"United States Senate of a vote of 95 to one senator Holly being the only objector have now decided to expand NATO. This is done with zero understanding. I'm sure some senators understand this, but zero understanding of how Russia views NATO and the expansion of NATO. You know that the ruble is more is a stronger currency than it has been the last couple of years since the invasion. The petrodollar is stronger than ever before, Putin's popularity is higher than ever before, and they have more resolved domestically in Russia than ever before. Dr. Irwin Redlener on His Work With Traumatized Ukrainian Children

"You are as one of the superheroes of the Stephanie Miller cinematic universe. You are in Poland doing helping Ukrainian kids. You tweeted we met with a hundred teachers from schools in lviv, talking about psychological trauma. They're seeing among children who mostly with mothers had to flee for their lives from towns in eastern Ukraine, teachers having a rough time we are committed to helping. Just talk to us a little bit about what you're doing over there. Yeah. So the thing is that since this atrocious horrendous brutal war began when Russia invaded Ukraine, and nobody thought they would, although they were warning signs, we also added, they're not going to really do it, but they invaded and bombed the hell out of and they still are eastern Ukraine and southern Ukraine. And it's caused a, what's called the largest forced migration movement of a population since World War II in Europe. And so in effect, what we've had are all these lives of families and particularly children that have been disrupted because it's either moved from the far east of Ukraine to the far west of Ukraine or they moved out of Ukraine entirely, which is why we're in Poland. Huge numbers, millions of children and most with their moms because their dads are both mainly in the military. These children have moved to other countries predominantly Poland where they don't speak the language. They left with hardly any of their possessions, including leaving behind things like, you know, their eyeglasses. And they're living in these very very, you know, sometimes extremely bad shelter situations, although the Polish people have been incredibly generous. So our mission over there with this our new foundation, the Ukraine action project, our mission is to try to make sure the kids are in school. If they're in school, are they learning in what language are they learning in? And hopefully it's Ukrainian. And secondly, to make sure they don't have medical problems that would interfere with learning. But part of the problem is these kids are so psychologically traumatized. And the teachers, anywhere, teachers would have trouble dealing with classes like this. So one of the things that Karen, misses goom is working on is having the training programs for teachers to learn how to deal with lots of very traumatized children in the classroom. That's what we're working on. Both of those things.

First things first, I don't know how long at least a year since you've been on the show so much has happened in that time for those who haven't heard you before, haven't seen of your herd of your podcast. Let's have a little summary. Your former CIA operations officer give us the what is it they call it the elevator pitch, the D.C. elevator pitch, who is Brian dean Wright, where does he come from and what does he care about? I'll tell you what, I am born and bred in this country, love it, eastern Oregon, my family has a farm in ranch. We've been there since the 1800s for about ten plus years. I worked at the CIA as an officer, an operations officer, so I went out and recruited spies, stole secrets, and then for some crazy reason I got involved in the media world and started writing a bit. And here we are, all these years later, you and I have been able to talk in studio and otherwise, and then having this podcast now. We're doing great. We've got many, many tens of thousands of listeners in just the past four months. So I'm pretty excited about what we've been able to accomplish. Well,

"Last team in the east last team in the atlantic may end up the first place team in the division. The toronto maple leaves and we should probably start to the with the injury to ilya mckenna's socks that was tough balanced on monday. But i hear it's going to be a little bit. Yeah so then. They had probably two guys. They're gonna have to put on waivers on sunday. And they only bronx in mario basically got the job because of it. It's a tough loss for them because mikheyev it so much approve this year. I think he's pretty devastated by. It really sucks. I'll tell you this. I like bunting you know. Kasha same question can be healthy healthy. Stay healthy think. Richie is kind of what they need. I think they're faster than they were last year. Which is not insignificant out. Tell you this you know. We started this podcast with carolina. We ended up with toronto. I just wonder if the goal tiny's good enough. How go okay when you look at a team like toronto you. One of the things that makes tampa a freak. I think is how great the goaltending is. And i've always wondered if you took like a nine twelve or nine ten. Save percentage goaltender and plunked him on the tampa bay lightning. How much would really change. So by my question about the leases. What's the magic number for. Save percentage normally say man if you had a goaltender like the nine to fives deep run in the playoffs. Can the maple leafs do it. If the goal is are like nine ten do they have enough firepower high. I think they do. I like monir on the power. Play what they've done with him in the bumper. The spot for him. Yeah i like that too. I do think they have enough firepower. Do but i just think they don't want that like this whole amazon show is about keith. Getting on them like you got to play a certain way. You gotta play a certain way. They're going to be thrilled with shootouts. All season long or that kind of way of playing all season long to me. That show sends a message whether they intended to do it or not. That show sends a message of how they feel. They should be playing. So what you're talking about. yeah. I can't imagine jeff that's what they want. You know what that amazon peace and will end on this and part. Two of our season preview comes up here in a couple of moments. One of the things that i promised myself i would do to annoy you. This season is bora phrase from sheldon. Keefe in the amazon series. All or nothing series and mentioned it to you until you punched me and you know what that is. I got news for. You don't have to think of anything new to be annoying. I think you'll like this one. And i'm really what is with all your stanley cup habits. Every time i see you have a cup of coffee before a show. Elliot good stanley cup habit. No but you know what that's not going to bother me. Because i believe in that you don't understand like i'm going to find your last nerve and puckett like a fiddle stanley cup habits. I wanted to build it into our conversation every single day. That's not going to bother me. I'll tell you why it's not going to bother me. Because i actually think the same thing about on air. There've been times. I go on here and of course we all have shows we all do but you know you look at the match. I'm like oh my god this is terrible and i. I'm like stop. I have to think of. This is game seven of the stanley cup finals. There's no other way you can prepare for it. So i like to call those stanley cup broadcasting habits and i believe in that okay that just i me okay. Maybe i won't use it so much. All right good stanley cup habits could stanley cup. Podcast slut good stanley cup habits in this podcast elliott's Hoping enjoyed part one.

