"Com really sunny might drive in from the Western burbs. And now the clouds have taken over, but they were lifting. We've got a beautiful weekend ahead of us. Good morning. I'm Lisa Dent in for John Williams. He'll be back tomorrow, which I said to his producer. Well, that's kind of odd. He should have taken tomorrow off, and then he could have had a series of days off. But you know, I'm a fan, so I'll be glad to hear him tomorrow. I came in today and sun was shining. They were power washing the sidewalks at Maggie Daley Park. And then I was pulling into the parking garage at 303 East Wacker. There was a lot of commotion so much so that I didn't think I was going to get into the garage. So there were police vehicles their were vans. There were garbage trucks and you know, usually when they have garbage trucks in Chicago, it means they're trying to prevent anybody from stopping something. The garbage trucks were actually in use. And Dave in its in the studio. Dave, do you come in that parking garage and lower Wacker down there? I do. Well, I come by it. I don't park in there. Okay, so homeless people, or should I say people without a home have been continually Camping there. I mean, there's tents, and there's some elaborate setups. Is that fairly new or has that been going on? Because I was here in May and I didn't really notice too much on the Randolph side or the whackers side. It's the Randolph side. Yeah, I, um Yeah, they they've been there, right? No, no. You've been there for a while. Okay, well, today, they're all getting evicted. So that's what was going on. You know, I was in great spirits, and I'll just be honest. I've got a soft heart and so Having read a lot about people without homes, you know that mental health is a big factor. And they say that 22 to 48% of people without a home in Chicago have suffered a traumatic brain injury close to 50% of women without a home have cited domestic violence, says the reason why they're homeless. But mental health is definitely a factor. So they woke these people up. I was watching as they were kind of shaking tents and they were taking their stuff and Putting it in the garbage truck. Now, I'm sure there are mental health experts down there. I would hope Chicago PD was put in charge of this task, which I'm like. You don't want to have to come to work. Put your uniform Monaco shake some homeless people awake and say you've got to move today, so I'm not sure how much time they were giving them or where they're telling them to go. But It's obvious they are cleaning them out of that area. Yeah, yeah, And so it's kind of intriguing. It's like okay, what's going on? Maybe Fourth of July weekend. Lots of tourists. I remember when we put a bid in for the Olympics years back. Remember how they cleaned up every homeless encampment in Chicago. I mean, overnight they were bringing in the You know the bigwigs to try and woo them to give us the Olympics, and they just They cleaned everybody out, and then they put up big fencing so they couldn't come back. So it'll be interesting. When I leave today as to what I see. They're not the only people being evicted. Of course evictions have resumed in Illinois, and that is for tenants who have been protected. You know, because of Covid. But you know, on the other side, the moratorium on evictions has impacted landlords who depend on rent his income. I mean, if you have 11 place that you rent out in Chicago, and you can't get anyone to pay rent. You're in a tough spot to. In fact, there's a woman Rose are via. She owns one property, and, she said, We're paying two mortgages, borrowing money from family Using money we save for our kid's college fund. We basically used all of our savings that we've worked all of our lives to get. And they have one condo in the West Loop and their tenant has not paid since 2019. And an eviction order was was, you know, issued just as a pandemic began, and then they put a moratorium on evictions, but that is being lifted. So a lot of action and movement in the city today and Walter Jacobson is with us. He's going to offer his perspective this morning. Coming up on W G. N Double. High atop next our radio city where the banks of the Chicago River meets the lakefront. Is three whole three East Wacker Drive three or three East Wacker Drive, Chicago six or 601, I think, Okay, that's it. It's 10 minutes. Before eight o'clock, So this is a bad time Andy for the Milwaukee Brewers to be hot, They've won five minute roll, right? Yeah, they were playing Colorado and they were playing Arizona. So I mean, there's some reasoning behind it, and the schedule for the Cubs is June has been brutal with some of the pitching that they've seen. But yeah, they ran into the buzzsaw last night with Clayton Kershaw. Shutting them down, basically, and now they're three games behind the Brewers heading into this three game series in Milwaukee. So you really can't afford to get too much further behind here. I mean, I know it's a long season. Still, we're only talking about July, but you you want to get some momentum back. Bad time for Rizzo to have a bad back, huh? Yeah, he came out of the game. And you wonder if it was the back or just the fact that you know David Ross was kind of Giving some of the regulars a little bit of arrest yesterday because at one point it was six. Nothing. It felt like 100. Nothing because it was just