"Two hundred twenty pounds. He's alone. But has some pretty good hands for a big, man. He's only nineteen years of age right now. Now, he is going to be a good one play a lot of wing this year. But he's a natural Centerman. Taking their time with the the big hit. Blackhawks giving up some quality opportunities here to the Red Wings on their Dana's. Open a play in the second period with a fresh sheet of ice and twenty seven seconds of power playtime with which to work only seven shots and three goals for the hawks. So Cam ward has done I think a respectable job and go for the hawks so far. Yeah. Blackhawks getting away with the sloppy play in the road in early on. "You know, during the nineteen sixty seven sixty eight season an integral part over the next eleven years of the wing wheelers playing some solid left wing. He joins us now. Number fourteen. Nick, how are you my friend? I'm doing fine saves. I spend a while. Thank you for having me on the show. Always a pleasure talking hockey with unique. You know, that I wish we could talk about something a bit more upbeat the Red Wings as you. Well know, sir. They've been struggling of late losing five of their last seven. They'll play host to a pretty hot Chicago Blackhawks team tonight. What's your impressions of this Red Wings team right now, they're neck? Steve thinking about it. You know, ten reminds me not not a little bit of our situation back in the seventies. I mean, we had some some good teams. But just never had the player or the players to to get you over the top. And what I mean by that. I you got guys like dealing Larkin Gus Nyquist, and and Anthony say you who are very very very good hockey players. But as as you know, the teams that won the Cup here in the in the in the nineties had Steve ers Herman Nichols Lindstrom and guys like that. Pittsburgh has fifty Crosby in row has Austin Matthews, John Travolta. So I think Detroit is as good as they are. Because it's a very tight league. Now, they need that one guy or possibly to that can get elevated to that status. Not to mention the Red Wings, pretty young hockey club their neck, and when you are that young. You're searching for confidence. And if you don't have it going to the ring can be kind of a chore, but you know, hopefully, I know Kenny Allen has a plan. And with that being said the NHL trade deadline coming up Monday at three o'clock. It is a difficult time for the entire NHL because there's rumors all over the place. Am I gonna be here? Am I not talk about that? And how difficult that is Nick. Well, it's probably very difficult for Kenny. You know in the situation, Detroit, you read in the papers that Jimmy Howard's name being mentioned being he is an absolute outstanding goaltender to wasn't ten years younger that being said, you know, if you can trade a guy like like like Jimmy and get a very high draft choice, and it's kind of the luck of the draw in the NHL draft. That would be good. But that being said the team may have now they have some very good hockey players as you said, very young hockey players, and it doesn't take much to to get to that next level and Gustav Nyquist also being bandied about as potential trade bait and a couple of other the winged wheelers. The problem here is hockey town, Nick we had been spoiled for so long because of the issues going on with this hockey club right now, it's looking more and more like they'll be on the outside looking in as far as the postseason for a third straight year. And quite frankly, we're just not used to it. That is true. It's a very tough situation. And and again the league is so tight, and it doesn't take much in the wings play hard every night. But three years in a row in this town with a friend who rank him, and you know, the fans expecting more, it's just very very difficult. And and if you had a contending team, I mean, no seats that we see the empty at the games. People. Don't of the the saloons having a Popper too. That being said, you know, entertaining hockey, people want to watch I mean, so if they can bring it up a notch or two which I think they will. It'll be very entertaining way. You talk about team catching fire that would be the Blackhawks team tonight there Nick eight and two over their last ten and because it is run just one point out of a wildcard spot there in the Western Conference. That is true, Stephen. And everybody's beating up in Chicago early in the year. What's your key guys not doing well? And then all of a sudden they get hot. And and unfortunately in Detroit situation there. I think there's right now they're a little too far out of the race. And were. Were trying to catch one team only in that one team. But unfortunately, there are too many teams between where they are in that last isn't that final playoff spot. So is it would be very difficult if not impossible for the wings. But Chicago the other hand I mean, you get a hot streak like this and their division and now between now and the end of the year. It's it's playoff hockey for them because they have to win and they're playing tight every game. Whereas Detroit it's that