"Great again this time to the right to break past the line. Forty cuts back across the field. Twenty twenty. Great back. Touchdown forty Niner. Mad brita? Doing his thing with a sixty six yard touchdown against the lions week two of the recently completed season for your San Francisco forty Niners meant breeding the absolute pleasant surprises for the Niners. And he has a nice enough to join us here on the Fitz and Brooks show, Matt joins us, courtesy of Panini America, the exclusive trading partner of the NFL and NFL PA. Matt it is rod Brooks and Bob FitzGerald. How you doing today, man? Good. How are you guys doing fine doing fine, man? Just just take us back on your season. You know, like you said it was a pleasant surprise to see you have the year that you had. I can only assume it was not not a surprise to you going into and through the. Yeah. You know? No get opportunity. So. Wondering, you know, Jerry on unfortunate situation. But you know, I know you want me to do. Well this year for him. So went out there. What's the mindset being undrafted in you show up with the team? And that a lot of people had said man Brita Georgia, Southern you know, he did this. He did that he had an injury at one point in his career. But you're not drafted your with the team is a just every rap every situation. Hey, I'll do special teams. I mean what what's the first thing? You know when you get to an NFL training camp. And you don't have that first second third round draft. Pick thing hanging over your head. Not just go out there and do every camper says special teams, you know, even if you've got to be a long stepper not finding a way to make it. And then eventually, I believe if you're humbling your patient, a good thing can happen. Can you long snap? Are you holding out something we didn't know about or what? No. I mean, you know game online again, they're not give you one. Right. But. Out where you run into ball. Pretty well. You don't have to worry about doing. That is nice enough to join us here on the Fitz and Brooks show, he joins us courtesy of Panini America, the exclusive trading card partner of the NFL and and FM L. He A the running game for this Niners squad. Love the fact that it was able to help out the quarterback situation as the year went on, you know, thinking about Nick Mullins success. Give him all the credit for being in that position making the most but his ability and the offense is ability to run off a play action because you and that running game you guys were doing so well to see that be cut of the tip of the spear for the nine offense was really cool this year. Naked a great job coming in. And I knew day one prepares for the game. His business and himself and. We went out there. I believe, you know, you talk a lot of people improve their, you know, he belongs. Where were you ever healthy after the beginning of the season? I mean, the amount you play with the knee the ankle. Better. Be don't tell me that you were ever feeling good after week one. Now say probably probably after a week after I would say halfway through. There is on the game. I I got entered. That's what I was dealing with it for the rest of the year. So, you know, just mattered me go out there and do that for my team when you say deal with the the ankle injury. How do you deal with it? Is it just man I just gotta buy down on this mouthpiece. And and kinda just deal with the pain. Or is there something more than that? Yeah. Part of his mental, you know. Hurt. You know, you're not gonna be able to make all the cuss at you want to. So you know, that's what makes the difference between guys who love the game guys who don't get to play this game hurt. So you know, anytime I can be out there and play don't you? So if you're not making cuts running into a guy the next best thing, I will assume having to do that. It calls Shanahan's offense. It's got to be a lot like that triple option, they moved to your senior year, right? I would say I meant that sarcastically is that I mean you were so phenomenal. As a sophomore junior day. Switch to the triple option. You're like, wait a minute. I'm going to be playing the NFL. What the hell we doing with this offense? Right. Yeah. You know one thing about that offense. I loved it that, you know, defense off guard, and no I believe in that office to learn a lot about. Everyone wants to plan that out that everyone wants to block and do the dirty work. But no, I think that helps you know, a girl mature has football player. You know, what I'm glad you said that because Rodney are big fans of Frank gore. And what we loved about Frank Gore's that okay, the running you do the same thing in your past catcher. But Matt you'll stick your nose inert a block. And that there's a lot of guys that are that are first or second backs that are not three down backs. If they won't pick up a blitz AWOL stand in front of a linebacker. You know, they won't actually stick their head in there. I would imagine the triple option while, you know, screwed up some of your stats, and it's I think it's the reason is able to grab you. But then probably did teach you like, hey, I got to put a hat on a hat, and and and that's just part of the position and a lot of guys that run and look real pretty they're they with when it comes to pass protection. Oh, yeah. Knows better than by Kramer and best coast. Now. No, you want to be a complete back in the NFL not just running through the catcher to be a complete backyard. The other pass block to do the dirty work and myself in that, and I believe that's what's gonna allow me to game for very long time. You'll be able to stay on the field and say