Fresh update on "eastern conference" discussed on Skip and Shannon: Undisputed

"Yeah requested you ask the. Us big reception. Now you can riled up criminal today thank you good insight on how this starting your thanksgiving with undisputed will be coming to you live tomorrow morning. Nine thirty eastern a preview the cowboys potential first place showdown against washington. Later that day on fox at four pm eastern. You will not want miss. Were waking up to celebrate thanksgiving together. And i hope you join us as well. It should be an extra special show while brandon. Ingram is the latest young nba star to receive a max deal this offseason donovan mitchell tatum pam eh bio and eared fox have also all signed five-year. Max deals with their respective teams so shannon which goes by young players. Who just got max deal. Would you most want to build a team around these nominal. But if you tell me i can only get one of taking jason. Tatum the the month before the season starts he was twenty nine five last month for the playoffs. He's twenty six ten and a half and five assists in the playoffs. And this is what lebron. James said about jason. Tatum make sure. I got this right. But take mission offensively an absolute problem at the dropped. One hundred that sunday bryan hit the come on that you know you know what i skip. He twenty to watch him play he he. He's getting better. And better and better. And i love beyond beyond needed to get his own team so donovan. Mitchell in the playoffs kept phenomenal. But if you tell me. I can only have one of these guys. I'm taking jason taylor. Because he can do so much. So if i had to pick someone that i wanna watch ongoing donovan mitchell. Yes and when i start looking at this draft. They're all in the same draft. I look at donovan. mitchell went thirteenth in this draft. That's looking like more and more of all time louisville's skip i didn't see in either i. I would agree with that. And by the way one pick before donovan. Mitchell at number twelve was luke. Canard latest newest clippers star and he's starting to live up to his twelfth. Pick in the draft. Pick in that draft who he the who by the. I'd have to find. That's a good point where whereas charlotte i'll find it and the second but your man jason. Tatum went third overall netdragon. There was one even bigger steel in that draft than donovan. Mitchell was and that's at fourteen was bam went straight to pat riley and it might be the all-time coup for pat riley. I know he did once wanted time. Get lebron to take his. Tell south russian as far as a free agent signing that would be scoot right but in this case. I'm going to go bam over jason tatum. Because bam has become the heart and soul of that franchise. He has become the leader in the cornerstone. The aircraft carrier for that whole franchise. And i think it will get nothing but better and to me the the symbol of bam over jason. Tatum literally happened at the end of game. One of the eastern conference there is. Just here we go. This is the end of. This is three seconds left and jason says. I know you're not. I think i'm going to slam. No you're not gonna slam this any ben. His fingers back and had enough hand strength left hand to fight the ball players. Bam is the best because he could play defense. He's a very sound defensive player but he you the opposite okay. Monday to charlotte. Yeah i believe he did I'll find that in just a second. But the point is he. He was definitely in the strap. Yeah he malinche was eleven to charlotte that some issues off the court and he's having problems okay. He has agreed so bam last year. Went fifteen ten and five assists. Nobody put up those kinds of numbers. This side of janas okay. So and that's the first time any heat player in the history of the heat has put up those kind of fifteen ten and five so again to me biggest picture. I'm going to take bam as the leader of the franchise because listen. Jason impress me through the year but when when he got to the eastern conference finals he struggled from three he shot thirty one percent from three. He struggled remembering in game six which became the closeout game. He had a rough time. He got hot later. He got off to a start and he wound up nine of twenty six from the field which was quite good enough to get them. Home to a game set but skip. I'm still taking this kid. Offensively he can do it. He can do brandon ingram brandon ingram shows and that i think that's the thing that's hurting coup because coups we'll see what these guys are doing on their own. But you and i both know be is not doing this for eighty. Lebron jason. Tatum is not doing this with lebron donald mitchell. Not doing this. Ad lebron bam. He might because bam's really not trying to go out there and get twenty point so he's still might be able to put up numbers. But you have to look at your situation and says okay luke luke. Where they're they have their own team so they're gonna get more points offensively coup. Your time's coming coup. Just be patient with. I'm taking jason. Tatum skip out the watching him. What he did this land in the playoffs. That what he was doing before the season stop gay. I'm convinced and i you know i don't really like do players Carolina during okay but the late great. Kobe bryant was mentoring jason. He's got some kobe in him trying to adopt some of his movies. Tatum hitting up all the way in the world. The away But i'm taking title. I didn't see this. Jason tatum at duke. Either so i will. I will give you that but in in overall firepower on both ends and in leadership off the court. Listen as you say about saint. nick you've gotta stinker going on i think pat riley's stinker down there just think about brandon. Ingram left him and jason. Tatum stay another year. But gets i on coming up in that at duke.

"Washington wizards on the board take denny at nine. Been rumored to be the On yucca kong. Woo landing spot. The hawks take him away. They also get cassius winston The point guard out of michigan state. Who was one of the best college basketball players in the country but slides into the fifties. Because he's both small and not just like not an nba athlete. Like he's a poor athlete. And that obviously when you say. Small bad athlete at That's a little bit scary but also a guy who's one of the shooters in the draft one of the best leaders in the draft. What did you think about the wizards draft night. Yeah i didn't. I didn't know what to do with washington coming into the night if they didn't fall into a kong because that was the spot that everybody loved for him he obviously didn't get there I think danny is totally fine for washington. I was a little bit scared of in the top five where he was often discussed. Because i am a little weary of his lack of upside in my view at nights a lot more easy to be in on that pick I still feel the same way about his ceiling. Not being terribly high and maybe he over last with hotch murrah and whenever you want to say about this but i think just value is number nine abdi. It was totally fine. May maybe it wouldn't have been my pick but certainly not one of the worst ones that they could have made in that spot. and i. i like winston. I hear what you're saying for. Sure you're not wrong at all about his limited tools but he is a legitimately elite shooter dating back to college and he's just one of those guys you can run a pick and roll and the limited to length is definitely going to be a problem for him which is why he's in second round. That's totally justifiable but fifty. Three it's kind of a no brainer. Yes for me on that. So all all considered. I gave the wizards a b minus and could be even higher than that depending on. How you feel about you. I'm with you be minus was my greatest. Well tires halliburton tyree celebrates you should be vr. Guy i i i liked halliburton as well in part because i definitely think that we don't know what's going to happen with john wall And and what. What's gonna become of that and i thought the idea of a halliburton bradley. Bill backcourt. Made some sense with that. Said i like you much more comfortable with him being drafted here than when we're hearing four or five. I think this is less pressure on him. I think this is a better situation for him. That we don't put too much on him too soon and expect the impossible and if his shut jump shot comes around then people will be looking back at this draft and saying why didn't he go higher but that's a big big question mark because all the analytics right now are a little bit. Bearish on on denney Because of that jump shot. And so you know for those reasons. The wizards are taking a risk. Here with a few guys that were on the board like devon vessel for example Like tires halliburton. That i think might have been able to provide more value. Yeah i think halibut would have been good here. And i know you're higher than i am but i think he would have been very very useful in washington probably would have been a guy that i preferred to deal but you know being my second choice or third choice at number nine isn't a bad thing and the values just totally find there so it's not a home run probably for washington and nights a team that maybe needs one of those but at some point that i use good enough react stake in

"Moved they've made and new coach and being sort of one of those eastern conference teams as well sort of does come into play here. You need obviously some west coast teams to play the games east coast early ones and then it's tough for me on the final one nuggets feel like they almost deserve it. The mavericks with luca is big now. Porzingas will be injured. He wouldn't be playing. And then the. Pelicans zion williamson. We know how much he is and he was actually one of the games last year right i think they played the nuggets in the late game. It's a little tough. I'm going to go with the nuggets. So here's my lineup. Guys seventy sixers versus. The celtics will start the day with that. Be your twelve o'clock. Classic box heat will be the second game. Okay warriors nets. i want those two teams playing. I know that's a western conference eastern.

Boston Remembers Tommy Heinsohn

"Celtics Legendary player coach broadcaster Tommy Ison passing away at age 86 where the guy was incredible over more than 60 years. You know, with the Celtics, you know part of all their championship 17 championships between a player coach broadcaster. I mean, pretty amazing life that Tommy Heinsohn lived 1934 to 2020 thiss guy was A lot of fun to listen to he get, you know, Hey, got on the bad side of Knicks fans back in the day. He was somebody that had a short fuse when he was coaching. But he was a gamer. I mean, If you were playing Frank's in or if you were rooting for I intend you felt good because this guy never quit. And I mean, he called timeout. Sometimes in games that looked like there's no chance to win this game. He'd have you played. He come up with some strategy. I mean, I like times, and I thought he had a great basketball mind. Just like you be Brown when I listen to you, you know, is a color commentator. Oh, man, That guy gets it. I got the same thing from Tommy Heinsohn. He knew that he knew the game inside out. And was a solid player but really was a solid coach for many years with the Celtics a CZ well and I remember growing up. And watching a lot of those playoff games. You know, back the Eastern Conference back in the seventies late 60 seventies, and you saw the Knicks in the Baltimore Bullets. They were back in the day and then you know, those were great games, and then you got to the next round. And a lot of times there were those those Celtic teems with Honda John Avlon check and and number 10 Jo Jo White. Uh, you know so many great players, Paul Silas on that team, and just just a bunch of good, solid players. And, of course, the Celtic teams in the eighties with you know, D J and Bird and Change, and Robert Parish, the chief Boy. Lots of good stuff with that Celtics organization. But, Tommy, I said, part of it for as long as anybody and he will be missed, But 86 years old, I'm sure Tom, you tell you Hey. Lived one heck of a good life. We heard that come from our good pal Alex Trebek, who passed away 80 years old Tommy Heinsohn. 86 years old. Ah, lot of milestones there and a part of that Celtics team for a long, long time

Stan Van Gundy Hired as Coach of the New Orleans Pelicans

Stan Van Gundy Hired as Coach of the New Orleans Pelicans

"Van Gundy is going to be the new head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, and Van Gundy has had a successful coaching career. He has been in the playoffs every year, except one in every year that he's coached a full season. He is well, I shouldn't say that Up until Detroit he had made the playoffs every single year. He was a head coach and then missed the playoffs three out of four years in Detroit. So some of that magic had rubbed off by the time that he got to the Detroit Pistons, but he has Plus 500 win percentage over the course of his career in the regular season. 5 77. He's also plus 500 in his postseason playoff career at 5 27. You might remember. He originally was the head coach in Miami for the heat, and he had helped build that team into a contender they had traded for Shaquille O'Neal. Aftershock. Shot his way out of town in Los Angeles and couldn't coexist with Kobe. And going into the 0506 ease that they had just come out of the Eastern Conference finals, Remember? And so Miami was poised to maybe make a run of the N BA finals. He still had shack near a dominant portion of his career kind of coming out of it, but still still pretty dominant, and Dwayne Wade was ascending. And Pat Riley Bogard the team within the 1st 25 games, and either he didn't like the way things were going where the players didn't like Stan Van Gundy, But Riley swooped in. He was the GM swooped in, took over as the head coach. And rode it all the way to that. 06 N B, a Finals championship. At that point in time. Obviously, Van Gundy is now percent non grata in my Abbey, five. The job in Orlando gets the job in Orlando and gets them to the N B, a finals and another conference finals. It's kind of hard to believe, but the Orlando Magic within the last decade We're the en Bas Finals and Eastern Conference finals when they had Dwight Howard to the peak of his powers, and that was a stand. Van Gundy team. Van Gundy then got fired after a couple of first round exits and landed in Detroit, and we got all the personnel control Detroit that did not go well. As I mentioned before miss the playoffs three out of four years at the Blake Griffin edition, ultimately only made the playoffs once and got swept in the first round. So Van Gundy's abilities that he had in Miami and Orlando really took a hit in Detroit. Now he's become a very entertaining broadcaster. He's a great interview. He's smart. He's funny. He's self deprecating Stan Van Gundy. He's a really good listen, but is he a good head coach anymore? I've got my doubts because When he won. He had veteran guys that had already established themselves as stars or were establishing themselves. A star's already in Miami with shock and Dwayne Wade Wade was relatively young but still was Already ascending into one of the best players of basketball in Orlando. Same thing with Dwight Howard and company in Detroit. It was trying to fix it. They couldn't fix it. And now in New Orleans, it's a completely different challenge. That's a thing that has not accomplished anything. And they're all young players. And this is about the development of Brandon Ingram Specifically, and Zion Williams. Those the two guys the biggest potential on that roster logs, those good Alonso is never going to be with Ingram or specifically, Zion could be and science the big one. If you get Zion to the next level. Then the pelicans get to the next level. If he doesn't, then they don't and the pelicans enter the bubble after that long hiatus and had the inside track to make the playoffs and flamed out. We're going to know immediately whether Stan Van Gundy is a good coach or not immediately. He's a guy that can rub guys a little bit of the wrong way. He can have that Van Gundy hard ass attitude. He's very quick. He's willing to call you out in the media. We remember him and Dwight Howard uncomfortably shoulder to shoulder arm over the shoulder. You know, guys sometimes don't like you. And if they don't like it, you're out of there. If the pelicans missed the playoffs this upcoming season, Van Gundy's going to have to take the fall for that He's going to take the blame. There's a lot of potential on that roster a lot. And Zion is ready to explode, and Ingram showed last year the type of player he could be team him with his eye on with Alonso and the rest of that roster. There's no excuse to miss the playoffs over full season with the pelicans. Van Gundy better get them there, or else he's gonna look like just a really good quote and a good broadcaster. That doesn't deserve to be getting head coaching jobs any more after that, and Detroit

