"I thought it would be engaging and also kind of a brain break issue. Some classic piece of art like chili's venus or something like that us that one when we start talking about certain aspects of the female reproductive system and In you know in explained that who painted it and what era it came from what the symbolism is because a lot of art in different eras of styles have symbolism Explained that symbolism and how it relates to what we're gonna be talking about and then move on in you know what i've had students and this is more than one student. I swear his have run into him later and they said me by doing that. It made me more interested in what was going on with some of that art and i remembered some of it in art history when i took art history and some even said. That's why took art history. Might my fine arts option is because of the things that you did with that. And i'm thinking whoa this is get a commission from the east department or something. But that's cool that that's helping them crossover because we hear so much information about how that helps for students to do that. That crossing over of concepts among different disciplines and they can see how the humanities relate to the sciences. When we do that sort of thing. Another kind of of title slide you might wanna do. Is some current news story that relates to the topic. You're about to get into or some recent scientific discovery that has been made. You can talk about that and say okay and we're going to be talking about this science now in this part of the story so my advice is to use a title slide into us that is an engaging transition into a new topic and not just a sharp sudden kind of alarming. Just jump okay. Now we're done with that are starting this and oh man. We need kind of a moment to gather our breath at. Oh look at that painting. That is kind of cool. I can't like that. Or i relate that or whatever and.

"Today in San Francisco and Oversight Committee is holding a hearing to address the unsafe living conditions of a public housing complex. In the Western addition For years, people living in the Plaza East departments have raised several issues among them leaky pipes, rotting floors in electrical fires. Nina's Far Ling has been following this closely for the San Francisco public Press. So, Nina, why has this apartment complex been in rough shape for so long? That's a really good question that doesn't have a super straightforward answer. The developer, a company called McCormack, Baron Salazar. Says the company has put off needed repairs and maintenance because they can't afford to pay for them. But some of the documents that I found over the past couple months actually pointed to faults in the original construction. Like under sized sewer system, which is likely contributed to some of the routine kind of plumbing and flooding issues that I've heard about many times from residents in the city and this developer sought a solution. Asked the federal government for approval to demolish and rebuild the complex. So what happened there? Simply put that in that original application had found that the developer had overestimated the costs of fixing Plaza East by about $16.5 million. So had basically said This math doesn't add up. You need to go back to the drawing board. And McCormack, Baron Salazar and the San Francisco Housing Authority will still apply for federal funding to rehabilitate the property. And what that exactly looks like is very much to be determined and Is the subject of ongoing negotiations. I'm told now, through all of this people still live at Plaza East. What are they saying about this decision from HUD? Residents are still living in posit yeast, and they are still dealing with really tough situations. I've heard stories about floods that have happened just in the past month. The one thing that I have heard pretty uniformly across the board is that Residents wanna be involved in that process. They want to have a say and what the future of their community looks like. The city's government Accountability and Oversight Committee is holding this hearing later this morning about the state of these apartments. What could come from this hearing. So Supervisor Dean Preston, who is the supervisor, whose district includes Plaza East called the hearing early last month. And what I've heard from him and his office is that They really want to understand more about how the property got to be in the condition it's in, but also really to push for more transparency and the ongoing redevelopment plans and Toe to really push for resident involvement. Nina Sparling tracking this situation for the San Francisco public Press. Thanks so much for talking to us. Thanks, Brian. You're listening to morning edition on KQED. "You know boots on the ground, so to speak first responder, but also the ability to have multiple lights and staff that are available to assist and respond in scenarios with Baker acts and March, Max. And as you and the CP Police department know better than I do. Some of these calls that could seem like they're not necessarily going to be violent or Escalate to a situation where the person responding could end up in danger. Some of the people, especially with certain mental health issues, things can escalate quickly and they can become violent. That's where I was worried about the community liaisons. But if law enforcement is with them with this initial rollout that seems to make a lot of sense to make Absolutely, and you know Are are con center reviews and that's called That's something that they've always done. You know, we do have you know that type of information, and we also will be, um, you know, quite conservative as we roll out the program with against sending out calls for different types within those calls categories that I mentioned before again. We want this program to be successful. We want this program to be Beneficial in our community, and and we do We feel that this really makes ah, large difference to allow train human services, professional toe, do the good work that they do. I'm joined by Megan McGee, Special projects manager