"A book. There's a bit to put the hand off of west ham. Because i can't necessarily is thinks it's for sale but the dealing with west ham fans have been pacific that criticism of of the car owners at times less so now the cup stake okay. The pitch hasn't put somebody off. We'll take that challenge all. I think it's all sort of you all and actually if you were private equity wanting to bind to the products of the nfl as opposed to opening percentage of each of seventy two clubs. But if you could improve caravelle cop if you could improve presentational championship wanna make to. Maybe fans those changes for the better. It's it's can. I actually the salsa financial problems for a number of distress can be a good thing. Impossible people talk about me. Yes right come on. It's dwindling appeal because big teams haven't taken seriously enough to the third round that a lot of pregnancy cup put out of the second-string third-string either away as the glamour. Bfa ho spring fau can set a stake in the fa cup to private will win. That might be a major jump in the price stop go some yeah shakeup in in how instruction and presented. It's not my role thinking about those things. But i could conceive. Oh hypothetically an injection of connecting so some of the football product my back fans book say like the answers they have because it means that thompson the fa coupable seriously and by the way i believe in the faa does have never wanted with things the final twice as being very special moments in my time supporting the club get off for parents to once we near cap and as a palestinian just finally so harris blitzer to bone the have you ever noticed. A difference defends notice the difference between the ownership of one in st to another. I like thinking our case by not met harrison blitzer. I don't think we have done other than the transfer thumbs of being made available down. We because a great that the kowloon asleep parish was the guy who made the consoles him out of administration in two thousand ten and as being the chair ever since and harrison blitzer. All leaving partners at all there. He's the active leader. I'll making decisions as an executive chairman. Thanks on behalf of the club and and paneth's fans respect. Because i know the use the he's wanted our offense certain that he cares about the club. Say he very smart and he's just pointing and you investor john textile is another american. And yeah the saints is that he's corralled investors who backing his vision for the club. Now consider ourselves incredibly lucky in that regard in that. We got an enlightened cher who's yet clearly cares passionately about mclovin and isn't going to do anything to sell it heritage but not every club will have the same experience and you all really at the mercy. You've as a fan. You always in the most ship. And what their ambition for their there is and staves as a way to pay tomatoes be and by the way many times on the fan and he's very very supportive of our foundation that i share the cops foundation. Yeah he's he's antenna oil. What adjusted many not wife okay. So you made the decision though then shelton millwall palace fan. I'll be sitting here now. Decision any found. You could be a fan of the ninety two i passionately. Defend me being a fan of that club through good times and bad signs matter. How many times they were Good signs giddy. Believe the blood of the club. You support decade I just happened to. Paris probably have more ups than have that. Have just as good a ride. Because it's about engaging with with when you'll love club is now i'm a big fan of supposing your legacy i haven't had three roughly equidistant wearables to choose from but never quite understood. Somebody tells me they're next wise age fan where they grew up two hundred miles away just because that club up in a year in which they were in an impression young. But that's just a personal. "In get spent on the prox- and on the trucks that increase the athletes had made me giving coporate by ministries will make it scalded on frivolous initiatives and. Actually the over will help. The spol- diminishes sunday. That's what we're seeing in cricket this year which is the private everything the cb's acting as he's i'm private investors in increasing the hundreds screwed over the canada and hauled coal cricket fans very upset that. There's no red bull. Cricket played came. The the test are very important product these ebay and see if you don't give enough ripple cricket opportunities to creek certain coastal season. They went before test matches. And maybe we've seen some of that religion in in the second test this year. And if you let too long so you can easily envisage the private equity lens being what have pro what we invested in. How do we maximize the research. And make it as great as it can be without of you. The whole picture of And possibly dazzled governing body types. Who really excited been having done. The dale in the new product is being crazy. I'm losing sight of their needs to nurture the whole pyramid of the school. And the integrity of in pyramids minus is actually critical announce it ultimately you will get elite and failure because you went have athletic capability or even possibly the the fan base this necessary to sustain a sport and then also what is the appeal of private equity. Why is it become so central to the compensation on the investment side beyond sport is funds in. When did he won't stop you. Think you might want to do. How'd you make it happen in life. You go to the bank in mind sake you. Can you build results from operating profitably keeping holier reserves and then choosing to reinvest it or you sell some action so jumpstart you want to do and so what we're seeing is a jumpstarting of the people's product plans and business plans. It's shortcuts to money for rainy day. Choosing to make the investment. It might take years and there's a feeding the marketplaces scrambling for pro new ideas in competition with other leisure time activities with east bowls with other distractions for young people tied to their screens. You how do we. How do we be relevant in this in this environment. If we wait to long make you a day. Private xy might analysis get going more quickly and yes. We need to sell a bit about. Seoul's do that. They might bring some bryce ideas with might bring some ambition. They might bring some riches than we can use to to buy off discipline to fix all the problems in the school and and again if you look at the debate as being in private equity funds in this case as boots off the county's hasn't it by giving them one point million pounds each and and the council was so strapped for cash. Anyway even more so with the pandemic now actually emitted the over. The walgreens remaining was done before the yet with with two exceptions. They sort of quieting taking that money even though they might be unhappy. They haven't got a franchise playoff grandma that can you say. Initially keyboarding nice wheels. Also the the integrity of the pyramid will be will will suffer and the core all will will suffer then you might just be left with one hundred and then risky could nothing but then again looking at it from the private equity side. Do they sort of categorize. Oh it's a little bit. Like retail is a little bit like entertainment. And how do they frame it. And is that an accurate framing of a surprise when they go below the bonnet that actually. It's not what they thought they would be. I think it would be naive of anybody to think that private equity was naive in going to these deals. I mean what are they engineer to understand about street it's super analytical incredibly thorough. They can't be hold people to work with because they are so spreadsheet conscious and actually know the the value of a deal with private. You have to expect them to be forensic in their approach to everything they do. And there's a good and a bad tonight's it means that not going to be surprised while they find in a school because i do not do these things out to homework. Incredibly and one of the things that have the capability of doing is bringing in the very best minds in the very best people and incentivizing them make something work now. Like i look at it and say provided you structure the bright deal and the ultimate new york physician retain control as the other schools rights having private equity in as a minority investor. Say shake you up to give you a false strike to really tighten your focus to take on the competition that might be on. The sports remind the other leisure time activists. He's could be a good thing. I know depends by spoiled promptly. Prophecy each step back now and say yeah. English football where the premier league is really struggling. The efl has a number of clubs that are in financial distress. God no sense that the nfl talking to private equity about pulsa be setting some sheriff the action of everything the championship down to the two. But bad idea. Is this an incredible products passionate. The support of the fan base is really sticky customers All the way down though seventy two clubs is i mean. It's just amazing and yet you go. Seventy businesses are really challenged financially. Well could could you do. Something may maybe in some of the problem. Maybe it's in the league's maybe it's in the zanu. I'd i wanna answer is but it'd be worth asking a question if you're a football but can they live with the fans and the just the sheer fame that comes with it or infamy that comes with that bit of the. The business don't exist in the limelight very often private equity in big chunks number primarily clubs and it doesn't seem to stop the other private equity firms wanting to do deal. I mean you look at the rivers of.