How Joe Pavelski chose between Stars, Lightning after leaving Sharks

"Many years with the San Jose Sharks, Joe Pavelski last summer was an unrestricted free agent. He visited two teams in free agency. Tampa Bay and Dallas. Podolski, of course, signed with the stars, but he knows the lightning well. No, they're deep teams. They have good team, speed and skill on, you know they have some good defense and a great goalie over there, So there's their team that has something to prove, as well and You know, that's what I think it would make a good measure. Boston - Report Details ‘Heated Confrontation’ Between Marcus Smart And Jaylen Brown, Who ‘Needed To Be Separated’

"Air down to Oh, they have a huge game three tonight against the Heat. Their season rests on it because, of course, no MBA team has ever come back from a 30 Siri's deficit. And it's time to see you. The Celtics are. Of course you read the reports. The athletic had the story on Friday. Postgame blowup falling game to Marcus Smart, Jalen Brown having a heated confrontation inside of the locker room they needed to be separated by their teammates. They then talked it out with Jason Tatum and Kemba Walker and Bride Stevens's room around one in the morning agent which Morales give ESPN had that is well yesterday. So this is a turning point for the Celtics and Are they going to fall apart or just going to be a rallying cry for them? Because there is one thing that's for certain the Celtics are a team right now. That can't close their close, but they can't cause it struggled to close against the Toronto Raptors. And they've struggled mightily to close against the Miami heat in games one and two of the Eastern Conference finals. And that is the reason why they're currently down, and that extends To the sidelines next since the coach Brad Stevens. You talk about Mike Budenholzer and some mistakes he made with the Bucks. Brad Stevens, also struggling to close and adjust to Erik Spoelstra and the Heat. So is this a Celtic seemed, is falling apart. Or is this a turning points? "Yeah and you might say, Oh, it was such a great coaching matchup. With. Nurse versus Stevens and. Now, it's a no, no no. Spoelstra is maybe the third best coach football. And basketball because he was there with Lebron, he was extra young at the time. Now I mean Pat Riley did not give him that job with Lebron they're. thinking he wasn't good and he's been through so many wars since I don't think there's really any coaching edge. Yeah, and Spoelstra live. That's one of the stories that came out early on that Lebron hinted at a you know, pat would you be interested in coaching again because he wasn't really vibe ing with expulsed, bolster, and Pat Riley pushed back and. Said No, I'm not I'm not getting rid of him. He's been here a long time I. Think he's good enough and you can argue this might be his best coaching performance based on. He doesn't have all the superstars that he had back then and yet this team has been the best team in the bubble so far and I don't think it's close. That's interesting. So Would, you say Lakers the second best in the bowel? Yeah. I would go lakers and let's say in the playoffs because I don't really count the the seating games Ashi. True. Yeah. So Lakers with a lot of questions coming in have answered them in a resounding way. Yeah. And I think Miami not as many questions just lower expectations of a now I've answered any questions in a resounding way. Now, Boston you could say they are now battle-tested, and maybe that is an advantage to go through that war with Toronto because you might say heats more rested, but maybe it's a heat haven't really faced but though they did have close games against Milwaukee, they just in some of them just you know prevailed. So it's It's interesting to say there's two ways you can look at the heat win over walk on one. You could say it's a marketing got beat last year before the finals got beat this year there's just not a playoff team, right or you could say that Milwaukee is one of the best teams in the history of the NBA, not to make the finals if you just look at point differential and we've talked about this at length. all-time stuff how good Milwaukee's been in the regular season and those teams almost inevitably win the title forget him a making it. So Miami beat one of the best teams ever to b before the finals. I, you could look at that both ways not not a good playoff team because of some things. Janas, not getting his own shot and such or hey, they just be what could be the best team not to make the fine owes. It's an inch between those two final question which way do you look at it meaning? Who Would Boston's experience? Well I think I think the question is, do you look at Miami? Say They beat a mock team that just doesn't do well in the playoffs then does you diminish the win? Okay. What do you say? They beat a really really good team in fact, historically, one of the best teams ought to make the finals I think they'd be a really good team I mean and it looked like I mean that's series really wasn't all that close I mean we can argue whatever we want about. Okay. Well, Jaanus was injured and all that man made. If we're going to go down the injury path, then I guess you just want to diminish Toronto's win the NBA Finals last year. The major more injuries in that case, right? Hundred percent and the other thing on Boston and I think sometimes people forget this I. Think this is their Third Eastern Conference finals trip in the last four years so even though they're a Team they've had deep playoff runs with those guys..

"Typically, homecourt advantage plays a role in a four hundred seven not here. So this is pure how good the teams are. Due any of those jump out as value plays and If you. Had to bet one, which one would it be like do you like one of these teams much more for the series, but not as much for game one what's your overall take I like Boston for the series a little more than I like him for game one they did get a little extra time off in between that seven game series against Toronto which was A. Grueling pretty emotional series in which they thought they were going to go up three Oh and there was the last second shot that that one for Toronto. So the fact that they played on Friday and they get extended rats I think helps them but I like them for the series just based on the fact that they match up well against the heat one, the season series. Miami's had a lot of time off. We've seen that before to where teams that think so so much of they're going to be rusty I don't know. That's the thing about the heat in this. In this whole environment, they've just been a different team seemingly just there are different team than what they were during the regular season. They were good team during the regular season, but they've been a great team in this bubble environment I. Think they've lost once only the entire time they've been there. So that's that's why this this game one will tell me whether or not that's answered or whether or not. That's just applicable to a normal circumstance. I'm RJ bell were straight out of. Vegas. Here's my question. If Miami came in as one of the favorites to win at all I'd say with the pedigree of the Lakers or the clippers or of Milwaukee. And they started off and literally said okay, we're GONNA sweep first round four Oh. Yeah and then second round were playing one of the other best teams in the League and we're going to pretty much handle them without any problem and five. You would think, wow, no one. No team could answer the questions of the first two rounds with any more certainty than that. Win In four eight out of nine and supplanting one of the other leaders in your convert. I know that the pedigree the lead up matters because those typically eighty two games but. Last in this case of the regular season, tell you such a big story. But the thing about the heat that makes me more optimistic that it's just not an owner, a good team that's playing great now. But maybe they were good team that's evolved into a great team meaning. They're very young they a Butler's new to that team and feels like they just got better and better as the season progressed and to me that makes me like them more. Let's say a Tennessee Titans team. I didn't get any sense. We're coming together last year as much as hey, Tannehill was better than the Marietta and. They want a couple of close. Sometimes teams take a step up, but they don't really it just seems like it, and then sometimes teams grow. If feels like Miami has grown into being better than they were in the regular season do you agree yeah I agree and I think if they were more highly thought of coming into the bubble as opposed to what they were there's no way Austin favorite in the series..

"So lately, we've been trying to do our part to be cautious and do what we can for public health. So we've been cooped in the house a lot not getting out a lot Robert is there anything you kind of miss about the about the road trip or going on long drives? Well, I'd have to say there's there is something really cool about having a long drive hopefully in driving through the mountains or something in you get to really dive into a particular album. Experience it beginning to end while taking in the scenery also a great time for the children to learn about metal machine. Music. So when miles gray and I drove the Mazda. C. X, thirty from Palm San Diego I really enjoyed the scenery along the way and I feel like the car itself helped a lot with that like the interior of the car is crafted with what they call an essential EST approach. So well, it's got a lot of features like in car WIFI vehicle status navigation displays, etc. It really doesn't feel crammed with distracting lights and visual Decoy and Speaking of features the thirty also has a really good factory soundsystem. They loaded the car up with some high definition sample tracks for us to try like we listen to Daft punk and that sounded great. "It's just it's the Knicks. They're always worse than you think. They're going to be in some way or some fashion and whether it's trade whether it's playing the wrong guys if is. Dale adopt particularly impressed me last year that again. They had very little talent. The way that this maybe goes wrong is maybe Mitchell. Robinson is just a huge defensive stud and maybe they just don't play Kevin knocks it all comes back and he can give them something but it's just it's tough for me to see me other than Robinson Gibson Marcus Morris like nobody else on this team. Really projects has to be a good defender. I don't even know how much Gibson is. GonNa play frankly any units often the jury awards but it's like being somewhere because their breasts off into players Julius randle and he's he's not a he's not one of the top thirty offensive players in the NBA. They also that that's a good a good indication. They're going to be pretty bad offense. We have right and that I hadn't thought he starting at the four next to Mitch Robinson and then you have all sorts of spacing issues and everything else and for if you want to hear if you if you want to hear extended thoughts. I'm a big believer Michelle Robinson. I think this could be bigger. Firm actually talked what about that what on Ben Taylor's thinking podcast when we were picking breakout guys I talked about him a lot and I but that can be done in a way that doesn't really help the Knicks that much because they're just they just don't have that much and the whole the whole being less than some of the parts I think is really trend overlap guys the ball they're the players have such overlapping overlapping skill sets and overlapping weaknesses that I think will be hard to make that were yes so it's physiologist has such brutally hard job this year and it's also hard to imagine imagine it clarifying in a way that is significantly better for them. You know maybe their injuries or somebody gets traded or something like that but it's not like they're going to get a ton of shooting in a trade or they're going to get a dynamic point guard or anything like that probably so yeah me with a half their their ways that it could air over over under another one where I think it's really kind of right on the border line. I was very concerned when you and I did the pod about them about backup point guard. It looks like Marco Foltz is going to be available now. Maybe it's a decent bet to give them okay backup guards minutes. I'm still not a believer that his jump shot is going to be ready. Nick route switch expect him to take a a little bit of a step back this year so the number twenty two offense a year ago and I don't really see that changing a ton with the town had maybe if they can just get better when August interest in boots off the floor with false that that can help them get to be a little bit better and I think their defense might be primed for a slight regression and last year. They were pretty much in line with their expected point differential. They're about a win lower than expected there at the point differential a forty three win team that would put them over if they repeated that a year ago but I did think there is a little bit of smoke and mirrors to this. Maybe they could just not having rich in August in as you're one in your five just won't matter they get Alfred Community to play as a backup Combo forward. Maybe their defense can still be that good and take us up for it so they could easily be wrong here. There's also just the idea that there'll be a lot of bad teams that are done especially in the East by the time the playoff chase roles are on 'em. They'll be continuing to fight. They tore threw it at the last two three months last season. So this could easily be wrong won't be a bus bet but I I'm just. I'm not totally in love with this group and I thought they were. They took a big step for last year. I think we might see a little bit of regression just because some of that would be unsustainable particularly from August innovation. I also think Goggin is big regression candidate so I picked him for forty wins when you and I did the pod you had them for forty two so I'm guessing you're going to go under also oh yeah so. Are you changing your prediction check. What's new in the spreadsheet. Can can I enter new data. I Magnusson not I've changed. Its If if you WANNA put it forty three. That's fine it. It's it's a really tough call. This is a a well a well-made line and I mean you've got it some of this pretty well last year. After January first the magic had the number three defense in the League league and that's overly rosy. I don't think they're going to be that good but part of why they struggled in the first half of the year was these huge holes at Point Guard and Backup Center Backup Point Guard backup center had to be cleared Deejay Patrick very good here and I think both of those are going to be better than they were at the beginning of last year. Maybe some of them end up being worse because if Bomba ends up being the backup overcome Birch and depending on what Markelle Fultz we see. I think it'd be better than journ grand. Maybe he'll be worse than Isaiah Briscoe and MC w could easily go the other way I mean I I still really like Marxists at even as a limited player just the value that he can bring and I I have similar concerns about the offense but I I uh-huh abroad believer in their defense and I think they can put it together enough a lot of the Steve Clifford elements. I think really helped them not turning the ball over being effective on the glass those help raise their for and it's you know I. I don't necessarily love love this over there. Funny Parallels other disagreement. We've had so the Detroit Pistons where the argument the other way is just so easy for me to see but what they're doing over over under. I'M GONNA go under just basically because of health and load management reasons. I think they're going to be really really good. I think this by the time the playoffs Laurent could be one of the best defense of all time I have them picked to be the number one defense in the NBA but I think the offense may not be the good Ain't the loss of RETTIG is really. GonNa hurt them. I don't know how much embiid is. GonNa play probably less than last year It seems like they're not. GonNa play Al Horford as much as backup center just to kind of preserve him as well their bench guys like vibe will will and Zaire Smith out know how good those guys are going to be offensively. I think when impedes off the floor they could really struggle to score. They are going to have Tobias Harris all year. Maybe the they're gonNA be relying on him to improve yet again. Which is done it pretty linearly in his career. So maybe that could be a way to take us up for. I still don't think the shooting shooting on offense is that good so I see them more in the you know the ten to fifteen range offensively but they're just such a nasty defensive team that just could be so oh hard to deal with in the playoffs. I think they'll be a better playoff team than a regular season team and so it just comes down to going with the under because I think that they're going to be really taking it easy and I. I also don't think there's GonNa be anyone pushing them too hard for the two seed which is another and. I don't think they're going to be that close to Milwaukee for the once they're gonNA Kinda. Just be chilling in the fifty-three win area with with nobody that costs them in either direction last season. Only four teams had the point differential fifty five win team. We're stronger and so and that's you know it's a lot to ask of any team and while the sixers absolutely have that talent to get there that's the I think it's hard to argue against that as a concept but you have to actually put it together i. I'm not going to say as strongly as you that they're going to be a way better playoff team the regular season because I worry about their playoff offense but their defense is going to be filthy and also win the playoffs. They're we're going to play their best guys a higher proportion at the time which is actually the biggest reason. I'm going under here. Kinda like you were they'll be. They'll be cautious with management. They'll they'll make all all those kinds of decisions in that respect to fifty seven point four games at expected win differential behind that last year just like that tells you how much of a jump this would be behind fifty five yeah they they had the point differential last year of a forty seven point six twenty so that that's a big jump for them and it's. I was the sixers are better but think about all the offensive adjustments are going to have to make the JJ rettig as kind of a a Wilbur Kent for their offense anymore. That's going to be a big adjustment other pieces that they're going to have to fit in and I think a work but I think it's going to take time and that adjustment time. We'll have an effect in terms of wins so think they're going to be a really good team. I'm a believer in them. It would not surprise me again to think that going into the playoffs especially specifically with how they how they could work against the bucks that will I could like them in that series or at least be more optimistic than they have. You know what the questions are doing. Philadelphia seventy six fifty five win over fifty five fifty six for this to hit on the over and this will come up with a couple football teams as well if you haven't proven that you're that type of a level. I'm just very loathe to go there because US never know again. How all these parts are. I'M GONNA fit together and especially in year one so I just say generally my policy is unless you've been at that fifty five windsor over level before I kind of not really that interested in picking you do that for the first time in those those kind of logic for going under on Boston last year that worked out pretty well so we'll see whether whether that works affiliate but it it does the especially with the way last year ended and embiid being injured and the fact that they're just clearly going to be focused on the playoffs this year. They've said we want to get the number one seat but they've also said we want everyone to the playoffs healthy and I would imagine especially if the bucks are as good as I think they are that that pushes pushes just not gonNA materialize. Are we got two more air. Stu Toronto Forty six is over yeah and I think this is a really well set line. I struggled with it and it's also challenging. The team looks very different than they did the year before because we don't have an established baseline and I ended up leaning on even though I like nick nurse I like a lot of the guys has that are still on this raptors team. I leaned onto ideas to go under one is there are many ways for more ways for a season to go worse-than-expected than better and because partially Ashley due to the potential twenty twenty one motivations just how they're seeing it. My instinct is that the raptors are more likely sellers than buyers. Probably neither I think think the most likely thing is that they're neither but when I think about a team that way just because of where the raptors are banners fly forever and they have all these veterans on expiring contracts they could if they wanted to go in different directions they absolutely could almost every trade involving somebody like Kyle lowry or surgery is probably GonNa make the raptors worse in the immediate so and I also don't expect traded lemieux emphasize that double double bullet and all that but those are those are we finally have disagreement here was they didn't go under by much better. I did pick them for exactly forty six wins on the pod with Blake Murphy so don't feel incredibly strongly about it but in that seventeen seventeen in five without Kawhi last year granted they also had Danny Green for those games but that makes me feel good. They'd have guys who are young enough to improve. We'll see whether Pascal Siaka can take the next step this year. I think they just have too much. Institutional knowledge screw up..

