"Most teams have great. Db's let's like the best teams in the nfc. Niners don't have great cornerbacks seattle. Nope rams have one arizona. Nope the packers have won the nfc. East the tampa. Bay buccaneers buntings. Hurt most teams. Do not like i just roll out. Peak durell rivas and dion sanders. And that's not the case if you can win up front it. I think you're defensive backs and be a little bit overrated now. Your safety play because they help in the run game and now they cover you know running backs and tight ends ultimately receivers are just gonna win most games right if you can play situational football in whole teams to field goals in touchdowns like i can live with average deeply. You gotta be good front. And like i talked about on mondays podcast. Mike parsons went from stand-up linebacker to defensive. End about a seamlessly. As i've ever seen a player do it. He looked good. I mean the eagles okay. The brain graham. That really sucks but they just broke off. Sweat gave him forty plus million dollars and they already have other. Good defense lime. Hargraves stud fletcher's frigging legend. Like they got some pop up front. They drafted barnett a couple of years ago in the first round they got dudes so i i'm fascinated to watch that game and the other team who has started fantastic. I mean there are two in. Oh they are the most entertaining team in the league but play a little backyard football and this guy's the best backyard football player right now in the. Nfl is not close his talent early in the season. When he's fresh and healthy is elite cuyler. Murray right now is dominating. Now he made some poor throws poor decisions against minnesota but his plays his flat. If i would making a highlight tape through two games on calamari you'd go. This is one of the best players have ever seen. He has made three or four scrambled to throw place that anyone listening that has watched jaw-dropping especially for such a little guy was such a big arm so fast stupid out talented. He is but i listen. People are gonna think. I'm hater. But i'm really not i promise you. I have no agenda here. I'm not gonna by the arizona cardinals. Because i don't think they're style of offense is sustainable later in the season their quarterback. He has to prove that he can stay healthy. If he's healthy all season they'd have a very good chance. But i don't trust their defense and philosophically. I don't trust the head coach. And what he stands for defensively because look at his all his years at texas tech they were arguably one of the worst defenses in the country and now his time in arizona. Their defense can't be trusted. That game for being. I think the final score was thirty five to thirty three the only reason the cardinals one is because they're guy hit a sixty two yard field goal. That would have been good from like ninety. Minnesota missed an extra point and miss the game winner from thirty seven yards. Their kicker can't make chip shots similar teams except minnesota's quarterback isn't a sexy. They're very very potent on offense and defense aren't any good anymore. So you just kinda hold on your ass you hope. A field goal is going to be the difference in a game. Thirty eight to thirty five or thirty six to thirty four and that's where the game was but listen to know you'd never apologized for being no..

"That's may have been when the six targets occurred. I don't think that's entirely true. But clearly that's Opportunities that he could still make some life now when you have a receiver catching eleven passes clearly accord and if you watch game he was doing on bradberry gray corners make mistakes. You know if you talk to guys who cover the nfl. They will tell you. Great quarterbacks will challenge great quarterbacks and see if they're receivers can make plays especially up great receivers. That's why you know you'd see randy. Moss make plays on durell rivas. You know in the two thousand seven season going back to you know that. I'm i'm sure there's countless other examples. We can out there. But it's just the concerns you might have when you have these guys in coverage so yeah. This is not one of those weeks. I'd i'm with you. It's not like you're you wouldn't be playing michael pittman anyway but the fact the jalen ramsey in town like know. You're gonna stay away from that match up entirely. Yeah even though he's it doesn't appear that he's gonna be shadowing receivers this year. But that's what i'm saying like you know for the dolphins for example. You know like drew davis white. I don't think is going to determine how you view exactly dolphins receiver. Yeah okay san francisco philadelphia big game here stat of the game where he missed eight games. Twenty twenty eight san francisco running back rush for a touchdown. At least one touchdown in seven of eight games. Actually if i think i might have gotten that wrong scored touchdown not necessarily rushed for in seven of economic and had a couple of receiving right. Well yeah but. I think there was one game where someone i think it was. Wilson caught a touchdown. Mackinnon did but also in that game. They were rushing touchdowns but there was one game. Where wilson had a good game didn't rush for a touchdown but he caught one so seven of eight games without most running. Back scored a touchdown. They didn't necessarily run the ball. That well. except for jeff wilson. So keep that in mind. Gimme your thoughts. Mitchell and this backfield trae sermon j. Michael hasty i think that mitchell is a starter in non and half pbr. I think he's a borderline starter. Inflex in full pr. So for example if you're debating him versus nineteen hines or james white or you know those those type of running backs He's in the conversation. I would put him ahead of those guys. Based on what i expected such as to be. But he's in that conversation But in non pr quill. You're hoping for fifteen to twenty carries like we saw last week and the chance to be north of yards rushing with a chance to score..

"Because he doesn't use that phrase but it sounds like that's what he says the numbers come back to the means. So is this once again. You second guess. Brian cashman but you. Don't you give them enough time. Which the yankees always do. It ends up coming back to. The mean is that just another example of his. Brian cashman deserve more credit. Than maybe we're ready to give him. Yeah i think so. because You know the fact that you know. He didn't fire coaches right. Didn't fire the manager. He basically said no. Here's what we see. Here's what we saw. This offense led the majors and run scored from two thousand seventeen to two thousand twenty. In the first half of the season they had head-scratching performances all over the place. I had one person the organization run through lineup for me one day and say you know what eight of the nine guys have underperformed and we think that they'll turn that around. That's what they trusted. And on top of that i you know at this point part. Brian's if you say one of the best parts of his resume right now would be. It's ability to make traits into see spot and say okay. We're gonna go for it. I really feel like the mets weren't first place. They defend their position. It first place before the trade deadline the red sox in a word first place in the american league east they were the least aggressive the fourteenth contenders in the division. We're on the other hand. Brian cashman had very little room under the under the competitive balance tax and yet. He figured out a way to make deals for anthony. Rizzo getting the cups to pay salary in for joey gallo and restore balance the lineup and restored the death. I do think he deserves. Credit is crazy right he has seemingly had no money no moves and he just got other teams. They'll take on mentioned getting those two lefties which was the most important part of getting some lefty power. Boy we sam boyd is came and say he deserves to play. He put his andy dalton moment unless he showed up. Let's see let's see if the yankees can't get themselves back in that conversation for championship. Meanwhile in bart's hometown of detroit. You have miguel cabrera hitting five hundred home runs and i remember a time buster and we're about the same age remember time we're five hundred home runs. That was like a. I mean that was a historic milestone baseball. Because it just weren't that many guys that got to that point. And i are we just under selling it or we'd we not celebrating it. Enough is now well if he gets it three thousand his well then now. That's a bigger deal because there's less people who've done it is five hundred is five hundred home runs what used to be in major league baseball. No the sarah changed all that. You know it used to be that you had. What twelve thirteen guys. Who had hit five home. Five hundred home runs into a special club and that number doubled in the span of about fifteen years because You know the players You know that they're just massive Pd use and so the numbers. I think lost some of their majesty And let's face it because cabrera has faded Toward the end of his career here in recent seasons i think that also took some luster off. It's not like you spreading through the finish line He's had some real struggles. The tigers haven't been playing that well and look. He's going to get three hits next year. He's gonna hit that milestone and farda eight to say to you. I think you're gonna see Sort of a similar muted reaction I think the one thing that would help it would be if he had a resurgence at the beginning of next year and and went out Flying and if the tigers were in serious contention. American league central. I think that would change a lot of the optics of making towards the end of his career but look he's one of the best right handed hitters of all time. Molina coming back for another year. I mean nobody likes to have these farewell tours but one of the greats obviously in cardinals history one of the greats at that position as a catcher. Just him coming back. What does that mean for the cardinals. What does it mean for him. And how will baseball celebrate him. Yeah guys last winter. When he was a free agent camp was making noises about well he might sign with other teams. You remember. There was that one day when he was linked to the yankees And i can tell you this folks with other clubs like gain ever leaving the carcass like he's a legacy player with the cardinals. He's gonna be elected the hall of fame on the first ballot He he used to baseball. What i think of Not being a non football guys dion sanders was the nfl. He was a shutdown. is they shut. Shutdown catcher. in the way that you know dion sanders took away one. Half of the field durell rivas took away one half of the field Had a defensive impact that No other catchers had in terms of limiting the running game in terms of coaxing pitchers through is an absolute icon among catchers in baseball. And yeah. it's going gonna come back for another year. He's not gonna pass anybody on the all time list of Games play for catchers but if he plays all next year and then signed another one year deal then the next year. he's going to hop over some all time. Great names like karl fist..

