"Twenty three twenty three minutes after the hour with shown in front to doctor calls and comments are just a second but they have now voted on the greatest game ever played here we are three finalists of the ice bowl in Green Bay for the nineteen sixty seven league title between the Packers and the cowboys the nineteen eighty one NFC title match featuring Joe Montana's pass to Dwight Clark known as the catch and of course what we refer to in Baltimore is the greatest game ever played twenty three seventeen sudden the victory over the New York Giants for the nineteen fifty eight NFL championship so Frank did it come out on top the greatest game ever played probably not because time marches on and we're talking about the greatest game ever played in nineteen fifty eight my goodness that was forty to fifty to sixty plus years ago and so there have been a lot of great games since then over time type games etcetera so up until it's time and for many years thereafter it was the greatest game ever played so there might have to be an asterisk next to it I nationwide panel of sixty six million members chose the greatest game ever played as the greatest game ever played it finishes number one so there that's a little bit of a shocker well I tell you the reason why I think it's it's it's it it deserves that standing and has been able to retain that standing all these years and that is it was the transformation that represent of the transformation of the National Football League to the point where it was just another you know almost second reach sport in the eyes of a lot of people but now in after that greatest game ever played it put the National Football League on the map it drew therefore it's time a huge number of people of that day and from there on out the National Football League drew brother grew X. you know it's to the point where it is today where it's a multi billion dollar organization no I think wanting more makes the carry it can make the point that they have it's a giants area and was New York and it was in New York had it been against Cleveland against Cleveland it would have been the same as on Madison Avenue paid attention the whole world heritage goes in New York and of us the popular if the game grew and so it should be number one I agree with that let's go to Carl on apple's Carl good morning run CBM morning guys guys want to make a comment about Pimlico issue okay after the bottom reads far more government be trusted for anything like that after they've left a Baltimore harbor just window and all the business owners just on their own it's just that I yeah I had another girl listen and one for report that the point Ford earlier this morning was of one third of of the a live stream press three pavilions are now vacant and due to crime and due to expense and a lack of business people not come and want to come down to the city anymore they've had to close up shop a little time putting people in the stores yeah if I was mayor shapers relatives I'd be thinking about moving that statue pretty soon the way it's going yeah really have a good day guys thanks so much but the you know it's a good point well the only way Pimlico would work is is if if it includes redevelopment of the entire area much like they did in fells point much like they did in canton if you're going to do it you got to do it right you just can't take one little component of the of the of the area and improve that and not the rest of it so are you gonna do gentrification as far as something like that learn again I'd usually doesn't the US or DC did too former blighted areas of always and can't and I mean you could say that's gentrified and it's working mon fells point not as March I mean I would say harbor Easter right B. B. right of hardware alters all of them brewers hill middle running because when you look at what's coming to and when you look at what these places look like you know twenty years ago thirty years ago thirty five years ago or so and look where they are today it it goes to show you a can work but is gonna be a comprehensive plan it can't be just one little isolated piece of the pie that's a twenty eight you're listening to John and Frank and we are Maryland's wake up call Hey Frank liver.

