"The jags versus the texans and i looked in the jaguars were laying three on the road and i was like wait. A second you're telling me a rookie quarterback with a first-time nfl head. Coach is laying three by principle. I do not care who they're playing against the next game me my pickle losers the jags minus three from a foundation standpoint in elliott. I've actually got a question for you. Because i didn't know this before i looked it up. Can you tell me who in the world. The texans head coaches colleague. Right from the ravens. Well yeah i had no idea. I did look and see that. He came from andy reached tree in was from baltimore. So kudos to you for actually known that. What actually makes me feel good about this. Bet is tyrod taylor. Tyrod taylor is a veteran that if we remember last year he was supposed to be the starter in san diego. Guess for the chargers before their medical team headed mishap. Boom here goes justin herbert's trajectory. So i feel better. Getting three points with tyrod taylor and while the texans don't have sexy players on them they've got a bunch of mark ingram's in philip lindsay's and david johnson's. I'm not writing home to tell anybody about that. But when look at what's on the other side of the jags not only had one victory last year. There is no way. I am laying three points with the jags so the jags pick a loser of the week. What about you. I like that a lot. I've written up the texans as one of the better like Pool spread. Because i think everyone's going to pick the jaguars forgetting yes therefore accolades much improve. They did go on fifteen last year. The texans are the worst team football but laying three on the road. That just feels grossly. I think the texans are there right. So i won't game but i think your your pick a loser. I i like where you're going with it for me. I'm gonna go with the jets i. They are much improved team. There's there's no more roberts. I'll against fading a rookie quarterback. I think the panthers are going to surprise people to give the jet secondary a ton of problems. The jets just lost carl austin. Who is there marquee. Offseason edition on the defense who finally was supposed to replace a basically be their first real ed rusher since john abraham his backup vinny curry is also outfit season. They traded for shack lawson because they have no ability to get pressure on the edge. So you can't get pressure on the edge and you can't cover anybody. Their number one corner was just cut. Blessing awesome they. Don't have a single guy on the roster who is greater than a fifth round pick and they're covering dj. more robbie..

"Wrote that is not shattered. He had he had a cast on it. Yeah i mean. I easy to say. It's not shattered. It's more likely than not it's not. It's so the good news. Is i think if there is a break. It's it seems like it's not serious enough to where it could prevent him or keeping out week one. You still that. What nearly a month around a month so week one so hopefully you just cast it up and if you need surgery you get it done. And you can play with the club on his hand but that that's not ideal but heck. He flashes potential. Hopefully he's ready to go. We want but yeah. I don't think it's some season ending type thing or anything like that. Yeah it can't be. Because i saw the most dominant ed rusher in the nfl on saturday. A preseason football crush on joseph asai. Yeah see i. I thought you were talking about various hot. I mean the bengals fats really good. I wasn't sure you're talking about but yeah it looks like another fifty eight. Didn't he looked pretty good. I thought top to bottom that unit and look you know you only get in the ones for a certain amount of time but against a good offensive line. Good group of skill guys were there. Couple of open field tackles. I would've liked to have seen be cleaner. Yes but i thought that unit top to bottom. I thought saturday night was a good good night for lou romo and his guys. Yeah in it's kind of been an extension of what we've seen so far in tampa because that offense obviously struggled early and that was such a hot topic early on and berlitz finding his way. But i think the defense was playing well and you know until you go up against someone other than yourself. You're not gonna be able to really confirm that. But i think we did on saturday night. And you guys emerge right. Asai was certainly fun to watch. But he's defensive. Backs i mean there is folks made a couple of plays you saw. This starting secondary wasn't like they got shredded by a really good tampa offense that was trying to find its rhythm certainly and instead tom brady went down. So yeah it's a step in the right direction. And they certainly looked better than anyone expected them to at this stage of things. And who knows. Maybe they exceed. My expectations exceed our expectations of seasons yeah. My expectations aren't huge. So what i saw on saturday was was really really encouraging. I'll let you get back to practice. Man thank you as always. We'll do it again soon. Found a good by the way. Just update you. On march into another touchdown in eleven. While we're talking so he's basically dominating practice today. I mean two touchdowns at least four catches by my count during a lot. Maybe more might have missed one or two well so so we can. We can stop saying that he can't get separation we can stop saying that he's a bust. Tamar chases absolutely crushing crossing beth. They've cam so far right. Good deal thank you. Thank our guy. James payne read his work under the umbrella. He crank sal a job but he cranks out a ton of bengals content. We are laid for a break. Your phone calls or ahead. You'll hear from. Nick crawl and david bell reds brought up jose barreiro jesse. Winker goes on the injured list. A lot to get to good thing. We have two and a half more hours on. Espn fifteen thirty. "So we'll have to see with with what's going on at the cornerback position our quarterbacks going to be able to throw faster against the steelers in there for they're not going to get those sack and pressure numbers that they would otherwise i don't know but then you also bring back devon bush. I laid this out on a previous episode that when it came to the numb strictly with the numbers when it came to sacks the where the steeler saw the biggest drop off was after the loss of devon bush not not after losing my hidden not in games where they lost buddy pre but where you saw the biggest difference was not having devon bush now seven bush was always there with those other two. So it's just it is what it is but that's the numbers that's the number. So do i think the steelers could improve on their pressures and their sacks and they're and they're hurries and things like that. I think you're going to see higher numbers strictly because of the seventeen game schedule. But what's most important is that you look at those percentages. How're those percentages looking like that. Thirty five point one percent pressuring dad last year. They don't have to improve it. they don't have to go up. Five percent dated from twenty nine hundred. Twenty twenty if they just maintain that that would still be fantastic or even a slight improvement would be wonderful so to me. Looking at the steelers defense is looking at the strength of this team. And so many people were down on the steelers. And they talked about ben rothlisberger and i talked about the offensive line. That talk about this talk about that but really the big thing is the defense and the defense. Every lost that they had was a calculated loss. They knew they couldn't afford bud. Dupree and that's part of the reason why he drafted alex smith the year before and if alex smith wouldn't have had the season that he did last year they probably would've looked for ed rusher higher in this draft to help replace to pre the fact that they didn't tell you that they think that they have something in outside smith and the steelers could have signed mike hilton camp sudden and chose not to. They chose gamespot sutton over mike hilton. The steelers chose to make steven nelson a cap casualty. That's what that was the decision they made so they and they didn't go out and add anyone. Major i mean that like arthur millette in the mix is like one of the additions that they had came from another team but really they didn't go out and make any big splash moods which tells you. They're pretty happy with what they have in general. So i'm i'm still looking at this defense to lead the way for twenty twenty one and i'm really hoping that it's their pressure sacks all those things that they do with getting the quarterback whether they're having to do with the blitz or out the blitz i don't wanna see them having to blitz on every play in order to have any success But it does seem that when they do. They are getting some overall success. And that's what we want to see based on the numbers so those are my geeky numbers for you this week. I hope they weren't too geeky. And i still want to ask if you can sti superfan dad. That's my twitter handle s. t. l. Ourse superfan dad at gmail.com. My email hit me up asking you stats question. i'll give credit for. It will dive into the numbers. And then we'll get into real steelers football for twenty twenty one. So i can't wait to get back to you next week because the steelers might already be meeting at the facility by that time and i know in two weeks already practiced.