mowing everybody down. Um so hopefully he'll be okay. Well, we'll find out later today if he's in the lineup tonight, but, uh, yeah. You really can't afford to lose anybody to be honest with you. And how long is a braille going to be out? Do we know yet? No, no, no indication yet, But you know, it had to be a rather painful situation for a guy like Jose ready to leave a game. You have to fight him, and he's a big dude to try to get him out of a lineup, and it certainly didn't look good from where it hit him. But he was able to walk off with a little help and Hopefully, it's a they say day today, you know, that's the kind of a cliche that we, you know, we all go by, uh, but we'll see if he's in the lineup player today when they take on the twins. Yeah, he was hitting the knee by a pitch and I don't want to see that replay anymore. So it hurts to look at. Yeah, that's that's enough. And I have a question about this business of, uh, examining pictures for sticky stuff. Yes. Are they supposed to do that after the first inning? You know, there's a lot of, uh, There's a lot of great between this In this new memo. It looks as though it seems to be the first the third of the fifth. Has won. These guys are getting checked. Now again. A manager can ask for someone to be checked during the game in the middle of an inning. We saw that with Joe Girardi and Max Scherzer the other night in Philadelphia. Now the Santiago situation happened in the middle of an inning. That's because he was being replaced out of pitching change, and when he came off, that's when they examined the glove and determined that there was a A sticky substance that have developed on the inside of his glove where he puts his palm and he says, it's rosin combined with the sweat of the day. It was a very human day, but apparently you're not allowed. I didn't even know this rule. You know, there's a rosin bag at the back of the mound for everybody. So it's not like that's an illegal substance. But you're not allowed to put it on your glove hand, apparently because he was he was batting on the back of his palm or the back of his hand on both sides. And when he put his hand in the glove, he said that the sweat And the rosin combination form that sticky substance. But I guess you're not allowed to have the substance a math glove hand, which makes no sense to me. I heard this Sunday night baseball guys talking about this last night in this. This will be interesting going forward, especially as you get towards the trading deadline. Is this going to really affect pitchers and how? How good they are. And are you going to start seeing More high scoring games. Yeah, it's a possibility. You know they they interviewed Trevor Bauer during the game last night. It was really interesting to hear his point of view on this whole thing, because, he said that you know, basically with the with the sticky stuff will allow some pictures to do is to be able to Hold the ball a little bit longer, and you're actually being able to put more torque on it because you're on top of it, and you're in your momentum. Mistake you get down creates a little more movement. So he's saying that you know the stuff some of the stuff they need to use because they need to be able to grip the ball. I mean, that's that's part of what we were talking about earlier. But there are some guys that use it to the extreme where certain substances will allow you to hold the ball a little bit better and got to hold it as tight and that way you're not, you know, shorting your pitches or bury him in the in the dirt. It's an ugly thing right now for baseball because it's happening in the middle of a season a season. Everybody's excited about because it's getting back to somewhat normal. It's 100 and 62 games. You see fans in the stands and and now this Which, of course, was talked about in spring training. But didn't didn't get enforced until a week ago. It was the whole idea here, Uh, the the games were being dominated by pitchers. Pitchers. Yeah, I mean, that was with that. It's somebody was sitting in a dark room in New York and Major League baseball's front offices and said, Hey, you know what? We're having too many to one games. So let's take Let's try to give the advantage back to the hitters. You know what I have turned into my father who loved watching these pictures. Do all this as we used to call him one and nothing 2 to 1. And you know, as kids, you just want to see a good 15 to 14 home run battle, but the close games with strategy I mean, you know you can't beat that. Really. If you're a student of the game like we are, of course, so right now it's it's as Trevor Bauer said last night. It's It's one of the three true outcomes. Now it's either Strikeout, walk her home run. And, you know, Okay if you like the it's like the home run, Great, but I'd rather see a game that didn't have all those walks. Yeah. Are we going to get back to, uh, bunting and stealing bases that I don't? I doubt there's so many people out there that have such an issue with bunting. It drives me it's It's absolutely hilarious to watch this on Twitter. If somebody bunts Oh, my goodness Gracious. The world has come to an end. You know it's a bunch big deal. You know the solution is there. Andy, Stop, stop our media and a shame on me. We'll get all the news for you here at eight o'clock from the northwestern medicine newsroom and we'll.