at the same People East Department. We're talking about their new program, community assistance and life liaisons or call for this first phase. This initial rollout of the program. Let's say there is a call. It's a mental health related call. You have the officer and you have the community liaison going out together. Like you said, who takes the lead? Once they arrive on the scene. Is it initially going to be the police officer and then their community liaison will be there to assist or will it be the other way around? How is that going to work? We really want to let the experts do the good work that they do so absolutely in a scenario of the mental health call, um, that they would respond together, But as far as kind of leading the call we we do want them to have that increased responsibility. To be able to handle those types of calls. I'm assuming and correct me if I'm wrong within the same people this department, this program is likely pretty popular because you have somebody else dealing with certain issues on these calls that they're just better equipped to deal with than our police. What the community response to it. Was this an idea that came out of the protests and all of that In the summer of 2020 the discussions between the community and the police department as it had a lot of initial support on that front, right? Well, you know, the The idea and kind of the building of this program. You know, Some of the pieces were already in place before some of the you know some of the activities and demonstrations over the summer, both locally and nationally. Um You know, our chief of police is a big proponent of community policing, which, um, looks at ways to, um, you know, partner with the community, create relationships and not just be solely on enforcement. Um, I mentioned the path unit, which is the the police unit. That call will be embedded with And again just the creation of a unit is that was on a several years ago, and that was kind of an innovative idea that that she's had to be able to respond to homeless related issues in a different way, you know and again, not have this ongoing cycle of You know, arrest and then you know, back on the street being able to try to provide services transport to shelter things like that. So we had pieces of it already kind of in place, and we had also Aren't really looking at calls that we were receiving that weren't police matters. You know, somebody's child didn't want to go to school. Um, you know, Somebody you know, had a knish you with the laundry mat. They didn't get their quarters out way were we were starting to look at. You know what is the best way? You know, toe deploy our officers in a way that is truly in line with public safety, So I would say some of those decisions were certainly already occurring. But, you know, I think, certainly as a as an organization and the great work that are the men and women of the police department. Do this is something for the most part, I think has been completely welcome because Um, you know they are trained. They are good at what they do, but this is not the job that they signed up to do. They are not trying to be the social workers and you know these things kind of came together, and it really allowed us an opportunity. Again to look at it. Reimagine Who can we partner with? That has the expertise to be able to really deliver these services in our community. I'm sure there are some listening who will want to know the answer to this question. So let me gotten ask it. This program the implementation of this program, the creation of it, It's in no way part off a larger effort to defund The same people East Department. Correct. Excellent question. I'm glad that you asked that we are not be funding the police and this is more of a reallocation of resources, the funding that we utilize or the pilot Actually came from dollars that we had earmarked that would have been used as a match for another, basically, a grant that we had, um, from the federal government. Finally, is there any other information about the program that you want to let everyone know about? Obviously, those who live in ST Pete were directly impacted by this, But I also think the other law enforcement agencies in the region they're gonna be watching this to see how it plays out and perhaps Create their own programs based off of what you're doing. What works. What doesn't all of that? So is there any other information about the program that you want to make Sure everyone has and also for people listening If they just want to find out more about it, How can they do that? Absolutely. We will be doing some community conversations, Community engagement section. I believe we will probably have them virtually, You know, just to be mindful of our current situation with covert numbers. We will have some additional information out. There are social media are partner Gulf Coast again. They have some great information on their website as well and they are actively Recruiting staff, the individuals that would be doing this work, so I know that they are definitely putting, you know things out there. Um, you know, the Focus with this program again, You know, we see great. Benefit from having proactive and follow up contacts with these again highest utilizes the service to reduce these repeat calls, and our partner will also ensure that the individuals they served Have access to a 24 7 numbers so they can call on that directly and not keep going, You know, to 91 word for don emergency needs, so it really is beneficial for the community and so many different ways. Um, and it's also worth stating as well. This is not a 85 program. We're staffing it 14 hours a day, seven days a week. Um, and there's hours will depend on call volume and things like that for the call types that we've identified. Um And for anyone that's interested again in the program. They certainly can reach out to me. Um and I would like I said. For those of you that are you're not familiar with schools of Jewish family and community services. I definitely urge you to check them out as well. They have a long time history in Pinellas.

