"To inside. So because Tony whitlock and Craig will and we're joined by a man who has been involved in supercars and a long time, but in fact it is now in a very different role because Shane Howard is now the CEO of the company that runs the 8 30 castle supercar racing in Australia. Shane, welcome to the show. Thank you, Tony. Appreciate it. Good news. I mean, I've known you, of course, your guys for many years when you ran the events company. Obviously, a vast experience in your business world. I always like telling people about your starting motor racing involved Tasmania and some certain little sports cars and racing cars. People who are always amazing here that you had that interest and involvement. Yeah of always been around it. My born into a racing family so to speak, my dad had a strong passion for my sport. And raised some great cars. He first race car was the Molina Monza, which was a very special race car back in those days. It was rise to the longford back in the day when it was part of the trans tasman series and all the great Formula One drivers there. Stuart courage clock, it was lucky enough to be a young kid and the guy to that me going to those early meetings and just how impressive to watch those great cars round in those great drivers and as you know, once it's in your blood, it's hard to get rid of. And yeah, just that sort of progress down to about a low climax. Around that also had Milton 400 there for a while and I'd have all been a little bit of an all formula three car there for a while. But absolutely love motor sport, love being part of it. And many out of Tasmania. Got a row with an engineering company that was responsible for delivering the engineering and the construction works on the indigo and prey. Back then, it was called the Nikon Grand Prix on the Gold Coast and that was probably 30 two years ago. So yeah, the Internet around it for a lot. Tony cockrum brought me on board to commit, start the promoting arm as you mentioned of supercars in regard to supercars promoting their own events that started with this city motor sport park. At least in Craig back then. And we took on that role in 2002. So yeah, I've been with sub cars for a very long time. I think I feel like an Italian Tyler of had a very long apprenticeship and to be given the opportunity to be CEO. It's something that I've always aspired to. And it's great to be in the sake surrounded by good people. Your father's first name, please. My father's name was Bert. Bird Howard. I'm sure there will be people there who go Googling him and find out his history along with some of yours, obviously. In the sport for such a long time. And, you know, at the real end of Mikey and all successful, because one of the things that you did tremendously was the enormous success of the events company, the number of calendar events that supercars ran and that were the self promoter was an enormously successful but can we just tell me some idea about your different roles now because now you're in the big chair so to speak and it's a different relationship you have with the series. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I was lucky enough that I had worked with Tony on an IndyCar in any car Australia. And formed a relationship with him. And then he provided me the opportunity to go to supercars and working, helping him and the board create the sitka events arm. Started with one of them at eastern creek. At least in up to ten events, the still currently sitting around 8 events. And through that time, we were in a massive growth period. So getting control of bathurst was very important for the series. And we worked into an agreement with the bathys regional councils and council and become art is there to promote the event. That event, which is obviously our Indianapolis of the history and heritage of cycling importance. So back in those days, running, going into run bathurst, there's a very different story. It was a little bit unrolling. There, and it was exciting times. And take it to what it is to die. Where it is one of the easiest one of the greatest murderer sport events in the world. Recognized by all the great tribes and all the great teams. There's so many so many elite drivers would like to participate at that event. We get amazing crowds, KM being in the atmosphere, it's incredible. So we're really looking forward to getting back to bathurst this year. Outside of COVID and getting it back into full swing. So Shane, does that mean you're the man that brought in the two cases per man per day rule? That's correct. There's a funny story with that, right? So there was myself Tony and we were we had to make a decision, some decisions to sort of get the crowd behind you. On the control and we were with wine cake. And then we said, well, we've got to put in a system to reduce everybody just taking in truckloads of alcohol and anticipating getting out of control. So we sat down together and worked out what would be a fair thing, do you think, and you thought about

"To Beth as she will be a bit different for you, worrying about the Saturday and Sunday races as opposed to just the one race and three days of qualifying to get to the one race. Yeah, yeah. Thankfully, he is probably the most comfortable and confident driving of buffers. That's one thing that he shares in common with Andre as well. He just has a knack and has an understanding of what's required a bathurst. So that is a huge release for me because going to go into that track, knowing what you have to do, knowing what the expectations are each day each session is a huge part of having a successful weekend and if I don't have to tell him what's expected of image day, then it's another load off my mind and I can just keep on doing my own job. So yeah, it's really exciting. I'm really excited to see what he can do this year at bathurst, and I'm sure it'll be something special again. Next on your schedule is sand down. Which I'm sure is a track you know and had experienced that. It would be one that, you know, because he obviously enjoyed the very open track of Taylor Ben that turned out in some ways have that same sort of feel about it. Yeah, yeah, it does have a some of the feel technically it's very different to tell and bend in terms of what you need to go fast. It's a very low grip circuit whereas talent bend is probably the highest grip circuit that we go to. So we've got a low grip circuit main game will have super soft tires that will throw another variable into how we function over the weekend and it just requires different strengths from the car, good curve riding ability, good traction and power down and really strong braking performance. So I am quite confident that the 6 foot car is going to be very strong there and the exact is going to be very strong now. There's a history of the cars being strong in Adelaide. So we'll make the assumption that he certainly got a good chance in the championship. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I mean, for him personally, I think eastern creek is a bit of a bogey track and maybe if it takes it as well. So to come out of the leading the championship, albeit because of a fully wet weekend, that's kind of minimized the damage in his championship. But Perth really did harm the championship and that was my first weekend with him. And with the team and having that DNS and the car wasn't really working that well, that put the championship hubs back a little, but from then onwards, townsville, then we've got Sandra and Buffett and Adelaide. Things are looking up for our chances and I'm confident that we can really close the gap and if things fall our way, then we can probably recover the championship lead. Well, the other one Taliban, thank you for joining us again on inside civic house. It's great to have you back. And look forward to catching up at sandow on sure it's going to be a wonderful weekend and it will be wonderful to be back at that track, which has been sadly missing for a while. It seems. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, well, thanks a lot for your time, gentlemen. It's been a pleasure. It's certainly a great story because Dylan has been around this panic for 14 years. He knows these cars will and it's shown time and time again that he's able to come in and engineer a car and get it to a very successful weekend. Shane also had some wonderful comments he made about Zach best. Shane effectively said that while he'd never raced against Zack, he didn't do anything silly and he was good to race against that didn't bend over and just say, oh, it's your race. You are go parsley. He ended up 5th because he also had conceded a place to cam waters to allow him pass obviously as a championship runner. But Zach certainly covered himself well. And let's hear from him now. Yeah, thank you, obviously. She was shocked to make you talk to the team. Did not expect every day. We'll just aiming for a top 15 and to come out Paul was extraordinary so, yeah, really enjoyed enjoyed putting the lap together and it was probably the best life of my life really. You've done June 3 here before, or super straight. And head polling there as well. Probably 6 seconds faster or something like that. Yeah, you're going a lot faster than that, but I got managed to get the lap record in super through in our last race too, so it was really exciting to sort of just build some what I did last time in a supercar here and yeah, it's love the place. And wouldn't you say the best over your life sort of thing? I mean, did it feel like it? When you're doing it? Yeah, it's for I was so nervous for the last few corners because I had it on the dash, the predicted lap and I'm looking at down the way, this is just unbelievable, which can't be right. I was so nervous last few corners, just put it together, get it across the line and yeah, it was awesome. Well, you certainly showed your color as well and truly there. You're back then up today. 16 to 7 x-rays 21 yesterday. Rice 22, you've got 16? Yeah, 16. Was looking for a bit more front and obviously went a bit too far with the bars and stuff. And they're just made real scrappy laughing. Didn't get it together, but the second qualifying session bounced back and showed our pace, but put it in the grass and other scrappy LAT just couldn't get them together today, but yeah, we'll fight hard in the race and hopefully move up and then 7th in that second qualified 7th year. In the grass last corner, but yeah, we're pushing push on and hopefully it can follow some of the other ticket boys through and get a ticket podium. I don't know if you've had a chance yet, you may not have because you've probably feed on touching the ground. But you also then finish up feast in race 21. Yeah, in a while I'm almost a little bit disappointed, but I did the same thing and was just there with cam, just needs to get a championship to focus on. We're not in the championship, so yeah, just push on rest. I couldn't fit so an unbelievable result for us, so we wrapped. The chain actually paid quite a compliment to you when the press conference very fair and hard and I didn't make it too hard for him, obviously. He's got a championship to race for as well, but yeah, we're just trying to keep it clean out there and had a good race. And you certainly did and did all you're supposed to and coming home with youth places obviously a wonderful achievement as a wild card because this is your second round that you've done in the main game. Yeah, second round the main game was a bit of a nightmare for us, but we've shown our true pace and what we really can do and what we're about. So hopefully people remember this and yeah, I'm sure they will and your black car will be out there and shine the flag very high. So congratulations and look forward to catching up later on the year. Thank you. One of the great things that the way came Craig, I made an ambition to speak to as many of the team owners as I could from a number of aspects. One was to get their summary on a house, the series is going, how they years going and also to get some idea about their ideas for the future with Jin three, but it's worthwhile reflecting on how well some of these guys were able to say that as a mixed reality because some of them are very, very well happy and getting ready for gen three. I was not so, but let's hear

