"Ed Valentine of Big Blue View. The giants are or were originally scheduled to have rookies. quarterbacks in injured players begin to report to East Rutherford New Jersey for. The first round of Covid nineteen testing on Thursday with camps originally scheduled to open next week. July twenty eight right now. We don't know exactly how all of that is going to work. Reports are that there are still some questions about that and. Here to to help us iron out everything that's going on with the opening of training camps around the league and with the new. York giants is longtime NFL columnist. Bob Glover Bob. How you doing and I know you hate it every time. I use that longtime phrase. I'm sorry. I appreciate that and that's just like you know old. You can substitute that it's fine. Thing I I don't I don't want to. Do you know I I have a I. have a birthday coming up next month Bob and I. And I hate to tell you which one it is because it's a milestone one and it has a six in it and Oh, yeah. Yup! Yup. I played golf. I played golf earlier this week. In the the the pro out at the out in the clubhouse, said Are you a senior citizen yet? Because he's been asking me this for years and ice is a couple of weeks from now. and. He said Oh. The throw you a party. And he said you know he said. When you get to ninety, you can play out here for free. Well. There's good motivation right there. There you go there you go amazingly. He's got a half dozen people. Who are ninety plus who actually play out there? So that's that's pretty cool at rentable. Ed's Great. Yeah, so so. So, so yeah, so so so we're both old, and and we know it that suggest what it is. Here's the thing. Here's my thing. I am completely immature and juvenile. So that helps me stay young at heart so I'll speaking speaking speak figured anyone. You've been around me in the press room. You hear that juvenile behavior and see it so yeah. Speak speak for yourself by by make completely mature responsible adult you are. Sure I am. I'll just ask my just I. Just won't invite my wife on the show. All right, so let's so let's talk giants. Let's talk NFL. Let's Talk Cova. Nineteen. The last we heard was that. It looks like there's some questions as to whether or not the giants and the jets. And all of that are actually going to have rookies quote unquote report for training camp on Thursday. And report is sort of a relative term because my understanding is that that it's sort of a drive through. First round of covid nineteen testing. It's not really reporting for camp so just. As we as we do this and I'll I'll let people know. We're recording on Wednesday for our Thursday show, so things may change a little bit between now, and and when the show actually airs so. Just, let us let us know Bob from your perspective where we stand on players beginning to report the facilities. Well it. It's been a very complicated long process that really goes back to January when the two sides labor in. The NFL Players Association, and the NFL basically got serious about a new. Contract extension of the CBI which was eventually passed in March. So that's the good news is that they're? They're going from a place of stability in terms of labor relations, but they had to iron out a lot of the nitty gritty details of how to actually move forward in a covid nineteen environment so. You know just on Monday night is when they agreed to all the testing protocols, and some teams were ready to report the jets for instance they had their rookie set to report on Tuesday, but they held off on that because of what you said. It's just a first test that you take if to take tests, and then you have to quarantine for a period of time before they let you in the building, so this is going to be a gradual up process in terms of muddling reporting. But in terms of actual training so normally this time of year you get ready. The players report on one day the next day. They're back on their own the field there in pads and they're you know they're going at it. But this is going to be a totally different world. There will be this extended ramp up period where both sides agree that the players need time to get into football ready shape, and so this is again. This is uncharted territory. They're trying the best they can. They have the experience at of the twenty eleven lockout. We're players did not report for the entire off-season, and there were a lot more injuries that year, so that there's concern there and I'm sure that injury rates going to be significantly higher this year than previous years, so they got to be careful, and they gotta get the players ready to be in football shapes US going to be a very gradual unorthodox procedure from here on out. But you mentioned the the ramp up and that at this point as far as I know is still one of the remaining unanswered questions. And what that leads me to is I know you were on a call? The other day with demorris Smith in JC treasure from the NFL Players Association. But what this leads me to is. At this point. Are You satisfied with the way that the NFL in the NFL PA are working through this and considering. The length of time that we've had between you know. Win The covid nineteen. Th began in the fact that we're now on the cusp of starting these training camps. To you. Is it surprising to you at all that this close. There are so many outstanding questions still to be answered. No I'm not surprised. I actually think this has been a as going to sound counterintuitive and crazy, but it's been A. Struck of and whip process and I know they've had the benefit of time. But first of all it's deadly and the east people react very well deadlines and better things happen, but you gotta understand. There were so many issues you've gone from. Let's see it's July. You know it's in the July twenty s now, but you already gone from four preseason games to zero preseason games. It's never happened before..

"The current state of the mets Automated Avenue audio the show we try to look at the mets from a somewhat logical point of view, and not get sucked too deep into panic city. We also answer your emails weekly Music Recommendations and try not to get too frustrated with the team. You can find the show on apple podcast on stitcher on spotify wherever you get your podcasts and let's go mets. Addition of the Valentine's US five casts your on Nation Radio I'm your host Ed Valentine of Big Blue View on today's show. We're going to talk about the the. Washington NFL team that team formerly known as the Redskins and to do that I'm going to bring in longtime friend. Rick Snyder DC area sports columnist. If you guys have heard our show over the past couple of years, you might remember that that ricky a long long time ago. What was my boss at my my first real newspaper job at the southern Maryland? Independent and God Rick? We were a lot younger than, weren't we? Paper folded a last week. Yeah, yet you know it just it. Just another thing that that made me feel old and I know you. You just had a birthday in a belated happy birthday, and I won't mention how old you are because I'm GonNa. I'm GonNa hit that that particular milestone pretty soon myself. Yeah, we're you. Know I'm a second longest running ord writer, DC. Behind Tom, Boswell. And, he won't retire. He's like seventy. Just want to retire and let me tops. So. You got to do something about that Rick. There laws against Zach. I've been doing this since seventy eight a while. You join me around eighty two or Eighty, one eighty, two back in the day was you me and. And you know and Jim Brocker working a three man staff in two to two different editions in two counties, and those were the days. Yeah, I read. I write about ten to twenty stories of wait for no money hardly loved it, so that's the only stable. Yes, we did. We loved it, but. Let's let's talk about Let's talk about current events and and over the years you and I have talked about Washington in about. Daniel Snyder in. An somehow the the first story when it comes to that organization to that franchise, the first story never actually seems to be about football. But as you said you've been doing this since around nineteen seventy eight and he can't have ever been any worse than it really is right now. That's heads quite Iraqi system I'm trying to think. In ten days they decide we're going to think about changing the name which supports everybody, said rush to judgment okay. You Change. Your name then is three partner to a forty percent of the team, said they WANNA sell. He comes back and says we're going to retire the REDSKINS, but we don't know the name yet, and then he comes out the Washington Post breaks. The story were fifteen women including two reporters. Were sexually harassed by staff and three of which were fired. That was like a ten day period. Right there. I don't know if I'm missing I think. Yeah! Holy Crap so you know now. Where do we stand well? They hired a yes man to be the new head of VP of marketing that has worked for Snyder before so nothing changes there. I'm sure they'll do a little better with the FRAT house routine that they've had going for quite a while under Snyder, you know Snyder's problem is. He's an introvert who so wants to be liked by guys, but he's not one of the guys, and this has been since day one, so we ever compensates any bullies people. He just harverson to work for, and I, always tell people you're to happiest days of riskin far. Day you're hired and the you leave. Wow So. I guess where I need to start is with the whole sexual harassment suit as you said fifteen women including two members of the media. You've been around there long enough does. Does that surprise you? Did you any evidence of that? So really you know, is it? Is it something that that really you know caught you off guard, or did you think something like this might might come around eventually. Fan I've been around started in locker though I remember early of where we had Roy have. Have some frank conversation about respecting women who players, and and I think by and large these players in the locker room or good. You don't see anything going on there so I. Don't always see a lot. In the business side of were especially redskin. Far We've had pushed out of the building into a trailer and so I'm not really around that. As far as the two reporters had I seen something happened, I would have started a fight right there. I'm not tolerate them touching women. These guys were Predator and they deserve to be outed fired. For for doing such a thing, I know. Two of them are married. You know and they're trying to hit on these women, and and they you know not all. That was sexual harassment. Some of it was just. Really Nasty to them as bad fossils. Some of that now Dan Cyrus not implicated by anybody here in this situation. So you know the Washington Post broke, did a good job understand talked like fifty people. This wasn't some half-cocked story. am I surprise not really and I am not to be little this in any way with there's a lot of places fourteen, otherwise who treat women poorly and need to do better. That's a real shaving really sad me. I'm reading a story just thinking. Wow! I have daughters who are grown I a wife. Anybody did that to them. Meet them in the parking lot. He. I hear you I. Hear you and. I fully understand that that reaction to the whole thing. Let me ask you about Daniel Snyder I mean since the whole harassment suit came out since the post story came out. He has issued a couple of of public statements, and he has said the right things sort of tried to set the right tone going forward..