"Jeff, I wouldn't be shocked if Clemson wins. I really wouldn't. So I think that Clemson will cover. I don't know if they'll win, but I think that the lose or win. But if they lose will be under five points, they'll lose I got a score of thirty four to thirty one Alabama wins thirty four thirty one. Pretty fourth weighs thirty four to thirty one. Oh so last second field goal type steal. Maybe maybe or maybe Clemson MRs 'Second fill. Oh, you all who'd he parkey. So we're for college kid, especially in that. Oh god. I feel so bad from a news in the national. All don't let that happen with a kid, please. Don't jinx them like that. I think that I think that they will. I think this would be really game. Do you think it'll be you have a ten point game? But do you think ten? I won't say it. I'll say it is very competitive match up for sure. You know what I did like? Clemson is playing this game in honor of Dwight Clark for the forty Niners. That's cool all mater Dwight Clark he did pass away earlier earlier last year due to which is very debilitating disease. And he was the iconic guy that made the catch. I read a story them. The Tigers will when they arrive to Levi stadium today, they will have a ceremony in front of Dwight Clark statue that is awesome. Yeah. So that just got unveiled this year, by the way. So well for that. I think that's cool Davos Winnie. I think is one of the coolest head coaches in all of sports, and if you don't know much about Dwight Clark, I recommend watching his football life documentary. Very good stuff. All right. So that's it for today. Hope everybody enjoys national championship. We'll be back. You will. We all will it is national championship in his time to see who the best team in college football is and then. We are going to see with the best NFL is after the civil and then we'll go to the draft. And then there's exciting time in the world of football tomorrow breakdown all of that. Plus, maybe some NBA action, and we'll see what else is going on in the world of sport..

"Power of people working together so those will be the five books i would read this summer and all of them are great couple of them you can read in a day or two legacy you can read in a day i think you can read shoe dog at a day and you can re coach wooden day so really the only other ones that they'd take a little bit of time absolutely i should say that shoe dog is bill walton's favorite book for people that didn't watch college basketball during the maui invitational bill walton red shoe dog while he was on the air during the middle of a basketball game so that's good and it's easy and it's an easy read i mean it's not and he's not the thing i like about people that read my book it's not a self serving book like my book has i know the titles gridiron genius but it's not about me it's about the geniuses i worked for and so i it's it's a it's a book about how humbled i am to be able to learn from so many people and i think that that that's when you read shoe dog you'd get a sense of the humbleness of phil knight and you get the sense of why his authenticity was so great but really when you religiously you basically have a roadmap to the future james kurt an incredible job with that book but smarter faster better i'm gonna talk to the i gotta find a i'm gonna try to contact that the writer who wrote the book because i think there's a another book in there about why the nfl and nba drafter all bad because most of it is based on groupthink and groupthink doesn't work in the words of bill walsh of raw thinking like no one is thinking and no one thinking tape fraser absolutely this has been a another addition of gm street movie back in a couple of weeks to get you all caught up on everything that's going on in the world of the nfl next week kevin clark in robert mays we'll be back on this feed until then thank you mike money.

"To have how to have speed within the within the game and i think guys that have played different sports and and understand how to play whatever game that they're playing it it's just a different level of skill set that goes into it it's not all about measurable 's it's you know speaking of all the nba draft this coming up it's not all about measurable is not all about your shuttle time or whatever it is about what you do in the context of a game and that's why someone like donovan mitchell may not have the you know the best measurable 's last year at the nba draft but you watch them play the game of basketball and you know he knows how to do things and he knows how to use what he has and the skills that he has to to be a superstar so that's always good news and let's talk about we we have the the summertime obviously we're on summer vacation a lot of people are you know trying to figure out what they want to do in this dead period of sports obviously the nba draft once that's over we really hit the dog days of summer but you have some recommendations for what coaches should do on their summer vacation i think i learned this a long time ago henry kissinger senator's memoirs when you go to washington you bar on the intellectual power you bring you can't renew it once you're there and the nfl is a little bit like that if you're an assistant coach like my son's or anybody eat oh this next four weeks of probably the only time you're going to develop and grow yourself as a person as a father as a husband as anything as a leader in all those things and you got and the only way to do it is to read you know i mean warren warren buffett reached five hundred pages of bay i mean he's got a lot of time to read but he reads it i mean he makes time to read an hour a day two hours a day george raveling one of my heroes of all time i've talked to you about coach wrath if anybody wants to learn about coaching follow coach raveling newsletter every week it comes out every saturday morning fabulous men reads all day long.

