Doncic has another triple-double, Mavs beat Rockets 129-114
"Luka Dončić stayed hot in the Mavericks picked up their 5th straight win by defeating the rockets one 29 one 14. Dončić provided 35 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists. Two nights after his 60 point triple double against the Knicks, former rocket Christian wood had 21 points on 5 of 8 shooting from beyond the ark. Dwight pal shot 8 for 8 off the bench while scoring a season high 19 points. Jalen Greene delivered 23 points for the rockets who trailed by 25 at one point and lost for the 7th time in 8 games. "Me, the Dallas Mavericks, Josh Greene, who I think has turned himself into a trade asset this year. They got the Burton's contract, which every year becomes less bad. I think there's this year plus two more. And they can trade their 2026 or 27 first. And that's right around the price for somebody like Bogdanovich in the market. I don't see him going for like two firsts and things like that. And that's a guy that would be a really fun fit with Luca and with that whole team gives them a little bit of little playmaking, extra when Luke is on the bench, stuff like that. I think that's my favorite of all of these Bogdanovich to Dallas. Yes or no for you? I mean, I'm slightly a yes in the sense that he definitely supercharges with Lucas doing where you can't even sometimes teams, for instance when Denver played them the other night. They were times where they were like, okay, we're gonna have a rover against these Luca pick and rolls. And we're gonna help off of Finney Smith. We're gonna help off of Tim Hardaway junior at times. We're gonna send allocate extra resources, slough off in order to deal with what Luke is doing and pick and roll. You can't do that with Bogdanovich. Like he's just a different on a different planet when it comes to quality issue. And of course there's that play music component that he brings 'cause I think he's still underrated as a guy who has on ball juice. However, I think this should be saving their bullets for a person who can soak up possessions. Like in a meaningful way, not in a secondary Spencer Dinwiddie type of guy. They need somebody who can share possessions with Luca where he's not doing this 45 usage. Like Jalen Brunson? In a back? I don't know why was it expecting you to say that, but yeah, somebody like Jalen Brunson, but maybe in their dream, somebody better than that, right? Maybe they can go out and get Brad deal who finally feels like it's okay to leave. They're not going to have enough. I got a Brad Beal team later. I don't think they have enough to get Brad Beal. But I will say this though. You know? I said this to our guy, Michael pina a few weeks ago. When the Kyrie thing, he was at rock bottom from a stock standpoint. And I was like, why wouldn't Dallas go for Kyrie right now? Take the swing. It's just like Dinwiddie and Dwight pals expiring. And Michael to his credit was just like, nope, I'm out. I'm not doing that. Not mess with Kyrie. I got Luca. Yeah. But I do think they need to do like a swing. On that level. I think the Kyrie ship has sailed for a trade like that because he's rebuilt some of his value. And he probably has more value to Brooklyn and Anna and their team because KD, for whatever reason, loves playing basketball them. Can bring out the best in them. The reason why Kyrie makes sense because of his role in 2016, was the perfect one. LeBron is the point guard. He's the one that drives the offense, but every now and again for four straight possessions he would just be like, Kyrie, here's the ball. Go do whatever it is. Feel freelance. He's like a rock guitarist. For like a minute. Go nuts. Next team is Houston at ten and 24. And they don't really have anything. It's going to be hard for them to sabotage themselves. I think it's really Gordon. And they're going to be in the bottom four. I think they're fine. They got the Eric Gordon trade chip. He's 19 and a half this year. Proven proven three point shooter in spacer. That happened the greatest year. He's like playing 30 minutes a game. 11.5 points, 35% from three. That

"And now, the low pose. Welcome to the low post podcast live from an undisclosed Los Angeles hotel, Los Angeles, the weather is always beautiful, even if the teams aren't very good, the weather is nice. We're not going to talk about either of the LA teams for a change. We're going to talk about three teams deep dive into them that we haven't hit yet and that are off to interesting starts, starting with the Dallas Mavericks, 7 and 5. 8th in offense, pretty good. 9th in defense. Okay. Last year, kind of doubling down on last year wasn't a fluke. 6th in net rating would usually portend a record a little better than 7 and 5. That's encouraging. Big games coming up against the nuggets twice the Celtics, the bucks and the flailing, flailing Golden State Warriors so we're gonna learn a lot about the Mavericks soon. Luka Dončić, 34 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, or maybe 9 to 6 8 rebounds. I don't care. It's a lot of everything on pace to break every isolation record in every database we have Tim McMahon. How are you? Howdy, howdy partner? How you doing? I'm doing well. I'm in a good mood this morning. I can see you seem very chipper. So I guess the biggest storyline with the Mavericks so far is Lucas doing everything and we're 12 games in and there's already concern that Luca is doing everything. They have been figuring out how best to integrate Christian wood. Their starters around Dinwiddie and Dončić have an alarming habit of all posting single digit scoring games between zero and 9 and sometimes zero is in play for one or two of them Reggie Bullock is off to his annually annual Reggie Bullock