"What do they do touchdown touchdown touchdown victory formation. That's it i mean. It was so. And then the have eddie jackson and to shawn gibson and barky christians nickel either. All veteran players to have those types of mental lapses brady jackson not to touch down Robert woods of the rams for them to miss so many tackles khalil. Mack had a half had one assisted tackle in forty four snaps. I mean that is not what you're paying for. So i think my assessment is the same assessment the bears at internally. That was a burn. The tape awful type game by their feet and they better pick it up this weekend against a very good quarterback who has a lot of good weapons against an offense has come under chicago with a lot of confidence. I can't imagine joe burrow. He must have been struck around that. The tape i mean. Why wouldn't you think that he's not gonna come to chicago this weekend. And just pour points on these guys after what they showed in week. One i do think mo though. It is a better defense than what you saw. But they put that into practice because if they play like they play defensively. There's no way they win. The early returns when matinee got the job. We're pretty good and it feels like everything's gone wrong since he's being made fun of because he's in the mcdonald's commercial up there. The fields dalton thing has has not necessarily played out the way it feels like a lot of bears fans would like how. How long is the organization's leash with matt. Nagy you know. Matinee has two years left on his deal and a lot of people asked this question. You know with matt nagy just a play caller and not a head coach. I would actually mo argue the opposite. I think matt nagy can be a good head coach. I just think the play calling has been so spotty that he's got a lot to prove in this apartment. But i mean the players like him. He keeps it. Lucy runs a great up mean in terms of just how things are run during the week from the nuts and bolts type stuff. He's very popular. He's very well liked. They love them in the building. Knows everybody's name. i know. These are not things that matter. What matters is winning games but there's a lot of like that he does. Unfortunately it all gets overshadowed by the offense because that is why is in chicago. That's why he's the bears head coach because he comes on that. Andy re-treatment kansas city in philadelphia. He's got that pedigree he was supposed to bring that system to the bears and it just hasn't worked. It didn't work with trubisky. You know the first game with dalton they had to get the ball out quick. They moved the ball of times again. You only score fourteen point many games in this league. I really think it would take a catastrophe of season for the bears to make these big massive wholesale changes that people were calling for after the year. But you know they go into and then they're all three and the schedule gets even tougher after their trip to vegas In early october You couldn't be looking at a season like that. The bears don't want that to happen. Desperately they love to keep him but You know he's gotta gotta have a good year this year..

"The Jackson pushes them to mimic his ball hawking mentality. Well, separation. You're gonna make a tackle. You can get the football. Come on, bro. Everybody can talk him. Dude wasn't separate you, bro. You still fight for a spot? A million people get tackled, Everybody can get the ball. Everybody can tackle. No, you can't. That's first of all. And second of all, you haven't Paul Hawken in a long time. This is a trend again. We went over this on. What was it on Friday? Where you know, we asked the question. Can this defense be dominant again? And I gave you all of the numbers 2000 and 18 was very, very, very special. 2000 and 19. The takeaways went down drastically. The sacks went down, but they were still the number four scoring defense in the league. 2000 and 20 was more more of a decline where again the sack totals went down. The takeaways went down. And now you're scoring defense was 13th or 14th in the league. So look at the trend is your friend in terms of predicting the future future, so Like what happened last night is it's hard to watch. But it's not overly surprising in a lot of ways because the trend is pointing in this direction. The sack totals are down. The takeaways are going down Your offensive or your defensive front is aging. And you are secondary, which we've highlighted A law for a very long time now is is missing some guys at the cornerback position. I think Jaylin Johnson is going to be really good player, but we've seen the decline of Eddie Jackson. I thought Gibson played good played well last year, But what are you going to do with your nickels Spotted? You're dying corner spot at the other corner spot. To think that the Rams were going to go out there with an excellent game plan and execute excellent play caller with a quarterback that is now in a system that protects him with a group of weapons. And to think that they weren't going to go out there and have success would be naive now where you think in 386 yards, eight yards per play and 34 points per game. No, that wasn't on my mind. But the trend is predicting that this is not going to be a season where this defense is going to be dominant like Like years gone by 18 when they broadcast that Bears Packers game and they were showing you all the cut ups of the defense and Khalil Mack, these are the cutups. They were showing you yesterday. Running.

Paul Hawken Jaylin Johnson Eddie Jackson Khalil Mack 13th 386 yards 14th Gibson 34 points Friday Bears Packers eight yards yesterday Rams last year last night Jackson first second A million people

"Get blown out Sunday night Football. 34 to 14. The defense completely collapsed, collapsed and failed. And, uh, did not do a lot of the basic things that we expect them to do. Even if you don't have, like top 10 defense expectations for this crew The offensive game plan. Waddell's got some good synopsis on that that Nagy just spoke right now. I'm going to play you some samples of that in just a little bit, But I want to make sure that you load up the phone lines now, with 3123323776 as we like to do. We love to open up the phone lines and the day after a bears game. Let you voice your opinion. It is our opinions and is your opinions and you are our guests. It is guest free, and we react to the bear's going to O N. One against France, But Matt Nagy, I guess the biggest takeaways for me, at least from at Maggie's press conference was at least He said that they are not going to give much more time to Justin Fields that they are where they're at. As far as the way the plan has gone. I don't know if he would announce that today anyway. Um, and that he really In my opinion, did not hold the defense's feet to the fire. You showed me and Mike Vrabel soundbite about Julio Jones and about a bad Julio Jones penalty. Matt Nagy didn't want to ruffle any feathers with the defense as far as guys, not downing players who are already laying down on the turn. He called it a teaching moment. Good morning experience. Whatever a learning experience like if you haven't already learns that a receiver down under his own Whatever. Is allowed to get up and run for as long as he wants to, unless you touch him. If you don't already know that then your football like you isn't where it needs to be. It's not a teaching moment or a learning experience. It's a findable offense for professional football player. Period. End of story. It's not acceptable. And that's what match should be telling. Look, I'm not gonna get all dialed into what the coach said. Because my eyes tell me that you've got bigger issues than the words coming out of the coach's mouth. But that's that's a final offense. That's not a learning experience. Learning experiences occur when with with youthful players at lower levels, or maybe a rookie. You know, I'll give you an example of a learning experience Justin Fields in the preseason when he didn't set the protection the way that it needed to be set, and he took one on the chin from one of the Buffalo Bills. Defenders flew off. That's a learning experience for Justin Fields. Eddie Jackson is beyond learning experience Moments. Gibson's Beyond those moments as well. So like Those are findable offenses. To me. Those aren't learning experiences and look, it's one game, so I'm sure the coach's perspective is is it always is is we're all going to be pulling on the same end of the rope right now. We don't want to cause any more. You know, trouble than is already, you know, starting to swirl around, so we're going to. We're going to play this with kid gloves. You know, the that's silliness. You know you were You were joking with me and how worked up I was getting all week last week. Yeah, I just I was And I'm not people were tweeting me saying, Sylvia, you embarrassed. I'm not embarrassed today. I'm not embarrassed as a bear fan. I'm exhausted. I am exhausted Already after Game one from this coaching staff, I'm exhausted of Matt Nagy is bad plans, whether it's a game plan or whether it's a big picture Justin Fields plan He continues to show me that I cannot trust him. He's a brutal, brutal offensive coordinator. If he was simply just the offensive coordinator of this team and not the head coach with the record of plus 500 attached to his name because he's been the head coach when the defense was really good. Matt Nagy would have been fired long ago. Long ago. A matter of fact, he's already fired an offensive coordinator on his staff. He's already fired in offensive line coach on his staff. He's under other coaches. David Gone, left the building. The running backs coach left the building in this offseason, but Matt Nagy is his bad as anything inside that locker room when it comes to calling plays. During a football game and then the lack of accountability for Eddie Jackson. This is the other thing that has been annoyed and exhausted in that embarrassed is If you do a Google search, I showed this to waddle of Eddie Jackson and Ed Reed. To Google search just type in the names Eddie Jackson and Ed Reed. And we're talking about a Hall of Famer and we're talking about. A player who cannot tackle And a couple of years ago. There were all these comments of Eddie Jackson being in the end, read mold. And Mark Pot. Ash. I thought did a good job today trying to get some answers from that, Maggie, But I also thought his direction of questioning was off. He wants to point the finger at Sean decide. And I've been through this before with the Cubs, and they're hitting coaches. The Cubs couldn't hit for a lot of years because their players underachieved. It was Rizzo was by as it was KB. We've been through all that. I don't want to relitigate that. But the point is, is it was Chili Davis's fault. One year it was this off. It was this hitting coach. Shit. It's not shine to size fault that Eddie Jackson didn't tackle or doesn't want to tackle Eddie Jackson has been a pro bowler. Eddie Jackson and believe it's been in all pro any. Jackson has got to know how to tackle Andy Jackson has got to know that role. This is not a Sean decide issue. This is a player's issue and that is horrible. What happened yesterday and he's just a symptom of a lot of it as well. This defense gave up 386 yards and 34 points so that the Sean McVeigh trend is intact where the Sean McVeigh Rams in the opening game of the season are undefeated in average over 30 points per game They scored, the Bears were giving up better than eight yards per play..

