It Gets Worse Before It Gets Better

"Let me begin with the stock market news because it dominated yesterday. It's going to dominate today. The stock market this morning are rising all across the world after the fed raised interest rates yesterday and shares plummeted. And now it was down 550 points. The NASDAQ was off a 190. The S&P was down 65. Gold, by the way, is a 1978. It went up because interest rates went up. Ten years up to 3.5. This morning, moments ago, it was announced on the Financial Times. That Norway and Switzerland are raising rates. The reason is, inflation hasn't gone anywhere. And even though some banks are wobbly, it had been caught unawares that interest rates were riding. I guess they don't listen to any conservative media. Because we've been talking about rising interest rates on this show for four years and I suppose everyone has the fact that they were low under Donald Trump, they remain low during COVID, and they were low in Joe Biden became president, and now they've skyrocketed because of that first unnecessary, four or $5 trillion of money, Joe Biden, I'm FDR phase, just powered the money supply, and inflation resulted. Never hit double digits, got up into the 9s, back at 6 right now, but the fed knows it's not over yet. So they raise the rates and the markets went down.

Higher cancer rates found in military pilots, ground crews

"A new study from The Pentagon finds that not only do military pilots have higher rates of cancer. So do ground crews that maintain the aircraft. A yearlong study of nearly 900,000 U.S. service members involved in aviation compared their rates of different cancers to others. And finds a 24% increase overall. When it comes to melanoma, the flight group had an 87% higher rate and thyroid cancer was 39% higher. The data has been long sought by retired military aviators who have been raising alarms for years, but were told that previous military studies found no higher rate of cancer than in the general population. The second phase of this study will isolate potential causes and look to identify carcinogens

Minnesota Lt. Gov.: Good Parenting Is Accepting Kids' Sexual Identity

"Governor says you, parent, you have a responsibility to accept that child, no matter what they say. So you have to accept that child as a girl even though he is a boy. Now, I don't know about you, but I've been around children. I was a child once myself, and you go through stages. You go through phases as a child. There are some days when you think you are an astronaut. There are some days when you think you are a fire truck. So my question is, to the lieutenant governor, if we are to accept these children at face value with their personal identities, what exactly are we supposed to do? How far do we go to play along to humor the children? For example, I mean, if you're going out for lunch at Chick-fil-A and your kid identifies as a fire truck, are you gonna drop by the Chevron station? And get him a gallon of gasoline? I don't think so. But the lieutenant governor of Minnesota says, if you don't do that, well, you are a bad parent cut number one. Because let's be clear, this is life affirming and life saving healthcare. When our children tell us who they are. It is our job as grown-ups to listen and to believe them. That's what it means to be a good parent. So the lieutenant governor was giving that speech at an event marking the signing of an executive order that now establishes Minnesota as a trans refuge. So if you are transgender, I you can go to Minnesota and they're going to affirm you.

NASA Webb telescope captures star on cusp of death

"NASA released a new image from the James Webb Space Telescope, the telescope is captured the rare and fleeting phase of a star. The light from that star has been traveling through space for about 15,000 years. NASA's amber strong says the material seen around the wolf rayet star that looks like dust is dust. The star is dying. But the end of a star's life, they shed their outer material. Their outer layers out into the rest of the universe. Shimmering in purple like a cherry blossom, the star may be dying, but the dust will live on. Spreading out into the cosmos and will eventually create planets. And this is how we got here, in fact. NASA says this star in the constellation Sagittarius is 30 times as massive as our sun and already has shed enough material to account for ten suns. I'm Ed Donahue

David Goldman Unpacks the Concept of a Moscow-Beijing Axis

"Idea of a Moscow Beijing access is that pie in the sky are these people really friends or are these just strange bedfellows out of convenience because of the current situation in Ukraine. Well, it's convenience, but it's a very powerful kind of convenience because if Russia is treated as a pariah state whose leaders are accused of war crimes and in the case of failure, phase Nuremberg tribunal, they will do everything in their power, including make enormous concessions to China, no matter how much they dislike China in order to survive. So yes, it's convenience, but it's a very compelling kind of convenience, survival is a kind of convenience, but a very special one. But how do they look at each other? I mean, you've written the book, you will be assimilated, so this is your tome on China's plan to sign a form the world, Russia is just another nation they wish to have as a tributary. They wish to have pole position, correct? Remember that Russia graduates more engineers each year than we do in absolute numbers, and they're good. Maybe 10% of them have emigrated because of their distaste for Putin's war. But 90% are still there. A third of Russian students study engineering. So Russia represents an enormous pool of technological talent, especially in the military sphere.

In Russia-Ukraine war, more disastrous path could lie ahead

"On the one year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, both sides are preparing for a potentially more disastrous phase of the war that may lie ahead. For Russia, the year has brought forceful attacks and humiliating retreats, Ukraine has countered with fierce resistance. However, more recently Russia has intensified its push to capture all of Ukraine's eastern donbas region with many in Ukraine and the west, fearing a wider attack to come along the front line, war experts Justin bronc believes that Russia will try to disrupt the Ukrainian counteroffensive. The bad outcome is it, as it were, is that Ukraine runs out of steamers unable to take back most of the remaining occupied territory before that new wave of Russian trained mobilizes and industrial equipment starts to come in at the end of the year. And at that point, we're headed towards, I think, a long-term stalemate. Speaking earlier this year, former NSC official Fiona hill believes Russia won't back down easily. "Gordon tran Gordon, welcome back to America first one on one. Thank you so much, doctor G, all right, you've got to follow this man right off the bat at Gordon G Chang. You got to check out his latest publication, the great U.S. China tech war. But let's start with propaganda, Gordon. Let's start with the smooth I owe the information operations that China is engaged in. This is a TikTok video. I found yesterday on Monday. I used it on the show. And it's pretty good. It is making a mockery of Biden's military actions against the Chinese surveillance vessel, play cuts. So it's a CGI animation. Of course, using stealing the music of Mission Impossible, showing our raptor aircraft, dodging around trying to shoot down the balloon missing the balloon, turning its camera backwards, taking a photograph of the pilot. I have to start by saying, go, and that's pretty slick. That's pretty good information operations. Yes, this is about the third phase of China's propaganda on this. The first phase was to say, we regret the incident and, you know, it was just a weather balloon. Second phase was to get really upset, threatened retaliation. And the third phase has been mockery. The fourth phase, which we learned on Monday, was that, oh, the United States has been sending spy balloons over China in 2022, which is obviously untrue. But this very slick video is phase three.

