"Flipper from the gun. We'll hand it off in a big run up the middle, Allen gets a first down plus at least 5 more to move the chains and Penn State want to take advantage of this gift of an interception. A good job by Penn State. They've been going so much too tight ends. They size down, they go 11, one tight end gets smaller bodies on the field. Easier Russian lands. First and ten from the 41, quickly getting it out into the flat to Alan. They keep going to the true freshman and he hears out of bounds near the 35. Then we'll bring up second down in about four. Staying spread again, one tight end out there spreading out personnel. So now that get some of these athletic mismatches on linebackers that are great downhill, maybe not as much Easter west trying to cover these bags. Second down and four, three wide with Sears, flipper off the play action. We'll quickly get it out to the perimeter once more. That's caught by Parker Washington. He runs out of bounds after getting the first down. And now we see a little bit of substituting going on. For this offense that hasn't quite been in hurry up, but there's been good pace for this offense this series was shot Clifford and Penn State. Good rhythm, good timing by everyone and they viewed that personnel grouping to give them some advantageous looks. 7 40 remaining in the third quarter here at Bieber stayed in Penn State leading 24 to ten and looking to strike once more after the interception by jair Brown. And they put two tight ends back on the field now in this area, watch out for a play action shot at the end zone. Wolford has two wide receivers split either side. He takes the shotgun snap, we'll hand it off to K Tron Allen and he has spun down to the ground after a game of one. Darnell Jeffries on the plate due to great job holding up the left guard at the point of attack. The former Clemson transfer of four years at Clemson partisan national championship teams there. Coming over doing a great job up front. One of the few transfers on this side of the ball on the defensive line room for Venezuela. Second down in ten out of 7 minutes to go in the third world wide receivers for shot Clifford. Nicholas singleton in the backfield. He has quickly flushed from the pocket and has to throw it into the dirt thanks to the pressure from Minnesota, including Jalen Logan Redding. They were trying to set up the screen there and they had it. I mean, you had a blitz look coming from Minnesota, but a great job by Michael Dixon in the back end of safety. He read that the entire way came and covered down on Nick singleton and made it along with the pressure in Sean Clifford's face unable to burn that one. Third down in ten from the 28 of Minnesota trips right one rider he was in the near side. Nice Clifford stands in the gun. Nicholas singleton off his left hip. Third down in ten, trying to get into the red zone. Flippers will sidestep and throw almost intercepted a flag comes out. Only person near that path was the Gopher quarterback Terrell Smith. That's pass interference on the defense. They were trying the double move for Harrison Wallace that looked like on that play. That's why you saw Sean Clifford going to a spot because his receiver was held up. He was just outside the reach of Smith. And Sean and Sean Clifford took a shot on that last play right now. He's sort of working out that throwing on. And remember he left it for defense number four. The ball recreation spot the final automatic push down. You talking about Clifford taking a hit, he left the last game against Michigan after he was injured and was questionable coming into this one. And I'll tell you someone who I'm sure even though it won't say it out loud is good gut through most things he feels on the field that Sean Clifford right now. Here's all the talk about drew aller and what people want to see. 6 39 to go first and ten from the 16. They handed off to singleton. He has room in front of him and will not be stopped touchdown 16 yards for Nicholas singleton the truth freshman and Penn State a commanding 20 point lead here in the third. Great play a little bit of a delayed draw here. You got pressure off the left side of that defense. So singleton sees it. The handoff delay allows all that pressure to wash down from that left side. And he just puts a foot in the ground. He's so quick and explosive. We talk about Ibrahim on Ibrahim on the other side as a cutback runner. Nicholas singleton just so sudden and once he gets to the open field, gone. And the extra point will make it 31 to ten Penn State in control at home beaver stadium, they lead by three touchdowns over Minnesota. This is college football Saturday night powered by the interference. What do we have to eat? Let's see. Peppers left over chicken, tomatoes, mayonnaise

"They both told me I should go to Easter West Coast and become successful. They were both very nice. And I stayed friends with both of them until their deaths. But I was on stage one night and I was doing jokes and I go, is that your dad? To a kid sitting with a guy. He goes, yeah, I go, it seems like a nice dad. Do you guys get along? He goes, yeah. And then that was the first time I did. Yeah, my dad never hit us either. But he carried a gun, and then I did that joke. Never shot us. He just got, you know? And that got the biggest laugh of anything I had ever done. And it got a different kind of laugh. Like, oh. And it opened something up in me. And I started mining my family stuff right then. I just started digging. And then I came off stage and a guy named Roman to care God rest his soul. He was a he was a shriner and he played a little harmonica. And he was told really silly jokes. He'd hit a bad note on the little tiny harmonica and then pull out of his hand a rubber pickle. Oh, that's a sour note. And then he did these really dumb, but we loved him. He was a very sweet guy. And I came off stage and he said, Louis, just talk like this. Louie, if you did that material about your family and you had a completely clean act, you'll become famous. And you know, I was listening to him, and I just said, really? You know, you know, I was looking for somebody to tell me something. I didn't know. I just wanted to be successful. And then in 1981, I moved out to Los Angeles and for two years, I auditioned for The Tonight Show and finally got it and you know with Howie and Robin and the Johnny Carson era. Yeah, this is the big time this is the HBO babies you know in comedy. All those guys we all did specials, you know? Jim Carrey and Sam Kennedy. Rita rudner, and they were all there, you know. And that's what kind of, you know, I wasn't like anyone else. And I never had to I never felt competitive. You know? I only had a few goals. I wanted my name on the comedy star. I wanted to get on The Tonight Show and I wanted to host my own talk show. Which is your podcast, I guess. No, I hosted the John river show for a week when she went Edgar. When Edgar died, so I felt like it. And then at the end of that week, I go, I could never do this, but actors and actresses are too boring. It really was at your conclusion. Yeah, I just said, oh, this would be so arduous. 'cause you know, I would sit there and they'd have nothing. You know, comedians, but I just said, oh. It just didn't like. I was no longer the thing I felt like I needed to do. Louis Anderson speaking with Terry gross in 2016, we'll hear more after a short break. This is fresh air. This new year, life kit wants to.

