Four dead after Trump supporters occupy US Capitol in Washington, DC

"Was on Capitol Hill late Wednesday night and saw firsthand the chaos as it was unfolding. What a scene we had here in the nation's capital, especially at the Capitol buildings. Thousands upon thousands of Trump supporters who are welling on the Ellipse made their way to the building, and some of them stormed the capital building getting inside. It was quite a scene outside as well, because there were thousands that were simply out there waiting to see what was gonna happen next. As the day went on, we saw police trying to control the situation, and they had to use stun grenades to drive back the crowd and to secure the Capitol building so that Congress could reconvene and count the electoral college votes. And then the D C curvy took effect. We had several rest made concerning that. Police tried to make some arrests at the Capitol, unsuccessfully doing so but did successfully secured the building. It was quite a day and night here in the nation's capital, one concerning US history. We've never seen anything like this before us far as people getting inside that building running around. Washington DC Under Curfew Amid Capitol Hill Chaos

"Capitol Hill with 20 minutes to go before the curfew sets in, and the protesters are forced to leave the Capitol grounds. Let's go live to W. T. O P s Can Duffy who joins us on Skype? Hey, guys Moments ago. They are taking this curfew very seriously. The authorities they're clearing people back away from the Capitol building, and they have had success doing that. Now The largest crowd we saw is on the western side of the Capitol building. Moments ago, they were still hundreds of people still packed at the entrance there along the steps we saw thousands before, but the crowd dissipated greatly that said they had to get them out of there. So they started to deploy Flash bangs empty any officers joining federal authorities as well chanting, movable back getting everybody back. All the way down the lawn. So now we're about I would say 100 yards away now from the Capitol building. The same thing happened on the northern side as well and the eastern side on the front steps of the Capitol building as police. Also, you stun grenades to drive back the crowds. There were still seen some violence. In fact, we witnessed some trump demonstrators. Spotting a media section and just completely trashing cameras and equipment attacking the media as they're reporting there, But we have seen all day long. Just Lot of chaos and a lot of what happened inside the Capitol Little Day itself, and it's just been an insane day. Never seen anything like this happening before. But as you said, the curfew is now approaching 6 P.m.. In D, C and We'll have to see what happens if this crowd dissipates and goes away. If they police are going to try to get them out of the streets completely or start making arrests can have to wait and see what happened. Can if I can ask you from your standpoint are the people aware that there's a six o'clock curfew tonight? Oh, yes, People are talking about a lot of chatter about 60 em Kirky in such but some people don't want to go home. They want to stay here they say hold your ground. We're not going anywhere. Who knows what that means. But they do not want to leave the streets and the real diehards are still here outside the Capitol building. They have been driven back, but they remain here tonight in D. C. And we know if police are intent on arresting everybody who doesn't abide by this curfew, Hillary, we don't know. I mean, take for example, over this summer with the George Floyd protest. We had those curfews did not know if any arrest or meant going to be made. And then they did. They arrested hundreds and one night. In fact, we were out there on smaller street. So this could happen tonight as well. It depends on what these people want to do. Do they want to stay here or go home? The majority of people have left gun out into other areas of the district. But there's still a sizeable crowd here. I would say in the hundreds now. What remains to be seen what police will do to get them to go home and she will buy by the curfew. All right, w T. O p s Ken Duffy on the scene outside the capital as we're just 17 minutes away from the city wide curfew in the district. Now, let's go live to double D. T. OBY. Capitol Hill correspondent Mitchell Miller, who was inside the Capitol as all of this started, but then had to be evacuated from the capital. Mitch, What's the latest? You have Well right now, Shawn. There's an uneasy tension here at the capital and in the Capitol complex as they try to figure out exactly what was just explained. I can. I mean, what are the demonstrators going to do? So We're really kind of in a holding pattern here. I have been personally evacuating with other reporters and people to the Rayburn building in a secure area. On dime. Sure, staff members are also spread out across the Capitol complex in various areas just to take people through. Who maybe just joining to find out exactly how this all went through. I won't go through the entire day, but Suffice to say it was early in the afternoon. The counting of the electoral college votes had just gotten underway. And suddenly it just happened so quickly that these protesters were up on top of the steps at the U. S Capitol and I can't tell you How rare are I've actually never even seen that happen before on. I've seen many, many protests here before And when they went to the Capitol steps. We knew that something was inherently very, very different about this demonstration. And then it was just a short time later that these people were literally walking all through the capital itself. And and then, shortly thereafter, we found out about a woman getting shot inside. There was a chaotic scene surrounding that in a hallway. Apparently, these people had gotten through a window. They basically just broke the window. It came through and then various things happened, including people going through the Senate chamber and trying to get into the House chamber where they were blockaded from getting in. But people had guns drawn there. People were hearing doors closing that wonder wondering whether or not that was a gunshot, or whether something else everybody wondering what was happening behind the doors that were outside of us in the area that I was in. We were actually basically locked into a small area, basically hoping that nothing would happen where we were, but where we were was right by the House chamber, so Clearly there were a lot of demonstrators making their way through the capital. I think, basically to put a quick rapid on this, though I think we're gonna have to find out what is going to Either case of security moving forward for the U. S Capitol. Because this was clearly untenable. There's no way anybody to be able to have dozens on perhaps even more trespassers go right through the U. S capitol on a day like today, especially when they knew there were going to be protest. So Certainly a lot of troubling questions ahead. That will need to be answered, and he can bet lawmakers will be trying to get answers to those Welsh on Hillary. One other I answered question, Mitch is what happens now, with the tallying of these electoral votes. I mean, we don't even know when the capital's going to reopen for lawmakers. Right? Exactly. I mean, they were Wistfully moved out as you can imagine, and move to secure areas and then those chambers were empty very, very quickly, and it's good that they were because who knows what happened to have these people confronted them personally, which they had been known to do on the ground? I think right now, if I had to guess I just don't think that the lawmakers will be coming back into Chamber this evening. Now, I'm sure some people some would like to make a statement and say You're not going to allow this to happen, but there are so many logistical issues that JJ Green has pointed out. And others have mentioned that you have a security sweep that has to be done. You have no idea whether people left things behind. There's been all kinds of issues related to, of course, the usual suspicious packages they had to evacuate the cannon building earlier today. No, I just don't think it would be a safe thing to do to bring lawmakers back tonight. And then, of course, you still have the question of what? What are the demonstrators going to do if they know that the lawmakers are back in session? Is that only going to encourage them to stay longer? So I think it'll be really interesting to see what the House and Senate leadership decides to do. Moving forward because I don't think they want to be feeling like they can be intimidated by these demonstrators. But at the same time, let's face it. These are older, many of them lawmakers, and we have a pandemic, which we haven't really even mentioned today. Rita Ora sorry for birthday party that broke lockdown rules

