The lake is literally chock full of food. The two e chubs are There's probably too many. But those fish grow so fast. The Scuds, uh, of insects all over the lake provide a richer diet. "The cold and today in today's world, that's not a difficult thing to do. Vow Aubrey, who's on the line with us now. Is out in her kayak in the coldest of conditions, and she stays comfortable just by getting the right clothing and layering and everything else. But more important, that is how good the fishing really isn't Val. Good morning. I'm anxious to hear about it. Yeah, it's just it's just been on fire. And that's that's coming from somebody that is very, very hesitant to say something like that. Yeah, in general, you know, I mean, you know, there's ah lot of different stages of quality of catching It's just been awesome appear. You know, the last few weeks has just been dynamite. Well, everyone's noticed. Definite increase in the average size of fish. Yeah, I mean, you know, our you know, our 30 and 40 fish days are kind of few and far between for numbers. The quality is up a bit. You know, we are getting some of the shakers they planted and fall and then some, you know, you know, looks like brood stock, but they know they've been very nice quality fish, mostly ranging anywhere between you know three on the small side and 4.5 to £5.5 on the large side. Oh, my goodness. And the beauty of it on awful lot of these fish are right along the shoreline now. They are so close. If I was waiting, just like I told you back in the day fish the water before you walk in it. Stand back. 2030 ft. Dropped that fly 5 ft from the edge of the shoreline and just see what you might come up with. Yeah, well, some of the food that they're after is right up right up. What? Sometimes a foot of water. Uh oh, yeah, put six inches, You know, um, you know, but we are also getting them out over the deeper water. But we're not deep, you know. Three toe 5 ft. Deep. Um, you know, the deepest I've caught one yesterday was like 8 ft, You know? Um uh oh. Good quality fish. Orange. J Fair, trolling flies basically ruled, But we've been picking them up on olive and browns And if you on black and you know, the fly fishing guys are doing great on a variety of different things. You know, small nips and stuff. And you know the fissure forging. They're looking for anything, not just one thing in particular. Yeah, well, you know what? Val, tell you. Eagle Lake is one of a kind and they still rent cabins and bargain basement. Uh, prices? Um, and it's a It's a bucket list type of thing to really enjoy this kind of fishing this kind of this time of year, So I'm sure you don't You don't need a boat. You can go up and try to access to shore and Wade to shore line or fish from shore with a bobber and fly. Whatever. So anyway, Val Thank you so much for calling in this morning and continue and to enjoy for the rest of the month. I will. I thank you, Bob. Okay. Seal by my Val Aubrey. She does a great website. "We can't forget that if you're short fishing with a spinning out, you can get out a little further if those fish are reluctant to come in close. Yep. And they love night crawlers in this like this time of year. And of course, you know, we don't talk about it much anymore, but But a lot of old timers still use and still catch fish with a little jig under a barber. Oh, yeah. Olive Orange Brown, You know, dependent on you know, would get closer into December and we get murky water. We've found yellow on baby. In a white A will start working and, you know, I mean, it's just how the fish season be the bank. But, you know, Ah, Lot of a lot of ah, those jigs were home made and tied. But since the advent of the little many jig with the curly tail that will sit level in the water under a barber. They've got all those colors on that. That would have to be a great lure there. Absolutely. And I do believe that they really got their start here, Uh, in the long rods to get him out, you know, Waited barbers at B. B. C. If you have to. Don't overweight, your bother, but it doesn't have to be sitting high, You know, But that's been a very, very effective way of short fishing. And what to Raj Stamp was a worm in under a bottle, and then we'll throw it, Jigen. Round Put a bell on your rod. Make sure that it can't get away because these fish have been known to take your Raj. Okay, Val. Thanks for all the info and again. That was a great video. Ah, looking forward, looking forward to looking at it again. So have a good week. Thank you. J fares passed away a couple years ago and Ah, but he was quite the legend in his own time about flies and fly fishing. He started on Davis Lake on DA Uh, French French, not French miles, but French Frenchman to reservoir Those were two legs that J developed his techniques, and then he moved it to Eagle Lake and other lakes Up and down the Sierra. Andi. I used to see him up Klamath Lake in the middle of summer trolling for those big rain goes up there and fished with him a few times up there, So they got a lot of knowledge there in this video and so try to find out the latest one. "Uh, tend to come in close to the shoreline. Uh, the colder it gets, the less you need a boat. You can wade to shore line in certain areas. Fly fish. Spin fish Cat. Beautiful, Beautiful Eagle Lake rainbows. And if you really want to find out how to do it trolling there's a great new video out that Justine Wolfe did for his program Angler West and Val. Aubrey sent me a copy of it. It is a great instructional video, so I asked Val to come on. Talk about fishing and how we can see that video. Good morning, Val. Good morning, Bob from eaglet. Yeah, well, I'll tell you one thing That was you and, um Your partner out there who just did a wonderful job with all the details on trolling flies at Eagle leg That was about as good as instructional video on how to Ah, You kind of get the best of a technique I've ever seen. Ah, And you guys did it in one day, huh? Yeah, We did it one morning. And you know, Justin did a beautiful job on inserting an OJ fair clips from his video and stuff. You know, it was very well done. And hopefully, you know, the average fisherman won't be intimidated by trolling a fly now. Well, and Dennis Pierce was your partner on the boat, who has trolling flies dot com I think is the name of his website has been doing it for years and years and years. So two guys, two people that specialize in trolling flies and kind of proteges of J Fair in the beginning, um, who kind of modernized that technique? And you know what? It's when you look back over that video. You say? Well, that's not so tough, but to be able