"At 1 30 Eastern 10 30 Pacific CBS Sports Network gets on the gridiron at West Point as the Army Black Knights. Welcome Middle Tennessee. Don't miss college football on the 20 for our home. CBS Sports also the home of Tiki Interior. Tiki Barber here, CBS Sports Radio CBS Sports Network. I forget the game last week. Central Arkansas or something like that first play the game. 77 yard touchdown, pretty epic epic Way to start the college football season of 2020. And I gotta be honest, I didn't think it was going to happen. I was on record saying and often that the college football season because of the risk to the student athletes, and especially after they discovered that myocarditis, which was health, a heart issue for some of these bigger offensive lineman in the Big 10, which ultimately led to Cancelation another, You know, obviously inputs from the medical advisers, etcetera, the cancellation of the fall sports in all big and all the big 10. I thought that that was the fore bearer of really bad news for college sports, But I mean, I gotta be be fair here. Colleges have done a heck of a job in their athletic programs, at least a football programs that we're following and we're seeing. Of identifying really quickly and then limiting the spread of the Corona virus is one of the things that you really worried about. With these colleges because there is an 18 1920 year old kids, they feel like they're invincible. I remember when I was 1918 or 19. You just feel invincible like you could do anything. And get away with anything. And even in the face of this corona virus pandemic that you could you know you could still go out hang out with people and it would be okay. But I got to give credit to where Credit's due. With all these colleges, SEC SEC, even in the big 12 as well. Despite some pretty big outbreaks on their campuses. They're managing it, and it looks like the season is at least going to start and that's that's that's more than I thought. What happened so Kudos to college, the college football programs that are actually going through with this season so far and have not had really any issues, including West Point in Middle Tennessee, who will be on CBS Sports Network. Tomorrow. Okay, So we've all followed this and we're waiting on Joe Tacopina, who is a lawyer for Daniel Snyder to give us a ring going to some details about what's going on with this defamation lawsuit. The Daniel Snyder is filing against his partners, some of his minority partners in the Washington football team, But we've followed this just to get a recap. What's going on? We've been following this For a while now, obviously, when the the name change became a really big issue. That's when it hit the media. That's when it hit the our consciousness and then very quickly we started to see some inclinations or innuendo is going to be a big story. There's going to be a big story. Just wait. The Washington Post is going to put out something big. And we ultimately saw it and it was shocking and caused a real big cultural shift and a need for a cultural change An internal investigation by the Beth Wilkinson, which we talked about Happened and if you were in the process of it now, But there's something else under underlying that which I think we need to try to get to the bottom of right now, and we're going to do it now with Joe Tacopina, who's been on the show before he's a friend of Tiki and tearing Hes representing Daniel Snyder in this defamation lawsuit, Joe welcome back to the show. Hey, guys. Thanks for you Know, Joe, when I When I first heard about this, this Washington Post article I want to start there for right now. It sounded like Man. Daniel Snyder has been running a rogue ship here and there's some bad actors. We saw some guys getting fired or or leaving the organization. One of the announcers left as well. But Daniel Snyder himself felt insulated from all of it. It was just a bad culture, not the similar to what happened with Mark Cuban down in Dallas with the Dallas Mavericks, and he pulled through it ultimately, and we don't really even think about it anymore. What's Daniel Snyder's mindset regarding all of the things that are happening around his organization Right now, this is irrespective of the defamation lawsuit, which we'll get to in a second. Yeah, we'll get you another one point that he said something in the introduction to go was very telling that people were talking about a story. And new facts about the story then that came out with well before it came out, and that's something we should get back. But to answer your question here, look Snyder and conjure Schneider, quite frankly, are really just two of the nicest people. I've ever met, and they really care about what's going on and what has happened there. But let me make one thing very clear. And you like the market situation. I don't think that's for war because There were no direct allegations have sport. There's no direct allegations against and no one's saying Dan made a crude comment to someone or or did something inappropriate sense that the inappropriate text message or anything like that? There were members of his enormous organization. Who may or may not have it. I don't know all the facts around it. But let's assume the obligation who may have acted inappropriately said inappropriate things or or and again, there's no this is not one of these. Where there's sexual assault allegations like that, But that's inappropriate things in the workplace in today's very hypersensitive workplace, inappropriate things, but one of these things, most of these things they backed over a decade ago. Kiki over a decade dance night of routinely And we want to encounter one year when he would literally at the Western corporate offices seven days in one year. So yes, he's the owner. He's the president and he's he's man enough to say I take responsibility for my organization. Tell me what else was supposed to do when he found out about the allegation. And when he believed there was American. Any of the allegations, however, know the due process. You know, didn't really play out the way wouldn't he found out there were allegations. He took swift and immediate action requiring made across the board. The end, one who was accused Out of Inappropriate conduct. Yeah, he did. What else was he supposed to do? Just for? He could have taken measures for him. But yes, I know about it. Yes, to be told about it. That's the thing he was in a position of of, uh, wasn't an operator. He wasn't someone who'd in what skins? You know? I didn't take it very seriously. Yeah, on DH. They've opened their doors to investigators. In this case, somebody What's going on, Make recommendations. Yeah, and that's and that's important in jail. Let me interrupt, but that's important. Like he got the investigation, he hired the Beth Wilkinson Now the NFL has taken that over, but the plot thickens a little bit. When you really start to dig into this, and I remember a couple of weeks ago, I was hosting a show. I was also by myself, and I remember Wanting to defend Daniel Snyder because of the rhetoric coming from his minority investors. Dwight Schar. Fred Smith is obviously one and there's another Rothman Is the other one that they were. They were trying to force a sale and and it was they wanted him to sell because it would have increased the value of their shares. It felt ugly at the time. And now, two weeks later, after I've learned a little bit more, it feels like this was intentional. Tell us a little bit about this defamation lawsuit that Daniel Snyder is filing..