"Now for some breaking news. Was she wary. Where was she seen she posted. Why on instagram. Who clean gone too long pause. What's rita ora up to. Who is this woman. We've never done this before we've never opened with what's read or up switching the order of the show were doing top down instead of bottom up. No we're doing bottom up top down bottom up and as we've said a few times in the past month or so rita's back to normal. You know the world isn't back to normal but reed is back to normal. Were sitting about it and yet now i'm like regret now like we jumped the thrill she was getting. We were thrilled. That she was getting The same number of headlines that she used to get however we didn't want her to get these types of headlines. Oh no this is very bad. So celebrated bad parts. Don't throw your own bad party. It's funny because when. When i saw that she was turning thirty i felt a little pang of leg odds tube-like turning thirty like this time like that's that's more rain could feel bad. Yeah for somebody who loves to party. She loves to party but she something happened here. And she's now in a lotta deep water. She's on the cover of the sun so when she turned thirty. This is what we thought on. Saturday night was at saturday night. That her she posted at thirtieth birthday video that her team made her. Were all these important people in her. Life mcwhirter happy birthday. Big jazz. host of it was just so many people i mean. It's dozens of pete. That's what we thought we were going to be talking about today. That's exactly what o our michael caine star studded video incredible. Here's who's in it. We identified a lot of these people even though it was very difficult and then and then this happened sunday night. We'll saturday night. saturday night. Rada had a birthday party that was like a fake up or they. So i think that a lot of people are doing this and this is not just celebrities. This is normal people. They're showing the world one thing on instagram than they're doing something entirely different offense to graham serena showed me beth so rita showed a thirtieth birthday party that was very small and cute in her apartment in her flat. There were balloons on the ceiling. She watched the video. You could tell there. Were a couple other voices in there. She showed this big spread of desserts and it was like look at this cake. I'm gonna eat it all by myself. Ha ha ha. So it's very like this is how i'm celebrating in these times. But she also had a thirtieth birthday party at a fancy restaurant in notting hill. Yeah and it looks like she just hossack rented the space definitely because there were people bringing in liquor and ice and so it looks like she just rented the space and had over thirty people. And it's apparently against the law to even have like more than one person outside of your household and there are more. Their lockdown laws are more We have some to here. But there's more and they're more will get you your name. They're more like actually taking this seriously but also like they should take rita ora doing this more seriously than anyone because again. She's a public figure. And this shit's going to get photographed. What i'm confused about. And i wonder what you think is like. Did somebody call the paparazzi. Like who how. What's the deal with that like. There were lots of photos or photos of the cops getting there and being like What's going on in here. You know like literally. They had photos of the whole shebang. People going in people going out. Rita going in rena going out and i just wonder like for rita we've already said like. Oh you know. She calls the paparazzi. But like you wouldn't call the paparazzi on your own like a legal birthday when you're doing something like flagrantly illegal but this dead. Maybe not someone whether it was someone at the restaurant a neighbor because it doesn't look like these people they're like they're actually sneaking and they're going back doors like it doesn't look like they wanted anywhere right there and also looks it also looks late as hell like it doesn't look. It doesn't look just like nighttime. It looks like it's late really fucking stupid like i. Not that. I want people to like you know flout these rules or whatever but it just looks. They did it. The stupidest way that i could imagine doing this type of kind of activity Are photos all over the son of like police officer showing up in peering into windows. They're blurry paparazzi time photos of her sister and that guy vast morgan showing up with arm. Loads of prospero tequila articulate brand. Poppy delevingne kara levin. A lot of people. I can't recognize among the thirty so if we have photos of those we have photos of the people people knew you know but there are twenty eight other people who weren't photograph because i guess they weren't important enough to be photographed. Her hat to have photographs. Patty love to identify those people. So according to the loss this is what it says in the guardian england's national lockdown which ends on tuesday which is like ria you could of waited it's against the law to meet more than person you do not live with acceptance specific circumstances. Police have the power to break up gatherings issue fines of up to ten thousand pounds for breaches of regulations so she just voluntarily pay according to the sun this morning. She just voluntarily paid ten thousand pounds. She was like you know what. Here's the money police. Stay away from me. I'm so sorry alone. She's on the cover of the sun with a mask on in a big firm furnish coat that says read a party. Cheater was a really good. That was a really good line in the sun that said bang out of ora. Rita ora slammed she flouts lockdown laws. With thirty thousand. I was like bang out of something. Must be a british slang and it is. It's bang out of order which means someone is like acting a mess acting fool. You're being unreasonable. Your bang out of order posted a apology already on instagram winch. Is you know she said hello. I attended a small gathering with you through the gathering rita. You through the party. It was it was a spur of the moment decision. No it wasn't. It was a party that you through a birthday party made with the misguided view that we were coming out of lockdown. This would be okay. You were but few days later. Sorry i've commentary for all this. I'm deeply sorry raking the rules and intern understand that. This put people at risk. This was a serious inexcusable. Error of judgement given the restrictions. I realize how responsibilities actions and i take full responsibility. I feel particularly embarrassed knowing firsthand. How hard people have worked to combat this terrible illness and being fully aware of the sacrifices that people and businesses have made to help. Keep us all safe. Even though. this won't make it right. I want to sincerely apologize.