"You could grind something really quite exciting but it will only work if you can get to the point of which people want to pay to go through the turnstiles and create decent crowds in the grounds the creates a backdrop for television excites. Cb producers because on my memory of letting early on. When i first arrived with the bbc bruyas par catholics time. They'd be crystal with us and there was a block of seats in one of the things. You really anxious because they would sites state no almost to sits at home. I watch live store if the ground is slow. I'll say what is not meaningful because people don't go there even though they're on their backside sitting at harvard getting to the bbc wants full stadium now. The pandemic is slowly breaking some of that but basic principles that applies. You can create a win in this league on a piece of paper you construct the rose but it also you call whatever. The number is going to be depends on stage. Gimme using you get. Thousands of people ultimately being regular attending fans. It ain't going anywhere but the hundred one of the success stories of the you went to the to the hundred alaska what you thought but one of the readouts from the end is being. The women's game played in front of good crowds with good media numbers. Now if i am an england cricketer and my agent. I'd be saying okay. Well happy days because oh those metrics that we've been told for for years and years and years the numbers don't add up they do add up because that's what i'm saying. they do. add up there. You've got people in the crowd watching the crowds of better now. It might you there. The cynical argument is they've manipulated. Those numbers bhai doubleheaders and getting people in early. It's interesting on. I had a very very enjoyable evening. Alternating the whole double head of the southern brace against the invincibles savings. I'd say i'm reading enjoyed by gangs. Three tickets went would see makes. Only one of us was dad for guidance. May much he makes rox up in time for the men's match. And i would say the crowd. Wu's hof is big for the women's maximum mexico. You could say that evening was better than afternoon. Any way say had tested. The second thing i'll say is getting much on ethics. There was one year. In which we spliced together the diamond league able bodied grow cremating and a disability pic- grand prix. And we put them on back to back in birmingham on the stadium and goodly dominating meeting on first and then we had a five minute ten minute break and then we kicked off the pouting session. Wait for memory thing. We had johnny picot running the very first rice of the disability. So we went without superstar fronts key people maybe ten minutes longer between save anyway. It's only was embarrassed and a massive fan of disability spoiled. I worked with the ipc or an athletic now dump for ten years. I love it. The crowd evaporated the minute. Dominic mason ended. I was looking around thinking goodness we promoted the hand out of this. We really wanna give chase. He for faced compassion. Prompts for a passionate crowd and the crowd is victory. Vic- with his site if you put on the hundred and reverse the fixtures and had the men on at three o'clock on a school holiday off the name and then the women's match on well three thirty whenever it's also the women's match tossing at seven. Would you crampy at a health at nine o'clock. I'm not sure acid test. All you said your ticket with a stub that says you had exactly the same seat for ten pounds. Fifteen pounds have to move apart from stretching eximbank virga in how many capable fifty. So it's easy to look at it and say yeah. That was great. Animals cries the. How'd you hold that crowd in formerly the women's game and i think it'll get abe. It doesn't mean that you pay everybody the same right now Because troby known the economic reality of the spoiled this being created and pricing and on the other things to one hundred right from nazi bring seats bloody check blind. Twelve quake had six or seven hours. Fantastic entertainment. i went to test match three days before it. Loads of eight hundred fifty five seven segment some good cricket kabaddi. Say the bowl because cypher. Cypher away in the stand up and it aid but a mile from the action so the hundred was costing made twelfth the price with that test match so they were giving it away and yes they made a profit. They claim all the back of the tv money fantastic but they go to spin that flight every year and we although once novelty waves all the risk that even at giveaway prices that people what show so the will reading knowing normal. Toby summer When charging more realistic prices whether they turning the crowds. And i haven't they. Because i actually worked for me. I'm not just as happy with that. As in t twenty will quickly well presented other leg back to something we were saying earlier about. Presentation will standards. It didn't feel biting ninety s. Although some of the innovations they were obviously well they'll learn from that and i was very very skeptical. It was first announced on march. Nested amount you mentioned private equity and you saying that you think it's a it's a good thing in the right circumstances there's a question is a long term trend or is it just a a feature of cheap money and and whether that's going to sustain is a question but what other trade offs you know how good if it is here. How can you ensure that you get the best from private equity and not the downside and the downside is i would characterize it would be potential short-termism they come in make decisions for short term return and then leave. How can you ensure that doesn't work in my other existence outside of sports one of the things. I chair a private equity firm so something about the industry and the northern criticisms the private equity are. I'm affair then not demonstrably more short-term than other types of investor and it is evidence that they invest in things. Don't just come in slash costs. Segue sports concern. It's not a cost cutting exercise. it's about growing revenue. And so i think the risk is not that we should not one wants to grow in schools. I think it's that you could get a disconnect between the toll penned over event program and the whole of the rest of the pyramid underneath and shorter may no matter very much but in the very long term accidentally does because where is your generation of crickets as coming from can shine in the hub. That might be backed by private equity. They go to come from somewhere. And who's gonna to them and is an assumption that if the rfu was the senate chunk of its products know. They'll recycle the money into the girls bed. Who's going to guarantee the happens. He's gonna accidently. Make sure that helped me. Overall health is improved by the money. That's all say the risk will be money comes in. I'm just talking. Generally.

"Getting a little bit angsty at the end of the world championships in london in and twenty-seven saying home when i felt will athletics. I think i'm still accident. Were making out the only f- it was down for them and it was day. Glory and what a great championships but knew the organizing committee which i chair onto dividend on behalf of anything will was white people but actually the right thing is just to give a speech. Jerem people in a cut his dream that recognizes will. They did go away with their head held high. I look for the next one like mine. I went to dinner a few years ago. One of the head houses head hunters put it on and malting glenn was speaking. It was a few months after the euro. Which is sort of gareth. Southgate sort of breakthrough and identity. Well made the semi's and glenn was talking about how they worked with ourselves and gas health headed dumb deliver that same and never was in the back of the room this insane but i i just thought it was a brilliant speech sufficing. It wasn't about boston glenn. He was just telling us what gareth southgate had dumb. And what are the nation sober Out getting his waistcoat the shine and everybody went out and but waistcoats will s. But he wasn't the malting blanche. I wasn't the faa show other management of the faa down. The us wouldn't have taken that approach. But i came away with massive respect them all sinclair who. I think every writes in his time. They had some problems in. That committee is what will remember but good job and didn't hold the line light and that was admirable and i should remember that lesson myself a few times because i've been gobi on behalf of the sports that i a student You have lobbied behold probably raised a few people in trying to do. I felt was right for the school. He was a quiet elegance in the way he went about his business. Which which which was which was great. And i'm sure he enjoyed being england. What we wanna. Great perk is wrong. But you didn't feel that was he was doing. It wasn't a superfan he was doing is he was trying to do the right thing. By the world's greatest sport which is always going to be challenging in england given levels expectation. Let's football palace fan. Yes yes yes about seven or something like that now. Is that what you grew up. South east grop in south. So yeah i mean kanter. You're in south london depending on how you it's it's it's in the lumbar abruptly but other people citing So you only was. My old man. Gave me the choice in charleston. Bill will the palace and he'll waves. Yeah you much. I hope since choices. In retrospect the right choice. 'cause i've had fifty years of supposing palace could fifty as cheltenham which would have been but we'll have three of paints years probably slightly have the best role but certainly in the last twenty. What did the super league from where you're sitting goodness on tonight'd also quickly up christian. I've fills it might look like an incredibly greedy landgrab by owners who didn't really understand football with the exception of danya lady who clearly understands football which made it quite difficult to understand why so the managed to get themselves right say maintenance just fear of being left out it was going to happen in unquestionable. Admira of the american closed shop franchise system. If you were starting something from scratch. But i just think you can shrine inserted when posey on a spoke with the vintage that football has by globally but also in england. And we don't stay want starting from scratch so it felt as a bunch of people that got in. The room is nine something looking very heavily american fumble in thinking that could what level you get a draw could but anyway go entirely divorced from the reality of the heritage of the clubs that make up the pyramid and so he looks horribly greedy ill-conceived land grant. I wondered time whether it was all about actually. Just trying to ship the economics winning nashville for the english cops over involved. I knew it was gonna file but they had to take the break backs to secure biggest share of the on very glad the other fourteen clubs in the training economic giving them a greater share of the pie things may happen further down the line And maybe it's a good thing more. Forget because it will be harder to try and railroad something through future. The american model that you mentioned there about close leagues if transposed this conversation into the women's game again if you look at the women's superleague you've got an opportunity there to build something afresh and you mentioned private equity in the faa talking to private equity about whether they're gonna that's missing jigsaw whether that's a red herring. Whoever the metaphor you wanna use but then the other bit too it is cost control and that is going to be very challenging it. My daughter was a brilliant footballer. I'd be aggrieved if suddenly the starting to talk about cost controls and salary caps and the rest of it just as there is some commercial momentum behind women's commendable which they need tightened the same in the hundred sure. Benin you start somewhere. And if the commercial comes in then the players will have leverage because they don't have agents that it'll be greedy amid off to renegotiate the share of the pie but you build something sustainable. I don't think you can expect the men's the big mega clubs to subsidize in perpetuity. Women's game that has no prospect to becoming self sustaining. And by the way i think he has a recall specs becoming social signing people all sensible in the way they constructed and it it perfectly plausible that i had closed winning. Cpa league win salary controls and review point. Full share of the pie as the commercial reality sets in.