"And taking that giant leap forward that season. So they have these kind of setbacks. Both injury wise and out, you know, quietly, just being demoted and not being considered. Ah, you know, for one of these situations here with both fan and I would judge He's the guy that between years I kind of worry about because he had such a high high at the beginning and now has been hit with a little low. That if he comes through this, and eventually he'll get another shot. I believe he's just too talented not to get another shot. But I want to see him come through this mentally in this organization, Or is that the type of player is this? The kind of guy that maybe at this point you could use as a chip. Maybe reinforce your pitching staff, and he might need a fresh start in another royal myself, But that's what I'm starting to think it feels, And this is not his fault. It feels like he's been Wally Pipp Band because Geo or Shallah is far better defensively. And I continues to head him, he said on clean up today, you know he's right. Right? So I think it's almost like the wears his future. Right, Geo. Still a relatively young guys going anywhere anytime soon. Yeah. Do you see on game talking to Ricky Ricardo and I and I doubt it because of the nature of this season, But you know, the trade deadline's actually coming up in a couple weeks, August 31st you you see Yankees doing anything, you see anybody doing any kind of significant traits this year? Oh, are you getting some bullpen reinforcement? I think the loss of kingly eyes big. You know, Green's been good holder's been good, but you cannot have enough arms coming out of the bullpen, especially with expanded playoffs. How much of the starting pitchers and just you know, maybe going 56 innings outside of Gary Cole, so I could definitely see Brian Cashman making another move or no. The bullpen are because believe, maybe the loss of mainly It is bigger contest, and it seems on the surface. He was a guy that you could use in different situations. He might be that guy, you know, like a campus situation with serious coming up. That might be the guy that you know it might look for some retribution. There's a lot of little things about Tom again. We're going to be sorely missed. So I do think that the cash will make a move for another arm before the end of the month. We'll see Yankees Red Sox begin tonight. We got the pregame show coming up about 45 minutes. Ricky. Thank you Appreciate it. If you guys real quick. Yeah. All teams are coming are going to be playing. Teams that were just swept at home. So I met Billy's just got swept by the Orioles stock just went by the Tampa Bay Rays. I don't like it when you come when you're playing a team that just got what those two dangerous situations because of a law of averages pocket. Yeah, well, especially the fact that Jake now is not pitching tonight. So you also thrown out into the mix. Even Mohr from the For the med aspect. You know, Here's the thing The Phillies have a chance to be good. The Red Sox think there's a difference there and and it is the Yankees. So I mean, it's you know, it's not Let's fact that added as well. Joe wanted to know before I leave you guys, but I don't know where you stand on this. But I can't be any happier and happier to see Gregg Popovich out of the playoff there. I look, I have. I have absolutely no love for Gregg Popovich Sow Nor do I. I want him out. We found out yesterday that long time team play by play man, Larry Michael. He did retire, and he's no longer with the organization. So when we've digested all this information at first, when you heard about these stories and and potential stories before we found out about this Washington Post article that did come out About 15 20 minutes ago. You were thinking that All right. You know, you had the team name the the the whole big controversy. And maybe these owners are just fed up. You know, the minority owners are fed up with Dan Snyder. And the last few days we kept on just hearing and hearing and hearing and everywhere last night, Really? Right after I logged off the show when I was on Twitter you kept on seeing people tweet. I've been told that this article's coming out from the Washington Post and it's going to be damaging and it's going to be ugly and as someone that was sitting there, I was waiting for this article and I go. Everyone's telling you this story is going to be so ugly. It's going to be so bad. It's going to be so wrong. What's the actual story? Because there's part of me that felt like you were getting teas and people were teasing this article, and the article didn't come out yet. So you knew by Friday the article was going to come out when Maura more people did catch wind of the story, and you kept on seeing It wasn't a random person. These were significant NFL writers, significant prominent people in the media one after another after another. Condemning the Redskins condemning Washington's football team and telling you that there was going to be a major story that was going to be released. So to be fair. I have. Not. Since this came out 15 20 minutes ago. I have not been able to read the whole story, but I was able to highlight a few parts of the story. And it's ugly. It is. It is really ugly. I don't know what is true. I don't know all the details, but the headline is 15 women. Have accused then Washington employees of sexual harassment. Going from 2006 to 2019. All the stuff we're about to read to you is directly from the Washington Post article. That's probably the best way to attack it right now, because I have not been able to go through all this in its entirety. Just being honest with me straight up. So let me read you some of the parts that I was able to screen shot and highlight