"Out of his mouth. Yeah funding yeah just reeks it. S red fast. It's just reeks funny exam. Yeah just just net not even try to be not even he even be. It could be mad and everything he does. He says he says it turns into comedy. The whole room is screaming. He was that guy. I love that like you know that you're so rooted in stand up like you know 'cause 'cause i love then. I know that you met rodney early on. He gave you that. I i heard about that to me is the greatest story because every old comic. If you're dirty some old comics come up to you and go. Hey what are you doing kid. You gotta clean it up. you know. That was weird for him to be like that with me. Because he wasn't like there with with key like he can people at kennison those guys champion. When he saw me he was life. No clinton show up could you. And then they did that easy. Ready to of later gets os before saturday night live. Yeah around of brennan to him after after three years after that. Yeah at the bathroom seasons for the first night and had when tony you told me you know i went to cut the comic strip in fort lauderdale this weekend and dangerfield pops up. Yeah dangerfield's bumping everybody. Dangerfield goes up bumps. I'm like this dangerfield. We watch my set at. Because i want to go up because i knew i was gonna kill. Yeah so i go up. Dangerfield and crushed dangerfield. Curious will carry negative stuff very annoying foul language. We're gonna go with that kid including stop. Stop using that word of thanks. And then i forgot about it then a year later i got saturday night. Live two years ago by. Then i'm it caesar's palace vegas urinal and dangerfield comes in. And he's right next to me and i look over dangerfield. He looks at me and says was a perfectly timed like perfectly time show that he even remembered that he even remembered right. He to- 'cause. I just one of a thousand comics as a that. He even remembered right. He didn't think much of my show back then but he's remarried sir could and that either that he would come in and hit that like it was written was like tagged it. Three years later bursting. Perfect so what's going to happen. Man what's going to happen with You know there was some that you told about that. That was kind of beautiful. That you you know in terms of your your the sort of the the ark of the comedy history that you say you said. That groucho informed cosby cosby informed. Richard richard inform. You know that there's is through line. Say in four. No no no. I'm saying that inspired the engine. The engine of cosby was groucho. The engine of prior was cosby in the engine. Of eddie is is pry right deep but it's more than more than engine is like the engine and those other people might have been like that but then when is richard changes. It's not like you just become your engine. Because she was influenced. Richard restructures the the whole thing right. And it's not just not just me. He changes everything he takes it from. You know from black and white in color the whole art form he changes he's edt takes the ceiling and put it up here in comics usa. Just stand in ten this shit into the mic a little swayed patches on the elbow in richard into one that made it three dimensional used the host stage and so he opens it up how you can perform and opens up subject matter. He opens it up. Opens it up on he. He makes the canvas. This big giant thing we were you know working on a stool right. Everybody this he's like no change so it wasn't. He wasn't just my engineered like chain. Like i said he's the he's brand. Brando was as an actor. Brando showed up and changed everything. That's where richard was. So are you like. Are you going to go back and we can do that our again you think after the plague that might the plan was because i had stopped making movies in two thousand eleven i was like let me take a break cra movies as making shitty movies and it was like this shitting fun. Yeah they they give me give me razzies fuck is game you. The worst to have a razzie. i'm sitting. there was town to take a break. You get worst ever need to pull back. You sound pullback in the break and then now i was only going to take a break for a year. All of a sudden he knows six years. Go by and i'm like sitting on the couch. And i'm like he. I kinda could sit on his couch in that. Get off it this battle. Wanna leave it. The the last bunch of should they seem deals bullshits always like get off the couch and do some stuff remind them. Ask funny right then if i want to come back to the couch again i could do that but so the plan was go. Do dolemite saturday night. Live do coming to america and then do stand up and then see how felt they have to with. I was like at then. At least they'll know that you know. I'm funny yeah again because otherwise we sit on the couch. They they don't they don't know you sit on the couch and just take yeah. He fell out anymore Last movie the last movie poodle nationally at anyone sitting on the couch wondering what happened. I don't wanna leave it there here. Let me go so might happen. The not might happen i was. We were literally dates. We had you know we literally. We had a tore land up dates and all that shit and then the pandemic smells like when the world gets back to normal and people can be around each other. Put that stuff together. I still i still want the same plan i did everything else. All that other stuff came together. And you know now as i still wanted to go and do that because i stopped doing stand up. I'm twenty eight. So i'm wow fifty knack fifty nine. I'll be sixty in april. So i'm like this. I want a book in. Yeah i'm i'm curious to see what it a world. What will it be like you know. I was a baby when i did it before. Is like when i get some structure to my little thoughts and go in get on stage and do it again. I want to see what is going to be like. Wow man and it'd be it'd be cool. Book is kind of like book indo yan if i wanted to go sit on the couch co yeah take my shots. If and i'm gonna say sit on a couch this metaphor for you. Yeah just not chasing it and if something comes along it's amazing you know. Get some opportunity where some amazing artist or something. A some amazing director. Of course you get off the couch and do that the whole being out there. Doing you know three movies a year going all that shit over. Yeah don't need it anymore. George sam be sixty a couple of weeks. Got all these babies you of it. You love the fatherhood thing. Oh again this at the center of every that's beautiful. It's nice that you that you found that. And he found it over and over again ten times over and over and over and over and then along the way. I realized that if you have if you put your children first yeah you never make a decision. Nice everything when you get to. I got us. Okay well you gotta use some crossroads a moment and you got some shit okay. What's best for my children. If you go. That route never make the wrong decision and get along with all of them a.

