fornet getting released and then went through waivers completely. The Jaguars had a shot at Mahomes and Watson to. just like the bears and the bears get so much grief I just don't know if again it's Chicago's a different media than obviously Duval County but. Would the bears take fornet? Do you think? What do you think? I don't think so I I, it's it's fascinating to me man rich the four Neta sitting at home right now. I mean that's the guy had more yards in desert McCook last year he's twenty five. He was I think he's one of the five or six best college running backs. I've ever seen did the Auburn on that Saturday was a hilarious display and he's been productive and now nobody wants them I. Don't think the bears are interested because I don't think the Montgomery injury is that bad and I think they're going to do some creative things in the meantime and I just don't think they're into that business I just. These running backs man I if minor for that was around in nineteen ninety one. In thirty carries a game and all the money in the world and he's he's celebrated, and now it's unless you do crazy magical things like McCaffrey Derrick Henry it's just not happening and all these guys saquon Nick. Job. All these guys coming down the Pike Kamera. Obviously, the teams are looking at them like We just saw super bowl in which the two running backs for Damian Williams and he sturt. So we're just getting a little cramped in our check writing hand right now and I get it. But now that he's gone through waivers, he is one would say dirt cheap you know it would take I. Should I think I'm making steelers steelers should grab them right now. steelers should grab. Data love have. carries. With exact honoring the titans already have. Derrick. Henry and. And you know that that, I, don't know maybe I guess that he could take the carries from Henry to make sure it doesn't get carries the type of guys like Gimme, Gimme me that twentieth give me that thirtieth carry 'cause I'm tougher tougher and you're weaker because I've given you all have gotten for twenty and I'm going to get stronger now that for net to me in Pittsburgh, were going to get cold and you need to make sure that big ben isn't throwing. It's seventy yards in the air and it's touchdown and all. Of A sudden, they're back on the field against the Ravens. Right or if Big Ben isn't for some if big Ben does suffer the same fate is say ally and then Phillip last year, and that's the two quarterbacks he's associated with for good reason they drafted together. There is a diminishing return factor for Ben Certainly coming off of that injury fornet with Connor and the rest of that crew..

It's not as good as these four. I don't know. Okay. Which one of those movies have never seen? ooh. I say. I have not seen one of these films I have not seen one of these. Rich Eisen, sharing rich Eisen is not one of these films. Answer right now we're talking about the holes in my movie you know actually i. I'm not here for you that you're you're you're done with stuff you're not done with your holes in your movies you get tons of holes in your movies. About do you I not the greatest film, but at least I admitted citizen Kane F. I again like I said. Eighty years old cannot compare anything made today and I will say this. And put a button in this conversation citizen Kane is so great citizen Kane is. So ahead of its time citizen Kane is still so timely citizen Kane is all that so good one of the first ever directed written acted films, Orson Welles, what he did was so groundbreaking that it. However old it is. Still, Yup. Still. Requires. A spoiler alert. That's how good it is. Okay and ahead of its time in nineteen forty one, it would have been color. Okay. Guys like Oh my over it. Chris Brockman. Everybody that's I'd take me. Citizen Kane should have been in color and Russell Westbrook should be deactivated prior to tonight's game seven are low thir-. True. Know what he's talking to thank you Mr Jones. From NBC sports were here on NBC sports on Peacock. Everyday from twelve to three eastern were simulcast on NBC as N.. Every single weekday. Our friend from NBC sports. He's so good that one sport cannot contain him from the NHL ON NBC as well as the coverage of the Kentucky Derby that has been delayed for so many months finally will be run on Saturday on ABC NBC at two Thirty PM eastern time our French coury. Eddie. Hi Rich Nice to be with you and yeah, the first Saturday in September not the first Saturday we're going to have the run for the roses and. Looking forward to being a part of our NBC's coverage and I. Guess You said You brought me in as we're talking about tanneries. Yes. If ever if if Bruce cast is the head coach of the Boston. Bruins. As ever has a movie about him and his life I think the perfect gentleman to play him with Kiana. Cannery. Look at that. You sit there and go you know what you got something. So okay I'll take ten percent off ten percent of that. APP. Eddie we're just GONNA lay that one down I mean. I. I. Know Canada's Really Age. So I think it kind of works right? You know it Kinda does it kind of works right here yeah absolutely. Okay everything's fine. Thank you for asking where you know. We're we're muddling through Let's let's start with the hockey world at Let's start with what you think of what's going on in the bubble and how you think fans has affected the no I guess home-ice advantage how you think that is affected the way things have played out for Lord Stanley's Cup so for. Full disclosure currently in quarantine in the Edmonton bubble right now, cat just got here a couple of days ago. So a couple more days of quarantine and meeting can't leave my room they come and test me every every day once a day and. Once I am clear then I'll be able to get among the the NHL. In the bubble and be able to get to work and do the OAKS coverage Derby coverage for us and also the hockey coverage, but as far as the Games I. Honestly, rich a man I. Think they've been. They've been very entertaining I. I think the the understanding that yeah. There there are fans but as a player and having played in the League as long as they did for sixteen years is no disrespect to the two I think are the best fans all the sports is that When you're playing it really in hearing. You're not thinking. You're not. You know you're you're not wandering right you. You don't know you're just playing the only time. You know there's fans is after either something happens and you're sitting on a bench. Looking, into an empty arena or what have you? So I think the mental talent for all of these sports, not only the national hockey for the Wmba the NBA Matron Baseball, whatever else we got going soccer's that. It's that you know understanding that you've got a job to do but also respecting knowing that we've got a lot going on in the real world and we hear entertain and that's for US broadcasters as well. But I think for the most part, the Games have been pretty pretty darn good. I think been entertaining I think that the teams are are all in and we were down to you know we're down to seven. Seven teams right now and cacophony the force Louise were on the brink and all those teams stayed off. Elimination, and now we're GONNA have a bunch of games sixes. So all in all I think it's been pretty good and oh by the way, a tip, a hockey helmet to the national hockey they've done an amazing job in both bubbles in Toronto and in it's in. Leadership of the Commissioner Mr Batman Bill Daley the Deputy Commissioner, the Board of Governors players the Players Association return to play committee and all the medical people they're hoping through. It's been It's been amazing to be to see what's taking place I think hockey hands have been entertained and at the end of the day rich steps that's what we all want..

"Think you probably didn't get more like three to five meaning. If you bet five win three, so you put eight bucks. In your pocket, no matter about a minute and forty eight seconds, which think that people over Wall Street would probably take that every day of the week if you can turn five eight for every minute and forty eight seconds, you're working. But how do you turn a three to five shot rich into? Eight or nine to one and that's my goal is a handicapper and most handicappers. How can you do that? You can do that by. Exact is getting exact order. The top two finishers TRIFECTA getting the top three finishers, so there's value there If you don't his law, you're going to get paid, but he certainly looks like the Horse. aright ultra have the floor. How do you turn that into eight two one nine to one you? Got The floor well. You know it's funny. Richie just mentioned eight to nine to one and the two horses that I'm actually going to build. All of my tickets around are the eight nine horse. His the laws eight horse, it'd be the favorite, and I'm also GONNA use the nine horse. Dr Post who is trained by Todd Pletcher who has won the Belmont it seems like a million times and one of the top conditioners we have in our sport and the horses owned by Bennie Viola who to own the Florida, Panther so a little hockey erris. Own some really good horses. He wanted to Kentucky Derby a couple of years ago with always dreaming, and he won the Breeders Cup classic last year with Russell, so he's he knows his way around the bar and he's got some good horse, and this is this is a really talented horse who's coming into his own and again rich with the pandemic. Horse racing and all of our lives put on hold for a period of time. No difference horse racing this I would not have made the triple crown a normal year, just because he did not mature, enough or quickly enough to get them to the races, his three-year-old years so I'm GonNa be playing all of my tickets around the eight, nine, nine eight and hopefully turning that three five shot, and Tis the law into eight or nine to one, so advised anybody that's looking to play and get their feet wet to make sure that the US the nine Dr Post so now is is a mandated. Asked this since you say the the owners the owner of the Florida. Panthers is Paul. Is The Post and Dr Post a hockey? Term it the poster I know I think this is more on a personal level for for many in the Santa Life Staples ended is hockey so yeah no. No No. The Post is you know for goaltenders? The only the only people that love the goal poster, the goalie. undersold that. Question. Tie to hockey as far as I. Know what Dr Polls for vital. Vanbiesbrouck was part of the ownership I. Did you know? Arranger guy and I went vanbiesbrouck with Florida. See I'm trying to connect some dots here here here, you. You know okay, so who else which which else? What other horses other than eight nine, might you? Might you consider here? I think you gotTa look at I think you gotTA. Look at the two horse. Sola Allante, horse that now is. This I mean this is. This is old school. racing here This horse ran only ten days ago. Which twenty five and thirty five years ago. That seems to be pretty normal. Where horses ran, just thoroughbreds ran if they were ready ten days fifteen days after a race. Now this is the horse that will probably be coming from a good distance out of it rich, but sources doing very well. I don't think Patrick being calling the trainer would be would be sending this horse in this situation The horse finished second in the Tampa Bay Derby, to King Guillermo who happens to be owned by Victor, Martinez Longtime Major League all star player for a long time. He owns that Horace King Guillermo. Who might be right now rich? Victor he might have the second made. Probably has the third best horse three-year-old right now in training ready for the Kentucky Derby so an interesting storyline for viewers and listeners out there, but I I would say you have to use the two horses well the one horse topic to wins got a lot of speed, but I think there's some other speed in here. That might put a little bit of pressure so I'm going to build a legacy I'm gonNA. Majority of my tickets are on eight nine, but I think. You certainly have to use a two-horse. Soleil Volante maybe horse underneath? Okay all Righty, so do you take down Chris? You take that down your overall. Okay, all right? Our Buddy Hank Goldberg a pneumatic. And he likes. What does it in modernist number? After after after hammer and in yours, truly we we've got a covered I. Mean we? We've got. We've got half the field. So, what does that tell you okay? Go ahead, but the other. No, no, don't say that you know, but you brought it. Just like Hammer did yesterday where you not only give us your thoughts and maybe can make some people. Some money brought some another wonderful story Yours is uplifting in the fact of your beautiful son Who's now going to give you a grandchild? thought that the entire. Parade for the Rangers was for him and his birthday. That's a wonderful, lovely beautiful story. Just the on the opposite side Hank Goldberg recounted the time that Jimmy. The Greek slapped Brent musburger across the face so that that's on the other things so you but you both brought. It is what I'm saying and we appreciate it. Both circle. We got it all. We got it all covered on richeisenshow. Just Gretna, just glad to be very small piece of. Eddie I love when you're on, so thanks for the call. We'll have you on again real soon. Be Wealthy. You'll be well to Eddie Olczyk joining us here. Eight nine exact exact box eight nine. He likes it. To their..

