"Typically more of a fly ball pitcher. By giving almost ground balls he was able to get out quickly and you know the fact that he I don't think anybody would have expected that he pitched six innings of shutout ball but boy really came at a good time for the cardinals. Yeah. Another key last night Dylan Carlson and making adjustments on the off speed pitches which has been talked about time and again, and last night I thought it was the best most comfortable. We've seen him since he's been up with the cardinals. In that that double was was. So important I mean singer had walked to is the count was too and and you know I found myself saying that wondering okay is doing just going to be passive and take these pitches and hope you get a walk and keep the ending going. But you know he he put a good swing on the on the pitch on a to and and that double was just so important to to. Set. The momentum for the game the cardinals to leak it out ahead and be able to breathe a little bit because it seems like all these games you know going back to the Pittsburgh series you know they're just one run one run to either way naked never really you get into a groove like they got into I've been saying since day one I think ultimately I as I watch him, I project him as A. Rightfielder, but then I've watched him more and more I could see him in center I can see him in left I. Don't know if there is a dominant defensive position for him because anywhere I watch him even though he's had his struggles at the plate, you know what Brian He's done. He's done a really good job. Defensively that has not been curtailed. His defense has been outstanding and that that shows maturity right I. Mean We. Have seen a lot of guys over the years day and I'm sure that are having trouble at the plate and it carries.

"If you're cardinals fan, your team is about to play baseball and so much. Yeah I know, and we'll make up for it never not playing baseball for their mentors ceased. Its. Look I guess we're doing this and it is probably best from a well I don't even know if I believe what I'm about to say Ben I'm going to say it and then we assess if I actually believe it I guess it is best from a competitive sort of integrity perspective for them to endeavour to play as many games as they can, but they have to play so many games in such a short period of time here's the rundown they play twenty one games in August four double headers. It is it is August fourteenth they twenty August and it is it is August fourteenth as we sit here and record this from from the planet earth. They played a July twenty ninth. What five games in? Jack Flaherty hasn't started since opening day. And then they will play thirty two games in September including seven doubleheaders. JFK. Did the math when he did an update to his update on the cardinals fan grass, they will average ten point eight innings per day assuming of course that think. To Extras. They should be able to skip extras or start with the bases loaded and extras. Probably an approach the runner on second in every inning curtains. Exactly. So it is it is. It is a wild amount of baseball to have to play. I. Will Note that at the end of MLB press release sort of outlining this resumption of play plan they did say that the postponed doubleheader between the cardinals and the Detroit Tigers which was originally scheduled for yesterday as we're recording this on Friday will be rescheduled at a later date, which would suggest that they are prioritizing their play within the NL Central and. That that game against the Tigers who are surprisingly competitive but are not an NFL team might end up getting just booted entirely If the I guess if MLB determines that they have played a sufficient amount of the scheduled to not monkey with any of the postseason stuff, but it's a wild amount of baseball. I will be very curious to see if this results in any players on the cardinals deciding to exercise their opt-outs. Yeah. I'll just be very curious to see what their reaction to this is but let's just so it's so many doubleheaders. That's that's eleven and that it might be twelve if this. The doubleheader with the Tigers gets rescheduled in could be more if there are any other changes that have to be made to the schedule this makes every other team particularly in the central division not having an outbreak just even more important than it or I didn't really think they were going to try this when rob Manfred Simpson something about a week ago or within the past week about how he wanted to get them to a credible number of games did not specify what credible would be. So I figured they would just get somewhere in the neighborhood and as they have planned it thus far they are actually intending to get to sixty or have they left themselves some leeway there I think that there's some leeway right? Because they don't yet have this there at least down to fifty eight because they have this double header that hasn't yet been rescheduled. So I don't know if they will make it all the way to sixty, but it seems unlikely. They'll get to a point. You know this happens in a normal year, their games they get postponed for weather or what have you, and then toward the end of the season if they are not necessary from a playoff perspective, it's unusual for them to just get banged entirely which is why you don't end up with a every team in baseball playing a full complement of games every single year. So I wonder if they will even though they. Have Not announced anything to that effect yet and I don't know anything inside are- about it but I do wonder if as we approach the end of September if they will look at the schedule and if you know the cardinals are way out ahead or way behind or other teams that they're slated to play or way way behind and not really in the playoff picture if they will just proactively Bang Games but I, it seems unlikely that they. Will do that because the playoff fuel is sixteen teams. So you