A young man to load up your family's minivan with bone thugs to send them to the set and realizing there's no room in the van for you and then you look your mother. And the i as she drives away down sixth avenue up or down fifth avenue to drive bone thugs and harmony. This pre uber. This is after crossroads so no grammy money. This is producing a bone thugs nominee video. And like oh five and yeah my mom said they listen to the entire wizard of oz soundtrack on the drive to all of this is real. You'd make up any of the knows we talking about now. Is this a cost cutting. Move to have your mom. Cater services uber seven rappers. And their friends so i mean have hurricane challenge for the video no craft service. Your mom go yeah. Us accurate brains over to the house. I'd have a whole basketball team in feed him. I can do that. I can feed large quantities of people and sure enough stepped up the catering on a tony touch video bone thugs video wordsworth video. All these videos you will find a moonbat nation. Shout out if you work working there now when the dancers came in for bone and she gave us tickets. But i didn't think i was going to go there now. Decide to go and she was like well. "The number to get in on the show 855. 2124227 NBA playoff action for today is underway. We've already got one game in the books. Sixers beat the Wizards 1 25 to 1 18. And the Phoenix Suns out quickly against the Los Angeles Lakers. 25 18. There's about three minutes to go. In the first quarter of that one, little later on the mix host the Hawks. Very weird seeing both of those teams not just playing each other, but in the playoffs, period, and then the late king. Tonight is Game one. Of Utah and Memphis in Salt Lake City that is a 9 30 eastern time. Start in that one. So let's uh let's get started there as we head into the third hour of the program and talk a little bit about that. That last match up their Utah and Memphis and we'll get the Memphis side of things. Let's talk Tomo through Hill, the daily Memphis Ian joining us on the program to talk some Memphis Grizzlies basketball Drew really appreciate you making time. How are you today? I'm fantastic. It Z been a pretty beautiful day here in Salt Lake City. I'm ready to get some playoff basketball underway here. Yeah, no doubt. It's gotta feel good cover in the Grizzlies. You know, the team that's had a long run of making the postseason, had some notable successes in the postseason and now Now it's kind of a new era of Grizzlies basketball and Andrew. Let's start there. Um, can you compare this generation of Grizzlies basketball and the way the team is built and structure to that? To that grit and grind grizzly nucleus with with Zebo and Conley and Gasol back in the day. Sure, I mean, it's completely different. It's totally different than what it was back then there are Some similarities. I think they're mostly just surface similarities. Um, They're calling this Grizz next Gen. By the way, That's that's that's been the slogan the next Generation of Grizzly. That's the term that they're going for here. Um, they're very different in the sense that the The last set of Grizzlies was really Built on defense and grit and grind and you had guys like Tony Allen and Zach Randolph, who got in there and look things up. And made it really difficult for their opponents to score. This grizzly team is high octane. They are young, um, job. Moran is 21 years old Jaren Jackson Jr is 21 years old. Most people consider those two to be the two best players on the team. Maybe not. This year's Jared took so long to come back from his meniscus surgery. But they are the future of this team, and they're completely different. I mean, John Moran is a totally different player than Mike Conley. I think there's some serious irony that they end up Facing each other in this playoff Syriza. They couldn't be any more different, but they're both equally fun in their own ways. And I think Memphis as a city is finally starting to come around, and you could say that these Grizzlies are probably ahead of schedule. To this new group. They're finding that love to this new group that they once had for Mike Conley and Mark Russell. Yeah, As long as you bring that up. I definitely wanted to ask you about that. So as long as you bring it up, let's go there. How big A story is this battle? Between John Moran and Mike Conley. I mean, not just the fact that Mike Conley was he was an institution in Memphis. He holds so many of the franchises all time records. Statistically, but the fact that they're going going to be going heads up against each other in this Syriza's. They play the same position. How big that's got to be the biggest story of this series I would imagine in Memphis. In Memphis. It is. I'm not quite sure it is in in Utah. I asked when Snyder yesterday what he thought. You know about the trade that that Mike Conley to Utah. And he basically said, You know, I don't know. I can't say for sure that Memphis was the winners of the trade. I think Memphis would tell you that they're winners, too, but he knows that Mike Conley has been great for them. And I think from John Marantz perspective, he has to hear about Mike Conley and the greatness of Mike Conley over and over and over again. But it never has really felt like I mean, he's been respectful, but it's never really felt like he has been holed a really bought into that individual individual matchup. Um, I think he's more interested like If you said Steph Curry versus John Durant was a rivalry or Damian Lillard versus John Durant was horrible Rivalry. He'd be more for that. I think when you say Mike Conley versus John Moran, I don't know if that really moves the needle for job, But I know for Grizzlies fans. It definitely does. And Mike Conley still be loved in Memphis. Um, you can see it just based on frankly, the numbers when we write about the team on right about Mike Conley. Anything about Mike Conley still goes crazy. He's still completely beloved in the city. Um and so Mike's perspective. I think it's a really big deal that he's playing Grizzlies and he said, Man, there's there's something going on here just the way that it was at dinner with his wife watching the last plane game between the Grizzlies in the Warriors. You didn't want to admit that he was cheering for the Grizzlies. But he said he was happy for the Grizzlies fans that they were able to get in. And he said, there's just something going on here because it's really ironic that you know this next generation of Grizzlies talent end up playing him. In his first season that he's an All star on the number one team in the MBA. Yeah, you just said something there. Drew talking to Drew Hill covers the Grizzlies for the Daily Meme fiend.