Coming grandfather for the first. Couple, of week Patti my older son, Eddie my daughter-in-law Erica or a couple of weeks away from Bringing a new fall into this world. And we're looking obviously very excited and hard to believe that My my oldest son turned thirty one yesterday and the quick story, if I could rich. Back in the day in my hockey playing days, I was a member of the New York Rangers back in one, thousand, nine, hundred, ninety four, remember we. We won the Stanley Cup and did in the celebration our Family Cup parade happened to be on. June the seventeenth of nineteen, ninety four, and all the families assembled the Madison Square Garden to get on the buses to take us to the floats to go down. In Manhattan Wall Street and Canyon of Champions. What have you so? All the families were there at that time. I had two very young children. My oldest son Eddie, who happened if that happened to be his birthday, June seventeenth of nineteen, ninety four, but he was born in eighty nine, so he was five years old. Obviously, my son Tommy, so we're on the floor and it's about ninety degrees out. I got my sweater on. My. You know it's got my shorts on and flip flops in like a thousand degrees, you got three billion people out there and celebrating the Rangers I compensate for years and I don't know maybe about a mile end of the trip rich my my signed that he my oldest son, whose birthday was that day just? Tugs on my shorts and Kinda. You know waves me down because he's a little, you know. And I leaned on, and he says Dad I go. Yeah, what's up because? Thanks for inviting all these people to my birthday party I was like. What the rest of your day the rest of your life nobody's going to be a letdown because I don't think they let the. Chucky cheese here. There's. There's there's no canyon of heroes and chucky cheese I don't think. So you know, we we. We actually spent some time together yesterday and just kind of reminisce I'm like we're in. The Hell is twenty six years gone and you've got to be a dad here in a couple of weeks. I'm GONNA grandfather, so yeah, so really cool. Since we're, we are talking about the sport of horse racing here If you're a grand child is about to be sired. Do you get a stuffy? Yes, or no all I know. It's probably cost me about two million dollars. I don't think. Rich, as we say in the lingo around the house I don't I, don't I? "Murray scores and overtime general manager of the ducks Murph scores and over time we went six five. We beat the Rangers. It's pouring rain at night. I'm lapping lapping Madison. Square Garden. Trying to find this young lady Diana and she's not there I'm like wow. She gave me the nine of hearts like this. You know the cost me one hundred and forty two bucks for the tickets. Yes I'm like. Wow that's it so I call her apartment or whatever and on the other line when I that night I just. I'd call up his first time. I had called her and all of a sudden I hear hello. I'm like some Guy Answers to fall. I'm like you know I'm a little taken back by Diana home. Nah I think she went on a trip or whatever so I just took it as she left for a trip and had to go working so so we ended up hooking up some. I don't know maybe seven weeks later. She actually found out where I was staying in in Vancouver believe it or not in Vancouver and I got back late that night so an east coast. It's already one o'clock. It's ten o'clock in Vancouver and the light is blinking on the message and on the phone so I asked the operator I message. She goes yeah a message from a Diana Vickers. I'm like Oh shit. Hold on a second. I'm looking for Japan. I'm looking for a piece of paper. She Like where's your. Where's your papers? You go sir relax I go. You have no pen and paper hold like I thought she was gonNA lose the number right so I hold on a second so I just improvise. I went into the bathroom. I grab the bar soap and I just wrote her number ponding on the mirror in the room there Long Story Short we We ended up hooking up a couple of weeks later and Chicago had her first date and the next night I happened to score two goals in my very first playoff game against the Detroit Red Wing so e that hundred and forty two dollars probably turned into about fourteen million so I just have to say Jeff Credible think about that story story which is a great story is he went on a date the night before your first playoff game we'd curfew on for a nice dinner and you know and got a kiss on the cheek and the kiss for luck and we're on our way and I scored two goals against the Detroit Red Wings In my very first playoff game so I said you know what but her Mary this girl and we did I. I'm curious what did you learn about her through your cancer. You mentioned you know you never saw her any signs of weakness You never ever saw her. You know soften at all very positive but what did you learn about your wife as a person I think I learned that she I was going to stand next to me in my battle. She was GONNA stand right in front of me and be the one to take me by the hand and help me get through this and understand that I was at my weakest ish probably ever seen in my life because Jeff. When you're when you're sick like that you feel like you've let everybody down you feel less you feel weak you feel you can't comprehend it and you you feel like you're wearing everybody and I think for her I always knew that she was strong in always knew that she would have be able to to say the right thing. But I I think that that strength she showed and delivered to me into our family at our at our most troublesome time to show the type of person that that she is and there's no doubt that she is is a lot of my my former teammates and I say former friends now now in tongue in cheek. But you know we know who's the toughest person in the Olczyk family and I'll be forever grateful for what she was able to do. But I I really believe is that she. He wasn't gonNA stand behind me or a next to me. She was going to stand in front of me in guide me through and I needed that. Want to move on because I think Eddie Olczyk life is a lot more than just the last couple of years. Even though it's incredible battle that you fought so I remember Jeff in two thousand twelve Stanley Cup have final which was Kings devils we go out for dinner one night and Glenn Healy Still Working Hockey night in Canada. And he says L.. Just GonNa come with us and we're like okay great and you know when Glenn comes out for dinner. The Chardonnay is gonNA flow. And that's when I realized like you Ed doesn't drink and you've never had a drop of alcohol in your life three times three Tari childcare when I was seven set my dad's lap full disclosure Seven just my dad was drinking. I tried and I spent it all over him and then like that too is when won. The Stanley Cup had the from Stanley Cup. In ninety four and then My son got married On August fourth twenty eighteen oddly enough one year to the day that I was diagnosed with cancer and my son Eddie Him and Erica and I drink saw That night so only three times on purpose that I've ever drank that night and don't smoke so I joked like what's your device and I like to gamble but this man likes to gamble and I know the truth. You Love Broadcasting Hockey but when NBC you put you on the Kentucky Derby or the preakness or the Belmont or breeders. Stay Breeders Cup. Yeah Yeah that is your true true love. You love the horses I do. It is a passion. It's always been a passion. I thought you were GonNa ask me about my my fifty to one ticket on the Tennessee. Titans win the Super Bowl. I thought you were GonNa ask me about that. They're not gonNa vote actually is last the third with three weekends left to go in the NFL regular season. I got him a fifty fifty to one. And what did you put down a couple of bucks. All I know I would be able to buy that sweater a couple of times that I just have to say this for for the record. Okay I don't know I forgot. We were doing this so I would've cat. I know I remember. I remember we were with me. I remember we were doing in the interview. I forgot we were doing it on camera so I didn't shave and I'd be comfortable sweater. Would however you feel about very I know so it looks better reversed say this is his I'm really I really WANNA be. Jasper we've got a couple of hickeys there on your neck there. It's great about the TURTLENECK. Look at some old video of me when I played for the leafs. I used to love the TURTLENECK. APPLIC- Habit I love. WHOA wait a second plazas? How old that's true a little respect? Okay good nights with the With the turtle neck by the way anytime I see a guy get a five point game in the NHL now Mike. Wow Yeah. That's pretty good. It's pretty good. When he got the six point? Two six point games he had enough. You know that the back in the day horse racing's always been a passion. My it's always been my release. It's always been anybody that knows me. I've owned horses Getting an an opportunity work for NBC in their triple Crown Coverage. It's been absolutely incredible. I've been there five years now for the for NBC's coverage of the triple crown. My first year triple crown third year. Triple Cross I've seen two triple crowns and five years where we waited for one hundred years thirty seven years to see a triple crown winner. But like I said it's it's a passion of mine it always has been and I'm very thankful for the opportunity and I think it's helped my hockey. I really do. I think it's helped my hockey broadcasting testing from the aspect of You know it it forces me to do something outside my comfort zone So I try to bring some of that what. I've learned there to the hockey broadcast and get a chance to work with obviously DOT Emerson. Brian Boucher on an HR NBC. And do the games down there as well see. I grew up in the era Elliott. Same where there's a point in the seventies where the two biggest ports in the world were horse racing and boxing and they both taken a knee censor. Where did your love of horse racing come from? The first day I went to the racetrack was twelve years old. Thirteen years old. They went with a A team mate of mine who eventually went up played in Stratford. I played junior. Barack Trafford Antero with the Collins The late any flanagan again. We just passed away. Some fifteen months ago brought myself. Danny Hillis The goaltender Marc Lavar. Who played a few years? In National Hockey League they brought us up to Stratford it. But Danny's dad was a big horse player and when I was twelve or thirteen one day summer hockey would ever use a horse play. We went out to old Arlington Park Racetrack and went in there. And I see these incredible animals just cruising up and down the track at twenty five thirty miles an hour these crazy men and women jumping on the backs of these horses going on up and down I was just I was taken from that day. And then you know you make a couple of wagers and you lose a couple of times and then you go back and you know you you get your money and then can you give the the ticket-taker you're winning ticket. And he looks at new goes. How old are you go? Well you didn't ask me how old I was. When I lost my eight Bucks Oxen let me be on with us here get a couple of bucks for the tip and he gave me a wink and I was on my way so but but I think it was just the initial beauty that I saw jeff with horseracing? What's the most you've ever won or lost today at the track probably lost a few thousand couple thousands? I mean sometimes you have day does good. Sometimes it goes one day I had a At one hundred sixty eight dollar investment that turned into a half Schmil so my God I got even actually so that was good. I remember what I said about Dan. Old checks all right. More pairs of black shoes and jeans Dini is this. This is why I need need to call the locksmith. or any as you're right Ed. Yeah I did want to ask you about the since you referenced. Him Some in some legendary hockey players players that have gone through Strafford as we all know that would have been William Allman arena. So that is one of the longest standing and longest continuous serving hockey rinks in Canada. I think golf is the oldest William Allman Is the second. What are your memories of playing there? I'll at that time at that time of your life. I remember leaving Chicago as a fifteen year old hockey player going up to the hockey hotbed of Canada and going into staffer Ontario driving into Stratford from Toronto population. Twenty seven thousand. I remember that in that was eighty one eighty two. I'm not mistaken No it wasn't eighty two eighty three eighty two eighty three. And I'm like all right. Well we've got three ugly Americans coming to Canada to twenty seven thousand three three and And being the greatest decision I ever made for my hockey career because I was going to play against older guys I was just turning sixteen and I wanted to play against better. Competition and Stratford had a great track record of developing hockey players. Mr Mrs Flanagan and we went there and the old Midwestern Ontario Junior B League and traveling and donate school and still stay in contact with my billets Ted Marian Turford who her in Stratford and it was so exciting and exhilarating the goto place like like that in the play in front of three thousand people every night and To have your own locker room and you know to be talked about in the newspaper and on the Radio Joe and again this was all new to me but I knew that all the is Romy and look I was going into a league. Were playing against men. We were going up against nineteen and twenty roles and they want to sit during grabbed his American kid. That's performing well and setting all kinds of records and they wanNA put me into the eighth or tenth row or put me into the Strafford River. I mean that was just. It's the reality of it but it jeff it really it. Put me on the map and the next year. I got drafted second round by Lavalle of of the Quebec major junior league. Of course Mariel was there at that time. got drafted in the first round by the Marley's the only team I didn't talk to believe it it or not in the Ontario Hockey League draft And also the Portland. Winter Hawks had my rights out in the West. So it's much different now than it was back then Never forget that Kloden Suzy fornell. who were the owners of the lavelle think they were the titans at the time I think in Marietta was there and they came to Chicago and and They brought in a grocery bag or two when they came and had this visit with us and said we really like you to come to Lavelle and play with Mariel now. I always wonder what would have happened if I would. A went Lavalle and played on a line with Mareo as a a sixteen year old turning seventeen. Look I don't want to say I was this close but my first goal was to make the Olympic team the next year and if I it didn't make the Olympic team I still believe this day is I would went. Played major junior what I went to Lavalle. I don't know what I would play tomorrow. I'm not sure I was this close if I didn't make the US US Olympic team the next year after Strafford. A pretty. Good chance that I would not have gone to college. And I wouldn't have played major junior..