"Instead of covering up, But we probably will come a little bit at a cost. We're looking at some better chances for some rain and maybe some thunderstorms over the weekend, but it's not gonna be the nonstop stuff. It'll probably more the scattered hit in this thing. You know, it's funny. You bring that up because I live north of the city in the north suburbs. My parents air about an hour south. I was talking to my mom on Mother's Day, and she's like, you know, I said we did not literally. Our payment was not even dappled with rain, and she said they had a couple of inches down there. I was exactly going. The next thing I was gonna talk about it just a sharp sharp line between where they got 34 inches of rain on the South side, and then hardly a spring. Call in the North side. It just goes to show you that you know, the exact track of some of these systems can just make all the difference in the world. But it was a pretty amazing thing. Not to mention it brought a little bit of snow fall with it, too. So Fascinating system with that one. But it made a big difference. And, you know, parts of Chicago are just in the very beginning Stages of the drop category, but at least on the South and the rain may have likely taken that away the northside everywhere from 88 northward. May have still be in those really dry conditions in the drop categories move into Thursday with that update, but you're looking at we conducted in the draught conditions on Thursday. That's right and the rain that's coming in. Will that be more widespread to the north as well or too soon to know, I think it's all too soon to know, but it'll at least be scattered where you know, everyone will have a better shot at getting it more than this system That just happened to set up where it split the entire Chicago area and half were half God. "I am? Right? Evil can evil If anyone could descend from a ladder out of a helicopter, it would be Robin. That's for sure. No, I so with the with the snow, you know we're here. You know, now with 303 East Wacker, right? Had a perfect view of Wacker Drive a perfect view of the Lake Shore drive, and it's still coming down pretty hard. And how long will that continue? Do you think today This will go into early tonight? Dean along the lake, And as I say, we'll probably pick up another 2 to 5 inches. That's Maddie in the background bark is, she says, I don't approve of this. That's our little doggie. Uh, boy, there's a trip taking your dog out in the snow. They either love it or they hate it. Matty stops and says, You think I'm going out in this? You're crazy. You do it first, and then I'll do it. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. How would you like to be asked to go out through this? What? Effectively, Matty says to us. So Dean handle snow, and we got 20 to 30 mile per hour winds coming in off the lake, And it's a fascinating scene. I'm a pure, uh, in the eggs, Water neighborhood just three blocks north of the end of lecture Dr. Looking down at the water. The lake is filled with pancake guys. You probably have a great view of it from the studio there, Dean and the way Sure coming through it. So it's fun. It's interesting to watch how these big waves driven by all this wind are coming in against this ice shrouded, ice covered, you know Lake of the up against the shoreline here. It's quite a scene. So we are expecting if you know, I've been reading your updates properly. In addition to What we're getting today. When it'll finally ends. It's gonna be a pretty cold week coming up. It looks like yeah, it will be denied. We've got a windy storm coming in later in the week on that's supposed to put us in suddenly winds that should warm us up some Uh, say Thursday and then a pretty good chunk of cold air coming down. You know, it's happened, Dean. It's been fascinating to watch what we went through the first two thirds of this winter way above normal and temperature and was well acting, you know, lacking any snow, but this is a lot of senior year and those those winners in La Ninas that's a cooling of the equatorial Pacific water. It has an impact on North American weather. What it does to us is tend to produce above normal winters, precipitation, rain and snow. But also it's very volatile, and we're seeing that now the cold air in resided on the other side of the hemisphere over and Russia, Siberia, Asia, Even Europe was getting so good snows. Now it's crossed the polls come into this side of the hemisphere in the