This is your warning. I'm just warning you that, yes, there is things in this episode that are not always appropriate for homeschoolers. Email us as always freedom at charliekirk .com and get involved with Turning Point USA at tpusa .com. That is tpusa .com. Buckle up, everybody. Here we go. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to tonight's edition, this week's edition of Thought Crime. Are you ready to commit thought crime? Because we've got a lot. Let's go around the horn. I'm not even sure because we got a lot of craziness going on right now. Our gas prices are up almost a full dollar here since last week, almost. And I was in California about a week ago. And I think are you guys hitting about six, almost $6 a gallon right now? Yeah, we are. Yeah, it's about five. How do you do it? I mean, honestly, Santa Barbara is a small town, so we don't drive a whole bunch. We don't feel it as much as probably like, you know, our Los Angeles friends. But I mean, at the end of the day, I mean, California is and actually this, this includes Arizona, Nevada, I believe, Washington and Oregon are considered the same sort of gas island. So they are as it has to do with where the oil comes from. It has to do with where they're getting refined. California has all these special additives and regulations that the refineries, these these benchmarks that refineries need to hit. So it can only come from certain refineries. So it limits the supply even more. It's a whole problem. So Charlie will be here in a little bit. He's at the Pastor Summit right now. He's dealing with some stuff. He's taking care of business on assignment, of course, for Turning Point USA, the faith coalition. But we're here. We're going to hold down the fort until Charlie returns. So shoot us your emails freedom at Charlie kirk .com. Let's get into the first topic here. This one, I think we've all talked about it, but we haven't all mentioned it together. This one, the the revenge or should we say the elegy for Willard Romney? Willard Mitt Romney has announced he's quitting the Senate total rage quit right before the 2024 election. So he's going to serve out the remainder of his term. And of course, as befits his character, he's riding off into the sunset by having the globalists at the Atlantic publish a completely obnoxious passive aggressive interview, trashing his colleagues, trashing Trump, trashing the GOP base. So what is the final word on the GOP 2012 standard bearer, the man who was the nominee for president in 2012? And, Blake, I think you actually have an excerpt from the from this article that's by McKay Coppins in the Atlantic. Oh, well, yeah, exactly, Jack. It's it's amazing. So, of course, he's everything about Romney is, you know, the supposed like, you know, politeness and decorum and all the damage that Trump does to our democracy by being always the last Boy Scout. Yeah, yeah, the last Boy Scout. So naturally, what he does is he announces he's retiring. And then, you know, in perfect timing with it, McKay Coppins has this biography that he's putting out that's, you know, all about Romney and has all these like data points in it. And he's basically just like Romney doing like a drive by shooting on other members of the Republican Party as he leaves. Let's see, like one of the lines from it. This is a summary as Axios summarizes it helpfully for us. Romney shares a unique disgust for senators Josh Hawley of Missouri and Ted Cruz of Texas, who he thought were too smart to believe Trump won the 2020 election. But, quote, put politics above the interests of liberal democracy and the Constitution. And then the even wilder one is for Senator J .D. Vance of Ohio. He says, quote, I don't know that I can disrespect someone more than J .D. Vance. That is a direct quote from Senator Romney describing Senator Vance, who he still has to, you know, share a Senate chamber with for the next year before he actually quits. But, you know, J .D., I mean, can can someone explain what what what is J .D. Vance done in his time in the Senate that's been so ill reputable? It could. Does anyone have what when he went to East Palestine and it seems it seems his crime is that went on there? I'm trying to figure this out. It seems his crime is that, you know, J .D. Vance came out of Ohio. He went to Yale, I believe it was. And then he was in finance and was, you know, and then wrote his memoir, which was very well received. And he's this up and comer on the coast. And then I guess he moved back to Ohio, started doing too many appearances on Tucker Carlson tonight. And like, according to Romney, it was like the transformation was just was just too jarring, like it was too too much of a transformation for for Mr. Romney, who himself has basically transmuted into this like Democrat, I guess. But that doesn't count. This is an interesting this is an interesting take on on all of it. And Andrew, maybe you can give us a sense of it, because what I think that Romney is really upset about here is that he's considering J .D. Vance a class a class traitor. He's calling him a class traitor and saying, look, you're allowed to make money in finance. You're allowed to make go to Yale. You're allowed to go to the great schools. But the one thing and you're certainly allowed to run for the Senate. But the one thing you're not allowed to do is actually go out to the people of your state, listen to the their interests and listen to their issues and then grow and go and try to actually represent them in the United States Senate. This I is think class traitor. I think that's really smart framing, Jack, because at some level, a lot of this is much more about vibe. It's much more about what Mitt Romney thinks is classy versus gross or respectable versus, you know, essentially untoward and beyond the pale. Right. So it's all based on his own little framework of of class structure, of decorum, those sorts of things. So it says here in this, he says he was also highly critical of Senator J .D. Vance, Republican of Ohio, who reinvented his persona to become a Trump acolyte after publishing a bestselling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy about the working class that Romney loved. So Romney loved the book. So at some level, I think it was just like, so I love this book. And how can this kind of become like a Trump bootlicker? Go ahead. Right. So I can there's there and just real quickly, it's kind of like because in the book, J .D. Vance's conclusions, I would say I don't offer this as criticism. I just say it's sort of it's an evolution on J .D. Vance's part because he sort of just says in the book, well, that that sort of that blase classic Republican line of, you know, and everybody just needs to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. I can do it. So can you. And we should cut taxes for big businesses and the one percent pays most of the income tax and that that's kind of it. And then when he went to actually run for office and started really engaging with people politically, that's when he shifted, not socially. Right. But he shifted economically to become more of a populist. Blake, what you're saying? Well, what's so telling in this article is like some of the just a little specific anecdotes that it does pick. And I almost wonder if Coppins is like subtly trolling Romney. Apparently Romney lives by himself and his family in D .C. It mentions let me get let me get the line here. It talks about his his his pad that he lives in. And it says the place had not been Romney's first choice for Washington residents when he was elected in twenty eighteen. He'd had his eye on a newly remodeled condo at the Watergate with glittering views of the Potomac. His wife, Ann, fell in love with the place, but his soon to be staffers and colleagues warned him about the commute, which, by the way, it's like a mile and a half to the Capitol. So he grudgingly chose practicality over luxury and settled for the two point four million dollar townhouse instead. And then, of course, this is not good enough for for Ann. So she never visits him when he's in D .C. So it turns into a gross bachelor pad that has it mentions there's crumbs everywhere.