"It comes down to kenya replicate and build on your success as a rookie in the nfl. With the new head coach and a new system. We know that it worked last year with anthony lynn. We knew that it worked with the previous coaching staff. And it just comes down to whether or not joe lombardi can recapture and rekindle some of the magic. That you saw with drew brees and michael thomas throughout the years and if they can add and if herbert can build on his forty three hundred yard thirty one touchdown ten interception rookie campaign. And listen. I get it at the chargers and just in her plane. The same division. is patrick mahomes in the chiefs. But there's no reason that herber can't build on what he did as a rookie. Carry that franchise one step closer to the postseason or more than that and make those games more competitive with the chiefs. And maybe even be a threat to the chiefs going undefeated or more and sticking in the afc west. You kind of have to scratch your head a little bit. What the denver broncos did take patrick's retain now he's easily atop two or three cornerback in this class and cornerback is becoming more and more important than you. better have. Great quarterback play. If you're going to be a division with patrick mahomes and tyreek hill and justin herbert and keenan allen and derek carr and all of the weapons darren waller and everybody that they have out there in las vegas. You better have dominant cornerback play. But you passed up on justin fields. You passed up on mack jones. Both of which are looking every bit. The part of franchise quarterbacks both of which would look terrific. Throwing the ball to caja hammered court. When sutton noah thought jerry. Judy and maybe there's a chance. Patrick 'certain winds up being jalen ramsey or durell. Rivas or one of these top cornerbacks in the league. But now you're hearing about all of the drama and broncos camp you're hearing about drew lock yanked from a drill after a bad throw offense coordinator pat shurmur and you just have to wonder if for all the arms race that you need to take part in on defense to stop the chargers and certainly the chiefs. Maybe you're better off with the offense you've already put together at the skill positions and pretty good offensive line. Maybe denver would have been better off taking a mac jones or adjusted fields. Which is why. I'm really interested in. We'll be focused on patrick's ortena what he's able to do. Throughout the course of this preseason on the other side we'll get to your twitter questions about the first couple of weeks the preseason and what's to come in the two thousand twenty one. "Why worry about a guy. Like dirty. Dan when dirty. Dan's done he's going to be done all the we've seen that with other with other guys like Remember at the end of their careers ty law durell rivas like they were hosted. It didn't matter at all the brains. Those are positions where athleticism matters. It's a little little different safety a little bit more of a buffer. But so i think that i'm okay with this. I know that like the market setting and all that stuff matters it could cost. She's a little bit more. But i think that the chiefs are in a really difficult position with salary cap. And they're going to be for the foreseeable future. They've got they've done some really smart things. Obviously with the mahomes contract to give themselves flexibility. But i think visas looking at and this is just totally. My my feel is he's looking they also didn't sign orlando brown right they. They just traded a first round pick for the guy multiple picks and he's the guy for the left tackle for the future presumably. Why wouldn't you just extend him now. And i. there's there's there's a strategy here that's that's obviously playing out. It's not just a tire. Matthew thing it's nor orlando brown thing i think brett visas looking at all of this and saying let me just kind of see what happens this year right like you know who weird shit happens. All the time in the nfl guys get horribly injured. And then they're done and then you've got signing guaranteed money and all the stuff that's counting against your cap and so i think maybe he's just like he knows matthew's great and he knows he's the leader of the team but to try to keep that sustained success. If you if you lock up too many guys too early you lose your you lose your ability to be flexible and having that flexibility when things happen like your entire offensive line gets hurt and like your i mean. Think about it like he was going into the season last year. And he's like all right. I've gotta stugz. Eric fisher super solid left. Tackle i've got one of the best rat. Or maybe the best tackle football on mitchell schwartz. We bring in the whole super bowl team back all of that made sense and look what happened. It was completely you. Had you had guys that were may not even make the team. We're starting on the line and the super bowl. So i think maybe he's just going and he knows that this is like i think they're going to the chiefs are going to get broken up into chunks. Now is like eras of the team like whereas it's it's not coaching ariza anymore. Like it was when they stunk. And they were just rotating through herm. And all these people are crappy. Quarterbacks there's new england right there are new. England had eras it was like. Yeah the dion branch era and then it was the randy moss era and those things and remember the. oh god. who is their defensive lineman. Why can't i think of his name right now. seymour richard the richard seymour era. And he was the guy and they had all these people mike vrabel and and you don't wanna be wh what belichick always did a good job. What was like when mike able was toast. Mike variable got traded to the chiefs right and br. vh is..

"Everyone was using the scheme at point and we did see you know th there were a handful of guys who were like you know second round picks and sort of that body type that never really panned out in in other teams that were trying to replicate that that defense there but it was just kind of reminder like richard sherman is not dro- rebus but also like durell. Rivas is not richard sherman. They played in completely different styles of defense. They're both equally obnoxious when they argue on twitter but Yeah it's just it's coming up with a scheme and then find the perfect players for it. And then once it gets copy added. It just gets harder to actually get those players because everyone else's is shopping. The same store now almost call it like a trader joe's you know and then you know it's like the salted caramel or the cookies that are shaped see can dip it in the mug and then once everybody finds out and can't get him. Yes the trader joe's favorites. Everyone has the same favorites in. They're always gonna and you try to get them. So i'm with you on that connor for me. It's the mochi because it's like cheaper than the mochi that you can't get anywhere else like you get a six pack of the green team okay. And it's like way cheaper than a six pack of mulkey at like whole foods. That's that's one thing that seems to always be gone like the sesame cashews Yeah i can never find them anywhere either. Lots of good items though I i only kuhlman cliff bars. So i can't really i can't really relate to you guys and luckily there's no shortage of those anywhere. I don't know what i'd do if there were not a popular flavor all right well. Let's let's dive into some nicknames. Now we'll pause the mailbag for just second couple questions left but So last week connor sort of recapped his dive into pro football reference. And some of the pro football references. A wonderful people should use it. We use all the time but they list nicknames of players that are i think the term is there not existent. They're not actual nicknames. They seem to be completely random nicknames at someone just sort of assigned to to guy so we asked you to send in some some nicknames or some ideas for nicknames and we'll see if any stick over the years and if you wanna keep sending him in we would love to get them. Some of these are on the nose. Some these are a little more pro football reference e which just positively delights. The three of us. But i don't know we'll we'll kind of connor. I don't know if you want to help. Read the list here. Low that maybe you. And i alternate and enroll these out but Owen had sent in and this one's on the nose. But i do like it. Owen is going with kindergarten cop for lamar jackson based on his. Maybe it was a bathroom break last year. In cleveland Yeah i could see. That cop is a good one. Yeah i yeah so again. Like i think we need to be The prompt if you'd like to send in nicknames like it has to be absurd you know like and so against some of these are very good an i'll just leave that So joe sent in for. Nick foles the golden calf because his teammates slash blasphemers routinely create shrines and worship is image so very deep biblical connection there Which the good job..