"Twenty four points and ten rebounds game. He was really good last year. He should have probably won national funding. Could you imagine all the iowa fans speak the whole pivot. Pretend like it never happened. Just be like one of the great atrocities college basketball history. Luca guards up eating. Ob top topping. Everyone's like i remember this all year. That no of course. Not i look at guards is inevitable. I think he's got a style of play to the You know knock on wood. I don't think she can be bad. Like i don't think he can regress in how he plays. He's just an old school. Big guy can step out and shoot. His post moves are he. He has a million post moves. And he's he's he's so good with angles. He's so he's he's got a high basketball iq he. He is like a big ten basketball fans. Wet dreams luca garza for the low post. I mean that guy has an all and and there's a reason that he's like you all the native pig for. I don't know if that's true. But he's the consensus whatever. Whatever the word is. I don't even know what the consensus is. The word consensus pick not unanimous consensus. And and like you said. I mean i wrote down underneath player of the year. Make sure we mentioned luca guards. I i think that we're at the point where we need to let people know that we did not have been dead against luther. Garza that we disliked the way played basketball. We just happen to a fallen in love with a man by the name of obi topping who is now on york knicks. We're past it and say in the interest of fairness i did just get done. Say there's no way he can regress. There's nothing that can stop them. What i meant was there are no players in the big ten completely stop and there's no coaching scheme. That's gonna stop them. There's no That sort of thing table garza. And you're like this is the this is. This is the fix right. I am three percent worried about the vegan thing. I'm three percent worried about that now. I'll say i've been trying to find more sources on this. We talked about this and one of the preview shows. We did that luka garza. We were doing the vegan update. I think it was the first one the first update number ninety seven vegan update. I literally went to google search college basketball players vegan just to see anybody who went vegan this summer. And i'll be god damned. It was the best player in the country out to. There's an article from sl in july for sports illustrated said Luca garza's plant based diet and we talked about it. The concerns about this and then. I mentioned justin fields and i said just fields can go vegan. And he's having a year he's having maybe he's okay fast forward to this saturday. Justin fields was out of sorts. He looks he looked cold. He looked tired. Which are two things that happened when you go vegan. Suddenly i'm a little worried about the vegan issue with regards. But i will say i have since i before. We did the show today. I tried to find other sources. I tried to see if there's like other people writing about luke being vegan. We had him on our show that was on f s one on monday night. I was scared to ask him. Honestly because i didn't want to address. It i i liked the mystery unknown whether lagaras vegan i honestly was scared. You were gonna ask given frame after he wasn't gonna know what you did. Run that by me did so. I think there's a chance because i went back. I read the article from sports illustrated. It said it had only been a few weeks so i. I am leaning towards luca. Guards tried it out this summer. He did the mike dummy. Tried it out. Here is i. This is. I feel week cold and tired. I don't wanna be called tired so you went back to me. And i think he's going to be fine but like i. There's a little worried that i'm wrong. There's a little worried that we're going to look up. Luca guards is going to one hundred and ninety seven pounds and you getting pushed around and then just like every time. He's on the bench. He's got a blanket over him and he's like shivering. And what are we. deploy look. Is there any chance. I remember tyler hands senior year in two thousand nine. There was like all every single time he went up against like blake griffin or even the year before he went against co audrey. There was like some of these other big men that when they got the chance. It was so appetizing that they just went after him right like they were playing with some new found. You know belief in some new found energy because they're like this guy is not that good like i say kober is licking his lips deck. That's what scares me about. Luka garza i think he has more of a target on his back says some of these other big league. They're like i need to show something tonight. So i'm gonna go after luca That's my only gripe with luca. It'd be fine. He's got to be the pick for me. He's got a player there right. Let's do it all americans. I like this. I like we talk a lot of smack about other people's preseason all american teams. We should step up to the plate own. Do you want to go first at your five. Yeah because mine is going to people so much because it's my own opinion. It's my gut i. This is the preseason duffy awards. None of this is going to be exactly what happens. All speculative but my team is pretty. Chalk i would say I owed sue illinois point guard obviously first team all american. I think he's going to be the national player of the year. I won't say that right now. I think that is going to be my pick for national player of the year. Starting just say christmas. Hey hey hey. That's not fair you pick. Her smith is our player of the year are different national national player. The exact this is our awards. Yeah they're the lives of deviation here folks when we're getting into this anyway. I would assume new national player. The american falls in love with them. They're like illinois basketball is back at the to guard. It is not actor. Garba kate cunningham. He's a point guard for oklahoma state. But i'm gonna slide him as the number two cars. Tom green basketball exactly. There are no physicians here. So those are my two guards is okay cunningham. Guards there at the third spot. Already told you. He's my player of the year. Chris smith at small forts leiderman their ucla. Pac twelve basketball first team all american. Everyone's fired up about this. At power forward shocking. The world the new. Josh mcroberts the new bob john volkersen give up. Give up at power forward and then at the five We have to give him his due at them credit. You just said it the lagaras. I was worried. You weren't gonna put luke luke. Lucas on the list said luca must be included. I wrote this down early. Christmas.