forget how to shoot starts with a season. That'll come to some degree they made their own bed with this when they screwed up the jail and Brunson situation he's doing very well in New York. I don't know this feels like team holding pattern holding till the next move holding till the theoretical number two guys here, but Dinwiddie Tim, 18 a game on good shooting, everything you could want from him, Christian wood, 16 a game on good shooting feels like there's some meat on the bone there. If this is a holding pattern, it's a pretty good holding pattern and I saw perk last week just right off the Mavs as first round exit, that's the ceiling for this team. That's all they are. I'm like, I'm not doing that as long as Luca is on the team because he's that good, but I kind of don't know how to feel about them 12 games in. How should I feel about them? That's a good question. And I agree with you. You can't just assume they're a first on exit because odds are they'll have the best player in that first round series. And you know, I can promise you this. The other playoff teams in the Western Conference aren't exactly eager to see Luka Dončić in a playoff series. Now, there is a reasonable question of how much gas is he going to have left in the tank by the time the playoffs roll around and he obviously got off to this crazy start. He's 30 plus points. First 9 games of the season. Him and will to the ones who have done that. And then they go on this back to back Orlando without Paulo. Washington without dealing KP. He stinks it up. He looks like he's just on E they lose both those games. He's well under 30 points, you know, shooting at 9 or 29 in one game, 8 to 21 with a little garbage buckets. In the next game. And you're like, dang, man. We haven't even gotten to Thanksgiving yet. Is he already running out of gas? And then he comes back the next game and goes for a 42 point triple double. And so obviously, the fact that he bounced back, he talked about, he had a great recovery day. Luca is going to have to be very diligent about taking care of his body. That means he's going to be very diligent about what goes into his body. You know, what's he eating? How much is he eating? What's he drinking? How much is he drinking? You know, and then just the recovery, all the boots and this and that. All the hot tub cold tub. All that kind of stuff. He's going to have to be extremely diligent because they are asking him to carry a load that I don't want to say it's unprecedented. But it's certainly uncommon. You know, you have to talk about Houston James Harden pre CP three. Maybe OKC, Russell Westbrook. These kind of loads and he mentioned that they messed up the Brunson situation. They messed it up and I could have had them on an extension. By the time he got the free agency, that thing, obviously, was he was head to New York. They weren't going to go on a match. They also messed up the Goran dragic situation. You know, Goran dragach is playing really, really well in Chicago. And I'm not going to tell him, hey, Goran dragach would have solved everything. He'd have been to 35 minute per game guy. The Mavericks didn't think he could be a 20 minute per game guy. They basically wanted him to be a foot shorter version of bob on, you know, go out to dinner with Luca, hang out, baby sit a little bit. Wave a talent at the end of the bench and every once in a while, get in the game. He's like, nah, I've got, I've got some juice. I've still got some juice. He's showing that Chicago, and they really need that third ball hander, you know, having said that, then what he has been really good didn't what he also has become. And it's getting the sample size getting big enough to where you can say, it ain't, you know, this ain't small sample size. He's becoming knocked down three point shooter. Especially, you know, you're asking that laser's game the other day. He made three or four in a row right down the stretch to snatch them a little bit of a good home win there. Right, and he'll tell you, hey, early in my career, I wasn't getting these clean catch and shoot opportunities that I've always been a pretty good catch and shoot guy. Now is a great catch and shoot guy. That's important. They need Finney Smith and Bullock to get back to being really good catch and shoot guys. Both of those guys, just like last year, are off to slow starts. You know, they went out and they used their one chip in free agency that taxpayer mid level to upgrade the starting center position. Oh, that upgrade was a DNP CD the other night, JaVale McGee's been a total bust. He's not better than Dwight pal. It's painfully obvious. Dwight pal is already back in the starting lineup, which anybody who's objective can see, hey, that's that should be the case. That's difficult, but I agree with you that they are in terms of legit contender. It's team holding pattern. And I think you've got to hold through this year after they pay the end of the porzingis deal with the pick that they owe there. Then they've got the full complement of picks, and they've at some point they've got to get a legitimate costar. But man, when Luke is this good, when he's just, hey, when Luke is in reasonable shape, they're still dangerous. They're still dangerous. The Bronson thing is interesting because when we say they screwed up, the Brunson situation were likely we are talking about the fact that they didn't offer him the four year $55 million extension in a timely enough fashion by the time it was on the table he had clearly outplayed it and usually my brain stops there. I had a GM asked me a couple weeks ago. Forget that. Why didn't they just overpay him this summer? I mean, the cap is going up. It's not like his contract with the Knicks is like a bad contract.