here. A few months after this how it starts off a few months after Emily Applegate started working for the Washington Redskins in 2014 she settled into a daily routine. She would meet a female coworker in the bathroom. During their lunch breaks, she said, to commiserated and cry about the frequent sexual harassment and verbal abuse they endured. They cried about the former chief operating officer. Expletive place tirades, Applegate said when she called when she recalled him, calling her bleeping stupid. And then requesting she wear a tight dress for a meeting with clients. So the men in the room have somethingto look at. They cried about a wealthy, sweet holder who grabbed her friends back side during a game, Applegate said, and the indifference that team's top salesman Top sales executive displayed when she complained, so that's how it opens up the entire article. Applegate is one of 15 former female Redskins employees who told the Washington Post that they were sexually harassed during their time at the club. The other 14 woman spoke on the condition of anonymity, citing a fear of litigation as some sign nondisclosure agreements with the team that threatened legal retribution if they speak negatively about the club. The team declined a request from the posed to release former female employees from those agreements so they could speak on the record without fear of legal Reprisal. This story involved interviews with more than 40 current And former employees and review of text messages and internal company documents..

"We got some fun stuff out of the embassy. We asked him crazy stuff out of the embassy. But first as we begin our too, a little bit Mohr off of the Washington Redskins story that we talked about a few minutes ago. Many people in the media Jason Locke, and for a long time, CBS Sports NFL insider television reporters in Washington. Have put out on social media today that a big story is going to break either tomorrow Thursday or Friday from the Washington Post. That is going to be really bad for the Washington football team, and it's going to be unrelated to the nickname It's not about changing the nickname from Redskins, too. Whatever it winds up being It is a different story, and it's been described as bad culture and toxicity. This is what Jason Locke and four other people are putting out there. We've seen some Things thrown out there on Twitter about what some people are hearing it might be, but these are not people with check marks. He's not people we can't corroborate. We can corroborate. But look, if you if you had to say off the top of your head if you're thinking there's a bad story coming out about the Washington Redskins, it's not about the nickname. What are all the bad stories about everything that would have been in that show that ESPN Hansel all those years ago stuffing playmakers? It would be sex. It would be drugs. It would be something and that would be really, really bad. It would involve a lot of people, and that's kind of what you look like. I said. We don't know what it is. We're not going to say what people are are saying it is because there's no way to corroborate it. But just that's what you would think about. Okay. It's got to be sex drugs. What it also based on what people are throwing out there. I mean, we're talking Pervasive throughout the entire organization. Sure, it's yes, there's the bad stuff with players and we're talking everybody all the way up there up and down the ladder. So, yeah, just a grisly grouping of terms being put out there right now, and it would be bad news for Daniel Snyder. So now let's think about all of this going on for a second. Now let's go back a week. Yes, the nickname thing was kind of surprising. I don't know that it came out of nowhere. Now. Now, let's say there's a big story breaking tomorrow. Now let's go back and look at the Washington drama for the past 10 to 12 days, and even Mohr things fall into place, because what did we say when this first happened? Something Started this because nobody was talking about the Washington Redskins changing their nickname. Nobody wants nobody that it wasn't a hot button topic. It was something that come up many times before, but this wasn't a topic that It was front and center. It was it's easy to say, Well, you know, it could have been something that is coming off of the the situation in the country with being able to stamp out racism, and absolutely you know you'd be you'd be right. But I don't know that it would have just come out of nowhere for that. So Why did this story happened? Well, let's think about this. The minority owners shortly after Fred Smith, the founder of FedEx, wanted the Redskins to change their name shortly after this happened. The minority owner said. We want out. We do know not want to do business with Daniel Snyder anymore. Don't want to do it anymore. But the name change was the big deal named Jane. Jane Jane Jane Jane. I don't think suddenly I don't think there's any way that suddenly the Minority owners would want out from a business over just the name right? I don't want to say just name like it's not a big deal, but this was something that has been going on for 10 years. It's not a new story line. It's not a new drama, and it's great that the nickname is getting obliterated because over the course of the past few years, more and more evidence has come up that it is a racist term that many people don't like where you're native American or not, and we have to stamp out racism. So I get that part. That's a that's a good part of this. But for suddenly FedEx to be that upset to say we want out, Okay? Something else was going on. Another shoe was going to drop. And when we talked about it this week, it was well, maybe Fred Smith wants to