know a lot of teams are theoretically GonNa be in it for awhile. So yeah I I just the cardinals are now I think at the top of the ranking that I have just done in my head of of teams that wished that the old playoff format, we're still in effect because they would at least get something of a break on the back end of the schedule if. They make the postseason provided. They're not one of the wild cards. But now if they succeed in the strange, very strange year, they're about to to stage they'll just have played so much baseball in such a short amount of time. Even if we end up with expanded roster rules, which seems like it must be likely right that they will change some of the roster rules to allow people to move up and down from the alternate site without. Yes. Waivers, I know Jay Cooper Baseball, America proposed something along those lines that you want to have some amount of flexibility so that you can call up fresh I mean arms more than anything else. But the way that the the roster rules are laid out in the OPS manual with a couple of exceptions, some guys have to be exposed to to waivers before they can be moved around. So that would be bad. Yeah they call up their top prospect Dylan Carlson and several other guys just for reinforcements just rewarm bodies here, and that was something that I came up when it wasn't clear when they would be able to resume play people wondered whether will could you just kind of promote a whole alternate cardinals from the alternate sites just like the second stringers and just have them kind of 'cause play as the cardinals for the rest of the season and I'm glad that they're not trying to do that because that would feel, I, don't know the whole thing with. Manfred. Saying that he wanted to get tick credibility whatever that is. I feel like the bar. For being credible is pretty low the season just because of everything that has happened that weird schedule and the platform it change and the different rules and all of it just makes me feel like all right. Well, if you only ended up fit fifty, two games or something is that really going to put my nose out of joint I don't think. So because look how were deciding everything the season. So if you have to end up with winning percentage determining things that's fine. I thank or at least it won't bother me more or significantly more than just the general structure of the season and The pandemic imposed limitations? I mean, we're all just trying to make do with this situation here. So I don't know that they need to get to sixty really and it's nice..

"That. The cardinal have Austin Dean hit a home run against the twins and that gave the cars will leave. Twenty two twenty four and thirteen games. Twenty four twenty four hundred twenty. Yeah Yeah so so. Therefore off of last spring's total and they still have thirteen games to go. Are you concerned or the cardinals concerned? About the the spring this far for Dexter Fowler and how that particular to the others that are trying to to fight their way onto this roster. Yeah I'm sure they WANNA see production. I'm you know. They kind of got his approach and everything like that worked a lot of counts. Nobody saw more pitches than Dexter. Fowler at their their concern. They WANNA see some some some benefit. You know some some success for his wellbeing as well. You know I mean. Competence comes from that he needs to get some returns on the work that he's put in things that he's been trying to do You know it's a continuation a lot on fair continuation probably but a continuation of struggles that towards the end of last season as well But he you know they dig. They're willing to give up the chance he's GonNa Start You know I feel like it's interesting. I get asked a lot about like out well Dylan Carlson displaying and he is and then how poorly dexter fowler is and he's searching for a little bit in the timing is right for him to now show that he can put it together but there are three outfield spots. Thought Right on any team. Am I wrong on this? You're right so I I think though baiters made some strides i. I've seen some good things in this camp with him. Yeah I think so but I mean the cardinals have made it pretty clear that their preference coming out of spring is to have baiter. Tyler neal extra fowler as their uncle. Now things could change. You know they could have some difference You know there with performance and everything like that but you know the opening day lineup is not gonna be the March fifteen and a half to be that. They don't have to make that the October first line of it's GonNa evolve and I think we know that performance we've seen that shield will have performance dictate that and it's not always performance in March. It's certainly performance in April and May and June dictate starting in August and September when those fan joined the party all season long at hotshot sports bar and grill at one of their eleven area locations rate food and drink specials available during every blues game. Do you see him breaking camp potentially with the cardinals. And we'll wrap it up with this. Yeah I don't know I mean I. I agree to either really wide open. I mean it's it's you know I get asked alike. Well what's the opening day roster? It's it's the first week of March. You know if I want to be wrong. I'll tell you all about it but I'll be wrong. So what what's the exercise Junior Fernandez fit into it. Well they don't know because they don't know who's going to be healthy ten days from now things happen Is Ed Mondo Sosa going to be on it? Well you know you might be Brad Mile Miller might be healthy and be back. He's supposed to be back in the starting lineup against Boston. So you know there's a lot of unknowns out there In some of them some trickle down to you know what I mean is Brazzi so ready to go. Do they want him to be ready to go. You know what does that do the bullpen? It's just a lot and you know. I think one way one answer to what you're