Fresh update on "dwayne haskins" discussed on Pro Football Talk with Mike Florio
"By the way, Colin more cow won the PGA Championship with ripe old age of 23 will join us some program tomorrow. Reggie Miller will also join us. As well. I mentioned that 10 of the 12 presidents in the Big 10 from my source voted 12 12 or 14. Voted not to. Ah, they don't want to have a fall football season, so 12 of 14 don't want to have a full football season. And we were speculating who would be the two that did wantto have a football season? Those schools those presidents were pushing for. You want to go around? And guess here? The two schools two presidents than we get to pad 40 here. Um Only I'll start with you. I'm absolutely sure of one of them. I would bet a week's pay. Nebraska is one of the two teams have voted to play here. The other one I got to go to Ohio State. Alright, You've got one too. Make 11. You wantto jump in and try to find the other one. Well, I kind of thought Ohio State and Michigan disputes of the rivalry. No. Todd. Ohio State and Michigan State. No seat, no counter. Iowa, Iowa is the other one. Nebraska and Iowa were the two that I'm told they're presidents were pushing to play. Once again. This can all change. I want to make sure that I put that out there. It can all change because it has all changed here in the last 5 to 7 days here. Let's bring in Pat, 40 Sports Illustrated senior writer here You're usually the one the bearer of bad news, but I beat you to the punch here 15 minutes ago here, Pat. So just a recap. We got the Big 10 and Pac 12. They are scheduled to cancel fall sports coming up tomorrow. You have the Big 12 and you have the offense and the FCC is looking at TV contracts. See if they can maybe bring in some school. So what has happened? What has changed since last week here? Well, a few things changed. I mean, on ly in college sports, Dan, Is it possible that you're releasing schedules all last week getting people excited? And then on Saturday morning, basically northern Illinois goes into a meeting in the Mid American conference is we're not planning And all of a sudden, everybody's like, Oh, if you're not gonna play, maybe we shouldn't play. And then the mid American conference the number nine or 10 conference in the nation says We're not going to play. Nobody else is like, Oh, I guess we're not gonna play either. It's I need. It's unbelievable that this could happen in the space of a weekend. Now. I think the Big 10 was tracking that way all along there, certainly for the last week even before that, Kevin warned the commissioner Has been the most cautious and guarded of all the power five commissioners talking aboutthe season. I think the winds were blowing that way strongly during the week, the Mid American conference probably stuck a finger in the said. If the Big Ten's going, we're probably going to go first. Yeah, it felt like that. You got the commissioner's together that they wanted to be all in on this and not have you know, an out wire and the sec maybe that out wire, but we thought that that was a possibility anyway, the last couple of months here I know that the Pac 12 didn't want to be the first to announces that. I think the big 10 was maybe going to take that preemptive strike and Sarah will be the ones to announce it in the Pac 12. I don't know what happens with the A C C in the Big 12. But could you see where The SEC goes alone and says We're going to play X number of games here and have a conference champion and will have a mythical national champion. I think it be highly improbable. We reported last night and really over the weekend that by the end of this week, everybody will be out. There will be no fall football. You know, I think that I think the Big 12 is closer to going the way of the Big 10 impact 12 than most people think the A. C C. Is Mohr closely in line with where the SEC is, but I think ultimately they all realized We're not going to play. There may still be some people pushing for it in the SEC. But here's why you can't really be the outline and go it alone. First of all, if all the other conferences with all of their medical experts And all the president's saying. We don't think it is safe for the players. Z SEC supposed, say, We really did it for the players were going because we like football. I don't think that's gonna happen. And the other thing is A lot of state schools in that league push really hard at the presidential level to enhance the academic profiles of their school. Specifically Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina. They want out of state tuition dollars by making the school a better place. If you say we're a football power, and we want to play football, we don't care about the pandemic. But that's not going to help you and admissions time. How does this affect these players who would be eligible for the NFL draft? If you think about it? These one year wonders that we've had recently. You know, Dwayne Haskins. Where would show Burrow be Cuyler Murray? These guys who and you know I'm talking about just quarterbacks, but there are a lot of positions here. There are a lot of players who came out of nowhere job. Earl was 1/5 round draft pick, and then he had the magical season and is the number one pick overall. Dwayne Haskins comes out of nowhere. Kyla Murray out of baseball. What? How would they do? I don't know. I mean, that's it's tough for those guys. You feel bad. Look at your man for all the players, and it's been amazing to watch, you know. Tyler Trevor Markets basically unionized college football at midnight last time, these guys they want to play a lot of them do and yeah, for the fully established stars who aren't going to play because they're not. There's no way they're playing in the spring. To the up and coming guys to the hidden gems that you were talking about. This takes away a big opportunity for them. And, yeah, you can try to play in the spring. Sure, And some guys would be happy to play and try to help improve their stock then, But this is mean it puts a major cramp in in the entire trickle down of football from the NFL through college, too. High school recruiting. Everything is on hold and up in the air. What do you think happens today? You know, I don't know whether if you know if the banks then we'll wait until tomorrow on this. There's a scheduled meeting for Pac 12 presidents tomorrow or if something happens to the day, you know, I'm not sure I would expect as you as you obviously said. Those two are going to be probably first. I do think the big tent was trying to get everybody on the same page since everybody was mad at the Big 10 in July or preempting everyone on the schedule. They were all supposed to be on the same page then, But I think the other conferences too are gonna be right there behind them as faras, the group of five leagues, you know today, Here's what I think. Today, The players will continue to make a social media push to try to make their voices heard to say, Hey, let's reconsider and good for them, but it's not gonna be enough. I I was told liability. That was the key word that liability with these universities. And if something happens, and you know what it would cost them, you know the risk and the reward The The risk isn't worth the reward. But can you make a case, though, Pat that at thes Power five conferences who do have the money to test and you know, unlike the Mid American Conference That they are safer on campus..
Washington releases RB Guice shortly after arrest
"In the National Football League today came from Washington Washington football team. Cutting ties with running back Darius Dice the Redskins, releasing a statement that they had released the running back just hours after he was arrested on a felony charge is one of the accounts of strangulation and this is a situation in the NFL. That is one that leaked. This does not want and when you're the Washington football team As I was still trying to get used to everything of saying that the not saying that the the nickname George, but just off seeing the Washington football team, there has been a lot going on with this organization and the in the the football team, making the Ah the immediate move to arrest to let go of various guys. Following his arrest earlier today. Yeah, that's one of them. You know You messed up, right? You really messed up. It is. It's pretty bad, like if the team is saying, all right, we're kind of cutting bait with you because he's still young. I mean, he basically has it played. He's been hurt his 1st 2 years in The league and the team under Ron Rivera is clearly saying we're going in a different direction. And then you go back on the heels off, which was which probably didn't allow the legal system to play out and say All right is the guilty is the innocent. Any of that is all of the allegations that had been hurled at the Washington franchise to begin with. There was the Washington Post article. I believe that came out talking about the sexual alleged Sexual harassment and misconduct inside of the organization. And now when there is a potential strangulation and domestic abuse or abuse in general Darius Guys, he didn't stand a chance. This is a This is a time when he was in the wrong place. Wrong Time had had been another franchise. They may have been a little bit more patient to see some of the facts come out. But after that, and the name a no way they're not taking Any negative press from anybody does not named Dwayne Haskins, you know, and and when we had John Middlecoff on last hour, just talking about the situation I don't see with with what you say with the injuries. With the the history And now with these latest, you know, following his arrest on the domestic violence charges, I don't see Darius guys being back in the NFL. I just I don't I don't think that I don't even think it's a situation. Well, maybe down line, it would have Tio. It would have to be that he gets exonerated on all charges that it is. Clear that he didn't do it like that's like that's the first thing, and then he's gonna have to go into camp on a minimum contract and prove his worth like He's gonna have to go to a work out to be a few running backs injured, but it's not gonna happen, Probably this season. It will be a next season kind of deal because he's got some legalities that are gonna have to play out which which We don't want to presume his guilt yet Mohr or his innocence for the poor for that bag, But You know, it's gonna have to wait for the dust to settle and with Antonio Brown. It took them a year to quote unquote investigate him and he was in professional purgatory, and he wasn't even facing legal charges. So who knows how long this will take?
Washington Redskins retire team name
"Past and present are weighing in on the name change by the team from Washington, DC Fox's Napolitano Reports Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Name is not holding back his excitement upon learning the Washington Redskins would retire their name and logo. I think it's wonderful. It's about time you name it. They're on Barney and company on the Fox business network Monday. His feelings echoed from much of the NFL, including current Redskins, Cuba, Dwayne Haskins. Tweeted. He's looking forward to the future. But some are critical of the decision to get rid of the decades old moniker, including President Donald Trump. White House press secretary Kayleigh Mcenany. Asked about the franchises announcement Monday during a press briefing. He believes that the Native American community would be very angry at this and he does have pulling to back him up. There is a Washington Post poll from a few years ago that 90% of native Americans say they're not offended. By the name Napolitano. Fox News
Statue of former Washington Redskins owner removed at RFK
"Okay. Players in the NBA. Wow, that's that's that's him a revelation. My goodness be sure to catch live editions of the odd couple with Chris Broussard Rob Parker Weekdays at seven PM Eastern Four PM Pacific on Fox sports radio and the iheartradio APP. There's an interesting story that came out today. The statue in Washington the statue of the former redskins owner George Preston Marshall was removed from RFK stadium. So, he was against, he was the former owner, but he was against integrating the franchise in the early nineteen sixties. So props to them for removing it. But I. Here's what I'm going to say as we see all of these confederate statues. Flags being removed now you you see the statue of the redskins owner. There was another one I can't remember the college. I think it was a college perhaps where there was another statue removed. I say go. Let's go the whole way. And start changing the names of these teams that are these nicknames that are Indian nicknames and look I'm not an expert on native American culture. But I I would say leave it up to the native Americans. But! Redskins is a racial slur. That'd be like the. Hat calling the team. The say ambles or the end words. I mean that's what it is, and my thing is this. If we really are against racism. You can't just be against racism that affects black people. You have to be against racism that affects all of the people that have been hurt by it in this country and the native Americans clearly. Were hurt by it. And so the only difference Allison. Obviously, there were different forms of oppression. Slave reverses annihilation darn near annihilation. But. The only difference in why the names of these native these native American nicknames remain. Is because native Americans by and large don't have the power in American society that blacks do so. Blacks have the power to make noise. We have become part of popular culture through our athletes are entertainers politicians? We have actors in the whole nine yards we have. People who do we have enough power to make noise to complain to March to protest and we have enough numbers being twelve thirteen percent of the population. So, they wouldn't dare have a team nickname a black slur at this point. And now they're removing all these other elements of the culture that have been offensive to black people, but we gotta do the same thing for the native Americans they just don't have the population to make a lot of noise about it or the power, but if we're really against. Him How can we pull down these symbols of black Oh Prussian, but not pulled down these symbols of native American oppression. And I don't look I. Don't know about the seminoles. Is that you know again I would leave it up to the native Americans. But if the native Americans, I know, some of them are differ in their opinions, but get their leaders. To African Americans. Get our leaders to speak on stuff. Get their leaders if they're leaders feel like these things are offensive. The braves the Indians the Redskins, maybe even the chiefs. If they feel like they're offensive change the names period and I think it should be. There should become a part of the conversation. This is interesting. Chris I gotta be I gotTA. Plead ignorance here I never looked into what the name redskins beans. Did you ever think to look it up or anything? Well, just think about it, though Redskins, it's like saying black skins are yellow skins, or I mean we know the contentious relationship to the least between the whites and the and the native Americans. When I grew up. Honestly you know it was the stereotype of scalping. Indians and things like that. Those were stereotype. Even Cater Bait yesterday I learned. Something I'd never knew that's enough I. Had you not the black? The black players didn't know and that's my point. If we are eliminating stuff like that and I'm not saying we shouldn't, but that's minor stuff right there. There's a lot of mine. American there is a lot of minor stuff, and this is interesting because we're seeing. We're trying to seem like. We're getting rid of all these symbols. Guy That you said they were moved to statue. George Preston Marshall, so he and a group bought the Boston braves, and they ha. They had also the braves and the Redskins, so there was some kind of connection for them to native Americans now I don't know why. If you're naming a team, you would name it the braves and the reds. Would you name it after I mean most the bears, the tight you know, most of these names are are yeah. Boy. I guess cowboys is. Doesn't make sense to me my only pushback and again I'm not saying this shouldn't be done is. If, we're trying to tell these young athletes. Hey, Dwayne Haskins quarterback of the redskins. You shouldn't suit up this fall until they changed the name of the Redskins, and then we pit the young. african-american quarterback and his whole team will, it wouldn't be a
Cam Newton feels like 'fish out of water' as free agent
"Switch teams have been or will be affected the most with the stoppage in sports is it someone like lebron and the Lakers is it a future free agent Yanis entre combo in the Milwaukee Bucks we played some audio from Kim Newman at the top of this hour cam Newton made it clear you know he's being affected his opportunity to latch on to a new team he said he feels like a fish out of water not being a member of the Carolina Panthers and you know he can't latch onto it seem right now you can't go meet with squads and teams and you know we've had seems like the the charges who have been added him the Redskins his old coach Ron Rivera who haven't showed public interest in acquiring him to maybe help Dwayne Haskins lead the way or set him up so you know who or what or what squads are being affected most by the stoppage in

"Biggest thing more than anything else is a confidential we. Do you understand our our system. You Know Scotty. Turn our offensive. Coordinator Neal were using the session that we had basically hadn't played for nine seasons young quarterback. He had some success. You Know He. He's couldn't locker room. You understand what I'm looking for. CaN'T WITH SCOTT. He's parcel hopefully. We can take advantage with our with our new tape. You know a lot is in there because it's it makes sense. You know we. We talked about the Kyle. Allen Trade on Tuesday's show And my feeling is that I loved the trade. I loved fifth. Rounder faure need. Which is a quarterback on this team? And I love the fact that Kyle Allen not only familiar with the system which is what Ron Rivera. Just told you that. He's very familiar with the system. And this is a unique off season that we are entering here. Perhaps no minicamps no. Ota's who knows could be a condensed training camp by the time we get there although let's hope that's not the case But somebody that knows the system was going to be important to this whole thing And I think the guy can play and they clearly like him and have confidence in in and they know him and so to get him for a fifth. Rounder to me was a no brainer By the way I mentioned this with Tommy the other day and I and I looked at a little bit more of Kyle Allen from last year. He's a playmaker man. He can make plays he can make all the throws to What he does in his bad performances is. He does make some throws into tight windows. Where you're like. Nah You can't make that throw. He makes some head-scratching throws that ended up. You know being intercepted but you could say that about a lot of first year quarterbacks. I knew it was the second year but first year of really playing but anyway that was Ron Rivera on Kyle Allen now here was Ron Rivera when asked about Dwayne Haskins is doing haskins. You're starting quarterback me too. Is that what you're going into camp believing these guys going to compete? I can't.

