"Now there are rumors that the generous may leave the show. Here to talk about the drama surrounding the Ellen Degenerate Show is Christy Jandali. She's an entertainment reporter for Buzzfeed. Hi, Christie. Thanks so much for having me and just a warning to our listeners were going to briefly talk about allegations of sexual harassment and assault in this show. So Christy. What are the central allegations here and who's making them? I've spoken to you at this point more than 50 former and current employees on the Allen too generous show in our first reports. Former employees said that the working environment was toxic making allegations of racism, saying they were fired after taking medical leave after a suicide attempt. There's a range of, you know allegations from former employees in terms of what they're calling toxicity. And then, in our most recent report, I spoke to dozens of employees who described what they called a culture of sexual harassment and misconduct, starting with executive producer Ed Glavin and permeating throughout the rest of the culture, with allegations of Glavin being hands thean touching women inappropriately in the control room while the show was filming. Some other allegations from former employees, accusing head writer and executive producer Kevin Lehman of grabbing them in inappropriate places in the office and at office parties. In addition, Tio making sexually explicit comments in the office, so there's a range of what former employees air calling sexual harassment and misconduct allegations. Okay, so there's a lot going on here within this show a total and I guess I'm trying to figure out I mean, how many of these accusations actually center on too generous herself versus the people who she employed. The allegations I've heard from former employees are not against the generous they are saying that they come from executive producers, and there's a trickle down effect. So it also impacts the way senior level producers and anyone who manages anyone at the company. Behaves, although while none of the allegations are specifically against generous, I have heard from a number of people who are longtime former employees who have been in rooms with the generous and spend time with the talk show host who say that they find it very, very hard to believe she does not know about the behavior that goes on. Her show, right? We'll talk about that more in just a moment. But you mentioned Kevin Lehman unexamined motive producer. It sounds like there were some pretty egregious charges leveled at him. Can you go into that a little bit more? So for employees. One specific former employees said that she saw Lehman grope and kiss that making unwanted advance on a production assistant in a car. One former employee said that Lehman propositioned him when he was entering a bathroom at an office party saying, you know, asking him to perform oral sex in the bathroom and dozens of former employees who said that Lehman has made sexually explicit comments a few former employees who said that Lehman has Pinched their butts air spanked them in the office. One former employees that they saw Lehman grab a production assistant Penis at an office party. So there's a range there as well. Yeah, I mean, worth mentioning here that since the story was released, Mr Leeman denied misconduct, saying, quote. I'm horrified that some of my attempts At humor may have caused offense. No doubt that's going to get questioned. As we move forward kind of threw these proceedings here and you mentioned to kind of some acts of racism is well. What were those experiences like one former employees told me that she experienced what she called my grow aggressions and racism regularly at the show. She said that a head writer came up to her at an office party and said, Oh, I don't know your name. I only know the name of the white people who work here. She said that her manager pointed to her and another black woman who had the same hairstyle and said, Oh, you both have Sprays. I hope we don't confuse you two and a number of comments, she said. On a regular basis. She also said that she asked for employees to have diversity and inclusion training. And she asked for a raise. After working on the show for one year after she learns that another employee who had the same exact position is her and less experience was making double her salary. And she also said that when she started to speak up about issues of diversity, representation and comments like this, her her colleagues at the time called her the PC police. She said that when she brought all of these issues, Tio HR. That is then brought into executive producer at Gavin's office and reprimanded by Glavin and her manager at the time. And she said that after that meeting, she walked off the show and never returned. So I think kind of one of the overarching questions that here is. How much do you think Ellen knew about all of this? And I mean, I I wonder, because a someone currently not always but right now hosting, you know, a daily talk show hosts. Really Khun get shielded from things. There's so much work that goes on in the background. I mean, they can kind of live in their own silos. I'm just wondering, you mean A from your reporting is the sense you get that Ellen really was aware of all of these infractions that you talked about, So there are a few things at play here. I've heard from a number of employees that say Executive producers shielded on DH insulated Ellen from the full spectrum of what went on behind the scenes of the show, which they saw as a huge problem. Another thing that many former employees are telling me is that