mental thing they're they're just they're playing because that's what they're paid to do any lab game. But it's it's just a difficult situation. Here, you know, Nick, I have a lot of respect for red wing head coach Jeff Blasio. I love his passion. I believe he has the ability to get the most out of the roster that he has. And I think when he took this job. He kind of knew that there was gonna be if you wanna call it rebuilding ahead. And that's what we'll call it. But I know that there are those who are saying, you know, his time has come and gone. But I don't know. Maybe if you had Scotty Bowman on the bench of the team that we have right now. Nick, the results wouldn't be much different. You agree with that? Yeah. I think so Steve. And like I said earlier, I think that that Detroit and they have some very good hockey player. In fact, everybody on the team everybody on every team right now with the way the league is our talented or skilled, but Detroit they just don't have that that Steve Eisman taika player or Sidney Crosby. I think it comes back to that. You you get a young guy like Dylan Larkin visit example, obviously, he's very good hockey player. Upper echelon of of the league. I'm not sure if Dylan if he had a support one supporter a guy like Stevie elevates Dylan's game to who knows what level. All right. Mr. limited, always a pleasure talking hockey with my friend, and certainly. I hope all is well with you and yours fine. Thank you very much. But they they dismissed a gentle manager, but their wings. No. I I like the way they're playing at in in their rebuilt talk about back in your playing days. Greg exactly how important is all stay. I'll all star break is for this group. You know, they have been struggling as a matter of fact, we can bring into conversation twenty-fifth and league in power play percentage over three last night. I imagine a break is very valuable this time. Yeah. It is. You know, obviously, the Red Wings you're used to winning obsolescence couple years. Like you said, they're they're they're starting a rebuild. And and they got a lot of young guys. And they got a lot of veterans that have come back. So I think with the young guys I it becomes a learning experience. Mentally because it's such a grind the season. Such a grind, it's a tough. So for the young guys. It's great. And then, you know, the con- walls, and the older guys are are gonna benefit from it and a and then come back refreshed and hopefully have a a real good second house. We have come in the part of the year teams jockeying already Greg for postseason position. There's been some speculation that Jimmy Howard, the fine veteran netminder for the wing wheelers could be moved in a trade. You get a sense either way if that's going to happen. Well, you know, it would have to be a deal. Giving Howard the backbone of the Red Wings at this time. You good goaltender. I know. He's had some injury problems. But the deal that they would have to get to make real sensory Detroit Redwings because I'm not sure if your net, obviously, there's no guarantee I think Jimmy Johnson restricted free agent, obviously. So I think I think it would be important to get him signed to be honest with you. But if the deal is out there, and it makes sense for the Red Wings. You never know you could possibly signed Jimmy Howard in the offseason. So I think there is. I think there's some teams that are believed that they have a team. But but they're missing the goaltending aspect of Jimmy. How would be a great fit going back to last night's Tilton admits in notes growing in the first period there. Greg then Dylan Larkin the real leader of this young redwing team gets them on the board. Nice to see Luke glendenning contributing a couple. A positive step for him moving forward here. Yeah. Well Dylan you don't let it he's their star player movement forward. He's he's blossomed this year. That's that's a real positive for Detroit Redwings, it looks like he has desire to be the right type of leader Lucon Denning. You know is his is one of those guys that are part of a hockey team third line now fours lying guy that kills penalties. And and very important. So that was a great time for the team last night for sure Greg always a pleasure, my friend. Thank you very much for the conversation. Just the fifth win, by the way for the wing Wheeler in their last twenty Greg. We'll chat again soon, Sir, Paul. Well, thanks a lot have a good day. Stay dry. Thanks, greg. Stephan. "His twentieth goal this season. So not bad for I I would guess next year's captain to be Dylan Larkin as the wings have day off now and like Detroit. The pistons got off to a great lead last night as well at Little Caesars playing Miami. They were had thirteen points at the end of one. They were up by fourteen at halftime. They were leading fifty three the thirty nine. Now, get this like the Red Wings this a similar thread. That's weaving its way through the pistons got outscored by Miami in the third period thirty to twelve and they took the lead lawn hill. They did come back and win the game. A final score in the