Sen. JD Vance Proposes Safety Standards for Railroads and Firefighters
"Let's bring in senator JD Vance from Ohio senator. Thanks for making time for us today. Good to be with you, Alex. So let's first talk about your real Bill. I think this is a big deal and I love that you're showing leadership here. Is this your first big Bill? I guess that's my first half question. And the other thing is noteworthy that you're actually not doing this to campaign for some higher office, you're actually trying to benefit the people of Ohio with it, which is nice. Explain what's going on and you're building a huge coalition. Give me the details. Yeah, so the basic idea is what happened in east palestin, Ohio, where you had a train crash, terrible chemical fire afterwards, and basically a chemical bomb that went off in northeastern Ohio. I don't think that was going to happen again, or at least we should do some common sense things to make it less likely. What I've tried to do here is basically create a couple of additional safety standards that railroads have to comport with. And then simultaneously make it so that the firefighters who are dealing with these chemical fires when you have the train crashes to begin with, they actually know what they're dealing with because that's something I heard from the folks of east Palestine and 99% volunteer firefighting force is they were going to this chemical fire. They didn't know what they were actually dealing with and how could they properly protect themselves or deal with the fire given that given that reality. So the bill addresses both of those things. And the thing that I try to remind people because I know a number of conservatives don't like the idea of doing anything that makes it harder for corporate America to live their life. The basic problem here is that the railroads socialize the risk of their business model. When they have a massive train crash, that costs a lot of money for Ohio taxpayers, it costs a lot of money for federal taxpayers. Think about the welfare benefits they're going to flow out through the door to the people of east Palestinian to healthcare benefits because of the health and economic consequences of what Norfolk Southern did. And if we're going to do that, and I think of course we should, we have to take care of the people of east Palestinian. We should expect Norfolk Southern and other real companies to hold themselves to a higher standard. And that's exactly what we're doing with this bill. It's pretty simple and straightforward. I know, you know, rightfully so people are focused on the border. People are focused on the debt ceiling negotiation. Those are all very important issues. But I think this is a small win that I can get for the people of Ohio that matters a lot to folks back

Biden Bails out Silicon Valley, Continues to Ignore East Palestine
"The Washington times good paper Biden rushes to bail out Silicon Valley continues to ignore east Palestine Ohio He thought about that rich Isn't that amazing So the Democrats are always about bailing out Democrats The elite donors The bigwigs East Palestinian doesn't even merit a visit by this moron Now you think about that folks And there's going to be more about the money that's gone to the Biden crime family from the communist Chinese and admitted this is unbelievable to me that there's not an ongoing investigation Of Biden and his family forget about hunter hunter is just a little piece of it The big guy at the top none of this would be possible But for the big guy and yet they are covering up for this guy like there's no tomorrow But there's no tomorrow The Biden keeps talking about now that Republicans want to defund the police Because they didn't vote for his massive climate change bill that was dressed up as an inflation reduction bill That had all kinds of stuff in there and we get money to states and cities and he said that money could have been used to hire police but the Republicans voted against it therefore they defund it This is why this crackpot was failing in law school and had a plagiarizing cheat to get through a test Because he's an idiot But if you're an idiot in politics you're righteous If you know how to lie and lie often even if you're caught but you act like you're telling the truth you can become a Democrat party Apparatchik or an official as well It's just incredible to me

Washington's Disconnect From Middle America
"Last question on this Dave McCormick, one of my comments yesterday flying cross country was billions for the blue bubble boys in Silicon Valley and you don't get the time of day if you're an eastern Ohio or western Pennsylvania on the derailment. Some people thought that wasn't fair, but I believe it's all of a sudden these connected VCs are on the phones of their buddies in D.C.. They get action in 48 hours. We still haven't got the president in east Palestine, and you know that area very well. I mean, you grew up there. You probably are closer to each Palestine than I am. It was 40 miles down the road from Warren, but it's probably less from where you grew up. Yeah. Well, you know, from where I was born, certainly. Yeah, I grew up in a different part of the state, but I grew up around Scranton, but I was born right near there and I've been talking to my Friends at beaver county. Who are most affected by it. And I agree with you a 100% in the following sense. The thing that I discovered on the campaign trail, the thing that I felt more visceral I should say on the campaign, the thing that I think president Trump tapped into in 2016 is that there's this disconnect where the people that are making policy in Washington and the excel a bubble between Washington, New York are completely disconnected and really not particularly focused on or care about the people that are living in mainstream America. And that certainly the case with and these Palestine thing is essentially a good example, not because the president is showing up would have changed the outcome necessarily or even change the policy. It would have been reflective of actually caring and being connected to the people that are most affected by it. And it's the same with fentanyl, it's the same with fracking. It's the same with inflation. It's the same with the open border. These are issues which are being felt by a huge part of America, and that was really the inspiration for the book.

Norfolk Southern to pay millions for derailment: governor

Meanwhile, the cleanup from the February 3rd train derailment continues in east Palestine, Ohio, and the EPA has ordered Norfolk Southern to cover those costs, concern over an explosion led state and local officials to approve releasing and burning toxic vinyl chloride from 5 tanker cars. Senator J.D. Vance Gives Us the Latest Out of Ohio
"Vance senator Vance, welcome back to Merck first. Thank you, Seth, how are you? Good, good, good, good. I wanted to play the clip we've been playing a view drawing that little stick through the crick and then seeing all those pollutants well up. Can you tell us what the latest is from east Palestine and how our Ohio, ohioans doing without the meaningful assistance from this administration. Yeah, well, a couple of big updates. So first of all, they still have not fully cleaned up the contaminated site. So you think about what's causing those chemicals in the water. It's the leaching from the soil, the soil is still contaminated, and they haven't cleaned it up. This is the second thing, of course, the Biden administration continues to largely be MIA, especially the Department of Transportation. The EPA has spent a little bit more time in east palestin. I've actually been happy about that, but everybody else seems to be ignoring these guys. Why is the president not going? If president Trump can take the time, why does Biden not go? Well, by the way, president Trump coming, I think, actually really forced the Biden administration to do more than they were doing at the time. So any action we've seen from them, we've seen in the last week since that visit from president Trump. Look, I think Biden thinks these people aren't his voters. He doesn't care about them. It's really that simple. I think the Democrats see American politics in a friend versus enemy kind of way. They didn't vote for him, so he's not going to pay him any attention. It's disgusting, but that's the way that he sees it.