Alan doesn't spend much time at the show. She comes in rehearsals. She gets hair and makeup done, she tapes and she leaves. Well, it seems like there was potentially plenty of that toxicity regarding her staff. Now let's talk a little bit more about her and some of her actions. Celebrities. I've kind of been coming after Ellen, too. I mean, actors Brad Gara and Leah Thompson of both commented about Ellen Brad Garrett tweeted that her behavior is quote common knowledge and accused Ellen of treating her guests. Horribly. It seems like for months that we have kind of been hearing about this coldness about her with other guests, So I mean At heart of it. What do you think is really going on them? Quite honestly, There have been lots of tabloid stories and rumors about Ellen has Bean you know for years and that's not what this story is about. I think what former employees are trying to get across is You know their workplace environment and shifting that, although you know talent did want to speak about their experiences on this show. That would definitely definitely be interesting. Write the reports that Ellen wants out. Maybe we're not so sure about that, as of now. The rumors that Ellen is leaving are completely unsubstantiated. We really don't know anything. The last thing we heard was from executive producer Andy Lassiter, who sent an email to staffers on Friday late Friday after her apology on Thursday, and he was saying that Everything is scheduled to go according to plan and you know, production is moving ahead and so is taping on DH. Then today, Porsche Alan's wife, Posted a photo on instagram. It's like an image photo that says, I stand with Ellen's supporting Ellen Scooter Braun, who is Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber's manager tweeted in support of L A. And I forgot it was over the weekend. At some point. I think that we're seeing criticism, although we're also seeing You know, we're seeing people try and fight against that in her on her behalf, So I don't mean we We don't know that Alan is leaving and I don't I don't really know that we can Speculate on that. If anything, it kind of seems like she's not really going anywhere. Well over the weekend. I mean, just to kind of follow through with this here, The Sun News quoted inside sources and reported that James Cordon of the late late show has been on the list of people to replace Alan even before the scandal has there been any movement, replace Ellen that, you know of our assists still way too early to know, know? For a couple of years..

"Thanks very much. Another week another revelation involving accusations against a major media outfit in this case, the Ellen DeGeneres show. A daytime talk show is under investigation by its parent company, Warner Media after allegations first published in Buzzfeed News. The degenerate show is a feel good hour each day. These accusations are not comprising claims of racism, intimidation and multiple allegations that senior executives groped and sexually harassed junior colleagues. Ellen DeGeneres has apologized, saying she'll take a more active role in running the show. Buzzfeed News, which first broke the story spoke to 36 former employees. We invited the reporter who did so to join us. Here's Buzzfeed News is Kristy Lee Young Dolly to tell us more? Christy LeAnn Julie. Welcome. Thanks so much for having me Christy Lee, can you start by describing some of the allegations against the top executives of the show? Sure, I spoke to 36 former employees who described an environment on the show of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct. Former employees said that this culture started with executive producer Ed Glavin that he would touched them inappropriately in the control room and make them feel uncomfortable that generally he led with fear and intimidation. Former employees also told me that head writer and executive producer Kevin Lehman groped them touched them inappropriately and made sexually explicit comments in the office and at office parties as well as a former employee who told me that executive producer John Norman groomed him over a period of time and then also made an unwanted sexual advance on him. What these execs say in response to these allegations. Glavine has not responded to our request for comment, nor have we seen him. Comment at all. And Warner Brothers and Warner Media had no comment and declined to comment when we reached them head writer and executive producer Kevin Lehman categorically denied any kind of Allegations against him. He said that he has never had a single HR or interpersonal complaint made about him. John Norman also denied any allegations made against him to us in the statement after we publish our story How did thiss culture evolve? And why have complaints gone unaddressed? Common thread in every single person I have spoken with is that they say there was no HR They say that There was no HR present on set on the show that it was Warner Brothers HR, but that that line of communication was not direct and was never made clear to them, And they also said that they did not feel comfortable. Because when these complaints would come up, they said that executive producers and senior level producers would try and encourage them not to go to H. R. So generally, they said, there is a huge issue in regards to that. It does seem one of the three lines in a lot of these stories about the media is that when HR is not part of the equation, journalists often end up playing that role for them. In a letter to her staffers last week, Ellen too generous, said she relied on others to stay on top of day to day