"So let Mike and his team in Harwood Financial Group, take a look at the plan that you have in place and make sure that it's working for you the best way possible concerning the market concerning upcoming healthcare costs changes in taxes. All that stuff is all part of that Big review, so it's a complimentary CPR. And again If you saved $500,000, you can get one. It's complimentary by calling 813 to 129727813 to 1297 to 7. I don't know if you heard this. But Apple has recently enlisted eight states in a new program that allows people to quote unquote seamlessly and securely add their driver's license or State ideas to their apple wallet, and they can use it at airport security checkpoints. Now you know a lot of folks who are leery of all that cyberspace information out there and not sure if this is a helpful or a bad thing, But to me, it's kind of mind blowing that this is where we are with technology. So I gotta ask you might as far as investing goes, Do you think technology advancements have helped or hindered the average guy out there trying to invest? I think it's a little bit of both. To be honest with you. You know, it's no one thing you know, For instance, technology investing is not all good or all bad. I think there are parts of it where you know people have access to information instantaneously. Now where that didn't happen in the past, and I have seen people they get sort of addicted to watching the market and I don't necessarily think that that's a good thing. But technology that makes your life easier and gives you advantage is a good thing. For instance. I love this license thing, right? I don't want to caramelize so I don't have to. I think it's great. Well, yeah, I mean, what's the difference? Really to me on this one? It's what's the difference. So you get a flash that or you're going to say I hate to tell people but you know your info is out there. Yeah. Yeah, but listen, for instance, there are things now that we do here at the firm that we couldn't have done a few years ago. You know, we talked to people about looking for opportunities to save taxes. You know, I'll have somebody you know, Upload to me a secure link in electronic copy of their tax return. We get analyzed in a matter of an hour and get them back for report and look for opportunities. You know that couldn't have happened a few years ago. Without technology, it would have been a big deal would have been. Let's call the accountant. Let's have him. Review it and so forth. This thing happens almost instantaneously. Somebody sends me that at nine o'clock in the morning, you know, I've got a report back form at 11 o'clock. It's pretty cool. Wow, that that that is pretty amazing because I do You know what I think about the technology for investing? I think about, you Know, day traders that started years ago, Right? When people started doing that, at home, they can sit on their computer They could look at like you said pretty much watched the market all the time. So I think about a guy like that, or somebody else is trying to do his own investing thing. I'm one of those guys who really believes, like, you know, I don't know what I don't know. And I love to have people who do know working with me. Yeah, listen, that's what we're here for. Listen, the whole technology thing again. I think that's what people think of they think of the online trading apps and You know Robert unicorns and all that kind of stuff, and some of those things are good and some are bad. But from our perspective from the advisory space perspective, it's the things that allow us to expand our services to people in a more efficient way. For instance, that tax thing I was just talking about, uh, estate planning documents. You know, we've got a system now We're where we can have somebody fill out a questionnaire and it'll make suggestions regarding Estate planning, and they can then take that to their own attorney or or we can refer them to somebody, or they can do it right online, right? They've. It's just it makes things so much easier when used properly. Absolutely absolutely, and estate planning is a whole other issue that we can spend almost the whole show on and how important that is for everybody, and I always try to. It's really funny as you go through each phase of your life, right? Everything matters to you at that time, right when you're when you're in your twenties, you're just getting started, and you're excited to learn this because that's what's going to keep you going out in the world. Then you have kids, and everything that was important suddenly isn't because now you've kept things for your now I'm at a point in my life where my kids are grown and gone, And I'm looking to the future and things like a state planning matter to me. Uh, it's never anything any of us want to do, right. I mean, it's not something you want to sit down and plan. The end of your days, right? But it's also one of the most important things we can do to make sure that a a work comfortable as we get older and be our family, for lack of a better term isn't gonna get screwed in the long run right when we're gone. But you know, to get back to a shocking about technology, right? You're talking about you. You don't really want to get to it. It's kind of a pain in the neck. It's it's cumbersome. That's what technology does when it's used properly makes that process a lot easier. It makes you less procrastinate right? Because it doesn't have to be this big, daunting task anywhere. We can get it done fairly fairly easily through the use of technology. Absolutely, And when it comes to a state planning and I've been through this, it's um you know it does make it easier. It's one of those things Like I said before that we don't want to do because nobody wants to sit down and Plan out the end of their life. But if you don't do it, things can get kind of messy When that time finally comes So again, the folks at Harwood Financial Group are here to help you with all the stuff we're talking about. Today. The number is 813. 2129727813 21297 to 7. Mike and his team are there to give you a hand. We got team members standing by right now, so give him a call. As soon as you can talk with you off the air about your retirement situation. And do you have a true retirement plan? I'm i'm doing well. How 'bout you i'm doing. Great due to show honor to meet you. Glad to have you here man. I'll tell you. I listened to the album. It was amazing. Also musicians you to he got. He got he's multi-talented man strong demand. It's amazing so more more. A production produce a musician by dude. I when it moved rhythm is off for me to stay here for a black man with no real honesty. Yeah but you know the the mix tape came together really well. So far we have Three singles out one song in to jokes and then we're going to have some more stuff dropping soon and then the overall mix tape comes out in june he literally. I've never heard something like that where you put the jokes in the musical and also the jokes and music are fire. Also the about starting out hilarious. He went to home depot to buy x. Access to big. I hope i'm not given to way. I don't want to give too much away now. So you're fine it's all it's all out. There now will be weird. If i got upset if i was like. Why are you trying to promote for a whole month. Why are you here. it's amazing they go. You know what. I've i've always heard people give this long thought process through buying a gun like for me. It's just like my ken. Never i want that one okay is on paper and we go but like the bottom part was like a long process and it was hilarious as it ended with the guy stealing his gun gun. Robinson him with a gun is hilarious Like he's brilliant and then it goes because people talk about that but a lot of people would have get their taken from like. It's actually way more common that you think it's it's at say on the on the fbi says the having a gun really changed the home invasion situation emma statistics now especially if you try to. Here's the if you're it if you're going to try to keep a gun at your house for self you cannot be defeated from yourself. You're going to have the gun. You got to have the gun just all. You gotta be under your basically you. You have a higher likelihood of killing yourself by accident if you use the gun properly and just have it ready at all times. You are of the person bringing your house and kill you because you know. The other reason that doesn't change the outcome is that people are out here. Just having the bullets at the top of the closet and the gun in talks in the kitchen as like okay so now dow. I got a sleek pass. This dude you might as well have home-loan trap said if you're going to go to all this trouble just have a regular good because the person were suming has a gun and he came. Ready is cocktail. Safety is off everything and so now you gotta go get the gun. Hopefully your lock box doesn't have one of those clink clink sounds because he's found. You know. now you unlock it out of the live bugs. Now you gotta go get the bullets that are in the same room. 'cause maybe you got kids or whatever you gotta go get the bullets and pray. You don't drop these bullets. just pray. they don't drop bounce like skittles. You try to get them out of the box larger gun like you have to. You have to stay ready at staying. Ray means you're sleeping with a gun under your ear. Like most people is not going to your to snores away. I sleep to on grabbed the gun and shoots a whole like gonna be like you put yourself in you eight. Wake up i i. I don't personally. I slide my hand under my pillow sometimes. Not real over same thing. That's what they say is a shotgun so you don't have to do our aim this stuff because most people can't hang goes anyway shotgun. Just yeah the the thing about his shotgun to is this like only thing. I will say about getting a shock. You're gonna hit everything. So i hope nothing that you like or love his baha where you're trying to shoot like if this if this is one of those to the booby scenarios where they've taken hostages like ooh you kill everybody because there is no precision. Like don't care about anybody in front of that gun at that point when out because everybody gone everybody especially these people will make like sawed offs and stuff like that for like so you're just trying to make a bomb bomb yup yup that would have less precision. That will we start. Which already wasn't good. Also we've got the jokes her that i love but also got some really far as music on some good music. Do i take a scholar. Thank you. I do wait. No no no no no no. That's not that's not be say give. We like have been thinking. Be this week and i put that whole day while they're and everything there's a there's a. There's a great musician artists out of chicago named grew box and grew boxes. Actually on four of the tracks in the mix tape so it's going like one or two of my jokes one or two of my jokes and then enter looting those group box and he handles like the first arc of the of a mix tape which is basically like a love story told him parts. You know like each phase. Because i find like a lot of my friends know better. We all have friends their relationships and no better who you're talking about. One of them is in one of those phases. There's like phase one where nobody can tell you anything about anything. You're like no. I love the. They're perfect. They got they got they got. They even have good years. You know like even their ears acute all that stuff face to is when you find out that they're human and they're like i Was was wrong with you. Like here's like we start paying attention to the problems that stuff because now it's like okay do you. Do you cheat cheat because you you save like you cheat Ever phase three. where you almost. There's a there's there's in every relationship there's a part of you or there's a time where you feel like you've lost a bit of control of where this thing is going. You know. I hope for most people. It's not this but just as an example it's like you just sorta wake up one day and it's been like eight years. You're like wow. This is this. I've been doing this for so long. I do anything else you know. That's kind of the third phase in the fourth phase. Is that that war. Are we gonna make it or are we. Not you know like that. That sort of that solidify. I'm in this or i'm not you know. And that's what group boxes is taken us through throughout.

