WTOP national security correspondent JJ Green joins us live from Krakow and details about this and and Sean these weapons are what Ukraine needs to get to the next stage of this war they need to get through what's going to be the second winter of this war they for need weapons the winter as well and so the Pentagon is sending them mentioned as you a quarter of a billion dollars more in assistance including weapons like rounds of ammunition mentioned rocket systems missile systems and also they're doing other things like providing line sweeping equipment and they desperately need that in the south and east because that's a part of the reason why the counter -offensive has been taking such a long time talking with officials in Poland today they say they won't judge Ukraine on the slow nature of this counter -offensive because they recognize how difficult that work is and these weapons that the US is sending to Ukraine should help them to speed things up but at the very least will help them get through what could be a very difficult winter fighting Russia again. Reporting live from Krakow, Poland, JJ Green, WTOP News. JJ, you've got briefings today from several Poland's top military and intelligence leaders. They are seeing the effects of this. How do they see this war going at this point? Sean and Anne, Poland's national security advisor, a top defense official and the cabinet official responsible for information security are all focused on one thing now, a stark rise in Russian attacks Poland on or inside Poland or near Poland. Case in point, I took a train from Warsaw to Krakow tonight in eastern Poland, not terribly far from the Ukrainian border but in the last week there have been multiple reports of sabotage attacks over the last week. Now, this is pretty minor stuff. They've slowed up the trains, but Jack Siwera, who is the national security advisor, told me they're seeing increasing numbers of Russian attempts to conduct these kinds of attacks and much more serious things which could lead to loss of life. So they believe this war is going okay. They believe though that Russia is stepping up its hybrid platform warfare and that's a part of the reason why they need these weapons. That's also a part of the reason why they need for its allies. Ukraine needs its allies to continue to remain strong and resolute in helping them they need them to fight Russia to weather the storm they're in right now. Back to you. Every single thing we do can save a life and can have one more kid come home from school or a movie theater or a grocery store or just their regular neighborhood. The building has been left untouched since the 2018 massacre with bullet holes and blood stains still visible that will be torn down later this year. "Title things. There's a direct correlation between dogs and lightning that and welcome back to the show. Rick tittle with few coast to coast and around the world on the american forces radio network. It's nice to have sports writer greg. Us of the athletic. He has a brand new book called champa bay the tampa bay buccaneers unforgettable twenty twenty championship season which he has written with joey johnston gregg welcome to the show. I know that you've been working in tampa bay for a long time. So let's just go back a year. When tom brady announced that he was coming out of retirement and it was exciting to think about what he could bring. And what bruce arians would do with him but knowing the doldrums that the franchise had been an was kind of window dressing. Did you really believe you had something here. At first it has super bowl team as first year. I knew they'd be better You know they've been playoffs and thirteen years. So i think you knew. They were a playoff team at that point. But i didn't expect this kind of success. I you know what i said consistently was that if you get in the playoffs and tom brady is your quarterback. There's a pretty good history there so I didn't think they would make good on it so quickly. but put together force four grade playoff games and they've got a championship to support. And you think about the money. They spent on those big names on the defensive line. They drafted the kid white. I wanted the raiders to pick with the very next pick. He was a revelation. And i think a lot of people really not until the playoffs. When you shut down reeves and rodgers and mahomes running for is live that you really start to appreciate what todd bowles in that defense had to offer. Yeah i felt like as much as you know. Brady threw ten touchdowns in the postseason had an absolutely great postseason They they won. They won because takeaways and pulling things away Like you said to go through those three. I mean that's a murderer's row of of postseason. Quarterbacks burris rogers mahomes. They've all won super bowl. Mvp's and to end their seasons in succession like that. Two of them on the road I thought was just an amazing accomplishment and again that they'll be able to return a decent part of his pretty young defense So to see how much of that they can do again here in twenty one. What is the relationship like with the glazer family. Because you know we know. They are in charge when they want super bowl thirty seven and it looked like they were going to concentrate on man united and i man united fans