"GMC Sierra zero trucks in Elliott. It is a real pleasure to be sitting across from a smiling and happy and healthy Eddie. Olczyk The book is called beating the odds in hockey and in life. If Pat Foley with the forward it's great to see you really is great to see you. Eddie how're you doing man. Thanks appreciate I always also mentioned Perry left go. Oh sure. Yeah who put the book together and don't bury a long time from my days with the leafs back in the late eighty s and of course period award-winning writer for horse racing. So I don't know from when you play with the lease and he was Toronto. You guys know each other straight stick autograph stick as a as a young kid growing growing up so I I obliged and here. We are writing a book together. So yeah I'm really Thanks for having me and Just really thrilled with how it's kind of been received leave ten Probably going to be the only book I ever do and The one compliment that I've gotten on the book is I've been very open through the whole Thir- everything not only my cancer battle but also through the trials and tribulations I had as young kid trying to make it to the greatest league in the world and was able to do as a player as a coach and now as broadcaster. How tough was it to relive a lot of? What she was out now was hard? Yeah I think the one thing Jeff for me. The reflection that I was able to have of going through the book I think it was writing. The book was very therapeutic. When I was going through in the heart of this was written one? How was going through my cancer battle? Back in August of twenty seventeen and then taking the Chemo Treatments until February twenty first at nine oh two. Am when the last time. I get unhooked with my chemo. It took took me back I was very much a piece when I was going through the Chemo. I mean I was scared. I'm still scared. Cancers always GonNa be with Eddie Olczyk and his family but I was very much apiece and what I mean by that is that you know the the most important people my life of always known how I felt about him and that helped me get through and if if they they came to me and said Okay your time is up. You've been here Fifty one plus years. You live the hell of life It's time to go at least my wife. My Kids my family. My everybody has a circle. My circle everybody knew how I felt about him. And that helped me get through and I tell people I hope you laugh and and I hope you love a little bit more after reading the book you know there's an old saying We each get two lives one when we're born and the second when when we realize we only have one. What did you realize about yourself through all of this but I was in a really good place before I got sick and I think think that's the best way to say it? Jeff really look. I was scared I mean all of a sudden one day I couldn't I couldn't take a crap I mean that's just flat out. I couldn't go to the bathroom and forty forty eight hours later. They're telling me. I have a mass in my colon and we have to go get it and we're going to have to take out fourteen inches your colon and hopefully reconnect the plumbing on any inside. We're GONNA take this mass and tell you what it is So for me. It was going from being healthy and happy and my way to a horse racing event for NBC down in the States stew being in a hospital and Getting driven in an ambulance From the suburbs of Chicago down to northwestern hospital and Having the biggest challenge of my life so I just really believe is that had a time to reflect. When you're sick I had enough? I Tom last me a lifetime and I know we talked about this when I was going through. My battle is just you go through the days. And you're taking forty eight hours of chemo and you're just wondering okay. I want the cliff notes version of this. Let's let's get the six months. Let's let's get on and give me you know no no bullshit like just tell me. Tell me. Tell me what I need to know. Not what I wanna hear and that helped me get through and and the other thing too jeff is I had a chance to reflect and and I'm even more more happy is the right verbiage but I'm I'm more proud and happy of what I've been able to accomplish as a hockey player as a guy in our game I most importantly my family than I was before I got sick because of all that time I had the chance to reflect and I don't think I realized how good of a career that I had until I was going through my cancer battle because like I said I had enough time to think about a lot of things and I think I walk a little bit more proudly now and I don't look at things any differently I mean that's the one thing people ask me like do you look at life differently. You know what I don't I really really don't I and I say that in all due respect I just wasn't a really good place before I got sick and what it reassured me that I was and I had a chance to look back at my career. Go you know what sixteen years in a show playing in the Olympics when I was seventeen drafted by my hometown team the blackhawks being very small part of a team that won the Cup in New York in nineteen eighteen ninety four playing my last game as a Black Hawk and a lot of games inbetween. Some incredible stops Toronto where I really became a player in the league. I got an opportunity to play and play a lot and went to winnipeg not once but twice and how I became a Winnipeg jet is a big part of the book You know going to New York having a cup up a coffee in L. A. Being Pittsburgh and an opening up the door become a broadcaster eventually coaching and and here we are today. That's why why it's so interesting to me for me to hear that you were nervous writing about all this stuff because you speak about it so eloquently. It's not just here on this podcast but it's also I remember last year Glenn Healy honored you with the man of the year award for the Ancho Alumni. That was there that night and you gave a really passionate stirring speech and it's always the thing I remember about you in this Ed when you know you told your wife at one point. I don't know if I'm going to make this treatment to and what did she tell you. Yeah Yeah it was one of those. Where the the Chemo broke me down? It gives you gave me horrendous side effects talking to a lot of cancer patients. Some people that are in the battle of have been in the battle. We talk a lot about that in a really understanding for me. It was severe headaches. I had bad nosebleeds. Develop the blood clot. I had neuropathy where he just start losing. Feeling in your fingers in your feet because of the medicine and for me I would just go to the bathroom lagawe. Just number two without Out even able to control it and I and I told my wife I'm done. I quit now. This is treatment to the September fifteenth at about five o'clock central time in Chicago back in twenty seventeen nineteen and I said I'm done I quit. I'm hooked up to a port. I got a fanny pack. It's hooked up in my chest and this pump is going off every ninety seconds. Just go and aw and that's all I hear like I could have a hockey game on. My wife could be yelling at me. The dogs can be barking. And all I hear is that in in a side effect just broke me down tests. Your will to live and I told my wife I'm done I'm done. I quit and I've never quitted anything my life ever whether it was playing coaching at the racetrack. Down Twenty five bucks. All right scratched out down. Twenty five hundred. I'm not quitting. I'm not Belan. One hour brought me to my knees and my wife grabbed me my wife Diana and grabbed me and she just said look you gotta fight. It was probably the greatest inspirational speech I ever had had. You gotTA fight for me. You got to fight for our kids and I lost when she said you gotta pay for all the people that loved you and I cried. We had a moment which seem the last probably ten minutes but it seemed like an hour and I was like okay Eh. I needed that. I needed that caretaker. A caregiver to grab me and set me straight and I cried a little more. I said okay. I'M GONNA put. Oh my hockey helmet back on. And I'm going to go one day at a time. I got my calendar out and I said okay. I'm going to start setting goals for myself which I did my whole life. Okay okay. I'm going to get back to work here. You know. It's Breeders Cup in early November super bowls right around the corner My daughter's graduating from Alabama. So I just started setting goals for myself that it helped me get back on track. And that's what I encourage anybody out there. That's going through a difficult time or in the battle is to set goals for yourself south because like I said earlier you want the cliff notes version and you want to just get from treatment one treatment nine but I needed that he needed my wife Diana to two straight me up and something we've taken a a big talking about too is the caretakers and caregivers. They're going through a lot as well yes. They're not maybe the physical part art but they're going through a whole lot mentally and I never saw my wife week. saw her down. I never saw her worried around me. an eye goes for my the kids who are in Iran a lot because they're all out doing their things but my folks my brothers. My family The Blackhawks who I do games for in them their support and all my friends throughout the National Hockey League We gotta make sure that as a society we're looking after the caretakers and caregivers because they're going through a lot to my wife was never week around me or down but I know when she wasn't around me she would let her guard down and wonder what the Hell's going to happen to him so we gotta make sure we're checking up on those people as well because they're going through through a lot. I wanted to ask you a little bit more about Dan who have never met Because she had surgery around the same time to write she had back surgery correct. So think about it. You guys a spinal fusion so the two of you are going through you know big medical conditions yourself and as you mentioned she's pulling you through this and I don't WanNa ruin the story in the but we've told that story on the podcast before I got traded to Winnipeg and it's a dynamite story but just tell me about Dan Olczyk because you're on the road a lot you always have been. You've got three great kids you hotels where you guys met and about the relationship between the well. We met my rookie in the National Hockey League. Believe it or not and she was a flight attendant on American Airlines alliances at that time teams release Chicago. We weren't chartering so This is like January of nineteen eighty five and we happen to have an afternoon game in Chicago Kogo that day so after the game. We're on our way to fly to New York the play the next night. So we're I'm driving O'hare and there's a massive accident in between downtown Chicago O'hare airport which is only about maybe seventeen miles and it's brutal and I'm like I'm a rookie. Nhl I better be making this flight. Because I don't need to be hearing it from the team. Forget any fine or whatever you you miss your late or whatever is rookie. You're in big trouble SOM- like I must have probably broke. Maybe four or laws or okay. Fourteen Mazda get to make this flight. I made it and half. The team missed the plane. And I walked on this plane and Diana Vickers. My Wife's maiden name I walked on this plane and she was taken the boarding passes and she was even supposed to work this flight because she was living in New York they just called her from New York to fly in that morning earning she dead headed to work that flight just to go back to New York and I got on that plane and I'm like okay. I saw her name tag was Diana. That's my mom's name. Her maiden name has vickers. I grew up on the street. Make Vickers for like nineteen years of my life. Like wow this is just like would you like to get married. I mean just I eddie. I'm like this is perfect. Right was an open flight and I negotiated myself into an open section and just happened to be the section she was working and so she said I ordered maybe fifteen orange juices that day that day. So that's how we met. We might on an airplane so I asked her if she wanted to go to the ranger game the next night she said she did. I left her two tickets at the box office at Madison Square Garden. And I said look. I'll meet you at the the box office. After the game we win the Game Bob..