"And some oil to lubricate the machinery of events. The better so many governing bodies when they try and organize events for themselves just full back to the old ways the traditional ways of analog era events when i look at it diamond league athletics meetings now when other major championships now the pure has mythic settlement solve. It reminded me as exhilarating as every. And i love saying the fantastic middle-distance rights i love watching the whole hundred springs. Gotta be fantastic. But the way in which showcases still stuck in the ninety s and the same is true so many other schools and in which that televised again remains it. Pretty own schooled. And everybody's going to look at formula one. They want to look at the drive to survive series. It would look at the use of individual technology in presenting the sport and say what can i learn from that because for me to one hundred amazing in the midst of the global crisis goldman show on the road. It didn't matter. They wasn't a crowd at the race tracks lobbied to have it back because they go consideration presentation spots on and they locked down with dr to survive a writing just as a pandemic which created a whole new audience for that school. Now you'll have gone direct example that young daughters in early twenties. It's a bit of a sports. Fan is completely formed. A number one in toddy triggered by watching dr survive in the beginning of the pandemic and now she's cheating in for qualifying. The racist live foreign the drivers on instagram. And so he goes on and that just won't i won't isolated my challenge to myself in leading sports my challenge to anyone company. What are we learning from that experience so we really challenging ourselves to innovate. The altering seventy cases is not really full back on the traditional ways because a lot of your ticket buyers are of a certain age my age and you forget you not appealing to the teenagers and twentysomethings. You've lost to future there. There's a big piece of paper's observed recently about the charge. Rugby league has right now in which crowd to well now coming out of the pandemic which is probably a function of demographics. Go a to nervous core audience and people given their range. And and how do you break that commute as far when you go into a sports governing body. What do we say no to is. I always think of key questions while we have mark bullying on pocus last week and we asked we were talking about where the faa starts and stops away. Should it stop stop wondering. Is there a cycle where you go from. It's almost like a small government big government argument that actually. I can see arguments for both. Like i like the idea that the you know. The governing bodies are going deep into the grassroots into the communities in supporting everything that moves sometimes get impression. Actually it's almost like we're taking credit for anything that moves so announcing brian numb. There's a lot people while see swimming now. I'm not sure. I whether that's pretty swimming's instigation. Or whether that's happening. But i know that british swimming will attribute some of the credit back at british swimming edgy. The wave which grassroots sports is funded means. They have to try and take some credit for that because sporting coldly surveys of sympathy across the nation and the number of people who take the survey boxer says on swamp so many times per week in the post. Whatever will give british wedding to investing groceries In that case keeping swimming pools open even though you're talking about people who want swimming so they need to sweep the numbers because it games. Damning funding thing is very. It's a great system but it is a system that exists. You had to do that. I think there was one point in. I said though. I think the best any governing body can ever be hurtful is not to be hating too much. And they've ventured with on the board at the time getting on the marathon man a four focused guy and is a great board member was challenging and all the right ways notice and he thought that was too downbeat assessment. In a way. I stand by it because the success should be the successes of athletes. It seems the local volunteers that are doing fantastic things in the community and the clunking is the failings are gonna come back to head office and i think that's i'm not unhappy with that compact because when when we remain a few days on kapiti buzzed jimmy wheelchair with this mental. The same to i ever global level metal ratio be first ever european seem to win a medal. Parent games gold medal incredible and brilliance and hats off to the same and the coaching staff and seen management. We're on the ground in tokyo and everyone would win thirty this point. Now that dated paul now chief executives just retired this week. I'm going out on the highway. That gold medallist move mountains to help that same without any funding to get to that point win not medal. The gruber is the team's glory and quite exciting. Yeah he knows what he did and we know what he did and on license appraising what he's done but at the end of the day the public million people that watched on channel four on sunday amazing viewing figures for our school disability spoiled. You'll see the governing body in motion see twelve athletes and the coach on the sidelines of cool. And that's what it's all about. So i loved. I love the privilege of having an accreditation of being on the finish line major championships and olympics power olympics. In my time it. You can't let you a special thrill watching a british athlete win a medal. 'cause you know the backstory. You may have seen a lot of what they've gone through in the coaching staff gone. Through to get to that point they fit and firing to deliver on that stage and maybe analytically. You could say a little bit of that down to you and a chunk of it's down to the organization and the governing body but you'd be wrong to dwell on that is just join clearing the way for people to be the best they can be and and i say you deserve the brickbats when it goes wrong if you put barriers in the way then get them out the way. You should be there doing that show but when he goes well ultimately a sound while the people so when it comes to groceries and it come into as local swimming club in brian this sending everybody lamposts on the marine on marine. Drive to meet on a sunday morning at nine. O'clock in you wetsuit. Together pretty yeah. Let's put that person out for a the community talk award but british swimming done something around in short sees will permit saw providing a website hosting got. I agree just doing their job. It's interesting because you're what you described. There is almost not the sort of quiet hand theories that you shouldn't see them. You shouldn't think of the writer when you're when you're reading something. It should all be on the pet in all of that. I can see but the system rewards show of an and corporate ego doesn't it. There is a incentive there to just overclaim because that's the way in which the set up they raise..