"Case of Taylor. when you mentioned community policing and community `gate-keeping Mike at There's just so much frustration from mobile, which is where she was murdered. And the mayor just like he just seems so out of touch and in my head. I'm just like if you were anyone else. If you live next to her, and you had the ability to arrest her murderers, I assume that you would assume something would be different, but also I'm a black girl in while intimidated to be so I kinda, don't know so I wanted to ask you. The mayor seems to say that his hands are tied because of some state law that I don't understand. Do you think that that is true or is it actually because she's a black woman in because that's just kinda. What happens with black women? So I'll say as a preface lot. I don't know this particular lot and an out like some other people do but I have some insight into this dynamic so on some level we've spent decades worshiping law enforcement in this culture, and so we've passed laughter law that makes it very difficult to hold police officers accountable. We've signed police union contract after Police Union contract that makes it very difficult to hold them accountable. I mean these people are in some ways kind of stuck. But that being said very often. It's convenient for people like the mayor and people like the state legislators and people like the police chief to be able to say my hands are tied. I can't do anything. Yeah yeah, it's convenient because they don't want law enforcement after them they don't want to be the bad guy to the local police right and so on a technical level it's probably true, and to some extent on a practical level I think everything we've done as a choice and not none of this is just a nurse show. All of this is just as someone has made choice time and time again, and if it were a rich white woman who had been asleep in her bed. And the cops came into our house, the wrong house and they came in the middle of the night and they shot her while she was asleep. We would see something else happening right now and made. May later it out nature? Figure it out. Yep, yet. They got that That white woman motivation behind me about. Right and there's no justice for Briana Taylor possible. My friend Erica says this you can get accountability. Maybe newgen. Get revenge maybe. You could see consequences, but she's dead. That opportunity for justice is gone. She's not coming back because she was asleep and police killed her while she was sleeping. That is a sobering point like there's no retribution. You can make four the victim in this case. They never brings him back and that's a big thing that I think people don't think about when they think about the word justice, we think about what happens to victims and then may think there's something we can do to the perpetrator that will make it right or make it equal, and there's not thinking about June teeth. We think here is a moment where everything got made me. But yeah generations and generations of people who were slaves Warren and died as slaves. and they never saw emancipation and they never saw. June teeth, and they never saw freedom, and all of them wanted it. All of them, hope for it, and deserved it and deserved it. Generations of of masters of plantation. died in their beds at home. Fine. Yeah, right? You think about this idea that there's ever any kind of payback possible. And I'm not sure there is really. Accountability is crucial but justice. I feel like everything was happening. Now is like bringing up so much stuff like this has been like Berry, because there are other trauma so like think about in focus on and this weekend I was like I'm going to I'm watching movies and so many movies that I used to love. Now feel different. They just hit a little differently and almost every movie. It didn't matter what genre. It was about policing. It was about fighting crime. It was about the bad guys. The is almost every single movie and a thing that that made me realize one. Wow, this is like a really pervasive narrative in our culture into. How did they get so fucking powerful Where does one? Start chipping away at these these roles in uniforms, police unions are very very very powerful, historically right Mary Powerful. But police shootings are powerful because police are powerful, right police are powerful because the unions are powerful, and by that I mean the culture of policing in this country is so pervasive that we have allowed this one sort of union sector to maintain no accountability. We have valued policing over everything. Heart of what we have to do is to make it politically possible to get up police, and that digs. What's happening right now takes a reckoning among everybody of saying. This is not what we want. If we were going to design the world from scratch, this is not what we would have designed. Sheesh, sell the feeling that I'm feeling right now is just like I'm just little. Oh me I'm just LILLO Tracy my flatbush apartment, trying to make it through the day. Maybe take a shower. You know right out today. There are lots of reasons that I can't be outside protesting with every way I do, have depression and anxiety. I don't like crowds have actual. Actual agoraphobia which makes going outside hard, there's a pandemic I say this to say. How do you find a way to be helpful when you can't do like the big things that you see on TV? Well, number one. I'm also not out protesting first of all I try to be careful because I'm a journalist I'd you know but also six months pregnant? I got a toddler at home and I feel the same way that you do like. It's sort of like sharpy out there fighting. I think there are a couple of things one is that what people really need is support. They really need support on the ground, and not mostly goes I. Think for local organizers and especially black local organizers policing like mainly a local thing and a lot of attention is paid to the federal government. Like what Donald Trump. Say about protesters today. Obviously, he's a nutjob so like there's this there is. is a sense of like what he says matters because he has an impact on the framing, but when it comes to what can happen where we are, you know like figuring out who's organizing on the ground in Louisville and giving them a couple of bucks. Right goes a long way I also think supporting local journalists in particular is huge. One of the things I don't think people really realize like. Every story you hear every Brown Taylor story here. There twenty thirty forty stories in the year non hearing that getting any attention that may.

"With you about why the Becky Hammon award was created. And it wasn't always named the Beckingham and award but first of all. Let's just go back to the point where it's just the kind of the mid major player of the year award. Yeah so somebody kind of throughout the idea of writing a little piece about some major players to watch and I kinda ran with that and I think the idea that I was maybe highlight like five to ten players and I just found twenty players that I thought were just really really good Back back in November and I made we called the early season. Watch list because of the season just gotten under way. We filtered it down to like twenty five conferences. We D- Mid major so basically anyone that wasn't power five big Easter American athletic and From there there are thirty two hundred candidates and filtered it down to twenty five and like you said we didn't have a name it first and bounce some ideas around. I thought about Jackie stiles but she is the Missouri Valley. She's already gotten more named after her and thought about some of the older like the Louisiana tech players from the Seventies. But I mean at the time that wasn't that was hardly amid major and eventually we did end up settling on Beckenham very cool. How'd it Becky feel about that Yeah she really liked the idea. She kind of reflected our thoughts that it's it's important to recognize the players. I think her exactly what was players. Don't get the GLITZ and the glamour of being on national television. Like a high major school would get that opportunity Yeah it's it's absolutely wonderful so it was not an easy process like you said you started with kind of a watch list pair it down two semi finalists and finalists. And if you would just you know kind of talk about these final five or ten over these Less last month or so. And how tough was it to distinguish for her hoop stats contributors between one and another of these great mid major players? Yeah I mean there were so many great players. We had a list of ten in early February. And I had to cut that down to five psalm without boats all of our contributors in early March and there were players who were nearly identical and it came down to like really like minute differences in. It's it's really impossible to overemphasize like how close a lot of these players are and there were five people that we didn't that didn't make the cut from the final from the semifinalist the finalist but they're still spectacular. Players are finalised. We'd five players. Who is the winner of the award? We also bell alary of Princeton Stella Johnson Variety of the nation's leading score. Ut Martins Chelsea Perry and she went on just a crazy scoring run in the second half of the season. She wasn't even honor early-season watchlist. That's a hot. She came out in like late. December. Really Drake's serum was the fifth player to make the violence lists outstanding list. And just close it out. Tell us about Kiro Duffy. And why she stood out yeah. She is a really balanced game and An efficient and balanced game. Which is something. We really looked for in the candidates. She's among the top of the nation in points for scoring attempts at one point two one. I believe that's right around like the top eighty in the country and she doesn't at a high clip which is also rare and then on top of that she adds like five assists in only tune after an overs per game and that is just an exceptional assist turnover ratio for someone. Who has that high of volume you? Don't typically and I would guess that the ability to have her team poised certainly to to make a run in the NC Double A. Tournament. And the just the great year that they had being a basically a top twenty program by the time you know. The season came to a close. I would guess that had something to do with it as well. Just just how good. Her team was around her as well and how much better. She made her team. I mean she was basically on the way to leading the team to their first tournament win in the history of the program being in division. One which I think I believe it was two thousand eight or two thousand seven been made the move to Division. One and they've made two appearances would have not a win but they were released setup. Well this year I think the coaches poll. That actually finished eleventh. Which is yeah. I think it was eleven coaches in seventeenth in age. It's really a testament to how convincing. They were season as a great team to overcome that mid Major. Maybe a bias absolutely well. Congratulations to cure a duffy. Were about to hear from her. But I want to say thank you to you. Jacob for the dedication you put in this year to assembling this list and figuring out who should be on it and ultimately awarding.

