Top producers leave "Ellen" following allegations

"Ellen de generous producers air out after misconduct allegations So now This goes back to a story you may remember. Some of our listeners may not know this because there's been a lot of other stuff going on in the world. But three senior producers at Ellen Had been accused of sexual harassment and a number of misconduct accusations and those three individuals who have those allegations against them. I have been well, the way they put it is that they've parted ways with the popular Daytime talk show that's like the fancy way of saying they got fired. Yes or well, you know, the thing is, I think when you reach a certain level of power and privilege Your you don't have to be fired. They just look at you and go on and you go and you probably walk away with some. You know, some fat stack? Yeah, they pull the rip cord on the golden parachutes. So let's see how that all plays out. I'm gonna work. Stain my judgment until I find out more. But what we do know is that executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Lehman, the show's had writer as well as a coed executive producer named Jonathan Norman. Those are the people that left now they okay, So here's the thing that you may have not remembered. Okay. These allegations totaled Or or I should say these accusations were made by a total Of 36 employees. Holy buckets. Yes. So thie accusations of sex, not nothing. That's not nothing. The accusations of sexual harassment misconduct against these three were made by 36 former employees to BUZZFEED news. Those accusations Came just two weeks. Two weeks after 11 current and former employees came forward to Buzzfeed, and you might remember this story. To complain about the toxic work environment and Ellen and that included things but not limited to racism, workplace intimidation and other quote mistreatment. So this is like just the tip of a much larger iceberg clearly, but this tip is a very important tip. And that's just the tip. These are three very key players in putting this. You know, behemoth. Of a show together. Yeah.

"It's time for a striker inclines. A D D news look around Johnny object. It's 2020 and Alan Gate continues the world's most beloved lesbian. She's having the worst 2020 ever spilled over into the lives of her three top producers who no longer have jobs. Good. Glavin, Kevin Lehman, Jonathan Norman, You worked with all these people Sounds like a nice day. I worked with Ed Glavin and Jonathan Norman and I am not taking away from anybody else's experience because I stand with those people who suffered Stress and A toxic environment when they worked there, so I will specifically speak about Jonathan Norman. Oh, I was a scoop. By the way through this is this is not a scoop. Former Ellen and I put this in the next 18. Whatever he says now becomes the next day. The alright former L. A is not a scuba teams on the phone to get him on. Guys, This is not a scoop. That was my 13. 12. Years ago, I worked their striker, How many people have reached out to you for a comment on you more than you guys even know because I believe why do I need to go deep down and comment? Just for likes. I've seen people what? There is a naughty in Smell Mur member who just got a ton of press because she said, Ellen wasn't that nice during the commercial break. It wasn't a great story, and now they're writing. Ah, full paragraph news story on an audience member or one random That was there. Yes, who has talked? So this is not about Ellen is not about Ed is not about the other guy who? I don't know. It's about Jonathan Norman striker had sex with Ellen and a giant check. Nice, Jonathan Norman. I for the show, travel together a couple times and to me and for he could not have been nicer and more professional. And and supportive of me. I don't know what went on there when I left. You guys think you got thrown under the bus? I have a client. I have no idea what he did or did not do since I left that show. Your junction was was much smaller when I was there. Thanks to my performance. He got elevated. You're a pretty good judge of character. And so I think that you get us. I think someone who's a dick is always a dick. Maybe they become more of a dick over time. But you could sense it. Your sense was guy was good guy. Yeah, but listen, I'm coming from the side of her. I was on the television program 120 different times. So I believe that I got treated different. And those who are they're working 12 13 hours a day, and some of the higher ups potentially didn't even know their name. And did it feel pox IQ and you had to walk on eggshells at times? Yes. It did and I stand with those people 100%, but my experience Is different than their they fire does that? Does that make sense? Yes. If I had three people, and even though Allie is a lesbian, I would argue that strikers Thie Ellen of this show he does. He does make us all stare him in the eyes. Every time he walks in the room. We can't look him in the eyes. When I walk into the room. You guys better clap for me or I'm walking out of this. Alright. Tahoe is having a real Ellen of a week. Yesterday, Way learned about fire NATO's and today the plague. It's the 2020 big. I know you guys covered squirrels with plague, but this is the first human with plague in California in some years. It has reached humans and infected the first person, California As I said, the thing that they think this guy caught it from being bitten by an infected flea while he was walking his dog outside, Can you eyes in Lake Tahoe, one of the most beautiful places you can go to? And as we talked about on the show, super wealthy people who don't have to go into an office have been moving to Lake Tahoe. That's like the hot spot. This guy's walking his dog and a flea that got infected from another insect. I imagine yet or or a squirrel or squirrel bit the guy now he's got the plague. No. Can you imagine getting through fire NATO sort of getting through Cove until now and then walking outside getting bit by a flea and having plague. I know we're not turning this into a 2020. Bingo, but I think there's also a A giant asteroid that is going to make its way very close toe closer than the moon to Earth in the next week. I believe if you have that they always say it's good to have something to look forward to. AMC is opening its doors. Speaking of looking forward to something. Think of all the smash popcorn that's been stewing in the carpet for five months. You can