with a lot of teams if you pick up a blitz to keep a quarterback clean. If you could do that stands out on film, guys, go invite you to Cam, no matter what your situation is. Absolutely. Hey, no that you're joining us courtesy of Panini America, the exclusive trading card partner of the NFL NFL PA. I have to simply ask you this young cat coming out of Georgia. Southern unheralded you do anything for the Niners this year, you have your own trading card. I can I can only hope that's the case. Yeah. It's pretty it's pretty unreal. You're you're seeing during the game, you know, people come up to you. And you want to sign your training cards growing up. You know, you're watching guy look Adrian Peterson Brian Westbrook. Frank over, and you know, you'd have your face. You know, I'm just humbled by notice honored that administration. Now, do you carry like fifty of a morale with you? If you're in the club and. And stuff like that. I mean, how's it working as a marketing tool? Nah. Nah. Nah. That sounds like something maybe you're with do or something. I was about to say did you need someone in your crew to do that? Because I'd be more than happy to do it for a nominal fee. But I guess you already got somebody in mind. It's a family member. So we respect that everyone got that uncle or cousin. My man who you tell it was fun to watch. You do your thing this year and grow and prosper, and knowing that you're going to be a part of this thing going forward. Hopefully when everybody is healthy and doing big things here in the upcoming season's. Thank you for your time. And we'll talk to you down the road. Brita like I said very pleasant surprise for the Niners this year, and he joins us live from Atlanta. Courtesy of Panini America, the exclusive trading card partner of the NFL and the NFL players association also to and just from doing the preseason stuff and being around Matt a little bit. Both his parents were in car accidents. Yeah. You know, and they were disabled, and he's kind of stuck in and helped out with the family and stuff. He's a quality quality kids. So I'm glad we're able to grab them on the show because now we really bring the show to a grinding halt with the Super Bowl. Kevin Harlan is what's up? Introduction. That is really sweet. Hey, we got enough people kissing your ass all week. You're the best play by play guy alive. You're getting ready to do another Super Bowl. We had to bring you back down to earth in the show. What's up brother, who are you friends? Do. I'm doing good good to be honest with you guys. I wish I wish you were here though. I like I like, but I don't I can only hear you. Now, let's put it this way. Rod Kevin treated to dinner in DC. But I only went because and his wife and Olivia's daughter were there, and I met one of his longtime high-school college friends. Ed, Kevin was he was the least contributed to the conversation at dinner. I was more fascinated with everybody else at the table. Boy, were you ahead. I'm telling you, what do you play your friend ball? Anybody who wins? He coming back. We're where are we going to see him again? Would you stop? Hey, I'm trying to get into your family and dump mind. That's what I've tried to take your family, and it's good to be on with you guys than I do wish you were here. But you know, what all this does is sets things up for next year because Super Bowl fifty four is gonna be in Miami, man. I know you gotta go, right? Oh, that's a I already onto something right now. I gotta check the warriors schedule make sure they're not playing in that week. And now you just came from Toronto. Yeah. What did what did you think? We'll do a little quick below. I take. Honest to God with the pilot are United pilot lands. It goes. Well, folks, there's good news and bad news. He says the good news is it's minus twenty two. What's the bad? The bad news is it's really with the wind chill minus forty four now. Anyway, those poor people outside what did you think of me Toronto, Milwaukee phenomenal matchup and interesting how the game went? But you know, all this news with Anthony Davis. All this news with Porzingis. And that trade here, you're going from you know, it was one of the voices of the NBA and TNT, and then you're calling the Super Bowl, you're in the midst of one sport to the other sport in the build up to the biggest football game. And here's the NBA kind of dominating center stage for a couple of days this week. But it always does it always always seems to something always here. It's so charismatic that the NBA is such a charismatic league and build on these stars. And everybody knows the stars in. So when you got a shift in everyone's talking about New York, certainly because of the big move they made and a lot of people are. Kind of shaking their heads in. What are you doing? But anyway, the point is is that is that the NBA is is one of those leagues, which can sometimes, you know, take away the attention and the headlines of even the biggest sporting event, and that's what the Super Bowl is. But I think I think beginning today the country is really zeroing in on on what's going on. I think there's probably a little bit of unfortunate fatigue with the patriots. Which I personally don't understand. I just think when we've got something so great that has never been done and and been so consistent, and and and t- to to have that kind of excellence over that period of time with a changing cast in the same message by the same head coach and somehow a quarterback surviving until he's at least forty one to play in this game is to meet like an amazing story that we will never see it again in our lifetime..