"Thirty three in two thousand and eight. He made a pick six to beat dallas. Like this is the kind of player. Joe haden. Ken be is much better players into shea. Townsend ever was right joe. Hayden is like you play them starting quarterback until he can't play that in and then when he can't play that anymore you put him in the slot and there you go. He plays that for a bit and then use done you. You keep him because he can do that. Similar to how hines ward went out in his old age you know like he he can still get it done Joe haden doesn't depend on his speed. He's guy. I only say he has not the old man savvy he knows how to get away with fouling people without getting caught. You will see him hold people and it doesn't look like he's doing anything but you you get a close up and he's got like their jersey like death grip on it. He's holding he's just like no. You're not going there like what the rest like unseating thing. Joe haines do like joe. Haden get it done. He's fantastic leader fantastic guy. Everyone loves him and when he goes and he he needs to. Pittsburgh steelers jersey for people that don't think hayden's hall of famer. I feel like his contract. Extension will probably look for something like three more years. Get him to fifteen years for a corner to be good for that long. Like to think of the great corners of the last twenty years like durell rivas the first one that pops mind what was his. What was his top like four years. He was unbelievable for four years. Richard sherman five and a half maybe when olson done. He'll have fifteen years and from the way he's played. It'll be fifteen solid years that that's one of the reasons why he'll have a shot. Also he's joe. Money for reason This next contract will make him. The highest paid defensive back in the history of football for career earnings. Expect this guy to be making a really debilitating salary cap number. We'll be surprised if you took a pay cut as well. Do you think you'd be making the same amount of money is now. I don't believe he will. I don't actually think he he will. I think i even think with this statement. He's kind of having the steelers bit of leverage on that contract. Say hey i know what you want to retire steeler. You're going to have to do something for us. You know you've made you've made your million dollars. You made your money. Yeah how to be a rookie that year before that That railway cb cba came down. Oh man that must sting for that rookie class the next year. I can't remember what it's switched over like twenty eleven. Maybe but what what. It just kicked to the wallet. We've gone from a top ten. Pick making one hundred million dollars to like thirty still a lot of money. I would love million dollars but still. That's a considerable drop off. But joe haden yeah he contract to hopefully soon to be completed like honestly i think we can probably get him five or six year that low and that would be phenomenal. It can't get along with that and the salary caps going to grow exponentially each and every year from here on out this year stadiums will be full again. The revenues up these new tv deals. I'd be shot. I know. I know the league set the cap at two hundred eight million dollars as a as the ceiling for this hour of next year. It's gotta hit that. I'd be stunned then. I really would be stunned. So five million dollars for gallon johann. Yes sign me up. I know we're rapidly approaching the top the hour here so two things down for the show. I'm gonna throw some of the competitions in training camp thus far. And i want you to give me who you think is the kind of clubhouse leader here for first and foremost the backup quarterback spot. Who would you say at this. Point is a qb to in pittsburgh mason. Rudolph is is number three. The dwayne askins or is nice football. Okay could only. I expect it to stay that way. Through the end of the season. I think they have more of a longterm plan for haskins than a you know. Get him go in this season kind of thing. Plus that are af- year. That's the steelers. Get them for as well. He's gonna cost peanuts next year so he'll be back just before we move onto the next guy. Josh dobbs could the steelers hang on a four. Could it be that vet practice squad edition and just hope. It doesn't poached. i don't think so. We'll really wow around sort of buddies as one of the things. They like him. So i bring him into camp. Give them a shot. Let him show himself. He nobody else's picking them up like let let him do something. Let him show that. There's no reason for them to in you know another devlin hodges type guy. they've got the depth. They need right. Gotcha now these other ones. We can go through a little bit faster here. Because i think there is a lot of spots still up in the air inside linebacker number three. I think it's gonna end up. Marcus allen really numbers don't like it Yeah but in gilbert ends up playing himself into the doghouse he always looks flashes and then other things he just doesn't have it so i think i think that will go. Probably yeah for me. I look at. I think the steelers are gonna go rookie heavy this year. I think buddy. Johnson ends up as the third inside linebacker. That's my opinion would be nice. It would be nice We certainly need it nickel corner. I think they're not going to do what i think they should do. But i what. I what i think will happen is probably millette. I think you're the arthur take that over. I've not sold on antoine brooks yet. He is he has some liabilities. People thought mike helton wasn't good coverage mike. He'll a lot better coverage than what we're going to get from from a antoine brooks junior. Kiss a fun one. Hopefully jeff hartman's tuned in hunter. Do we have to punters. Who's the other guy hill. Envy press see this year. I tell you why. I'm pressed on presley. Harvard not to put the cart before the horse. But a pressing hard makes this team. If steeler nation doesn't make him the pro bowl punter. I will be so disappointed in you. I'll be leading that charge pressing her own all the times all the votes. Who's the defensive lineman that's getting cut. Ooh that's a harsh one of. It's it's a tough question. We've talked about it all off season long. I'm sticking with bugs. That's someone's kinda like jumped at me for saying that. But i still think it's going to be isaiah buds. He took that stupid penalty he does those boneheaded things all the time like i think that some baccalaureate mondo still play special teams carlos davis looks good monday motto was also the first guy in art. It was him in a. What's his face. Chris warmly. Yes yes and louder mic. Looks good yet. I gotta feeling it's and you know what i wouldn't shed a tear i think i think they're smarter Like football iq on that defensive line. And that's that's the way i go about it. I'm really kind of lost one. I know andrew. Wilbur threw it in the live. Chat their butts a wide receiver five slash kick returner punt return. I think all things relative there rarely mcleod's and take any kicks. I know he's still listed as the returner but could matthew sexton be the guy. Could someone else be there. I know abuse. He's been turning some heads. Gosh there's the other receiver whose name is blanking knee right now. But the steelers kept kept him around off. Johnson yes. Recovered recovered a fumble. He did that was a beautiful recovery. To as those those make a mark. Man those make mark roberts bylanes stuck around May that's a tough one. I would love. I'm gonna probably go with sexton. I think you'll shot to.