"Woman that of marriage. I walked it down the hours of father. Wow. Esso her not have any conversation you you wanna have I believe That her voice exceeded whatever weight situation, But I do believe that there were times that she wanted to be better be healthier and any of my weight conversations is always around. Help on people living. I've lost too many people from being obese and overweight and diabetes and things like that. And you know her love to this day. You know, we've done a lot of great things together. And you took control of your life like that, too. But you know what also Back then That was business. Could you have that conversation is they look just business wise, but I think it Z all about what the what The artist is one because, you know, it's not the only artist that has been in that. You know, jazz from Drew Hill. You know what I mean? It's not, You know, it's not the only artist has been in a particular thing, and I believe if we can get the best out of you Where you are, then I'm cool, but I don't think we get the best out of people when they go beast in a way that's gonna hurt the health. So you have to tell jazz Andrew Hill the losing way, too? Yeah, of course, And I'm doing everything that's that. It was not a man of female things. The healthy I'm just saying, like, guys, I know what it is to almost that doesn't have a blood clot in your right leg. Digestive problems, diabetes. I know what it is. So why what will keep that information to myself? No, I gotta have the real conversations. And it's about whatever life you want to have. "The meeting and let's see let's see what we can do with it sitting. In frederick i'm the guy who liked the slow version of my bed by drew hill and it was not the remix not not So how at this level now gotta ask at this level. How do artists handle rejection at at this level of year career people. That know that you're connected to the label. I'm not asking for shouldn't stories. I'm just saying that you know by this point in the mid ninety s. There's definitely a more hostile dial environment especially with the uprising of hip hop in in where it's come to where you know it's about dollars and cents in the popularity of you know. Are you allowed to express. I'm feeling this video or not and you know been you're somewhere at dinner in l. a. m. and you have to see an executive and how come you plan like how could because you were so that period in the mid to mid ninety two the early arts like how did you handle the juggling act of artists and executives egos so two things one is at mtv. We always try to find a place for something. Even if it was just one spin on on mtv on your mtv wraps the weekend version right. We always try to find a place for something that was that was that was that was our mantra that was our mindset. Like someone's gonna love is a an alternative rock could get a play on on one hundred twenty minutes so people understood. We're always trying to find something. That's one two is that i found. It was advantageous to establish very early. That this is a long game. I know i plan on being around for a while so we. We're not going to have this conversation. We're gonna this conversation but we're not going to lose our relationship over one song because you're gonna come back again and you know. Let's do this dance for a long term. Because there's sometimes i'm going to be able to do stuff the way you want it and other times we're not going to not going to so i think i think everybody i think so you saying that. They knew not to bite the hand that feeds them by. I don't see. I don't i don't think i i don't see it that way. Because it's not a matter of biting the hand like what. What could they do not give us the videos or we were especially then. There was still a lot of music being played on mtv and so it just didn't make it didn't make an account remember came. It came someone's ego had to get shattered. That was that big. I mean at some point Like you had been around. I mean okay. Let's take okay. You weren't you. Were going by the time forever. Came out when when when they're puppies forever album come out he nine nine. I want to say know what came which forever have a that was no no but i mean we have a story stout so is there a good steve stoute story. Well steve stoute story..