"Quickly than they do by that. And i think it means taking swimming and athletics and cycling and rowing and sailing two zero. It means being tougher on them to really justify every pound of investment. That's made because they were real examples that i've seen down the as of spokes that actually diagnose how to spend all the money. They give him tasteful but because they being successful they give him more in expectation that mole breeds more. But they didn't know want to do with it and in fact that all go flushed out when some of the reviews and enquiries into british cycling where there was some stories going around about yet one senior person in pretty citing having their adults they were done on lottery money funding because money was slushing around. Now i didn't know that was ever proven on all but it was widely reported. Well route around school and with extreme. It's just symptomatic of a feeling that existed in lots of courses pushing more money in the way of successful exposed was actually logical and and potentially wasted thumbs and could lead to bad behaviors and said for me. I've always been a passionate believer making show. Every sport has some minimum level of funding to enable them to be the best they can be but that also there should be a crossover points in which much more as demanded at the big schools that they fund themselves and they find commercial backing. And if you could a swimming or cycling on athletics or even sailing in some regards these are schools to go commercial. Professional events opportunities for athletes worldwide and while they're not as wealthy as football cricket basketball whatever it might be that enough opportunity for the best performing acclimates self-funding and for the organizations that them a sandal and i think uk sport could couldn't should be more than the big sports they give themselves at opportunity to be more independent. And in doing that. You you get more efficient in what you can do for the smaller schools and you. Certainly he would free up more money for disability. Sport leaked Which you know. I'm one of the things that i'm passionate the balances that we give enough. So the paramedic programs reda's into olympic programs and if you suffer on the big sports in having a stand on their. Nc state all showed a more of the burden themselves. Then you would free funds to to be more imaginative. I think around the moldable. Deserving will never meet professional commercially because they just have an audience big enough to taking disability. We're interesting moment with things like tracks long. I mean we had recently a professional triathlete organization michael moritz putting a lot of money but also talking about equity share some interesting ideas in that so giving athletes a stake in the in the event program. You've got the international swimming league. Which again is is evolving. Which again is a sign of. Innovations at the sport is entertainment and there is innovation. But there's also the classic example park run and the question always wonder is could park ronald even emerged from a governing body. Could have come from catholics culturally in a different place. It in different places. I remember going way back you catholics giving a very very heavily subsidized license support to have insurance. There's sort of a pentacle. Price rented to individual local races. That people had to buy license fees for licenses for and we did that to help. Finish the organic growth of this this one woman and he's a very modest contribution to something which which was sort of self starting but i was pleased to do it and i'm pretty sure on park ron ado. Our often as i'd like quick easy but it is a fantastic thing. And why should that be part of the governing body structure. It need me. I think one of the criticisms level governing bodies both domestically and internationally is they are print control-freakery and you could say athletics where the will ethics is now. The i really controls the global canada it structures. They didn't stop to way that it's always impossible to put psalm anything. That's absurd. Difference appeals to the leading athletes and their audiences. Because you can't find a place. In canada get commissioned doing anything he puts on the own without permission and then you're jeopardizing athletes contracts. Maybe their insurance does protection sanctions. It's sort of has a feeding. The margins are big a bit of a police state and domestic governing bodies. Guilty is that in property when my timing. You can't ethics guilty of that. It doesn't give me any pride and saying it because you want to be entrepreneurs as possible and the the influx of private equity mining disposes owned balance. A good thing but of course you gotta be very careful private equity money that you you'll sending and you'll setting what you're setting foreign. You make rational decisions on that basis. Because you aren't giving away some freedoms answer flexibility return. You've got a chance to bring in some innovates thinking.

But what are those a three fun. Pro bono things that i do to scratch the sports nutrition. So are you an accountant by training. All back. the i-it-it's trained as an investment manager. My sort of city exams going way back were in the stock. And so what you good you. Good sized organizations and working out. You know the plumbing of them and how they work. And where the money in the boardroom. Particularly sort of creating an galvanizing a team. So deliver for a business and yeah. That's tends to be what i've done in school. The uk. Thanks was a big turnaround situation. Spent six months british question. The interim chess holding out of the boat and the government's they're the people call upon me so help get i sort of getting ship show. You put an get a border pointing the direction and that's the same whether it's in the city or whether it's in school it's a lot of alchemy of the people that the ball table finding the right chief executive backing the right person. Yes so the one. The one thing. I've done so far wheelchair rugby which come through in the last eighteen months or so is lead. The search for the next chief executive who's taking from our retiring. Ceo frankly with the gold medal team in tokyo last week. The appointment we've made of the next chief executive is critical for the future. All say yes the you all the time to getting that right. If i'm on the board of a of a sports governing body and you walk in the door and they say right we've higher. Ed warner my thinking nine mail on this is going to be hall. The also i'm going to be. He's going to be analyzing do. What was the general feedback nine. I can't clearly to go. I think more stick is is galvanizing people to be really ambitious normalization. So if you just want to spin your wheels and accreditation on the finish line in return for being a non executive director of a school and it's going to be champagne prone sandwiches then. Yes that's why. I want for me going to squeeze every ounce for the spoke so on on challenging that because i don't like passengers at the bold sizable because these all precious seats and people will give their seats. They have a chance to sit on the board of catholics or of wheelchair rugby or for life foundation. Or whatever it might be. If you don't really cooling you're white as executive director or trustee will get out of the way because someone else would love to do that because they believe in the school they believe in the club they believe in the charity and they really want to give to it. So is the chad. What i wanna days have a mix of people with different skills backgrounds ages outlooks on life in the organization but all he bring a real question for it and they wanna give time for it to you often find people who died people fitting in. Might i never quite know in this conversation. Terms of i'm a fan of spurs. I'm a fan of athletics. I also an accountant or lawyer. Or whatever i can do a job here and this is something that i'm giving my time. Quays is sort of charitable thing but also it. They're all benefits to it. And then you've got the other extreme and these say reich. That's that's bad because they could be cruising along a defined sort of lacking innovation and drive and always things but then the other extreme is that you get a bunch of technocrats who come. Don't give a toss about the actual subject matter and it becomes a sort of cold rational experience knowing that is where you can't athletics himself in the last company as their technocrats with that title. Who haven't goals real understanding of the schools and one. You shouldn't have sports from a tiny blindsided who have given their life to it. I love it because they weren't necessarily have the perspective required to thanks to teach before it. You have to have enough of them. It's a blend of fresh thinking outside. Challenge a real understanding also. Won't make this bold sake because over these fools ultimately rely on volunteers and a bunch of technocrats. Come in try and tell the volunteers wall to wash. I know empathy with the grassroots. It's a recipe for disaster. And i happen to think right now that you've gone too far away hustle komo see outcome of that. What's the downside. demonstrable coming. you which is of the elite end is going away. I'm the grassroots is struggling and commercially Sports radio position not help by coming and lots of disgruntlement within the sport where people who give their time trackside every week come rain will shine a looking at head. Office saying yeah. What do they know. What are they telling me to do this. And that fall dead demonstrating no understanding of what makes school work. I'm sure it's getting that balance wheel on about wheelchair. Rugby element having watched a bit of it. So your job is. The chad is not to try telling people what works. Wheelchair updates to do everything. You can't decide cop the knowledge from people they do understand the spoke to give yourself the specif- to then manage a board of people. All hot to rugby died in the will experts and some outside expertise of people who love spoke more seen of it to get the best combination of people. And it's it's just having that balance right you call. It will be super vinings. Oil super bowl is but you need enough of that as wettest people that got to read understanding of finance or governance so cover things that. Come out that if you pan back from. Uk athletics if he then go to the olympic level. There's a question again. I'm never sure about is whether medals should matter as much as we emphasis put on them and that sort of chestnut. But we'll put that to one side because that does shape incentives in the system and judges performance but if you pan back and look at a sport like athletics or swimming has the olympic central model which generates this enormous amount of money which then feeds back into individual. Sports has that made them complacent. Has that been a barrier to innovation. Is there a argument that actually the sports should evolve to stand on their own two feet formal.