asking. Dan Is this watch. How Much Dylan? Carlson plays in the next week the next two weeks really do dictate a lot of where the cardinals are leaning towards with some of these as you wrap up camp. There's no question about it if Dylan Carlson and he did not start against Minnesota You know that's worth noting. If he goes several days without appearing are without starting then you can read the writing on the wall. The cardinals are taking control of what they can control. And if he doesn't get it bats he can't produce them and he's not getting a Batson. Somebody else is and that meets. Somebody else is doing the longer. Look to get ready for the opening guy. It's not as not as much of the wo- fact anything but they're still definitely obviously that respect and you know that that just respect factor of me knowing what they've been able to do and how they've been able to do it so. Just you know like last year. Our schedules really sinked up. So we'd be in the cage lifting together all these same cool things just where it was really neat and I you know. I was real appreciative of all the information. He's willing to share. Just one of those things where I could go up to them with any sort of question you know. He's GonNa give me a real diligent and well-thought-out answer he really you could tell he means and it's It really means a lot and then Willie McGee guy. He was the Minor League outfield coordinator when I got drafted so he. I've been around him every single year and to be out here with them every day. Now it's been really cool. That's something else what's your relationship like with. Everybody talks about how we communicate. And like you know where you stand even if you might not like what you hear you know where you stand yeah He's been tremendous You know he's like you said he's a great communicator. And he's a really great guy so it makes it an incredible credible Experience how much time have you spent in Saint Louis Farm Just the winner warm up and then when I got drafted the couple of days I was there for two hit and do the physicals and all that so not too much much maybe total level week. Now also so when you're down in Jupiter Like who you hanging out with. What are you doing? Yes so For me I hang out a couple of guys. I played AA with Roel Ramirez Guy. He's a pitcher He's a guy. Hang out with a lot but I have been hanging out with some guys on the team. So it's been pretty neat excited. Yeah where do you like to go when you're out and about around here There's been a couple of spots that I've been trying out. That are pretty good. I went to capital Grill last night. That's a nice guy and a major league experience so when you go to when he goes to cabinet or what. Are you getting usually dainty little guy? But you're going for me. I did go Bonin Riba when you hit from both sides of the plane major. You're doing this and you're thrilled. It was it was a good time. That's for sure Well I appreciate it man. Thanks so much for coming out here in doing this. And Invested in Twenty Twenty Bill. Thank you I appreciate all right so there it is Dylan. Carlson here on the show is presented by Mark Hanna of Evergreen Wealth Strategies that we talk it over the home loan expert dot com studios in those studios over at Roger Dean Stadium. So far we've been joined by Jack Flaherty Paul Goldschmidt and now Dylan Carlson. That is a hell of a way to start off our spring training interviews in Jupiter Florida. More to come of course so couple of things that stand out to me from the Dylan. Carlson interview he has. He has been trained to not to avoid the question about coming up with the cardinals this year. Smart I mean listen. I wanted a dancer in by that. I mean yeah I want to be there and if I'm not there something's wrong but you know the smart thing to do is to say you know. I just want to be the best I can. And everything will take care of itself. As I said he kind of Bull Durham to me. But he had to do what he had to do. Twenty one years old. He's not in a spot where you can pop up pops off and he gets criticized so and then it's probably a problem with the cardinal so he's handling it the right way. Secondarily stabs a high school baseball coach and he was around the game from a young age. And I'm telling you the more that I'm now especially with a kid albeit you know two years old but just talking now I guess more parents and then getting hip to the way that this works so often and I don't like to say this because I don't want like parents to go. Oh now that means I need a bat my kids hand to or something or golf club and my kids hand at two or something like that but so often a lot of the players whether it be baseball golf. I don't know I that's those are the ones I I speak to so I can't speak otherwise to you. Know hockey or something along those lines but they are. They are developing a ridiculously early agency. You heard Dylan's story of switch hitting Which is not as commonplace in Major League Baseball as it was for me as a cardinal fan in the nineteen eighties where I felt like every hitter was switch hitter in the lineup. Oh here's Vince. Coleman here's Willie McGee Years Tommy Her Who Else Missing Terry Pendleton Right Feel like I'm missing obvious ones Ozzie. Smith I didn't say that I'll be whatever ever ever. It was great. I loved it Super Super Rare. Now Dexter Fowler and Dylan Carlson Dylan. Carlson just picks up a bat and start swinging from the left side. That's how it happened at six years old. If there's I said it's a seven figure decision so why I mean what a break there. Can you imagine if in the middle of the order? The cardinals have a switch hitter with power and speed. I mean this is. I don't know I'm so anxious to see how this plays out over the next month because you could have the the famous Kris Bryant situation except on the cardinals hands. I also thought it was of no for Paul Goldschmidt. Take him under his wing. That that to me I was