"Gonna touch it on the dy subject. Go ahead, sir. There's a local assistant principal in Pasco County who got popped over the weekend for wrecking his car in Lakeland, do you I, but he had just gotten arrested for refusing to blow back in October. "The new them like. Nah Not Somebody Joe you sometimes you get somebody like this can't be true so I jump. Quality of scarring. And I don't see it coming off the news anywhere so I'd say there's no way is true and then all of a sudden it starts to flow in and then you realize yeah this is true and you know they say forty one years doesn't seem like a long time but you live a life is accomplished is Kobe Bryant and oh you live life as fulfilling as Kobe Bryant forty one years is an eternity you know he got the nickname black Mamba and a lot of people know what of Light Mambi is a very venomous snake. But the what he does what makes them so dangerous is that he'll attack without provocation. Kobe Bryant didn't need you to be interviewing the court to the draw fifty on your hair. Cut His mentor. And the guy that he admired more than anybody. He hung fifty five. Michael Jordan's they take that into retirement. That's the mentality that he possessed possessed every time he took the court skip. I had an opportunity to to meet him at the icon award and that was totally to him Kobe. You seem so at least I mean years ago. This was about two years ago skill to use baby baby where we use like shop. I'm at peace. He said because I left nothing on the court I did everything possibly could to become the best player that I possibly could the way I trained the way I ate the way I practice the way I play. He said now I just have a different focus. He says I'm at that same way the same folk because in the same mindset that I will do the NBA until the court and not having all the creative side is about developing stories about tailings storage Skip I just text called me. Let me pull it upscale a month ago as I said this is December twenty eighty six at five forty seven. PM I said if I don't get those sides thirteen game it's going to be on. Emojis may belated Christmas to you. And your family. He hit me back. What gamers takes a picture of the Kobe? By foto the chaos playstation. You GotTa have a special code to get them. He likes Ll as they congrats on the new edition a little King Mama Junior keep saluting u hauls. Where would you in Japan? He's like thanks for him. My princess my princesses are tough. Enough Emoji jaw muscle love uniform. Really Ans- skill I. It doesn't even seem real deal with my grandmother saying she saw. There's one appointment that you'll never be able to cancel. Kobe had an appointment and people that well. Why didn't colby what we drive comb? He flew to practice every day. He flew tables centers every home game. All helicopter fell a company. That would droll. Hello I'm not sure there is a person in this country who is helicoptered. More than Colby has over the last twenty years. Maybe a pilot. Maybe I need to go to work to go to think about this. This is how he went to practice this how he went to work via helicopter. Just as timing so sad I made it. My heart breaks because like I said to watch him grow up to see what he became where he chained from and to see. Like I said we sh- you're not supposed to more. You're not feel sad. You're supposed to be happy that he's in a better place and we say we never supposed to question the man above because he knows holds all he sits highly looks but man today and I think now skill whatever little penny gripes you might have with the individual family member friend I think after what transpired yesterday. I think it's time to sit all that you decide and say you know what I got this little petty great. But what if that person were to leave without saying. I'm sorry or we're better than that. Kobe Bryant we miss you. We miss you G G. We missed the other seven members that also perished in that crash. Sad sad day. I know you remember when Roberto Clemente Peres delivering aid. Our our remember when Dale earnhardt crashed during his skip the reach now or what the NBA hail. Hey how you Cristiano Renaldo you see the guy that he touched unparallel his legacy as big his legacy now is bigger than basketball is about the people. It's about the lab that he took why he played the game that he loves so much of basketball. So to all your points all great ones all deep ones. When I woke up here in Miami yesterday first thing I did was call my wife Ernestine in Los Angeles first thing she said to me? It's so foggy I can't see across the street. I didn't think anything about it. I later read that the La Police East department grounded all of its helicopters all morning yesterday in the Los Angeles area because it was just too foggy to fly so a couple of hours passed here yesterday and I posted a picture on social media of a car that my little Wayne is GonNa let me use this week and I was proud of that picture in about one minute past and my phone rang is I walked back through the lobby of our hotel and it was ernest team and I thought Oh. She saw the picture maybe she liked it and she was crying like I'd never heard her cry in the fifteen fifteen years we've been together. She couldn't even spit out what she was crying about. And I was horrified because I thought something had happened to her or somebody at the home turn and she finally managed to get out coby died. I said no no. That's not possible. And the details. Were sketchy he and I spent the next ten minutes trying to talk her off the ledge. Because I've said they got this wrong it just can't now coby did not die and then once wants the gravity of it struck me. I spent the next half hour in denial to your point. Because there's no Koby could die right. He was too big to die he he was too great to die. If you'd give me a list of ten thousand people yesterday morning and said one of these people is GonNa die today. I might have put Kobe Bean Bryant at the bottom of my list he was just too big and yet I spent the rest of the day as maybe a lot of I did have come to grips with my own