"Setting really good goaltender ottawa. We risk dating this podcast because when it out the deal may have already been done. Can't talk about audubon. Without talked about brady ca chuck. Did you watch our exhibition game on saturday night. I did elliott. I again with open collar very controversial. Well you know what I just like everybody to see like the sweater. I wear underneath the shirt. So did you hear my take on on cacak. Yes so essentially. We've wrong your take on. This is towards the end of the game to you said. Look second emission remission. He said something along the lines of look. If he's not gonna do the long term deal bet on your team right now in the next three years. You have a lot of good young players. Take your shot now while he's agreeing to that three years. That's what i would do. I see people saying oh well if you only give them three years one year walk to usa you know to me. That's loser thinking that. Is you just saying that. We can't make this work no matter what the key thing is here one. He likes playing there too. He's with guys. He knows he likes playing with josh. Norris drag bathurst. Tim stewart slow. Alex berenson all these guys up front chabad on the blue line. He likes it when he was drafted. He i don't think he thought he was going to like it. He likes it. Don't screw with that. You have to say if you're ottawa. We've got a good young team and we've got good young players and we have to bet that he's gonna wanna stay with this and if you can't get a budget because i think this i think they need a great start there's always uncertainty. There's questions about the size of the ticket base. Get him in there and get off to a great start. Get them done by wednesday so he can play by thursday. That's what i would do if i was auto. I'd say fine three years. Let's go if you're not gonna bend. We need you hear the call in white injury. Hurt ya but there have been some positive signs coming at a training camp most notably shane pinto. Who i think has turned a lot of heads. Very good. I should've mentioned him too. I think they're i wonder if they're going to go out and get a center. I don't think it would surprise anybody. It makes too much sense. There's a couple of things about ottawa for me. One listen that that top line if they can get pretty good chuck back in the mix here soon with northbound thurston and get checked. That's real good stood continues to look better and better and every time you see them. You see even even saw glimpses on saturday freed game that you were working with with david and jennifer like every now and then. It's like okay. There's tim's law. This guy is going to be fantastic. Alex form straight line fast. Like just blazing speed nick. Paul says a hard worker conner brown still one of my favorite players and the you like connor brown a lot too. There's a lot of reasons. Ottawa i keep coming back though. Too big question marks in net and. I don't love the defense yet. I think one day this defense is going to be good. It's just not going to be anytime soon. I guess not this season that ottawa's can have good blue line. How do you see the sense. I'm with you on murray and the feeling on that he looks better like physically. He looks better. he's bigger it looks stronger and bigger. I've always been jealous of him. Because he's a really skinny guy. And i haven't been skinny and thirty three years. So you're jealous of matt murray twenty-seven-year-old nhl netminder who. When he's skinny goaltender played junior hockey member used to say he would turn sideways and vanish but he looks bigger. He looked stronger. I like that a lot of the other things too is yet. I agree with you on the d. But like i said every teams flawed. And they're kind of starting over like we're taping this on sunday night the to me and adam brooks waiver claim here makes a lot of sense. Dj smith yup maple leafs association the tampa bay lightning the defending stanley cup champions. Who have had you know. Part of their arsenal depleted Most notably the entire third line. There we made and for good reason a lot about but this is still a team That has brayden point. that has kucherov. That has sally and stamkos and headman and surrogate chevy and mcdonough and the big one andrei vasilevskiy. So where do you think they feel like. They should finish in the regular season this year. I don't think they care at all. They don't give a flying you-know-what at a rolling doughnut regular season. They'll get themselves ready. They'll they'll make sure they're in a good spot. Don't care just get in. And then just say we'll deal with this. But i do think you're right and that line was funny. I was talking to glenn. Healy on on saturday night. And he's tap is gonna win again. I said there they lost that line. He's like glenn. Nothing and i'm like wine. They've got some nasty guys there. You know the the bell mars in the and the perry's room. Those guys are maroon. But they're a little bit older. I don't know how much you're putting a lot of those guys in second line minutes which is basically what the gorge goodra coleman line wise. So that's the one thing. Like how do they deal with that all year. And that's a huge hannity. How do they reinsert that. That's my only question about this team. The only one. I have. And i think that barbara is getting claimed. That's a tough player to put on. Waivers he's not getting syracuse. No against syracuse. I'll tell you what we're gonna see a lot more of this year. We're going to see a lot more. Ross colton and from what we saw last year. That's a good thing as good player. And you're gonna see a lot of ross colton beside corey. Perry and. I don't think he's going to replicate that word line but trying to put together a third line that that does some of the things at that line did. I don't know man. Ross colton corey perry together. That's a pretty good start isn't it. I it's fantastic..

"Year it's clear. The rangers thought they were a club not a team. And they're banking on okay. Everybody's a little other young players year better and we've brought in some edge and you know now we'll see like will this attitude. Make us better. I am a big believer. That attitude makes you better and you know what if you come to work with a good attitude and you a healthier teammates and you try to elevate your teammates. You're going to be better. And i think the rangers are banking on that too. We've talked a lot about the philadelphia flyers and their changes to their blue ryan. Ellis rasmusen lane. Keith yandell We knew the chuck fletcher wanted to do something about the blue line after last season and he did we know that they need a better season from carter. Heart should probably mentioned that first. Because that's the most important elements but as far as the philadelphia flyers. Go without kevin hayes to start for me. It seems as if people are in one position higher than they should be In this lineup. And i would circle. Derek preferred there. I mean that's that's the hey spot he's comes back and pushes brisard down and everything just fits better. Essentially what i'm trying to say is there's still question marks about heart bouncing back. I think the blue lines better. But what i do know is it doesn't look like that forward group outside of the first line which i think anybody has any questions about at all. It just seems that after that. I'm not sure that everything fits for the flyers to me just yet does it for you. The thing is i look at it this way. An idiot two game season jeff. You're never gonna how many times you're going to have your full lineup. But don't you think the flyers need big start right away. I think so. You know we haven't got two teams who i think are the two big question mark teams in this division washington pittsburgh. Yeah yeah so. We talked about it earlier i think columbus does. I think new jersey does. Because i think they could really build themselves. Something start philadelphia. Obviously but like. I look at philly not in the same way as like a columbus jersey. I think philly's another team where they attacked attitude right And one of the things that chuck fletcher told people is that nobody escapes blame for last year. He doesn't the coaches don't and the players don't and they made changes to the players by you. Know they also ask the coaches to make changes in the way they dealt with things and also way that fletcher deals with things like last week in the blog. I wrote about how carter heart. He had a situation where his personal goalie coach is is doesn't schwartz coaches in edmonton and is coach. There kim dila he went on ice with them for two days in edmonton in the off. Season is the first time they ever did it. Now kevin woodley. Who's the goalie whisper. I listened to a podcast. He did the flyers daily podcast and he talked last year. About how hearts base. Whatever schwartz an hardwork on. Whether dila wasn't familiar with it or wasn't comfortable with it or couldn't fix it last year because there was solo practice time. He just got lost. This patsies and you're right like for a lot of different reasons environment. Just being one of them it seemed like it got away from them. And again. I i think i don't want to reiterate what i said on our last conversation too much but i still think there some elements of the game but to me didn't look that they either from the guy that you know. I grew up watching and and predicting big things for. I thought there were things. He got away from as its foundation. And so you almost need a reset of both. In my opinion and again this weather tim carter agree with it will affect whether he goes back to the things. He did in the summer or try new things but a reset of his foundation. And if you're resetting the system getting him to trust that is going to be a big part of this and you don't honestly it's going to have to start out of the gate. And as i was listening to a podcast. I was doing my work about it. I was like how come it took until this off season for those three guys to work together and then another goalie coach said. Well how come the golden coaches teaching carter heart. And i was like because goalie coaches are nuts and he laughed and said like philadelphia. I think top to bottom. They looked at everything they did in this organization last year as a team and said we have to be better like we were. Just were not fully functional. We weren't optimal and you'll for example. One of the things. I kind of glossed over in the blog last week which someone said to me. Do not underestimate how big a deal this was is. They talked about their communication with heart. Like how they talked to him and how he's informed of things and like i just think philly did a really harsh internal deep dive on last year season. And not only was it changes on the ice. But i think it's a lot of different things and one of the things that i heard. I ask chuck fletcher. Well about this and it was. True he said was that last year at the end of the year. They told connect me you know. They could've traded him like dad. A lotta people asking about him but they said no we we believe in you and we want you to come back next year and show us why we believe in you and they said he showed up and excellent shape. And i'm not going to use the best shape of my life because i know everybody laughs at that but he said excellent shape and we asked him. We said show us the were right to believe in you. And they're like he did and so. I'm really curious to see how this team gets out of the gate to the pittsburgh penguins and to the washington capitals penguins. I by the way let me just say. I hope as is back as soon as you can't. I'm really rooting for rally. We're already for kevin as this year. All industry yeah. I hope he gets back quick and has a great year. I listen. I don't care if you're a pittsburgh. Penguins fan boston bruins fan. Like doesn't matter everybody no matter what. The rivalry is the philadelphia fliers. Everybody's cheering for that guy. And everybody should be cheering for that guy. Let's get to the the keystone state rivals. You're the philadelphia flyers pittsburgh penguins. No malk until january crosby. We're looking at the end of october ahead. Talk it on my program. Last week Who's now eighteen and hubert up a really good point. And i asked brian burke about it and he said yes. That's true talk. It said really the penguins. They'll play the islanders. I mean can put. I don't care what anybody says if you watch that series penguins on a lot of great chances in Obviously the goaltenders were great and Jury had a tough ten days. So i like what happened in burke. They didn't blow up the team. Because of that They cap the team relatively intact waiting for the big boys to come back. And i know solve. Keep those guys their head above water for seventies a team that should challenge for the dutch phone title. If we get a couple of days in a couple of bounces we're going on and were beaten the islanders. Why are we talking about blowing it up. No malkin across to start. Covert situation was asked aspirin. Reason and jake cancel new faces in like danton heinen. What do you make of the pittsburgh penguins jeff. I don't have a good answer for you on this one. One of the things people are talking about with malkin is that you know if the olympics weren't this year 'cause he badly wants to play. What would his status be We just don't have good.