"And they would all play and it was it was really a great time and the one thing i learned from that team was great teams like each other that team like each other that's why we won in san francisco and i think the white you know how the tremendous career and it's sad to lose somebody of his personality at such a young age and i'm always in so many guys from that team to me embraced me as a young scout and i and i always think back on those guys and it was tremendous yep clark two time superbowl champion an all pro nineteen eighty two receptions leader in nineteen eighty two the great number eighty seven and i and i will point this out dwight clark i knew him from north carolina basketball circles people talked about how great he was at basketball and i think that was actually his first sport his i love was the game of basketball and he was he was a lot of people's top pick to go to a school like north carolina or nc state and i think even appalachian state at one time he was transferred appalachian state i think was a story my dad told me one time so a little nugget there so important scouting do you realize joe montana almost went to north carolina state to play basketball joe montana's first love was basketball that he wanted to play two sports any any went to notre dame thinking maybe he could and he couldn't play basketball notre dame even though he was good enough to play basketball see that's the kind of information that you need to know is a scout like you know the white clark is sitting there and picked in the tenth round but the way you just described as athletic awesome as a basketball player tells you he's better than any of his time speed and that little information is what really separates good scouts from bad scouts and there's also a difference between time speed running a drill versus knowing how to be quick and no one.

"Should take the nick sabin approach and do it his way and they couldn't do it in pro football because it was harder but in college he could and i think that's patricia needs to do niche that's what he's gotta do now i'm going to transition here to very you know a somber situation and talk about a guy who is an absolute legend he was you know a kiss a north carolina native dwight clark the san francisco forty niners tight in wide receiver the man that made the catch passed away at sixty one for mayo less and you know these are some of my favorite times on the gm free podcast where we get a little bit of a michael bardy story storytime with michael barr says we'll call it and can you just give us a little bit of insight into dwight clark in the man he was and obviously you know losing him and losing legend like him who did so much for the game of football is always tough to see you know it's funny when when when you look at the forty niners success in in the draft when bill walsh took over the team in nineteen seventy nine he went to work he went to los angeles to work out a quarterback to work out a wide receiver james evans and we ended up drafting any needed a quarterback to work out for them and it just so happened that leonard armato the agent for joe montana had joe in los angeles smell today that would have been against the rules because los angeles is neither joe's home or his college campus so he couldn't have worked out there but our motto had them workout for bill and bill fell in love with them in the workout okay and then bill traveled back to clemson to go work out steve fuller and they needed a receiver and so who caught balls for steve fuller clemson but one and only the white clark and he drafted him in the tenth round he drafted montana in the third round in the same draft only by happenstance it wasn't because the forty niners had this incredible scouting system i mean most people thought the white clark was too slow but my favorite memory of the white clark.

"In there and he's dazzling on with his athleticism and his speed they already called him a young michael vick which everybody including michael vick said he was better than michael vick so i think it's just the status quo and they're gonna find a way to get him in the offense and i think you know it's funny in in gridiron genius the book i finished writing i they they wanted me to write a chapter about the future football and what it will look like twenty years from now and so i did and i really think there's going to be a time where we're gonna almost have to quarterbacks like the old single wing you know could you imagine the shawn watson and lamar jackson on the field at the same time who plays quarterback who plays by receiver who does what who does this running back you play anything right how hard how hard is that to defend on my god who's the quarterback you know you got to change this and it is and because the offenses can stay simple and the plays are explosive and the quarterback can do some damage i think this is pretty smart on baltimore's part that utilize him in some way to get indoctrinated into the offense and then let him do some things and have a package for him i think it'll be a good thing look baltimore's a team they know everything's on the line i mean look steve shoddy they he's made it very clear it's either win or everybody's going home i think it's a smart move and we should say it has been reported out of out of ravens scam today are toying with the idea of doing some two quarterback stuff with flacco in the mar both out there together you talking about veterans that have been you know ahead glowing reviews for lamar jackson me eric wet all the safety said that he was as talented of a player that he's ever seen the believes he has a bright future ahead you know lamar jackson ran you know the first team offense for an entire day at mini camp on friday i believe so i it seems like everything is going in the right direction and he's obviously worth at thirty second pick and you know that was a great move to move back into the first round and take him.

