"dugo" Discussed on Red Sox Beat

"I think for the Red Sox to give the Tampa Bay Rays, all they can handle and have a chance to win the best out of 5 series. So it's funny. I was talking to Matt McCarthy from 98 5 of the sports club last night. And he brought up an interesting point that the Red Sox just on the way he's performed actually might be a better lineup without shady Martinez in. And obviously, you know, the discounts a few things there because he's a value part of the team. You want him around, but given kind of what they did at the deadline and the way their roster looks, it allows you to DH schwarber, which helps you defensively in the outfield that gets Kiki, Hernandez in the outfield. We saw last night, how important having KK Hernandez out there is for dugo misplaced that ball and left field in Hernandez stops that run from scoring by a lot and look, Phil Nevin shouldn't have sent Aaron judge, but they Hernandez in Bogart still made the play and that was another turning moment in that game. By the way, a quick PS, a PostScript to that play. Yes, it was probably a terrible decision by Phil Nevin to send Aaron judge on that play at the plate. The next play was a pop out the third base. He likely doesn't score and really what I think is going through Nevin's mind at that point and I don't think Alex Rodriguez was thinking of this when he criticized him and Vasquez in the same way. The Yankees were not hitting Nate of Aldi. They felt desperate. We need to get this second run in to put some pressure on avadi. That's why he was sent to the plate. Had the Yankees been showing the ability to work of Aldi, get that pitch count up. And we're hitting them all over Fenway Park. Different story. I don't think he does send them. But because they were struggling so badly, the Yankee offense was not getting anything out of anybody. I think that's why they decided to well that's why Nevin decided to send him. So that's a really interesting point actually, because if you go back, you watch that replay, neva never really looks at the ball. He's kind of just watching judge the whole time. Right. And I wondered why he did that. You know, you wouldn't, it's his job to kind of see where the play is at because the runner's not looking and let the runner know whether or not to go. And Nevin's not looking at the play. And I was like, am I looking at this wrong? Is he out of it? Did I miss something, but what you're saying now actually makes sense because he and his head knew he had to send him regardless of where the ball was. So that that would actually explain where he was looking. So that's a very interesting point. But yeah, you know, I thought that that, how did we get into this again? I thought that that was a turning point in the game. And yeah, so I mean that was maybe play in the game. So I think that there is inherent value when he comes back..

Rays Beat Red Sox 12-7

"We gotta start with a crazy game in boston. Yesterday the tampa bay rays against the red sox early on it looked like the red sox. We're going to be in control. You'll launch weighing line drive down. Alethia likes the extra bases hits the track roles in the corner. What run is scored. Here comes j. d. wrapping held at third. It's an rbi double a to double for doll back. And the red sox lead sixth one. Joe castiglione w e ninety three point seven. Fm the red sox would extend their lead to seven to one. But you know what the race came back on the pitch swing and a fly ball to center field but while it's gonna pushback for dugo. He's on the worst track and it's going to clear the basis wall scores arose arena. Scores rocco scores toward a third is what goes into the dug up bed crews will come around and score fair chris. Oh wait as indeed quite back in it. It's seventy five w da with that call right there. Yep so look at college. Whoever's been really good offensively but there's no doubt that When you work to get him into the lineup it means it's going to be defensive compromises and other parts and we showed that yesterday for alex purdue go playing center field. The adventures were not over. Here comes to meadows swinging a high dr straightaway center moving back for go back to the track till the wall off the top of the wall and terrorist experts. The infield metals are second. He's going to try for third waving of these ona's way to the play and it did homer on those and we're all tied up and could hear the boston fans booing at the end of that clip right there from w. da. The two sides went into extra innings. This happened swinging ally dr underneath the glove of the first basement. Cordeiro down the right field line. Here comes a rose arena. Baseball Fans Behaving Badly Have Got to Go

"Dugo kerfuffle over the baseball barely going to touch on this. I would say only that verdoux goes response. You know you can't throw a baseball at people I don't really care if it was an accident or not You know reports from the stands claim that the person who threw the baseball getting bullied by other yankee fans to throw it back onto the field and he did and he hit alex for do go with the baseball verduga panicked and screamed at everybody a lot of pent up frustration there. Yeah gotta throw that guy out. Sorry i can't stay and watch baseball would love this same energy though. Who reared up over the green monster in two thousand eighteen and chuck to baseball all the way back in the field and hit giancarlo stanton at second base rounding the bases on his home. Run i've heard from a lot of people saying that Throwing a baseball back after homerun is tradition. Throwing a baseball back in the middle of the sixth inning is not tradition. Okay yeah but maybe you should be throwing a baseball ever and then for the guy I've also seen a lot of people saying you know. He threw it from close range right of redo go. There's no way that the fan throwing the ball knew he could be hitting stanton from that far away. Well that guy reared back and through baseball from the left field stands all the way to second base so you didn't think he was hitting stanton but he's certainly didn't think he was avoiding players with his baseball because when you rear back and try to throw the ball two hundred feet. You're getting pretty close to the baseball players. Baseball players are on the dirt and on the grass. That's where the baseball players are. So when you're huckabee'll that hard you know the ball's gonna land near some Some baseball guys.

"Richard zabel bit of a no hitter going. We get a little while. Garrett could literally never be garbage got ross. So what top here. I wanted to ask a red sox. Fan who is very level headed. I think in you. And wanna know if if you guys have come to terms with the mookie betts raid or what the healing process has been. Because i've been watching. A lot of alex perdue go this year. And it's not it's not a good straight up trade but alex for dugo is frigging pretty good and he fits the identity of your team. I think perfectly. So what's what's it been like over the last year yourself. You know..