You don't get Bruce Fabens Assistant Y- who that Soubra was brought co his teeth engineering. Bon Jovi Jovi aerosmith. Whatever with Bruce Fab and open Vancouver and eventually started branching out as you do on your own? Yeah I just think he was important. Also that Bob's musician and a guitar player and I think it's important for the colts have producers musical guy. There are many kinds of produces this. You Know Rick Rubin's is incredible. What he does He? I mean he's not a musical person right. You know what I mean. He's oster yeah he just sits at the back and excited cool. I saw the DOT. Org that's why. I know if you see Majok. Yeah Yeah you know. WHA- lifted documents exactly within the documents. Billy Duffy's here. Sonic Temple thirty years old. The dates there's here in the US there's only about seven or eight that you've announced right last year. We did. Yeah we just. We don't really tour in kind of the sense that we did years ago. Where you start at one point on the map and keep going until you've done you you know six months if we eat that grind? I don't think we have that. We just get groups dates together now will do we can warriors though from flying him show Scott can relate into how you know. He doesn't those Guy Anthrax still goes out for. Oh don't we see we will and I don't think we've got the design. We like to play but we like to do in Lola bursts these days you know the idea means really know that keen on touring. I'm a bit more of a road dog. He does it but I think if he was is being on a steep doesn't love the notion of you know Satan on the bus right with a bunch of money. has their process finds a way to make it work. Yeah Yeah what the coal. It's just we're trying to do little often. Rather than extensive so this is a cluster a days between Washington and Boston and I actually believe that. Ah Sometimes I I believe that some bands over tour and play way too much and it actually hurts their drawn there guarantees. I've seen the opposite. Sometimes less is more for bigger crowds better money like you just said before. You'd never expected you'd sell out the Greek and you did you. So absence makes the heart grow little fonder. Sometimes it's a bunch of faxes and all the things you just said a very true. Yes the way all the exam. Today is as much as I love doing it. The end of the day is a business. It show business and you know to me eighth and there's so much out there these days because everybody has to tour because record. Sales aren't what they were. Sometimes the fans get fatigued them again. You know well is that and last time a check. They're having added it anymore. Days to the week seven over and like benzene reform. There's new bonds these bonds zoo broken reform broken up and reformed again. Everybody'd the reason I'm still only seven days a week. Five farewell tours me look at the misfits. They found that the the best formula ever don't play for thirty years right come out outstanding like ten arena shows and then go away again you know if you can get yourself in fighting shape. You know to go out and do that. God bless you know. Let's get a couple of quick calls in before we have to wrap up Greg. Houston waiting since we started the show. Greg go ahead. You're on with bill. You just need those headphones billy guy. Hey Greg thanks Daddy Billy it's a true pleasure to talk to you sir. I've been fans of CELEB- record graduates on the thirtieth anniversary. Sonic Keppel. Well thanks. Thanks thanks Greg Houston as assault. We have a soft spot for Houston sexist because when we first came to America before the low album we played a clip call numbers in Houston which is a famous Ri- I you know what I'm talking about. Absolutely terrific addition yet to mention. Yeah Yeah yes so so to me an an English guy. I'd never you know I didn't even know Texas You know it was all whatever I was like. Wow I didn't know. They were so progressive so it was fun then so so your phone is real crackly so ask your question real quick and I'm going to hang up on you because your phones make annoys absolutely. I just wanted to see if billy can elaborate a little bit on the songwriting process but he in go through with the ride. A new record and Thanksgiving your time. I really appreciate it. Okay Oh yes some right. And it's a trip it's evolved. I mean now it. In the old days in the eighties we knock open you song in the soundcheck and play the GIG and you know. Hey what do you think of a new song for some reason that sold died off. Now so we you know the it's a collaborative thing with the Col- these always been there aren't really in songs and billy songs wrongs we just right together. Obviously certain songs up more my DNA the neans you know but we're collaborative thing which makes it vital that we have a strong producer to kind of be able to get both of his size fide. You know it's it's So it's a bit of a balancing act and trying to find the commonality commonality between where we're at you know ines very progressive in his thinking. He's musical say see always wants to go forward some a bit more conservative by nature. I'm a guitar player. So you know I just WanNa play lots allowed guitar. So we try and facts are all those things together and try and make records that sound. Unlike their of their time you know I don't want to keep making. It would be an authentic for us to try and make electric again. 'cause I'm not that twenty four year old John Guy I would just be if he would be a fantasy to even thinking. So that's the only thing with the process of writing songs in quantity not quantity exactly the opposite the headphones. That killed me. Go Weird like I feel like in Minnesota and the other thing that I think's really interesting billy is is not only the the the songwriting partnership you have with the end but just the relationship in general. Not many things last as long as you've had a partnership with this the guy. It's pretty remarkable now with both with both where we're born a year in two days apart with both the same birth sign We're very similar learning loayza very different in overs and Yeah I mean I think I'm just count my blessings that I ever met the guy you know what I mean because i. It's it's an amazing gene gift to be able to meet somebody who collaboratively together that SUV. You make something that you couldn't make individually you know in all the great bound down most of the great bonds have that dynamic between two guys I think two plus two equals five. Let me squeeze a couple of quick calls because we're almost out of time and people been waiting this. This is not a New Orleans. Go had not how you doing. I'm billy I'm saying all right. Not I'm I'm an arsenal fan but anyways I was the court in the eighties and got that southern death cult following you all the way to Sonic Temple last year. Finally I got to see guys. It's a ten friends the Ip Casino in Mississippi and saw wonderful concert. I just want to thank you guys for still playing thank you. Oh well thanks for your service this Thanks thanks for being there. For his back. I like playing Biloxi. I never thought as a young man in England that every plane in Biloxi Exceed Mississippi. I'll tell you a little story quickly. Fifteen seconds the name. Southern death cult is an APP anthropological term for tribes of American Indians from that part of America specifically Baloch say he worshiped burial mounds and stuff. Oh like of ancient people that all over with the world and in Europe and all this but they were there and that's how the that somehow that name which obviously is the precursor of the coal Colt was the southern death. It was a different band for. So there's a biloxi connection interesting. Let's go to Ben who's in Canada. Ben Go ahead. You're on with Billy Duffy..