smell it. Now. They're opening 100 locations this Thursday operating at 30% capacities. That means 70% of the seats will be left empty during Showtime. Now if they reduced the price of the popcorn and the dots and the junior mints and the hot dogs that would entice me to go. You're not going. I know there's no way you're going to go, you wouldn't go because First of all, I don't know if they're even releasing movies right now. I think a lot of the movies that they need to make multi million cells and they want to wait till there's actually I think a lot of these movies they're going to be held for another year, which stinks because they're done and they're ready. Who wants to be like I sold 30% of the tickets because you could only like, you know if the movie is anticipated. There's not gonna be a movie that's worth it enough to go on strike, or you would not go unless you did one of these things where some theaters are doing what you can rent out the whole theater, and it's your own group of people that I'll get 10 check before you go. Oh, in. But if there's a stranger anywhere in there because someone at some point going to get a kernel stuck in their throat and they're gonna let out and you're gonna freak a sprint down there like I was running the 100 yard dash. Right, Klein. You're right. I'm not going to. But if the price is good for the ticket, I would buy the ticket walking by the food and walk right out. I love movie theater is worth it. I'm Allie, and that's your A T T news. I.

"Thanks very much. Another week another revelation involving accusations against a major media outfit in this case, the Ellen DeGeneres show. A daytime talk show is under investigation by its parent company, Warner Media after allegations first published in Buzzfeed News. The degenerate show is a feel good hour each day. These accusations are not comprising claims of racism, intimidation and multiple allegations that senior executives groped and sexually harassed junior colleagues. Ellen DeGeneres has apologized, saying she'll take a more active role in running the show. Buzzfeed News, which first broke the story spoke to 36 former employees. We invited the reporter who did so to join us. Here's Buzzfeed News is Kristy Lee Young Dolly to tell us more? Christy LeAnn Julie. Welcome. Thanks so much for having me Christy Lee, can you start by describing some of the allegations against the top executives of the show? Sure, I spoke to 36 former employees who described an environment on the show of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct. Former employees said that this culture started with executive producer Ed Glavin that he would touched them inappropriately in the control room and make them feel uncomfortable that generally he led with fear and intimidation. Former employees also told me that head writer and executive producer Kevin Lehman groped them touched them inappropriately and made sexually explicit comments in the office and at office parties as well as a former employee who told me that executive producer John Norman groomed him over a period of time and then also made an unwanted sexual advance on him. What these execs say in response to these allegations. Glavine has not responded to our request for comment, nor have we seen him. Comment at all. And Warner Brothers and Warner Media had no comment and declined to comment when we reached them head writer and executive producer Kevin Lehman categorically denied any kind of Allegations against him. He said that he has never had a single HR or interpersonal complaint made about him. John Norman also denied any allegations made against him to us in the statement after we publish our story How did thiss culture evolve? And why have complaints gone unaddressed? Common thread in every single person I have spoken with is that they say there was no HR They say that There was no HR present on set on the show that it was Warner Brothers HR, but that that line of communication was not direct and was never made clear to them, And they also said that they did not feel comfortable. Because when these complaints would come up, they said that executive producers and senior level producers would try and encourage them not to go to H. R. So generally, they said, there is a huge issue in regards to that. It does seem one of the three lines in a lot of these stories about the media is that when HR is not part of the equation, journalists often end up playing that role for them. In a letter to her staffers last week, Ellen too generous, said she relied on others to stay on top of day to day operations, but added, My name is on the show. And everything we do, and I take responsibility for that. How Where was she of what was happening on her set? So I have spoken to a number of former employees who worked at the chauffeur Ah, long time a number of years and who were in rooms with the generous and who spent time with her on set and said that they find it very, very hard to believe. That the talk show host was not aware to some degree and to some level of what goes on. Also, though, I've spoken to people who say degenerates doesn't spend a lot of time on set and does is may not be fully aware. Of the entire spectrum of the culture because she's not there a lot, which they also think is a problem. And because they say, executive producers kind of insulated her which again they also saw as a problem. You cover Entertainment for Buzzfeed news. How is this? Not an unfamiliar question Recent years Sadly, But how do you reconcile? You know what we know as this person who brings joy to so many millions of Americans and who seems so buoyant herself and human and the nature of the culture of the show that bears her name, at least as evidenced by the reporting you've done in recent weeks. So I think that is a huge part of this story. For viewers of the Allen Show and for former and current employees is that Ellen profits and has built an entire brand around thebe kind messaging that former and current employees say does not match up with their personal experiences on the show. And in fact preaches quite you know, they've experienced quite the opposite. You know, it's surprising to people. I think. Obviously, these allegations would be shocking against any show. However, I think it stings a little harder to viewers and two employees who had to work in that environment. That was Chris. Really Jandali. She's an entertainment news reporter at Buzzfeed News. Christy Lee, Thanks so much for.