operations, but added, My name is on the show. And everything we do, and I take responsibility for that. How Where was she of what was happening on her set? So I have spoken to a number of former employees who worked at the chauffeur Ah, long time a number of years and who were in rooms with the generous and who spent time with her on set and said that they find it very, very hard to believe. That the talk show host was not aware to some degree and to some level of what goes on. Also, though, I've spoken to people who say degenerates doesn't spend a lot of time on set and does is may not be fully aware. Of the entire spectrum of the culture because she's not there a lot, which they also think is a problem. And because they say, executive producers kind of insulated her which again they also saw as a problem. You cover Entertainment for Buzzfeed news. How is this? Not an unfamiliar question Recent years Sadly, But how do you reconcile? You know what we know as this person who brings joy to so many millions of Americans and who seems so buoyant herself and human and the nature of the culture of the show that bears her name, at least as evidenced by the reporting you've done in recent weeks. So I think that is a huge part of this story. For viewers of the Allen Show and for former and current employees is that Ellen profits and has built an entire brand around thebe kind messaging that former and current employees say does not match up with their personal experiences on the show. And in fact preaches quite you know, they've experienced quite the opposite. You know, it's surprising to people. I think. Obviously, these allegations would be shocking against any show. However, I think it stings a little harder to viewers and two employees who had to work in that environment. That was Chris. Really Jandali. She's an entertainment news reporter at Buzzfeed News. Christy Lee, Thanks so much for.

"So there's been a lot of rumors, and we've mentioned them before within the last few weeks from past employees and of the show that say that it's a very hostile toxic work environment that toxic on like Severina View Hall and her people are mean to other of he ball. So now Ellen has finally spoken out via a letter that she sent to her entire team on DH. She is apologizing to her staff. Her PR mid. Her PR team, right, has a apologizing amid amid this probe into this toxic culture, she says that she turned a blind eye to claims of sexual harassment and bullying by top producers. And she suggests in this letter that she writes to her team that there's going to be Isam people that air got going to get fired. So both does she get cancelled? Does she get cancelled? No, because she's taking responsibility but up. You mean because she's a leftist, right? So she doesn't get cancelled because she's on the left because there's a bunch of sexual assault, sexual misconduct allegations here, But she doesn't get cancelled because she's Ellen. Right eye. He's owning the problem. But if you're on the right, and this happens, you're done. You get cancelled. You're totally done. Oh, I see. I see other rules work now. Yeah. I mean, I saw I actually saw they worked a long time ago. But I'm just pointing it out. I'm putting out the obvious again. Now there are some employees that air like now she's known she knows this goes on. She just doesn't want to hear. Britt. This is too little too late. But Andi, and she's a total diva, right? And yet you can read her whole letter. It's been, I don't know if it was released or if it leaked, But in any case, it's I saw it, I think on Hollywood reporter dot com, where the whole letter is there, and there is a suggestion because she says something like, you know, I should have. The show has my name on it. So ultimately, it's my deal, and I just trusted senior leaders to do what they were supposed to do. Clearly, they didn't and that is going to change. And she's really not. The Queen of nice is what People are finding that the queen of Nice was Rosie. I don't think Ellen was called the Queen of what is she, then? She's like the high Priestess of business. I have no idea. I don't know. I really don't care. I just think it just shows you that all these people are such phone. My God, They're so ridiculous. All of it's dumb, but I mean some of the claims about the leaders. There's some executive producer. Apparently, I've got Ed Glavin on DH. He apparently was known to make employees feel Comfortable by rubbing on their shoulders and their bad. Oh, yeah, he was very hands. They said. Very, very hands. E So ah, And just like that fire and she was like, whatever. And then you hear stories about her being like like saying Don't make eye contact with Ellen. Yes. So did that come from her, Or did it come from these weird leader people? I don't know. So it's interesting cause it's like one of her head writers is being named as a problem. So yeah, Okay. All right, so there we cared about it for your kid that much. We're gonna get just working much care as we can. There's your can other There's your caring for it. Okay, So what else are we talking about Doing? You talk about all this docks and going on. There's a bunch of Doc's such a rabid Swifty's out there guys is about your Taylor Swift, ma'am. We got a bone to pick with you. You guys stay tuned, but I'm pretty certain that most people listening need a vacation. I know Ideo. And if you want to get the heck out of dodge, but don't have the time or resource is to go too far. You should think about a staycation at four wins like signing a marina, just 15 minutes outside of downtown Bloomington Boating Beach Nature trail..