"Goes through the center but these two wingers are complementing themselves. The likes of which we haven't seen since that battery in chicago don't know if it's gonna last the entire season we've seen line gordon the ditch before ditto for a check but right now it looks really really good for each those two together like to me. It's about pride like when sports net fires me. I'm going to the next place. And i'm going to show them that. They made a big mistake right. I you know. I think last year the whole line dubois thing was both of those guys have a newly signed life and you know in philly. They basically said we got rid of all the guys that we just didn't think fit here anymore. And if you know that means you so what are you gonna do about that. Like what are you going to do to say look. I know that they're saying i was one of the guys that was a problem like it was me. There's only one thing you do and that is you go out and you try to shove it up there to me. That's powerful motivation. And i've got to think for four check. That's going to be that way to new jersey devils Dougie hamilton in ryan graves in too much tatar in we hope for health for everybody specifically that forward unit that's been dinged up before a hello nico. He scher Another season of development. For jack hughes and there is the mckenzie blackwood situation. Looks like now. he's edging closer to getting the jab. What do you make of the new jersey devils right before camp. We had this situation before he had an appointment and changed his mind. So we'll see where this goes. I do have to wonder if in addition to you know we talked about this on the radio the other day if a team was depending on me as much as a team was depending on blackwood. It would be hard for me not to do it. I just don't think i could the other thing. I'm wondering about here. Jeff is the the olympics You know everyone's talking about him number three potentially for canada it's not the case if he's not vaccinated so there's a lot of reasons professionally both for his team and for his own personal goals for him to do this. Let's see where it goes. I think jack who's going to have a big year. i think new jersey is like columbus. I think they have a chance to be better than a lot of us. Are expecting like all of a sudden. I'm looking at pittsburgh. And i'm looking at washington and i'm seeing some of the injuries them saying you know what if new jersey can come out of the gate hot what if columbus can come out of the gate hot. What's that gonna mean. And i think this jersey team i think they have to start great. I think if they start great. I'm really curious to see where they're going to be like at the all-star olympic break i liked the devils to donate a playoff team quite yet but as far as taking the next step. It seems to be there right now for the devils and to your point if everything comes together and dougie hamilton. Who's always in the conversation for. Nora's has a big year. Ty smith who. I think we both love takes another step in his career. I know you like siegenthaler allots. There's another young defenseman you mentioned hughes mentioned nico. His sure they could surprise my big question. Them is depth scoring after your top six whereas your production coming from with the new jersey devils you gonna have a big year is going to be soon. Listen last year the contract. It's a contract here last year. The contract and i'm not saying that to say that he's just a guy who will suddenly wake up at the end of a contract but we know what contract does to people and i think you'll you know. I think you'll be very motivated. I do jimmy signing quick thought on that one well first of all did you see is tweets immunity hilarious You know. I have to say first of all. It's having a conversation with someone about the whole thing in in the amazon video. Where in these things. Somebody's always made to look back right. And in this piece you know. He's kind of that guy with keefe and later dubious when he put on waivers and someone said to me today that when they saw him put that tweet out there like first of all they sent me no. Does that bother you. And i said no. I thought it was hilarious and good for him for doing that. Because there's going to be people who saw that amazon series and then saw that tweet and they're gonna think about them a little differently and this was a person who thought that. Got kind of unfairly maligned. Because it didn't work out for him and you get caught in that and they said that they were very happy to see him do that because if that makes someone feel better about them. That's a big win for i laugh. Thought it was great. Because i know you and how would you would have a lab and i think you actually tweeted. It thought so i i sent him. I said i'm really sorry about that. He laughed he was really good. It was good okay. Good times good times for the islanders. the past couple of seasons I know they can't get past that tampa hump but nonetheless they're poised for another big one andrews lee returns hallows. Act parisi back with lula. Morello ends dana chara returns to where it all began for him in the nhl. Do you have a thought on the islanders. I really liked them. Obviously they were my first pick in the In season stanley cup saw. Obviously i'm all aboard the train. A couple of people. I was talking to..

