"Things. You would think that the government was aware of what he was doing, considering he's using their space center. Yeah, because I watch I watch NASA did a big old interview with him right there from that legendary mission control building with all the glass. I mean, you know what? Here's what's interesting. Is expensive as it is for him to do this. He's still doing it way cheaper than the federal government. What would do it one of the things because he has these reusable space ships, except when they blow up on whether trying to land while you have the kind of guy that's probably using issue but one of the things because he has he's reasonable spaceships. It's saving. 40% on the production costs of spaceships just right there. So he is saving Americans a lot of money. If we're gonna continue this investment in, you know, with space and everything Well, after watching the diet, this several documentaries surrounding the Apollo and getting it and understood that this happens when you get a new program like that, you do something you've never done. The cost to the U. S government during the Apollo missions was crazy. Ridiculous. I mean the amount of money we just hemorrhaged into that thing, But it was worth it was worth it. I'm not saying that but to your point, Yeah, This is why I love capitalism and private industry. What's also interesting if you watch it, and I know it's a Yeah, it's Disney Channel and everything else. But if you watch the show that they have their the first astronauts, the right stuff, Uh I mean, they were just these guys, right? You're going to Disney Plus D. C plus channel. It probably sounds cartoonish. OK? Disney, Plus? Yeah, so anyway, the right step. Thank you. Really? You're just so helpful, All right, but But, you know, apparently, I mean, these guys, you know, we're all renegades back in the day. So all the protocols that They didn't have we now have And so it makes things go slower and the even more minutia, etcetera, etcetera it now it's a good thing because you know there's crashes and everything else these guys some of these guys had. You're not going to keep you on must down dude. I mean, he's got. He's got a creative drive that I envy so much that he just he goes for broke. And and I totally respect him in a lot of ways. Look, if you're going to take a look at Elon Musk You're gonna have to go Look at Richard Branson because that guy's launching rockets off the bottom of a 7 40 0. My God, did you see now because it was much thought about that he was going to be He was going broke. He was losing money. And now the new reports throughout that he's like this influx of cash. He's doing extremely well right now. Yeah. What did you I've felt the same way. You just gotta you not read the same articles because I'm like when this guy going broke three weeks ago, Right? Right. And what's interesting if you go back and watch What's that show undercover boss. Get in the game. Shock ist well, you you go back and watch undercover boss and watch Richard Branson watch the way he operates it Z just extremely Was an undercover boss had to go back. There was a documentary I saw in Branson and I just remember just being because these people like like Ellen must just really piqued my interest and I just want to get inside their heads. And you look at Branson and through his ups and downs and the struggles he's endured. Overcome that. It's no doubt that he's back in the cash and back in the money because that's who Branson is. I just love those people. I think they're great. I mean, they are the you know the great viewers of the future of today. They're kind of like You know the name? You know any of you in the end of the people like Uh, Microsoft the Bill gates. You know what he what he could see, you know what I mean? You know, even even Jeff Bezos and man if you're making if you're making a ton of money hand over fist because of something you created something you had a vision for you are a okay in my book, and chances are I'm probably gonna delve into a little bit about what you're doing. "Wait. 40 w wait. J s had a really tough week last week and into the weekend with violence in our city. Haven't have Dwight Mitchell l A P D spokesperson joining us And why do we have some good leads on some of these, But I don't believe one man unforced to just killed his parents. But do we have some other good leads on some of those crime that we saw? For the weekend. Well, first of all. Good morning, Tony. Good morning. Sorry about that. Got the Russians with the gloom and doom. When you talk to me, brothers, I gotta get a little bit of joy. And I appreciate that Detectives are working, diligent in the cases that we do have you know one of the things Tony that that I want to employment, and I will say over and over again. We have about 700,000 pairs of eyes here in the local metropolitan area, and everybody seems something Sometimes you just never know better will suffer. You might have might help us and you can certainly always use our anonymous tip line to help us with that. Yes, I am important media. I'm not shying away from that help us because it's helping us. Take Duke by getting that information getting these individuals that are responsible for these crimes and let them obviously get the justice that they need to get in terms of punishment if it deems that in those type of situations. One of the things that we have in a large problem with though, and we have for sometimes is the theft of vehicles and From vehicles and particularly in the East end of global as well lot of cars of stolen and are either islands and cars are stolen and the user they're just crimes of opportunity. What people have left the doors unlocked because very few of them was where we have glass breakage or anything like