last week, and look what's happened that strengthens the jet stream. You get these storms to start rolling in off the Pacific. Woman write me from Sacramento. This storm when it crossed California produced 15 inches of rain and the low elevations collapsed. The Pacific highway that runs along the California coast. And produced 7 Ft. Of Snow in the California Sierra was shut down movement. This woman wrote me on Social media, said this island in Sacramento, she said, and I've never seen a storm like this. So this is the system that's jumped across the mountains. It's sitting and southern Indiana right now, with a web of isobars indicating a lot of wind around it. And of course, we're on the north side, so we get a northeast wind. Coming in from Lake Michigan and boy that wind can really slice through the area because there's nothing out there to stop it. Winds tend to drag along land surfaces and slow down through frictional drag. That were coming off. The lake has no little personal drag. And so it really blows into the city. Yeah, Yeah, Imagine you're gonna have some pretty spectacular weather pictures to show on your Your weather show's over the next couple of days, right? Yeah. You know somebody Joe Club Toschi from the Tinley Park sent me this picture. I just put up on Facebook. Look, he drew a face and from the snow accumulation on his car, you know, with a big smile on the hood. And the eyes on the windshield, and it's It's quite a shot. But, gosh, I've been sent pictures of little doggies being taken out running for the snow and having fun. And God's patio tables bearing 10 to 12 inches of snow, and it's really interesting and rulers. Uh, I've got a lot of people people in on our text line. People are sending me the ruler shots. They Yeah. Go outside with the yardstick to show what they've got. I've got several bird houses that are completely engulfed in snow. I've got the patio tables that were out there. Somebody. Somebody was just encouraging me the other day that because I love to do the cooking on TV Now that I should actually do cooking outside on the grill in the cold weather and wonderful idea, and I love that. I'm sure you would love it too. Nothing like boiling a steak and a 30 mile per hour Wind family falling snow As I was leaving the house this morning I was trying to find my barbecue girl to see if I could even see it it had been. It's completely drifted over with snow on while my dad so that there will definitely not be any, uh, Uncle Dean took cooking outdoor cooking segments for a while. But okay, so we have. Ah, We have a few more.

"Is that Struggling to survive, and that is something that most people don't realize about The hotel industry is it's not the big brain that own and operate these properties. It's not them that are struggling. It's local Illinois. What percentage of your hotel of our hotels? The hotels in the state are currently opened, you know? Most. I will say that we're getting more and more reports, particularly in the city of Chicago, especially downtown hotels that are shutting back down for the winter and suspending their operations like I held earlier today was about 25 properties that have thrown in the towel on the winter Congress increasing every day. That's downtown Chicago. Correct s O, You know, I've said this a few times, but the studios here are three or three. East Wacker, So I'm just across the river from the Sheraton Hotel, and I don't think it's ever reopened. I mean, it's you know, they're doing like window designs of gingerbread man now, just to sort of draw a little attention and lift people's spirits. But there's no one staying there. And I don't think they've ever re opened from the summer. Have they That's correct there. One of the several, especially you look at that property and several others downtown. Some of our largest ones. They're so relying on conventions and meetings that until those resumes, they're not going to reopen. On D. I mean, at a minimum, it's gonna be a year into that Those larger hotels have remained closed, and that's their fighting for survival. There. They're at risk of losing their properties, either because of back taxes, property taxes to the tune of 10 $11 million a year that they owe, But also the loans on the properties themselves that are are coming. Do so. Our downtown hotels at Reliant Meetings are the ones that are hurting the most. The occupancy rates two weeks ago in downtown Chicago was 12%. You can't survive at 12%. No, the