"From Utah in partnership with tsn. Welcome to episode fifteen of the Ray and eggs hockey podcast. We've got Eddie Olczyk. And so is arguably one of the best guests that we're GonNa have ray on the podcast. This season Our inaugural season Clearly we tape this interview earlier in the day. We don't want to give too much away rate out of the gate but normally we kind of Balk. What twenty twenty. Five minute gas. Yeah I think we ended up talking heads off for the better part of forty forty five minutes just because he's a great guy but what a terrific message and story to tell What I thought. What's amazing is you'RE GONNA. You will find this interview. I'm almost certain absolutely hilarious And then incredibly poignant and For a good friend of both of ours man it was. It was really something to listen to to all our listeners. You'RE GONNA YOU'RE GONNA love Eddie Olczyk if you didn't know any before you're gonNA love Eddie now. Yeah great stuff coming up with Eddie Olczyk. We've got our throat punch candidates we've got ask Ray and dregs. We've got the usual staples here on the Ray androids hockey. Podcasts is is your microphone okay. I mean it feels like we've got technical difficulties here. Now you're in Winnipeg the time courting you didn't travel the microphone as destructed to travel with the. I forgot that it's on my desk now. You didn't have an adaptor to plug into your Mac pro but now you do have no no so. This is what this is where the real problem was. Unfortunately this was on the video that you guys were watching me. Look for after which I don't have which I don't need hokey because I thought the only way to plug in for the interview into my computer what's to have this adapter attached to my headphones. Okay yeah but I didn't need that. There's just a whole on the other side of the computer like your headphone Jack. But I'm an idiot and I didn't know it was there so it took me a while and I will say it only took me like three tries to find it and you maintain your level of temperament which was impressive You know there is a video element to this. And we're kind of dabbling with the video side of things here ray and dregs hockey podcast But our technical adviser Rob Grade. I I love how tries to coach you through things you know. He's a bit of a guru when it comes to this stuff you know what he needs to be needs to be able to invent some sort of pair of glasses which you're wearing right now as they look at you. That has all of this connected to your glasses so you remember the movie. The jerk years ago at the optic grab he became a millionaire with the and the and the dog's name wasn't tiny was something head to family show. We'll be careful with that but that's honestly because you travel as light as possible as we all do. I mean anybody who checks bag when they're going on a two three day trip you'll find yet. You're you're left for dead so you need the glasses with the microphone. Attached the adapter. That's also attach you just plug your glasses into your Mac pro and while I wouldn't forget anything like seriously. That microphone is sitting on my desk. It's not very helpful there. No An and cameras can pick up the game a little bit because she too is a great influence to the podcast. She gives us unbelievable feedback. Week by week. She's gotTa make sure that that microphone is tucked somewhere near belonging. So I say on. The list of her priorities might is about one hundred seventy third on her list. I understand that. Hey great feedback on Wayne. Gretzky interviewing episode fourteen. So what conversation backed by great guests. And we've got a surprise. You don't even know this So we've got a surprise guest for episode. Sixteen which I'm going to share with you later in the podcast before we get to the news of the day night the podcast which is the Zack Kassian suspension. I I'm going to..

"You know it's like ten fifteen in California twelve fifteen in Chicago watching the races. So I knew Joel and I saw I dialed joe up. And he was out in the East Coast. That's reason to summertime and I picked up I call them and then one ring any picks up the phone he goes. Are you alive you alive and pick through. Yeah he was watching you. We calling me unless you're alive. I'm like all my like. Oh I've never. This is incredible so he goes to the tens GonNa Win GonNa win. It was a half a half ish. No no it was the half Ishmael and he goes at ten is GONNA win. I'M GONNA go. Oh my God ten sure enough now. What made it interesting when they were turning for home? They're probably court three eighths of a mile from the finish line line. The third the third fourth and fifth horses were all the ones that were paying a million five. Like so I mean I I had a thrill and here come who comes circle on the outside but the ten horse in a ten percent. So I I for one hundred sixty eight bucks I got back a half Schmil I got I got even even I don't gamble. I don't pick winners up. I don't really money here. So we we haven't even mentioned is unreal career yet. Now you've got taken third overall Woodson hometown. KIDS CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS LIKE A. How much of a thrill is that? I just I did right. This question is will pardon the phrase but did we shit your pants a little bit like okay now. I'm the man here my own town like what was that was that was. Ah because it never happened before We're all hometown kitted undrafted in the first round and bid in the first pick of you know for his team and an american-born that there was a lot of pressure that way and look we all have favorite teams when we were growing up and have the opportunity to play for them. And for me it was the blackhawks and I got that chances dances in eighteen year. Old Kid and There was a lot of I mean. I probably put more pressure on myself playing at home than they did anywhere else yet. Because my first year I had a good goodyear have fifty points we went to the conference finals against Edmonton unfortunately that was when Edmonton Mall Near. Hey if they gave up six. That'd be okay. Because they will get nine they just just. That's the way they played. Nee Grand Fury goal was arguably as one of the good best goaltenders. We've had in a league in the last fifty years so my first year we went to the conference finals we got we lost four games Sotoudeh Edmonton that. My second year had seventy nine points. I play with Troy Murray incurred phrase. You're on a line occurred for troy. Murray one the Selke Trophy had ninety nine points that year and then my third year started off awful Unfortunately I had a friend taken from us at a At a Apartment building in Arizona And he lost his life and I I I am I really ever had. I shouldn't say had to first time ever went to a service via pallbearer. I I just wasn't in a good place. It's the only thing I can look back on and go. I had such a bad year. This is the third year career. It's my third year. She's also look. I don't know if there's anything to do with this. You does the highest Pimm you had in your career. Don't pissed off fans were getting on me and I was frustrated. Team was winning win. And it's just you're just trying so hard because you don't WanNa let anybody down in your hometown. Right fell every night that I had thirty six thousand eyeballs night. You know. Watch him and and look at. It was a bad year and then the hawks had to make a big trade. We made a big trade with Toronto. So myself and Al Secord went to Toronto for Rick. Five Steve Thomas Thomas and Bob McGill via was the captain of the Maple leafs. Elsie Curtis scored fifty goals. And you know and I was. You know just only my third year but then the next year I went to Toronto Toronto and had my best goalscoring wise. I said forty two goals in my in my career and so what I felt like there was less pressure playing trump I did YEP so which is not I would not trade. Yeah you're right I mean especially today maybe a little different but go looking back. I would not trade anything I mean. I played my first game as the Blackhawks I played my thousand game as Blackhawk because I came back the second time right and then I played my eventually my last game with with a lot of games in between but That that third year was rough and then I was able to bounce back and then come my career really took off in starting from my fourth. It got to hear about this dream you had before your first game. The Blackhawks your dream. I had this look at. We all are playing in the show. And you know you just like I couldn't get my equipment on my dream. Well there you go. That's it that I couldn't skate on those are. That's another tree. I look at I. I would wake up in a cold sweat. Were I'd be late waking up from my nap. Stuck in traffic. I couldn't get into the rank. They wouldn't let me in two parking lot. They wouldn't let me into rank because he eddie Olczyk was already at the rink. And you know and I've had two hundred ten hundreds of times so you know I thought yeah. I thought the trainers you know the guys in the room. You tell them something you know. Everything's confidential it stays in a room and I was like Vegas Right. What happens there you know so I tell? Her trainer skipped there and my rookie year. I tell him this during training camp. I said Hey skip you know. I said that just had this dream. Last night he goes. Well what is it now. Have you ever saw mets skip. Skip was with penguins for a long time to skip skips big guys probably five eleven to twelve like a huge guy. Great Guy Right so he goes. What's what's the dream kit? So I tell them I said I wake up in a panic for my first. I guess I'm late. I'm stuck in traffic. I tried to get into the parking lot the parking lot attendant. We'll let me in security guard won't let me and again they say Eddie Olczyk already here. I'm all nervous as kid kid. Don't worry about dreams. Don't come true or whatever okay so sure enough. I'm getting ready. Played my first game in the NHL. October of eighty four. I'm living at home right. I'm living at home my first couple of years in a show while I'm driving to the rank trump traffic. You know it's fine is I'm getting a little closer to the old Chicago Stadium. Traffic starts getting a little heavier and all of a sudden. It's like okay You know man I remember dream this like there's bad traffic you know and Nelson I pulled into the rink and then the guy goes you know tells me I like wave because I seen this guy. Fifteen eighteen times since training camp started he says. Roll Down Your window my job I go. Who are you? I go I'm Eddie Olczyk. He goes he's already already here. I went now like an hour as wheels. I'm like this. Is this guy going to tell me. I can't park here because you can't park here. I went oh Mike Inception night's show so I'm like come on seriously does not sorry. I'M GONNA look at least kind of parking and try to. Yeah go ahead so he lets me in. So then I go walking gait three and a half. WHO's just private gay for the players and security so I walk in there and the guys in there and spiders gotta run the door and His last name was web. So that's why we call them spider so spiderweb spider's can help you spider. Yes who are you I go. You know like I'm sweating. I'm pitting out now and I'm looking at the client. I ever watched him. I'm like late now now. I'm late this late Aston minutes and he goes let me some. Id because Eddie Olczyk already know called onto the rule. ooh I'm telling you I'm here is now plus to play in this all right. Yeah I have no clue no clue. That's why I love. The trainer was best rule this time. I'm I'm thinking about one thing. Not being late for the meeting. Planning Dreams come true and it finally goes. Yeah go ahead yeah. They said the goal. So now I'm sprinting and I get to the stairs and I start walking down. I'm shaking my head and I'm like I'm floss adult. I'm walking. I walk around a corner. I'm going by the training room. I look in there and I said Hey I skip and and as I'm walking by him I hear he goes. Hey Kid and I kinda back up a second and he goes. Did you have any problem getting into the ring. Aw Oh skip. Decided share too much more with skipping over here that night. What do you mean Moscow to go on my first gained game? Thank you goal in a seven. Three win about the staff visited the stack. I WANNA go back to when you broke broke in you actually broken with a guy. I grew up on the same street as Jackie. O Callaghan guys. Who basically the only American regulars on that roster and? They weren't a lot Americans League back then. Did you guys kind of bond over that at all Jack Actor Care May because he was in Olympia and obviously nineteen eighty team are just the I mean. They opened up the door for US rate they did for for. They opened up the door for are people in an NHL. Say what down there. They got some pretty good hockey players in that team opened up the doors by winning the gold medal and Jack took me under his wing has always been a terrific. A guy and You know yeah. I think that there was that Your I think he gravitate the guys. I'm sure you guys had it. You know certain guys kind of going out of their way. Okay and just making you feel comfortable and and you know guy like Jack Ocalan Troy. Murray was one of those guys for me when I came in. I mean we. We had had some incredible veteran guys. Immediate Denis Savard Steve Larmer Troy Murray Doug Wilson a Ben Wilson Al Secord. I mean we're talking about toughness. We they could play any way you want it like I said we just unfortunately for us. Edmonton was in their heyday. But Jack was. You know a great guy and somebody that I could would lean on or somebody that you know would would look after me of being you know. Young eighteen-year-old can league. What was the Anti American sentiments in the League back then because like I said that weren't very many did? Did the guys to the Canadians give you shit all the time on Right there weren't that many players right. Yeah I mean it was. It was I felt felt it more when I left home when I was fifteen to go up to play junior being Stratford Ontario. Okay I mean I went up there with two other buddies of mine and And we went up there and played in Strafford Play Junior. It'd be hockey and I mean that's where it was kind of more More every day the ugly American or however you want to put a little bit had to fight a little bit. Yeah yeah but I mean it was. It wasn't bad I mean but it's just you feel just more people you know barking and stuff but it really wasn't you know wasn't that bad. WHO's your first? NHL Scrap with with. Somebody asked me that the other day and I can't remember I I remember having a couple scraps lead Norwood who is a pretty tough defenceman and it is fact because we know what's on their worldwide web thing that's on everything is on the Internet right sticky. Don wrote it Nice a five minute fight. It's in their pro. Burt Olczyk five minutes for fighting. Now I did a lot of receiving because if you if you go well I ah. It's on the Internet..