Assume and copy. I'm a super poor steve harvey. Yeah yeah. I don't think like maybe it's not like doing the podcast. It's more like a celebration of the podcast with like thin interrupt. Your boys aged eighty-five social they sell out like arenas colors melody sandfly. They started on a wild and out and it was like bro. We should just do a podcast and it was like oh will interact with fans on the road because they know us about wild and out sorry stay started off in the clubs and they went to stay Arena are all headlining comics. Yeah but everyone has to be on the same path to be like all right. We're gonna take a hit on this but we realize it's the long game too long different things me with a movie now and it. Was you know one of the most underrated movies. Where all those guys were in it Life come all of my to me. Life's top five underrate. I mean nobody talks about it. You're totally right. You hit it off. Any that would think brought meg guy or is it. A sad eddie. Murphy told the director. He said let them go. Let them go let them let them smart sign because he goes. They'll make it happen. Yeah don't try to just let them do it. You think about martin world like he was big on that level he had to take a second tier. Like eddie murphy was a stall and i know but martin. He was more lors. I they did. They did it also boomerang and boomer. Other one of the most underrated comedy talking about. Uh oh yeah off. Ask chris rock in the beginning..

"A year. That was the first. I can't be put towards. What's what's if you have kids. You know you go see your kid in his school right and you fill you up. You know could pay something and you put on. Refrigerator is get wet from net. So imagine going to work in your baby girl. Is that your job which you and. She's contributing the what's going on and she's doing a good job too rare. She's got fight scenes karate fight fighting every day is filled up every day. Can i like guys you abou like you. Talk about randy watson and we talk about these movies. What was it that made you want to tell rudy ray moore story. I thought from the first vice to watch movies all the time you did because Yeah because i watched move. I watch a lot of stuff. Yeah and i don't watch just just classic stuff. I watched a classic stuff and i and i love the stuff that so bad. It's good. yeah those move right movies so bad. I love movies like that and rudy ray moore was that as a kid even before i got like that like i love the so bad. It's good i was a fan of rudy ray. Moore's movies because of that. When i was a kid. Yeah and when his movies were coming out with with go and we would laugh at seeing the microphone. Come into shot. Certain way hit certain lines. We thought it was. We knew it was bad back. This kids knew it was so hard right but it was. It was funny and we would argue even as a kid. I would argue that that. He's trying to be funny and they would say no no he's not he's serious nelson ignored that. He's not serious. He's that he's trying to be funny. And that's why we're laughing and they'll be like nah. He's he's serious. They will let him think that he was serious. It was so bad. I was like no. He wished supposed to be. There's no way that we're not supposed be. Yeah even as a kid. So i always a fan of his and a thought he had this great stranger than fiction story so we tried to get it done. It was back in the nineties. I tried to get it. I want to rudy but no studio was making no rudy. Ray moore movie back then. It was like not happy right then. You know internet flex ten years fifteen years later than it was a place where to make the move. So it's really about a guy who is committed to his vision and made it happen absolutely rudy. Ray moore is another reason. Why he's he's a kind of fascination for me is is. His career is like the exact Polar opposite of my career like the way came on what he had to do a hard. It was for him to get in like we did the same the same thing. We're both doing comedy. We both do music stuff. Both wants to the movies but he had such a hard time getting in everywhere in the sensation and he was you know struggling in areas. Was you know fascinating in that. Respect and then i had once i got into the movie business. I had a a a a newfound appreciation and respect for the that when i found out that he put his movies together. You know they would finance out of his own pocket you know. It was a guerilla. Film may be athlete. wasn't just a nut. This guy really was. You know trying to get it done so it was like disguise. A great movie was like just like just like ed. Wood is a great movie about this in an edwards. Ian kind of way. Yeah i thought historic story would be great so i literally went and got the writers that wrote ed wood to write the really dolemite. Yeah that those guys wrote it. Yeah i thought it was great man and you didn't you didn't you didn't know rudy different world. Different universe met him a couple of times but in no. Where'd you meet him. The very first time i met him was on downtown. La was doing forty eight hours. Yeah i heard some icy get. Show hands off me. This rudy ray moore on a visit is rudy. Ray moore was really. He must have been smoking. Something was really skinny. Look like a homeless person. A picture with him and shit there now with seeing he would do little little gigs in la. Like lingerie of you now either. Play there on sunset and last place. I've seen him. Steve is on the strip in one ventura boulevard nineties. Yeah so whenever he was another one like we would go see richard because it was richard but he was in channel accomplished to go and sit around and really remote was the same with the black comics. We would go me in arsenio rabbit towns in with rudy. Ray moore canada. We would go to wherever he was and sit in back. Be fucking screaming and funny. It was really roemeling. He would he would go up to woman in say Try why eat off your drawings. How i'm gonna eat off. You'll drove how we will i. What about did you ever see. Red foxx not live here something but but yeah. He was something on the set of harlem nights on the set of harlem nights. You get red fox. Richard pryor may robin harris robin low. Yeah my brother. Charlie uncle ray and it was just rock is our senio is raucous laughter. Like the funniest shit happened off. Camera always always laughing. Red fox is at the center of red foxes. The funniest just naturally funny sit in a room just naturally funny that trying to be funny he s funny..