Hilton Hilton hotels out with a statement. Last evening, the Hilton caught Chicago, Northbrook hosted a family wedding with about 150 people in attendance while it was booked before the latest mitigation efforts. We sincerely regret allowing the gathering to proceed. And our family apologizes to our guests, Employees and the community. It will take time. But we hope to rebuild trust. It will take time to rebuild a lot of things around here, Michael, But I mean, will there be a dramatically Where are we going to see behemoths like the Sheraton Hotel or others in downtown Chicago just never reopened. I think it's a little too early to figure that out. I think the thing about some of the big hotels downtown is that there's few opportunities for them convert into a different use because of the unique build of a hotel. So, um will they maybe change ownership or before close? We've seen foreclosures downtown already, I think absolutely Do I think we will lose some for good? Absolutely. I think it's just too early to tell exactly how many into you talk about foreclosures. What's the future? The Palmer House? It's going through the foreclosure process right now. Hopefully they'll find another owner for it here soon, And once we I mean we as an industry. We are anxiously awaiting that vaccine more than anybody else, because again with that, especially in the Chicago market without meeting convention, that is our lifeblood, and we need that vaccine. So once we are able to resume that that business with a greater capacity that I think you will see some of the larger properties like the Palmer House re open their doors. Sin from the Illinois Hotel and lodging Association, Michael We'll talk again in happier times. That might not be the next time, but eventually, when we talk, it'll be happier times. I'm looking forward to that day. Thanks for helping us out today. I appreciate it. The news coming up from the WGN news room, but first Then just make software for better customer service. "Feet back, And it's always very impressive when in addition to e mails and texts, their actual letters that people take the time Write us so When somebody sends us something in the actual real mail, I feel obligated to at least acknowledge on the radio. Their note that they have taken the time to write Bob Surround WGN Radio 303 East Wacker Chicago six of six, so one. This is from Mary Moly and Gray's Lake. Illinois. Um, Dear Bob, I found these gems while cleaning out closets. Since we don't go anywhere, Let's see. I save so many things. The Chicago trivia card is from a game published in 1983. The newspaper, complete with coffee stains is a great look at the Past. I do. Enjoy your WGN morning show. Yeah. And well, since you say here Oh, is this your third time A W g N I think it is. I do. Remember some years ago when your daughter asked you and Marianne, if you were fired, you told her no, that your contract wasn't renewed. That's a good one. I do like hearing Marianne. On the air with you and in those previous programs that also liked your visits with Gloria and Emilio Estefan. Yeah. My wife went to high school. Gloria, I do wish you an enjoyable holiday season. Well, thanks. Mary Ellen Appreciate that. And this card that she sent from a Chicago trivia game. It's like what was the trivia game? Everybody played. I hated the game. But what was that game pursuit? Trivial pursuit? Yeah, and they have these local versions of it. You know the answer to these questions here. What was the name of the Southside Catholic Church visited by Pope John Paul, the 2nd 1979. Anyone? Five Holy martyrs. I'm very smart when I have the card here what was built in the northwest corner of Lake Street and Wacker Drive in 18 32, the first Chicago Post office Replaced William L. Dawson as congressman. "Jon Hansen in for Bob's throughout on this Friday morning, 7 40 on 7 20. Thank you so much for listening. We certainly appreciate it. The sun is up hidden behind some clouds Look out to east from the 18th floor here. And a three or three East Wacker. Thank you so much for spending part of your day with us. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving whether it was done virtually or small group gathering. It seems like the reports were. Most people are no matter how you celebrate. It seems like there was plenty of food to be had and plenty of leftovers. I still can't get over the fact that Steve's wife, who we've now learned is her nickname is saucy rings a bell or ring a bell for Steve to wake him up and let him know that Thanksgiving meal was prepared. On, by the way, Steve Rogers. I don't know if you're think he's working on something else right now, but I don't know He's been covering the story of the Utah monolith. The giant piece of well I don't know what it is, but it looks like this silver reflective. Giant structure that was discovered by people checking up on sheep in Utah from a helicopter. They went down and discovered. I don't know if you've seen this story, but it's pretty incredible people thinking that maybe it's aliens planted that they're not exactly sure, maybe a piece of artwork But the Internet sleuth seemed to have figured out exactly what it is so again. This came from Smithsonian magazine in the Utah Desert. This giant metal it's about 15 ft. Tall, just this silver's reflective structure set up and it looks like that the Internet speculation has led to believe that it's actually left over. Pieces of work from film crews that are in the area. So read it dove into it, and they looked at old Google Earth images, satellite images going years and years back, and they found out this big monolith was put there sometime in the year. 2015 or 2016, And apparently, this area is ah, well done, and a lot of the movies that they do a lot of the films they film there. And Westworld was filmed right nearby this monolith over the past couple years and they think that it's a leftover piece of a set, but no one can seem filed to find in West world where it is. I don't know if you've been following this monolith story, Jordan the big structure in the Utah desert that people think aliens left. I have not whole story. But I wonder if one of these dolls might be talking. You're gonna pivot goes back to something. Steven, you've been covering this thing. No, this is crazy Smile reading about it. Yeah, some people. It almost looks like the top. Someone had a mim on online that it looks like the top of a globe like that's where the point up is where it rotates around that, um Cause it is just a kind of looks like what's in this 2001 space? Yeah, that's what I was going to say. But are you gonna tell people what they think It is a piece of set from Westworld left over which it kind of looks like it. But although I've seen I've seen all the episodes of Westworld, do we have a comparison to some pieces said that about that, too. I don't remember anything like that in West world right and the focus of the Utah Um Canyonlands National Park officials say they don't think it's a movie set leftover piece of what would it be? Because apparently, several other movies were shot in the area to Yeah, they filmed Indiana Jones and the last crusade Now, that would be 1989. So I doubt they left it over for that long. Thelma and Louise 127 hours, those all film there, but I can't picture a monolith in any of those films. It's really bizarre aliens. Yeah, let's just go with aliens. Okay? I mean, it's 2020. So that's a lot more exciting. It is. Yeah, although the doll theories also pretty good. Could be like stranger things too. You know, maybe that's where the upside down is located. Oh, I see what you're saying. There is this like It is. The crevice of the canyon is is right in line with the monolith. So some people thought maybe it was an artwork installation that would do it. I mean, who's dragging a giant monolith? Like I mean, artists I know like to have their work scene, right and and appreciated. I don't think you're dragging a monolith through the Utah desert to set up a czar work. No one's gonna see that hard work And I mean, this is very remote. Yes, they said, if you go to look at it, you may never come back. Yeah, I bet. Well, now everyone's going and they're posting photos because they found out where the coordinates were. But it's got to be an arduous journey. It's a little bit like Stonehenge, right? Exactly. Dragon. They have no idea how they transported all that rock there. It was a giant spaceship 200 million years ago. Dropping a marker Earth. Yeah. Are you in aliens, guys? TV, but you believe in it. Have done a little reading. I don't know if I believe it or not. Okay. All right. I've done a little reading. There's always a scary place to start with conspiracy theories, especially bits on the Internet. Let's get some hard news, though. The weather today we'll see the sun eventually, right, we will, but it's boy. It's taken awhile if At least where we are downtown is pretty bleak..