"As much as he ran doesn't seem like he's he's playing games with the media But i my other impression. Let's flip it from not a meteor perspective. But i have never seen so many defensive takeaway drills in camp now lovey. Smith had a lot because that was huge. Lovey spin. But i have not seen there. Were some interesting drills. You and i were talking about the one with the defensive backs where they were. You know they backpedaled and then they had to turn and then find the ball and intercept it. It's it was almost like a drill. The teach out get interception on a hail. Mary attempt almost and i was really really interested especially in the takeaway drills because look paper. That is one of the things that the bears as a team overall obviously with the defense but team overall really need improve upon limiting takeaways from the offense which we didn't see any drills covering that but i would hope and assume that there are many ball protected protection drills being executed a bears camp with the defense. That was the biggest problem last season. Was you have these big name guys. Roquan smith eddie jackson last year. Kyle fuller khalil. Mack akiem hicks. That are are still good. Players still producing aren't having takeaways and that was what sat the bears team from a couple of years ago when they lost in the divisional round of the playoffs. Carter fangio johm. That was like the whole calling card. Fangio's defense is how great they were with the takeaways and taking and returning those takeaways for good field position or for touchdowns to simplify the offense and so to see the bears working on that was really good especially with the secondary that they have been very shaky. Eddie jackson has been practicing Jaylen johnson is the headline cornerback. Coming into his second season. He was pretty good last year. Not amazing so it'll be interesting to see what they do with what they have bought based on the drills. We saw especially with the defense so far so good. Yeah i i was very interested to see that also saw a drill and which Their punter petco. Donald was working on a fake punt and throwing the ball and that was pretty amazing because he had a he has a good arm those he put a nice little spiral. Ironically enough like the real highlight of trubisky's debut. Several years ago. Monday night football. If i was that exact fake punt with pat o'donnell where he threw the ball to the right side up field and got. I don't know if the bears got a touchdown out of that. But i just remember that being like like the highlight of the game and So to see them still working on stuff. Like that because yeah. I think that with the new quarterback whether it be dalton airfields in week one. It'll probably dalton Totally new offense hopefully totally new personnel. Totally new everything. Because whatever was going on last year's wasn't working on hopefully we do the get a little more creative more downfield shots now that you have capable quarterback to do that. Some more trick plays on special teams or on offense because at the start of nagy's tenure with the bears it was a trick plays right were like handing it off to trey burton for on this directive direct snaps throwing rally so well in the end zone on sunday night football..

"That's for sure. Thanks a lot. You know, that's I still can't get over the side by side of he and bland at the same age. I mean, Blaine to look like the marble. The Marlboro Man. He looked like He was 80 years old. I'm sure tough. What attacks were talking about your go said about they had cigarette ass trays welded onto the lockers right out loud. Let's go to JD and Dallas. What's up? J. D. Hey, what's happening, guys? Or you made about it? Hey, man, I think this press conference was beyond bad. I think it was classic. I mean, when you have them out there saying we've gotten the QB situation Have we gotten a QB situation, right? No. Have we wanted enough games? No. Everything else is there. They put it all on Tra vis key. But mad You took the credit but your biscuit when he was playing well when he said, See, I told you what happened when you trust yourself for biscuits not responsible for developing player. He's not responsible for Eddie Jackson, not tackling the guy throwing punches. He's not responsible, taken a year and a half to find out. Montgomery can run the ball. It's you know, it's like naggy. Maggie took Robiskie, a guy who played 13 games in college and pair them with the cultures who called four games. The office of coordinator and we want to put this all on service Key. I mean, I'm not saying service gives Lamar Jackson but Labarre Jackson is not a M V P quarterback their offices system has made him made him that They want a playoff game with Jackson thought for 190 yards with no touchdowns and one intercept. They're adaptable. You can't and you can't get me through on the three points. In this game with this team. I mean, that's a joke. They're complete joke and they're beyond their beyond back there. Just at the point. Where did this classroom change? Fair enough. Good point. Thank you. Yeah. I mean, you know, they found Greg Roman has found a way quite brilliantly, too. Utilize the strength, I suppose and do what they do best on they run the ball up, but they still can score a lot. You know they might do it slightly different than most modern NFL teams. But Even though there are run heavy offense, they score a lot. I mean, I want to say Baltimore. Still what seventh in the league, I think in scoring. Thanks. So seven. I think we certainly in the top 10. Well, they had the highest point differential that they had the highest differential. That's right, and I mean, they can really put points on the board and score they they can score 28 again. At what point Don't we realize when a team wins? The quarterback is going to get all the credit When a team loses, it's going to get the blame. It's an inordinate amount of credit when they win. It's an inordinate amount of blame when they lose, but that's the way it is. "Illegal contact holding all of that comes into play, especially for defensive back Because the plate took so long to develop first down and goal at the two after the pedal emotion Taysom Hill gets to carry on the sweep, trying to get to the edge. Taysom Hill gonna be knocked out of bounds at the one yard line. Eddie Jackson closing on Hill. Jackson able to knock him out Don't market but to no gain on the play good. Played by Eddie Jackson and Tasting Hill, running from left to right just could not get his body lean forward. And any Jackson coming from the inside out. Did a nice job knocking Taysom Hill out of bounds, but not up to see Taysom Hill is a load when you see him In person you're going. This guy is thick second gold two yard line. Hill is the quarterback now in the shotgun. On second board to gets the snap stops jump pass for the end zone deflected away and completing the flag down in the end zone. Josh Hill, the intended receiver. Is very similar to what they used to do with Tim Tebow. Back in Florida. He go up to the line, then backpedal in shot. Put a pass to the end zone flag is thrown. Josh Hill, the intended receiver, interference defense number. 59 Ball is placed at the one yard line automatic first down, and that standing survey thing called for that pass interference, so it's first down and goal from the water. There was never any separation between receiver and defender. But the fact that Danny pervaded had his back to the quarterback and never turn to play the ball. You're going to get a flag so now first and goal at the one yard line two bears penalties resetting the down This from one Kamara and Burton's in the eye behind Breeze Breeze stumbling out of his break. Hands it off to comm. Erin, Come here is gonna lose yardage. That play broken from the snap is Bree's stumbled out of his break may have got tripped by his center as he pulls it and gives it to Camaro who's buried at the three yard line leading the way, Joelle Boonie way this 30 Year, man from Western consumption. You know, the Bears are sending a little message. Talbot Camaro. We know you had 16 touchdowns rushing during the course here. You know you had six in those red and green shoes. You only got him the gold. Choose today. Gold shoes don't get you attention. They hit him three yards deep in the back building that last play. So it's second gold ball all the way back near the four yard line 100 Little dynamics that I like about the new situation that we have. If you get to extend down the sideline a little further because of Copan, where they want everybody to spread out so saints will take a time out here before this second and goal play from the four yard line 8 53 remaining In the fourth at a 14 3 advantage for the New Orleans.