"Talking about starting Russ LeBron AD center fail. It failed. Bring them off to bed anyway, that's a different thing. But we haven't mentioned the pelicans who I think are very intriguing. If Zion comes in healthy and in shape, this is my point. This is my next set of teams. Minnesota is going to be really good. The pelicans are going to be really good. The Lakers are going to be stumping. I don't know what they're going to be. I think Portland's solid enough to chase if they stay healthy and get a little lucky, you know, they'll be okay. And the grizzlies, FYI, the number two seed from last season. Now they have a little bit more questions than I think people realize. Oh, huge questions. And they have. They were so deep last year, but the minute that depth starts to get promoted into bigger positions of minutes, the shakier it feels, but there's still the grizzlies they're gonna fight like hell, they have an absolute superstar in morant. They're tough as nails defensively, even though jaren Jackson junior was their best defensive player like it's not like they're just gonna fall out of this. And we already penciled in clippers warriors and nuggets Phoenix is a maybe on paper top four. You get in the play in real easily in the Western Conference. I will say this, when Luca is in shape and healthy, I think the Mavs have a chance to be in the mix for home court advantage in the first round. And Luca, unless he has a week and a half that is just absolutely historic between Euro basket and the start of training camp, will report in the best shape to camp since second year. Which faint praise, but obviously I just watched the guy have 36 points, ten rebounds and actually played really good, including a block on shooter that was clutch and getting Franz Wagner out of where them earlier in the game is the primary defender early. Well, from the 30 people in game and looked like a blossoming star and kind of disappeared yesterday, look at something to do that. Luca in shape policies long. That makes the matter because I think at least a team you have to take seriously as a middle of the playoff pack threat. Oh, that's the floor because you can sit here and say all they have is role players around Lucca, they need a second star. The thing about having Luca who's not just an all time great score, ball handler, but already an all time great passer is if those role players have the right skills around him, he's gonna make them look awesome and they're all gonna be really good in their roles and they do have role players who fit him and you look at their starting lineup as you alluded to before is likely gonna be Luca Dinwiddie Bullock Finney Smith locked up on a good new deal and JaVale. Off the bench, they have Hardaway junior for now. Wouldn't shock me if Tim has a really good first 30 games if they flip him and Dinwiddie just to see what staggering Dinwiddie and Luca looks like, but maybe not. They have Hardaway junior, Christian wood, who you mentioned, he'll play some four. He'll play some 5. He can roll and shoot threes, which makes him a really good fit with basically everyone he and can both do both of those things. That's an interesting pairing. So cleve off the bench brittan's floating around. I think milla kina and or Josh green is gonna get a shot to be in the rotation nella kina kind of search toward the end of the season and playoffs last year. Just to see, can we get one more defender in there? One more kind of wingy, maybe three and D, although Josh green never shoots on both those guys, both those guys got minutes last year, and then the warriors just basically said, hey, we're gonna play 5 on four defensively. You're allowed to shoot as many open threes as you want. And they had to sit them down in the west vinyls. I'll give you a rotation sleeper. Another guy who's having a really good Euro basket. Greece is Tyler Dorsey. Now, as risks on Greece, but he's playing for the national team. And he's a two way signee, but they think he has something, a shooter, a guy who put it on the floor a little bit. I think the key is probably going to be how he might hold up defensively in the NBA. But they feel like they might have found something. He was having a great tournament in your basket for Greece. He turned down three year I'm sorry, two years, $3 million deal to stay in Greece to come back on a two way left about 7 figures a year, a million year on the table. He did it because he thinks he's an NBA player. The Mavericks agree. So I'd keep an eye out for him for a team that needs one more guard and I think certainly he's open minded to it being not Frankie neither kina. Well, yeah, and you're right. Neil akina and Josh green are non shooters, generously. Josh green would just wants to dribble hand off no matter what. You could be wide open under the rim and instead of dunking he's looking for a dribble handoff under the rim, but and you can't play them with JaVale or Dwight Powell if Dwight pal was still in the rotation. You can fit one of them in when they're have a stretch 5, whether it's wood or or both. The interesting thing about the wood at power forward look or the wood cleaver look, depending on who you think is the four or 5 is, it makes you choose between it makes you only get two of Dinwiddie Bullock Finney Smith and Tim Hardaway in those lineups assuming Luca is also in it. That's three spots. So it brings up some interesting choices, but I think the Christian would fit is going to be awesome. He's in the last year of his contract, so he has immense incentive to be on time beyond point. Try hard on defense. He has, it's not even close to it's not even close to sniffing the truth of the situation to say he's never played with a ball handler at the level of Luka Dončić. It's like he hasn't even, he doesn't even know what he's in for in terms of how many easy looks he's going to get from three and at the rim and what he's able to do with those looks. He is extension eligible. I don't see that happening. I would be surprised by that. I'd be surprised by that, but you never know. This is, it's his first opportunity to prove that he can contribute to a winner in the NBA. And it's a big opportunity for him. So again, I think that the role is going to be maybe tough for him to swallow, but if he accepts that role, he's a potential 6 man of the year type of guy. He has that kind of talent. You know how I sell them on that role? You still can play 30 minutes a game. You still can probably score 20 a game and you could win 6 man of the year in a contract year. And by the way, you might end up starting in the playoffs or, you know, doing the maxi basically started. That may end up happening for you.