"Uh good, Jamie Well, I think what you e mean Ed Warner? Yes. Ed Warner came in. But he also had analysts assistant people that helped out with the offensive line to that were very good. And they helped these off That offensive line to Denis is talking about being able. I think in the Koran if you're talking about the Koran, Higdon days, Dennis when they ran the ball, and Karen had 1000 yards rushing and everything like that. I think that he did solidify that offensive line. I think they did. Get that offensive line toe work and that offensive line that just left Uh, five of those guys went to the pros. I think they were able to move the ball. This one right now didn't get solidified. This one did not We thought they did to the Mirage of the of the Minnesota game, but they never got back to What? We saw it. Minnesota and I call that a mirage. Because it was afterthought because we couldn't. We couldn't. We couldn't. We couldn't run block. That means we couldn't pat we I mean, we could pass block. But we weren't getting We weren't getting enough time so they could get the ball off and different things like that. So, um, look, I got nothing to get Ted Warner. He did do some things that help the offense when he came to came on. Mark, but he I mean, it's not like tout offense blocking. I agree with that, Jamie Well makes you what and Dennis Why did he not get retained? If he said to go, go. Why did he get You have to be able to get along with the staff, too. Okay? And maybe maybe he didn't get along with the staff. Maybe maybe there were there were frictions going on with that. Honestly, I don't know Mark, but it seemed like way moved to a youthful We moved to more of a youthful Coaching staff to me. Dennis? Yeah, There's great running game with this solidification of the running game. Why didn't he give me thing? I didn't say he solidified the running game. You know, he settled down the offensive line. Guys were tripping over their own 2 ft. You know when he first came in, so I saw some semblance of an offensive line that actually looked like a unit. I'm not, you know, putting him up for the Broyles award or anything, And then he knows particular year, But when it comes down to it, if we're gonna hold all of the coaches and even the head coach, the standards that you're talking about, it's like, look, you know Jim Harbaugh's lucky that he's Got another year to be the head coach, and he's not gonna fire himself. So he's flipping this thing and turning it over a little bit. And this is his last shot. So yeah, he's gonna go through and And, uh, you know, he's moving a lot of guys in and out. All of them should be going to be honest, but you know what he's staying around. He kept a couple other guys. He brought some Michigan guys back. And he's going to give it a last kicking the can. That's the way I'm looking at it. Mark, Do you not think he helped with the running game? I mean, Ed Warner help did that When he came in, he didn't help with the running game. Along with his is his staff. Uh, I don't know. I don't know if he's hoping that I don't. I don't know. I don't not right. J Herb are still on the coaching staff. Why was Josh Gattis? Like those guys like I saw that I saw the kind of play calls that the Gaddis was throwing in there. I don't know whose idea the four headed monster was, but whoever's idea it is should be out. It was either Harbaugh. How's it was either Gaddis or is either her or it was either J. Jim or Josh's idea, and all three of them are still around. I can't answer that question. I'm I. I'm kind of skeptical of skeptical off the offensive place. Absolutely. Absolutely, anyway anyway, um When it comes to this covert situation. I don't know how you manage this thing. And I want you to know askew. Get as you work your way into the into the produce discussion. Mm. Coach. Howard had the same issue. Also some issues. And yet he just come off a week with Minnesota. Mm hmm. There were competition. All right. I gotta think he's so I gotta think he's a little skittish right now. In the Minnesota game. Prior to the game. They had a player test positive. In test negative. That very same player the next day. Tested positive, then tested negative. It's okay with players. The testing father was supposedly the There's an understanding that the teams will inform the other team of positive test. He's got to be looking at this thing wondering What the heck is going on? Can I trust anything right now? And when it comes to this virus, given the fact we don't really know completely. How is being transmitted? We don't even know what a negative test actually means. When somebody have it was because of somebody being Viral or not. The reason and the reason I say that is because the Purdue player tested negative that Tuesday before he tested positive. Right, And it was only because he started becoming symptomatic that they say Oh, we might have an issue. Well, how about this mark? How could Like so this is the new strain while they are in this pause right now, and it wasn't somebody from basketball. So it had nothing to do with Purdue, Jamie the pointed out correctly, that it wasn't a women's basketball team or hockey. It was somebody that the report is that came in from the UK or went to the UK and came back. To the Michigan Athletic campus. How could you go to the U. K and I'll come back and being some kind of quarantine and I'd have to pass some kind of, you know, every day negative test. How is that even allowed that that seems like a huge loophole or are huge mess up When it came down to the to the testing or the quarantine or or however it went down. Dennis. I don't know how they tracked these players. Other than other than when their own campus. I don't know..

"And before they were, were they and their recruiting rankings And now you know, they're a top 20 team, maybe even a top 10 so What's good for that goose is good for us. And so I I appreciate that. Um, maybe Bo is speaking through you, Janie, and that was a good take away the coaching staff. And then these players have to believe that. Yes, I earned the spot and I'm going to get better each and every game Ed Warner with the offensive line Gaddis with his his crew. John Brown with his crew. We know the defense has weaknesses in various spots, so they have to shore things up with these new kids. New blood hungry on lions no pun intended there. And that I think you're right. I mean, I think you're right. I mean the way Michigan's trending you have to put him down at six and two. So I'm just hopeful that the Jamie version and Dennis You admitted your hospital to that Michigan goes better than six and two. So, um, that's where I met. I think I think it's all their listeners out there that Kabul coach. I saw ball coach since 69 So I go all the way back with Bo coaching. Um, appreciate what you say. And and we'll remember that and E. I think it's up to the players, but it's more up to the coaches. And if this season doesn't go the way we hope it does, then I think my blame. I don't want to sound negative at the same time, but I'm going to blame the code before I I blame the players for underperforming. So I mean, that's pretty much it. Yeah, I'm delighted. I'm doing handstands and cart wheels that there's 37 games, so we start As I told you guys before. When I called. I didn't think the big 10 would be tied to the Pac 12 and making the decision. And not that I was right. But my gut was saying, we've got more skin in the game with our ranked teams, several of them in both divisions versus their conference. And now, so that's where we're at, and I'm happy and I'm not going to. I'm going to move on and look forward to this season. I'm always of the season's over before star criticizing Who did what? When, where and how should it have been done? Because again I'm a positive thinker. So let's go ahead to game one, whoever we're playing, and when you guys interviewed Perry about Joe Milton, I feel a whole lot better. That's another. I like the positive talk and Mom, I think my last point guys we need to have that player. Whether it be a freshman coming in. We hadn't seen before in the college ranks have a wild factor that we've seen. Other teams have when they've had Freshman that just you know what? I had the it factor and we haven't seen that some of our players since I don't know when and I don't want to go into detail on name player that had the it factor for Michigan in the last 20 or 30 or 40 years, but That's what we need to see. We need to see some of these new starters or people emerge and just say, Wow, Where did he come from? And that's what's going to make Michigan that both shamed author type team. I agree with you, Gary, and I appreciate your kind words. Look, I I talked to Dennis before the show and we went over some things and I generated and we were talking about Michigan expectations, and I just look I'm not giving anybody anything. I know what the expectations of Michigan are. When I was here. I'm putting the same onus on this team. The expectations have not changed. You're to win the Big 10 championship. Is that a successful season? Yes. If you don't win it. You're not successful. I'm sorry, but that's the onus that I'm putting on this team moving forward. I've given the benefit of the doubt many times in the past. 56 years, But not anymore. I expect more from this team. I like this team. This team likes one another. From what I've heard. So, with that being said That's why I said what I said. Yeah, well, it's