"You hang around You hang around you hang around. You get a big break, and then you go down the field and you punch in the end zone And it felt in the moment like they're gonna go down and score. They're gonna win this game 20 to 19 and the Vikings gonna be kicking themselves for being terrible special teams, right? And that was how the game was gonna end and then To your point, they throw the screen. Alan Robinson is the bad called Bad execution. It gets blown up, and then on the next play, you have a potential, you know, home run game winning Plato, Anthony Miller. That's just a Ah hair too, too deep and you turn the ball over on downs, right and then It's all over. It's all over. Then you got it again. I mean, you know you didn't have a lot of time, but you didn't get the ball again. Then they broke Nick Foles explosion and guys the sad part about this, You know, you go back through the re watching and you look at the guys right now. There's there's so much more acclaim than they're getting its role. Kwan Smith and the way he's playing in Cairo, Santos and the way he's kicking, it's Patterson the way he's returning Kickoffs. Right now. I know we can talk about him as an afterthought on offense and shouldn't really be out there as much as he is, but he's doing terrific things on special teams for them, and there's a lot of guys Like that that are doing their jobs and deserve to be playing in the playoffs. And, you know again, Eddie Jackson, in my opinion, one of the most respected leaders in that locker room and for him to go in the locker room last night and sort of Bring everybody together and try to rally them is a sign of maturity and it's a sign of strength and it's a sign off the leader who needs to be sort of praise for what he's trying to do in this I got to the end of the room call the very last night. That said, Eddie, You know, you've talked a lot about holding guys accountable. Picking guys heads up when they're down. None of this fixes what has brought you down for the past two years, which is a terrible offense that can't get out of its own way. And so all of that stuff ends up being meaningless is well intentioned and its passionate as you are. It doesn't fix your terrible offense. And so that's what the defense is left. Dealing with they're fighting. They're fighting. They're fighting and it can do nothing about what is actually causing this team to fail every single week. Dan really quick. Nick Foles is not hurt as bad as we thought, right? Not, you know, Matt says that there's a possibility that he could be back in action next week. So you know, e mean we're in. We're in this position that we're we're We're backed it mistresses, Nick, Right and On doesn't matter, right? And doesn't matter and man guys, I could talk to two hours about. You know what? We started the conversation with just in terms of the Are you willing to identify mediocrity and few identify it? Do you know what to do about it? And that is the question that we have to keep. Ryan the ball on and I think that's you know, kind of what we have to do. Going forward rather than getting caught up in the minutia of each game because the big picture stuff is so much more meaningful than ever getting out of this right. Do you have the appetite for change and significant change? Yes, yes, preach it. Dan. Great stuff. Thank you. Hi, fellas. Be good. There's Dan Wieder. Load up. "All right. So we're talking about the bears, because, well, you know what? That defense isn't as great as we know. We thought it was. I mean, look, Look, if if we look at the team, he said, Okay, What? What? What side is better? It's always been defense with the Bears. But over the past three years, there's been a little Erosion unless you say Yeah, you think so? 3123323776 colors hang in there. We'll get right back to you. This is from today. Sometimes the Bears defense under Shark Bogado struggling to replicate the takeaway success, Um We all know they had the 36 takeaways in 2018 that's wrapped to 19 last year, And this year after nine games, they have nine takeaways. So just won a game compared to 36 2018. Now they're run defense. Anybody teach the peanut punch? Means that a thing that someone should just someone should just teach tackling. That would be a good because start there, you know, in place. I really wanna love Eddie Jackson. But if Eddie Jackson doesn't learn how to tackle some people, they're going to keep wanting to go at him because he can't tackle And Kyle Fuller is not a great tackler, either my opinion you could disagree with you if you went on the run defense also has suffered from first under Fangio in 2018 to ninth last year. 14 this year, Um says here they saw the neck for rising to the challenge against great running backs, but that Ronald Jones rushed for 106 yards against the Bears. Adrian Peterson, 93 14 carries Malcolm Brown of the Rams. 57 10 carries and then last week, their country and they shot him down. Okay, they slow down Derrick Henry, who's held the 68 yards on 21 carries but what the challenge they have on Monday. Went back and watched the Minnesota game from last week. It's that the Delvian cook is good. Calvin Cooke is so much better than anybody on the field. It's amazing. The biggest problem they've had with him is keeping him healthy. He's healthy now. Here's what he's done in his last two games. Against the Packers. 30 carries 163 yards and three touchdowns against the Lions last week. 22 carries 206 yards and two touchdowns and he catches the ball and swing passes. He catches the ball on screen passes. The mayor's defense is going to be severely challenged this week. How is the old line for Four minutes. Good enough. It's good enough things because they can be found on the roll. Re is always the guy that people say is just gonna run right over you and the past couple times we've seen them. We've stopped him, which I mean, that's a bright spot in otherwise. Well, Here's what happened. The last time the bear's face Dalvin Cook. Hey, was hold the 35 yards on the ground. So now they've got another test. If you could slow him down, they can do okay. And and then get to Kirk cousins. Kirk cousins can be gotten to. I mean, this bears defense hopefully can do some of that on Monday. Well, how about some positivity on the offensive side? Scott from Oakland, Michigan. I think it's Oakland, Michigan. Is this guy in Michigan? No, it's Oakland, California. Okay, That's my mistakes where I wanted to go out in California. You want to go to Michigan. I dad used to live in San Ramon. My dad used to live on that area and Walnut Creek and all that stuff, so I should have known better. Okay. What's up, Scott? So tell us about this positivity about the offense. Well, that's actually I have a have a light at the end of the tunnel example tight in the old Raiders. All right. Okay. So you know, with a big offense turned around the 2000 and nine Raiders scored. That was the last to Marcus season. 197 points. 16.4 points, a game five and 11 record. 2010 records are Raiders Now that was with you, Jackson and I know you didn't do so well in Cleveland, but that's how he got the job. He did some good offensive coordinator. 420 points. This season, 25 points a game. He get that with Jason Campbell. Little bit of Bruce Gradkowski, The best player was bad. And then there, you know the trade. It was Zach Miller. It was a bunch of journey many favors, so I know what's different now. But it just You know, your foe in long will always talk about execution and coaching. And it just goes to show that you know if they could be. Obviously they gotta prove that life too. But I just sort of give a little light at the end of the tunnel. Are you know all the doom and gloom out there right now, you know, And the one thing is to Scott and the thing I agree with you is the coach is the head coach, the offensive line coach, the offensive coordinator. All that stuff. They've got to take what they have and trying to make something of it. And we haven't seen any of that. We haven't seen any good things happen from any of the guys they have. We understand they're not The guys they had hoped they'd have, but you've got to make something work. Exactly. I mean, just the receivers on this team were Louis Murphy. And there is a weird day. So you know it. And you talk about almost double. Yeah, I know. I know. They've got a tweet the line, but I just wanted to give that example out there. Because, you know, I know, I know in my heart that in the sky Look, we know the Bears have better offensive guys. What I just read off there. So, uh, I know we can turn it around. I think that's your offense is gonna get better somehow got always appreciated already waiting till next year state the whole here in Chicago. We're used to that are used to that Wait till next year. 312332377 middle of the season. I mean, is it too early to say to wait till next year? Well, because they've lost three in a row. I mean, you know what I understand why I understand why the TV It's just a shame that we're here already. It's even remember that they were five and one. It is very hard, and he just keeps getting worse. That's the frustration start. Not so good and building get better. You're reversing. Yeah. You know what, Eric? Could you put up another poll question Really quick. I don't want you know, we've only got less than an hour for the show before Chicago's college tailgate. The one poll question we had up there you can go at go to Twitter at ESPN 1000 is how much will changing play callers matter a lot. Some are none. The other one is the next three games for the Bears were against division opponents. They play Minnesota. They play Green Bay, and then they play Detroit. What will the record be in those three games three, and 02 and 11 and two Went into wanted to say it was perfect. We have four absences. We run all four options out there..

"The greatest quarterback in the nfl prospects. History of the nfl did in the same exact offense last year. Not good and you just throw cam newton without a training camp without. Ota's without anything into it man. No i agree. But you bring a lot of factors. And i mean arguably i'd say the offense is a little different because you got cam newton. He can do a lot more than two legs around. Yes that is true but again like those factors. They didn't have they didn't have training camp. They kind of just do them all together. Right for a month of practice and then said go out there and look good. They were like two and one to start to see. They can't yes and then he was out for a little bit. Now he's on a fall and he kinda. He fumbled the game to begin with. But i mean also didn't the patriots have like five or six guys on their defense alone opt out because of covid reasons they had. I think it was eight. So you're coming ours so like yes. The patriots last year head. The number one defense date. They they're having four turnovers there. I like four games. Your shit they look like the bears. Eddie jackson returning pixel like stefan gilmore. Like all those guys on their defense or making tons of place and now they're missing six of those guys. So i mean yeah you're right like all the circumstances around him aren't the best. I will agree. They lost arguably the two leaders on defense to they lost hightower. And then patrick. Chung represent were conducts. Dude are you talking about your strong safety middle linebacker position. Yeah those are pretty important. They're lucky to keep gilmore but down. Yeah it's one of the patriots two and got to win. at least two games. Loman might be played. Two games against the patriots patriots. Got lose these two. Yeah do tank for champion. Finish the same record frigging two and fourteen then the patriots get the number one pick because they lost to the jets bowl towns. I go to figure it all out. Interesting both teams are going to kneel. They're both going for drivers. We're gonna pull waterboy and just keep kneeling and just be zero zero until someone decides often. It's going semi pro or he's also his own team's shots we want. Trevor that's great all right. We're moving to the bears and the biggest story out of that game. Javon wims kohl-kok insulting middle field. Stop it. it was messed up. However the senate he was backing up anthony miller that db was being justify keeping i will these were just very annoying to in pg terms. I could use different terms. They were being very annoying. Which is typical stereotypical of a db But like that guy. They showed the play before he like poked in the face and then snatched his mouth. Guard was in miller's face the entire game so was kind of just got sick of it and came up. Snatches chain weapon just and then like backed up. He's like right. You're not gonna fight back. And then abroa- still ensued. I understand sticking up for your teammates by me. Now he's suspended two games. The bears head coach is like yeah toussaint how we roll like that was. That was not cool. I mean let you play do the talking between the whistle. Six block him just watching a game those. Dvd's were so annoying. They would make a tackle twenty yards..