"Against the zoo. I believe we welcome those of you. Just joining us from across our network were just into the second half. 18 27 to go in it Lucas Oil Stadium, And this is a West regional battle between Seeded Oklahoma, ninth seeded Missouri right now, the Sooners with the lead 29 28. Bill Radzinsky. Will Perdue. Glad you're with us and Brady manic at the free throw line for Oklahoma. His first shot is good. That foul was on Jeremiah Tillman. Yeah, so that for two months, his second, not a lot of files in the first half of total of nine. We've had a couple early here in the second half of the free throw line. Brady manic makes him both. He's got 11 points now leave scoring for Oklahoma. Their leaders 3 31, 28, Mizzou, moving left a riot and Drew Hill had a quiet first half. Jimmy James Smith only three points off the Pinson Pinson, guarded by Gibson. Jocks locked down to 10. True, Smith tries to drive the right baseline gets caught up. Dishes it off to Kobe Brown. He lost the dribble and it's picked up by Oklahoma and an excellent job by heart was coming in from the weak side as they call it, digging, able to dig, get a hand on the ball and knock it away. Turn over Missouri. It's a thought about penetrating dribbles right now does go to the basket and scores Nice move by Gibson. That's his first bucket of the game. And Oklahoma leads by 5 33 to 28 gives a dozen excellent job with the dribble hesitates just enough to get the defense to pause and then blows by. Tillman goes in on man. It puts the shot up. No good, but he got fouled on the play hit the floor hard. Are just lead of the game right now for Oklahoma, five points..

"Now that we're done is unbelievable and their songs were just amazing. That's like ruined. Twelve was and then it just kind of like fell off the table. Then they start dancing like peaches and cream and shit and I was like all right. Whatever like Drew Hill? It's here last albums really good. I mean it was like for union album but a drew hill was pretty consistent. Right through hill was in my bad him on the Remix The guy down second out like when you hear as soon as the opening course tell me come on you start jumping. No matter where you wet used on the soundtrack that was fucking fire. He's had a tummy. Which was that was on the rush hour Soundtrack Rush Hour. South Korea and the I mean Drew Hill. They were very consistent. I just don't think they had an album. The touch twelve debut so it was like comparing careers like having a nozzle. Madigan your catalog and the other really good not as good as that one. Whereas like Jay z. Like reasonable doubt. Even though I call classic and I feel like life in my lifetime value one even though it has to absolutely trash songs on there which I was like scared. Teddy Riley. A baby-faced were both gonna play and Teddy Riley just did Sunshine in cities don't hate. I hate those songs but I like in my lifetime. When I like it was written people will come from my head for this but I do get as tough I do I. I probably say the same like imaginary player. Who Yeah it. But that's always. Do you know when you I duNNo. Jagged edge has no business a lot of jogging as like let's get married like Sh- wasn't views. They love jagged edge jagged edge dudes. Just like I don't see I don't see it because you get like five six songs deep and it's just a didn't then you're leaning low bit and especially compared to one twelve one twelve. They win that even against you know. drew hill mainly because the strength that they had with bad boy and the remix is they could pull out in their features on other people. Shit is to like you. You Play Sky's the limit Joy like you. You could play shit off the mace out like. Oh it's it's too much their features. Were too much. There is a there is somebody made an image of a fake drake versus cheesy battle. Did you see this is i? Don't know in whoever made these songs that belonged on. This list should be shocked because O. J. at all well because they have like onto the next one versus like worse behavior and I don't like why. Why would you ever put those two songs against each other? All right. I'm GonNa find this real quick so no but I mean the drake as good as drake is. Drake is great. He has nothing that is reasonable. Doubt no but see the problem is this is what I was talking about is like what are you doing here is like hits because remember Jay. Z. Ain't go platinum for a while. So hard I liked fun to drake was out the gate firing and then drinks guest appearances ridiculous as well. So if you're looking for here it's you could side with drake depending on the plate throwing Jay Z and Maya joint cheesy Mariah. Even if we want to go hit you go real deep. It's onto the next. I think it's like I think Jesus come on nine fair in my opinion but somebody made this list and I'm going to go through these matches and I was just like. Why would you do such a thing? So the first matchup is hard knock life anthem versus dreams. Money can buy. I have no idea what these two sons period other in her life. One second song is big pimp in versus back to back and this person chose back to back over big pimping. Are you sick? What the third song is tied to backs. Not even a hit exactly. I don't even know on the next song is Tom. Ford versus started from the bottom in. Tom Ford wins. What the Hell's going on here? What's like why is a Jaycees dense s catalog? Tom Ford on the next song is all three bunny and clive versus work. Work wins the next songs. Excuse me MS versus non stop. Excuse me Miss Wins. Next changed. Clothes tastes close versus Esten Peres estimate Music S MARGINS. Wins. Okay Oh no guidance versus on the run on the run wins. What why is ruined her? So horrible fucking. They're still