Keeping the heat owns overpaying paying right to start with something current. Can we start with. What's that well? What's happened happened today? What we did today? What we did today was Josh Gad? Guest hosted the show he did and the four of us you know what else here you know takes a village on Ellen but I pour but today Josh Gad was guest hosting I wallow so we took that as an opportunity unity to divide and conquer a little right right so Kevin and Mary did the show here At an I know we watch Kevin Wonderful. I watched the whole Shush. Josh Gad was terrific guy it was yes he was terrific he was easy going. He pitched fund jokes. He loved all the material. He had nice things to say about everybody Eh. He was really fun. He was really fun to work with and an easy he was comfortable frigging worked hard at a whole song. He was audible in all of it. He like went out to rehearsal early the and worked on his song and like it was it was entirely enjoyable right so we go we every day whenever we do a show. We do a control room meeting. which is the meeting right before we show and so Because Josh Gas Mr Broadway and Mr Frozen we did a special thing in the meeting the control room meeting. We said the role of Ed Glavin. Today it's going to be played by Kevin Leman Andrei because the what they do in the theater. 'CAUSE ED wasn't under study Kevin was that YEP so they'll lauren was in the booth breath. Lauren is Kevin. Yeah Yup today. That's the job amy child was Melanie. Right Yep so those were those were our basic changes and then I go off and do the show right on the floor on the floor with the with the audience and the host right. And what did you do in the control room. I put my headset on. What does somebody did? He imitate. Add the whole show. I just did add key moves guy. I pump my fist when the scare work real nervous jittery before it corey out that does scare me. It does scare you. I yelled at Terry. Well see as you were doing it for Josh Cat. I do it for Ellen. I believe me. I don't WanNa disappoint our gasset right. That's like the towel. This was the only thing Josh Gad asked for your guest hosting the only thing ask for is that he wanted to scare Adina Menzel. And I'm suggesting to you that when I Q Corey Ellen. It's much more of a high wire. Act uh-huh ed. Made this story about you being ed about Ed I we need to get video of queuing. Ellen Ellen scared because it was pretty funny I've not seen it. Share Point is during second and I know what you do. I watch every day during the second commercial break I get a phone call. It's Josh Gad. Can you come over here. Things feel unorganized. uh-huh Josh do me a favor. Kevin and Mary really good people give him a chance. He called me after the show and said you know what you're right. I stuck with them. It wasn't so bad. Oh Take my God elevated quality about the Josh Gad. Show believe wasn't a ruin we just we just cut the dead weight but I will say Ed is very communicative on the headset. If putting in a photo oto if ED's changing something if it's doing anything he's on the headset to make sure that Andy and I on the floor. No one point at at one point and Oh and Matt Wright played the role of Andy Today on the tag not easy Hashtag not easy but it won't got a lot of demands hands. Oh man you've got it. Kevin was so quiet at one point over the headset. Matt's head Kevin or are you in the control room because I gotta be honest. I'll show you a picture. There's a thousand buttons in front of me control my headset each button. Talk to someone different and I've never conquered how to make how to who can hear me scared to make a joke. Well I don't know the things out of the show. I have no clue what's happening all my God. It's like it's almost like a little birds chirping so fun. All here's the other thing in the in the and the meeting so on a regular show as as we've just talked about. Ed Cues Corey to scare that. And it's a big thing. Big timing box in a table set that is a comedy cue for example the guest. You're scaring needs to be looking at Ellen or the host or Josh yes or the host. Or as if they're looking away they're not gonna see the person when they pop out. Yeah right okay. So we're in the control room meeting Kevin Kevin we've now learned. has this button phobia and Kevin Turns to Korean. Go So Corey Ula take your own Q.. On the scare exactly I said so. The Queue Line is so the queue line is. You're not sick and me and then you'll do the scare ad if there's any problem all interjected stop you you know what if we each whatever home style well exactly would stop him so every conversation on the coffee table it so happens was texting. Get over here yeah. So that's when I believe there was one time I couldn't hear Mary and Matt Yelling at me for a picture. I couldn't hear what they asked for them looking. I thought I heard you say do you have them at Disneyland. Well she wasn't a picture so yeah right so we got through the scare. Okay timing unbelievable so then Evan Rachel Wood perfect she glazed over that. The scare scare was scare. Scare was scare nothing thing may Josh Gad. Happier did that scare and a gift. He's ever been given you gotTa Channel so Evan Rachel Wood is also on the show and she tells a story about how she was on her way to Disneyland when she got got the call that she was going to be in frozen. I have to start off with the fact that even though we're in the movie together I only recently met you and your son. This is true. Oh at Disney Khan and I was like boot. This is this is Olaf. And he's kind of looking at him. And you're like I got this closure is and then you said in his ear. I'm Olaf and I like warm. Hugs and my son just goes. It really was.