"Duty doodoo coming down in three to end when you got it yourself this time. Okay welcome once again to thirty thousand podcast in. What has become an annual tradition here elliot. We're going to go through all the teams in the nhl in advance of the season. But i some thank yous at in season cup first of all actually before we do that thanks to caroline cameron and david amber for stopping by and doing our season cup podcast. The other did thank them again. We already thank them. I'm trying to be gracious here. Okay i know that's a foreign concept to elliott but being gracious is something people find commendable. So i'm being gracious to killing cameron and david amber for stopping by. I'm also being gracious and thankful for at in-season cup elliott. This is a grade four and five class that have actually taken this your premise of an in season stanley cup pool and are actually using it as a quasi math project and essentially and this is why. I'd like to thank the myself doing all of our tracking work for us. Yes like the way that they've laid it out to looks really good like discipline. Really significant and serious thought put into this and they've grabbed a lot of the animation. From nells brits who does the animation for burkey. So thank you all right. So the The school is gladys speers public school in oakville ontario. I've asked if we can post a photo of the class of course in this day and age you need permission teachers students and their parents and that's all being worked on but at some point we're going to do it now. Just wanted that jeff and say thank you very much now. First of all. I was blown away by the reaction to this. The amount of you who want to do a pool of your own. And i think it's great. The whole point of doing this is to have fun. And i hope everybody has fun. But you guys had really good questions and the obvious ones was what happens over. The all-star break the olympic break in the christmas break and the way it works is those days. Don't count like. I think there's a big difference between a game where there's nobody playing but it's in the flow of play and one of those specific breaks so you don't count the days during those breaks. That's the way we always did it in high school. I have a question. Yeah i thought of this on my way back from the rink this afternoon. I know this because it really annoy me. Okay yeah this is going to be good. Yeah okay what. If a team that has the cup Has an outbreak in their games are postponed. We'll cross that bridge common to it. I thought that that was my thought. Is you're anything else from the season company. What if it's like last year there's games going on while the plastic going on around is gonna explode. We'll cross that bridge when we come into it but basically the brakes. Don't count folks. I think that might be elliott. Friedman carney for if i'm in the lead the days count. No i wouldn't do that. I know i look dishonest. But i'm actually pretty honest. Okay so there we go. We have a lot to get to you by the way we're dividing this. Podcast up into too easily digestible podcasts. So we'll start with the first one. I was going to be eastern conference seconds. Going to be western conference. I know there's a couple of big new stories out there. The levy trade. We're going to get to that when we talk about vancouver the barkov signing get to that and we'll talk about florida's bene- jad when we get to the rangers. We will talk about that deal as well. Meantime start in the metro start with carolina The kotkin yemi situation entered derek. Step pound bear coal anderson ranta out hamilton out. Fogel your thoughts on the carolina hurricanes in the metropolitan i like carolina alight. I think they're a really good team. I'm not sure about the goaltending. That's the one thing. I look at their and i just wonder about. Is their goaltending. Going to be good enough. I think the rest of the team is really good. I think they're going to be an excellent regular season team. They made a call on the dell. Kovic and i think carolina's very much like that. I think it fits to their identity. We assign you a value and we don't go over that value but now they have a situation with a rhonda who they've liked for quite a long time and anderson. You know again. I just look at that and i say when this is all going to be over. Is that going to be the achilles heel. That gets them again. I liked their team though. I really do. Golfing has been the question. We've asked what the carolina hurricanes for a number of years i got. I don't think that's exclusive to these two just because they're the to quote unquote new guys. Columbus blue jackets inter vora check inter rally gustav. Nyquist returns a couple of rookies in colesville cylinder. Chenikov jake bean bookfest on the back end. What do you make of. Brad larson squad. Well i think they're going to be better than a lot of us are giving credit for. I think this is a team. That's going to be in a lot of games. I really liked the goalie. Combination of moore's leekens incorporate. Sahoh i think a lot of people are expecting that this will be corpus all those last season in columbus but i think those two guys are good goalies. Even though it's tortorella not there. You know brad larsen. He's not tortorella but he's got a similar attitude in the sense that he believes that hard work and your willingness to grind is critical to your team right. So i think that maybe they don't have the same head coach but they've got a guy who believes in a similar kind of identity and i and i think a lot of the players who've been there for a while or who've been in the system. I think we'll understand that you know. I just don't know if there is deep is other teams in on. Not crazy about them down the middle. I'm really curious about what they're gonna do with cylinder. Here's like is he going to be their number-one stander to start the season to me. One of the biggest things is lying. I mean we saw that beautiful goal. You undressed everybody's young studies side or the other night when they played detroit if line is back to being line a. That's a huge difference maker for this team. I think they've got holes. I don't think they're a playoff team. But i do think they're going to be a lot better than they're getting credit for it. I think they're gonna give teams fits. I'm with you down the middle on the one hand. It's wonderful that an eighteen year old just made the columbus blue jackets But what business do they have. Having an eighteen year old. I line center with the columbus blue jackets drafted twelfth overall. But he had a wonderful camp. He looked really good. Chenikov looked really good. Remember remember we talked to bob hartley boat and he was laughing at us and he was laughing at us and he gets the last laugh because janikowski just made the team one thing i do want to point out to how good for a check has been in the preseason specifically with patrick line and i was sort of equated to a even though the they're both wings and they play opposite sides of the ice. As you line up for the face off this kind of feels. They came to me that they are you know..

"He wrote a book about it. It was me it was me. And it's like you got caught though. I was living in china. And then why were you caught i if your master by not the flex you think it is weird. Flex another guy named james grace. He was one of the twelve who escaped. He just showed back at eastern state by himself. Because he was just like you know this this life of being on the run and stop for me and my god. It was hungary. Oh that's sad in a way it's did to be in there so i don't wanna give him too much pat. It's okay yeah probably like it is. It's it is very strange when you like that will happen. Yeah but they come back. And i like a charlie manson. He was like. I want to be in jail forever. Yeah and they were like no. No sorry. No you really don't have to. Yeah you know on the running for everyone no now. Finally frederick frederick. To new toe is found with one of the other escapees like he was found with james. Botchy van zandt and they were the last two escapees to be found. It took the police two months to find them so they had something going on. Yeah and isn't that time. The botchy guy created the game of botchy ball. He did crack. You know without him. Young we'd never have botchy..

"You were strapped to a chair. Oftentimes they would gag you. Oh my god it was just like absolutely tears wild. The final form of punishment was the use of straightjacket. They would just put you in the strait-jacket gag you and leave you in a cell for a few days and honestly that alone to me. The idea of being in a straitjacket not being able to move apart of my body like for days and days like they're saying days when i'm sure it was like weeks and months said oh my god i just makes me want to be like so messed up now This really famous fellow. One time visited the prison. I don't know if you've heard of him. His name is Charles dickens oh no no. I haven't heard of him in rings. Do anything special couple couple stories i like. I'm like a nobody writer. Pretty you know. I think it was a pen name. It's like a blogger. He's blogger and you had a tumbler. We'll charles dickens that big deal guy. He visited the eastern state penitentiary in eighteen. Forty two and he actually was allowed to talk to some of the inmates and he was so depressed by the entire visit and he saw that the prison was not doing things right like no matter. What their goal is to begin with. What's happening here is fucked. And he hated the idea of the whole solitary confinement thing and actually in his book american notes he wrote quote. the system here is rigid. Strict hopeless solitary confinement. I believe it in its effects to be cruel and wrong. I hold this slow and daily tampering with the mysteries of the brain to be immeasurably worse than any torture of the body. Move in and of itself was like somehow even worse than like the going through. The mental stuff destroyed all of it packed together. I can't how do you how do you get through that. Yeah i just can't even imagine so clearly when conditions are that terrible for the inmates there are bound to be some escape attempts at the very least and the eastern state penitentiary had its fair share of attempted and one completed.

"I mean you're implementing these new rules. The league put out the video the other day about a foul drawing. I mean that will impact certain teams more than others and i think atlanta's at the top of that list. Obviously trae on. I'm curious to see the way that plays out. Is it something that you could just take out of your game immediately. And it's not a problem. Is it something where you're gonna be firing four shots a game trying to drop out you. Don't get a call for if it is. That's something that they're going to probably lose some games because it sounds really small. But i mean it's it's not. I mean particularly with the team. That is young. It does blow leads occasionally a team that makes twenty six point comebacks in the playoffs. Appoint here. they're actually matters quite a bit. And if you let's say you cut trae. Young free throws down by ten fifteen percent all of a sudden that matters a whole lot around the margin so. I don't know exactly what to expect. You could make the argument that they're going to be better than they were last year. They brought that more guys than i thought they would. This past off season. It didn't actually seem like much issue for them to do that. Their owner talked as if they were gonna let certain guys go then. They really didn't so i'm curious to see what happens with them. But i'm putting them at five mostly just because i think that they've got upside from what they did last year with all the injuries. So i i want to tell you where i had atlanta and then i'm gonna tell you who i added my six we gotta bounce back one slide for atlanta hot take year incoming Their number three for me. Wow wow okay. Yeah and i just think that you roll the roster back and you're building on what you did last season you get to the conference finals. You probably would have gone to the finals if trae young doesn't step on referees foot. After march first. Nate mcmillan took over for loyd pierce. They had the second best offense and the second highest point differential in the eastern conference. So you have those numbers on your side. You resign john. Collins who has spoken publicly about how contract situation really affected him throughout all of last season including an article that That i wrote about him in an interview and he gets one hundred. Whatever million dollars and i just feel like he could go up a level trae. Young is probably you know. I didn't really honestly factor in the rule change. That's really good call by you and you had me sweating when you were talking about it But i do think the trae young enough to improve the pull up threes..