"Sitting. Do you have a steakhouse. Your place no this is. This is the lounge. There's a bowling alley here really. This is the lounge right bob. By the bowling alleys boosts saw how many lanes she got to lay open to the public or private or private. Do you have to rent. choose over there. What do you got the shoes. come complimentary with the with your stake feeling what's going on with the How much material did you have in place before. You had to put the kibosh on that tour. You were going to do how much material i mean were you working shit out or what. But we have we have to use the word material loosely. It's not it's not like i write. They have a conversation. You say some funny the and working out. Just go. Try it out at the club. Yeah well now. I'll just you know when that happens. I just say in the phone. So i probably get to three hours of you know one to feline premises to give some structure to. I don't want to be presumptuous. I think you should just re released phone. Memos i mean. I i think teachers. Have you gone dogs and you know what i'm does in menes with dogs. You ever get so far away from those notes notes where you don't even know what the fuck you're talking you find the perfect example manley's that's years later found this matinees as an important at the moment. Yeah it was gonna kill there was going to be my kilobits. The point where you wrote it down. Yeah yeah oh yeah. Yeah i do that too. I just make the outlines. I don't write the jokes. I just do the the trigger words. You know the the button words now. I'm gonna remember that. That's from doing santa for years and years and years. But that's always how did sorry to hear about richie. I don't know how close you guys were about. Sorry to hear about that about the day in. And he's part of my. You know my history rich for sure. Yeah right he was. Do you remember meeting that guy own. I remember you know back in the early eighties late seventies comic strip so where you grew up where i grew up i was born in brooklyn liberal was eleven then i moved out to long island. Roosevelt long island. So what was the deal out there. I mean were you. When did you start getting involved with you know knowing that the comedy was thing. That comedy was their thing back. Then it wasn't. It wasn't lock thing. He was like in new york. You head catch a rising star out the improv me up in the comic strip and that was in in the city alan long island. You have nothing. It was comedy clubs. There was one club called. Was it mimic dude. Back in seventies is richard nixon. Lookalike named richard m dixon a guy. He had a comedy club on long island. Richard him dixon's white house in and on wednesday nights he would have comedy nights. We would bet so. I started working out there. You did when i was about sixteen and that was the only joint. Governors was no the hell with governors. It was none of that. There was no e sad comedy club. None of that stuff was out there man. I remember the last time i played governors. You could still smoke in their. If you haven't played governor. What was the other one was a route place. We used to play my father's place. Yeah i reject spiro. Gyro was every week they had had their time. So it was just you and charlie no challenge do a standup back. But i mean you. He's the only the only sibling institute and you have one of younger brother. Who's like six years younger. Yeah what's he do we have. We have different dads so his name is lynch. Okay he do. He's a bunch of different stuff. He's the martial artist and trains is said son is boxer. He trains him he does. He does a bunch of different things. So so lynch with vernon lynch was your stepfather. Yes yeah but. I don't like to say that because he kinda raise me from when you were kid right. He's your father and how close is at version of him that you did on delirious how how close you know it's a trip My dad was like that when we was young. And because of that. Sketch show that whenever. I would do that Him on stage. Yeah nobody will be laughing harder and my mother because was true because my dad had a drinking problem right be like it. You know ten thousand people. My mother would be screaming and because of my dad stopped. Drinking really actually stopped drinking because of those bids for money but he was a lot like it was just like. Oh my gosh. So you had to deal with all that insanity volatility all the time now all the time just every now and then you know you're right and you news every night you knew when it was going to happen right. You knew the tone. Yeah but when it will happen it was. It wasn't funny. It was like you know serious. You know scary. Yes scary but when you for comedian turns into you know best bits exactly like when you grow up in that shit you know. There's two ways to go either. You make any learn how to figure out how to survive and manage it or you know you get fucked up yourself and you chose the other. You chose the gonna make this funny and survive this shit. I i never drank. Don't drink why. Why i mean i imagine if you grow up with someone like that you why would you. You're scared of it but you either gonna do so right will wind up drinking right. You're like nope. I want to stay in charge of me.