"Still calls them all right within like about by the way dinner is at four fifty five bacteria beloved. And if you're there like ten minutes early like you're late testament to him in his career. I mean i do think that a lot of guys obviously still listening. But it's just funny because he's probably the most quotable coach and when you talk about guys like obviously bell check is his own greatness. But like the zimmer's the sean pains were like those guys that like they still engage and learn from him and the thing about bill is he has so much wisdom and a lot of times. They'll be like. Oh i'm a dinosaur or i made this. He is a very like reflective guy. Very insightful you are what your record says you are if you draft the wrong quarterback set you back ten years true. If you're going to let me cook dinner. You should at least let me shop for the gross. Yeah like he's got all of them right. Yeah maybe my expectations for you or higher than those of yourself okay. That's good yes very good. I said i'm not mad. I'm disappointed from your boss. Yeah but like working for him like there were times like he was in mourning. Guy like i will leave a note on his door like five fifty in the morning. I coach i screwed that up. It will never happen again. Thinking like he was gonna fire. Be the next day like there is a hooters like half a mile down on hempstead turnpike and we'd signed somebody like. Hey mr t. At a great day everybody. Let's go eat some wings. Like he he was he like he kept you on your toes but at the end of day like you would like walk on glass for him. Yeah talked about about the job of driving prospects and driving Free agents to and from the airport. I feel like that's a starting position for a lot of people. Nfl that are looking to work in front office. The airport pickup guy is. Was there any instructions that you had from above. Hey keep your mouth shut. Don't talk to them or you expected to like what makes what makes you feel like you did a good job driving them to and from the airport. Actually this is one of my big philosophies in life like who you are is how you treat people that can help you the bus driver. The waiter the waitress the equipment guy. One of the reasons we drafted durell rivas was like how respectful he was to our intern. Who he thought was a driver and for coach bowel. Check when we would bring guys back. You'd be like hey tell me about that. And again his whole thing was like if this guy's an asshole when we give them ten million dollars. He's going to be a bigger aso now as rex would say if he could rush the passer. That's okay at least we were getting right and so for bell check like there was a bunch of times like we'd guys for physicals. Hey tell me about. What kind of guy was he. Did he tip you. All that stuff is earn allotted amount of guys on roster that you're like are x. Amount of assholes. Yes so it every single. Gm's office they have one mathematical equation. Production equals tolerance and your parcels and belgium. Used to argue about lt. Because right lt never showed up for the off season program. That was really important to our cells and bell checks. Okay so like. How long are we gonna bench. Lt. and there's just a lot of wisdom in that discussion like you and a half standards protocols and culture but you know what like. Hey if tiger woods is on the off season program like he's still going out there you know as one of our guys and they always said like bell check treats everyone the same and i. I believe that film study. But there's no way that he treats everyone the same in terms of the tolerance at the what they would do in whether he'd bring gronk was obviously different than some other bronx hall of famer. Yeah and there's a legendary story that burrito love to tell which was jimmy johnson first day on the job. He's like look the maria you fall one these meetings. I'm going to wake you up corner. You fall asleep on these beings. We're going to cut your ass. Yeah yeah that's just life though right right yeah it's true i'm going to give you kind of two options which road you wanna go down this question. I have one question. That's about some inner team. Strife that you had to deal with and then another one. That's about team. Two team stripe that you had to do with. Is there option three. No there's only two options well. Let's go inner team for two hundred where you was part of you. That was like okay. Thank god that made my decision a lot. Easier when gina smith got punched in the face. I actually was weren't okay all right well. That's okay how you were with them for tibo though right yes. Someone was dumb enough to trade for him. Yeah so the. Tim tebow decision. Let's talk about that because he you know he's back in the league as a tight end. Did you ever think about like. Hey tibo you want to go out and run some routes for. Yeah it'd be. That's really why we got him. We lost a guy named brad. Smith guys may remember him. He was a great quarterback that missouri and he of different jobs at one of the great things about where i sat for so long was just learning and listening to the game through the head. Coach was with so rex. Always like. I'm just telling you mike like as a defensive guy. I hate when the opposing quarterback can make plays with his feet. And when we lost. Brad smith it was like hey. We got to replace him so on paper. It made sense to say all right. We could get tim tebow for a fourth round pick. He's mickey two million dollars. Like i think that's one of the mistakes they made. It was like all right on paper. That's very logical. He just brings so many more eyeballs to it. Okay i'll tell you really funny story so In my house with our kids we have a thing you have to earn your dessert eligibility. You have to do something nice for somebody else. All guy of you. Yeah yeah so we we. We have tim come in. And we're having dinner and it's like it could not have been more awkward like you have tim. He's an icon his agent. We have our trainer his family. I got my mom in town from boston. And my two kids. And it's like okay like you know like seventy year old. Jewish mom and tim tebow like how in the world are. You gonna make conversation some like you know. Hey mom would you today to earn desert eligibility. So she's like you know. I bought my coworker turkey. Sandwich on my great mom like you got a chocolate chip cookie so we kind of go around the table. So finally gets the tim..

Pardon My Take

"He was a low died of the wolf scout. Longtime like great guy a little bit of like an old school feel guy. Yeah and again if you think about. Tom brady's arab couldn't start at michigan. Slow ray like what's the attribute about him if he's if he can't beat out drew hansen like at that time like champions panzer was like the golden boy had randy moss and all like he was. We were shocked. Tom brady chad panton. Thought he was going to pittsburgh. The steelers gave every indication that he was gonna go eight. They took plaxico like we were doing backflips and he was there at eighteen. So you just brought something up. I wanted to talk about the feel. I like maybe numbers or analytics. How much is it. Feel when you're talking about drafting guy. I think so here. My view on that guys is we want to use the numbers to embel- checks a little bit like this to like. Let's define the fairway now. We could go outside of it but let's make sure that we are so you look at any of those guys like wes. Welker danny amendola even like what heads a little bit like that other woodhead was a little bit faster straight line. Those guys all had a redeeming characteristic. They were great change direction three cone. But my point was guys we could go outside of the of the parameters but if we do they have to have a compelling reason and some of those cases with a slot receiver had great change a quickness. But i wasn't going to go outside those parameters. Because someone's like yeah. I think he's going to be really special. Why tell us why he's so special. See that would be where. I would get tripped up with. Gm thing because obviously as a gambler someone would just say like. Hey this guy's gonna be special on like you know what that's my lottery ticket. Let's go and i will probably fail every single time. But that's okay like an like tunsil is a great example. This like we got tunsil right because it was a little bit of a gut feel which was the video is unreal right national. Tv what did you think in the room house. Hey i'll take you right into the room. So laremy tunsil for people. Don't remember the obviously the face facemask and everything right. So we have brandon albert. Good not great left tackle. We are convinced that tonsils originally going to go one tennessee but his floors five. He's going to baltimore. So gas masks whole thing starts and gets to five. They take running stanley. I'm like damn like ozzie. Newsome like he's a little bit of a risk taker. Like ozzy doesn't care like he just wants good players like eight nine. I'm like oh my god like there's no way he's going to be there so we brought in our air scout matt winston. Who whose brother was the nfl pa president. Eric winston great scout. He'll be a day. He's like tonsils a great kid like great mom. Great teammate. academic irs equipment. Is they all love them. And obviously look if you're gonna take if if you could take somebody because they are smoking weed like they'll be ache is on the board right. Yeah right he just happened to get caught and right so he's sitting there at thirteen and we're all like look like he's a great kid vein mistake. It was a great opportunity for so it was a feel thing big cat but like we had a great scout who went in there in the fall and we knew exactly what we were getting. Yeah i don't even think it was that big of a mistake. The video is pretty cool. In retrospect like actually. I kinda wish i had a video like that out there. Actually it gets even better so like drug guy. I go back to go back to my office. I am doing backflips. We just got the first guy in the draft and we didn't have to like this is unbelievable. I caught my wife. Michelle can you believe. How unbelievably lucky we are like. I can't believe i am so pumped she's like you got a problem like what are you talking about. She's like young kids at the time. They're like scared to death and i'm like you just handle it. She's like no. You're gonna handle it and i worked quickly. Went from being a gm very concerned father. What real and of course like the next day like people make mistakes and the whole spiel. I think it was mostly because it was an intimidating looking mask. Scary kids like well. Why'd you draft a stormtrooper example. Like and i think that if that had happened a couple of years later just in the last three years the narrative has changed a lot around marijuana where you know a lot of states have legalized it so i don't even know if he falls to you. That was like the perfect timing for the dolphins to capitalize. You think you would add an endorsement on that. Yeah yeah yeah. E signed him up laremy tunsil. Yeah All right so other thing that i've always just wanted to ask a gm your time at the end of your your jets. Tenure was there a feeling of like. I'm a dead man walking. How does that work because we see it. All the time where we know recod- point right now to the thirty two teams the nfl. You could probably say five to ten of gm's right now will maybe get fired if things don't go well and they have to feel it. Yeah absolutely like with privileged comes responsibility and like these are not jobs. You're going to retire in and it sucks like what you see your name on the back page and you know like your day is coming and there's a lot you can do and i always felt like you know i'm not going to change. I'm going to be the first guy in every day. I feel like my motivation was slightly like there was an insecurity like that. I ever really even deserve this job like i replaced. Bill like who. I so i i was always like i'm going to be the first guy in the last to leave and even like when i knew those days are coming. I'm like i can't change and then you look back and you're like you know what we stood shoulder to shoulder with the best in the game and we held up pretty well. Yeah so we're one of the best guys that you drafted Durell rivas one of the best cornerbacks to play in the last probably in the history of the nfl so that must have felt pretty good but at the same time you knew that every offseason it was like okay durell rivas is going to work me over for more money and as a general manager you have to balance that against what you're paying out to the rest of the team do you like. Is there part of you. That kind of regrets having him on the team where it was a it made your entire offseason. Such a pain in the ass. Pfc those are good problems to half like. We'll sign up for those coach. Always used to talk about mr t. Let's worry about right ons outright author who was always worried about get the money get the money out the rest so those are good problems to have. Yeah he he was a great player and i actually think he played the system as a player exactly perfect you maximize value while he was in league in the way that he would renegotiate all the time but that was always like the constant storyline in the off season. Did you ever feel like you. You had to be prepared in advance for those negotiations. Even like right after he signed the last one no doubt and what most agents don't understand guys is the most effective pressure that a player could put on is from within now with rex. Everything about rex's true. The good the bad the ugly and i love him but when he's out there every day saying he's the best player in the sport and we couldn't lineup without my that is not exactly negotiation one on one so and his agents surly to they're like we're going to use everything that wreck said but the amount of pressure that was put on internally we could not function without durell rivas so that was like the holdout a player. That's actually willing to hold out and his a talented football player. That's the best strategy. Typically like that's the way to maximize value. You have to convince the front office that you're gonna miss games. And i've said you know for the last year on. Espn like with aaron rodgers. Like green bay will not blink or even think about blinking. Until he doesn't show up now would he doesn't show up. Now take a half a step back. And say hey. Can we get three wants from denver. Really what do we have enjoying love. Can we get nick foles for your all those other discussions. The day he doesn't show up those discussions begin but until then they're gonna assume that. Hey he's bad like a lot of us are at his boss but when rubber meets the road he's gonna show up so that the so in your mind that Entire staredown never really was a stare down because he never there was never a day. That didn't show up for a year until he doesn't show up. He's a green bay packer and they know that. And you're praying that his competitiveness and one of the things that i admired from what roger said was it was really clear like. He's a good teammate..