"Talk Radio Station in particular It was a bit of of a relationship. That was puzzling. At times. We would hear key. People from the team ended UP ON RADIO STATIONS. Outside of the market all the time And even on the other radio station at times And not ours. It never made a lot of sense to any of us can explain it have a lot of theories but I'm not gonNA get into him but yes It's it's it's been and many of you have recognized this. It's been you know it's been weird. It doesn't happen that way in most cities Especially when you're the rightsholder As as ninety s been usually there's significant preferential treatment which the radio station never got over the course of the years in fact It got the opposite of that. But anyway this Ron Rivera interview was probably not a redskins. Pr Situation Anyway. It was probably Ron Rivera with a relationship with a local radio host that market and going on with that local radio host anyway for the purposes of of this show it. What's important here is what he said and of course we can play back what he said in comment on what he said. So the first Soundbite that I'm GonNa play for you was A response to why. The redskins traded a fifth rounder four panthers quarterback Kyle Allen a quarterback that obviously Ron Rivera and Scott Turner. Were very familiar with here. Was His answer..

"And He'd be two years removed from his last game. So time has not worked for Trent Williams in his agent his agent in in all honesty from afar without knowing every detail of this I concede that but it really looks like the agent mess this up seven ways to Sunday really screwed it up you know and this is a situation where. Trent's lost a lot of money and now is on the verge of potentially losing a lot more. My position hasn't changed. If I'm the redskins right now there's no football going on there's no OTA's or mini camps. That are GONNA be scheduled. There's nobody even in the building. Okay so I'm waiting until the draft at the very least. I'm waiting until the draft win team decides or figures out. They can't get the left tackle that they wanted. And now maybe is ready to deal a little bit more than what they were talking about dealing again. The problem is is that trend's going to have to lowers contractual requirements and his demands. You know per Albert breer. He said this is one hundred percent. The reason a trait hasn't gotten done is because Trent's asking for way too much so he's going to get realistic about what he's worth. And then maybe the redskins will get an offer that they can accept and maybe that happens before the draft but at this point I would bet that it happens after the draft in the point that some of you have made to me in it saying that this is the point you made last year. Which is you can be patient because teams get desperate after a preseason where they lose somebody to injury or maybe they lose somebody to injury early in a season And you can get it done early in the season. That's true but I do think there is a sense from this new regime that they want to move on from this. There's also the issue where in this one part where the redskins don't necessarily have you know total leverage in this situation and that is they've got to figure out what they're going to do it left tackle. They don't have a left tackle right now. The only one under contract it can start. Is Trent Williams? You know other than that. They they signed this guy. Cornelius Lucas for depth purposes. So they've got a you know there's some incentive for them to move on as well as quickly as possible so that they can go out and sign. Donald PENN RESIGNED DONALD PENN. Or make another move or by the way have it as a priority in the draft which they should have it as a priority in the draft anyway right because even if trump comes back and plays this one season for twelve and a half million bucks you know. They're they're probably not going to franchise tag him next year. John Crime tweeted something out yesterday that I thought Sawn in and made a note of he said yes the Redskins did talk to left tackle. Jason Peters at one point as of now doesn't seem like anything's going to happen. I think there's some curiosity and wanting wanting to see what they have in Jaren Christian as well assuming Trent Williams trade of course Jason Peters is according to spot rack and get a deal. Eight to nine million. He's one of those guys Erin. I would figure gets a deal done around draft time or after when teams figure out what they can or can't get in the draft but eight to nine million is real money for one year for a thirty eight year. Old Left tackle If I didn't mention this the other Dale mentioned it again. Jason Peters is represented by Vincent Taylor the gentleman who represents Trent Williams doesn't mean the Redskins can't work out a deal with Jason Peters. You know it's a totally different situation. And obviously they've worth worked with Vincent Taylor before in the past with Trent Williams In fact I think I think Morgan Moses were maybe it's Christian himself Jaren Christian is actually a Vincent Taylor Client as well But Jason Peters would be one answer. But you can't sign Jason Peters until you know what the Trent Williams situation is now. You might be able to go out and see in re-sign Donald Penn you know before you have resolution to the Trent Williams deal because that's not nearly as much money and Donald Penn was well liked. Cooley pointed this out when he was on the podcast last week. You know his former college teammate. At Utah State Donald Penn play pretty well last year. You know he really did played pretty well. So that's essentially the latest right on the Trent Williams Situation I. If I'm the REDSKINS I don't have to do anything now. The more public Trent Williams and his agent become about this situation the more it seems to be back firing a little bit on Trent Williams. You know the more and more the FAN base starts to turn towards you. Know what Trent you know? This has been about money and we are glad you're healthy and were sympathetic to what you went through but You know you better lower your demands. The Red Skins can get something back. I think that's what the sense of a significant percentage of the fan base are others of you and you've made this very clear or like dude this. Just take the fifth rounder and move on. The problem is is that his contract demands right. Now have to come down to get a deal done anyway. At least according to Albert breer so there you go That's the latest on Trent Williams bringing to get some other redskins news here momentarily including Ron Rivera's conversation on Charlotte Radio Station. From two days ago said a couple of things about Kyle Alan in about Dwayne Haskins about Cam Newton. We'll get to that. Julia Donaldson had some stuff on our radio station yesterday. About Alex Smith but Adam Schefter was on with Mike Greenberg this morning on Greenberg show get up and one of the conversations they had Was about the NFL draft general managers. Don't want the NFL draft to take place on April twenty third which is now less than a month away. During the during this you know essential period of time we're locked out from facilities CETERA. They don't feel they can prepare Adequately for the NFL draft. Not only that they feel that some you know certain teams might get an advantage because some states are on lockdown. They wouldn't be able to even if the NFL let them in. They wouldn't be able to while others would be able right so Disadvantaged situations based on the state they're working cetera et Cetera but the NFL's going to move forward with the draft. Adam schefter and Mike Greenberg were having a conversation about this and ultimately it got to an idea that schefter had that Aaron and I went to respond to here it is. I'll give you my idea. Greenie basically how about having one round of the draft on every night so we have seven nights seven rounds basically the Hanako. Nfl drafts. That's what you're talking about in time and there's no rush to get through anything. It gives teams on the clock more time. It's not like coaches have to have players in many camps next week they don't there are no many camps. There's no off season program. There's no other. Sporting events on the calendar have the draft occur one round per night for one straight week in every round would be a big deal that we well we have to get it to be exactly the Hanukkah of the NFL draft. We'd have to add around right. 'cause Hannukah's eight days eight nine. I really wanted to split the first round into two nights. We could do that. We have a we have one a and one B on the first round You know look we need content and we need it. Spread out in each one of these rounds you know they could actually extend the time in between picks usually it goes. I think from isn't it ten minutes in the first round down to five for the subsequent rounds it might be seven. Whatever like that yet or you could do the full ten minutes you know for the for the next Several nights I think you're going to lose people like you typically do anyway. By the time you get to the fourth round you know those first two nights you know of the first round the first night and then rounds two and three on that Friday night are highly rated. Now they're also in prime time. Yes Very highly rated television shows. And you're talking about players that you've heard of M- for the most part and important picks and then you get to Saturday at noon when they have in recent years gone from rounds. Four through seven where you know. It's IT'S A. It's a lightning round to man. It's moving quickly and you get to that point. Aaron where when you're in the fifth and sixth round you know they're having conversations about first rounders and second rounders from the previous two days and then they'll catch up with like the last five picks been so it would be you know more about okay here in around six on our sixth night of coverage. You know the Las Vegas Raiders are on the clock a look. Here's the long snapper they're gonNA take. Yeah I don't know I mean. I do think there's an idea there if you want to say not all seven. If you say I first round gets so night second round gets it so night third night gets zone night and then maybe you do four through seven or four and five and six and seven. You know something along those lines. I think your original trying to fit it in two days. Eight nights of Hanukkah is actually better. I think splitting the first round. Yeah into two nights is much better programming because that first round because you have a longer period of time in between picks And maybe you could even extend the time in between six to twelve minutes or whatever You know the remember that first round is three and a half hours right so cut it in half and make you know the show you know. Essentially an hour and forty five minutes on two consecutive nights that would be. That's a pretty good idea. Actually you know how that first pick of the second round after they made that second round there. How much speculation there is about traces of the middle of the first round. We've completed the first sixteen picks and at number seventeen. I don't even know who's picking it number seventeen. You know all of the conversation overnight hours to trade tech yeah. I think that that would really add some drama to it. I think it would be actually a really good idea in this particular draft to do that. you know now you may get that situation right. Where were you do at the end of the first round anyway between number thirty two and the first pick of the second round that the first the team on the clock has a lot of time to think about it? A lot of time to consummate a trade. And so what you might get. Is You know the team. That's picking sixteen in and pulling it up right now. Lanna pick sixteen son happy. They wouldn't be happy because the cowboys are seventeen and they would have all this time but almost whatever the seventeenth pick would be more valuable than the in that situation. You could be the fact that could be because of the fact that you have twenty four hours to make your pick instead of ten minutes or fifteen minutes or whatever makes that more valid. I think these teams have all of the first-round pretty much simulated so many different ways. Anyway that that you had twenty four hours just to go all right possibilities to contact. I like that idea from a consumer point. I think it makes. I think that would be exciting. And by the way let's be honest. The first round of the draft is really exciting but when you get into the latter portion of the first round and it's eleven thirty at night right you know. It gets to the point where it's like all right. Let's get this first round over. I think they should split the first round into into nights. And that's I think that's makes a lot of sense. And then you could you know you could potentially split the round two into two nights and then do round three through seven you know in one fell swoop with shorter periods of time. I don't know you just you just do the whole thing behind closed doors and you reveal you. Just put the whole draft on tape delay and you reveal it that way that way. No there's no Unfair advantage there. I think it'd be exciting to do it that way. I love it. I do All right Let's get back to some redskins Stuff that we haven't gotten to didn't have a chance to get to yesterday Ron Rivera Was on a radio station in Charlotte. All right A show that he's familiar with Some of you tweeted. 'cause I played these sound bites on the radio show yesterday and some of you tweeted something that I I will quickly respond to your like dude. Why do the Redskins let all of their key? People keep doing radio shows outside the market. And they're never on anybody's shows locally. Well I mean. That's a bit of an exaggeration. We've had you know radio guests over the years but yes. There has been a very antagonistic relationship between sports. Talk Radio especially our station over the years with Redskins PR. I can't you know. Can't sugar coat. It there has been for what reason will never really understand. We have a lot of theories as to why but Yeah it's it's not been from lack of asking over the years Every single week a request goes out for various people to come on. And you know Tony. Wiley was the PR guy for many years. He was not very helpful to sports..