mortality. Because he can go any of us can go. Yes yes it. Hit me right between the eyes once again again. To your point how fragile life is how fleeting it can be. It is here here today and gone tomorrow and the ultimate cliche is. We're not promised tomorrow and the other ultimate Cliche is you've got live with and love every single moment. That's the ultimate truth of life and if there's any silver lining to this it made us all I'll stop and say man am. Am I doing this right in yet to your point again. What what? Kidney hardest was that the Kobe was becoming greater in a second career did he was in his first career and to me he is becoming so big. Kiki had taken like movie star status. Yes he was a leading man he had mellow to the point that he had become a global icon like an evangelist for basketball ball where he would preach and teach all over the world and he let go of all the anger that drove him as a player to where he's a beautiful person to watch and I always trusted him to react. Is the ambassador of the game sort of the conscience of basketball and I waited for his tweet need to put it all in perspective so to me. Losing Kobe. At forty one was like losing Michael Jackson at fifty prince at fifty seven or even if I can go back a little blast from the past l.. WHO's at forty two or but there was one huge difference here? There was an element of self self destruction and all the downfalls of Michael Jackson Prince and Elvis some element of self destruction and in this case this was straight unthinkable tragedy. All right he just straight tragedy entity tragedy depending on how you view it spiritually as you said you've got to try to make peace with it in whatever your life review is up to but I can't even fathom or imagine the pain. His wife is suffering to lose a husband and a daughter water like to boom. Nobody's because nobody thinks when you leave the house. She because he had kids colby so many times ATMs and elliptical to practice as he left to go to work. I'm sure G. G.. They've taken this helicopter to gains into practice so many times before never in a million years does she think this was going to be the last time that she holds been kissed. "I want to hear about how did mohammed deal with the jews he turned on his heel and strode away and in that moment this girl her she suddenly realized that he the middle east department chairman had lied to her and it's a friend of her parents told the truth in that moment she flipped. It was like okay he lied. You told the truth bruce so that's a little story about trying to bring truth through university which is a difficult process because you and i are both trained in in some form of of science and i was taught something called critical thinking factor fact-based reasoning and that used to be considered the highway. That's the high standard of all thought. Process is it. It's logical argonne rational but now than their professors who tell me that if it's rational that just a form of white supremacy i mean we now are denigrating very foundation of the university university which is rat fact-based reasoning and the universities are committing suicide but doing this makes me very sad because offer society we will be holding debates on this issue not screaming yelling at me that i don't know anything about what i'm doing. Well so basically what he's saying is your white skin. Trumps trumps any ideas he had to make some sense in are even decent. Yes they could say the worst thing you can have is to be racist or condemn me because of the color of my skin. That's like well. That's the high point of left-wing reasoning but and and the point i see right now too is our society is doing doing this and they're allowing it to tribalize so the raw against each other. I don't care what skin color people.. i do care though that they think their political system which is a religious system which is the same him and one and islam is very unique compared to other religions even hindu they have the viewpoint that they should influence you in your inferior by by the very nature and they need to take over you. I don't think any other religion does that on earth do you. I know that i know it doesn't in it's llamas islam is when you first study as long. You may think well. It's kind of like us. It's similarly as similar. It's either. They got a concept one. God for instance what you discover the more you look at it. There's not one single thing and islam that is exactly what we have nothing that is they don't have a real golden rule of ethics instead. They have their own rule which is a muslim. I'm ozone is a brother and a sister to every other moslem but does that. Where am i on that well. It turns amount and also you remember where islam basically worships ally which is a moon war. Mecca medina is not the same god reminded reminded jacob the god of the universe and we hear sometimes idiots like this jesuit pope pushing crews lomb trying to say it's the same god. It's not in fact. I remember one of my friends actually showed me the any mosque of omar round the stone of abraham there they'd written in arabic that it says allah had no son but he had three daughters and actually names miriam the has three daughters so a lot had daughters which are goddesses but no oh son so another saying there's no such thing as a real connection to christianity and the idea that god if it was the same god had a son call you shula which is the incarnation of the father in the flash so this is a very straightforward thing that said there and the guys showed me was a christian who was a stonemason family did stonemason birkin in jerusalem for thousands of years. He was actually rebuilding the church of the holy sepulcher and the russian orthodox church in east jerusalem. So these lying muslims they consider lying actually a sacrament duffy. Well mohammed repeatedly advised muslims to deceive the kaffir it who had advanced this law so now think about that as an ethical principle in business. Let's say that you're in business with a man he's muslim. Everything seems to be jake. It's <hes> he he sees..