didn't want yankee ownership but the overall is kind of a love hate thing like with all fan bases and their owners. Well i think the fact that they had one in so long was a frustration But i think you know you look at the glazer family and put a lot into investing in this franchise You think about going to get bruce arians Paying to get todd bowles and get him a three year. Deal defensive coordinator you know. They've spent the way they're supposed to. I think anytime ownership group or a family Has their hands in two different teams. I think both sides are always gonna feel like the other getting the attention and the funding and the resources up but no. I think they complaining. It's probably been more on the manchester united side. And i would have said that even before they wanna superbowl here. You know i. I was the raiders pre and post game host the year last year and land. And of course. I wanna say the year. Antonio brown was with the raiders. But he really wasn't with third graders last year outside of some camp drama when he came in did you think. Hey you know what. This guy was on his way to the hall of fame before off. Field problems He can do nothing but help. Or did you. Kind of think We don't need a malcontent like that. Where where were you on that signing on sure i mean and it's funny because when they sign antonio brown and they were sticks into Didn't look like they really needed help at receiver. Mike evans chris. Godwin and scotty miller And then you know what happened. What hurt antonio brown early. Is that their first. Four games with him He had no touchdowns they lost three out of four. So there was that weird coincidental. They messed up their locker room chemistry by bringing in eighty And to his credit antonio brown kinda kept low-profile didn't say anything didn't do anything wrong. And then you know how to stretch where he had five touchdowns in five games and had another one in the super bowl so You know once you got past the initial apprehension of should this guy be in the. Nfl does this guy deserve another chance. I think he did everything he could to. Not be a distraction to not do anything negatively and kinda. Make the most the opportunity. I don't know whether he'll be back here on a on a modest deal or we'll get paid to go somewhere else. But i'm curious to see What his mark is like here. A couple of weeks and free tickets go up more questions. Gregg allman author of the new book tampa bay speaking of free agency. We know the. Tom brady has a year left on his deal. But we also heard. Recently that the gm mr lashed says that They're thinking about maybe signing him to a few more years you look at the way he played you look at brady saying he wants to keep playing would probably be smart to sign him before he does. Enter the the lame duck year. What do you think yeah. It wouldn't surprise me i. I don't think there's that much of a threat of going somewhere else. I think he enjoys here in tampa and his age. I don't know that you need to add a third stop As well as the second had gone. So i think you know by adding a year to his contract didn't get some salary cap help. They definitely could use that right now as many as they have You know brady's already a pretty team friendly deal to be tom. Brady and making twenty five million a year when a lot of less proven quarterbacks are making more than that He's already kind of doing them a favor but if they can again they can add a year or two years. Want to get him to forty five That's something that would definitely help the team. And kinda helped build a winner around this last year for you know when i think about Champ obey we've got the stanley cup champs there you got the al champs there and the raptors when the nba. They'll kind of be champing faith as well so I mean it's These like the holidays right now or do our. Our people fully appreciating. What's going on down there as much as you can. During a pandemic. yeah absolutely. Both parades here in the last six months which is crazy. Yeah this is a town that had kind of been beyond the the lightning's recent surge in you know had of been starved for for postseason relevance. You look at the box. They had gone thirteen years without a playoff. They've never had all three teams in the postseason at the same time. It's kind of like right around the time to raise got good The bucks kinda gave up the playoff habits where a couple of years so yeah to have. Everything happened. All at once and altogether. There's been a really Kind of support system between eighteen stamkos is a big bucks fan and they brought the stanley cup. Two books home game in october right after they wanted There's been a lot of back and forth Just friendly support between the team. So it's really been neat and they have them all obviously have the success they had is something that very few cities can can really say they've enjoyed in the same stretch of of seasons. Like this. you know what. I think about the raise. And they don't like the trop obviously and they're trying to get the ebor city and then they said maybe we'll play in montreal half our games. I know that dick vitale said after losing price and longo. I'm never coming back. And then they went to the world series in doubt that snell got traded is never coming back again. I mean.