Things feel unorganized. uh-huh Josh do me a favor. Kevin and Mary really good people give him a chance. He called me after the show and said you know what you're right. I stuck with them. It wasn't so bad. Oh Take my God elevated quality about the Josh Gad. Show believe wasn't a ruin we just we just cut the dead weight but I will say Ed is very communicative on the headset. If putting in a photo oto if ED's changing something if it's doing anything he's on the headset to make sure that Andy and I on the floor. No one point at at one point and Oh and Matt Wright played the role of Andy Today on the tag not easy Hashtag not easy but it won't got a lot of demands hands. Oh man you've got it. Kevin was so quiet at one point over the headset. Matt's head Kevin or are you in the control room because I gotta be honest. I'll show you a picture. There's a thousand buttons in front of me control my headset each button. Talk to someone different and I've never conquered how to make how to who can hear me scared to make a joke. Well I don't know the things out of the show. I have no clue what's happening all my God. It's like it's almost like a little birds chirping so fun. All here's the other thing in the in the and the meeting so on a regular show as as we've just talked about. Ed Cues Corey to scare that. And it's a big thing. Big timing box in a table set that is a comedy cue for example the guest. You're scaring needs to be looking at Ellen or the host or Josh yes or the host. Or as if they're looking away they're not gonna see the person when they pop out. Yeah right okay. So we're in the control room meeting Kevin Kevin we've now learned. has this button phobia and Kevin Turns to Korean. Go So Corey Ula take your own Q.. On the scare exactly I said so. The Queue Line is so the queue line is. You're not sick and me and then you'll do the scare ad if there's any problem all interjected stop you you know what if we each whatever home style well exactly would stop him so every conversation on the coffee table it so happens was texting. Get over here yeah. So that's when I believe there was one time I couldn't hear Mary and Matt Yelling at me for a picture. I couldn't hear what they asked for them looking. I thought I heard you say do you have them at Disneyland. Well she wasn't a picture so yeah right so we got through the scare. Okay timing unbelievable so then Evan Rachel Wood perfect she glazed over that. The scare scare was scare. Scare was scare nothing thing may Josh Gad. Happier did that scare and a gift. He's ever been given you gotTa Channel so Evan Rachel Wood is also on the show and she tells a story about how she was on her way to Disneyland when she got got the call that she was going to be in frozen. I have to start off with the fact that even though we're in the movie together I only recently met you and your son. This is true. Oh at Disney Khan and I was like boot. This is this is Olaf. And he's kind of looking at him. And you're like I got this closure is and then you said in his ear. I'm Olaf and I like warm. Hugs and my son just goes. It really was.