'Coming 2 America' Goes Heavy On Nostalgia
"Too heavily on nostalgia. Unless you're a huge fan of Eddie Murphy's classic 1988 film coming to America, and lots of people are there's not going to be a lot for you, and it's less than inspired sequel Coming to America. We celebrated her 30 years absolute and prosperity. 30 Years of service. Well, great nation on 30 Years off Delicious fast food. The new film begins with Murphy's Prince Akeem Joe Fair, opening a fast food restaurant called McDowell's in the African Country of Amanda Devote ease of the first movie. No. This chain is owned by Akin's American father in law, played by John Amos, who denies his business is in any way a rip off of another well known burger joint. They've got egg mcmuffins way that a mixed up in this way are also celebrating my new beyond big mix burger, So there's no meat. There's no meat. Maybe we're getting much better with Pepsi Call Max here are subtle as a sledgehammer. This scene mostly gives us an excuse to see Amos and Louie Anderson, who also appeared in the first film, The Story of the original movie was a black centered fairytale. Murphy's a keen came to America, Queens, New York, of course, tow avoid an arranged marriage and find true love in the new movie. After the death of his father, King Akeem discovered he fathered a son unknowingly in America. Teams return to Queens brings one of the Sequels funniest moments when he revisits a local barber shop where movie magic allows Murphy and costar Arsenio Hall to play multiple parts. Just like in the first film can't be both famine and blood. Damn, Nelson Mandela and Winnie just discovered that I may have a bastard son here in this land conceived during my last visit. How much data supports you getting from the King pays no child support. No time for 30 years and you came back. You're the damn it. Comic Jermaine Fowler plays the sun. Lovell Johnson, who brings King a came home to meet his mother marry played by Saturday night Live alum Leslie Jones. My African I told you he was gonna come back. So you know this man. I definitely know this man. I know this man all the way live much as I love Leslie Jones, she and levels. Other American relatives, including Tracy Morgan, as his uncle Come off is uncomfortable stereotypes as King Akeem introduces his son to the moonda and pressures him into an arranged marriage. Comedy gets clunkier and more predictable, like a Mel Brooks style parody of the Black Panther of The Lion King and the first coming to America. Ultimately, this coming to America is mostly an excuse to bask in the glow of characters who's shown so much brighter and distinctively. 33 years ago. I'm Eric Deggans. The Los Angeles Philharmonic is launching a new season of streaming concerts today called
"eddie murphy" Discussed on The Big Picture
"Fantasy. I'm manda ovens and this is the big picture conversation. Show about eddie murphy. Later in the show. I'll be joined by writer. Director thomas winterberg and mads mikkelsen for an interview about their latest film. Another round which is about a group of middle aged men who believe that alcohol may just be the solution to their troubles. who can relate. I hope you'll stick around for that chat. But first we are joined by van leith in the cost of higher learning and eddie murphy expert to break down the career. One of the greats. What what i what. I what i was going on with guys hanging in there excited to talk about eddie. We're gonna do a hall of fame here so for the folks out there who have never heard hall of fame episode very briefly. Break down what we do on these episodes. We have built halls of fame for tom. Hanks roger deakins. Nancy meyers toshiro buffoon. A monster movies and most recently george clooney. So it's time for eddie. What we doing we build. A hall is ten films from a career. No more no less. He's got forty movies so we got a lot to talk about here. I'm going to start with this. Amanda eddie murphy. What do you think. I think of multiple eddie. Murphy's i think of a lot of characters all in one movie. This is going to be interesting van. I'm really excited to talk to you about all of these because i've been listening to unsurprisingly. There are a lot of rewatch ables movies. Eddie murphy movies on rewatch bulls and i was listening to some of them in. You're on several of them. And you know i had that podcast thing where you want to respond to the person but you know it's a podcast so now you're here and it's a privilege to get to talk to you but for me eddie murphy is a little bit of. It's a generational cork for me. Because i am just. I think a little bit more than both of you and so i became kind of like movie aware movie sentient like mid nineties. Nine hundred ninety five nine hundred ninety six. And i've done a lot of catch up but if you become aware of movies in the mid nineties that means that the first eddie murphy. You get the nutty professor and then milan. And then shrek. I saw shrek in theaters. Not above it. So you know at that point. He's like the elder statesmen of comedy super established. Like i knew the beverly hills cop steam song and dance to it while before i saw it but kind of understanding him as like family eddie murphy and then catching up on everything else. Interesting chronological or not chronological murphy. Experience for me. Then you want to do your history with eddie. I know you are been living with him for a long time. Yes i have been So i hambur what year this was and i don't wanna insult my parents. Every time i mentioned my parents. I get some minor detail wrong and then i have to hear about it into along to our phone call. Your parents listen airpods today. Let's no your show's. I wish they wouldn't but that's nice. Yeah i wish they would but they My father was taking me to see a movie. We were all going to the movies but this time we were breaking it off like my father was taking me to see one of the superman movies. It's either three or four and my sister. My grandmother my mother went to see beverly hills cop two and this was my first experience with with with seeing people so jazz to see a movie because they went this way. Like we went to the superman franchise. I fell off by that point so we went this way and they go this way when they go this way. They're all of these people over there. And i'm like daddy i wanna go over here and he's i know that's too old for you. We're gonna go watch superman. And i say that because that's the moment that i actually became movie sentient by. That's the start of it. That's like what are these people into. Before that i