He's very experienced federal politician and I would have thought that it would have come easily to him. He's not a he's not a particularly reticent man. He's rather affable sociable person. And he seems to get on relevant when he does visit with average people. But political leaders have been very stiff and not a threes at all and that sort of situation. Lord Conrad Black on Jeb Bush's Endorsement(?) of Ron DeSantis
"Perhaps we can start with this. A scion of one of the two political one of the two most powerful political dynasties in America, the Bush family. Jeb Bush made this endorsement at the weekend of president Trump's challenge at cut ten. Is this Ron DeSantis opportunity to run for higher office? I think it is. He's been a really effective governor. He's young. I think we're on the verge of a generational change in our politics. What kind of hope so I think it's time for a more forward leaning future oriented conversation in our politics as well. That was quite a hagiographic little interview with Jeb Bush, where he said, yes, yes, we need a new generation. Fascinatingly, lord black, early this morning, political, which is slightly beneath the gutter. Politico published the story that they had been emailed by the former governor Jeb Bush, who not quite a full retraction but stated, I did not endorse Ron DeSantis. I merely praised him. That reminds me of Mark Antony's speech at Caesar's burial. Isn't this peculiar presidential politics? I wouldn't want to mind read chip bush, but in fairness to him, I'd say two things. And look, he had a bruising battle and a completely unsuccessful battle with Donald Trump in 2016 for the Republican nomination. Anyone who followed it remembers what a shambles and a wreckage Trump made of the previously favored Jeb Bush campaign. He was thought by many to be the FrontRunner. And he was demolished. And he certainly vividly remembers the extreme antagonism of candidate Trump to the George W. Bush presidency, especially the Iraq War. I think it's fair to say president Trump's been generally much more respectful of the former prison bush, Jeb bush father. So he has that and I mean, whether one agrees with the Trump view or the bush view, I think we can all understand why Jeb Bush has his reservations about Trump

Speaking at the Senate Judiciary Committee, Garland will emphasize how DoJ officials have worked to combat violent crime and hate crimes to assist the Ukraine officials in defending democracy and to, according to an excerpt, shared with playbook, protect reproductive freedom. Then comes the hard part following his opening statement, Carlin will be grilled on several issues, his department has notably avoided discussing. He'll face questions about the status of the special counsel probes of Trump's and Biden's handling of classified materials, as well as the ongoing investigation into the January 6th capitol riot. House judiciary chairman Jim Jordan's subpoena, concerning the DoJ's handling of apparent protests and disruptions at school board meetings comes due a 9 a.m. today. Lawmakers from both parties are expected to probe Garland about the curious case of former FBI agent Charles mcgonagall who stands accused of taking money from a Russian oligarch, a situation that's prompting concern about whether the DoJ can police itself. And he may find himself fielding a question or two about the origins of the COVID-19 virus after FBI director Christopher wray confirmed yesterday in a Fox News interview that the agency has concluded the pandemic originated with the lab leak and accused the Chinese government of doing its best to tort an obfuscate the origins probe.

We've already provided $13 billion in support and there's an additional 10 billion that we expect to provide over the next 9 months. Unbelievable. Matt Gaetz unconditional Matt, no matter what they do, unconditional your thoughts. The only love that is truly unconditional. Seriously. Love between the Biden administration and Ukraine where we are currently now funding the pension liabilities within the Ukrainian government. We have firefighters and police in this country in dilapidated areas where they wonder whether or not their pensions will be fully funded. But we can do that in Ukraine. Tomorrow, we will have leading officials at the Department of Defense before the House armed services committee, and they will lay out their vision on Ukraine. And we will hear a lot of that information. One of the witnesses will be the DoD inspector general. And this is the question I will ask. Have we followed U.S. law with the monitoring end to end of U.S. material and munitions? And military equipment. And to Ukraine. And if they are honest, the answer will be no.

Rep. David Kustoff: Committee Members Should Visit the Border
"So that's another thing that I plot our Republican leadership doing what you just talked about is taking the committee out of Washington D.C. Todd and taking him to really to real America to the border. My committee, the ways and means committee had a hearing a few weeks ago when Petersburg West Virginia and we've got another one coming up next week and in Oklahoma. But taking the hearings, Jim Jordan taking the judiciary committee to the border. I know Mark green's going to be taking his Homeland Security committee to the border. So that the members of Congress could hear directly from border control agents, local law enforcement, everybody. So that when we're looking at legislation and things that we can craft, try to address these problems that we're not operating in a vacuum, we're hearing from again from people with experience. And I'm glad that Biden went to what do you create? But you ought to go to the border. The ought to go to he ought to go to Ohio to east Palestine and talk to real people who have been afflicted by all these issues, including the border, which when I talked to local law enforcement, not only do they know about migrants, but the drugs and the fentanyl that are in our communities, whether it's my district or anybody else's, they're coming Todd directly through the southern border. They're being transported by a number of these people and the cartel. So bottom line is we've got a seal off that border.

"It's a waste of time for them. Donald Trump has not, though, Donald Trump in Ohio had one of his best political moments in years. 78, he says you are forgotten no longer. To the people of east Palestine and to the nearby communities in Ohio and Pennsylvania, we have told you loud and clear you are not forgotten. You are not forgotten. We stand with you. We pray for you and we will stay with you and your fight to help answer and the accountability that you deserve will have that accountability. It will all be out there very clearly. The Democrats used to represent places like eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. That used to be Democrat country. But when Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016 for calling out their neoliberalism of relaxed trained policies of unlimited people coming to the country and adventurous foreign wars, the three foundational elements of neoliberalism invade the world invite the world in port products we don't need. Those are the three bunch of plastic garbage that you're not going to remember. You don't need that will fill up your garage. Bunch of foreigners coming into your country and invading a country a year, just perpetual war, feed the war machine, feed the war machine feed the war machine. Those are the foundational elements of neoliberalism. Donald Trump called them all out and that really the Democrats laughed at him. Remember Hillary Clinton said, there's no way he could possibly win. Bill Clinton, though. If you remember the 2016 campaign, I remember this vividly. Bill Clinton was the only one that was trying to tell Democrats there might be something to this because Bill Clinton himself successfully ran as a moderate and he actually governed more as a moderate than I think people give him credit for. He did some wacky stuff, but Bill Clinton was no extreme radical on most issues in the 90s because the country wouldn't have tolerated it. But Bill Clinton ran as a blue dog Democrat in 1992 election, he won his one. He's an awful person. He should be in jail for obviously what he did. With Epstein, but it's a fact that his president, he was rather center left. He was not like Biden, who was just full Lenin. He's not like Obama, who was full far to the left. And Bill Clinton tried to warn the Hillary Clinton campaign, hey, hill, hill dog, will you give me a call back? This whole Trump thing actually might have some power to it. And he was probably just told you. Just go back to Jeffrey's island, Bill. And he was like, all right, fine, I don't care. It's like all the same. You don't talk to me anyway. And Bill Clinton was right. Bill Clinton had repeated warnings where he tried to tell the Democrat party in 2016 that Donald Trump could break the matrix, but you see Democrats fell for a logical fallacy things have always been a certain way. Therefore, they're always going to be a certain way. And mccomb county and Mahoney county and all these traditional Democrat white working class counties completely and totally flipped. And it's been Republicans have continued that trend a certain extent. They have somewhat struggled to do it at the same level or numbers as Donald Trump did. And then with the Democrats saw those, they said, okay, we're going to lose rural white working class voters or these not always rural, but these kind of, let's just say 50,000 to a 100,000 person towns, of which Ohio has plenty of which Indiana has plenty, of which Michigan has plenty of those middle class, they usually have like two or three core industries there, whether it be steel or iron ore extraction or refrigerator assembly or something. And those industries have been depleted or re domiciled completely, and there's a memory of what those places used to be. And Donald Trump came in and said it's wrong what happened to you, I'm going to go about fixing it and that was very, very powerful as political dynamite. But the Democrats are tired of doing that. They've gone all in on 1619 politics. Which we call woke, we call all these different things. And the people of east Palestinian Ohio are getting a clear message from the American Democrat party. We don't need you and we don't care about you, by the way. This is a really cruel way to govern. You should not make decisions of who actually gets help just based on whether or not they voted for you. Donald Trump never did that. Donald Trump helped extract prisoners from other countries that hated him. Literally, remember Lonzo Ball, what did that guy LaMelo Ball? I can't remember the names. Lamar lamella, whatever. With that father who can't keep his mouth shut, he got him out of China, never got any credit for that. Donald Trump governed for what was best for America. Donald Trump tried to do more for the black community, even the black community rarely supported him. Is it lavar ball? Yeah..