"From the old format to the new, but however unsurprisingly the number two seed saw its chances drop significantly down almost eleven percentage points because they no longer get that first round. By interestingly, the number three seed became more likely to reach the Super Bowl by three percentage points, as did the number, four seed by two percentage points the number. Five seed only went up by one percent, the number six seed up by about half a percent, the new number seven seed actually has a four. Four percent chance of reaching the Super Bowl which is higher than the number, three seed, the number, four seed, number, five seed, and the number six seed, so in order to Kinda. Something's up here. The number one seed is still much more likely than any other team to reach the Super Bowl, but it's actual. Chances have only barely increased over the old system. Instead the increase chances for the lower seeds, especially, the number three in the number seven have come at the expense of. Of the number two seed, basically, if you, if you're the number two seed in the NFC or the AFC this year you are getting, you are getting royally screwed over by this new system, but of course that's fairly obvious that first round by means a whole heck of a lot. Now looking at those a potential new seven seeds, who does ESPN predict they will be in two thousand twenty. No team is more likely to earn a number seven seed than the Cleveland browns with. With a ten percent chance that they land in that spot, the steelers, seahawks rams are also in the ten percent chance range of right very close to Cleveland, and in one third of their simulations at ESPN ran the number, seven seed came from a division with another wildcard team so just a quick interesting. Look at how ESPN's prediction model is. is shaping up here for the twenty twenty season. Finally want to look at some offseason rankings one of them coming from sports illustrated. Dallas cowboys as the NFC east team highest on the rankings at number nine hall, they note the addition of CD lamb to be to help what could be the best offense in football, basically, noting also that the defense could take a big hit Dallas lost its top cornerback Byron Jones. It's best pass rusher in Robert. Quinton in free agency, the cowboys signed Gerald McCoy defensive tackle and and Dongtai. Po- to give them some bulk inside. They're also hoping that pass rusher Alden Smith. Has Something left in the tank after a four year absence, they have the eagles five. No four spots below them at. At number thirteen overall noting Carson wentz passed for four thousand yards, twenty seven touchdowns, and just seven interceptions, despite not having a whole lot of playmakers, the season goal obviously to put some speed on the outside, and so we'll see what jalen regular, and Markey's Goodwin can add, and also some of the other draft picks cor quarterback Darius slay, coming to the mix bolsters what they call a top ten defense in the NFL the also have the New York giants at number twenty, which I agree with I think the giants are going to be better this year as you just heard me. Talk about with Ed Valentine. We'll see what Joe. Judge can do in his first year as head coach, and he has an inexperienced offensive play caller in Jason Garrett, although Garrett hasn't been calling plays for much of the last few years in Dallas, but he has experienced doing that. They also have Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. Who I think are going to help them win some games. They got Andrew Thomas to protect Jones's blindside and I like the addition of Middle Linebacker. Blake Martinez in cornerback James Bradberry I think it's going to help a defense. That was number twenty five in the NFL last year The Washington redskins dead last at number thirty, two in their power rankings. Ron Rivera going to help and. And, he's going to help get them moving in the right direction, but they even with addition of chase young. They still have a long way to go now. One other set of off season rankings I saw was from Peter King Monday morning quarterback. He also has Dallas at number nine all. He has the eagles at number fifteen, a little bit further down the list and I I have to agree with what he says about. The Eagles here calls him a hard to read team so many yeah, butts and I think that's right. I think you know they have some they have. If everything breaks. This is a team that could go to the super bowl, but they have. have to have a Lotta things break right. They have to have jalen perform well in his rookie year. They have to have the Sean Jackson not miss the entire season. They gotta get something else from a Greg Ward. alshon Jeffery or JJ the whiteside. They gotta hope miles. Sanders stays healthy and they gotta help. They got to hope that their secondary that their defense can figure itself out. We know Darius slay is going to be on the outside, but can jalen mills takeover for Malcolm Jenkins. That's a huge loss on the defense. Their linebacking core is extremely thin, and so that's going to be an issue and do they have enough with Derek? Aren't and Brandon Graham on. On the edge to to help supplement a pass rush. That's that should be much better in in the middle, so it's going to be interesting. I think this is a I. think placing the eagles in the middle of the pack right now is a safe bet. Because you just this team could go in one of two different ways. They could be really good. They well know they could go three ways. They could be like last year where they're nine and seven where they struggle to figure it out all year and sneak into the playoffs, but I you know th, there is a scenario where this team goes six ten, so also a scenario where this team goes eleven five. It's really hard to know what this team is going to do. This year I did find it interesting that Peter King had the other two teams in the NFC the giants and Washington right next to each other down near the bottom named Joe is the giants at thirty and Washington at thirty, one with Jacksonville at thirty, two I have no problem with Washington at thirty one I think he's massively underestimate underestimating giants. I think the giants are going to be a seven win team this year seventy eight win team. I think they are gonNA show a lot of improvement and I. I think they're going to be much higher in the power rankings than number thirty by the time, the twenty twenty season is over folks that'll do it for this edition of eye on the enemy. My thanks once again to Ed Valentine for coming on the PODCAST and just reminder folks to make sure.

"A giants fans. Ed Valentine back here on the Valentine's views podcast and we're talking with big blue view contributor nick FA- Lotto about the upcoming NFL scouting. Combine Nick. We talked a lot about About the offensive players That could be available to the giants at number four. Obviously let's take chase young out of the equation because everybody considers him to be the you know the number basically the best player in the draft and and if he somehow sitting there at number four you know that's a no brainer. I mean I I I would actually like to see how fast Dave gettleman could get out of his chair and get over the table and and get that card up to To to select chase young. If if that were to happen I would. I would love to get video of that to be honest with you. But look at the other defensive guys. We're talking Isaiah. Simmons were talking. Jeffrey Okuda were talking even Derrick Brown. You know the big defensive tackle from Auburn is it. Is it in your mind. Is there a clear favourite out of those guys? If the giants were to go defense at four a clear favorite. You know that you would like to see them. Grab if they were to go. Four Mike Clear favourite would be Isaiah Simmons just because he is such a chess piece that I feel Patrick. Graham would do an excellent job employing and I feel like defensive coordinator. It would be hard to not employ him the right way because he can do so many different things he play in the box he could row. Rove around the line of scrimmage which is something that Patrick Graham did a lot on third down would have one or two down linemen and then just have about four edge to linebacker players roaming keeping the offense of lyman on their toes and blitzing slanting doing things like that upon the snap and I realize as Simmons would accelerate auto dropped back play. Safety can play nickel in the slot. You could do that. He's shown that he's really good and coverage against tight end so I feel like he would be a headache for any offense coordinator facing the New York giants and I would love to have a player like that at the second level of the giants defense. Something that China's just have not had so long at second level impact player since can also blitz off the edge and do so many different creative things so it would be Isaiah Simmons for me. I do look at Jeffrey Okuda. Though to and I I'm a fan of de'andre Veliky finished the year much better than the start and I feel like James Becher system is incredibly difficult to kind of comprehend with the pattern match schemes and things like that a lot of Bologne coverages but even though I became a fan of Baker. I still feel the giants need to bring in another number one so the war to be Jeffrey Okuda. Somebody who can play man coverage physical. At the line of scrimmage things that you're looking for can tackle do all those things not afraid of contact. I wouldn't mind that either. I would like for the giants trade back again. Kind of what? I'm hoping happens unless she's young does fall because I do feel like the giants just need more picks to help this. Rosser as I already said. Dave gettleman isn't really used to trading back but those would be the to kind of jump in my mind. The giants did trade back. Let's play the scenario on a little bit. The giants did trade back. You have guys like Klay. Beyond chasing them. I always like kind of mess up his name a little bit but he is from Lsu and he finished the year incredibly strong. I WANNA get four sacks and six games but there wasn't a lot of production at Lsu when he dealt with a lot of injuries but he's one of those edge type players that are incredibly flexible. Something you'll probably see the run the hoop drill which the new drove for the demands of lion coming at the combine. They're going to be basically running in like a theory around hoops. Really just a showcase hip and knee flexibility. Like he's going to go to the combine and had been credibly. Could combine down there in Indianapolis and then you have players like Aj up an ESA who was stronger. More power based edge player. Much of the giants would go that directions. They do sign Leonard Williams. But he's somebody who you can't really go wrong with. He's not overly. I mean he's athletic. Don't get me wrong. But he's not the chase young or the cheesy on kind of athlete but he's just incredibly powerful very technically sound getting coming from Iowa. Well coached there. Were Kirk parents. So I look if you're going in the second round maybe later Joshua J. Atom Michigan. He went down to the head. Incredibly solid outing out there in mobile very very flexible explosive kind of player. People are saying that he might be tween her. How are we GONNA use them? 'cause he's only like two hundred and forty pounds but I felt like Jane money down there in mobile and he can go to combine and do the same thing. If you kinda shows that he has a ten yard split in the explosive numbers see what is three cone is that Bradley is another edge that you can get later. Shore arms but a lot of production at Utah and he also went down to mobile. Have pretty solid outing. So I'm looking at the edge position. 