to come up without technique that was very creative and that you've used it all these years, Val and you still use it and catch fish. Absolutely. Yes, we D'oh. Now speak. Where can we see this video? By the way? Right now. It's on YouTube under Justine Wolfe and anglers less TV. I don't know where it goes from there, but you know it's out there for anybody to check out on YouTube. Well, I think if you go to YouTube and just put in an angler weft that's Eagle Lake, you might find it. Ah, you might find it yet. Okay? Might not be the first one might be more than one on there, so but if it's you and Dennis Pearson the boat that's the right one. So hey, what's the fishing like, right? Yeah. Val, the temperatures drop. What's the morning temperature? And what's the water temperature? Eagle leg wound the morning temperatures up installing a little cooler than down south And I'm I'm looking at 25 degrees in the parking lot. Ah, Egalite Marina. I had 18 and Spaulding. Pretty normal toe have that kind of spread. Yeah, and what's the water temperature again? You know, we're looking at a very low fifties for the South station. We're look we were looking at, like 49 52 up in the north station, A TTE the channel of the youth camp. I don't advise going any further north. You know you you end up in a lot of very shallow kind of muddy water. You complain through it, But you can't get out of it when you want to take off. So, um, pretty much holding it. There are water temperatures up. There were 51 2 weeks ago. So we're probably down into the forties, You know, high forties up in the north patients now. Yeah, no. Well, I mean, now is the time and, um, you know, For people that you know we've been talking about it for years. But right through the end of this season, there's some wonderful cabins you can rent. For remarkably low price is quite often under $100 a night. These air fully contained cabins with kitchen units television the whole works. They're just They're just wonderful. I mean, there is comfortable as it can be. They're not. It's not junk. They don't rent joke. So you've got a nice place to stay for a good price. And Ah, and how important is getting out real early in the morning, this time of year, Val You know, it's not really important to get out there and oh, dark 30 this time of year. You know the fish? Yeah, they're active early in the morning, but they're active pretty much all day long with very few loans in between. Right now. There's still pretty scattered in the South Basin because their migratory they move you know, with the food and water temperatures. Don't worry. They're all going to turn around and come back soon that water temperature to use camp drops to 47 45 degrees. Okay, Uh, have they normally by this time here, Looking back a few years. The fish will be in tight to the shoreline now, But something is different. The last few years, they have been late getting in there. Are they late getting in there this year? You know they are late getting in there. Just not staying long. You know, they're they're staying high in the water column, but they're moving out over 10 ft, plus deep of water rolling, I'll pick a few up in, you know, +45 ft of water in Iraq on a loop. You know, but most of my Fisher intend to 20 Ft of Water about 4 to 6 FT. Deep. Yeah, Okay, but Ah, you know, I don't know what changed to where they Ah, No. You know, the food chain must be something must be have to do more with the aquatic insects or the lack of the brought him in close to shore than anything else. What do you think? Well, you know, Ever since the drought set us and we're going back, you know up here, Tio 09, basically, um, the Ph, you know, in the springtime Has been pretty much normal in the South Basin two weeks ago, it was 9.25, which is relatively high for the South patients. Um, but since the drought official come in close to shore briefly, But where they're going to hold is out of reach from waiting, You know, so you can catch him. You know, early but doing you're gonna have to do some traveling and find that little drop up within reach that exceeds 10 ft. And we do have that. Go. Okay. What sides are the fish right now, Val. Well, you know, we're averaging 3 to 4 pounders. I met a guy two days ago. That was a short fishing here Pipes and he brought in a fish that made my for one Look little you know, if I were to guess it was pushed, it was probably five and three quarter to £6. It was a beauty. And he caught it offshore. A Offshore that I didn't even told my boat from town today and I just dunked a worm in and in my barber went down and that's what I came up with. I said, Well, that's a good one to come. Boy were a warming above. We can't forget that if you're short fishing with a spinning out, you can get out a little further if those fish are reluctant to come in close. Yep. And they love.

"Filter feeding and everything I've had is basically all larva. I fly here and there, depending on what time of the morning. I'm catching him. But you know, it's it's mainly leeches. You know, shrimp larva God, they're all going to start turning orange now. Um, you know, with water temperatures, So, Yeah, it's just kind of been all over the place up here, but we're getting some nice quality fish. I know talking to you. And years ago, J Fair, who used to go out in the middle of winter with his boat didn't fish from the boat, but he would use it to access different parts of the lake. Over a year, he knew were most of the Scuds were. I mean, people think there's Scuds along every foot of shoreline there, and that's not necessarily the case. So you've got to experiment when you're when you're trying to do imitate that little critter. Oh, absolutely absolutely. So we're looking for some good times. It's getting in the November which the biggest fish of the year will be caught. You will be a lot of fish for £5 caught looking forward to talking in next week. Maybe Belle. Okay, well, I'll be out there this week, so we're going to go get him again. Thanks, Val for calling it appreciate it. Thank you, Bob by she operates a great website. Eagle lake fishing dot net. And all you got to do with Eagle Lake is be ready for the cold because it can get cold up there. But, you know, with the with the clothes and everything we have available to us these days. That should not be a problem. You should be able with their waiting new shoreline. Ah, float tube or in a boat. You should be able to keep warm. And if you can, and you conduce that your catch big fish, and they're fun to catch this time of year, Okay. After the break, we'll find out what's going on the Upper Sacramento.