"Sporting nature of broadcast. Peter? I think it's wonderful news that more and more television stations and streaming services are showing interest. I think it's the pot of gold that any sport has chasing and that is for competition for your content. So I think that that is definitely a real opportunity for the sport to drive it into the future. One of the things back in 2008, 2009 was seen as long-term agreements with venues and events. They name Adelaide baptist and Sydney. We get to this point Adelaide's come and gone and hopefully is back again. I know I've bought my tickets to get there. Bathys has been a mainstay and even though the beginning of the season wasn't right for bathist, it is still the 1000 and has its place, but Sydney toney has been the market that after a boom start, it never really got there and Sydney motor sport park hasn't really excited too It's interesting because it sort of suffers from the same problem that Filipinos even though geographically vastly different eastern creek or city might as well back being in the western suburbs of Sydney, whereas philippa and is that hundred K is plus out of Melbourne. They both aren't able to draw a crowd. When it came to motorbikes, they both could, but with cars, it just hasn't worked. And it's hard to understand why, but it certainly had to get down. Obviously, we're next year in the situation where formula two is not going to have the local categories, but it's going to have a couple of inputs in formula two formula three. So the very first time making a debut on Australian soil, which is a fantastic thing and something that bodes well in that way, but it does mean that those local categories that draw strength such as GTs, career cup maybe, and then formula four and others running F 5000 that have had that opportunity to get a sponsor on board because of the lower of a big crowd. That's not going to be there for them. In supercars, Tony, even back in 2008, 2009. They understood that the Keystone signature events bookending the series was an important part of their calendar. Indeed, and that's why Adelaide was very important. And it's now interesting that there hasn't been a 5 year contract sign for Adelaide to be the sign off event in supercars. And look, there's an awful lot to be said for that. And as we know, Formula One moved from being an end of year as it was an Adelaide to a start of year in Melbourne, IndyCar's obviously were an end of year events. And surface Paradise, but I have been back in probably unlikely to be back because I don't think they're taking IndyCars in a plane again anytime soon. But the supercars have certainly kept up, they've got both of you this year that's the only flyway event. There's still a little bit of a matter of strength still in New Zealand as a category. I would hope that at some stage there will be a chance for two events in New Zealand. And there are obviously is that possibility, particularly when through the cars, and I would think will return to Queensland raceway in 2023, you'd agree there, Peter. Yes, the improvements to that track are just outstanding in terms of what they've already delivered and what the future plans are. Perhaps one of the most notable changes to the makeup of the calendar is the growth of the night racing. At Sydney and Perth in particular, Sydney, it's so struggles to get that crowd that we have seen that innovation in trying to create a spectacle, if not live, at least for TV. And yes, the mega events to bookend the season with miss them the early the last couple of years, but obviously very good reasons. But yeah, so important to have Adelaide and Newcastle ask that the big events and the concerts and that kind of stuff. It really does set the time for the whole calendar. I think the strength that they've successfully built on is that television product. That's not to say there is not more to do in particular across other forms of new media. I think that they still have a bit to go, but the television product really is the key. The loyalty to the brands, I think, is waning. I don't think we have the strength of personalities in the drivers. We once had it's actually been replaced by a bit of tall poppy syndrome. But the TV products, the jewel for them to build out. Well, it's certainly interesting. Peter, thank you for joining us again on the inside super cars and Craig. It's a subject that obviously needs far more discussion on and I'm sure that there are people in power who will be discussing and we hope that listening to our show to maybe get a feel of how some people feel about the subject and what they're involved in the future interests will be in the world of inside supercars. "Welcome to inside super cars, Tony whitlock and Craig revelle and we've got daddy day care as with your son raw youth and we're on the eve of Albert park and Ryu is well aware the Grand Prix cars are close at hand. Yeah, think he knows that. I don't know, actually. He wouldn't have to find this idea what's going on. I've got to look after him a few days a week. Which is awesome. I love spending his events. The best thing in the world. That they would almost overlook the Grand Prix track. You seem to be very busy for some weeks. Yeah, I actually love Luke across the road for pretty much 18 years of my life for basically the entire time of good development. From the Grand Prix track. And it doesn't mean I've got any good there. This means I can see it. There's a lot of changes, but I haven't. I've seen a little bit, but I haven't seen a lot of them. If I tried to ride my bike around at the other day, but I got denied access due to putting up a bridges and those heaps of road works and stuff still happening all put in the track together so they didn't let me on, unfortunately. The thing that we do know is recent history that day