"I think chasms is a better. I mean, it doesn't really sound quite right. It has weird mouth feels a word, but casmus. I get jammed up with purposely because it sounds to my ear as if someone is saying that they mean the opposite they're saying without purpose, purpose, less anyway. Here we are. I'm a professional editor. It's fine. Last thing I wanted to mention, my friend and colleague from the ringer Zach cram tipped me off to The New York Times's quiz of like faces that their readers recognized from 2021. It's the do you recognize these notable people of 2021 quiz? And so it is various famous people who were the subjects of stories in 2021 for one reason or another. This was posted on December 16th. And so it has the results. So it's just a whole lot of public figures from various fields. And Shohei Ohtani is one of these faces and figures. Would you care to guess what percentage? Now this is just a times readers who voted in this poll. I mean, you don't necessarily need to be a subscriber. It's just anyone who saw this New York Times quiz, which you care to guess what percentage identified, shohei Otani from his head shot. This is going to bum me out, isn't it? Possibly. Can I ask a question? You can tell me if this gives too much away. What was the average rate of identification? Do we know? Don't know. I know that at the high end, I mean, you had Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Leading the way at 94%. And then at 2%, you had playwright, Jeremy O Harris, and 3% and actress from squid game. So it really runs the gamut. I don't know exactly what the average is. But there's a wide range that they use the whole scale. It's not like the scouting scale, where you have 80s or 20s. I'm gonna guess 36%. You overshot that. No. Multiple of three. Really? 12%. Recognized. Show how tiny. Yeah. Shohei, who I just saw. Is he in uniform? See, that's the thing. You can only see his head, but his head is sporting an angel's cap. So he's wearing a baseball cap, which you think would probably help. Baseball cap, baseball player, even if you don't know the angels insignia. You think that might be a clue, but it's tough. Just today before we started recording, I saw that when The Associated Press's male athlete of the year award, which was an award, I totally knew existed before today. But I think LeBron won it in 2020 and now show you a tiny one. So he's like, clearly a crossover figure. I mean, the fact that he's on this quiz at all, I guess is a bit of a victory for baseball because I would guess that in many years or most years notable baseball people as far as like The New York Times readership is concerned. I do think that this is probably a reflection of the voting pool here as much as it is of Otani. I mean, I don't know that the percentage in the general population would be dramatically different from this, but I would guess that in the general population you would not have say 5 times as many people recognizing Amy Coney Barrett as showing like I don't think I think that's probably has something to do with The New York Times readership and the people who are coming to the times for sports coverage as opposed to news and politics and such. So I'm going to guess that Amy Coney Barrett being at 63 in Ottawa being at 12 doesn't necessarily reflect the American population as a whole, but it is sort of depressing and that I want everyone to be aware of show hirotani and to be able to recognize him. But I'm going to chalk this up partly to the medium here. Yeah, I imagine that your average ESPN viewer probably has a better sense of Otani, right? Because he was just such a huge story in sports. And so while the times has a sports section, which is quite good, you know, if that's not what you're going there for, you know, if you're going for political news and to figure out how to make a galette, then you're perhaps not as in tune with the sport page. But yeah, I would imagine that if you're asking the general population and that population watches sports TV and some capacity, especially the panel shows that they would have a sense of who Otani is. And you wonder, you know, how do the other athletes do? Were there other athletes? So there were other athletes, the most recognizable according to this quiz Simone Biles was up at 79. And of course, you know, she was a big story, not just because of the Olympics and her performance there, but also her deciding not to perform in some events and the whole conversation. That sparked, then you had Aaron Rodgers at 42 and he also has other reasons maybe white people are aware of him. Not only is he a big NFL star, but he also guest hosted jeopardy and then became the subject of a whole COVID controversy as well. So you had that. And then Sunni Lee, the gymnast was at 20. So you had an NFL player and two gymnasts were the most recognizable. Now, here's I guess if you want to look at this from a baseball supporter perspective and be heartened. So I don't know whether this is encouraging or discouraging, but there was a three way tie at 12% or at least if you don't go out to other decimal places or Tony was at the top of the 12% heap tied in a virtual tie at least with Doja Cat and virtual app low. So wrapper slash singer and fashion designer who passed away this year. So I don't know if that helps you calibrate things. But then maybe somewhat surprising at 11%, so just below Otani is Yanis onto the and you might think, well, NBA MVP who won a championship and was the subject of a bestselling biography by one of my colleagues at the ringer would be more name recognition. And again, I don't know if there is something like xenophobic aspect to this, possibly, or not even like xenophobic, but just people being more aware of people who are from certain places or look certain ways, let us say. But it could also be market size. I mean, you have a Milwaukee Bucks star, maybe not as visible as on some big Easter West Coast team. With a tiny you could say, well, he wasn't in the playoffs and the angels weren't good. Obviously, with Yanis, you can't say that, but maybe you say small market, something like that or maybe he kind of broke out in a big way and hadn't been as huge a star for years and years and years. So still, though, you would think that generally NBA player like you always hear of the NBA to star driven league, whereas MLP is not. And so you would probably expect the big basketball start to be above the big baseball star, and so I guess, in a way, that is kind of encouraging, but also not really, because more people should know about both of those guys..

