Government says dogs can dine al fresco but not everyone is on board

"Just in time for the summer dining season, the government has given its blessing to restaurants that want to allow pet dogs in their outdoor spaces, but not everyone's on board. The Food and Drug Administration's updated food code issued late last year, says restaurants can have dogs in outdoor areas, as long as they have approval from a local regulator, Megan Cornelius co owner of San Francisco zasi has jumped on the trend just as the summer's about to kick off. All the dogs are welcome here. We do a Monday night, dog night, specifically on the patio. So all the dogs can kind of commute together. Cornelius adds, it's their night out in the city, and you get $10 off a bottle of wine when you bring your dog, dog owner ilana minkoff is overjoyed by the move. I think that's fantastic. And what that will allow is for people like me who have dogs and love to travel, to go to other states and sit outside and eat. Which means I can now bring my dog when I travel, which is amazing. But even though nearly half of states already allow canine dining outdoors, the issues far from settled, with many diners and restaurants pushing back against the increasing presence of pooches. New menopause drug for hot flashes gets FDA approval

"New relief for menopausal women is on the way. I'm Lisa dwyer. The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new type of drug to treat hot flashes caused by menopause. More than 80% of menopausal women experience hot flashes, the most common approach to treating the problem is hormone based pills, but for some women, those can carry safety risks. The new daily pill from a Stella's pharma is not a hormone, and uses a different approach that targets brain chemicals. The drug will cost about $550 a month. That's before insurance and other discounts. I Lisa dwyer

FDA panel backs over-the-counter sales of birth control pill

"Advisers at the Food and Drug Administration approved the sale of a decades old birth control pill without a prescription. Would become the first contraceptive medication sold over the counter. The recommendation came at the close of a meeting, focused on whether women could safely and effectively take the pill without professional supervision, a final FDA decision is expected in the summer and perego says if that happens, sales of oak hill could begin by the end of the year. Catholic groups, including the United States conference of Catholic bishops, opposed the move, saying women should be evaluated by a doctor before getting O pill, Ed Donahue, Washington

FDA weighing 1st over-the-counter birth control pill

"Advisers to the Food and Drug Administration are expressing some concerns about letting a brand of birth control pill be sold over the counter. A review has been sought by drug maker, parago, which wants to sell a pill without women having to get a doctor's prescription. Women have used the contraceptive for 5 decades, and the company says it believes it is safe for women of all ages. But details from the FDA's initial review find, there were some problems among test participants understanding and following the label instructions. And more concerns how that might work for teens. Reviewers also weren't comfortable that women, with certain medical conditions, would understand they should not be taking O pill. The advisers will hold a two day hearing next week. Transgender Youth Population Doubles, Radical Agenda Exposed

"Referencing a study from the UCLA school of law's Williams institute, which indicated that the transsexual youth population doubled over a 5 year period, gabbert stated. This didn't just happen, this is very intentional and it's the consequence of this radical agenda that is being pushed on our kids. Their rejecting the existence of objective reality by rejecting this most fundamental truth of the differences between a biological male and female, Gabbard reference recent findings from the fruit and Drug Administration, which link puberty blocker hormones to brain swelling and vision loss. Just another indication of the extent to which so called gender affirming care is both careless and destructive. Doctor christiane nusslein, the Nobel Prize winning director emeritus at the Max Planck institute of developmental biology. Recently stressed that taking hormones is inherently dangerous, despite the horrific debilitating and potentially deadly side effects highlighted by esteemed scientists, gabbert suggested that hasn't stopped President Biden from going and telling parents that quote affirming your child's identity is one of the most powerful things you can do to keep them safe.

US approves 1st vaccine for RSV after decades of attempts

"The Food and Drug Administration approved the first vaccine for RSV. RSV is a cold like nuisance for some people, but it can be life threatening for the very young, the very old and people with certain high risk health problems. Doctor William schaffner, director of the national foundation for infectious diseases, says the vaccine is from GSK and it's called a Rex V what we want to do is keep you out of the hospital. And it looks to be about 80% effective in being able to prevent severe lower respiratory infection. Adults 60 and older could get vaccinated starting in the fall. But first, the CDC must decide if every senior really needs RSV protection or only those considered at high risk, the FDA is considering competitor Pfizer's similar vaccine for older adults. The company is now announced a recall involving two 5 and ten pound bags, including bleached and unbleached all purpose flour products. Supreme Court preserves access to abortion pill for now