"The right. the right dipoto each phase. So he'll go into a standing phase and then he'll go to banish phase. We'll get to the banish phase in a bit the blue portal cost will take this oral warlock that spanish train life. So you say the best ideas to take five stacks of this and then move ow. Let the boss take five stacks and then you move back in that kind of thing. You need obviously multiple constas for this. If you're not using the warlock strap and this goes to the same with the red portal. You obviously want your tank to move in and out of this report to because they will have negative effects in that kind of thing and the green poll to the other tank console this as well or any. He'll if they wished to do so and this should never be soaked by anyone as it will rapidly hill the boss if it is not soaked so definitely make sure that this one is. I got someone between it because you don't want that to happen. But the punish phase is who go up into the known can really attack him but you can attack him. But i think most people are choosing to just run away in outrage his breath because the breath does damage. So he'll just go up into thea. No portuguese will respond. And he'll just randomly talk it people with the breath lights never storm breath or something and it would damage. You can just outrage this. You can huddle in a corner with an got back into way. He is and pick up your pool. Choose from there. Just make sure that you give your tank a good time to pick it up. And you don't don't blasting immediately because it is a s- threat reset so you don't want to go crazy with that but that's cameras on something to be. Honest is very much something. It's good fund his fund learning all the different pose is the fun learning bussing head against it. Sometimes it can be bit grinding sometimes. But you'll get there in the end so moving onto groups. This is the twenty five man dungeon dungeon right so this one has the definitely not as big. But you've got to bosses and the first boasts is basically a council type fight. You have a bosses technically and these old of them. So you've got kicked the christ blind eye the hiking moga own semina- and crossfire hand. So basically going through these kill order by the way so blind. The see is the fuss. Talk it to kill. All you have to do is count to spell his heel and he can be stunned as well. This can be tanked by any kind of tank. The second kill target is on the summer and the warlock oca- and we have to do. Is spanish fear..