can't tell you when i i kind of became aware of eddie murphy. Because he's like michael jackson in the sense that there was never a time. I wasn't aware of him. I was born in nineteen eighty so by the time. I start getting Information downloaded into me eddie. Murphy's a part of that he's like a part of that thing but the first time. I realized that this guy isn't just a do that. I see on tv or the guy that that he is. The biggest thing in the world is what i saw. People excited to go for it felt. So that's my that's my memory of him and it's not even necessarily what you might call one of his mega classics like beverly hills. Cop two was the event that you can remember that says a lot. And that's eighty seven net says a lot about where we were with. Eddie he was kind of in the middle of i. There are very few movie star runs in the history of movies like the one he had in the eighties. The rise to fame which starts on. Tv i guess tom hanks Robin williams maybe In terms of just successful movies maybe will in there but those movies weren't weren't quite the same as well. what is there were talking about. It's really remarkable when you think about it. There's no like they're not like high concepts with willa was like he needed to be punching an alien in the face to get to this level and like eddie movies are just like it's especially in the eighty s. Eddie is just running around doing stuff. That's that is what this movie is. He's he's being harassed whether he's a cop or he's a convict fresh outta jail or if he's a guy off the street who gets taken into financial institution like it's just it's entirely built around his persona and his sense of humor which is is unusual. We don't see that very much. These days i was just gonna say. Don't underestimate punching an alien and the face but yes. It's a type on the nineties okay. That was like what i grew up but it is a different type of comedy is funny to watch. These movies are funny. These movies are classics. And you know ban. I relate to you just like kind of things just being in the atmosphere and having always been there and then you like actually see coming to america. Are you see trading places and you're like oh okay that's where this comes from by the rhythm of comedy and the style of the comedy is very different certainly from what we have now and certainly from you know the ninety s punching alien and the face i grew up on and you know eddie murphy. Obviously like invents a lot of things but they're very eighties got very very deeply eighty s experience. That is the what you said. Would you say van. Wh when you say what's the first thing you think about when you think of eddie murphy eighties. Yeah i think it's it. It's eighties in its fearlessness. It's eighties in its political incorrectness. Its eighties in the look. It's eighties it some of these movies. You know the artists that define some of these movies musically musically like period of time. You know like if you watch some of these films and you hear the point sisters deported sisters. They are the eighties bats. Kind of the that. That's the deal. So and i don't think about and just like a gateway i didn't you realize that i only knew as a kid was signed. I live was because that's where he came from Well that's the he saved the show right. That's that's how i learned what it was. Yeah it's an interesting thing i mean. I think his origins are fascinating. The Eddie Murphy Hall of Fame
"Are joined by van leith in the cost of higher learning and eddie murphy expert to break down the career. These

Hilaria and Alec Baldwin welcome sixth child
"Eddie Murphy's has got 10 kids s O. The Baldwins now just had their sixth child. So they still have a ways to go to catch up with Eddie Murphy, but Hilaria Baldwin and Alec Baldwin have their sixth child. Everybody's doing fine with that. The guess the the interesting part of this is that she just had a baby like seven months ago. S o. You know, they're cranking them out like crazy in that Baldwin family
The Lucas Bros, Using Humor 'To Shake Folk Woke'
"Kenny and Keith Lucas are stand up comedians and identical twins. People don't have to react when I see twins. No. Okay, they go crazy like we were in the supermarket looking for some Jell O. Yeah. And we're just about to pick it out. And then some dude came out of nowhere. It was like, you know, you guys have a stick of Doublemint gum. That's from their 2017. Netflix special Lucas brothers were having a moment right now they're writing and starring in a remake of Revenge of the Nerds, But they also wrote the story for the new movie Judas and the Black Messiah. The film premieres today in theaters and on HBO. Max NPR's Elizabeth Blair has this profile. The Lucas brothers are best known for a kind of stoner humor. And here's a rule of thumb You should never do. Shrooms wouldn't do Who looks like you, man. I'm telling you. But underneath the jokes, there's a serious side that draws heavily on their childhood in the housing projects of Newark, New Jersey, called the Garden spires is you always, you know, broken elevators infested with rats and rotten Drug dealing violence everywhere, But you know, there's a community that is people that there's families is my family When they were six years old there, Dad went to prison. My father actually is out of prison. He's not in prison anymore, and it sucks that he's out. I wish he was still there. Oh, yeah. I wanted to go back because all he wants to do is father's sight. Don't like do we pay rent? Now it's over. The Lucas Brothers connection to Newark got the attention of New Jersey Senator Cory Booker in 1999, then a Newark City councilman, Booker went on a hunger strike in front of the Garden spires. He also served as the city's mayor. Here's Booker talking to the Lucas brothers on his instagram. I love your insightful, hard hitting humor and the sort of the Eddie Murphy and S O. My great heroes Coming up, you know, were uncompromising how they used humor to shake folks woke like book arm. Keith and Kenny Lucas went to law school and why you and Duke, But unlike Booker, they dropped out. It was weird Tonto Study law and and kind of be poor and black because it's like, Oh, I see what The consequences of policy and law are like on a daily basis, and especially when it in relation to African Americans and the notion of criminality and how it's projected onto blacks and I see that process. I found myself sort of disengaged very early. I always said, you know what I want to do something that has a direct impact on people. From an emotional standpoint, Judas and the