You're on free talk live hi i just wanted to say welcome back so glad your path I also wanted to say that You may not realize by tom. You are rush. Limbaugh of Of libertarian radio mark. are you saying mark. Welcome back mark your rush limbaugh. Is that what you meant to say. Why because you realize. I disagree with you most of the time team andy's adjourn. I haven't gone anywhere so it couldn't have been talking to go. But you ever been on saturday and sunday nights. I have not sunday's i haven't heard you in weeks. In fact i gotta be honest. I check in every saturday and sunday at no disrespect any other unnamed people. I i go to something else because not even you're on the and i haven't heard june long time. I don't find you see and in the fact that You know I you know we can disagree. And i don't have a problem with that. I want you guys to realize taste bad Just like rush while none of you would be there. There were only two hundred radio stations When he first started thirty years ago and now there are thousands of their way. More than two hundred radio stations know that did talk radio. And and he is He's been credited for a podcast. Says they wouldn't have was one of the early ones you to know. He want you to know that you have well hold on older. Hold on before you. And i appreciate the kind words but let's let's clarify. What one thing. Dana getting to that is absolutely true. We benefit from the world rush. Limbaugh helped create. Yeah that's fine. And i gave him credit for that earlier on the show tonight But to give rush limbaugh credit for podcasting is inaccurate. Rush limbaugh was not there at the beginning of podcasting. Were podcast when we were free in the very early days he came out with a very early podcast. Yes i don't think so. Because i know is also a bad. He was a but nonetheless. You know he was. One of the front runners paid thing as a podcast. A podcast is an rss. Feed that gives automatic delivery to subscribers. So you look just. Because the dude had archives on his website doesn't mean he was a podcast. I'm sorry that's okay okay. So tonight just the definition. But can tonight. And i'm not gonna get into semantics with you. I just want you to know you. No and i don't mean just mark. Youtube i told you guys before you're the yang and yang with you. Doing you know any of the other staff fill in for this show or not fill in whatever you call them ian. It's not the same as with you and mark. Whatever that thing is that russia had you guys have it and people think radio is a piece of cake to do something for an hour. Two hours much less three hours like you guys or like rush is not very would be less interesting without our wonderful callers and thank you dana for the call tonight. I know what the words the what i know. What the that she's referring to like. Because this is what the consultants say too is. There's some magic that goes on between us. It's the seething simmering. Hate that i hold for you. The disdain for your crappy opinion but drag is on the line listening in new mexico portrayed. You're on free talk. Live listening to you guys. If it wasn't for paul. Harvey de giving away my age. I just want to hear the rest of the story. I wanna know i wanna know what. Aoc's network was before she became a congresswoman. What is now what. Nancy pelosi network was before. She became a senator this year. Now what joe biden networked was before he became a senator and what it is now. Where do they. Where do they get their money. Special insider deals deal with their cronies. Okay and they get the votes by doing what by the way around a drag but you mentioned all democrats but the republicans do the same thing. So let's just be okay. Yeah ok ted cruz. You can go there all the things you want your left hand cut off your right hand cut off. You know that you have your choice. But i just wanted to know where to get the money from. Oh well it's it's the story. I mean they get it from people who are gullible enough to believe that governments. You know that as it functions today is a good idea. We can't live without this. They get a fraction of their money from the people that are gullible people they really get money from the corporations who know exactly what bill cla gullible people. But they're getting money from the. He was talking about how the politicians get money. They get donations. They get straight up handouts from corporations who want to use them to pass. Whatever laws are going to benefit those corporations and it's the same old stories. It's been from time memorials. I mean even before there were corporations there are still special interests of of the lobbyists by the corporations for the The politics and that's going to change until washington d. c. is done away with and then the same craps going to happen at your state government and still does it does happen at your state. Government is just at least then. You know where those guys live. I just. I just wanted to know how to stop it. How do we stop that flow of money to them. Because that's what they w- power okay so if you wanna stop the flow of money to the politicians. One thing you can't do is you. Can't stop them from printing money out and they're going to keep