"But we're going to bounce back and forth now for our top outfielders and we're gonna start in the national league ronald reagan junior top number. One vote yet right now. Number two is nicholas. Castanos number of three in the american league is jesse winker number. Four in the national league is Mookie betts number five. There these go all the way to nine by the number. Five is one soto sixes. Chris taylor seven is bryce harper eight trent grisham and the ninth is kettle marseille In the american league in first place is mike trout. Number two is aaron. judge number. Three is byron buxton number. Four is let's see number four is all these garcia number. Five is Tesco test car says number six is randall. Critic and number seven is let's see number seven number seven alex dugo and then number eight and nine number eight randy rose arena and number nine michael brantley so i vote in my opinion in the national league. It doesn't go to route kuni junior raccoon. Juniors having a great year eighteen home runs thirty nine rb is nine hundred eighty seven and he's hitting two eighty two right now but i like nicholas cast janos because he's hitting three fifty seven. He has thirty He has a little bit more home. Runs or actually. He has less home runs but he has Just a little bit less. Rb is but his co. ps is better overall and festively. He's doing very well this season. And that's the same reason that i'm also going to be voting for jesse winker in my second vote over here at the nationally but i will go with our my first vote in the american league and i i would tend to agree that that has to go to mike trout but that is not going to end up being a a. Because trout's hurt that's not gonna end up being an actual pick and instead i think we should just vote for you know our our top guy number two was aaron judge to eighty nine so far this year. Fifteen home runs thirty five. Rbi's nine twenty on base or opie s. and i i don't hate that pick At all actually. In fact i ca i kinda like it but i don't necessarily love The the i. I don't love him being the number one vote especially when byron buxton Before he got hurt he was hitting three seventy And i i really like. I really like buxton. The the outfielders are going to take take awhile on me. But i think judge deserves to be a star so i vote for them goes goes over there and then for our second vote. You have guy in the national league you have guys like couch warburg. Who are having decent. Like they're having okay years. Nixon zales having a decent year for him one soto having a decent year but jesse winker in my opinion is is the number two best outfielder in the national league. Right now i. I don't think that it's really that close. I think that those two guys are two of the best players of really in in the In the national league right now so we have two more picks in the american league in one more in the national league i bake in the american league went to aaron judge and the second pick and now is is probably gonna go to. I mean michael. Brantley is good. But i and i don't know win byron buxton is gonna come back in fact like Like i mean. I i really. It's just really going to be hard to tell when when guys are gonna be coming back like nobody really knows what Trout irwin. Trout's gonna come back. There's a possibility that he comes back at the end of the year but buxton is back with the twins but he wasn't ready to return last night so i think that the fact that buxton is back and has a chance is is to continually left off however unlikely. I think that's enough for us to give him a vote in just because of how fantastic was the beginning of this year. Now my last vote in the american league route kuni junior. Mookie betts charlie blackmon the renzo. Cain michael conforto. Trent grisham ian. Bryce harper mean. Jason heyward ender inciarte say kettle mark. Tae age mccutchen wil myers brandon. Nimmo having a or hitting the heck out of the ball though Tyler o.'neil saint louis it. This is a very very tough decision. I'll visa of the garcia with the brewers. It's this is a very very tough call. But i do think that ronald junior is the third best at least right now through the first couple of months of the season and our last vote for an outfielder in the american league. Right now the best average out of everybody there is going to go to michael brantley but the best home runs at everybody's at everybody left his a tie. Between all all these garcia and mitch haniger Garcia gets the top in. Rbi's by a little bit and six but only gets the s up by plus point point. Three oh three actually. It's this is a tough tough one to really go by But i do. I do love Both of these guys i think. All these garcia just edges out mitch. Haniger he has his batting average is a little bit better But like there's i mean it's a tough it's a tough one to to really pick from and then now up next we have The d. h. The american league gets a d. h. Though so you to pick to you guys out of all these. And i feel like it's pretty obvious you as you have like jd. Martinez shohei ohtani on alvarez. Your mercedes You have mitch moreland niki. Lopez from meal race giancarlo stanton. I mean nelson cruz is having a year But i think that you gotta give one definitely to a tiny but now there's two other guys that are hitting over three hundred that you have to leave off. You might have to leave off your don alvarez or jd martinez gets the edge in home runs. Rbi's extra-base hits and opie s. And i mean he actually has it on all of the offensive categories and. I think that's probably where we're going to have to do is vote for a tiny and then And then if you were to go a second time go and vote for the other two guys but our Our review we will review here in just a second and I mean like i. I think we put together pretty good squad and then i will and then the rest of this segment is is just going to be us figuring out Well just figuring out who who were going to be. Starting a i call on the mound But at first base for the oldest american league versus national league At first base. I have jared walsh second base nick madrigal third base jose ramirez shortstop zander bogart's outfield position. Number one all these garcia. Aaron judge byron buxton mike as a catcher and shohei ohtani as the d. h. First base for the national league. Max muncie second base gestures and home junior third base. Evan longoria shortstop traits hearner outfield. Ronaldo kunia junior jesse winker nicholas castanos. Catcher yati molina and if i had to pick a d. h. I'd probably go with Fernando tatis Or i mean. There's there's a couple of really good guys you go with bryce harper I mean the. There's just a ton of different guys that you could. You could have as a really as your.

