"One such group called the Electronic Disturbance Theater, or E. D. T developed a tool called Flood Kit, which would send a large volume of messages toward the targeted computer across the Internet. A predetermined target is the important part to remember here. Anyone who wanted to make use of flood kit could download it, and the tool even had a drop down menu that would let users select the predetermined targeted computers like the White House computer system. DDT would arrange for virtual sit ins in which they would schedule a coordinated effort to attack a specific target, like the White House servers, and then users would all use that drop down menu to launch their individual attacks as a big collective. So as a collective of individual attacks in that sense them and again in this case, it was a voluntary action. It wasn't like they were infecting computers and trying to, uh Take them over without the user's consent. In 2000 Michael Couse, a teenage hacker who used the handle, Mafiaboy launched a series of distributed denial of service attacks against high profile targets like Yahoo, Amazon, Dell and others. He also attempted to attack the DNS system by targeting several of the root name servers. He had compromised computers at university networks and use them to send traffic to his targets. It would overwhelm the targets. And years later, he would say the whole purpose behind it well so that he could impress and intimidate other hackers. So he was doing it for the online street cred. In other words, he was eventually tracked down by agencies like the FBI and got a pretty light punishment. All things considered. He was sentenced to eight months in a youth group home and part of the reason for the relatively light sentence. Is that the law was dragging behind technology because it's hard to charge someone with a crime when you don't have a law defining that crime yet this is something we've seen in technology over and over where the developments of tech have outstripped the social constructs like law in 2000 and seven in Russia. A massive DDOS attacks shut down, not just Site or made a service slow it actually shut down Internet coverage for entire cities. The attack was aimed at an Internet service provider, and it was so effective that the provider went offline multiple times in waves of attack that hit over the period of a month. So they would get back up and then they would be hit by another attack, and it would go down again at the peak of an attack. Traffic being sent to the provider reached 10 gigabytes per second, which was pretty darn staggering back in 2000 and seven Later Anonymous. The most famous secret society of activists and techno anarchists began to make use of voluntary but nets to attack targets. They urged people who wanted to lend their computers power to an attack to download software called the low orbit Ion cannon. This would make the user's computer join a large but net which then could be directed to attack specific targets. Essentially, this is what hackers often try to do through tricking others to install malware. Only in this case anonymous was outright saying, Hey, your computer is going to be part of this if you download the software, so if you want to help bring down the man Download and install it Now that wraps up this episode in our next one, we're going to talk more about how DDOs works and also the various strategies that people and companies used in order to try and mitigate the effects of D does. As it turns out, it's pretty tricky. If you guys enjoyed this episode, let me know also Give me a shout out. A County decision by the Health Department to ban outdoor dining. A judge heard the arguments along with the California Restaurant Association again today in courts and Well. Gave the county until next Tuesday to come back with proof that outdoor dining is as Sheila kill would say most dangerous. We'll talk to mark about his impressions of the hearing today. We heard from Steve Gregory earlier about the fact that it seemed the judge was telling the county what you brought today. Not good enough. You better next Tuesday with your proof. And he thought that the restaurant association and assume the Gary go side to had provided plenty of evidence that there is no evidence that outdoor dining causes a spreading the virus. We were told everybody wears a mask keeps little distance. You know, you take your mask off. Have your food you drink you go. It's outdoors, their son. There's wind. There's distance again. They're growing every day that on people look at this people there too close to the not wearing masks. Yes, and neither one's infected. They had. No one has an understanding off. How limited the spread is. They just convey all this hysterical, apocalyptic news and makes it sound as if we've all got it and we're all dying. No. There's a tiny, tiny, tiny little minuscule fraction of people who have it right now, and virtually all of them are going to survive. Unless you're really old. Are you really sick to begin with? Why can't people accept that? All right now we haven't talked about governor gruesome today at all. We will talk about him for a few minutes here because he's promising to do better on all the fraud that's been going on through the unemployment program. The Employment Development Department, of course, is responsible for paying out California state unemployment benefits with of course, the extra federal money when that's available, going on top of it. "Katie in the morning five K. easy the all those relationship we're like what what are we there's five different types and how you when you know you should desist this is that I got it either find out what's going