good. You know, Gary was Ah, I was thinking it myself there in the 1st 10 or 20 minutes. Jaime, you know you were worked up. It sounds like you're on one knee in the huddle there urine in a locker room. You're readyto lead him out of the tunnel, which was great, you know, inspiring that way. I want to give Gary two thumbs up. Not only did he They say that he didn't think that the big 10 was going to pair up with the Pac 12. He also thought that Schlissel was doing about face and reverse and would vote for the big 10 to play when I was doubtful about that. And you know, Gary was right on as far as you know, thinking about somebody coming in, and it would be really easy to just say Joe Mills. Hopefully, he's that guy throwing rockets all over the All over the yard. But you know what? I'll look Tio with with Nico counts being going. Oh, he's a big wide receiver used to start looking at the size. Most of these guys, they're slot, guys, even you know, Ronnie Bell 60. They really don't have that that big target when you think about it the wide out, So I'm looking at a Eubanks and maybe Eric all who's 64 from that tight end position. Maybe when I get down on that red zone, and you're looking for somebody to target, of course on the key. They're down this Well, I know Ronnie Brown irony. Bell really comes up big on third down. If you look at some of those numbers, what? Eight for eight last year on the money down, But just for the size of you, banks and all 646 by they really don't have that ties with their past catchers. I would like and you bank he might as well be a wide receiver. And so I think maybe. Ah, all in you. Thanks. I'd point to those guys. Ah, Touchdown catchers here. Down in the red Zone for Michigan. So that just made me think of that with those very corneas. Johnson is canoes. Johnson is 6, ft. Three. He's a guy that gets threat out. I look att. Don't remember this name folks. I'm throwing the name out at Roman Wilson, who was 6 ft. And he's four to speed in the 40. He could get for what stretch the field. For two or 40. Trust me, or that young man complies out of our way. I think about that in a j hinting he was missed A. He's the number one guy out of Illinois. So I'm just giving you He's the number two player in the state of Illinois. Excuse me. I said it wrong. But that kid can fly too. He was Ah, He was a track, man. I love track man. Guys. It's football player that ran track. He's not. He's not a track man playing football. He's a football player running track, and I like that kind of guy. So Keeping my two freshmen. You should keep in your mind. 7349 18 50 Let's go to J. J and Lincoln Park. What's up? J. J. We're gonna have to do in everybody. Especially you, Dennis. Good afternoon. I'm greatly enjoy. I'm glad that brings joy to everybody. I will say this handy for your T shirt. I wouldn't do this. I have a deadline get run over by a Ford truck or whatever. Because Mr Ford bought bought the team in 1963 You remember we had the Lions had a success in the fifties winning Super Bowls or NFL championships. That is 60 61 62..

"The NC double a didn't want to see him missed out on can't they missed so and now we got that and I can't he is he is exceptional he is a very very good player when he's on the field and Michigan has to do a lot of things yeah I mean you can run at him you can real quick task in but he's a guy that you have to be aware of at all times you know he's a yeah I as I said to jumbo here's a team that's an unusual Buckeye team where you have three three potential Heisman Trophy candidate you have Dobbins you have the young and you have feels so you have three three a Heisman Trophy candidate there's no doubt about that talent all over the place and again this is a team that is playing an extremely high level some have them mom no maybe possibly being the number one seed in there the college football playoff wait and see how that don't usually get out but we we know about that John with that I don't know about that I mean everybody always talks about you know LSU and how many of you know ranked team LSU has played and how many ranked teams Ohio state playing yes they played they they look they they I test tells you that Ohio state is playing good football but they haven't played anybody that's what I'm saying yeah I think ten states somebody eight they haven't played in you right they have a really tough on the road I'm I'm certainly with that but I know I know this much I've I've seen a lot of the Michigan state in Michigan Ohio state football over the years and I don't recall a stretch where the Buckeye been quite this good for this long and they have you know and after they sold their souls to bring Jim Tressel into the it's a mix and then hit him succeeded by urban Meyer and I you know from all indications Ryan days not taking that back there do you think that Ryan day I know I can look he had a great season with this team and why would it change for you this is the Ohio state Michigan and it's his first one it's the it's the big game and you have a lot of these players in a war under urban Meyer so they understand what the Ohio state Michigan game it is and what it means do you think it comes down to me it comes down the coach is shot in in to me for the mission for Michigan the X. factor is Josh gad how he calls his gate the the on on the Ohio state team it's their deep for the coordinate going against Michigan office well you gotta fight fire with fire you know that I mean it's not in some ways it is Ryan days first game as Michigan Ohio state game as head coach but it sure not in first game and I'll call it shock you that okay he did he was wrong the levers last year so I think it's on getting to be able to match that gathered in shape Patterson the Michigan's receivers they're going to have to score in this game I'm I think you're you're almost you almost win this game for Michigan you're only you almost have to slip the two thousand six great and in when issued out I did defenders are now like here now because they don't think they're going to be given up in thirty two Ohio state or anybody else but it may very well come down today I mean you your situation where the law of averages and at Michigan may be winning a few of these and they're due to one of your name how ms Ohio state that nobody in the law when it comes to that well who knows what else hello well I think last year in the menu pointed this out exactly exactly right last year everybody toll Ohio state it's time for you to lose Michigan can this team can be chew this team everybody across the country with telling Ohio state that they were going to lose in telling Michigan they were going to win I love that made that got Ohio state a little bit upset plus if you if your head coach this summer I'm not coming back this is my last Michigan Ohio state game and you know they came out with some five something that they came out with an intensity that Michigan Michigan team could match this Michigan teams they need to come out with an intensity that Ohio state can't match intensity absolutely and execution to the level that you don't let a chance go by if you can force a turnover you gotta catch you then you got to put in the end zone if you have something going you can't settle for field goals and and get stalled out in the red zone you cannot allow the kind of big plays that Ohio state has been used to pulling off all season long whether it's a field scramble whether it's Bustin JK Dobbins for a four year fifty yard run whether it's heating with one of their many receiver you know they're going to be looking to to make that happen again they ran the crossing route's all day long down in Columbus you know that Michigan is going to counter that in every way that they can and I'm sure that Ohio state is planning in advance what they're going to counter if if Michigan doesn't think it's a chess game but it's got to be if your mission in you've got to execute to a twenty X. being level and then make another player to right which is betting games before they just got look right it's I I the end you know why when I said that the defense of even the coordinator down in down in Columbus I was talking about Greg Maddux and you knew that right I I do know that and I if such earn such mixed feelings about it Greg Mattison because there and now he was always always good to was here and I think he did an excellent job for a Lotta years remission teens I'm still I'm still a little baffled over all the bowl to Ohio state in particular I know he game a bundle of money and if it was Ryan date the temp to I guess make a statement about what he could steal from Michigan but yeah that's a that's one thing just because the line hasn't exactly been Chevy this year for Michigan I'm sure they're going to want to shell out for not only to show that you know someone who has been able to step in and do a lot of things with them but also to to show the guy across the sideline thing to no I I think that that the that that's the that's the that's a good observation I think it's a I think these young men have something to show coach Madison and they just want to get out there and do their thing I'm not worried about that deep in the line I think they know what they need to do and I'm sure they I'm sure they're watching that Penn state game with film although probably six eight times now and as it as a unit they saw what the what they need to do is put Justin field in our put him in some adversity