"I'll take the day off. But when our loss will tie we won't be here. Danny ready for that? Were they Thailand that coming in all right yesterday. Your co who played with 10 years in the National Football League and knows all about defense, said he does not see a defense playing for each other. The problem with the Bears is they've got opportunities to make plays, and then they're not making they don't make them. That's Mac's got the ball right in his hands. He decides to drop him. It's like a bunch of individuals trying to make place. But nobody kind of employees. The team concept anymore that when I do my job, it's going to be good for the betterment of the team. 24 who's he's crying, Mr. But your screen if you're going to try to play the damn game with your back to the quarterback and not see the football think you can defend You're in the wrong sport. You should be dry aging me doing something else feeling I was going to say he should go dry anything but playing in the NFL. You shouldn't be in the NFL. That's the way you're going to defend. You can't play corner. That's what I or slot corner 56 defensive back. If your back's gonna be to the quarterback, and you're guessing where the football it's you've got to see the football to be able to play the football that head and that I have both. You've got to be able to do both. You got to see the man and see the ball. See the man the ball. Kwan was good yesterday. I think Roque wanted times was good Rock Wanted times got swallowed up. You know who's looked slow is damage survey Ethan. I've got their regret as his best game of the season passing of a thon. Looking slow. They were threatened that with each passing decent yesterday, 2018. It looked like they played together as a team in there. Played for each other looks to me now that everybody's kind of playing for themselves. You know, I like that. It was our cross talk that we had with the guys right out of your coat, and I thought you made some very valid points. Want to pull that and kind of isolate that because we trust his eyes? He was on the field, so we trust your co's eyes. Playing individually instead of a team. Even the lovey Smith teams played together because they had one common goal. Get the football right. You could either uniform get the football. As much as we love Mac and Hicks and what the rest of these guys defensively can bring. Its true Yuriko makes a great point. Where is the unit working together? Like the secondary seems like it's a whole different team right with the kid Johnson and Cal Fuller, but working together as a team, where is that with this Bears team defensively, But if they had gotten of Eddie Jackson had gotten the pick six rather than the Pass interference, or if Khalil has picked off the pass through those two plays in and of themselves, all of a sudden get you to go there playing for each other. All year, though it didn't seem like they've been playing together. Individual plays. I think that he makes a good point. Think about past bears defense is that you really enjoyed Is this defense on top of your list? No, I think that's his point is, there's a good you're very good, but there's something Not quite all the fact there isn't there. It was in 2018 before Pagano got here. They were together. I thought And in the last couple years I don't see that I don't eat doesn't mean that they're bad. I'm not bashing them. I'll make sure it's clear. I'm not saying that they're ineffective and they're no good. And which I'm not saying that. But playing together as a defense really stands out. It pops on the television when you watch it when you watch it all 22 you could see for that team works together in concert together defensively. And I don't see that you and I spent so much time talking about what Matt can do and what Matt can't do. We're talking about individual player instead of the bears deep and everyone that you talked to up there says how good the culture is. I agree, so I don't think it's the culture. No, it's just It's ineffectiveness thing. It's not you and I said, Whoa, Look how they get to the quarterback. Whoa. Look, I'll do you make your splash place. It's not that Eddie Goldman has any regrets, opting. I'm just curious. Not questioning him for doing it. He has to do what he has to do. Just curious if he Looks at it questions it all. And I want to make sure it's on record. And I believe you're with me on this. I'm not knocking the Bears defense. Same here. I'm just saying that Where is that? Um, for is that production Next step, the numbers that you gave, obviously, or fax. But where's the tangible proof? The evidence? I guess where those SportsCenter plays defensively. Correct. Now what we need to see tonight. I want to see Tom Brady get lit up. I want to see a pick. Force fumble off Ronald Jones. Those air things we needed now, Lance and will probably show you something different tonight when you work with them tonight, and they will point out certain things that they see in real time, but it still comes down on those big plays. Difference. Making plays flash those game changing plays. Captain should.

"Gets rid of it grows to his left a jump ball and it's caught at the 45 yard line. T y Elton went to get it and brought it down in front of Eddie Jackson. There was a flag down on the play. It's back near midfield, where this ball by Hilton was caught up on the left sideline. A great catch by Hilton on basically 50 50 ball from Rivers. Yeah, that was a great play by T Y Hilton. He's not, you know, for a guy his size he's not known for. Going up and getting bald, But he went up and got there against Eddie Jackson gets a good defender. Did a nickel job. Obviously, I think defense number 39 that penalty is accused of playing is a first down. So even with the pass interference, Jackson couldn't stop Hilton. It's gain of 12 and it will be first down for the Colts on their own 46 as they move left to right 8 35 left second quarter. The Colts ahead of the Bears, 73 Rivers under center. He's got Taylor alone set back behind him. Two receivers stacked in the slot left one of them in motion. Now Pascal to the rights after Rivers had off Taylor left side he has jumped on by road, Kwan Smith. Smith grabs him back. 45 man lost a yard of Ethan was there too, And it will be second down about 11. Now there was nothing there against talked about who would win the battle with these two with good offensive line in this front by the Bears. They're sprint through and it was a nice job of just making flatline. We're nowhere. No space to run. Second down, and 11 Indianapolis. Their own 45 3 receivers on the right running back is that the left hip quarterback rivers who gets the staff hands it off. It's Taylor, shaking to his left, gets across midfield down to the 43 of the Bears before he has brought down at the number. Otr tits. Therefore, Jonathan Taylor against 12. "You're our guy. We love you. We've got another guy here is well, you get yourself healthy and lets 12 punch him. Right up the gut. I take Leonard for net, trying to prove himself all day every day. Certainly it's worth exploring. There's no question about it. There's no question that you that you go out. You figure out what what this could look like. And when you have a guy with that level of talent, you to figure out if it works. I'm just telling you as I always do. Don't don't don't lose sleep the rest of the week. If it doesn't. It doesn't happen for you Just okay, so well, I'll follow up with this. You can tell me about the cornerstones of offensive bulls Introduce Ki can really rely on this season. Yeah, So let's start here. Alan Robinson, who hasn't practiced in a week and a half with an ankle injury. Now, I think he's trending in the right direction and should be hopefully on the practice field this week, and certainly Time to get ready to get into the weak one preparations. Beyond that, you're taking a leap of faith Jonathan on Jimmy Graham being a legitimate playmaker in this offense, which look nobody is under the delusion that it's going to be 2015 Jimmy Graham were all In agreement there you're talking about Montgomery at full strength would be a guy that you would consider a building Blackness office and then you need Ah, Breakthrough from a Anthony Miller, right? You need that guy, a second round pick from a couple of years ago to become a legitimate number two receiver who is capable of The 120 yards. One touchdown performances like we've seen it time and he has to eat meat be a factor in every single game you play, and last year it was some weeks. He was really, really good and a lot of weak he was non existent, and so they need to find answers on offense. And and that's that's up to everyone in the coaching staff to identify who those guys are and to turnem loose in ways that maximize their strength. So you mentioned that when we play the little clip of Matt saying, we're not gonna name a quarterback, And yet we all believe in today's times publically that we're going to find that out. Whether it's you or somebody is going to go well, guess who's taken on the first team Reps. Blah, blah, blah. Is this indicative that These two guys don't look very good, and we're in big trouble. I don't want to say big trouble yet, but certainly I think you've heard the reports consistently from just about everybody. That's been out there with eyes on these practices over the last two weeks that neither guy has been Impressive. They're they're certain signs. Where you say OK, that looks pretty good. And then they're stretches worth my God. This is so mediocre. It's hard to fathom its hard to stomach. I thought last Wednesday, Nicole had had his best practice and the best practices either of these guys, you thought, OK, Here's a breakthrough. Well, then, the following day, they end up canceling practice. They've got an off day on Friday. Get over it Soldier Field on Saturday, and he looked altogether average again so that there is some worry that I would say this CAF about Saturday's scrimmage. I was a little disappointed at the format of it, and I got the sense for multiples and travesty that they were as well because Every play of that scrimmage with scripted So, for example, the second play of the day if he had a play action dark O'Reilly really right. And it goes for about 21 yards you say OK, let's see. We're Mitch can take this drive. Well, the script wass. The next play was going to be third and three back in the 33. Instead of first intend momentum on the drive all day long every time a quarterback hit a big pass. It didn't matter what that game was. They were just going by the predetermined script, and Stravinsky said afterwards. It was weird. You know, you can't as a quarterback, you can't get In the flow of the drive. You can generate that momentum. You can't generate that sort of positive vibe in the huddle that, okay, We've got things clicking right now. You're just moving on to whatever predetermined situation that the coaching staff wanted you to run with. And I'm not sure you know the coach, he believes is best for their evaluation process to do that. I'm not sure it was best for both quarterbacks to be to be in that format on Saturday. And what are your thoughts on the secondary for the Bears? I would just imagine that Jillian Johnson would be pressing. The service says getting the lion's share of the time. They're at one of those corner spots. What your thoughts in the secondary so far in camp. The edge of the number one Kyle Fuller has had is impressive of the camp. Is anyone out there? And what looks to be playing at that Pro bowl level again? Eddie Jackson Still Eddie Jackson, I think Deon Bush is gonna wind up is your second starter at safety. In a week and a half, two weeks here And then when you talk about that other cornerback tradition, the question with Jalen Johnson is just how quickly does the coaching staff feel He can be trusted to be 100% and if already and we've talked about before It's a steep climb when you miss rookie mini calf and okay and mini camp, and there's three weeks shaved off in your normal training camp preparation for a rookie to get used to all of the things he's got to get used to the call the speed of the game. What you have to do playing off of his teammates, and so there is a little bit of a learning curve there for Jalen Jobson. For me, it's just a matter of when, not if he becomes a starter, and I think it might be A little while yet before he is and every week starter now he's going to be in that mix. Eventually he's up to speed in a suit is Chuck O'Donnell and the rest of the defense staff. Yet we can trust him not to leave this football games as a rookie, he'll be in there. But in the short term, I think you probably see some of Buster screen playing outside in their base defense and then bumping inside a nickel and probably Kevin Tyler playing outside and you just hope that The rest of the playmakers on defense. Kinda allow you to make up for any perceived shortcomings you have there. Not that either. One of those guys is a weakness on the defense. But I'll tell you that the defense of the hole looks really, really good. At this point. They need Akeem Hicks back, obviously. But what if he comes back at full strength You're looking at Ah, unit that can that can dream. The biggest dreams. All right Before we let you go. I know this.