last seconds ninety eight for Detroit ninety three for Miami. And head coach Dwane Casey idea. How did you respond to that worth? It was the worst third period. You all had and the worst third quarter being outscored by thirty two twelve margin energy machine on. I mean, we just we knew they were gonna make run. It's one of our habits. That we got a break as soon as they make run we drop our hairdresser shoulders are energy level goes down. And you know winning teams championship teams. We don't do that you can. And there was a stretch was over with. We gotta gotta engines by going again, and it was about toughness, energy and hard play. That's and we took our foot off the pedal in that stretch. And but to our credit they balanced back. All right. Well, they got another game going at Little Caesars tonight, seven o'clock on Fox Sports Detroit against Sacramento. Couple of injuries in the first half yesterday too. As a matter of fact, they lost German, and they lost the Ishmael. So we'll see what happens tonight in college basketball this afternoon at noon. You got Michigan undefeated so far they've got what seventeen straight victories their seventeen the probably if they win tonight w number one next week, but they moved into Wisconsin badgers of lost two straight. But as you well know as head coach, John it's very tough to play in their arena. We're gonna find out real quick. How United we can be in stay together because leads can evaporate very quickly and Madison or you can get out of it very quickly at mass. And then getting back into it is really hard. So we're gonna find out now what we have fourteen gauge get slowly six home eight away. So we're gonna find out. We'd better be good on the road. Right or you can't compete for championship. No doubt about that one. And there's a backyard brawl kind of going on a to the afternoon over there at Detroit mercy Oakland comes in and plays and they play this is growing in popularity too. They should have five six thousand. I would think forget about the weather fans, you could get out there and see Oakland at Detroit mercy at to this after noon, and that should bring you up to speed on sports, except we got a former Detroit tiger who helped lead the team to the nineteen Eighty-four World Series in town. Now living in Florida brings his dogs with them. You haven't seen anything like this? This is another spot. Got to stop this weekend as well. We get you that story after how about the story and the traffic in and around our town..

"Yahoo dot com, and let's take an Email from Jake and Warren. Ted were you shocked that Jimmy Howard got the final all-star spot over Dylan Larkin. No. Because the way they do it really like twelve spots. Rostered? There's so many good forwards in that. They're just they weren't going to put it. I mean, they've got Mitch monitor sitting out this thing and. Who else was there? Some other kid from Carolina. I think missing out we needed a goalie then either Representative Jimmy defined year two that's a decent. It's more than a decent Representative for the wings. But you got so many good players today. This out nobody wants to go to that thing. Anyways. I mean, let's Dylan Larkin insurance more than thrilled to be able to go someplace warm for nine days. Now, let me ask you this. You think that Howard? Now, I was told by somebody that Saint Louis was after Howard. And then I talked to my buddy, the general manager, of course. And the son of Neil Armstrong, the general manager of of of of Saint Louis. Doug Armstrong, and I talked to him. And I said you really around what kind of question is he smiled said. And as we started back, and I went back to my team. He was sitting next to me with Hollywood back. I said are you or aren't you? Your guy here. He's laughed and pointed Holland, I said Kennan you talking about Jimmy Howard, Ron we're talking golf here. We just double up laughing. We just double a plastic. I mean, I I've got to see who's hurt and Washington's goalie did get hurt last night. Evidently was nearly serious. Everybody thought it might be. So you got to see who was heard at the deadline and somebody somebody needs to goalie gonna come calling and who's the closest guy to come up Jimmy Howard? And I mean a contending team needs a good salad. First string goalie Jimmy Howard. Definitely what about the backup? He's done. Good on occasion. He's little inconsistent. But he's come up with this viewer wins. I know he's getting less breaks. Yes. I mean, you know, bottom line would be nice to steal a few victories who would be back up. If you traded him who's closest. Yeah. That's what I'm thinking too. There's neither neither the greatest guys in grand. Rapids is. Setting the world of fire. So that would be the issue, but in the bathroom in a roundabout way. That's not the worst thing either. You lose more games and you get better odds for a better draft pick. So that wouldn't be bad either. Let me tell you this. The saints just took the lead over the eagles seventeen to fourteen just got a touchdown. How much time left one forty left in the third quarter. So