"Plan. CBS sports network. So Adam gays press conference today. Two o'clock the question that you are most interested to ask or most interested in his answer would be what? Now, you think about it for a second mind would be. What are the things that you need to improve on from your time in Miami? And the reason I ask this is because I feel like Adam gates if he got him alone in a bar, and you had a couple of drinks that he wouldn't take any blame for anything to happen in Miami. Seems like the type of guy Blake wasn't my owner is total Kirk and tannahill socks in the locker room was a disaster. Etiquette Landry outta there? Could sue stomping on people? I mean like my God. What what a mess? Thank God him out of there. So I'd like to hear him candidly talk about the things that he could improve on and see if it isn't just lip service. Right. Like seavy gives you an answer along the lines of well. Yeah. Towards the end of the year. I didn't handle adversity. Well, I turned into a jerk. I started yelling at people like the media say that he's not going to say that exactly. But my point being that I hope that he candidly talks about the things that he can improve upon because that's one of the reasons why jet fans hate this because they think that he failed in one place and she's going to jump right here. And do the same thing here without. Making any corrections to himself, right? And you know, the narrative out there is that there are certain players who didn't like playing for him. Okay. I get that. You know, there are a lot of coaches I didn't like playing for either. And I have not been shy about telling you who those coaches have been sure. And there are reasons why you feel that way. Either. A you don't have a personal connection or I as the player I didn't live up the expectations of the coach or the coach for me as a player didn't live up to the expectations that I had of him. So there's gonna be a disconnect because it's a people business. It's an and you're trying to find a coach that is going to motivate his team. So hopefully, I listen, I think that's what Adam gates will be here. I think there's a lot of motivation here. It's kind of like the Andy Reid motivation when he left Philadelphia immediately twenty four hours later, he had the job in Kansas City, and he turned out to be a pretty damn good coach for Kansas City. He was exactly what the Kansas City Chiefs needed at the time. Yeah, they needed. They needed a leader. And they needed suburb to go in there and show them how to run a football. Andy Reid a ton of. Successor. Philadelphia was championship game aftershave super Mike McCarthy coming to the jet. Exactly the gas. Depending on what Mike McCarthy wanted from the jets, which I told you was probably not going to be something that the jets were going to offer especially in light of now what you're reading is that there is a potential work stoppage in twenty twenty one in the NFL. And all of these new coaches contracts have language in there protecting the owners against these salaries at the coaches are making if something like that does happen in twenty and twenty one. So you never know the impact of what that would have had on McCarthy as well. So I don't know what happened there all I know is that in my eyes now when I think of all of this the fact that you have in the is becoming incestuous that Brian floors. It looks like it's going to be the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Right. So that means Adam gates is going to have direct working knowledge of what it's like to go against two teams that are running kind of what the patriots are running. Now, assuming that Brian floors is going to have that kind of influence on the Miami Dolphins. So I think that this is a good hard for the jets. I think it's going to be an edgy higher. I think he will definitely hold his players accountable. Because when he was a part of making the decision for the fifty three man roster. I think he got rid of guys that he felt worry negative influence on the rest of the team. And he wasn't afraid to make the call. Yeah. I do think it's going to be a benefit for them. Now, we were ranking the Dushi -ness of the coaches left in the playoffs. Now, I could argue AL's sort of our douche barometer. You know, our Duchamp eter. He's the guy who knows how to measure these things better than than we do takes takes one to know one. I would I would argue that Adam gates could be the Dushi is coach in all of the NFL. I mean, if he's not one he's a top three guy. I think you have to be a winner to be a true. So if he gets to the playoffs. Yeah. Then I'll be willing to throw him in the mix. I don't know, man. I think I think your true colors can come out during adversity as well. Like, let's say so where do you put Bill O'Brien analysis? Bill O'Brien way, Dallas. Yeah. Mike Zimmer down the list to factor minimal could be like the duty coach Mike Tomlin now. Well, yeah. Row guy aren't just doing do slack things. You will not find me. In the in the deuce pot. I will not be in that. That's not what we will live globally. I am deuce Lewis who could creep up there. Bruce arians. I could see of this year becoming Dushi. Yeah. But you know, what I feel like you gotta have a young component to be Dushi to like, you know, like. Just got to be arrogant and smug I didn't think cliff Kingsbury has gone Arizona Cardinals that guys like there's no these dripping in it three weeks. And if he's got three wins or two and one he could start turning that way. But if he's got he's a loser the season, he's not gonna show it, but gays could be the Dushi est New York coach since Tortorella. Worked out. All right. We got the Stanley Cup final with Todarello. And he's got another good team. Now. Rex Ryan was due. She would all have him back fun Dushi. Exactly. Yeah. There's a different. Like, I I think I've got a different definition of douche than you do like, I don't think that the winning is a part of it. I think you could totally be a loser to which are probably worse. Now. You're a winner