You have a game of games created by Kevin that you guys are all executive producers on we all work on that takes a lot of time. And now, you're doing this podcast. Obviously, there's gotta be something in it for you to give up this kind of time. It's a complicated equation. It's a fair question is it is a very fair so who wants dancer, well, the good news is we're all getting paid the same. That's true. No, we're like the friends we're like the friends cast. We get paid. We when we went into this thing, we said in this negotiation. Exactly, we are negotiating as a group, and I'm keeping my clothes and. And we said no matter how contentious it gets no matter. We are going to stay United as a group. So yes, one gets paid. We all get paid. So we all took no paycheck together. Answer is we get paid nothing. Yeah. But I love it. Yeah. We love doing it as conversation hope is one day Ellen buys each a home. Is that fair? It seems like it seems reasonable amount of home. She buys. There's got to be a few. They toss. Right. And that's why we do this. We do this podcast on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the hope that somehow some way she will buy a home. "Hi, it's Ellen Degeneres. Welcome to my podcast. We're gonna listen to some of the best moments from the show, and it's going to be hosted by four executive producers that I love, happy listening. You guys today's episode Ellen on the go, Jennifer Hudson sings beautifully. Even when you can't understand what she's saying. Yara Shahidi talks about running for president and my favorite. The eleven year old rapper lay impresses us with an epoch performance. I'm Mary Connolly. I'm Ed glavin. I'm Andy last ner Kevin. Leman. What are we talking about today? Locked going on here. Let's start with Jennifer Hudson. All right. Okay. So we have a lot of celebrities on the show and process wise. What happens with some friends. Not as many as you think you are. That episode, seven, that jokes going to get really ill. Oh, wait. We're on episode eight. Oh. So Andy reviews the segment notes for all of us celebrities and the producers often pitch Andy games that we may play with those celebrities. And then we pitch Ellen those games once Andy's approve them. Right, right. So we had Jennifer Hudson on the show, and we wanted to play a game with Jennifer Hudson, and to be honest, we couldn't come up with a great idea, right. So in the morning, the producer comes in and pitch his Andy, the ideas, we're sort of waffling a little bit. We pitch out on a couple of ideas. So at noon, we're gonna. We're gonna do the show at three at noon. We don't really have an idea for our second act of Jennifer Hudson that we feel is strong enough for Jennifer Hudson that we that we love because we love. We love Jay HUD. She's always a great guest. She's always fun. She'd had a fun time last time. She was here with a different game. Yeah, we want to try to capture that again. Yeah, so two o'clock in the afternoon to fifteen in the afternoon, Corey preventer and Elissa coat. Two of our producers come into the control room. Elissa has the speak-out thing. The thing that you put in your mouth that opens up your lips so that you can't really. Close your lips and pronounce bees and peace. Correct. And they and they proceed to play this game with us where they attempt to sing song lyrics with the speak-out thing in a list as mouth. And that was funny. Then we knew we knew we had the game so minutes before we take the show, we decide this is what we're going to try to do with Jennifer Hudson with a lovely Jennifer Hudson. And since she's here today, we thought it would be fun to play a musical version of our game speak out, but it's now sing out. So she's going to sing a song lyric and I'll have to guess what the title of the song is. So you will put this in your mouth and then. Okay. Do you know which way it goes? No, but I'm gonna figure that all right. Yeah, that's on the right. Nope. The other way. Oh, this way. Wow wrong. If I. Oh, yeah. Oh. Nope. Nope. I feel like I'm at the dances. Little needle sideways? No, not inside. No one goes on one side. No. All right, and you're gonna sing. I don't know what this is, but you're going to sing this. Okay. Baby. Such pretty cheap key. He's back stint. I'm back selling, producer, assistant, and now we all basically were married. We hired her. What about you? We hire Kevin, we promote them and we made