"Let them know that you came from us all right after that epic ts before the break. I will go over twenty three wins for the Charlotte Hornets I will too. I feel terrible about it. I'll say that well so I think this is for me. It's a little bit horrifying. We talked about this the last patriarch mailbag that we did about kind of teams that were not really excited about watching this year. My belief is that the Hornets will be less watchable watchable than bad either. They're going to be tough to watch but I don't think they're going to be truly terrible. A veteran laden team guys like a Tomb Zeller. They have enough enough tough. Guy Marvin Williams that I think they'll be able to be kinda competent. Neither of us is the biggest fan of Terry Rozier but the biggest reason why I'm picking you over here is twenty. Three wins is just a really really small total exactly what I was. GonNa say and you can stumble your way to this pretty easily and also remember that with lottery reform they eat depending on where the Hornets fit in the pecking order. You could see them just picking up a few a few cheese towards the end of the year old. That's her stuff and also I think they're to me a little bit better than the absolute worst teams and so I think they'll do decently in those games in that gives you a buffer to you know to be our ours ars as the lowest over under on the board. I think I think they're better than that personally like if you put them if you were to put them in a game against the cavs. I would take the Hornets pretty easily. interesting cavs have a higher over under yeah. That's I do not want to watch that game. Then bengals can have some fun with egging. If you just look through this roster they just have absolutely no creation I think as I was going through and trying to rank the offenses these guys will probably be the worst offense in the NBA and that's really bad starting point. Brassiere just hasn't been efficient in there really relying on him to provide average point guard play at gets. It's going to be tough. I mean they do have a modicum the shooting but even I mean there's so many guys in this rotation that are either totally unproven or have big issues. There's also the chance that guys could get brought out from this team or you have to imagine that Marvin Williams and probably not because he goes another year but Marvin Williams who might marvelous might be the best player uh-huh or Razir so he he could get bought out who knows how many minutes he's GonNa play the I mean the vets that they do have prior aren't GonNa play much so basically the for them to hit this over counting on their defense being passable and I think it will be. I think there aren't really any just like terrible defenders on this team. Maybe Willie Hernan Gomez. Gomez is a backup center but other than that Razir is is fine at the one Baotou has dropped off but he's not a complete sieve dwayne Bacon Gilchrist bridges Marvin Williams Cody Zoellick. These guys are pros as you mentioned. I think eight thirty defense will be like in the like twenty to twenty four range so so that's that's hopefully enough to get you over that really low number but they could very easily go. This is not at all a confident prediction and I'm I'm not going to be. I'm not happy for having put my faith in this group. Put it this way because they give a little bit a statistical clarity on why they're gonna be the worst offense with Kimball Walker off the floor last year. They're in the one oh two range inch offensively and that's you know basically worse than the League type level so I add gyros ears a little bit better than some of the backups that they had last year Tony Parker but it's still oh I mean unless you're just really is way better than we think he is. Either GonNa suck offensively and so we just have to hope that the defense and the Third GonNa Continue Compete in some of these votes play a little more and they're not just a complete tire fire by the end of the year anything else on number. Do you WANNA move onto your Chicago Bulls. You chip you Chicago. Chicago Bulls Channel directly there for thirty three and a half. What do you think I like this a lot better. When it was three and a half which was shocking it was so weird for the Bulls to be in a low line which they were at the very beginning of this and it got bad up here I really missed out by not doing this until now yeah but I think that would move pretty quickly and as a point of reference using that cleaning the glass point to first thing they brought it before thirty three and a half wins is getting outscored by about three points Brunner possessions. That's what the wizards did last year and I think those are better than that. I think there are going to make some big strides on defense and they could have some offensive growth to remember that their season was really sidetracked last year because because they were never really healthy at the same time they had Zach Levine injury and then it was all the stuff with Chris Dun and various other players of course got out of Puerto in season but then Ah Carter got her pretty early and so you had all these different factors in play there deeper now which I think is important. They're also deeper defensively which is definitely can help. Saito thaddeus young as a huge. He's there so there's always a concern for me when I go over on a team that I don't expect to make the playoffs that it doesn't take much to swing it usually but I I just think they're a better team than this so I'm going over yeah. The big thing I think you're relying on is two things one the new edition CEO and young really really helping the defense etes enemy. It's really put my money where my mouth is is having thaddeus young as an old defense level of forward. I'm expecting the end. It'd be worst. Defense Liam expect inspector to be a lot better. I think the Bulls just had a lot of non. NBA players in the rotation last year this year they're looking deeming Chris done. I think is fine at at least as a backup. Hopefully they'll start Sanski. We'll see where Kobe white fits in. Obviously I'm sure Jim Boylan is GONNA. Try to make him earn it and his act to be equality. Player is is a nineteen year old point guard starting in the NBA Got Levin. Hopefully Denzel Valentine will be back to give them a little bit. I I am slightly worried about the wing depth. You'll maybe you'll get some minutes at the the two as well but they've only got Levin Porter backing those guys up. There isn't much right now. Chandler Hutchison isn't any good and he's starting camp on the shelf with a hamstring issue issue. Valentine didn't play at all last year so there's not a ton behind those guys and those guys have also struggled with injuries while Ed so the defense getting better as one one thing. The second thing is low remarketing window. Carter Zach Levine is probably the three core players all of them taking up for that. I think is more of an offensive issue issue. Although Levin could maybe get to be slightly better than terrible. I don't think that's going to happen. but Carter was pretty good defensively. Last year the it's just a question of whether he and and Mark Levin are GonNa take other stuff offense because this is a team that was a bottom five offense and defense last year save a long way to go there expected one loss last last year was pretty rough is only twenty point one again. That's a lot of guys who are just not. NBA rotational players aren't around anymore so he I mean thirty four wins. It's it is tough for me to go this high. I am tentatively. GonNa go with the over because I think they can be amid pack defense. Maybe a slightly below average offense eh with these these guys now but injury to Levin injury to porter especially porter. They just have nothing behind him at all then they could. They could be a big trouble and this under could could hit very easily. Yeah I mean as I said. This is. The kind of over that makes me a little bit queasy but I I just think they have enough depth. They have enough talent and I I don't exactly know where the Bulls are going to go during the season but something else that I turn to in these circumstances and this will come up with a few other teams is. Is it more likely that they're a buyer were a seller and my instinct is that it's more likely that they're a buyer just because I don't really know what they would sell so that it helps it helps inform on the margins indicates like this I mean now Jim Boylan is not something that people think pretty highly of until proven differently you probably have to say he's kind of in the lower end of NBA coaches so that's it's a another issue as well but I do think Puerto is the season if he can stay healthy. I think they're going to be competent. When he plays an infected the few gains that he was able to play their body even last year before he had shut down. Remember marketing ended had that heart issue. He was done by the end of the year. Carter was done by the end of the year. Levine only played like sixty games Chris done missed a bunch of time last year. They had nothing at backup power four the nothing at backup small forward so yeah. The death isn't perfect but it's I mean they actually have like kgo eight real. NBA rotation players they haven't had in the past Cleveland audible. Yeah goods are no no that's fine so okay. Last year. The Clinton Cavaliers won on nineteen games that the point differential of eighteen point five win team and they're over underlines set at twenty four and a half and so the question I want to start with you. Here is other than Kevin love hopefully playing more or are they much better than last year's team. Yeah that's what I struggled with. Also you remember they had maybe the worst defense in NBA history relative to the League you just have to expect some regression to the mean there but they added another guy dearest Garland who has almost no high level experience after playing only five games with vanderbilt last. You're not known for his deficit either concepts and can't be quite as bad in your to as he has a near one defensively but they didn't add any one of note on on defense effect. David new album her best defender is on the team anymore so they're very clearly a bottom five defense. Probably the best bet the worst defense in the league. I mean the the last year and they basically bring back the executive team except adding two thousand minutes Garland of someone who's not communicated. You could also Z. Much like with Charlotte. Some of their vets getting moved whether it's love whether Tristan Thompson Jordan Clarkson quietly actually had a semi decent season isn't for them last year at least given what they needed so when you're starting from that bad of a defense I think it's pretty rough and then when you look at the offensive talent on and you gotta be huge believers in sucks in Garland at this point in time to drive efficient offense Kevin love is going to have a big effect while now he can still oh shoot the ball. You can still get to the foul line but offense of -ly as an engine really creating. He was not that good last year. He was shot forty one percent on two pointers the last year in about six hundred minutes and he's also a huge health I mean probably will play more games for the cavs this year than you did last year because of the possibility of a trade and his is injury history. That's not the safest bet in the world so yeah. I'm a I think they could be better offensively. That's what would have to happen for them to go over but I mean this. We're we're talking about them. Being six wins better than they were last year and I'm not sure other than just regression to the mean and Kevin love playing more where that's supposed to come from right and so I think we're pretty much in the same boat there and with the cavs Tristan Thompson having a better season than he did last year it was one of the bigger dispense for me but I don't even think him mm-hmm at anything less than that finals when he did so well anything less than that levels really going to lift all the boats like the they're just so much so many negative maybe like John John Anthony Dolphin Oval could play more than that would help them get better defensive but I mean we kind of know where this team is organizationally. They're gonNA with especially with with Dover. They have young guys ahead of him in the rotation and the Front Office Management Speaking broadly. That's where they want this to go so maybe it's like beeline galvanizes them or something but there just just isn't talent there. That's that's the biggest challenge. Is that even if he is that force there only a few coaches that significantly raise their team's defensive prowess over the the talent level and the town level is future. Maybe there's hope that he could help them get better off. pensively were again. I think that's where I think. There's a higher chance of gains yeah but these guys get into twenty five wins. It's you know that seems again. That's almost seven wins better than their point differential from last. You're not saying it can't happen but I mean another concern too is like Kevin Porter Jr. until wind ller in those guys who were drafted in the last five picks of the first round those guys they're gonNA WANNA play those guys to put down the end. Also you'd think so again. There's not the tanking impetus that there has been before if there were such an impetus that I'd feel really good about the under for some of these teams that I might even have gone under for Charlotte. It is wall but now I think it's time again for the cavs because I'm just not buying this defense and regression to the mean when you're kind of.