"And like zach levine. Got cova late and they just never bounced back. After that i think lonzo and crucial will help on defense and also opponents shot forty seven point three percent against them in the mid range which was the league high mark and i feel like that should drop a little bit in their favor. I don't know i'm not saying that. Their defense is gonna be incredible or anything like that but it might not be like dead last. I think it can be you know closer to league average than last and that should so i'll agree with you but i want to look at one thing if i could put up quickly enough. Where were they defensively. Once they made the trade for bitch. 'cause i mean i think he's a the kind of person that makes a difference. Where having him in there you kind of or conceding that you're not going to be great so i'm trying to look it up and see if i can was in march. What was the trade deadline this year. I can't remember march twenty fifth. Something like doug. I can't be remembering dates from the last season. it's making trying to look it up. I'm i'm gonna try to look at real quick. I will say. I have it right here. Post all-star break. they were eighth. they finished eighth. Yeah defense last season. So i wonder if some of that was also what you're saying about levin out okay. Maybe i don't know if the bulls. I'll put it this way up. The buzzer top ten defense if they finish in the top ten defensively. They're going to be. They're going to be either a top half of the playoff team in the east meaning like home court more. They're going to be knocking on that door. And i don't quite see that. But if they're that good defensively and they added all this offense. I think it's certainly feasible. That they do that. I mean there. Their offense would have to be underwhelming all the taliban just added for them not to be in that conversation if their top ten defense. So we'll see i okay at that point. What reason would they not be atop if you're a top. Ten defense in their offense has three all stars in it at that point I don't know we'll see we'll see. I'm really intrigued by them. I wanna see what happens with them. So who is your number seven. I don't think i my seven was the raptors right. So remember the knicks at six. I put the celtics at seven and this was one that i think we kind of had a little bit of a fundamental disagreement on last week to whereas that i didn't quite trust them and then i think it's a little bit weird did not have really a starting caliber point guard now. I'm not the biggest fan of schreuder. But if they add him was it. Sounds like it's one of the last realistic places. He could kind of land. I might be a little bit higher on them. Like i'm not a huge fan of his game. But i also see how adding him there. You don't have a starting point guard. Where that would that would help. And it takes a little bit of the pressure off of someone like tatum having the handle it all the time or brown having to handle it as much as he would have to. So you know. I could see how that would make sense. They've got a lot more top end talent than i think. A couple of these other teams do just having two guys that i think are potentially going to be all stars for a long long long time and i still like some of your post play..

"With my eleven because like you said we had to select let me get my twelve. Okay yeah I'm sure that i actually. I have no idea where you have this team. I'm not even going to try to to guess. But i have no feel for them whatsoever. And that is the indiana pacers like you know. Rick carlisle's their head coach. I think that is definitely a positive. We know they're gonna play slow. We know they're gonna be a little bit better on offense. We know that especially in the half court they're going to be able to execute whatever you know. They're going to call a ton of time outs just the rick carlisle. Stampa there maybe trade bows turner this season. That's a little bit of a variable to account for tj warren. We'll be back He would miss basically last season with an injury. I just. I don't know. I don't know if like continuity is their friend. I don't know with everybody's sick of each other. I don't know how rick carlisle will mesh. I just i can't i have. I have no feel for this team. So i just i had to just kind of stick them at the bottom of the the acceptable organizations if that makes any sense so. I didn't do that but i did. Have my teams nine through eleven. So this was your twelve my my nine through eleven. I bracketed off and put in full letters. No idea i put the pacers in that nine spot while also acknowledging. I have no idea where they'll finish. They finished higher. They could obviously finish lower but what i thought about them was a lot of what you just said. They had really as many injuries as anybody last year. I think they were kind of strange injury. So i think they were the type that people didn't notice delivered after the trade needing surgery and you know basically learning that the guy you know had something that would have been cancer since by essentially had cancer so there was that jay warren missed essentially the whole year. Was it the whole year. I can't even remember at this point but tj more and miss that whole stretch. Jeremy lamb missed half the season miles. Turner missed a big chunk of the season. They discovered o'shea toward the end of the season. Who was a really nice piece for them and it sounded like they were dealing with quite a bit of turmoil within their locker. I'm just as far as whether or not these guys actually wanted to play for this first year coach they had. And now you bring in. Rick carlisle who is not necessarily the easiest personality to get along with but also has a championship pedigree to him knows what he's doing. And you know for the most part. The guys on that roster. You know from what i've seen at least are not guys that are seemingly that difficult to kind of get along with you know guys.

"Most of their young guys played a whole lot last year. And so you know maybe spurs development a little bit quicker city bay was really really nice for them last year. It was really nice for them last year and quite frankly to be there and have a point guard who obviously inexperienced from an nba standpoint. But it's gonna come in knowing what he's doing we'll be really interesting to see how the guys around him play off that and like you said olympic. I think we'll make life easy for them even easier for them. Even though i think a lot of people were kind of scared off by the money wasn't really that bad of know of signing as far as the money to have spacing big there instead of okeafor. Instead of stewart in particular will be really helpful for someone that is trying to get into the paint like kept cutting abbas so we before we started to record you and i were talking about how difficult this exercises and here is where it gets. Here's where like feelings are going to get hurt. I feel like Just because they're such a logjam in the east this season and so many teams that are flawed but also intriguing and positive ways. and so. i'm gonna. I'm gonna let you give us your number twelve instead of me because i feel like the pitchforks are going to be coming out from. This point is all alright so here we go i'm gonna plug the raptors in twelve. And i also have a big asterix here saying this is the team. That could still make me look really stupid decision. Because they've got look they're gonna be younger. They elected to take. Scotty barnes who. That was one of the couple of games that i watched yesterday in summer league. He looks really talented. They've got a lot of veterans on this roster. Still i mean guys that maybe not lay career veterans. But i think last week. They said that they're not necessarily looking at garage. Which i think he's gonna score a lot for you. He's going to be decent if he stays healthy You already have been bleed. Who again is not like a late career veteran but you know a guy that is a very good point guard. I think what it comes down to is. That you lost lowery. Who wins a lot of games for you regardless of whether he does much in the box score just a really really hard nosed defender. God's gonna take a lot of charges and play really saw defense for you But you've also got guys that every time someone's been taken out of the rotation for them you get in an ob to step up or you boucher to step up Someone always steps up for this team. I've always kind of referred to them as like shark's teeth that something else kind of comes up and and establish yeah shark's teeth we're going to change the name from raptors to the shark's teeth. So i think the big question with them to can't be lost as like how. How ready is ciocci. I'm going to be the play after his physical stuff the stuff he's been dealing with. I don't know yet. If there's like a clear answer to that but i that's where it starts to get dicey in terms of saying that they're absolutely in the playoff race easily is whether or not they're healthy. I think not having lowery and kind of going a little bit younger. And kinda handing the keys over a little..