"Fifty is just an incredible steel. I mean i thought he could have been a mid mid first rounder just based on how how. Some teams seem to love him. So that was that was tremendous in. Yeah obviously picking up the extra draft capital for next year. Dave gettleman really showed them in this year's draft. I love the dave gettleman and ryan pace turned into cool. Hand luke this weekend like evolve the people but i secretly like i. I'm i'm very happy for dave gettleman. Now that he is an analytical darling it is it is completed the one eighty that we needed to make as a society. So i like it. I like it a lot. Yeah as he's oj. Laurie he he was the edge guy in this draft fast and that bendable around the edge even need some. I mean that that's so much to work with. That's like ninety percent of the battle. I think to finish my point. What i was trying to say is i could see a talented ed. Rusher slipping it. I would not have guessed it would have been ojha lari news not one that i would have expected to slip. Yeah we're gonna get to a lightning round. that probably won't be very lightning round In a minute here. But i just didn't want to touch on this. Real quick is one the things i found really interesting when we did our draft exercise our mock draft series the quadrille g that you all know one love that exercise is based heavily on t. needs and we're assigning who yellow. We would kind of when thinking about those. Tv's first and foremost and guys who are probably valued higher end up in the twenties and it's et cetera We ended up signing jeremiah. Wushu komo to the browns at twenty six and it just sort of felt like i on draft night. Obviously he won't be available there but you know he's a guy who would fit really well but they need and instead on they getting fifty two. So what sort of stood out to me for this pick and obviously i. You know. I'll i'll i will speak for you guys and say we don't like the pick isaiah simmons. This time last year it was all out position. Lists football and isaiah simmons. You can do anything you want with him. And and for the cardinals. It kind of became this kind of thing where it was like. They didn't know what to do with him. And i don't know if that's necessarily a a huge. Joseph who i think did a tremendous job with that defense last year but they just couldn't find the right use fries ahah simmons and did that sort of rub off onto the guy. They call j. o. k. And is that the reason he ends up slipping is you had a lot of defensive coordinator saying like i i get it you know. Here's a linebacker who you can almost plays defensive back if you have to. But what is he. What's you know where you end up playing him in our scheme. What's his position. And are we sort of maybe very quietly slide away from position list football because guys i i don't know he seemed to e seem to scare teams often the end. Yeah i think you're right. Gary that precedent often does affect future players. And because the simmons situation was somewhat hard to figure out and somewhat frustrating right because he was exciting player. One of the most talked about players least defensive players in last year's class and to not see him make the impact that perhaps you would have hoped last season. I i think did affect the stock of others this year and i perhaps you look at j. o. k. And say well..