"I training camps have opened the September. Surprise injuries are in the rear view mirror and is that time of year says these lines keep coming out earlier and earlier. I I made a pointed attempt to not look at any of them until I really started going through this exercise because I wanted my predictions to be unaffected by the preseason season lines. We're GONNA do the Eastern Conference today and I'm getting these lines from the West Gate Super Book as of the most recent ones I could find run the action network as of about a week ago so Danny and I generally just pick over under the new we do our best best at the end that will be in the next podcast after we do the West I have. I won this every year by the way that a nice introduction for you know I think let's see. I think that you have one. You've definitely want it more often than I have. I don't know if you've worked well. I guess winning it because like we actually criteria beaming like picking the most correct of the thirty yes. I think you've won. I think I've won best bet to couple of times but you've won best nearly every time. Actually that could be true but so much better at my worst pets than you are. Though yeah that is also true. Oh Yeah let's get started started here with the Atlanta new thirty six which is way higher than I thought it would be when I had Brad Rowland on he was referencing at being around thirty four so I guess that's been bet up or he was looking somewhere else but I had a real hard under on this because I have a number of concerns about the hawks which I detail on that Padre with bread so eun. I haven't talked about the hawks wet. You give your pick and go. I hear or or go first with your explanation well. The Hawks won one twenty nine games last year using cleaning the glasses filter so they basically what they do is they turn differential filtering out garbage time into expected won loss record. They said the Hawks won twenty nine last sure they had the differential of a twenty four point four win team and while there are plenty of reasons to expect the hawks be meaningfully better one of them being that they looked a lot more robust once they got John Collins back. Hopefully he'll play a higher proportion of the upcoming season than the prior one but my biggest reason why this is a pretty comfortable under for me is defense last year. The Hawks folks were twenty-seventh in defense. They will probably get some internal improvement. Just as guys were in league but they also lost their two best defenders. Dwayne deadman is being replaced by Alex when we're going smaller and Kemp as more was traded for Evan Turner so it is hard for me to imagine that even if they make significant growth on offense which is entirely entirely possible that they get significantly better defensively and it's a big jump from where they worked this kind of a number. I was expecting to go under on the hawks just based on the general optimism. I'm like I'm more pessimistic on them than most but this number was just hilarious to me. That seems really really high and as part of my preference I tried to kind of go through and rank all the teams into tiers based on offense defense at Atlanta's clearly in the bottom tier in terms of defense. I think they're a pretty good bet to be a bottom. Five defense. I think would trae young on the floor. They could approach top ten offense type of levels but the problem is when he's off the floor now. Evan Turner is your backup point guard. They also just had arbi playing a lot of unproven players that are in the rotation. The Injury News on Allen crowd that he's going to not even be involved in the entire preseason You looks like he might be a good bet to just not contribute early on in the season as well. They also have kind of a difficult schedule early on which could be a little disheartening so yeah. I think think my prediction on the part that I did with Brad was for thirty win so this I mean this may end up being one of my best but it's pretty rare that my prediction will be six wins. Wins Below Vegas so that is a real surprise to me and I think again it's just the defense is going to be so bad your I mean I don't see them being a top five offense and they really would have to be like the number ten number nine number eight offense assuming that's what the defense is to a perch thirty six wins and I especially because Kabibi they could play that well with trae on the floor but with Evan Turner as a backup point guard other big questions in the rotation backup center is going to be a nightmare you know they don't play their guys communes either now. Maybe Collins will be the backup center but they're not gonNA defend with him on the floor either. I'm just they really just have a lot of holes. In the loss of crab opens up even more. There's also talk of some injuries and soreness for guys like Collins and hurt her and Alex Len already here in camp. The hawks are usually pretty transparent about those type of injuries so it maybe they're just reporting them for the sake of being safe but I still think that these guys. There's a lot of optimism for them. I think a lot of people are buying into the fact that there are twenty nine win team when they were about five wins before above expectation as you mentioned so if you say hey they're gonNA start at a twenty four win team and there are a lot of ways in which they got worse like their depths clearly worse like losing dwayne deadman. Who is a you know better offensively than lend. There's hope that Lens GonNa shoot the ball better this year. We'll see about that in a definitely their best defensive player from last year so I dig a six win improvement when you consider how many rookies are going to have the depth that they lost some of the holes in the rotation backup Point Guard and backup center that might even be optimistic to say there to be six wins better than last year when you consider again that they're differentials so I mean the the only thing that I can think of is that people are pressing. Oh twenty nine wins last year. They'll be six seven wins better. Okay that's fine if they were twenty nine one thousand less but they weren't the the only thing I want to emphasize or add in is the limitation of point guard because they brought in Evan Turner who can be a ball handler on the second unit and maybe you can play a little bit with trae but if if young Mrs time or if it's hurt or whatever they don't really have anybody in House and point guard is a notoriously hard position. I've emphasized the forty minutes at that spot for years now inspired by the Brooklyn Nets a few years ago and the Hawks don't have they just they just aren't in that situation and that's the it's an easy way to sink a couple of games and when you have an optimistic line that's something to but I don't know I guess I guess one thing is. What do you think it would take for us to be wrong on this because you and I are both pretty pretty firm here. Would it be just the defense is passable. Maybe there's some three point shooting like opponent three point shooting lock in there just a great offense yeah well. I mean there's always teams can always get lucky right. I mean when when we're doing this we're projecting it of Kinda. You know they're gonna be either lucky or unlucky. You know you just you kind of nail if they win five more games than expected this year as well then the new one than they'd be pretty close already if I'm project them as a thirty one team and young would have to blow up he and Collins would have to play a lot of games and a lot of minutes in any up. Maybe the second unit defense could be a little bit better a young in herder. He can get a little bit deandra hunter as a huge stud on the wing defensively right away. I'm not saying it's impossible for it to happen. I mean that's why these over unders are set at where you can go either way in theory but I still think that it's GonNa take a plot and you know if they could get the defense to be bad instead of bottom five in the league that would be a big step forward and you know maybe trae young just blows up again and they play Klay closer to like almost a top five offense with Gillian. Collins is a pre shooting around him is a pretty decent way to get started with an offense to be sure so maybe those guys just take uh uh step forward but I mean you see the things that I'm talking about that have to happen. That's a lot of things and so that's why I feel pretty comfortable with the under here so we move on Yeah. Let's go onto the Boston Celtics last year. Boston went forty nine in thirty three and they're over under is set at forty nine and a half wins and I think the biggest place for me to go. The reason I'm going under is that is the defensive end so last year. Boston finished seventh in the League. The point guard swap of Irving for for Kemba is certainly notable that will affect the team in many ways but losing al Horford Aron Baynes and largely replacing them with Ns kanner is huge and if Brad Stevens can get this group to put it all together and be a really strong defensive group more power to him. I think this is going to be another demonstration year for Stephen CS DS cobbled it together before so it's not impossible but without a Horford it'll be fundamentally different and this again. I it's entirely possible. You'll hear me say this for a while. I could see them doing this. Yes which is why. It's not one of my best bets but I don't expect it so I feel decent about the under here. I went for the under as well. I think having to get to fifty winds for this group not saying it's impossible but that seems like a lot for me. Now maybe a trade helps them at the end of the year because when you're talking about trading Kyrie Irving Kemba Walker and his as what several complained about Kyrie serving they still were awesome offensively when he was on the floor. There are basically a top five offense when he was on the floor. Kemba certainly did a ton to drag Charlotte's offense up as well but he's not not as good as irving might play more games irving. I think only played in the sixties last year. He has a little bit better health record but there's the potential age regression the joining new teams penalty that you'll see the Kevin Pelton has talked about a lot as well but if you're gonNA Trade Kemba Walker An and his canter replacing career ring and Al Horford. I think maybe you could argue that. Cantor is better than Horford on just offense. I'M GONNA say probably not when you throw in the spacing and passing that Horford provided and that they were being is still better than Walker so I would say they are going to take a little bit of a step back on offense and then pretty big step back on defense the the loss of Horford and Baynes as you mentioned. They're really just going to need someone to step up and then the other thing that you look at it is whereas the Internal Improvement GonNa Comfort like if you're going to see Jaylen Brown Jason Tatum Gordon Hayward all have much better seasons than.

hawks Evan Turner trae young Kyrie Irving Kemba Walker John Collins Al Horford League Dwayne deadman Atlanta Alex Len Aron Baynes West Gate Brad Rowland Boston Danny Boston Celtics Brooklyn Nets Brad

"Most of the rotation will be rookie scale contract players or true rookies playing in their first year. Which is why I I liked the hawks talent there long term potential but it's also why have them as is the eleventh seed in the Eastern Conference. Yeah I'm sort of with you. I feel like if you look back at the history of the League and young up and coming teams whether it's you know Lebron's cavs or the thunder or whoever it honestly the outliers kind of the sixers the sixers of sort of you know one or two years with embiid and Simmons and embiid kind of had that layer. I'm sorry Dr Simmons had that kind of gap year so he's really like a third year guy but they sort of made up actual playoff push when they were younger but that typically doesn't happen a ton in the league and you talk about trae young Stevens. I just think you know I think that is a concern but I mean are there are rookies ever-greater defense. I mean typically come into the league. It's it's probably an adjustment period for them right and that's something that he can certainly grow. I don't know if he'll never be probably an elite defender in the League but you know they obviously drafted him because of the excitement level in almost like hey we want to kind of make a Steph Curry Warriors East type thing or correct I mean they're going to probably be one of the most fun team to watch on leap past this year. I think they will Steve. I don't think there's any question about trae. Young's offensive ability. His scoring ability is passing ability the excitement that comes with them. I just physically I have some concerns about you mentioned the guys don't always come into leagues good defenders. I think you have a good point. There are some guys have the physical tools in the length and the strength to do that and I think trae young is just physically. It's not his fault he was. He was born that way so there's two years. I don't see him getting a whole lot bigger or stronger more physical so I think that will always be a challenge but again. I'm not trying to bag on the hawks. I like the Hawks. long-term potential will actually liked the bulls a little bit better mentioned that I had the hawks of the eleven Chicago slightly ahead of of Atlanta because of the Veterans Day brought in guys like Thaddeus young and tell US senator rand ski and then having a full season of Otto Porter this year with their young talent so I think those are two up and coming teams in the Eastern Conference but you made the best point I think earlier. Steve is that you generally don't win with young players. Which is why I have. Brooklyn is the sixty Miami is seven in Orlando is eight to round out my playoff teams in the east because I think those teams have more experience dance and they're more proven than young teams like Chicago and Atlanta all right so the closest thing out we know we're GONNA five years basically the Magic Keaton Pistons in three as that team's teams fringe playoff guys the Hawks and the Bulls into your four as young teams. Maybe pushing for that eight spot and then you've got the last year which which are basically the bottom for in the East. I think that's almost as agreeable as the top two in the east. That's that's your knicks that you're wizards. That's the Hornets and that's the cavs. These are all in my potential tanking to your right scall- scall- start with you I mean. Is there anything interesting about these teams. I think the one thing that I find interesting about the bottom four teams in east at least if Bradley beal ones out and ask for a trade. He's probably one of the most valuable guys there is on on any of those teams so that's a potential guy that maybe contender can pick up otherwise. I I can't see the Knicks have been made fun of their entire offseason basically striking out and getting no one inside a bunch of guys two year deals the Hornets I have no. I have no idea what the Terry Rozier contract was about that a little bit of a panic by and the cavs are subtle sort in rebuild the old moat so is there anything that you think about those bottom four teams at that you find interesting or do you think that maybe they'll exceed expectations or those kind of the four that are going to be at the bottom. Here's a better question to mcdonagh like how would you navigate the Brad beal Washington situation. If you wait too long the you can probably lose acid acid but you're starting to see like the amount of things that were that that Oklahoma City Paul George the amount of assets that they got for Anthony. Davis isn't that Brad beal is young but isn't it better to go down that road or is it better to keep this guy and trying to build around him even no. He's going to be probably supermax eligible. That's a I don't. I wouldn't know how to handle the Brad beal situation especially with the team. That doesn't like going anywhere. It's a tough call scale and it's an organizational decision and one of the challenges I think from a front office perspective is even if the owner says he's okay with it today. Let's let's say Ted Leonsis owner the wizards tells Tommy Sheppard their new. GM that he's okay with a full blown rebuild will still be okay with it six months from now or a year from now or the two years from now when they're getting their brains beat in and winning twenty games and I have a bunch of young guys who have no idea what the heck they're doing and so I think that's the challenge looking at Brad beal's those contract situation. I think is important. It's been reported that he has a three year one hundred and eleven million dollar offer on the table from the wizards and as far as an extension. He's going to sign that which I think is smart guy so the only reason for for me. I think Brow Brad beal would think about signing that contract is that he has had some injury issues in the past but if you look at the next couple of free agent classes this upcoming year especially in twenty twenty and then looking out to two thousand twenty one. They're both pretty weak. Classes Brad beal has two years left on his contract contract so we would be a free agent in twenty twenty one and would stand to make a lot more money over two hundred million dollars over four or five year term so I think bill does declined that extension and then I think Washington has the decision to make with two years left on his contract so my guests gal is to what happens is that Washington will start the season. We'll try to win as many games as they can. Then when the calendar Clicks over to twenty twenty if they're realistic and they all finish or they're all in and then the bottom for the eastern conference which is where we think they will be then then they'll have to take a hard look at themselves and say all right with a year and a half left on his contract Brad bills maximum value is now are we willing to pull the trigger to get a big package by sending ending amount at the trade deadline because as you guys know once a guy gets into the last year of his contract and he's going to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of that contract his value goes down in the package you bring back in return in a trade for a start like. Bradley beal gets a lot worse than it would be either right now or at the trade deadline in February okay and is there anything I mean. Is there anything anything that you know Ryan from you from any of those other bottom teams. It's sort of interesting what did you what did you think of the Horlick sort of panic situation in Sante Rosie. I mean it seemed like hey we lost Kemba and all of a sudden. We need right. We need to find somebody who just throw money at this Guy Steve. Their financial situation is so bad that they have a lot of bloated contracts to guys like Nicholas Tomb Michael Michael Kidd Gilchrist Cody Zeller. The list goes on and on. It's not a pretty salary cap. She Marvin Williams and no disrespect to those guys as players. They're all solid players but they're all grossly overpaid so the Hornets really didn't have a choice when when Boston agreed to do the sign and trade with Terry Rozier going to Charlotte it was great for terriers here because I think that's more money than he would have made elsewhere but I have the Hornets as the fourteenth team in the east the second worst team in the Eastern conference ahead of only Cleveland's not only because of the loss of Kemba Walker but guys they also lost Jeremy Lamb. Why thought was their second best player year ago. They lost their backup point guard and Tony Parker I why they lost Frank Kaminsky. I I just have a number of questions I think Charlotte has the worst backward in the League when you look at the starters but also their bench and you know looking at their depth chart. I can't figure out WHO TERI Rhodes ears. Backup is at point guard. Is it devante grand. The guy was a rookie out of Kansas last year so I think they didn't plan very well for this over a number of years in giving the contracts contracts they gave out the rookie scale extensions game out to some of those guys. I just mentioned I think it finally came back to bite him. Not only did it cost Kemba. It cost him the ability to add quality depth which is why I think unfortunately for Charlotte. That'd be one of the worst teams in the league this year. I don't really have to CHIME IN ON CHARLOTTE DO I. It's not it's not mandatory for me. I'm just shell. We'll get to make sure because mcdonagh can give you all the breakdown in the long term stuff. I'm just saying like you know it is Charlotte Yeah. There's really no. There's really no redeeming qualities right for them right. Now I mean it was basically just Campbell Campbell last year. That was the reason that you would watch him pass and now it's like. I don't know maybe it's just watch it for the disaster. Who knows I'm always interested in when Michael Jordan's GONNA give up the baggy pants and go to the ski never sued he said decades to do that and he hasn't done style one day. I talked to Dominique Wilkins and I was like dominate you gotTa Tell Your boy. MJ They go back skinny jeans van. They're not he's going to wait until they come back in style. It's like two thirty years down the road. That's right exactly he's he's. He's a long term play for him. You can get a whole new wardrobe while the guy's worth billions of dollars so he could buy whatever wardrobe he wants to but he's just doing the long play man. The baggy look is comfortable. I'm not going to be honest. I'm kind of you guys know. I'm I'm Kinda Skinny Jeans Guy. I'm thirty whatever little bit younger. I've never been in the baggy clothes you but they do look a nice yeah. You've been a millennial your whole life you have to build up to you you know being generation X. or whatever generation Michael Jordan's domino player by a stylish icon back in the day but now he just I like maybe he's like your twenty years earlier ten years early between that and the Hoop Berryman like one of these days like he'll be laughing at.