"Have the best non max non rookie scale contract basketball jared allen. They just signed to a huge contract. And it was maligned in some corners. I think it's okay enough right now. and they have some other young pieces we we don't really know if collin sexton will be on the floor for the next year. That's one of the shoes that may drop. They may look to move him. We'll see but you know it's still it's still feels like there's several moves away from actually being good and a lot of this speaks to the upgrades that other teams made in the eastern conference than it is that i just than it is me you know crapping on cleveland. I think a lot of the teams got better. Yeah they're they've got some guys kind of in the middle of the rotation words what. Where do we go from here. Like what are they doing. I think osmond's A really good example of that where you were really excited about him. I i'll be honest that I love jared allen. You're not gonna find too many people that like him more than i do and still. Maybe they signed him with the idea that well as long as we get him on a reasonable enough deal even if we kind of run into a logjam here where we have him and we've got mobely. It's okay because we can move out if we need to. I don't know if that's the thinking but this is a team that has not been going out and signing centers trading centers whether it's drummond Guys that can play center. You know when you look at somebody like nansen. His skill set So i just kind of not sure what they're doing you know. And even with the sexton thing a guy that is really blossomed nicely on offense since a really horrendous start to his rookie year a historically bad start to his rookie year. Where guys in the locker room. We're kind of talking anonymously in the media about how guys weren't really a fan of his game that he wasn't looking to pass. I remember at one point at five thirty eight. I was like looking into the story about how it was literally the worst start in. Nba history really for some of them have been drafted as as he had been And then he started to turn it around and so basically went into a you know. I think the headline we use was like Colin sexton's not historically bad anymore. He actually might be good. And i think that's kind of what we're looking at a little bit. I mean it's still not much depends but he works hard. He can really shoot. He's become a little bit better of passer but they've got a team. That essentially has two point guard so to speak. They have like two of everything but like not of anything. That is so good that you wouldn't move on from it if the right opportunity came up so there are weird team in that sense. I had them at thirteen on my list. Not not fourteen but pretty close in that range rubio. Ads has slightly interesting wrinkle to them. I kind of wonder to some extent how he feels about that but he's also leaving a team. That was young. That had some pieces where you weren't quite sure with what's happening..

"Yeah i when. I was going to games in college to scout in to be in the press. Box meet people. I was leaving chicago. And so i would rent out of midway airport. Which was the fifty five from university of chicago midway rent a car. Pay a lot of money because you got to pay extra when you're under twenty five. Do not get driver yet. Drive down purdue and iowa notre dame do the game get back at about like one. Am drop it off amid wasted twenty four hours than i would ride the fifty five back home which riding the bus as 'cause june. Am is always a good time Do stu homework on the sea in china. Talk to anybody but yeah. I rented a lot of cars in my. I'm i'm a pro car. Renter this point then. She has to be twenty five to rent a car into the cost. It's an extra cost the younger you are you. you have to be at least eighteen. I think it is on the right. Oh yes you're more likely an accident because you suck at driving. I didn't my first car. Until i was thirty two so i mean no place to talk And it was out of college in new york and it was at indecisively. I was on a work trip. in columbia south carolina and i had to get designed women's hometown just two hours away and i had no way to get there so i just rented a car for the first time. Very nerve wracking rushing. Well i just didn't ever rented a car. So i had to call my husband and i was like so where do i. How do i do this one. Sign's follow one of the shattering stereotypes. Okay question four. pick a sneaky. Mvp candidate for the twenty twenty one season. How sneaky is baker mayfield sneaking sufficient is unpopular with this some people that you know. So here's the thing if you're gonna win. Mbp not about being good if of all very unfortunately it's about being on a winning team that wins the division that shows an improvement. That's pretty much. Mvp has been historically also Quarterback on which is baker right if bakers just not bad than the browns offense probably be really good And it's a story division right to win the afc north over baltimore even over pittsburgh in terms of the natural conversation especially with the browns being what they were last couple of decades Mayfield plus thirty. Three hundred at most bucks. Not that i would know that. Because i don't sports i just want people to know i did not send these questions beforehand. He had that plus three three hundred number off the top of his head. Which is degenerate behaviour. Okay question five. Speaking generous as always comes from lenny. Lenny says i want to know if you had a choice then would you rather watch. Ben simmons take ten consecutive free throws watch carson. Wentz tried to get to his third read on ten consecutive plays man. I'd rather watch the phillies aren't watch baseball. Get out of the situation..

"It's a good a good spot for ryan and get like the thing about average. Ben is it doesn't mean he has to be great every game if he gives you more than fifty percent of the games where he's good that's average even if he does crazy the other games and also with your defense your defense is going to be the bad teams right. We had a bad day ryan fitzpatrick against like the eagles. It's you're gonna win that game for you is fine. The they're going to be able to beat the bad teams. You need offense to beat the good teams so if you can get the good ryan. Fitzpatrick gains against the good teams. Then you know which is obviously not a good defense. But if he can then you're going to be able to get away with a lot right. You're going to be able to to win some games. I think they're going to be able to punch at the cowboys weight. Because i don't think that the cowboys defense matches up well at all with anybody level in washington. We have the the the same. Okaz me at right tackle as a concern. I'm very curious to see how they used. Curtis samuel because when scott turner was twenty nineteen as the oc. Well he yeah but right so in twenty eight twenty nine hundred when he was there in carolina when they were using current. Samuel samuel was right. Big field stretchy guy. I fourteen point six eight hundred two thousand nineteen that got halved. Seven point three and twenty twenty. So you have to make a decision here. If you're scott turn in terms of what was he. Most efficient at it wasn't in my old offense Try to shoehorn him into the role. I had him in where he wasn't as successful. Do i have the quarterback. Right can do that and so forth because they have so much team. Speed samuel four. Three one four five hundred gibson. Four three three like you. You can have your underneath targets you can have your feel stretchers. You've got those players. You need to make a choice on how you samuel scott turned. Some fun stuff a really did they. Did some fun. Stuff was scott turner when he was in carolina. Without with curtis samuel. Excuse me motioning. The backfield not out of the backfield washington offense last year was fifth in motion at the snap. They love to switch the passing running. Strength on you at the last second. Real real real frigging nightmare with when your defense curtis samuel gives you such. A nice added wrinkle their in terms of they love to run split zone with jet motion. You booker samuel in that like. That's all great but you have to land on a good usage for samuel. If you don't you're wasting that money i think that's. That's the hidden edge in this often. I think they're going to put emotion alive and complained about the fact that the joining gibson got a lot better at reading split zone year. Went on to matt's that's now home base. I get gibson was so much better as just running back between the tackles in. I thought he was going to be your carries in college. I told coming out of memphis is going to be like a fun gadget. Guy and occasionally catch cool passes and we'll rows but he was like a legit back and yeah so it's it's almost hard to judge anything that happened in washington last year because of the quarterback play. So i think we can just kind of look at the players and try to imagine inner minds how they all fit together and it's kind of a could be a fun picture okay. You mentioned dallas. Let's talk about them after the break so that we can wrap up with the desert that is the philadelphia eagles bottomless fries at red..