"Found out and you may hear it before the programme's over a report from Andy Border Kenny's fly shop. Making a few trips down in the delta, and they say the striped bass bite is improving. Let's find out what Clyde wants. The old timer has to say about a good morning, Clyde. Good morning, Bob. I don't know if it's improving. It is one week and the next week, maybe not stole Ah, lot of strikers to be found, but you gotta look around. I, uh, put a few miles on Don't they seem to be really scattered it anyway, at striper weather and the water temperature hasn't come down much. I'm still seeing 70 71 degrees in there. Now where you fishing? Clyde! Clyde, Were you fishing? I'm fishing, Uh, doing a little traveling all over. We found fish and broad flu last week, and this week it was really slow on Tuesday. We tried that West Bank had a lot of grass. I start off on that on DH. We could control that. And we ended up only catching a few fish. But that's the way the other boats were. You know, just a few here and there for the reason the reason I ask Clyde about the temperature Is now the Sacramento River by Sacramento is running about 65 degrees. And wouldn't that be nice to have further down in the Delta? Yes, it would surely would Bob with the wind, 30. We went into broad smooth and we did find a sport fish at one place. And we done pretty good. We caught from a little better fish a little better grades. Anyway, I called Mark. He said he could get one day out. No, he has some problems. But anyway, he got out there and they caught fish. She called me yesterday evening. The same place that, uh, I think where I told him to go, and we've been moving around here and there. You just gotta look around for them. And I understand there's still a lot of fish down the bay to come up there. Still there still catching them on the boats down there. Yes, they are. Most of the casework catching our you know about the color. Probably been fish has been there for a while, Uh, you gettinto school? You just gotta look around. And the fish are so standard and you'll find fish me There's fish to be at down there. What do you think is better now? What do you think is better? The sacramental side by the West Bank or the sand marking down saved by Ed does and false River. Uh, I think it's about a cross up one day. I'll go down and it depends on the tides. There's a couple places on the San Martino inside that I like the Outgoing tide A little better Couple places station Then if I'm fishing, Uh oh. Broads, flu I liken out, Go there And then the sacramental side. We were doing pretty good around. Uh, What we call Hobo beach through there, and there's been fish there, but there's also grass. You got a kid, right? Just at the turn of the tide with that grass is Don't seem to be a dad. That's been a big problem with the sacks are well, I guess it's going to continue to be until the temperature drops a little bit. We do need a good blush. And here you go. I have never seen one ism is clear last to traipse in there, You know money, servants, always a little dirty. Yeah, but It's been really clear in their end. Every other time. It's held a few fish. You know, we've been in there a couple times, and, uh, for nothing, and, uh, The last last trip, help this last trips. Okay, well, that gives people some choices, Clyde. So, so that's appreciate. Okay, well, we'll see what the next week brings. We're good. We're going to get some cooler temperatures. Give him You know what out there on? Ah, but you will see a little uptick next week. So good luck. Okay, Clyde. Okay, Bob. Thank you. Thank you, Clyde ones, the old timer out doing it. Pull up a Eagle Lake. October is the time Um it's gonna evolve to the whole month of October get better and better. And I talked to Val Aubrey. Ah, Uppity Gallego last night about exactly that. Vow October means fishing improves at eagle Legged. I know we're only into the first week of October, but have you seen the difference? Yeah, We're starting to see the changes their very subtle and they've been very slow. We need a good cold front. Come through and cool it down a couple more degrees. You know, I'm still looking at, you know? Low sixties at the South Basin almost all the way to the bottom, So we just need that cold spell and then we'll just really kick in. Okay, What's What's the nighttime temperature getting down to? You know, I've had a lowest 29. Um which you know I should be. I should be in 20 to 17, you know? Ah, and you know by, you know, mid October, So, uh, you know, we're a little behind schedule, but you know, the fish definitely kind of scattered. You know the trout? I am catching them in the upper 6 ft. Of the water column. That's where they've all been for me for the last couple of weeks now, So, uh, but they're real scattered. I'm covered in the territory you know to to get get the limits, but, uh Yeah, yeah, upto. Probably. What £3.5 right now, you know me and mine. 3.5 we all pushing for I haven't broke for so you know, I I've heard of People break and be all hit for, you know, weaken and even five but, you know, feeling far between, but on average, you know, two and after £3.5 nice fish. You bet you bet and the cold weather comic, I think condenses the fish in different parts of lake and also kind of pushes him towards shore. A little bit doesn't avail. You know it does. And even though I'm catching up high, I haven't caught him in my normal, shallow, shallow rock piles yet. I've got him in, like 12 to 17 photo water, but then there moving out 20 tow 55. But there's still on top. I think it's because that's where they can see. I guess so. What do you use them? Of you know, my hardest one has been the J. Fair. Hot orange fly trolling fly a cz long as it's been clear. If I get a morning where I'm either overcast or I've got smoke innovation, which has been coming and going, it should be decreasing now, but I've been using a dark brown aura cinnamon leech. That's about Aubrey up Eagle Lake on She's catching some nice fish. I'll tell you one thing..