Sonic Temple we talk about that. And a whole lot more including some upcoming live cult dates dates this interview courtesy of my Sirius. XM show trunk. Nation heard everyday live on volume on Sirius. Xm Channel One. Oh six and here is billy early. Duffy enjoy well. It's really good to see all right. We're live on the air so go ahead and pull up Mike. Throw you right into it. Okay that I life and exactly live and yeah yeah yeah I see you rode your bike on. That's the way to do it in La. I would think these these days what it was. I can tell you getting around. Yeah let me get on some people can hear you anyway So yeah how long have you lived in La Right now on and off fly to then our. I forgot now I think I came back in like nineteen nine nine nine nine up in enough I spent. I'm actually spending more time in the UK. Now are you really split in. Yeah maybe over it or something. I don't know where where exactly in the UK. I'm from Manchester and sister. Soft place up in Just outside Manchester are you a US citizen or jeweler. I have dual citizenship which very nice work from a very well? I've been pretty happy without. Yeah Mitchell citizen Ad- ca- I did not forget when I did that like I think two two thousand eleven and a same day Jillian Bob Carey fantastic Canadian lady. who was always over the news here? Yeah Yeah how was she was she in the the the three thousand people games on allegiance to the flag. Yeah I had to keep my fingers a little bit crust on that one being British. You know what I mean I. I am deep down a red coat so I am the guys that they won't you but it's it's here here in La. I mean it's no joke like the other day. I had to go three miles. It took forty five minutes. It's it's it I I love it here. I come here every month and I do love it here. I got a lot of friends here here like working from here but and you. He can't beat the weather but man that isn't it's not like it's not an exaggerated thing. It's our bet. Traffic is high thing nowadays. You have to re the way. I'm working Canadian. My mind is just not comparing. It's what Los Angeles use the bay. I accept to now for the new Los Angeles. which is you know? More comparable to solve more major urban areas. People used to come because she could get stuff done but it was chilled out. And you could kind of relax and sort of the idea of California that I mean l.. That's done that doesn't exist anymore here. Really what's Manchester. Like these days mentioned. Well I spend the whole summer back over in UK It's very progressive He sees kind of likes to see itself as a as a kind of a an R.. E. Town you know in the case of let footfall with you know with Pre Progressive Rock scene. There I wouldn't say is a rock scene. There's been there was a pretty good music. Saint from punk onwards obviously not. I wouldn't say there's really a great heavy. It's our growing. Say IT Roxanne. But more of an indie you know he's been very Indian Sort of post punk was the thing and then obviously my chest the movement which. I'm sure you deeply appreciates appreciates it. which is what people took a lot of Ecstasy and all night in the law. That wouldn't be my well. I was flipping my long blonde hair on on stages across America having a whale of time. Thank you so much. I was There were There was Yeah there was a whole single Manchester about dance music. That would say yeah. I know it's not really you know we're we're kind of getting a little off trying to give a sense of the scene out. Is there now because I mean what was the last I know. Lot of Brockman is committed Birmingham. But what was the last big rock band was oasis. The last big rock band that came out of Manchester would say away six with a with you know I mean. That's what's I mean to me. They were not. I wouldn't ever have classified them as a rock band would think they were more of a kind of a pop guitar ruin. Say Iran's you know I mean in the same way as she wouldn't say the bills. Those were a rock band. Would you mean. It's the song driven. I mean the first album was pretty. Rockin you know but that you know they were song going. Say but that that Kinda Music Nick You know the heavy rock scene in the. UK's definitely more soup cultural it seen as kind of a by he sees. It's not really mainstream or low. You know obviously every so often I made in pop up another hit single in the child got so many fans there they do not even though they'll do arenas here over there they actually will have hits which well we did we at like nine seven nine nine top singles singles and I only use forecourts joke. I think maybe seven but always less colds involved in getting nine top fifty singles for the Colt back in the day. Yeah Yeah Yeah well. Speaking of back in the day hard to believe Sonic temple is thirty years years old. And I I remember last I saw you as maybe a year or two ago. You played rock La Homa and I was hosting it. We were at the hard rock and yet added that meet and greet and I remember talking to some then and you were at that time you'd said to me I said what you guys coming up and you said well I'm talking to IAN now. No because Sonic temples coming up on thirty. We're going to see if we want to do some sort of anniversary stuff word. I'm not sure. Yeah Yeah obviously it's happening and you're doing it and and and To me blows my mind that that record is thirty years old yeah. It's pretty scary. He's not because we looked so fabulous. I think so is that why thank you. I'm GonNa go with that Philly. I'm going to go with that one. I'm pushing that agenda. Seeding out in the world they do look pretty fabulous considering for a bus pass I refuse I the AARP envelope in the garbage. I won't do it I don't care. What the benefits are man? Oh Man oh man I am. You know yeah I I suppose. I think that it's wise when everybody reaches a certain age and I would guess that somewhere over fifty to not stop playing the numbers. NBA's game It's a little because it's not a winning mathematical formula. If you project say ahead as far as we're talking back then it's not a pretty sight You know the best. You'RE GONNA be the guy on the little belt buckle pulling yourself open down. 'cause you're living on like Kale and Swiss Chard and you're ninety seven and you don't look a day over eighty five outpointing. Just WanNa make it to the toilet on time. That's I am of the belief. I am of the belief strongly really that what we do you as a performer. Me On my end of it and being out there all over the place does keep you young. I do believe even if not physically mentally I do I see so many people. I'm fifty five. I see so many other people that are around my age. Who are look like? They're ready for the rocking chair. In view like it I mentally and physically feel like I'm twenty five still. I'm like ready to go. Well we're kind of lucky with blessed. We've had a good both of our goods. You you know yeah. I think my mom said something to me very profound once. She said Billy as long as you've got your health nothing else really matters and I was like very wise words I think from the old mom mill betsy my mom I think she was pre bang on with like you know. I think we're just very fortunate. We're blessed than I think that definition of when you're young start you know. I was panicking when I was a kid. 