baseball The New York Times Amy Coney Barrett Otani Zach cram Shohei Ohtani shohei Otani Jeremy O Harris Shohei Kamala Harris Joe Biden Simone Biles The Associated Press LeBron angels

"You're listening to Bloomberg opinion on Bloomberg radio I'm June grosso The Biden administration is considering reopening the U.S. consulate in east Jerusalem which would serve Palestinians in the West Bank In his latest piece for Bloomberg opinion author and columnist zev shavitz says the move could lead to a clash in Washington He joins me now So explain what the U.S. consulate in east Jerusalem stands for The Jerusalem consulate was originally founded in 1824 to when there was no Easter west Jerusalem It was just the old city And its job was to look out for American interests with the most church interest in Jerusalem In 1949 the jordanians captured the eastern part of Jerusalem in the next few Jordan And the U.S. had an embassy in Jordan in Amman and had put a council at injury in 1967 after Israel conquered Jerusalem in subsequently the next day The conflict in east Jerusalem dealt with Palestinian affairs primarily and there was a conflict in Westeros and a U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv Under president Trump America moved the embassies and the council to Jerusalem And it closed the consulate in east Jerusalem That is to say el Jerusalem And that's the genesis of that council So President Biden has a different take than president Trump on this He wants to reopen the consulate in east Jerusalem What's been the reaction to that Well the reaction in Israel's official reaction is completely negative The Israel government wants to make it clear that Jerusalem is one dividable city and that it's the capital of Israel The American government thinks that I believe it thinks that Jerusalem could be part of the Palestinian state Ever is such a state And that's the disagreement The problem that I pointed to in my column is a political problem largely which is that Israelis understand that the Biden administration wants to undo as much of the Trump policies here as it can But on the other hand there's a wall to wall virtually a long wall support for keeping Jerusalem in letting any thing that might either be interfere with that happen which includes the confluence in east Jerusalem And therefore what I wrote in the column and what I believe is that whether it's a good idea or a bad idea on some higher level on the political it's impossible It knows where the government could possibly give back permission to account for the Palestinian oriented consulate in east Jerusalem And so it won't happen The U.S. needs the consent of Israel According to the State Department it does And certainly according to the Israeli it's a little more certified or assigned to the conflict in east Jerusalem The Senate as far as the Senate is concerned are both Republican senators and democratic senators of the same mind well they've been there was a letter of I think 200 or slightly more Republican Congress members asserting that those positions correct is correct I don't know about the Senate I assume that there will be a similar number of Republicans in the Senate and support Israel's position As far as Democrats are concerned it's interesting I don't know the answer to that There are certainly many Democrats in both the House and the Senate who I believe will have a very hard time trying to force Israel to accept a consulate that it doesn't want In its capital city But I don't have a vote count yet because it has a signature count because as far as I know that one hasn't taken place in the democratic House and Senate or for that matter in the Republican sense And so the prime minister of Israel is sort of counting on the fact that Joe Biden doesn't want to add this challenge to the many international challenges he already has Yeah I think that's fair to say We're putting in a different way The United States foreign policy now is confronting a lot of issues starting with China And the Russian buildup now on the Ukraine border The Iranian nuclear negotiations which seem to be solved And on and on It's a very big agenda of things which are truly American major American interests And I think that to the United States while they would like to have that consulate and while they would like to do some peacemaking if possible the Israel Palestine question it's quite far down on their agenda For Israel it's at the very top of the very top of its agenda And that's why I think there's a power disparity Surviving some nice thing to do And for better it's absolutely essential for premise to benefit Absolutely essential for his political survival and the survival of the government or in fact any future government in Israel So then there's no contest There's not going to be an east Jerusalem consulate I don't think so I mean the United States can certainly pressure Israel into doing many things because Israel is a client virtually acquired state of the United States in many ways And America's Israel's biggest friend and Israel is a recipient of a great deal of American support All of that is true And on most issues any Israeli government would be very attentive to the requests of the U.S. but on this particular issue on the issue of Jerusalem even Israeli prime minister were to want to do that He wouldn't be able to politically So it's sort of a more point whereas if Biden doesn't get his way on this I don't think that anything will happen politically There'll be some disappointed diplomats in the State Department I imagine but beyond that I don't think it's really a major issue for him Thanks uh That's a chauvet author and columnist for Bloomberg opinion Coming up on Bloomberg opinion is the world really safe from killer asteroids That's next on Bloomberg opinion On June grosso and this is Bloomberg But I know about streaming only on peacock Joining the first day of school and one of these four made up my last 5 and two detention I think he's breathing You.