"It's a lot better now. Pretty funny stuff mandate tip at talking about back to backs in his dave versus today. I think the subtext of comments was shut. The fuck up man. These guys tablet made like it's not that big of a deal going back to back with. What was your take on this? Pretty funny quote I I liked playing back to back so I never minded it. I think that his quote was perfect. Just because the Tony has his voice is just like he's like as the perfect for delivery or what he's talking about but it makes total sense to me I mean it was a grind pry when he was doing it nowadays. It is I I mean when you when you get in real late and you have to play the next night. That's that's kind of a battle but you sleep and no pre game skate. By the time the the game comes I mean adrenaline does enough so oh I sometimes never never really thought about back to backs being like a huge issue just because a lot of times if you play well. It's actually a win win. If you play well you get to play again the next night and if you played bad you get a chance to just make it make it up and play again the next night so either way you're you're excited to get back on the ice and I don't think it's that big of a deal tip tips at a perfect. I think it's fair for him to say because he did play in that old. Nhl I do agree with him in the sense that like people are making taking more of a bigger bigger of a deal about it. Hey it's how it works out. The buildings are busy the scheduling. It's just how they can fit in games now. Hey if they could find a way to not have to play as many back the backs Shir but fuck let's chill out here. They've like the NHL is adapted so much where where they're they're if they're skating too much they'll back off and like most teams. Don't even do pre-game skates now. Like I think New Jersey adapted the policy where okay so. They're spending one less time on the ice now so they're backing off the ice time I mean it's basically saying hey like the highest. Maybe you've got a defense you the place twenty five thirty minutes but that's not as hard as playing twenty. Maybe a Centerman Norman. Mattis your Centerman play back to back twenty game nights. That's heavy yeah. Well he's probably having the day off the next day so yeah let's back off the crazy amount a a talk about like. Oh my God a back to back like these guys are in the trenches does get a little overblown and as a gamble. I really don't put too much stock in it. I go on who played the the night before what gully was in how they played. I don't really like put too much. And if they play the night before Mike Solvent had some interesting quotes about into district as you used to always do. It doesn't mean you have to still we'll do it and let's not forget here so a lot of these high end skill guys in the NHL didn't spend any time in the minors so they don't even know what a three and three with bus trips says. I played a Foreign Foreign Wilkspur once and we traveled and we traveled that we had. I've told this on this podcast for we had the the urine wilkes the locker. We ended the season foreign five. Four and five four and five four and five so that's Wednesday Friday Saturday so those are the last four weeks of the regular season and the last one so that's sixteen games. Math guy the sixteenth game on Sunday afternoon was in Philadelphia against the Philadelphia. We played the night before in Wilkes pair. It's like I don't know what what was it. Two and a half hours from Wilkspur two and a half so the game the next day at five so we play this. We played our fifteenth game. However many days wake up get to the arena? Were driving affiliate we get. We go warm after one was for sitting there waiting for the game to start. Ross lupus chuck offense defense mechanics. Show do look over. He's asleep fucking fell asleep. I'm almost I'd love to have loopy on here. Maybe I'm remembering this not correctly it but I'm pretty sure we had like a huge laugh. After like everyone was that tired loopy fell asleep. It was just these these those Asia foreign fives. Those were blocked. Maybe that's why care about back the backs in Chicago and Columbus. That is bad as fucking. That's that's being tired. The whole team was gassed. I think David coach was handing out pills with like no label on the bottle from the Czech Republic. Oh Oh my God this. It's all coaches. The best breath would reek like salmon. Because that's all he ate. He ate salmon like a machine machine. He was a salmon salmon like a bear. I just mentioned gambling a minute ago and I cannot believe we haven't mentioned our guest yet speaking again. Back in Ed's Oh Eddie. Olczyk joined us when we road Chicago. Couple of weeks ago outstanding interview he this guy had an unreal career and I think we spent ten minutes on it because there's so many other interesting aspects of his life that we talked about. We're GONNA bring home. Tom Bring him on in a little bit of. We'd just usually try to mention earlier in the show but unreal stuff coming in a little bit now now go back to the schedule and stuff haven't settled at ESPN ESPN that a huge huge article. One of the biggest problems in the NBA. And it's about plays not getting proper rest and then the athletic ended up doing a similar story on the Gel that it's a constant battle for guys to get rest and that Kinda ties into the next subject the so called Jonathan Tapes scheduled. There was another big article in the athletic. He kind of proposed a new schedule in hockey and they do acknowledge. It's probably not going to happen. Essentially what they're GONNA do is make baseball teams. Go to a city and stay there for a few days in play a series then go to another city plays series and it cuts down immensely on the travel Again it's might not happen but who knows what the future holds Biz. What are your thoughts on the old so-called tapes schedule so we kind of touched on it on the tip of comment comment? But Hey if if if it's going to be a better quality product on the ice because there is less travel maybe rivalries will be set. It's a little bit more because when you put what you know better than anyone especially going back to the American league talk when you play a team back to back nights at in their barn if there's like a there's like a head in a third period at the end of the game or whatever from first game all you know there's going to be emotions are going to be high for game two. There's there's a there's going to be more spunk. In the game. which once again equals a better product on the ice for fans? I don't know if they're going to like seeing the same team on Thursday and then a Saturday Saturday or or a back to back night in that one city now I guess that's fan experience. They may take that into consideration. Batter travel situations where saving money right because because it would the I mean you're you're flying less and you're maybe staying in hotels last so oh that's GonNa save the teams money and I mean there's there's a lot of positives towards the negatives the negative negative being building scheduling. Maybe that's why they're doing it the way they're doing so I mean hey if it's not gonNA fuck anything up and there's a lot more positives outweigh the negatives. I don't see a reason why they consider that. I know that leads. Don't WanNa keep changing all these rules all time because it just gets a big. That would be a big decision because it's not very traditional. Oh yeah they. They mentioned the article that the actually did this without taking consideration. NBA Concerts. And that's probably why I could never happen. The Hi dear of of the idea of it is it is cool but I do think that if it was just back to back and you know you're you're on the dachshund you go into Winnipeg in your plan Friday Saturday night. The schedule that I saw in the article some of them were three and four game sets baseball style. I think fans who get got a little tired of that. I think fans probably enjoyed the fact of crosby's coming in in November and March to our arena as opposed to right in a row but the main point point of it was the tapes. I guess is not a huge advocate. But it's talked before about like what is it keeping the green yeah. He's a big environmentally. Remember I couldn't spit that one environmentalist. So this would really off the all carbon footprint that the NHL can sometimes a hammer down on on our atmosphere with the private jets everywhere so it makes sense anything less flying in anything where it's less travel is a good thing but when it all said and done and there's so many different fact there's it's going to be really tough to ever change what it is now well based on the scheduling for NBA. It would be a situation where both both leagues would maybe have to get together and agreeing to do it together. Yeah but there's just like so many. NBA cities that don't have NHL team. So I don't know I I. I think we can all agree that it's probably I'm not going to happen. I'm just saying if there's a lot lot more positives outweigh the negatives. It may be something to consider the one thing I do before. Moving on is that every team plays as in every arena. Because it used to not be that way you used to sometimes play a team just once a year as opposed to twice a year so every fantasy every player in the league that will always be there to stay yes. I agree with that too. Yeah the article more or less acknowledged. It's very unlikely to happen. But maybe they can incorporate some of the ideas perhaps a little more home and homes Assam anything to reduce the travel. And I think Maggie could chuck my kill the atmosphere keep taking if he keeps taking private jets to assist this field hockey games two hours away but that's another matter boys. I didn't say I'd be. I'd be on a private jet every third day if I could afford it stumbling on all right boys I think we should send Ed's Oh man I just said this is unreal interview you. He has a presence about him. He comes in the room. He's a cool cat. He takes over the room. I it was a great time. Talk home so without further ado. We're GONNA send it over to Ed's Oh Eddie Olczyk this. This interview is brought to you by black. Buffalo Hockey is back in full swing and we know a lot of guys out there. "The envy of the League outfit Schwab. Men's league sweaters his Speaking of Hockey in Europe looks like we might be getting getting a Chiklis bumper on Annan's perhaps k. h. l. in euro hockey report. I'M GONNA probably butcher this name. Avis Kelman's Heads Interesting tweets. He said that Andrei Nazarov. WHO's a coach overnight gauge l.? He listens to the Tim Stapleton interview on Checkups and he said quote if you are a man than say that things when you are in Russia not across the pond these people are just hyping it and trying to make these well respected people in coaches look bad we we the next generation of coaches let that happen in. Next time we see them we will punch the noses of both. The podcast is in the cage playing friends of sorry. Do the Russian accent and Russian accent was Spanish French Russian respected it. Anything specific where he's like. The story is not true. I know he didn't try to say anything wasn't true. I think he got pissed off. That states was telling stories about that creek and off guy. And he's a legend legend over there so he probably I think he just felt disrespected for that guy for the cage l. for okay but also there was another tweet back in July from my Slava Malibu over His name too bad. He covers a lot of Russia's stuff. Here it's pretty interesting and he said back in July K. H. L. Calls for jailing former players who criticise Russia after Tj Gag. Liatti what you want to check. Let's to drop truth bombs about life. KNICKKNACK homestand obvious coach. Having having at the name of the city I might not might thing comes through Russia. We'll arrest them and this also guide those clips of him online of throwing a water bottle and opposing doesn't play off the beaten. His guy up in other ways flipping off fans and rest like an Italian. None of Boffon going everybody and then he'd beat up a fucking team. Doctor reportedly fucking beat up steam. Doc Yeah Yeah because the team doctor said look at the. MRI didn't agree with what Nazarov thought the MRI said. Hey listen you're a lot harder on Russia than US I I. Oh I don't think I've ever said it's a dump I don't know maybe I have. Maybe I just don't have the right. Never said it's a dump I said. Mexico was a dump I actually never said. Russia was stumped. I don't think thank okay. Well I've told stories where. Yeah maybe I come off as like very hard on them. I mean it's all true stories. That are very different from how I live and most of us live in so it is very worthwhile to discuss. It's very extreme. And they're not aware that it's extreme but like it's like you can't reason with them so that's why it's like faulk now because we're just telling funny stories stories of Shit that happens over there. That's normal I can't ever go to Russia again. I might have went. I might have wanted to go to Moscow and see what it was like in that now. I can't experience spirits that ever in my life so thanks a lot guys especially if they in Moscow. I heard credible I fucking chicks are tens in like like. I've heard I mean. Listen we're not going to need name Sir. But I've heard guys like the Biz. I slept with two tens for eight hundred dollars. They like clean my apartment. It's what I don't I don't know like your entire body not with. Yeah they'll do whatever to you. They'll be thrown darts down your whatever. It may be now. Listen I don't pay for play. I don't de like it's very intriguing to hear that maybe I will get to the level of where I'm so pathetic and old but yet I'm still chasing Pussy Pussy. Were I dislike my outside Moscow in like make it real easy they will have. You can never go so we're going to get a little verse. Nasr at the next round rowdy. Oh what no I don't want the smog. I just want want to tell these funny Steiner's hake are people laugh. Nobody's lying here. We're just that. Sometimes the truth hurts. People don't like to hear things that that fucking bother Iraq but nobody on and is there not auden unsettling feeling that like an entire country hates you and fuck dude there might be a red dot on your forehead at one point because of a fucking podcast and telling funny hockey stories. I know but I've always I've said since this all kind of began and where I think somebody said You'd think you get murdered by a Russian Kevin. Can you imagine the guard. I would be to the chickens fan base if I ever got down by a Russian there'd be statues built in Chiklis fans yards. I'd be honored forever. It'd be the guy who got people to tell funny stories about murder over it I I. I'm right with you. I this this consumes Calife this podcast. I would die for this podcast and I I fucking rates. I'm drawing a line of sand right now. I would die for this podcast. ODD CAST with greater fit right in. I never thought I WANNA be a model for anything before but if I get killed because we're talking truth the podcast about Russia. I don't WanNa go down because go that way. But if if I have a son. I don't WanNA get gunned down. But like in the. And if I were to be gunned down CEOS gunned down because I was yelling at somebody because we were in an enormous argument driving on the highway and it was a road rage murder that would be pretty foolish Bush. Sports done down because a chick. Let's I mean this would be added here. Here's here's what's even crazier. Here's what's even crazier about this episode is as we're now talking about getting gunned down at the start of the episode. Ra Comparative to the Beatles. And you're the guy who was the one who eventually got gunned down. I have entered a different here. Let's not forget. They found George Harrison Hotel in Vegas can had a couple of too many snags. All my God awed. We're the fucking Beatles. PODCASTS and I probably sound very arrogant was obviously we can have some fun here before we go anywhere else I caught some heat like Tea Moose story about me with Edmonton. That's like the worst sounding story. Actually being older I like cringe that I said that. But you got to imagine it wasn't necessarily a sh- as much as Everton. As it was. At the time I was living at in Newport Newport beach I was eating Sushi hot girls belly buttons I was like it was different. Time right I I was in the frozen Hundr- on the way to the airport like the play here. Not Oh my God is the worst place the world more. I'm I'm on the beach in Anaheim so I know that sounded brutal and look brutal but Edmonton I seriously. It is a great place to play. I know you. It didn't like me but I didn't mind it at all. I respect you for saying that because like sometimes you just like your humor's shitting on things and like you just like being negative and like probably in the Mona. You're probably just like you know you're probably gonNA grumpy. Moon set it and it made you sow. Maybe it's made you sound a little bit ungrateful to even be playing in the NHL. What I hated about it rush sounded for your apologizing for we're not going to I? I respect that thank you. I think people know when I'm always set their apology messing around. Now I'm just kidding around I love Edmonton so I'll accept your apology. Yeah get you go your cell phone stolen and then the fans you find a back analyze. It's very easy. Kills like layups a guys. Let's talk real quick about Roman. Hey you know we're not always young studs everytime are fooling around and and the older you get the last long WanNa last sometimes thinking about all those goals Ray book short of Wayne Gretzky SCO once fucking trophies..