Black Messiah is very emotional. Lucas brothers were in college when they first learned about Fred Hampton, the charismatic leader of the Illinois Black Panther Party in the 19 sixties in the movie he's played by Daniel Cholula, Mother Liberating You can't Murder Liberation is another revolutionary, but you can't murder a revolution for murder Freedom fighter, but you get amount of freedom. He's the Black Messiah. Judas is William O'Neal, an African American who was arrested for interstate car theft and Impersonating a federal officer in the movie. We see how the FBI recruited O'Neill to avoid jail time and earn some money. He was instructed to infiltrate the Black Panther Party. And provide the FBI with information about Hampton O'Neill is played by like Keith Stanfield Target You Like some good information, some nobody else No. Is it some kind of bonuses? I'm I'm counting on it. Bill O'Neill became so much of a Panther insider. He was put in charge of security. He provided the FBI with a floor plan of Hampton's apartment in 1969. The Chicago police raided the apartment and killed two Black Panther leaders, including Hampton for the Lucas Brothers. It was essential to tell the story of how the FBI recruited informants in the black community. I think it's important to see just how insidious The system has been in turning young African Americans against one another. Now they Essentially used poor black people against poor black people to execute their goals of minimizing the threat of black messiah is like we just felt it was important to see both sides of the coin. Whether it's a historical drama or its stand up comedy for the Lucas Brothers. It all comes from the same source in a big thing about our act is that we we always try to ground it and stuff that we've gone through, and it's always been Important for us to talk about these systemic issues and a variety of ways. Now they're writing and will star in Seth McFarland reimagining of 1980 four's Revenge of the Nerds Practice a bunch after school. They called US nerds. So one cool. The Lucas brothers promise that their movie will be almost nothing like the original because times have changed. It's like the juxtaposition of being a bully and a nerd is so different from what it was like in the eighties, where you had this one, a stark dichotomy between what it was bullying what it was to be a nerd. Now that's been fused together, and I think That's why the time is right to make a story about that. The Lucas brothers say it's hard to watch the original revenge of the nerds. Even though the movie was a childhood staple. They're excited to give it an update and to make it personal. Elizabeth Blair. NPR news

Film Academy Announces New Diversity Requirements For Best Picture Nominees
"Academy has long relied on the film industry to make diversity central to its process and has long been embarrassed at the results. Hashtags Oscar's so White and Oscar's so mayl have greeted recent telecasts. But it's hardly a new problem. Back in 1988 Eddie Murphy took a moment while announcing the best picture nominees to say he almost didn't agree to do it because in 60 years, the Oscars had only three times honored black performers. Hattie McDaniel, Sidney Poitier and Lou Gossett Jr now

How Sasha Merci and Dee Nasty Found Their Comedic Calling
"So. Do you to know each other? Okay, so my family and her family were friends way before we were even born, so we were always see to their at family gatherings when we were younger, and then we started getting very close in our teenage years. And that's when we find that. We were identical. Identical yes Indian. D- what was Sasha like as a kid? Sasha was very artistic like I remember when I would see Sasha's especially, because when we were kids, we kind of hated hearing about each other, because our parents were kind of against each other like my mother would always be like Oh. You Know Sasha is doing a plane school in her middle school and high school. And I, and then her aunt, who was had would be like. Oh, well, you know D- Get straight as all the time so. Tired of hearing each other about each other all the time I don't even want to hear, but what we started becoming a little older, and we were forming our own opinions about one another I just remember her being so bad cystic always drawing, always thinking always creating. So loving energy always the first thing you would see when you see especially when she was younger well still. You know as a first impression is. She would always argue she has always like loving, so that was how I remember her as a kid. Sasha! What was do you like? D. was very smart like I. Just knew if you WanNa, know something is I d, Goretti, she. She knew facts all the time, so my aunt was telling me that she has straight as I was very impressed by how young she was, and how she was how she was able to articulate herself and I'm like man animal. He'd been an artsy fartsy and I can't even express myself like she. She can, but. One of the things that I do definitely remember as has a huge heart, and she's just willing to help anybody she she's. She's willing to save everybody and that's one thing I admire about her. She's amazing. Do when you were kids. Did you think that comedy was in the cards for you? I knew that it was going to be in the cards. In some shape or form at come from a very funny family, everyone's always roasting each other. And then my older brother also was very into comedy, and there was one TV how I would have to, but he was watching because there was another option, and he at a very early age I knew about Richard Pryor Eddie Murphy. So I knew that I wanted to do it because. It was something that will show my humor, and also my phone very strongly about something where I wanted to just talk about some recently learned the vile that can be a sluice fast, but if you make it into humor, if you make it funny that everybody wants to listen to it. And Sasha for you know. I didn't think comedy Liz. Ever going to be something that I was going to pursue because I wanted to be a singer. I wants to be the next Whitney. Houston and I didn't like her, but I wanted to make songs and. Just, people were always tell me like you're funny like you're you have a for a funny personality or you not to make jokes, and that also stems from my family, because we don't know how to be serious and if anything. That's. Dramatic happens in the family. We always tend to figure out what's funny, but they also put me onto Dave Chapelle Eddie Murphy and all these. Great giants that I look up to these these days you know.