that. In those, it's just the fact that people leave those just forget it. Some people just not aware they're doing these things and they haven't the car stolen and items stolen Problemas well, sometimes going sometimes computers and all these other things, sometimes Kees other vehicles from the home that they have in the vehicle that we run a lot. So it's called Ah big loss for some of our citizens and obviously the crimes of opportunity for people looking to do that. So we just asking people just kind of a public service announcement. Task are Good people here blew over the lock your doors under people looking to do those things on to take from you. So every little step you take extra protect yourself. Does that And it's policing in your way as well. Yeah, indeed. I mean, it's a great reminder and make sure you probably need to take in your, um if you have Ah, loose garage door opener. Maybe take that back inside with you. And if you've had your car set up, you know where you could do that automatically new car you might want. Oh, that's a great feature, but not always. It's some cases. You know, Technology's not always great, but certainly we need to use the one technology having that's our brains and our hands that we have for free, so that and I think it would help us along the way. I gotta move longer, but it just pick your brain about that. We've got the Mazzoli Federal building genes. Tighter federal building downtown. There is talk that there could be armed protesters at these buildings. Where's Ellen PD on the situation. Obviously l A P D is always standing ready and prepared to handle any life skill, Um, crowds that we may have in any location in Louisville. At this point. We're not aware of any that are playing havoc. We know these things can pop up in. Certainly the men and women who protect our city on a daily basis will be ready. Appreciate your time is always thank you have a great weekend. Look for tell you do two seconds. All right, Do I thank you. God bless you. All right, Mitchell here with Ellen PD on Kentucky has won this get your break. Scotty, have sports coming up. We got a big.

"On your car that lowers your rates. My wife doesn't care because it lowers that significantly lowers the premium right? Well, Iet's it's like what they do with smokers. They could tell you, you could keep smoking, but you'll pay this race or you could stop and pay this rate. It's your choice. You've got seven days figure it out. The reason I'm bringing this out or up is because a lot of people during this time of year for reasons of gifting, we'll get a Fitbit like last year. That's what I got. I gotta fit bed and then You get you got apple watches. Well, you know, Amazon has this, um, $65 Halo band that you have to right now be invited to do this. Whatever that means. Oh, it's a beta test them here in The Washington Post did a little research on it and a couple of the Washington Post reporters And they say that this heart health tracking bracelet has a microphone and after tells you everything that's wrong with you. In fact, it could tell you how much your body has too much fat. It shows a three d rendering of your near naked body. You have to use a photo of yourself in your skivvies to do that, so I could do that. When you look at that you are. I could do that every day without the shower. Watch to tell me that I just got to share it with 50. My told Get some fat. Well, here's what? I just saved a bunch of money. Where would be the perfect candidate for this? Because it even, uh, measures your tone of voice. If you're being overbearing or irritated Also now I'm going to device that's judgmental to me, because I don't have enough of that model Tacular. So now, So now Amazon's going to sell me something that's telling me I'm a judgmental fat terrific, judgmental anyway, you know, because I don't have enough people emailing me at the station telling me you're wrong. You're wrong. You're wrong. Or your wife. I need a device to tell me that no one like didn't even bother anymore. She just did. Tonto were beyond that stage in our lives. Anyway, it's the halo pushes into uncharted territory by also collecting new, unabashedly invasive kind of personal information, including body photos and voice recordings that in feeding it into Amazon software for analysis, So just just so you know what's interesting about this. The Washington Post is owned by WHO? Amazon's Jeff basis, and so they're doing a critique of the duty. Who owns the newspaper, a zwelling here, so it's kind of what I mean. Made journalistic perspective. It's nice to see that they don't have a ownership censoring issue where they can write something about Critiquing one way or another about the product owned by management. I hope it had a disclaimer on there. That the Washington Post is a is a subsidiary of Jeff Bezos and everything else he owns in the world. Yeah. So a lot of people like do you have Alexa? I have Alexis. My kids, You might well my daughter uses the Google. It drives me crazy because you know, I say the Google because it's like a Google pod that sits on it. And it drives me crazy because my daughter is sit there and go. Hey, Google, how many cups were in a body out of this? And I said I'm still not on I come from the old school. Look it up. Because I like to exercise my brain and I think your brain is like a muscle and the more you use it now, maybe you use it in that sense because Google's giving you information but everything in like she'll get ready. Take dog for a walk. Go. Hey, Google. What's temperature outside? Just look it up in your phone. Just go outside. Okay, That's exactly right. That's what we did in the eighties and for most of the nineties, if we went outside and it was raining, we didn't have AH, after Look at the