"I kinda poked around. I found that in january twenty twenty an emirates. A three eighty actually made an emergency landing at bangor. Um that's a plane that departed from dubai but apparently passenger Somebody on board had a medical emergency and they had to get down for For those medical reasons so a three eighty actually landed landed there then. I also founded in two thousand nineteen. There was a united airlines plane flying from san francisco going to amsterdam and they had to make an emergency landing at bangor. They apparently had some kind of cabin pressure issue Yeah bangor is is going to be out for two days in early october to send a couple of weeks here. Presumably they make arrangements for you. Know other emergency landing. Destinations a rene. Did you ever have to make an emergency or an unplanned landing because of some issue One very early in my career happened. In the seven twenty-seven i had Most coming out of new york on my way to a west coast city and we took off in the runway. And i think it was Friendly four and the number one engine Disintegrated just caught on fire. So we come back around the pattern land but as far as an international flight crossing the pond. No haven't thankfully. But i'm interested. Max did Just by coincidence how many runways do they have it. Banker could question. i actually don't know. I'll remember one long one. I'll i'll let somebody look that up. But i was. That was one of the first towns. I ever lived in was bangor maine because my dad was a doctor in the air force and that was his first employment so my sister was born in bangor and That was the old dow air force base but The other big claim to fame for bangor is Stephen king the novelist lives in in bangers. You could just drive right down downtown past his house. And i was there for the first time since i was a toddler largest two years ago and it was fun to drive around town and see you see the sights and kind of see what mom and dad would have seen as they were driving around there. So why one thing was the the old Rotating beacon from the airforce base was pulled down. After the base was commissioned in that was in the little museum that i walked in i. It's kind of funny to think that you know mama. D- asked used to see that thing rotating around one would would back to the base housing there so it looks like one long runway at bangor. I'm curious so what. The faa has in store for us for that emergency in connection between either easter west or west to east if bangers going to be out for two days because you can't plan when the next emergency or you know the cabin pressure will let loose so yeah. That's interesting that it's going to be down for two days. Eleven thousand four hundred forty feet or maybe if we buy greenland we can just use that as the backup really. I thought we were beyond that. I know that was a long time ago already again. We're speaking with rene o'shaughnessy reneging thanks for coming on the show. We had kind of a long new segment there. So it's about time. We focused in on your activities. So this issue of pilot mental wellness mental health mental wellbeing. It's a somewhat touchy subjects. Sometimes because well i'll let you explain why why Why do we not talk about it enough. Very good. Question or comment Let's be honest pilot. Mental health is not a popular subject to talk about. And it's It it has a long history back from world war two and the perception is that pilots have the right stuff. But i think it's really interesting in and i talk about this in the book that you know. We used the word gut health. No one thinks twice about a we talk about skin health. No one thinks twice about it but the word mental health when the two were put together right away gives off this stigma and as far as the aviation is concerned No one wants to think no pilot wants to think that they don't have the right stuff so mental health Well let's just face it you know. There's two hundred sixty four million people that are suffering from depression in the united states and according to the world health organization half of those with depression around the world seek treatment Pilots are no different than the general population and for the past few years between nineteen. I'm sorry twenty. Sixteen in twenty twenty one pilot. Mental health is finally getting the attention that it deserves in a. We've had harvard study And we've had a steady come out of georgetown and all these studies point to mental health In the aviation community that no one's talking about and the reason no one's talking about it because quite frankly would scare the hell out of the public and number two. They really don't know what to do about it. Because we all know we have to take this physical every six months says as a captain and you go down through this questionnaire nephew. Check off any of the above anxiety stress. Depression asthma. That's your livelihood that you're seeing going down the drain. So what pilots do. They have this version from talking about mental health or physical health. So they either self medicate and they don't medicate at all or and they go underground so that's why people don't talk about mental health. I believe it's because it's stigma why we don't talk about it in the aviation community because it could mean our livelihood commercial pilot's experience a lot of stress right if you look at some of the rankings of you know what are the most stressful positions pilots are way up. There aren't they. Yes a matter of fact In surveys that. I talk about in the book. Pilots rank up to about number three between two and three of the highly stressed high performances. Crow careers that are out there and You know here. When i give my talks i i usually use a container pilots are great compartmentalized. But no one's talking about when the compartment overflows and we're no different than any other. You know human being you know. We have financial problems we have divorces. We have not kids. We have teenage kids. We have elderly parents. You know we have insomnia. We have alcohol use and abuse. You know let's just goes on and on and on The differences we can't talk freely about seeking treatments like other people can other professions. And that has that has to change. You know what to. i mean. We can't forget that. In general the world does not treat well at least in. The united states does not treat mental health with any kind of reverence. I mean You know the the guys no. I didn't mention when my wife says shrink and and the things that that she comes home with that people obviously outside of aviation have just as much trouble talking about their problems. Not not just in the therapy sets but when people are significantly depressed but also the fact that state governments all over the country for decades now have been have been cutting funding for public mental health issues. And we see these people that are you know. We questioned boy. That guy's really strange. That woman is very odd across the street to walking in front of the cars. And what is she doing out her because they have no place to go and it happens all too often or that. They can't get their medications because they kind of fall through the cracks. And it's a shame but of course wurley talking about pilots right now but i mean think about that max. I mean we're someplace having lunch or something with a bunch of pilots. The last thing anybody would wanna hear is hey. When was the last time you saw shrink. I i can say well you know this morning. You're married to. But i probably only one. That has a good excuse because people might not say anything but they think oh my god. What is this problem. maybe we just switched to. How's the weather or a because people also don't recipients of this kind of information don't know what to do with it because we put these people in a corner in practically every walk of life. So i again i i applaud you for for starting this whole thing because You touched on something that i've written about before that it's bad enough when you suffer from any of these mental illnesses. Don't you guys look at me. don't be eyeball on me. I see you looking at me. Because i'm not paranoid i'm not no but You bring up a really good point. Rob you know we see the homeless and you know not to get political but back in the reagan administration. They cut all funding to mental hospitals. And where these people going to go but specifically swinging back to aviation you know even before vid anxiety. Depression were estimated to cost the global economy over one trillion dollars every year in lost productivity and with global awareness market folk Forecasting to reach sixty six billion by two thousand twenty two. It's clear that organizations in airlines may be spending money on reactive programs rather than preventive education..