him guy Mary. What did you do before this? I started my career in television as page at NBC in New York. It was probably the best job I ever had. I met friends in that job that I'll have for my entire life. It was a great job because I didn't know specifically what I wanted to do in television, and that job allows you to do a bunch of different things and fun fact, I worked in thirty rock thirty Rockefeller plaza at the same time as Ed glavin Andy last nerve. And all three of us were working on different shows. I was working on the David Letterman show. Ed was working on the Donahue show, and Andy was working on the Rosie O'Donnell show, and we were all in the same building at the same time and did not meet until years later, but I was NBC page. I got hired to work on the David Letterman show is a receptionist. I stayed for. Ten years left as a producer, moved to California for a number of years. And then when back to talk shows and was hired to launch the owns generous show, and you introduced us to some of the people, you've introduced us to some of the people from the Letterman show in their brilliant and you got the Letterman show and Dave to allow us to use his theater when we took the Ellen show to New York right years ago, we went to New York and and the good folks at the Letterman show starting with Dave allowed us to use the sullen theater. So Ellen did a couple of shows from the Ed Sullivan theater in New York City. And that was just highlight for me and just Zelter in my brain of doing two shows at the same venue. And she's like, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, I can't wait, and she won on Saturday and she was in the chair with us on Tuesday. So Naomi, if you saw her post game interviews, if you saw everything, she's very reserved very kind of closed down and she, she came out and she sat down with Ellen, which she has then told us was a dream come true of hers to be on Ellen and Allan just loved honor, and Ellen just just chipped away and got her to open up. And we learned that she had a crush first of all, congratulations. You are the champion US open champ. How's that sound to you? It sounds really sounds good something you dreamed of. Yes..

"Hi, it's me Dame Judi Dench. I'm kidding. It's Ellen isn't weird how much we sounded like though, anyway, welcome to my podcast. We're gonna listen to some of the best moments from the show, and it's going to be hosted by four executive producers that I love. They have been with me from every every single show from the very beginning so they know a lot. And if they say anything that I wouldn't like, please tweet me happy listening on today's episode. Nikki Manashe gets personal about her love life, Ellen dozen, impromptu g m a day interview. My boyfriend Mark Wahlberg talks all about a dump truck. My girlfriend, Anna Kendrick, performs the rap. Welcome to our podcast. This is very exciting. Thank selling for that nice introduction. I'm Mary Conley. I'm Andy lasts ner. I'm Ed glavin. I'm Kevin Leman the second. So yeah, we're really excited about this podcast, Ellen Nastase if we were willing to do it and we said, sure and asked her how much we'd get paid for it. And she said nothing. And so here we are. I thought that was a joke when getting a penny for this. Anyway, we're very excited about it and hopefully you'll be listening to us every Tuesday and Thursday where we're going to give you some of the clips that we really loved from the past week show and also give you some behind the scenes of how harsh, oh, gets made every day. We always like to be highly topical in our premier, and nobody seemed to be getting more press this summer in the entertainment world than the Queen herself. Nicki Menaj over her album drop over her Queen radio. She was trending on Twitter and we said, any chance we can get Nikki for our premier and she showed up what I will tell you about Nikki Manashe is that Nikki Manashe does not disappoint. I'm not sure if this is a, this is a easy thing for these guys that to to accommodate or or not, but you enjoy exercising three times a day. Well, I would set what you say. Yes. It depends if you have someone that you don't see on a regular basis, it's not like if you living with the person that you see them every night. But if you see them, you know, like once twice a week and yeah, three times a night when I see you three times a night. Okay. And if you can't hang goodbye..