that printing press role and as hard and as fast as they can the money printers gonna constantly here in twenty twenty one and beyond that. They're that's their plan. So here's what you do to stop that you can only stop it yourself. You can't stop these people from making their deals and scratching their backs and rolling their logs. Or whatever it is they're doing in dc or state capital. You can't stop that for. Cannot the port. That will never stop. It doesn't matter who you and it doesn't matter who vote for gay but what you can do is you can vote with your money by purchasing things that are not dollars with your dollars that could hold their value precious metals or crypto currency and these are things precious metals of course have thousands of years of being used as money invaluable. And they've done a really good job over time at at sort of holding up against inflation keeping you up against The government's inflation. So that's an old solution. Course cryptocurrencies like bitcoin are newer technology. Some people are a little concerned with them But over time they've been doing very well over the last decade. So you take your money that you've earned and put it into things that the government can't take from you took gold that's true You can always buried the goal if you If you wanted to take our kids are gonna be leaving this country for better places to go. You are migrating up to new hampshire. You've already bought some property up here so so you're taking action not just complaining. I looking forward to being in the shire tomorrow afternoon for the cripple. Meet up nice. They're a great show. Great show tonight guys moving with your you know Voting with your feet you know the the tyranny in connecticut it just it just gets more and more painful every day and i just couldn't i can see that freedom i can feel that freedom in the shire and you know and people are moving to florida. They see the freedom that you know is available. Their headline fox thirteen news. Tampa bars penalized for violating covid. Nineteen safety measures so they are cracking down at least in. Looks like ebor city perhaps and tampa florida Demanding that businesses follow whatever stupid rules. The government is shutting down their throats. So i mean. Florida is definitely ranked as one of the more free places. There's no doubt new hampshire and florida are kind of in a one and two spot depend. Hampshire is pales in comparison to florida's freedom on the covid freedom charge though new hampshire's middle of the pack like number twenty three sure but on the overall freedom charts. what differences. If you can't open up your business right now open up your business in new hampshire. Yeah well in fact. We've got a great business here in new hampshire here in keene called fuck keen great it's local fund noodle restaurant and they are and there's no signs on the door and you don't have to wear a mask and the owner refuses to wear a mask and she's a hero so that's fine but You know when you up here. In new england. Well what we have. Our new englanders and new englanders are scared to death. This kobe thing. They think they're gonna die down in florida people. The same sort of people say ages. Same demographics are running around. You know go. To grocery stores. Going to bars. Going to restaurants. And somehow in new england i immigrants level of compliance down there given that there's not even a mandate. You said there were at least half the people wearing masks least half. The people wear masks and brush restores. Yeah but i mean you don't have to worry one of our mutual friends steve who comes to to fourteen. He's down in florida for three months he goes. I'm just going down there for the winter because it's it's open right. People want freedom and florida is free right. now now. Hampshire pales in comparison to that. And i don't and i'm not going to with with aunts pot. Look i got it. Quarter upon new hampshire is the only new england. State that has legalized marijuana open. Carry in florida. Who wants to open carry so you can be the first target of somebody. Start shooting plenty of people open. Carry up here. Yeah you can conceal all the shootings. You can get a concealed. Carry permit in florida okay. yeah i know what the process this is. The thing is i about here. These these abstract forms of freedom. Have you carry permanent florida. I'm of convicted. Yes so you don't know own a black powder pistol with do in florida. And i can't new hampshire. Cause new hampshire law says not true so go to hell new hampshire. You're not free but you got a lot of libertarian. Sure complaining about freedom. they're not complaining action begging politicians. No you don't know anything about it mark because you don't spend any actually paying attention to what goes on here because you've got in your head to go over on some island somewhere and you're going to be a bad plan. I hope that it works for you. I really do. I wanna hear of if it's a success. But in the meantime the new hampshire liberty activists which are a growing number more people are migrating here constantly. We've had more visitors coming up. You're not just stephen connecticut. He's a regular. But it's a veiled lots of