radar. We just want her right now. Don't get me wrong. Look, I love technology. I really do because I can sit there and I could watch Bellman's game and then watch the Michigan hockey game at the same time on my phone. I love that don't get me wrong, But there's something's wrong. Just kind of like there's a little bit of common sense applies here. Well, The other thing is you have a gift like bad and is telling you, you know you've got a bad attitude or, you know you're you're talking very currently to your Children or something of that nature, And it's almost like particularly this pandemic. Probably not a healthy thing for a lot of people. Be well, You know what? I'm gonna end it because it's gonna end up giving you recommendations on Amazon for purchases based on your mood and wait on now. I'm gonna I'm gonna log in the Amazon. You know, this product is recommended to you because you're angry, infinite. You never tried. Kale juice. Really? Did you ever watch the gapping? And did I set out on Kale? Yes, He's right there with you. And now they're now the new thing on social media is to make fun of people who like air friars. It's a zoo, just saying there's nothing wrong with their Friar Day feeling a little targeted here. I think he is. Don't Scotty. Whatever you do, don't get the halo right. You'll feel very judged right. It's a 20 away from seven news radio 8 40 WHS next hour. I'll be talking to Dwight Mitchell from the Little Metro Police.

"16 Dwight Mitchell joins us from the local Metro Police department. Dwight Good morning to you hope things well. All things will. Tony is a good day, and I'm living to see it. So it's It's a good day. I'm glad that that you're I wanted to ask you a question before we get into some pretty important information regarding holiday shopping right now, and that is last night, the Metro Council voted to approve The civilian review board ordinates for Ellen PD. Anything of thoughts right off the top here that you have about this Well, obviously, you know, there have been more forceful response reformed sweeping the country, and certainly we're not immune to that cheap. Gentry has stated kind of that Pappas is she was on board of any oversight that would help our department do that. That's what we are today. A zoo Greathouse Kellenberger, once you say well, Collision course with the greatness and no move variables time So we'll sing in time had on works and we hope that it works for us and hope it works for the century above Louisville. Is there any concern from what I read that there is not any kind of policing participation? Anyone from Ella either l a p d or any other departments. That people with experience in policing here? That's kind of the red flag that I kind of saw there, do you? Do you have any thoughts about that? Well, there's always concerned when you don't have somebody appears the people who actually know the work that you do. But at this day since it has passed, hopefully that was a look at it evaluated. It's working fine. If not, then we'll make those adjustments along the line. I would hope that wouldn't be. But right now, that's what we are today, and that's what we live with The Here's what I'm proud of. I know that the men and women a little neck of please, I want to be as transparent as possible. This is another step in that way. Uh, this is my men women right here and serve the community every day and do a fine job. So it really doesn't matter who's really judge them because they're doing the right thing overall, and, uh and I believe most of this Henry believes that it's well. Appreciate your talking to us today. Let's talk a little bit about some things You want people to know. With holiday shopping. People are still permitted in are going to be going to a different shops. What do you want? Folks knows that gets set for this. You know these events coming up? Welcome. Here is a safe for many years of being a spokesperson of l A, P D. And the last 20 years, the fact that, uh, you know a lot of times during the holiday shopping season. These crimes of opportunity for, uh Individual some individuals in our cities and take this opportunity to do bad things and a lot of times. It's attacking shoppers and everything like that in the parking lots of many about malls and strip malls that we have throughout our city. What I'm asking a citizens to do is just be vigilant is I know most of you are all the time. This make sure you check us around in the good thing about a lot of retailers. They've already started a lot back Black Friday sales. So some of the traffic maybe then and obviously, with the pandemic that would be the case of the bigger thing is, I know a lot of people. Things delivered to their homes. And you know, obviously, packages could be stolen off your port wherever they are in your property. So You know you can't have him delivered to an address where you know someone's gonna be home are in the security place. I believe of most of the, um Areas. Ah, woman to put it in a secure place. If you tell him where that is, Victor packed. This might not be stolen. But again, you know, we have 700 over 700,000 pairs of eyes in the city. And if you see something are here, something that's wrong. Certainly give us a call during this time, but working pairs go shopping with and I call it the buddy system and don't leave packages and playing view those things that are obviously gonna be attracted again. These are crimes of opportunity in most cases and lock your door. Was just do all the things that I did to try to do on a daily basis. Just don't forget about him because it's the holidays Name into that. Thank you, Dwight. Having wonderful Thanksgiving appreciate your time. Thanksgiving next week here and the course do I won't be able to be with us next week?.