'cause the giants really need to lock that down? You got to look at the linebacker position and the state and it's really all levels air but just to go back to the beginning of the question as as would be there you go. That's a that's a long winded answer boat but we got it and we got a lot of scouting reports on a few other guys. I did want to ask you. We get to the onfield workouts on Thursday. Now I'm actually going to be an Indie I'll get. I'll get there Monday night. So I'm going to be there Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and my thing while I'm there is going to be trying to get as many interviews trying to get as much audio. You know trying to get around and and meet as many of these players as I can and try to bring some flavor you know to big blue readers and listeners of our podcast of what these guys are all about but for in for most fans for most folks. The combine starts on Thursday when we see the onfield workouts. Just give me you. You've mentioned a few guys already. But give me a few guys who who might be. You know mid round late round guys guys who. You're really looking forward to watching at the combine to see what they do. You know especially guys you think might be might be on the giants radar. I think Akeem Dave is gaither. He's a linebacker from Appalachian State. I feel like he's somebody who's incredibly athletic moves very well in space does solid job in zone coverage from the little bit. I saw him coming at Appalachian State but he was at the senior bowl and linebacker drills that I did witness down there he performed at a high level. I think he's somebody really really good athlete a longer player. I believe he's only about six one or six two but he has longer arms. He's somebody I feel like that could be on the giants rapport that second level defender and then I look at some of the defensive backs both safeties from Utah as Julian. Black men and Tyrrell Burgess Blackman's a little bit more of that cupboard one high guy that you look for. And then Burgess. She had a couple nice interceptions on this year. He's a little more physical. I feel both of those guys are people that I'm looking at Jeremy Chin from southern Illinois. Now he's rocked up dude. I know he's coming from Southern Illinois. Fcs school it's not exactly big. But he went down to mobile and he played his bottom off to be honest he played incredibly well. Opened is because people have a lot of questions about him can he compete with Division One athlete? Come from the SEC. In the big ten in you know what he did. I'm hoping for the giants that he could be. Maybe in the fourth round or something like that but that may be seen in my sneak into the third round. I believe when I'm looking at some of the offensive players. It really comes down to those offense of Lyman. I want to see them in the new mirror drills that are coming because again the combine. It's changing obviously now the the drills at night and they're adding new drills every well they added a bunch of new drills this year and a new mirror drill new screen. Jill's to kind of see how these players operating space for evaluating that top pick. WanNa see how you know becton words who I believe will really do well on that drill wills how they operate in. Space Thomas as well and I think Jeff. Thomas is the receiver from Miami. Who might be an underrated guy to watch to kind of set the forty on this? Obviously the favorite right now is Henry. Rugs you got jaylen Reagan from TCU. Jeff Thomas from Miami. He's an incredibly fast player. He's somebody to watch as well when it comes to just the speed and when I'm looking at some of the receivers going to be a lot of big bodies here a lot of people like to look receivers. I'M GONNA Tonio Gandhi golden from liberty. He was down at the senior bowl he played well. What's his forty time going to be if he could run those four fives? That's going to be really solid for him. Denzel if he can run in that those low four fives Van Jefferson. It'd be running the force that would do well for them again very very very deep wide receiver class. I'm a big fan of Brandon I you from Arizona State. He was down in mobile but he had a core issue so we couldn't play. He should be training at combine. Now WanNa see what he runs as well because a lot of these bigger body. I mean Jason Garrett like those X. Receivers people bringing that up lot you gotTa Chase Klay. Pool is going to be down there from Notre Dame. He's another really big body about a biscuit away from being a tight end I think if he wants more in the four five that would do him well to all right so what I did want to ask you. You mentioned the fact that you were down in mobile at the senior bowl now. The senior bowl practice week and what we see at the combine are vastly different at the combine. We see guys in you know in shorts and t shirts we see guys running drills we see guys being tested purely on various forms of athleticism at senior bowl. We see a whole lot more one on one blocking drills one on one receiver versus cornerback kinds of drills with for you as an evaluator for you..

"Right giants fans were back here on the Valentine's views podcast. Ed Valentine Talking With Patricia Traina about the very very impressive introductory press conference held for Joe Judge on Thursday. Patty one of the things that I really WanNa get into is a little bit of the judge philosophy in a little bit about how I was sort of amazed in in the way that it all worked out in how this dovetails with the way the Dave Gettleman sees the football world. I wrote about about that this morning at at big blue view how Gilman's going to be sixty nine years old in a month you know. He's considered a dinosaur by a lot of people around on the NFL. And yet here you have this thirty eight year old first time interviewee for an NFL head coaching job. He'll be the only head coach in NFL. Starting the two thousand twenty season who has never coached a game as the head head coach at the college or NFL level. And yet these two guys in some ways philosophically seem like clones and it just kind of it just kind of made me chuckle in you know in the long run. I think it's a really good thing. Yeah I think it is too. When you have polar opposites and again we saw that in the latter stages of the Tom Coughlin the era? You're not GonNa get much done when you're going to have strife it's GONNA carry down to the locker room and I it. Just it's not a good setup so I was Kinda glad to see that you get a million people are going to going to say what they want about gettleman and think what they want and they're certainly entitled but you know get them in is. I don't think assistance justice big ogre that some people make him out to be and I'm not just saying that you know and I know people are GonNa say. Oh there goes to Schill No. I'm not saying that I'm giving you my honest list opinion. I'm not saying get omens perfect but I don't think he suspect Ogre I think legitimately and deep down inside. He wants to win because look it's his legacy see if he puts together you know bad football program and doesn't get destroyed doubt he. It's going to go on his name so to work and be cooperative hip and collaborative with the head. Coach is important and I think it's nice. That gettleman who if you remember a couple years ago said well look at my resume resume. He was referencing taking the the panthers that went to the Super Bowl. He's humbled himself and that to me was a step in the right direction. You know it's interesting that you mentioned that Patty because there was one point yesterday when cattleman was speaking to reporters where we're I know that the the off the cuff. The the the sort of jovial friendly gettleman was ready. He to make sort of a throwaway joke and I think a year ago he probably would have done that and I don't know exactly what he would have said but he stopped himself off. Any said I'm not going to give you that throwaway one line. Yeah and that to me was an indication that that it is a little bit different that you know that he has an there were a couple of times but when I thought he was a little different in his approach with the media media that for me was the biggest one. Yeah I agree I think you know. Look he's been burned a few times. He gettleman has always spin and I go back to when he was you know working under reese Or actually under a Coursey. I'm sorry and I remember him. Being Jovial with the throwaway lines and and you know the familiar language and you know some people take it. You know they get offended by hi it. I never did 'cause that's that was his personality. I never had a problem with it and I just think that after getting torched way he has been in the media gettleman is is now being a little bit more cautious in what he says. And you know y y give people something to roast them about. You know I get it I get edit look he got roast once before you know. He had to eat a a nice helping of crow because people through stuff back in his face and you know e e can't have an ego you go in this job and I think that was one of the mistakes gettleman had is that he boasted about his resume and why he was the right man for for the job and so on and so forth and this is you know it's a fundamental fundamental mistake that get them and made it's a what have you done for me lately. Business winning a super bowl or getting to a super bowl two or three years ago means nothing. If the T. me we're putting together today. Only has one four games the season and I think he learned that lesson. I do to Patty. I think we heard that from him yesterday. And you know when you think about going forward forward and building this giants roster you know. I don't think we're going to see this sort of tear down that we saw the first two years with with Pat Shurmur. I think we're going to see something. That's a little more. Let's pick up where we are in and try to go forward. Try to supplement one of the things that it was really as we talk about philosophies meshing and all of that one of the things that was interesting is how both gentlemen and judge talked walked about personnel. How they both talked about not pigeonholing players in not looking at a guy as he's a blocking tight end Dan or he's a cornerback? or He's whatever they both talked about looking at a player as a whole. What is his skill set? What are his physical physical attributes? What how smart is he? What can he do you know? What variety of things can he do? That can help a football all team. So you know I was really encouraged by that Just by the fact that they seem to see personnel the same way I mean. I don't know what kind kind of players or who they'll bring in here in the draft but as we talk about them meshing philosophies. Is that another thing that you picked up on yesterday as well. Oh absolutely again. It's it's all about when you're building a team you have to have people on the same page now. You'RE GONNA have differences of opinions opinions. Absolutely I mean that's what makes the world go round but you don't want it to get to a point where people are now fighting with one another and I think that's that's what they were kind of looking to avoid and I just you kind of get the impression and again it's early. It was technically Joe Judges First Day on the job. So we don't know how things are going to unveil but you got the impression that in the initial meeting stages They hit it off. And that's going to be so important. Moving foward one last thing patty. That really impressed me was judge in talking about assistant coaches in. It's is not necessarily. The teachers versus presenters mark remark. It's the fact that he talked about. Tell me what a player can do. Not what a player can't do and and I'll be honest going all the way back to