to no not really. I mean there's hardly anybody leaving these days. I'd say eighty percent of them have come to keen of left There've been there have been people who've left over the years but in recent years we're retaining a lot of people in fact more people are coming here than ever before hampshire. You can be free if you go to saipan. Go to the us marianas. And they're they're gonna look for two weeks. I don't know what they're doing that earlier tonight. Don't know if they're still doing that. Program or not but he left her. Yeah what did new hampshire due to you and that same period of time. They gave the house arrest the entire state. No we were out partying in central square. They didn't do anything to us. That's because you're not worth bothering. But they did tell everybody. They had to shelter in place. They written made guidance recommendations to people and People who love freedom to shut down businesses. They did and that's and that's sad. There's no doubt about it. mark isn't a free place. The whole point of this is to have a project of people who come here to try to make things more free. Yeah you're not gonna take one thousand five thousand or twenty thousand people and drop them into a place with one point four million people and have any long-term effect. Well that's where you're wrong. I mean there's been dozens of people who've been elected here in new hampshire. Getting somebody elected doesn't give me freedom. Libertarians the libertarian party. I know it does. They said liberty in my lifetime and lloyd. Dan fourth died a decade ago. Okay yeah look. It's just a marketing. i'm not. i'm not here to give the politicians begging the politicians for the rest of my life. For who just can we have just a little more freedom. No i'm not. I'm going someplace where there actually is freedom. And i'm glad i'm always poop to it. I said i hope it successful poo. Poohing it is safe to you if you want to hang out with libertarians. Go to new hampshire. If you wanna be free it's go to the us marianna place in the united states. More than it's more than just hanging out okay. People are doing activism here. There are people like the the new hampshire liberty alliance. You've done for twenty years here and it hasn't done anything yet okay. You got passed up by florida last year. You gotta understand mark. These things take time. You're not going to change. The city's got a lot of excuses for a lot of people that will lock a lot of people. Up over victimless crimes. What are you talking. You're just making excuses for the state. No i'm not yes you are. It takes time it does. It's not easy to change things you have to understand. You're never gonna bother to get his never going to get. I was elected three times a delegate to the state convention. I put my time in. I know what it's like. It is a waste of time. It is a treadmill upon which they put libertarians so they waste their lives and you were complicit in it. Okay well you think you're going to go island still on the phone. This is great and keep going. Well he will keep going because he doesn't care what's happening in new hampshire. I do any attention whatsoever. I now i told you on the show. If you live in the northeast and you want to run as a politician and get elected this is the place for you. Okay but you're also pooh-poohing all that and you're saying it's a waste of time and you're telling all these people that we want freedom. He's a waste of time. Why not go someplace where you can be free in saipan. They've got the crown jewels of libertarianism. Already your your taxes are cut in half immediately just like that. i drive there from connecticut. No you can't drive now but the news is neither can the status from connecticut because new hampshire has a real demographics problem. And we we call the mass holes vermont stars and maniacs. And they're all going to find out that libertarianism brings prosperity it brings happiness it brings longevity and they all want those things and then they're gonna vote just like they vote before come across. The border lives so glad. Debbie downer is back on the air here negative nancy. Thank you steve for the call tonight. I appreciate it the toll free number or not not toll free number six zero three two eight hundred sixty one sixty you have to pay a toll six zero three two eight three sixty one sixty or not you can join us here and talk to mark. That'd be one of them there that who's down and then earth save like i don't know if i don't get my own stadium i leave. What about that in the second. Let's go to the phone lines. We have mario until a hassi. Mario humid here and warm. I can't wait to get out and moved to vermont benefa- breakfast and live life as a rustic business person. So i bought my heart. Yeah i'm going to have three three idiosyncratic brothers and a very personally Innkeeper to help me out. That was daryl and his brother. Darrell hair i have to tell you julia. Duffy has really a duffy. I you know. I always really liked her. I thought she was really bad. Maybe i don't know. But i thought thought mary fran on that show was smoking. I mean The new heartwise newhart spouse on that that Vermont show holy cow. He was the days of our lives when