"Oh presence you had marcus smart like trying to guard everybody because every like trying to inspire his team with hard defensive play but you had no presence in any type of pick enroll on the ball and you had no presence at all at the Rim if Al Horford Aron Baynes and sometimes even with Al Horford out there there is no Aron Baynes. Oh you were questioning what type of defensive identity that this team had so they're floor is like that six seven outside of the nets outside of Toronto without side of Indiana because they just can't stop people and I heard this thing. I'm not sure where it came from. Even though I've been spreading this rumor for about ten years now cancer can't guard anybody. I don't know if people know that or not but he can't guard people no interest no. I think he's now interested. I think he's now interested in gardening people but I don't know if he has the ability to do it. Yeah Ryan you with that. I mean I obviously replacing cantor with a I'm sorry replacing Horford with Kanter. I mean there's a pretty large drop off there. I mean I know Horford's thirty three and he's out there ain't GonNa be contracts and they'd be with the right financial decision going forward for them but I can't imagine their front core is is. They can't look at that and go yeah. We're we're we're okay. We'll be right for the season losing Al Horford now I agree with the Stephen A. Scale to answer your question. I think a lot of the concerns with cantor started with Billy Donovan when he famously said that one of his assistant coaches when Kanter was in Oklahoma City can't play kanter remember that clip went viral Billy Donovan of the bench she can't play Kanter and and and the cameras picked it up and and that was it that was reputation was was toast but the reputation gene is deserved. He does struggled offensively as you guys know in high pick and rolls skirting the high ball screen is the most important defensive action to guard in today's NBA and we'll teams will do do I mean Houston does this as the main focus of their offense. They'll just run. Pick after pick after pick it to get James Harden or it was Chris Paul now. Russell Westbrook isolated later on a poor defender and in Boston's case. That'll be cantor so to answer your question Steve. I don't think there's any way the celtics fall out of the top five or six in the east. I just don't think the conferences France's that talented and that deep after the top five or six teams for the Boston to be let's say a seventh or eighth seed or even non playoff team but I do think they will struggled offensively because as I think they are a bit deficient at the two most crucial points they're a little bit deficient at the point with Kemba Walker whose an elite offensive player but not a very good defender and they're also deficient at the center spot with cancer so I wonder how that will work in tandem and I thought scale made a great point about Marcus Smart. He's going to have to do a lot and be everywhere for the Celtics to have a chance to be averaged averaged defensively and the way they went as being very good offensively which includes getting to the basket in scoring in the restricted area at the rim. It's almost an hour to get Etsu. You know the the reigning champions but it's kind of an odd off season for this team of losing their best player obviously in the clippers and then losing Danny Green and you know they're they're asking a lot of guys to decide step up and maybe be something they haven't been in the past number one being passed calcio calm. You know there are team that I put in that second here where I go. They're they're basically a guaranteed playoff team but and we've always talked about you know in in all sports whether it's football basketball baseball there's the championship hangover right so not only do the rappers lose. Their best player lose another great role player but they've got. Maybe the championship hangover thing hanging over their heads as well. I mean what what are you look. What what are the rappers going to look like this year like his CIOCCI. I'm ready to make that jump. I mean obviously lowery is going to have to take a bigger role as well. I mean are they still are they. He just kind of an average Middle Eastern conference team now know what they are. They're like a an average team in the regular season that they could like with internal grove like if Seok improves away he did from last year to this year and he continues to get better eventually gets better to get some young guys who can improve. They can be dangerous in the playoffs but I I'm not sure they're going to have a hangover. It's easy to tap out when you just lost quite Leonard as the season goes along with other guys are old. I thought lowry I thought Bacha I talked to Seoul at times. Last year looked old up. Intel basically weekly when they were down two zero to Milwaukee. They completely turned everything around from that point on but there have been times they're they've looked really old and quite. Leonard bailed him out. Remember when I met her twenty three games he sat out for low management and they won seventeen of them during that time so I don't know what this team is really going to be like but I can totally see them being a disappointment or kind of allowed people writing off trying to prove to the world that they were better than just quite Leonard in the Game Ryan. What do you think I had Toronto seed in the Eastern Conference. Although I think that maybe a little low guys I thought about ranking them as high as third and here's a lot a lot of the questions I have about some of the other teams ahead of them Indiana in Boston. We talked about some of the potential issues there. A scale mentioned the raptors record a year ago. When Leonard did not play was was great they were seventeen and five last year when I didn't play Losing Kawai Hurts Losing Danny Green will hurt but I I think the development of their young players led by Paschal Siachen and Fred Vanfleet and I'll give you guys another one to keep an eye on who I thought had a very good rookie year. Og in an ob who Greta appendicitis and wasn't able to play a last year down the stretch and into the playoffs. I think he has a chance to be a very good three and d player who look he's not Leonard but fits into the slot and we'll play a defensive role with some spot up shooting involved so I think Toronto. We'll have a chip in their shoulders. I think there is a void in the east after Milwaukee he in Philly atop so I have Toronto as the fishy but I think they could be as high as third and I think they're a team that I wouldn't be surprised if we're talking about them. Winning a playoff series in advancing to the conference semifinals being one of the final four team standing in the eastern conference so moving on in sort of the tier ranking so we basically and including the nets in this because I think we all think they're gonNA make the playoffs. We're not sure I mean there. There seems like their best days are ahead of them whenever they get Kevin Durant back so they're almost kind of an afterthought going into the season. I think all of us were there's probably a lot to be in the playoffs so if you look at that we've got about six teams in the east that we really think are playoff teams that leaves two spots for for for for Romy basically five five or so teams. That's the magic that's the heat. That's the Pistons that's the Hawks and maybe even the Bulls if you WanNa put them in that discussion for me the heat earn interesting case for me because obviously you add all NBA tight player Jimmy Butler but I'm not sure I love that roster a ton and I. I don't know if they're going to be I don't. They're going to be a threat in the east. I think they'll probably hovering around the eighth seed. Obviously the Magic and Pistons were playoff teams last year do they continue to take steps forward. They take steps back and then you've got young team. You got the young hawks. That seemed to be kind of the hot. Pick that everyone is is sort of going with this potential playoff team and I know Scott. I know you're really into the Hawk this year. I think the hawks are GonNa be one of the more fun teams to watch period in the NBA. My only thing is an tell me what you think about this. My only thing with the Hawks and a potential ENTRA playoff run. This year is it's. I think young teams typically especially like in their second run through it will be portray young. I don't think those teams typically. I think we have a ton of success wins and losses wise. I think maybe as far as advanced numbers. Pr Whatever I think a lot of those guys John Collins may take a step forward and they may look better but I'm I'm not sure I think they still might be a year away for making a real playoff push. What do you think scale no. I got them making the playoffs this year. I think Collins should've been an all star last year. You were thinking is is that that coaches nightmares things like running hard to the basket off the screen. offensive rebound sprinting in transition. I think I think the guys like right on the border of being an all-star trae. Young is a B C can pass the ball and no one ever talks about a love the pool up from thirty eighty five feet but the guy's like really on par with Steve Nash as a passer and I know he's small but the hawks at the end of the year at Kevin hurt her to admits it so I don't know a lot about their rookies this year. I don't know if those guys the kid from Virginia's GonNa be good or not because I see guys in the NBA for me to really know that group and the way they play as hard as they play. They're not gonNA come out the gates the way they did last year which by the way as they're getting their head beat in they're still playing are all the way till the end. Evan Turner is a good addition to what they do. He's he's the perfect kind of guy to be around that team. He's a good passer. It can make a pull up jump shot so I just think the hawks to me in the Eastern Conference have done enough to slide in there and I like them more than I like those other other teams so I'm going to put them in another team. I really like is Orlando. I think they got crazy size and length but Jonathan Isaac one of these guys could win most improved in the the NBA but high on the Hawk high on Orlando at this point right. I know I know you were talking a little bit earlier about some of the Hawks traffic is and I you know give give us your take on on the young guys in what you if you think young guys can really win early on in the NBA agree with a lot of what scale said but I'm going to disagree that their Atlanta's a playoff team in the eastern conference and here's why they added two more rookies in the top ten in this year's draft with the hunter the wing from Virginia and Cam Reddish rush the shooting guard from Duke I think anytime you draft to rookies in the top ten and make some trades to get those rookies expect those guys to play and play a lot. you know they have some veterans on the team scale mentioned Evan Turner. One of the questions I have about Atlanta guys is who is their backup point guard. I heard from the Hawks camp that it is going to be Evan Turner which is a little bit interesting because I think the style would be completely different if you start trae young at the point and then when he goes to the bench you bring in Evan Turner. you know the the hawks with trae young play up-tempo pace in space. They spread you out. They shoot a lot of threes. scale mentioned trae. Young's playmaking ability. He's going got to be a very good pick and roll player. Evan Turner completely different he. He's a slow slow it down back the ball up the court. He has to turn his back a couple of times to get the ball across half court and kind of ease you into your offense so I I have some concerns there also some concerns about how the hawks are going to look a defensively Steve. You mentioned some of the advanced numbers some of the advanced numbers are the ones I look look at say that trae young may have been the worst defensive player in the entire. NBA last year and I think those are some of the questions I had about trait in the draft. I was jammed the suns at the time time I actually had shade. You'll just Alexander ranked ahead of trae young. I know that was somewhat controversial and I think there's room for for debate. They're all I think probably in the minority there after the rookie two years but I was really high on shakiest for trae young so I've concerns about the Hawks defense their backup point guard and more than anything Steve. How many young players they are going to have to play..