"Access to the abortion pill has been preserved by the U.S. Supreme Court. For now, I'm Lisa dwyer. The Supreme Court has preserved access to a drug used in the most common method of abortion, projecting lower court restrictions while a lawsuit continues. The justices granted emergency requests from the Biden administration and New York based danko laboratories that make her the drug myth for stone. They are appealing a lower court ruling that would roll back the Food and Drug Administration's approval of the drug. The drug has been approved for use in the U.S. since 2000 and more than 5 million people have used it. Supreme Court set to decide on access to abortion pill

"The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to decide by tonight whether to restrict access to a widely used abortion pill. The Supreme Court set a self imposed deadline of tonight to decide whether access to mifepristone will stay unchanged or become more restricted while there's a challenge to its Food and Drug Administration approval. The FDA approved the drug in 2000 and since then it has relaxed its use extending access from 7 to ten weeks of pregnancy and allowing the drug to be mailed to patients, those relaxed rules could be tightened, adding to possible confusion, a federal judge in Washington has ordered the FDA to preserve access to mifepristone under the relaxed rules and 17 democratic led states and the District of Columbia that filed a separate lawsuit. Extra spring COVID booster cleared for certain Americans

"An extra spring coronavirus booster has been cleared for certain Americans. The Food and Drug Administration says anyone 65 or older can opt to roll up their sleeves again as long as it's been at least four months since their first dose of the vaccine that targets omicron strains. Doctor Matthew Lawrence is at the university of Maryland school of medicine. We do have vaccines that are available to you protect against these severe consequences. So why not use them? They don't do any good just sitting on a shelf. So let's give them two individuals who are at the highest risk. For eligible high risk groups, a spring second booster is a reasonable choice. Though this approval is geared toward that population of 65 plus and toward immunocompromised, everyone can now get the bivalent booster vaccination. So I would encourage them to do that. The CDC must still sign off on the newest round of boosters. I'm Ed Donahue

"A federal appeals court is preserving access to an abortion drug, but under tighter rules. Mifepristone was approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration more than 20 years ago, and it's used in combination with a second drug determinate pregnancies, but a Texas judge ruled recently to completely block the FDA's approval of the drug following a lawsuit by the alliance defending freedom, which was also involved in the Mississippi case that led to roe V wade being overturned. Just before midnight Wednesday, the 5th U.S. circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans ruled the drug could be dispensed, but only to the 7th week of pregnancy instead of ten and not through the mail the decision could still be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. Judge halts FDA approval of abortion pill mifepristone

"A judge has halted the FDA approval of an abortion pill. I'm Lisa dwyer. A federal judge in Texas is thrown into jeopardy the most common method of abortion in the United States, ordering regulators to temporarily halt their approval of the drug mythic prestone for abortion. The U.S. district judge who is a Trump appointee signed an injunction directing the FDA to stay the drug's approval, while a lawsuit challenging the safety and approval continues. Federal regulators in 2000 authorized the drug in combination with a second pill, misoprostol, as safe and effective, the Food and Drug Administration is expected to swiftly appeal. Clinics and doctors have said they may switch to using only misoprostol, which is slightly less effective than the two drug combination. I'm Lisa dwyer

"The manufacturer of eyedrops recently linked to deaths and injuries lack measures to assure sterility at its factory in India. Food and Drug Administration officials uncovered about a dozen problems with how global pharma healthcare made and tested its eye drops during a recent inspection, the FDA reported that the company uses procedures that can't actually ensure its products are sterile. No cow needed: Oat and soy can be called milk, FDA proposes

"The Food and Drug Administration is proposing that you don't need a cow to make milk. With things like almond milk and soy milk on the market, dairy producers have been pushing the FDA to crack down on plant based milk, saying it's a masquerade and clouds the real meaning of milk. But guidance from the FDA says these drinks don't pretend to be from cows and consumers aren't confused by the difference. Under the draft rules, the agency recommends labeling a product clearly by the plant source of the food. The rules also call for voluntary extra nutrition labels that note when the drinks have lower levels of nutrients than dairy milk, such as calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D, sales of non dairy milk are dwarfed by sales of traditional milk. The case filed by abortion opponents who helped challenge roe V wade seeks to reverse a decades old approval by the Food and Drug Administration, a federal judge appointed by former president Trump could rule on the case this month. If he sides with the plaintiffs it could halt the supply of the drug called mifepristone in all states, both with abortion bans and without, the plaintiffs argue the drug was approved too quickly, but lawyers for the FDA say, that's not true.