"Checking on the movement. It's time. Are you in your boat or your kayak? Arming my big boat out here, and I got my deck and driving while I've been talking, Tio. Okay, so, Val, If now we we We've got to go win. We gotta figure everything out. And if you're a fisherman is gonna head that way of what would you tell him to do to find some fish? Well, you know, number one is my top lines and orange J Fair or Arctic Fox trolling fly. Have probably gotten me a little bit more attention than my deeper lines. On average, just about anywhere. I've been fishing. I'm so you know, they cover the bases. We still have this being Codec 25 ft. Ah, still official 12, But we are working for him, and I think it's just a matter of getting something that they can see in this cloudy water. Very ago. Or maybe some sort of Ah, allure that makes a little bit more noise in the water. Well, a little bit more noise. This was also typically the timing years you've got these algae is dying off and such with water temperature drops is that you know these fish are after Minos there after just about anything, but this is the time of year that historically For the last 60 years that a Flasher and a night crawler has just killed him. Why wouldn't have I run it? No, I'm running what I do, But I do have friends doing that. Then Roland nightcrawlers, and they are picking up some fish here and there and You know what the cloudy water get some sparkly out there. Well, you know, that just makes sense because that's going to bring fish in because they can see it from farther away. And I know exactly what you're doing. You're trying to dialling him to the foot. And once you find that up, then you'll be able to catch plenty of fish on my right. Yeah, And it's up to me to die Elated, very color. And that's part of the fun of figuring it out, though. So, Belle the challenge of Eagle Lake? Yeah. Are we seeing any decent sized fish? Well, we've got a three pounder in the box without even trying. And I called it the accidental trout. But we kept it. Yeah. Okay. Well, that's not a bad start. First. We're going to Seymour and more of those a season goes on, right? You know? Yeah. This is just our typical. It'll like fall, you know, coming around, and she'll get real good this fall. Okay. Hey, Val. Thanks for taking time out from fishing. The call is good luck today. Thank you, Bob. And this time I didn't take time out from fission. I'm still fission. Okay, good for you. See you later. Bye. Well. She runs a website. It's a Goodwin Eagle Lake fishing dot net If you want to find out what's going on, Okay, well, I talked to Luke Lapa Novich over at Sweeney's sports. Berryessa is still closed. I talked to the lake manager from the Bureau of Reclamation yesterday afternoon, she says Right now our best guess is late October. Open Lake Berryessa, and so I said, Okay, we'll call you back in a couple weeks and we'll see what develops you. That's a great idea. So as of now it's late October. Don't try to narrow it down to a week. They they haven't either. But in the meantime Luke that's his favorite water. He's been fishing clear leg. Here's what he had to say. Look, your home water has been closed. I'll bet to you. It seems like forever because of the fires. Lake Berryessa. It's still closed. Do you get any indication of when it might be opening up again? You know, it has been awhile in those fires definitely decimated. You know most of the lake up there, especially when I when I drive through They're to get over to say the winner's side. Uh, it's definitely pretty pretty barbecue. They're depressing. It is I don't think it's going to do much to the fish. Fortunately, other than you know, when the rains start, hopefully all that ash and all that doesn't flow into the end of the lake. But as far as when that place going open again, I am not 100% Sure, I you know, I've heard people say next month I heard maybe into November. I've heard Possibly opening on the first, which would be next Thursday. But you know nothing's set in stone or anything. Well, it's hard for me to believe that as a top priority for the Bureau of Reclamation, I mean fishing has never been their top priority. So But you know, there's a lot of things I'm sure we don't know about. They have to take care of. So, um, While some of the best fishing a year is about to come up there, we just wait and see. So for you been fishing. Been fishing clear, like mostly given that you know with what's going on with this year with, you know, the cove it and you know all that kind of jazz. I clearly spent about the only lake has been real cooperative with, you know, tournaments and hosting tournaments and all that, for the most part ever from ever since March. That's pretty much where I've been. I've been focusing. Yeah, I heard just lately. You know, it was pretty good. Ah, just a few weeks ago. Then it kind of kind of there was a dip in the Ah, the quality efficient And it seems like we're from what I'm hearing is. It seems like we're coming out of that now. What's your take on it? You know everything's super weather dependent right now coming into you know what's considered the fall month Now that we're well into September, October just next week. You think that our temperatures will be cooling down the Fisher really gonna be transitioning from their summer fall habit getting way up shall on pushing bait, and it doesn't seem like they're quite there yet. I just fished a two day tournament last weekend. Expecting them to be in there in there, Paul Kind of, you know, attitude. They just weren't there yet on DH, That's all weather dependent. You know, we're getting those cooler nights, which are very, very key. But then I'll still be really hot throughout the day. And, you know next week supposed to be into the hundreds itself, That's not good for what those fish wants to be doing. No, no, that that Ah, that will Put a new wheel on the wagon for those fish attack. Yeah, usually. Ah, Ah, History Dick. You can repeat itself, usually around the first week of first the second week of October. Things could be really good over there. That's hope it holds up. Yeah. If you're going to go over there now what? What would you throw? You know there. There's two kind of ways that you can look at that lake right now. You could be targeting those fish that are going to be up shallow keyed in on bait or even sit out deep in official the rock piles or, you know, wedges and all stuff like that. Personally, I'd rather shallow up there right now, for the fish that are active and feeding on bait and all that, then you know, having to go on grind out about bite out. Um, but it's It's a weird time we need we need weather to kind of consistently gets cooler and cooler for the fish. You kind of get comfortable and know what they're what their next date is gonna be. Sounds like we're in a little bit of limbo here. Yeah, yeah, And the and the fishing definitely goes that way. It's been it's been really tough up there. Some of the days Once the weather kind of.