give him some adversity don't just like you said don't let him sit back there and pick you apart put him in some adverse situations and make him make decisions that are not the right decision there's no question about it you know he hasn't had a whole lot of heat and a whole lot of bad situations in tough situations they have to scramble and throw on the run okay thrown to one fifty two passes this year and he's been picked up one that is a sign of a couple things one wow great protection and to a guy that knows when he gets in trouble you can pull it down and run out of there right as opposed to an old fiery needed trafficking into trouble so if your Michigan you've got to put him in situations that he has not been in all year the feel a greater level of pressure and also be able to come yeah aids out and and and I can look don brown is that there we sought against last year against Penn state when he gets his jaw set he he wants to right the ship as we say he's talked about this this Ohio state he wants the right the ship and I think the defense is doing some extra staff and everything like that to right the ship them open Shea Patterson competence is brimming over the rim I I'm hoping that this Niko Collins's to wreak black as is Donovan people's Jones Ronnie belt I hope their confidences brew is brimming I hope that the office of line of his look at the film and say we can do this and do this and ed Warner and Josh gad is put together good game plan and they come out and they do what they need to do is so you got attack attack attack you cannot let opportunities go to waste like I said earlier I mean you've got each nickel callin showed what he could do last week people mentoring program throat and it it's not that simple obviously you've got to protect if you're gonna go down feel like that that certainly missed will have to do that again one of the fiercest pass rushers they're going to say and probably the best defense they taste all year the but you cannot hold back in and try to win this game nineteen seventies or early seventy stock it is not gonna be a a game decided by four field goals for that kind of thing it's going to be wide open Lee Ohio state going to have it put on the gas all game long just like it did last year if we can possibly do it Matt that and I something that going to be in the thirties I I just don't the we certainly weather can be a factor in that we gonna have a storm blowing in but look at what happened in the Notre Dame game with all right all night and yeah you still had the mop and execution high level we've done in fact I I see this is one of those games where you cannot eat if the loser will look back and say if we'd only done this on it there is up with only cash this and get a touchdown instead of a field goal that forty game well they they I'm hoping I'm hoping this team can put it together John what you have a great holiday Tony too much because I want you to be able to move around on Saturday well I will do my best and be able to it a day what is a lot more important and that Michigan defensive backs are able to move around and the receivers and Jay Patterson but now it's time it's time Jamie you played in this when it was at its mac and added most intense and it was just a such a high level and that's what Michigan fans desperately want to return and the PMR bodies made great strides in that direction when he sixteen was there for the taking twenty seventeen despite a not Michigan's best team they were right there in that game and you know you gotta bust the door down everybody knows it and they're waiting to see if yeah you're right well we got it we they need a victory and in that they better look they need to kick the door in and get a victory how to get the monkey off the back you know no doubt about it the girl at this point again yeah didn't thanks again John becoming our appreciate it happy holidays to you and your.

"And that was Sharon more tight ends coach university football. He's right. I think he's right. If it's going to be betterment for the football players and help the team. I think it's gonna help the offense. I'm sorry. If you hear the TV in the background. I think it's going to be beneficial the uptempo we've heard Ed Warner say that this is going to help the offense of lineman. We've heard we've heard gosh gas talk about the wide receivers. We we've heard a quarterbacks how has bid for the quarterbacks, and it's pretty much the offense that. That sh- shape. Patterson head run down in a omiss. And you know, he he's it's just terminology that he's starting to get now. So it's helping out. So it the uptempo the, and I know I picked at the sides and everything like that. But it keeps it's going to keep that off its movie put also it makes us more multidimensional. We we could get we can give more more looks. If it is kind of what they're talking about with, you know, a what they call a pro spread where it's got the spread. But still some of those more pro style concepts. You know, compared to what we were doing lesser just gives teams look that we weren't we weren't able to do last year. Hopefully in situations words, third and one or you know, short yard situation, we can still lineup smack into mouth get those those tough yards. Like we wanted to be able to do last year. But you know, when when we needed to maybe we could put a two minute drill together. But there weren't very many times where you could just look at the team and say, all right. You gotta get the ball and score within a minute or get the ball move faster up pace uptempo that just wasn't that wasn't us that wasn't part of our identity. So it just gives us something new where if we can still hold onto some of those old principles, which of course, we all want some of those old school tough Michigan midwest football principles, but we gotta get with the times. Yeah. Yeah. And these this is something that, you know. Well, they did it Alabama last year. But we've seen it a lot of places for a while that's gonna help the defense. It's not going to be where we love her around try to eat up clock. And try to you know, put so much pressure on the defense. Now defense you do your job. We'll do our job. We'll score defense. You do your job. We'll do our job. It's sharing the load. It's it's out actually going out there, and it's taking the defense and make it off. It's insane. What we're gonna try to score every time and we scores fast. And sometimes we're gonna score really fast. Sometimes we're gonna we're gonna it's gonna take us a little time. But we're going to do it. Well, the the disadvantages your defense is on the field more. So they're playing more in. Hey, if you go quick three and out there on the field more they'll be playing so that potential to be tired throughout the. Game or be fatigued throughout the game. But if you're scoring every time every other time when you're out there, there isn't the pressure on the defense that we need you to win the game. There's more pressure because you you might be called the play upon more. We're not going to control the time of possession. Like we did before. But there's not the pressure on you where it's only to score game where you have to get the stop to to win the game. Hopefully with having a few more points on the board. There isn't that pressure on you? Well, look, I'm excited about this offense got a chance to see it looks good. You know, we've got to get some players back to see how it looks with those players. But I mean, really it looks good on anybody. Probably could make you look good. Probably. Maybe we'll see. Well, this, you know, last time we went to this this style. And there were a number of things wrong with the team or you know, you can say what you want about the team at the time. But last time we went to the spread it was affected in certain games or certain aspects. But we didn't have kind of the defense to compliment it. But with Don Brown here now in the way that the defense has shaped up you think that we can have both sides of the ball with this one. I think this time around. Yeah. I think so I think. I'm not gonna compare this office to that past of let that they'll speak for it self when the season comes. I think you do have players in place that what they need. I think this is this is much more thought out. I think when you did that transfer over you it just wasn't. We didn't have the players for him. The last time around we did that we didn't have the players the type of players he was looking for and he had to make a transition. That that being said, I think Josh Gaddis has experienced it in a number of places not just at Alabama. He got a chance to do in different places, and has coached it first time calling place. But that's okay. He gets it. And sounds like all the other coaches have had that have come from other places have had an opportunity to be with this type of offense understand it. And it sounds like a lot of the kids that have been brought in are used to this type of offense to that being said, I think it's a gentler kinder way of entering into this offense. And hey it works at the top the top levels. I've seen it. I've seen it. Alabama Nobis my same that we're at that level, but it's working there. So with that being said that's gonna do for the day. Keep in mind, we we follow the tiger game again tomorrow. So we may be on later for clock round that area. We'll see if the Tigers get just get tied up to that would win the series listening. The W AM ten.