Obviously, there's gotta be something in it for you to give up this kind of time. It's a complicated equation. It's a fair question is it is a very fair so who wants dancer, well, the good news is we're all getting paid the same. That's true. No, we're like the friends we're like the friends cast. We get paid. We when we went into this thing, we said in this negotiation. Exactly, we are negotiating as a group, and I'm keeping my clothes and. And we said no matter how contentious it gets no matter. We are going to stay United as a group. So yes, one gets paid. We all get paid. So we all took no paycheck together. And I found the conversation about Kanye riveting, right? Fly. You know, Ellen has has had a relationship with Connie, and has, you know, had a friendship with Connie. And I remember ten years ago Kanye performed at our outdoor show in Burbank in the park, and he came into our came into Ellen's office while we were briefing with a Louis Vuitton backpack pulled out his backpack opened up his computer and said this isn't going to be out for a year. But let me play it for you. And he played a song by by himself and Chris Martin from Coldplay call I think called homecoming. And I was like oh my God. How can I hear the song? It didn't come out for another year. And he was just like young and blowing up and brilliant. Yeah. "Hi, it's Ellen Degeneres. Welcome to my podcast. We're gonna listen to some of the best moments from the show, and it's going to be hosted by four executive producers that I love, happy listening. You guys today's episode Ellen on the go, Jennifer Hudson sings beautifully. Even when you can't understand what she's saying. Yara Shahidi talks about running for president and my favorite. The eleven year old rapper lay impresses us with an epoch performance. I'm Mary Connolly. I'm Ed glavin. I'm Andy last ner Kevin. Leman. What are we talking about today? Locked going on here. Let's start with Jennifer Hudson. All right. Okay. So we have a lot of celebrities on the show and process wise. What happens with some friends. Not as many as you think you are. That episode, seven, that jokes going to get really ill. Oh, wait. We're on episode eight. Oh. So Andy reviews the segment notes for all of us celebrities and the producers often pitch Andy games that we may play with those celebrities. And then we pitch Ellen those games once Andy's approve them. Right, right. So we had Jennifer Hudson on the show, and we wanted to play a game with Jennifer Hudson, and to be honest, we couldn't come up with a great idea, right. So in the morning, the producer comes in and pitch his Andy, the ideas, we're sort of waffling a little bit. We pitch out on a couple of ideas. So at noon, we're gonna. We're gonna do the show at three at noon. We don't really have an idea for our second act of Jennifer Hudson that we feel is strong enough for Jennifer Hudson that we that we love because we love. We love Jay HUD. She's always a great guest. She's always fun. She'd had a fun time last time. She was here with a different game. Yeah, we want to try to capture that again. Yeah, so two o'clock in the afternoon to fifteen in the afternoon, Corey preventer and Elissa coat. Two of our producers come into the control room. Elissa has the speak-out thing. The thing that you put in your mouth that opens up your lips so that you can't really. Close your lips and pronounce bees and peace. Correct. And they and they proceed to play this game with us where they attempt to sing song lyrics with the speak-out thing in a list as mouth. And that was funny. Then we knew we knew we had the game so minutes before we take the show, we decide this is what we're going to try to do with Jennifer Hudson with a lovely Jennifer Hudson. And since she's here today, we thought it would be fun to play a musical version of our game speak out, but it's now sing out. So she's going to sing a song lyric and I'll have to guess what the title of the song is. So you will put this in your mouth and then. Okay. Do you know which way it goes? No, but I'm gonna figure that all right. Yeah, that's on the right. Nope. The other way. Oh, this way. Wow wrong. If I. Oh, yeah. Oh. Nope. Nope. I feel like I'm at the dances. Little needle sideways? No, not inside. No one goes on one side. No. All right, and you're gonna sing. I don't know what this is, but you're going to sing this. Okay. Baby. Such pretty cheap key. "But it's listen to over the last episode and if you haven't go back and listen to it, we sort of tell the trajectory of Kevin lemans career here at the show which is kind of unbelievable how you know we hired him. He's back stint. I'm back selling, producer, assistant, and now we all basically were married. We hired her. What about you? We hire Kevin, we promote them and we made him guy Mary. What did you do before this? I started my career in television as page at NBC in New York. It was probably the best job I ever had. I met friends in that job that I'll have for my entire life. It was a great job because I didn't know specifically what I wanted to do in television, and that job allows you to do a bunch of different things and fun fact, I worked in thirty rock thirty Rockefeller plaza at the same time as Ed glavin Andy last nerve. And all three of us were working on different shows. I was working on the David Letterman show. Ed was working on the Donahue show, and Andy was working on the Rosie O'Donnell show, and we were all in the same building at the same time and did not meet until years later, but I was NBC page. I got hired to work on the David Letterman show is a receptionist. I stayed for. Ten years left as a producer, moved to California for a number of years. And then when back to talk shows and was hired to launch the owns generous show, and you introduced us to some of the people, you've introduced us to some of the people from the Letterman show in their brilliant and you got the Letterman show and Dave to