"I think in that locker room right now, Now that Wolf he's gone, that will do that. Yeah, Absolutely. I have great respect for Shelby Harris honestly this season last year, and I wasn't the most impressive. I think he's having are his best career year and hopefully he gets paid. He's definitely earned it based on his play this year, and if I'm the Broncos, looking to trade shall be Harris. I probably let him know about it and also You know, let him kind of have a choice of like, Do I want to go here? Is there something I'm interested in? So that way, you're not really giving him any negative feelings out the door because I think he he learned that he's a guy who's been a big impact player for this defense for For many years Now. You ran a poll earlier today that I thought was kind of interesting. You said, Let's say due to financial constraints, the Broncos could only retain one of the following players, bowls Simmons and Harris. Which one are you keeping and why you got a lot of responses on that gear bowls? I mean, talk about the difference of a year can make their Poles just dominated this pole. Almost 71%. You got Justine Simmons coming into 20%. If we don't run the same pole a year ago, would have been flipped the other way. Justine Simmons would have dominated maybe Shelby Harris. Would have been in the mix there. He's only got 10%. I think a lot of people just sort of assume the Broncos on a one year deal here knowing that got a lot of youth. They're probably end up moving on. But what did you think about the results of that? And which one would you pick? I would probably pick Garrett Bolles right now, just because of traditional value and fear City it takes typically in the NFL. After guys drafted. It takes 3 to 4 years for that tackle, specifically to kind of level out to become who they are going to be for their career. And I think we're finally seeing the parables. And now I know he's the number one rated offense tackles pro football focus. I'm not ready to crown him that quite yet, But I think he's definitely got a chance to be a top 10 15 tackle in football and often environment have really won. Careers. They can play well into their late thirties. Good looking Andrew Whitworth, For example, He's playing extremely good football right now. I think it's 39. So I think terrible. The guy goes as well. I brought was finally put in all this time on Garret gold, finally paying off, and then we'll just let him walk. I don't think I could do that. Do you think that John Elway needs a win? Do you think that he needs to get a first round draft pick to a second contract? The validate the drafting? I feel like that's definitely something for the narrative. But I would be concerned if John Elway had that mentality because that would just lead to bias in his decision making and you want him to come in. Come at something like that. Without having that kind of pressure on him. Now that obviously, in an ideal world, you'd have a situation where you're obviously retaining the guy, but it definitely I think I'm going to talk about, But I hope that Elway isn't letting that Be any basis for his decision or any factor. One of the things that I think is coming out of this game is ah wonder a little bit about is the often set up Withdrew. Lock to be t basically work with his strengths. The best, and it's amazing how you know things can change in one game you have. We have just the last game where it's like, okay, I'm starting to see things come together. They beat the papers on the road while what a great win in the very next week. It's okay. Drew lock isn't the guy and all of a sudden, you know you don't have right scheme and we go on and so forth. But there might be something to what Pat Shurmur is doing right now with Drew lock that that isn't quite meshing. What are you seeing out there? What would you like to see? Well, honestly, this is the type of offense that If I had my exactly the perfect quarterback like man might be running it. They're on the ball down the field a lot. But right now, you got a guy like Judy, who's separating quickly have a Gallic fans who's getting open underneath and could do things like this offense instead of its court, Sutton was still healthy and you could play 10 Patrick or suddenly outside going deepened and Jerry duty in the slot. I think this would work pretty well. But The way it's going right now. How do you block struggling? I want to get understand more. I want to see more play action and I want him to take Just to the oldest winemakers. I mean, he's got explosive guys, you got jury duty. You got no offence. You've got Albert Lebanon, You got gauge a handler. It doesn't need to be the bombs away offense, and you could get to the vault and quickly and let those athletes make pleasant face. Do you think that the fans are upset that the Broncos went with those two receivers like that? And everybody wanted to tackle? Everyone Think, looking back on height with with the hindsight the benefit of hindsight. Now, do you think the fans are okay with those transfixed, even though we haven't seen that much? A handler and Judy hasn't van is highly productive is maybe people had envisioned right off the get off the bat. I think it's something with especially that contains the NFL draft fans. Probably there's gonna be a good chunk of fans are gonna still be screaming. They should have taken a tackle. Even though we haven't you know as Red Cleveland, the backup in Minnesota And with the Josh Josh on then, you know, Okay, so I think it's something that people in the moment or upset about because they have this ideal position. But that's not really how you need to attack the draft to take individual talents and hopefully 34 years from now, those guys will be really high end starters. So Maybe in the moment of said, But I think a couple of seasons from now given how long it takes for wide receivers to really come out. I think people are going to be quite happy about Cage, a handler and Jerry Judy. I mean, again, coming back. Terrible, though people were ready to bury the guy his rookie season and there's just there's a learning curve for players out of the draft. Wide receivers typically 2 to 3 years. So if you're not getting them to three years before judging them, then you're not coming at it with the best approach is from the analytics. Don't completely agree. Okay, So then just because we're setting up down this road, I want to have a conversation about Millie Creed. And I want it because you and I kinda had a little back and forth on Twitter. We ended amicably. But I want to kind of get your your perspective on Malik re because you don't seem very high on him. And you're not looking at him is a developmental guy so much as you think The Broncos don't really have What they could potentially be a starting outside linebacker. There's definitely a little bit of you want to be having this conversation. I think really creative, playing very admirably. Now. Granted, I do think that some of his facts have been schematic or coverage based and packed off to the back five. They've been playing really good football the last two weeks. But I think Reid, he could be a starter. He's just not the ideal started for me. I want him to be that third guy that third ed rusher he could do you could drop into space is pretty good on those third downs, but I really would like a more I want another Alfa. I mean, it's just plans, but we're definitely spoiled with the DaMarcus where von Miller years with Shane Gray and check their behind them. I think that Ed rusher and quarterback of the two positions where you just continuously throw high end resources. And ideally, on my perfect squad. Millie. Greed is that first day on the bench where you have another Hyeon picked opposite gravity Chub for the post von Miller era. You should that graphic he made this year. I mean, do you replace von now with the intent of trying to restructure him and keep him long term? I have such a long season left that it's hard to say exactly what's gonna happen..

