"Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly has been suspended eight games by Major League Baseball for throwing a fastball near the head of Houston's Alex Bregman. And mocking Lee taunting Astro star Carlos Correa. That game marked the first time the teams had met since it was revealed. Houston stole signs in route to a 2017 World Series title over the Dodgers. Kelly was not a member of that Dodgers team, but he was a member of the Red Sox in 2017 a team that also lost to the Astros. In that postseason. Kelly has appealed his punishment. Ella manager Dave Roberts was suspended for yesterday's game, and Astros manager Dusty Baker was fine. Dodgers won the game last night and swept that

Benches clear in first Astros-Dodgers game since scandal

"Last night's Houston Astros Los Angeles dodgers game got a bit heated. The teams jawed at one another and the benches cleared after Dodgers Reliever Joe Kelley through a couple of pitches that the stroz perceived as intentional being balls. This was the first meeting between the two teams. Since the Astros signed stealing scandal came to light the dodgers were the team the Astro's beat in the two thousand seventeen world series. I cannot repeat some of what was captured by microphones during last. Night's broadcast but one of the voices expressing colorful language was that of Astros Manager Dusty Baker who learned yesterday he will be back as manager next season. The Astros Tuesday picked up the option on his contract for twenty twenty one. The STROZ also picked up contract options for pitching coach, Brent Strom and third base coach Gary Pettus.

"Scans are taken at this at this point and you try not to listen to it even though you know that you hear it united just one more challenge for you in a professional career that began in nineteen sixty seven when almost as long as I've been alive Nineteen sixty seven when you drafted by the braves. And I thought you were a particularly good person to talk to you about the current situation because you have been involved either as a player coach or a manager in every work stoppage. We really had and that includes More than a half a dozen about a half. A dozen work stoppages the earthquake World series also. Nine eleven I guess the the best thing to start with would be the nineteen eighty one Strike which baseball lost about two months. You were an outfielder for the dodgers. You were actually an all star that year and About two months lost and then of course in in one thousand nine hundred four The strike ended. The war ended the season. There was no world series. And you didn't even know until you know about a week or two before the two thousand five series. I'm sorry nineteen ninety. Five series actually began that you actually be playing baseball. So those are the two really long layoffs Let me briefly going back to nineteen seventy two. That was the very first baseball strike very first baseball work stoppage and only lasted about ten days. Or so what? What are your recollections of that and sort of the reaction of players How they coped with it really not knowing when they would resume down for me. That was my first full year. Now's my roommate. Ralph God's second full year and you know we rented sleet in the in the in the Marriott You know we pulled our money together. Figured it'd be over in a couple of days Hank Aaron was urging us to the workout. And you gotta come to practice workout. Well we didn't. I figured out last out a team and then We're GONNA sleep for two days and then our money ran low than we were in a double room For a couple of days that money really ran out in the next move we moved to our Buddy Johanns one bedroom apartment at Ralph and I had to flip for the for the The cows and the other had to sleep on the floor and then we expect churches. Ticking every day and you know be ran out of money and then They said Hey. Get back to work your plan. We opened.

Sign-stealing didn't impact games: Astros owner

"Astros owner Jim crane at this a press conference yesterday wants to move on from everything in the sign stealing into twenty twenty we cannot change the actions of the past but we are fully committed and moving forward in the right way now he had the comments about not believing that what they did have any impact on the games then would say well I didn't say that even though we did say it towards the end of one of the reporters I did challenge him in terms of always trying to say or not say how is it that it doesn't affect competition so then what are you guys apologizing for were put apologizing because we broke the rules what is inside stealing a distinct advantage for the header so doesn't automatically into competition it it could possibly do that it could possibly not that's around free pretty bad and this is just the beginning probably well he's not going to speak again right now there's yeah I mean that of course but I mean the the gym crane was around one really botched it yesterday right and the last one I wanted to hear from was dusty Baker there was no reason I had a need to be there he's he's still a matter he's basically taken over he's got a you know get the thing straight off with a win with him but there was no reason for him to go on and on and on and on yeah if she's as Justin Verlander spoke he says are bad we cross the boundary I think you know we broke the rules and we're sorry now what was his reaction when he realized what was going on as the you know judges everybody the cheats and now his team was doing it you know I don't wanna get into any specifics you know I think we're here today to to to apologize and as a team and you know I think this means were expressed by hi everybody here today Hey did I mention he didn't do enough looking back I can't I can't go back I can't reverse my decision you know like I said I wish I had some more and I didn't catch that I'm sorry here's basically all admitting it they all did right there always like after al Tuesday and brakeman word gas herbal in the press conference they were good with the media their water about breaking the **** out to they was good with the media there after so was Springer and Corey here is George Springer who says yeah our bad luck messages clear no we regret everything the amount of a remorse is very very apparent and and then the third with a very very obvious here was qureia he was asked about the the idea that they were using buzzers smaller or anything to the same team nothing was in nineteen nothing seventeen the way where to buy this either loses and side on the report yeah what was in the report is