"Because even if they were seventy five so fucking boring. Yeah they got the same quarterback they they don't those fans. Don't want kenny. Pick it back. But they're going to be okay because they got kenny. Pickett back but there. I mean certain also pittsburgh. You have a history there where you've produced you put pits. Nfl yeah you can put up against almost anybody. That's gerald marino marino durell rivas arguably the best quarterback ever Shawn mccoy and i think they also have to always railway was just in play a pit. What derail was did not play a pit right bro. Did i get that. Am i wrong. I'm looking. I'm pretty sure he played a pit play. I'm pretty sure i know it. I'm pretty sure yelling in their cars right now. A you confusing. Somebody else aren't so okay. I've got different one here for sure. Okay so can i go i so i don't have a depressing team in victim. Why not well. I just couldn't i was just looking at are good. Some of these teams depressing. That's where i'm getting around a bunch of dudes name. Tena jaden the i o this born the difference between boring and depressing like. There's not a team that. I look up there and you know what. I'm really going to be depressed about that. The closest i got was minnesota because they were so good a couple years. Rutgers records is always but like. I just like jersey. Let me tell you something new. The new jersey fucking transit is the worst thing on the plane for. I know franken i know frank has been on this for a while but i experienced this weekend. It is the worst thing on the planet art. So you don't have one the new jersey transit. Sec you took a home. Pick and now big ten year copying out. And not saying. I'll take to. I don't want you minnesota. I think let's go the big ten. Because i think it's much more depressing to be a have not in the big ten west. You always got hope. Because there's nobody sitting on top of your chest wisconsin's good iowa's good. Casey wasn't sexual. We're looking at katie and trying to make a joke. I missed that completely my credit. It sounded like you just said i missed what was like go. Get some freudian katie. But i think in the east. I think rucker xiang gao hope right. Now i think maryland with recruiting delo. Hope right now. I think michigan's just too big program to call them all that depress ohio states on top. What hope does michigan state half right now. Michigan state when they when they mark dantonio left him in a weird way. Let them with all kinds of questions. Then they go out and hiring season they hire a guy who's not winning at colorado and they bring him in their quarterback this year..