"I think that you're going to see the odd stack in the N._F._l.. <hes> maybe on a third and long when they're trying to bring some pressure <hes> three safety look but I think with what I think with what you're seeing with the air raid infused into <hes> the N._F._l.. Is that you're you're going to start seeing some things but it's not going to be a nine day difference like offense. It's going to be kind of a slower burn of how can we slowly modify to catch up because defended the like. I said they're older established. Wish guys are probably a little bit more closed minded and so those those three in particular probably guys that I would look to a couple schematic specifics from those guys that you think are applicable to the N._F._l.. What would those be bomb? <hes> I think it primarily the mets front versus in the meme front is nothing more than <hes> basically to the end that are clogging to be gap. You have your traditional three four nose does which is thinner the road up on the center and he's he's basically to got player depending on game plan <hes> but what it allows you to do it keeps you it. The Myth Front is really afford out front in the window dressing of three down front you still are going to have that fourth rusher and he's going to be an NAG gives you every N._F._l.. Team has an edge rusher. They've got their their pass rush specialist that hybrid outside Linebacker <hes> they you can say have been there since the days of Lt so I think that front in particular because what it does if you watch if you watch guys like like Georgia or Texas or or or L._S._U.. The Iran Orlando smart they can that easily allows thousand to get into kind of their four down in their three down and it gives them kind of that multiplicity that you would not necessarily have if you were really Ridge said No. We're four down or nowhere to capping before cody. When you look at defense in the N._F._l.? I think everyone talked Bella. CHECK WITH CAROL system couple other guys there. Is there anyone you think who schemes are really really good that WHO's underrated and maybe not talked about as as much. It's just because maybe they don't have the dominant defense I mean everyone sits your Wade Phillips and sort of the established names but is there a guy who say wow. This guy actually has the right idea but but we don't talk about him as in D._C.. I do like with dimmer had done being a guy anybody see that is willing to change what they're doing to match what they're seeing and have been in over the past couple of years. Minnesota's had really good defense <hes> they've been able to keep most players in I think now the game has changed instead of working Fronta toback. You have to work back to front meaning that the secondary is probably the most important part of your defense as you work forward obviously running. The ball is always going going to be something off that really any coach is going to say we've got to be able to run the ball <hes> but I think that because in such a quarterback lead league in really an era and it show has centric you have to start secondary workfront. I think dimmer has shown what the secondary that he has. As being able to adapt is scheme to the monarch game and kind of have success <hes>. I like what the new head coach for <hes> for the Broncos did with the with the bears intuit intrigues me upset now. I know it's GonNa make me so sad. The bears fan me. It just makes me dial bit inside every single time. I remember that gone by N._C.. N._S. CY he knows how to deal with the elite Ed rushers he worked with E. worked under Nagy. Who is I think he's considered one of the better offense before Nader's you wash <hes>? She's got a young quarterback what he did with his office game. He defends that he he worked with him every single day and now he's going into a system or a conference with Kansas City that runs a kind of a similar her height scheme that you're seeing that new kind of N._F._l.. Offense and I think he he's somebody that I would look.

"It went from the fun year to sit a nightmare year. But if you do out and look at what this plan was always focused supposed to be twenty nineteen was supposed to be the first, okay? Now we're really going to go for were in contention, kind of your people have kind of I think, you know, they're in a weird spot now because twenty eighteen months, so poorly. Because of the reasons that we just outlined. But if they are able to get back to the actual schedule of thing twenty nineteen should be that contention year where you have those nine win those ten win. But I think that's a reasonable expectation. But then you bring in, you know, something like, like Peter case prediction, where there, the number seventeen NFL, I think, something like that banking on every single thing going right for the forty Niners ideal scenario. I could see that happening. They were a top five offense. Number one offense in December twenty seventeen when Jimmy Garoppolo was playing well. And now they have better personnel, so. Yeah. Everything goes, right? You could see them being offense. Yeah. They added Ed rushers that here. So everything goes, right? You can see that defense turning a corner and complementing thought five offense. But everything goes, right? Goes three words in NFL, especially with the forty nine that we've seen over the past few years. With the injuries. They had to go through. I it extremely improbable that everything is going to go, right. Which is why I would temper my expectations from twelve and thirteen and three one of the best teams in football too. You know, let's see if they could stay on a decent build and track and make the playoffs this year nine ten win. They've always been, we appreciate the time. Thanks to ton. We'll talk to you hopefully soon. Yeah. Thank you. They've been Lombardi columnist for the athletic forty Niner. Football is his thing. "Show what they had him, and they know that with all the turnover on this other players have left the guy in the command control, you'd better take care of overpay. One of them. You didn't overpay Earl overpay. Systematic. That number right? To do that, Indianapolis Colts quarterback. Andrew luck sat out the teams I ta practice session of the year yesterday, and again today is he deals with a strained calf head coach Frank Reich told reporters that look suffered the injury. Raw training with the team and the quarterback will be reevaluating heading into next week. But caution is the word of the day inside trading going on there. I think the difficult out enough to make a Super Bowl run. They added longtime. Chiefs, Ed rusher Justin, Houston boosting pass rush that ranked twenty second pressure rate last year. They also side Devin funchess to a one year deal to help look out and most of last year's play squad is back as Allwood's and Ryan grant or the only regular starters who deported as we say, alot from the film room brought to you five horizon. They have enough. Do they have enough firepower Lewis to get this done? In addition to those veterinary was look at what they didn't address the Paris Campbell from Ohio. State, who's just an absolute blazer to go along with TY and funches on the defensive side. They draft rock you invited temple to be one of their starting corners. I think one of the one of the things you're gonna wanna watch for an offense align. That was so dominant last year they've off, it's a line coach Howard Mudd is back in the fold here in Indianapolis who I worked with in Philadelphia who's like the godfather of offense of line play. So they have a lot going for Chris Bowden. Jim has done a great job of getting guys that fit the profile physically, and mentally that he wants. He's very specific about it. The guy is very, very knowledgeable as far as the game of football, it self for as danza DMZ go call to be, right there as long as number twelve stay south. Stay healthy. Here's a name to file away. The colts love twenty eighteen draft pick Dion Cain wide receiver out of Clemson clemson's got a long history of producing excellent wide receivers. And yes, Paris Campbell. It's going to be big factor next t y Hilton, but I think Dion Cain coming up in a C L injury should beat a much better spot and ready to contribute. That's the name of just keep in mind there in that indie offense that last year with really no threat at wide receiver other than to Hilton still found a way to not only make it to the playoffs..