"dusty baker" Discussed on The Lead

"The Astros needed to cheat but yet here they were with this complicated scheme that let guys know what pitch was coming so for Dusty Baker. I think the on field managing is going to be the easiest part you know. Let Justin verlander go out there and throw one hundred twenty pitches. Don't let Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve do what they do. Best drive in runs get on base be absolutely Pesky to the opposition. I think managing what happens outside of the game. The the media questions that are gonNA come all year The things that are going to hear yelled at them from the crowd the fact that you know they may get hit with a few too many unintentional pitches this year. That really have a purpose that to me is going to be the biggest challenge dusty Baker faces do they retaliate. Do they get get in. Onfield melees with other teams or or do they move past this a different way. Ember do you think that dusty is just here as a a short term steward like to come in for a year whether the storm and then they'll move on to someone else. It certainly seems like with the way. His contract is structured. You know initially word broke out. It was two years and you're like Oh okay. Now it's only one year guaranteed with an option for the following year so now it looks like he's just going to be the guy to deal with the media storm to let this all kind of fizzle out over the next season but he's also expected to win because like I mentioned mentioned. This team is built to win now. Their farm system has kind of been pillaged over the years and now as part of their punishment they're going to lose draft picks. So there's going to be very dark period in Houston Astros baseball on the horizon but the way that contract is structured. It looks like Jim Crane has kind of already tipped his hand hand right. He doesn't want to be kind of backed into anything more than one year. which for a manager is a is a lot of uncertainty A lot of guys guys wouldn't accept that kind of deal but this is a very unique situation here. This is dusty Baker's last stop and very few managers get to step into a team they could win the world series and you know dusty Baker. He's already accomplished so much in his career. Both as a player and as a manager. And if you listen to him I'm in some of his recent interviews. He's really been enjoying his life after an excellent can't house retirement lie to you. It's been pretty nice actually and I could see my son play a lot and I've gotten to see like different universities. Different stadiums minor league stadiums. Still do some work with the giants you know. Life's good. So why does he want this job. I think when you look at this job this is never. We're GONNA come around again. This is not a group that you get to just step in and manage so the opportunity for that combined with the fact that this is it. This is the Mount Everest for Dusty Baker. He has never won a world series. He's never managed a world series winner. And that's always kind of been the one drawback on this terrific resume right. He's been through all these teams. Most of them have gotten better in that. You know the following year that he was there. He's is one league pennants Tsk. He's managed some of the games greats but he's never been able to win the world series and I think for a guy like that you just don't want to end it that way you just don't WanNa ended ended the way ended it in DC. We lost game five and you know kind of the rug was pulled out from under him. I think what happened in. DC left a bad taste in his mouth and and he's always wanted that one more chance at a world series and this comes gift wrapped. We'll Brit thanks so much for speaking with me. "This Thursday edition and I feel like I always say this on Thursday but I don't know I guess Thursday edition just rolls off the tongue really well for me. I am your host Josh Josh Strickland. And it's been a weird week. Obviously I mean it's Super Bowl Week so obviously most news Usually most news is is going to be inconvenient to the Super Bowl. There's usually nothing but the super bowl talk about which I've mentioned before Sunday is is the big super bowl show episode that I'm going to be doing where I will talk about talking about the chiefs season. I'll talk about four nine or season talked about their matchup against each other. I'll talk about prop bets. I'll talk about halftime shows and one other topic you'd probably Super Bowl related. We'll find out I. I'm still working on that last topic but I mean this week has been so weird just because of the Kobe Bryant tragedy. That happened Sunday. So there's really not a lot like the sports world is still shocked now. A lot of stuff going on but I still have some stuff to talk about for instance just right before I hit record on this podcast. The Houston Astros have finally hired a replacement manager. And if you don't know the Houston Astros have been going through some turmoil from all this off season and the baseball offseason. They were under investigation for signs dealing accusation that turned out to be true where they used a video camera to steal signs breath video camera from the center field from Centerfield fence to steal signs and they would bang a trash can and there's a huge investigation about it and AJ J. hinch guide a suspension a year long suspension. But the Astros decided just. Can't him so the now in a managerial bill. They're looking for a manager and they have found their guy and this guy cannot be any opposite of what the Astros look for more. So the Astros if you besides the science ceiling thing the astros are a very analytical they use analytics they use technology allergy to their best advantages. And like I said it. Besides the Cameron Centerfield they use a lot of different technology to help them figure out. What's what's the best lineup? What's the best way to position our players when a batteries up stuff like that like? What's the best pitchers to throw to some? They're very analytical they use analytics especially actually use these new new thing advanced metrics. That baseball is falling