"Can't we pretty much everything we can the top to let sort of move on into what I would call the best the rest right. I mean you still got another thirteen teams in the conference I I've sort of put this and I was talking to Ryan about this earlier. Scou- away in to you know I sort of put these these teams. It's not I think you've got. We just talked about it. The Buck sixers of the true contenders in the East right and then that next that next tier I've sort of have the best of the rest and that's where I put Boston. I PUT INDIANA I put Toronto even put Brooklyn in there as teams that are probably near locks to make the playoffs scowls. Would you say that's fair with all. Those teams locks to be in the playoffs. That's very accurate. I don't know how any of those like one thing that's really interesting is Kyrie think about since they won the title he has not up in good in the regular season. His teams have been disappointing it like Cleveland even them who didn't care about the regular season Boston with once Cairo got hurt they kind of went on a run and he got to a couple possessions of the NBA Finals last year career. Zehr he's always talking about as a playoffs playoffs house playoffs and it was a big disappointment so I think I have a lot of questions to answer the season with Reno with winning assert with everyone knows he talented counted player. Everyone knows he can do amazing things with the ball but can he navigate the eighty two game season so I don't know where that stands. I Know Indiana's GonNa play hard. I liking the Anna like they're bigs. If Victor Oladipo comes back and he's great which I assume he will be there'll be topping Boston third. I GOT INDIANA FOUR TORONTO FIT Brooklyn six. That's how I have. My order is similar Steve. Although I have Indiana third a lot of that is banking on Victor Oladipo coming back relatively early in the and Kevin Pritchard the president of basketball operations for the Pacers who does outstanding job every year said Oladipo return will likely be some the time December or January. If that's the case. I think the Pacers have a chance to get the third seat support of it is part of my prediction. Putting Indiana third is banking on all the a deep overturning relatively healthily. Keep in mind guys. The Pacers were thirty two and fifteen and in the number three seed a year ago in late January before Victor Oladipo. Oh got hurt before he ruptured that quad tendon in his right leg now they bring back all the depot when it when he returns to the lineup healthy they also return miles turner and D'Amato Simonas but what one of the reasons I have Indiana third is I really liked their off-season. Editions Upbringing Malcolm Brogdon who I thought at times was the Milwaukee Bucks Second Best Player. Even some of the playoff Surrey's Milwaukee. I thought after Janas Brogden was the number two guy on that team. I also like the editions of Jeremy Lamb. TJ Warren and TJ McConnell and keep in mind when Indiana they won forty eight games again last year for the second year in a row and you know in my opinion Boston and Toronto took a step back from where they were a year ago which is why I have the Pacers. I potentially getting the third seed in the Eastern Conference. The Pacers are an interesting one only as you said like it could be December January for oil depot to come back broadened. Can maybe handle some of the load until then but this is a team that might be you know hopefully peaking come playoff time and I you know I I don't know if they'll finish third as we've been talking about the order in in in the regular season which almost don't even necessarily matter sometimes but I see Indiana being the third best team just based on talent and as you said scale I mean mean they're bigs are awesome even even their front core and they've all depot comes back you know similar to he was when he was absolutely ball and last year. This is a a team. That's that's that's probably GonNa have a stranglehold for the third best team in east going forward careful they could have. I know like I'm high on Philly. I'M HI affiliate the playoff team but depending on Horford age and how they navigate. MVP Indiana has like the type of players that fight during the regular season you can go a long way by being prepared and going into the game having hard playing guy and especially with did guys that have chips on their shoulder they in their mind they fabricate how they been done wrong or the credit and other superstars get Indiana. China has the makeup of that so I I really like Indiana. I just I'm assuming depots. GonNa be like he was not last year because he was even nicked up before he got hurt. If he is how he was the previous season then I got Indiana being a really tough team to get out of the playoffs but if he's if he's not a slowdown in slow out the the gate they just have such a hard time scoring the basketball without oh the depot out there and it's going to be interesting what half of October and November looks like for them. What do you think about the Celtics and right. I'll start with you and we'll get us. I mean because this is a team two years ago that we're talking about you know in the post abroad era basically taking over as the team to be going forward like they they had they had vets they had young guys they had they had everything they had drafted acid literally everything you could ever want it and last last season or the bottom fell out a little bit and I think they lost a lot of their shine fine and whether that was chemistry issues with Kyrie and some of the younger guys whether that was Brad Stevens and you know and some of his starting line-up specifically with Gordon Hayward I I think people were sleeping in Boston and I'm not necessarily saying that they're going to come out and surprise when fifty five games like they did two years ago but do you think Ryan that. This is a team that you know basically basically it's almost addition by subtraction getting rid of Kyrie. Maybe bring in a guy like Cambo. WHO's more of a team friendly guy who can get some of these young guys you know some of the shots that they may feel like they were missing a year before like I just I just look at Boston. I go there like a total wild card to me. I agree with a lot of what you said. Steve The reason I haven't fourth in the east and not as one of my top three teams is because of the loss of Al Horford. I just think Horford was so important to them. At both ends of the court scale would know better than anybody watching him play every night but I don't think they replaced placed. Al Horford they brought in Kemba Walker who I think for a number of reasons starting with chemistry and unselfishness and his attitude will be a net positive when when you compare Kimbe to Kyrie Irving but I think kanter compared to Horford is a downgrade for Boston now all that being said I think the key for the Celtics this is internal improvement everybody points to their young players and Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown who were now playing for team. USA and who most of us think have a chance to be stars in this league. I'll give give you one more. Guy Steve that I think his internal improvement or worry is health. Wise is the key to that team and that's Gordon Hayward because I thought he got off to a slow start last year. I did not look very good in two thousand eighteen when the calendar turned over to two thousand nine hundred ninety looked a little bit better toward the end of the year and you know. I heard he's been in Boston. All summaries been working out with their coaching staff up so I think if Gordon Hayward kin in any way resemble the player that we saw in Utah Jazz before he got injured then Boston has a good chance to be a home court playoff team in the eastern conference. Here's where I'm at with this team right. Now I a lot of people can point the chemistry and maybe and they were messed up last year for whatever reason right I'm not sitting here and I never thought it was all Kyrie's fall young is getting some success getting it taken away from them to following year they were about to possessions away from going to the NBA finals and two possessions away from dethroning the king and the next thing you know they're coming off the bench and they're the deferring to Kyrie deferring Gordon Hayward. That's how the seasons started by sheer but here's a big concern of mine last year thirtieth in the NBA at hat points in the restricted area twenty ninth in the NBA free throw attempts so I don't care if you're seeing coon by making s'mores and doing doing all these things going on retreat doing zip line tours whitewater rafting all the things that these people do to build camaraderie if you're thirtieth breath in the NBA restricted area fuel goals. You're GONNA suck now. You may be good defensively but offensively you're not going to be good because if people are not afraid of you getting to the basket and then from there you're not making the right play and kicking it out and there's no threat at the rim where we talk about John S S. or Ben Simmons or embiid. Those guys are getting to that restricted area. It's you can't do that in this league. There's only so many pull up jump shot step back three that you can take to be successful so they better figure out a way to get to the basket and I'm with mcdonagh on this one Gordon Hayward. He can't be you to pull up. Jump Shooter Gordon Hayward what makes Gordon Hayward good is his ability to get to the cup and what makes them good is his physical presence when he has the ball in his hands like he's got not play like a white guy. He's got to play like a guy that gets downhill. He's not J. Rhetoric. He's not a pool of jump shooter. He's he's a guy that attacks the basket and when you take it away he finds guys so if Gordon Hayward is that guy the celtics are going to be really good if they continue to shoe you pull up jumpers. They're just going to be like every other team out there. They'll be middle of the road and be a second round exit yeah. Maybe it's one of those things to talk about a catastrophic injuries of whether it's dis obviously his was his leg and lower leg and ankle and you know coming back from stuff like that because you missed so much time and then you know you're kind of thrust in there the following year a lot of people states. It's not two years until you're fully healthy again right where and maybe if hayward finally comes out this year like sort of throws caution. The wind just screw it. I'M GONNA go back to my old self my body. It feels good again. Brad's got trust in me my teammates trust me this this and that. I'm totally with you. I could see Boston being one of those being the third or fourth seed in the east but like what I mean what. What do you think they're floor. Is I mean are they a this thing go any further than six probably not in the east there floor is is how bad their defense is going to be without in. Baynes Al Horford last year it was glaring when Aron Baynes and Al Horford were not on the floor defensively they had zero..

"eastern conference" Discussed on Big Time Basketball

"Oh happy to do it that I can't believe like. Basketball is on the horizon where it did seem like a particularly long off season. Maybe it's because the sixers are good now. and the off-season isn't as full as it used to be for us so I'm excited to get going. I WANNA start there with you because you know we've sort of been talking about I was saying earlier I think we all agree agree that the sixers might have the best starting five in the NBA but there's concerns about the bench and they've they've got some new faces. You know we think it's a it's obviously a two team race at the top of the Eastern conference between the sixers and the bucks how much how much better do you think this sixers team is than they were last year if you think they are well I mean so there are a couple. The different sixers teams last year. It's clearly better than the sixers team that started last year. I mean it seems like a hundred years ago but the sixers team that started last year started Marco Foltz and that's when they were doing that whole dance and starting Jj Record Jj redick and the you know in the second half and I I think they were sort of a mess to start last year the question about are they better than the team at the end of last year I think they could be. I wasn't a really big and continue to not be a big Jimmy Butler guy yeah. I think he's a talented player obviously but he he has this thing where I think he needs to be the focus of an offense and I don't think you're winning a championship ship with Jimmy Butler as the focus of your offense so I think that while they were good at the end of last year and they showed a lot of flashes of being really good. I I know point last year thought that they could win the championship. this year's roster is really interesting and that the starting. I don't does seem like a starting lineup that will be when they're when they're trying almost impossible to score on but there's so many things that you know past the regular season that they they have to figure out you know there's the idea of embiid. Horford playing at the same time which you know Horford in twenty nineteen is more of a center than he is a power forward. There's who is the guy with the ball in his hands the end of games there's whether Ben Ben Simmons can shoot at all and then if you can't what that happens to him during the postseason and then Josh Richardson is a really Nice player but I am curious curious to see on a team where he is you know the third option the fourth option of what that looks like you know how he is as a spot up shooter which will need to do a lot so I think that they are likely better because embiid is likely better and Simmons likely better but what they're feeling is and how they figure it out. I'm not totally sure yet. You talked about a bunch of stuff that you're worried about but you have to be positive going into the season you mentioned. Al Horford how he's as a senator now but he is a forty percent plus three point shooter good decision maker seems to fit in with envied seems a guy that could fit in with Simmons. So what are you most excited about with this team and tell me why you think they could get over the home. Well I mean I'm most excited about you know I think one of the the really interesting things that the rockets did when they had both harden and Paul was that you sort of had this idea that at no time time joining a forty eight minute game will you not have an elite Creator on the court and I think the sixers have like the opposite version of that now with embiid and Horford and at for forty eight minutes a game they should have a dominant top three top four big man defender on court then on the wings you know having Richardson who is a plus plus plus defender. Having Been Simmons who showed signs last year of it being like you know could be elite level defender. I think the thing that I am most excited about what the sixers is their size and their defense I you know that when it comes down to it in the play offs being able to guard the other team and then being able to score in the half court or the the the two things that that are most important. I'm sure that they will be able to guard the other team the question is you know how they're scoring in the half court and I'm sorry this bit concerned. Thing is just a Philadelphian thing by nature I I'm born and bred to to look out for the things that I'm worried about as opposed to things I'm excited about called Spike scale and I were having a debate before you came on air. Scale has philly as the number one in the eastern conference. I have Milwaukee slightly ahead of the seventy sixers and one of the reasons for that is I have concerns about the Philadelphia is wing defenders or their lack of proven wing defender and you know I think doc Tobias Harris to me is the ideal stretch for but he's going to have to play more at the three so tell us your perspective on that and the general sentiment in Philly of the fans as far as yes. It's the talented team. I think they're starting. Five skewed is any maybe better than any in the league but it is a little bit bigger a little bit slower than most teams today and I just wonder who will guard the elite wing players on the opposing teams in a playoff series yeah they're going to be the real question is they. I was not super. I don't mind that they drafted viable. trading up to draft viable seemed like a a kind of a rookie move in in showing their hand and way to early and getting caught and it it does put a lot of pressure on two guys in fiber and Smith who are you know. Smith isn't officially rookie but he's essentially a rookie and fibers a rookie and two guys that you're asking a lot of as rookies to guard opposing wing putters and even you know the best defensive player's wing defenders in the NBA are not that you know in the first few years of their career jrue holiday who was six or and he's finally come into his own. The last few years is defender but he wasn't the first four or five years he showed flashes but not championship unshipped level defense so I think a lot defensively on the wing. We'll come down to Richardson and Simmons. You know I think Simmons will be tasked with you you. When you think about who is going to guard that guy in the most important situations I think that will be Simmons and Richardson and their bench inch is is better than last year. You know I think Mike Scott is certainly a rotation player James. Ns is certainly a rotation player but beyond that on the wing you know and guard. Netto and Burke I think are you know not not great options as backup point guards and like I said they'll be depending a lot on Seidel and they'll be depending less on Smith but but more than you would want to under rookie spike at I want to concentrate on on embiid and Simmons here for a second to because obviously they're probably going to take this team as far as as they can go but there are guys that have a lot of questions about them right and with embiid. It's you know it's kind of the how much is in him. It's the it's a maturity thing and there were some issues like in the playoffs last year with with health reasons and just sort of overall general health lifestyle. You know the good news is. I don't think we've seen a ton of tweets at Riana this off season. We've seen no workout video. He's kind of stayed off social media which is nice. I think people like you know you a sixers. Fans are going. Hey is this guy so return to turn the corner and we also saw Ben Simmons shooting threes or some footage of him shooting threes in the gym and I'm sure that's something that a bunch of sixers fans want to see so what do you think is most important for the development in and for the sixers team to take the next step is it simmons shooting is embiid is being knowing he's the dominant center and just taking over Games being more consistent which one of those two of their star players which one of those scenarios you think is more important the sixers well. I mean they're both necessary like I you know I am bead. Being you know embiid has been that huge. Mvp Guy huge and I think he has the ability to not just be the best player in the east like I think a healthy embiid could be the best player in the entire. NBA just looking he. You rarely see players improve. Even during the season the way that he improves during the season you can watch him grow and things that oftentimes that will take other players years it looks like he picks up in a month but he's been in the League for forty years and five years four years five years and he's never been healthy at the end of any of them now whether that's missing the entire year whether just getting hurt at the end of them and and that they're never going to win a championship with their best player not healthy at the end of the year so you know the problem is is that most players do not really really really take their health super seriously as like a priority until their late twenties. You know that's a maturity thing and it's a you know you're not indestructible thing and for embiid. It's going to have to come now. You know it had to come last year really and it has to come now and his it's it's too. I think it's two main factors with him. It is first of all taking care of himself in the right way eating the right way working out the right way treating his body the right way but the other thing is that I think he has this thing embedded in his mind that he was hurt for so long and people criticized him for so long long. They criticize him well. He doesn't play backpacks or you know he never plays or he can't be great. Lesson plays and I think part of it was last year. He was setting out to prove to those those people that it was not an issue and that first half of the year he just played too much. He was leading the League. he was bleeding all centers and minutes per game for a long time. He was leading all players in minutes per game. I think for the first month of the season he played every back to back in the first month of the season and it's just like he's forgetting about the injury history seven two you know two hundred seventy pounds. It's he's just too big to be doing that. So I think his acknowledgement that he can't. He doesn't have to play every game he shouldn't be playing playing more than thirty one or thirty two minutes a game and preserving himself for the end of the year is important the Simmons thing as long as he thinks he's the point guard hard he has to shoot he and you know there are a lot of people are like well. He just has to be willing yesterday. Just has to take the take. The shots like I think that's Porsche it really like He. It has to be able to make the shots..