"Thank you for having me ready. Let's start with this Frank Clark situation with the Seahawks. What's the latest? What can you tell us? Do you expect him to get traded at some point during the draft? Or will he be a Seahawk in two thousand nineteen? I would probably get the ladder. Just because you know, if they are indeed wanting a first round pick out of Schefter reports that they are actually believe that they are as well. That's going to be a lot for a team to give up knowing that. It's not only the first round pick. You're gonna have to give up. It's also a massive contract that you're probably gonna wanna pay Frank Clark as it stands. Now is that the play on seventeen billion dollar franchise tag? So that would be a lot to give up. I think in any drafts especially one where you know, this is pretty deep with address or so certainly Frank Clark is one of the ten best Ed rushers in the NFL right now. But it's just a lot to give up when you talk about having on that that really big contract and addition to it if you're a Seattle Seahawks fan does this somewhat fill like Khalil Mack all over again. Well, you know, the situation. It reminds me of is is you know, Earl Thomas last year and Richard Sherman in two thousand seventeen. Yeah. Those were were two guys where you know, it really looked like that was going to be their final season in Seattle that next season and the Seahawks. If you remember they publicly shot Richard Sherman two years ago, we we know that Earl Thomas was available in trade all last year. And I think what you saw there. What you're seeing here this hawks placing a really high value on that guy. Even though you know looks like that could be the final season. So the question I think a lot of times in these cases, if you guys gonna be gone after that next year how much value you place on that final year in the Seahawks. Think we saw in those cases they they really valued at five seasons. Even if it looks like it might be, you know, if it looks like that player may not have a long term future there. So I think that's what you're saying Clark here. It would not shock me if he gets traded. But if I had to guess right now, I just think that that you know, they are going to they're gonna know that you look it's already need that address. Sure has already need for them. Even if court remains with them this season. So you're talking about making that that much bigger of a need again. It's a good draft need passengers. But that could also work at infacy hawks. As far as other teams being willing to give up that first round pick that they're gonna want them. Ready? Henderson is our ESPN NFL nation Seahawks. Reporter joining us on the shell Pennzoil performance line game night ESPN radio the PIN gold hammer with Ryan Holland's Brady. What was your initial reaction? When you saw that they got the extension done with Russell Wilson. And when you saw the final numbers. My my initial reaction was this was the logical outcome all along. Right. You know for all we heard about the rumors the unfounded rumors about Wilson wanting to play elsewhere. You know, the there were accurate reports to that. It was going to be you know, that his side wanted that unconventional contract structure that would have tied his salary to the rising salary cap. You know in the end, it was the most predictable outcome all along. Right. He stays with the Seahawks on a pretty standard contract. Now, it is a massive contract. You know, the richest contract in NFL history all sorts of records. But in terms of you know, there wasn't that crazy mechanism in there. It was just sort of the conventional structure, and I just think that logic prevailed. You know the deadline. I think that was a very real deadline on Wilson sparked. And from what I understand that was him Wilson's specifically setting that deadline as opposed to his agent just did not want that situation dragging out like it did in two thousand fifteen so, you know, this is, you know, there's people who are going to look at that and say, well, you know, how are you going to compete for Super Bowl when your quarterback is paying you're paying so much of your tab dollars to your quarterback. And you know, the analogy I would say there is like that's sort of like saying, well, you know, how much income are you going to have after you pay rent, or after you pay your mortgage, you gotta live somewhere and in the NFL. You gotta have an elite quarterback to win and those guys cost money. So John Schneider said during his press conference Wednesday that look we wouldn't have done this. If we didn't feel like we could, you know, many for that. So I think it'd be. Alternative of not having a quarterback to pay Brady lake. Russell wilson. Are you doing this segment? Lying in bed next to a beautiful famous singer with three gold chains on as a matter of fact. Yeah. Great stuff Brady. Thank you for the time. Appreciate it. Thank you. That is Brady Henderson are ESPN NFL nation Seahawks..

"Lot of us yesterday were saying, hey, what the heck happened with the Green Bay Packers? And getting some new players will today. That's not the storyline who better to talk to than our own. Doug, Russell good morning dog. You can talk to Brian good accounts. But apparently he's busy right now. He is busy like crazy. So Tommy, let's list the players. Let's let's break it down all right Outside Linebackers at area. Smith, formerly the Baltimore Ravens, also outside linebacker Preston. Smith, formerly of the Washington Redskins stri safety Adrian Amos, formerly of the Chicago Bears in the latest on offensive guard. Formerly of the Denver Broncos, Billy Turner. Now. The first three the defensive players all three of those players are in the CBS sports dot com. Top fifteen overall available players Turner is the guard from the Broncos. He's a nice addition not gonna turn many heads. But still a solid addition over the last. Yeah. So I guess for fans from a fan's perspective, which I am this is this is a good day for the Green Bay Packers. They are they're adding to their bench strength and some. His starter strength in the case of Amos. And maybe those Ed rushers they'll start. Yeah. Perry's dawn. Played have us gone. So is this Brian good doing what he said? He was going to do. He said he's going to be active in free agency. Here we are. What what what what what else you want? So the other news is I believe Nick Perry was released. Yeah. I mean, look you have to make room on your Oster. And