allow us to use his theater when we took the Ellen show to New York right years ago, we went to New York and and the good folks at the Letterman show starting with Dave allowed us to use the sullen theater. So Ellen did a couple of shows from the Ed Sullivan theater in New York City. And that was just highlight for me and just Zelter in my brain of doing two shows at the same venue. And for those of you who don't know the Ed Sullivan theater is where the Beatles premiered in the United States where the Rolling Stones premiered where the who premiered some of the greats so subscribed today on apple podcasts or wherever you're listening to us right now. We're gonna talk about Kristen bell, and we're going to talk about a young man named Seth. Oh, and who will talk about more when we get there? He's kind of my hero. Yeah, Andy. Where do you wanna start by saying that you're my hero. Oh, so it doesn't make me feel bad at all bar. One of my favorite parts of the week. Yep. US open champ. Naomi Osaka came here two days after her. Unbelievable and eventful win, and it was eventful. Yeah, is it was really amazing. How did that start Mary? Well, it started with the world getting ready to watch that tennis match to see Serena Williams make history. Yes, that's that's the world was doing that. And then they also just talked about her opponent and she had to play someone in order to win and capture this title. Nobody considering that the opponent, she was playing twenty year old twenty year old twenty year old, Naomi Osaka who when you eat her previous? No one report not reported adult not really talked about, and she looked so small on the court. So small, it's so crazy. Like a like a little girl playing tennis and. On our stage. It was like, oh, she's a fricken bad ass woman. She's a, she's a professional athlete. So it's Ed glavin birthday, September, eighth on September eighth. We're watching this match. I'm watching it. I text Ellen and go just, you know, the matches on she goes, I've recorded it. I'm watching it later. Andy text me during the match. Like this is quite a match. The match ends Edwards surfing head was, you know, all the stuff goes on in the match, which I can't wait to talk to Serena Williams about when she's here because deserves to be talked about. So the match ends and we get an Email immediately from our booking department going, do we want Naomi Osaka and we all go, yes, yes, yes, yes. Expedient or six people on the tech settings. People six, five want them. Ed goes, wait. What Serena lost that hurt. My feelings said, had not seen the match and Ed having not seen the match had never heard of Naomi Osaka was like, whoa, why do we. No, we're not interested in. I don't know that we're interested in her and we all went ahead. Get out of the water. Take off your wetsuit and check this out because you're definitely going to honor. So we then have to wait until Ellen sees the match because we know she's recorded it and we don't want to spoil the ending. So we have to wait till she seen the match and then we go, do you want Naomi? And she's like, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, I can't wait, and she won on Saturday and she was in the chair with us on Tuesday. So Naomi, if you saw her post game interviews, if you saw everything, she's very reserved very kind of closed down and she, she came out and she sat down with Ellen, which she has then told us was a dream come true of hers to be on Ellen and Allan just loved honor, and Ellen just just chipped away and got her to open up. And we learned that she had a crush first of all, congratulations. You are the champion US open champ. How's that sound to you? It sounds really sounds good something you dreamed of. Yes..

"Hi, it's me Dame Judi Dench. I'm kidding. It's Ellen isn't weird how much we sounded like though, anyway, welcome to my podcast. We're gonna listen to some of the best moments from the show, and it's going to be hosted by four executive producers that I love. They have been with me from every every single show from the very beginning so they know a lot. And if they say anything that I wouldn't like, please tweet me happy listening on today's episode. Nikki Manashe gets personal about her love life, Ellen dozen, impromptu g m a day interview. My boyfriend Mark Wahlberg talks all about a dump truck. My girlfriend, Anna Kendrick, performs the rap. Welcome to our podcast. This is very exciting. Thank selling for that nice introduction. I'm Mary Conley. I'm Andy lasts ner. I'm Ed glavin. I'm Kevin Leman the second. So yeah, we're really excited about this podcast, Ellen Nastase if we were willing to do it and we said, sure and asked her how much we'd get paid for it. And she said nothing. And so here we are. I thought that was a joke when getting a penny for this. Anyway, we're very excited about it and hopefully you'll be listening to us every Tuesday and Thursday where we're going to give you some of the clips that we really loved from the past week show and also give you some behind the scenes of how harsh, oh, gets made every day. We always like to be highly topical in our premier, and nobody seemed to be getting more press this summer in the entertainment world than the Queen herself. Nicki Menaj over her album drop over her Queen radio. She was trending on Twitter and we said, any chance we can get Nikki for our premier and she showed up what I will tell you about Nikki Manashe is that Nikki Manashe does not disappoint. I'm not sure if this is a, this is a easy thing for these guys that to to accommodate or or not, but you enjoy exercising three times a day. Well, I would set what you say. Yes. It depends if you have someone that you don't see on a regular basis, it's not like if you living with the person that you see them every night. But if you see them, you know, like once twice a week and yeah, three times a night when I see you three times a night. Okay. And if you can't hang goodbye..