it's still anybody's plenty of time. Let's give you the quarterback ratings, Nick foles. Nick foles thirteen one thousand nine hundred and fifty nine yards one touchdown and wondering reception he had eighty some yards to drew Brees zero in the first quarter. And now breezes bounceback he's twenty one for twenty nine for two hundred and fifty one yards. Two touchdowns and interception. Now falls has not been sacked and breezes men sacked two times. And they were there was something like one hundred sixty yards to nothing to nothing in favor of Philadelphia for well now to thirty three in the air. So over three hundred yards for New Orleans and two hundred five yards from Philadelphia New Orleans is taking charge of this game round. I'm kind of surprised I didn't think you were as as big a football guys. Some of the other sports, I talked with you as always what baseball I than basketball or hockey or and then football is that about right that was right many years ago. But I really really liked the NFL now. So really what changed? I don't know. It's changed. Maybe it's because it's only once a week. And and I've really I mean, forty years could pay less about football to be honest with you. I watched it followed. But nowadays, all the TV. I liked the network people how they do the games. I wish you wouldn't say football every other word order now. How'd you eight the four of still like baseball, but football, I don't want to take the other three are just trying. I think I like hockey, second basketball and football. I tell you what as far as basketball is talking about this. So other day, it's not the same. It's really starting to lose me with all the teen shooting the three pointers. I mean, all it is now it's basically a three point shooting contest. There's only one team that shoots the mid range jumper and that San Antonio. And that's why they went to the most part started with Dunkin' continue these guys they're leaning league. And and they're leading link percentage of three points. Why? Because he don't they shoot the few in the league, and they have the highest percentage. That's a great coach and Popovich and he's other teens you live by the sword. You die by. By the sword. That's the pistons have done, and it's hurt him to know I pick. Both the pisses waiting to make the the pistons because of the weakness will probably get in. But the wings. I don't think we'll get into now. But Glenn I'd like to develop the Redwings. I liked the Redwings development. They've got a future the pistons in my mind, don't because they're stuck with this guy. Blake Griffin for another three years and Jackson. Nobody wants to take that contract either. So you got some issues air. Got a trade. Jackie said, they're not gonna treat Jackson. Well, what are they gonna do this? And then the Jackson efforts the owner, Tom Gores. Oh, I like the direction this team is going into. He said the other night. I beg your pardon. I beg your I beg your pardon. You liked that direction? Well, you can like that direction all you want. And you shouldn't have bought the team. Well, tiger so far away to say so far away. But like their future ahead of away headed the pistons. Yeah. Yeah. I think you're right. But I mean, you just hope that some of those pictures can develop pensions. The players that are really coming shortstop is of key position in the minor leagues. They've got. So Dominican shortstop. I wanna see close to late to three years away. They could do. Well, and you've got a couple in the outfield. But no, they need a little more than the position play the outfield. They get what they can't forecast. They've got to do that. Against be stuck in right field with him next year. Thinking about the other day. What's was talking about somebody give you gone out to that independently? Out in McComb county, and I will not go. Now, why is that because they promised me a franchise not. I had a franchise in the Michigan Ohio leagues. It was going to die was going to take the franchise. And and I had to get a ball ballparks got if Seleny did go daddy was going to be my management and Bill mad like mad dog was going to be the manager one of the teams, and they came back. They didn't do it until the next year. And when I went back eastern I worked at the allowed to lease these children. I went back and right? I don't blame them for it at all they already they said, we we we can put you on the weekend. We'd love you during the week here rat, but we can't do the weekends. Call the tournaments and all that stuff, and I couldn't take that's why did doing and then I ran into Mark Hackel. Mark hackel. That that's the problem there too. And because he said he'd called me guy. Did they do a really nice job? Time time Ted you won't do it again next month. E-eh either that or March down the road a lot in February. But let's definitely try to hook up here in the next. Okay. Don't forget to go to ram sort over twenty four hours seven days in Southfield hotel. Both newly remodeled in in downtown thin. And we'll talk to you next time on sports dot Ning seventy. Thanks, matt..