i was a kid and alec founder to be very very attractive i think he passed away but she was. She was a lovely lady. Julia duffy in the seventies was. Yeah she was good stuff. I don't know if she was ever a whole love voter. Never on the love boat. I that's one that escapes me at the moment. So we were talking about the super bowl and draft picks and such and i did not realize 'cause i went to look it up because you had expressed your desire that the that The raiders up devon white. It turns out in one pick above that they took cleland feral. I don't know yeah. But i didn't i and i thought this is he's a serviceable player. But when you draft. I guess that was the fourth or fifth. Pick in the draft. When you're drafting a defensive lineman that high. He's solid or somebody like that or you. Hope he's zita he's not even serviceable. It's a shame by the way. I just looked up julia duffy. I do not see a love boat. How about this when she was on. one episode of lou grant. You know what the name of the episode is what. The name of the episode of says nineteen eighty-one lou grant. She played the role of charlene name of episode rate. God holy crap that byline man nine hundred eighty one. Just just flat rape rape god. I mean they use nevada. That came out after that i guess. Holy cow now. I can't remember the cast of that show too pretty well. There was an actor on their Robert walden it was a very good actor remember him. Wreck z mafia got. It is despicable character though. Yeah no no. In in terms of his character on the show. Yeah but he he was also an all the president's men i remember that yeah i remember that and i can't remember what he was. One of the low level eight or something wasn't he. Yeah he was like Mcgruder somebody yeah. Somebody like mcgruder. Carl you would have has lived through that era so anyway. I thought that was as i read that i saw that name. Oh man it'll knows that. And i knew that the second he said. Let me tell you dude. There are two guys on the defense that made all the difference in the world. One was devon white. Being used way. I think he probably should have been used earlier. This season and the second one. And as i texted my local guy here Jeff cameron tremendous show by the way. Have you ever want information about football. That's the gotta go to I said you know man. We went from being a team capable of pretty good thing. 'cause like maybe getting to a championship game but the split second i. It was rumored veto vale is coming back to play. Now we're talking now. We have a chance to win the super bowl. Because he's at he's that kind of on the everything got better wreck. You know you've been watching football forever. You coaching if you can get pushed up. The middle and getting people's faces frees up guys on the outside and you can win their one. They can win their one on one match ups. And that's it you know when you say Tampa bay radio. The co- the comedians always talk about this radio guy. He's a big fat guy but he thinks he's a comedian to but he's supposed to be a good guy. Mike kultida now man. I'm talking about talahassee. I don't i can. Yes i i you know. I called the nfl station when they were about to. Sign radio rumored breaks and i called it. A carjacking humid crap'll and never go to since my father passed away. I will never have the occasion. I left my mother gets sick to go to tampa again. The rule is i have kids. I have a family. You wanna see me. Come up here not i'm not ever going to. Thanks for the call. It's mario in tallahassee. Let's go to las vegas listening on hbf. Mike made on my. Hey i want you to help a man. Dayton lincoln's two hundred twelve th birthday. Can you do that for me. Yes this is also. it's funny. You remember that because my grandmother always told me that this was her birthday. So it's actually my grandmother's birthday. Thanks reminding me anyway. Yes go ahead. About abe lincoln. Yes okay well. this is it. And it's quick we don't call the Atlanta braves atlanta baseball team. We don't call the tanzanite to kansas city football team. So why is dan snyder holding us hostage by calling it the washington football team. I don't care what nickname you choose. Pick aside and then leave it alone. That's the way i feel about it. Well i mean you have a point You know. The cleveland indians for getting rid of their name. There are some people who even think the golden state warriors should get rid of their name. I think it's because the When you say braves and you say chiefs those aren't Epithets they're not insults redskin was seen as an insult. So i think it's a little more harsh than the other ones do you get. You agree with me. It's a little more harsh absolutely. I always said that. Set it for twenty years but the what. That's not the point. The point is he expects us to call his team. The football team and i'm tired of it. That's how i feel. Oh i see what you're saying. Well he i know that that they could go with a certain name or not. But i think he just wants to keep it w. f. t. and it's it's getting in your car you know and people have said about wfan. I'll leave it at that all right. Hey thanks for the call. I appreciate it. Thank you all right. That's mike in vegas. He's up to here.

