We'll have the latest on tropical storm. The city is and how it may affect our region over the next 24 hours, But first we're dealing with severe weather right now. Let's go live to Matt Ritter at Storm team format. What do you see? And where's it all heading? Okay, Shawn. We still have the severe thunderstorm warning in effect for the extreme northern parts of Orange County and lots of Madison County and most of Culpeper County. Is really bearing down on Culpepper itself right now Moving to the north. That warning may have to be extended north into northern Culpeper County in parts of Rappahannock County in the next few minutes or so. What's left of that really intense rain band that was moving up from the southern suburbs now moving into the heart of the listening area, not as strong as was earlier but still some blinding rainfall now starting to move into parts of Prince William County in Fairfax County and over the Beltway, and we'll see a lot of this activity continued for the next couple of hours. This is way out in advance of the actual tropical storm that will be affecting us tomorrow. Ah, lot of tomorrow. Starting during the morning commute into the early afternoon will be dealing with some periods of some very intense rainfall and possibly some damaging winds and some flash flooding. All those details coming up the next weather on the H on alright Matt Richard Storm team for Let's talk more about Tropical Storm East Zaius Has Matt mentioned tomorrow, particularly we will be affected as the storm moves up the eastern East Coast. Let's get the very latest now. Jim Lee at the National Weather Service, Jim, Thanks for being with us appreciate it. Good to be with you. Ah, first give us a timeline here. Where do we see the storm Right now? What's our latest estimate on one? It may arrive here in the D C region. So right now, The storm is south of Charleston, South Carolina. It's moving to the north, and we're looking for landfall to be near the North Carolina South Carolina border sometime later this evening. As it continues up its northward track. We're going to start seeing issues in the Washington metro area as early as first thing tomorrow morning at daybreak. And how strong is that storm expected to be by the time it would reach the D C region. So the whole works in D C region right now is in a tropical storm warning and what that means is that we're expecting Of the rain to begin along with windy weather starting tomorrow morning at dawn time, and it's going to increase in intensity throughout the morning hours. And really, he hit a peak in the early afternoon to mid afternoon timeframe. So you know your listeners. What When they get up, it's it's going to schooI League out there is going to rain showers, but it's going to be worse as the day moves on tomorrow. We're expecting wind us up to 50 miles per hour. When are few. The rain amounts 3 to 6 inches with maybe some spotty eight inch amounts in the area. And because of that, we have issued a flash flood Watch for the entire D. C. Metro area through tomorrow evening. And then the winds are going to be expected. This these are going to be squalls. In other words, heavier showers and thunderstorms going to bring down higher wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. So the combination of the soggy soils as well as these wind gusts of 50 miles per hour, there's going to be hazardous weather tomorrow, not only from the flash flooding than I already mentioned, but also about trees getting blown down branches getting blown down. If you have an opportunity, you can probably time to hunker down tomorrow afternoon in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. In addition to that, with the flooding that flooding could continue into the night on on Tuesday, so just because you know it stops raining. That doesn't mean that the floods are going to stop immediately. We're expecting flooding to continue through Tuesday night in the DC Metro area, in addition to the flash flooding that we could see Tomorrow afternoon or likely see tomorrow afternoon as well as the high winds. All right, Jim. Thank you. So much for joining us. Appreciate the update. Very good, because I could be with you, Sean. All right. Thank you so much. That's Jim Lee from the National Weather Service. You want to stay here on double d t. O p all through the next 24 hours or so, as we monitor the effects of tropical storm ideas, which is as Jim Lee just mentioned about 100 miles or so off the coast, South Carolina coast around Charleston and expected to hit landfall sometime late tonight, maybe the early morning hours around the North Carolina South Carolina line.