ignoring so much. Like NO DIRT OFF. Won't let me let me say the next off your soldiers soldiers versus sickle mode single mode wins next ninety nine problems versus. Lord knows Lord knows wins next is encore versus the motto. Encore wins the H. Two is overseas energy. The as a wins swaggart like US versus forever forever. Run this town versus know yourself. Know yourself wins. What's what's onto the next one versus worst behavior onto the next one. Winds are you. What is wrong with these people empire stayed in mind versus hotline? Blame EMPIRE CITY IN MIND. Wins Nixon parents versus I'm the one win and odors versus zero to one hundred wins. What's they nor so many Jamesy hits like what what the hell like. Stop first of all. Did you even say a hard? Not Life was the first song and beat dreams. No Dreams WanNa get like both lists are deeply flawed. So it's like Smith up doing this stuff like this really. I'm not saying this beef. This battle will come down to play list but it. Kinda does because we both have these hits but anybody putting Tom for it on the Jay Z list and not putting imaginary player not putting like fro not putting dead Presidents Song Brooklyn Brooklyn's finest on here at all. What is wrong with you? I'm trying to even find like hits. A Lotta Shit on here. Hits wise is like features and if you go feature for feature like to easy as crazy. Love umbrella lessons future. Catalog is hooking all this. But you put Tom Ford on here. Tom Ford No. Oh there's so much heat on those first couple of albums that were singles. It's not even like you had to go too far. And by the way if you WANNA put back to back it should have been back to back versus takeover right like whatever. How do you not have take? I mean my opinion. I'm very big on girls. Girls Girls in Songkrai. Why are those Tucson's but whatever song cry has to be on there with Imola's drink you gotta go? GotTa put the Song Cry on anyway. The point in just WanNa love you. No no no. I'm getting offended Russians. No I just want all of us. A huge like people so they. They didn't hear Jay Z. And so after blackout album. Yeah if that's what you're telling the only thing before then any any amy lists get on lists without public service. Announcement is not null and void. You can't avoid money cash hoes. No money cash hoes right Jawad G-go who they never heard of Jesus before blackout. I'm convention gigawatt. Who Kills Out Chenault Drake's collection right? Somebody put this out and insured. It and then people started shipping. And I'm like man. They should be stopped and Jesus still win their scenario. I don't think he did. I think when you add up. Jay Z Wednesday. Whatever it's just ridiculous so Jay. Jeez still wins and pick half his best hits. Just pick up Tom. Ford some. You'll like top for it. I don't tell me tough. One is twenty best songs nuts. Oh isn't that big? What did oh no no like come on there? Was that dynasty album has. This can't be life like Arkansas pamphlet like you can just the intro. Like Jay Z. Like the king of like intros come on before meek mill changed the game was fire Saddam. Yeah they're they're bugging It looks like we're getting diversities. Dray though East Coast West Coast brands. So we're going to have a bunch of thirty five plus rose olden olden wash shootouts on the Internet. Molly thirty one. I'm a beret with them. Yeah but I already know who's GonNa win and my patriot. No Puff East Coast West Coast battle my heart and go. Let me take your light. He puts on doggystyle taking drake ready to die. Peace talks didn't Produce Radio. I would just go and company. Don't know going puff versus drain. So would puff produce? That's loose very it is loose. But I'm just saying this. Man Has the chronic the chronic two thousand one doggystyle dogpound. Nwea light. It's GonNa get it could get stemming to place dray. I mean man. Look see that's wrong. It's so officer so much business. Yeah I was GonNa say just trag masters and all the what. The hitman like steamy daytime show. I don't know like I don't even know. If he can claim right like zones he can take credit for that like. I'm just wondering what he can take credit that type E could break some heavy d out some Mary J. Maybe I don't like that type of battle needs a lot of qualifiers asterisk like when you come come in. It's like all right. Well you Kinda did this all but not really. I don't know who did this song was you like. That's a mogul versus mogul battle to me. It's like you can play anything. That's under your banner so you can play 'em even if you didn't produce that m saw you can play. Here's why dangerous. Here's whatever's under your daughter and W way for for for Puffy. Listen I think probably has my Jamaica previous wash puffy but I think with drake you play was under your banner and you play like you know. Get Rich address. Die Trying you pay. It gets moved. Yeah exactly It's time you start playing game. 