"We're not paying you twenty five million dollars a year. We're not paying you quarterback money by the way quarterback money can mean up to thirty million plus. Now you know. Essentially Ron Rivera is trying to build a new culture. You One answer. You went out if you want in. Then you've got to be realistic about your value. You know if you're going to tell us you WANNA be compensated at a quarterback level. Well this conversation doesn't need to move on much further now with respect to Diana's saying Trent in his reps notice the team met with free agent players before meeting with him which wasn't a strong first impression of the new regime Get over it man you know. Stop being so sensitive. It reminded me of the story. That Jerry Brewer wrote Sometime last year. We're in talking about Trent Williams. He said one of the things that really you know sort of upset. Trent was when they drafted Jaren Christian in the third round. And I remember coming on the podcast Aaron and saying seriously like you're thirty one years old about to become thirty two don't you think they're eventually going to draft a guy you know third round fourth round that they hope can replace you when you're too old to play and he's the third render. They didn't take a left tackle. The first or second round first round the trade for somebody. They didn't sign somebody new in free agency and by the way it turns out Christians very good or at least not yet but you know him and his reps noticing. The team met with free agent players before meeting with him. Dude get over it man stopping sensitive. You know how. `Bout a couple of things number one. Let me not be a revisionist historian here in say that. When Ron Rivera was talking about like this February seventh start date to figuring everything out. I was sort of like what? Why haven't you already started to work things out? You got hired a month ago. Why aren't well? I mean he wasn't that they weren't working and I did suggest like one of my first calls would have been to Trent Williams and his agent to say hey is your chance. This can work out. Do you WANNA play. Yes or no And I was a little bit curious as to why Ron didn't reach out to To Trent right away but you know eventually he. Did you know a caller actually called today? I think made a really good point. You know when I hadn't really sort of considered and that is why didn't Trent pick up the phone and call run right. One Ron got hired. You know a a mature player looking to get this situation. Resolved should have called him directly trend to run not agent to Ron Trent. Calling up Ron and saying hey welcome to Washington congratulations I'd love to sit down and talk to you about my situation as soon as possible. I want you know you to be able to have some clarity as to where I am and me the same thing It certainly didn't turn out well last year for the team or for me and I'd like to start off on a good foot. When are you available? You know he could have done that too but Anyway then we get. You're going to say something I was going to bring this up at the end. But when you say that you know Ron Rivera basically said you're in or you're out and if you're out I don't want you around. I think that is where there is a little bit of disconnect here and obviously it goes to. I don't know that he said that. No I know. But that's kind of been the message that has Ryan. He's got a culture to change the culture change right so I think that's where there is at least a little bit of disconnect here because yes you want to get value but if you're also trying to create this culture where your inner you're out trenice clearly out and I think that's something that I don't think is is agents should be bring up but it is something as agent. Damn St- around in that statement. He put out that says look. You're trying to create this culture. You say you're in you're out well we're out so let us go somewhere just like you did for. Quinton Dunbar right but but the point is from the team standpoint. That's fine but you've got to do your part to get out to right which means you can't ask in. Bay asking for a contract that no one's GonNa pay you because if you're asking for a contract that nobody's GonNa pay you will then nobody's GonNa Trade for you right and we are not going to release you and get nothing back for you. Trent I mean we. We got a fifth rounder for Dunbar. Which by the way too low I think we talked about that. On on Tuesday I mean he has to be willing to do what Dunbar did. Dunbar did not get a new contract. He's presumably going to play out his contract in Seattle and then get the new contract right so he tries to be willing to do well. We don't know that Seattle's not GonNa give him a contracts. He didn't do it immediately. They didn't do it immediately. But they but the Ra- but you know to be honest with you for a guy that's making three and a half million for a fifth rounder. It's a different conversation according to give up a first or a second rounder. You and you want to know that you're going to have that player for more than one year right. You know so You get the point to the next part of this. Which was Trent has always respected and liked owner? Dan Snyder there have never been issues and he wants to return one day possibly part of be part of the ring of honor. He wants the relationship to be healthy. So this gets back to what I've alluded to even said directly A couple of times and I think other people that are familiar with sort of the situation have the same feeling In that is that what you see. Trenton is agent trying to do here. And by the way the Trent The trends agent Vincent Taylor sort of suggested the end of that letter that he put out the other day about how much Trent respects and loves Dan. Snyder trance appealing to Dan. Snyder to just move them for anything. Hey help me out man do me a solid. Let me get the hell out of here. You know even if it's a fifth rounder or fourth round just take it you know But what's been really interesting over the last year and a half now. Almost certainly last year is just how silent Dan. Snyder's been all been on all of this. You know when. Trent returned and ripped Bruce Allen a new one and actually refer to it remember. Let's not forget. He brought race into the conversation. You know instead Bruce Allen you know doesn't handle it like the way Bruce Allen handles black players in general You know there were some that. That was a serious accusation that day that he returned right before the deadline to make sure that last year's contract accrued Here's what I believe to be true that Dan Snyder ease just as upset with Trent Williams. As Bruce Allin was that organizationally the people that have all of the information on this are really really angry they really feel betrayed in many ways by Trent Williamson. The way this was handled. You know there's a feeling internally that they did do the right thing that they set up. Doctors Appointments Trent did not attend you. Know to get the The growth on his scalp looked at look. I don't know which side is true telling the truth. And which side isn't I just know for a fact that the redskins organization Bruce Allin for sure and I believe Dan Snyder to. They were not happy with what happened last year. You Know Trent. Before he returned through sort of his surrogates indirectly Santana St Angelo Hall. Other people you know claiming this was all about distrust because of the way. His medical situation was handled when the redskins no that. Initially this was a contract in a request for a contract a negotiation in an extension which Bruce Allin balked at and then it became very much a medical situation. You Know Charley casserly Was on it was on with DOC and Alan on on our radio station on Tuesday afternoon and he said you know this has always been about money and Charlie was one of the first people to say This is all about money. This is not about the medical situation. This is all about money and a lot of people push back because remember back then. This was most of you. Most of the fans believing the redskins are stupid. They're mean they're dysfunctional. All of which is true and has been true. This is their fault. Well slowly but surely I think the tides turned here and I think we have seen Trent Williams first of all come back and while through sort of players that he played with former teammates. They were saying this has nothing to do with money. It's all about medical. Then he comes back you know by that deadline in season last year and actually admits that it's at least partially about wanting a new contract. Okay and now we get the reports about the kind of money he's asking for and the demands he's been making I think there is a sense. You know from the from many in the fan base that you know maybe this was more about Trent. Maybe this had a lot to do with the way he handled it as much as the team handled it. Look what isn't going to change is the fact that the redskins would've been much better off. Organizationally had they moved on from Trent Williams early in two thousand nineteen like right at the end of the twentieth eighteen season before any of this became an issue. You know before. Even he had surgery on his scalp. They should have been in reboot mode. I felt as most of you know but even when we got into the he said you know and there was no no answer coming back from the Redskins In terms of the the accusations about the medical and the distrust over the medical handling of this they should traded you know. If they've made them available we would have known for sure what the offers were but there were reports it certainly. Houston was interested and we know what they gave up for Laremy Tunsil they. Cleveland was interested in the reports that they were willing to give up the first New England was certainly willing to look at a late. I Before they found out what trends contractual demands were And it may have been really hard to trade him. If trump was going to demand a contract would have been much easier though right for a team to say. Look we're GONNA look at the contract. Let's complete destrade. Let's get you in here. Okay let's get you started. We you got two years left in this deal. We're going to extend you. And maybe Trent would have just gone with it and let the trade completed without a new contract as long as you get out of town but I think the redskins were really really upset about this I think they felt like they had been loyal to him during two different suspensions for we'd And that they felt betrayed by the information that was coming out that he was accusing them of being medically negligent In the handling of a situation that obviously was serious. That was obviously traumatic for him. You know we heard it and he spelled it out when he returned in last October But that they you know felt betrayed by some of the things that were going on. They felt that this was his response to them. Saying we're not talking about a new contract with two years left on it you sign. This deal will talk contract after the twenty nineteen season. But we're not going to extend you now. We're not doing that. You know by the way you know if the Redskins were more proactive than we think on the scalp situation. Maybe one of the reasons that they didn't want to talk about a contract extension right away. Is they wanted the medical thing to be cleared up first. You know they wanted. They wanted that stuff taken care of so anyway. We we then. Let's not forget that the redskins were all in on a third party investigation of this entire situation. The League was going to a fund a third party and independent investigation of Trent Williams versus the Redskins Redskins. Were all in on this. I think they felt like would it would certainly What would be revealed was that? They handled this appropriately. And Trent Williams was the one that said that. Don't want these this third party investigation right. He he backed out of it and he said at the time. I don't WanNa relive the trauma when I went through and that's understandable but at the same time it's smelled a little bit is a bit sketchy you know. If he was a hundred percent dead right about this start to finish that the team was negligent. On all of this I think he would have been pushing for this independent investigation to prove everything that he had said. was correct. So time has not worked for Trent Williams. It hasn't worked in terms of the way people feel about this because as more and more comes out it's apparent that it's been more and more about the money then some of you thought and he lost between ten and fifteen million dollars by holding out and he's now in a situation where with the new. Cba The holdouts situation is ugly for him. He can't hold out next year if he does. The contract won't accrue and it'll be sitting in the same position a year from now. I think I mentioned this the other day and if I didn't I'll say it. Now Trent Williams is in a situation where he has very little leverage he either has to drop these contract demands and then hope did a team will give the redskins with the redskins won or he's going to have to contemplate either playing or holding out again and if he holds out again his career is near over two years. You know giving up tw- you know at that point it would be twenty two million bucks minimum in two years. Who's going to want to sign him in twenty twenty one? Who's GonNa WanNa play him in twenty twenty one? You know you would then have to ask the serious question of how much he really wants to play football..

"Beat lefty dresell how about Anthony? Ren donut art monk Here's the best one. We both predicted Alan. Iverson is a fourteen seed would advance. And he's GonNa Face Sean Taylor in a second round matchup with the winner playing Gary Clark. John Riggins second round match up now. I think rigaud trounced ports in the opening round. I think we both thought rigaud would get through that. And I think we're GONNA get through Gary Clark as well but a John riggins either again Sean Taylor or Alan Iverson Sweet. Sixteen matchup would be really interesting. I think we're go would prevail. I think he would I as I said. I think Taylor has a chance for the final four here just because of you know Sean Taylor. Yeah so you like Taylor over Iverson here. I do like Taylor over. I think I think I would lean in your direct weller. I like him to win. I don't know if I would vote that direction. Just because I think again. Iris and criminally under seated. And he was just. He was so amazing when he was here he was a he. I agree with you very very understated. Taylor's going to win the vote other second round matchups. By the way the the upsets in the first round Alan Iverson was an upset is a fourteen seed We also had bobby. Beth is a twelve seed upsetting Frank Howard which I think we we may have had There were a couple of nine seeds over eights. Morgan wootten Got By bobby Mitchell. And then there was another nine seed that also advanced Ryan Zimmerman knocked out Rod Langley and Zimmerman. Now Gets Joe Gibbs in the second round Brian Mitchell as an eleven seed. Beat Charlie Taylor so that was also a first friend upset although I I don't think of think of it as an upset now it's Brian Mitchell against Sunny Johnson. In a second round match up you also have Darryl Green and Joe Theismann in a one eight matchup and Dexter Manley Against Sammy. Baugh in a seven to match get another one Niklas backstrom. In Elvin Hayes Backstrom. The succeed would not surprise me if he advanced. I would predict. Backstrom is advancing in that one. Yeah I mean in fact I think some of the you know the winners Strasbourg in over Doug Williams You know Back backstrom over. Rizzo you know is an indication of a lot of cap fans definitely participating in this Hope be beat. Bryce Harper in the first round. That's not surprising. Okay probably not rice harvest. Exactly but Sean Taylor. You know reflective of certainly We'll see Taylor against Iverson and then with one of those having the opportunity to face one of the all-time legends in this town. John Regan's and Sherzer Jacoby are the two most interesting second round matches that one I could see going either way. Shire's Jacoby Nat Scherzer's going to advance in fact let me just go to. Let's see where the voting is right now because the voting is already underway Here it is. The the voting for these second round. Matchups started early this morning in so far with not a lot of votes. In Two hundred seventy votes in Scherzer's got a fifty seven percent to forty two percent lead a fifty seven point four to forty two point six over Jacoby Elvin Hayes is getting you know beaten pretty handily by Backstrom so we had that one. How about Beth against Big John? Big John's got the lead over battered. Darryl Green thighs men green right now. Heavily a big time lead over thighs men Again if the voting's very early you've got another nineteen hours to vote on this so just go to the team. Nine eighty twitter page right At the team nine eighty. It's not that hard to find at the team nine at team ninety. Excuse ME AT TEAM. Nine eighty The Manley versus Sammy Baugh Sammy. Baugh got the lead over Dexter Manley Havoc Sunny against be Mitch. It's sunny right. Now with the lead Strasbourg unsettled Strasbourg with a big lead. Over unseld early Ovechkin You know easily right now over Morgan. Wootten Rigaud see this already. Regan's has the biggest lead here in the second round matchups that I've checked so far. He's crushing Gary Clark Right now gibbs has a big lead over Ryan Zimmerman Gary Williams with a big lead over Katie. Lucky big lead and in the matchup that we just talked about. Sean Taylor Alan Iverson. It's not even close. You're right Sean. Taylor crushing Alan Iverson. Right now the voting is very much. We're only a couple of hundred votes on all of these. 