"Was really like further value. Where they got him totally made sense exciting player but for the need and where they are with this offense. It's like did you really need another wide receiver. Especially because like i said this is like i literally like darius slayton i think sterling shepard good to. It's just getting rich richer and flashier where there were already rich and flashy. And i don't know about that approach. I also have questions about whether jason garrett is going to be the guy that solves this problem of. You've got a quarterback who's better throwing the ball deep than he is short intermediate weirdly and has turnover. And you've got weapons but you didn't improve the offensive line. It's just confusing. But like i said. I think the best possible case for this offense is that jones does improve in terms of his awareness and that there's improved continued improvement at the tackle position. And if both of those things happen that's a very big conditional if this could be really good offense because the weapons are really good and the running backs are good and you know. It's just those are like. I said pretty. Big ifs quarterback and offensive line are big question marks. Yep the other side though just to flip it. I think this is a giant defense. That had a very obvious need going into the draft and they addressed it. But i'm not sure if that's enough and that is at ed rush so the giants. I finished by the way they finished thirty second in. Pass block win rate which is probably not surprising. They also finished thirty second in pass rush win rate which is kind of surprising given how much the defense improved. But you know. Outside of leonard williams really not a lot of production. I guess occasionally Dexter lawrence pushing the pocket dom gone but the inside is fine. It's to outside that continues to be a question. Mark for the edge rather they draft disease jewelry And then they've got lorenzo. Carter coming back. Oh shut this isn't a are really struggled shimano. no john's shany's imminent Odhiambo courtney cronin. Vikings were communist anyways. A lot of question marks on the giants linebacker korea. Yes tino july who. I liked a lot i like. Oh july like how do you feel about the defensive the group overall upfront. I really like with giants on defenseman. I started watching the friend for this pond. Ninety that patrick graham was was. I knew that he was good coach. I knew he was respecting. People liked what he did. You start watching in terms of how they they like the steel gas so the defensive front they have a lot of guys you can do get daniel jones keys. Weirdly beating the washington. Football team wanted to go back and watch those games to understand. Why would i ended up being more impressed with washington always thinks they have the size to bully on the offensive line and the giants. Don't let him on because able to play lawrence. Bj hill Dalvin tomlinson leonard williams. All inside they do a great job stealing gaps which lets them drop seven drop eight coverage they really good zone coverage top down. Is he going to throw deep on us. We're gonna come up rally tackle. Which is very interesting. Because graham came from new england new england sharply man under bill. Belichick mostly in. He really really wants to be able to sit in zone. B with numbers But when you look at what. Got people excited about that. Brandon staley defense in terms of using type fronts bear fronts which more so with the giants due to steal into tear gas into get numbers in the passing game patrick grams up that alley on internet. That work is very exciting now. Would they lacked that. The rams had last year was the lennar ford guy. If you're gonna play with three down line between the tackles and that type front that bear front you need a guys outside linebackers a stand up wide rusher. He needs to win one on one. That is critical denisova. They're hoping to get that from z's and i'm not sold that that will be the case immediately he's got a nice profile isn't outside russia's got versatility. He can drop but right. Now he's kind of a one trick pony in terms of ee when the outside with the speed dip that shoulder or income three with speed power. That's pretty much it on. He's got to learn how to work his hands better. He's got that swat rip of besides that little bit one dimensional and so if you can get six point five. Kevin jackson Guess leonard williams is going to continue to generate some really good interior russia they're a decent blitz team About middle of the pack and they were successful doing that Get cuyler falco coming from debt. That work for them last year over. This team largely wants to stop you with a run. Be able to get you in third and long Top-down rally in tackle. They're not too much worried about that outside rush but it absolutely that in corner to with adoree jackson of the two spots they improve their ballgame. This is a really good defense. Yeah it's kind of like to me. Is this a good defense. Or is it a great defense. And that's gonna come down to whether they can manufacturer pass rush outside of letter williams to your point because the secondary is potentially so good the front seven like the pass rush doesn't have to be extraordinary at all. In fact you know the secondary. I talked about him a couple of weeks ago. With gregg rosenthal everything stock up stock down. And i talked about the giant secondary. Just how stacked they are right and you already had roe. Peppers logan ryan david mckinney. Three safety coming back from injury. And then of course james bradberry who is spectacular. Last season spectacular. That might be a little no spectacular. I want you and general. They had to protect their other corners. I think last year but then this year it was Yatim and this year. They went out in signed adoree jackson who was hurt last year but with him coming back suddenly. Oh my god like there's so. And then the grafted aaron robinson there so stacked and they have so much death at defensive back that if anything they could actually go back and play a little bit more man if they wanted so last season when is lose it to like how much zone they play to keep everything in front of them. That's something that kinda changed as the season went along the way that they use bradberry in particular Did you watch the seahawks game by any chance when you're all yeah no kidding. Living like how how literally got paid. Yes so i think you see us. This season went on graham. Who's a defensive coordinator kind of figuring out okay. These are the players i have. Let me play to their strengths. And like you said just kinda have them get rally football and play a ton of i think probably amongst the most zone in the nfl by the end of it. But it'll be interesting to me and just really be really stout against the run as well. And it'll be interesting to see if that evolves the personnel. They have but this is a good group and to go back to kind of early discussion. Like how these different teams shakeout like this defense. I don't think they have the. I think i think washington which will talk about is the best defense but this could be a top ten unit. No question in the nfl claiming that way as the season went along right exactly. I think that right. We've talked about graham figuring out who he has. In what pitches he can throw is important because they got a lot better generating pressure with games in the season. A lot of the had to do with only moving. Leonard williams around but not not treating leonard like a donald where every single game is meant to open. Aaron donald. like that's who you want winning on but using him as a crasher using him to blow on double teams Vanity bless against seattle where they had a they ran a game and all three of seattle's interior offense alignment the same dude. A linebacker just came flying down the pipe at ross. No lanier chilling bone chilling limb. Earn your yeah. I was just gonna say they had them lined up like every position versus seattle. I mean like at one from wide nine but all the way inside. I think he sacked russell from every possible tech. Who you start you start to learn your start to learn your pages limiter you got into that and to that. Pass rush point. What adoree allows you to do. Right is okay if we need to be able to play. Man coverage adore ejaz nautilus trustworthy player on a snapshot basis. But if we line them up against we feel solid. We feel good about it. It gives them the ability to press which win eight tried to press last year..

Kevin jackson darius slayton james bradberry jason garrett Aaron donald donald Leonard williams thirty second leonard williams aaron robinson this year Brandon patrick graham Carter seahawks adoree jackson graham lorenzo last year Dexter lawrence