Reynolds and the grove racing earned their first podium together. Down in Tasmania, wonderfully done, David. It's a track that takes very little time to get around under a minute, but you enjoy every one of those life. Yeah, mate, thanks very much. Yeah, it was a really, really cool feeling. So early in the year that we got a podium and we're top four car basically all weekend and that's legitimate pace and we're very, very, very, very happy with that result. That was same to almost unachievable at one point. Just, you know, with our patties we got now and whatnot, there's so much stuff we got to upgrade to be a front running car. These cars are very, very difficult and there's so much you can do to them and it's a credit to the big teams that can keep putting a good fast car at the front of the front of the grid week in week out and hopefully we can do it soon. So, you know, Tasmania is a great place. Good track. We were surprised. I thought when we went there I said if we can get in the top 8 all weekend, that would be a good result in our very good result. And we actually end up paying in the top four most of the weekends. So as an exceptional result from that same. Now, you couldn't get a bigger contrast from the stop and go of Simon's planes to the very flowing track of our park now. You and I both don't know the exact changes, but you had a look at some parts of the change. Yeah, I had to look at that new turn as it turned 6. Three, 6, 8, ten, 6, 6, 7 that brought the apex right back to the wall basically and it's like 20 or 30 ks an hour faster that apparently so yeah that looks that look good. I never really locked that corner anyway and the corner they carry out I never really like those that one. So the two corners they're fixed or I think that's actually kind of helped me a little bit because I never really enjoyed those corners and as a driver when you're done enjoy a part of a track you tend to not drive at the best. It's kind of weird sort of conundrum but you guys do it all weekend and you never feel like you get the most out of it so it was always quite a difficult part of the circuit. So I'm glad that they've made changes. It's going to be a faster, there's new surface they've laid first and first time in like I don't know 30 odd years at the service has been retarded so yeah I'm really looking forward to Halloween pans out. It's going to be it's going to be awesome. Now the old track as it was had a Scotty mcgovern had the qualifying one 53. So it's only a minute faster than where you are. You're not going to get bored on a lap are you. You're going to have new sites to look at and plenty of people wear. Yes, it's a huge, huge event to sell out Saturday Sunday, so I think that's the first time in as long as I can remember it's been a sellout. So yeah, I think the track's going to be up to ten seconds faster. So everyone's going to do qualifying lap records. Everyone's going to do records in practice on their first light basically. So it's going to be it's going to be fun. It's going to be a lot of fun. Now Dave, you've got a new member of the grove racing team up at the helm. Fitting into the program and what's it like getting to know him? Yeah, catch he's joined and he's the base of the team manager he's run on the ship. So he is rolled slightly different to what he used to. What he used to do at triple 8. But he brings a wealth of experience. He's been at that triple-A team for 14 years and they obviously ran a very good car and very good ship. So he's brought a wealth of knowledge, his energies, unreal, positivity is great. He is I'm very, very happy to have him as part of our team. It was a very good get from the gross to getting across. I think that's a sign of, you know, hopefully things to come that we're serious and going to try and point rice is as soon as we can. David, you know, we know that a race engineer and driver, you bet you and house there have been together for some years now. And it enable evolutionary thing. But it was Simmons planes did you feel that that was about to happen? Yeah, look, I've had Al for a very long time now, you know, my style. I know his style. We get along pretty well. We get along very well, actually, he's a very easy guy to go along with. I like to think I'm a pretty easy guy to get along with really well. He's a very smart guy, and I love having him on my side. Yeah, so did we think it was, what was that last question? Sorry, did we think it was achievable? Well, from the very first crack of winton practice, I always felt like I was going to have a good year. I always felt, hey buddy, it's okay. I always felt like I was going to be on top of my game. I'm very, very focused this year. I don't have many distractions like I did last year, the previous year. So I'm fully focused on my job again. I felt like the tracks that are going to play into our strengths are those sort of stop go corners. We're not the best at those fast buying corners like eastern creek or Grand Prix or philippa and all those sort of ones. So it's going to be interesting to see how we go this weekend, but the start tracks, I think, where we're going to be close to the money. So yeah, I do think more podiums are deaf, which are all this year, definitely. One of the things that seems so obvious this season is that there is what I call an arms race going on. That being everyone is Manning up in engineers as you would well know 5 to 8 top line race engineers moving, which is very encouraging for you and Alice day because as a partnership, being so solidly together, that's going to endure well for a season. Yeah, definitely so, you know, last year we had two engineers and this year with basically got 5 engineers. There's a couple of young kids straight out of uni in there, but it is, you know, we're doubled our brain power effectively. So that's because they're pretty hard to set up and cries a lot of physics and engineering and smash and science and all that. So, you know, the drivers one part, there's not a lot of thought engineering, so I'd say the more.