on or you got to run can I just tell you when I hear at the almost relationship like the pre E. D. T. R. define the relationship yeah it makes my stomach hurt because I lived there for so long yes yes I mean obviously before I was married but for the last portion of college I think and then for like the last six years the whole time I knew them before you got married almost like that I'm like how long for four years I don't know for sure but like the whole time Katie yeah I wanted it to yeah but she was too weary about asking it to be official but yet because you want to rock the boat as you in the back of your mind thinking it probably is not official right the one time I was so confused because the guy that I was seeing for a long time for many of those years we considered us boyfriend girlfriend and dating I did now as a one time he referred to you know when we were dating but a lot of like what's right so were you looking up for years years very confusing and as you navigate the waters you don't want to rock the boat by saying me because then your own like median emotional then they'll leave you know I was so it's better to just continue what you're doing not ask any questions I usually test the waters and I just say it tomorrow night I'm hanging out with Samantha and if she says who's that I'm like oh some grub and kind of mess around with have also been seeing these like really a wise that bother you that she says yeah a little bit about okay then we can be together if that's what you want yeah okay well then you were looking to do TTR yes but I wanted to make sure by not being the one to say Hey what are way easy I've opposite I don't know right away right yeah I know right away I'll just be like so what is this really yeah but I say like that so what is this what our way but I'll say Hey are we seeing other people or or be say I don't wanna be explosive I wonder if you're in the mood if you will because you agree with that may I agree with you on that one are you guys think that you're in the minority are the majority I don't know I think a man we might be a slight majority slight I think with women women don't do that I think they'll be tagged along for years yeah hoping that one day all son you know you're not officially dating marriage proposal move pretty fast when I'm Dave instantly when I start dating some I think could you be the one I wanna marry forever that's what I start yeah because I'm like her she looks good enough hopefully our paths are not there right so if my wife when we met I mean she was banging out the manager of the night yeah I will you marry me on that beer tub and I'm like wow yeah back then she was pretty hot your your back then to say she was she was back then she was yeah so I not say that I don't under I like it when you say stuff like that I like like it will because I like him try to take this his foot out of his mouth I think he wasn't hot back then I love it I'm not saying she's not now but I think back then was used on the beer top half naked I was like she's pretty hot I didn't know what the time she was of course I should have now realized that she was banging out the main girlfriend my wife Carol claim she didn't know that but how does it how did you not when it was two o'clock in the morning and he was bringing you out in the office there's more are they I don't know stop for years was the difference now if you choose to do that she doesn't well she probably would didn't now you know she probably was in the whole thing up well I don't know for dating or not like you work but is way more common than anybody would like to admit and use writing well he's the man in a back then you're always manage your money I club yeah and then I think a lot of girls thing back then if they do sleep with guys this kind of sick almost solidifies the relationship a little bit yeah because we become attached but not all the time but most of the time because the motions at B. it's I'm an emotional thing yeah so these almost relationships are real for sure and I think women more than ever anyone else find themselves in these things for years and I'm like well maybe one day one is if you find yourself feeling that you're not good enough for them hello another almost relationship is when you think they can almost love you is he going with a horrible expectations jury knew it and you can leave pleasantly surprised if it goes the other way not so bad I kind of look at everything is worse they could possibly be a star yeah we now that way if anything good happens on the show Mike better than I thought thinking I'd like to be I know it's a shocker but it is chasing will take us a long on a jury like this is the war are really that bad it's not that bad or Jason do this do you want I have good news and bad news yeah I wanna person or like the bad news you'll tells bad news I was a good news there's no good yeah well I just want a less bad news last time there was that that was the way that I tried a lot of times I try to come up with something in my back pocket that's good that you lot of times okay well that's good this one was wasn't as good as this one was was off a little bit it was horrible it was on varying degrees of bad news yeah there's no good now it was told us you never I told you tell me yes and you want yeah I different all weekend I'm in now yeah and I want to touch it because I always go play joker like is the worst ever and given me the good news we'll be in there later any more details you have no reaction to it it's good all in the last almost relationship that he's got a got a cut your losses when you're you're the almost girlfriend that almost boyfriend again you're the plus