'cause the voting just started a few hours ago but Goto at team nine eighty on twitter or the team nine eighty dot com and vote for this. This is actually Going to be a lot of fun. We'll have more discussion about this. We get further into it All right Lots of redskins news to get to. I'm going to start with the New Stuff on Trent Williams. You know we talked about the other day. The agents statements Vincent Taylor the age agent statements about the situation. He's not happy or the agent spoke Diana Rossini's got some stuff from the agent is well get to her stuff. Here momentarily This from Albert breer though on the Trentham Situation Albert breer rights four s is m M. Qb Monday morning quarterback and this actually comes from his mailbag. Somebody asks a question and then he answers the question and I found this very early this morning. The question which came from a Redskins Fan. What is the trade value for Trent Williams and Albert breer answered that question as follows quote? My understanding is there have been suitors out there for Trent Williams. The trouble is and I'll be very clear about this. Almost one hundred percent. This is about his contract situation last year. Words circulated that Williams ask the Redskins for quarterback money and the redskins found interest over the last few weeks Williams. Only to have suitors. Push away from the table. When they were apprised of Williams's financial demands Breer continues thing is asking another team for first or second round. Pick for player is a lot. You're giving up a piece of capital that can bring in a young top player under costs control for the next four or five years or maybe multiple players if you trade The pick and move down and get more picks so the player being dealt for has to be good and really valuable to begin with but if then that player wants to break the bank to Andy's in his thirty s again. It's a lot that's not to say. Williams may not may not have a legitimate beef with the team or that. He isn't worth more than he's making. It's just that if he really wants to be traded he has to be realistic about it and work with the team since he's under contract if he's more worried about making top dollar than played ear out and hit the market next March. It's that simple. That was Albert breer answering a question from a redskin fan in his Monday morning. Quarterback column Mailbag so look at the big takeaway from this is that from his understanding. This is almost one hundred percent about his contract demands. Okay that the reason a deal hasn't been worked out is that Trent Williams is asking for too much. The teams aren't willing to pay and he mentions that word circulated last year that Williams had asked the redskins for quarterback money will J. P. Finley if you remember on this very podcast said that the amount that Trent Williams had asked the redskins four was even hard to say was obscene And I mentioned a couple of days later that I had learned that it had been at least twenty five million a year if not north of twenty five million per year while the Redskins you know Scott at that. They're not paying. Trent Williams quarterback money one of the things. We've talked a lot about and this is where I think the agents really done Trent a disservice in that. Is You know the holdout last year cost. Trent you know somewhere between ten and fifteen million dollars with split the difference and call it twelve and a half million dollars. It's a lot of money that the holdout cost him. And all the while from my understanding the agent Vincent Taylor was suggesting to Trent that it would be okay that they would be able to make it up with the next deal. After he finally got traded in the off season well again I know I've beaten this this horse dead multiple times but there is no team out there that will feel obligated to compensate. Trent for what he lost last year. They couldn't give two shits about that doesn't matter to them. The redskins don't really care about that. Either you know even if they are partly culpable for the holdout for the deterioration of the relationship. He didn't play for them last year. Had two years left on their own on his deal. They don't know him for what he lost last year. In so trying to break the bank with quarterback money's in attempt to get back what he lost last year He's not getting that money back. He is thirty two years old. He just sat out a full season. And he's he can certainly say I'm one of the better left tackles in football. You sort of have a hard time. Saying he's the best left tackle in football and somebody I forget who it was. You know tweeted me and said You keep saying that you know. He hasn't been the best left tackle in football. That's for football people to say well first of all we can have opinions of her own on this show but the bottom line is. He's made one all pro team and it was the second team in. Twenty fifteen and I know that's writers but the all pro team is taken more seriously because the pro bowl voting is essentially a popularity contest with fans and with players Anyway I digress. There the bottom line here is Trent. Williams is going to have to lower his contractual demands. If a deal is going to have any chance of getting done now Diana Rossini had a ton on this as well She had a long Tweet yesterday along thread about some of the things that she has learned recently. I'll just read you the entire thread. It started with. And we've had Diane on the podcast on the radio show and Diana really is plugged into the team. It starts his follows quote. It has been made clear to me. There is no salvageable relationship between the Washington redskins and Trent Williams. I've spoken to multiple sources from both sides. And here's where it stands. Williams met with Ron Rivera for about ten to fifteen minutes a couple of weeks ago and afterwards. There was not a feeling between the two that this was going to work. Trent his reps noticed the team met with free agent players before meeting with him. Which wasn't a strong first impression of the new regime. Sources say there are still players now on the on the roster that Washington coaches still haven't met with and that this wasn't intentional per sources meaning not meeting with Trent or meeting with others. Before Trent she continues Diana Rossini. Trent has always respected liked owner. Dan Snyder there have never been issues. As former captain the seven time pro bowler really wants to be able to move on from Washington but still return one day and possibly be part of the ring of honor. He wants the relationship to be healthy. She continues the redskins shopped Williams leading up to the Columbine and had interest per sources days after the combine. The club allowed Williams's seek a trade partner. Since then Williams Williams is agency or agent found team. Who WANTED TO DO BUSINESS? I'm told Washington tried to negotiate but believe that they can't just give a player like Trent away for small value in return from what I learned. Washington believes they have been flexible. And this is on Williams's agency. The agency believes Washington has been inconsistent in their ask. So there you go That from Diana Rossini. So let's let's go through that first of all when she talked about the meeting that Ron Rivera and Williams had lasted for just ten to fifteen minutes. A couple of weeks ago and that there is a feeling between the two that this wasn't going to work You know again. This is obviously a guess. But if part of the conversation was Trent what are you looking? For and Trent said. I'm looking for quarterback money or the number that he gave out with quarterback money. Will I can sort of understand why that conversation would have been super short like Ron Rivera? Busies juggling a lot of balls right now like it ain't GonNa work. Trent wants too much money. We're not paying you twenty five million dollars a year. We're not paying you quarterback money by the way quarterback money can mean up to thirty million plus. Now you know. Essentially.

There's my I haven't really had a winter weather discussion Aaron and a longtime And my my good friends like sue PALCA and Doug Kammer who I. I love both of them. I love so of known sue for thirty years. Topper Shutt does does a good job. I know topper you know. I don't know that they're going to be mentioning this quite yet. The weight you know for a few days to see if the models continue to be consistent with this and again I'm not I'm not putting it out there as a snowstorm for us or for the people that live in the immediate metro area. It's more likely than not gonNa be a cold rain But For some it could be you know that live way out there in rural areas and well north and west it could be a little bit more than just rain so there you go. There's my my long range weather update for the first time this winter because we have not had any winter to speak of Also I've mentioned Our team nine eighty bracket for The ultimate DC sports star. Nine hundred Dot Com and do it there on the website as well but all of the first round match ups are over and now we're into the second round the round of thirty two and there are some very interesting matchups len bias against Patrick Ewing Len Bias beat Chris Hamburger in the first round ewing. Beat lefty dresell how about Anthony? Ren donut art monk Here's the best one. We both predicted Alan. Iverson is a fourteen seed would advance. Redskins get Allen from Panthers, trade Dunbar to Seahawks
"The Redskins have acquired quarterback Kyle Allen from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a fifth round draft pick Alan reunites with new Redskins head coach Ron Rivera he is expected to compete with current quarterback Dwayne Haskins Allen is twenty four and threw for thirty five hundred and eighty eight yards with nineteen touchdowns and seventeen interceptions over the last two seasons he became the panther starter last year when cam Newton got hurt the Redskins also traded cornerback Quinton Dunbar to Seattle in exchange for a fifth round pick I'm Greg heist
Redskins introduce Ron Rivera as head coach
"The redskins officially named Ron Rivera their new head coach yesterday. Washington Fire Jay Gruden on route. Two a three and thirteen season the Redskins have not won a playoff game since two thousand five. That was when Joe Gibbs was their head coach Washington looking for some of the stability ability that Rivera brought to Carolina. The Panthers never won a title. They did reach the playoffs. Four Times under coach Rivera including a super bowl trip in two thousand fifteen. The redskins last made the Super Bowl in nineteen ninety-one and in a matter of moments the redskins will introduce Ron Rivera as the new head coach. You can see see. They are getting ready now in the nation's capital and as we wait for coach Rivera. I'll ask you this. What do you want to hear this afternoon? I think from Ron Rivera. I I just want to hear why he was attracted active to this job. Several Head coaching vacancies out there. And and why he took this job and and presumably so quickly when there could be potential other openings out there even in Dallas as we wait for that one and then secondly I wanna hear his evaluation or just thoughts overall Dwayne Haskins in what he might be thinking with regards to the offensive coordinator position. Since we're thinking that he's going to interview the current Guy There Kevin O'CONNELL and and You know what he might be looking being out of the coach from nap position. If he doesn't go with the guy who's currently their jobs I think the the the maturation process of dwayne Hassans is important for this football team. And I think that's the number one issue for Ron Rivera. Moving forward is how do I get my quarterback if he feels doing Haskins is indeed his quarterback How do I get my Guy Ready? Ready available with the right mindset because we do understand doing hasn't silly young player. So how do I get them in the right mindset to be successful in this football league and I'm a little sour about this. I'm a huge huge Ron. Rivera Fan. I sat with them while I was out. During my tenure with the giants was over and I was going to different Teams and sitting down with their coaches. He was the one that struck me. The most is just is a straight shooter. Honest about what. He does with his with his teammates. Everybody loves them. Teammates loving other coaches love. Him and I think he's walking to the podium right now. We'll take Noon I happy Thanksgiving everybody. Today's the beginning of a great new year for the Redskins Organization and its fans I I'd like to thank Bill Callahan. Those here five years did a great job for us a great guy and we really appreciate him with the Redskins have needed is a cultural change. Someone that can bring a winning cultural to organization at starts and ends with our head coach when looking for that man. I looked for a class. Act That's how you describe coach Rivera. He was two time coach of the year. And for those of you. That don't understand. That's very very hard to do. You should google that Because it's impressive oppressive He was fifteen to one which is extremely hard to do Did my research spend a lot of time talking a lot. Allow People A lot of coaches and one thing that came across certain words and these words. We're integrity honesty. Knowledge Grit determination. It's all about winning. Ron Rivera knows how to win as a player player as a coach as a new head coach of the Redskins. One thing. That's very very important. We're GONNA have one voice and only one voice alone and that's the coaches like to welcome. Ron's wife Stephanie. We've gotten over the last few weeks and our new head coach of the Washington redskins coach Ron Rivera. Thank you you know with about thirty days ago that your team. This team got me unemployed. So just so you know. We're good now thank thank you. It's an honor serve as a coach in the NFL. It really truly is their only thirty. Two of us at anyone given time and these jobs are scarce this one the Washington the redskins. This one is special. This is one of the almost original teams started in nineteen thirty two. There's a Lotta history behind football team in order for us to get back to where we WANNA be. We've got a study that history embrace it history and prepared a repeat that history because if not we're doomed to repeat the most recent history. We're not gonNA do that guys. We really aren't everything we do is going to be about winning. Okay we'll do things the right way and that's the only way we're going to do them because if it doesn't help us we're not doing it man that's just as simple as it gets. So why did I choose the REDSKINS. Probably the question. I know a lot of you guys are wondering that right now with everything. That's out there. I can tell you right now. All this talk about the money I want the money I'd still be out there trying to pick a couple teams against each other. I took this job for one. Simple reason one simple reason because because Dan Snyder came to me with a very interesting perspective for weeks he's explored the reasons why some teams win and some teams. Don't he told me. The common. In fact that transitional success of teams like the Patriots the Seahawks and the chiefs. Some of the other ones was that decision to take it and make a coach centered approach each not an owner centered approach or a team president or GM. Coach centered approach. I told Mr Snider that I appreciate the fact that he believes the head coach matters but I would be honored but under one condition it had to be a player centered culture a player center culture. Something I truly do believe in my responsibility to get the most out of the players to work with them teach them mentor them. Five five to one by one. I most certainly. We'll do it. I've done in the past and I'll do it again. I'll do what I can't help. These young men become not just the players we want but the men in the community we need. These are the guys that can help change things not just on the football field but in this world I really do believe that I was fortunate enough to have that in Carolina and I hope I'm a work to have it here. In Washington. Things will begin with one. Simple principle off discipline. I come from a military family. We're disciplined it isn't taught it's live. It's expected from day they won. I have a philosophy every player every coach everyone who works for this organization. They'll know what day one you're not gonNA play for this team. You're not gonNA work visist team if you don't have the discipline to give us everything. You have no exceptions no excuses. That simple guys. We have to hold each other accountable. That's something that we most certainly will do. We'll expect most from each other whether I was in Chicago Carolina with our very best when the players knew. Do the coaches had their backs. And this is the thing I'm going to ask from the players. Do it the way we teach you do it the way we ask you do it that way. The success will be yours. Okay you do it that way accessible be yours if you don't excess is going to be yours but it's not gonNA be right. Why because if you fail it's on you do it our way do it the right way and if we fail it's on me okay? It'll be on me. The head coach at simple. I truly believe that I ask of. You doesn't work I'm to blame. I told Mr Snider. I wanted to assemble coaching staff. That was truly dedicated. The players and teachers and teachers. Okay I don't have to have a great big names would have to have is great teachers. We want to teach these guys how to play football to the best of their abilities to the best of our abilities and also it'd be good quality young men off the field. I want players tough. Hungry will do whatever it takes to play redskin football fall in January and hopefully into February. I told him I wanted to work. Hand in hand with the head of player personnel could spot potential and others that even. I didn't see another didn't see. That's going to be important because it has to be a collaboration no matter who it is no matter. WHO's working with us? It has
Dwayne Haskins Missed Final Snap While Taking Selfies with Fans
"This was a weird ending to a Redskins game one of the players missed the final play because he was busy taking a selfie with fans Twain Haskins helped the skins snapped a four game skid and win their first home game in thirteen months without Haskins the backup QB took a knee to run out the clock on top of that the the York Post reports Joe Thijs been tweeted how do you miss the last the game because you're taken self fees that's unprofessional
Dwayne Haskins named the Redskins’ starting quarterback for rest of season
"Appropriate that we begin with news out of the nation's capital redskins coach Bill. Callahan said within the last half hour that Dwayne Haskins the redskins starting quarterback the rest of the way Haskins started the last game for Washington against the Buffalo Bills. Coming off a bye the redskins will face the jets. That's this week Tim Thought the decision to name. Dwayne Haskins distorted the rest of the season. Do it now and stop answering the question. I guess and that's the key I think you just go make a decision and go with it. Don't look back. He's the quarterback of the future. They want him to be the quarterback of the future and so rather than answering questions each and every week. There are being somewhat of a distraction. The rest of your football team but I think also a message to Dwayne of okay. Here's the deal. You need to get ready. You need the be ready and prepared to go out and play and play at a high level each and every week in these what the expectations are for you as a starting quarterback in the National Football Tali at so. I think they need to do it. They'll still be somewhat difficult to evaluate him because of some of the situations you know there and we've seen some guys get better watching somebody else. The truth matter is find out if you can play or not by actually client yeah. This is a situation or decision that I felt should have been made once. You named him the starter for the Buffalo Bills Game. This shouldn't have been a thing where we're going to put him in pulling Glenn Beck. I'll see if we can start Cole McCoy or go with case keenum once you decided to go with the Wayne ask is. He's you're first round draft pick. You WanNa see if he's your quarterback of the future because as you will be moving on to a new coach and he may have to get his own guy and he's still a rookie so you the only way you're gonNA learn is on. The job is by going out there and doing it and I think they knew that is interesting that they waited until go bye week to do this. And and case keenum won't be the number two quarterback and Cole McCoy will be the third quarterback but he's shown Some glimpses in that last start. You see the arm talent. That's the one thing that that was. I don't think that's ever been concern listening to people. Call a game. When people people have obviously met with the team and have talked to the coaches and production meetings about this and they wanna make sure he he can call the play properly in the huddle call like say what what you want? There was a reason he wasn't playing and it was not because the physical ability. There was a lot of talk about him. Not Being Mentally Ready to play the game and and you have to at least give yourself a chance to succeed before the bolts. And if you're not doing that that's why you're not on the field the criticisms if you can call Oh them that wasn't about whether he was smart enough but they were interpreted that and I think Adrian Peterson and trying to explain and maybe defend himself last week or the week before. was He telling Dwayne it's time for you to get into the playbook in other words it was really learning how to be a pro. And that's what they wanted to do is learn how to be a pro in terms of how you prepare apparent when he's sitting there at number three and no one that play. I don't think he prepared like a guy who might start that week.