"I mean, you know, you could say that it's going to be hard to win at the highest levels with Carl Anthony towns defensively, but I mean, your Minnesota, what exactly is the alternative cap space you're missing? Quibble with Carl towns? Trade him? I'm the Minnesota Timberwolves. I've been in the playoffs once twice now since 2004. Carl Anthony town just 26. This supermax will take him through his age 32 season. Those are the exact years I want. The cap is going to rise once the new TV deal kicks in. It's going to keep rising. There is he a top ten player in the NBA, probably not, is he close? Maybe. Can he anchor a defense at center? It doesn't appear so we're going to talk more about that in a second. He's an unbelievable player. I'm Minnesota. I can't quibble with that. I got two really good players. I could fill out the roster run up to me. I know the warts. I know the words of Carl Anthony towns this game. I'm well versed in the wards of Carly Anthony Carl Anthony towns. There is no case against it to me. 1201 a.m. they're signing it. That's like, I think they should. Yeah, I ultimately agree with that. What did you think, though? And what do you think? Because this is a deal that didn't happen that I want to talk about. About the wolves pursuing traditional rim protecting centers to pair with Carl towns, Clint capela was mentioned, I was told that was overblown. Rudy Gobert was mentioned. I was told that was overblown, but more potentially because of how high a price Utah is looking to get in the event if they trade Rudy Gobert. I thought that was really interesting. Because I didn't expect the wolves to devote that kind of resource level to center. Even though I know that they tried to masquerade, they tried to masquerade a good defense with Carl towns in the middle by trapping everything. It sort of giving up this gimmick up this aggressive defense because they know he can't be a rim protector and ultimately there's going to be holes to plug on all ends of that defense all over the court and it won't work against the best teams. I just thought like particularly the Gobert stuff, that contract is so huge, I just kind of didn't see that coming, even though they played with the paint bound power forward in Jared Vanderbilt, who's essentially a center on offensive were quite successful. I just find it really interesting. Do you think a cat Gobert pairing would be a good idea? No. I mean, ultimately, I think that it's going to be difficult to win that way for four rounds or even multiple rounds in the playoffs because you're going to come up against a team where you're going to need to play small. And now I'm either taking Carl Anthony towns to really go bear off the court. So to me, what would have made sense? I buy the idea that, okay, let's get towns off the center. Let's bring in someone who's a better room protector. To me, that's Isaiah hartenstein. That's kevon Looney. You know, they ended up going in a different direction with their non taxpayer mid level and signing Kyle Anderson who probably is going to push towns more to center if they don't make a trade, but those are the guys that would have been looking at because it's okay if I start them and play them 20 minutes a game during the regular season and then reduce that during the playoffs or the kevon Looney was the one center who ultimately was able to stay on the court the entire postseason. So that direction made more sense to me than we're going to invest a ton of resources into these two spots. When we know that there are going to be certain match ups where town is going to be best utilized as a center in the playoffs. Bingo. I wouldn't do the Gobert one. The contract is just too prohibitive. It's too big. I can't throw him the ball on offense when teams go small against us in the playoffs. I can't throw them in the ball period other than to finish lob dunks, which is fine. He's great at that and he might be the best defense player in the league. The contract is too big. And you nailed it with the loony analogy. I look at what the Mavs just did with JaVale McGee. Three years, 20 million, and JaVale apparently told Tim McMahon, he's expecting to be the mav starting center, which is really interesting because they have Dwight pal Christian wood and Mexico all of the team. But I look at the JaVale archetype is exactly the loony archetype. That's where if I'm spending resources at center and I'm the wolves, I want a guy who will play 18 minutes a game. I still need to have my team construction be that Carl Anthony towns even in the regular season is playing 20 minutes a game minimum at center because of his shooting and versatility on offense. I would not spend those kind of resources at center. I think it's really interesting that that idea is apparently not off the board in Minnesota. Like I said before, I would have rather spent that kind of resources at point guard with a defensive minded, unselfish, Gritty, improving rising guy like to John de Murray, that's off the board now. It'll be interesting to see where they have any other Minnesota thoughts. I mean, who knows maybe eventually walker Kessler becomes that guy. Certainly my draft projections thought so. Really? Okay. How is projected? Highest projected block rate of anybody I've ever done projections for from college. I like the guys that they're looking for in free agency too, like slo-mo, they sign slow mode today. I've heard rumblings that they're kicking around the Martin twins. Those are just basketball players. Like they could go get more basketball players, more smart basketball players in the door. Be interesting to see how Tim Connolly puts his puts his mark on the team. The Gobert thing just kind of, it kind of surprised me to be honest. Are you in all concerned or flummoxed? That we have heard nothing about Zach lavine in the first, what are we almost 6 hours into free agency? You know, maybe he's an old school July 1st guy. I'm not sure what to make of that. I'm not flummoxed, but it is a little interesting by contrast to Bradley Beal, who kind of seemed to be in the same boat where everyone just expected to resign with their teams. Would you go after Rudy Gobert if you were the raptors? I mean, I think it depends how much I have to give up. I definitely forces me to change my style of play at pretty considerably. Like their whole game plan has been let's switch everything for a long period of time and not that Rudy Gobert can't switch, but certainly it doesn't maximize his value. So I probably wouldn't, I guess is the answer I'm saying there. I don't think I would either. I like what I've got going too much to put that many resources into verdugo bear. The contract is too much. Pistons, we talked about earlier. Can we please just talk about the door for a.