"Should they care so in a sense you're building your case for the importance of what you're sharing for example in that episode. I'm using as an example. Three seventy one. After sharing the what i say i deeply believe that when you are intentional about crafting your customer journey. It makes them feel important in loved a cultivates fond feelings and when you nurture them along their way they feel like your present with them that they matter and aren't just another number. And then i go on to share that repeat. Customers are worth ten times more than their first purchase. So when you're clear on your customer journey and how you'll move them from one offer to the next you're spending time on something that will increase your revenue and create consistent revenue. So i'm telling them not just the what but the why okay next. We're going to bulk up your content with the how the how of your content is a step by step to how your students or audience members can apply what you're teaching to their own lives. This can be considered the how the guide the instructions. The words are all interchangeable here. What's important is that you're providing them with a roadmap that delivers a clear and intentional flow from start to finish for example an episode. Three seventy one. The core the episode is broken down into four phases attraction nurture promotion in on boarding with each phase. I give specific examples of how to apply each phase to your business. Take the nurture face for example which is all about how to build a relationship with your community after they've opted into your email list within that section of content. I talk about specific vehicles. You can use to nurture your audience members such as newsletters or leave magnates weekly content a facebook group stuff like that so within this section you wanna make sure your super specific give concrete examples if possible. I want to stop here for a minute and tell you that. I really do think that this often sets me apart from my competition. But i don't want to act as though it's easy so when i say give specifics give examples paint the picture for them. Typically i have to go the extra mile when i do that. Meaning it's easy just to tell them real quick how to do it. But then i stopped myself and i say okay. Can i grab an example from my own life or maybe from one of my students or wait a second. Could i break this down a little bit more. What will they may be not know that. I'm assuming they would know a such a great question when you create any kind of instruction and he kinda guide kind of step by step after you create it like. It's still in draft mode. Ask yourself. am. I assuming anything that i think. They probably already know but maybe they don't am. I not breaking it down enough. Am i skipping an important decision or insight. That i just assume they know but many probably don't do. I need another story here. Do i need an example. And sometimes you make up the examples. They don't have to always be real if you don't have enough to pull from but sometimes i'll make an example like i'm famous for saying like well if dr trainer then you might want to do this or that for your digital courses like you can make things up based on your experiences and knowledge but this is what sets you apart. This is when you become a teacher that people keep going back to again and again because you slow down and you actually hold their virtual hand through it. i think. that's what sets us apart from our competition. All right. let's keep going next up and last on your content flow is where you share the proof. That means you're taking the how and you're showing how you apply it in your own business through real.

"Because every saturday is funk tells me the funk oh news of the day or the week and i think he jumped like one hundred and fifty dollars more this week. but loki. Show do the one that pops. 'cause i have like two or three that i had this del john's vision like just these common. Nothing pops are just fucking went up. I'm like why okay. But why watching all the different series go through and watching different pops that would literally were zero. Like ten bucks. Couldn't get rid of them to now. They're like over to three hundred dollars. Just because scariest closing sales like thanks and the now it's two hundred bay. This is good. This is good for me. Yeah yeah it. Low key and their mitchell vendors are one of those ones but those are the ones that whole set a metal value to us. Because like i said those were. I mean back when we first. We had moved out of my parent's house out of college. Those were like the first ones we had on our shelves in our apartment. You know like oh babies you know like that's the start of our collection But like i said avengers really the start of that. i mean. We got a battle in with low key. Which i was sold with loki. You could give me. He's one of my favorite villains. But i think bruins no no nelson step you trace. The each phase was a step up. In batty's in i think loki was that great one to start us out with because he wasn't truly like evil bad he was just misguided misunderstood at. You know just like okay. We ended up liking him a few days later. God of trick sir. Trickster look idiot. God i missed him because it because i think in norse mythology. He's gotta stop her. That's what i'm referring to But yeah i liked. It's a weird karrada. Play with because being a god of you know that kind of innately always have to have him do sort of evil. Things are mess with things. But then how do you explain someone doing that. Besides like that's the god of what he does. I guess And i think they've done that pretty well. I can definitely see some people. I think i've heard it a few times. Just like he's just so back and forth. And i think that is part of his character. It's kind of hard to nail down. But i think done a pretty good job of it. I actually am a really big fan of Infinity war. He's only in it for like what twenty thirty seconds and a lotta people hate that like hate to storm where it just didn't care for it. I absolutely loved that scene because it perfectly rounds out his entire character. I could story within the matter of like three lines.

"Not only is good for the animals but it also has a monetary benefit because when animals i mean visitors see the animals happy and playing. They're more like to donate money and go back right. We've all been there when you see an like. Oh in so. There has been a call for behavior. Analytic methodology in zoo assessment and implementation. Because in richmond is happening but assessment is not so they made this assessment called this assessment framework called spider love zipping around for old. Yeah so this is all part of the intro. Yes so set. Goals plan implement take data evaluate and then revise if necessary which i love an. They noted that having a preference assessment might be a really important part of enrichment programs. 'cause right now what they see is that staff is take general. General animal generally like to do when they don't look at the individual animals so that's really what this purpose was to design a free print preference assessment paradigm to look at preferred play items for tigers and they use both sent and items the sensor hilarious by the way so the tigers were residents of an animal sanctuary. They were between six and sixteen years old. Mostly female there's two males and they were bengals tigers. They were previously performing tigers and suffered abuse and deprivation off. One tiger lived in a basement for her whole life tiger basement. I don't know and once you get it there. You never wanted to take it back. Throws me man. You don't open that door job out yet. Horrible breeding tiger so they just use it for breeding in leasing out for other circus animal tigers and so when that tiger got to the animal sanctuary was the first time it ever saw sunlight. Right gross i know so that tiger also lived with two other tigers and when they tried to separate them. All the tigers were distressed So they all live together as good in a big enclosed social creatures. Yes you want to separate them and have them close together but not to Do to like aggression food. I guess territory but for these three. It didn't work that way. Though three was house together the other ones were house alone with tigers on both sides so they could see them but they couldn't fight with them so they did a free opera preference assessment with each tiger each phase was five minutes each and they scored touching contacting the items with partial recording so the first phase looked at preferred sense on pumpkins. So pumpkins i guess were very prevalent. It was probably fall. It's missouri so they put some sense on pumpkins. the sense were cinnamon. And calvin klein of chechen sure obviously. Ck was he came. Oh nazi k. One category script yes. I thought that was funny. And i guess that's what they commonly use the sanctuary. Like i guess do tigers loves cow incline obsession or just. That's what they have on taylor's white diamonds. That's what they had on hand. And i think they're assessing it so so what about gap dream right or gap grass for that. One dream was getting. Grass was in mind but i loved graphic smelling. Yeah but anyway. They used three to four pumps. And i was like that's in high school.