"We did have a A trade godown wasn't a blockbuster. But i think certainly noteworthy is that. The red sox have been shopping. Andrew benintendi for quite a while. Now and i didn't understand why this guy was a top ten pick by the red sox not that long ago but here are the details in this three way trade between boston. The mets and kansas city. The red sox receive outfielder slash d. H. franci cordeiro Right handed pitcher josh win. Chaussee three players to be named later one from the mets to from the royals. The royals get outfielder. Andrew benintendi and the mets received outfielder khalil. ali now benintendi. As soon as he showed up last year he got hurt and he was offered a year. He only played like two weeks and batted one. Oh three he had a strained ribcage but coming into last season he was a career. Two seventy seven hitter and averages about eighteen home runs a game and he's due to make six point six million this year in his second. Rv'er so he has Another year. Sorry i know he has another two years after that. So i argue but the royals will now put benintendi in left field every day because if you think about with mary field i guess he's an outfielder our second baseman so a combination of him. Edward olive arison. Michael eight taylor. But the red sox for their part we'll get cordeiro which is a mix of alex dugo number. How highly regarded wasn't a dodger system. Hunter renfrow talked about yesterday as blooms gonna take a chance on him and that park but cordeiro as to thirty six hitter and he strikes out thirty five percent of his trips to the plate

"A ton of time to to prove. Who's truly the best and they might want to expand the playoffs in the playoffs voice been known to be Kinda random. But It. To sit there and kind of judge. The caliber of the schedule, and all that it all falls back to what's the alternatives and the alternative in this case is probably base. So it sounds like you don't need to necessarily sign up an asterisk on this season. But you and I talked earlier. I like the thought of almost putting him off in parentheses, and what I mean by that is if Lafayette Devers hits four hundred this year. We got to be able to explain he did that. Eighty two games, not one hundred and sixty two games I there is. Is a difference and you know the the fact that the American League home run leader. This year might have nineteen. Right I? Mean one hundred years from now. You gotta be able to explain that I am I wrong on that I am not big on just flipping asterisks around, but I think you've got gotTa have some sort of nomenclature that says this was a one off. Yet particularly in the statistical discussions when my truck goes into the hall of fame. It'll come back up. People will remember. What would his home run total? He was able to play a full twenty twenty season, and so you'll always have those kind of moments. I don't think you'll have people questioning the merits of a champion. People don't look back on the ninety five season and wonder about the braves. It's different circumstances up to a strike, but. It won't be forgotten. It can't be but again. That there is intriguing that there is intriguing in. The oddity of it and the sports that that likes to auditees you and me. Yeah now. It kinda comes with the territory anyway. Let me keep it with our last few minutes together here. At least a little bit, are you surprised? I know it hasn't really made a difference to you. 'cause you're not on the beat anymore, but. Ron, rennick he's been made available to the media twice. Oliver Dugo once Chris sale once. And I think a lot of red sox fans, and of course media, types, or just kinda let wanting a little bit. Is that the smart play? Do you think by the Red Sox? Because maybe it's just what can be gained by saying anything about anything right now, right? Yeah if you look around, the League doesn't seem to be a ton of players talking and it's very much team, two team the accessibility, but even executives. You're not seeing a lot of GM's talk, either and that's because a lot of times when there's a labor issue going on, you don't want club, person or player necessarily Harming or position whether that's you know requests from. the Red Sox it might be a request, but but the it is a sensitive time, and so does not surprise me that. The sensitivity plays out with. Lowered availability basically. Let me keep it red sox and ask you kind of a weird one. was there a Kevin Polar era in red? SOX history. If no baseball is played this year. I mean I. Did see him in Spring Training, so does that count. Yeah I think on a technical level account because one of the things that the union pushed hard for got from the League was service time for twenty twenty in the event of a canceled season, so mookie Betts still becomes a free agent because it would be as he played a year so. Yeah, he was there to me in discussion. Somebody who gets traded for day to team, but never played for that team was the team. I would argue he was. He was their property in..

"Is here in Los Angeles for Mookie. Betts might not play for the dodgers. The Astros took out the dodgers. The RED SOX ARE CROWING VIRUS. If the dodgers don't play your window of opportunity closeness when a championship when mark saying is one hundred percent true under the agreement that the Players Association made with management in Baseball. If we don't play baseball this year at all Mookie Betts still gets a year of service time which means the dodge is contracts up and the dodgers deal they gave away. How very fine Young player Alex for Dugo means that he will never play for the dodgers unless the dodgers outbid everybody else for his services as a free agent so this is most interesting indeed. What's going on but again there's a there was a guy in southern California who never right except once when he said the world of sports is after all the toy department and. There's no question about that. I used to open every show mark and I think you know this. "Readers hey welcome back to another exciting episode of rhetoric podcast first of all. We're going to have to review some books that we read recently. Royal has been reading a lot lately. I have not so. We're going to talk about a book that Anna's red actually December was a slow re month for me but a book I did read recently was nine house by Lebron Dugo. It's the first book in the Alex Stern series. I guess I actually really really enjoyed it. The premise of the book is what they'll secret. Societies is in Yale. Were more than just a place for entitled privileged future presidents or CEOS to feel special. What if there was something more to them if they were as powerful as the ones in real life would like people to believe? What if there was actually magic involved would if they could actually have a real effect on what happened to world leaders or stock markets or anything right so do interrupt? Those of our listeners haven't heard my one reference point for this would be how how there's a skull and bones society in Yale which is like exclusive club. I believe George W Bush is a former member of that or are you a member for life. Yes you are remember for life. So they're high-powered alumnus are the ones that help donate shit and money to these places running so basically basically I think a lot of people have heard about the skull bone society because it has kind of a bad ass name and former presidents who was part of it and then apparently aside from that there's a bunch of other societies. This might be like similar to how you have the Greek life on campus fraternities. It's like an older form of that is what I'm assuming I wouldn't compared to fraternities. I had heard of a few like I had heard of scroll and key I'd ever of skull and bones. I'd heard of book and snake but there's like I think seven other the main ones and there's some that