"Doesn't want the guy mad at him because he cut him and so he so he blames it on somebody else i mean that's the worst thing to do i used to say all the time like look the one thing is when you cut a player or you release a player let's not have this in an organization where i wanted to keep you but they wanted to cut you like that's the worst thing you can do or you know it's the cbs players don't wanna hit that players see right through that you need to say to the player look here's what we cut you here's our thinking we could be wrong but this is why we came up with the decision we didn't think you could do this or that be a man and tell them what you think don't sit there and tell blame it on the system the system was in place before you trade it for them straightforward be up front and the rest will usually work out well that's what they say i want to talk about a quarterback that is drawing eyeballs and and making you know lots of conversation i mean there's been conversation that he is going to be involved in the offense in some way whether it is he is a quarterback or not and that is lamar jackson of the baltimore ravens rg three said that he wants to nurture lamar jackson and it can't wait to see him fly away and take off the season so th there's just a lot of buzz around lamar jackson what's going on with the baltimore ravens i was so we understand the situation with flacco being there and a and a semi lame duck scenario so ju just lamar jackson himself what are you hearing a and is this good for the ravens you know to have a guy like this lamar did exactly what we thought he would do before the draft when we were talking on the draft shows on gm street we talked about how he's going to go in there and what he's going to do is he's going to mesmerize the veterans and that's a veteran dominant team i mean pieces will controls that team pretty much so when he watches this guy he's how fast is and watches him do the things and some of the things he does or not great i mean let's face it he's been inaccurate at times during practice i'm told.

"Quickness if you don't know where you're going you gotta know where you're going i that's why dungy was so successful with his defense he made his defense so simplistic that young players could play and young players didn't require a lot of thinking so they could use their skill set to play fast and i think what mccarthy's doing here is very good i think it's revolutionary i think it's important for them to get the young players they need all the reps they can get because fans don't understand football is a mathematical sport you only have so many reps and if you're giving them to the players that you know can do that job you're taking away from guys you're trying to develop so what he's doing is essentially starting a farm system they're in green bay he's developing his players he's player development and when we used to have a lot of today's camps i used to believe that the second practice should be just nothing but for the young players it should just be for the young players and it helps injury wise because when you've got a bunch of young players out there they won't get the old players hurt you know the young players sometimes the bad players fall on the ground at somebody hurt so why when you go out there practice during the season tate you never worry about injuries because the players know how to practice but when you go out to practice in august or september or july and august you're scared to death about it just because half the guys on how to practice so this is good and i think we mccarthy's doing is it's different so obviously people are going to second guess them but i think it's the way it should go there's a little bit of an astrologer there with mike mccarthy he is you know i in the twenty twelve like right after the new cba was launched a i think it was jeff saturday if i'm remembering the story correctly he came into camp in and it was during the summer and they were running eleven on eleven and they had pads on and you know and he made some comment like the does this look like non contact you guys because mccarthy was still basically running things as they had always run it and mccarthy was never reprimanded by the league or anything.

"The quarterback to shawn watson back to get the running back for me off of the achilles so and they pick up some pieces back to their team and they're scheduled tells you it's easy to hire schedule when you look at green bay who has the hardest schedule going into the season you save yourself okay well maybe that's the case but you know they get aaron rodgers back so you know i wouldn't negate that i mean the chiefs last year had the second highest tough schedule and they still made the playoffs so i think what you really need to do when you look at the schedule is you need to look at the teams in the middle of the pack and for example last year the temp easiest schedule with the eagles the seventeenth easiest schedule where the rams okay from ten to seventeen every one of those teams made the playoffs with the exception of the tampa bay buccaneers philadelphia made the playoffs new england made the playoffs atlanta made the playoffs the saints the panthers the rams all those teams made the playoffs and so you say to yourself there's those middle of the pack teams what do they have in common they probably have some kind of quarterback play the rams got last year with golf they have some kind of defensive temperament and they're probably got a schedule that favors them where they're not going to go on four or five game losing streak so they're gonna knock themselves out and so therefore the middle of the pack now you always look at the bottom of the pack say okay last year the colts easiest schedule in football and they proved it to the point where the colts were fifty minute team they played fifty minutes really well they couldn't quote you know they had more leads into the fourth quarter that most teams in the nfl except they couldn't win any games and and that's probably not because the colts were cl talented team but because the colts schedule wasn't very good and so then you look at.