I think it was pretty obvious that Matthews be next. So. The the changing of the guard in Green Bay by Luke Perry was very player, but he can stay on the field. And if you can't see on the field, you're not gonna stick around very long. So let me ask you this. They have a lot of draft picks including two in the first round. Does this free them up to either combined trade a pick move up in the draft by by trading off those picks? What do you think it's kind of uncharted territory because I know this is Brian good second full off-season Packers general manager, we're still, and I don't know if it's just being shell shocked over the years of Ted Thompson doing absolutely nothing. But I think this is kind of uncharted territory from the standpoint that we still don't know exactly what. Brian good is going to do with that full complement. Is you mention of draft picks as well. As all these players that he's bringing in as free agents because we're just not used to it. We've never the Packers have never signed for free agents and a day before that's never happened. Look at the acquisitions what's the need that still out there, that's not filled. And maybe that's where the draft is gonna take care of that. Well, I mean, I still think that they have some some needs in the defensive secondary. I mean that bringing Amos which is a really nice player and what you're doing with bringing him. In is not only are you strengthening York senior also weakening the bears. So that's important for the Packers. But I still think that there's an opportunity in the defensive secondary. They're still pretty thin at the safety position. Specifically. You can always get another tight end. Because Jimi grandma's really disappointing last season and as much as we all like lens kendricks because he's a local kid from Milwaukee under the university of Wisconsin. He hasn't been very effective in his two seasons with the Packers. So there may be a tight end that they want to bolster their roster with you can never have too many offensive lineman. Bryan Malaga great player when he's healthy. The fact of the matter is just hasn't been very healthy over the last couple of years. So there's an opportunity maybe there's well I did notice that the bears had restructured. Cleo, max contract freeing up some some cash could that be they're going after Lebanon Dell. I think the bears could be going absolutely going after Lebanon bell. He's probably right now, the player that is going to be the most sought after because he certainly I think he's still have some tread left on the tirelessly twenty seven years old. And there was a thought that maybe he would wind up in Oakland because everybody's going from Pittsburgh. I'd Oakland after Antonio Brown loved, you know, yesterday. So look, I think that there's a lot of things that still could happen. A lot of things still will happen. But NFL free agency it is it's not the snooze fest. That baseball free agency has been by a long shot. You know, the great news for Packers fans is all this. Great bucks. News have been talking about best record the NBA heading towards the playoffs. Of course, the brewers getting ready to ramp up the regular season with the opening day of what we couple of weeks away. So now, the Packers get into the very active day of free agency. Could it be some more news is it possible than signing lunchtimes? Aware and everybody else. But every time I'm every time I'm getting caught up on one guy, then another shoe drops, and then another shoe drops. So could there be more? Sure. I know you're heading over to ESPN ninety four five next. I mean, those guys there has got to be spending over there. I haven't fought over there, man. This is today's the day. Doug Russell, thanks for coming in studio for a little bit. The exciting news Packers free agents for acquisitions today. How about that? And it's not even eleven o'clock. Yes, we've got an hour of the show left. Our plus more next rating WTMJ winding up the.

"But you gotta make a tough decision if you're staring Nick Bosa, and or Cornyn Williams and say, you know, what I'm gonna pass on this guy who I think is going to be an absolute stud for the next ten years and move back and get a guy that I really like and then a couple of other guys. So it's gonna be interesting to see the decision making from the top five teams in that regard, Oakland Raiders included. You know, we all we all know what Oakland has to do that. I mean, they I think they need to keep their picks. First of all, I think you keep all three picks. I if I'm Oakland the only way this thing is getting fixed is if Gruden believes Derek Carr, if not then we are totally you know, doing an overhaul here. And if you're gonna take one of the quarterbacks at four you've wasted the opportunity to put a player around their car. I I've never been the biggest Eric Carr fan. And I don't want to even get in the conversation about not worth to say. Let's. But if but if if you're being fair to him, you gotta give them a second year. I think in the system because he's had very little continuity. You're rip away the best pass rusher on the team. You're rip away his number one receiver. I think if you're going to rebuild you give him a chance to be part of it for a year. If he doesn't make progress which he did show a little bit of late and season, then you move on. But to rip their car outta here. Bringing a new quarterback. I mean, you're literally starting from scratch, and it doesn't make a ton of sense to me when if you think you have a solid starting quarterback. And you look at this, and you can get come away with Josh Allen and Ed rusher in the first round and then later on the picks twenty four and twenty seven go get a wide receiver and a cornerback. Now, all of a sudden, you have some pieces to the puzzle together with the quarterback I- I- moving on from car and going trying to get Cuyler Murray or Dwayne Haskins or one of these quarterbacks to me. Seems ridiculous at this point. Am my point would be Kyle Murray would be the one he's kind of the wild card that would interest Gruden if he were there. I don't think he will be. But I think when you look at their car this year's a right offered their their car Gruden comes in you got to rookie starting attack a one at which Colt Miller was banged up. Most of the year the interior was banged up. You straight away your CVS nothing. They're they're a car. Well, thrown out. He gets wrote down the field. He's got a strong arm..

