"I'm Ed Torrence, news ninety six point five WDBO joined in studio by Christopher heath channel nine eyewitness news, political and investigative reporter, and we had a discussion earlier this morning, Chris of. Out different ways to pay for our crumbling roads and bridges. And we did get a lot of reaction to that. I think a much more simple, much more realistic idea would be a half percent. Additional tax on the celebrate goals. And this, of course, crisos triggered, by our discussion about the, the conversation you have with, with a US congressman about your represents a central Florida. You know, listen, he's, he's kind of trying to get ahead of the curve here because the fact of the matter is the gas tax is just not keeping up. And we've had this discussion whether we're talking toll roads or the new toll lanes. They're putting on I four. Roads and highways aren't free, if we want to continue to have them. We wanted to continue have them pave. We've gotta find a way to pay for them. I don't even that open mic suggested. If we just add another half sense to the gas tax that's not going to solve the problem because for a lot of people, eventually want to see us all driving electric vehicles electric or hybrid, getting fifty miles to the gallon. You're driving fifty miles and doing fifty miles of damage to the roads, but you're using a lot less fuel than you used to. So, you know, the idea being that we need to start having this conversation and taking a hard look. And we're going to have a story today on channel nine eyewitness news at five forty five on this kind of looking at what are the options out there? Because if we say, okay, we'll know what we'll keep it the way it is. Eventually we're going to run out of money for new roads. And the infrastructure is already starting to crumble, a lot of the projects that were built after the Eisenhower administration are now falling apart and we've got to try and keep this up. And if we just say, well, no, the gas taxes fine. No, it's not. We'll be we need to find new ways to do this, and the conversation has to be held. How do we go about that? Yeah. I would like to think that we can all agree that the gas tax ain't gonna work into the future, where we'll disagree is, is what's replace it with you could have when your vehicle gets inspected. They check your dominant and then that gets remitted there could be some sort of passive Odom eter, you know, system that it doesn't necessarily track the movement of your vehicle. But it does track your mileage, these things are all possibilities and listen, none of it's set in stone. These are ideas that need to be floated around and conversations that have to be had. Because again, we can, we can start tolling everything putting toll stations everywhere. Now, everybody has to have a transponder in their car or their license plate is going to be you. Every time you go through a toll booth. It's going to be pictures taken if you don't want to go with that we continue to raise the gas tax. But again, that's past the point of mission return. So how do we go about this? And, you know, how do we say okay, we're going to have to continue to build and pave and maintain roads. How? Are we going to pay for it because we can't just not do it? That'll be on tonight at five forty five on channel nine eyewitness news..

"I'm Ed Torrence, news ninety six point five WDBO going to go in depth ABC's. Jim Ryan is joining us this morning from Texas. And Jim we're told now that the president has authorized or ordered more US troops to the border. Tell us about that. Yeah. Well last week we were talking Joe news about two thousand troops over there. We thought would be sat down there that we know that the number is more like three thousand seven hundred fifty about double what we looking at previously. They will be sent down in the next couple of weeks toward mid is the expectation at this point show. And again, this deployment will last until the end of September. They're already about what twenty three hundred and fifty active duty troops along the borders at Texas, Arizona, California, you've also got of course, about twenty two hundred national guard troops who are almost to constantly focus there, and and deployed to that section of the country. They're doing things in in support of customs and border protection. Stringing concertina wire and running surveillance there. Also, be a special surveillance vehicle being sent down there. This time. I remember Jim that when these troops were first sent down to the border. It was rather controversial I guess that was because we're in the midterm elections because it doesn't seem to be a whole lot of controversy surrounding it. Now. Well, I know you're right. There's always a political backdrop to stuff like this. We also have the state of the union address coming up in the president will make immigration and illegal immigration, border control, the focus of that state of the union address. He's already said so you may also still declare a national emergency to find new funding. If congress doesn't come up with some sort of plan to pay for the barrier. So you're right. I mean, maybe not as much controversy. Now's never related to this. But I suspect it in the next couple of weeks you'll see that start to ramp up again. Joe? Thank you, sir. ABC's Jim Ryan with the latest on the the sending additional US troops to the US Mexico border to help border patrols six eleven. Now..