GONNA say it on the front end but I don't WanNa ruin it for the interview and that stands out to me. I think for those of you who watched Cardinal Post game. You heard you may have heard Goldschmidt on the on the podcast last week. You know. He's he's not a he's a ballplayer. He is interested in baseball. He's interested in his family. And that's that he's not interested in screwing around. He is interested in just playing the game and being with his family. And I made this observation last year in the clubhouse because it was one of his first days with the team that I saw him walk over to Jack Flaherty and inflator was sitting at a little table in the middle of the clubhouse where the players eat and came over to him and asked him about his pickoff. Move to try and like pick you know certain reads in Enough Goldschmidt flirty WanNa Goldschmidt to be in a certain position. The pickoff move and I thought it was of note first off that Goldschmidt after like one workout would pick up on that and then go over to this up and coming pitcher and then they'll I try to specify and work on it because first off that's just you know a guy who's is baseball through and through. That's just not just some of you might go well. Why wouldn't eat but I'm telling you that's just not common And then secondarily that it's Jack Flaherty that Goldschmidt recognize that talent even though they faced each other. I think a handful of times but young guy who knows is going to be one of the anchors for this ball club in twenty one thousand nine hundred. Well who is taken Dylan Carlson under his wing this year. Paul Goldschmidt and I just don't it's not to say Goldschmidt standoffish or anything like that. He's a ballplayer and I just think he's trying to put them on the track to keep him on the straight and narrow and be there for him I think that is you know as far as A mentor goes. That's a good one. And you know listen. Goldschmidt picked out flaherty last year booked. A pretty tight read and This year I was surprised by that wasn't the answer I was expecting. Carlson's out in the outfield. Goldsmiths over at first base. There's an eleven year age gap there and Goldschmidt End. Goldschmidt is by no means you know super extroverted as he'd be the first one to tell you if you didn't hear it in the interview last week that's where he said it and he's taken. Carlson under his wing. That stands out to me as well so I am the way. I approached watching spring training. I'm loving watching not only Carlson's at bats But Gorman and Thomas is at bats. I'm focused I mean it's been you know carpenter's been trying to go to the opposite field that certainly of note as well but these guys and the way they hit the ball it's exciting. It truly is exciting and like I said if they call him up to start the season and he is a starting outfielder. Cardinal fans are going to be buzzing if he has a ridiculous spring and certainly. He's off to a ridiculous start albeit super early if he has a ridiculous spring and he does not the start the season with the club the Part of the fan base which they a healthy percentage that is angst ridden or angry or frustrated or confused that will only increase if he has an incredible spring and if he does not start the season with the big club. I suppose the the out on that I would give myself. As if you know Baiter oneal Thomas Fowler all have great springs as well but if a couple of those guys have bad springs and if Carlson has not even the Pacers on right now but even seventy five percent of the pace. He's on right now and he doesn't start the season with big club. The part of the fan base that is not real happy with the front office is only going to get more frustrated. And I have to tell you something. I wouldn't blame them so there..

"I I think the only way that Dylan Carlson will break in my opinion. Obviously I don't know I don't think anybody knows and let's do it. Carlson come spring camp and hits five hundred and you know steals bases and makes highlight reel plays in the outfield. I don't think you know that he's going to start the year with Saint Louis and let's not forget unless business. The number of outfielders change there are a lot of guys ahead of him in the pecking order. That needed bats. We need to see what tyler kneels got. We need to understand what Lane Thomas Thomas brings to the table when he's healthy. We need to see if the rose arena was just a short term. Wonder then you look at Justin Williams and it does Garcia and write these guys all on the forty man roster and there's not enough could be pets go around the killer. Carlson probably will get a big enough opportunity to earn a major league. The job I could be wrong could do but it stands right now. There are other guys that they have to see what they have in them before they get around to Carson. And I I think you know maybe part of the reason that the cardinals might be looking at other outfielder lefthanded hitting outfielder. This winter is to say. Hey let's get another if it's not gonNA sooner let's get another starter. Who is good enough? He can hold down the fort but isn't so good that we wouldn't be able to make him the fourth outfielder when Carlson shows Rosie's ready final question. BRIAN CARDINAL NATION DOT COM. What are you working on right now where we're cranking top fifty prospects of the year? Now we're down into the top twenty Winnie and every day. A new one is unveiled. And you know right around the end of the year. We'll we'll show number one and then we'll get into some analysis articles on on our new top fifty for twenty twenty love shortly after beheading on instructional camp in Jupiter Florida prior to warm up when we when is instructional camp by the way the first couple of weeks of J breath down there. We have to deal with populist down there. We'll get warm. We'll get some get some golden retrievers. I like it. I like it a Brian. Thanks so much. We'll catch up next next Wednesday..