"We try and race as long as I can and do whatever I can, of course, but the day you want to have fun with the people that mean something to you and you want to have them around at the weekends and join it with you as well. And you know going out for dinners and having a good time of an art time too. And you brought in and over the years you've had a lot of good partners that have been able to gain something from you and you've been able to keep racing because of them. Yeah, absolutely. And as we know, we don't go racing without the support crew, you know, so guys like clean from trady pad and Josh from Cosmo grains and the list goes on, you know it's really good. And having them come to the racetrack, you know, hanging out which kind of early on in the year was a little bit difficult because it was kind of just cruel and teams go to the track. So that was a little bit disappointing, probably from there. And as well, because I always want to be here. Quite a few of them. This weekend, but yeah, without the support group, I stayed home and I watched it all on TV so it certainly don't turn any ties around without them, so yeah, very, very, very thankful. Well, the twos on the trophy this year, the goal I imagine for 2022 is to move that one number up. Yeah, absolutely. That's definitely the goal. Kind of feel with our last two rounds being at this and at city motor sport park, I think our paces is there that if all the ducks line up and we tick all the boxes then we should be able to have a shake, but obviously motor sport anything can happen. This year was kind of about learning, you know, as much as we possibly could, you know, we didn't come in thinking we were going to win the championship or even fought for top three in the championship to be fair, but just keep chipping away, try and win some races, get some fast slaps and poles, whatever the one race we've got a couple of poles, but I feel like this weekend we've probably had a little bit more in the car for whatever reason the first few hundred meters of these races are bringing me on stock and by the time I get to where I should have been at the start, nice run away, you'll Boggs run away at eastern creek and then it's everyone's too tight. You can't go giving away that sort of thing. So I have to get a little bit more aggressive and give myself a bit of a tune up and we can look in the mirror and wake up to myself and try and make sure those starts are you know as good as I can be like everybody else and hit the ground running and we'll see where we end up. Well, Tim have a great Christmas and looking forward to seeing how your team makes it out on the greater hint. Yeah, yeah, thanks very much. Yeah, fingers crossed. We're back in the 38 trading pad wall racing rocket and see how we go. Great to catch up with Tim brook there. And you can see once again, how much he's developed as a racing driver in that time. Now, to Shane weng is Bergen a very well credentialed and established driver. He's the supercar champion. And it was announced this week that he'll also be racing in the Australian rally championship with his sponsor Red Bull. It's awesome to be obviously part of the Red Bull family, but then to drive with them and supercars, but now rally as well..

"Team principles space we don't know. There is something though about the idea that Aston Martin is I mean, look, as man's losing the team principle, it might go, they have lost their team principal. And that does deserve a mention, I guess. Well, scrutiny. That's big. Yeah. It's big. Set up a Senate committee. Yeah. Well, clearly they have enough people to do it, but you do have to run the hell. How much of a whip is Lawrence picking up at the moment? As well, given this was everything's gonna be. I gried Lawrence thrall tick of approval in terms of who we associate to the same with and in terms of the branding and the look of the car. I mean, you know, if they spent less time worrying about what color Sheik agreeing that should be using for television, you know, maybe that should be focusing on the performance of the vehicle. So yeah, just maybe up mine's just going, can you believe the shit that they're making me do? At this time, we used to punch it by my wife, so we didn't care if the cow was pink white, blue, whatever. And now we're forgetting about this. I'm sure that's not the reason. It's just yeah. Maybe it's just trying to much because it used to be the little thing that could the essence of that tape was changed in that season for better or for worse, who knows? Time will tell. Yes, that is a fair point. A story you've almost certainly heard of before. Grand Prix in the City of London. That's been doing the rounds this week. Incredible, isn't it? It's been this rumor has been going around for I reckon 20 years at least. Maybe longer. Who knows? It's gone on so long. Boris Johnson was pushing that wheelbarrow when he was just a quirky man. I was just like, oh, imagine if he would go to the prime minister. Careful what you wish for sometimes, hey, so that's how all that newsies. Yes. But I do like there was an article and I think it was the right order. So I think it was the race. Written by one of the people who is working for one of the companies that is backing this race. So of course he was very optimistic about it. He thought it really did think it was going to happen. My wife will happen, in fact, and the key asterisks I think here are that if you're thinking it's going to be run where they did that famous demo around that everyone uses photos of when they ride up the story in the right in the middle of London, wherever it was, I don't know. It's not going to be there. It's going to be or will be in the east of London. The London city airport and the sewage treatment plant, so less spectacular, I think it's fair to say, can't really say from my explorations on Google Maps, much of the iconic parts of the City of London. It actually was written up a little bit. I don't want to do this too much. If it happens, it happens. Good on them. But it was written a little bit like a real estate advertisement. It uses phrase like London's 21st century landmarks, which I assume means that landmarks, no one's heard of. Or don't exist yet. Which is a good one, I guess it's a way to sell it. But it's still