"He says you don't know anything about islam you. You're a fool you're an idiot. You're abou- he didn't call me this llama foam and that was before the term was invented so he just goes on screaming any starts while i called looping that returns to the same anything over and over and over again and so i just stand there because i dealt with these people before and i learned something if you'll just wait long enough they'll finally stopped to inhale and so he finally did before i could reply woman came in from the hall instead of this. This lecture hall is due to be used in five minutes. You'll have to leave so are we left with the point. I'm making areas. I got one more point. I'll make but the point. I'm saying that he made was did he criticize a single technique that i used. Did they say that the fact that this is wrong. Did he say your interpretation of this. Idea is wrong. He just said that. I am a bad person. Which is what the left is doing now. Demon routes. I call it sorry about the noise in the background in other words. It's a demon wraps. The democrats rhapsody the the people that basically want to stop discussion. They don't wanna dialogue. That's why you see even in san francisco changing the names of criminals and drug addicts sue can have have a dialogue nope and by the way there and this is the university that emma by the way. I didn't tell the the man was screaming yelling l. and he was the head of the middle east department and by the way there was one more little pieces of the story which i think is worth relating it was in the audience danced to my best friends and their daughter now the to their their mother and the father keene we were best friends but she looked at me with a little down because after all she's going to vanderbilt university ourselves as a student and she's being taught at the university than anybody who says anything wrong about islam is of course a bad person person so what happened was. This man from the middle. East department came around to the door to start haranguing me. When soon as i left she walked out she says hi my name is such in such and when i took my judaism wanna one course you came in and told us that islam had very special treatment for jews and the protected us. She said this man has told a different story story today she says what are you saying that and he said well these cards hard right conservative. She says i don't hear about conservatives. "Dad dent. Do you get intros like that on any other shows? I think I need to start talking to Fox News about the their game a little bit. The bath get out there. Grado with that. He is just come out of the Fox News studios. He was on outnumbered. Follow him right now. He's a great man. We were in Singapore together for the president summit with little Kim rocket man, he's Daniel Hoffman DC Fox News contributor foam ahead of the Middle East department of the CIA. And as I said, former chief of station in Moscow, and now nominated to the president's intelligence advisory board, it doesn't get much more impressive than that. Dan, welcome to America. I it's been too long since we lost spoke at a lot of fun in Singapore. You've been commenting on what's going on in Iran for those of our listeners, we coast to coast, while the three hundred stations affiliates. I choose YouTube, you name it for those conservatives who listen to America, first and support the president who are worried. They think that, you know, the Neo cons have captured the president and his. Gonna be a wall. What would you say to them? And why, why is the deployment of the USS Lincoln such an important, not, not interventionist but important move by the commander in chief? This is gonna sound a little bit counterintuitive, but we needed to deliver a strong message to Iran, that we will respond to the threat that they are delivering to us on a daily basis. And we didn't do that we would be more with with attacks. If you look at what Iran has been doing, they are threatening if they don't receive we don't lighten up on the sanctions, they're saying that they're going to enrich uranium to weapons grade levels. They're threatening the Europeans collaboration on stemming the flow of migrants and legal drugs from the Middle East. And we also have credible intelligence that they are threatening us with kinetic action in the Persian Gulf and the region in the Middle East. And so we need to respond. It was reportedly meeting last week, led by secretary of defense Shanahan about sending a hundred twenty thousand troops to Iraq to the region eighth needed. And again the diploma. Permanent depends, I can tell you I served thirty years in the government, what they do is they used and you'll did you start when you're ten years old? You don't look at man, you wear it. Well need to know whether it was the CIA disguise department that helps you because you do not look like you. You work thirty years, but sorry carry on. My wife used to do a little bit of that work. And some people do think maybe she helped me out on the capital. Capital younger. Talented did woman. Yeah. The Iran have delivered very credible threats and what we have done in Greece said, look, this is our red line, start to build out your nuclear program, or you attack us with your property or in the Persian Gulf from the CD writing revolutionary guard. If could force, we're gonna respond, and it's going to be regime, suicide Irani, if you attack us. So that's what's going on. The administration has responded. Exactly right. We held heard their threats and made it clear that if they do anything to target our interest, we will respond, and in current until that's really the way stave off at tax, Nevada. We had, we started so seared, so strong attic, we would be more at risk, then you said, it's counter intuitive, but, but really for those who have any sense of history. This is this is America has done prior to Obama in office. The this the adage of walk softly, but carry a big stick. That's not new. And this is exactly what the president's doing. Scholey. I agree with you. And I think those who have criticized this strategy, our understanding it Kander lying, historical context the current threat, we face from this aronie and rogue regime theory state terrorism. They have malicious his bowl in Lebanon, but Lupis in in Yemen, and then countless. Malicious in Iraq skies, popular mobilization units. Serious business, and that's why we responded with very serious getting very credible policy statement, and I agree with