'cause you remember doctor's advocate aim the documentary up. Might I look you got some shit under there was puffing like we really don't know what he produce which ray like sonically like we know what he did and again. This Day aren't be under his banner. They'll see that. I mean puff public and he played like like he plays a true Thursday was jam like Puffy. That's thing like puffy found stuff and like executive producer but didn't really produce it so the point is I don't WanNa see this battle because there's too much is going into this battle I've just does. Is this your song? I don't know came and then then returns like interview and is like well shit now struggle like Nwea man. What oh that's went. Puff got to play the old school uptown records it because it is to do then you play all to. Then you've got California love it depends on what you that's what I was actually Kelly like. There's a big pot. Countered everything snoop it might be the trump card pitch trump card like snoop? Israelis to if when you know putting 'em to the side for a second but snoop is to macy's toughest posthumous thou fair. That's that's not equal. You play twenty four hours later but you can't play feel so good not get something from the doggystyle on how. I played doggies yesterday and I was like. Oh my God. This holds up so well. Yeah like somebody will post on twitter. You where's this Elaine? In your you know your list is a top five top. Ten Top. Twenty top fifty. Somebody told me top fifty miles a year. That's my team actually top ten and might be top ten though like real hip hop heads. If you go through you missed out your top ten top fifteen. I would bet seventy percent or debut albums probably and that's fucking nuts anytime I list by now. Top Ten debut out 'cause by either group or Solo people like Wu. Tang debut album biggie debut album Jay debut album nods debut out like my top albums our audience mob debut. Well no no. I'll do not a debut out what was before juvenile and nobody body. Oh okay all right I get like a recounting infinite for no because like the pro. Well you account infinite for 'em if you count section eighty for cancer. Fuck I CAL SHAKES EIGHTY. I think even though it was more of a mix tape album but it but I'm just saying like just like infinite was like a widely distributed but it was out and it was like his first full.

"Keep a real. Yeah. I mean at all filmed their laps they desperately need some interior pass as actually need some pass rush. Love that pick who they, they got the offense of lime in the second round. I'm a big believer in Sean McDermott, try to get him on this podcast. I think they're going to be good if to me the key is going to be, it's gonna be Josh Allen, if he takes a step. And if at all can be productive rookie, I think they can compete for seven eight nine win somewhere in that realm, depending on how kind of crazy Adam gays and the jets get it together. I think it's between the jets and the bills, you know, I think one of those teams if it all kind of goes, right? Could compete for a wildcard. I don't have a great feel, which one it will be I feel a little bit better about the coaching buffalo. But I like to quarterback more New York. I mean the jets have GM right now. It's kind of weird gays run everything. The bills are much more put together. But again, I like the quarterback. I thought Josh Allen, I would not draft in the first round, then I started falling on social media, foam on Instagram. I love the gay. I mean he's BF SO Sam darnold. Just high level guys type impressive individual you'd want her team. I don't know if he's consistent passer. Now, sometimes guys, take you steps you maybe takes big jumped as office. I'm rooting for him. I really am. I want to be wrong on that one. I will have a smile on my face being wrong. Josh Allen becomes a player. I just think history shows us that typically guys that are inaccurate state inaccurate, because I don't think it's from a lack of triumph things high just a high effort worker. It's not like he's not putting in the time some guys not accurate. Some guys are just naturally accurate kind of. Some coaches may argue with me, but I think once you get to a certain point in your life twenty three twenty four. This is kind of an eight skill either kind of have the touchy adult like you either can kinda hit a sandwich or he can't there's touch involved in it. Now, some guys like Josh has an enormous arm could throw it horrid and his fours Mahomes, but Mahomes can just make the basic throws consistently. And that's kind of been the downfall of Josh Allen. But again, I'm rooting for him. I like the bills. I actually kind of intrigued with the obviously, the patriots are always fun. But yet the bills you got Rosen the dolphins. And you've got the you got the jets. I think it's pretty intriguing division. I'm actually kind of excited. "So I mean how much easier does that Mahler get now that Lincoln's known as quarterback whisper? You guys are going number one in the draft of your high school quarterback. Why would you not want to come play for you guys? One hundred percent. I mean you want me to be on the reclaimed pitches because I'll get him on. Just feed me. Come home. Maybe let's go, you're only gonna make better. They got some good. They got you guys got some good food around there. Good cafeteria. Oh, yeah. I know you like to eat, I like to eat, and I like my free swag from the equipment guy that out imagine. There are a little more liberal, about giving out free close at Oklahoma than they were Fresno. I struggled to get a pair of sweat, remember. We had the same pool over every game. It didn't matter if it was thirty below or eighty seven I think people people don't know, the store that are listening. I mean, you know, it's still people that we know talk about is still the equipment guy in me. Did not get off on the right foot. He hated me and then one time his machine that he watched all the clothes in my school idea was in my pocket. And he washed my shorts and the ID got into like the wherever and broke the entire machine, and they didn't know what was up until they opened up the machine, and it was just a picture of me on the ID ruining the tube. I don't think I ever got anything that. That that's not mine. I denied it. I, I don't know what do we say? They had they had to fly somebody in from overseas to come fix the thing. I mean, Fresno didn't have any barely at any money that's like fifty grand to fly. Classic different. You guys now you're Jordan brand. You've probably got so much swag..