"Morning and grain Chicago day may fourteenth Thursday it's Bob's garage glad you there with us I was just looking across the way here from our building on east Wacker there's a high rise apartment building or condo and I see this every morning there is there's there's a woman I can barely make out the figure because it's it's pretty far away but I can see through the window and she's on some sort of exercise machine and I see here in the morning and edit she makes you feel like a slog because she is moving so fast and whatever apparatus she's on she looks like Mick Jagger James Brown or you know dancing I mean it is crazy how fast she's going this makes you want to do something I feel like all of your customized yeah I yeah I did burpees here at five at five o'clock in the morning to wake up but yeah I mean I think I think I don't know if maybe she's watching some video and doing some dance or something but while not a peloton as she could so I can't I can't make it out and I don't I don't think I'd be right for me to bring the bacula is out now I think that's enough seen enough thank America exercising in her pajamas no no I she well I think she's it looks like she's wearing like a some sort of black work out suit of some sort sell my report this morning from three oh three east Wacker here on the eighteenth floor we're talking about grocery grocery stores and shortages of Steve was talking about his his problems at the jewel in the city I see that overall the price of groceries up two point six percent the biggest increase from one month to the Nexans nineteen seventy four wow prices at the supermarket rising sharply because the corona virus has disrupted the food supply chain also panic shopping customers are buying lots of food they don't need to immediately east that's for sure one of the biggest increases and and this is usually something you can count on as being relatively cheap egg prices shot up sixteen percent last month food supplies are pinged demand is high that makes the prices go up don't have prices up five percent cookies up five percent oranges and other citrus fruits up five and a half percent chicken up almost six percent hot dogs almost six percent and that's a problem for you is yes it is the watch my budget more kids are home they're eaten more hot dogs as parents are running out of ideas Aaron salads fell by three point six percent and we'll figure this out fresh cupcakes fell two point three percent we're craving comfort foods that nutritionists we talked to yesterday was talking about frozen foods and Hester which which frozen mac and cheese is the best and she said none of them hello and she wasn't very big on the brand that is called healthy choice he didn't like that either no the cupcakes part of that story is a little concerning I know I haven't been buying anything sweet just because I'm trying to eat healthier but I thought about it and I thought you know what I think if I'm gonna buy anything it's gonna be pre packaged is there any concern about like stuff that's in the baked goods area I mean can we is it stuffing handle can we eat that I mean I think that might be a good question for next expert well you know what it usually they would have individual muffins and and cookies so you could you know grab one of those plastic things and and take one and now I notice the most stores they the E. U. you have to buy them in a plastic box you can't just buy one cookie you can't just take one muffin out usually it's it's packaged up in plastic so I would think that's safe yeah even the bagels you know how you grab bagels yeah man and stuff at the jewel I don't know I haven't done it lately but in all begs the question are we ever going to be able to go back to that are we ever going to be able to grab bagels and is there ever going to be a salad bar again well let me tell you this is the thing that really depresses me because I'm a and I've mentioned this before one of the reasons I love the farmers markets one of the reasons I love shopping at places like Costco and trader Joe's it's because of the samples that you get what fun is it now yeah it's gonna be a long time before before we get that again for sure he stood volunteer to go to Casco at lunch time if I was hungry and then trader Joe's with all they'd always be cooking up something in the back give you some sample there and then of course you know you get you get a little small sample and then became a cruise around the aisles and and wait for the person preparing the samples to go in the back to get to get some new something new back there and then you go back and get another one take another one at six seventeen already Alex you know weather in traffic update take care a little business and get to the top six and six S. it's going to be rainy today but warm at least Steve yeah and we have some thunderstorms rolling through the area right now we've been keeping a very close watch on radar this morning but this hour thunderstorms are being reported at the page airport and out of Rockford and they of radar screen is becoming more covered with rain and thunderstorms this morning that's going to be the story of the day expect a high up near seventy three today more rain and thunderstorms tonight maybe some severe thunderstorms and heavy rain low fifty eight morning clouds tomorrow lingering rain high near seventy two right now in Chicago fifty five at o'hare it's fifty five at midway fifty five along the lakefront and without the rain coming through starting to see a bunch of accidents one on I. eighty heading westbound at Harlem accident westbound on I. ninety the Jane Addams right before Beverly car went into the wall there and also in accidents on the Keeler on ramp on the opposite side of the Kennedy CTA redline experiencing some delays due to earlier police activity I merry band fell from the IDA traffic center reminding you to drive responsibly.