Jimmy Graham Eddie Jackson Leonard Jalen Jobson Jalen Johnson Akeem Hicks Alan Robinson Jillian Johnson Matt Nicole Bears Stravinsky O'Reilly Kyle Fuller Chuck O'Donnell Anthony Miller football Kevin Tyler Jonathan

"Think the scheme s for different job descriptions, which is why we can't lump them all together. And I would I would just challenge and push back on that and you gave me a heads up on the troy. Pall Mall thing so I looked up troy's numbers troy picked off five second year in the League Jamal's two picks and three years Troy Mall had years when he picked off seven balls. Couple years. We picked off seven balls. I don't have any track record or a history of him getting hands on the football in that regard whether you played in the post or whether you're playing down low to me I. Just look in the draft every year and I can. Can find a lot more guys that can play closer to the line of scrimmage than I can find. guys can play in the post to me. Guys complained. The Post are more rare, and that to me is why those guys are going to get more money for my money. Jamal is a he is a disruptor down there. Eddie Jackson plays in post and gives me the football back and to me I'd rather have a guy that gives me. The football back can find somebody that can scheme up and get on a running back when I went and watched all his sex. Couple of clean, but the majority of them are him. Just beat running backs I like my opportunity to try and find somebody I can scheme up with my defense to get him one on one with the running back. I, like my chances of trying to find somebody to fill that role versus find somebody that can range over the top of the field, a bunch of plays on the ball. See because we've been around each other so much a new that you would come a receipt. Facts and so because. I made sure that took my time last night on came back with numbers, and so trump followed through his first years in the league. He had two hundred thirty seven tackles seven sections three four fumbles two fumble recoveries ENCYC- sex Jamal Ams through that same time span to seventy three tackles twelve sacks, six force fumbles four fumble recoveries at two interceptions. So when we look at the takeaway standpoint. They're pretty close this. Oh! Oh, that's twelve turnovers twelve turnovers, and so it's just a matter of how you you like your turnovers to me. It doesn't matter I. Think the value is his ability. Be Dynamic in the box particularly in a defense that requires a dynamic box offender last year. The Seattle seahawks cannot play nickel defense because they didn't have the personnel to be able to do it. You see each and every week with Dermot, James. James derwin James Ability to be a chameleon safety linebacker. Whatever you need Seattle needed that part of it so with Bobby Wagner in aging cagey right. You need Jamal Adams to almost be a hybrid linebacker when they go nickle package, his value in is being the Swiss army knife around the line of scrimmage. They needed a more explosive defender. Need a lot of scrimmage instead of the Earl Thomas type that is playing. Playing in the back in as you said that person you need, you need someone that can take it away..

"Got a class. You know, you really are going to take Eddie Jackson over Tyrone. Matthew. Did I get that correctly? Ah, I mean, they're both right there. One Stone six on one's number eight. Matthew is markedly better that ejected right now Eddie Jackson, a little younger, he's got but pilot Matthew for all the Chiefs and everything. Defense is not good. Not good at the beginning of the year. Turn it around. Leader forced turnovers and you keep harping on a couple of steps and I get those there. Fantastic. Why It's not. There's more to it than just that, And I was I wanted to call earlier before because you kind of get hung up on these leads about wherever the person you like. Is it somehow being disrespectful to where they are as opposed to like Kristen? Danny always say, Well, who would you take out in order to put them there? We'll let me read you what the experts said about Tyron Matthew. Okay, He's a beast and FC exact said. Now, if you have him on your team, you have to make sure he fits in your scheme, and he's doing a lot of his work at the line of scrimmage. You can't knock him like some other players like that, because he makes plays. He makes people around him better. But some evaluators in the NFL believe Matthew is not elite elite in deep coverage and his on Lee best served at the line one NFC execs that he is never considered Matthew An upper echelon player for that very reason. That's fine. But that one executive, don't you just put on the tape and look at it? I mean, I think the guy had more pics and ejected if I'm not mistaken and two Our Matthew make the people around him better where you could almost argue that people in front of that eject and make him better But back to the kind of list of everything I wanted to kind of. Just relax a little bit when you give them out where more of your cut right for that Because you put a guy five being assistant stepfather him. No, it's because those four guys Or just about them, But see the one thing that I see in Tyrone Matthew and I appreciate your calling your sport. Okay. Appreciate you. Tyron. Matthew is like a hybrid linebackers. He had better tackler than any Jackson no doubt about it. No doubt about it. Can he cover as a free safety like Eddie does? I'm not convinced he can. And that's why there are some execs that don't believe he's an upper echelon safety that he's more of a hybrid. Top player as a linebacker. One NFL coordinator, said he may not be appear safety, but he's a top player at what he does. He's a hybrid linebacker versus a safety zone work middle third deep half as long as he's next to the action. So He's a good football player. Don't get me wrong. I'm curious to see if if Akeem Hicks is healthy and their edge, guys stay healthy, and they have good health on that defense, and he's back at free. I want to see how he does this year. Now he doesn't have a good year. Fire away. We have every reason to have that discussion, so we'll see. 3123323776 will get two more of your calls, And this is we talk some football. "Now. He got it wrong. There's no doubt about it. Patrick, the home's going to the Hall of Fame. Patrick Mahomes is this amazing talent and he's going on every dollar on that contract. God, Blessem. All I'm telling you is a hell of a football player, man, and we had him on the show. Remember how much we like this personality we loved? My only point is the part of the sentence no matter what means, no matter what And you never assume that we ever had the stones to go get a quarterback. We just got the wrong one. But you can't preach no matter what Which means, no matter what your right and then pat yourself on the back for it five years later for being wrong and flipping on it. Not gonna let you get away with that one. You know, in this segment, I thought we were going to do a retake your take cap, but I didn't. I didn't think it was going to go down the Jamal Adams. No matter what angle I thought it was going to be. Do you remember, like, two weeks ago? Maybe three weeks ago Now you were on the show. Yelling that a a random they never go. No, you're yelling that a random CBS graphic that they tweeted out had Eddie Jackson not listed in the top 10. Do you remember this? I remember there was something that was good. Yeah, You were like full throated. You're angry Like how dare they? And do you remember what I said to you guys? When I I kind of Question. Why you were so angry about it. Do you remember? I remember you saying to me who cares what CBS says. Well, well, that was won. And then I said, Let's list off different safeties, and we kind of ran through a few, and we got to like 89 and 10 and 11 were like Ah, Eddie Jackson probably is around that. Drinking right? Like he's around the top 10. So for a random tweet to just leave him off the top time while he may be he's 11. Maybe he's 12. He's around that ballpark. Do you have a retake on your take on how outraged you were when you saw that that he was left out of the top 10. But now ESPN has him at eight. Well, First of all, I think he's better than eight. Do I think he's a hell of a football player, and he was on a team two years ago. That was 12 and four with this amazing defense, so everyone went all right. I'm cool with Eddie Jackson being up there and then because we got such bad offensive play that the defense played like 98% of the place. On the field each week. They were exhausted. Plus, he was playing out of position. He slides down the list a little bit when you still look at him, and you see his completion percentage a lot. His nearest offender is best not last year over three years and the fewest yards per target. In the NFL. Any Jackson number one for three years. He's higher than number eight. I'm just telling you, so shouldn't you apply that same outrage you had for that? Random, CBS. Ah, Picture that didn't leave that didn't have them in the top 10. If he's eight, and you think that he's 12 or three, Shouldn't you be full throated right now angry that they left him that low. Yeah. I guess I don't have the energy to be full throated again. I'm just telling you, Okay, He's in the top 10 here. He should be higher than number eight. You just should. In my opinion, he should be higher than number eight. Now there's some really, really good players here. There really are. Tyron Matthew is a beast. That guy's a really, really good player, Derwin James of the Chargers. Another good player, make a Fitzpatrick is good. Obviously, Jamal Adams is sensational. And Harrison Smith, you could put all those guys with Andy Jackson in a hat pulled one out. Go. I got a hell of a player here either way. So I get your point. But at least he was listed in the top 10. I thought it was a gross oversight by CBS, but that one was done by a writer. This one's done with Players, coaches and executives all getting the vote so little different for me. Just a little different. A videogame has one young All star in a big sport. Picked off. "eddie jackson" Discussed on ESPN Chicago 1000 - WMVP