push Daniel Snyder out and take over. I don't want to be in business with Daniel Snyder. Now things started to fall into place. Why isn't Daniel Snyder in the country? Why is he still out of the cut? You still out of the country for the Washington Redskins nickname controversy? Why is he not here? Why is it Why is he out? Why he's even out of the country for a long time, right? I've seen enough TV shows to know. That, you know, I've watched West wing enough that when the bad news is coming, they would always keep the president of the United States, right. Ah, make sure he doesn't come back. He's in Helsinki or he's on some kind of, you know, whenever something bad. Yeah. Get hell thinking, you know, or we're going to Iceland or something else, but Daniel Snyder has not been in the country. So now you have minority owners who want him out. You have not heard anything from Daniel Snyder on this change when normally he would be front center wanting to seem like he is leading This charge, say Okay, I got to make it look like it's my idea. For the longest time, I said, we're never changing this nickname. He has not been anywhere we've heard from Ron Rivera, who supposedly is working closely with Daniel Snyder about figuring out the new nickname for the Redskins. And now this story comes out that something is going to blow everybody away with a toxic culture story about the Washington Redskins. And that's where all the dominos go. Think, think, Think, Or if you're playing like Connect four guys think, Think, Think, Think, Think, Think, Think, And it all fits and four across I went and suddenly all the events of the past 10 days take on a bigger significance. And maybe the nickname change was just thrown in. Hey, while we're doing this, let's change the nickname Let's make sure or that was the tipping point to all of this right because nothing was brought up for always altruistic values of Let's make sure we change a nickname. It's the right thing to do. No, there's business behind closed doors, and and there's reasons why Fred Smith and the minority owners pushed forward with what they were doing now there's there's There's a business reason behind that. There's some kind of PR image thing behind why this story comes out when it does. So now, all of a suddenly this story gets even bigger in scope. And you wonder what it's gonna wind up enveloping? Is it going to threaten Daniel Snyder owning the Washington Redskins? Is it going to threaten other people in the organization? Where does it go? What's the story? I mean, obviously, we're waiting for it. But but this is now gets even bigger and everything kind of falls into place now. Yeah. Do they try to put everything whatever shows up in this report, either tomorrow or Friday at his feet. Right. Ah, members of his family and he owned what about 60% when it's all said and done, right? French Smith, the black Diamond capital, CEO, Rothman envy Our Ain't Dwight Schar. They've got about 40% so The idea of them either wanting to sell theirs or Teo tryto leverage and and force. Daniel Snyder and his family. And if members of his family one out that maybe you're already getting creeping towards that 51% that you need to be the minority holders. Here are majority holders. I should say. But it makes for an interesting No corporate fight at one level. Look, he doesn't need to be in the room. At this point. You can't have everybody in the room anyway. Right? So where he is, I don't know that it has the same..

The pandemic not only led to a slowdown of almost all life as we know it, some serious economic hardship came with it. Some can not pay the rent or mortgage. Their unemployment benefits about to run out and backlogged eviction cases are beginning to make their way through the court system again. I spoke earlier with the Washington Post, Renae Merle to go deeper into this is that when the economy kind of came to a halt in March, most court's closed and addictions kind of came to our home. But people who are already late. We're just putting the backlog and those people are likely to now be even further behind. Their likely been furloughed or laid off facing some financial hardship is in addition, there are new people who were doing well at the beginning of the year are now just find themselves kind of scraping. Together every month. And so we're seeing this really big Scott, you know, rise in the number of addictions that we're expecting to see. Over the next year, he's met the national moratorium going to eventually, and some of the local moratoriums were put in place around the country are going to end fairly soon as well. Did you also find that there's going to be a disproportionate impact on renters of color here? Yes, definitely. So the country's rental population is more likely to be low to moderate incomes, the more likely to be black or Latino, and we've seen even in communities where there's a disproportionate number. Blacks are facing addiction. Like we saw that Milwaukee or thing that in Boston, somebody has just economics, unemployment rate among black was higher than other population. Um, of it's probably because of some historical discrimination that's been going on. But, yes, we're expecting to see this one. This increased happens. It's gonna hit minority neighborhoods First is going to hit minority neighborhoods harder. Is it possible that any moratoriums even at the local level could be extended or reinstated to save some of these renters here? Yes, Definitely. We saw that in Austin Austin text. Of course. They opened up for nearly two weeks and then closed back down. You know, Of course, there's been 1/6 spiking Corona virus cases in Texas, so their courts were opened up for two weeks and then closed right back down.