you. It is very consistent with, with US national security strategy over the years. What why is this a threat to America? Explain to our list is what happens if Iran actually gets fissile material, or if it gets even more aggressive in the region from Yemen to, to even with regards to the threat to Israel, and everything else. Why should we care down your Hoffman? Already a major threat to our national security just based on their nefarious activities in the recent supporting those delicious here stabilizing force their targeting our allies, Israel, but Saudi Arabia rookies of launched missile strikes against eastern province in Saudi Arabia runnings of loss cyber attacks against the Saudis, their, their major revisionist revolutionary power. And they are thinking now, based on that became put that they've provided pets grade support to Syria trying to weaponize, Golan Heights threaten the Golan Heights in Israel from from Syria now using their forces, deployed in Syria. So they're a major threat to us at in nuclear weapons to the mix, that would only make run even more aggressive and even more dangerous. They're also a known collaborator they have worked with North Korea. And the conservative would have to have is that they would share that nuclear technology and potentially use nuclear weapons, even classical nuclear weapons against us or our allies. And so a lot of thing we want is for Ron to become a nuclear power. The last thing I would just say that they do you're looking at the rest of the Middle East hill. Concerned about Iran's nuclear status. It there's gonna be heightened in the part of the SUNY, Gulf states like Saudi Arabia, potentially the U aid have their own nuclear. That's the last thing we want. You've agreed to graciously stay with us for two segments. In the last minute, we have in this segment. What is, you know, who knows who's listening to this show? What is the right? Move, protect Ron to make now Daniel Hoffman. Well, they have upped the ante on in terms of, you know, confrontation, I mentioned all those threats and look, thanks to the ministrations maximum economic pressure. The Iran in Konami is in freefall, until president Ruhani is trying to do is to try to make the United States out to be the scapegoat for Iran zone failures. And I, he knows that don't citizens are looking at their corrupt regime, and thinking, maybe we want to change. I don't pay the Irani fifth, Irani and government doing anything that would really result in anything quote, that would normalize relations Medicaid hump. Pale made that twelve demands Irani the one of which was their nefarious activity in the Middle East will we, we have to we have to contain them. Clearly, we are talking to Daniel Hoffman.

"Back with my friend Daniel Hoffman career intelligence fall parade of the director of the Middle East on the CIA full of chief of station hot country, Moscow doesn't get much hotter than that nominate to the president's intelligence advisory board. Then did you know that music was we use this time? Coon is this guy keyed in midfield tobacco. And they were to my favorite, very cool. Very cool. Brother. Don't forget on a black man was pretty cool as well. Even before Diana Rigg role than. I didn't think you'll stop could raise down. He just rose. Unimpressed follow this, man. Daniel Hoffman DC. Okay. Let's get to the question. You uh sublimely qualified to answer. You don't have to be paid by the SV. You don't have to be paid by the followed organizations of the KGB will the Kremlin to do their work. Do you? If you look at the last two years in American politics Daniel Hoffman. No, you sure, don't you know, my take on what we've seen. Here's that the Kremlin injected a virus into our political system and Bentham willing carriers that virus like my old boss director CIA John Brennan. Who made wildly unsubstantiated claims about collusion that we're not through but worse than that. They just drove up the animosity and our partisan politics. You know, the Kremlin just want to take advantage of the the fact that we are at odds among our politicians, and they want to heighten that animosity and people like John Brennan. Help them do that. When you worked on the John every time something like Brennan Oakland parole. Somebody else goes on national television and uses foods like treasonous to describe the commander in chief that has a measurable effect, a negative injurious effect on national security outstanding doesn't it Daniel Hoffman. It does versus in practical because we've got five, you know, behind enemy lines. We're hearing John Brennan played that and they're wondering, maybe I shouldn't be feeling secrets on behalf of the United States. Because I don't know if I can trust the administration, and you've got our allies, you know, who home we pain really critically important elegance day to make question whether we can have productive exchanges of intelligence and information, and then you have our citizens who wonder John Brennan talking about and they start to distrust senior government officials and that really hurt frankly like that thirty years serving my country. I don't like that. I'd like that that folks out there think of my career and others is having done honorable service to our nation and John Brennan really hurts us in that regard as well. We've got compliments left. I've spoken to people at Langley at the CIA John Brennan who was a failed operator. He was an analyst voted for the communists body. Scientists seventy six before joined the in the nineteen eighties was an analyst failed of being Perata. Real the CIA did lots of damage to politicize it, especially the Iran shop how long is it going to take Daniel Hoffman. How long is it going to take the fix the from the damage? John Brennan to it. I I don't know that I see that much damage done. The agency of John Brennan has damaged his own reputation is own credibility. And I think he damaged those who took on his argument. "Flood on Dan. Do you get intros like that on any other shows? No. In fact, I think I need to start talking to Fox News about the up in the game a little bit too that in dividing. You get me out of radio off the words with shown. He is just come out of the Fox News studios. He was outnumbered. Funnel him right now. He's a great, man. We were in Singapore together for the president summit with little Kim rocket man, he is Daniel Hoffman DC, Fox News contributor, former head of the Middle East department of the CIA, and as I said from chief of station