"I'm Ed Torrence, news ninety six point five WDBO, go back up to the helicopter, Eric Brown in the helicopter. We've got an open mic for you. And and all sincerity, I think is the nicest compliment, you could possibly be paid by one of our listeners. So Eric, listen. Hey, I just moved back down from Atlanta about a year ago. And I really miss captain. Herb in Atlanta. He passed away a few years ago, and he was the voice of Atlanta traffic, but let me tell you Eric browse the closest thing I've ever heard too captain her. He is fantastic on the traffic. He's hilarious. You guys do. Great job keep up the good work. How about that, man? Wow. That is high praise if you've been through Atlanta, you know, anything about cap herb Emory. He's a legend in Atlanta. And I. Mentioned in the same breath. Well, earned Eric Brown. Thanks her seven ten on Orlando's morning news. Christopher heath. From channel nine eyewitness news political reporter is here. Chris is a really interesting effort here to create better protections for animals dogs and cats pets and a couple of Florida lawmakers are at the at the center of this. Yeah. Deutsche and Vern Buchanan democrat and Republican both from Florida looking to kind of basically this close up a loophole. This there are federal laws in place against animal. Cruelty in there are state laws every every one of the fifty states has laws against animal cruelty. But there are some very vague loopholes out there as far as like if the animal transport across state lines, or if it happens on federal property doesn't necessarily then fall underneath animal cruelty. If you if you were abusing an animal, and so this would just basically clean that up. It would say, listen, if you come if you are if you abuse or murderer an animal out, you know, for for cruel purposes on state lands you now face a felony because of the state laws. But if you do it on federal lands as well it closes up that loopholes got support from the sheriff's association the national association there are carve outs for obviously for hunting. And for people that are, you know, taking animals for for sport or for food, but it was self defense. I'm sure defense. But, but this basically what it does is it mirrors it brings federal law to look a lot more like what already is in place in all the states. So it's not quite a federal law, outlying outlawing animal cruelty. I mean because as you allude there, there are state laws and every state anyway, the deal with with animal just buttons up something, it's one of those things where it's a it's a loophole that you might not have known about until it reared its ugly head this seems like one of those things where if you could ever find an issue that would get congress to come together and support it. I mean, it go find people who are going to say, no, we need to have wide open, a bale bale believe to be cruel to animals. I think most people would say yet. But I think I think lawmakers could argue that. That this is the the states a problem, not a federal problem federal law. Well, the federal law then comes into effect if it's on federal land. So you're saying that if in some states, then if I were to if I were to destroy an animal on federal land. Then I'd be untouchable by state laws federal law. Prohibits animal fighting it also criminalizes animal cruelty. But you are here's the the kind of catches that. If you have the issue where basically if somebody's transporting the animal cross state lines for this that then kind of falls in this gray area. So you're you're moving the animal from Georgia to Florida, but then you're fighting on Florida land. Now, you've got an issue where you can be brought up on charges at the state level for the fighting. But as far as the transportation of the animal that then becomes a question of well, hold on did you violate and that's that false well under Congress's rights under the constitution for regulation of interstate commerce. All right channel nine eyewitness news political report, Christopher he you can share your thoughts with us. Wind gust at the executive apart, which is where we keep our helicopters, right? Our helicopter certainly is still in the hangar right now. But some of those planes out there are not in hangers and one hopes that they're lashed down. So that they don't flip over in that forty mile an hour. Wind gusts out there. We'll keep an eye on that seven ten now on Orlando's morning news. ABC's Pete combs is joining us this morning from C bring Florida the site of yesterday's massacre in Pete do we have any new information this morning about why this guy did this? We don't