"The news starting next week they will try to contact travelers twenty four hours in advance of a flight appears to be nearly full so they can switch to a different flight or take a travel credit that option also will be available at the gate if enough passengers to occupy at least seventy percent of all seats on a flight have checked in many people think about flying again so you can see you're gonna see planes filling up a little more airports get a little more crowded and people are concerned with this the number of travelers going through airport security screening is down more than ninety percent compared with last year according to the TSA United has said eighty five percent of their flights are less than half full but the airlines have also dramatically cut the number of flights they operate so some can still fill up delta says they're going to limit the number of customers on board by capping seating capacity of fifty percent in first class sixty percent and coach N. delta says they're going to prevent customers from picking middle seats and certain seats and two seat rows when buying tickets delta passengers who want to sit next to someone the traveling with have to speak to the agent at the gate so people who are flying are expecting empty seats and plenty of them but it hasn't always been the case so United coming out with that statement and delta talking about what they're gonna do as well talking about flying how do I miss the blue angels I thought I mean I look at my watch it was about eleven thirty and I thought oh good fifteen minutes I'll I'll see if I can see them and then I forgot all about it and I didn't hear them so I guess it in straight from my house this is interesting I was reading about how they they didn't make any landings because they wanted to limit the pilots exposure to the virus so during their flight to the Chicago area the jets refueled in midair five or six times there were six jets flying in formation over Chicago a seventh jet with a pilot and a photographer trailed the group to capture images of the flying I wonder if it's possible I know that Joe in the control room he's hooked hooked up to everybody there Joe could you give the blue angels a quick call and ask them if they can do a quick fly over here by our building at three oh three east Wacker right now so I can see them I'm on it okay let me know when when you've reached them and when they're going to do the flyover have they responded yet sorry I was on the phone with them it looks like they're ready to go oh oh great okay do I look right out the window here behind me all right okay I'm lookin.

"We're on the eighteenth floor of the Bob's around building thrill three east Wacker and we'll we'll across the river we see you the Sheraton Chicago hotel and we can look into the exercise room and you see through the windows you see I was looking everybody on on the treadmill this morning all the people there look like a rats on on a wheel who like durables it is somehow it looks it looks sad to me to see to see that and if you're if you're exercising this morning and your goal is to lose fat especially around the belly you cannot specifically spot reduce you you need to target body fat as a whole this is the latest from the experts who say consistent diet and exercise play a role in this but it's true that some work outs do burn fat faster and more efficiently than others so what's the best work out for burning fat fast you might think it's cardio like running get on that treadmill cycling or swimming but now they say all cardio plays a big role in a healthy lifestyle is not the most effective way to shed fast according to two trainers in this article that title goes to resistance training especially the kind that involves high intensity circuits to get a hit the weights as well the combination of high intensity interval training and resistance training is seriously affected according to certified personal trainer Ashley Kelly who trains clients in New York City she says essentially you're performing a set of exercises designed to strengthen specific body parts with little to no rest between exercises it's a pretty simple formula you build muscle through strength training either with the weights for body weight exercises and you Max out your heart rate by doing it in fast intense circuits another head trainer and a personal training coach puts it this way resistance training with an elevated heart rate is the fastest way to lose fat but don't you kinda gain weight because muscle weight weighs more than fat well what they're saying is it all comes down to the muscle building aspect cardio does wonders you getting your heart rate up it does not engage your build muscles the way resistance training does cardio can actually break muscle down if you do too much of it without proper fuel right so just a little bit of everything but it may awful trading yes he's right your your weight might increase that turn fat to muscle or is the milk muscle and lose fat that's my good but he's still not that's not necessarily bad now and you can tell when your pants are too tight you know that's the that's again it's better than the scale to measure right with high intensity resistance training the whole point is to build muscle not only do you burn major calories throughout the work out thanks to your elevated heart rate but you also keep burning them throughout the day one doctor here says there's a direct correlation between individuals muscle mass and how many calories he or she burns muscle burns fat even when you're resting the more muscle you have the higher your is your resting metabolic rate the more calories you burn even when you're chilling on the couch sedentary also my muscle will weighs more than my fat but my muscles also getting rid of my fat kind of that would use that doctor brown so here's what this means for your workout schedule the these trainers and doctors in this article I'll recommend balancing.