"Offers an explanation for one of surveillance. Capitalism's most alarming traits it's relentless hunger for data and it's endless expansion of data gathering capabilities through the spread of sensors online surveillance an acquisition of data streams from third parties zubov observed phenomenon and concludes. The data must be very valuable if surveillance capitalism is so hungry for it in her words just as industrial capitalism was driven to the continuous intensification of the means of production so surveillance capitalists and their market players are now locked into the continuous intensification of the means of behavioral modification and the gathering might of instrumentarium power. But what if the voracious appetite is because data has such a short half life because people become inured so quickly to new data driven persuasion techniques that companies are locked in an arms race with our limbic system. What if it's a red queen's race where they have to run ever faster collect evermore data just to stay in the same spot of course all of big data's persuasion techniques work in concert with one. Another and collecting data is useful beyond mere behavioral trickery. If someone wants to recruit you to buy a refrigerator or join a pogrom they might use profiling targeting to send messages to people. They judge to be good sales prospects. The messages themselves may be deceptive making claims about things that you're not very knowledgeable about food safety and energy efficiency or eugenics and historical claims about racial superiority. They might use search engine optimization and armies of fake reviewers and commenters and or paid placement to dominate the discourse so that any search for further information takes you back to their messages and finally they may refine the different pitches using machine learning and other techniques to find out what kind of pitch works. Best on someone like you each phase of this process benefits from surveillance the more data they have the more precisely they can profile you and target specific messages. Think of how. You'd sell a fridge if you knew that the warranty on your prospects fridge just expired and they were expecting tax rebate in april also the more data. They have the better. They can craft deceptive messages. If i know that you're into genealogy i might not try to feed you pseudoscience about genetic differences between races sticking instead to conspiratorial secret histories of demographic replacement and the like facebook also helps locate people who have the same odious or antisocial views. As you it makes it possible to find other people who want to carry tiki torches through the streets of charlottesville in confederate caused play. It can help you find other people. Want to join your militia and go to the border to look for undocumented migrants to terrorize. It can help you find people who share your belief that vaccines are poison and that the earth is flat. There is one way in which targeted advertising uniquely benefits those advocating for socially unacceptable causes. It is invisible. Racism is widely geographically dispersed and there are few places where racists and racists gather. This is similar to the problem of selling refrigerators and that potential refrigerator. Purchasers are geographically dispersed and there are a few places where you can buy an ad that will be primarily seen by refrigerator customers but buying a refrigerator is socially acceptable while being nazi is not so you can buy billboard advertising the newspaper sports section for your refrigerator business and the only potential downside is that your i will be seen by a lot of people who don't want refrigerators resulting in a lot of wasted expense. But if you advertise your nazi movement on a billboard or prime time tv or the sports section you would struggle to find anyone willing to sell you the space for your ad partly because they disagree with your views and partly because they fear censure boycott reputational damage etcetera from other people who disagree with your views targeted ads. Solve this problem on the internet. Every ad unit can be different for every person. Meaning that you can buy. That are only shown to people who appear to be nazis and not people who hate nazis where they're spillover when someone who hates. Racism is shown a racist recruiting add. There is some fallout the platform republication might get an angry public or private denunciation but the nature of the risk assumed by an online ad buyer is different than the risks to a traditional publisher or billboard owner who might want to run a nazi ad online ads are placed by algorithms that broker between a diverse ecosystem of self serve ad platforms that anyone can buy ads through. So the nazi that slips onto your favourite online publication isn't seen as their moral failing but rather as a failure in some distant upstream at supplier when a publication gets a complaint about an offensive ad that's appearing in one of its units. It can take some steps to block that ad but the nazi might by slightly different ad from a different broker serving the same unit in any event internet users increasingly. Understand that when they see an. It's likely that the advertiser did not choose that publication and that the publication has no idea who has advertisers are these layers of indirection between advertisers and publishers of moral buffers. Today's moral consensus has largely. That publishers shouldn't be held responsible the ads that appear on their pages because they're not actively choosing to put those ads there because of this nazis are able to overcome significant barriers to organizing their movement. Data has a complex relationship with domination. Being able to spy on your customers can alert you to their preferences for your rivals and allow you to head off your rivals at the pass more importantly if you can dominate the information space while also gathering data then you make other deceptive tactics stronger because it's harder to break out of the web of deceit. You're spinning domination. That is ultimately becoming a monopoly and not. The data itself is the super charger. That makes every tactic worth pursuing because monopolistic domination. Deprives your target of an escape route if you're a nazi who wants to ensure that your prospects primarily deceptive confirming information. When they search for more you can improve your odds by seeding the search terms that they us through your initial communications. You don't need to own the top ten results for voter suppression if you can convince your marks to confine their search terms to voter fraud which throws up a very different set of search results. Surveillance capitalists are stage mental lists who claim that their extraordinary insights into human behavior. Lets them guessed the word that you wrote down and folded up in your pocket but who really used chills hidden cameras sleight of hand and brute force memorization to amaze you or perhaps they're more like pickup artists the misogynistic culture that promises to help awkward men have sex with women by teaching them neuro linguistic programming phrases body language techniques and psychological manipulation tactics like offering unsolicited negative feedback to women to lower their self esteem and prick their interest. Some pickup artists eventually managed to convince women to go home with them. But it's not because these men have figured out had a bypass women's critical faculties rather pick up artists. Success stories are mix of women who are incapable of giving consent women who coerced women who are intoxicated. Self destructive women and a few women who are sober and commanded their faculties. But who didn't realize straightaway that they were with terrible men rectify the error as soon as they could pick up artists believe that they have figured out a secret back door that bypasses women's critical faculties but they haven't many of the tactics. They deploy nagging became the butt of jokes. Just like people joke about bad ad targeting. And there's a good chance that anyone they try these tactics on will immediately recognize them.