"And guys that knew about painting cars and low riders and Hark the rider and there was a good low rider culture from my background and I drew that into the thing and so people I know and I know the city really well San Francisco. I've lived there And it's it's great to sort of rediscover it as a writer and walked on its streets See The people go to cafes? Listen to the music and put that into a book. Yeah Yeah in a recent blog post you. You hit that writing might be even in your jeans because you've got writers in your immediate family going back to grandfather haven't you and you told a tale online about your mother reporting on a meeting with Raymond. Chanda one of the great names of my fiction so I wonder if you could tell us about that. Colorful background well. My mother's father. My grandfather who are named after his name was Dwight Mitchell Wiley and he was a short story writer back in the thirties and forties. He wrote for the Saturday evening. Post and McCall's and periodical is like that his stories has genre was light romantic. Humorous pieces And he was good at it. I mean they're just great stories for the time One day the call from Hollywood came in and he was hired to write a screenplay and he became part of the paramount scribes among them. Also was Raymond Chandler the great detective writer Philip Marlowe Creator and they would hang around and together and by another tells the story of them in their bungalow waking up in the morning and there was Raymond Chandler sleep on the couch still wearing white gloves. He he he likes to wear when he played poker in drink. Gin and it was just fabulous story and that always stuck with me about this romantic idea of the writers living in in Hollywood and writing screenplays in writing for magazines or writing novels no doubt it had an influence on me and whether I inherited the talent for my grandfather or not I don't know but It makes for good memories. That's for sure she'll hit you any ambitions yourself Scrape blades of swift sometime. I'm pretty comfortable writing novels. I'm very comfortable writing. Short Stories and magazine Pieces I've never written a screenplay I wouldn't say no to it but I've got my hands full right now working with Nick Drake and his group up in Harney County and That's pretty busy obtaining to your white career if they won that you've done this more than in the other that same was the secret of your success is probably people listening. Who had gone admissions to write? What would you advise them to? This was a hard lesson for me. to learn Benchley did learn it. I think it came a little late my life but is to get out of your own way. It's too easy to tell yourself that you shouldn't do it. You can't do it. Don't do it if you've got the drive to right. You just have to write and you have to trust yourself. You have to believe in yourself and do it. Get Out of your own way to do it. The other thing is you can't write alone. There's always this image of the writer in the Garrett all by themselves writing away while part of that's true you do have to churn out the words you do have to create it. You're a better writer if you involve other people in a. I'm very fortunate to have found other writers and other readers who wanted to be part of what I call my. Rt. My advanced reader copy team. And when I finished a manuscript I send it to them. Call Them Beta readers. Whatever you WANNA call them and they read it and they get back to me with comments feedback It's terrifically helpful. I couldn't do it without them. The point of things. Where the you know in factually inaccurate or the story bogged or of course there are also encouraging which we all love to hear. And that's very important too so I think just just do it. Just get out of your own way right if you love to right right every day to doesn't matter what you're writing just right and get it on paper get it on. Your computer screen dictated however works best do it as fantastic turning to dwight as raider because this is called the joys of binge reading and it's predicated on exactly the sort of readers you have the ones who are fairly veracious liked to read series that want to hear about an export. You have been traded. Why you've been reading yourself. And who do you bench raid? Who would you recommend to others as good people to look at? It's funny because when I'm writing what I'm writing now in writing crime fiction. I don't read the stuff that I'm writing about or I love to read that I always used to read now. I'm reading one of writing fiction or writing crime fiction I read nonfiction hurried histories and I read literature. I don't read other crime rollers and I guess that's part of it because I want to hear my own voice. I wanted to hear it in my head but back in the day. Yeah I love to read the same writer and other works at want. You know one after another like what people are doing now on a Netflix series. Or something like that because I think there was a link from each book they did. You know whether it was a Robert B Parker whether it was a Raymond Chandler or Carl Hiaasen or Dashiell Hammett I can remember as a young person. my mother was a voracious reader for father was a writer and she really turned me on to crime fiction. I remember the time she gave me. You know the first John D. McDonald book. I ever read on Travis McGee series you know on. I had to read them all. I mean I just