'cause I didn't know what I wanted to do. I was reasonably intelligent. The seventies were terrible in England. That was you know punk was happening. It was a very depressed environment And I didn't the one I wanted to do my life. You know. All my family were in the building trade so that was the most obvious root for me and I just didn't fancy working outdoors five days a week in the English weather You know thank God for you know the sex pistols is all I can say his and the boast Cox and the whole thing in 'cause that for me you know took obviously. I was in music as a kid and I all the brock bands and everything you probably grow blight can cause we're not too far pine. Hey Butts it was a fantasy. I was aspiring to be a guitar. Rhody for the local second-best rock band in South Manchester the time you know that was an expiration nation and then punk happened and suddenly the whole game changed. You know I mean a lot of things. Remain the same. You know the the major established bands. They were nervous for ten minutes and then they continue to sell out in on flying private jets and what they did for a year or two that it was pretty exciting heady times is in the UK and he did open law possibilities where suddenly it was like. Oh Man Yeah why being abandoned you know you take that it is in fact a monumental leap it might stage my only be three or four foot high but standing watching somebody and climbing open doing something and an entertaining people. It's like Everest. Yeah to some people. Yeah I mean it's quite a significant thing. Anybody can do that. You said you weren't sure what you wanted to do. What you know? Career wise music. So was the thing that I found myself in a ban by accident almost literally was trying to be see what was up and called well ended up being called. The nose bleeds. I yeah yeah well yeah so funk band and and ironically and this dude telling telly story law and I'm getting a bit bored. Ironically I happened to have a friend. You're always going gigs with because we liked all the same kinda music like the New York dolls dolls and Pye Smith in the stooges his name was Steven Morrissey and got him to sing and wrote. The first songs with him he ever wrote wrote there was the offenders remotely interested. They did make a movie. That's on net flix. Called England is mind really documentaries. Just don't know it's kind of what is it when it's very close to the truth but it's not a documentary. Pick yet by Queen move yes right pick okay come out about two years ago. It was a low budget thing in England. Actually Brian From Cleopatra Records are out here in La who find help find on say and one of the guys from the cure. Put some money into it. Whose name escapes me? It was an indie movie. And it just happens to tell the story of Morrissey when he was Stephen Moore. Say Stay up until the mini inmates Johnny Marr. He's not about the smiths. It's not about that. It's just a fun little thing about the Manchester music scene right when punk. What was happening and I happened to be any I happen to have introduced more? Seek to Johnny Mouth. Is Somebody in the movie plane. Yeah yeah he's like he's like my little also nine ever had his name's Adam and and he's like a great guy in east and people say looks exactly like I did on eighteen. Well bless him and I'll be seeing him in England. He's coming to one of the gigs. He's become kind of friends. You know I've got a great door so but I never had a son so I'm Larry Go. You know my son. I'm GONNA say many. He's acting career. Doesn't it wasn't peaky blinders for five minutes. Okay so he's got the right echo if you had not made it in music music and As a guitar player songwriter performer. You said your family was in building personally have a another a fallback acting like was it sports or acting or any other thing that you saw yourself potentially doing if it wasn't this no I wasn't good enough for football soccer right over here my my American sites I was just borderline good enough to get in the team. You know what I mean. I was like sometimes on the banks sometimes. Sometimes I was a star which I'm constantly reminded of because I think I got better as I got older because every I'll stop playing and no it didn't have a backup. Plan was was filled with ten different kinds of fear so I ended up working in a hospital as a poor sir which is a great Gig for you know young.

Donna Jim at Ding Bats. Where we always do do it? In Clifton. New Jersey always a fun time bands play we hang out Should be an absolute blast as always is so. That's what's on the docket for the rest of of the year and there's one other thing I'm doing although it's not a public thing and it's not a You know it's not something that you know an appearance of any kind in however speaking of going outside of the country. I'm going to be going to Zurich Switzerland in early December long story as to why that's happening but it's going to end up being a family vacation for me and originally there was supposed to be an event there air that I was going to attend for Billy Gibbons which has since been cancelled but since I had the plane tickets already figured what the heck so me and the family are going to go over and visit that area of the world and spend a few days there and I'm looking forward to it if I have any listeners who are based in that area and you got any tips for me or any suggestions love to hear him. Let's get things started with just days to go before Thursday night's democratic debate which is happening here on. ABC Senate a Camera Harris under fire for using an apologizing for something. She said it's was reaction to question in New Hampshire at a town hall. Take Love you going to do in the next one year. Diminish the mentally retarded action of this guy well. I heard him talk about the other stuff and then that came later and it was not something that I really really heard or processed or or in any way condone. That's for sure now could you you could have handled it better or was this a rookie mistake and I guess I should explain to people saying the word mentally retarded as a derogatory in a derogatory fashion is no no and really they sang it at all. No no and I guess people don't realize that so. Maybe if you WANNA if you don't like somebody's policies or something you don't like what they do. Maybe calm boneheaded or ridiculous or you know there's there's there's a number of things to he said outside of that so and we've been told not to say it more than once yeah so. Was this a rookie mistake well. She claims that she didn't hear it. The guy had an accent. It's possible that she misunderstood what he said. It's possible unhinged. We call Donald Incompetence stuff yeah but you MORONIC I. I personally feel like we are in a race to bring back the soul of this country. Yes I want character back again so whether it's calling trump trump names or whether it's rookie mistake or not I think this was a moment for her to show her character and it reminded me of a time when your dad was running Megan and a moment I think none of us were when someone was saying some things about a bomb and he said no don't say that Obama's a decent man and I think these are moments when we look at our political you leaders. Do we want them to be examples for us for our children coming up well what then example is is true. Obama is a decent man. This guy is not but but I'm you look. I think that certainly she said either. I didn't hear it or I didn't process it and that's sometimes happens that you wish you would have responded in a better way but I think she's getting so much flak for not handling doing it in in handling it a better way but all of these candidates have had these gaffes especially Joe Biden and he gets a pass all all the time for these gaffes. Donald trump gets a pass all all time made fun of disabled and cheese actually the only candidate that has a real plan for people with disabilities and she and she had that she rolled that out last month and so I think it's sort of you know to to not give this candidate pat not a pass but to to she's getting so much flag for words that she didn't even say. I think says a lot about where we are in this in this race right now because the men get passes every single time every single time. Joe Biden died and we've given him a pass really at this table very very often I buy. I go to PAT aghast table because at least last couple of US actually know him. I know I know