in love with for the past couple of years. So why does that matter. Why does that matter manager managerial search so you would think they would go for a kind of a new school guy which they you did with? Aj hinch but I guess the Astros were kind of like we just need to weather the storm here. We need to lay low for a while. You know like the old days when someone would rally bank. There's gotTa laid low for a while. That's pretty much what this is. They hired dusty baker if you don't dusty Baker is he's former San Francisco giants science manager former Chicago cubs manager former Cincinnati reds manager and former Washington most recently Washington nationals manager. And the best way I can describe scribe dusty Baker to someone who does not know anything about dusty. Baker is that he is incredibly average incredibly incredibly mediocre he. He knows how to get a team to the playoffs but he does not know how to win the play offs. So let me let me describe this to you. So when he started managing the San Francisco versus go giants in Nineteen ninety-three at the forty four. His first season they went one of three fifty nine one zero three and fifty nine but they didn't win. They didn't win world series or anything like that ninety four they went ninety four which remember is a shortened year fifty five and sixty shorten year short season than the next year. He went six seven. Seventy seven sixty eight ninety four and ninety six ninety seventy two but they got swept in the in the postseason. They lost three straight games and got swept in ninety seven and then they move onto ninety eight which they went eighty nine seventy four than eighty six seventy six that the year two thousand they would ninety seven and sixty five. They won a a postseason game but they still lost the series three two one then. Two Thousand One hundred seventy two didn't make the postseason then in two thousand two thousand five hundred sixty six. They won the pennant went to the world series and then lost the world series so then the giants decided decided move on dusty. Baker became the manager of the cubs. were his first year at the cubs. Two thousand three. Which is the famous year where the cubs curse was in full affect? They went six and those in that postseason. But they lost They lost because of a foul ball supposedly only a foul ball being caught by someone should not have caught it. But that's not the reason the loss in case you're wondering so he's with four years they don't make the postseason for the rest of the timing's there then. He moves onto the Cincinnati reds and with the reds there. Okay I mean they. They only went over five hundred three three times with dusty Baker. Their best season was two thousand twelve with they went ninety seven sixty five loss in the first round of the playoffs playoffs. Two three two and then two thousand thirteen. He went nine hundred seventy two and lost in the wild card game because I think that was the one of the first years at the wildcard target is implemented and the one game face off wildcard game. So there you go and then he got he got fired from there. Air moved on from there and he was kind of in limbo for the rest of for a couple of the Washington nationals decided to hire him and this is a national team with Bryce Harper national team with Max Scherzer. They're ready to win right now. They need to win a world series. They're expecting to win a world series and dusty. Baker is a is a experienced manager to kind of weather the storm of this clubhouse that nationals have so what does he do he goes ninety five and sixty seven and twenty sixteen and losing the first round the playoffs then twenty seventeen and when ninety seven hundred sixty five and lose in the first round the playoffs as you know the Washington sports curse which broken by the capital's Washington capitals and then broken by the nationals. Just your later I think the nationals of course won the world series so there you go the the best way I can describe him is that he is a pretty average coach. That will get you to the postseason but don't expect to win. That is the best way I can explain it to you the Astros. They have good enough team where they can easily make the postseason Amar who they hired at manager by feel definitely more of a move to kind of weather the storm a little bit they know dusty Baker can control a clubhouse and they know he can make sure things are. He's very old school guy. So there's not going to be any any cheating any electronic cheating I suppose. He's a three time manager of the year. So you know can't really can't really say he's terrible but he's extremely average. He's got a five thirty two. Win Loss Record Win. Loss percentage of for his whole career. He's he's managed thirty five hundred games so he's got the experience I think he's experience in making sure club. Houses are under control and I think that's the main reason the astros hired him. Do I think it's a good higher if you WANNA win world series. It's not a good higher to be honest just the way. Dusty Baker has been in his career as I told you he's been to the world series once he's only won one. He's won a couple of divisions so good for him but when you're the astros you're kind of been win now mode especially with the fact that all of those players are kind kind of tainted now in the world of Major League Baseball and pretty much the only place. They can't play the Astros at the moment. Which of course that will blow over? If Jose Altuve they wanted to go somewhere where someone would probably get them if for lander decided to leave somewhere else before he retired someone probably pick them up so of course yeah but Yeah Interesting Interesting Cau- for the Astros interesting call. It's very safe move like I said it's a very very safe bet especially with that team so dusty Baker hail to the average so when we come back we will be talking about. We'll be talking more baseball. We'll be talking about Moody Bets and the fact that he will probably get traded by the Boston Red Sox. You can't see me but I'm dangling from helicopters applies to the layer of an evil villain but all I can.