sat there at the detriment of my. You know education no doubt because I'd read all night long and I just read one after another couldn't get enough of them and so I love to binge read like that And I still do it. I mean it's But Not WanNa writing so right now. I'm reading the over story reading the over story an alibi. Richard cars big great sweeping in a book won. The Pulitzer was a new runner. Up on the man booker and something that takes me a little bit away from what? I'm doing. Sure sure circling back a look alike with your writing career. Is there one? And you've John More than any other that say as the secret to your success. I think discovering a good character in fiction once you find one and once they're speaking to you and once you're speaking to them. I know that may sound a little crazy. That's the secret you have to find that person. There's a little bit of you in them. There's a little bit of other people you know in them but you become very comfortable with them and you nurture them along As they grow as the stories developed. And you're true to them. That's not to say that you can't change some of the stuff they do or have them make mistakes because they have to be real. They have to be believable. People have to have to trust them and for readers to trust a character. The writer has to trust them. I believe in them and take them places that carry the readers along with them in their development as they pursue the story whether it's a crime story where you're trying to solve a mystery or a story about self discovery a story about discovery of another culture and other people a land The readers right there with you there with you because you're there with the character that you're created show etiquette with next to that A lot of young man coming back from Afghanistan and other wars now who would be experienced a very similar things to what you character nick experiences so although at station the six days at still utterly relevant today isn't it it really is. I mean you see it in the sheer volume that the most horrific thing that's happening right now is the high suicide rate among Men and women in service especially men and women who've served in combat situation it's horrifying what's happening here happily figure out the cause of this. And what can we do to help people in Vietnam that was certainly true? The Vietnam vets had a really rough transition Right now A friend of mine is doing work in prisons in California He's creating a book a told by long-serving Vietnam veteran prisoners as a guide to incoming prisoners. Inmates were coming into prison. How to survive in prison and their audience is people that have served in Iraq Afghanistan. They've suffered from PTSD They got involved in drugs. They got involved in crime. They've been sent to California prisons. This distant California. I'm sure it's nationwide. And and there are mentors are veterans from Vietnam that have been there for decades. What's happening here We need to figure this out and and help the people. So there is a corollary between the Vietnam war and Iraq.

"Talk Dwight Mitchell from the local metro police department regarding the burned body found forty seconds. Today, and we've had quite a few of those in recent memory. There's I think last year we had a couple of boys that got burnt as part of a homicide or homicide. Cover-ups scraped kind of a disturbing new thing for criminals. So we'll we'll get the latest as to what's a part of that particular case in the LAPD cats still on the docket possibility here, obviously with the tax situation. Visit a dramatic video. I almost made video the day. But because no one was killed. There were use that for video the day. But to your point Willie there were apparently there was a robbery at a convenience store yesterday or the day before where the Robert tied up. The folks duct tape them up and then commenced to setting the the store employees on fire, but the storm had the wherewithal to free himself. It's actually pretty miraculous the way did it freedom self got the bring close off his hair was on fire head to put that out to Willy's point that does seem to be maybe the choice for some reason, you know, inflicting physical harm is enough. It's to have to now try to incinerate your victim, and that's problematic at best. Speaking of who's the victim. Jessie, smollet says he's innocent. He's still maintaining his innocence right now. But it was pretty indicting yesterday. When the Chicago police. Superintendent Eddie Johnson said he's not only upset with the smell. But really really question. Well, I'll let you hear what actor jussie smollet took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career. I'm left hanging. My head and asking why Johnson goes on to say he's angry with the the way smell planned the use of a noose on his neck. How could someone look at the hatred and suffering associated with that symbol and CNN opportunity to manipulate the symbol to further his own public profile? The smollet didn't think this through at all or thought it too far one or the other depending how you wanna watch TV or something may well to the. And I get this was it Nigerian or yes. The two brothers with you brothers are American. But yes. Julian connections. And he he wrote one of them a personal check for thirty five hundred dollars. It has Justice name on it. Well, they've got video of them buying the