"Alrighty let's fire away here of yeah point what's really great about someone like dwight clark is he was very good player he he didn't get in the hall of fame forty niners hall of famer but he has sports him or taliban in because of that there's certain guys like late in shot and he was a great college player but dwight clark will live on forever because of that play don't you find that if you watch that play again as watching it over and over last night the camera work from behind where they had joe montana's zoomed in and he's about to get hit by lewis and and then they zoom out and they pick off dwight clark coming out of nowhere just take the ball out of the sky i think it's one of the more maybe under eight i don't know if the what the right word is but it's one of the great camera shots in sports history as well i had not seen the behind montana play as much as the one that was in the end zone to catch you know have to white going up as everson walls is just you know beneath him and everson walls got picked off so he was a step late and then he couldn't catch up with white clark and joe to this day we'll tell you that he sold to white and they had fun with it because i think they realize joe was i think joe realized that maybe the best thing to do is throw it away and all of a sudden dwight out of nowhere goes up and get to do i used to joke about you know this white boy could jump he's a former basketball player in high school and was a good basketball players a good athlete but he was a guy who wasn't supposed to even be drafted and bill walsall something in him and dwight clark at when he ended his career was their all time leader in receptions and touchdowns now of course that's dwarf now by jerry rice but dwight was a goto guy.

"And we'll get back to basketball here in a minute but this is just man this is from dwight clark's wife kelly clark heartbroken and tell you that today i lost my best friend and husband he has passed peacefully surrendered by many of the people he loved most them thank bullfrog dwight's friends teammates and forty niner fans who have sent their love during his battle with l s that's a tough one that's a tough one a chance to know dwight over the last few years to a some golf tournaments marino and just really love the guy just was just genuine genuine guy dry sense of humor in everyone's gonna remember moran here obviously for what he did with the forty niners and the catch but god just this is super cool guy and i'm really glad to got a chance to to spend a little bit of time with him over the last few years and this thing happened fast li you know i thought it'd be one of those things where you get a little worse for a little worse here and then may be still you know still around for low wild but is a couple years ago where the golf tournament together and i didn't even know we had l s but i remember him the way swing the golf club and he couldn't hold it with his left hand he just kind of put his left hand on the club and swung the club and i thought guys not the kind of grip you would teach found out why because he couldn't couldn't grip with his left hand it didn't have the strength to grip with his left hand and then i found out later that summer that he had ls but you know he was on this show many many times we had dwight clark show four five years ago for a year and he was just a blast to have on super funny spoke his mind and it was just super cool to to have him on so this is this is this tough it's tough when you lose people that especially when you grow up both for those of you that grew up in the area and watch the nine were huge niner fans and just love the eighties niners i didn't really know i mean i knew the eighties niners but i was in southern california so i wasn't it's connected with them as a lot of people out there and i'm sure you just remember that team in him and joe and those guys get in this whole thing turned around and you know that that when you talk about the niner history that's not where it started but in sense it kinda kinda is when you when you think of that team and that that staff and those players and he was certainly a big part of that so do i love him a lot of people around here are gonna miss you a lot of fans are gonna gonna miss you and to kelly i'm glad you're surrounded by a lot of a lot of good people that are up there and i'm sure that made it easier for hopefully it's making it easier for you as best as can be and you know hopefully when dwight passed away was peaceful knowing that is surrounded by people that loved him and around his friends