"Redwings game. I haven't been to either one of them since they moved in. And he said he was making the argument to miss an I that the pistons grab Blake Griffin just so that the fans would come because he's a player that you would go watch regardless of how the team is doing and you bring up Dylan Larkin is there anybody on either one of those teams that you would go down to a game to watch just because they're playing in it. I'm not there yet as a family I liked to enlarge and I've seen his games. He looks really good on TV, but I'm not paying sixty dollars for a ticket to go. Watch Blake Griffin play or go watch Dylan Larkin until the surrounding cast is better you can get pistons tickets for much much. Okay. So our. Michael ten bucks. Doesn't banana cost from references. This is a good show. You got going here. But it's not six hundred it'd be like ten bucks pistons saints are lot like Tigers tickets, and that's true for most of the NBA other than you know, if you're at Golden State, but I think that policy in terms of putting a star on the floor works better for basketball because their faces are shown because there on the court ninety percent of the time hockey's a tougher thing. Larkins a lot of fun to watch. Absolutely. I also do think paying to go to these games. All-sports fans are entitled to their own thing. But for me, like suppose, I quit the journalism deal and paying for the game. Or watching on TV. The only reason I would pay to go to a game is because the atmosphere would be so much better than, you know, watching it with a couple of friends on TV at home, which is a great segue to my stock up Panchal if you wanna take absolutely I was gonna give stock up to the fans at Chrysler yesterday. I you know, I was at my daughter's birthday party yesterday learning how to floss in Detroit dances in fantastic. I'm pretty good at it. I'll show you on the break. But you know, what it is Michael or floppiness? Yeah. Yeah. You figured it out. My sister-in-law does when never mind. All right. But at least is transmitted through the TV it really sounded like a rock and Chrysler. And I think getting that burst at home to start out with to just kind of try to put a top twenty five team in their place in the first ten minutes is really useful. And it was nice to see from the Michigan fans at least from the comfort of my office at home and watching it on television. It really transmitted. Well, I thought like what eleven straight shutout or sellouts shut us basketball. You're doing something that would be a start. No, I think it's eleven straight sellouts now at Chrysler, which you know, Michael, I have talked about this. It is not a not known Chrysler, even even when they have good teams not necessarily known for filling that place. But I think I think it's I think this this this is a team people wanna see life. You know? That's that's the you know, it'd be one thing if they had a player scoring twenty five points a game. It's another thing when it's the team when there's this buzz kind of this almost, you know, whether it's at the beginning of the game or or maybe they struggle going into the half. And then it's the second half. It's like it seems like every time they have that that pull away moment. And I think the fans really want to be a part of that. So I I really enjoyed it. And it really did come through. I was watching. My stock down are the NFL I hesitate to use the term fans these aren't human beings that told bears kicker Cody parkey after the mis yesterday to kill himself and to do a lot worse things to them too. I mean. You can jump on Twitter. There's enough people will post in about it that have screen grabs of some of these people that are are saying these things I mean, look folks, we make a living off of this. I get it. It's to so many people. It's there's great passion. We love your passion. We love cheering for our teams. What how do you as a human being? Go tell somebody that they should be dead. They should go kill themselves because they missed a field goal in a playoff game. Like, what type like who are you as a person in the wildcard? I mean, I don't wanna make light of where you're at. But it's it's not even a yes. Down is on anybody that takes it. So seriously that you willing to go on. I don't care how drunk you are I would hope to God that these people are drunk because but even then I don't care how drunk you are. There is no rationale ever for some of the vitriol that gets spewed at athletes at anybody. If you don't like what the hell, they performed or be their opinion. There's just no place for it. So that's my stock down every single person. I hope every single person. Honestly that there a I think Emily Waldorf is that her name Walden Walden? Yeah. She was the one that I saw that. She re tweeted, it, I hope every single person that that is that is on that screen. Grab is embarrassed and gets rid of Twitter because they have no right to to to use it. That's my stock down Zack. Outdoor hockey games. Okay. I think I think that ship has sailed twenty three thousand you know, they it seems like every outdoor hockey game. They have some I don't follow the NHL ones. Maybe those are different. But it seems like every college outdoor hockey game. It's like there's some drama like they have to move the game. The weather's never what they want it to be. You know, I think the fans have stopped showing up you, and I were there when they had it at Soldier Field. You know, the Coyote, logistics hockey city classic that was delayed like three hours that was the worst. This game. And like, you could tell red was biting his tongue. Not to throw the entire thing under the bus. So it's just. I I like the idea I think they've got to do it at night enough with this daytime stuff, and then also you know, again top team team coming off a championship game