in Moscow, and now nominated to the president's intelligence advisory board, it doesn't get much more impressive than that. Dan. Welcome to America. I it's been too long since we last spoke we had a lot of fun in Singapore. You've been commenting on what's going on in Iran for those of our listeners we coast to coast while the three hundred stations affiliates YouTube you name it for those conservatives. Who listen to America? I support the president who are worried they think that, you know, the Neo cons have captured the president, and there's going to be a wool. What would you say to them? And why why is the deployment of the USS Lincoln such an important not not interventionist but important move by the commander in chief? Right. This is gonna sound a little bit counter intuitive. But we needed to deliver a strong message to Iran that we will respond to the threat that they are delivering to us on a daily basis, and we didn't do that. We would be more risk at with of an attack. If you look at what Iran has been doing they are threatening. If they don't receive if we don't lighten up on the sanctions, they're saying that they're going to enrich uranium to weapons grade levels. They're threatening the Europeans that they will help collaborations on stemming the flow of migrants and legal drugs from the Middle East. And we also have credible intelligence that they are threatening us with kinetic action in the Persian Gulf and the region and the Middle East. And so we needed to respond was reportedly a meeting last week led by secretary of defense Hannah hand about sending a hundred and twenty thousand troops to Iraq to the region if needed and again, the department of defense, I can tell you I served thirty years in the government what they do is they go to use. Daniel did you start when you're ten years old? Wish you don't look at man you wear it. Well, I need to know whether it was a CIA disguised department that helps you because you do not like you were you work. Thirty is sorry carry on. Now. I'll tell you my life used to do a little bit of that work. And so some people do think that maybe she helps me out just a little younger inch. Talented woman. Yeah. The Iranians have delivered the very credible threats, and what we have done in and said, look, this is a red line. You you start to build out your nuclear program or you attack us with your proxy or in the Persian Gulf from the CD running revolutionary guard corps could force. We're going to respond, and it's going to be regime suicide, but he Irani if you attack us, so that's what's going on the administration has responded. Exactly, right. We we help heard their threats and made it clear that if they do anything to target our interests, we will respond and in kind, and that's really the way stave off attack Irani. And if we had responded so strong attic, we would be more at risk done. What you said, it's counter intuitive. But but really for those who have any sense of history. This is this is what America has done prior to you know, Obama enough is this the adage of walk softly, but carry a big stick. That's not new and this is exactly what the president's doing surely. I agree with you. And I think those who have criticized the strategy our understanding it underlying historical context or the current threats. We face from this Ronnie and rogue regime, they're a state sponsor of terrorism. They have proxy militias his in Lebanon, but who's these in in Yemen? And then countless for Archie militias in Iraq disguises, Opal popular mobilization units. This is serious business. And that's why we responded with a very serious again in very credible policy statement, and I agree with you. It is very consistent with with US national security strategy over the years. What why is this a threat to America? Explain to our listeners. What happens if Iran actually gets fissile material, or if it gets even more aggressive in the region from Yemen to to even with regards to the threat to Israel and everything else. Why should we care down your Hoffman? Well, it is already a major threat to our national security just based on their fairy activities in the region. Supporting those proxy militia here, destabilizing force their targeting our allies, not just Israel, but Saudi Arabia who of launched missile strikes against eastern province in Saudi Arabia. They runnings of launch cyber attacks against the Saudis, their their major revisionist revolutionary power, and they are seeking now based on the became put that they provided such great support to to to Syria. They're trying to weaponize the goal on heights threatening Golan Heights in Israel from from Syria now using their forces, deployed in Syria. So they're a major threat to us. Now, if you add in nuclear weapons to the mix that would only make run even more aggressive and even more dangerous. They're also a known proliferator. They have worked with North Korea. And the concern me would have to have is that they would share that nuclear technology and potentially use nuclear weapons even tactical nuclear weapons against us or our allies. And so the last thing we want is for Ron to become a nuclear power the last thing, I would just say that they do you're looking at the rest of the Middle East so concerned about Iran's nuclear status. There's gonna be heightened interest on the part of the SUNY Gulf states like Saudi Arabia, potentially the US you'd have their own nuclear. That's the last thing. We'd want you've agreed to graciously stay with us for two segments. In the last minute. We have in this segment. What is you know, who knows who's listening to this show? What is the right move for tech Ron to make now Daniel Hoffman? Well, they have upped the ante on in terms of you know, confrontation, I mentioned all those threats and look thanks to this administration's maximum economic pressure. The Iran in Konami is in freefall until the president Ruhani is trying to do is to try to make the United States out to be the scapegoat for Iran dome failures. And I he knows that don't citizens are looking at their corrupt regime and thinking, maybe we wanna change. I don't see the Iranian fifth Ronnie and government doing anything that would really result in anything close that would normalize relations deprecating hump pale made that list of twelve demands for the Iranians the one of which was to stop their nefarious activity in the Middle East. Will we we have to we have to contain them? Clearly, we are talking to Daniel Hoffman. Former.