are trying to like get back into standing. I feel like you could talk about these yell. Societies for Africa's like so much about them individually lose. I felt like maybe some people hadn't heard about it before so I just wanted to bring up the fact that it is like kind of a real thing now that it is very much a real aspect of it that the societies Friday's exists in this world created by Lee Bargo new haven assertive like Sunny Dow in the buffy version of buffy. The Vampire slayer something about new haven attracts ax magic and it's what allows US societies to build their tombs over these power vortexes and that allows them to channel the Magic to help the powerful alumni of of the societies in various ways so they predict the stock market they can change the stock market. You know it can help members right. The next hit novel the next hit saw or become the next great performer. Former you can foment political chain revolution by doing these different rituals. There's real power involved so in this book there are eight main societies as including skull and bones. And Scroll and key which we've mentioned earlier and they have you know like I said various rituals involving the supernatural. So these rituals are overseen by the eponymous. Animist ninth house leaf. House leaf is around to make sure that whatever magic the other houses are doing and it doesn't go rogue and hurt the students at Yale or the citizens of new haven and they're there to make sure the ghosts of new haven. Don't interfere with the RITU is being done. And they're also a watchdog kind of to make sure that the societies don't don't take advantage of the innocent civilians around them and to make sure they keep their ritual safe and secret. Arming character is twenty year old galaxy. Alex Stern She's a freshman at Yale but she isn't what anyone would consider a traditional Yale student. She dropped out of high school she sold drugs. She's still from her mom and she was actually found in apartment with a bunch of people bludgeoned to death along with her best friend. Who had odid? But what got her into. Yahoo was her ability to see the grays or ghosts and that attract the attention of leaf house and got her into yell as lead houses news. Dante which is the codename for the apprentices learning the ropes from the upperclassmen Kazman known as Virgil so. Alex's Virgil is a kid Kade Darlington and he's actually mysteriously disappeared through some Porto part way through the semester and is now to Alex to keep things under control while being half trained also navigating her way through her first year at Yale as some who really doesn't fit in and then there's a murder of a young female townie called Tara and that happens the same night. One of the prognostications of ritualised went awry so alex can't keep her curiosity from getting the better of her which sets sets off a chain of events that no one could have seen government so the story is told in a variety of ways. We have present day Alex telling his story of terrorist murder and her investigation on its connection into the secret societies and then she reminisces about the past and how she ended up going down the path. She did so while the story line with tears. Murder feels like a bullet train in going. Full speed ahead. Alex's passes sort of doled out in drips and drabs but when it comes together it hits you the same way that that bullet train would hit you and we're also given another perspective were given Darlington's chapters from earlier in the semester before he disappears from his childhood when he first meets Alex etc etc.. And he's actually a fount of knowledge of new haven even and leave and he sort of the exposition INFO dump about leave House secret societies and new haven but we also get to know him almost as well as we get to know. Alex switch you know with how much Alex is. The main character of the book is really interesting. How much you get to know Darlington from the few chapters we get for him question? Okay if leave. The House has is a Dante and Virgil those are the people that have supernatural powers that allow them to like keep tabs on the other houses. What other members do they possibly need aside from two members? Here's Alex is a rarity. Not everyone who is in lead house has the ability to see grey's so just like the people in the other houses use magic to do stuff Darlington studied. The magic knows how to do that but they have some another person in the house. CODE-NAMED OCULUS and she sort of the person who takes care of lead houses his hangouts. You have centurion who is a detective in the new haven police force and he sort of if anything goes wrong and they need someone to take care of things officially chilly. He's there police person to do that. And then you also have someone in administration who has to oversee all the houses and he's sort of in charge of leave houses well so it's not very popular house guessing that a lot of people joining up with your selected. This is like a very very selection only based house the other houses like skull and bones or scroll and key are ones that you can try to get in if you are good enough or whatever but lead house is something. That is very very very selective. You're not joining it. It making you join them. Sounds like a raw deal. Imagine you're like you're like I'm going to join a secret society and and I'm going to become well connected to the rich and powerful in my life is going to be great and then you get drafted into this lead house. That's what these rich hoity-toity thank right. What about Lighthouse Alumni? Would they contribute money to it. They turn out like to be successful at all in life or is it just like a dead end becomes successful or any element mentioned it. The Book S. O.. And also if I recall correctly all the other houses have to pay lead house. A Ha- made the leap Taif. Yes this Bardo. Google fills this Yale with a cast of characters interacting or working or living with Alex to her sweetmeats who don't know anything about her secret life and just well until I take her out to parties and help her with her schoolwork. There's professors who take an interest in her. And then there's the people of Leave House and obviously none of these characters get the development or time that both Alex and Darlington get but there's never a feeling that Bardu goes just putting random cardboard cutouts in the story you know these characters feel like they belong in this world road and their interactions with Alex are normal and natural and Yale new haven themselves. They both come off as characters because they're written with so much care backstory in intrigue. The only thing I really know about Yale that Rory Gilmore went to yell girls. You never get a sense in the however many the seasons. That worry is in Yale that yeah our new haven there just set pieces but with this book. There's so much more given so much love and time and care the however many pages this book was gave me more insight on what yellow is like then Gilmore girls ever did. And that's probably because Lebron do go with T. l.. That's where she sort of obviously started getting adding this idea for this book in the first place interesting interesting. Do you think this book has been galloped brewing in the back of remind while she was writing her previous series. Yeah maybe this is her her first foray into adult fiction. She is very well known in the WII book community. Because she's had some big hits. I can definitely Seat how this would not have worked as a WII book by conflict. See how this was just sort of in the back of her mind. I've actually read some reviews of the book where people say they were bored and quit within one hundred pages and I have to say that personally. I didn't feel that way. I was intrigued by the mysteries. Murder Back Story of what Alex had to go