"You so much for joining us you grab and you bad what was the season like for you in terms of your professional growth and learning being Aa then at AAA finishing up on a high note what was that like for you it was incredible for me it started in spring training being able to be around everyone on the team being able to be around you know such a leap binds people that just view the game difference really it's it's really a pleasure and an honor to be around those people each and every day and just all throughout the season I really just took the mindset of China learn and find a way to go you better each and every day and for me I felt like really beneficial and you know like I said in this organization you're surrounded by so many great minds that there's just so much earn each and every day you spend so much time in major league camp and you basically talked a little bit about it right there what what was that experience like what did you take away from that be in down with the the major leaguers for for such a long time during a spring training for me I found it really beneficial just being able to pick their brains being able to hang out and just see the way they approached the game how professional they handle themselves on and off the field and just the a they really like to compete like at the end of the day is just such a big competition and everyone just wanted the best out of themselves and everyone around him so I really took note it just the way everyone about their business and for me I found really beneficial you were called up to triple a. by the end of the year how about that experience in being in all to kind of add that to your resume and then finish up the year on a high note how important you think that is going into next year definitely is a huge honor to be moved from Aa to AAA once again I was just able to be around great minds every day and it really helped my game I think being able to you know play at another level and you know Kinda see see a new league and I really found a beneficial to play each and every day out in Memphis and you know like like you said it was it was a really cool experience and I'm GonNa try to take that into next season and continued to build off what I learned you mentioned that you're around great minds who are who are some of those great minds at maybe a been influential or you know those that you kind of lean on as your as you're growing to get to to the big leagues starting in spring I mean being able to be around Willie McGee every day is just such an honor and a privilege you know there's there's a bunch of players and you know Paul Goldschmidt Matt Carpenter Wainwright Audie all those guys it's just not around them and be able to talk to them and how willing they are share information and pass along their experience it's incredible and then you know going throughout the season my hitting coach and double A. Brandon Allen was always he's been a big big health from it the alter my minor league career last few seasons so for me you know just being able to be around those type of people it really elevates my game and makes me want to be better player you know you you've been around the Game Forever Your Dad was your coach you played at a high level you played with guys that are older than you but did you ever have see those kind of like wow I'm talking to Yadi I'm talking away no I'm talking to Goldie an I'm on their level I'm appear and they're they're taking an interest in meted than any that kind of stuff happened for you definitely for me this spring that say I I ran into that right away you know you introduce yourself you meet every one but then as you know I stuck around a little bit longer and spring and a little bit longer it Kinda start to get more personal with guys and that's when I really realized like I'm you know I'm sitting at the table with all these guys you know whether it's Yada Your Malino or wainwright or just anyone in that clubhouse it's such a privilege and honor to be around you said it was just incredible how how willing they were to share their experience with me and council some of the things they've throughout this game you dad I would imagine nobody knows your swing better than anybody make that statement and correct me if I'm wrong but D- does he come in visit you at all during the season or does he see video does he go on the APP and see the Minor League Games do you guys talk a lot or is he kind of say you know what I got him this point he's worked his tail off he's there Let those guys do what they do I you know what I mean it's kind of a balancing act I'm assuming for your dad definitely he he he doesn't miss an APP that he watches every every single out bad on the on the APP and for him he he he likes to chime in here in their he's real passionate about the sport and you know his coaching and all that stuff so he definitely tries to chime in but he of course the under stands that I have coaches and I have a pretty good feel of what I'm doing now at this point so he he definitely understands but he's always there you know just that that extra voice and you know trying to pass along what he's seeing and like it like you said he's always been a part of my life and he's been a big mentor for me ever since I started playing so for me it's it's really cool to have someone like that who takes not much who has not much passionate about the sport and then tries to help me in any way possible Oh are you natural lefty or Righty at the play yeah I'm a natural right handed hitter but the left-handed I get so many bats that it it it almost becomes my natural l. side during the season just with the splits and all that stuff so natural right handed hitter but I've been hitting left-hander for a long time as well and you throw left so when you think about going forward with what you need to work on what were the things that in particular both left and right that you try to maybe a you know as you critique yourself tried to improve upon his advanced in these levels yeah for me it's just really execute my plan day for me it's finding a way