"dwight pal" Discussed on The Rich Eisen Show
"A better overall skill package at the wing to go with Luca where you have him and that player as wing players doing what they do, Jalen Brunson has another third option and just have the other two like Dwight pal can do as a rebounder or hardworking type of player. The scrappy player to do all the other little things to make sure that you walk away with the win because you're right, he is a top 5 player in this league. He has phenomenal with the way that he does it. He kind of slow walks you into things and draws you into draws you to sleep methodically with how he plays the game. That's what I think personally. They need another wing to go along with Luka Dončić. See, here's the problem, though, and as a Nick fan I see this, right? It's like, how do you get that player in the NBA today? You know, you gotta have some cap room, although the cap is kind of strange in the NBA team seemingly bringing all this, like Brooklyn, there's a cap of Brooklyn can bring in every town to play. It made no sense to me. But whatever, there's a cap. Let's go with that, okay? So like with the Knicks, it's like, okay, if you don't get that free agent to want to come play for you, you're not bad enough as a team to get that top, you know, two or three draft pick to get that star player potentially that alters the future of your franchise is Dallas in your mind kind of stuck. They're not a bad team, obviously they're a playoff team. They're not good enough though to win it all because it's Luke and a bunch of other guys, as you said, nice pieces, but not really a true number two. I don't know what their cap situation is. It's not as if they seem to be making runs at these big name free agents. Are they stuck in your mind in terms of how to getting that number two guy unless they fall into a tyrese match he drafted 2020 first overall, whatever that was a couple of years ago. Right. And that's the one way. As you know, drafting. But also, is there another player every year? And we'll take the example here in Philadelphia every year. There's a disgruntled player whether it's Ben Simmons or James Harden that they're going to want out. And how much is that looking at that particular player, whoever that player might become in the off season or during the season to go and acquire that player to go with them. And who wants to play with Luka Dončić? Right. We see it all the time now, where players want to tag team and team up with these other stars in the league and try to make their push that way. So I would look at it that way outside of the drafting, which is the obvious one, or just simply someone on your roster already elevating their play, is there a player out there who will ask out of their situation and then become that player that wants to tag up and team up with Luka Dončić and Bradley Beal that player once he clears everything with his injuries. And I know he's not a big wing, but he is a talented score as we know. Who is that player? I don't know, but that's the way that I look at it then that it was probably going to have to be just simply someone wanting to play with Luka Dončić. Yeah, I think there's two problems here with Luca. One is, and you mentioned it. His style of basketball, right? He's a ball dominant player, obviously. He's a guy that needs the ball in his hands, and I think that kind of led to issues with porzingis, but he's also a European player. And what I mean by that is like, no knock against European players, but, you know, there's not a, you know, he speaks English, obviously, but I'm trying to say is I think at times when you talk about, you know, guys wanting to go play with another guy, there has to be some sort of relatability. And I think, unless you're Dirk who like really embraced American culture, Dirk, you know, Dirk frankly was an American guy at the end, right guys, kind of treated him that way. Is there kind of maybe that little bit of a, not a divide, but maybe a barrier with Luka Dončić and other guys wanting to kind of join him and make a super team because of that or am I making this all up? That's a good point. That is a good point. And look, he's not the first one, right, Dan from the European players where we have seen this before. So that is a good point. I just wonder if, of course, with his natural growth year, what year three in the league, you're in the league at this point and seeing that, okay, I feel like I can do it by myself but at some point I can not do this alone. And hoping that he can communicate with someone else, whether it's doing the All-Star Game. A lot of stuff we've seen at Kyrie Irving Kevin Durant or whoever it may be with James Harden, Carmelo Anthony Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh in the past, where you have these USA teams, the way they can play with one another. They can talk about these things and they can kind of game playing for the future. His problem, of course, is that he doesn't play for Team USA. He plays for his national team and maybe that player is not on that squat, where is he going to have those conversations elected to simply exchanging numbers, tech exchange, phone conversations, maybe meeting up face to face in the state and going through that in the off season. So it's a good point by you and I'm curious. I really am curious to see what they do because with him he is that good where they are a second round team. Right now they just run it into a juggernaut and being sons and I don't think that they can beat them. So that's just what it is, but they have to address it at some point, if not this off season, the following off season as well, based on where they go, how far they go. Last question, Devon, do you like the strategy from Jason Kidd kind of literally calling out other guys saying Luca can't do it by himself, we need other guys to do it. In essence, he is calling out players on his own team to step it up. Are you a fan of that? You know, a lot of times you hear people say to a coach or a player, you don't kind of put other guys in a situation where you're putting it all on them. Is that a good strategy? Or is it a head scratcher? Coming from Philadelphia with Doc Rivers, I'll take that strategy. Right. Because I don't like how Doc approaches a lot of things. And I give him credit for when credit is due, but I also criticize him for the things that he does like Vincent and saga and talking down to everybody here as if we don't know basketball. We may not know it on his level, but we know a little bit. And with Jason Kidd, you see the same, you see exactly what he's talking about, right? Right. So at least he's telling you the truth of what is happening and he can not do it by himself. You saw during the season Jalen Brunson, especially in round one. I wouldn't get down before Luca got back. He can not do a bunch of stuff, so I don't mind it, especially if he says it to his team in the locker room privately and they understand that if it comes out publicly, hey, Alicia already said that to us and by the way, we know that too. I don't mind it. I like it. You're right. Give it to us straight, man. Don't give us the back talk. Don't want to decide. We may not be NBA players, but we know hoops. I know for sure you know oops. You don't need a coach talking down saying you guys don't know it. And I think you're right. Give it to me straight. Jason, get his giving it to straight. To his team straight. Guys, step up. Luca can't do this by himself. He needs some help..