"Relax relax. I'll have the twenty acres that you got. Just go outside and play eighty yard. Football's all day kickball. So true little house. Well i mean if you spend all the acreage building the house. I mean what's going to happen. That's being rooks massive. You deserve congratulations. It's great to see you again. I told you earlier whenever i facetime you. Believable do do you think fat. It looks like you're still in really good shape. I'm pump for you now. I got three three times. The only time they want to do is go out sodden run so that's my cardio every day so it's been working ever since i retired so everything's good right now all right. Let's dive into it. Let's dive into it so at corner you know. It's like greatest athletes on the field. Right i think most nfl players would agree with that. Most football players would agree with that. Like hey the corner is the most dynamic athlete we have. Because they are being tasked with reacting to the greatest athletes in everybody's at all times with this executive and howard situation and then i went back to durell rivas corners. No that there's only certain window that your body is going to be able to be a top guy for right like that is something that is very understood and is that where it's coming from you. Yeah i mean. I think he's just opponent career where he knows. He's in the middle of this problem. I mean you get ten interceptions last year and the number one clone on the miami dolphins. I think he knows his value and everything. That's going on right now. He's just trying to find the best situation to capitalize the most that he can write well while he has all the leverage. And when you look at the situation in miami wood floors and they've done a good job and turn net organization around but you know everybody knows the new england tight guys Is a certain way how they run their organization. And i don't think eggs avian is really fit for that That model that style. So i think that's why he's voicing his opinion about one to get trade and just put in a better situation that just fits his style so I think he's doing a good job. I mean if i'm coming off a year ten picks. I'm gonna try to shake some things up to get ready to bag. Write this thing on out. I would as well and especially played corner. We're talking to eight year. Nfl vet Gerard powers he was drafting with third-round. There around your sir came out early to write came out early. Came out early in the old tough. Scc oh jeez. What are you guys doing trying to buy every school by the way. Is this what we're doing going to take all the big names from every conference and try to make no. We're like the pretty girl of the bunch. Everybody wants us to be a part of our party. You know we're not. We're not searching for anybody. We don't need it rea- really don't need to add anybody but You talk about texas and oklahoma. They bring value Fan bases you know their historic. You know organizations that they have in themselves you know so you got to the. Sec is just going to make it even even better but it's not gonna win so we'll see. You guys are never gonna win. Auburn is ever going again. You are done denver water because guy. That's another topic. We can wait. We can wait two saturdays to start talking about that but We've got talk. Some people. this year is gonna do a good job. I'm gonna shock people this year just signed to what twenty thirty or saving lifetime deal. He said deathbed deal. I will opt out of this on my deathbed. Hey war eagle donner draw. Let's get back to the the nfl though. You're a great teammate. Great corner at what point in being a corner d you realize there's some places you'll do great there are some places you want like. Are there certain places and if exhibiting goes to. He knows he'll be great in. Are there certain defenses. That he should want to go to or is there places that are definitely interested in exhibit in your eyes. You think. yeah. I think I think it's just one of them situation. Like for instance like with us. We got drafted was pulling we. Were pulling in guys when you come into the league as a rookie and all that type of stuff. You're only going to be accustomed to what you know. And that's obviously your draft team but when you look at xavier bands. Joseph was the god that drafted him in miami. He was his and you know with him being in arizona You just think that's the perfect fit. You know where he can go. And then you look at arizona situation you know you. You let pat. P. walkout so corner is a big need in a big spot that you're looking to feel on your defense in so why not try to get one of the best corners in the league. Who's coming off a hell of year. You know with the ten picks and then he can be reunited with the coach at actually drafted him. So it won't be like your draft and a guy that has to learn. All these new systems these new terminology. You'll be drafting. A guy that knows the defense already. And and is playing at a high level and with arizona sign. Jj watt you know you put on your all your chips and a basket you sign. Aj green you. Put all your tips in a basket and try to win this thing. This year Is not like a rebuilding process. So it's just one of those things that you would think that if we can xavien howard feel that cornerback role going gonna put our defense over that that we need. Because you definitely need a lockdown corner. I mean you got decay metcalf you got you got all these top. The you got the vikings to you got all these top receivers going to have to face weekend week out. You know we mass stafford over there with the rams and all the receivers that they got so you just know you're gonna have to have some some elite level. Cornerback play on your defense to hold things down. And i just how would be a great fit in arizona that they can make that happen and you tweet. It's a pro football focus. After they said that that would be a dream scenario for both sides. You said that miami actually offered them this trae earlier this year and the cards turned it down. That riady know that i got. I got a source for land. That's real Now i don't know if it was like the paperwork of the trade or however at work but i do know miami restyle about trying to do a player for player deal with chandler jones then you look at chandler jones who was he drafted by a new england guy right floors so you just think that you know it fit with channel jones going to miami but that did happen early in the year and And i think with the chandler jones requesting a trade and everything kind of blindsided sided arizona. A little bit just because they weren't expecting anything like this to happen but arizona was in a good spot. You know you had hassan who i think signed with carolina who was No they're number one draft pick a few years ago. You could assign him so a minimum. Do not a minimum deal but saad for lesser money and got damian howard ship chandler to to miami and everybody's still would have been happy you got. Jj watt you still got another pass rusher and all that so i thought it was just a good a good fit in a good scenario for both sides But that that was earlier in the year when they tried to do that..

"Organization internally is focusing on that's gotta be a win the division take care of this division handle our business once we get out of it all the rest of it will handle itself but make sure we're fine focused men on what's really important and now home game in the playoffs but winning our division jeopardy about the hard knocks of at all well as professor tanenbaum says yes it does benefit teams having cameras and extra is on them in practice. But i would also say. When's the last time that we saw hard knocks team. Make big playoff run. Make a big super bowl push. Has there ever been a hard knocks. Team professor tanenbaum. That's gone on to win the lombardi trophy. forget about vince. lombardi's practices being taped. What about the vince. Lombardi trophy for a hard knocks team. Is that happened. We had durell rivas holding out on national tv and we had hard knocks and we went to the championship game so while we might short of winning the whole thing. We didn't want a couple of playoff games and net net positive for us has been about. Yeah beat peyton manning on the road in the playoffs that year. Be tom brady on the road in the playoffs that year so it didn't work against them in that case but no to your point shefty. No team has won the super bowl after being on hard knocks and again if if they played the super bowl in july cowboys would be a lock. But we'll see what was happening. After in the meantime this is not a good story. What i'm about to show you. But but but there is a side to it. That is fascinating. So the falcons kicker young who was the victim of grand theft auto this past weekend and he posted an image of an empty parking place and wrote that someone stole his jeep and then he will. can you. just bring back my cleats and jeff saturday. You're going to explain to everyone who wouldn't otherwise understand why that was exactly the reaction. You expected him to have kickers. Insanity greening obviously awful. Somebody stole his jeep but my favorite point of it is only cares about his cleats. I mean what you know. How tight is it on. Game day visit fit right you know. What kind of do i have to work. This is the can kickers are crazy when it comes to their cleese and how they prepare. This has thrown him into a completely different stratosphere again. Keep the jeep you can have. It remark leaps back. So at least. I can get my mind right for the season. I i mean this is you could go into every kickers had every kicker. Nfl would say the same thing may just bring mcleese back man. That's all i mean. Just just bring those some kind of good luck charm. On so i love. I love his response to it. Just about the cleats obviously that about the jeep and this is what he subsequently set. He said. Just bring him back. I won't be mad. Keep the car. I just need the cleats. So i can go out and start kicking. We'll see we'll stay in the division as we continue in a moment saquon barkley. Can the giants win the division. If arkley isn't back to his best you'll hear what he said yesterday. That should worry the fans of the new york. Giants plus big perk. Calling out saint pete three. The big fella had to say about his latest performance. Is he right. We get that. In acts perfecting the game takes more time than learning the rules. And a good coach.