"I just got Eddie was driving to lunch and just sent me a couple of billboards that he saw on the way they're starting to go up. So December eighteen is Ellen has. Standup comedy special. It's her return to stand up after fifteen sixteen years of doing this show. And I'm just going to tell you that I had the pleasures as did Mary. Ann. Ed Kevin didn't care enough to make the trip, but Mary Ed, and I were there for the taping. I know Ellen. I love Ellen. I've now worked with her for sixteen years. Absolutely. Without a doubt belly laughing. Having been to a couple of the stand up shows before while she was working out her material. I got there. I was like, okay. And the whole building was shaking with laughter. And it was it was a rickety building, we couldn't get. To laugh and then to see everybody around me laughing. It was just it was like it was like a religious experience. People people had a really good times fun. It's a whole different people ask what the differences between the show and stand up and there's a big difference. It's just me by myself on stage with an audience, and it's kind of just a more intimate. Not that the show isn't intimate. But doing stand up is is just a me by myself without a guest without anything just talking for an hour. And and in talking about other things that I don't normally talk about on the show. And also, it's it's an hour of me talking. It's not just coming up for monologue. And then going into interviews people gonna watch it over and over again, it's everything it's everything you expect it to be times. Ten right. It's fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Really funny comedy. And then Ellen takes questions from the audience, which is always fun and always. Unpredictable and Ellen ever knows. What's going to happen? The audience never knows what's going to happen. And it's really really funny. Yeah. It's good. And the truth is I have to say the reason Kevin wasn't there as he actually was in Australia overseas. Andy game of games. I went to allow the test that is as good if not better than you describe it. So what you are the best at. Porsche had never seen me do it. And she was she just put piling too much on my plate. She just thought it was way too busy to to add that to my summer. And then once she saw me on stage for the very first time when I started trying stuff out. She's like, oh my God. You're this is what you're supposed to do. So it was great to see someone. I love so much that that she, you know, really loved watching it and went to every single show watched every single everything. So it was really fun. Did you see how much I loved it? No. I said people in love, okay. After this. I did it the last minute. Get you. And just give me podcast. Why? Decide to do that. Really don't know. I mean. I don't have an answer that Eddie said, you know, they keep asking you. If you want to do a Netflix special, and he'd mentioned it to me before. But I just never zones agent agent. And he just said, you know, you don't have to do it right away. But we should just make a deal. Just in case you come up. So I made a deal actually on the way home from getting the medal of freedom. We were on the plane on the way home from getting the medal of freedom. So what would that to us? And so I made it that long ago. And then I just was I almost gave the money back so many times because they gave me a deposit, and I was like oh my God. I'm never going to think of anything, and I almost I almost cancel it. So many times to return the fifteen thousand dollars. Sorry. And all of a sudden out of nowhere. I came up with this whole relatable idea. I was in Tahiti. Go to heat. It's just hit me this whole thing about being relatable. And and just, but but making just a ridiculous not really being relatable. And that the name came to me, the the whole I twenty minutes came to me. And then I had to write another forty minutes. Another forty minutes. Here's a tiny tiny clip of what you can see next Tuesday, a friend of mine was at my house, and I told him I'm gonna do stand up again..