"They've got a lot of support pieces. They need a defensive anchor. Washington, but they just got porzingis, so I don't know how much they view that as a long-term answer. Portland has so many balls in the air, including the possibility of just resigning use of nurkic that that one feels dicey to me, but it's possible given that they're kind of piling up assets and flexibility. Toronto is one I've heard. Has got a lot of pieces and it would be very easy for people to say, well, Rudy doesn't fit this sort of frenetic switching, help and recover, fly around, box in one, triangle in two trapezoid and 7 defense that Nick nurse likes to play. I think that undersells the adapted ability of Nick nurse and the dominance in the paint of Rudy Gobert. If you gave Nick nurse Rudy Gobert and subtracted peace X and Y off his current team and were like build a defense, Nick nurse would be like, all right, let's get to the lab and do it. Also really has a lot better switch defender than people give him credit for. The reason that jazz don't switch is because the other guys can't. Fair enough. So that's it, and I don't really know the interest level you're missing. You're missing one. Give it to him and miss him one. Right here in my home turf. Still, the mighty mavericks. Wow. Look, who look really, really good right now. Listen, Rudy's love language. Is awards? And lobs. Lobs, lobs, lobs, Charlotte, lamella. That would be a hell of a fit. Atlanta, Trae Young. Although to the timetable thing with Charlotte, you run into are we putting too many eggs in the lamelo's 21 basketball I'm just talking about in terms of pick and roll lob threat. Trae Young and Rudy, that'd be interesting. Two guys who always get along well with teammates. But it would be a basketball fit. Dallas with Luca, are you kidding me? The Gobert Luca pick and roll, plug Gobert into what the Mavericks have been able to put together, defensively this year. Listen, Luca pick and roll with Dwight pals awfully effective. I like to wipe out. Super, super effective. Do I pals a better passer than Rudy Gobert? Do I palace passing? This season and in particular the last two months out of that short role has been dynamite. I'm pretty sure Rudy would be an upgrade as far as a pick and roll finisher. And listen, I'm just going to tell you, I know I've heard from externally and internally that the Mavericks would have significant interest and I know Rudy well enough to know that he would love to play with Luca. You know, I mean, I remember when Luke was drafted, Rudy tweeted then, this guy is going to be phenomenal. Also, you know, there's little things like Rudy's agent, Boonen, I live in suburban Dallas. Actually, Boone wanted Rudy with the Mavericks going into the draft and Rudy's first draft workout was in Dallas and was against Steven Adams and remember this was Rudy raw coming out of guessing this was I'm guessing this was unpleasant for it was it was not a workout that made the Mavericks interest in drafted Rudy Gobert. Now, different deal, but no, I think the Mavericks would be as aggressive as any team to go get now. The question is, what kind of deal could they put together? How many picks are they willing to put in there? I can get you some expiring in that deal. What's the rest of the thing look like? Can you take bartons as that salary to make it to fill it in Hardaway? I don't want to give up Bullock. I don't want to give up Dinwiddie. I don't know. But I do know that the Mavericks would be very aggressive if Gobert is on the market this summer. Very interesting stuff. Let's leave it there and let the playoffs play out because the jazz look, the shovels are out, the hole is dug, but they're not dead yet. They got a lot of pride. They have a legit postseason super duper star in Donovan Mitchell, but so let's table it for now and see how they do. And Tim McMahon, you will be there for every step of it. Thank you for your time. You're on the hoop collective you're on the woj pod this week or everywhere, Tim McMahon. Thank you for making a little time for us..

"Who's going to be that fixture in terms of the fourth and fifth guy on the court is going to be as a metric before just a game by game situation in terms of which player is going to be playing the best. Now we have to throw into the mix someone like can base more of a leak monk who provide them all offense I don't think offer reeves once. Everybody is fully healthy. Is going to be getting that opportunity. But it's almost a game committing in terms of which two players are playing. The best will determine whether those guys will be playing the crunch time minutes with lebron russ in ad regardless of how those guys are plays to. It could be austin reads. It could be one of those guys moving forward. How well they're gonna be for the lakers as they improve or they looked to improve this season so everything else so far go Utah for no golden state. Losing their first game the memphis the other night therefore one steph curry looking. Great as i mentioned before. There's no team i enjoy watching more than the golden state warriors and steph curry and the way that to him and draymond green operate on the court together. Loving absolutely love. It just beautiful basketball. Two guys with excellent on-court chemistry and You know i. I don't know how long this is going to last in terms of the success when you speak about the warriors again people are speaking about. Well they haven't even got klay thompson back okay. Well what does that mean. I mean what kind of klay thompson are. We getting back now. Much of an impact. Is he gonna make in. How quickly of impact is gonna make. And what type of player is he gonna be. One he comes back we might off the bat if he comes back. Say around the christmas season if he comes back around the twenty fifth of december. He's not gonna jump back to the klay thompson that we all know and love impossible after missing season than having the type of injuries that he has them. There might be some semblance of that later on in the season. But you know once you get into the western conference nitty gritty to the playoff picture. I mean how much cam the warriors depend and rely on steph curry. And what type of steph curry are we going to be getting. So that's my situation. That's my thoughts. About the golden state warriors. John mirant Making an early bid for a player of impacts. He was awesome in a loss on sunday against the lakers. Hit some unbelievable shots. No one on the lakers could could guard. That guy then comes back and put on a excellent performance. Outdueling steph curry in memphis victory over golden state mentioned before giving golden state their first loss of the season timber wolves three and one anthony edwards shooting more threes than usual. Karl anthony towns starting off. Strong the dallas mavericks. What their new player committee. Which consists of luca Tim hardaway junior and kristoff porzingas. Let's be for real here. "I think it makes sense for everyone to like pause Canadian they could use another center option go on drag itch I think would be much happier in Dallas. Let's say playing next to Luca Dončić that deal just makes a lot of sense for everyone involved whether or not either team decides to go that road we will see but yeah that's kind of