Did you see what his was yes sixty sixty six six so I thought when I I was aware of Zion early last year I thought he was six eighty and then duke list him at six seven and now they are officially listing him relisting him at six six Charles Barkley once upon a time was he was listed at six six say but he's probably six four and a half or something like that and it skipped it we have the career Charles Barkley had a hell of a career he's happy to be in the era when he called the tail end of Magic Johnson Larry Bird yeah but John Barclay newly of era had a hell of a career. Vp took a team to the finals. Right in Charles had ball skills see in this game where he get handle it shoot it off the glass you start shooting threes Lateness Korea but the only similarity there is Charles was always a little too heavy but but he was deeper for his girth and this kid here the leaper all he'll skip to eighty five that's too heavy I got it is going to happen skip these two eighty five eighteen yep I if I'm him I look I understand New Orleans cuisine down there skip but he looked allow her last impact on finding me a personal chef better and juries these won't take it'll take a man that size was wasn't bill when you get up and down the explosive jumping up and down like that yeah so I told you all along his best attribute to me is joy yes he plays it 'cause it's infectious and it fuels him on a nightly basis I think he'll play as hard as anybody in the Lille every dribble yes we're every night he's going to be being whatever he's got that I hope he doesn't become jaded by the process because eighty two's a lot of games lot of games and after about forty he's GonNa probably hit the rookie wall and I have to play again tomorrow night and halftime college season it is adds up quick who yeah and it takes a lot of wear and tear not only your body but on your site yeah you gotta you gotTa job now a real job you go to work and now you've got what did you do it as many times because you know in college practice got study hall Oh you got Janney you've got all the time is managed for you now as an adult you got a real job you've got to manage your own time how did how did he do that. "dwayne haskins" Discussed on First Things First
"It's hard to go into bill tech's off his if your position players say you know what i want top of the market money when t._b. Twelve and getting top of the market money so there are going to be more implications that that are affected by how jerry enzi take care of his business on point all right coming up. Let's say in the n._f._c. should rookie. Dwayne haskins start week one for washington. We'll discuss that next person. I get twain haskins in a second but first raiders packers in winnipeg winnipeg keelan dos makes the adjustment nice toe tap for the catch great back shoulder throw here by the quarterback defensive back when he gets ahead of the db on press press out side quarterback numbers things at the back of his numbers wide receiver makes a great adjustment. There ravens eagles fresh out of retirement. Josh mccown shows drop dimes times. He wasn't the only one last night trace mcsorley for baltimore. Ravens was lighten it up. We were really impressed to see him throwing the football and having that much success i. I hope we don't have to see josh this year. Is that means. My mom lives is hurt our lastly bengals giants damian willis great catch which despite the pass interference janoris jenkins no no don't pass in quarterback undoing me. He was a rout against covered up. The sideline to noise couldn't get his head back p._i. We'll want we want to catch their eye candy. That's what i'm trying to see. Why we make a plate man. Let's go onto onto join haskins now last night he played in his third preseason game lead three scoring drives in the second half however he is still behind case keenum in the quarterback battle. Here's askins had to say after last night's game player evidence new either way and i was always being encouraging all into the quarterback to the rest of team in there's not starting right as i can't like you said being great team may be a great leader. You know whatever that situation news. I wanna start with do or not up to meet for coaches but this is going to keep making it harder to keep in better everyday. Take care of yourself. See haskins is looked a little bit better each and every game this preseason off aww progression and the the quarterback they should be ahead of case should be ahead of the he should be colt. Mccoy's should be ahead of these guys have started games in the n._f._l. They've been with multiple n._f._l. Franchises so you have seen him make the adjustment made some mistakes by putting the ball in the defenses where they can get their hands on it. In the first game two interceptions air one. He made a bad read. Linebacker made a nice interception on the other one over through a guy into a seaman cornerback makes interception but you could see he can throw throw the football. He's got a big time arm. He looks like an n._f._l. Quarterback but they still even what we knew it will house eight. He's still very very young passer sir and he's only going to get better but you can see he's making adjustments getting the ball out of his hands allowing this playmakers but if you give him protection and you you run around the down the field he will few because he will throw it down the field so that part has been impressive. I think jay gruden is underrated especially as a quarterback developer. We always talk about jon gruden as quarterback developer. He hadn't developed any quarterbacks. Jay has and look at his quarterback stats year in and year out if the third wide receivers can make enough plays wants to got an injury last night there number one receiver in tight end jordan reed. He was hurting last night's game but if they're outside they can get some productivity..
Which college produces the best NFL talent?
"A special edition of N._F._l.. Live on deck today at the N._F._l.. Celebrates one hundred season just six weeks away however we are just five weeks away in college. Football Opens It one hundred fiftieth the anniversary so today welcome N._F._l.. You were combining the two worlds to answer age-old question what college produces the best n._F._l.. Talent however I'm Wendy net sand Hutus here you know what's better to be on this panel our expert notice icy expert telling me when Lewis Minute of her panter on the list not on the House for back the quarterback guru he and his brother in a lot of N._F._l.. Games James A lot and Ryan Clark. You see the L. L._S._U.. They are ills college football. L. Is Jonathan Vilma bike. He will join US shortly. He happened to win a National Championship and Oh by the way a super bowl as well coming up on N._F._l.. Live will break down position by position which college produces the best quarterback Oklahoma has the number one overall pick the last two years we have the top ten plays all the N._F._l.. Superstars when they were in college and answering big question which school produces the best all time N._F._l.. Talent we had to ask the players themselves to kick things off. We're the first pick quarterback Oklahoma Viva say Oklahoma Alabama Clemson because proven it is one atop factory the Ohio state highest in Alabama. 'cause I never lost beat out. You really can't understand it into your inside. Sadness programming is all about the you for N._F._l.. Because of Georgia in every aspect but I think L._S._U.. CRESA environment of gray competition and guys is trying to feed off of IT University of Pittsburgh. You Got Dorset. Dan Marina you got Larry. Fitzgerald was not a me show. It's about having everybody involved in working for the Sandal clumps in would cushman he's been doing. He's making people believe everything is possible for House is the best our stop it. Stop stuff well. Let's start shall we with the most players from each college currently in the N._F._l.. Alabama leads the way with V with sixty five players players followed by Ohio state in second place with fifty eight so we're going to debate these schools I in terms of who is best at producing N._F._l.. Challenge here's a tale of the tape on Alabama at Ohio state success since the two thousand draft folks tools I have had thirty one first round picks the most of any school while the Buckeyes have thirteen more total picks in the last twenty drafts but Bama's players have been slightly more successful in the league producing three more pro bowlers than Ohio St Louis Rick. Let's start with with the crimson tide. They're starting eleven if you will offense and defense current N._F._l.. Talent there's any question that these are both very impressive lineups that if Alabama can roll these teams out there right now now. I think they'd win a few games without a doubt. If you look at the offense aside outside of the ball the first thing that jumps out of these starting eleven are the two wide receivers look Julio. Jones is one of the finest athletes in the N._F._l.. For guardless of position he's in the news right now because he's about to get a new contract extension and he's really one of the he's one of the transcendent players at the position that this game the scene Amari Cooper the same way. When Amari came out of college? I remember doing his tape in thinking point honestly as far as catching one pet and run wide receiver. I hadn't seen one as good as him as him. In a long long time on the defensive side look they have fine players throughout the eleven here really that when you get to the secondary and you guys like Eddie Jackson Landon Collins I mean these guys are disband tastic players on the front dont`a hightower our multiple time superbowl winner. These are great great players right here. Make our way to Columbus shower of the to Ohio state you go to the offense side of the football. Look the first thing that jumps out without a doubt as Ezekiel Elliott because if he's not the best running back in the N._F._l.. He would be considered a top three running back in the N._F._l.. Wide Receiver Michael Thomas Really someone who was unheralded coming out of college. He's a tremendous tremendous. Pro will probably be the highest paid wide receiver in the N._F._l.. In short time then move over to the defensive side of the ball this this is where really this football team really kind of jumps off the board starting up Front Joey Bosa Cam Hayward those are two of the best defense alignment in the N._F._l.. Right now and then when you look down there at the Secondary Malcolm Dyson Dinkins Denzel Ward Marshon Lattimore doesn't let's get much better than that. All right Jonathan Vilma made his way again surly qualified to weigh in on this discussion. Look I mean there's a shortage of talent with either of these squads. It's almost ridiculous factory and a lot of ways both of these institutions but let the debate again a Ryan Clark. You can't pick L._S._U.. Just yet but when you look at this group what stands out L._S._U.'s better than both of these things we're gonNA get to that. We're supposed to be talking outlets. Let's be honest. There's amazing players. Neither one of them have a quarterback right before proven yet though little I mean why don't we always have to see something first before we can get you well Ray Richardson running back right you saw God compare that with you why time gentlemen we're GonNa play Nice Got Ninety minutes ago. You're the Glenn Difference from every other position that we're looking at okay fair enough now back to you Louis. It is a production results oriented industry. Is it not so it is fair to say seeing something. Does one believe they'll be success won't sure but I mean we're we'll see this is kind of like a combination of what they have done in college. What some of these guys have done in the pros in some of it's a little bit of projecting about what they're gonNA continue to do in the pros? That's how I'm going to expand it to that all right so at quarterback quarterback Dwayne Haskins I believe right now. There's no comparison as far as I don't care what A._J.. McCarron did it Alabama cows tape. Those Wayne has close exact Haskins is going to be a fine football player. What's going to happen to him? Really is going to be more predicated on what Washington redskins overall due to him then what he does to himself. I firmly believe that as far as these rousers overall look the wide receiver position Julio Jones Amari Cooper. Julio Jones's the standard if you go and look N._F._l.. For an offices and look in their scouting books books every team has a standard at every position that they put for scouts the suit for as far as whenever when their scouting people polio is going to be on that list for for many many teams he's about as good as it gets so skill positions at Alabama are awesome. The defensive players at Ohio State is what stands out for me as far as their front seven is concerned particularly their defensive line and their secondary Denzel Award Marshon Lattimore. You tell me a team that wouldn't take those two young