it's that thing where it's like, I understand why you'd want to race in London, right? Because it's a world city, very people recognize it very nice. Scenic background, whatever. Yeah. But it's not the same if it's in a part of London no one knows. Much in the same way and look at the Miami Grand Prix might be great. And everyone seems very happy to go to another race in the U.S.. But it's not the same racing in a car park around a football stadium is not the same as racing on the beach front of Miami. It's just not the same prospect. Yeah, could you imagine if the Australian Grand Prix started all ever again? The Australian Grand Prix Nevada. And the best location I have right, the what's a real hub that sort of every it's a focal point of the community, you know, it's an international venue has a hotel on it. Let's do a rice at the Cheddar shopping center. But I've seen that they've expanded. They put more levels on it. Are they hotel there? Giving it a great one lessons in speaking. Tom will tell. Yes, yes. I will tell, yes, it's the same if they, you know, again to go back to his rumors of Sydney. Yeah, they'll take it to Sydney, but then if you just run it at eastern creek, it's not really like it's next to a tip, which is the same as the London Grand Prix to be fair, pretty much, so maybe it is 5. There you go. But yes, that is the rumor at the moment. But, you know, take it with a grain of salt. And finally, news that's probably already happened by the time you listen to this, so we'll just go out and say it as if it's happened. Antonio Giovanni is asked. He's gone. But when you Joe, it's been announced already, or it'll be announced soon, or it'll be announced tomorrow art. Or we might be wrong, but apparently no, that's what's gonna happen. I don't like the Callum a lot to be confirmed. I can not wait. Let's check in before we wrap this up with the F one fantasy competition formula mcginley. Why does the page always refresh once I go and try and read the scores? It's just a terrible design, isn't it? It's just not a good design. I didn't make it. I.

"Call you can take on your account. Just put a name on someone in off the cuff. Nyquist with some time now. Of course we never had that make people all the time not up is that was a good thing about it but not anything that they didn't you could go and talk to them sometimes and i like in the kitchen and so on and just start explaining to the Tempe roy i want to keep going on like that. We'll have to give you a penalty or something and they'll look at it. It's just a as it's assignments most but what you pick get penalized for so two different things in every sport. So is no different. Big mattis what you think about to die with formula fords lowly other categories will driving stands now. Because that's the way it is. You don't formula long runs. I have some drive at it. Sort of gives me something. So it's become quite common really. I think it's not a bad thing. It sounded like you had a fair bit of freedom in setting the agenda collin. Did you have that that same sort of freedom. Well not really. Where would you say. Mostly boost starting off the well. That's operating. it was quite you about you. Know inciting that we use to sort of talk to the students On show bag seasons will. But peter in myself with mike pretty good quick decision if we had to disorder. Do that fragments. We wanted to try and get the people on the dos. Gone through the signal to be penalized afterwards in deposition and it's we could do it then. I mean they stop more information around the look at after this happened so you couldn't do it now. Santa much. But now. I say i said the same thing. It was job. Gupta ability. You didn't pick on anyone in particular was a pre strike united site. You look at the incidents and and that was it. And i'm not think freedoms probably the wrong description there into the guy it was still the same noble and most sought changes that call was welcome from the ruble that always wear confirms the same ruble. it was just about for me is how we altogether interpreted what made so when we establish things like they the rules and either laps in i mean calls heavily involved in some of that we will just very clear on ensuring that It was interpreted to sign every time on. So whether you're sitting on the solve the rock interpretation was on was the sign the knicks against the why we wanted to be consistent with it and And you know it was the it my job as you. And you've got people call. And thomas the device from the self obviously craig now in that role You know freedom is scary. Would but i think that the one thing i never wanted to have or don't think the role should have is a gug lock position which means i can pick and choose have penalized. People say we decided to stay there. Standard or standard. Was this and we do the best we can decide stuck to. It sounds like the one consistent thing here guys. Raleigh wasn't happy. He's the one thing that said. Well not really i think rallied runs. Johnny carson was assigned tom carson. he do. The role is not gonna be happy and one of them but you look at the end of the dire and As a fair investment in the sport and and and set me when you do the right thing he feels you do the right thing you much but if he feels you've done the wrong thing and like you know but that's not exclusive to roll and not going to show you that takes you to a number of non exclusive to anyone. There's a lot of teams that had that signed position just wondering colon in your time that covers missouri was still food drive in the series just wondering if you remember giving him a penalty for infringement of some kind of plenty hug me. I don't know if utah calling involve the must've been must have been when i yeah. It was in eastern creek once great. But i'm not sure calling was enrolled then. I don't think they didn't have a deer. So but i'll go in front of stewart. Yes you know. They can and You know found that because in in it's slow going. I in a second night eastern great runs and i'll go to stewart's and sculpture students and you know the stewardess asked me Screener who what what happened. Like you know Fifteen made contact with our seventeen. Yeah right you know like he is gone around. I had a couple of luke's few time you shut the door. And