"For guys to be uncovered very often the is to get your guys one on one. And then your guys have to win. So this next question is well, it's vaguely connected to the last one. But I'm gonna kinda jump on what Paul Paul Asser. So Paul's asking a these are the Rams the type of team that attacks an opponent's weakness or they played to their strengths. And I guess I would add to that Andy we talk about that patriots offense all the time. And and how they can you know, they're chameleons I take on different identities. New the power run. They can do the spread quick strike. The maybe not so much this year, but they can do the deep strike stuff. This Rams offense kind of the they mostly do what they do. It's condensed. It's yeah. I think they do what they do. It's everything. Again, we say this every week. But it goes back to that first and second down play action. And when you're a first and second down throwing team or your boast explosive plays are dependent on first and second down to the degree that they are with the Rams your banking on getting predictable looks as part of the reason they do it on first and second down you get predictable run stopping looks to more defense. Commits stopping the run the more predictable. They'd be the more limited. They become in their coverages. And that really gear that's the essence of the Rams right now. I guess a part of me just feels like they don't have the same type of. Well, no one really has the same diversity that the patriots can have on offense. Do you think the the Rams can kind of do what the eagles did last year and roll out a series of new things or I mean, I guess they have to they're just wrinkles as opposed to wholesale changes and McVeigh's always been really good at installing wrinkles. I'll give you an example when they've played the extra back to the eagles. Played those eagles last year in week fifteen and they didn't feel comfortable with their tackles against those eagles Ed rushers and it was more about the eagles in their guys Philadelphia. Remember, they want a Super Bowl in the strength of that four man rush. So one thing that the Rams didn't that game? They adjusted the way their receivers came off the line of scrimmage, and they stemmed their routes a little bit more towards the defensive ends. And what that did was make the defensive instinct. Hey, this guy's coming to crack block me. Now, I've got to be ready to defend the crack block. And all of a sudden those guys. Aren't getting up feel the same way? So that's a very small minor adjustment. That's the kind of thing that separates the Sean McVeigh's of the world. I'm sure they'll have a lot of those install especially that it's been two weeks. And these are things you can see when you get into two weeks. You start noticing the very little nuances of players tendencies. Remember this team figured out Dallas's pass rush just by word. Those guys were putting their hands on the ground or which foot was forward or which foot was back that kind of stuff comes into play in a Super Bowl. And they of course that Cowboys game had two weeks to prepare. Maybe not maybe not a full two weeks because you know, they didn't know who they were playing necessarily, but they had extra time to prepare. So what it came down to nets one? From from Dante, let's say this is gronk last game. The NFL is he the best tight end ever. Or is he needs some sort of flashback game to be one of the reasons. The Pat will win the pats win and that will cement him as the. Greatest tight end ever..

"It's like you're in a spot where it's like, well, if SuperBeets beats us he beats us what we can't have happened is Aaron Donald wreck the football game. And I tell me if you guys disagree Khalil Mack outside Ed rushers von Miller. Those guys are special special players that can impact the game. But when you're guy that can get to the quarterback at that rate is doing it from up the middle. It seems like that can have an even more detrimental effect of the offense. Because when he's getting off there is no it's going to take some amount of time for clue MAC to come off the edge for for Aaron Donald when he does split the double or when they tried to do a reach black. They don't get to them. He's at. A quarterback instantaneously? No matter. How quick your off is your release? He can be right there. He absolutely it's not hyperbole say he can wreck any football game. He's in. We talk about the one thing that patriots too. So well as they'll take away your best weapon. No matter what it is. But that's on offense. Does the same apply on defense? Are they going into this game sane? Our main focus is going to be a guy like Aaron Donald. It's always applied both sides of the ball. Abella chang. Aaron Donald is tyreek hill. Right. We saw tyreek hill eliminated to one catch in this in the second meeting because they got used to the speed. They changed the double team and they change how they're going to attack him. Aaron Donald is in a rare rare class, and I've been very very fortunate that I play with two hall of Famer defensive tackles in John Randall and Reggie White. Now, he's neither one of them as far as style size or how he's going to. But he has some of the attributes, and I believe in the game that we have today in the NFL. There's one name a couple of names I can compare. Them too. But JJ watt is the only guy in the last ten years that would rival Aaron Donald as far as reputation in the NFL. We also have Fletcher Cox in Philadelphia. He's won the top two or three defensive tackles. I'm just going to show you how Bella check and what he's done against these players JJ watt seven meetings a half a sack a couple of times defensive MVP. He said the same thing go back and listen, listen to the notes almost dead about JJ what? So Bella check has been a genius in Begnaud to lemonade not only offense of players but defensive players in how he's going to attack them Fletcher. Cox people talk about Philadelphia rush. What he doing last year Super Bowl, go back and look at it? He had one tackle no sacks didn't really have a significant meaning in the game. There are other players played. Well, so that's what I'm looking for Aaron Donald the combination of what he's going to do a -ffective. In blocking and what dominating Sudas because I believe that this combination. This is the only way and Todd Gurley. You're going to be able to beat New England and build a match the physicality white. They have one of the things you do. And so I've gained planned against Reggie White game plan against Lawrence Taylor game plan against junior CEO. And one of the things you do with these guys to slow them down is oftentimes you'll put a game plan in that runs at them. And you wanna give them as many different looks as possible. I want to defend the run at the point of attack. I don't want them to chase me down in the backfield because they're so fast. If you're trying to block back on Aaron Donald run away from hill beat that block backheel tacky for three yard loss. So I want him stagnant..