men right now and startled. Let me ask you a specific question since you spend some time as an analyst watching these players at the collegiate level if you had to choose either of this group Alabama Ohio state who's players really got better or who took a bigger step forward than you anticipated when they got to the N._F._l.. Out To you to dance your last part no neither standout. They're pretty equal because watching these guys watching Jonathan Allen he played okay well Dante. I'll tell you knew who is going to be tremendous player defensive player C._J.. Moseley's same thing and then you go to the other side and you look at Joey Bosa Nick Bosa Darren like Malcolm Jenkins. I play with Malcolm Jenkins in in New Orleans knew he was going to be a study. He's Philistine but what is surprising how fast or House they defense is. I did not realize how fast defensive you think big ten you didn't big Brawley guys not so fast but these guys can move joey. Bosa also can move nick volks in Darren League. We know the Burner Malcolm J. Denzel War March. I mean that is a very very talented athletic fast fast defense. I thought I was going to jump in your rookie. I think that's a great question Wendy about as far as what teams teams have players that have gotten better pros. You look at Ohio state this look at their offense. In particular Michael. Thomas was a good wide receiver to hire Stayton. He's fantastic now. He's GonNa be highest paid wide receiver in the N._F._l.. Andrew Norwell most people wouldn't even know Andrew Norwell well what from Andrew Doorbell he right now just judge Moore Norwell can't open open some N._F._l.. Spectacular and even on the defensive side of the ball. I didn't think Marshon lattimore. I've liked Marshon Lattimore at Ohio state. I didn't love Marcet. He has taken his game to another level as well in the really own Alabama side you know how I feel about Alabama I feel nick and what he does and how he builds his program but really focus on their offense align that was just look okay and think about that question. Wendy Wendy asked how many players have gotten better how many have continued to improve Andre Smith may have his best days at Alabama. Dame's carpenter has really been good pro Brian Kelly the jury still out he could be a he's a good player. He's GonNa play already in Indianapolis D._J.. fluker was he ever ever really that guy that dominant guy no. He hasn't been Cam Robinson. Have you seen story so it's interesting because they're preventing people have been many people who've hit Alabama and said they get the best out of their players at Alabama. Maybe it's good discussion legal where people go by what teams there drafted so we look at Michael Thomas he falls into a place where he needs an accurate passer and he's one of the most accurate passers all the time also about the place you land in ashore and how they develop you ask Josh Rosen he absolutely he knows that all too well. I ten Hasselbeck. The whole point of this is to pick one of our producers here a little bit we talked. I'm going Alabama mainly change quarterbacks. Yeah I think looks great point about the offensive line at Alabama because so many of them when you look at them just in terms of body type you're like Oh my God look at those guys body type wise but like I don't know that some of those guys have come in and be like Oh and they got a whole lot better. We're obviously splitting hairs here on this ongoing Alabama Lewis Sorry Nick. Oh from a hustle change your mind or did you stick the way said one because I don't care if between Haskins hasn't played. I think he's I think he's in the saints. Stratosphere is A._J.. McCarron so I like that I liked it their offense of line one of the things that talked about how they develop those guys on the defense aside but they're fun four plus their secondary this going with them Ryan Clark you have to pick one while I was brought here for one reason in one reason only when the Knicks because everyone knew it my answers it would be and what Tim Hasselbeck has proven is. You don't need a quarterback. That's really he's GonNa be Ohio state in Alabama that don't have quarterbacks guess what we don't need a quarterback back and by the way you don't want our first off was good enough for Bill Belichick your boy to draft him as Tom Brady's heir-apparent draft. We thought they they went to L._S._U.. Because this guy has what they decided to we throwing the ball all around the field Andrew Whitworth he's played a thousand years. There's a Guy Jerry go look at the Neil hundred may has like negative two percent body fat Michael Broncos out. There aren't key. We gotta wait on them but it's are are you at the back of position. That's all we got mad. I gotTa get here all even have to work conviction when you spoke scissors. I'm sorry I just so tim. I love your twenty. Two question your toughness Whoa West I've seen because as you know what fair enough he's at Alabama alum landon dare you wait into the circus that we've created. But what do you have to say about this. Whole debate ain't Ryan got some good good good stuff going on say? I wouldn't question his toughness at all. I don't know why you questioned Ryan toughness. I saw him not got a lot of Alabama's always number one no matter Corolla tyrod. Let me ask you a serious question. You know obviously nick. Sabin is a hall of Famer one of the best ever coach this game but specifically what does he do that has allowed such historic success at the university. Steve Alabama <hes> as a coach he speaks for as a coach. He represents his players as players coach. I would say he makes all this coach. All the players are on the him as a player as a father <hes> <hes> and as a as many tried to teach us they'd be a man and a great play all at one time you know so he does it all leading. Can you please tell the people why you are now better that you have trusted your career training with the guy from L._S._U.. Hey right you agreed trying to grow been gone on gone for years

"I feel good at Michigan this year. It's Wong overdue. Do they have won three games in the last eighteen meetings with Ohio State, and that doesn't even count the game? They lost by thirty and twenty ten when that wind was vacated. They get a high. Oh state in Ann Arbor this year a lot back on offense gonna take some time to sort out their defense losing Sean Gary chase win of Devon Bush cetera et cetera. But I think they're in good shape. I'm excited to see what Ohio State looks like under Justin fields and especially with Ryan day. But Ryan day is not urban Meyer. He could be a great coach. But there's a reason that they say you don't wanna follow a legend. And I'm curious to see how he manages through a full twelve game slate as opposed to three this would be a good year. I I'm a believer in Dwayne Haskins being exceptional and a believer in Dwayne Haskins with time in that system being. Exceptional. Being a better situation than just fields coming in and expected to be Dwayne Haskins immediately. So I think it's a good year for Michigan to be great. And better and play like, they're better than Ohio states a house. Saints defense should be really good especially upfront this year. I'm sure Penn State fans. Remember chase Yang is still. There is still there tyreek Smith still they're still great. So I I'm still a believer that this should be the year. Should there be a year ever again that Michigan beats Ohio State? It should be this year, by the way, if you want a really spicy take. I'm so hungry. Hungry. Close out Michigan season. They are home against Michigan state, aka little brother, then on the road in Bloomington at Indiana before they come back home to square off against their hated rival Hieaux state. If that Indiana game is in an all time. Great letdown. Look ahead spot. I don't know. What is I don't know how good Indiana will be this year. But at least on paper in late April that looks pretty damn interesting to me somebody gave us there are ten teams and only ten teams or right around ten. There are maybe the same ten teams every year that can win a title. No other school has or will ever have a chance the top twenty five finished as such last year each of which had various points of the season. We're kind of threatening Clemson Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma Notre Dame LSU. Florida Georgia Texas are the top nine Washington state finish number ten outside of that top nine in terms of. Teams that have the infrastructure can amass the talent put themselves in a position to sneak in and get by whatever I think Michigan Penn State, and I don't know Florida. I don't know about Oregon. I don't know about Oregon. Would you say after Laura state? Yeah. Florida state. I think there's more than ten I think twelve I think there's more than twelve. AM is a team that can win a national championship. Yes. A special Andrew, JIMBO Fisher. Okay. He will put the infrastructure in place to make Virginia. No. I mean, I would say USC should be add to that list at their absolute best. But it's tough to for it in any sort of immediate future. UCLA I will say no, no, I think it's fifteen to twenty somewhere in that range. I think twelve to fourteen okay? One or two more. Okay. Here we go. How about this one tie twenty nineteen the twenty nineteen season. We'll be chip Kelly's final season as UCLA's head coach final season final season. The only way Charles chip Kelly isn't coaching in twenty twenty s if he leaves on his own volition. That's what I'm saying..
NFL Draft Rumors: Picks for the Raiders, Jets, and Giants
"Now. Let's get into the raiders because they are very very interesting. They've sent everybody away. It's like, it's like survivor. There's two guys on an island. You got Mayock. You got Gruden no one else is around anywhere near the organization right now. And I read something that they said for fear that you know, they're big plan. Could get thrown to the wolves. What what possibly could this dynamic huge groundbreaking attempt. Be for the Oakland Raiders got insane. As we heard everyone connected to them literally Quinton Williams Devon why at Oliver and now. The most recent name is to Wayne Haskins. Now, I know a lot of raiders spans laugh at thought of that. But this is where it gets really interesting division in Oakland right now is that there are coaches there that really liked main Haskins. They're also coaches there that are not sold their car is the future. So is Oakland sitting there four knowing that Wayne Haskins might fall into their lap or hoping he falls into their lap. There's a lot of rumors about that right now. Or are they trying to play someone to train up with the jets to Oakland gift Quinton Williams? That's kind of where I'm weaning right now. I do think they want the jets to get out of that pick in fear that if they don't the general take when Williams and that's been there guy all along. This is a team that needs stars on the defensive line because they traded Khalil Mack. They don't have any. I know they use a lot of picks Matt area last year. I think Mary's hers could be an okay player. PJ hall hasn't shown anything yet right now. So Oakland all options are on the table for them right now. And it's very very interesting. All right. So if Haskins goes three and Williams. Does four Naida Tampa at five with Devon white. And Josh Allen still on the board. I think it would be I think Todd Bowles, I know Todd Bowles pick their and Lee here when he was in New York that was Todd Bowles spic you want speed at linebacker. He wants leadership at linebacker Tampa has loved Devon white for months now. I think if he's sitting there at five they would celebrate with happiness that they didn't have to move to get him. So you were telling me now that the way we just went through the MacIntosh of the first five picks. There's a legitimate chance that my New York football giants are landing maybe an elite talent edge rusher. Sixth overall in Josh Allen. I wouldn't rule it out at all. I would not rule that out at all. They get the guy who originally originally from jersey. Now, the interesting thing was the giants here. I have a belief that they've Gettleman has done a really nice job for once here with the smokescreens. And that the giants wanna quarterback at six as much as we keep hearing. They are content taking one at seventeen there's not even the guaranteed that. There will be one is seventeen. I don't see how team can take that kind of risk. So who? Do you think he likes because you know, I'm based out of New York, and we try to break down the code every day. And we just we have no idea of what's going on half the time. Do you look at him and say he likes Jones, we've heard that lock. We've heard that everyone seems to be opposed. The fact that Dwayne Haskins if someone who's interested in then lately for the rumor keyed up and maybe Josh Rosen lands to the New York Giants at some point. Yeah. There's a lot of sect year. I think they, you know, obviously, Daniel Jones there was a lot of smoke around them taking him at seventeen.