"Did it concerns me. Listen when we got together as a team roster this year. But i was also text with a friend. Jason bonetti It was his birthday over the On a thursday wanna it was his birthday then was whatever. It was happy birthday jason but any front of the show friend of mine friend in our hearts absolutely and he's turned on the airwaves to review broadcaster. We wish him luck. Speaking of sports met you on the last episode you were discussing possibly going to see a soccer game live for the first time since the pandemic no no. I went to one game in june. Yeah when it seems like things were so there was talk of you possibly going over the weekend. Yes how did that play out. I went did i did yes wonderful. How did you win. Did win in the probably the least heroic fashion possible which is We the winning goal was an own goal and it was the kind of own goal where sometimes in soccer a defender will like. You know the ball's coming into the box. And they like try they're trying to clear it and it goes off their head the wrong way and it goes on the goal and it's like that happens. It sucks but it happened at the goal from this week's Ted louca yeah. So this was a an unpressured centre-back trying to pass the ball to his own goalkeeper. And he passed it to his goalkeepers right his goalkeeper happened to be leaning all the other direction and just rippled into the is like the saddest was like it was a slow motion but the of course what. What was the final score. Three two to three. It was exciting to win. It was an exciting game. The first goal happened twenty seconds into the game okay. L. afc scored. It was the fastest goal and l. afc team history. The team's only four years old. But it's still very fast. Twenty seconds is a very fast the goal so that was super exciting. We were at the at the end that happened at is like the guys are sitting in the end zone. My lack of a better. Yeah my friends. Tickets are in right behind one of the goals. The south goal so it was like there. Would you rather be like on the fifty yard line. i. I don't know how you when we talk about the pitch what we're yeah that the The i don't really either say. I don't know the name of that. Centre line is just the middle of the field to me. But i do like being on the sides to to seriously equals. But it's you see some things that in the end that you never see it which gets of fun to see from that vantage point too. So i i don't really care being there as you this a night game correct. Yep so this wouldn't play into where you're sitting on the easter's west side of the stadium. South south stadium goes that way. Yeah the the ends are the north and south boy. Why am i mentioning that stadium differently than That's where i saw iron maiden And i want us at boy. I wanted to say a. We sat on the side. Which would have been the south. But maybe i got turned around as i walk into the stadium. Maybe either about mine. Nobody's ever kicking into the sun No not if they're kicking north south like ford or back your goals. If you're aiming for a goal you would never be seeking wrestling correct. And that's probably why they position. I would imagine yep Did you for some follow. Ups a guy who's been a couple of baseball and If you outdoor concerts was now these are soccer fans though you guys are known to be dumb were you very. Did you feel safe. Yeah it's crowded it was very crowded was Everyone has to wear a mask Everywhere except like once. You're at your seat. I think is seems to be the rule. Like when you're in the concourse you have to have mask on. I think we've been talking about this for ten check. Let's talk about the science of that If i'm walking from my seat to the bathroom and they want me to wear my mask But if i'm in my seat They i don't necessarily innuendo because concourses may be covered. Yeah thanks for your time. And it's you've been there. It's it's i don't like those those concourses not really enough or poorly made. Yeah really designed. It was almost like they were like. Wow it soccer. this is never going to be full. And then immediately full their own shit. There's more people here and like it's not enough room for especially because soccer is forty five minutes of continuous action than it stops for fifteen minutes. Was that right so every single person is in there when the games on every single person goes to the bathroom and to get food at the exact same time. It's not nearly enough room disaster for that reason. Yeah i mean what you're supposed to do about it like it's it's obviously valuable real estate if you push out and make it bigger. That's causes. Logistical problems for the people designing it yet but other stadiums managed to do it for in the middle of nowhere. But if you're in the middle of major city it's kinda hard dictated by most of these teams are in the suburbs. Some seven percent But even the staple center. There's the courses seem wider there. Yeah they do. That's true and is your stadium even which has been around for ages. they even seems wider. Those seem like a very narrow. We'll dodger stadium is multi level. That's the other thing there isn't there's only one level in in the bank of california is. Yeah so there's no like you're not dispersing the crowd vertically then you climb up here seats that the purpose either go you go out and either go up or down. Okay yeah I was level. When i saw your maiden i was level. Yeah i mean if it depending on so we were to the where these guys were. The seats are you. Don't you go out and you're just there. You don't have to go up these guys. A friend of mine from school from Charlie school he p played. Charlie played soccer with his son a couple years ago and we became friends and then another friend of ours is was the guy who was the co. He also has a son. That agent was the coach of that team. So the three of us and in that first guys brother-in-law has these season tickets and so he gets to use them quite a bit and I've been the beneficiary on. Multiple occasions