"Life back in. GSM See Baseball podcast. I'm your host Lucas more dusty Baker to manager the Astros good decision in Houston. I love the move. I'm excited to see what dusty can do in Houston with a highly talented and demeans. Still the favorite in the American League West asked Houston Astros should be a fun season for them. Hopefully more fun than all this cheating stuff. I think it'll turn around boy. Would it be rough in the Astros. Were not successful this year. A lot of bad headlines be rough to swallow for the people in Houston honestly for the baseball community and for me a person that said this cheating scandal. Hasn't been so impactful. It's going to be hard for me to make that argument. If the Astros completely fall on their face this year and Fall well below their your expectations of what their personnel should be. The cubs last season fell well short of expectations for what this roster could be. It went from in two thousand sixteen. Are we on the cusp of a dynasty in Chicago the third largest city in the United States the most popular teams in the world have have figured out their minor league system have gotten star. Players have used money on free agents and they're ready for a big time world series stretch. Where not only will they break the curse the wind two or three? We've went from that to the cubs. Were just an eighty four win team. They did not get better. In fact they got worse over the off season and now they're considering during trading their star third baseman especially because they just won the grievance case and have two more years of team control of Kris Bryant Shaky Times on the north side of Chicago. So what does this mean. So what was this grievance about first and foremost.