Biden Blasted for Visiting Ukraine Instead of East Palestine, Ohio
"Welcome back to America first. Thanks very much to Benjamin. Now somebody has written various tomes on various American presidents from an apolitical perspective. Could you just react to the idea of an American president going to another nation in a war zone albeit like Kyiv and Ukraine at a time when politics is so divisive at home and people are suffering in the east Palestine, Ohio. What are the presidential optics of this like? I have to say, and you and your listeners would know, I tended to be highly critical of this president, but I think he was right to go. And I commend him for going. I think it is hyperbole to compare it to the most publicized visits of president Kennedy and president Reagan to western Berlin. And they were outstanding speakers and mister Biden is not. But I think I would defend him on the charge of going there when there are bad things in the United States and I think it's a scandal that he has not gone to east Palestine, Ohio. But you can do both, you know. But on president's day on premises, is there something a little bit piquant about him going on president's day? I thought that was maybe I'm being naive, but I thought that was more or less of an accent. I mean, it just a scheduling thing. The fact that he went on president's day, I wouldn't read a great deal into that. I mean, it's as good a day as any other to go. And there's no reason that a president can't be out of the country on that day. And presidents do travel and part of their mandate is to uphold the American position in the world and defend American national interests in the world. And

Trish Shreds Biden for Not Going to See the People of Ohio
"Is the biggest mistake of Joe Biden's career. What he has just done going to Ukraine instead of going to visit the people of east Palestine, Ohio. I'm sorry, but this is a guy that is also he is no substance. That's the way he's always been. And why should we ever expect anything more? Consider his dramatic exit out of Afghanistan, which was absolutely deadly, absolutely awful, poorly planned, but he demanded it. And for some reason he also demanded to go to Ukraine, rather than bother with the environmental disaster going on, right here at home. I mean, he wouldn't even send Pete, right? He wouldn't even send his secretary of transportation, not until now. Not until now, and oh, everyone's got an excuse for that, right? Here's Pete's. In retrospect, should you have come a little sooner? So again, in terms of the timing of the visit, I'm trying to strike the right balance, allowing NTSB to play its role, but making sure we're here in that show of support. Leave it to the Democrats to have tons of bureaucracy to get in the way of actually helping people.

"Get cut number two with some classic Trump? But we're going to find time to come back if necessary. If they don't come back and give you the treatment that you need, we will be back. The Biden administration should ensure that every family has the option of moving and homes and everything else until this thing is straightened out. I do want to especially thank some of the incredible people that helped us because we're bringing thousands of bottle of water Trump water, actually. Most of it, some of it we had to go to a much lesser quality water. You want to get those Trump bottles, I think, more than anybody else. But we're bringing a lot of water. I've been criticized because I'm a rhino, and I love Soros, and all rhinos because I criticize Donald Trump. And I criticize Donald Trump because he screws up a lot. Okay? His ham handed attacks on Ron DeSantis, are ridiculous and embarrassing. But I praise him when he does the right thing. And this was huge.

"What to know about Pete Buttigieg's visit to east Palestine. By many racker. Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg visited east palestin, Ohio, on Thursday. Nearly three weeks after a disastrous train derailment released toxic chemicals into the air and forced hundreds of residents to evacuate. His stop follows Donald Trump's Wednesday visit during which the former president criticized the Biden administration's response to the accident and lambasted president Joe Biden for not yet visiting himself. Buttigieg's trip is the latest development in a crisis that has quickly become a political fight, pitting the Biden administration and Buttigieg against critics that include Trump and other prominent Republican officials. Here's what to know about the transportation secretary's trip to east Palestinian and his handling of the train derailment. What did Buttigieg stew in east Palestine? Buttigieg was scheduled to meet with community members, talk with investigators who were present in the immediate aftermath of the derailment, and here the latest on the investigation into the accident. On Thursday morning, the national transportation safety board released a preliminary report, which highlighted a wheel bearing that overheated ahead of the accident. Wearing a hard hat on a safety vest, Buttigieg talked with experts at the site of the derailment. He tweeted a photo of himself there, as well as several photos of himself engaged in other conversations, along with the message, I'm amazed by the resilience and decency of the people of east Palestine after meeting them here and visiting the wreck site. We will never forget about them, and we will continue our actions to ensure safety and accountability. Speaking to reporters, Buttigieg called on Trump to support reinstating rail regulations that his administration slashed. He also said he wished he had weighed in on the crisis sooner while claiming he was trying to strike the right balance in terms of timing for his visit. Confronted by reporters pressing him about his delay in visiting east Palestinian, Buttigieg walked away, while a spokesperson refused to answer questions on camera. What has Buttigieg been criticized for? Critics have slammed Buttigieg for not visiting east Palestine sooner. He did not publicly address the accident until ten days after it occurred, even as some Democrats called him him to take action. Meanwhile, many of the administration's critics claimed that the federal government was not doing enough oversight either before or after the incident. The Biden administration hadn't tried to revive a rail breaking regulation scrapped during the Trump presidency, and after the accident, federal and state officials assured residents they could return home, even as they reported respiratory symptoms and dead animal sightings. Buttigieg maintained in recent weeks that he would visit when the time was right. He announced the timing of his Thursday trip on the same day Trump was in Ohio, and shortly after the Environmental Protection Agency began its transition from an emergency response to a long-term one. Happy to discuss timing of our Ohio visit, but starting to think some in Washington want that to be the main focus so that there aren't too many questions about rail safety regulation, who is for and who is against. Buttigieg tweeted on Wednesday night. Last week, senator Marco Rubio, a Republican from Florida, sent a letter to Biden, alleging Buttigieg has ignored transportation crises throughout his tenure and calling on the president to request his resignation. He wrote that Buttigieg was slow to acknowledge this month's derailment and was deflecting accountability for rail safety. The White House has continued to stand behind Buttigieg. And a call would reporters on Monday, Buttigieg accused Rubio of previously signing a letter that was pretty obviously drafted by industry, calling on us to weaken our practices around track inspection. Buttigieg and Rubio then exchanged words on Twitter, Rubio accused Buttigieg of being missing in action and lying about the letter, which the senator said called for more inspections. He is an incompetent who is focused solely on his fantasies about his political future and needs to be fired. Rubio tweeted. The facts don't lie. Buttigieg responded, the 2021 letter you signed was obviously drafted by railroad industry lobbyists. It supports waivers that would reduce visual track inspections. According to The Washington Post, inspection logistics mean neither is lying exactly. What has the federal government done in response to the derailment? The federal emergency management agency was not able to provide disaster relief funds due to a law that prevents the derailment from being classified as a major disaster. However, the agency did announce late last week that it was sending personnel to help handle the response. The administration has said that officials from the Department of Transportation, the NTSB, the Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Disease Control have been on site as well. The NTSB has been leading an investigation into the derailment. The EPA, meanwhile, has helped monitor air and water quality following the accident and assisted with cleanup. EPA administrator Michael S Regan first visited the site of the derailment last week, meeting with residents and officials and.