Tom. Coughlin I always felt like coughlan was was resistant sometimes to using young players. Because of what they couldn't do and I've always thought that that was one of the things that Bill Belichick a chick has done best is taken imperfect players. Figured out what they could do and figured out how to hide what they can't do and and that for me was another really really encouraging thing that I thought I heard judge talk about yesterday. Yeah I agree with that as well as they just I look I mean judge is teacher by trade and if you think about what a good teacher does they develop their students. They encouraged them in the areas in which they are they excel and they minimize what they don't do well and I think back to my own personal experiences growing up I mean I. It was not very good at math Got Better as I went on in my education but in and grammar school I was awful in math but I was really good in English. And righty so. I had a teacher. who basically took that and fostered that an and just kind of encouraged me in that area now as I got older? Obviously I had teachers. So you're saying look it's not that you're bad at math. It's just you had bad teachers in math but you know it's the same principle here you have guys you know. You have a rookies keys. And an older guys who sit there and think that they know what they do best and what. They don't do best. But until they actually have someone believing in them or Developing Ping them sometimes. They learned something about them that they didn't realize was there before. And I think that's what judge and his staff are going to bring out in these players. Well Patty again. Really hopeful day for the giants on Thursday. Just want to let people know that you know I thank thank you for doing my show just a quick note that I did your show as well folks so make sure you check out the Friday edition of locked on giants. It's as well fatty. I know that you're going to continue to churn out content about About the Judge Hiring about the coaching staff and in what might be going and and what might be coming up next anything specific that you will you want to tell people to to look for. Yeah basically I'M GONNA turn my attention to breaking down the roster. I'm going to start looking at free agency. I'm going to start looking at some draft prospects you know normally I in the past. I wouldn't look at the draft until April but you know what I'm starting to scouting academy semester to in the next week as a matter of fact so lot of good stuff I think I'm picking picking up with the tight end evaluation so that's GonNa come in handy and just you know. I'm looking forward to producing content. That follows the model that they teach. You know how sharing that with everybody. Alright Patty thank you very much for spending some time with me today. Giants fans thank you for listening.

"I'm your host Ed Valentine and we can we can dispense with with all of that today's to show a quick hit on the breaking news that ally manning is no longer the giants starting quarterback job now belongs to Daniel Jones Pat Shurmur and the giants made that announcement on Tuesday morning. We all knew that was coming still. It's it's a stunning thing to think that that you know manning's been the quarterback since two thousand and four and really for the first time since then we have a new quarterback in place for the New York giants that the giants have have embraced moving to the future will go to Daniel Jones and we'll see where things go from there to help me help me kind of make sense of this and and break down everything that's going on. Let me bring in Patricia trainor Patty. How are you wow ed. I was hoping for a quiet Tuesday and a busy Wednesday but it looks like we're getting started early. Oh we're getting both both patty. Were getting both say we all knew today was coming at some point and and I think we all knew when Pat Shurmur floated the idea India on Monday that that he wasn't committing to Eli. I think we all knew this was coming and yet it's still what kind of a jarring realization that the Eli Manning era as quarterback is over it really is and now there's no turning back you know this this is Daniel. Jones is shipped. Iran and you know we'll see what happens. I mean the more for sample size. He creates the more you know. We'll we'll be able to determine how successful he'll be but certainly his performance in the preseason his performance and limited time in the week one game all very encouraging signs and like you said it's now his show to run you have any thoughts on the on the more or less quick hook here for Eli Manning on the on the quick decision to go to Jones after only two games. I'm a little surprised I thought ally would get at least four games before. They pulled the hook on him. I thought he would potentially stay in there as long as they had a chance to to be competitive have a chance to be in the playoff hunt and I know people are GonNa snicker when I say that but the reality is is the giants haven't been eliminated and if you you know teams have started out Owen to and I know it's a small sample size but they have turned it around finish strong the giants however they are not just the player or two away they have problems on both sides of the ball defense which they think they're going to be fine. They think that you know with with more reps together that defense is going to gel but really on offense it was time you know as much as we appreciate. Eli As much as we might love him as a quarterback as as a person as a professional he was not in the long term plans of this team and it just didn't make sense if you were GonNa go and revamped the defense and and you know look towards the future there. Why were you holding onto you know the last of the the two thousand and four draft class there on your team and and just not looking ahead at that point? I know that Dave gettleman has has often said you know you can win while you're build or rebuild and I David hates the word rebuild but for me one of the things that I wrote about Tuesday morning at big blue view was that for years it seems seems like the giants have taken half-measures have taken a step here in a step there and not fully embraced. Maybe what what they needed to do to push the organization forward and this finally to me feels like embracing embracing. Okay we understand what we are. We understand that that the future is more important than the present and we just. We have to do everything we can to be ready for that future. Just your thoughts on on that sort of train taught patty. I agree with you at I mean look. Everybody knows who's followed me. Who's read me that I I've defended. Eli and I believe Steve and I will continue to believe that the organization didn't always do him right with personnel decisions with with coaching decisions and what have have you but with that said you know we saw limitations from Eli we saw signs of him starting to decline fine and slow down and it was just you know the guy can't play forever and as much as maybe you'd like to see him play forever. He's just not the same quarterback he was was when he was put Unquote Bitch Eli back in two thousand eleven so it just you know sometimes. You need to shake things up now. Now some and people will say and I know you've said this that the giants should've done this years ago when they swept out you know Tom Coughlin at that time they should have probably made a clean sweep and just started from scratch. I think they you know maybe realized that it was too late to do that or for whatever reasons maybe they didn't feel. They had the the best options available at that time but they finally now have a new. GM They have a new relatively new head coach a new quarterback the giants nights are going to move forward now and they're going to. They're going to take some months this year because you know Jones is GonNa go through. Some growing pains like every rookie does but these are growing pains instead of going to serve this franchise well into the coming years as much as we hate this for Eli Manning. I think you and I have both said that you know over over a period of time. When you stop and you think about it in some ways I mean this is actually an exciting decision decision and in in some ways you know whether the giants win games or lose games or whatever their ultimate record turns out to be this season. I think it adds some excitement to the rest of the season because now we kind of have some growth in some development to look forward to yeah. I think so and you know what's going to be interesting for me. At is the giants as far as I know at least as we record this is going to be the number two quarterback and I'm going to be very interested to see what happens. How giants handle this moving forward because it's kind of like you know ally at this point is a larger than life personality even though he's always been reserved and bland and whatnot but his mere your presence there. I'm just curious to see how they handle it so that Jones doesn't necessarily feel overshadowed by the presence of Manning. I'm sure they have a plan for this but sometimes when you have a a larger than life or a legend behind you just kind of like peering down it can be somewhat intimidating dating and I just think that maybe subconsciously we won't really see the best of the annual Jones until after ally has gone off into the sunset onset patty. That's an interesting point. One of the things that that I've already been asked this morning is in regards to how Eli would react act to this. I expect nothing class from Eli Manning. I expect him to handle this with grace. I expect to see him do what he he can to help Daniel Jones. I don't expect to see him. Make any waves at all. I mean he's he's been a class act for sixteen years now and and I don't expect to see any of that. Change your thoughts on that. Yeah I agree with you. Ally Manning has been a model citizen in the locker room room just model individual. He's never had a bad thing to say about anybody. He's taken I think way more of the the blame that he should because football is a team sport and I think he's got a lot more blame for the giants misfortunes over the years but this is is a guy who has been class act and you know you ask anybody associated with the team behind the scenes they will tell you that manning has always spin the consummate professional. He has answered questions. You know I know in the past. He said look. It's not my job to be. You know the backups coach whatever but he's never withheld information. He's never been a jerk about. It and I don't think you could ask for anything more than than what has brought to that room and what he's going to continue to to that room. I mean book. He's a competitor. I'm sure he's not happy with the decision. I'm sure he does a like or agree with the decision but he's never been about himself. He's always been about the franchise and I don't expect that to change alright patty. I think that with with that said I think will call it a show for today. I think it's a really you know it's. It's just a crazy time. You and I are both be out at the at the facility acidity on Wednesday. I'm sure it's going to be a crazy day with a with a media mob out there so you know get your get your your catcher's this gear on and and get ready to to to deal with the mob. I'm GonNa get a good night's. Sleep tonight at is going to get to bed early. We have an early start tomorrow and you're right. It's going to be a a media crowd. I I'd be shocked if it's not immediate crowd that equals what we have seen in the past for playoff games. Thanks all right Patty. I'll see you there. Thank you very much and thank you for listening. Giants fans will talk to you soon bye the are you.