"Yes big. Welcome in Golden State media concepts baseball. PODCAST I'm your host Lucas more and fairly big day actually in the world baseball baseball for the month of January rolling into February. Obviously spring trainings will commence before we even know it. And then you'll blink an eye and all all of a sudden. The baseball season will be in full. Swing it happens very fast just like spring coming usually happens fast. Hopefully it'll happen fast fast here in the city of Chicago I would hate for winter to extend itself With my first winter here Usually spring comes pretty quickly and suddenly throughout most of the country. And that's what I'm going to hope it's happening here but it is a big news day before we get to all those stories that I want to get into do it. I want to remind you to follow Jesus. MCC baseball on twitter there's an underscore between MC and baseball give us a a follow there and that helps us rate subscribe review. All those fun things. It helps the podcast. It helps me out. It makes everything better in an easier. We like to know when you enjoy the show so please do all of that. Dusty Baker is the new manager of the Astros will dime into that in just a second second Kris Bryant losing his grievance case with Chicago cubs. What does that mean? Why is that important? And that conversation will lead us into Mookie Betts and then from there we'll talk about this new essentially luxury tax. That's what they call it in basketball. They have a different term for it in baseball. But it's all the same thing thing penalties for spending a lot of money on players. Is this working to replace. What many have asked for for such a long time in baseball? which is a salary cap? We'll discuss that. Plus I WANNA make my argument for the designated hitter in the National League and collegiate baseball. I WANNA touch on his well because we had confirmation mation that one of the people that tragically died on the helicopter with Kobe. Bryant was a summer Collegiate League baseball coach and I want to kind of emphasize emphasize. I've a really unique perspective on it. How important summer collegiate baseball is what it is and why it matters to so many players that are currently only in Major League Baseball and why that loss does mean a lot to the baseball community? But that's all a little bit later. The show where I wanted to start is a place place that I get to ring the Bell and say yes I was right. The Astros were of the same mindset as me and that is with dusty Baker Dusty Baker Baker former manager of the nationals where he won ninety five and ninety seven games of the giants where he took them to the National League pennant of the reds where he led them to the playoffs for the first time since nineteen ninety-five at the beginning of the twenty tonnes former manager of the cubs where he was Steve. Bartman and then a bunch of mistakes made by the Chicago cubs away from taking the cubs to their first world series in a very long time at the beginning of this millennia dusty Baker one of the most respected managers in the major leagues has a bad reputation because he has never won a world series. He has consistently. He failed in the postseason. But the Astros following this major scandal needed respect. They needed somebody who the entire locker room understood knows what they're doing can listen to can bring integrity back in the game that the media you can trust that the organization can put him out there and be respectable. That's dusty breaker. One hundred percent brings in terms of what you need from a PR perspective from your manager following this type of situation for the Houston Astros. He brings that that respect level and the astros mention that in their press. Release about the respect of the game. The respect of other teams that will bring the astros by dusty Baker being in the full he brings respect. I mean other organizations other clubs other players other managers there's we'll always respect dusty bake that that's one thing you've always heard about the guy how much they respect them in every organization that's fired dusty. Baker has mentioned how much they respect. What Dusty Baker is done? And and to me. It's because he's a great manager. It's hard to be that successful in so many places uses and not be a great manager and I understand the world series thing hasn't happened it. Maybe it's because he can't get guys motivated for the play offs but to me I tend to think it's more of A. The playoffs in baseball are near impossible. In Dusty Baker's statistical anomaly to aware. It just hasn't happened for the whole thing's a crapshoot. Just because you have the best team does not mean you will win in the baseball playoffs. And he's just had bad luck. I think that that is certainly possible for dusty bake and it could happen at any time I really have have felt dusty Baker that he's had teams where can happen at any time now. My opinion was different after when I was a big time Cincinnati reds. It's fan still pretty big time. Cincinnati Reds Fan. I'm pretty honest about my phantom on this show it's not gonNA determine topics or anything like that but I love the Cincinnati reds threats in Dusty Baker may fall in love with the Cincinnati reds. And I got angry I got upset. I wanted dusty Baker gone after their failure in two thousand thirteen after they got bounced from the wild card game in embarrassing showing in Pittsburgh after being swept by the pirates and the season to end up in the wildcard game. I said this guy just can't win big games. What are the reds do over the next five seasons without dusty Baker? Oh it's the worst five year stretch in Cincinnati reds history and it took me about two years to be like man I I regret the wanting dusty Baker fired from that point on. I've thought he's a great manager and it's a shame that the nationals got over the Hump Without Him. It's a real shame. It's a shame that there's so many teams that have won the world series after he left left now maybe a few years cubs about fourteen years after he left giants was about eight years after he left nationals. Couple years after he left. Read still haven't done it. We'll see eh but dusty Baker's great manager especially when there's a highly talented team because he understands how to coach talented players how to get the the best out of talented players how to mold a roster like Klay and get him to play well throughout a regular season and what the Astros can lean on here is hey our guys know how to win in the postseason. They don't need a manager to teach them how to win in the postseason. They just need a manager. That's going to be listened to by the locker room that can be molded and can listen to the front office. which dusty Baker signing a one year contract will certainly listen the Astros Analytical based front office? He won't be rejecting of any of that already coach to the moneyball era twice with the reds reds and then with the nationals and had success twice in this era so the analytics thing is not a worry for me at all and maybe when they get to the post this season the astros made the argument to themselves. Well our players know how to win there and we don't necessarily need dusty to teach them how to win in the postseason. We just need to make sure this regular season goes right and it's important for baseball that this regular season comes right and I mentioned that on the show before dusty Baker ensures to me that the Astros are going to win ninety five games which ensures to me because we know there won't be cheating this year and you can say on how well it's going to be such a microscope and people will get banned end from baseball. If there's cheating again the astros will go down in absolute flames. It'll be the most embarrassing cheating scandal in sports history if they get caught again during this season the whole league should be clean on in terms of video replay just for this year until a new loophole is found when it's this much of a stink this much of a PR hassle when all the media and fans are going to be looking for it every game. You'd be silly to borderlines stupid if you tried to cheat this year in terms of video replay in stealing signs signs. Everybody's going to be on their best behavior. We know that and to me the Astros winning ninety five to one hundred games would silence those who think that at the cheating is the only reason they were one of the best teams in baseball. Now some will say they have to win the world series to prove otherwise but to me. Winning Ninety five to one hundred game shows does that there are a team. That's good enough to win the world series if things break right for them in the postseason and I think dusty Baker ensures that the astros will be that this this year because how many times has dusty Baker had a highly talented team and they win ninety five plus Games. It's happened a bunch of bunch. Even let her read Steve. That probably didn't deserve to win. Ninety seven games to a ninety seven win seasons probably more of a ninety one win team. So he's an elevator. He's a stabiliser stabiliser. He's a respect bringer. He's one of my favorite managers in the history of baseball. And I hope honestly that he wins the world series with Houston Astros if not this year the next year because no other manager deserves to win a world series more that hasn't won then dusty Baker because of what he's done and for the game of baseball how he's acted in each locker room and dugout. He's been in how gracious he's been every time he's been let go from these situations. How many players love him around the league? He's a beloved character and it'd be awesome for him to bring respect back to the Astros to prove that this entire cheating scandal wasn't as impactful in terms of wins and losses as everybody wants to say it is to save a little bit of integrity in the game of baseball that'd be awesome to see from Dusty Baker in twenty twenty. I'm really really excited. Really happy. That the Astros decided to go with this move buck showalter to me would have been a stretch. He's not as guaranteed. He had some failures in Baltimore. He's had some some failures throughout his career to me. Dusty Baker is one hundred percent the right and safe higher. And I'm glad that the Houston Astros made that decision Kris Bryant lost grievance case. He'll spend two more years in Chicago or we'll heat. We'll talk about the ramifications of the free agent trial from the Star Third Baseman. In in Chicago that comes up on the other side of the break. You're listening to the GSM see baseball podcast. Dusty Baker hired to manage the Astros