Finding Success With Kevin Hart
"Kevin Hart has officially reached. Rock Star status. Selling out venues across the globe now he is expanding his dominance off the stage. He has starred in three films and Tacoma the entertainer of the year at the N. Double ACP image awards. Kevin invited me to his home in Los Angeles on a rare day off. excited. On this way after you. Hear all that stuff is custom chandeliers. WHO. Can I look at this at this rate. Almost spy ish, like very nice, very lax, but not too much. How deep is the pool? kid-friendly Gift From and Kevin from all to? There if not no, you about five and a half. That's good. That's perfect preface journey as you can stand up and stand up can save. That's great so now that this has been your year, the stats are you've had three hit films to in the top ten former movies in production right now. A hit television show a huge following on social media. Because of the way you were raised. It feels like what to you because there's some people whose head would be blown off by now, and we would see it rolling down the hill. For me, you know what? I believe hard work pays off you know. When you say has been has been my year. It's my time. Hollywood has wave making everything seemed like overnight success Oh my God. Where did this guy come from all this kid? Who is he look? It's a massive star. Eighteen years in the business. You put ten thousand hours. I'll put in my Tom I got I got dues that that have been paid and paid again and pay one more time after that I stayed shooting my dreams, and by doing that eventually came true, but it has there has to be something. I won't say special about you. Because I believe we all have the same human abilities possibilities. Not Everybody can do the same thing, but there has to be something. That is different because there are lots of people who try and there are lots of people who want it, and there are lots of people who have the desire. What was the difference? Do you think for you to difference to me? was I paid attention to what people did before me whether it was right or wrong? Everybody's successful as a for now. You laid a blueprint You know I can go down and Lis- from. To actors entrepreneurs to self-made Mogul Jay. Z, look at Tyler Perry. You look at Puff I mean. You're looking at people that start off with a small. And that vision manifested in something beyond expectation, so what I did was from the people around me. My Mentors Eddie Murphy Chris, Rock, prior. We're all on the wall to wall all so you surround yourself a surround myself with a constant reminder of whose great. Constantly come down steps every day. I look Richard Bill. He's great. He was great. I see Chris Rock. He was great I it's a constant reminder. What am I trying to achieve I want to be great, so that motivates me, so things separates me is my draw my driver's other people's success. It's so interesting because you get compared a lot to Eddie Murphy because not since Eddie Murphy has anybody. You recently brought Roka's record at the Nokia, theatre. In Two thousand eleven during his laugh at my pain tour Kevin's. Ince's. At L. A.'s Nokia theatre were record breaking with over one point. One million dollars in ticket sales Kevin Surpassed Eddie Murphy's record. I don't care what I achieved and is there I? Don't care what financial number they put aside any accomplishment. That I how many tickets you saw how many people feel can't. You can't outdo with Eddie Murphy did I'm I'm sitting here so solid? I believe back. I can't I can't do that
Human Speech Evolution Gets Lip Smacking Evidence
"Imagine it jetting to a chimp in chimpanzee whether portray by REX. Harrison Eddie Murphy or Robert Downey Junior Dr. doolittle learn to talk to animals, but in reality signs has remains some distance from solving the long standing question of how we humans learn to talk during our evaluation, his one new clue, a team for searches in Great Britain have demonstrated how the rapid succession of opening and closing mouth rhythms by chimpanzees. Lip smacking mimics the natural pace, acumen mouths talking. The. Findings are in the journal Biology Letters. This phenomenon has been observed before in other ape species who performed lip smacking movements at around five hurts, which falls within a range of mouth, opens, and closes characteristic of all spoken languages namely between two and seven huts, but this lip smacking timing connection had not been made in our closest. Relatives until now mouth and vocal signals with speech like rhythm, Hetero been observed in some monkeys in gibbons and Orangutans, one of our closest great relatives, so the last years had seen accumulating evidence that these rhythm other than something that only talking humans do. This was the rhythm from deeper within our prime ancestry recycled so to speak as a cornerstone for speech pollution. The Mirror of University of Warwick. Who led the study, but the sense of evolutionary continue towards speech steelhead, a big gap to cross the African Apes. There was no evidence for speech like rhythm, neither in Gorillas Bonobos nor chimpanzees, the study followed two captive populations of chimpanzees one in the UK. I'm wanting Germany as well is to wild populations in Uganda. Researchers observed lip smacking at an average of four point one five hurts the made all the observations whenever a chimpanzee was grooming another think of a hairdresser engaging an idle chatter with a customer at the Beauty Salon, the coffee mation of speech like rhythm of the mouth into Pansies, not revealed per se how language came about in our own lineage, but he offers the final confirmation to scientists that we are looking at the right place that. That, we are on the right track to solve this mystery. In that great apes in captivity in the wild steel have to reveal all their secrets about human nature in human origins, Numero also notes the variation in Lips. Mac Times both between and within the chimp groups do not appear to be hardwired rather the lip smacking variability likely reflected how individual differences and environmental factors and even social conventions affect how chimpanzees communicate with each other. Even Dr Doolittle will be amazed.