"What are you doing well. I'm I'm a little bias there given that he was at the hair salon here and not on the court some at the time when I was at GM Phoenix and so I understand you definitely don't trust him when he wanted to be here he was actually actually a decent player but unfortunately there are times he didn't want to be here and that led to some some issues and ultimately a trade to Milwaukee but looking at phillies scale one of the other concerns turns I have and it's a minor one. I mean look we're nitpicking. These teams are really good. I think we all think they're clearly the top two teams in the East but one of the concerns I have with Philly in the Payson in space modern. NBA. Is there a big team. Tobias Harris to me is naturally a power forward. They're going to play more at the small forward. I think out of necessity Acidy Al Horford I think especially as he ages at this stage in his career slots and better at the five and then he does the four but they'll play at the four because they have Joel Embiid at the five Bruce One of the best bigs in the League so I just wonder you know when they play Milwaukee who style win. I think the bucks will push the tempo. I think Mike holders five the system with with Robin Lopez. She Me Brooke Lopez's stretching the floor now. He's backed up by Robin Lopez. There's a lot of shooting a lot of spacing walkie will try to run philly off the court art and I. I think they have a chance to be effective doing that. In philly I agree with what Steve said I think they're starting five is talented as any in the league. I have some concerns about their their depth in their bench and also have some concerns about the size of their team that they're not a traditional lineup in today's NBA with a lot of a lot of shooting getting a Lotta spacing and a lot of athletes outside of their top five all right we haven't even talked about the loss of Jimmy Butler yet Josh Richardson coming in the fit between Al Horford and Joel Lembede and if that's probably the best thing for both their careers now so we're GonNa talk to a guy in Philly all about it all six or stuff coming up in just a second but first a word from ziprecruiter hiring could be a slow process cafe all tourists. "Shouts out to whoever wrote that study yeah man like. I don't know I just I. I don't like sweating for no reason if I'm at the beach and I'm sweating in. It's hot out like I I think that's fine but if I'm just walking around like walking to work or walk into grab food or something oughta be sweating. Let's say you don't have what it takes to live that Phoenix Arizona like no mcdonagh right. I was telling you the deck is I was down there for the final four a couple for years ago and that was in what I was in April and Man Dude. Everyone's just inside hanging out with air conditioning or yeah. That's not your staple. That's also may June July August guest in September and you know the summer goes and goes here and one of the things that happens to guys like Steve from Outta town who don't really know the deal is they have to airlift lift people off mountains they have to airlift hikers off some of the mountains here because guys like. Steve Up there for a hike and Nice Day and we'll get some exercise and then they don't bring enough water and they get hotton what an overheated and then all of a sudden in comes the chopper with the ladder to drag guys like Steve off the mountain to the hospital due to dehydration so that's that's what we're dealing with here in Phoenix at least for the next month or so listen. I know my limits. I wouldn't be making hikes like that so I'll sit that one out so anyways so as you're saying summers basically overdoses settled we got some. USA Action Team USA action scratch that hoops itch but we got a lot plan on the pod today. We're GONNA be preview in the eastern conference moves. We didn't like moves. We did like teams think that already make the next step. Ah We're asking me talking to a guy Spike Eskin host of the rights to Ricky Sanchez sixers podcast. He's a Philly guy part of the radio DOT COM sports family so I mean obviously the off season has been a lot about the sixers and some of their dishes so we'll get into a lot of that stuff with him and I speaking of the sixers. Let's let's just start at the top. You know I think in the a post era in the eastern conference. I think everybody pretty much has this thing as the two team race. It's between the bucks and the sixers and if you guys are if you guys think there's anybody else in play by by all means by all means. Let us know but I think it's basically you know by the time comes around. It's going to be the sixers and it's GonNa be the bucks fighting chance to make the NBA finals and a about a month back or a little bit more. TNT Charles Barkley made the claim that the sixers are the clear favourites in the east and that with the caveat being that embiid and Simmons improve their games. Maybe getting some better shape. Take the next step in their careers which for me is a pretty big caveat. I'm still I'm still running with. The bucks is the favorite in the east so scalper and there's to you if you think there's anybody else besides those two teams for Sir. Let us know and also do you kind of have a lean in the east yet. Oh I'm we have to break something down and we have to clarify because is the regular season. I think that that's one animal then there's the other animal which is the play offs and matchups in how do you if two teams play against each other or certain. Max Actions where maybe the Milwaukee Bucks wouldn't advanced but we're on that is I'm with Charles Barkley on. If it was a playoffs or starting right now now obviously seen seen any of these teams and how they're going to adjust to the different personnel but if the plants are starting right now to fill the seventy sixers just have better players they had better. You'RE A cop. There's top seven is better than the Milwaukee Bucks top seven so now the Milwaukee Bucks because the way that they play in the speed. You can't necessarily adjust adjust to the with it. They play in the regular season Janas in a guy. That's very difficult to adjust to in the regular season but in the playoffs when you have time you need bodies. You need athletes unique guys that create separation. I look at the seventy sixers as a team that it's going to be a much more difficult out in a seven seven game series of the bucks but that's where I stand right now with those guys because I don't value the regular season as much and the record and I don't know of home on court advantage would matter that much in that series bucks versus sixers. I'm with you there. Scout Ryan anything you WanNa add them and yet. I think you think is not not reasons. While do you have a lean yet. I leaned toward Milwaukee for a few reasons so the first is that they had the best record in the league last year. They won sixty games. They had the coach of the year and Mike buttonholes are the executive of the year in John Horst and they had the MVP and Yada did a Combo and I liked her continuity guys. I like the fact that they bring back not only honest but they re signed Chris Middleton and Brook Lopez who were huge for them a year ago and then returning guys like Eric Bledsoe or Saudi Sova George Richhill and Pat cannot and I think that gives them the opportunity to get off to a better start in Philadelphia. Does Philadelphia has a lot of Tien high talent starting with Joel Embiid in Ben Simmons but they also have some some new faces in Al Horford Josh Richardson who have to integrate and they lost Jimmy Butler and J. J. Redick in particular losing that shooting. I think were hurt so I think those are clearly the top two teams in the Eastern Conference those are the only two teams in the east that I think can contend for the NBA title every what five teams in the West could could win a championship and only Milwaukee Philly in the east but I have the bucks slightly ahead of the seventy sixers at this point in the race what would happen so clearly when you're talking about this in the NBA. We're talking about everyone gets their expectations which is Joel embiid is in shape and he's serious. CBS About Basketball and you have al Horford who ties his whole thing together and Ben Simmons is not afraid to go to the free throw line in the fourth quarter now. If if if that does happen which we don't know if it will wall because obviously hasn't started yet but if those things happen then you have the sixers better than the boxing what is it about the bucks is team and watching them play against Toronto and losing four straight games that you think that they're gonna be able to take that next step. Well a few things scale that that's a good question question. Those are all fair points. The first thing that I'm banking on is internal improvement especially from Jaanus and Janas career path reminds me and a lot of way of Lebron Ron James. You you know you you were there in Boston. In two thousand eight to two thousand and ten when Lebron was in Cleveland and the Celtics Defense led by Kevin Garnett and coach by Tom Thibodeau undock rivers was able to wall off the paint and dare Lebron to shoot and he couldn't make enough shots over the top of the defense and that's how you beat Lebron in Cleveland the first time he was in Cleveland I think the the game plan against the honest is similar to that scale although I think Janas will continue to develop and improve as shooter because as you know when Lebron got to Miami and any expanded his range and became a better outside shooter it was over. You couldn't guard the Guy Anymore you could not stop him and I think this is on a similar trajectory that once he has that outside shot he will be hands down the best player in the League and then I also look at how the bucks started the playoffs last year you mentioned the four losses in a row to Toronto that that is accurate but they also started the playoff ten in one they were rolling and up to Toronto in the Eastern Conference Finals. I thought nick nurse made a good adjustment by putting Kawhi Leonard on Janas neutralize Janas now this year. Toronto doesn't have that option and looking at Philadelphia's roster. I'm not sure they have that option either. As far as somebody that Brett Brown and the seventy sixers staff can put on Janas to neutralize him if the bucks sixers match up in the Eastern Conference finals I look at this. I mean for me. It's a trust thing because I I think you could make an argument and prong argument that the sixers have the best starting five in the entire league right. I don't think you guys would probably agree with that and yet the scale. You're you're saying I think the top seven that's the top seven of the book doesn't really necessarily match up with the top seven Australia. The sixers but I I look at it last year last year the play offs and the regular season like we're talking about this team as a team that could potentially challenged a healthy warriors squad that was that was a legitimate conversation that was being had their you know their youngest was. Kinda honest. I know it was in his first trip to the playoffs with first real deep run in the playoffs and there when they were cruising to oh I mean there were legitimate conversation. People saying this team is GonNa win the NBA Finals and you know Kawai and the raptors as you said as you said Ryan you know knickknacks made some great adjustments and they ended up and off four straight but I still look at you honest honest and that squad and that team and coach Bud and I feel like I trust that team more does does that make sense Gallo or Whoa. How do you trust the team where the wheels absolutely absolutely fell off of them who played Toronto Better Philly or Milwaukee Coast yet. You're sitting here gassing Milwaukee up because of the way that they played before a slight adjustment of putting your strongest defender on him now to me. They're just not well. Listen I get a knocking him with one of my favorite players on their team. I felt like he wasn't afraid of the moment. I felt like he had a feel for the game where the game dictated. I'M GONNA take three at a transition but not the next time you know we haven't made a shot in a while. I'm GONNA drive the ball to the basket. He's now in Indiana so the guys who I trust fourteen okay fine. I'll give you Janas. He's the best player in the League but outside of that you trust bledsoe. You Trust that group. Lopez the seven one Brook Lopez Zoos Zoo's doesn't ever post go inside you trust Middleton at times that he's GonNa. He's GonNa be consistent with his play and not just take week. Midrange pull up jumpers with a minute thirty to go when you clearly are in the bonus and he should turn the corner. I don't know if they're guys on their team that I trust now now. It's not like I'm sitting here saying that. Philly is his team. That had a bunch of guys that have been there there battle-tested but I mean that's when you add Al Horford to the mix it in Ben Simmons just naturally gets better because he just not like he ended up getting taller and get more athletic. He just has to be a little bit. More confident and EMBIID has to be a little bit more serious. Those are two things that are attainable as opposed to like what BLEDSOE has to get a better. I am blessed to me has not he's like one of these diet as talked about as big time player whatever you proven to me to be a big time player consistency if I'm going through the NBA. I'm picking point guards. I'm probably eighteen one thousand nine hundred twenty feet before I pick a guy like blitzer my team Ron..