douche. It's like, okay, that's fine. Like, whatever he's doing his thing. And it just him. You're a loser to all. That would be gazed in Miami. Yeah. He's in says this guys in soggy give you all the different reasons why they were just two games under five hundred and trying to rebuild the franchise around a quarterback that was often injured and missed season. I'm sure you could. I mean, we've had dolphin pans. Call in air saying that they didn't think it was hard. I yes. You think that that'd be a question? We can get one of those big guys to ask like where do you think you rank in NFL head coach over there? Didn't we ask you to do some of that stuff a couple of times? Yeah. I don't think he does that he goes on the jet beat do we have a we don't even have a check beat person. How do we even have a jet beat person? Well, I mean, we share sort of a shared thing. Maybe Dewey who we share it with Costello always. So somebody else pays them. And then we just kind of tack on to. Wait, the we pay him at all costs. I think maybe some gift certificates or something. That's the case. That's horrible. Wait, the Joe and Evan thing is getting gift certificates. I don't know. To applebee's. Let's say readers. Yes. I'm going to take that as fact any because it's very funny to me. So even if it's not true, I'm gonna I'm gonna run with that. Let's go to Iran Sparta Ray. What's happening? Guy. Yeah. Man. I thank my you. Playoffs longer. And I got a question about the coaching nine. Two nights. They wanna play. They hurry up back to the huddle. And they want to get another plane for too many days. Why are you want to read the ball back your score with more time left to me? Yeah. You know that that is a big question as to why they wanted to run a nother play before the two minute. Warning. The only thing I could think of is that they were just trying to run as many as they possibly can. I guess you're assuming that they would have scored and had they scored they would have left way too much time on the clock for drew Brees to be able to lead his team down for a field goal to eventually when the game. Now, they didn't have any timeouts left at that point. Right. And I was also thinking about the same thing. Like, okay. You know, if you're going to score you want to score with less than if the optimal situation would be scored with no time left on the clock. And you know, maybe if the ball doesn't go to Al Sean, Jefferies hands. We're talking about a different outcome. Who knows? Yeah. I mean to me I didn't look at it as much as the leaving time for the saints because scoring on that defense when they didn't basically the lead up anything after fourteen nothing that wasn't the issue to me the issue to me was rushing that play in that spot. They should just take a two minute warning. And just let the clock off the clock down to two minutes. Gather your cell, right? Call a play and have a plan moving forward. Yeah. You know, the other thing on Saturday Frank Reich at the end of the first half was calling timeouts when the cheats were in the red zone. You know, I was a little disappointing 'cause Kristin Allen I think they talked about it because I didn't hear it. I was saying to myself guys the reason he's calling time out is he wants to get a nother possession back because he knows that. The chiefs are starting with the ball in the second half. He asked to create possessions for his offense defense can't get off the field. Knowing that eventually they can probably score here. Even if we don't get a, you know, we're not going to get he's not thinking that we're getting a turnover. But he's thinking that they're going to score. Eventually, I got to at least have a minute a minute and a half on the clock to give my quarterback a chance go down and get us into field goal range, which he did. So would have been twenty four to ten at half as opposed to twenty four to seven. And I thought that was the way you manage a clock at the end of the half when you're on the losing end and you're the visiting coach quickly Don in Mississippi. What's up done, a good morning guys show, my wife, and I listen to you guys every morning awesome. Thanks. We appreciate a big Vikings fan to GO separate too many years. Like you. I wanted to make a point if you guys had a second. I think about it. The indoor versus the outdoor stadiums. There's only been three teams that have won Super Bowls. That are indoor stadium team's since two thousand. I loved to camp steady game yesterday with the weather and how it played out. And just gotta justified me for me that teams playing outdoors or doing so much better since you have three remaining out of the four. So I was just wondering what you guys thought. Yeah. You know, what's funny is talking about the Vikings when they were building that new stadium. I had hoped that they were gonna make it outdoors because I I loved the idea of what the Packers have with the bears. Have. I just thought that you lose something when you're indoors all the time. Now, they got that beautiful practice facility you're playing in the NFC north is just age that I feel like as lost. I got nothing to quantify that I really don't. But you know, and then you think about a team like the saints that so dominant at home in the dome, and then that would be the counter to that. If you get home field advantage your question how many Super Bowls they win. When when they were playing outdoors. They went to four though. All right. So the point being. Vaccines for what a home field advantage, though? Like the New Orleans Saints in the dome are different. You know, they are different team. There's no question about it. I think the last caller was right? And I think the culture different team indoors. That's why you have to get home field advantage. That's what you're angling for the number one seed, and that's why I think that this game between the chiefs and the patriots will be a good game because both teams are used to playing. And it looks like the long range forecast for Kansas City is a brutally cold. Yeah..