know why we have a little more information though about who. This guy is twenty one years old. His name is zephyr Xaver. He's a recent immigrants to Florida from Indiana. And what we know at this point is that he was a trainee at the Ford of department of corrections Avon park facility for like two months from November second until the nineteenth of January just a few days ago, and then just up and quit. No reason why no disciplinary issues. No criminal record to that. Anybody knows of either in Florida or in Indiana. But what we're getting is this sort of portrait of him. Friends say he was a little creepy. However, I have to tell you Joe neighbors had no inkling anything like this was going to happen. They say they were absolutely shocked at what happened to the level of violence here. And I'll call me seem to be what he called police and said I have shot five people. You know, Pete when we hear about somebody with a gun in a Bank, we think of Bank robbery, but I have not heard anybody make any kind of comments about a Bank robbery know nothing about money taken. Joe nothing about in the demand for money, nothing like that at all this right now appears to simply be a mass shooting, and it's an act that even the governor yesterday said was senseless ABC's Pete combs live from C bring this morning that is of course, going to be a confi developing story. "I'm Ed Torrence, news ninety six point five WDBO. Gene Wexler in for Joe on the go. It's gene on the street. I'm at Chuck wagon on main street in Apopka, I used to be in the Syracuse university marching band, and I can't wait coming up at eight thirty eight I'm gonna interview their current band director, Tim deem and talk about that parade. That's coming up really looking forward to that. But joining me live right now as ABC's Mark Remillard. And and Mark we're going to talk about the markets. It's been quite a story this month. Overall. The Dow is down big time for this month. But lately, it's been nothing but green other but green on Wall Street. So Mark just what's the latest here. What's going on with this tumultuous week on Wall Street? Well, it looks like that might continue the Dow is set to open higher as well as the s&p NASDAQ this morning, but the fact is is that where it a very volatile period as we've seen not only this month, but this entire quarter going back to October could be a number of things, perhaps it's a bottom from all the sell off that we've seen perhaps it's just continued volatility. So it's anybody's guess the way things will trade out here in the last two days of training that we have this year, but they're still just so much uncertainty. There's a lot of economic factors that could be pressing on the market did the Chinese US trade war going on you have Brexit in the new year. So there's a lot to think about here for investors. No, no doubt. Mark. What does this mean at all for people's retirements 4._0._1._K's? I mean that that's what people listening out there. Probably most concerned with is this affecting people like that. What should be there any concerns that people should have? Well, you know, the SNP is where a lot of money is part for most of your your their 4._0._1._K's and things like that. And obviously when the market takes a hit of all a lot of those portfolios might take a hit as well. You know, it's it's hard to say for any individual personalities because you know, if you're later and closer to retirement, this could affect you more than if you're younger, and you're you know, you're not going to touch the money for thirty years. So it just depends, obviously, that's where you know, your own individual strategy would have to come in. And you'd have to really feel out how to play the market, but at the same time, you know, I it's a difficult thing to do. Because here's the question. Are we at the bottom right now? And are we going to start turning around from this selloff that we've seen over the last couple of months, or is this just more continued volatility? Trying to play those lows and highs can be extremely difficult and Mark real quick before. I let you go where we're the Dow peaked out in the fall, right? But I think we're down about fourteen percent since then fourteen percent since it peaked in October near the twenty seven thousand Mark and just to give you a sense of what fourteen percent down means is yesterday closed in the twenty three thousand and so and that was after the big drop on Christmas Eve as well. So we've had a two great days, especially Thursday. But, but you know, obviously, we're still significantly down from where we were in October..