"All over miami and so it's really interesting to again tracy origins of this ingredient that we believe is essentially cuban but created by an immigrant living in the diaspora. So cuban bread is crispy on the outside soft on the inside it creates so many crumbs when you buy into it and it has lard in it because the most cuban thing you can do is something like bread instill make it have park in the ingredients. I still remember the day that i found out. Cuban bread by itself has like eight hundred calories and one slice. If you've ever had a cuban brennan you think how is possible. Because cuban bread in itself is so fluffy and airy on the inside and it's all it's all a lard. One of the things i used to do. When i was a kid was now. I'm like wow what an asshole freda by parents used to buy cuban bread and on the way back home. I stick my little kid hands into the center and eat the core of the cuban bread and leave the outside. The inside was like so chewy and saw. That's where the good stuff is. My parents would come home in the they take up the bread and it still looked like it was intact ahead just hollowed it out. Yeah you can't have a cuban sandwich without cuban bread. I will say that one more time for the people in the back. You cannot have cuban sandwich without cuban bread cool. We can move on now. The next thing is back in the day it was made with pork ham turkey genoa salami swiss cheese sour pickle slices and mustard on this cuban bread. That was the sandwich that immigrants were eating in ebor city. That at the time was not called a cuban sandwich that was called when mixed because of the mixed meets later. The english speakers began to call it. A cuban 'cause they watch those cubans eat those sandwiches and they were like well. This is a cuban like that's really there's also a specific restaurant that claims to have created..

"I was just thinking of like a really dramatic scene at panera or just like a walk in and and like storm right out. No one knows why no one knows why that knowing me. I would totally pull something like that. Just imagine a cuban sandwich on lake focaccia bread or like on an italian bread or something else. I'm trying to get carmen to throw up. Which actually isn't that hard. Wow freedom brought that here in you for that anyway. Back to the cuban sandwich we have. All these controversies. There's a bunch of people cities and more who have opinions about the sandwich and now it's all over. The place is panara So let's dive into the first controversy right the question of how is it possible that the cuban sandwich may not be cuban So like any part of the cuban sandwich from the island. It's actually very difficult to pinpoint the exact moment that the cuban sandwich was made. And who exactly made it. But i've read that more than five hundred years ago. The diana tribe began making asaba. Bread made from yuga and started making the sandwich at the time. They had not yet been colonized by the spanish and so he didn't have any pigs. So part was not quite yet. It was believed that they made the sandwich with stuffed fish and bird meet at the center and the bread was still very crunchy. Because it's yuka brad. It would be more like a cracker than really a doughy bread. So we're going to say that. That's the very beginnings of this concept and then later on it completely morphed into a different sandwich. I think we're we're starting at is describing. The earliest account of a sandwich made in cuba by cubans the original cubans. I would say diana's who were one of the many indigenous people existing in the caribbean was saying that this is the first iteration of the cuban sandwich we have today. But let's say this is the first time a sandwich was made in cuba. It was known as a sandwich after the finals. Made this fish and bird me inside these crunchy cracker europeans as we know mainly the spaniards came over. And we know they brought pigs and so meats like pork and ham being introduced at this time into the native diet as well. There were sandwiches in cuba before the cuban sandwich that we know today came about afrita. Does it even matter to mention cuba. Because is the cuban sandwich cuban. Well let's get into the people living in ebor city. Ebor city is spelled. Y b o r. It is in tampa and so in the mid eighteen. Hundreds pre revolution tampa as well as new york is where you would find a ton of cubans because a lot of cubans came over to work in cigar factories. But it wasn't just cubans right carmen. There were other people anymore city in the mid eighteen hundreds the cuban tobacco industry. I came to florida specifically in key west and a little bit later. It moved up north tampa specifically ebor city and with these factories. Cam lots of immigrants who came to work not only cubans but spanish italian and jewish people. I mean tail is oldest times right. Immigrants show up at a place in the work that they find his in factories. These people need a quick affordable lunch in their break of the day when they're working in factories and so that is where we enter with the cuban sandwich the development of the cuban sandwich at this time begins with cuban bread. Many of our listeners may never have tried cuban bread but cuban bread was actually apparently also invented in tampa so there was a a bakery called. Loeven francesca orlova an francisco bakery established in the late eighteen hundreds by a sicilian born francie school friendly the who was actually a cuban spanish italian immigrant like what concoction. What a combination and so. It's believed that he created the particular style of bread called bread which we now find in cuba as well and we find.