"Go talk to the fly shop up there and listen, even if you're not a fly fisherman pay attention because you know there's there's absolutely good opportunities for spin fisherman here, whether you use a fly and bubble or just your spinning outfit on where the fish are what they're doing, so pay attention to that. Then we're going to get a nice report on Eagle Lake Haven't had a report on Eagle Lake for well, manly because it only opened And here was another one. I gotta report Um, I think I did mention it last week that opened up a eight o'clock last Saturday morning. Well, I couldn't have a report last week, because if anybody had been fishing it They would have been doing so illegally if they crossed Forest Service land, But that's a whole different story. They've had a weak on it and we're going to get Ah, a good report there. We'll also get a great report on Ah Uh, Lake Shasta. Now something's air happening up at Lake Shasta. Fertile as you might expect the bass fishing Pretty good. Of course, it's always pretty good. But now the two pounders with a few tree 3.5 pounders air coming in. That's kind of an indication of the fall, you know, and we are in a fall. The fall right now, officially anyway, and nobody is too sorry to see this last summer Go, I'm sure. But so that's good. And you know, a mystery has been sold because last spring and all through the summer. There was periods of 30 good fishing at Shafter for trout. But they weren't fat like they normally were. And nobody saw any balls obeyed. Nobody saw the big schools of shad. Well, guess what? We finally found some shad and they're screwing up in the lower portions of the lich anywhere anywhere from 25 toe. 80 ft Deep. So we will get a report there. That is good news that you talk about a mystery fish. Those shadow can be just exactly that mystery fish. Um We'll get a good report from Kurt Porter career. Oh, you know, they've been crying the blues up the river and It's because the numbers of salmon haven't been there. Abi Red Bluff. Well, guess what. The last few days they went from, like two Fisher boat before five. Fisher boat. Whole different story, old different store so hopefully that will continue. And this week in the Sacramento area Monday started out with a few fish being caught in the morning, and then it was dead. The whole rest of the day. Nobody could figure out what happened to the fish move up. Did they go off the bite? Well, the next day, everybody caught fish. And we're talking all the way from Sacramento. Down. Generally, the free port area boom boom boom all over. So Chris General will join us this morning and kind of give us a recap on the the week of salmon fishing in the Sacramento river. So, uh, we'll be talking about that up in Mark Leave. Il will give you an idea of the fish plants. Please know that Heenan Lake up on monitor past was one of the lakes that re open last week, and I do know somebody will be up there this morning opening the gate. It's open Friday, Saturday and Sunday through October. Ah, Catcher at least marbles hooks for the big cutthroats in there, and we'll give you every little other little bits and pieces like that about what's going on throughout the state. So All that and more coming up in the next two hours and 45 minutes on the kfbk outdoor show. Thanks for being here. Covert.

"Welcome back. A legal leg. Always a popular destination. Uh, just because of the reputation of the trout there, and when you do catch him there just so much fun. Good. Eat the whole works. And the person that keeps an eye on the lake and as one of the legs. Premier Fisher Persons is none other than vow Aubrey and she joins us Now I vow. Good morning, Bob. So, Val, you can catch Fish Eagle Lake that you've been hearing lately. Ah, lot of people are catching something other than trout Explain. Well, we're in summer mode and the two each job always. Well, Baekje in the summertime when you drag your lines, the room, you know, my my whole thing to avoid. The jobs is avoid fission in the judge, and you won't catch the chop. Even on a even on a Sunday or, you know, we've got 456 rods in the water and what role in and and we go through the jobs. We'll get every rod will go off. You know, just get out of them. I've been managing to get out of the chubs. I usually let my lines out just as I'm past in the schools, but I've been running slightly, and I do mean slightly, like 2 to 3 feet. Shadow were water. The tub's for me, seemed to be over and 48 47 feet of water and most of the trout. I'm catching our 39 42 feet of water. So that's that. That's the depth of the water, not how deep you're efficient. Correct. Okay, So now I did water in the water column yesterday at shrimp buying land in Eagle's Nest, and you know, I've got a minor thermal Clines forming between 25 35 feet. But I'm still catching at 12 to 17 18 feet deep. Charges because I've got four degrees and I've got a lot of oxygen to sustain the trout for very long, but those deaths Deepest trout. I've got all week 22 23 feet. So it doesn't matter what common sense tells you what you know is by experience. The chubs are in deep or hanging over deeper water than the trout. You stay in less than 40 feet of water. You're not gonna have the problems and just because the therm a client intelligent and go down the 30 feet, the Fisher being caught from 14 to 20 There you go. That's what do you What do you using? You know, I'm still using the Thomas buoyant. I've thrown in some needle fish. Mainly. It's still the coppers in the Reg and the gold in the yellows that are producing for me. I think I threw in a frog needle fish number ones or number twos and those work. I mean, you know for lead core users. I'm going. I'm starting off about, you know, Tune 3/4 to 3 colors at the rial and I gradually worked my way down to about four colors in the water. Okay, I have a problem. What guy? Val. Good, How big of the fissure getting it on the larger side. Well, The one I got yesterday were £3 but I am told it for so you know, they're nice fish. They're good quality. Then it's just a matter of working forum and of At all costs. Avoid that school of fish that blackens your scope from 7 47 feet or you will catch to each other. Okay, Val. Thank you so much for taking the time to call in this morning. I appreciate it. You got it. Good luck. Bye bye. Val Aubrey, the website Eagle Lake fishing dot net. Now, you know, there's been a bill floating around, and now it has been passed by the Assembly. California