"I don't see a lot of schools that have at the other way around and we see in students and the players. As if dad was asking the other day, what we will be why Michigan what stood out the most and my wife, and I we went on visits was particularly for practice. We spent a lot of time trying to be close to the players and listen to the players on the sidelines. The players recruiting for you more than anybody. And they're talking, and they don't they forget that people are around, and they will talk about coaches talking about players talk about king and Michigan players love in their their their mother. I've never heard of negative were out of a Michigan player when nobody was around. And we've heard that I'll schools so there's just something different. You know, it's. Again, it comes back down to feel like home in on his family, and it's just always felt like home to us in Olen most obviously Nolan, but I'm going to be a little biased. Well, we love reluctant to. Do you know, that's what? And that's what always really to me. Always makes it a family because we have football. But the other thing we have in common that that that a family a youngsters choosing Michigan in. We are choosing the youngster the be here. And then with the football component of that that makes that makes the ball team. Then it makes the makes the family so her Naveh better guy or better family to be the be joining us than than run family. And so for. Yeah. It's so cited go blue. Up next. Ed talk billion for Jack talk here on package day, the Harbaugh's podcast. This is Jack talk. I wanna listen I want to be better. I want to be the best. "The doomsday podcast Cowboys fall to three and four on the season, oh, and four on the road and another pitiful effort by this team. But they had a chance late and Ed Warner, alongside course, we're frito nation productions. We'll have Glenn stretch Smith giving out his grades. He's very upset with at least one defensive player. But Ed, I think we need to start with what happened on that. Phil goal will get the Jason Garrett in his game management. But in this management or mismanagement is the case may be, and but there was a situation a call that made it a fifty two yard field goal instead of a forty seven yard attempt. And that is because of a snap infraction call. That was a false start. And it was a course on LP lattice or fourteen year veteran. He's saying, I've done it like this forever. So strange call with the game on the line. And then the Cowboys missed the physical Maher. Meyer the Brett Maher boy loves his name. A lot of different ways misses the misses, the Phil go, but it getting reports out and we always try to bring you some breaking news getting reports out of a Washington, talk to one of my radio buddies, Gregg Hoffman, longtime radio buddies in Nick sunbird. The longtime deep snapper for Redskins barely told him that he was hollering at the refs look what he's doing. He's moving the ball and and as as I bring you that little bit of news, I think you're getting some breaking news or hearing from one of your sources. I talked to high ranking Redskins source who told me that Ben Kat Wicca who is the Redskins special teams coach and has been for five years is a.

"I mean, you stand on on the field and you just think yourself we got them right where we want them, and there was a moment in that game in about the middle of the third quarter. When you could see them let go because of the will that our our offensive line and offensive team and defensive line was inflicting on their team. Yeah, I have a different perspective on the sideline that I don't really have. I'm not a coach, right? So I'm helping. I'll charting suffer special teams, but I'm watching the coaches interactions with the players. I'm watching the game. I'm checking on the crews and Turner. The guy that I saw coach. We all they all did, but the guy I saw coach with intensity, the entire game was at Warner. The Ed Warner coach does guys. We're coming off in the fourth quarter and the game is pretty much out of hand. You know, no games ever out of handle a coach, right? But it's pretty much he's grabbing those guys. He was on a mission on a mission to get three hundred yards not for the running backs, not for the quarterbacks, not for the stats sheet, but that's a, that's a badge of honor for the lineman, three hundred yards rushing talking about Ed Warriner. The first thing he put up in his office when he got her. He was here like three or four days, and he put a a little handwritten chart on his the corner of his board that described the people that he was here to make proud to make problem. And he was talking about all those players and coaches at had had been here in the past all those fans that have been here all the way back to seventies and sixties, fifties, and all that he understood. Good. What Michigan was all about, and he was here committed to to make that offensive line, put that offense a line in a place that have been in the past. And I think we're seeing the results of that, and he also got a little bit of help from the guy who got the game off your son after the game, Ben Herbert game ball to the strength and conditioning coach, and you see that we talk about it and fourth quarters of games and fourth quarters of seasons, and we're starting to see those dividends. You saw that in the second half for sure is our move. Those men are moving men around. It was a Berber definitely deserved. I didn't see the presentation of the ball, but I did go into the locker room afterwards and he came out of the team locker room and he had the ball in his hand, and I assume that he had gotten a game deal Ben and he looked at me and he had that, you know, that stare that only Ben has it. You could see that he was emotionally moved by the honor of being presented a game ball. It was. He was. Toasted in the locker room there and the all the guys speech speak speech, and I'm not gonna go into everything that he said certainly, but he was. He was so excited. I mean, obviously, Wisconsin being his alma mater and it meant so much to him because of the way the physicality that's the word he used over again, physical, physical physical. The one thing about our strength coaches, every strength coach on the sideline, right. Fourth quarter, throws your fours up, put all the. It's a cliche in college football. Now for our guys they're doing they're putting their fours up because that's what they're instilling them in the weight room. It's we're doing this last rep for the fourth quarter and all year for eight months. These guys have heard it. So now we're getting into these games where, hey, it's Tom to impose our will. So it's like it's, you could see it in our players is a trigger like its fourth quarter. Let's go that extra rep that extra hot lift that extra sprint that extra crawler push. I mean, they're really, really getting into it and that you've seen. Differences in this team. You know, she watch teams from year to year. We don't do a lot of comparing, but you could definitely see that difference in this team and not every team has that extra step. We saw from this team. One last thing on the game. We could probably talk about the Wisconsin game all day..
"ed warner" Discussed on The Dan Patrick Show
"Versus Stanford Saturday, eight thirty eastern on FOX Brady joins us this morning from Palo Alto. Good morning Brady. How are you. I'm doing well, Dan, how you doing this morning? I'm doing great. I got a stat for you. It's a Brady Quinn step. Did you know you're the only Notre Dame quarterback in school history to go four, no against Stanford, and, oh, and four against USC. Yeah, the the state of California is interesting like that. Right. Like I, I've watched preferred to work out. A little more of a wine drinker. What's what's the beach guy. So maybe maybe that has something to do with how often are you ask about Notre Dame? USC. I was asked about the this past this past week because never named Michigan robbery. And which ones you. You kinda prioritize, which one which one do you think is you know the biggest in your mind as a player, and so you get asked about a fair amount of, and I think that the biggest difference you know between USC then and now it's just, you know, they're cutting classes are about as good, but not quite the extent of what they were then. I mean, they were getting everyone and those teams when you look at where those guys were drafted and all the caliph, they had on those teams and incredibly different time. Different era, Stanford is well, that was a different feel like horrible came in and change the whole culture at Stanford. Right, right. Like now the, you know, exotic, you know, style of play is bringing in extra tight ends and and linemen to run the football in college football. And you know, he was kind of one of the guys that do that. I think he also recruited felt though. I mean, look at the quarterbacks, they were able to get at that point in time. Not not that Stanford didn't before either. I mean, they had some highly ranked quarterbacks coming out of high school. I just think you know horrible was able to find a way of of making what they could recruit around the quarterback work with the system. Are we being too harsh on Michigan and hardball that they can't win on the road? They don't. They don't beat ranked opponents on the road. They're not beating the best teams in the big ten or should we be taking the magnifying glass to Jim horrible. Well, I think we should be, especially at this point because there how long he's been there, but I still think you're asking a lot of any team. I don't care what level when you've got to new offensive coordinator to come in and Ed Warner, Jim mcelwain a graduate transfer comes in, like, basically, I, you know, the the summertime to be able to figure this offense out and then asking them to go win a road game versus a really good opponent in game to start the season. Like it's just a lot to ask and you know, they lost by a touchdown. I think we'll get better as the season goes along, you know, and they and they still win the big ten. They could still go potentially the college football playoff if they do that. So you know, I know everyone's kinda say the sky's falling there, but I don't think that's the case. There's two talented team. I think they'll eventually figure it out. You bring up a great point. You have new coordinators in offensive minded people in there, and I had a college assistant coach. Tell me from a different school too many cooks in there that that 'cause I said, you know, how would you. You look at Notre Dame Michigan, and he said from afar, I would say too many cooks in there as far as trying to make the recipe on offense..