"He broke Terrell sucks record and a lot of pressures on him to show up this week against these tackles. And I think the other one of Shane's the minutes from Old Dominion those three pass rushers this week. The table is set for them to make quite a bit of money and really this. What the league needs we talked just earlier in this show about Marcus Davenport that saints traded a future. I just. Move up three spots to take this guy if Marcus Davenport was in this draft class, he might not even be first round is what I tell you because he's not even top five of the pass rushers in this group. So I think that's where the talent in this class lies. This is a terrific of met for Edreshev to make some hay von Miller. One of my first senior bowls. I think had one of the greatest weeks all time and went from mid first round or all the way to the second overall BIC. So yeah, that's what you're definitely looking for those Ed rushers I think this year to make some money. And then also it's a it's a pretty good safety group off the ball linebacker. I think any team out there needing some defensive helping this year's draft is gonna get some good eats in 'em near every round. Well, I think it's something interesting about this your senior bowl, there's been a lot of talk of all of the underclassmen that have already, you know, put their names in the draft. There's a hundred and thirty five or something like that underclass when they put their names in the draft already. So little more incentive a little more urgency here this year senior bowl. Oh, it is. And I think it's a result of the influx of underclassmen like you said hundred thirty five which is another record breaking number. I think it was one hundred sixteen last year. They're invading the all the seven rounds of the draft so much. So that the seniors it's impossible for them to fit into that top one hundred ECU into the top three hundred and at this point, you know, the senior bowl they have to alter their stance and get some of these juniors that have already graduated. So they're technically eligible they just made that exception not a few years back. And I think it's just what they have to do to help their event and help their numbers to say. Well, no we had x amount of players drafted with X amount players fit in the first round. If they don't take some of these other underclassmen those numbers are going to start to dwindle. Joe Everett from draft scouts. Are you also covering for NFL draft bible? Oh, yeah. For both sides. We'll see a little bit of my content for the event at both places for certain. All right. So there you go. You could follow Joe's worked for the senior bowl. And also in the lead up to the NFL draft on Twitter at Joe w Everett and then at draft scouts and also at NFL draft bible. "How dare that's fair. I think that I mean Hightower and flowers played a nice game last week. But the chiefs have been doing that week after week. They floors has done a good job. Any did against the chiefs? The first thing they got free rushers on Mahomes there they've been so creative. It's gonna really test. The chiefs in terms of their communication, I trust the patriots defense to get more pressure. Because Brady will check check out of it or just get the get rid of the ball quickly. But deport is the one guy that worries me the most in Kansas City fort against cannon. And or Trent Brown is a big time mismatch and just in Houston played really well down the stretch, they have they're the only team with to address Ed rushers in the top ten impression percentage. It's a problem. Like when Andy Andy Reid so good at those first fifteen plays in the patriots are one of the only teams that kinda shut that down. They outscored opponents by almost one hundred points in the first quarter. So they are a front running team that is just used to getting out ahead. That's outrageous to outscore opponents one hundred points in the first quarter alone. And then they did it again last week. Did you that happen? I'm done cut yourself. What calling Andy Reid Andy for a second, Andy? So. Good at that. You know, he's just well, let's add you've interviewed thing. I said and he. Guys, something click. Click click for me with these patriots. They're absolutely right there. The ended. The ended up there. They're not wrong started off with that quote from Tom Brady everybody thinks we saw. Jillian adamant he's spot on those t shirts. He's hawking for thirty dollars bet against us the asks find fabric. Let's hide obvious. Schuss patriots outscore twenty one six in the second half of last week's game. Look it up. Number two seed. Eleven five this year. They're worse record in nine years. Let's not ignore that. There have been four Super Bowls the past four years for the patriots, minimal. Three solid point the coach. He's like seventy the quarterback thirty touchdowns forty seven hundred yards. One hundred passer rating, the share through seventeen games growth. It's all it's unbelievable. And you know. It's a miracle. The NFL's even letting the play this game America loves an underdog. Let's get behind this one bet against us and count me as part of the team come lock it up to patriots. Let's..

"His only miss came on a bubbled snap by Donnie Jones and miss blocked by by Dan Feeney that led to a block kick. Otherwise who knows? Maybe he's six for six. He was fantastic had a fifty three yarder into the wind. I believe late in the second quarter. And once again, I mean, just keeping his head down making kicks. There's no nerves in this kid doesn't seem like there's anything that shakes him. He's just. Money so kudos to him. For a great game. You mentioned Melvin Ingram. Seven tackles two tackles for loss to sacks a forced fumble on a fumble recovery. Basically the game of his life. Adrienne Phillips six tackles three passes broken up, a fumble recovery and an interception, again, kind of a modest tackle total but pretty much the game of his life Joey Bosa to tackles of sack he led all defenders in the wildcard round of the playoffs and pressures was six six pressures. Michael davis. Maybe had his best game of the year. Two tackles, two passes broken up. Very nearly had interception in the fourth quarter on the ravens first touchdown drive. I believe Darius file on Justin Jones, and even you can throw Isaac Rochelle on there and Damian square all those guys they plug gaps they provided pressure. The chargers did a really nice job of really attacking Matt Scherzer and James Hurst and later on in the game, Bradley bozeman the left guard. Just abused those guys and gave them fits the whole game. The interior linemen deserve a ton of credit. Does king too long returns? I think he had a sack five or six tackles in the game. He was everywhere. His returns probably should've set up two touchdown drives. They wind up getting a field goal out of both of them. I believe, but he was electric return again. And you just see the chargers are winning the they're not the the offense isn't doing as well as we all would like to see a do or as as we might expect it to do. But it's a group of guys or contributing it somebody different every week. And those are the kind of things that win not just playoff games, but hopefully championships because they're getting they're getting production up and down the roster from everybody, and it's carrying them to wins. So all those guys are ton of credit and the roster as a whole really deserves credit for the way they played that game. And really just wouldn't let the ravens bully them into boy them out of their game. Which is what happened in the first matchup? Not anybody mentioned so far, but somebody I wanna talk about or at least a position group, and that's the offense of line. And I think they really answer the call this week because during that week sixteen matchup charged off its of land got pushed around especially the three in the interior, Dan Feeney, Mike pouncey, Michael Scofield. We talked about on the preview you a key to this game was to keep river's clean and more time than not they gave him enough time. Especially since the last time they met and rivers had time to operate on Sunday. The ravens interior Michael Pierce, Brandon Williams Brenta urban they teed off on rivers the first time around and the offense of line while not perfect enough to give rivers time to operate rivers. Wiz. Also had a good adjustment to throw at pressure with disloyal down a couple times. We saw those back toback dump off awesome. That cler with a man come and free out the edge. The online had a really tough assignment against Baltimore. They're really good. And I know Pierce left early in that game. But they excelled and then some. Communication was so much better. The stunts twists were much better. Even some delayed. Blitz were stopped early in their progression. And the ravens Ed rushers couldn't really get home. Either. Last time they give four sacks on rivers on Sunday..