"I mean. That's probably the single most prevalent plot type in the cam. Right it up with dick it's the slide nearly all the income plots like this edict and kingdom right. Those are the basic ones like i think kingdom is probably the most common. Maybe but like it's up there. It's it's fighting against summer. I'm sure this is really bad. Designs face it's both of these cycles. This cycle and the one in in cycle three or in set three is really just bad they. They shouldn't exist. Even the ones didn't land like shadow in the north in super lan and shadow the wall fleet land. But that just because they didn't land doesn't mean i mean pit of opinion by at shadow of the south didn't land like probably the only ones that really landed was a very large shadow and And the target one but the fact that even those two landed and if you played against them when they went off. You're just like why plane this gimmick i'm gonna have the same effect over and over and over and over again and like multiple turns it just creates same. I just like the sameness like it's bad designed space. It's just very very bad. That should be avoided in future. Yeah i mean you just you have to be very careful with anything repeatable. Of course And i said shadows had a built in limiter on shadows right one shadows card. The start of each phase. The would have really deeply reigned in something like these effects But it almost feels to me like they were designed for ipad shadows and nobody stopped and said hey by the way We changed the shadows rules for second. Yeah i think it's also just like i think it was. I think sometimes in thrones. There's like thrones designed finitely people. Don't think about play patterns. They think more specifically about its pave pansy abstract. They might think like okay like playing scheme. Plots at this point scheme plots been mostly out valued. So lancaster isn't going to frequently do this right. Or what's the the tyrel one right like or the stark one right like. There's some kind of opportunity costs specifically in that interaction rather thinking on a broader level. This level of repetitive..

"Seconds if you could bridge. Would you mind putting each phase the chat So the the the first phase is identification and it is about identifying what is the. What is the the problem that we are trying to solve. Because normally we're asking the wrong questions when we're looking for innovation and so what we need to do is we actually start with our why questions And a classic example this is small groups when small groups aren't working will say something. Like how do i fix my small groups on but actually the thing that we need to start with the in identification. Why did we start small groups in the first place like what was the original. It's mauger was trying to saul because it might. If you're trying to get people to stay at your church that's a different answer and would lead to different innovation than we are trying to start a disciple making rufa. Those would lead you in two very different directions so identifying the innovation you're going after is your first base second phase is ita shen and that's just about coming up with new forms practices ideas paradigm shifts that you can actually test in put into practice so at the end of ignition. You actually have something very very simple that you're going to use in the third phase which is experimentation. So i want to experiment with this idea of a new form of making disciples who could make disciples or new evangelism strategy. Or i mean filling the blank. It could be anything you want to experiment with to actually make sure that it does the thing that you think could do now. Let's say that it actually works. You're like oh my gosh. We've we've we've tried it enough. Times made tweaks and adjustments. It's now working face. Four is a mobilization and so it's worked now the thing that we're now asking. Why did it work. And what were the different components of how this thing works because if we could understand it and if we could make it really simple we can train people and we can co defy..

"Yeah i mean. I think what i really appreciated about my career is that in each phase really have learned something very new and in this operational role. There's no question that now. Being the one in the hot seat so to speak having to drive different sustainability initiatives having to do all the work that relates to governance to communicate with all of our key stakeholders. All of that is now coming out of my team. And it's just a great experience to be able to work with the growers in the greenhouse that construction team the it team and really help integrate sustainability into all those different functions. And i i love it. I mean i love the of being on the i love the work to really bring the science and financial analysis together because ultimately i think that's really a big part of sustainability and and then you know come up with a strategy that is gonna make us a better and better company by the way i forgot to ask you. Why appalachia you mentioned that. It sounds like it's economic development zone if you will but but y y you know there's a lot of other places you could have done this. I mean what what was the what was the paradigm that made apple apple. It's pronounced appalachia. right what made appalachia work. Yeah well i mean it's it was Where our ceo grew up and a region he's passionate about and i think there's you know any number of advantages there the the rainwater being one the ability to build large horizontal greenhouses. It's got great land resources and it's got just an amazing workforce there so i think we're benefiting from all of those and of course geographically as i mentioned it's located within a day's drive of seventy percent of the us population so if you want resource-efficient locally grown fruits and vegetables kentucky's a great place to do it. No that's point by the way there's a group i heard about you. May you may get some workers from the coal industry to as they get less and less yet. There's a company there. I forget the name of it. That is training coal miners to be coders. And the of course. I i heard about that. I thought well there's no excuse for me now. So in enclosing we liked to give advice and we to give advice to mid career. Women say a woman who has maybe fifteen years of experience. She's got an understanding what she does. Well maybe what she doesn't do as well because we all have strengthen not she's got an education she wants to use them to make a difference. You sam vicious wants to make money you know want wants to advance. What what would you tell her. What advice would you give her. Well i think one thing is to take chances. And i think some of the most interesting experiences that i have said yes to i. I really had no idea how it's gonna work out. I didn't i. Didn't over think it i kind of you know went with the gut of just you know i like the people or the company or what they were doing and And i would learn a lot. So i think that test for. Is this going to stretch new ways. And i actually believe it or not. I have never the one time in my entire career. I took a job. Because i thought i should have that kind of job and it would be good for. My resume was the worst decision. I made and.