Everybody Brian Kilmeade, another big show coming your way a lot on tap. But watching the markets the major arrest over in China their comments after the two and a half hour meeting in Argentina, and what it means for your pocketbook would steward morning. And then we're going to take yet hearing interview I have not heard since two thousand three that I did with Bush forty one for a book. I did call the games to camp. And I just wanted to talk to seventy three people at ended up being what they didn't sports that it led them to success later in life. And I always heard about how competitive George Bush was what a great baseball player was. But didn't go pro at Yale. So we talked about that. And I made it into an essay just like I did all the others. But I also taped them all before they were transcribed before actually transcribed it. So we put it up on cassette tape, and we bumped it up. Eric bumped it up and you'll hear it for the first time with me. And then Ed Rollins waits on deck. "I'm Ed Torrence, news ninety six point five WDBO in-depth with ABC's. Jim Ryan joining us from Texas this morning, and Jim, you know, we've had a big narrative in the media here this last few weeks with this massive caravan of people making their way across Central America, and Mexico, ultimately come into the United States, and you start hearing words like migrants, and and others who are here seeking asylum there asylum-seekers, I mean, there are different rules that apply for different people based upon whether or not they're migrants or asylum seekers. And then the president either way's is building up US forces there the border. What's the latest? I think the president is kind of putting them all into one group saying that if you're trying to asylum hero, if you're talking to sneak into the country illegally, go ahead and turn around and go back to Central America where you began this journey. The group massive. I don't know if that would apply anymore sort of dwindled down to about half. What it was before initially about seven thousand people. The expectation house. It's about maybe thirty five hundred four thousand a large rule. The president's response has been to deploy what he says might eventually be fifteen thousand troops. Although some military leaders yesterday were saying they're not sure where that number is coming from. They're not sure they can do that. That would be about the same as the deployment wake now to Afghanistan. So yes, the first eight hundred here in San Antonio, Joe you're going through training, and that's what they can and can't do in their backup role with the customs border protection. Jim as you all know, we've got US forces all around the globe, helping other countries with their borders and and with their their their sovereignty protection. But the rules are very very different here in the United States when it comes to US troops on the ground with law enforcement activities here in America. Exactly. Yeah. These troops active-duty troops cannot under launder. The Pas-de-Calais Titus lost in the late eighteen hundreds they cannot enforce state laws. That's kind of blurry line. If you're talking about the enforcing immigration. But there will here is fairly clear cut. And that's what you'll be trained by San Antonio before being dispersed down to the border. They're they're being told what they can. And can't do they can't take immigrants into custody. They'll work that surveillance they'll work in transportation, logistics and moving customs agents around, but that's it. They they really they're not going to stand alongside the portal with their guns drawn for people to come across the border, the active duty military can't do that. That's the job of customs ABC's. "I'm Ed Torrence, news ninety six point five WDBO. The Brian Kilmeade show on news ninety six point five WDBO. Welcome back everyone. I guess they mean Eric told me take it away in the business. I should just smoothly take it away. But I'd like to identify the commands I'm getting with me in studio. You're smart enough to watch the stream is Dana Perino Dana is gonna be hosting her show at two o'clock today, and she's going to be doing the by she's to easily identify her. She'll be one of the girls, and she's going to be an she's gonna be ready to go at that point yesterday. You did not have show. What was that like dean clock? Yeah. To remember a half day of school. It's sort of felt like that. But one of those things where you have or like a teacher inservice day where you still have to be there, but you can catch up on other work, and I read a whole bunch of things and I met with a really interesting guy. I got to tell you about him. He helps CIA special ops civilians who have been injured or killed in the line of duty. And they don't have all the support and help that they need. So he stopped by to see me. So we had a nice chat. And then I had to do the five. So I got ready for that. Tucker. Didn't you did say nights off and on? On Wednesday nights. I do a hit on Tucker. Do