"Was in Ohio today and said he's focused on making regulatory changes to prevent future incidents. Challenging his critics to support the same. If the same people who want to come here and play political games are the same people who sided with industry again and again and again and watered down rail regulations again and again and again. I want to see where they've had an actual change of heart or not. And if they had a change of heart, I'll take them at their word and we can get work done. Now again, it's not entirely clear that any specific deregulations that occurred in the Trump Pence administration would have prevented this from happening if indeed they had not occurred. That is not clear yet that the sort of argument that the Biden administration continues to make publicly. Though they do so broadly, rather than very specifically. Buttigieg did offer that there's one thing that he thinks Donald Trump could do to help. One thing he could do is express support for reversing the deregulation that happened on his watch. I heard him say he had nothing to do with it, even though it was in his administration. So if you have nothing to do with it and they did it in his administration against his will. Maybe he could come out and say that he supports us moving in a different direction. Buttigieg is calling on Congress to make it easier for the transportation department to institute safety reforms. And as you know, Democrats and Republicans very often disagree when it comes to government regulations, but this incident in east Palestinian has propelled some Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill to press the Biden administration on whether there's enough oversight to keep rail workers and communities near railroads safe. Experts have pointed out several proposals that could possibly be put in place like updating trains breaking systems, shortening the lengths of freight trains, further separating cars with hazardous material, requiring more crew members be on board and increasing the cost of penalties, but these are a lot of proposals that have been around for decades, and have either been watered down or eliminated in large part, thanks to lobbyists or a lack of bipartisan congressional will. That's it for today's political briefing. Thanks so much for listening. And if you like the show, please consider rating and reviewing us on Apple podcasts. We'll talk to you tomorrow. "CNN political briefing. Here's what you need to know in politics for Thursday, February 23rd. Residents of east palestin, Ohio, and the surrounding areas are dealing with the aftermath of a trained railman that led to the release of toxic materials earlier this month. And now, they find themselves stuck in the middle of yet another partisan political brawl. So much of the politics surrounding this toxic train derailment are performative in nature. And that is often the case in our current partisan political culture. And sometimes, more often than not, it gets in the way of actual real solutions. And that's what's needed here in east Palestinian right now. So I wanted to start there and bring you some voices from east Palestinian. CNN convened a really informative town hall on Wednesday night and it was incredibly insightful for anyone watching to hear from voices in that community. Who are seeking accountability and assistance and some kind of explanation. Ohio officials continue to say that the air quality and water tests in the town show no dangerous levels of chemicals. But some locals just aren't buying that. They are worried about ongoing health problems, which they say flared up after the derailment. My son has had what he knows is every day. I've had some skin issues. The sore throat, the irritated nose, the headaches, I've been dizzy. Now remember, there was this train carrying hazardous chemicals, and when it derailed, there were initial fires and explosions, if you will. But then there was a deliberate controlled explosion to burn off the toxic chemicals to try and prevent an even worse disaster. That led to a days long inferno. Today, nearly three weeks after the incident, a preliminary report from the national transportation safety board was released and the board's chair, Jennifer Hammond, said this incident was preventable. We call things accidents, there is no accident. Every single event that we investigate is preventable. So our hearts are with you. As for the Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw, last night on CNN, he apologized to residents for the disaster, he promised to reimburse them and to implement changes to prevent this from ever happening again. None of that stopped some residents from giving him a piece of their minds. I'm angry about this. I lived in east Powell fee for 65 years now. That's my home. You burned me. We were going to sell our House. Our value went poof. I lost everything now. One local resident, Jessica Conrad, was making a plea to everyone watching. That this isn't just about one small town on the Pennsylvania Ohio border. If you have a train near you or a waterway near you, this is a problem for you too. So stand up, stand with us. And we're going to fight until the promises are kept. Again, it's not uncommon for political actors to seize where they see potential political opportunity. And as we discussed in the podcast yesterday, Donald Trump made this an example of a contrast with Joe Biden, so the former president who's running for president again clearly saw an opening, a political opening for him to go and express solidarity with a community that overwhelmingly supported him politically in his last two elections, and where Joe Biden, the current sitting president, had not yet come to visit. Now he also donated some money for needed resources in the community. And he made sure to thank first responders and the like in addition to expressing some sympathy with those folks going through all that pain and he's Palestinian. But a candidate for president doesn't show up unless they see some potential upside for them politically, and that's what Donald Trump saw here as well. Former vice president Mike Pence, who may be eventually running against his former boss for the Republican nomination in 2024. He had no problem with President Biden going to Kyiv like some Republicans criticized his problem was that President Biden didn't get to east Palestine first. Here was Pence on Fox News. I would have gone to east Palestine before I went to Kyiv. It really is remarkable when you think about the fact that it's going to be three weeks since that train derailment. All the hardship that those families in east Palestinian face before even the secretary of transportation shows up. White House press secretary Jean Pierre did not today confirm any plans for Biden to visit east Palestine, but did say that the president is satisfied with the federal government's response. So yes, the president is certainly, again, staying update updated on what is occurring on the ground, but also appreciative of the work that his multi agencies have been doing over the past several weeks. In addition to Biden coming in for some criticism, his transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg has been getting some criticism for not showing up earlier to east Palestinian as well. And of course, Pete Buttigieg is somebody who considers himself and is widely seen in democratic circles as somebody with a bright political future. So it is interesting to watch how he navigates this moment.