through the missing missing golden boy and I actually couldn't put the book down. I was drawn in by the characters the world and even the writing it was book I just was sort of sucked lucked into I can see how if people don't have the opportunity to sit on interrupted for large chunks of time that could disrupt the flow of the book and maybe that we'll make less enjoyable but I feel like isn't that the case for most books that you sort of starting stop. I don't know what would make this book different. I think maybe if you were expecting one of her are widely books in the action comes quicker and there's less back story or no big world building. Maybe but I. I don't know it's hard to say. It's it's hard because a lot of the negative reviews are from people who did enjoy leave. Our do goes previous book so even liking her books doesn't guarantee that you'll like this book. I can say that I never actually read any of Hawaii books and I really enjoyed this book. "Angels dodgers gather, it's always a really big deal. So as part of that we're joining studio by outfielder the dodgers. He's having a big year to eighty seven on the year. Four home runs. Twenty eight runs batted in. He is ninth in the all star voting right now. He was a second round pick back in two thousand fourteen the dodgers have got the best record in the National League. They're tied for the best record in baseball. And again there at the angels tonight seven seven PM Pacific. I'm joined in studio by dodger outfielder Alex Dugo, Alex. It is good to see. How are you? I'm doing great Jim. Thank you for having good. Have you here? Are you impressed when my studio? Yeah. Love it. It's a came here, mainly dude. I thought it was much bigger. Hey, I'm gonna get the fans in our secret this brick right here is not even real. That's a lie man. Hey, actually might not be it might not be real. I knew I brought you in here, man. This is what happens. Man. Guys. Always calling me out. You're right though. You're exactly right. The thing reads well on TV or I see dropped a tough one of the angels last night. I know that you're not pleased with the result but angel stadium was packed for that game. Matt how fun is playing a game in June. When you have that kind of energy, and that kind of juice. It's amazing. I mean you know, just obviously we want to go out there. We wanna win every day. That's, that's the goal you know. That's what our organization preaches, but just to go out there and even on the road team road games home games. Like when we have forty thousand fifty thousand fans it's, it's one of those things man, you just step out of the box step out there on the field and it just hits you different you get a different feeling inside. You get you know you have a natural adrenaline that just kind of comes with watching you play. I've got a feeling like you have that adrenaline that energy, no matter where you are regardless of the stadium regards, as many people are there, in fact, a big part of the atmosphere in the clubhouse, KiKi Hernandez said. Overview. What somebody said about you earlier quote. He's very unique so far. We have welcomed it with open arms. He's playing his azoff for us, whatever it takes for us to win as long as is he's not taking it to an extreme where it's borderline disrespectful to anybody. He's not doing any of that. So it's been a lot of fun to watch so far. It's my question is this, how important is it for you to bring that energy day in and day out in no that your teammates can count on that juice, and that lift no matter what you're doing at the plate? Yeah. You know it's big. It's it's one of those things you wanna stay consistent baseball players. We talked about it a lot about writing the roller coaster. You know you wanna stay in the middle. For me being a high high energy guy kind of where my motions on my sleeve, I show when I get frustrated, I like to show it just, it's something that I've always played with. It's the passion you I love this game and I always want to succeed and be the guy who comes through for the team. So I hold myself very high to that. But yeah. Like he said it great. You know, it's just there's a point where, you know, you kinda go too much about yourself to where it does get disrespectful, or you kind of are taking away from the team. So for me, I try to find that happy medium, and you know, you wanna let all your frustration. And but you also want to flip the switch and get back to it. And you know, kind of reset do you wanna use the fuel? If you wanna use the fuel, it's kinda like Draymond green, like I just had to have to know how to channel it, you wanna use that fuel that's show anybody up or anything like that. And I know you don't wanna make it about yourself. Let me ask you this. I mentioned off the top your ninth in the all star voting at the moment, you need to stay in the top nine to advance to the next round of voting. Again. You're not. Focused on the personal honors. But how much would it mean to you to be in that top nine and what would it mean to advance? You know it's obviously one of the goals as being an athlete in a player, you want to through the course of the season, you want to win the World Series, but you also want to win these, these little things all star silver slugger. There's various awards that you can get gold glove. So for me, you know, I it's, it's cool to even know that I'm ninth in it right now. I've been on a little bit of a struggle just where my average has dropped. So, you know, the fact that I can flip the switch and get hot again and kind of, you know, boost those numbers backup. It's good to know. Alex do go joining me in studio. Dave Roberts said, if you last year, quote, he can essentially do anything on the baseball field day, Robert now. What's it mean to you to hear that kind of praise from your manager? Alive. I think it's something I've always kind of had like internally, we're, I've always wanted to be the best. I've always wanted, you know my game I never feel like it's, it's done growing. I always want to improve in every aspect, and whether it's offensive -ly hitting for more power or just, you know, getting base hits to, to stealing bases or making a plan. The outfield I've always wanted to be a complete complete all around player and help the team no matter what support of that's working on your mind, part of that's working on your body back in February. You posted an Instagram pick of you at the legendary Gill race you and I were talking about this off the man. I love jewelry race. I haven't talked to him in a number of years back when I was working with Andre Agassi. Those guys would have me out to the events. Get hang out. He come on the program. Got love this guy. I know somebody work out quite a bit. How did that relationship for a start? Yeah. Just throwing my cousins he was he was working with Andrea and, you know, like fifteen sixteen years old and able to go out to Vegas and kind of just introduce myself to Andrei, and Gill, and go to his gym, and touch base just kind of get to know each other and. Yeah, just I threw down from the first day. I went there and every day, I go there throw it down. And for Gil, he's a big he loves that he loves to see the heart, he wants to see you fight, and, you know, for me and him when we get in there. It's a lot more than just working out. It's also he's my mentor. He's like a father figure to me. So he's, he's really guided me in the right steps. Do the same thing for Andre Agassi, who is amazing amazing athlete, a hall of Famer which impression when you first met Andrei, what was he like, I mean, the most humble nicest, genuine guy, you can get like you know, it's just he truly cares about you and through all his success. You know how big he has been. In tennis? And you know what he's done outside of it. It's just for him to stay humble as