"I'm your host ed valentine. This show is coming to you on thursday as we await the giants final game of the two thousand and nineteen pre-season and we're going to talk today about about <hes> some of the the roster bubble guy some of the players tonight who who really need to have good games good efforts to <hes> to legitimize demise their shots at making the fifty three man roster and here to help us do that is the always knowledgeable always informative patricia train patty how you doing hey ed. How's it going. It's good it's good finally <hes> we have come to the end of the preseason been a long long haul all her yeah. It's been what six weeks five weeks something like that. You know time flies when you're having fun but now we're finally going to get <hes> in a couple of days. We're going to get some answers as to who's on the roster. Who's not and what does coaching staff implant coaching coaching staff plans to do moving forward. That's right the deadline for setting the initial. I won't say final because we know that that changes almost soon as it set the initial fifty three man roster deadline is saturday at four o'clock eastern time so let's talk about some of the players going into tonight's game in new england who really need to have good games in order to in order to to have a legitimate shot at making a fifty three man roster and we'll talk about offense. I and i don't know about you patty but i keep going back and forth on the whole quarterback thing and i'm just not sure how many guys they're going to keep. I've i've said all along that they're going to keep three you know but i i still think there's a possibility considering other roster needs that they'll keep to but for me the guy at at quarterback who really needs to have a good game to still convince the giants that <hes> that he deserves a roster spot is kyle lolita yeah i had been going back and forth as well with this but here's how i see it at you know the more i think about it. I think the more sense it makes for them to keep to on the roster and that'll be ally manning and daniel jones jones of course being the young guy that they're going to continue to develop and get him ready for the eventual starting assignment limit but i think they're going to try and slip kyle letta onto the practice squad so that's how they're gonna keep the three that pat shurmur generally likes to keep but you know they're going to see me. I think you're going to try and see if they can get well. Let a to the practice squad <hes> so this way they can use that extra roster spot that they a ordinarily would have given to a third quarterback at another position where they're going to probably need to carry an extra player that makes sense to me patty because they have have injuries and they have a couple of positions where they've also had guys who are are really impressive who to this point. I haven't been able to figure out how to put them on the roster but let's let's talk about <hes> another position talk about running back in the guy from me that i really like aac paul perkins but i think it's been an uphill battle for him. You know in that fight for a backup spot at running back and i'm not sure that he can win that battle even if he has a good game tonight yeah. I think the big thing with paul perkins is i don't believe he is a core special teamer dr whereas rod smith is now rod smith as we know is dealing with an abductor injury but here's the thing if it's not a serious reese injury and it doesn't look like it's a serious injury you carry the guy and and you say okay even if he's if i had deactivate him for a couple of weeks chances czar. He probably wasn't going to get any carries anyhow you figure if you know barclay's going to get the the bulk of the work at running back wayne gaughman will spell him every once in a while and you may a._c._h..

"Continue to play if and when they fall out of contention or if they get off to a one six start like they did last year one and seven you start then there's no reason for many to play the knee simply have to go to jones and i think that's i think that's how it's gonna go comas. The giants consider themselves go to be a playoff contending team today with you like talking with ed valentine of big blue view and the valentine's view podcast part of the s._p. Nation family of podcasts which <hes> this podcast is part of as well good to have ed with us talking about the quote unquote dress rehearsal coming up here <hes> ed. It's it's really difficult to kind of. Sit here and talk about you know. What are you looking to see out of out of a preseason game. I mean obviously you wanna see the lower end depth chart guys you wanna see who maybe make some place to <hes> make kamenica rosser bid but these teams are kind of in a lot of people's is in a similar boat but potential rebuild coach early if not starting their new tenure with the team <hes> you know a lot of some veterans that are maybe on the hot seat a little bit so mean i guess what what are giants fans hoping you too and the giants themselves what what are they hoping to take away from this game because obviously the wins and losses don't truly matter in the summer but what are they looking to really achieve or take away aside from staying pretty healthy well. I think you always want in whatever limited fashion your starters play. You want to see something. That looks like competent football. Something gives you confidence going forward forward for example in the opening preseason game for the giants. Starting offense in the starting defense basically played one. You're you're on offense. The giants went three and out in on defense. The evil belong driving touchdown last last friday against the bears same scenario where the offense basically plate one series the defense played a little bit longer than that but but you gotta touchdown drive out of the offense and you've got a stop for a field goal you know out of the defense so so you saw you saw some better play. You saw some competent play and i think that's that's all you want. Out of. Your starters is something that looks like incompetent play but for me at this point won't be what tomorrow night will be nine days away from teams having to set their fifty three man dan rosters so it's all about looking for those guys at the end of the roster. You know those guys. Every teams got bobo players. Every tamed got decisions to make every teams looking for help across the league so for me. It's all about those guys who are going to win. Those last year roster spots you know one player on either side of the ball that bengal span should keep out for me. Not just off color has john roster. Who who is that guy in order to be name name no more for tomorrow night well. I don't know if i don't know if it's a guy that's exactly what you're you're talking about here but the guy that i think anyone across the n._f._l. Should probably be aware of at this point. What is cory ballantyne. The sixth round pick out washburn. If you know his story the giants drafted him in the sixth round. You went out that night with sprint twain simmons and they were victims of a drive by shooting in which ballantine was hurt. His friend simmons was was killed and this kid since he came back and since he rejoined the team this kid has done nothing nothing but shown class in the way that he handled himself in the way that he stood in front of the media and explained what happened you know he's tried to move forward and right now the amazing thing about this he he's not a sixth round draft pick he. He doesn't look anything like a six round draft..

"We have ed valentine from from big blue view there. Hey good <hes> we're doing. We're doing well. It's anthony kazan's on my co host john sharon so hopefully breath. You can hear us both pretty well. It's great to have you with us. Let's just let's just dive right into it. The bengals host the giants coming up here in the dress rehearsal. You and i have kind of engaged in conversations behind the scenes. <hes> i guess we gotta start here because there are some sour feelings about two particular other players potentially from both sides of the fence john jerry and bobby hart <hes>. I asked you this in a post. You graciously helped us out with the the the five questions but i'd love to hear you kinda verbalize potentially some positives from those players that bengals could maybe latch onto because those those guys seem to be having inside track to the left guard spot starting spot and the right tackle starting spot for the bengals. It's funny you have mentioned to you in some other forums. I can't jerry is not a bad n._f._l. Spell player all right at least he wasn't. I mean he's been out of the league krieger. I don't know why he couldn't find a job as backup somewhere a year ago. After after the giants moved on from him jerry started for the giants for at least four years. He's a decent n._f._l. Oh guard or at least he was he's. He's a decent pass blocker not a very good run blocker. He's a guy that that you know stays pretty quiet in the locker room. He's a pro. He's you know he's the guy that that. I don't have a problem with this. You know he just as the the giants developed their offensive line they they wanted better run blocking. They wanted more athleticism and they moved on from jerry but i i don't have. I don't have any issues with him as an n._f._l. Player i think the guy that that giants fans have issues with bobby hard for the simple reason that that in two thousand seventeen bobby heart good in front of me in in training camp and made the claim that he was the best rate tackling football out lost his job after six or seven games ask and by the end of the city didn't wanna play he he refused to practice or suit up for the for the final game of the season and and and got himself cut so giants fans have issues with v._r. So those are the only guys the bengals for your of guys and actually defensive coach this off season when the bengals hired lou interim defensive coordinator and assigned b._w._i. Which of those guys were youth johnston more about <hes> t money of things it to carry win by far kerry. Win is a guy that kyrie win plays really hard. He came to the giants. I think in two thousand wasn't fourteen as an undrafted free aging and you kept sort of looking at this guy and thinking. How does he make a roster every year because he's not all that talented allen did. There's nothing special about him. The only thing special about kerry winning hearts plays p plays really hard. He does anything anything you ask him to do. You'll play special teams and do a really good job of it is one of those guy that he's not going to star for. You not gonna put a ten but you're gonna put him on the field and he's going to give you effort. He's gonna give you everything that he has and for a backup guy. That's playing fifteen fifteen or twenty snaps in a game. You'll know what he's doing any gives you effort and you can't have curl more than that so for me by far it it carry win. I think he's a guy that bengals fans will like talking with valentine of big blue view and the valentine's view podcast. I was privileged enough to be a part of that. Both this podcast and ed's podcast are part of the s._b._a. "I'm your host Ed Valentine of Big Blue View in today's show we are going to be discussing the continuation of giants training camp as is the giants prepare for the two thousand in nineteen season. We will also have a special guest for you as we will be joined in a little bit by by a good friend of big blue view Dave t thomas who is a long-time n._F._l.. Scout Director of Scouting Services Mrs Inc and has done work at the N._F._l.. Draft Report. You've seen some of his work here at big blue view over the years as Dave has been kind enough to share some scouting reports with us. Some of his draft related information Dave t is always entertaining A. and Informative and I'm sure that you'll enjoy listening to him when we get to the interview that he and I recorded in just a little bit all right I though a a couple of thoughts on Tuesdays giants practice I was not in attendance today in East Rutherford but but sounded like Eli Manning had a nice day sounded like rookie quarterback. Daniel Jones had a little bump in the road today little bit up and down those things though are to be expected expected as the young man develops no big deal nothing to be alarmed about today at Big Blue View. You'll find stories on Eli Manning hang on what he said. When he met the media on Tuesday morning also a nice story on Dexter Lawrence he also met the media dexter of of course is playing defensive end seventeenth overall pick little bit surprising to some that he's being used as an end and not as a nose tackle that particular the topic is addressed in the story and also some information on how he's doing and how he's developing as a pass rusher speaking of pass rush rush? I also had an opportunity to speak with former Arizona cardinals edge rusher marcus golden who is now with the giants on a one one year prove it deal gold and told me that he is healthy looking forward to the two thousand in nineteen season and still believes that he can return to his two thousand and sixteen twelve and a half sack form now that he's another year removed from the surgery he had in two thousand thousand seventeen for the torn A._C._l.. that he suffered also wanted to mention those of you who listen to the podcast that Dan Poodle and Chris Phlegm have been doing here on Biglou view radio those of you who listen to that already know that that Dan is moving on from big blue view..