"After the Vikings game to me that if he could he play with Eddie Jackson the rest of his career that's where he wants to be he feels like he plays bass alongside him they have good communication he's made him a better football player which I would agree with wouldn't you how Clinton explain excellent this event right you get a good year and I think any help them with that so now with that that deal being announced it'll be interesting to see what they do with ha ha I think they might keep them we'll see I don't know we'll see all right let's go to our guy perfect timing Jeffrey Auburn Dickerson puts the ball on this bear season JD good morning happy new year how are you good morning to both of you happy new year I would say that they will not heed Clinton yeah just because of the economic guys I mean look right now after secondary Kyle fuller will likely be back next year and even make a lot of money not any Jackson is making a lot of money we can talk more about hidden fees and in a little bit and put that in perspective I don't know if they're going to go for with prince Amukamara he was making some good money last year you got that new deal two years ago you could probably save some money there order with separately speaking it hard to take everyone in the secondary in my understanding not that Clinton dekstop opened up at the Honda here but I kind of felt like he was trying to use this year as a springboard to get a multi year deal from someone down the road there's someone else perhaps but I don't know if I saw nothing from him or the bear thought not from to invest heavily with him at that position we just had to pay any Jacksonville I would be leaning towards no but obviously we think they got a life of their own we don't know what the market is going to be on my guess is that he would like to have you can see but if he's not getting the offers and the bears for whatever reason you want him back in there right perhaps that something that you would have to strongly what do you think of the contract that they just gave any Jackson this morning well I mean I don't think any Jackson had a great year I think any jacket behind me look the guy with the trying not to get hurt so I didn't see the type of player I thought two years ago but I mean you can kind of understand he was just looking to get paid when it became obvious the bears were not going to make the playoffs I think a lot of guys that happens a lot in the NFL they started going through a little bit of protection mode not all the time but there were a lot of plate this year especially in the run game that Eddie Jackson did not aggressively go after or act I think he is a very talented player thank you sure you two years ago that have the ability he had I wouldn't say this was a great year by his standards at all what it was good enough to convince the bear yeah given this type of contract I mean the bears are looking to reward the wrong they've done that consistently I'm not saying that he's not a good safety or you know one of the better safeties in the NFC but I think we would all be in agreement that this year even the take away the fact he did not have the same type of impact he had two years ago that there is that fair to say alright moving on from him again breaking news Eddie Jackson signs big deal with the bears is the highest paid safety in the National Football League now did you hear chase Daniel this morning on goal of killing a I did not know okay I'm gonna play he was in the studio doing the car wash to the S. P. N. this is chase Daniel gold doing all what did you see from it's a travesty this season yeah I I just I see a specially really in the last ten games of the year really starting the Detroit Lions game at home I I just thought there was something that came over in the he just that he played a lot better than he did maybe the first four five or six games of the year now I can't answer why he didn't play up to his state of our but what I can say is that just the gross is there I think you'll you know he's going to into his fourth year and then really the third year with Matt now he's offense it's a tough offense to the master it's a tough office to get down and I tell people all the time you have to play there's no no nothing like experience it off and so the more he plays you know he was banged up a little this year with the shoulder you know all sorts of stuff so we're looking forward to it I know he is just chomping at the bit to get back to work and you know he's looking for to there you go so your thoughts on chase talking about Mitchell Tribbett ski and you don't see a scenario where traces back here do you I would find that hard to believe that the bears are actually going to take an honest and sober look at their roster but obviously cat I don't know I mean you know Ryan pace said that they're going to really be honest and then two minutes later either or thing mentioned endorsing water Lloyd an indoor king Adam street means so I mean I don't really I take a look at this thing I don't think I think honesty has its limits especially when it comes to that hi graphics I think that's just not in Chicago but across the NFL so I'm not really buying the whole looking over this thing with real honesty yeah I think you know the real role I think you'd like to keep playing I don't think it'd be here I think they have to bring in some one that they truly feel like if this happens again next year they can turn to and they have a chance to be in it insisting that the backup win but Capt sake it's not easy but the heightened got lucky I got lucky with right hand held the bears would have to get lucky and given their locks selecting quarterbacks it's probably unlikely that after it but this is just where they're at right now and I just don't feel that shade is any sort of correct the the overtake her busy and I think the bears showed you their true feelings about him when mixed with playing and one black and game by any means that he had played a little better park with again quality competition I don't really put much stock into what I heard there but I mean he's doing what you need yeah I know the pro you gotta support your teammate you gotta pay those things I think it was great he sounded great glad he was there when the show and everything but yeah I don't I don't put much stock into that I don't think there's a lot of validity there I think you can play well against the bottom feeders I think it's a lot different to play well against the good defenses on that now have you talked about Mitch mastering coverages next year in year four which is quite late for a quarterback to map for coverages you mean that when they play against the really good teams because both teams more kind of been not just use the heck out of your busy during his career RGD we're gonna play you one more bite from this morning and chase Danny Ainge angle coming out and then I want to ask you a question about this bites a take a list right this is on what changed with play calling midway through the season really the the main thing if you look at it is the aggressiveness of the play calling Matt sort of got on the same page with Mitch and started trusting a more what it what it mate whatever it is our office of lines were blocked a little better and you started seeing some some balls go down the field now is that where we want to be absolutely not I think were like the second to last in the league in total offense second loss leading in points that's that's really not a indie read Matt Nagy Doug Peterson type offense so I I think there was an ownership really the last eight weeks of the season of mission the offense I I just I felt like it the relationship between Matt Matt's got a lot stronger as the season went on they started spending way more time together in in really if any level the relationship between the play caller the quarterback is is probably the most important okay so what we discussed earlier today Jay Dee was the fact that she's Daniel said that Matt Nagy Mr basically started spending more time together during the later part of the season during the second half the last eight weeks and that seemed to help make Stravinsky first of all do you think that that is a problem that it took so long for them to spend more time together and why do you think that was helpful well I I think that I I don't think that they put it this way I I feel like the head coach yeah I don't think there was a trust factor there early and I think he got a little better at the one on but this is my honest opinion guide and I you know obviously could be wrong here but I feel that it it certainly could be a valid dot explanation here I just feel like I think we talked about this before share maybe you as well that I don't think Matt now do you have to lower it's standards and that's going to sound strange right but you don't you don't go from Alex Smith the mystery busy and expect the same sort of mastery of this off it doesn't happen like I'm sorry you can you can make all the excuses you want but you don't even feel like Alex Smith any probably never will so I think it's it's hard to come to that realization that this is what you have in this is what you have to work with and now it's time to coach the try to figure out a way to make this happen I don't think that now do you want me to run and well I am the game because if this guy is truly your franchise quarterback he's going to get hurt he'd been hurt her twice they'll get hurt again next year the run after run because it just is what it is at this point now it's about survival mode now what about getting this thing back on track back in the playoffs next year and everyone saving their job so I think what Naji did something from time to probably in my opinion it is just my opinion it probably took him some time to come to the realization that I have to do things differently I can expect this guy and to be a pocket passer that I'd like him to be in this office and now when you see the pocket move more you know some more design runs things happen a little differently but you know guys remember you can't move the pocket every play you can't run the quarterback every play well that's full of gold your do so much you can't run the hurry up every possession so you can do things to trick it up when you have a quarterback that is just kind of okay and that's what they're doing and it'll have to do next year but that's not the ideal circumstances that they were looking for this year with the offense but that's where they are and I think that sort of flexibility in that change is a by product of of kind of what you saw it bars slightly improved play when the sea then but let's not kid ourselves I didn't go out and we can run the table here at the end of the year to make way off you want it and at the quarterback of the month you put a little better multi get bad teams but it was better versus what happened earlier in the year that's good enough if that's your standard good luck but the team will not be back in the playoffs next year to be quite the same exact way JT with that being said I think a lot of the criticism after that press conference was the lack of transparency from Ryan pace okay but one area where I do feel like that now he's been transparent is the areas that makes needs to improve reading defenses his foot work and has this isn't it should yes station making those are three things he's very poignant about that he needs to get better can he improve in all three of those areas where he can be more of an elite quarterback in this league he had to say I don't know I mean I don't know and he had to and I thought I had on that day he was incredibly spot on with the stuff he said I mean he was telling the truth I mean you know these are these are his limitations these arses struggle it's not like he's not a great athlete you look great athletes you can make something happen he's got a pretty good on but he just isn't doing a lot of the the basic things you need your order back to do it I'm not the only one saying.