Pamela and I think Jerry version that then yeah given her background too but I was saying in the meeting this morning there's two kinds of candidates traditionally once the do well. On prompters and in speeches that are written for them all the Obama and people that do well off the cuff and town halls and really feed off energy. She's clearly not someone who's doing well feeding off the energy and in the spur of the moments when you have to react so oh. I think it's something she has to get stronger because her crowds are only going to get bigger and then it's going to be a hot topic on the show. I think we can debate gender gets who's getting what pass for whatever whatever reason but in two thousand ten. President Obama signed Rosa's Law which required the federal government trip place the word mental retardation with intellectual disability. My mother is a special needs teacher. I've always always entire life. I'm almost thirty five years old. I've known that that's not a word you can say. I just assumed if you're running for president you would know that too. I think she hurt my problem with her as she could have said. I totally messed up. I was exhausted. It's the campaign trail. I'm so sorry I have this bill. That's going to help people with disabilities and move on. It's the doubling down of. I didn't hear she clearly heard heard. Nobody's stupid. There's video of it and you gotta get better on the campaign trail in front of a live audience in front of a live audience every day. People screw up when we say dumb things it's okay just move on and apologize unlike our president who is unable to do that and I think you have to follow apetite fencing but he did it up and she threw it up and she theory right. Don't apologize we weren't there. This love the primary system because people go in listening to candidates. I think I'm either going to like them better or worse true based off of how they interact with me and Meghan not you've been through I have been through these channels too and that's why they matter because they get to make that judgment call. They get to talk to them one on one we weren't there. Let them make the judge. I'm happy it's still exists like the town halls and live people deserve to see their candidates one on one asking them questions face to efface. I'm glad it's not something that's gone by the wayside frankly and actually I've I've messed up because there are lots of stuff. I didn't know were off the table as well mistake but the stakes do happen and we're in a society we have to go. I know we're in a society where what you say does matter and we are so mike we we. We micro manage everything to the detriment. Sometimes I think of real people because none of us walk on water and won't won't do you remember when Obama was president how he spoke so cautiously all the time. Those days are long gone my friend he was. He's very aware monitored. There have been a great a lot of great orators. You know and they've all screwed up as well. We'll be right back later. The attack, they play a super conservative offensive style that God Lewis dunk. Duffy and dunked partners Duffy on name alone. They're not going to get relegated. Mike? Hi, Dr to the. Oh, I think that they're going to. I think that they will. I think they'll finish higher. I think they'll, wow. So the odds, so sporting index has hasn't being relegated. Yup. Well, I think that they would Li survive. I'm not. I would not say that they're not going to be relegated fight, but I think that they'll end up winning that fight. Yeah. All right. Ca, seventh, they also have you Europa league fixtures or qualifiers to worry about in the in the start of the season..

"Of this has to be and i don't think buck showalter even shifts all that much but anyway i don't know i i i see them shift and look they save a lot of runs to just like you notice when they get these runs it you know that's why i try to listen to radio and not watch it saturday dow's kyko danny duffy are we back in on dante duffy bothers i drop them in my weekly attending weekly i just couldn't take it anymore because of all the walks look if you're gonna walk this you're gonna walk for here's per nine you're gonna get overruns all right now sometimes you can beat the year a little bit like we've seen with chat would duffy has not been able to beat the year a this is an outing against houston is nowhere use them but i mean what's the long term viability for duffy highest end of the match ups tear not one you have in every start the thing that bothered me about him was the yeah the poor control this year that's improving a little bit lately but i i for some reason i'll tell you this the forecaster formula like danny duffy a lot more than i do and i can't explain it because he's been a k guy keeper nine guy for three years now the wall but usually these guys get knocked for walks and i mean even though he's a little bit better lately it's not not by leaps and downs i mean this is not one of those you know one point five walks per nine guys i don't think he's ever going to be close to that if if madison bumgarner does not pitch well saturday night at the dodgers we're talking about him on monday show do you need almost needs to pitch well and it's a little too soon to panic hasn't been like two or three starts game back but yeah that's what baseball is everybody panics all the time but he hasn't looked quite the same to me although like velocity looks fine and what he's throwing looks fine i just kind of an important outing i wanna watch it is and hopefully he'll he won't have as many gripes with the times sunday night baseball cubs and cardinals on espn around the whole gang jose kintana who fits better of late against jack flaherty who i'm trying to trade four and one of.

"Because as far as he's concerned uh mike duffy is what he is and on the one hand we have people like that who who maintain their view of mike duffy no matter what the court says and uh and that's really the problem the that is the existing in the senate today is that they have maintained their position that mike duffy is done the things wrong they don't care uh uh about the uh the judge and the due process and the full trial that mike duffy went through they didn't care when they suspended him and they certainly don't care now i my my hope is it that's not the view of the majority of uh uh right thinking and fear thinking canadians eight million dollars is a lot of money substantially more than his loss and loss benefits what is he alleging the suffer to account for this kind of the of the desired settlement well we went through a in this statement of claim which is some fifty pages long we outline the full extent of what we call general damages which are damages for emotional pain and suffering psychological damage physical health damage damage to irreparable uh almost to his uh to his reputation uh all of that in addition to uh uh the loss of salary loss of pension accrual benefits of the fact that he was banned from the hill uh and so the the uh the complete refusal of the senate to even consider a partial uh payment covering of his cell legal fees in a case where he was charged and and acquitted at the end of the day uh despite the fact that they have a policy that that allows them to do just that so when you when you add all of that together you you end up with a very considerable sum and uh it's it's still will not be seen as oftentimes people call it compensation uh there's no compensating s as somebody in dollars for what the mic duffy has been put through and it's uh it's more a matter of recognition that the way he was treated was wrong now you press conference today you made it clear that senator duffy doesn't blame the current senate leadership or the current government for that matter he believes these offer to the hands of stephen harper harper's pml.