Assembly. It's a B 30 30 and I don't know what the motivation is, Unless it's just a environmentalist thing. They don't want anybody to do anything. They don't Believe them, and that includes fishing and hunting and enjoying a wildlife. So they trying to push us build. That was set aside 30% of California's lands and 30% of the oceans. That would eliminate sport fishing in the ocean in those areas and restrict dramatically ah, access to the rest of the California lands. Which has really already been done by the state and conservation organisations. Um Mark Smith, a lobbyist we've had on several time to represent several outdoor organizations joins us now to tell us more. Good morning Mark. Good morning, Bob. You know, I learned something from your last caller. Instead of saying that the Legislature is back. Maybe I should start saying the chubs air in Sacramento. Yeah, it could be. So, so I can't believe the assembly already passed this Yeah. Unfortunately, the last time we talked about the bill, it was in the assembly and it passed the assembly. In a matter of 12 days. It was on a fast track, and it's over now. So we're back to talk to you about it again. Well here, you know, I just did a little research after I talked to you yesterday to see how fair all this is. And on Lee in California, the Senate natural Resource is in water Committee where this bill is now. It is composed of nine members of the Senate. Two of them are Republicans. Seven of them are Democrats. There's not a single representative on that committee that represents a district north of Santa Cruz. Not a single member represents true Northern California, which this law may affect more than any other part of the state. Yeah, But when we talked about this bill earlier, just as a reminder to your listeners, it is for us. The conversation about conservation versus preservation, the groups that I work with and the vast majority of organizations that your listener support. Support conservation at our core, but where we are trying to draw a distinction is between conservation and preservation. Protect the land but continue to allow The well managed and well regulated uses of hunting and fishing, which are very complimentary to conservation. Sure, we have tried. We have tried without success that distinction into this, Phil And we are worried that some of the sponsors they seem open to it. But others within that coalition just outright reject that notion. And that makes us concerned that at the end of the day what the group is talking about his denial of access Rather than continued access. And so that's where we've reached a sticking point, and unfortunately, that's why we continue to oppose this measure. Well, you know, in the last couple of months, we certainly have gotten used to people not carrying what we think when it comes to the history of this country. And I'm getting a little tired of people telling me why we should tear down the statue when it's just history. I mean, they want to turn the page of history and rewrite it to suit their particular needs. I'm not buying it. And here's something else. Mark. You know that the not that we expect any help from Charlton bottom from the department official wildlife, But here is their mission statement. The mission of the department official Wildlife is to manage California's diverse fish, wildlife and plant resource is and the habitats upon which they depend for their ecological values and for their use and enjoyment by the public. This bill goes exactly 1 80 away from that. Well, we would. We would like to see those additional amendment. So what we're asking your folks to do today is to continue to keep their ears open. I know many of your listeners belong to organizations that have gotten action alerts or messages about this bill. This bill is going to be heard on Wednesday, August 5th in committee. It starts at 9 a.m. in the morning, and there will be a telephone line where people can call in the voice their concerns now. Unfortunately, I don't have that phone number to give you Because the Legislature only provides that So we will be doing a grassroots push out to members of the sportsman in sports Women's community to let them know what that call in line is on Tuesday, but we need every responsible angler and Hunter. To call to tell the committee.

"Welcome back welcome back you know so far I think it's been a pretty good year he collect and I think one of the things is this is that during the drought everybody was worried because they they fish down you know in the middle of summer you go down thirty thirty five freak maybe forty feet deep to get these fair in fact the most popular way to to to catch him would you anchored in say thirty thirty five feet of water in fish with nightcrawlers whatever on a slip bobber yeah you know they would get you down to just a couple feet off the bottom but all of a sudden it stopped catching fish and then they start worrying about it and everything well little education comes in and it's it's the dissolved oxygen which Val Aubrey will bring up in this in this interview but the pay attention to that especially in a natural lake like eagle lake because the fish main may choose another element other than water temperature to hang out and listen overall yesterday the fourth of July you had to have a bunch of people up at eagle lake how they do well you know it's it's been good fishing this week you know you know you you still have a little longer between the morning in the late morning by you know you just hang in there and you know just keep doing the same thing that you were doing in the morning to catch a man you're going to get them yeah just now don't give up too early all right and now I mean gosh what ours died you know not get people out real early and and and then the by which shut down and you know pretty much you know ten o'clock we them another bike coming on no matter what to sell on our table say but you know we are you know still I'm I'm still fishing between five and about fourteen feet deep but the depressed most of mine are common in all early and on the top line gin and orange flies and a little bit later around eleven feet and you know we're getting plenty of action at that level so now I'm not going to change it if it isn't broken well you know I don't know if I've ever heard in July by July floors that you're only having to run fifteen feet deep at eagle lake all in all the last few years and throughout the door out of that drought.