"Sports radio sixty six WFAN and WFAN FM New York in other worst part about the midterms on Tuesday, which by the way, everybody should vote vote vote vote vote only vote wants it's illegal to do it twice. But vote doesn't matter what you voting for just vote important people died for your right, but already got Rosenberg talking and breaking down twenty twenty. I'm telling you sued as these midterms had done it's been like this throughout probably the last two decades. I don't know if it was like this before that a soon as the midterms are done. It's like boom presidential election years. That's what it is. You've got two years. And all of a sudden, the talk starts if I remember. Correctly. I'm thinking back to await for reason or seven that they were people declaring that they're running for the presidency in February of seventeen February February of seven for the election. That's a year and a half in advance. That's the equivalent of someone announcing they're running in a few months and trust me that's going to happen. And that's kinda depressing because he wants to hear about that for two years. Anyhow, your calls the rest of the way, eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six that is the toll free number. It's got to our buddy, Steven bayside. Steve what's shakin? What's going on you tell me baby? Well, I will say this about the the kluber rumors or whether it's, you know, Bumgarner Weber list of the year for the Yankee not to come in second place on this year's Garrett. Call now with that being said if the teams they said was the case with coal are asking for gleyber Torres or something like that. I would just turn around my Simon maybe evolved, e or you know, or or Dallas kaikal, and I still feel really good about my chances next year. We the Yankees mutual pitchers. I get it. But if I can have somebody who's lane percents or ninety five percents of the guys and just at the cost me money. Then I have to you know, this is the Yankees, you know, they're always going to have to say that one extra dollar than anybody else. Well, look, I'm all for signing. A free agent pitcher Patrick Corbin, Dallas kaikal native all d-, adding a guy like that. But Corey kluber is something those other guys aren't as of right now. He's he's a legitimate lockdown ace, and you're right. I'm not trading and do har-. I'm not trading labor Torres. I'm not sure I have to. So I'd be firm on not trading those guys. But I would definitely be badgering. The Indians about getting a deal done for Corey kluber. Because unlike those other guys he is a legitimate two hundred and ten inning pitched ace, I don't know about those other guys. And also, I mean talk about aces in the postseason. I mean who knows what that means? I mean, you have guys that are you know, twos and threes that can dominate in aces. I mean, you know, one of the best pitcher generation Karsh off. What does it what does that? Even mean. He does you know what the truth is Steve other than? Bumgarner, it doesn't mean anything. I mean, look what David price did look at what how everything changed with David price. And with Corey kluber 'cause I laid this out of the top of the show, and I'm sure most people listening now or like, I wasn't listening at ten AM said about kluber in his postseason failures. He also had a stretch in which he was dominant in the postseason. You'll his first four postseason starts was up there with eighty body with how good he was lately. He hasn't been good. We remember him two years ago or a year ago. I should say in seventeen against the Yankees. We obviously remember him this year. His last four postseason starts dating back to game seven of the sixteen World Series hasn't been good. But what about his previous few starts? So I agree. I think it's very difficult at times to diagnose what a guy is in the postseason because the sample sizes are small plus David price should teach us all a lesson. It's taught me a lesson because David price was the surest thing to fail in the playoffs. That track record told you he was at. Terrible postseason pitcher. That's why I said what I said. That's why everybody thought what they thought into David prices credit because he deserves credit. He shut us all up because he responded by putting together not one not two but three really good postseason starts in a row. Mike and Fairfield, Connecticut. Hey, evan. What's going on, man? What's up? Following up with your comment. You made some good points about Kevin Durant. I want to just ask you a question. So I mean when it comes down to like all time, I guess level with Iran, and I guess best player in the game. I feel like two years ago. Really? Out of the question to say the best player in the world. I mean now that LeBron thirty three and you just look at the skill set. I mean, you know defense offense. I mean at what point are we going to say, hey, this guy might be. I guess the passing. Lebron's is the best player here. Maybe soon, but I'm still of there yet. I mean, he's up there. I didn't. Kevin Durant always been in that discussion. I think when you're talking about the five best players in the NBA Kevin has already been or all ready been two three four. It's depending on what your preferences. It really is. I mean is he better than Steph curry, I think he's different many ways than Steph curry is he better than a fully healthy it engaged Colli, Leonard. I think there are some differences. Russell westbrook. I mean, I think they're all kind of in this pool of discussions, but for now until proven otherwise until I see more of a decline than we've seen. I think the answer is still LeBron James. But here's