"Barrett and worked on his name for a while for the something's going to get it wrong again ignace ignace prestigious yeah and those guys and they picked up the team option on <unk> here then then they signed julius randle bobby portis marcus morris taj gibson elford peyton reggie bullock wayne and wayne ellington and technically they bought their way from fifty five forty thirty seven for breast ecus which i really like i was like team can move up just for cash and the way that i want this. This'll be familiar. Framing for knicks fans who were listening listening to the off season grades podcast is to think forward to twenty one twenty two and what the knicks did this off season will have an impact on that team in a positive negative negative way and i think a lot of this like all so much of the cap space used in all of that stuff is just going to end up being a zero yes they did. You'd get a lot of team friendly second years or in the case of julius randle thirty years but i don't think there's going to be a lot of value created there and so then what you get into is the draft picks and and that's r._j. Burton prestigous and as even though. I think that there are elements of r._j. Barrett's game that i do genuinely love. I don't think he was the right pick it at number three yeah a- and i went for for an f. plus for them this off season and i think it's all about what you said to me was not the right pick. I probably would have had them in the five six ranger on my personal board now. Who should they have taken. I'd probably would have gone with garland there. I like kobe white better than him to. Maybe you could say barrett has higher potential than white. He plays it's more premium position <hes> so you get barrett and you know they've brought ceca's looks great at forty seven but it's the second round of we're not gonna that doesn't affect all this too much and so you still got kevin knocks on the eighteen you got dennis smith twenty twenty one that they at least you know they deserve some credit part of the plus on the f. Plus was you're not hamstringing their cap space <hes> even beyond this year in most cases and definitely not beyond the summer twenty twenty one run then sure they hoped to be players <hes> again in free agency but to do that all these young guys are going to have to hit and so you've brought in all these guys who are basically d- exact opposite of what you want around empowering and developing young players r._g. Barrett you know shock creator. What kind of gun or maybe not that efficient while you've got marcus morris and bobby portis and julius randle randall's a little more defensible. It's mean because these young. Maybe you know become a star. He is very productive and at least efficient you know portis morris <hes> those guys just don't make as much sense alford payton makes less than didn't zero cents on this team to me. I mean frank ntilikina. Yeah i know phil jackson drafted him so he's persona non grata but like he was injured. All at least eat showed some flashes. The rookie least give them a shot here. Are you know l. Pre payton is just the apple of scott perry's. I but you know there's very little indication that he's a good player. In him started. You've read up frank as being marginalized. Dennis smith could be much yeah yeah. If i didn't say him i meant to i mean that's obviously the other one and maybe maybe they view smith as a throne order. I still potential i. I think it's foolish to give up on him. So early i know shot poorly as a knick but we got a lot of athletic ability <hes> and so pretty decent vision yeah he's he's had some foibles but again you know he's only a second year player or the going into third year as a point guard right and so i- criticized the hawks for not putting the right pieces to figure out what john collins is and i think the knicks took that to another level by making it hard to evaluate their entire team and also develop..

knicks Barrett julius randle bobby portis julius randle julius randle randall Dennis smith frank ntilikina ignace ignace alford payton wayne ellington scott perry taj gibson marcus morris Burton portis phil jackson ceca bobby portis john collins

"There. Should we keep going here. Let's jump to the miami heat. This was another challenging one for me and part of the reason why they didn't make that numerically they didn't make that many moves but they were a exceedingly high profile so most important thing that they did it ended up becoming one trade but basically richardson and a twenty twenty josh richardson in an twenty twenty three i to acquire jimmy butler by signing trade which obviously hard captain as well would lead to some other moves but to make that happen they also traded hassan whiteside for hark list us in leonard and then they didn't have a second round pick they had a first roy and they also had to stretch right close to the hard cap right tim to make it work and so so then in the draft they had their own. I they chose taylor hero and then they did not have a second so instead. They treated three seconds to get number thirty two in draft stanford's. It's crazy. Oh paula who we didn't. We haven't really gotten to see so. That's that's going to be a big question about how that works out so i wanted to start with this. I ended up giving them a c minus. I actually was re toying with significantly lower grades and a part of the reason why is because i don't see jimmy butler as that big of an upgrade on josh richardson and he's makes perspective. Maybe not for me star perspective driving offense perspective then yes right but ended moving higher because butler can really make a huge difference in their identity they needed another another offensive creator which i think philadelphia's really going to miss and also it's so crazy how it ended up happening that i would have been lower on their series of transactions if they had ended up dumping goran dragons just because it would put so much on on jimmy butler plate now that leads issues in terms of twenty twenty who they're going to resign whether they're going to have the ability to kind of keep the parts of this together they want but i think having drudge and about were together makes them a lot more competitive nineteen twenty which is a big part of this idea so i think <hes> and getting off of white sides last year for harkness who if they had just done if the if the only thing had been whiteside for harkness and leonard let's say theoretically that'd be possible he would have been even higher on it because i really like about arcus and you would have been a great fit for the heat but that was kind even necessary additional salary to make the butler trade work and so that's how it all kind of cascaded together well the the drugs trade. I downgraded them for just screen that up because because there is miscommunication there and you know without knowing more you have to assign fifty percent of that blame decided and so the the drug trade networking then they were. I mean they are always always. We're gonna have to stretch anderson with this butler thing but then they also had to give up that first rounder to get off of heartless when carcass could help them and obviously the first runner could would have helped them as well so that was difficult. I don't know if they don't think they could have kept heartless but it was financially again because of the hard cap and three well well. There's a question there is a thing there that theoretically based on how you and i value trades could they have given up a first buyers leonard instead and kept heartless to me. It's har meyers. Leonard makes the same basically say money eleven point three million if you could get a i if you get a first-round pick for taking on eleven point three million. Some teams definitely could have done that yeah. That's an interesting you want. I mean that's <hes> maybe they felt like they wanted leonard. I mean certainly the clippers preferred coast. Maybe that really was the price that just at that point with everyone knowing the heat were desperate. They had agreed to this. They're they're hard cap..

"Of question russian for them and this is more something that i didn't factor to my grades but will but will in the regraded think about in the future is beyond the tristan thompson and turn carson type decisions could could they have done something with kevin. Love was this possibly even though he had largely lost season due to injury. It's possible that even so this was the best time to move it because if that if that contract looks more negative right now you've had the possibility of oh man he was hurt still a talented player you know like the the the offense of juice still there but if he if he isn't in this good this year and basically just misses another forty games through injury which very well then it's entirely possible that even if the if the offers were uninspiring that it was still a mistake not to move him because loves not fit their timetable obviously and he makes a ton of money. You know he makes enough where yeah cleveland kinda like charlotte. I don't think they're going to be a free agent destination but there is still value to having that flexibility because you could take on allen crab you can take on mohawk lesser would always they're. They're always those types traits available. You can get a little something for it and if love's contract ends up being as negative as i feel it will be then they might have missed the opportunity to strike so but the thing that i really liked it. They basically bought from pick. We had seen that wasn't as blatant as the rudy gobert pair one but i love that and i i i move up for that and i moved down the team that sells it basically anytime the half and also i think love at least keeping him around even if he kinda falls apart. He's always going to be good to help their young guards. Developers picking pop ability is floor spacing ability not a guy that you can just switch on a one five pick and enroll as well and yeah. They're going to be atrocious again defensively this year but that wasn't and you know. Maybe i should have gone a little bit higher. <hes> it's more at a guy like most if not everything everything that they did but you know we'll just see what the magnitude of that is. Obviously if garland looks like a player this'll be a next year right and team that makes so few moves each one of them becomes more important in terms of in terms they grading so if ler disappoints if puertas points bishops at the detroit pistons <hes> i went with a b for them saco dim boya at number fifteen the guy that we really liked the a lot when you consider what some of the other point guard contracts were derrick rose two years fifteen million player option or anything there was pretty good tony snell they. They picked up a first rounder. Which of course they later sold to basically take on about fourteen million dollars but he's not dead celery. I think he actually can be in their rotation. They've struggled to you. Get shooting at defense on the wing with this group and hopefully against a lot of teams. There's not a lot of those power wing types in the eastern conference snell could even play some three for them marquee morris forrest at the b. He did get a one plus one there but that was i think still a pretty solid movie. They can use a little bit more scoring and divas. I think he could play next next to blake griffin at times or next to andre drummond and then <hes> christian would they picked up on waivers though he his position may be threatened by michael beasley who they also picked up. I actually didn't hate that beasley signing because i think they use more scoring on their second unit. They're going to have some injuries tim frazier at the the minimum as a third point guard. They needed a solid third bunker. That didn't have it last week. Jose calderon and dirk rosa course <hes> and reggie jackson are <hes> certainly looking at a possible injury absence and then a d._v._d. Vitas number thirty seven..

"What other offers he had available talking with phoenix. I remember that rozier was going to be unrestricted. So the end he probably would have had other students. They did have to pay an charlotte is not that sexy of destination sandra under and remember that charlotte didn't have the means sign anybody else to the money. They signed terrorism. That's a great point two right so <hes> now and i don't think it really hurts them that much. I mean they're not going to be a cat space summation you know if they overpaid by four or five million a year if he works out to be a solid option that's why i just don't think necessarily gonna assault option you know but it's especially because they didn't go the fourth year and you know they didn't have to too much to get him. I mean the alternative would have been you try to sign more of a stopgap point guard with the emily. You know your sata ranchi or write right. You're <hes> you're <hes> titus jones. The point guard market certainly wasn't inflated one this year so maybe that would have been better but the other reason <hes> kinda downgrading them is. I didn't really care for their drafts of p._j. Washington much. I think he's kind of a hey you know not really a combo forward really more of a pure power or forward not incredibly athletic. Developing shooter probably didn't see enough of that to really believe in it at the the n._b._a. Level yet so we didn't get to see him in summer league. You know maybe he could work out but he's one of these guys. I criticized him as one of the least modern picks in the draft where it's like okay if he works out to be. What are you supposed to you know what is he really at and and as mentioned you know there's a lot of other guys on the board that we like but are men. Even someone like a romeo langford. Just get someone who's got some kind of ability. They also let jeremy lamb. Go for what those are pretty reasonable contract. I mean they're going to suck regardless here and at least you can say well you know it tank and you like all the way back onto the new lottery rules <hes> and then they didn't use the emily at all. That's another thing yeah that's where i wanted to go with it so the hornets are about eleven there about eleven million probably after after they signed cody martin price closer to ten million under the tax so they could have used the entire mid level without going into the tax and added a player who could actually help if you could do that in a couple of different ways..

"Not because of kyrie because i don't give them to which way for that for al horford because okay so basically do you agree with me that like the decision kinda was either bring back <hes> corporate or signed kemba because one of those two things like that those kind of their options assuming like because if they had if they signed horford they would have really had they had no way to get kemba because because they needed us cap space the i mean it probably would have required brooklyn playing ball which would have been difficult unlikely but maybe possible considering they did with warriors. Here's yeah i mean but that's this is too. You're creating a helping a team out that you are actively competing against and yes. Oh it's it's very different. Yeah i mean they would've had to send an asset back presumably to make that happen but yeah yeah. That's a fair point. I mean i was just i think about the contract that horford signed it seemed totally reasonable to me and because of the absence absence of horford univer functionally replacing him with any scanner it makes boston so much weaker to me in the immediate you know the they're going to miss him that and so it just makes them the interesting. You think that they are worse this year without no no. I agree with kemba as they need. They need that offensive identity. I think that's an important part but it's kind kind of like they do one without the other. You're getting your benefit. You're getting his march and that's the way it happens. You know you get everything you ever wanted most most teams and i think they're evaluation was al horford is going to be in his mid thirties over the life of this contract and that they have someone like kemba would probably have more trade value as well a so. I'm <hes> i think that was the right decision to go with kevin set horford so that would put you above a c. for for making that decision you you know you never know horford. Maybe he just wanted to leave but it sounded like he was kind of giving them a chance to come with a pig offer and they didn't do that and then he ended up looking elsewhere so we haven't discussed is they ended ended up trading to twenty four th pick and aron baynes who they basically triggers that salary and deal for milwaukee's twenty twenty i now we both expect that milwaukee. Doc is going to be very good this upcoming season though there is no guarantee and teams can look really good and then an injury or something else moves makes the draft picks significantly better. I mean i i think a significant motivator. There was just they had so many draft picks this right. It's just more roster spot motivated pair up sure and so it wasn't a supply okay. I think they will miss baynes this year just another a piece of their defensive backstop that isn't there anymore and they also yeah i i think they also had to dump him to get the numbers to raise as well yeah for walker your healthy yeah those the problem. I think they will miss him but i'm not dying over that. No no i'm not talking over it either but i i do think that it could be you know and and maybe there would have been another way to do it with like trading abu saleh instead of stretching how i run him because it was the timeline was so tight and baynes trade actually happened before for everything to see like could they have done it without him again it was it was just something that wasn't it certainly wasn't bad but i just made me feel a little bit weird because i'm wondering where they're going and also they're putting a lot on on probably robert williams to be a part of the rotation. Maybe it's gonna be just tyson tyson cancer. We'll see how that works out <hes> but yeah so like i i give them. I think you're going to go. Oh higher than this. I gave them a c. Minus and i understand why they did what they did. Even though i'm a little bit more ambivalent on their draft and that could be another big differentiator. That's something that should match with hawks like that. That's the reason they're their off-season..

kemba al horford aron baynes tyson tyson brooklyn abu saleh boston Doc milwaukee kevin robert williams