"And then he was asked about mayor Pete's criticism of the Trump administration. It's criticism of you pulling back rail regulations. Do you think you would have nothing to do with it? No, he's got to work on the airport. So we've never had airports like this. We're like a third world nation. And this is an example of the breakdown. All breaking our whole country is breaking down. And he's really got to look at the airports because I have people that are taking planes and they end up delayed. They're waiting at an airport for three days. It's crazy what's happening. Are you shocked? He hasn't come here yet? No, he should have been here a long time. We have boot edge edge. You know, you call them foot edge edge. That's the way. He's just the whole president Trump saying the whole country is breaking down. It does feel that way, doesn't it? You think that's realistic? But at least the people of east Palestine got some comfort yesterday from president Trump. Here is one of the residents of east Palestinian on with Laura Ingraham last night on Fox News. And I feel like Trump's presence today helped reassure them that, you know, they do care, they have not been forgotten about. And it definitely helped lift the spirits and give people some peace of mind. Knowing that people know who we are and what's going on around here. And well, you know what, a president not showing up, it kind of did the opposite, and that was that's what was causing a lot of the neglect and the feelings of doubt and fear. Wow, when Trump says the country is breaking down. You think he's right. 806 5 5 mic. You think, do you feel that same way? Or do you believe he is exaggerating? "Force one probably watching this after this trip where he came to Eastern Europe to show the world that NATO stands strong, but on his way up the stairs, the president did slip for a moment, losing his balance above on Air Force One staircase. He is, okay, as far as we know, and this shouldn't be too big of a distraction from the point of this trip, which was to make NATO look as tough as possible to Russia and China who appear to be teaming up in Ukraine. I mean, it's better than the last time he went up the stairs and fell down when he fell down like three times going up the stairs. So I guess that's a gradual improvement. We're going to need an elevator for this guy. I think it's probably the solution. Well, Politico is reporting. Biden may not run, top Democrats are quietly preparing. That there is no plan B I'm sorry, there's no plan B, they have to run him. They do not have a choice. They will prop them upright, they will infuse him with whatever taxidermist skill they have. And then they will just put them around. And that'll be that. He'll look like one of the weird stuffed humans in the original Planet of the Apes, and they will just be wheeling him around to campaign stops and they'll play like a recording. Well, how I got tape recorder back here. I was like, and then put them back in the train and go on. Politico is wish casting here to say, Joe Biden's closest adviser to spend months preparing him to formally announce his reelection campaign. But the president is still not ready to make the plunge. A sense of doubt is creeping into conversations around 2024. What if he decides not to. Now, the kind of going wisdom is the only reason that he would decide not to run is if he actually believes that Trump is not going to get it's not going to get the nomination. In other words, he likes running against Trump because he won last time and he thinks he would win this time against Trump. Now, number one, that is no sure thing by any stretch of the imagination. Number two, it is quite possible that Trump does not get the nomination. Ron DeSantis has continued to make very strong moves in the state of Florida that are setting a real groundwork for loyalty from a lot of Trump's base. The polls right now show that individual matchups in a wide variety of primary states desantis may be outpacing Trump. Now, again, Trump has that solid 25% floor. He ain't going below 25% in any primary. That's a pretty good place to be if the primary vote split 7 ways from Sunday. I don't think that's what's going to happen in the Republican primaries. I think this is essentially already a two person race between desantis and Trump, even though desantis is not yet declared. According to breitbart, over the last couple of days, there have been a couple of bills that have been proposed in the Florida state legislature that would ban mandatory diversity equity and inclusion statements from the hiring and tenure processes in higher education. So again, Ron DeSantis and the Florida legislature are doing yeoman's work in the state of Florida. I love the state of Florida, obviously. The legislation would require that public colleges establish an office of public policy events that office would seek to foster debates and discourse on campus, legislation is part of a broader attempt to reform higher education in the state of Florida and cut out the DEI and critical race fury agenda. All of this is quite good. Meanwhile, desantis and it's handling in the media, I have to say it is about pitch perfect. It is really, really good. So you'll recall that Andrea Mitchell the other day lied about Ron DeSantis. She said that it was impossible to teach slavery in the state of Florida. She said you couldn't teach slavery. You couldn't teach about black history in the state of Florida. Oh, that was predicated on Ron DeSantis saying that he did not accept the advanced placement courses that included in African American history like queer theory and critical race theory and all the rest of this mumbo jumbo garbage. So obviously you can still teach all of this stuff and do tea and it is mandated that you teach slavery and black history in the United States in high school classes in every school in Florida. All that is actually mandated. Andrea Mitchell lied about that. She said that you couldn't teach any of those things. And then she claimed that she was imprecise in her description. But it wasn't being precise she lied, which prompted Brian Griffin, who is a press secretary for desantis to respond to MSNBC attempts to book desantis with this letter quote. I think we need to take a step back. There will be no consideration of anything related to NBCUniversal or its affiliates until and at least Andrew Mitchell corrects this blatant lie she made about the governor, the direct quote was desantis says slavery in the aftermath of slavery should not be taught to Florida schoolchildren. NBC and affiliates display a consistent track record of truthful reporting. That's what we need in order for desantis to appear on your network. Please feel free to pass this up and around the network sincerely. Brian Griffin, press secretary. That happens to be absolutely correct, and that's exactly how every Republican candidate should treat the left wing press. If you're going to lie about me, I'm not coming on your shows. There's no reason for me to come about on your shows. When you overtly lie, and then when you're crawled down, is I was imprecise. Again, the problem wasn't that Andrea Mitchell was imprecise, that she was incredibly precise and lying. That, in fact, is the big problem.