Hello everyone and welcome to status go. We're doing things a little bit differently in this episode as we tend to do from time to time back in november of two thousand twenty we all the cloud strategy. Summit and one more presenters ron. Peter had such an impactful discussion in such valuable insights that we wanted to adapt his presentation to a podcast format. So while things moved through a little differently. I think you're really going to get a lot out of this episode. He talks about pain points that led him to make the jump to the cloud. He goes through a timeline. That discusses their entire journey and connects the outcomes that came with each phase of the journey. So i think you're in for a real tree here. We go so. I have the unique pleasure of getting to introduce ron and having a little chat here. So ron teeter. He's the head of engineering at job. He has over the past twenty five plus years taken many roles in software development engineering architecture at companies like disney and apt in. He's got a tremendous amount of experience on prem. And i would say probably someone who has as much experience as possible in cloud based on how early job bite adopted. Aws so really excited to hear about his journey. Ron join job by twenty thirteen out. That was when their cloud journey began. He was able rise up the ranks from a senior architect to the head of engineering. Now and so. I think he's got a really unique and interesting story to tell about how the adoption of aws has gone within job by his learnings along the way. I know he's going to help you. Guys see out ahead. If you're earlier on in your journey and i think most importantly which is i. It can be elusive. He's gonna talk specifically about the outcomes that came from job bites adoption of the cloud. "And <Speech_Female> i'll include links to <Speech_Female> all of these in the <Speech_Female> show notes. Uk's can <Speech_Female> check it out there as <Speech_Female> well. <Speech_Female> So <SpeakerChange> chris <Speech_Male> we always ask one <Speech_Male> last question. <Speech_Female> What one piece of advice <Speech_Female> do you have for <Speech_Female> people younger than you <Speech_Female> or do you wish <SpeakerChange> you could go <Speech_Male> back and tell yourself <Speech_Male> to be curious. <Speech_Male> I <Speech_Male> look at how much <Speech_Male> good has come in my life. <Speech_Male> Because of curiosity <Speech_Male> the <Speech_Male> the constant drive <Speech_Male> to learn to <Speech_Telephony_Male> grow <Speech_Male> into absorb knowledge. <Speech_Male> How <Speech_Male> curiosity <Speech_Male> also <Speech_Male> fuels <SpeakerChange> the desire <Speech_Male> to heal division <Speech_Male> at to learn <Speech_Male> about someone <Speech_Male> else's story <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> one of my <Speech_Male> favorite quotes from eleanor <Speech_Male> roosevelt. <SpeakerChange> As <Speech_Male> do one thing every <Speech_Male> day. That scares you <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I <Speech_Male> started different <Speech_Male> together. I <Speech_Male> my written mending <Speech_Male> are union <Speech_Male> behind this. <Speech_Male> There's a lot <Speech_Male> of fear <Speech_Male> and Maybe something <Speech_Male> you know about. You've written a <Speech_Male> book. Started a podcast. <Speech_Male> These are <Speech_Male> these are fine <Silence> it is. <Speech_Male> We're <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> what were we <Speech_Male> thinking <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> At <Speech_Male> each phase. I found <Speech_Male> that my fears were unfounded. <Speech_Male> <hes> <Speech_Male> and then it's then it's onto <Speech_Male> the next stage <Speech_Male> of fears and those <Speech_Male> fears are unfounded <Speech_Male> in each time <Speech_Male> my my comfort <Speech_Male> zone increases <Speech_Male> and that <Speech_Male> has awakened <Speech_Male> a sense of endless <Speech_Male> possibility. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> So <Speech_Male> if <Speech_Male> we. I just <Speech_Male> feel if we approach <Speech_Male> life curiosity <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> leaning <Speech_Male> into <Speech_Male> discomfort <Speech_Male> fear. <Speech_Male> It's pretty amazing. <Speech_Male> What what <Speech_Male> what can happen <Speech_Female> in our lives and <Speech_Male> if only we <SpeakerChange> don't own <Speech_Male> that earlier right <Speech_Male> yes. I could <Speech_Male> have used the <Speech_Male> advice few <Speech_Female> years ago. <Speech_Female> I know but this is. <Speech_Female> This is the good stuff about <Speech_Female> getting older. <SpeakerChange> You get you <Speech_Female> get the keys to <Speech_Male> the kingdom of wisdom <Speech_Male> rights. <SpeakerChange> That's absolutely <Speech_Female> true. <Speech_Female> well jay. It's <Speech_Female> really important work. <Speech_Female> And i <Speech_Female> hope as we go into <Speech_Female> twenty twenty one <Speech_Female> we all recognize <Speech_Female> the steps <Speech_Female> that we can take <Speech_Female> to advance the ball down <Speech_Female> the field for more <Speech_Female> just and fair society <Speech_Female> and less stressful <Speech_Female> next presidential <Speech_Female> election. <Speech_Female> That's just me. <Speech_Female> That's my wish. <Speech_Male> Thank you so <Speech_Male> much. For being on the show chris <Speech_Male> thank. We can <Speech_Female> all play a part <Speech_Female> larger small <Speech_Female> in moving <Speech_Female> the ball down the field and <Speech_Female> fixing all <Speech_Female> the things that are broken <Speech_Female> this country. And i would say <Speech_Female> it's not just that we <Speech_Female> can but we're <Speech_Female> obligated to. <Speech_Female> I hope this conversation <Speech_Female> at least makes you <Speech_Female> hopeful that those small <Speech_Female> healing conversations <Speech_Male> might add <Speech_Female> up over time <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> speaking of healing conversations. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> I wondered if you listeners. <Speech_Female> Think well <Speech_Female> after a year <Speech_Female> of the pandemic that's <Speech_Female> it. i'm ruined for <Speech_Female> public circulation. <Speech_Female> Is that just me. <Speech_Female> I really think <Speech_Female> that sometimes my entire <Speech_Female> wardrobe <Speech_Female> these days is <Speech_Female> adult onesies from the <Speech_Female> gap and then over <Speech_Female> that. I put a long sweater <Speech_Female> like <Speech_Female> be arthur. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> I mean <Speech_Female> it's not my best. <Speech_Female> Look and yet i go out <Speech_Female> in public like that all <Speech_Female> the time with my <Speech_Female> mask because i figured <Speech_Female> nobody knows who <Speech_Female> i am anyway <Speech_Female> but really <Speech_Female> i mean in all seriousness. <Speech_Female> I wonder sometimes <Speech_Female> if we've been at <Speech_Female> this shelter <Speech_Female> in place along that we <Speech_Female> may have gotten out of the habit <Speech_Female> of interacting <Speech_Female> even <Speech_Female> with the people we <Speech_Female> know in love. <Speech_Female> So i'm excited <Speech_Female> to talk to my guest <Speech_Female> for the next show. <Speech_Female> Laura tremaine <Speech_Female> who's written a