one I invited the stuff they think of you with everyone else the mobile pen falls through you might be number eight on the less than like gosh I got a call amber and you think they have I don't like me to cut your losses when someone's into you they are as yours no games yeah there that that is true I mean I there's been many of times where I who is dating somebody then we stop talking and I will call at two o'clock in the morning and really think I like them and then after hanging out with them a couple days when it's when it's you know what it is it's like you have the butterflies in the stomach ash I miss those days when your V. I don't know what we are I'm not sure we're hooking up you know that type of thing nobody can make you feel worse about your situation than someone who's in a relationship because I like you should not be treated that way yeah meanwhile they just for being treated that way right now and then all of a sudden you get into the relationship and you're secure and you feel good about it and the like I would never do that makes me right for doing that not so long ago yeah do you have a short short memories kind of people lose weight no like you they've in fact the whole I usually don't like okay I'm happy for you not really okay shop aha you just also a first time you're thirty five shut up exactly and who has never done that to you Gerry I'm like Hey do you want to go eat some chicken right I'm like yes with a bucket of rain up perfect in the morning if we down to and yeah and you say you hate me and we go to bed angry knoll is dating will be right I'll be here waiting problem is some changes just need someone to show you one more there can be a difficult person Thomas the wall when working actually thank you every time I I don't like to be on the definition of down to and you you say you hate me and we go to bed angry the right leave their way promise some changes I just need we are fine thank you the same with the leader you know me well looking at like always the price search for some I know you've been making it difficult for me to open up a can down in you you say you hate me and we go to bed angry no day would be right I'll be away problem is some changes just need in the morning seven five KCL Marlboro girl excited about her.

"Report the tech guy eighty eight eighty eight S. cleo nine two David in law saying the lists hello David I think you get my call thanks for the call and we can do for you currently I live in apartment I got a eight eight E. D. T. A. P. now I'm gonna be moving to a three story house you're anticipating wifi trauma absolutely Sir so I've been looking at I love the I think there I think their top the line and I never had a problem yeah so I've been looking at the at the national policy that they have there's not a lot of reviews out there so I was wondering if you could give me feedback no I've never and I've used most of the why fine mesh systems out there I've tried a lot of them but and I do I agree with you on a Seuss's standalone wifi access points there's there's none better they're very good but I've never tried there a I mash which is their new thing they've had mash even in the standalone routers for some time that that this kind of ideas been around for awhile they also these liras which our wild looking and I've heard people talking about them but I've never used them either so I can't give you a straight answer on this there's a couple of things to look for with mass your right as you go to a three story house not only at square footage but add kind of you know more walls between you and your wife I wife I can get very troubling further more people moving the houses they tend to get more I. O. T. devices so you start adding Amazon echoes in speakers in doorbells and refrigerators and and you know you I have sixty or seventy devices on my wifi network and that's another thing that kills wifi it's not merely a distance or bandwidth issue is it's a complexity issue and all of these new mash routers to a couple of things they solve the distance and wall problem by having multiples subunits so you have a main station and this is different than wifi extenders what people familiar with the idea of a we got a main unit then you put an extender the problem with extenders as as it used to be is that they would cut the band within half because they spend half the time talking to your computer have time talking back to the base station and so your band with would go way down with an extender and not just on that one computer but everything that's not good mash solve that by having a separate back channel so they can talk back to the base station without slowing down and so mesh writers give you better band with better throughput and of course because you're spreading the wifi access points around to the house they're less prone to problems caused by walls and and distance so that's one thing meshed as but there's another thing entirely and eyes I think this is one that reviewers have a hard time gauging and that's the software the the mesh routers running one of the first of these zero said very early on and what we do is we watch how you use your wifi and we prioritize to put it more technical terms they have automated quality of service engine that will say well you know the the kids in his bedroom watching you two and mom and dad or watch Netflix in the living room and then aunt Sally is getting email we can spend more band with the Netflix and YouTube and let stand Sally because she doesn't need consistent packet by packet through book she's not watching video they can do things like that this printer doesn't need full time access the echo doesn't need full time.