he has. And you know, he'll talk to anybody as if he's known them for years. And it's just it's special it's, it's really fun. Yeah. Something keeps coming up to the fact that Gil grew up listening to the dodgers on the radio the same way in LA. I grew up in LA listening to the dodgers on the radio. So you're not just playing major league baseball. You're playing major league baseball for the LA dodgers. So what's it meet? You not only to be a major leaguer. But to be a dodger. It means everything for me. It's just I wouldn't want to be with any other organization. It's just I was drafted with the dodgers, I grew up through the system with them. And, you know, just being up here being with the guys and our fan base. It's it's nuts, man. It's is this is this is the place to be L amazing and our fans they get behind us, and they have our back in a couple of good things. And you kind of you kind of start blowing up. So it's a this is definitely the spot that you want to be. Alex for joining me for a couple more moments. Then you've got these great rivalries, you've got the dodgers angels. You're getting that on tonight. How about the dodgers and giants again man it can be cliche. But you really do through all that crap out. It doesn't matter when those teams get together man, there's some legitimate hate don't just mean the fans, will you tell me what's the rivalry like from a player's standpoint players standpoint is is really one of those things as soon as I was draft with the dodgers, we kind of, like they preach, you know, hey, we don't the giants, we don't like them like you know, we we every time we plan we beat them. We don't like them. They don't like us exactly. So it's it's one of those things and it's for us when we go play there. We don't we don't care about the record if they're doing good or bad. Like we just go there. We know it's the giants and we want to beat them down. So that's really that's really our mindset. I like it is so count data because believe me, they hate our guts. They hate our guts. So when you see max Muncie turned mad bum around the way he did. He wasn't two steps out of the box before that read, ask was coming for me. Nothing but respect mad love Madam. He's unbelievable. But you do not two steps out at box before he was John, Adam. What did you think what you saw that? The I mean I was a little fired up by soup is obviously months when he hits it. He drops a bag like that. But I thought it was I didn't think he'd pimped it bad at all. You know, I didn't think he looked at it. I thought he hit it news gone dot the bet and star running, the Bumgarner second pitcher of the game he was already John at the unpire, so I think he was already little mad. It was a day game. So he's already you little grumpy. But it was it was kinda also good. I think it kind of woke us up. And you know, kind of gave us that adrenalin, and we, we woke up quick for exactly. And again, I've got nothing but respect for what he's accomplished. But what do you make him or any other pitcher at this point saying, hey, meant put your head down and just run. I mean I feel like. That's their view. I feel like if I was a pitcher, and I was pitching someone hit a bomb off knee IV upset about it too. But that's the competitor me, you know, it's like I want to always I won't be better than the guy face. So for him to do it like, I'm not mad at it, but maybe, maybe not get to fired up about it. If it's that, like little the pimp, like I would understand if he stood in the box it landed into the, you know, the ocean and then he ran, but it was it looked fine to me, if he went Barry Bonds, pure wet or he went Jeffrey Leonard one flap down. Or he went backwards around the basis. That'd be one thing. You're exactly right. He just kind of flipped the bat of little bit in star to go. But I mean, if you hit them like that, you, you deserve to do whatever you want tobacco mother's day, really quickly. Your mom Shelley was one of four mothers throughout the first pitch. She said beforehand, she wasn't sure she'd be able to pull it off and she fired when right to you. What did you make a repair and what was that? Like it'd be out there with her. It was amazing. It was special her pitch. I thought she had the best pitch. It was a strike on the corner. Yeah, it was funny because, you know, the, the, the night before we were actually in my house, and she was throwing a baseball in my living room, you know with Braxton. Yes. Is back this if I step here, just told her I said, mom if I'm if I'm right in front of you just you step towards me and just try to throw in what was she? Like when you when you were coming up growing up and playing ball which she there, what was she, like she was my mom was was was absolutely? Like a trooper about it. You know, she was a pitcher to growing up. So, you know, fifteen years old, I was being I was getting eight ninety, you know, and my mom would be like, I would have to throw in my mom would be like, hey. Let's go in the backyard to me. And then I'll get thinking I'll get the catcher's gear on and I was like, mom. You're, you're crazy, like no way. Dodgers angels tonight. That game is seven seven PM Pacific. Another three to pitch for Dugo strikes out swaggie got up to go up ninety six again, for strikeout for Trevor God got swing mode. So victory here for Trevor God. Sometimes you wonder the point you were making about. Okay, hitters feel like he's got him time you throw that same pitch. But you get him to chase because he thinks. Well that's the one I want. Now that's the one I'm looking for. Specially up heartily up bitch. Really good. Here's key K or an end as he takes strike, and there's something softer the little breaking ball. Good quick. Curveball. TKO for three to down Lovie on infield straight up against her end as takes way outside the curve ball. Shadows of covered the entire infield now the center field and right field areas still bathed in sunshine, that hitters backdrop is still reflecting the sun, which started to go down behind us. Who it's over four hundred against the giants it under two hundred against the rest of the league should we be taken at personally, I think we should. To pitch is hit foul. Tomorrow against Bumgarner bachelor this book going to do up in a way to Bumgarner could hold onto just a four hundred. Batting average be an improvement. I don't think that doesn't grind the big band. Does on guard had been watching closely from the giants dugout end as strikes out swinging got it the curve ball. Beautiful ending pitching. "Mentioned it's the dodgers. I agree. I get it. I understand it. But when I say that Diaz has no out pitch. And these guys are. That's Alex Verdoux. Go you needed to strike out in the worst way. And he's fouling off pitch after pitch after pitch Verdoux go or sure do go or dingo it didn't matter. They were gonna lose the game was basis. Nobody. But that's not true. Because the Mets of the bases loaded. Nobody out in the dodgers. Got to have no problem. Double play. And you get out of the game was tied Alex for Dugo the game was tied at that point, they were done once a game was tied. They would give you something. Yeah. Get it over with then too late. You know until it was done. Everybody knew it when the game was tied at that, that game was over that was how he rose on WCBS eight eighty the aforementioned verti-. I'm Howie rose in winning sacked fly. Bottom nine dodgers win nine eight. The last straw on an epic meltdown by Edwin. Here's how LA greeted him in the ninth down. Eight five solo Homer, solo Homer double. Game-tying RBI, double intentional, walk infield single. And then the sacked fly to win it has offered. A blunt assess today was easily the worst the worst day of my career doors game. And my career pretty much sums it up that was through his translator. Mickey Callaway says