"Thirty five and and things that twenty five so they're all mixed in with, with each other. That's Mark Chris full of Mark crystals guide services number to book a trip five three zero six eight zero one four nine two. I also talked to Val Aubrey at eagle lake about how that's going and what's, what else is happening there, thou. What is the last week, broaden eagle leg the first week was kinda sketchy? But some nice fish were caught any change this week. It's, it's been pretty good. We've had to deal with a little bit of well quite a bit of algae. When heated up the last couple of days, it's cool down a little bit. We've had some pretty good winds blowing. So we're hoping it cleans up a little bit, and doesn't shred it into this little microparticles. We know we've had, you know, patches and, and, you know, we've had some pretty good tools, you know, in between the doors of the algae, but, you know it is really for shop here. So you know, we're just gonna play in a day by day. Okay. Now is that algae doesn't win kinda help you there. If that blows if the wind blows. Blow them off the lake. You know, and it's been kind of pretty much from the west which, would, you know, either south or more spy, west show, it can have a tendency to clean up the west side of the lake and load up the east side of the way just dependent on how much you know it blows. Okay. You know, it has been switching between sales and yours. And you know, it just kind of puts a little bit of, you know, takes it off and then put you back on again. But the cooler temperatures holding the water temperatures down we've still got fish, you know, pretty much. I'm still catching them right on top on orange size. And and, you know, we've been doing really good. Okay. So the, the Fisher still in the top ten feet of water. Then me, you know, if I have a really hot day, which we're going to have next week summer comes back, you know, they've been dropping down eight to twelve feet for me on a really flat note. Okay. Soon as I get a ripple on the water and a little bit of way action right back on top again. Oh, that's fun. Isn't it? Yes, it is. So, so your orange flies been been the hot ticket. You know, the orange has been the best fly for me polish, you know, brook trout, small ones, you know, to, to be in jail, or I'll even down to one and a half inch have also been been doing some damage. I it's, it's just a matter of being a little bit of gold. A little bit of orange a little bit of red green, and and, you know, a little bit of copper here and there, but, you know, it's you know, they're taking a lot of different things. But the most consistent thing for me has been top lining, orange killing size. Okay. Good deal. The Jay fair stuff or stuff you make yourself. Well, you know, I mean I just I, I don't have to buy. Fair or, or the Arctic FOX mine, are a little bit more similar in color to the Arctic FOX right now. You've been picking them up just fine. Okay. Tell me about the Spalding, boat ramp is that usable. Well, it is about three three feet of water through channels. So we're good for a little while on the hot days, we loading up with algae, but the west winds blew it out. It was pretty scummy the other day. But yesterday and today with the westerly winds kind of blew out the mat, and I it's holding up, okay? That's Val Aubrey up at eagle lake funny, how algae affects different lakes, different ways, but it's a natural thing and a little wind will clear it up or move it around water coming into the lake runoff will dissipate it lacks happening down at Crawley lick. So it shouldn't stop you from fishing somewhere in the leg. Check valves website if eagle lake fishing dot net after the break will go down to new Maloney's reservoir. "On KFI K fifteen thirty AM and ninety three point one FM. We will get to that Spalding lick thing and just a couple of minutes. But I, I talked to vow Aubrey today's the opener of eagle lick up above Susan Ville in California, northern California. It's a great fishing lake. I mean it has its ups and downs, especially with the drought years and everything but is beaten back, and I talked to her, of course, mostly about the conditions of Ilich as it stands right now. Vow tomorrow is the long-awaited opening especially for us since you live, there of eagle lake since January since December thirty first an away we go. Now we ended last year pretty good. There was a low. There was a lot more fish caught than the year before there were they were big. They were healthy. I guess we're, we're looking at what the water level is this year compared to last year. Well, we. Finally capped over the five zero nine seven elevations, which means where several inches above the twenty seventeen level, and we haven't seen these numbers since twenty eleven. Wow. So that's eight years eight years, but we're still not, you know, our prime, but we're better than we have been. Okay. Well, you know, every year that we're a little bit better is a good year. But normally early in the season. People go out the troll. Open water seemed like everybody catches fish doing a little bit of everything then things settled into a groove. But if you were going to fish it for the first time like you are tomorrow. I mean, what would you recommend people do? Yeah. You know, me I like the shallow rock piles early, and I'll just have to see basically what what the boats are doing to the fish. You know, it's a big weekend official gone from real quiet to all this chicken and all the Motors go in and lines everywhere. And, and typically, they'll get a little bit spooky. But for the most part, if you're traveling in the deep water, and they're right on top, which they should be, you know, relatively close to this office. A lot of times, they'll just run right into shore. And let the boats, you know, get out of there and then come back out drop down. But, you know, me, I'll be hitting some shallower water. Even though I will be near deep water. I will go into it just, you know, I gotta feel it out to, you know, is that, you know, pretty much. I think the fish are going to be about four to six feet deep early and I, you know, depending on the pressure, maybe eight twelve feet deep a little bit later in the morning. You know. So, you know, I don't think you know, we're gonna push him too much deeper, but you never know their trout energy like you're gonna be trolling hardware or fly Fisher. I'm gonna do flies, you know, forget, go. But then I'll probably put her around with some hardware. She what they're hitting on that. Okay. Okay. Well, I mean, you know, when eagle lake open that's a big deal because it is a absolute destination for people all over the place. It's nice to know this open. That's the way I always feel. And even though I don't get up there as often as I'd like I'm always sad. When it closes. So what are we expecting in size for the first week is open? Say you know seventeen to twenty. Reg- inches. At a few Twenty-three. We added twenty six. If you at twenty four, but, you know, the average was, you know, between seventeen and twenty twenty one inches which is a real nice fish. Valerie up at eagle lake next week. We'll give you how the fishing was, and what they were catching them on. And also, if you can use the Spalding area boat ramp. Okay. I didn't ask her about that this time but we'll find out next week you can always check a report eagle lake fishing dot net. Okay. Well guy we have on that fishes twelve months year out of his kayak is David Serono from Sacramento. He texted me yesterday with a couple of pictures of pretty nice Brown trout taken out of lake Spaulding, which is right off interstate eighty. And he goes, you went up there and did some trolling from his kayak. I talked to him last night. David, you're up at Spaulding reservoir today. Up off. I eighty everybody can see it when they go by it's, it's known as a Brown