where I sit on this. That's the wide open easy just deal that continues to pop up for me in my brain. Yeah and you know if I'm the raptors I think I'd probably rather have that deal done in trading camp when it's allowed. But also like they then they have Dwight pal and Ken birch and precious and Moses Brown and I don't know. You don't overthink it like get the guys you want or whatever. I could see them asking for a little bit more back just 'cause Dwight Powell's owed money next year too but that's the general framework. I think is what we're getting at here like Dwight Powell plus four Goran dragic still is the likeliest thing to happen I think. Yeah I agree. Blake tell the people where they can find your work tell the people what's going on. Yeah they can find my work at the athletic on the raptor side lots of summer league stuff if you are interested in that kind of thing. I have a couple features pocketed from my summer league work that'll be out over the next couple of weeks. I think a fun look at some of the some of the newer raptors. That's about it. I've ever been done golf here. Not too long in a couple of weeks. So i'll report back with my golf doing skills. Who hit the links with a larry. Luke yup a dent aggression No close close. We gotta larry. We gotta woody woody and we got a great. Oh oh yeah ice a road trip to go do some golf and listen some dead incredibly. Let's get to some deals. We have this weekend task. Lump these together. You can go wherever you want with these as we address them but celtics involved in both of them. Okay the the first one. I guess you can call it. That was a little minor trade. Celtics getting josh. Richardson in exchange for moses brown. He's going back to his mas- everybody knows that. No dunks the biggest moses. Okay see fans knew that okay. So that's one and then we had a three way deal. Oh yeah celtics. Get chris done bruno fernando and a future second round. Pick the hawks get dhillon right. Cook and the kings get tristan thompson so have out tasks what. What did you think of these. These moves islands. You want to start with the celtics. Getting i guess the best player of the bunch here and being involved in balsam. Yeah definitely the best player in josh richardson. Near remember the hype when he was with the miami heat a couple years back people extremely high on dross. Richardson than he was. Vaughn the sign trade to go to philly. Then he went to dallas. He just hasn't found his way with either of those two teams so boston. Sure seems like evan. Foreign will be on the outs with boston and josh. Richardson will fill in in a guard. Spot there so best of luck to him although from the mavs perspective. It's about money. You just try to to free as much as possible for kyle lowry bunch of other guys. That are going to try and go get now. I get that. I get that but Yeah i'm just excited about moses brown. I definitely With the dallas mavericks. I always wanna to see a seven to plus man in the league. You know you wanna see many large guys as possible. He had some big big numbers had be for with the. Okay see this year then. He got traded to boston. As part of that kemba walker deal. Dallas is always looking for biggs to. I don't think that they're just just just doing the strictly for the money. I think they are excited. About the possibility of moses brown. I mean since they let tyson chandler going. They won their championship. They keep swinging For big is a lot of dwight's dwight howard dwight powell. They got from from boston. Mark cuban said we gotta stretch five here along with rajon rondo. Dwight pal stretch. Five is still there trying to find his way by thick. Bows brown's skinny. Get a chance. And he should and he's fun to watch and hopefully you can move those feet enough to stick around the league because the question always is what's giant men in this day in age. Kenny garden space. He's only twenty one but he is. He's big he's real big and i just love watching them roam like you. They try it. You always try and pick on the large guys. They already have a bogue on In dallas so It's an interesting. But i i hope they trying they give him a shot and i hope he can succeed there. 'cause it's always fun to watch luca to moses Luke always parts the seasonal. Throw it up to moses moses. Just throw that baby down so looking forward to watching that. Some people may have been confused. How this trade even happened. That josh richardson for for for moses brown lake. How do the numbers were. But it's because boston had roughly eleven million dollars left on the trade exception generated when it delta gordon hayward to charlotte last season but richardson's eleven point. Six million salary for next season obviously wouldn't have fit into that exception however as the league year has not yet flipped. Boston traded for him at his ten point. Eight million salary from twenty twenty one and therefore slips in there. so that's how that one worked. You're right tasked with the master just trying to create as much cap spaces possible and richardson also played extremely poorly disappointing high on him. I like that move from dallas coming in there and he was he was horrible he very mad and he was already bad for philadelphia as yeah. I actually think. The hawks got the best player in this trade. I got the long. Right is the best guy. I like what. They did kind of streamlining their their bench because bruno. Fernando didn't play a ton for them Chris done barely even played at all this season. It looks like they're going to probably have to replace lou williams And that's nice to get dhillon right. Who could do little offensively. And defensively pretty weird. Though that moses brown is going to be the third tallest guy on his team was the last time that he had two guys taller than him on a basketball team because kristaps is listed at seven three ball bonds at seven four. So i guess most proud is going to have to play the three for dallas and thought of what do you make of. These deals here These two minor deals. That were sort of Together yeah i think Chris don was brought in for that defensive presence for that whole expand on. I think he actually ended up buying at all for atlanta lock season. He made some place. That's better dylan. Reid is one of those plays like he always seems to be good but he keeps getting moved around. I thought he was good in toronto. I thought is good in memphis and It was in sacramento. Las vegas so i think this for the hawks. Great the lawn right. He certainly slots in And you know. He's not going to be as good as score as lou williams but i think overall he can probably be there little bit longer a little bit more stable and i think this is a nice little pickup for the hope so yet i made custom nothing really to get him in Lonrho has proven to be a pretty reliable backup through Is time nba good for some people confused with the kids requiring tristan thompson here tasks. Are you one of them. Like why tristan thompson really. What's it what's what's their thinking here. Probably get rid of them afterwards. I guess i. I don't see him an Future a future king unless they try and influence the youngsters with tristan thompson veteran ship. I guess one or the other thompson gonna be king for long. Maybe a whole season Is that a long time..