"What's up as some people might be a little hard on these types of promotional games but the best part about it and this is kind of have I hope this this situation resonates in? Is that the word I'm looking for resonates and people get to kind of here looking for resonates resonates thank thank you all right. You'd find but but that meant a lot to a guy who's done a lot for the league right so headman men get to go home and get that experience which is something that essentially the league is is giving back to his people and him at the because he's on the world's biggest stage and and they don't they don't get to experience that they want you to travel over here. It ain't the same so just to see that type of stuff and hear that like pasta or not gets go to Prague next cheer posture nocco matching their night games. fucking rights man. They get to watch pasta. Do his thing in check in when those guys have success when they go over there. It's like fucking I certainly in emotional and shit. Yeah he said he went to. The bruins played the coyotes back at the beginning of the season. The bruins on the COP Pasta said he went to that game as a little kid. So well this is a big them. Yeah Yeah Yeah. When we were there we played against them crazy and they they had no they had? Who did they have? At the time they had Chara. They had a few other big check names in sort of we. We had like hands over. Badeah I don't know of Roosevelt. H US there. We we had A. We had a group of guys in our team. We call it the check Mafia McCullough. Zibanejad mccollum McCall. We had a check mafia on our team team and it was Kinda cool. There's a Mafia meet my boy which was cool because they all got to hang out and still be themselves and not have to like you know. There's no language which barrier where like everyone on the team. They're all nice guy so everybody was cool that so they had their own little clique where they were all hard being the only check on a team. If you don't have anyone to talk to. I think it's funny though if you if you do hear the complaints about outdoor games and about The say the European Games because when it's such a long season anything that differs a little live from the monotonous regular season. Travel Day off Game Day off game. I think guys really appreciate it so players joy this stuff and like you said earlier about you guys get to come home. It's just like my dream. It's all I thought about every single day as a young kid ten years old all I thought about was playing in the NHL H. O.. Wake up think about all day go to sleep. It was just. It was my life and I was able to go to see it happen and as you said it best these kids never could. Victor Hedman dreamed aimed of the NHL. But it was. It must have seen so far away because you could never even go look at. It could never even witnessed it with your own eyes. So I think it's so cool for little kids and younger kids and they showed Guys with Darlene Jerseys Headman Jerseys even some kids with Stamkos non-swedish jerseys and it's it's just little kids that are playing the game and dreaming the same dream that that Biz and myself had and to get into finally witness it firsthand. So I'd love and and I'm GonNa go as far as saying this. The overall point was like going coming home is is is massive and my my biggest game I'd say in my career was when my mom had been sick right for a period of time. She was sick for like three or four years and she had never seen any play a game in the NHL but we are going to buffalo and. She's finally better so she was going to come to a game so it was gonna be her first game ever watched me play because it was near home and she could do it. My grandparents had never seen me play alive. NHL Game they got to go because it was so close. My GRANDPA was like he wasn't doing good. Good Man I had a local guy from well and who had He owned a couple of Tim Hortons. He had a front row tickets on the glass and the one and he gave them to me to give to my grandparents so they can have better seats. I have must have had three four hundred friends in the crowd because it was in Buffalo. They could go their forty minutes away. Dude I end up fucking the scoring scoring the game winner and I got I got to give a fuck. I'm giving crime here. I got to give awesome. I got to get my GRANDPA knuckles. No Way Dude. That's sick. See that's the stuff that like people don't really appreciate all time when you watch the NHL is how meaningful full. And how much do these kids lives have been put ahead and put towards their dream. And that's why this was all brought up because these European kids their families get to do that and like Bizet's disproving the players get really show how much those family members meant to them because they finally get to see him do it in person. But he's gone now but I got to give him walk. Goes on the glass because I got to go home if I if I hadn't. That's what it meant to me. We're going there of course are on the schedule but for these guys it's moments like that and fuck dude. I'm I'm a plug. And I got to experience that Victor Hedman and guys like that have done a lot for the league and a law for their countries and growing the game so now they get to experience that so sometimes like when people are hard online and they're not really giving like like the full thought-through of maybe it's not just about fucking like the NHL making money. Your whatever you think. The reason is it's fucking there's a lot of thought that goes on that ship it's a beautiful story Biz. Sorry in here. I'm on the third floor apartment. Bill that's why not wrong office on an airplane. Not Being Human Buddy. Hey and if you're going to be heading over to Europe next season the check out the early NHL NHL Action and you WANNA fly logos..