"Bob Nightingale of USA Today is reporting that the Houston Astros going to choose dusty Baker the longtime major league manager to manage. Houston that J.. Hinch was fired in the wake of the cheating scandal. The Astros have probably been the most analytically committed team in baseball. This report is true. What do you think of this higher? We'll Tony I'm not surprised. Christ by the higher I told you come to be downing Houston dusty. Baker was going to get this job and the Houston Astros have a lot of stuff take care of and one of them is sort of whether they want to acknowledge it or not getting back in the good graces of baseball dusty Baker is not some analytics nerd. Who wants to win win at all costs and has no conscience dusty? Baker played baseball managed baseball. He doesn't need the Houston. Astros would be great if he can win you the whole thing. But the Houston Astros in a bill. In in the in the need to rehabilitate themselves in their franchise reputation they need dusty baker and dusty Baker. It was the man for this job the moment somebody got to him and said dusty. Are you interested so as you know I like. I think he's a major league manager and I was upset when the national said. We're done with you but I can't be too critical because they're so wonder world series but here's what dusty Baker is he's a player's guy. He's my wii age so he's seen a lot of baseball. The Astros are going to be booed everywhere they go. I believe opposing Pitcher is gonNA throw with players. I believe what they need. Most of the manager is someone who is relentless positive Iraq relentlessly positive dusty dusty Baker is. It's not it's not that I think that tactically. He's the right choice is that I think emotionally. He's the right choice. 'cause I don't I think Houston is going to withdraw. The players. Get into shell dust. They say they're not well. Then it started yet. It hasn't started yet. I Love Day are a study. I mean there's usually bear watching as so really good team. They are and what what they needed to manage. A now is just keep the train on the track. You know we can do this as a radically different approach and lead I like it for VAT on field group. Think this will work. I do I again. He's a very positive and they're gonNA feel attacked on all sides. You're so by the way I'm glad he's getting this chick.