appearance to fight to frozen fours. Number five team in the country. And that's how many fans they get you know for a for a game against Michigan. Know before maybe during a while a lot of kids and students are on on vaca-. I think the ship has sailed. And I think I think, you know, honestly, it's just not that fun to watch on TV either. You know, I was I was doing that on Saturday. And it's just like this is just not not the same sport. And all it's just a little different than what the hundred and sixty foot goal or whatever. It's like, very clearly Cade Morris. Just didn't see it in the right way. He's an all American goalies given that up. So it's just for me. I think I think the ship has sailed. So if I had stock on it, I would be selling it. Now. I'm right there with you, MS I would say my stack down is. I'm gonna go with with uconn women's basketball. Okay. They. It's taken over one hundred games before they've lost their their first like regular season game on the road. And they lost it over the weekend. I believe it was down at Baylor. So your stock down because they lost their first game in one hundred. Yeah, I mean down here. I mean, come on. They're moving dour to me. I'm slowly it's been over one hundred games. I mean, I thought what what's his name the head coach was this all knowing guy about being the the guru of of women's basketball and Baylor. Can still go down. You can't control the board. What do you got there old, man? Richard old man, Richard. All right. Yeah. No, my my Rashard. Okay. I I said I'd take all variations of Richard. So I'm ready to go. I think that'll be fun. The next couple of weeks. Okay. Yeah. All right. My my stock down as the NFL rule book or more specifically the interpretations thereof. I did a video on this actually earlier this morning can catch at Hoge law on Twitter. That's right. You could catch on Twitter or my YouTube channel or or otherwise on my website, but start won't waste your time. On the whole thing. It's twenty five minutes long. But if you saw the bears Philadelphia game at the end of the first half. There was a drone pass that was ruled an incompletion. That was actually rightly everybody agrees a completion and a fumble. And the way they interpreted the rules that they've gotten the book there. They said that they couldn't do anything about it, even though everybody agreed that it was a thirty yard completion. They walked everybody back thirty yards, and they had to continue their playoff from the forty or forty five and to me as a lawyer, and is a guy that likes to look at contract terms and look at rules and look at laws, and how they influence how things occur whether it's on the field or otherwise, I find that tremendously fascinating. And I think everybody can agree that the way that the rules were interpreted yesterday don't match with anybody's understanding of what actually physically a. Kurd on the field of play. So it's always an important thing to try to match up. What the words on the page actually say to what you see. And what you're lying is tell you. So I found that to be interesting. I certainly found that to be a stock down because you know, the bears wind up losing by one and they would have had four plays from inside the ten at the end of the first half. All right. Yeah. That's a good one. Anybody have any follow up stock up or down anything else? You wanna get out there? Oh, mad at MS for stock downing you honestly, come on man stock down bears fans of you mentioned already or not goes mentioned. Okay. Has very polite. It just criticizes officials and referees. Which I think is always love also my stock up. How about a home-court advantage in the big ten sixteen and five at home this year when you throw Penn State and Rutgers out of the mix. How does that compare to? That compared to recent years. I don't know. I really liked that about college basketball. It's like especially in the big ten. It's just you know, I'm going to I think I'll be going to Illinois and Thursday. And it's like Michigan's going to still be have to like control thing. You know? It's still going to be like kind of a storm that they have to have to weather hard. Yeah. And all it's it's like every big time. I think I had the stat after the northwestern game be lines. Got these incredible winning percentages in everything except big ten road games than I can pull it up during the break. If we wanted to clarify the at the next segment, but it's like he's like forty two and fifty eight in big ten road games. And you know, his record in the rest. He's like, you know, two hundred fifty some in like one hundred and thirty so let's just. It's tough. It's tough. So I don't know if it's changing, but. It's it's every single one of them except for Rutgers is a battle. All right. Great stuff. Appreciate Rick Hogue. Joining us you can learn much more about his business. How to work with them at Hoge law dot.

"The Red Wings were unable to score the four on three power play. Then they came back as time was running down. We were not that far away from a shootout when Dylan Larkin scored the game winner that penalty kill the four on three and overtime brought tears in my eyes that was beautiful. And then, you know, you think you're gonna make it through to the shootout and don't Larkin. Nice little move out of the corner wins the battle on the boards. And then a nice little backhand to the opposite side going across the green nice little finish. And then there you go. There you have it. Dylan Larkin played so much in that overtime periods. And now four overtime goals this year for him. Yeah. He's he's got that escaped ability rate there. He comes off the boards. He's got explosive speed. Hey, this is the NHL. NHL speed kills that does and the Red Wings when this went four three in overtime. So the predators record for the season.