"Promo code Shapiro for 35% off your first preferred order. So The White House is trying to blame Trump for the east Palestinian derailment. They put out a statement yesterday, suggesting that it was because of the rail lobbyists gunning all of the regulations from the Obama Biden rail safety protections back in 2016, 2017. It turns out that is not true at all. All of the Obama era regulations did not apply to this particular train. Now, here's the reality. In a country of 340 million people, that spans an entire continent, bad stuff is going to happen. That's just going to happen. There is no system of government regulation that is going to prevent all bad things from happening. The question is the response. And this is why Biden is going to get blamed. It's why Buttigieg is going to get blamed. If they had been on the ground immediately providing resources and explaining to the cameras, it was a serious situation. They were taking it seriously. They wouldn't be getting the kind of heat that they're getting today. Instead trying to blame Trump for regulations in 2017. The calendar is now 2023. Joe Biden has been president for more than two years at this point. You don't get to blame the last guy for a train disaster that happened on your watch. That is not the way any of that works. That dog is just not going to hunt. So meanwhile, the media, I'm honestly amazed and amused at how the media may have just let Donald Trump legally off the hook. It's kind of hilarious. So they have been for years for literally years begging for an indictment of Donald Trump. Since he was president of the United States, like right after it, they were like, we should invite him for treason, man. And then we should incite him for corruption. And then it was, well, there's an investigation in New York, and then investigation New York will totally get him. And there's an investigation in Washington D.C., and there's one in Georgia, and that will totally get him. Well, finally, they thought they had their man. They thought they had their man. Because there were some grand jury indictments that were handed down. The grand jury recommended a series of indictments in Georgia surrounding a Fulton county investigation into post election interference by Trump. You remember, there was this phone call between Trump and Brad raffensperger. Again, all this has been public knowledge for literally years at this point. He called the Brad raffensperger who was the Secretary of State of Georgia, and he said, man, I want you to find me 11,250 three. However many votes it was. That would put him over the top. And that could have been read in one of two ways, either as Trump saying I want you to manufacture out of thin air, these votes so I win the state or I think that it's pretty obvious that fraud occurred in Georgia and let's be real about this. I won the state. All I need to win the state is this many and you know that there were that many fraudulent votes at least. That's what I'm looking at. So the first thing looks like election interference. The second thing looks more like Trump spouting off. My theory of Donald Trump is always the Donald Trump is spouting off because Donald Trump is always spouting off. That is always seemed like a significantly more accurate take on who Trump is as a human being and then Trump is sitting there meticulously with like an abacus figuring out how many votes need to be moved from one side to the other and how many need to be created. I don't think that level of forethought goes into nearly anything that president Trump does. Okay, put that aside. There's a grand jury investigation into this whole thing. And there were a bunch of indictments that were theoretically going to come down from the district attorney Fannie Willis. Well, now, because the media could not get enough of this case, they may have just destroyed the possibility of any indictments of Trump in the Georgia case. Why? Well, because there is a grand jury four woman named Emily kors. Who decided that she was going to appear on the media. And the media could not get enough of her. And let me just make this clear. She is a super weirdo. Emily CORS. Apparently, Emily kors is a wiccan or something, and her appearance on her appearance on national television is super strange. According to the daily mail, the Georgia grand jury four woman who laughed about bringing down former president Trump has a wacky Pinterest page with collections of pinned magic spells and all things witchy. Always a good look. Showing once again that the problem with the jury system is that it relies on people who are too stupid to avoid jury duty. Emily course has been a media tour that has already causing headaches for prosecutors after she giggled during a televised interview with MSNBC when she said she kind of wanted to subpoena Trump just to get the chance to swim in apparently. Many of her social media accounts have been deleted, but her Pinterest page remains, with several collections of pins, dedicated to wicca and witchcraft. What now? She has a collection of pins dedicated to wicca and witchcraft. What do you even get those? They make those eggs Pinterest page. I guess you make those yourself. Is there a line of, I got to tell you, comparative advantage is an amazing thing. Capitalism can still find pins for Wiccans. Some of the pins apparently give instructions for magic spells, others list herbs and other supplies for the spells. And as you would imagine, a person who has that sort of stuff on her Pinterest page is a giant weirdo. So she was asked on CNN. About the list of indictments, the grand jury is going to bring down. And she starts giggling very oddly like a bizarre movie villain. Here we go. Is it, would you say when it comes to there are, there are indictments recommended, of course. Is it more than the camels of people? Is it more than 20 people? I think if you look at the page numbers of the report, there's about 6 pages in the middle that got cut out. Allow for spacing, it's not a short list. Not a short list. When it comes to 75 witnesses, I assume, of course, is about 75 people. Would you characterize it as 20 ish people? What's happening? I can't say I counted. Okay. More than a dozen, though, I think I heard you say in another interview. What in the world? I believe so. Oh, I very system is rude. Wow. Okay, wow. The camera is here. I talked to a camera every day. When you talk to a camera, look into the camera as a general rule. That was like that Winona Ryder clip from the Emmy several years ago where she's looking around bizarrely in the middle of the Emmys and turned into a meme with all of these complex equations and she's kind of looking across you could easily do that with that same exact clip. You just got the eyebrow going. That's so weird. I'm sorry she's a weirdo. That's so straight. My favorite thing about that is that you know how somebody has made the jury foreperson is the other people in the jury are like that one. How? How is this the person in the room where everyone in the room is like, she's got to be the four person. Qualified. She does cast spells, guys. What did she do? Did she create a did she take out like a witch's pot? And she's like, guys, unless you make me the jury four person, I'm gonna boil this frog, kill this cat spill, it's blood in there. Mix it with a little bit of turmeric, and then put it on your head and you yourself will turn it into a Llama. Like, what exactly did she do to get the jury for a person role? Because what the what? What is happening? I have more. I have more from the grand jury four person who, again, the media couldn't help but have her on. And in doing so, they completely tainted every jury pool in the state of Georgia. So just slow clap for the media so eager to get Trump and to cover from, that they may have just prevented an indictment of Trump. Like just genius level stuff there. Whoo. Get to that in a second to have a good time with the grand jury four person here in Georgia. Speaking of good times, you need to preserve your family's memories of all of your good times with legacy box.