some pushed him off passed him and And then the house dick. It'd be what you got to say and And dick says well off propably deserve you know then And that was it you know. And that's how it was may all day like they didn't have a graduate main and we'd never had argued argument said saudi decal that y'all like you will bling around and big problem you know but these days. I think it's about some little accidents and such a backlash and such bloody You know all the media gets involved they so much crap happening and it just goes on and on and on like Yeah i think that's the difference with what's happening in all days and these days and then people get a little tab day keep whingeing they come to your so and keep whingeing about it and And it's yeah. I i dunno. I dunno in leaving the position as they Did you find that It's it gave you a better understanding the why should served because worked with drivers and and and how rice was nowadays It's just gonna saikal luke shelley from my point of view When all was driving in the superior and all that different to call you become very focused just on your own jovan and repairing toward newark the entire universe so we need in skip out of that role you then become involved in a in a harlan in the rice control. You do have a different perspective. Different you on the holistic aspect of at what might set business would can everything from the officials down of the flag marshals. And you and you do. You definitely have different respecting a different view of it. And and i think that online a lot About sport in general. And that's a good thing. I think that helps as well. When talking to some of the drugs about heidi's inciteful. Say is certainly when when i step out of that driving you are driving and you you've got to be one hundred ten cents on yourself and what you do and how you do it and the team and draw and the car on the tars and all sorts of things And that's what those guys do. That's how they operate. And that's the level of the sports as days which talking exchange tactic but said automate. You call but it and he go.

"This is the timing be you know and he was. You know tanks in front of the car you shouldn't. Have you know the the people get upset about these things but at the end you know day to one they make the rules with the you know the took the cars and and they gave the rules to stewart's full follow and and to made police. You know like the blows by what can be done and i like it And and and sometimes people you know they were not happy with the decision like not accepting the fact they made a mistake but like this is sort of black and white. You know then Maybe stupid rule but Again day to one day may rule by roland. The time you know. He made the rules and And then when he gets clicked on those rules while he's jumping up and down you know well hang on me like you may through. Yeah then it's And i'm sure it's the same i'm sure bad or we'll have few arguments withdrawal in and Then does sort of high profile people but it's all done behind closed doors and the public doesn't need. Yeah he will. Probably the rusen thought. It was because the championship round philip ball and be between rick kelly and cry grounds. Whoever won that particular event was going to be champion and Anyway i mean trump is just in front of crikey kelly and then there was you know and then rick was coming into the cornea quota. They have a right hand bottom on they'll do and it looked like rick sort of it comes through the corner before handling with faustin them what i was doing and then craig sort of incoming. They moved inside the sort of like difficult for him. And then you don't. Megan saw it in the corner. And i honestly take the craig's turns in doing so eastern and thin goatee bound the cow which put him out of the running and we sort of looked at it and he'll get said well if we give regan it draws for a penalty giving he checked even the echo seem to spin. It's all done with in the story you know so. We did that and they enroll them on and on and on because he said that particular incident caused whoever won the championship and we say well at the same thing happened in new zealand would reverse way we turned around and we gave them totally just bec- because the championship you can't change. What's the result of us posted to stick of insulin. So in that would allow the women actually physically went back and got the dr from both cows. It gives appears i- rica touched him because when you look at the data for by kosh usually when someone run into beco- someone so they caused the car in front speedup. It did and it didn't happen. You know in the data it just one of those things but you sort of think tim. Rome wasn't happy because you know you lost a championship. And he thought it was because we get big enough building a small. You'll get on well with him but it was. I mean that's an interesting point that call up and it's something that also during the coast of of role as well a championships note. One loss rice. It's one of the course of hall season rice to we all the fauna rights ba'athist so as as the guys on you just got to apply the rules the y you say whatever you leaves you know whether that philosophy up tobaccos or strikes to wheaton You know in the middle of the season and it doesn't matter that's how you go to applaud the rules and that's why certainly familiar at the start of the season on shut down and said. How do you guys want to do this. Because how we deal with a decision that happens in the championship disorder. Will the the loss drops about this. We'd go twice at eastern creek We'll see at winton a dollar and wherever we are during the course of the championship. And that's you know and you might get fair and reasonable forever onto the cost of the bags. Did you feel more pressure thinking in that role than you did. Sitting in strapped into orca Initially i'll probably felt a little bit of pressure about once you didn't started to understand the process. Not really because he used the same principles to decide if someone's guilty or not Unfortunately there's times you know. I had to do tae mites crushing know each other. I have to deal with Changing pink on the podium. I do big the events that the spot colour to Situation in a championship being