trout, lake and also is a king salmon lake. But I guess you were after Brown's today. You do. Yeah. Actually surprising. I caught a few lost one, I got out the early in the morning on lake by six o'clock. Nobody else was out there and, you know, the first thirty minutes of trolling, I had a, a hookup that was I was trolling the top surface had my line out about one hundred feet just just top leading. Yeah. Yeah. And I had my down rigor set on my other rod at twenty feet. Okay. So and, and, and the first one hit right there at the surface, what were you using I was using a black and silver or repel about two and a half about maybe three inches? Fought hard, it homered and build them in and that one was about twenty one inches. And so, you know, I continue to troll around the lake just about thirty to fifty feet from shore and just going around the lake and one across the lake over towards the, the dam, and hooked onto another one bought him. And, and when he got close to my net, he broke loose the swallow broke off and the Lua was still in his mouth, another. Apollo. Yeah. Down with my that was my hot repulsa silver block wants so that one is gone. Yeah. So, yeah, I just continued or lake and nothing for quite a long time. And then finally, eventually I was using a different recall a one more of chartreuse with orange belly and had a grey gray on its back saying, same side. Paula hooked onto one was twenty three inches and rounds were. Yeah. Both Browns or different as far as their spots on one hat bigger spots, and what had smaller spots on it. So, but I was using all kinds of different fishing gear is trying my broken back repellent. And it just seems to go after the e-, one Pala, that's you know, not the join it, but just the solid one David Serrano, and yeah, you actually hook three nice Brown's landed two of them and the other one got off with lures heard. So if your kid catch a nice Brown, and, and he's got a recall and his mouth, you know who left there. Of course. Hopefully it's floating somewhere along the Bank by now. But Spaulding is, you know, it's known as already Brown trout lake. It gets tough when the summer gets here, but it's also got supposedly king salmon. Now, I don't know. I mean I know they haven't planet king salmon there in a while, but they seem to have a successful spawned from time to time. So quite frankly, I don't know if that's an effect or not. So if you find out let me know because I used to be a pretty good salmon lake. They cut some nice salmon there anyway. Ed, just shows you, you can fish year round in the kayaks that they have out. And, and speaking of that, well, adventure sports has got a beautiful kayak nine oh, this is now David Sorrento has a Hobie pedal. And so had a service absorption of one hundred and twenty one percent, meaning it covered one hundred twenty one percent of all the bills of opening the dealership every month. And so Monet ever had to sell a new or used car? He was making profit just all the cars coming in. And that's why mo- didn't have his car's floorplans anywhere. He paid for them when they came in. Mode did not floor plan is used cars. Mo- owned his own leasing company, and he put up his own money to lease a car. I remember. And so while I'm working for him. And I gotta make this quick he'd gone on an Oldsmobile trip. And mo- only had one credit card. Just what? I know this going and he went on this Oldsmobile trip, which he never went on these trips of all he was over there. His credit card expired. And so he goes to check out and they say, I'm sorry, you cards expired. He didn't know this is a man that looked at his financial statement, twelve hours a day and didn't know his visa had expired. Well, he was embarrassed. And again, this guy was you take a bullet to work for matter. He was that good of a guy. And so he's embarrassed while the other dealers just put on my credit card mo- mail me a check. Well, he came what happened was he told the hotel call my Bank for or national and they'll approve it. Here's my officer there, and they wouldn't do it. And so the other guy paid came sandwich. He was embarrassed comes involves and asked my ex-father in-law was still running continental downtown. I said, yeah, they said would you call them and see if come out here, we're going to move our counts? I'm not making this story up folks so called Bob he and John Stevenson, the president bang came out talked mow came in thanked me this gonna move your council over well about three months later. We're still getting checks on Fort Worth national Bank. So I called him. And I said I thought we're going to move our counts, and he said the FDIC's not done with the audit yet to make sure the Bank can handle it. Did you know that story? That wasn't the story. I thought, but I totally believe it I had so much money because as you know, he never spent money he he was never frivolous. Never went on trips. He never bought new clothes. He had his home at eagle lake and he came to work and his was just that financial statement. And so he had so much money for with national to this day, folks. I don't know how much I didn't ask it was my business, but the FDIC had to make sure the Bank would be solved when he moved to. Yeah. Great. Well, it was just mo- matter. And he wasn't very nice, man. And when when you had a huge month, and he'd bring that huge paycheck in he would thank you. For helping them out. And I'd worked for dealers who were good dealers. They hand you that big paycheck, and you had a new pay plan the next month. Because it was too big. That was not mow without got around. I gotta take a break. John. Thanks have a good weekend. Yeah. Mo- was though is one thing about working for mo-. He was the first dealer. I worked for that. Literally new his financial statement backwards and forwards he got up about two o'clock in the morning. Good sleep, and he would be the dealership at three or three thirty in the morning going over the natural statement. Now, a lot of people that are that anal retentive would use it against you. Right percentage is wrong. He just wanted to know that we're all the money was and about twice a day to run out of his back office, which was right by my office. Go into see our comptroller and argue about a nickel that was out of place. And then the would finally move the nickel into the account most that needed to be moved into and he was happy, and he did that all day long. So very quickly. I had eight deal come up. We were out of Owl's age, and I needed five of them and the five that I needed were up in McKinney back loan one Twenty-one was stop and go the whole time. So I gathered up my porters I sent him off to McKinney. The guy around the old store of the time. A guy named Mike blood were had been around the business forever. He said fine. I don't even want to dealer trades. Just send you guys up here by the cars from you can deliver well somewhere along the way coming back. My boys all manage to hit each other. And total the five cars. So I have to come in the next day and explained matter how my guys who I loved were pure idiots that day and manage to run into each other. Nobody was hurt. It's not like they flipped him. They just all spun out on gravel and total five cars MO. Just looked at me. Then he started thinking and thinking and thinking he goes, okay? We're good. I so all insurance claim he goes, I don't have driveway insurance. And I went well, we've total five cars. He goes. Yeah. But I've never had the driveway insurance. We've never had a wreck. He says I was figuring. Here's much is saved an insurance premiums over the years, and that was a whole lot more that I saved and it's going to cost us on these cars. So we're good. We got all the wrecks out at one time for fine. Any walked off that was it name anybody else that would do that? He did later ask if any of the guys were told no we're good there..