he didn't come to hold on. I'm thinking, oh, he's going to get out of this, you know, we'll, we'll strike a couple of guys out, and then they get that third out, but it just didn't have he was looking for. Jerry was looking for. Now at that point, you have to of course, dodger scored single runs in the seventh and the eighth to give within striking distance one each off Robert because Selman and Jewish familia three homers. How about eight doubles in the game including the game tying gap from Cody Bellinger, in the ninth. There was a dodgers record. I was matched. I thought maybe tied it either way pretty what I still around a lot. Yeah. Seven hits and three runs off starter Noah Syndergaard as well. Calloway tips cat. Very good hitters, like I said, we were a little perplexed that some of the pitches, they hit it seemed like they were willing cupid with the really good stuff overshadowed in this collapsed. Pete Alonzo three for four two more homers. He's up to nineteen sucks to lose what he knows will bounce back next time he's been nails for us this year, and the most confidence that next time he gets the rock in his hands. He's going to show. I disagree with that. He's gonna shove it. You don't agree to that. And I know what the stats say just watching him. He always pitching into trouble, and you're not always going to get out of it and a spotlight. This, this was a I wanna say it was a huge game for them is a big game though it definitely was. And if you wanted for once for them to go into a series like this, where you didn't expect much from them, and they gave you something good teams throughout the year. That happens when was the last time you could say that about the Mets where well they went to that series on the road. Good team. They went in there. And they won that series. They took three out of four or they add a winning road trip where they came back, and they won six out of seven never happens with them, because they're not that good. I mean, that's what it comes down to a team like this, even when a look at a moment them starts going on their way. Something will bring them back to five hundred or a couple of losses in a row in reality smash back in the foot. That's the disappointing part. They were good enough last night, and they were let down by their closer and by and by familiar because again up eight three, the game should be over. I get credit for it for this strike. Justin charter to remain here. Crass coming into hoes. Cents each feed. C's ju students crimson final. Justin Turner who. I think we would probably all agree coming into the season. We thought was the dodgers best hitter. The guy that was the most consistent performer went through the entire month of April until last night without hitting a home run. His first Homer of the season. I mentioned it yesterday. Just kind of that the dodgers were playing as well as they have been without Justin Turner, without Cory Seager, really doing a lot of Turner finally gets his first Homer is that correct? Dodgers win ten three. Where's was organ? There is free to without. It's okay. Freeze hit a three run. Dr Turner, finally hits his first. Well, that's not what it says here. It says Turner find his his I just wanted to make sure we understand the rundown. It's right. I just feel relieved to finally get one out of their turnouts it. I can't stop talking about being the only guy on the team without him. Jeez. Everybody's in Homer. Everybody plays has hit a Homer walking with five point one innings and gave three runs on six hits six strikeouts. In one walk the dodgers improved to twenty and twelve with the victory. A one in one a one wind pace hinging. You re you think said that right? You did on the mound tonight on the run Rosh likes to call. It the bump against Madison Madison bun bun. Corner. Then you got a handful of other guys that were Dougal birdie plays, and he's got five for do goes a part timer, and he's got a handful of home runs. Raj and Verduga, they're second go. We're gonna get to see him a lot because AJ Pollick is placed on the I L. He might need surgery has an infection in his surgically repaired, right elbow. And this was the knock on AJ Pollock coming into this season. Was that he's a really good player? But he spends a ton of time in the trainer's room. And I mean, it's not his fault. He has an infection from surgery, it's not like he did something. But another injury air Pollick. Is gonna miss some time. It looks like the Coachella or different. Elbow infection. Hello says it right there. You know, we are blessed guys with an embarrassment of riches. And if you understand that we are still leading the NFL in total wins. I think he's still eating all baseball and total wins. Yes. With our presume MVP candidate at one point Cory Seager having a somewhat less than stellar season right now with JT our best hitter. Just getting his first home run with data freeze who was a hero in the postseason last year. Just hit his second home frizty when you look at that, you go where man guys that we thought we were leaning on and depending on our having mediocre best seasons. And yet we're still here. So big double play where the dodgers were really in in pretty good shape to to add on and the ball was smoked by KiKi. Hernandez ninety seven miles an hour off his back. But right to Crawford then to the seventh inning. Got a leadoff double in their half of the sixth against my eight. And that was the end of my night as Scott Alexander came in from the bullpen of the giants were just not able to get the big hit Posey never got past a second base. And through the first six the giants were ofa seven in those critical. The bats with runners in scoring position. The dodgers came right back against Dyson, and Alex Dugo led off the seventy with a single and he was still at first with one out when David freeze came up as a pinch hitter. Phrased did not hit one very well, buddy hitter. Nobody was and then a big defensive play one of the key defensive plays of the night for the giants won two is muscled over bell. That's gonna fall base. It just a blue belt chasing after par is going to be the guy to pick it up. We'll fire behind freeze with Tyson covering and Dyson tags him out. Great heads up play first of all Dyson. That's where he's supposed to be. And he was there and then belt got out of the way and deferred to paro who was coming toward the ball. "But but you'd rather have Poyton pied rather. Okay. Right. And then Cody bellinger's either in right, rather evanger than Alex for Dugo who's been really really really good and has a good arm really strong arm to he's been in the outfield jock been killing the ball this year, and you can still inter- inner change other guys. Yeah. Josh, Scott soy. Here's here's why. Here's why I disagree with you. I would have kept we simply because Steve something who said he was coming up on a free agent year. And there's nothing that guy cares. More about than getting a big deal. So he might. He might pull a beltway. Remember Adrian beltway. When he went into his free agent year hit forty eight home runs. Right. Puig might be that guy. Although he's terrible start. Yeah. So a lot of guys I mean like three hits, but well sort of Chris Davis now well online. On one game. Right. One game. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean is off to a terrible start. Now hearing all this completely get exactly why. And I for the. Sizzle that went along with Puig. That's what I miss like. I missed the the fund the enthusiasm the licking of the bat the wild throws from right field. The stretching a first knits reminds me of you. And I know Mike Dunleavy a little bit. And when Mike was coaching the blazers and then after that, he came in coach the clippers. I was out with him one night. I told him I said let me ask you some one year you were coaching Rasheed Wallace. And he got forty three technical fouls. Forty-three the next most of any player in the league was twelve. He had forty three said, why do you put up with that? What what's the point of putting up with a guy who kills you forty three types during the season for no reason? And he said because his talent outweighs the crap you have to put up with right? And so that's the question for Puig. Well, early in his career, clearly you couldn't give up on because you didn't know if he was going to be the next Roberto Clementi. Yup. Then he dipped last year do do the dodgers go to the World Series without peak. He made some good plays. He came seven in the NFC s big hits in the LCS's. Exactly. But you've now gone to the World Series two years in a row and lost. And it's partly because of you know, whether he plays like Justin Turner said whether he takes the game off or he doesn't. So can you? For this year going into another. You're you're hoping for third time. Are you willing to risk that I'll tell you to the World Series? This is a fascinating question, isn't it? Yeah. How how old is weak twenty-seven? Got that's early to give up on a guy with that much talent. But if all that stuff you said is true when he ate maze. Yep. Ripping up the analytics cards and not just showing up on time. And by the way, and then that game to that point the Alex bregman point that could have been the World Series that could have been the World Series making that catch. The dodgers could have been up tool instead they split. So I. I always thought getting rid of his a mistake, and I've moved str- right onto the fence right onto the now, I you guys are now over under the other side completely get it. Now, the fact that because it's one thing to hear this an general sense. It's another thing for a player like Justin Turner or Dave Roberts to come out and say took plays off. To hear stories about not paying attention to where to position himself in the outfield and tearing that card up in front of the outfield. Coach George lumbar that kind of stuff. You know, you you can't have it. You just can't have it. All right. Coming up next. Zach Lowe has said something. Okay. I love Zach Lowe, the low post that actually. "Now, he drives down the right field line. That is gonna fall base headed hits the base with a wall. In fact, coming into scores goes solarte's speeding into second base to throw in from Nick one is off line. And it's a sliding double for so. A two out RBI hit to make it to nothing giants. Yes. Spring training winding down as we are getting closer to opening day. Thank you very much for hanging out with me away. Kmby ours number drew Hoffer with you coming up next. We'll hear from Brandon Crawford. The giants was tied with the cubs today or yesterday. You know, it's very interesting to hear about or hear from giants fans really on social media about the corner outfield spots and how disappointed they are with with. And. And the lack of what's going on this year. Now you read today they got Connor Joe who was in the dodgers organization. Now what's going to happen with Pablo Sandoval? They're going to cut Pablo. Maybe I'm not advocating for, but maybe they will listen when Zaidi got the job, we knew things were going to be very different. Did we not things we're going to be an incredibly different? We got so used to a certain way around here with contracts and Sabians name, Bobby Bobby by Mattia care. Bob. We got so used to a certain way. Now, it's changing right before our eyes. And I think if Pablo gets cut that may be the first first move of that that new direction. I mean when it comes to the outfield in the corner office let let's just think back for a second. I really wish we'd get over this to be honest with you never going to have a set outfielder never going to have set alpha. There's going to be five or six outfielders because that's the way far haunt is. Go back to the dodgers. Chuck Peterson KiKi Hernandez, Cody Bellinger, all played center. They had that Alex Dugo. Everybody played everywhere. Matchup. Baseball's what far haunt ways. And that's what it's going to be for this team. Yes. They didn't get Giancarlo. They didn't get Bryce because they can't get big hitters to come out here. It's not gonna happen. They can get pitching tons of pitching. Well, what does it really matter at the end of the day wins, right? Again, none of this is really unfolded yet. Because season hasn't started lesser the as by the way, I hate the spring training regular season back to spring training. That is I just don't understand it. I'm all for going to Japan and opening up your season there. But do it when the regular season starts don't do during spring training. So over here there's a week and a half left. I thought that was really odd. And by the way, Mark Willard nailed it tonight when he was talking about how the as when over there for the farewell each euro tour. That's what it was. I love each euro who doesn't but how many hook nays I just got off to a bad start in twenty nine hundred. I've lost two in a row now going back to spring training workout the the bugs knock off the rust because obviously there were some I thought that was goofy. I thought that was really goofy that they did that they do that just just start when the regular season starts. I understand that so much so much promotion. Great marketing, I have no problem. Said I have no problem with them going over there to Japan. That's great. Doing spring training. Just wrapping up on the season starts, the one thing. I will say is if they have to play like regular season games right after this. They have the excuse of like, oh, we're jetlagged. Oh, this Japan trip took so much out of us. And then that gives them a firm excuse, and I don't know why the MLB would do that in the first place, and I think. Nah. I think this extra week of you know, like going back to spring training doesn't make sense. Throw told baseball is the only time we can do it. Waiting. He's a legend. I thought it was awesome. But I get it. Why the as have a gripe, and why people don't it doesn't make any sense. I don't know if they'll continue to do this in the future. But I don't see why not like even with each. Euro retiring Japanese players come over all the time, and it would only strengthen the posting system and trading like baseball fanfare around the world. I I absolutely what you're saying. Noaa, listen, I want to get back on the giants conversation. If you disagree with me. I want to hear from you as well. Giants fans we gotta stop this conversation of having set out. This is not going to happen. I just don't think it's going to happen. It just doesn't seem that. That's the way for Han is going to be doing business. We've got to get used to the new way we've got to get used to the new way and the new order and the new regime is going to be completely different. And we're gonna see surprises here and there. Yeah. Nobody planned on having five six outfielder. Everybody wants to set corner outfielder. It's something different. Now. Matchup baseball. Like, I mentioned go back to four hundred how he was with the dodgers. Peterson. All played center we reduced. There's a bunch of guys on that team playing outfield. We're gonna have a very similar scene out here in the city. I'm just saying that's the way it's going to go. How is gonna play out? I don't know. I haven't played a game yet. I'm interested. I'm optimistic. I don't think the giants gonna win ninety games or even eighty five. But I I'm optimistic on what for Hong can do. Don't touch. The prospects in the minors. Just let that develop I think he's trying to do two things at once. He's got to get this major league roster. Ready? Get the minor set because there's nothing there's nothing much there. Give it some time. Twenty nineteen is not a lost year. But it's the.