"The ones <Speech_Female> that we talked about <Speech_Female> okay. The five <Speech_Female> reasons <Speech_Female> that we're experiencing <Speech_Female> zoom fatigue <Speech_Female> is number <Speech_Female> one. There <Speech_Female> isn't that <Speech_Female> introduction <Speech_Female> to <Speech_Female> communication <Speech_Female> to the conversation <Speech_Female> with touch <Speech_Female> okay so <Speech_Female> there's no handshake <Speech_Female> that's happening. <Speech_Female> There's no hug. <Speech_Female> There is no <Speech_Female> physical greeting <Speech_Female> prior <Speech_Female> to engaging <Speech_Female> in the conversations <Speech_Female> so it makes <Speech_Female> for an <Speech_Female> awkward start <Speech_Female> to <Speech_Female> all of our <Speech_Female> <Silence> online zoom meetings. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> So the second <Speech_Female> one okay. <Speech_Female> Is you have to <Speech_Female> look work <Speech_Female> harder to be interested <Speech_Female> <Speech_Music_Female> Or <Speech_Female> look interested <Speech_Female> on zoom. <Speech_Female> Because <Speech_Female> again <Speech_Female> you don't <Speech_Female> have the ability <Speech_Female> to route to <Speech_Female> rely on all <Speech_Female> of our natural instincts <Speech_Female> of <Speech_Female> reading <Speech_Female> body language <Speech_Female> and that body language <Speech_Female> shows that we're interested <Speech_Female> even if we're slouching <Speech_Female> whatever <Speech_Female> so that's <Speech_Female> another reason <Speech_Female> as well <Speech_Female> okay <Speech_Female> The <Speech_Female> third reason was <Speech_Female> our brains <Speech_Female> are getting overloaded because <Speech_Female> we're looking at too <Speech_Female> many faces at a <Speech_Female> time <SpeakerChange> so we <Speech_Female> know just from <Speech_Female> all the psychology <Speech_Female> psychological <Speech_Female> <SpeakerChange> studies <Speech_Female> that <Speech_Female> We're <Speech_Female> just not meant to <Speech_Female> look at <Speech_Female> more than one face at a time. <Speech_Female> Or ideally <Speech_Female> i should say. Ideally <Speech_Female> were <Speech_Female> not made <Speech_Female> to look at more <Speech_Female> than one face at <Speech_Female> a time. That's what our brain <Speech_Female> wants to do. Want <Speech_Female> to study each phase. <Speech_Female> You know <Speech_Female> just <Speech_Female> human nature <Speech_Female> is be very interested <Speech_Female> in human <Speech_Female> faces when we <Speech_Female> studied them. This is something <Speech_Female> so conscious that we <Speech_Female> do so when we're on <Speech_Female> zoom there's <Speech_Female> just so many faces <Speech_Female> they're they're our brains <Speech_Female> are just like super <Speech_Female> stimulated <Speech_Female> and that <Speech_Female> leads to some <Speech_Female> mental fatigue <Speech_Female> k <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> The fourth <Speech_Female> reason <Speech_Female> is you gotta <Speech_Female> talk <Speech_Female> over people or <Speech_Female> people who just <Speech_Female> keep interrupting <Speech_Female> on zoom <Speech_Female> and that is because <Speech_Female> again we don't have <Speech_Female> that physical <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> body language cue <Speech_Female> to go off <Speech_Female> of on zoom <Speech_Female> of <Speech_Female> when it's your turn <Speech_Female> talk. We're not able <Speech_Female> to read that bilingual. <Speech_Female> So we don't <Speech_Female> know when is our turn <Speech_Female> to talk and so that makes <Speech_Female> for very awkward <Speech_Female> choppy <Speech_Female> conversations <Speech_Female> where we don't know <Speech_Female> when talk <Speech_Female> or People <Speech_Female> who are more assertive <Speech_Female> just kind of <Speech_Female> dominate the conversation <Speech_Female> and everybody <Speech_Female> else just kind of <Speech_Female> left in the lurch <Silence> so that's a fourth <Speech_Female> reason <Speech_Female> and then <Speech_Female> the fifth reason <Speech_Female> is <Speech_Female> people who are <Speech_Female> zoom <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> On savvy like <Speech_Female> they are not <Speech_Female> good at using the platform. <Speech_Female> They don't need themselves. <Speech_Female> And <Speech_Female> i'm sure <Speech_Female> you've experienced that <Speech_Female> and as you know that <Speech_Female> is definitely something <Speech_Female> that also <Speech_Female> adds to <Speech_Female> the stress <Speech_Female> and <Speech_Female> anxiety <Speech_Female> of being <Silence> on zoom. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> All right guy <Speech_Female> so. I really hope that <Speech_Female> my <Speech_Female> Five just kind <Speech_Female> of background. <Speech_Female> Reasons for zoom <Speech_Female> fatigue <Speech_Female> have been helpful to you <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> I really hope that. I've <Speech_Female> given you some things to think <Speech_Female> about and that <Speech_Female> In your <Speech_Female> zoom meetings <Speech_Female> coming up maybe <Speech_Female> you can employ some <Speech_Female> this information <Speech_Female> and your zoom meetings <Speech_Female> will be a little <Speech_Female> bit less <Speech_Female> stressful for you. <Speech_Female> Moving forward <Speech_Female> all <Speech_Female> right guys. Thanks so much <Speech_Female> for listening to how they <Speech_Female> why have a <Speech_Female> great day and we'll see <Speech_Female> in the next <SpeakerChange> episode. <Speech_Music_Male>