"I do like you do as a kid, you do like the person's dusty Baker pulls out on his like a big chopper any cruises. Any sees me and he goes and excuse me Zach? Ephron. Oh, excuse me. I. Excuse me. Excuse me. Excuse me. Mr. dusty Baker, can you come over, and he's like, I have to go to church. I'll be back in one hour. If you're hearing one hour, I will sign you also autograph. I'll send on. I was like, okay now where right. I waited I saw ran into all those other a bunch of other players. And then we're getting ready to leave where the last kids waiting in the parking lot of the sun's going down in San Francisco just on the sitting sidewalk. It was very like, in the movie mid nineties. Like L front like yeah. You know and, and dusty Baker came back, and he said he liked my blonde hair because I had spiky blond hair, and he, and which comes back to the very end of the story. Signed balls for my brother myself, and my dad, who were like lifelong giants fans and then. That was it was pretty awesome. That he went all the way he went to church. Bar. Yeah, that's the perfect he was gone for. And he was gone for an hour. And he came all the way back to, to do that. And he was dressed the same. Like you didn't go home and change or anything. Right. He like literally ran out to make it to church with family. And then he came back. That's the purpose of c base, too, because it's like he is the nicest guy and by all accounts, everyone loves them. But man wooden idiot could have just signed your ball, right? Then and there like, maybe ten seconds, never hadn't come back yet. Well, the problem is there were a lot of. Okay. The only reason the only reason that he stopped because I went up to I was like, please, Mr. nasty bigger any. He looked at. He was like, if you're here when our that's actually a cool. So it was really very cool. And you're fan of the saints, which I think they those fans are they love the fucking sport. They are like crazy and they're also know how to have a good time. And you know, Shawn Payne, right. I know. Yeah, I do Sean Payton. We don't to Sean buddy read did we gave us some one? Drink. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yeah. He's looking good man. "The nationals what would you have said to me at the beginning of the season shock i never would have believed it i mean they fire dusty baker who division titles ninety seven last year and i know careful what you wish for in this team's got the same guys come back actually a better team on paper in most most disappointing team in baseball yeah they'd better they'd better get going here so it's gonna be aggressive betrayed their mind may be forced to also i think they're gonna to you're going to sit back at one point but with the nostrils bonaparte lengthy are like muslims huge opportunity yeah and that's interesting atlanta they you know they were in the rebuild got these young guys now the young guys are performing you get to a certain point you say you know what we have to go out and try and grab it this year you never know when it's going to be there the following season yeah you can't just take it for granted feels like a year when washington nationals says oh we'll sit down stephen strasburg we'll be back and win a few more world series playoff series yet yeah you got to take advantage of it at least you know what the phillies are doing with the browser doing at least that gives hope for the white sox like okay they did a complete rebuild in came out of nowhere here this year so gives them hope there is there's some my opinion crazy but some reports in some rumors that you know basically questions what the white socks be interested in a guy like jason to ground now there are so many other people are jacob degrom i'm sorry there are so many people out there that need a starting pitcher i think the white sox be far down on the list plus with all the pitching they have their minors and they're in the rebuilding their looked likely to wait why why you would move those guys right now but where do you think the graham will end up if in fact he does get traded by the mets yeah you're right for zero cents i mean you might as well trade back for chris sale i'll take this heart jacob he's still young joe chance happening grounds being traded i think someone had to give up you know pretty much entire farm system gonna go like that i mean it's like the mets trading time fever yeah i guess that's the kind of guy you build your team around i don't i don't see that it really don't you know i know the white sox kid that was sale but that was just that was different and i don't see a team gimme up those kind of prospects for for degrom either we are looking i jesse rogers our guy on a little bit earlier we were talking about the cubs and you look at the cubs right now they've got kris bryant who's been struggling with a sore shoulder he probably won't come back till friday the earliest at this point they've got carl edwards junior still in the minors he's probably gonna come up in a week or two but he's going to have one more appearance down to the minors they've had a couple of injury problems there guys haven't hit for power especially a guy like brian's rizzo struggled a little bit any find themselves today thirteen games over five hundred it seems like everybody else the guys that were playing secondary roles have all stepped up this year what are your thoughts about the north siders and it seems like they've got everything working for them the one thing they have to worry about is the thing they have they thought was no problem was her pitching staff coming into the season the dodgers that kind of depth yeah you're right we're star players aren't doing much darvish has done nothing and yet you're the are they feel very fortunate position you know hanging right there with the brewers in about sixty cardinals so yeah i i make sure to see what they do with the treadmill dateline where they go get a reliever or starter i think it all depends on darvish if you don't think they can't trust arbor's coming back i think they've got to go get a starter just to help them down the stretching taller if there if there's hope that garbage comes back and can be the same guy i think they go get back in the leaner yeah it's gonna be interesting as we approach that date we'll see exactly what happens bob enjoy the rest of your fourth of july i know there's those tons.

"In the world so i'm eating all of this up and devouring it i actually just wanted to comment about the dusty baker thing i'm not here to dusty baker fan as a manager has got a stupid considering he was for the giants for so many years but i kind of feel like he got fired in washington for pulling in the ninth inning matt williams yeah that was matt williams he's not a big dusty baker fan though he doesn't i hear what you're saying but why why did bigger fired i was trying to think about one hundred ninety two years they're expected to go farther than the divisional round and and because i don't know you know max last year max scherzer injured his hamstring can't even go game one has to go and what game four game four game five hurt and i mean that's not going to do it so that's all on dusty yeah that's kind of crazy especially for a franchise that hasn't really won the division titles and all that sort what what were their expectations yeah that's the one question that i think is asked all around is what are realistic expectations because when you get to the play offs which is the goal you know i mean this a lot a lot of things we could go back to let let's let's be honest here i believe in baseball gods i believe i believe in them i believe in if you respect the game the game will you know it will pay you back and a couple of years ago two thousand and twelve what happened stephen strasburg was held out of the play offs innings limit correct yes oh yeah and for me that was the ultimate disrespect to at all whether it was right or wrong i feel like that's been the the black cloud over the organization sets the losing the washington in the postseason that your saint louis i'm sorry yep totally agree and even the way they lost that gave five at home in the dsp they had a big lead and quote bend crumbled it was i remember that game they went out to what was it a six nothing lead after probably one of the coolest home runs ever to jason worth fourteen fifteen pitchers bat walk off jimi oh yeah they had some stack teams like i'm i'm working right there on the the baseball guys saying it's kind of hard to imagine the the national they had gone onto win the series in twenty twelve it's hard to imagine that would have been the last title they would want to felt like it really set themselves back for the entire decade that was great i had a question for you guys as far as the giants wrote a record i'm guessing take eighty eight ninety two to win the west can they really win that many games having a road record under five hundred yeah if you keep playing six fifty ball at home that'd be their crushing it at the house they are in and that's a big thing right now obviously there are twenty six and fourteen at home so that means they got what another forty one games at home yeah i mean even so we were talking about the schedule of the road record going they don't have to go out of the western timezone until august when they're playing the cincinnati met series cincinnati reds new york mets series that's a seven game road trip then they come back home for three more series in there on the road of colorado's san diego so it's not like they're going to the east coast a couple of times in the second half i think the fa the schedule does favor them it seems like they're lineup should be built the school ron's on the road especially if they can enter power at all they should be able to victory sports on the roads look like kim cancer so it's kinda surprising you would think thank you very much for the phone call good steph restricted checking in all right coming up next we'll give our final thoughts on the nba then we'll get the last call cody franson then guess what the hell out of here on a tuesday evening was cody will hop in in less than ten minutes it gives us a last call you can hit us up eight away kmby ours the number of friends in an i both on twitter agile.