"All right so yesterday I went down to to drop down to the beautiful police to watch Eastern Washington take on the University of Idaho. And I was looking forward to an eastern Washington Beat down as they were twenty point favorites going in. Well shockingly. We were as eastern fans completely disappointed in the outcome of the game. They were beat thirty five to twenty seven it. I mean the second half obviously got them closer but the reality is this game was pretty much over at halftime. It was it was a nightmare. Game for for Eastern We'll get into that here in a few minutes so just kind of some pretty game kind of stuff. This is only the third time in the last twenty years. These two teams have played as Idaho had been up into the F. B. S. and backstory on. That was they should have never left the Big Sky. Twenty years ago. They were too busy. Trying to chase down Boise state and follow them up to the you know. The Old Division One A. F. B. S. now and it was just never going to. I was amazed that the stood up for the twin close close to twenty years that they were they. Moscow is not a very big town and they're hampered by the town next to him Ten miles away as pullman Washington where you have Washington state playing in the PAC twelve. It was just never going to work in my opinion They bounced around from crap conferences to crap conferences. They you know they went from the Big Sky to the big west the whack and then when that dissolved into the sun belt for a few years there even an at large I believe for for the final year so as a transition back to the big sky where they should've left For a while there they tried to get into the mountain west with Boise state but once again it's a small market in college football. These days are about money and TV contracts and TV markets. As one of the reasons boise state hasn't really moved up now to to bigger conference than the mountain. West Boise is a growing city. It's a great city but they were never. I don't I don't know how they get into a bigger conference as far from the reasoning of TV markets. And all that stuff so anyways Idaho. I was excited when they came back down to the big sky. I think it's GONNA end up being a better place for them. They'll be able to recruit more of The player that needs to be in this league I didn't think it was going to be happening this fast to be a team like eastern This is the first time. Idaho's beat them since nineteen ninety nine. Now they've only played three times The last two last year eastern Johnston pretty good and then even when they're up a division eastern on down there I think Cooper Cup team now twenty twelve Kebir kept might have been a freshman but it was. It was at the time or right before Cooper kept came in you all know him as Ram now but he started off as about as heared eastern so somehow this this turned into quite a big upset especially at the FCS level We'll see how it actually pans out the rest of the year. If eastern can get things turned around but eastern was a twenty point favored and they ended up losing by eight. It was Scott to be one of the worst games I've ever seen eastern play mytalk in my time watching them which I've been up in this part of the world eastern Washington For the last nine years and if had season tickets off and on. You've heard all that this this one of the worst games I've ever seen play. I can't believe the team I was watching. It was it. Was You know? I don't want to rip on young people like that but it was just a bad game it just it was. I mean it was almost as if they bust down that morning which they might have but got there about twenty minutes before the game to stretch. Get ready to go it was. They were asleep walking through a big part of the first half and credits Idaho. They came out and manhandled them. They outhustled them. They they control the ball in the whole game. They kept the ball for thirty five minutes and started in that first half it was they just ran it down the ball Pacino. How to had a good game? This is probably the worst game that eastern is actually played in the red turf area. I've read in Multiple newspaper articles about the game. Which also is the same time as me being in spokane it was just the first half was the worst I think they had. Maybe just over one hundred yards of offense which eastern usually gets that in both. I got four hundred in the second half. I believe they're not an offensive juggernaut. Most of the time just not yes just not in the first half a head to turnovers and failed fourth and goal which crushed him a little while they. They're only three for twelve on third downs. They just could not get out of their own way for most of it. You Know Idaho jumped out to that. Twenty eight point lead at halftime and credit for Eastern. They did not give up they just even when they were there. Got It going in the second half offensively. You know. Obviously by putting up four touchdowns didn't look great defensively. They only give up seven points but Idaho had chances to score. They missed a field goal. And then I think that a couple more plays that went for touchdowns remember like I said I was there. I have not watched a replay of it Eastern had eight penalties for ninety five yards. But it always seemed that a penalty came at a bad time killing a drive back in them up on a first down or something like that and lot couple taunting penalties. I mean by the letter of the law. It was taunting on eastern but the kids have some fun. I mean. It wasn't directed at some unnecessarily. It was just the guy was John as walking away. Let the kids have some freedom but the penalties that one was a bad time at a bad time and just just did not work for them and they just. I hope they figure this out. I mean they're one one in three Was Twenty was it. Twenty eleven was the last time they started the season. This bad and they're just getting into big sky schedule. Yeah you're thinking well. They played Idaho. Idaho's in the Big Sky Houston's base guy. Why isn't this conference game? Well the sky is dumb. I don't I don't you know. They could have north South divisions and call again. Make it up. Make it a So that I'd hope eastern Washington about ten minutes to stay in Portland place other every damn yet. They don't they don't play. I don't think they play Idaho again for a couple of years. But part of that is because North Dakota's leaving the conference go to Missouri Valley. Idaho coming in is part of it but I mean they're they could've they could've easily fixed schedule a day at a fair that out because these rivalry games at this level and is the big level is what makes college football so special is my favorite thing to watch except for the Blazers. They need to fix that part. So back back to the game Easterns defense was not good. They slowed down in the second half. Yep Statistically but that was more I believe from the offense getting going they had three stars out including the Stud Chris. Oh joke which Haven't been able to find where he what injury he has but it was something in the with his leg during that. Jacksonville State Law. Switch the last two quarters of that game in the first course of Idaho game was the some of the worst. Footb- I've ever seen eastern play. Some of it was coaching. Not running the place at Jacksonville. Some of his just not playing to To the abilities that you know you know they can so defense. Struggled three starters route. They could not contain a trail which is credit to him for his athleticism because he can move around out of the bucket but he has the weirdest throwing style for me. And I I just can't figure out all of a sudden the ball just kind of flings out there from the sidearm and it'll travel twenty thirty yards. He was he was hitting people that look like they're open some time But it just weird he. He's he's gotta be like five ten they list at six foot but there's no way he's short dude But even though I don't know how he gets the ball down the field and makes pass the The offensive line. Somehow he does it Especially Against Eastern. It was twenty to thirty one for three hundred forty and eastern could not contain them. Couldn't contain anything I mean. Idaho ran for two hundred plus yards and control. The clock like spoke to you spoke to you about Just Crazy I. I don't know what happened. Eastern easterns offense. They got going to the second half with Barry. Throw on because they had to throw there was nothing. They tried to run few times Kester finished with seventeen carries and fifty nine yards. But they had to come out flying down four touchdowns. There was no time to sit there and run a norm off Barry I get going I I like the way he plays. I think sometimes it gets the happy feet and runs around for Sata trouble instead of trust in the pocket or moving up in the pocket when it starts to collapse instead of just frigging rights are running for his life. Because he's like. Most quarterbacks are not very good at throwing on the run and in the moving because their feet Hold when that dude stays solid and keeps his feet planet. He can throw the best of them. I mean he's got a beautiful ball. You could see that last year when he took over for Guber Ab- you know and then at the end of the game. They just could not make that one defensive stop that they really needed to have To get the offense March hands they were running some stupid stupid Miss Directional onside kicks one of them. They had to do it twice. I believe For penalties and stuff and everybody deal is common which way was telling me just just it was weird. Because they didn't get to me they did not get the other. I mean they basically took one dude out the player completely and they didn't get the other guys that were going for the Baugh enough time and pace because the wait along for this thing criss cross to happen and by the time they get run down kicked it so far down the field. I mean it was fifteen years down the field. They got the good balance and firmware. We were sitting. There was a chance I guess but not really Just a weird play. We're day weird game. It was awesome to be indoors watching a football game. Even though it was a beautiful day outside The key dome or as I start to call at the club because my replies club in between plays and timeouts. When the band was playing the ban ban was pretty bad ass. I got to give Kudos to University of Idaho and they were. They look like they have a good time every day. Every game that they're wherever they're performing and Hugh Jazz band One whole section at the dome. I was joking that that was like their third of their attendance. They look fun. Halftime shows me as one of the first few times watching the band. 'cause I don't really care for any of that stuff. But they they get down and have a good time. They need to come to some eastern games and put on some close. 'cause I I dig that more. Their home games to Give YOU DONALD COOL THEY. They did some upgrades a few years ago and good but it was loud. Concerts would be cool there. Great atmosphere if they ever get that place rolling and can fill it. It holds sixteen thousand. I think seventeen summer if ever get that thing even even closer to full from having good teams and bringing some people back into that'll be that'd be pretty cool placed pretty cool home field advantage to compete with Montana. Montana state I mean overall I mean I I I dig the University of Idaho. I just want eastern join. 'cause that's more of the team. I'm following But I think it's this Big Sky North is I'll call it The five teams I listed earlier. If they're all playing pretty well. That states can come and go every five to ten years but if they're all playing well in these games it means something and that's awesome because I don't think it's going to hurt them too much to get into the biles because there's twenty four teams and they have but there's really only three major conferences. The Missouri Valley the colonial in the big sky. That I think it up and populate most of the spaces for the playoffs so I'm digging glad Idaho's back sex that they be eastern especially as big a favourite as they were eastern was Eastern is struggling with the one and three record. They started the season ranked number four. I don't I don't how can they be ranked after this week? I got some work to do. They start their home legit home season this weekend. Against Kota and insomnia get roll on. Hopefully they can enroll through the big sky. Beef up that record but more I have a buddy appreciate you listening to me. Supporting the PODCAST.