equipment that we have solved that in about five seconds. He allegedly staged his attack because he was dissatisfied with his salary. You've probably heard that. But just in case, you haven't just update you he now may lose everything FOX tries to figure out how to handle the situation. Twentieth Century, Fox television, entertainment said in a statement, we understand the seriousness of this matter, and we respect the legal process. We are evaluating the situation, and we are considering our options be while. He did go back to work after a hundred thousand dollars bond on the set of empire. When he got there. He told them I'm sorry. I've put you all through this and not answered any calls. I wanted to say I'm sorry. And you know, me I would never do this to any of you. You're my family. I swear to God. I did not do this. Wrote them a check with his name on it. Well. Maybe they did some work around the apartment. I don't know. I mean, I I know I get what you're saying. It's right now, we have circumstancial evidence. And again, one of the things that we always go back to we indict people, we saw there was a court of public opinion was innocent in the court public opinion and people to tune it out about smollet. And now the court of public opinion is like what what's the good? That's the good. That's come out of all this. There is a positive, and that is you're going to see members of the media, Robin Roberts. You'll think twice before she approaches the story like she did good Morning America. Mason everybody ABC has your back on it. Well, I mean, I'm saying personally, she can't sit there and go, okay. "W h s. Dwight Mitchell on with this Dwight how are you? Tony I'm doing fantastic better than I deserve. But I'm a handle it. Anyway. That's awesome. Listen, we've talked about this before. And nobody has as well with this. But it's gonna be, you know, twenty two degrees with a wind chill, maybe in the in the single digits on Sunday, people are going to warm up their car for church, and sometimes they do that without being inside the car. What do you want to tell people about this? Well, it's extremely dangerous to do. So because we have seen no increase in car thefts. And one of the main reasons is people. In their cars running. I know everybody's done that at some point in time in life. But it's also presenting a crime of opportunity for people who look to commit cards, and it would cut down a great deal on stolen cars stolen vehicles. Where you feel like you're being violated. End up wrecked or abandoned damage. There's some kind of ways is causing you a lot of problems just because maybe didn't take a few minutes. I think it's a car warmed up with you in it are driving along. So certainly just went back to cut down mainly for the people who own these vehicles. And I know you think you living in a a community that maybe that won't happen. But I'll give them an opportunity, and they will find you. So we're just put it on a big call center. Everyone just to be very Bill in what you're doing your surroundings. These crimes of opportunity won't happen and put other people in danger because most of the people still sitting a lot of teenagers that are still things of this nature. And it may not have experienced driving off someone who may have some of the issues, and it just puts the community and unnecessary panic when it does it needs to be thinking about not only that I know even in the springtime a lot of times, people will leave their garage doors open, you know, throughout the course of the day, and I know of some situations where maybe a small air compressor or tools or whatever could still right out of the garage. Just because people don't think about doing that. And unfortunately, it seems like in today's times you just about need to do that. Yes, Tony that. That's true. It's the same way with the vehicles is the same way leaving your car unlocked and supposedly even ipad our golf clubs purses or anything like that. Because I think we just live in instantaneous society. I call it. The microwave society we wanna to do things and doing right now quick, maybe not taking an extra few minutes. It takes to be a little cautious with that. And I just think sometimes we just not thinking, and it's a crime of opportunity again. Folks, we're looking to do that. And we have that element in our society. Now, the one thing we also see in the the the activity now, so many people become addicted to opioids that kind of thing is easily apparently to become addicted to those things and with that in mind people look for money in any way to sell those that could be the golf clubs or or something that you didn't even think was that valuable or maybe it was do you like like you mentioned an ipad? And I think that that's had committed this increase in crime. So to speak not committed, but has led to this increasing crying? In some instances. That's true. But a lot of people saying that there's no on among beach who they have a drug problem. I they just have sticky fingers. Put the seat of people who this new phenomenon we decided that it's all hope you I certainly that is part of the problem. Just wrongdoers and looking for opportunities to do just that just hoping and praying that people have changed apart. No understand that working hard. And getting those things that you don't have too many more sticky fingers. I wanna have is from a crispy cream donuts.