you have control of the topics? I often pitch ideas. Yeah. I well. The reason I ended up on Tucker last night is because when he was on the five last week to promote his book, I mentioned something about the Democrats are going to start hearing increasing calls for the abolition of the electoral college, and Hillary Clinton was leading the charge on this. And that I was telling him and be prepared for this constitutional debate. And no the topic better. So that you can actually have intelligent conversation about it. And so then Tucker in the commercial break said, that's so interesting. So interesting, can you can you come on my show? We can talk about that. So I did. So. Very good. I'm just trying to be respectful, but you are right. And it's hard to be respectful when you talk about Tucker. No. I can talk about it. I just I I love his mannerisms. And so I'm actually a pretty good mimic. Yeah. I am a little shy. Now just pretend it's just mean you mostly I can do Tucker's face the very quizzical like quitting. Quitting is looking at his guests. Like, he just can't believe what he's saying what he's hearing. Like, Rick Leventhal, go for ten minutes on the destruction of the hurricane, and it just all the human costs in the buildings in. He'll say thank you for that. Listening. Often, he's the most enthusiastic person I've ever known, for example, one time my husband, and I have no Tucker for a long time. And he's not Peter and Peter said something about how he was learning to become a pilot and took said doesn't as that's the most amazing thing I've ever heard. That's that's amazing. He's just so enthusiastic about life and everything he's got. And also, he's a terrific writer. You let you relax because number one of the country and not only did I like his book. But you know, he started at the weekly standard on August. First nineteen ninety five and I started on Capitol Hill on August seventeenth nineteen ninety-five. And so I started reading Tucker Carlson's work twenty three years ago. So to read him in a long format again was really terrific. He's a writer. First TV is a second career for him. Does have a lot of time to right? He said he wrote this book on planes, and everything, and you know, what it's like when you want to concentrate on a book, you gotta find carve out time. So anyway, it's a great book here is would you talk about Hillary Clinton and lead the charge and getting rid of the electoral college who listen to something else that I think I totally plowed over. And there was no foul up question from Christine on on the poor cut six. The Republicans have systematically suppressed voters in as many as twelve million voters were purged by Republican governments in states between twenty twelve and two thousand sixteen. So we know that Democrats have to turn out an even bigger numbers and a lot of congressional districts and states to be successful because they're being pushed back by a headwind that is trying to prevent them or discourage them from voting. We wish you get that from. Well, I don't know all of the statistics and people that are on the right would be able to argue that point by point number by number with her or go through each state and explain why actions were taken to take people who are double registered off the rolls or people who had passed away off the rolls things like that. She's speaking to something that the left truly believes voter suppression. As I call it is something that they think is happening as it's not even a conspiracy theory for them. It is just fact that Republicans are trying to suppress people from voting Republicans would say, no, we want more people to vote, but we want people to be registered to vote and to do so legally, and therefore that's why they're trying to for example, Nikki Haley in South Carolina, when she was governor said a voter ID actually will encourage more people vote, they'll get more people into the system. Anyway, what Hillary is saying is a talking point that they use that it might sound a little crazy to conservatives. But Brian, they truly believe it. That's a good topic. Actually for me to do a Tucker next week. Thank you for that. Oh, I don't mind you starting that conversation going. I was talking to Brian on the radio with that on the radio. I want them to use like someone other Brian right? Like, I don't know who else. I'm pretty much the needle good idea, actually because the electoral college is something that people talk about, but they don't have a lot. They have a lot of the statistics behind him or the history behind them. So that's what I tried to do with that and voter suppression. And the issue of it I'll do that next week. So there's a big story out today. People making a big deal of Eric Holder saying what he said on top Hillary Clinton said there's no time for civility basically as long as we keep losing elections until we get the house or the Senate. So do you have a problem with this? It is time for us as Democrats to be as tough as they are dedicated committed. When.