You would have worn like jean shorts and cowboy boots. Well i've i've got their overall. It's like a one piece overall thing. So they're like. Are they short to go all the way down. They go all the way down. I'm gonna call them. Just it's warm summertime betty. I'm going to be cutting. And then i got the american flag crocs and i'm gonna wear and then we're gonna have the mullet with the lines in the side and the all reflector sunglass. You're going all out for this. Damn right i am as you are at al's gonna be wearing his captains outfit as we marry melissa and charlie spruce it on the yacht. I already got my captain's hat and my captain shirt has already arrived in. This is going to be great. So we're we're marrying to people. We are shaving big zoos back. Yup we i believe finer is going to be there joining us. Lot of hijinks lot of hijinks. You'll have a jordan. Davis playing alley are makeup. Artists said that jordan davis is her favorite country artists and wasn't just telling us that to make us feel better about it. Which is that's my favorite country artist. He's really big with the younger generation. And the number one pandora station. She listens to his jordan davis radio i was like wow how about that. And that's the guy we gotten. We secured the hot open coming country artists for the boomer and geo bo party is going to be great and we're going to be playing country music all morning long lake house all right. Let's go to adam in new jersey. What's going on at him. Hey what's up guy name man how you doing. I just wanted to say that i was at the winter classic back in two thousand twelve I was for the bathroom. I was twenty. Feet and philadelphia has the worst fans ever. This case came out of the bathroom. You couldn't have been no older than eight or nine has phased was honoring. His face was black. Any boothby from the doorway and went pass me. I couldn't believe it. But i mean i was getting harassed all day but i couldn't believe that kids that young. He's anger on his face when he saw me. My rangers great theon and he was just the angry semi just booth right. Adding that is totally not surprising at all of course especially when you think of their mascot now gritty reflects their team. They're mad they're fan base and everything else he's mischievous. He's always creating problems for further mascot. Here i mean they buy into the whole thing. Yeah when lasorda went after the philly fanatic. Was he serious. I remember this. I don't believe so. I think the philly fanatic sets these things up beforehand and they have a lot of fun with the thing and other guy said. Let's just that recently. And he looked legitimately pissed. I was like. I wonder if that was a worker. He was actually angry. You also can't picture like somebody approaching lasorda. and say we'd like to do a bit with the fanatic and him going along with it. There's no way you know what guys i mean. Tommy lasorda is one of the funniest guys. Not on game day mark. No way you know. The thing about baseball is so monotonous. It's every day you see all the players screwing around in the dugout. We had like ill-assorted dummy that he was hitting the fanatic and then we'll sort of came out and rip it away from pushed them on the ground and go watch that. I saw for the first time in like twenty years. Okay go look it up right now. I want to look it up right now. Right now right now. Okay go lasorda. Do it on google. Don't do it on the being 'cause you'll never get data right here. We'll sort versus a fanatic. And then watch this and tell me that that's not lasorda. Being totally pissed off. I think it was in the meantime. We go mike in rocky point. What's going on mike morning. Guys how are you doing this morning. Got so a jet two thousand ten two thousand eleven playoff run. I had the privilege to go off three road. Playoff games next to the birth of my daughter's probably the highlight of my life. Why the indy. Indie fans are soft. We take the ferry from suffolk county to new england. We know how that game ended. There's about a minute left in the game. Fan turns to me and my buddies and says guys be careful leaving the stadium. They were gonna wanna kill you. Have my durell rivas jersey on. We had to get a police escort out of the building. We get into the parking lot. We're trying to back out of a spot. My buddies trying to back me out a limousine tries to run him over to run over guys tried to run them over to massachusetts state troopers. Come over. i wanna lock my up now. thank god we're in the law enforcement. They would they understood what was going on. We had to get a police escort out of the out of the back onto the road. It was absolutely insane. We drive to pittsburgh. There is not a better fan base in the there are very respectful. Yeah they they are mike. Listen i'm not surprised with those masol's up there anyway. So what are you. I by the way this whole thing is made up. You can tell that he's having fun with it. He tries to steal his four wheeler and the whole thing never smile and then they throw a baseball atom out of the dugout at at the fanatic. What he's writing off on his four wheel that total all made up. I don't think so. And tommy bought into it. And tommy was great now telling you act. I think we'll sort. It was legitimately mad now. I don't think. I don't think that the philly fanatic tommy lasorda on the same page. Think it was disrespectful. That's what i think. Yeah you could say that all you want to me that's Clearly an act and tommy bought into it and how great. It's kind of the monotony baseball. Yeah and they just you know. The fanatic is is a great. Let's face it. They they have to really tremendous mask. Ascot's yeah they do gritties new fanatics got gritties. Already got a reputation. I told you that. I talked to the pirate parrot. One day about if he could get another job. What would it be. And he said absolutely the fanatic really. What about the chicken. No he said the fanatic is the san diego chicken even around anymore. I don't think so. Yeah you know. It was the philly fanatic. Said that he gets paid the most. He gets the most endorsement stuff. It's the gold standard gritties right on his heels. There's no history there but it's created history and the name is great but you gotta admit that. I have to admit that i'm not a big mascot guy having a mascot at your winning loser move or cool. My nephew randy had mister met at his wedding. Okay so cool. I guess mr and mrs met mr and mrs met. I think i can't remember mrs met. Was there not did you well. Did you say when mr mrs met showed up to the receptionist is cooler. This is a loser. I just figured that was my nephew. That's my nephew's a little off. Did evan have. Mr met at his wedding request. I wasn't there for his wedding. But i'm sure i would imagine it something there some sort of mets paraphernalia or some sort of nonsense breaking met cake or something. Oh my god you see that birthday cake. I did see the birthday seriously. Two five year old birthday cake. I don't know what to say. But it's very on brand for the young man all.

"In 'certain is a good one and he's going to have to sort of deliver right away here with a a defense. That is again really good on paper. But also probably entering kind of a twilight contention window closing type type place. As far as his franchise goes. I'm trying to think of who would you say is the last will durell re this. Obviously but like the last rookie corner that came in and was challenged with the heavy work load and handled it really well like you. Maybe you'd say lattimore in new orleans I'm trying to think of somebody who who wasn't average and then became great. You know what i'm saying. It does seem like that's sort of the bell curve for for most rookie. Quarterback's a cornerback. At least no i Boy lattimore definitely. I'm sure if If i were smarter or better recall i could come up with some others but Be i don't know. And i'm also i'm trusting kyle fuller is going to be kyle fuller angelman all pro type guy on the other side of the field as long as these healthy so yeah. This is a big is a big ask of the rookie year. Coming up much like jenny. And i would remember. Kyle wilson first round draft. Pick of the two thousand. Ten jets was asked to be that third corner next to durell rivas in antonio cromartie and what happened. Kyle wilson got picked on all season and the defensive coordinator at tell us every thursday. Well he's the one getting all the targets because they don't want to throw at these other. Two guys so davis white comes to mind as contributed immediately as a rookie and was given number one corner responsibilities as soon as he was drafted But yeah. I think it's a good question connor. I'm sure we could go through year-by-year my recall is not the best but yeah i thought of white. That is a good one too. yeah and to. I mean jacksonville and atlanta both had first round corners going into last year. And i i don't know maybe i'm just basing it off of that but it always feels like these guys develop in their second and third years for some reason like it's just a little bit of a slower burn in terms of an investment. But i could be wrong there. It's just you know. I feel like that receiver. Some of those positions are just a little bit harder develop a at the beginning. I don't know yeah. I think corner is definitely one of those connor. Because you have to if you're thinking about the challenges for receiver of learning the complete. Nfl route tree which might be different from a limited rotarian college then on the corner. And it's that plus being able to anticipate and read the quarterbacks who are at a whole other level of trying to fool you. So i think it's one of the hardest positions to come in and contribute meaningfully as a rookie. There's a required precision to cornerback. Play that i think is awfully big thing that pick up on early in your career but With warmer days ahead a good night's rest can help us make the most of summer by boosting our wellbeing improving our.