"But it is interesting because it means that for somebody like me like, I don't know if I would choose sponsorship and filmmaking and all that kind of stuff like if you could be guaranteed just live a simple life and just do your own thing. I mean, I certainly was on that path for for many years, and and found it very satisfied. You know? Yeah. Though, it's funny because now having made the film and having had this opportunity. I don't know. I don't know if I would necessarily give that up because you know, I mean, I do feel like I at the at the risk of sounding Dushi. I do feel like I'm able to give something back in this way. I feel like audiences get something from it. And so that is very very satisfying. I mean. Yeah, it's funny climate's always say that climbing is a fundamentally selfish pursue. It's like you're doing it for yourself. It doesn't matter. You know, it's basically your experience that you care about. And the thing is when you when you share it in a great film or something you're like, at least, plenty of other people are sort of getting something out of your experience that way, and it makes it feel slightly less selfish. Maybe, but I don't know. I don't know. It'd be interesting question because I certainly have to think about it. I mean because I always joke that the problem with being a professional climber. Is that you wind up being a worse climber as result because like, basically, the more professional, you are the more, you know, corporate speaking opportunities, you have and the more film things you do in the more sponsor events, and and all of those take away from actual rock climbing. And so you wanted to being worse as at what you want to be good at and, you know, better at speaking and things, but I think to the people are so obsessed with watching people who have committed themselves to a level of excellence in hero dreams of sushi. Yeah. Exactly. It's a great. Yeah. But that's also movie like absolute commitment. But in a totally totally different way. Yeah. And it's but it yeah. It's complete and utter dedication. And I it was sort of a revelatory moment for me, when you you said something to the effect of I think you were speaking about your girlfriend saying like her life is a little bit more about happiness happiness and minus about the pursuit of performance. And and I was sort of thinking that idea of like reconciling that you can't you sort of almost can't have both. Or what do you think? I don't know. I mean, it's funny because I think one of the one of the tensions at the heart of the film is whether or not you can't have both. And I think that that's one of the things I think there's a line in the film. I forget I'm starting to conflict like, you know, my memories with with the film with real life and everything, but, but when I first started dating one of the key things that she sort of.

"I've been listening to your podcasts since MAC break. I want to say so I was in, I think I sort of kind of discussed. So when did what, what do you remember what year. You look nice day started maybe two thousand eight or not. Yeah. So I think forty, three folders through folders was to September of two thousand four Mak break with something like I think two thousand so I must have been follow. So I graduated high school in two thousand and five. And I think that my senior year of high school, I probably found either MAC break or forty, three folders like there were some post of yours that we're sort of like getting getting posted on bond buoying stuff that I was reading and I kind of entered the Merlin verse. And I often like thinking back on college, what did I get as a person out of going to college? I mean, this completely seriously listening to your your stuff and just learning how to think about about about GT D. And all this kind of stuff listening to and also getting an apps. I had a hipster PDA and I had a tech note and text app on my phone and my computer and stuff, and just. Learning how to do that stuff probably was the most valuable thing that more than any class or anything else that I learned in college. Probably the number one thing that I ever did for myself in my life and I and I would be living very different life right now. If I'd never got exposed to those ideas and sort of heard you talk about an thoughtful way and so you're probably right that I've like, I'm also reading this book through the filter of having listened to. God knows hundreds and hundreds of hours of, you know you talking with Dan about it and talking on on max maximum. Meet me pouring my tap water into David Allen's vodka bottles for years well, but it also. It's fun to listen. You talk about it. Right. And it's funny I want to just say straight up. Thank you so much for saying that. I'm glad it was helpful. I mean, part of this also is this is this is maybe the folders. But I mean, when you read this book, holy shit, there's so much jargon in here and there is so much like I love the guy, but there's so much Dushi business guy stuff in here and the examples that immediately come to mind to him all the time are such business guy seat, won a seat one, eight whole like about life, but like what? What was lacking from this though? Was a way to turn that into something where like the very, very sensible pamphlet sized idea that you just described what you just described gave this as laminated sheets. Like here's everything you need to know about biology. Here's everything about chemistry like you could really benefit from something like this, but like, but there's that philosophical case to be made that like a you are fucked up and be everything your life. If it's important as important as you say like, why don't you take it more seriously? But then see, how do we, how do I turn that into something where you see. Difference in the verbs in your life by having a different attitude and relationship with announce in your life. And like, I think that's an idea that is still fairly new to people or the people need to be reminded about is like fucking mail. Those verbs, man. If you haven't nailed the verbs than nouns are just gonna all just drift away. Well, so just quickly go through a couple more miles you wanna. Thank me also, Alex. This is a good opportunity because then I'll think about the Email that I'll also put in show notes and then I'll I'll cry again, but but. In terms of like. Say it circling back max, you enjoy the checklist manifesto. Why that whole book could be a pamphlet. It's make checklist.