"Ed Torrence, news ninety six point five WDBO. Now, the Brian Kilmeade show. A news ninety six point five WDBO why we need an FBI investigation because there are a lot of allegations. And the reports really are about how he behaves when he is drunk so that is very relevant and the portrayal of himself as practically a choirboy. Very much contradicted by his his roommate, for example, in college as always people who knew him in high school. How does this? This is Senator Hirono who's actually getting publicity and notoriety about having ridiculous accusations against Brad Cava. She's not talking about him being drunk last week. We heard the story of John tower former nominee for the secretary of defense. We're not talking about a two years ago even ten years ago, we took it about she doesn't like to he acted thirty six years ago. It wasn't up to Geraldo standards 'Mushie thirty six years ago. What was she doing in college who she doing at high school? Really I'll little worried about nineteen Eighty-three that he might have been drinking too much. So in two thousand eighteen despite thirty five years of professional record after that. And by the way, when he's at college he was a gale. Couldn't get into Yale. I don't know about you. Let them finish in top class didn't really work for me. And then goes to law school. I think he did pretty well. So how about you think he's actually drinking whereas parents helping out as pedestrian lawyers in New Jersey or Maryland. And by the way, visit big story today about the former boyfriend. Of the doctor Ford the pokes holes in her in a major story of hers. Well, we know the March judges already given two days of testimony to the FBI behind closed doors as well as another friend of his as well as the best friend of Dr Ford now talk to Ford's lawyers upset because she didn't get a chance to the FBI. We've already heard you four or five hours. We haven't heard you. We don't need explicit details unless it's going to help move the investigation but the bears as listen, I heard her I find that people around her, Jerry, listen W, H O J W H I O in Dayton, Ohio. Jerry. Hey, Brian one thing. I watched John FOX and friends. It's kind of like my morning routine. I watch that show. You said something a little, and I think I know you were trying to say, but it came across as a little it was basically, what was what was just being talked about that cavenaugh comes across as a choirboy or denying that you drank a lot in college, which is kind of the verbiage you use this morning. But he never said that as a matter of fact, he kind of went overboard in my opinion to say, listen. Drink in school. I may have drank too much beer. But I think he was referring to the to the to the throwing up those kinds of things, but he also stated on top of that. But I never drank to a point where I blacked out. So this whole notion that he was a choirboy. He never said that he always kind of took accountability that probably drink too much on certain occasions, but not to that point Ackley. And by the way, everyone listening right now in high school or college if you're smart enough not to drink like Donald Trump. That's great. But there might be other street. Have you might be gambling? Or did you ever at seventeen do something? You look back and say, wow, that was stupid. Sometimes the best thing you learn life is when you do something wrong. You learn from it, obviously bread. Kevin a look back at his college years and says, well, you know, I'd love to have some of those days back some of them were fun. Some of them we drank too much. And when he tells those stories he said twenty nine times, he likes beer, he wasn't saying. I like whiskey I like to keep a flask by my ankle. I like Kevin Pietersen, my friends, I think people can relate to that. But what they wanted him to do is to admit he blacked out once or twice, and they'll say is he? True. So that you blacked assaulted this woman you back tag. You'd have no idea that you did it and that would be just laying out there. So to me, how are you going to prove that he blacked out or didn't blackout? How do you know? So to me, I think they're going to go on that. They know it's a loser loser. But I think what they're going to go on is. He doesn't have the temperament to be a judge because he was so angry and unhinged last week. I don't think that's going to get much traction. Do you? So.

Florida urges vaccinations after 3 measles cases reported

"One would imagine that this would, no longer be a problem for. Us but we've got a measles outbreak now spreading that twenty one. States including Florida cases in, Pinellas county. Sorry to break But those three cases the. The thing that they have in common also maybe offers hope to people to those three cases all involved people who had not been vaccinated, so the guidance being issued by the centers for disease control and prevention is to get that vaccination especially now with kids going back to school and getting into, that environment when germs and viruses. Are passed around so not too late to do that although the US already is easily outpacing last year in the number of measles cases where we are set easily to surpass last year's numbers when Mitchell. Said so Jim explained the not vaccinated part of this I thought and I'm. Sure a lot of our listeners thought that. Measles vaccinations were part of the so-called required vaccinations it is and yet still something. Like eighty eighty five percent of the kids do have those vaccinations when you come, to when it comes to adults. They don't keep up with it necessarily in just over half or. Have their vaccinate So yeah they're required but in many cases the parents just simply haven't done if. Schools aren't checking paperwork to see whether the kids are vaccinated or not and you again also you know the vaccination is not a hundred, percent effective kid is sitting there next to somebody who's coming from a place that Has has no requirements. For. Vaccination some, of the country then that kid is susceptible and there is I don't know how big the movement is but there is a movement, of of so-called anti vaxxers people who think that the vaccinations are what cause other bad conditions, like autism and because of that they deliberately avoid getting vaccinations yeah I mean the the, debate is raging and a lot of people out there are saying. That that they don't want, to get. Their kids vaccinated but the CDC and better health officials say that, you're putting not only your kid at risk but every other kid in the school ABC's, Jim Ryan with these.