has been fantastic. You drive together with these fellows. You meet their. How's it work you train to no i i. I don't know how. I don't know the train seems like a bad idea in this in this pandemic why shaper yogi. I was gonna say. I love to take the train before number one way or you're paying for parking. Well he his season tickets. Come with the park with them. I drove with the other guy. He met us. There doesn't matter he. Yes you drove with the guy you don't know he drove me. No no no. There's only one guy knows uber. The the guy who was charlie's coach and i drove together. He and then we met the guy who you don't know who don't know and our other friend who's brother in law that is they had. They came together if you went. You enjoyed yourself in short we agree you can't play soccer without. Aco didn't you say uso eight yes. Show yeah yeah so is that a is that a slogan of theirs. I i didn't. I've never heard billy l. a. y. Socar oh yeah..

"Having a little too much fun today, thanks to Gary Player who joined us last hour way live on crap and shamed Byron Metcalf out of the room, but he's back in here now. Great to have you. You okay, Myron after that from Gary? I mean, he didn't say anything. My mom didn't say to me last week. Could be that. You know, I'm getting there said you need to watch your weight s so appreciate you. Only the bomb still being here Sunday morning on ESPN radio as we get set for the PGA Championship Final round, with Phil teeing off later on today. Also later on today. LeBron James and the Lakers Open up their playoff series with the Phoenix Suns. Let's welcome in Mark Spear, senior MBA writer for the undefeated Joining us here on the Goodyear Hotline brought to you by Good year helping you discover the road ahead. Goodyear. Maura driven Mark before we get to the syriza itself. And thanks for being with us. What did you make of what happened with LeBron? Or maybe more specifically, what didn't happen with LeBron? This week when he reportedly was found in breach of the embassy, health and safety protocols. He didn't do that. All right. Reading from the book a minute. I'm Sorry. Go ahead. Does it not being facetious? I'm like you couldn't do that. You didn't do that. I didn't do anything wrong, Sam. Oh, nothing wrong, right? No, this. This isn't playing with you. I guess you guys want a real answer. No. I mean, I've had it before. We're marked like you say things and I'm like, Oh, God. Did I get it wrong? And so I just wait and I just let you go. Uh, the You know, uh Come on, man there goes to spend now. You got the band here. Kill somebody. I'm sorry. Some people get different rules, right? Is that a bad looking all over for the league? T o Let him not man. Shoot me. We need our jobs. Let me see him being right suit. Little Blake. Yeah. Mark, Where are you right now? We're working right now. What are you doing? Like you feel very loose. You feel like Ready for the MBA. Wouldn't uh I don't know. I just Uh, we think that he doesn't have Ah, like that. They're gonna suspend him. Just you were fools, right? Know I'm at a golf course with my nephews Act and where Not golf in it. Just have good breakfast here. And I will. I rode my bike this morning. I'm telling All right. I don't I hope we're not interrupting Mark like I feel bad Now I feel bad. Your little baby that you know why they didn't little abroad Plaid. LeBron James. It is that simple. He's nothing is going to happen to Ah, LeBron except he's going to take the floor later on today, Um How would you I guess characterized the path that is in front of them, knowing the seed that they have, but knowing if Choc holds, this will be probably one of the toughest challenges that any MBA team has had to face if they get the distance. Well, this is business only the toughest challenge of LeBron. Playoff career. He's never had less than a four seed, which that's been the case three times. But the Bee's 70 is particularly difficult because you know, they've I'm gonna be the underdog in tow. And well, I guess in theory, but they're going to start on the road. Everywhere they go. They do not have home court advantage. Um So that's new. Obviously, this is a different day right now where you know we're not talking about packed houses because of Cove it But there's this is certainly different than the path he had a year ago when he played A year ago, They got injured Damon Lillard and C. J. McCollum in the first round in the second round. He had a injured Russell Westbrook and in the third round, they, you know, got a young Denver Nuggets team and then in the finals, they got a shocking Miami team, so they avoided Milwaukee, They avoided the Clippers. They avoided to run on everybody in Boston. That's not their fault that they avoided who they avoided. Um, but it is what it is right? So, but this time that they haven't been as fortunate, obviously a bronze injuries and Anthony Davis injuries have been Really, um, itself on this franchise and Um, from what I saw the other day, guys, I mean, it seems like LeBron was playing on one leg. And I don't know where he's going to get the rest. You know you could tell the ankle was bad. He was deferring the Schroeder and in terms of allowing Schroeder play point, so I think it really, but who's them? To have Anthony Davis, who's had success against the Sun's basically take this team on the solar than is difficulties. It will be trying to get this series over as soon as possible. So the bronchi get some rest. Mar. Boston has some good good stretches. But when Katie and Kyrie and James Harden decided to take over, it was clear they were in a different league. How many teams Easter West? Could actually give the Nets a series. Do you think Um if the Nets are completely healthy, they're claiming across. I don't think there's any team on their level. It kind of reminds me of the lawyers when they had staff and playing a kg together. They're just Extremely e mean talented from scoring standpoint and then their death