"John Lennon has glennon was kind of like grumpy. Be Sometimes shot. That's how bad you want me to get killed. Deer funked up her dreams. So aw fuck you with for going dark there. He said as your bed grumpy I only genius for Christ sake definitely. Paul McCartney the charismatic when always smile mile whatever GRANOLA Ringo. He's the backbeat Keach everything together. And I'm fucking George Harrison. True true musician fantasy. They trump drummer. Ringo was the Drummer Brunelli. I'm George Harrison kind of like glue behind it all but I I don't know if it was sixty minutes. I Watch recently Paul McCartney. He's the one who's still going. WHO ended up getting divorced Vorst and you had to pay like a hundred sheets or I think it was way my battery okay? All right three hundred seats. Whatever he he doesn't he hates when people come up and ask for pictures like an e Says No? He's like no. I'd rather have a conversation and I. I'm really the same way I fucking would never say no because like I'm fucking Paul McCartney but I like the interaction far better than like a picture picture. But it's fucking what's up Man Hari. Sorry I'm Paul what's your name you know if but when you're at these things in your at the United Center and there's thirty people waiting to meet Biz Nasty. What do you do Utah October? Yeah Buddy fucking ask anyone anyone who's ever met me in public who comes up and it's just kind of organic. Oh No it. You don't own it. You're misunderstanding me. I know that you actually you. You talked to anyone in everyone and ask questions about why. But I'm saying if there's thirty you're saying you'd rather there go through a conversation you'd rather sit there and then meet and talk to every person. All three hours. Overtake thirty pictures. No I mean if you're on the run and you WanNa you gotta go back to somewhere or no I mean you gotta say guys like I fucking wish I could fuck and talk to all ya I mean I'm just saying I thought it was cool. That like Paul McCartney rather converse with with I mean fuck do like he's giving you what do you want do you. Would you rather that picture. Would you rather that that minute and a half two minutes. Where like dude? Paul McCartney was nice talking to you about my job. Do I chrome hours a nurse and I was. We were talking about nursing like fuck the pitch so I think people probably when you say it. That way would agreed greed. Rather the little discussion with this legend this person that a lot of people idolize but people do everything to show others and they just WanNa be able to show them look. Look look at my picture with home. I guess the ultimate what I was saying when you said Paul McCartney I really respected the fact and it sucks because a lot of people are going to be like. Oh he was an asshole. He wouldn't take picture. It's like man he was just wanted to talk to you. I said Hello. That's a good point because I got a self Chris Rock last year. One of my favorite Mount Rushmore Comedians. So you know I put online whatever. It was pretty cool but like twenty years ago I was in Vegas and I actually was going to see Rodney Dangerfield. I met him in the lobby before of us before the show like hours before the show and I actually got the PTOLEMIES alleged fucking guy looked up. Twenty looked me straight in the eyes and shook managed to go through so much it was like I remember that way. More than the FUCK I. Wrong Sherin's four key moment with them. Exactly incredible I actually read bill. Russell wouldn't give people autographs Biz but he's like L.. Shake your hand or I might be getting that completely wrong but it was something where there's many times famous people really. Famous people will just have something their heart they take a hard stance stance on. I'm not doing it so I guess if you're doing it as much as we can understand where they're coming from absolutely can get overwhelming. Skip back to the sheet. He'll hit a talk. A A little hockey in the global series over in Europe kicked off Friday Athem Buffalo and Tampa Bay a nice little Friday afternoon game from Stockholm for guys hanging out my out of work little early taking a long launch Tampa Bay one three two. You're welcome corner but there was an ugly. Yup you've got it there was an ugly hit that the Keita Kucherov. When a little low on some people thought it was an old fashioned hip check? Didn't feel the same way. What would your take on that one? Just so unnecessary in my opinion and that Kucherov. He's I got a little mean streak anymore. Mother fucker out there. Oh yeah so I just look at the head. And it's funny prostate brandon. Press said. This is nothing thing which I I sense looking more at the hit. It's not like he doesn't go directly at his knees. I mean it's just an unnecessary hit I think. And it's like a a dirty bag move in the sense that this guy's already shot the puck. Nothing matters anymore and you could push in the upper body if you really WanNa make contact with just go down like that is just dirty. I think so. It looked like Sevaka was pretty injured. I don't know if it's a Charley Horse Which I think would be best case scenario and then you know busted costed knee or something is worst case but for me? Just you don't need that hit. It makes no difference in the play or the game and I thought it was bullshit. Yeah Yeah I'd have to agree with you and I'm I'm I'm looking back to last year's playoff and that and that play against the defenseman from Columbus I think it was is mark mark. Aside Kameda Vara Defenseman Navarre. Yeah I think it was him. Yeah I was him and he ended up getting suspended for Game Three Cup finals last year. Well not the finals. Excuse the Stanley Cup playoffs I route and so now we see another thing and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt where I I will not label him as a dirty player right now. But I've seen two things in recent memory where this guy. When when he's a little fired up his wires kind of cross a little bit he gets gets a little nasty okay and listen? You're playing a lot sometimes. The oxygen isn't all the way up top. Because you've been out there for a minute and you know you're you're a little frustrated straighted something and and fucking then you do something stupid okay. Well he's done it a couple of times now whereas frustration has really shown and it's been other guys kind of feeling the the brunt of it so just moving forward here like I don't know can you remember another guy as skilled as as Nikita Kucherov. WHO's one of the league leaders having being that big of a mean streak like who's been like the other guy who like who's been who's a top ten score every year even top five score every year? Who's WHO's fucking marshawn now? Yeah I guess in case so Marshall sure becoming that creative a score. By the way I saw a quick I'll get into it after but another player top ten. It's always been mean a shit like Click Hood even even saying Marcia I would say if Kucherov has like one one one or two more of these incidences in the next two years. Are you going to start putting them in that category. Maybe not the level of Marcia you've gotta eventually say well fuck I I mean there's a pattern here you all of a sudden you say all right this guy's dirty and people who came out and said he's kind of getting out of the way he was not getting out of the way of suboxone you you can. You could have easily gotten out of the way and had zero contact that was. I'm going to do something later than I probably should. And I'm just going to get them low for no reason and even for those those morons who who they won't even agree with you on the facts. Okay sure you know what I'll lay. I'll chalk this up as a as A. Let's let's call it a wash but on the next one eight fucking doing it for you because we saw the playoff one. We've seen this one and that's within the last nine months. Okay so if I see another one this season we're at the beginning of next. Okay all right when you to start not giving it better for the doubt now once again. I'm going to throw him in that category. That should he situation he had a brain fart and other guy got hurt because of it. Let's fuck and maybe gets a game I don't know let's move on now. He's he's out there right now. Yeah it's not off nothing from the GOP S and yeah it is rare to see MBP candidates pull that kind of stuff. There was no penalty on the play as well in Atlanta so Boca was not in the lineup. Today is not wind up on Saturday additive. Show he's obviously a little bit dinged up so yeah just a tough situation you hate to see for a good I would say I'm I'm a little bit more lenient than others on the Department of Player Safety I. I think that's a that's a game and I'm not trying to be a fucking asshole or hero or be like it was a it was a bit dirty it was low it was like an H.. Gets two games four. It's like I'm going to start even bringing up the thing because no I'm not going to be one of those people. It's a very difficult job because you're trying to keep everybody the happy and and you know there's eventually decision has to be made. But if Lucas getting to their I don't know I I know you're saying man. It could recognize the ruins. The whole thing with the other guy took a punch. The face US expect them but They also gave an update on the twenty twenty year. Old Game side next season Boston Nashville going to open the a season in Prague. They're also GONNA play exhibitions in other countries. I the Bruins are going to be in Germany. National is going to go to. Switzerland are GONNA play Roman Llosa's old team burn so that'd be pretty cool for him and Columbus in the blue jackets are going to open the season. With two games in Helsinki saw and there's a couple of connections on each team shall. I don't think I read the article. Any of the articles. Does what about headman and how. He was at the point of his during the anthem yesterday because a Friday was such an emotional moment for him to be. NHL Game in his home town and stop. So it's it's a pretty cool calm if he didn't get a chance to read it..