"Probably because offense is fine. You know it's been a little disappointing in this series but you know he was never going to be this like unbelievable post up guy in the playoffs. You just would not strong enough for that. But it's the defense that's just a that was supposed to be the formula and he was also supposed to be this great threat. Who could either roll or pop out and going. The clippers are really tough match-up for him. But hey there's a lot of elliott clippers out there in the playoffs when you're trying to win a championship. So i this this season unless they know that he is just not healthy in the slightest. It's starting to gates me that that is a failed bet. But as danny alluded to where you're going to send him an what. Are you going to get back at this point in time. I'm not really sure of what that is but maybe you just do you think they need to an exit baiter bring you into if if you're still there but like is it just a matter of. Hey this guy we gotta just get off in just to improve the structure of our teams. We can be more versatile overall even if we're not getting back quote unquote talent in return. Maybe if there's a team that is lower step of the rebuild like made the kings or charlotte. Maybe they're interesting in getting of the sky and yet that's an interesting thought. It just a like a team. That's kinda trying to get into. The playoffs rightly porzingas. The way he is now he's kind of a assuming healthy obviously but he's kind of a get you into the playoffs kinda guy But i guess the question there is what are you gonna get back is just. You're moving him into cap space. You're just removing that obligation and that's it day. Would you consider it being even subbing that low of a return. I don't think i would just because porzingas does help the mavericks. And maybe they could use a trade exception. But i'm always. I'm always skeptical of big trade exceptions really producing somebody who can move the needle for you long term. It's tough and the other kind of idea that you could think about is a team that is okay with porzingas lack of defensive or stadium in in a different world the san antonio spurs could possibly be a team like that where it's like okay. Yeah he can't do all these other. Things were portland to some extent where it's like. He can't do these other things but we don't care because we're not going to do those other things anyway. But the problem is ner pitches pretty settled in portland. I think that. I don't know who that is better than kristaps porzingis. He's been he's definitely been better in these playoffs. Do any idea what nicole. Yoga should be doing kristaps porzingis guarding and one on one. Yeah it will be an yoga. You don't necessarily want a great everybody by how they would defend nickel because he is. he's an almost. But yeah. i mean and san antonio pergola is i would say portal's not as good as porzingus but he's a lot cheaper and he makes sense with them and the sin tonio like just like do they want to throw a lot of their resources at that may be like for them. It's the opportunity causes a little bit different. Because they're not at that level right now and for charlotte. I like that. Pedro brought up. Charlotte is an option just because they need something. It's entering pausing his talented. But i would i intuitively. I'd rather have somebody who can run the floor. But i guess you could have the other guys run the four next lamelo be. You probably need mobility at the one through the fourth one. yeah through. Great question there Pedro and hopefully zuma's can be healthy. But i mean obviously that's that's another aspect of just whether he's going to be on the floor for you or not. Oh that's an interesting. One from xavier santos asking about average discussion throughout could dallas. If josh richardson option package In white pal in a couple of seconds for al horford so the idea there for oklahoma city would basically be you. Get out of but see the problem for them is you. Don't actually get out of that much. Guaranteed money because dwight powell is owed eleven million for twenty two twenty. Three and al horford is fourteen five granted. You'd have dwight pal under contract and you'd be cutting al horford for that money. Is the problem there. Though is just the douse would have to include something there. Obviously as well in there and and they're not they're not particularly asset rich but and they could theoretically move josh richardson to a third team at some point to get value. Something oklahoma city has done a lot recently. But it's an interesting idea. I think that there would probably be a conversation between prestia nelson on that front. But i don't think it would come to fruition. I think they've. I think casey would be would be looking for more. Let's get to jonathan jonathan. You're on the air. Jonathan you're muted on this I just want to say over the last year. It's been fantastic prompt subscriber. It's been uptick in having you guys on a regular basis to anonymously. Maybe talk to you but wasn't to ear stuff has really helped. Keep me saying and it's been really enjoyable of ride. So i just want to thank. You guys are pumping out as much content as you will thank you. That means a lot. It's really. It's good to hear that we were doing a basketball show. But it's good good here. We can have at least a little positive effect on people's lives. So thanks for telling us that and i'll chip in that. I can only speak for myself. But i think nate would agree with this. That for me once basketball started again. It gave me something to grind on something to focus on. That wasn't everything else. And i thought it would. It made. It made my life a lot better too. And i thought and you know it was especially those early bubble days. Were incredibly hectic. Were their games all day. You're just like i was kind of exhausted for two weeks. But i was happier with that form of exhaustion rather than everything else that we've been dealing with to that point. Yeah and it's just really hard to talk articulately about a single team or a single topic for an extended period of time to do it for a whole league. It's it's a lot harder than people think as someone who has tried and failed multiple times Doing that on a even semi professional level. So that's also a impressive to say the least. Well thanks. so what can we do for you as far as the question. So after that. Long setup i wanted to talk about a little bit of a i m e long-suffering detroit pistons fan by came into the team. Unfortunately i the brandon knight years as listening on the radio. I think i don't know maybe two thousand seven. When a state radio station. I came to town. They didn't discover later on. But anyways josh smith was the highlight of my tenure so far in maybe blake griffin for a half season right now. It's looking very interesting. That they finally picked a direction with the rebuild. They've got jeremy grant. Jeremy grant was interesting that you said that adding you know a black head coach adding a now black. Gm was a huge part of him. Coming to detroit. Are there any other players you think that would be motivated to seek out an organization bike them in terms of maybe not necessarily detroit. But it's a unique free agent thing. We're not necessary. It was just you know trying to win now but it was a fit on kind of a philosophical level and a role level. I think that the personality fit between a player and their coach general manager or both is important..