is better, and they get credit for Um, you know, Joe Harris is outside threat that, um You have to keep in mind and the right Blake Griffin's not to break Griffin old but he's still somebody that you've got to pay attention to so that they could stay healthy. I don't see anybody stopping them. Marc Spears joining us We're going to see the Knicks later on taking on the Hawks. Nate McMillan was 5 25 grand for saying the MBA wants the Knicks needs the Knicks to be in the playoffs. What did you make of? The crime and punishment. Who was a lot of dough? That's what I said. No, it's cool. I'm enjoying them being in there. If anything, I think the embassy tried kicking themselves now for not having the warriors in the playoffs. Um, you know, with all due respect to the Memphis Grizzlies, who earned it, I mean, you had an opportunity. You basically put the Lakers and the Warriors the two most popular schemes in the lead in a position where they could have been eliminated and one of them, Woz. I mean, think about it. If stuff in would have finished out the game the other day, and they beat the Lakers the way the Lakers been playing right now. It's certainly possible that They could have lost in Memphis and So you know, I know everybody's in love with the play in and Silver says that he wants it back. But there's something that you have to evaluate that there is a process that these that one of your marquee teams could get eliminated and you gotta live with that. And that's what happened Instead, I know we got great ratings. I'm sure for ESPN. The Warriors Games on Wednesday and on Friday, right Lakers of Memphis games with them. Now you lose the Warriors for a whole series. I know I'm no Memphis people don't care. In terms of watching the game of basketball warriors. Lakers Knicks I mean the necks of the most valuable franchise an MBA so Yeah, it is best for the league when the best teams were there, and Um as the greatest the nets are. I still think people in New York care more about the Knicks and the Nets. Marc Spears from the undefeated mark. Thanks so much for taking time out today we pass the time and I'm sorry about the first answer of it started you or anything..

"Yeah, I agree. The last thing I wanted to ask you, Pete to kind of re visit the North Division. How do you believe whoever comes out of that division ultimately will be at a disadvantage when they get to the semifinal when they're forced to play it, a West Division team based on I think some of the cupcakes at the bottom of that of that Canadian division that they played all year like. Do you think the lack of top tier teams in the North Division especially Over the course of the season will come back to haunt them when they are forced to face a Vegas or Colorado in the semifinal. Yeah, well, it's going to come down to the regular season points for how they received the final Four. Um, last I heard, so it's like Whether they're playing any of these teams. Easter West Traditionally, I mean, let's see your face off against Carolina, you failed face off against Colorado or Vegas or one of those You know, strong teams in the East. That is championship caliber, no matter which way you slice it. You're either getting Crosby Ovechkin posture knock and the bad Bruins. Are you getting Barry Trotz and Strong back end of the island or so like they will definitely have a rude awakening. I think as much is like this could be the breakthrough year for Toronto or McDavid's. Do you think that it will eventually come to an end for a team in that North Division? Because it has been the most favorable in my opinion, and statistically as well like defensively has been so much offense, but You know, definitely a cause for concern. The deeper that Canadian teams go this year, so they'll be out the end that long Stanley Cup drought, but I think it's just going to get Really, really tough once they get to the final Four. All right, Well, I'm obligated to ask you, Pete. Who do you like? Who do you think ends up winning the Stanley Cup this year on baby? It's just based on who you believe the road will be for them. Or maybe you just think Colorado's too good and they're the team. I don't know. Give me your prediction and why you think they're the ultimately the team that's going to take it home. So, yeah, the beginning of the season. I had Colorado over Carolina, and I'm sticking to that Colorado with Nathan MacKinnon and Nico Ransom in two of the elite players for a few years now. Nathan McKinnon. Actually, a lot of people probably don't know because everybody's caught up in McDavid's fever. But McKinnon has the fourth best. Career playoff points per game average in history. It's like Gretzky, Lemieux, someone else and McKinnon. So anyway, that's the incredible stat and with Colorado the past two seasons, they made Game seven of the second round couldn't quite breakthrough. One year against the Sharks. They got like a questionable call to go against them last year, lost the tight game in overtime in Game seven against Dallas so and they had a ton of injuries. They were on their third string goalie, so If they're healthy. I think they'll break through in the second round against Vegas this year, and then I think that their defense they hold other teams to 25 shots a game best in the league, so And they got great, great supporting cast great resiliency. They always step up there. One of those teams that steps up when guys air out of the lineup from injuries or covert protocol, whatever it's been this year. Philipp Grubauer is having a career year and in contract here, so just so much to like about Colorado, but they have to be healthy. So that's always a big question. But when you start to nit pick like that, you know you're dealing with one of the church drug or not, so the lead, you know Absolutely, man, Tate Pete. Appreciate you, man. Thank you for the insight. "It's hard to predict that, but I think the sun ceiling personally with Chris Paul, there is as high as a top four team