Which college produces the best NFL talent?

"A special edition of N._F._l.. Live on deck today at the N._F._l.. Celebrates one hundred season just six weeks away however we are just five weeks away in college. Football Opens It one hundred fiftieth the anniversary so today welcome N._F._l.. You were combining the two worlds to answer age-old question what college produces the best n._F._l.. Talent however I'm Wendy net sand Hutus here you know what's better to be on this panel our expert notice icy expert telling me when Lewis Minute of her panter on the list not on the House for back the quarterback guru he and his brother in a lot of N._F._l.. Games James A lot and Ryan Clark. You see the L. L._S._U.. They are ills college football. L. Is Jonathan Vilma bike. He will join US shortly. He happened to win a National Championship and Oh by the way a super bowl as well coming up on N._F._l.. Live will break down position by position which college produces the best quarterback Oklahoma has the number one overall pick the last two years we have the top ten plays all the N._F._l.. Superstars when they were in college and answering big question which school produces the best all time N._F._l.. Talent we had to ask the players themselves to kick things off. We're the first pick quarterback Oklahoma Viva say Oklahoma Alabama Clemson because proven it is one atop factory the Ohio state highest in Alabama. 'cause I never lost beat out. You really can't understand it into your inside. Sadness programming is all about the you for N._F._l.. Because of Georgia in every aspect but I think L._S._U.. CRESA environment of gray competition and guys is trying to feed off of IT University of Pittsburgh. You Got Dorset. Dan Marina you got Larry. Fitzgerald was not a me show. It's about having everybody involved in working for the Sandal clumps in would cushman he's been doing. He's making people believe everything is possible for House is the best our stop it. Stop stuff well. Let's start shall we with the most players from each college currently in the N._F._l.. Alabama leads the way with V with sixty five players players followed by Ohio state in second place with fifty eight so we're going to debate these schools I in terms of who is best at producing N._F._l.. Challenge here's a tale of the tape on Alabama at Ohio state success since the two thousand draft folks tools I have had thirty one first round picks the most of any school while the Buckeyes have thirteen more total picks in the last twenty drafts but Bama's players have been slightly more successful in the league producing three more pro bowlers than Ohio St Louis Rick. Let's start with with the crimson tide. They're starting eleven if you will offense and defense current N._F._l.. Talent there's any question that these are both very impressive lineups that if Alabama can roll these teams out there right now now. I think they'd win a few games without a doubt. If you look at the offense aside outside of the ball the first thing that jumps out of these starting eleven are the two wide receivers look Julio. Jones is one of the finest athletes in the N._F._l.. For guardless of position he's in the news right now because he's about to get a new contract extension and he's really one of the he's one of the transcendent players at the position that this game the scene Amari Cooper the same way. When Amari came out of college? I remember doing his tape in thinking point honestly as far as catching one pet and run wide receiver. I hadn't seen one as good as him as him. In a long long time on the defensive side look they have fine players throughout the eleven here really that when you get to the secondary and you guys like Eddie Jackson Landon Collins I mean these guys are disband tastic players on the front dont`a hightower our multiple time superbowl winner. These are great great players right here. Make our way to Columbus shower of the to Ohio state you go to the offense side of the football. Look the first thing that jumps out without a doubt as Ezekiel Elliott because if he's not the best running back in the N._F._l.. He would be considered a top three running back in the N._F._l.. Wide Receiver Michael Thomas Really someone who was unheralded coming out of college. He's a tremendous tremendous. Pro will probably be the highest paid wide receiver in the N._F._l.. In short time then move over to the defensive side of the ball this this is where really this football team really kind of jumps off the board starting up Front Joey Bosa Cam Hayward those are two of the best defense alignment in the N._F._l.. Right now and then when you look down there at the Secondary Malcolm Dyson Dinkins Denzel Ward Marshon Lattimore doesn't let's get much better than that. All right Jonathan Vilma made his way again surly qualified to weigh in on this discussion. Look I mean there's a shortage of talent with either of these squads. It's almost ridiculous factory and a lot of ways both of these institutions but let the debate again a Ryan Clark. You can't pick L._S._U.. Just yet but when you look at this group what stands out L._S._U.'s better than both of these things we're gonNA get to that. We're supposed to be talking outlets. Let's be honest. There's amazing players. Neither one of them have a quarterback right before proven yet though little I mean why don't we always have to see something first before we can get you well Ray Richardson running back right you saw God compare that with you why time gentlemen we're GonNa play Nice Got Ninety minutes ago. You're the Glenn Difference from every other position that we're looking at okay fair enough now back to you Louis. It is a production results oriented industry. Is it not so it is fair to say seeing something. Does one believe they'll be success won't sure but I mean we're we'll see this is kind of like a combination of what they have done in college. What some of these guys have done in the pros in some of it's a little bit of projecting about what they're gonNA continue to do in the pros? That's how I'm going to expand it to that all right so at quarterback quarterback Dwayne Haskins I believe right now. There's no comparison as far as I don't care what A._J.. McCarron did it Alabama cows tape. Those Wayne has close exact Haskins is going to be a fine football player. What's going to happen to him? Really is going to be more predicated on what Washington redskins overall due to him then what he does to himself. I firmly believe that as far as these rousers overall look the wide receiver position Julio Jones Amari Cooper. Julio Jones's the standard if you go and look N._F._l.. For an offices and look in their scouting books books every team has a standard at every position that they put for scouts the suit for as far as whenever when their scouting people polio is going to be on that list for for many many teams he's about as good as it gets so skill positions at Alabama are awesome. The defensive players at Ohio State is what stands out for me as far as their front seven is concerned particularly their defensive line and their secondary Denzel Award Marshon Lattimore. You tell me a team that wouldn't take those two young men right now and startled. Let me ask you a specific question since you spend some time as an analyst watching these players at the collegiate level if you had to choose either of this group Alabama Ohio state who's players really got better or who took a bigger step forward than you anticipated when they got to the N._F._l.. Out To you to dance your last part no neither standout. They're pretty equal because watching these guys watching Jonathan Allen he played okay well Dante. I'll tell you knew who is going to be tremendous player defensive player C._J.. Moseley's same thing and then you go to the other side and you look at Joey Bosa Nick Bosa Darren like Malcolm Jenkins. I play with Malcolm Jenkins in in New Orleans knew he was going to be a study. He's Philistine but what is surprising how fast or House they defense is. I did not realize how fast defensive you think big ten you didn't big Brawley guys not so fast but these guys can move joey. Bosa also can move nick volks in Darren League. We know the Burner Malcolm J. Denzel War March. I mean that is a very very talented athletic fast fast defense. I thought I was going to jump in your rookie. I think that's a great question Wendy about as far as what teams teams have players that have gotten better pros. You look at Ohio state this look at their offense. In particular Michael. Thomas was a good wide receiver to hire Stayton. He's fantastic now. He's GonNa be highest paid wide receiver in the N._F._l.. Andrew Norwell most people wouldn't even know Andrew Norwell well what from Andrew Doorbell he right now just judge Moore Norwell can't open open some N._F._l.. Spectacular and even on the defensive side of the ball. I didn't think Marshon lattimore. I've liked Marshon Lattimore at Ohio state. I didn't love Marcet. He has taken his game to another level as well in the really own Alabama side you know how I feel about Alabama I feel nick and what he does and how he builds his program but really focus on their offense align that was just look okay and think about that question. Wendy Wendy asked how many players have gotten better how many have continued to improve Andre Smith may have his best days at Alabama. Dame's carpenter has really been good pro Brian Kelly the jury still out he could be a he's a good player. He's GonNa play already in Indianapolis D._J.. fluker was he ever ever really that guy that dominant guy no. He hasn't been Cam Robinson. Have you seen story so it's interesting because they're preventing people have been many people who've hit Alabama and said they get the best out of their players at Alabama. Maybe it's good discussion legal where people go by what teams there drafted so we look at Michael Thomas he falls into a place where he needs an accurate passer and he's one of the most accurate passers all the time also about the place you land in ashore and how they develop you ask Josh Rosen he absolutely he knows that all too well. I ten Hasselbeck. The whole point of this is to pick one of our producers here a little bit we talked. I'm going Alabama mainly change quarterbacks. Yeah I think looks great point about the offensive line at Alabama because so many of them when you look at them just in terms of body type you're like Oh my God look at those guys body type wise but like I don't know that some of those guys have come in and be like Oh and they got a whole lot better. We're obviously splitting hairs here on this ongoing Alabama Lewis Sorry Nick. Oh from a hustle change your mind or did you stick the way said one because I don't care if between Haskins hasn't played. I think he's I think he's in the saints. Stratosphere is A._J.. McCarron so I like that I liked it their offense of line one of the things that talked about how they develop those guys on the defense aside but they're fun four plus their secondary this going with them Ryan Clark you have to pick one while I was brought here for one reason in one reason only when the Knicks because everyone knew it my answers it would be and what Tim Hasselbeck has proven is. You don't need a quarterback. That's really he's GonNa be Ohio state in Alabama that don't have quarterbacks guess what we don't need a quarterback back and by the way you don't want our first off was good enough for Bill Belichick your boy to draft him as Tom Brady's heir-apparent draft. We thought they they went to L._S._U.. Because this guy has what they decided to we throwing the ball all around the field Andrew Whitworth he's played a thousand years. There's a Guy Jerry go look at the Neil hundred may has like negative two percent body fat Michael Broncos out. There aren't key. We gotta wait on them but it's are are you at the back of position. That's all we got mad. I gotTa get here all even have to work conviction when you spoke scissors. I'm sorry I just so tim. I love your twenty. Two question your toughness Whoa West I've seen because as you know what fair enough he's at Alabama alum landon dare you wait into the circus that we've created. But what do you have to say about this. Whole debate ain't Ryan got some good good good stuff going on say? I wouldn't question his toughness at all. I don't know why you questioned Ryan toughness. I saw him not got a lot of Alabama's always number one no matter Corolla tyrod. Let me ask you a serious question. You know obviously nick. Sabin is a hall of Famer one of the best ever coach this game but specifically what does he do that has allowed such historic success at the university. Steve Alabama <hes> as a coach he speaks for as a coach. He represents his players as players coach. I would say he makes all this coach. All the players are on the him as a player as a father <hes> <hes> and as a as many tried to teach us they'd be a man and a great play all at one time you know so he does it all leading. Can you please tell the people why you are now better that you have trusted your career training with the guy from L._S._U.. Hey right you agreed trying to grow been gone on gone for years