"eddie murphy" Discussed on 20 Minute Morning Show
"I'm looking at the hypocrisy among black celebrities. They can choose to pick on bill cosby but they won't say anything. Out of their mouths about Harvey Weinstein Harvey Weinstein is being allowed to pay this large large sum of money to his accusers and not having to admit guilt. Bill Cosby wasn't afforded the same opportunity. They put this Eighty eighty plus year old man in prison and Harvey Weinstein. A may be likely to. He may not serve any prison time. So why. Don't the Oprah Winfrey and Eddie Murphy and all these other celebrities say anything about Harvey Weinstein. I'll tell you why because they are afraid of the Jewish Backlash Lash if you began picking on a man who was pretty much responsible for opening doors for you in Hollywood. I doubt very seriously if you'll find any black celebrity not one black celebrity going against the Jewish Hollywood establishment because they are cowards. I even saw my brother the game because you know fifty cent came out against Oprah Winfrey Russell. Simmons is being being harassed. Now by Oprah Winfrey with this do documentary about his alleged sexual excavates with women who he said He. You had consensual sex with so oprah. Winfrey is now doing a documentary based off of that part of Russell Simmons Life and she did something on Michael Jackson's life. But why aren't you doing anything on Harvey Weinstein. You've taken pictures with him they you. We've seeing Oprah Winfrey and pictures with her kissing Harvey Weinstein just making all over him. And why isn't she exposing her friend. You I know why again it goes back to the Jewish lobby. You're you're not going to go against the the Hollywood Jewish establishment because they pay your bills. They open open doors for you and they can shit you out of the industry so it's easy pickings to talk about Bill Cosby Amanda. Don't control nothing. He he can't stop you from being in a movie. Can't stop you from having a television special. He can't stop any distribution of your material but the juice can and Harvey Weinstein Women One of the most powerful men in Hollywood. He can stop it. You know that twenty five million dollars that He's GONNA pay out to his accuses uses. He's not paying. A dime company is banned at so my question is what is going on. Who are these people?.
"eddie murphy" Discussed on Ellen on the Go
"Now let's let's just go back for a second because is is called Ellen on the go. We never knew her. I know this is why people don't listen idiots. Okay Eddie Murphy this is I think this is interesting. And maybe it's interesting to the listener but I'm sure you'll let us know. Eddie Murphy is a comedy legend. When he was on Saturday night live live which was now at least twenty years ago or more? He was brilliant and he played outrageous. Characters I it was as big a star whereas you Saturday night live I mean he he may be the biggest star to ever have emerged from. SNL right he's massive. Here's a giant. TV Star became a giant. The movie starred overly hills COP coming to America so but what he's not he's not that guy in a conversation tation like he's not the guy you saw he's actually quite cerebral And even like kind of quiet you know and unlike some talk show guests like like Ray Romano who will prepare material and work on it with the producer for days and days and days. Eddie Murphy when he doesn't do a lot and when he does do it he he just shows up like to have a conversation. 'cause material exactly. I think we've talked about Eddie before on the podcast or maybe not. What a stand up? He was standing growing up his cassette. I would listen to over and over. See I would listen to Richard Pryor. It's dominated it is that I would listen to Richard Pryor and And you would listen to like he was. He was really growing the New York City. He was kind of the only stand up. You would hear who actually had an album or Kosovo. You could also watch him. Yeah on fire. You couldn't watch. You had Richard Pryor at a movie Richard Richard Pryor. He did a movie of one of his concert. Yeah a movie of one of his career one of his shows right. That's true but and Eddie I I learned Dataman SNL but then. I only had a cassette because that was because I didn't hear a lot of stand ups unless I went to somewhere to watch stand up and yeah but I mean Eddie Murphy Raw. Aw Yeah that was crazy so good. Yeah Eddie Murphy but so anyway so just to finish he so as a result. He's a sort of a cerebral talk. Show guests gassed. You know. He's not he's not what you think he's going to be which can be tricky for producers because they want them to be Eddie Murphy that guy but they have this like Mutual Eddie Murphy and Ellen have this mutual will affection and respect for each other. That is really special. They've both done the practically impossible which is succeed as standup comedians. On a large scale and they have respect for each other on. That and Eddie Murphy hasn't made a lot of movies lately lately and keeps talking about maybe going back to stand up but there's one thing Eddie Murphy has been doing consistently over the last thirty years having babies. He's been having a lot of abating this this was. I couldn't wait for him to talk about. This Eddie Murphy has ten kids and the age range of ten kids. His youngest is one years old and his oldest is thirty years old so sad it again say it again. Youngest Child One years old oldest child thirty years old is their grandchild there is. There's a five five months old grandchild. That's amazing I have a child who's one and a grandchild who's five months ago that is an undeniable like he just talks about it just going like I love of having kids and I love having everybody around and it's great fun and he has a great time and he's a homebody and but him discussing with Ellen how women react act to him. Having ten kids versus how men react. Ten kids is really funny so funny technical. Take a listen so you have as we just mentioned you have this new baby baby who is now a year old right. New is a year old and you have ten children ten children..