"Listen to listen to what he did with this daily caller woman. Secretary, what do you have to say? Hi, how are you? Jenny shared with the daily caller news foundation. What do you have to say to the folks in Ohio east Palestine who are suffering right now? But refer you to about a dozen interviews I've given today and if you'd like to arrange a conversation. We don't have a message for them. I do, and I shared it with the press many times today I'd refer you to those comments. Do you mind sharing it with us? No, I'm going to refer you to the comments that I made to the press because right now I'm taking some personal time and I'm walking down the street. Are you going down there? What's up? Are you going down there at all? Yep. When are you going? I'll share that when I'm ready for that. Thank you. Yeah. Now at the end there, eclipse a little bit, but at the end, he has stopped when she asked when are you going? You can see he pulls his phone out of his pocket and he's pulling up his camera app and he stops and he squares off facing her directly and says at the end, it's a little hard to hear because of the way that was edited. But you have to, can I take your picture? Can I take a picture of you? And she says, yes. Of course. And she later tweeted out how peculiar that was. And she said to him, almost pleadingly, I'm just doing my job. Wonder why I wanted to take her picture. I mean, that's fairly intimidating, right? I guess you have a right to take anybody's picture and I think Pete Buttigieg has a right to walk down the street without being hassled. I believe that about Republicans, I believe that is Democrats as well. But this is fairly catastrophic. For mayor Pete. And if there is a silver lining here and correct me if I'm wrong, seems to me, mayor Pete won't be a presidential candidate anytime soon. "Right away, and that was something that was unfailing. After 9 11, I remember Tom von essen, who's a family friend. I love the guy. He was just a wonderful and commanding leader in New York City. He was the fire commissioner. During 9 11, in New York City. Every funeral, comforting every family. You know how many men he lost? But that's what's expected of good leaders. Pete Buttigieg is not a good leader. This guy is not a good example of a competent transportation secretary in a field, this is an area that this country desperately needs help with. A thousand train derailments a year who knew that happened. That was mayor Pete's attempt to deflect his responsibility when he was asked about this. He said, well, you know, there's a lot of train derailments. There's over a thousand a year. We checked it. It's true? And I've since seen videos on social media of trains, it looks like something from some third world country where they're barely able to go down the tracks. They're wobbling and vibrating, tracks your torn up. There's another train derailment the other day. A thousand a year is three a day. I wonder how many billions of dollars we're giving to Ukraine could help keep trains on the tracks. I don't know, just a thought, here is Buttigieg asked about the very poor response by the transportation department to this train derailment in east Ohio. What's your message to people who are concerned that the department was late to speak out on this issue? They're saying that transportation and EPA was late to the game and speaking out in responding to the situation in east Palestinian. Well, to be clear, our department was on the ground within hours, helping with the response and the investigation. Again, I respect the separate role of NTSB, but we have been on the ground literally from day one to make sure that we're doing our part to support. I do think that it's important to speak out about that. And I could have spoken out sooner and I'm making sure that we are focused on the actions that are going to make a difference. Now, the takeaway headline from that, that was incidentally Rashad Hudson from Nexstar interviewing mayor Pete. And he's defensive and he's saying I should have spoken out sooner about how we were on the ground right away. Your the transportation secretary. The rails are under your purview. When you were mayor, I'll bet you showed up for things. You know, even mayor of South Bend, here, and here he was with George Stephanopoulos, talking about his role as the mayor of South Bend, Indiana. The administration has come under some fire for its response to the mayor of east Palestine and has said it took nearly two weeks for The White House to contact and there were shouts of where's Pete Buttigieg at a town hall meeting last week. What's your response to that? When are you going to go to east palestin? Well, I am planning to go. And our folks were on the ground from the first hours. I do want to stress that the NTSB needs to be able to do its work independently. But when I go, the focus is going to be on action. Look, I was mayor of my hometown for 8 years. We dealt with a lot of disasters, natural and human. And one of the things I noticed very quickly is that there's two kinds of people who show up when you have that kind of disaster experience. People who are there because they have a specific job to do and are there to get something done. And people who are there to look good and have their picture taken. When I go, it will be about action on rail safety, like the actions that we are calling on Congress to help us with, that we're calling on industry to take, and that we are undertaking ourselves as a department to help make sure that these kinds of things don't happen in the future..

"All right, so you go to this east Ohio east Palestine, Ohio, location. And if you guys have gone online, I tweeted it out. You can find it at the Carl Jackson show on Twitter, where senator JD Vance literally took a stick to a stream that was running through Palestinian Ohio and he started out up a little bit and you could literally see the toxins just float up to the top it was disgusting. There was another video of a young lady to throw a rock into thank you guys. Through a rock into a stream and the same thing you could see the toxins just rise to the top of the string. You're telling me that water or those chemicals haven't seeped into the ground, given the fact that you have to stir the water up or you throw a rock. I don't think whales are safe. Listen, I wouldn't be drinking water in palestin, Ohio. Biden didn't show up, Pete Buttigieg didn't show up to transportation, secretary. Here's what the governor of Ohio Mike dewine said, by the way, Mike dewine, in my opinion, I wish you guys would have voted for someone else, all right? He's a Republican, no doubt about it, but he is pretty much as moderate as they come. And I think the only reason he won reelection is simply because he said, listen, concealed carry, are constitutional carry in Ohio and everybody was like, yeah, yeah, yeah. And they didn't worry about, I mean, he's just a horrible governor. He's not a leader by any stretch of the imagination. But here's what he had to say. The U.S. EPA and Ohio EPA have been working together since day one. They have. They've been doing a horrible job governor Mike dewine. Also, Thomas civic of fema at the same thing. They released a joint statement. They said tomorrow fema was supplement federal efforts, local residents have harshly criticized both the slow response of the state and federal government. Then they did obviously this controlled release and burn of the materials for the 150 car Norfolk Southern freight train released a mentally air to avoid a major explosion, but by doing that, they killed thousands of fish sick and pets and wildlife. I watched this guy that had basically his own personal zoo of foxes in the foxes were looking like they were about to die. It was unbelievable. All right, so there's serious health risks to all of these 5000 residents. And the reason why Biden and Pete Buttigieg didn't show up is their white. It's as simple as that. They're white working class Americans and the Biden administration can't stand them. Those aren't their people. They're Americans. They like Americans. They like America, right? Those aren't Biden's people. There's no political advantage or at least at least the Biden administration thought to go to Palestinian Ohio. There's no

Congressman, I also want to bring your attention to this surprise visit that Biden made to Ukraine. And we just had congressman Bill Johnson who actually represents east Palestinian Ohio. He said this is really a slap in the face. The president won't go to east Palestinian, but he'll hop on Air Force One and head over to Ukraine. Yeah, it's very telling, isn't it? America will ask Ukraine first in the Biden administration. You have Americans who are suffering and you have the ability from this administration to help them through fema to help them through the Department of Transportation to deal with the issues that the ohioans are dealing with in east Palestine. And he flies to Ukraine to give them another $500 million of our taxpayer dollars to bring it up to over a $110 billion that we have given to Ukraine for this endless war against Russia. And that's more than the annual budget of Florida. So to run the government of Florida, the transportation, all of that in Florida at the state level. It's right at that same level, the amount of money that we've given to Ukraine. So it shows the priorities of this administration. They don't care about the southern border. They don't care about the safety and security of the American people. They don't care about our number one adversary is taking surveillance balloons over our country. They care more about going to Ukraine and giving them more money than helping people who are in serious need right there in east palestin. Well, congressman, we're going to leave it there. Yeah, you know, I think that's reflective of the attitude of this administration, the secretary of transportation has not been here. The president has not been here. They're finding anything and everything else to do, except come to our little town that has been devastated by this by this train crash. Is this a slap in the face from the administration? I mean, if this had happened in New York or LA or Chicago or New Orleans, someplace big blue city, they'd be all over it..