"I just don't see them spending one moving assets which they've already done a lot of anyways and don't really have a ton of to begin with to capitalize on this particular window. Because i don't know that he helps you right now. Yes he helps you right now in the immediate future but for the long term plan. Like you're gonna pay him. You're gonna pay orlando brown. You're gonna lose other guys by paying those guys and they've succeeded without. Paying cornerback so far be overpaying is. I don't think that they're defensive. Coordinator values corner. Like i just think steve spagnolo is history is as deepens backs coach and i think he believes he can make his defense work despite what he has a corner i think he values what guys can do in the middle of the field. You values defensive. Line he value safeties can cover. He values the versatile piece like tyrone matthew. Whatever at any point in his history has shown us that he values in any sort of significant way cornerbacks because when he was the defense of corey that yeah the deepest coordinator for the giants in the first time around. We can all name a bunch of defenders on that team. They didn't have great corners when he went to the rams not like valued corner all that highly janoris jenkins but other than that wasn't like they had a bunch of dudes out there. I just don't think he values the position. And i think that's something that we sometimes lose sight of because we value it. I think steve spagnolo believes in his ability to get the most out of those guys and so he doesn't value the same way that we do. I think you guys ultimately may very well be right. That the chiefs actually won't take a look at this and actually pull the trigger on a move like that with a lot of the point. You made i i just i just think you got to look at it. I think you got at least take a look at it and see what it works. I know he doesn't value it or he hasn't shown to really value it. I can't think of what what was happening when he was with the eagles at work in those times there but i just i know he's a good coach and i know he could find a way to it work if he had or to figure out a way he could use a corner of the talents of xabi on howard at feel like he can find a way to use it if he were given that. But but overall This hasn't been their track record of of going at that position and continue to trade more assets like they have so you guys are probably right. I just hope they take a look at this and and and just see what they can do it. Potentially somewhere down the line that position gets gets maybe looked at. I still would rather have julio jones at his price then xavi and howard is out at of course that out. Yeah i wouldn't savion our To me out. Care what. Steve values that spec nola to me that that would change you. Roll your eyes at me like they will take you out. What's what's he gonna be durell rivas right last season's best season of his career. Let let me put it a different way. I think the upgrade that the chiefs would get at number two wide receiver. Julio jones would be more significant than the upper grade that they would get at number two cornerbacks as and howard and that's not to be littlewoods. Avian howard as a tremendous football player. I just that is how. I value their receivers right now compared to their corners. Well yeah. I think they would get a number one corner like to be i. Don't i think they would then finally have a number one type corner and now just don't believe. Yea he's imposter right impostor. Do it right now. Speaking of that the game. That's sweeping the nation. Certified certified or imposter isn't it. I didn't know where i was going to go a really didn't it till my man mike guy mr oakley's mr coors light. Mr adidas pat mahomes himself came out and let us all know. Exactly how feels about justin herbert in the la chargers and he said it himself so many words that they are how. I believe imposters. What did he say. I see it when i believe it. Actually i believe he said i believe it when i see it. But he was a little he had a couple of pops in but he said i see it when i believe it because he believes that the chargers and just herbert or imposters. It is clear. Don't care what statement he made. Afterwards he does not respect just in her he does it. And i'm fine with it and i'm here for pet oto when you were little. We had a few drinks and you told the truth and you was calm us. Calm and comfortable at the at the golf tournament. That was the real. That was the real. Not this oh. I totally respect just in her but now he believes imposter this week. Justin herber in the tortoise. Thanks pat how did you feel about the cleveland. Browns after their twenty nineteen season. Lovely like the second best team in the afc. Oh god not. After last year after twenty nineteen when freddie kitchens had just been their head coach and they went six and ten bad. I felt bad talented talented team which what's imparts. That didn't seem to work together. How'd you feel about him. After last year they're coming right. Took great steps in the afc title. Game against the chiefs hip apology. We're going to feel the same way about the chargers after this year. The chargers are about to take the step this year. Round took last year The browns last year. What they did is they built in the smart way. They had devalued their offense of line. They had not put enough emphasis in getting the right coach into place and they had a great pass. Rush to go along with a revamped defensive backfield i just basically described the la chargers of twenty twenty one into the biggest difference. The chargers have a quarterback. I the browns have baker whose fine. i think. He's a really good game manager. And i don't say that to belittle him i. I think that's kind of what he is. And he's a really good game manager. His kirk cousins at best. Yeah maybe a little better. You could get a little bit more out of him. I don't think he has the same issues with turnovers that Cousins as but justin. Herbert can make place. And that's the big difference is the reason why in the future i think. The chargers have more ability to be a legit like threat to the chiefs. And when i say that they're going to take them down but a team that you actually enjoy going up against year-by-year is because they've got the quarterback right. They've got the right quarterback in place. And i think they got the right coach. Place this year with brandon. Staley so i look at them. This year. the way. I looked at the browns going into last season. I don't think they're a super bowl threat but they're absolutely it's in. That could win ten. Maybe eleven gains. Now we're pat. I believe it when i see listen. They are talented team. They really are defensively their best players to me i. There's a countdown. They're going to get injured That's i mean. Just if i go by evidence of what i've seen before derwin james who is. I think very very talented. I just felt like. I haven't seen him play in two years when he get hurt. Joey bosa always has a leg injury of some sorts. And so we'll see those guys. If you get seventeen weeks out of those guys you got something potentially because those are game changing guys. We'll see how they are. Healthwise i want.

The blair witch project was released. Now this movie. I think was ahead of its time before cell phone footage before we were used to seeing grainy footage or footage that was hand-held and shaky along comes this movie about these kids in the woods. And there's a ghost and i just remember remember being terrified and to be honest. I don't think i've gone back to a scary movie since. Not because i don't like the experience but i don't think anything could top that original blair witch because now it's just turns and violent and i don't need a guy named jigsaw. Looks like a clown peeling back eyeballs. Like life is too short hostile. The hills have eyes. I'm a knicks fan. I have enough pain in my life. Okay i don't need to sign up and spend eighteen dollars to go get more. But the blair witch project this date in history nine hundred ninety nine a sundance movie. A watershed moment in film. Making an independent filmmaking. I think the film cost a dollar fifty to make and made six hundred million dollars. I think is something around that. I have to check the numbers. A couple of famous birthdays conor mcgregor one of my least favorite athletes. I'm not gonna lie watching. A guy breaks his ankle. Lie down on the ground in scream to his opponent that his wife's hating on them that's not sports to me. That's just a circus. So happy birthday hope. Your ankle feels better. He's always owed the big check from hitting the half court name in to consider baking the able to catch it in the end like such a great little random role for jackie earle. Haley derail rebus his birthday today with one of the great nicknames rivas islands because i think there's an art to having a sports nickname that also has your real name. It's not the splendid splinter where the say. Hey kid or the greek freak but having your real name as part of your nickname reverse island air jordan wade county. I love that. I think that's a lot harder to do durell rivas to such a great one. Yeah what do you got art at bow. You don't know diddley.

"That's going to be an interesting sort of informative Super bowl to an and maybe that helps change the market a little bit. Let's Let's go to the other side of the ball here. We're gonna call this. We'll call defensive lineman it it includes edge guys who who played standing up last year so this is sort of edge plus interior d. line But that's just way too wordy to say Defensive lineman here. I mean look. They're sort of been a. Let's let's call it a debate a discussion Across sort of nfl twitter nfl media about you know d. D want to build your. Would you rather have you rush. Built up or your secondary built up. I the way. I view it is this. Ideally you have you know five durell rivas type coverage guys on the back end and then you're you're feeling fine. I think the way the busy the the way this war displayed at this point. If you have a weakness in the secondary if you have one guy who is a liability now you have an issue whereas when you're building up your pass rush if you get one or two good guys and have one or two guys are kind of not effective you can still have agreed pass rush and if you have a great pass rush it obviously makes the lives of the guys on the back end much easier than it is if you if you can't get to the quarterback and can't bother him so The nice thing about shopping for a pass rusher is it's it's a position where they're the aggressor one guy can make a huge impact. That sort of has a chain reaction on the rest of your defense. And i think that's why it's still worth paying for these guys. If if it's the right guy maybe not overpaying but if you have a guy who you feel is is truly a difference maker. That's that's the way to go. And that's a way to upgrade your entire secondary without actually trying to shop around and and sort of building a a at a at a reactionary position that also involves a lot of chemistry in it. I agree and this is like to continue for my last point. This is a super bowl. That was super informative on the value of pass rushing and. I think that you know to think that that doesn't matter. Like i remember covering the giants in two thousand thirteen and it was the year after the seattle seahawks had crushed the denver broncos in the super bowl and so what did every single embattled general manager do they went out and got big cornerbacks. Big lengthy cornerbacks to thump. At the line of scrimmage and you know the market for them was just bonkers for year and guys bad guys were getting big deals right and so now you look at this Jason pierre paulin shaq barrett totally destroyed teams in the super bowl..