"You kidding me me. I mean it gets handed broken sticks in Chicago. Not The guy that's going to be checking my phone. I'm a man of honor that's true that's true I knew this. The last member of Buffalo some Paul Biz Nasty Bissonnette. What's up buddy are gonNA throw it right back to you but he just a team guy? He says like some of our travel schedules. The only reason we're recording on Saturday as opposed the Sunday is it. Because it's my fault so you're a team guy you kind of put it on the TV tell it just pretty special data mom that's going to be but nonetheless. I'm the reason that if something crazy happens on Saturday night. NHL which. I mean it's been a pretty crazy year. So far every Saturday there's some type of storyline if we ended up missing it and have to push it to the next episode sons on me boys but it's for a great cause. I get to go back home to well in Ontario for hometown. Hockey Ron Ron. Fuck and clean is coming. Well in Ontario Dude. I don't think you guys understand. This guy is Canadian royalty like. It's a Sunday night and I'm going to be had note afterward for a few POPs search for a lot of stories. I'm assuming and there's a lot of people are going to be hurting on Monday. Well and is going to be the least productive city in Canada on Monday. Coming appear and it's such an honor that I got asked to do it and remind you. Dan Pie is going to be there. Stanley champions with the Boston bruins probably he. Who's part of that fourth line? That was just incredible. Correct like Dan Pie. Unbelievable huge backup so he brought the cup home to Welland so vodka. He's royalty in Wellin- Alan. We got Dan Girardi who just retired. Unbelievable career. Guy Was undrafted. H Hawks eight bucks breakfast. Matt Ellis tell us a rudy type. Where do this guy like? No one ever thought he was going to see a game and ended up getting what two three hundred whatever it may be et greet NHL career. And then I got asked of course and we get to go. Thank everybody from back home. Who made our dreams possible? Because like you guys know coaches growing coming up. I was blessed. I had unbelievable coaches every year. I had a lawyer for a coach. Mark Larose who who when we couldn't find practice time or we weren't allocated the practice time from well a minor hockey. He would pay it of his own pocket and go rent ice in another city just so we can get on the ice like what. That's fucking wild. Isn't it something. Ah like guys like that. Mr Crawling Mr Shannon. All these different guys I get to go bank. And and they were all our coaches because we all came into the NHL at that same time so we all all had the like we were all getting passed on the exact same coaches so that was the formula for success. And of course I mean well and just you know it's a it's a tough town man you've breath you're behind the eight ball maybe a little bit. You don't have the resources the kids in Toronto do and we you know. We put our group of our core group of guys at that period of time. Kind of put it on the map. So it's going to be a very special day and I kind of rambled on there quite a bit. Well two things one Sunday night. Somebody's getting put on the workbench and well and to ooh I've been I've been when I worked up at Sports Net and even people at NHL Network that no Ron Maclean not often do you get a guy. That's that famous and that at high up and respected. There's never been a bad word. Said about the guy. People said he's to look the best guy ever work with when they they've been with him. I think he's done the Olympics and he's he's done it all and everyone says he's just a joy to be around. And the best part is I guess after all the work star Ronaldo and have a night firm soft he likes deserves saves it. He Crushes Drake's tell stories and he's one of those guys. The More Jersey has the happier he gets so we took a shirt off. Going to be fun for you because he took. He took his shirt off one time at a bar in Victoria and ripped up and he was. Yeah he's Jack and the picture went viral and like I don't think people understand the type of the pressure that's on this guy in order to deliver like Canadian news you mentioned I mean he's more he's more sports. If not all sports I mean you said he did the Olympics. Like you're on the center centerstage. You have to be on the ball every day and he a robot. He never really slips up until he goes to. The barn takes his shirt off and I wouldn't see it is. Yeah but he's your showing everyone that he's just poor crushing. Hgh Ronnie mcphee Look Hgh clain. So worst this nickname then no no. It's it's Dan. I love it age clean. It was but I wasn't being sarcastic. He walks in any place Jason Canada. Like whoa that's fucking rob mclane. He's he's I would say. He's just as recognizable as the prime minister in Canada. Yeah Definitely I. Would you say special offer strike off Rani my bad. That's good stuff though Biz funny. I almost said codger. Like the last of the FAB. Four when I brought you when I was like that obviously that comes from the Beatles. I'm like if we were the Beatles Beatles though I was thinking the WHO which one would we be and I was like obviously you to Apollon fuck and John I would say Whitney is John Lennon has glennon was kind of like grumpy. Be Sometimes shot. That's how bad you want me to get killed. Deer funked up her.

"I hope that you enjoyed the conversation with eddie olczyk reminder that sports is a microcosm of life but also not bigger than life and death very often we get reminders in two thousand eighteen we get reminders all the time and and know that life is any more dangerous now than it used to be or there are fewer natural disasters or tragedies but with social media and with the all access age that we live in we hear more about them all the time and were involved and that's for better or for worse we're involved in everything that happens whether it's in in the yard next to us in our neighborhood or whether it's halfway across the globe and so there there are good and bad things that are associated with that but it does mean that we have the opportunity to support other people who are going through difficult situations and are facing tough challenges and that's what i appreciate about social media not a whole lot that i appreciate about social media but i do appreciate the fact that you can access a community made up of of millions in a few moments and it can be used for good one thing that comes to mind as the ice bucket challenge and the way that that went viral a couple of summers ago so i guess it was more than a couple was summer of two thousand fifteen maybe fourteen fifteen i remember exactly where i was standing and i wasn't living in the house that i'm living in right now so i know it was at the very least fifteen but i remember exactly where i was standing in my yard when a friend took by cell phone and made the video of me dumping a very cold bucket of ice and there was ice into ice water over my head but but that's an amazing example of how social media can reach so many people and do good and other more recent examples i talked about it with eddie olczyk the the humboldt tragedy and how people were able to reach out and and to offer their support and their compassion and kindness and do whatever they could for that community for that junior hockey league and eddie talked about it the same way the.

"To think about that today because we booked i'm so excited about this we booked eddie olczyk from nbc sports now eddie is a veteran of the nhl as a player he was a stanley cup champion he also coached now he's a broadcaster with the blackhawks as well as the guy who's alongside doc emrick on nbc for the stanley cup final i think most impressively and most inspiring is that he is a cancer survivor now and he wants to tell his story because he wants to reach as many people as possible so that others might be prevented having to go through what he went through over the last year or so so as the scene shifts back to las vegas for game number five again coming up on thursday we're excited to have eddie on the show he will join us about fifteen minutes from now and really looking forward to it you can find me on twitter ehlo radio after twenty four hours or so of not checking mentions so peaceful really nice i've decided fine maybe i'll check them again it would be difficult to do any kind of a show wide question if we were not if i was checking my vengeance and so i i'll i'll go back and do that again but you can find me on twitter also you have to send your questions for asking me but that's not for me you want to send those to our show twitter after our cbs or to our facebook page after hours with amy lawrence.

"No no no the jr smith that's why it's so incredible because i'm a mental state i really can't because hockey players they know what's up speaking of hockey we got eddie olczyk coming up eight thirty five eastern he'll be undocumented will have the game tonight game four on this is the the the main channel tonight nbc none of this cable stuff nbc sports radio as well i know you're all over the hockey watching jenny 'cause nets off fighting off his injury to to get a goal and assist in that win for washington on saturdays what's amazing stats about what the capitals are doing you know at least i know you're not a huge hockey fan but you know what everyone has always said for years about the washington capitals chokers can't hold a lead can hold alina game can hold lead series they're doing the opposite this year they have trailed in every series and here they are they're two wins from the stanley cup and still you know you gotta pump the brakes a little bit because they are the capital this is going to be a very interesting game tonight because game fours are huge when it's two to one so if washington wins up three one now they've blown three one weeds in history and so anything is possible but if wins it's back to to two and they're going to vegas and vegas has been surprised like you're always going to get a up there has been no adversity through this playoff run for them so finally they've lost two in a row finally for the first time they are trailing in the series they haven't shown that speed they haven't had the kind of the energy that they have had in previous series and the washington capitals have been very impressive alex ovechkin had a guy on yesterday who said ovechkin i'll ask eddie oh about this ovechkin has been showing mark messier leadership that's like the highest praise you can give a guy in hockey and not only ovechkin had that reputation as necessarily a team leader like he's been showing this year and in this playoff run do you think that people will do to let's say veg can wins the cup do you think that people will do to him what they do to peyton manning like oh his first super bowl title do you think that'll happen with ovechkin is going to beat an expansion team.

2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs Tied 1-1

"The series tied at one game a piece to stanley cup finals had nation's capital for the first time since nineteen ninety eight game threes tonight at eight and the status of cap center you're getting because nets off remains unclear caps coach berry trot set in the conference call that because nets off was the team's leading score in the class mike is still day to day with the ultimate the ultimate stanley cup injury and upper body problem yeah i mean anywhere north of the abdomen where we talked about that when we all saw the game the other night and he kinda got back into and it looked like to me grabbed his handers wrestle could be a hand wrist elbow could it be all the way to the shoulder we think it's an arm injury but that's what they do in hockey with upper body still you still think about that hopi save that he had at the end of the game with just off the shot by taco i've really the open net on the past was absolutely incredible we'll talk eddie olczyk seven thirty eastern this morning to preview that game in washington in a little bit but they did what they needed to do on the road they got that split and now you're waiting to hear about the status of the leading goal scorer in the nhl in the playoffs so no pressure going back to home ice and if he is out that puts all the more practice pressure on lovie for this game a guy who needs to as you know already thrown one of the monkey's off his back and getting to the conference final but now at this level when you're the one of the best in the world is going to be expect we talk about ovechkin in the regular season never get done in the playoffs talk we just talked about another guy who does that and kershaw husband unbelievable now his has been somewhat injury related at times but also he struggled in the playoffs as.