All 12 playoff coaches are tied to Bill Walsh or Parcells

"The head coaches in the playoffs that season come from the coaching. Trees of other Bill Walsh for Bill Parcells Abella check. Anthony Lynn, Sean Payton. All coached under Parcells Jason Garrett and Bill O'Brien are further down the Parcells coaching tape. But they all come from the Bill Parcells coaching tree. And that means the other seven come from the Bill Walsh coaching tree. Andy Reid coached under Mike Holmgren was Walsh disciple. Four others come directly from Andy. That's John Harbaugh. Matt Nagy Doug Peterson and Frank Reich. So as we prepare to watch these games this weekend and throughout these playoffs. There is still the influence of those two legendary preeminent coaches of the eighties. If you will in Walsh and parcels what what thoughts Trump to your mind? When you see that? Look, I know that Bill walls is someone who is highly highly respected by guys like parcels end by guys like Bill Belichick. He's at the very very top of this whole thing. And they as far as situational football's concern, and as far as really just being able to build an entire football federation. He's set the standard everyone else is trying to follow now. And now is it is pretty cool though to watch kinda how bills people have done how Andy Reed's people were doing. I mean, it's it's really neat. Because really there's only so many things you can do in full. There's only so many formations you can come up with and so many defenses you can run then it just comes down to good play styles. Make fights right and Walsh that the west coast against the smashmouth run the ball in play defense style of ourselves. And if you look at it that still holds true today. Most of the Andy Reid disciples over there. Bill walsh. They're going to get the ball out. Quick. Quick eater intermediate passing game highly rhythmic west coast offense. Then you look at the Bill Parcells disciple disciples, we're going to run the football player action shots down the field and had this big physical defenses that try to beat you up and want to make this game playing the phone booth. You've heard me say this on this show that if the guys that are really good the great coaches right now, and the guys that are going to continue to be one of those eight teams looking for aid coach on finding the guy. Dexter Lawrence Among 3 Clemson Players with Failed Drug Tests for Ostarine

"You have big games for Kirk cousins. And and guys like that. But ultimately the goal for every game is to win the game going out win the game. The bears won the game fourteen two nine some people say not an impressive game. You know, what they want the game in the NFL is not easy to win yesterday half. The teams lost the bears were not one of those teams. They won the game fourteen two nine Seattle went to Levi's stadium last week and played the Niners. Guess what Seattle lost? So you know winning is the ultimate goal. And that's what the bears have been able to do bears defense. Of course is a team is is the biggest part of this team. They got another interception yesterday as daddy to Raith and picked off a pass late in the game. Which was obviously. Big. No they needed to do that. I was really interested to see how they were gonna play without Eddie Jackson and they'll probably play without Eddie Jackson. Again this coming week. I think this coming week without any Jackson. Going up against the Minnesota Vikings team that needs the win to guarantee themselves a playoff spot. This is going to be a test for Dionne Bush at Adrian Amos ammos actually had a really good game. I was looking to some of the numbers earlier and let me see here. He's not running this one. I have I had so much stuff on the game where Adrian ammos actually had a pretty decent game. Would I grab his tackle numbers for the contest? And that was good to see because Adrian, ammos, he was second on the team in tackles. Roquan Smith had nine tackles Adrian animals had eight. So he stepped up his game without Eddie Jackson being their trevathan was seven Khalil Mack had five. You only had one sack that was the roquan Smith when he came wide open. So very very important stuff. How the bears are going to play defensively playing against the Niners without very good receivers. And when the young quarterback is one thing playing defense with Kirk cousins and Adam Phelan and Stefan digs and Kyle Rudolph. That's a whole other story playing in their building. So that's gonna be real interesting to see how the bears are able to play and defend this Minnesota Vikings team three one two three three two three seven seven six. Let's get back to some baseball talk to old town Georgia on ESPN thousand eight George. It looks like betting that they're trying to force. The dodgers handle that extra clearance on the payroll, which is I think, you know. Was the master. And I think a fallback of Pollock would be fantastic. If he stays help you what do you think? Yeah. Stephen Pollock healthy is a huge huge situation. You know, if in fact, you got him you could that actually move guy like Albert, Al more. If you're going to cause I still think they're gonna have to move one of those three guys I've been saying that all off season and it hasn't happened yet. So maybe I'm wrong. But I kind of thought they would move either. Now, Mora Ishwar or a half the more. I look at it. It's not going to be Schwarzer. They love Schwarzer. He's like one of their kids one of their little kids their own kids as well. I think it would be either Hapoel more if they did grab a guy. Like Pollock that'd be a completely different story. But you you think the the Harper situation, you don't think there's any changes coming here. Do you? I really think he's he's kind of an LA kinda dude. If you know what I mean? With the hair. Coast to coast. I mean seems like the perfect fit out there. But why not force the hand if we can and try to call back. He get stronger on our end. George. Appreciate the call. The one thing that I think the cubs have gone forms aproach the season first of all they won ninety five games last year. Okay. It's not like they you know, they had an awful season. They didn't hit in the last month earlier. It didn't hit in down the stretch, and they need to figure out why. And it's so it was so much fun. Watching the ball, very rarely say this.