NBA Draft 2019: Latest 1st-Round Order, Predictions
"And ladies and gentlemen, we have a new mock draft out Mel kiper Jr's three point. Oh is here with us. And we are looking forward to the draft. Mel will join us in just about an hour to talk about the new mock draft. But there have been some changes in the draft specifically one less quarterback. Now going in the first round then in mel's two point oh mock draft. So we have four in the two point oh mock draft with Daniel Jones from Duke rounding out of the last pick of the draft to the patriots in the first round of thirty two. There are only three quarterbacks now in the first round, according to mel's latest mock. And obviously a retirement might be a big reason why and the quarterbacks have changed as well. Right. As far as where they're they're going. Well, Cuyler he still has Tyler going number one derozan. Well in his last draft Cuyler going number thirteen to the dolphins. So now and this draft he hasn't going number one. He had. Dwayne Haskins going number six at a giant Kyle Murray. Going number thirteen to the to the dolphins. Drew lock going fifteen to the Redskins and Daniel Jones going thirty two to the patriots. So as you mentioned Daniel Jones now out of the first round, according to the latest mock draft by Mel kiper, just three quarterbacks Murray number one. The main says Dwayne Haskins at number six, and you start to hear reports that the giants may go defense was six and then was seventeen go quarterback. But right now twain Haskins at six and then drew lock sitting there at number thirteen for the dolphins. Does the only three quarterbacks in this latest first round. Yeah. Going to be very interesting because we know what the giants listen one thing. Dave Gettleman has made very clear he does not feel beholden to tell us his plan. And so I don't feel overly beholden to believe. A lot of what we're hearing coming out of the giants can't because if you've got a guy who's basic messages trust me, I got this. Well, then we understand he doesn't feel like he has to tell us the truth. So as we hear these things. Coming out. We also understand this time of year is about deception to an extent it's trying to manipulate the draft order trying to manipulate the opinions of certain players. So that you can try and put yourself in the best position to get the guys you ultimately want. So it makes it difficult to try and read the tea leaves it is although I have to say on cattlemans behalf. He said all of last spring saquon Barkley is a generational talent with the second overall pick. And that's where he went. Look, I think we all agreed. There has to be a quarterback in the giants future. Whether it's at six or seventeen trade now Cleveland, but it would not surprise me in the least if Dave Gettleman waited until the second or third round to take a quarterback this Dave Gettleman, he created that created, but he he made the term a more of a vernacular in the NFL draft hog molly's when he was the GM of the Carolina Panthers. He loves the big guys to hog mollies. And let's be honest. This draft is going to be decided outside of Kyla Murray. More than anything else about the big defensive lineman in this draft. The hog Molly is on the defensive side of the ball. So depending on your draft grades for your quarterbacks you could take one of those at six and then a quarterback at seventeen it all depends again on your on your draft great. If twain Haskins is highest on the board and draft grades. You don't pass that up. If you have a Dwayne Haskins drew lock. And whatever other quarterback equal in grades. You know, maybe use that seventeen pick baby can trade it up somehow to get one of those guys as I said, this always comes down to grades. Do. You have a choice amongst grades. Are you close enough in quarterbacks where if you don't get one you try and get the other? But we'll see we'll see, you know, one of the biggest changes in from the last two this for Mel was they had the patriots taken Daniel Jones a quarterback, and this one I serve Smith junior the tight end from Alabama going, and that would not be shocking at all you have really three out of the top tight end Hopkinson the kid from Iowa teammate, Noah Fant, and then Smith junior all three likely to go in the first round a three first round tight end to on the same team come on. And what would that tell you as we saw? The patriots jump into the first round and take a running back and Sony Michelle at the end of that. And now to see in the next year three tight ends going. We've talked about this. However, you want to split it. Last year were Quinton Nelson. Went in the top ten in the draft as an offensive guard. We saw roquan Smith going the top ten as a middle linebacker. The middle of the field is worthy. NFL is being built right now. And other teams are starting to catch up to what the patriots have done for years. The way that we've seen teams export that specific area and three tight ends in the first round would hammer that home not denying that. They are guys that are certainly probably more talented than usual tight end groups. We're used to seeing but it's also about value. It's why you see running back taking it to overall by the giants last year. I mean, the other thing is I think they're more interior linemen in this first round then quarterbacks right? Like, a not tackles guards and centers. There are more of those according to males latest mock than there are actual quarterbacks being taken which would be very unusual. So the top five in this new draft that Mel kiper put out is Kylie Murray. Number one of the cardinals Nick both the D N number two to the forty Niners. Number three. Josh Allen the outside backing backer pass rusher going to the jet number four Cornyn Williams. To the raiders and number five guy making a pretty big jump. Devon white going to Tampa Bay at five in the last mock draft he was number eleven to the Bengals now in mel's draft. He is sitting at number five number six twain Haskins seven Joon Taylor. The offense attack from Florida going to Jacksonville sweat, the D N going to the lions at eight Sean, Gary the D N going into the bills from Michigan and TJ Hopkinson. The tight end going to the Broncos at number ten. Here's here's what I wanted to talk to Mel about and one of the issues that I have laid on me big fella with with this draft comes, you know, some some point and one of them is there are few prospects in new first round projection who are making their debuts because of their combine performances. There are four guys who have jumped into mel's first round who weren't out there before again based on the combine combine performances. I don't understand that. I don't I don't understand that. If you wanna say. You looked at the combine to go back and look at tape of them. But to say, they're combine performance jumped them up that doesn't compute to me. Well, I think that's I think that's the assumption though, is because of their performance you went back and look and that. That's fair. That's why I want to ask them. How did this? Make you go back and study them more. Because if you're just basing things off the combine I got a real issue with that. Yeah. I I don't think you would do that or teams. But at the same time, you look at the positions of the majority of the players that would be involved in that. And I think this could be true for teams as well. It's interior offense. It is right. Three interior offensive linemen Terry McLaren the wide receiver, but when it comes to interior offensive lineman. You wanna talk about an area where the scouting grossly lags behind to actually great and overall draft. It's a difficult area for a lot of people to see and understand because you don't have the benefit of a lot of stats. You don't have the benefit of even the combine members necessarily always translating to production. So when those guys go and they paying and they flag in the model somewhere for what they do at the combine. And then you go back and spend some more time looking at a guy like Lindstrom who wasn't going to be a big name. He wasn't like, you know, Gary bradberry from North Carolina State won the Remington award this year. Like that guy was a stud Boston College was a middling. Okay. ACC team this year. So Lindstrom wasn't getting the credit. He deserved even being as good as he is. So you go back now, and even these NFL teams, maybe we're late to the party on some of these guys all of a sudden start giving them an extra. That's why I want to ask I just wanna make sure with Mel that because I'm just reading from the combine performance, and again, let's put a name. To those you mentioned McLaren the wide receiver who is one of the others. Chris Lynch reminder, you just mentioned from Boston College now. Number twenty one to Seattle Eric McCoy interior linemen going number twenty two to Baltimore. Right and the Garrett bradberry. The Senator from North Carolina State who is you mentioned one the Remington award is the best center in the country number thirty one to the LA Rams where they have an aging center, and John John Sullivan. And that was that was one of the things have been saying for the Rams the last couple of years that dynasties been built on the interior. If you land a guy like that good, Lord or you winning out it is. So we'll see how that plays out. Now, the one thing that I find interesting he he has drew lock the third quarterback Mel dozen his latest mock going thirteen in Miami. I'm telling you don't take out Denver at ten in Cincinnati of eleven in play for quarterbacks. I mean. Yeah. Denver made the play for Joe flacco. But John Elway has messed this up a couple of times with all due respect. I mean, that's just outside of getting Peyton Manning. He has not figured out the quarterback spot there at ten they might be in play for quarterback. And you have Andy Dalton with his situation with the Bengals and his contract situation. I, you know, I think that there's a really good chance that they could be in play with a quarterback there, by the way, by the way, Mel kiper Jr's mock draft not the biggest item related to the draft this week. That will have news for you guys. What more on that coming up later? This week
Dwayne Haskins Throws with Giants Attending Pro Day
"Lot of pro days going on this week twos. Day. A large giants contingent including defensive coordinator James Becher was at Alabama on Wednesday. The Ohio State pro day where Dwayne Haskins was of course, the center of attention was attended by another large contingent of giants representatives head coach Pat Shurmur couple of the scouts several of the assistant coaches there to check out, you know, the the many prospects, you know, that that attend Ohio State, and we're working out today. We heard that the giants also had had dinner on Tuesday night with Dwayne Haskins. I'm not sure what to read into all of that. I look at it. Like the giants are simply doing due diligence getting to know as much as they possibly can about all of these guys entering the draft. So and also on Thursday as I said coming up, the Missouri pro day withdrew lock. I would intimidate once again, a large contingent of giants representatives to be in Missouri to watch lock workout. So, you know, it's it's an interesting time. You think maybe there isn't a whole lot going on. You know, the the main part of free agency is done the draft is a few weeks away. But there are still things going on still lots of intrigue, you know. And you never know what's going to happen. You never know what Dave Gettleman might do. But an awful lot. You know, continuing to go on at this point in time.
Dwayne Haskins to Work Out for Raiders, Redskins, Giants, More
"Dwayne Haskins the giants who are being hilariously. Led by the GM. Dave Gettleman they met with Dwayne Haskins. They pick behind the Niners. So do the raiders the Broncos the dolphins and the football team from the greater Washington DC area. Those are teams that Dwayne that is being reported by NFL network where they are four teams that have meetings scheduled with Dwayne Haskins. So when we talk about the Niners in the draft who were sitting at number two. Moving back. You've mentioned this before Bob if there is a market out there for Dwayne Haskins. And they feel like they're teams like, you know, like the giants who are picking six or the raiders whatever to where they could prey on other teams desire to get Dwayne Haskins. Move back a little bit and make some things happen in that

Dwayne Haskins Throws with Giants Attending Pro Day
"The bucks twain Haskins he worked out all eyes were on Dwayne Haskins and have up this. So I I saw this on Twitter from arch Stapleton who I had all with me last week. He covers the giants for the nj record. He was watching Dwayne Haskins workout, and he said that in the middle of the workout. He saw what of Dwayne Haskins teammates Harris Hamble fall down during his route. What is Haskins dill on mmediately stops the drill runs over to him and checks in with them? He called that a quarterback moment, not a
Ryan Tannehill traded from Dolphins to Titans, shaking up the QB situation in Tennessee
"Good. And now, we don't know what the plan is. They have finally given up on Ryan tannehill who had seven years to prove that he could be a franchise quarterback. Now, he's out. Ryan Fitzpatrick is in with a two year contract reported base value of eleven million dollars that is peanuts is starting quarterback contracts. Go, but we don't even know whether he's going to be the starting quarterback. He may be the placeholder for whoever they end up within the draft and they had to sign somebody. They had to have somebody who was the plausible starter. So it is an obvious going into the draft that they're going to draft a quarterback because then at number thirteen they're going to get leapfrog by somebody for the quarterback that they want. So smart move to have Fitzpatrick smart move to have a guy who has played. Well. A he gets criticized a lot. But my God early last year he was spectacular. And he's better than whatever other options they had on the roster. So now, they have a bird in the hand. And we'll see what they do on draft. Yeah. That's right. I mean, there wasn't a lot of options out there in free agency wants city Brett teddy Bridgewater said no we knew they weren't going to bring back Ryan tannehill. So to what you're saying. Yes, I think it was a very smart decision to bring guy in like Ryan Fitzpatrick gives them some wiggle room. I mean, they are at number thirteen in the NFL draft certainly can be in prime position to get one of these quarterbacks. Maybe not Kyle Murray. They're gonna have to make moves if they wanna get Kyle Murray and get up to the first second third pick probably. But you know, does it Dwayne Haskins? Does it drew lock? Are. They around a thirteen. I think there's a good chance. I wouldn't have said that a few weeks ago. But I think as I sort through the draft more and more there is a good chance that I think one of those two might be on the board Jacksonville at seven. I don't think they're going to be dropped in a quarterback there this year. It's really about the giants at six right now as the. The team. That's really the obvious team that might be in the quarterback conversation. And I don't think there's any guaranteed. They'll take a quarterback at six. So the dolphins. Yes. You get this because you got a guy. Okay. We got our starting quarterback. Now, they can figure out what they want to do with the quarterback situation going forward into their future. And the thing with the Ryan tannehill deal. Look I thought they were just gonna cut him and they didn't need to keep them around. There's no guaranteed money in his deal as it stood before Friday, but they found somebody who would take him in trade. But that team wanted the dolphins to pay part of his salary. Even though the dolphins were on the hook for nothing guaranteed. So audibly what the dolphins did they dumped Ryan tannehill. And they bought a fourth round pick in twenty twenty five million dollars because they're paying five million dollars of Ryan tannehill new salary of seven million fully guaranteed. The titans. Get a backup quarterback for two million dollars. And Ryan tannehill better than Blaine gabbert, they were gonna play gap pay gabbert a million and a half. Right. I'll pay two million to tannehill. Because if. Pantyhose healthy. He's not horrible. He's actually pretty good can't stay healthy. But you only need to be healthy one or two games in the full year. And think about it if they had a better backup last year. Chris when Marcus mariota missed a couple of games. There are a playoff team. No. Exactly, right, Mike. I'll sit here and say, I'm not so sure Ryan ten hills not better than Marcus mariota. They're very similar. So it makes sense for Tennessee to get a guy like ten and he'll be the backup quarterback. They're both very good athletes who play quarterback. That's what I would say about the two guys. I mean can run they can do the read option the bootlegs play action passes

"The quarterback situation is the one right now, that's in the news constantly, the one that has all of the questions surrounding it. What is the future of Eli manning? What will the giants do in the draft? Will they look to replace ally? You know with a veteran placeholder, you know, while they look for their quarterback of the future today a little bit later. We're going to be joined by Patrick may horn of SP nations, Ohio State website land grant holy land. Patrick, and I recorded a. Russian about Dwayne Haskins the house Ojo state quarterback who's considered to be the the top quarterback available in the upcoming draft class will play that for you a little bit later rate. Now, though just wanted to talk a little bit about the giants options going forward at quarterback in two thousand and nineteen. I still believe that as long as he wants to play that did giants intend to bring ally manning back next season. And at this point, I believe that remains to be their best short term option when it comes to veteran quarterbacks. I there's a lot of interest in Nick foles of the Philadelphia Eagles have written at big blue view. I simply don't think that's a realistic option for the giants fact is even if the eagles decide that they wanted to trade foles. Why would they move foles too? To a team within division. Not to mention the fact that why would the giants turn around and give several draft picks to the eagles. That would help the eagles set themselves up for even more future. Success a deal between those two teams just doesn't make sense. And really neither does the idea that the eagles would allow foles to become a free agent. I simply don't see that happening. Not when they could be able to trade foles, you know for draft choices for things that can help them in the future. I seriously doubt they would just allow foles to walk away. Another option. People can consistently talk about his teddy Bridgewater, and considering the Bridgewater hasn't played in three years. I'm just I'm not convinced that Bridgewater is a guy that you can build around. He was not impressive in the one game. He played at the end of the season. For the New Orleans Saints, and we can't make a definitive judgment off of that. But the thing about Bridgewater is that even if you sign Bridgewater. I think you need to go into the draft. And find yourself a plan b because I'm just not convinced at this point. Teddy Bridgewater is a long-term answer the third name that keeps coming up is Joe flacco of the Baltimore Ravens. It's apparent that. The ravens are going to move on from flacco with Lamar Jackson having taken over that job in Baltimore thing about Flaco. When I look at it, though, it only makes sense to me to bring flacco to the giants. If he li- manning were to retire. Simple reason that flacco. Yes, he's younger than manning. But he's basically the same quarterback. He's an older quarterback. Not really a mobile quarterback guy who. Probably in my view at this point is probably not even as good as Eli manning at this point. So any is also more expensive than than ally. If you look at their two thousand and nineteen cap hits. So that one doesn't make sense to me unless the giants are in a situation where ally manning decides he does not want to play in two thousand and nineteen. There's no way I could see the giants going out and intentionally replacing manning with flacco, at least that's not something that I would do. So you know, that leads us to to the draft..