"Federal government. Yeah. Thanks for that call Joe and Joe races, a good point. Doug addition article at American thinker, which is which says now remember there are eight hundred thousand workers who are furloughed and not being paid. I think showing up many of them are showing up but not being paid. And I the American thinker article says that if somebody is furloughed for thirty days, the president can then go ahead and do a reduction in force and just get rid of them. Have you read that I haven't seen it? It's interesting thought, you know. But again, you've got to go through right east department, and and and and determine who's necessary. I mean, I did see a story that the IRS is bringing Forty-six thousand people back again that have been furloughed, and I'm trying to get the refunds out in time. I guess for the spring here. But my question, and I was gonna ask you this. Morning is you know, would you go back to work without pay necessarily? I mean, there's one thing to to be going back or being furloughed and not getting paid. But to go back and be working and not getting paid well on on that. That's a very good question. I think the answer to that question would depend on how much you haven't personal settings and your own assessment as to the probability that you'll ultimately be paid. Now. Let's try that. But if I'm if I'm staying at home, I'm likely to get paid anyway. Right. I mean, eventually, I mean, I guess. It depends. I I don't know the specifics of that. But you know, if I had a if I were working for. Some federal agency. And I thought my job was important. I suppose they all too when I was in my misguided youth when I was a budget analysts working for the federal government at the Environmental Protection Agency. I thought my job was. Well, I was a job. I I don't know how important it was. But the difference between a job in a career career. It was. You thought what you were doing was to the benefit? I'm sure, you know. Well way back when I took the job. Just my second job out of college. As a budget analyst in Washington DC is a bureaucrat for the federal government when I took that job. I was a misguided democrat and liberal way back when and. Home. Yeah. Welcome home. But what I found is that probably and I work that job for about a year and a half and from nineteen seventy eight to nineteen seventy nine and what I found is. Oh. About six months into the job. I looked around. And I said. Why are people doing this? Why are these people getting paid? I think that began my journey towards conservatism. I one time, I guess, you're recovering federal employees. Then I suppose you could say, you're always hammering federal employees. I guess you were you did a search. You looked around in all of a sudden realized that you were part of the federal government was part of the problem. Now, Doug, I am part of the solution. There you have it. You know, the other thing too interesting story, you're talking about where if you've been furloughed show many days can you start, you know, maybe eventually making this a permanent thing part of the issue during the Obama years when you saw. Mainly short of sector that was doing. Well, it was the government that is they were hiring in the government universities and colleges doing well during the during the Obama years that was it. And so because of that it may have a an impact on the economy, right? I mean, the the government yesterday came out this is the administration that if the government shutdown goes on much longer it will affect what one percent of the of the quarterly growth or something like that. And maybe a little bit. So that could be an impact here. Yeah. But tuck, you know, you get into this whole Keynesian argument. Right. How how what's the best way to grow and economies it to hire a bunch of federal employees? You don't really produce anything, but paper and problems and regulations at stop economic growth. Yeah. I'm not saying that I'm just saying that we already have that bloated the federal government and show the impact of the economy. It does. I mean does make a difference. Even the administration agrees with that. Right. Well, yeah. I maybe in the short term. It's the flow of cash to those eight hundred thousand employees, right? That aren't really, you know, I, I don't know maybe. But also the government does a lot of business with the private sector. So you know, that those paper pushers keep describing all the time. They gotta have paper. So they buy the paper from some some somewhere in other words as a, but yeah, there's a a trip hate to use the term trickle down effect. The. The core of economic growth. Right. Get to the core of how an economy grows, and it's about the use of resources in if those resources aren't going from taxpayers, or in essence, you know, if you're not borrowing extra money to fund those eight hundred thousand employees says is a little less pressure on the debt, and those eight hundred thousand -ployees, let's say you keep one hundred thousand seven hundred thousand find something else to do which actually might contribute more to economic growth over a shall we say a little bit longer period of time. Then what they're doing as paper pushing regulation pushing employees of the federal government. That's the argument. Doug. All right. We'll be right back as we continue here. One more segment of this hour, talk radio ninety eight point three fifteen ten WNYC. The Tennessee star.