in the Western Conference, which I know is a very big statement. Am I crazy person? Or are you seeing what I'm seeing with the easel? It's Devin Booker could get some buckets, Maybe DeAndre and on the pick and roll. I'm not gonna go through the whole team, but I just really like Phoenix with CP three. I love Phoenix with CP three. Now can they cracked the top for you Think about the top four to you get past the Lakers and the Clippers. Okay. Kim Portland Ascend to that We have questions on Denver. Denver lost a lot with Plumlee being going Torrey Craig Grant being gone, Okay, not just offense. I think defensively, it kind of changed the dynamic to a team that has struggled at times. Offensively. Just Dallas. Take that next step with Kristaps coming back. We don't know where New Orleans is that so it's open for Phoenix that they can stay healthy and growth now how quickly can the youth Which they have a lot of Be able to mature to understand what it means to win and what it means to win on a nightly basis. In this league. They had the success in the bubble. Now you have the transfer that You know to, uh, you know, not a full 7% in two games with CP three with money, Williams. I do think they have an opportunity. If they don't crack the top four, they can be somewhere between four and six. Easily. I think If if they stay healthy. I don't think you have. You know the questions you have about Phoenix? Is you more than anything else? Um, I love the fit. I did, too. I love the fit. I did, too. I mean, look, human beings are complicated creatures, right? You can you can be what you are, and it doesn't work, and it's not likable or whatever it is one place and it's different. Another place, Right. Let's take relationships, man. I mean, you get I'm the same guy and I promise you they're different Women around America who have different views on me based on just what that it was like before I was married, right? So I love their ceiling. Another team that I'm high on. And I know that being top six in the Eastern Conference is a big ask. And so part of what I'm about to give you Jim Jackson, here on the gym room show is predicated on just feels like I know a lot of GM's think. There are gonna be teams that should be in the top five or six in the Easter West. That won't because injuries they're gonna happen because of this very bizarre schedule. So take that into account. I love Atlanta, but I love Trey Young. I think they're gonna make a big step defensively. I love the pieces that the GM Travis shrank brought in. Maybe I'm buying into much the league passed last year, plus some of these veterans I love the Hawks, and I think if everything gets the right way, I think they can avoid that plane situation. I think their playoff team am I getting too excited too soon about about Trey Young and that group in Atlanta? No, I mean, because if you look at the start that they've been able to have this car Get the big question was, you know that three and one right now trails all to announce standing start in regards to put the ball in the basket, but it goes back to this. The attrition over this season with the young team who's your core leader? That's kind of been there, done that in regards to winning at a high level. Okay, when you need to dig a little bit deeper, What can you tap into? Who can you top into the core group in regards to Talent is there but you know, in this league to is much more than just talent. That wins game is continuity in his experience. And anyway, where you gain it is kind of go through the garden, so to speak, you know, and Putting themselves in a great position right now with the youth that they have to do that. My only question is Is that enough in a 72 slate? Should be able to get them. I think I do believe that they can get In the Eastern Conference. Are there going to be better dinner in Orlando? You You know what I mean team that was in eighth place last year. I think they have the opportunity to be But still you want to play for that sick steed and lower You don't want to be seven. Now you don't get rewarded for being seven. You gotta end up planting to play a game begins the gypsy. You know what I mean? That's now again for Atlanta, that shooting kind of high and regards to where they're at. They'll take the eight that they get it. But for a team like that I was you know, if they make that leap, you do want to be in the top six to me. They had potential is if you can the youth grow to that. You know what Rondo being there? That helps think about Donovan. But he hasn't won on the high level. You see them, saying Hamas. Do you rely on Rondo? Can he be the Chris Paul for Atlanta? Mean just his leadership, Right? Just your what He's about in terms of how you carry yourself as a pro in a winner, I think is significant in Atlanta what he's grown to think about security issues he had at Boston. Okay, so where he's at now in his career. So you know, to your point. He could be that like I said that, Chris Paul what? Chris Paul didn't okay. See? Okay. We didn't expect a lot of okay, see because of the move that were made, but because of his influence because of Billy Donovan. Boy. Pierce is in a great situation. Now He has the ears of his team along with the veterans that has been there and they're going to listen to that. He can lean on. You want a championship in both? He's won one in l A. You know what I mean? He's been the multiple deep runs in the playoffs. That's something that hopefully transferred in these young guys. When things start when things are going good, everybody kind loving and you win it when things start to go the other way. That's where you need a Rondo to kind of level it back off and get the ship. Go back on the right path. Jim Jackson here on the show. I'm with you. I'm so high up on Boston. I think Drew.

Atlanta Chris Paul Phoenix Jim Jackson Trey Young Denver Boston Rondo Devin Booker GM Lakers Kim Portland Torrey Craig Grant DeAndre Clippers Billy Donovan Donovan Plumlee Kristaps