"Or not Dwayne Haskins is their next season urban Meyer won't be and when the dust settles in history looks back on urban Meyer. What will be said ESPN analyst, David Pollock is one of the best coaches of all time urban Meyer that was a guy that's had complete tunnel vision. He's a guy that's been what are the best motivators one of the best psychologist. I've ever been around. Just an innovator of football. You talk about some of the stuff he was doing with Tim tebow when he came into the SEC wasn't vogue, and you can't run your quarterback. And you can't do that cute stuff that you can do at other conferences come in. And have a lot of success. So one of the winningest coaches of all time, one of the best coaches of all time one of the best motivators of all time. What are the best big game coaches of all time? And I think everybody's also gotta remember the end at Florida in the end it Ohio State, and that's part of your legacy. But there's no denying on the field. What he's been able to accomplish in. It's been really special David all infield. What does it tell you that he continuously said this week as we see his exit now? And if I didn't have somebody like Ryan day, you bet your bottom dollar. I'd be back in Columbus. Well, I I compare this situation very favorably to Bob stoops a couple years ago with Lincoln Riley. I think he knows what he has in Ryan day Ryan day had an opportunity a year ago to go take another college opportunity to go be an offer to coordinator with the Tennessee titans. He had those opportunities. He knows what listen urban Meyer is not lying when he talks about Ohio State, and what this program means to him. And what is meant to him over the years? I think he wanted to leave this program in great shape by picking Ryan day as the successor and understanding what he's gonna do. He leaves the programming great hands. And he knows this program is going to be very successful that he talks about a lot that he loves a lot that he's grew up idolizing wanting to be on this stage coaching that team. So I think that he left it as good as he wanted it left. He wanted to leave it better than he founded. I think he's doing that. No question David for a kid from ashville Ohio for your last game to be a Rose Bowl win. That's gonna mean something being from the midwest here in Georgia. Boy. So let's bet a coke on this. He says he's not coming back Damon. But in your opinion, even watching this sport for a long time. Do you truly believe? He is coached his final game at any level of the sport. I think he believes he's coached his last game. I think he understands that this health is a priority. Urban Meyer has always been a tunnel.

"Dwayne Haskins grades. Gotta be careful just in terms of the awareness of worries out on the field and the clock in where they're at. I know they haven't had to use a time out yet standing right next door and Maya right now, you need is staying on top of this headlines men to make sure he looks to him after each and every play on whether or not he wants to call a timeout. He's communicating with two he's actually outside of the coaches box. Asking stakes the snap. Short set. Looking right. Throws righty spot inside the five close to the goal line. And not into the end zone is Ferrell. But the clock will stop with eighteen seconds left to get rid of the chains. It'll be first and goal on the Washington. One already an eleven point lead for the buckeyes. And now they use a timeout. This has just been a masterfully executed two minute drive. When Washington makes the mistake of throwing the ball three consecutive times under a minute change. And you get the ball back with a minute yelling out to go. Fifty fifty five yards. It's been executed with perfection and precision underneath throws that ditch you into a rhythm. Get the drive started. You try to stretch it a little bit. Take advantage of the blitz and the aggressiveness from Washington on the left side. You get an isolation. You throw it in the end zone. You get a fresh set of downs because of the pass interference. And it'd be deflating to Washington gives up touchdown here. The final seconds after doing a pretty good job in this Ohio State offense today. Askins on this Dr three or three thirty eight yards. I go on the one Haskins and a pistol Dobbins right behind him got tight in the backfield is well snapped the Haskins space. The Ron quick throw awkward touchdown virus. Sean berry well-designed beautifully executed, and it's twenty two three Ohio State with fourteen seconds to go and a half just an incredibly efficient two minute. Drive to steal six point seven points. Coming after they convert the extra point just really well executed there too. That was a heavy run. Look, they showed run inside. They slip Rashad berry out into the flat on the right hand side easy throat for the right handed quarterback his third touchdown of the game. And the extra point try is on the way. And it is good Dwayne Haskins is thrown fifty touchdown passes this year as a first year starter in his fourteenth game of the season. And the buckeyes lead twenty one to three with fourteen seconds to go in the half. Askins finished third in highs. Voting. He's the big ten offensive player of the year. If he leaves Ohio State and goes to the NFL could be the first quarterback selected and just watching this game. You you see how well coached Ohio State has offensively with urban Meyer and Ryan day. He'll be Meyer successor going forward. And you wonder if asked us control fifty touchdown passes this if he comes back to college next year, what's he gonna do seventy-five? Right. That's the goal. I look at this too. And he's working against a secondary. That is as good as any in college football. I mean, if you look at Byron Murphy and Miller the miles Bryant they're working at the nickel spot with Taylor rap. Joe Joe McIntosh? I mean, that's the strength of this Washington defense, and they have not been very strong against the third place finisher in the Heisman Trophy race. Fifty touchdown passes for Haskins the sixth to do that. As the kickoff was not fair. Caught by grew decides to run it knee gets only to the twenty four yard line with nine seconds to go. Does Chris Peterson bring out a little Boise state magic here with a little shovel pass.

"What's good discussions it again here from Dwayne Haskins to attack a by law and Cuyler Murray before they sit down there at the play station theater in New York City. You guys kind of mentioned it a little bit with Dwayne Haskins. Having to take this team on his back, given the defensive issues is the highest been becoming more playoff Centric. Whereas if you miss out on the college football playoff your chances of winning the Heisman made diminishes especially as years go on and we get deeper into this thing, it's hard for me to say that given that Lamar Jackson won it just two years ago. And I realized that if if either Cuyler Murray or two wins it tonight, and we expect that one of those two will that you're looking at a four four out of five years the Heisman winner was someone who ended up in the playoff and even before the playoff. Johnny Manziel, Texas A&_M didn't win their own division RG three years before that Baylor. They didn't win the big twelve. So I think I think Heisman voters have stepped up and looked beyond just the best player on the best team now. And Matt I would also say that that this whole, you know, being a quarterback, or at least a one of the best players on a really highly ranked team is something that preceded. The playoffs. Sure. I mean, you can go back into the seventies and eighties and see a whole lot of that with Heisman voting. I'll tell you this, you know, and I don't know whether we're going to hear more of this after the playoff, but I know in recent years, it's become a topic. Which is the question of should they wait until after the entire season is over to vote on the Heisman because there have been some seasons where the guy who finished second outperformed the winner during the bowls and or playoffs and people say, well, you know, if they'd waited to all the games were played we might have had a different winner. Well, one of the things that I think is unfair about that is because I think it would tilt it even more in the favor of the ones who are in the playoff because I think if you go out and and not only shine in his semi-final, but get the opportunity to play a second game in a national championship. And on that stage. It's going to be even more difficult for someone to win who is not in the playoff. And and that that would be one argument. I would have guessed waiting. The first Heisman finalists joining us here at the college game day Heisman finalists Audi SPN radio and the ESPN app may not be participating in the college football playoff. But he sure put on a show and the big ten championship nearly five hundred passing yards Dwayne Haskins the quarterback for Ohio State, Dwayne. Appreciate you joining us here on ESPN radio. I cannot imagine a a Heisman finalists that has had a more incredible week ups and downs leading up to the ceremony. You win the big ten get to the Rose Bowl. No plow, then your head coach urban Meyer retires new head coach is named. How would you just describe? But the last seven to eight days have been like for you. Yeah. It's been definitely different. The be able to win. I wanna championship game. And then beating the finalists in the very next day. Coach has not come back for the following season retiring, but. I'm excited for co day and his opportunity and I'm excited for the rose bows, granddaddy of them all the best games of all time. Even though he didn't make the playoffs. You know, we saw a successful season. So I'm just very excited. Dwayne what was your expectation personally coming into this season? You had backed up J T Barrett who had been an incredibly successful quarterback at Ohio State. And I know there was a lot of optimism coming in from a lot of people that how you perform. But how did it go compared to what you were expecting? Yeah. For like a match online stations are not exceeded them. I know JT you set the bar really high for me. And I appreciate all the tools. They gave me the season.

"They're not talking trash or hitting each other ten yards out of bounds. And then when they're done playing the game, they stand there at attention and respect one another's song. I mean, it's just it's it's. It's it's it's what it's supposed to be about. And it's a great reminder of what it's supposed to be about her chills, man. Every time. We talk about absolute love it. So the March the man enjoy it all quick thought, you'd be ten seconds Heisman who do you think man, tough call to runaway leader, and depending on how many the voters over nine hundred voters held on to their vote until the final weekend. Cuyler Murray did some things we've never seen averaging over three hundred yards passing over sixty yards. Rushing has never been done. And he did that. And you cannot sell what he accomplished short and to what he did Dwayne Haskins the year that he had he broke every Ohio State record every bid big ten record. So any of these three guys competed in any other year? You know, they they they win the trophy. And now they have to all three go against each other. Just getting there for these three hell of an accomplishment. I have I mean, you would have said to after the. I ten or eleven weeks. And then, you know, I think I think Cuyler Murray has a real shot to win it, and we will see its its first time in a long time. I go into New York, not really knowing what they're going to say when they opened up that envelope. It's I think it's been a long time since we really did know who's who is more likely going to win it. We never know until they open the envelope. But you always had an idea. I have no idea. What what it's going to say. So I'm actually looking forward to seeing how this ceremony goes until you went after watching color in person thought to in person against LSU, man. I flipped my vote for the debut. Bryan. I went Cuyler and then to just on the entire body of work, and I've caught in holy hell for it from Alabama fans. Imagine. Right. It's not about what to didn't do about. What column did do so urban Joe the weekend, man? Enjoy army navy. It doesn't get any better. I mean, you know, me I emotional over that game. I love it. Yeah. We talked actually broke. Thanks save. You got a lot of coming up, man. Thanks. But yes, sir. Thank you. Thank you for listening to herb screen. "I know we've got a lot of options and we've got three really great finalists. But for so long. It seemed like such a foregone conclusion. And for a very obvious reason. That's now been blurred because of injury if we if it automatically comes down to it. I think you look at two things, and it's going to be very interesting, Alabama style of football may singlehandedly have either one jail excuse me may have single handedly one to a tongue lower the Heisman, and Alabama's style of football may have singlehandedly lost it for him at the same time. So the three Heisman finalists were named yesterday. To a Tonga vilo being one of them Cuyler Murray from Oklahoma being another. And Dwayne Haskins the Ohio State quarterback rounding out the final three. So yet another year we will have a quarterback win the Heisman Trophy because this isn't about finding the best player in college football. Just the one that throws the football. And is the best bat story for another day though, rant for another time. When we look at this grouping. It's really. You're splitting hairs. However, you want to hand this award out. If you wanna give it to Cuyler Murray, you're going to reward the most exciting player in college football, a guy who every time he touches the ball because of his other world ability. We talked in the last segment about Darren sproles and him being back on the field for the eagles last night. And what a special player he's been in the NFL Cuyler Murray is Darren sproles playing quarterback Tyler Murray now as a wonderful arm and has put the ball and a lot of great places, and we can get into some of his QBR numbers that are record shattering in college football in their own right? But when I think of Kyle Murray, I think of that. And I also think of the ability to never take a direct hit the ability to always find the edge, even on a field full of the other best athletes in college football. That's who that guy is on the other side, I big of Tonga by lower. And when I say, the Alabama style of play sing. Handedly got him into this Heisman conversation. I mean, this guy took a school and an offense that for so long had operated. One way Alabama lines up. They're going to get four yards and a cloud of dust. Their quarterback is not going to turn the ball over not gonna lose them the game. And they're going to just slowly squeeze you to death on offense, and they overhauled that entire system because Tonga vilo was so good. So dynamic an so adept at pushing the ball down the field that they their hands were tied. They had to adapt this to the other world these skills that they all knew existed behind closed doors last year, and that we all got introduced to win the national championship game. System because I'll tell you the second why I think Alabama style play also singlehandedly may have given this award Cuyler Murray. But for more on just how close this race is former album quarterback and current USPS college football analysts, Greg McElroy Islas flip-flopping between Tyler and what Kyle is done statistically is absolutely ridiculously so explosive until I don't want to be a prisoner of the moment. I don't wanna be someone that evaluates only the SEC championship performance because I look at what he did against great defenses like Mississippi State and LSU and just how efficient he was throughout the course of the regular season. So I waited to the eleventh hour, and it was such a difficult. Call for me, I cannot reveal that publicly, but I can see very easily. How people are wavering from Cuyler to two and kind of fending on how the wind blows first. And.