"Your home near content you see a life studying interior team, Ed Valentine managing editor, DV gone. Oh man. R J is as as much as we get along. You always you always liked to throw in a little dig their, you know. But, but I'll, I'll let that go, we do get along. It's, you know, believe it or not Cowboys fans and giants fans you know, we can manage to get along. So there is that, you know, and we do have that, that come, and EMMY in Philly that wears green. Yeah. So just, just as an aside, our J before we get. Into our topic today. It is amazing to me how no matter who I'm talking to from whatever team I'm talking to the conversation. Always manages to turn around or come around to hell lousy eagles fans are. It's one of those things it's like people used to say like everybody is six two days away from Kevin bacon. Like, in terms of life, for, or whatever we're all every conversation in the world is six degrees away from discovering. The eagles fans are the most vile. I say that, by the way, you and I were talking on Tuesday, this is going to drop on Wednesday. I just made an appearance on BGN radio. So I feel kinda bad trashing than well. No, no, no. You're, you're, you're fortunate that you that, that we're doing this now. And you've done your BGN already if you're fortunate because, you know, then then you'd have to you'd have to defend yourself. I just had Lindsay Jones of the athletes, gray the big view podcast, and we're talking about NFL training camps. In the fact that teams so often or so many teams don't involve fans as much as they used to. She lauded. The Cowboys incidentally for, for how fan-friendly their you know, their training camp is, but I had to twist the knife on Lindsey because she actually made the mistake of in, in a recent column predicting that the New York Jets would win a Super Bowl before the giant another Super Bowl and I just I just couldn't let that go. I don't blame you for that. Certainly that's that's too far. You know, there's a line and Lindsey cross. And I said, I said, you just can't do that. Yeah, you're right, though. I'll be at a training camp in pink, like five weeks issue hours. Go for a week in your ride, and Lindsay's. Right. It's so fan-friendly and it does help that you're in California. You know, the practices are at three PM Kelly time, and it feels great. You know, the sun is beating on you, but you really don't notice it just because of the weather. It's, it's an overall spectacular environment. How is giants training camp? For people that don't know giants training camp. I started covering giants training camp in two thousand seven to two thousand eight and giants training camp used to be in Albany, New York, which is twenty minutes away from my house, on a college campus, university of all Binnie. And it was it was great because they had five fields there could sit in the grass, they could bread blankets out on a lot of the fields. The only thing separating fans from the team was like a little three foot high wouldn't, you know, wouldn't pick it fence kind of thing you know, people in and players had to walk through what they used to call autograph alley, where to get in and out of practice everyday they had to walk through the fans. That's it. And that was really cool. You know, they used to stay in Albany, they'd be out in the community every night. So. So now training camp is at their facility in East Rutherford. And I get it because they have three and a half practice fields there. They have an indoor bubble. "One of the more interesting teams entering the NFL draft is the giants. Let's chat some giants football with Ed Valentine from big blue view in fall at big blue view on Twitter at big blue view. Ed. Thank you so much things time this one, and we really appreciate it. Thank you for having you anytime. So before we get into the draft stuff. Ed, this is one of the more fascinating teams in the NFL right now. What do you make of this back and forth between Dave Gettleman who said, they don't have a culture preventing more there in New York and Oto Beckham junior come into the defense on Twitter saying, I'm not a cancer to team in less. We're bad ask my teammates. What'd you make of that back and forth? Well, I I've been waiting for that shoot a drop to tell you the truth because Beckham wasn't gonna be silent forever. I mean, I look at hotel. And and and he's gonna like the Chiltern low right now, you know, he didn't want to go. And of course, he's going to take some shots at cattleman. And I don't know that all the things get said were directed at oakdale. I think he was included in some of that. But but yeah, I not surprised to Bill taking some shots at at at Gettleman. I just kind of wondered how long would take him to get around to that the question I would have about going back to the Odell Beckham junior trade is based on something that Dave got them and said recently where he said he still thinks that he lied manning is a lot left in the tank. So I would ask you if he actually believes which I quite frankly, don't believe, but if he believes that he has a lot left in the tank, why would he trade away one of the top three receivers in the NFL? If he still believes allies the guy. I think that the way he would explain it. I think that you know, what what the giants fell. I think. I think they were very very unhappy with Odell after eighteen him all that money. Last your you know, that that he went ESPN and sit some of the things about meeting day. Instead, some of the things about New York City. They said. Don't go throw your quarterback under the bus, and basically say you don't like to city when team just handed to ninety five million dollars. And you know, what for you know, what franchise playing for and what quarterback you're playing for in. And I think that that the giants just note like what like they just didn't want to deal with with Dell anymore and in other way, gentleman put it was they turned they turned one really good asset into what they hope will be three good assets. And I think that's that's where they are. They're still building, you know. And that wasn't gonna win a championship. I think is the way they felt about it. So let's turn it into multiple assets. And see if we can do better. Chan with Ed Valentine from big blue view. All right. So now, everybody's going back and forth. And what the giants are going to do with this six picks. We've heard they don't like Dwayne Haskins. Now, they do like twain Haskins. You don't really know what's going on there. And what do you think they're going to do with that six pick? Oh, good question. The crazy thing is I I think there's one of two things that could happen here. I think there are couple of defense of players that Dave Gettleman would really really love to see all the number six. I think if someone like the one that I keep coming back to its Quinton Williams defensive tackle from Alabama gave Clinton Williams somehow manages to fall to number six. And who knows if the jets the jets trade out at number three? In oakland. Does something crazy at number four, you know, that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock would never do anything insane. So if something crazy happens in Queen Williams, the number six, I think that Dave Gettleman will will take quitting Williams. No matter who else is there is if you know one of those guys quitting Williams. Josh Allen isn't sitting narrate numbers fix. I Jones as much as the draft Twitter thinks insane. I he might just take Jones. And and and you know, take quarterback and move on. Okay. So if that does happen and Daniel Jones most people have them rank either as third of the fourth prospect in this draft in terms of the quarterback position. So Ed if that does happen and last year, of course, we know and giants fans, of course, no that they decided to pass on Sam darnold to take the running back and saquon Barkley, and they passed on the other quarterbacks in that draft, you they could've had and Rosen or Alan how do you think it'll be perceived there in New York if they end up with six pick with Daniel Jones considering all the other chances they've had at quarterbacks over the past few years. I basically think that there will be a lot of free moats thrown it a lot of television. I I don't know. I don't know in the end if if they do that. All right. I think people will stomach it better. If they take him, let's say, they don't take him and six, and and maybe they trade up and take him at eleven or twelve or he falls to seventeen and they take Jones. I think people might stomach that a little bit better. Even if he's not there their Cup of tea as as their quarterback of choice in this strapped. But if he if he take Jones at six, I think there's going to be just a section of giants fans just going to be absolutely up in arms that Valentine from big blue. That's part of nation. Fo- big blue view on Twitter at big blue view. Okay. So what is it that the giants like more about Daniel Jones than say Dwayne Haskins because the perception from everybody else's that Haskins is the better player. I understand there is the relationship with David cut cliff who coach ally and whatnot. But what is it? The giants organizationally like more about Jones than Haskins. Well, again, we're we're sort of you know, we're sort of reading pain leaves here and piecing things together. And I think, you know, some of the cut cliff connection some of the fact that that already has a relationship with ally manning, and he's worked with ally at the passing cat Amies. And and things like that. Some of that plays into it. I, you know, it's interesting because I think that that NFL like general managers and scouts and people inside the NFL light gang Jones, a whole lot more than people outside the NFL to. And then you're you're drafting that you read on on media websites and all of that. It's interesting. It's gonna be interesting to see who who gets proven right in the long run. I think part of it to be honest. Dave cattleman is he don't give them a traditionalist. She's an older general manager, I think Daniel Jones because of his similarities to ally manning and a lot of ways. A little bit more mobile. Obviously moves a little better. He's he's obviously younger I think Daniel Jones just make the gentleman comfortable. I think the fact that he's got, you know, more experienced than a dialect cash in. I I I honestly think that it comes down to comfort