"And you go in tell me is what he said reasonable to you or is what he said for many of you a reason to go again meantime seemed strasbourg is going to start by nightingale who had the story originally now reports dead quote rizzo says strasbourg had flu like symptoms since his start was placed on antibiotics was given ivs and told dusty baker he would start so samad's salai vis and i'm guessing a healthy dose of peer pressure combined you can't tell me that guys in his own club didn't have an issue with that and again far be if we ever to question a guys heart or guys desire or a guys will but it's all manager did his own manager did his own manager him something us about that story is pretty incredible dusty baker was trying to talk about how this is the time of year in chicago where there's mold mold for law things my life but i haven't heard that like the clubhouse had a break out of mold guys who are suffering from mold i mean if this guy said you know what get off my pictures back it's understandable mumand came down with a case of the mold that's not what he said what he did say was this time of year in chicago there are often is mold in a lot of my team this kind under the weather with the change in weather and their condition and hotel and their condition in here and this this time of the year for mold around cargo i think is mold because ikea i have a twos you have mold you have mold diaw mold do you have termites do you have dust you are mold i think i have it to the i've got a case of the mold again listen i'm not going to question guys heart or desire or will or toughness or pain threshold but his own manager did when he said he's a little under the weather matt sounds like a guy who's just doesn't feel so great and.

"That team that's weird but it only got more weird because dusty baker met with the media yesterday instead to strasbourg through a bullpen session on tuesday therefore he would not be available except he didn't throw a ball pann on through tuesday he threw it monday uh okay so what's that mean that baker is utterly oblivious to win his guys work to win their bullpen or was he trying to cover for strasbourg and if he was doing that than why would he say that the guy was quote feeling under the weather so either he didn't know what the hell is going on the manager didn't even know what is guy has bullpen or he was trying to cover forest pitcher but if he was trying to cover for his pitcher why would he say he's feeling under the weather that's not exactly helping your pitchers 'cause if anything it running him in front of a speeding bus if you want to cover for your pitcher if you want to help your pitcher route you want to talk about how really sick he is how the guys on debts door not that he's feeling under the weather what do you think when somebody's under the weather they they've got the sniffles they've got a cold godless scratching their throat maybe a case of the monday's on wednesday i mean pretty much everybody goes to work when there are under the weather so make strasbourg one of the faces of your franchise look terrible too bad luck and then why would.

"Five five three two three four and b c eight five five three two three four six a tutu as we talk about major league baseball we talk about the series that are going on we didn't touch on the nationals cubs i do think it's the most interesting series adding two teams or so evenly matched up with each other what's interesting about the nationals is that dusty baker has not named a game to starter yet we know that strasbourg is going to go in game one here on friday but game two they don't know and they're waving because they're waiting on shirts or status and ensures okay to go then he's gonna go in game two the court also go with jill gonzalez in game two dusty baker says it's all about shirkers her cubs are gone with hendrix in game one leicester in game two kintana in game three and they might use jake arrieta if necessary even in game 4 or however it goes strasbourg worthy of the starting the game one he's been great this season but they're aces maqsudur he's the guy if he's healthy he normally gets the game one stark but they'll go strasbourg in game one and shire's or if ready will start in game two if shirt is not ready then they will likely.