the point if you could add Kevin Durant. Whether it's with the Knicks, and it's still frustrates me that the nets and not even rumored give me at least a rubric, give me some hope. But maybe it's better to not have any hope, maybe it's better to not have false hope with Kevin Durant coming to Brooklyn. But to Anna guy on that level. I mean, you don't wanna have a. Raid. Maybe that's too much should save those for championships, but it would be insane acquisition. But right now, I'm in my opinion, if I'm raking the guys in this league pound for pound. Lebron James is still number one. And I think because of the improvement Durant's made defensively he's actually been a halfway decent rim-protector. And the fact that had the injury questions and even now he doesn't play back. Tobaks durant? Probably is number two, Madison, Wisconsin. Hey, matt. Hey, what's going on? What's up, man? Yeah. Leading me right into my question, which is nice. And I think you gotta throw Steph into that conversation that's out of his mind right now. But we root for the same three the best. Jess islanders where loser in our sports fandom. But then we I don't share them. That's what my question is is how does a team like the nets or the grizzlies or twenty of the other teams that doesn't draw free agents, which I think the Knicks might be able to fit that they'll how do how do you plan on winning a championship or getting to that level that I almost? I'm Nick fan. So it's not like we're doing much. But I think there is hope I don't what do you say. Here's what I'll counter with Matt five years ago maybe longer than that. Let's go seven years ago. Did you ever think a big free agent would elect to go to play for the Golden State Warriors? No. It is. Yes. Good players the agent there. It is Matt that's here's the answer to the question. It is all about drafting players. It is about the draft stupid. I'm not calling you stupid. I'm playing off of Carville. And Begala is it's the economy stupid from the ninety two election. See and bringing it all together it's about that. And if you can draft LeBron James, which is not easy because in that case, it took luck. But if you can draft Klay Thompson and Steph curry if you can draft elite players, I think at least gives you a chance to attract free agents the best way to build a championship team is not to attracting free agents. It's great that the Knicks could even be involved in this discussion if they ended up getting them and let them actually get them. Let's look around the league. Let's look at the elite teams in the NBA. Are they there because a free agency or the Boston Celtics there because a free agency? No, no, no. They're there because they drafted well and they ripped. Off the nets now literally that's why the Celtics they're kyri Irving is on the Celtics because they ripped off the nets because they had that they could float out as a chip they also found Isaiah Thomas who anybody could have had developed into a star at the time and sold the Cavs that hey, look at Thomas have a field day. They also drafted. Well, you can have all the picks you want from the nets. You gotta use them. So that's how the Celtics are really good. How about the bucks? How would they really good? They drafted Jaanus onto the Kumho. Chris middleton. That's how they are where they are what free agent and a attracting the Toronto Raptors they figure it out and unlock the key to Kyle Lowry. They drafted and developed demar derozan. They also not very more. But that's how they got. I mean, let's not be fooled here and they also drafted and developed a bench. That's why they would as many games they won last year. I haven't said a word about free agency. So far. The warriors were a seventy plus when team would win an NBA title before free agency. They drafted Steph curry they drafted Klay Thompson. They drafted Draymond green. Kevin Durant went there because they were ready made. So it's the opposite. What team is built on free agency, you need to do it by drafting it looks and the jury is still out that if Kristaps Porzingis can ever be healthy, it looks like they did well in drafting him we'll see about Kevin Knox. And we'll see about the other young players like Mitchell Robinson and Alonzo tree or and what they become. But that's what it's all about baking on free agency for the most part is full gold if the Knicks, Ed Kevin Durant. Great. But here's why it's not the end of the world, if they don't add Kevin Durant because they're still building themselves in the way that you have to build yourself, and that's through the draft that's through not trading draft picks away, and that's due having cap room capital is not simply about signing free agents cap room can be used in many, many different ways. So I'm hopeless. But I think in basketball terms. We're all hopeless until you drafted develop guys on that level chandeliers in Manhattan. Where are you mentioned out? I'll busy working Evan. This'll this'll bring me into my point here. What you were talking about drafting in the free agency. The Knicks have got to open up the pocket book. The only way they're going to draw. A LeBron James is making a big splash sell them trying to get a Kevin Durant. Wherever the heck. It is. Then you can get like maybe a LeBron James Comey time here shantelle me only looking at Kevin Durant right now. Lebron's in LA. You can forget about him. And I don't think I'm just I'm just using him as an example because everybody's like, oh, why don't they bring LeBron James brink LeBron James here, but it's never been about opening up the vault. They're always willing to spend eight even had cap room..