to stick to my approach and be as consistent as possible each and every day you know really trying not to give into the other team the the way they're trying to get me out or the way they're trying to you know pitch to me a certain way so for me I really try to hone in and focus in on my on my which and really dial it in my mindset make sure everything's locked in and just go about my business each and every day the same way and keep that same attitude whether I go before four for for just stay hungry each and every day wanting to get better that's really the thing I focused on there's nothing physical necessarily I really try to focus on what I'm hitting I just really focus on the mental part are you of are you a video guy I mean it seems like everybody's in video but video guy idea dive into it and then when you're looking in video are you evaluating yourself or you're looking at the picture as well because there's so much information how do you try to you know take it all in and comprehend for me I watch video on the on the other team Spitzer's I don't watch too much video and myself there are times when maybe certain way and I just need some reassurance on what I'm feeling then I'll go watch video myself but besides that I only watch video on the opposing pitcher yes and I really just try to focus on the way they try to pitch similar to me and ways they try to get them out and then I formulate a game plan and really try to play to my strengths and find ways to get the best results growing up on the west coast did you have a favorite team yeah I grew up a fan of the Yankees I I went to cooperstown when I was around ten years old and I was able to you know be around New York City and stadium and all that so it was a pretty cool the experience and I I just I don't know something about the whole being there just kinda rooted for the Yankees growing up and then yeah his favorite player growing up was prince fielder we got a little body type you know I mean it's a little different we do but when I was younger I was a little bit of the heavy your kids so I really I really the thing I enjoyed most watching him was how much passion he played the game with and how excited he was and just the way you really enjoyed playing the game it always looked like he had such a great time that was something I really just groupon doesn't really appreciated watching all the time I I'm curious to see you hear much from the the cardinals major league staff you know you're around them so much in spring training for a couple of months if not before then when guys get there even after Christmas but did you get text messages or phone call from Mike Shield or Jeff Albert or any of those guys just checking in doing no I didn't I didn't get any specific messages from them but of course I heard I heard some things from the people that would come through you know telling me keep up the good work and stuff like that so you know I I really had a great time in spring training and I learned a lot and you know I I really felt those people had a really good understanding and they really cared about what I was doing so you know it's like like I said earlier it's a real pleasure to be around such great minds of the game high school now to to get paid to do this what what were the major adjustments and what are the major adjustments that you've had to make to get to at least at this point the trip ole level for me you know right away when you sign you gotta get used to playing every day that's something different it's different it's different toll on your body then playing you know whether it's two three times a week in high school or at the travel ball circuit so that was one thing right away that I had to get used to just playing a day and then on top of that you gotta you know bring coming coming to the park every day ready to go so for me I was just something I really found right away that I needed to just not not saying I wasn't ready but I just felt like there was more I could have done to be ready and you know really prepare myself and now is something I think being around game.

"That makes sense theoretically but intentionally overdosing seems like a bit of a stretch even for someone involved in a murder conspiracy how would courtney know if she'd survive their point why kill for money if she wouldn't be alive to use it and that's all the evidence for the kelly theory so did kelly kill kurt was the only person staying at the house when kurt died if he didn't kill him it seems plausible he could have been in on the murder conspiracy detective grant never met kelly and to this day kelly refuses to talk about kurt's death on the record kelly's behavior at the time is pretty strange there's no concrete evidence to support the theory that he killed kurt scale of one to ten the likelihood of kelly's involvement in kurt's death is around three the second person suspected of conspiring with courtney to kill kurt his own best friend dylan carlson who failed to show detective grant the room above the garage while they searched the house for kurt dillon also bought the gun used to end kurt's life dylan was kurtz best friend though he claims he never would have purchased a gun for kurt if he thought kurt was suicidal but a story about the room above the garage changed when he in detective grant heard the news of kurt's death detective grant questioned why dylan failed to mention the room dealing brushed it off saying it was just a dirty little room but later he claimed not to know it existed at all it's important to remember that many of the key players in this story were addicted to drugs including dylan addiction is messy and complicated to say the least people with the disease aren't known for being reliable true dylan maintains his innocence and again the just isn't enough evidence to support the theory that he killed kurt it seems even less likely than the kelly theory we'd rank at around one or two on a scale of one to ten but while dylan and kelly deny any involvement and kurt's death there is another man who claimed to know the person responsible.