level. And when you look at it at where the other places the giants are going to go after that six pick and seventeen we know quarterback and edge rusher. Two things they're looking for. But where are the other areas they need to upgrade throat this draft? If you look at it. They have to up create defensively and everybody focuses on edge rusher. But you can look all through that defense. You can look at cornerback. You can look at interior defensive line Depp. If they can find. Cover you know, that would be good if they can find a free safety to learn from Antoine buffet. That would be good. They obviously could use enough into tackle they could use a wide receiver. So there's a lot of ways that they can go, but I think that their primary focus other than other than quarterback if they choose to go that way, the primary focus has got to be in collecting some defensive talent regardless of position. Hey, Ed before we let you go. I'm interested because we saw that they signed golden Tate to that thirty seven and a half million dollar deal. They brought back sterling Shepard they made the trade in the off season for getting rid of Livia Vernon bringing in Zeitler to help out lie in that offensive line. And they say all this stuff about he li- how they still think there's a lot left in the tank to the giants believe that they're close to getting back in the postseason organizationally is our they add today think they're just. A few steps away from gang like a legitimate contender in the division. Again. I I think that they understand that. They're roster isn't what you would call a championship caliber roster at this point. I think they know what sort of hole they have. I think they're in that position where they would like to sort of Neak into tournament, you know, win nine games, maybe ten games and and sneak into the playoffs. They don't want. They don't want to be one of these. They don't wanna go three and thirteen or five and eleven every year. They don't wanna blow everything up, and and take this as in, you know, and so people were going to be terrible that, but I think they understand that they have a ways to go to get back to that that top level him. But they'd like to take like to think that if that if things go right for them. They can win nineteen and sneak into the playoffs. I think is where they really are. Are. All right. Ed. Thank you so much for the time today and have fun on Thursday night. Because I can't imagine having a better team to cover on draft night than the New York Giants with six and the seventeenth pick. And all that could happen with Dave Gettleman motive acts. It's awesome. Unpredictable in the NFL thing. No doubt about it. That's F Valentine from big blue view, it's part of being nation. "And then if he's actually on the football team, and then the football team moves, I mean, what an unbelievable story that would be from various perspective. These are the same fans that you didn't go to play baseball for and I get it. In most cases, nobody knows their minor league players, right? Like, most fans can't tell you. Hey, this is who the Diamondbacks drafted in the first round last year, or you know, this is who the. Brewers drafted in the first round last year. But everybody knows who the as drafted last year on the first round because it's kinda Murray. So they felt they were getting this star. Even though his baseball ranking if you will wasn't as high as football ranking there was a lot of scouts that were lower Nkala Murray, then were the Oakland A's, but the Oakland fans have got to be like, wait. So all we're gonna get this guy is for year. That's gotta suck. If you're a fan of Oakland. But I do want to see him go to the raiders and see what he's like Jon Gruden. I don't wanna see him plan. Zona? I don't trust the Zona is going to coach him up the right way. I don't trust that they're going to put the proper offensive line around him to help him grow as a player because they didn't do it to Josh Rosen. I don't wanna see column go to Arizona, and it'd be a failure there. Now, I'm not saying it's a hundred percent going to be a failure. But I would just like to see him be in a place that it's a better story. The raiders are better story because they're the raiders there a national brand they're moving they have Antonio Brown. They have Derek Carr. What happens with Derek Carr? C the other thing with the raiders they take. Murray, if he's sticks around until the fourth BIC, then you have the question of what's going to happen car? Because now we know that Josh Rosen's on the market, but at the raiders really are infatuated with Murray because we know that Jon Gruden internally it's been reported that he isn't super crazy about Derek Carr that brings a whole new wrinkle into the draft right because if Derek cars on the market, then you have teams calling the raiders about Derek Carr. That would be fascinating to watch on draft night. If it's not Josh Rosen. The one that's up there in terms of the trades. But if it's actually Derek Carr that would be awesome. A lot more to get into including the history of these first round quarterbacks which ones do we think in this draft will actually work out which ones we'll be failures compared to what we've seen in recent history and moral chat with Ed Valentine from big blue view. We'll try to get ED's opinion. He covers the giants. Of course, what the hell. Are they going to do at six and seventeen they've been great. I put up smokescreens, but we actually believe that Dave Gettleman can make the right selection. We'll get to that. You're listening to Brian Barrett on radio..

"Been in for Alex gold here on the gold standard and L Beckham junior is certainly the biggest story in sports right now. The giants, of course, delta away to the Cleveland Browns yesterday that deal became official at four PM eastern earlier today and the aftermath in the ramifications of that deal remained large for the New York Giants. Now joining us here on our SP nation radio. Guests hotline, the talk all things big blue is nations own big blue view, founder and writer at Ballantyne. Ed, we appreciate your time today. Matt how are you? I'm good. Thanks for having me. Absolutely. So I'll ask you this to start things off. I mean now you've had a day to kind of look at the details over the trade and kind of process. How it unfolded? What are your thoughts on the giants decision here to get rid of OBGYN? Well, I'm still like a lot of other people. I'm still, you know, pretty stunned that were here at this point weird so much so much chatter lately that things might happen. But even you know up until you know, a little bit more than twenty four hours ago. What we were what we were hearing was people might be calling. But the giants aren't really putting Beckham on the market. And the next thing, you know, he's he's a Cleveland Brown. So it's it's a stunning development. It finally for the giants isn't a mission that they're that. They're in a rebuild that they have to start over. That, you know, from their perspective, the relationship with Odell just wasn't going to work, you know. And and you know, and now we see if if Dave Gettleman can put this back together. I mean at how did we get to this place where a year ago, Dave Gettleman and the giants they gave OB J the biggest contract ever given out to a wide receiver. And here we are a year later, and you know, without any notice a just like that obe- Jay is now no longer on this team. The giants are moving on. I mean, how did we get to this point? And and kind of what is the sense of direction now for this giants team? Well, you know there there's two different questions there. How did we get here? You know, the the sense that I had even when the giants gave Beckham, you know, the the mega contract that they gave him the sense that that I that I had was that they gave him that money. But they weren't a hundred percent certain that that was a great idea. They had a new coach and new GM. And they didn't really want to blow things up right from the beginning. I think they just kinda help their breast, you know, that things would work out, and, you know, from their perspective, they haven't, you know, Odell you took the money from the giants. Then he then he went on ESPN, and he basically threw manning under the bus, and you know, he kind of hinted that well, you know, I got all this money. But but maybe I don't really like New York all that much. You know? And and so I think you right away. There was this whole, you know, why did we sign this guy? You know, we we did he sell us a Bill of goods just to get the money, you know. And then I what I heard today was there was some there was some disagreement over how badly hurt he was at the end of the season when he missed a few games with a quad injury. So I just think there wasn't really a there was a lack of trust to there between the two sides. I think Ed Valentine with us here on ESPN radio Espy nations. Big blue view is your nonstop resource for all things New York Giants football. And you mentioned obviously that there could have been some sort of issue between the giants and Beckham you alluded. You of course, the ESPN interview where he threw Eli under the bus. I mean, you know, my biggest thing with the giants is they knew what OB Jay was. They knew the type of player that he was. And they knew what they were signing up for. To me just to change directions a year after you took a running back with the second pick. And here they are you know, a year later trading away their best player on offense. I it just to me what the direction or the misdirection. The giants have been going in the last year or so just doesn't seem like there's there's a clear plan in place. Well, it's a bad. Look, there's no doubt about that. If they were going to do this. If they were going to move on from Beckham, you know, the the clean time the right time to do. It was probably before they gave him that make it contract. I mean, if nothing else I mean that avoid that would have avoided all the money that they spent in the big dead money hit they're going to take on their salary cap this year. So it doesn't seem to make sense, you know, in a lot of ways because the timing is just weird. I mean, I had this idea that I didn't really think that Beckham was gonna finish the five year contract with the giants. I thought at some point. You know, the the relationship would would go south, and and they would