awarded. But if you go back to the basic principles inside it's gotta be fair and reasonable from rice one the end that we're going to apply it then there's really not pressure because it's just about following the process. Whatever you call them was a pressure cooker up there in the early days. Not really as hitler of being referees full permission anyway applied suffer as a kid so on. But i think it's fairly. It was fairly straightforward in fact. I had paid with me to which was was. Do you still got to deal with the stewards still make the decisions. I want it but what we tried to do. The first by the stewards would gifts jewelry. Tommy went to a rice meeting because you can use at wells use huge music wells and selling back now to the literary dies and we decided that louis if peterman went around you start to get some consistency in the rulings between what was what was wrong. And and that's totally happen. Letter on the stewards. Anything naked the same students. Same classical through two. Stop rule the rice meetings. So the whole thing's nasty become a little bit more consistent the wives operator. The riots is conducted and i think that It's swag is a neighbor. Thirty felt bad about it because oil will do. He was just doing a job. And you're doing a job that you know some of those guys you the roofs to do and then you look at the rules and they to the that and if i wanted to stay with students about it as well. And if the person didn't take the lockout ruling could still take on take stewards. And and i would. He became again. So it's was heck side. I think the nice people so that really put up with what the result was what we guide them. Because the amount of technology have knowledge. We had We could come and look at what's happening in on most of them would agree. You know By another graham was like food and that was going to stones did it. I mean what much legrand thing that got very quickly in that role. It wouldn't matter what decision you might. Someone was upset so end of the day. I mean that she told me that pressure. That's not something that applause. Because even if you decided to penalize someone or not someone always unhappy body there's always have but there's always three versions of what happened is dry draw day and then this the truth summer in the middle so the jobs actually to stick with the truth in. There's always someone unhappy arkansas..

That job can take them too strange and unfamiliar worlds, and a touch of culture shock can be a common affliction. But sometimes their assignments too far like hell's can bring them reminders of their own origins. Let's see now from Indonesia correspondent, David Lipson who found himself getting his head bang on in Jakarta, recently, LIPA, Don, these black shirt and ripped jeans to attend the recent guns N roses concert in Jakarta in his search for Indonesia's heavy middle. My him. My wife spotted the tickets in the Jakarta Facebook group guns and roses, reunited, most of them anyway and playing in Indonesia's capital. He'd make HAMAs a surprise to hear, but Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, which is facing a rash of religious. Conservatism is something of a haven. The heavy metal groups of black clad longhaired, locals can be seen huddled around their phones in parks all over the capital. And as a nation Indonesia is prolific when it comes to producing noise that I'm told is pretty well respected on the middle. Saint. This is all female all Muslim band. I've previously played heaving crowds at the big day out and sound way concerts in Astrid, just wrapped up another successful European tour with Philo minstrels dead scored on this night, though in Jakarta, g NF and IRS was the name up in lights and among the crowd. That Qatar now sits proudly in the foyer of Indonesia's corruption radicalization commission, then this year, the rock and roll president was back in the press after you folks out more than a thousand dollars to ensure a signed limited edition, sit of metallica's master of puppets album, didn't go the same way as the guitar. It was a gift from Denmark's, prime minister and Under Indonesia's anti corruption laws couldn't be accepted without a price. I knew the president's attendance of the stadium was sure to cause even more traffic havoc than usual as his motorcade would shut down all the roads near the stadium. So it set aside a modest two and a half hours to get to a nearby restaurant. Grab a quick burger with some friends and walk over to the stadium. I'd massively underestimated Jakarta's infamous much it or traffic jams. When the taxi finally arrived to pick me up. It took two hours to travel the three point seven kilometres. Why didn't you get out and walk? He you ask well idea. Eventually with no footpath had to weave between cars and motorbikes on the motorway in a slow motion race to get their time walking down the middle of the road. Twelve lane road. I think I'm chugging along when the traffic guys bit faster. And then going back to a walk when when things. Resume that crawls after twenty minutes of inhaling exhaust, fumes miraculously bumped into my friends who had the tickets, and we made our way across the overpass above an ocean of red brake lights honking homes eventually into the stadium sitting down just in time to be welcomed to the jungle. So who's written about LA yearly eighties? But it could just as easily be Jakarta 2018. The gig lasted a full three hours. I lost control of my top lip is it curled up into a gun as style. Head. Banging smile. I looked around. I realized like those on stage, and like me the gun is crowded gained a few years and a few kilograms since the early ninety s may have been twenty years between concerts, one thing guns and roses fans have always head. Well, fortunately, that's case lost twenty years. But now with the falcon coming up being produced in this country. It certainly is leaning towards where we're buying an imported Commodore and you can go buy a big Ford. You've got to buy small forward you want to sit and we buy Mustang, and certainly that's going to be fantastic because is enormous amount of development being happening with the Mustang with plenty of drivers jumping out and having a panel, which leads to TCI there's lots of developments in that category as well.