part ways. But I just didn't think it was going to happen now. So the question is he you talk about gentlemen, not having a plan. And he's heard the talk because he addressed it today in his statement on Odell. He's heard the talk that he doesn't have a plan. He says he does he says accumulating all of these draft picks think the giants have two first round picks. Now, they have twelve fixed this year. They have nine picks in two thousand twenty you know, he said that's all part of the plan. The question right now is okay. They've torn it down. Can he put it back together? If he can put it back together if he can build a winning team, then he comes out of this looking good if they flounder for the next five years and turn into a disaster. You know, then then he's gonna wind up looking like a fool. Do you think they got enough in return for oboe backup junior the first third, and of course, Djibril peppers was the player in that deal as well? You know, it's hard to say I mean because I think there was some consideration that that. Yeah. I heard you know, people talking about oh, it's going to take two first round draft picks. And it's going to take this. I never really thought someone would give up two first round draft picks for Odell Beckham. But but really I thought if they were going to take a first round pick. I thought they'd be looking for one in the top part of the draft in the top ten, you know, maybe something like I think San Francisco is has been number two over all pick in the draft. I thought maybe that would be what they would target. So I was a little bit a little bit taken aback that they took the seventeenth overall pick as their highest pick. But they seem happy with it. They seem to feel like that was the best offer they had. And I think there was your think there was some trepidation that if they let this go that they would eventually wind up with an Antonio Brown situation. Spending a few minutes here over the phone on espionage in radio with Ed Valentine, you can get him on Twitter at Ballantyne underscore, add covers the giants for Espy nations, big blue view, and of course, now with OB J, Al. The question now becomes well. What are the giants do from here specifically, you know, what is the future of Eli manning, you know, playing quarterback for this team? So Ed, I mean, if you could kinda prognosticate how you see this year on folding for you lie in what is he future with big blue? Well, it's interesting because I know there was any SPN report. Earlier today that the giants are planning to stick with ally for two thousand nineteen I know that the giants have talked about this Kansas City model of having you I mentor young quarterback for year and then turning things over. But what I'm really interested in is E Y. Manning has a roster bonus due in a few days on March seventeenth, I'm interested at this point that's five million dollars. And I'm interested to see if the giants actually pay it because that's when we're gonna know if they're actually going to move forward with you I for for the upcoming season, or whether they're gonna make another plan for, you know, for for two thousand nineteen right now, you know, right now if it's not Eli they don't have a quarterback. So so right now, you have to think that that unless a plan b shows up in the next couple of days. That they don't have much choice. Do you think they consider maybe a trade for Josh Rosen? If Arizona does indeed decided to take Callum number one. Well, I'll answer that this way the more. I think about that the more I like that idea especially because the price tag that you here for Josh Rosen is basically a second round pick. If you can use the sixth overall pick in the seventeenth overall pick on whoever you consider to be the best players then turn around and get Josh Rosen for your second round pick. Then you've done something here. You know, you've you've managed to get your quarterback of the future and get two first round picks in that looks like something you the question is I don't know if the giants like Josh Rosen enough to do that. He makes sense on paper. It makes sense to me. It seems like a good direction. I just. I don't know if they like the player enough and Valentine our guest here on ESPN radio. Jake has been filling in for Alex gold tonight on the gold standard and add. We can end with this. You know, if you were able to get Dave Gettleman some truth serum here, and you ask them. Hey, do you regret taking saquon Barkley over Sam darnold our year later, you get on them would admit that taken Barkley as great as he is talented and a specialist. It was mistake not going quarterback and really starting to rebuild around darnold a year ago. I don't think you'll ever get Gettleman to say that he he loves the player. Go back to to last year. He said, you know, Berkeley's one of only two players with Peyton Manning being the other one that that he ever gave a perfect grade to in his scouting report. I don't think Gettleman feels that way you, but it's easy. It's easy to make that conclusion because. Quarterback is still more valuable than running back. No matter how you cut it. No matter how great the running back is. And if the giants don't solve this quarterback situation. They'll never get out of saquon Barkley what they should be able to get and Valentine has been our guest. You could follow him on Twitter at Balentine underscore does a great job covering the New York. Giants raspy nations big blue view, great gained a chance to catch up with you here. "You know, regardless of whether he's there to open the two thousand nineteen sees. Or not it's as obvious as can be that the giants are pointed toward the future. End at that future is not going to include manning at as the quarterback for a whole lot longer. Yeah. I think that's how it's shaping up. I really do. And by the way, just a little FYI. I -ean Rappaport rap sheet at the NFL network just happened to put out a tweet just a few minutes ago saying that Odell saw Antonio Brown receive added money without adding New Year's upon being traded to the raiders. And that his understanding that being rap sheets is that old L wants the same thing from the Brown. So Dell or reportedly already looking for a raise from the Browns following the trade. No surprise there. Patty. I, you know, of course, he's going to angle to try to get something. You know, let's actually talk about Odell for just a minute. You were the first one months and months ago who raised the idea after Odell Beckham signed his five-year ninety million dollar deal with the giants. You were the first one to raise the the notion that there was basically. Chance he was ever gonna finish that five year deal with the giants in the more. I thought about it in the more. I looked at it in the more. I saw the different sorts of distractions and things that happened. I came to agree with you. But I didn't think it was going to happen now despite all the smoke that had been that had been floating around didn't think it was going to happen. Now. I thought the giants might try as long as they still had ally that they might go one more year try to make it work try to, you know, while they were transitioning, but you know, I guess Gettleman was happy with this price in he wants to to to to start that rebuild. Now. I'm just I think we knew that the end would come for ode L. I just didn't think it was going to come. Now. I didn't think it was going to come now either. But with that said, Ed the giants have. A lot of holes on defense. Stay have a few holes also on offense that they have to fix, you know, they're not gonna fix everything. This this year, they're going to fix a lot of things. But I don't think they'll fix everything. So I guess, you know, I don't know what the tipping point is. We have obviously heard from the giants. They haven't even announced a trade they can announce until four one pm on Wednesday. But you know, ultimately, you know, it's going to be interesting to hear what Gettleman has to say. I'm sure when the press release does come out they'll be a statement from him in there. And I'm curious to see what he has to say about it. Especially after you know, saying we didn't sign him to train them, which by the way, I took to mean that we're not intending to trade, but we could still trade him. If circumstances allowed for it. I took it the same way Patty, and one of the things that I wrote a little bit earlier this evening at big blue view was. Was we've heard you know, we hear a lot of of things from from gentlemen in. There are certain statements are certain things that he tends to lean on one of the things that he one of the the beliefs that he leans into quite a bit is that you don't give up on talent another one of the beliefs that he leans into an he leaned into really heavily when we spoke to him at the combine was this idea that a general manager's job is to eliminate distractions. And if for a while you've wondered, okay, well, those two things, you know, aren't necessarily they don't necessarily work hand in hand. So push comes to show, which one wins. And I think in the end we found out which one wins in his. His mind. Yeah. I mean, look he talks about how everything he does is designed to send a message to that locker room. Right. So, you know, Dell a talented player, and you know, he gave them an also spoke about the whole question..

You know, I know I apologize homeless Twitter followers. I had not had a chance to really look at the my mentions. I know there's a lot of people who are upset who are asking. Why what the heck is going on? Whether the giants doing an Ed I just want to mention a couple of things that I put in that article just just for what it's worth number one. I think given the hall that the giant Scott, and for those who don't who haven't heard they not only got safety Gibril peppers, which you know, the bills need it. Also gives them the Browns first round pick, which is number seventeen overall. And the second of the Browns to third round picks, which I believe is number ninety six overall. I don't know about she wed. But I have a feeling that quarterback. Now becomes in play for the giants. I kept saying before the giants made this trade that I thought it would be a pass rusher. At number six. I didn't see quarterback being in play. Now. Think quarterback might be play with this extra. You know, first round pick in and disturb round pick, absolutely, Patty..