"You've been around, you compare them, new guy, you ran a Fresno state, and still one of the biggest crimes and draft history that devante win the second round late in the second round to how good, how good is this guy? And you know is he kind of guy net now for you guys this season? He he the guy and he may not have all the flash and. All the stuff that marquees had. But this dude is one of the better ones that I've ever been around in my life. And again, I'm almost stand on the table for the guy. You know, I don't know that he'll come out this year, but he's going to have the opportunity to. And, and again, I like I told you I like comparing guys, I've been around before, and you know, we had Davante Adams at Fresno, and, you know, devante didn't run four four zero but, you know, he, he was elite. You knew it his freshman year when he was running scout team. And this guy from day, one that he stepped on campus has been elite as a freshman sophomore. And then next year as a junior and he catches. I'm looking at a picture on my wall right now with me in the background and he's just as fully extended one handed catch to the ball in the air. I think it was UCLA game. And he's, he's tough he blocks. He. He's gonna be you know he runs fast enough for that league. But he's big. And he's developed his body. I mean he's strong looks great right now. He's gonna have a great great season. I mean, not many guys is a true freshman. I would imagine you're time in Oklahoma. I mean was DD still on the team or come on the scene. And play right away and play well, I think he had what like eight touchdowns as a true for was he a true freshman. Yeah. He was a true freshman did. When did you know with him early on in training camp like, oh my, this guy, get him away from the, the freshman was taken with the big boys like that, that transition gopher? Honestly, new on him off a high school film. He was that good. He was that good. And his recruitment, you know, after we offered he committed, and then he de committed because he wanted to go around and see some other places because he hadn't been able to go see a bunch of stuff yet. Did that make you nervous? It did. Yeah. But, but the contact was still there. Still, you know, had a great relationship with us. And he did exactly what he said he was going to do. He went and took some visits. And then new this is where he wanted to be. So he recommitted to us, and it was the best thing we all slept better after knowing that, who is your biggest competition with him. Probably LSU. I think that's one of the trips they went on probably there. Yeah, Fresno state. We were like shed Nov, Arizona state Nevada has and Oklahoma's different ballgame. Guys going against LSU Georgia Notre Dame St.. Yeah, I know. I know you get the call. Hey coach just going to check out some other places. Where are you going? You know, I'm gonna check out Alabama and Georgia. It's a little different ballgame. Would you say you recruit most of the guys like who would you call your biggest recruiting rival? Or is there? We even one it's I mean it's, it's, you know, the guys around here, Texas am, and then, you know, 'cause we get out of our little area here in the midwest in, you know, anytime you go now south, you're gonna run into recruiting battles. So we've run into a couple down there in the south, and but really is just, you know, for, for the most part is around here, Texas Tech saying them, those guys why I remember when we were Fresno Bob used to come into California and get a guy or to remember you got Kenny stills, you guys someone told me that you just had a commit coach on the road kid in California. I think in the in the in the valley like you guys still recruit, California. Still to this day. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, absolutely. And we'll get Caleb Caleb, Kelly on the roster from Fresno. So I love going in there and getting guests.

"What about you? I mean you got another guy and you've told me the story before, and it's pretty fascinating Hollywood. Brown goes in the first round. And, and that was with your bad foot. I mean who knows? If you've been one hundred percent healthy might not have made it out of the top of teen just the recruitment process, a him, you had just lost Dede Westbrook. You need that speedy I in this offense he's he was a junior college playwright talk a little bit of that situation. You know, his weight he wasn't exactly the biggest guy why kind of made it a unique recruitment. Yeah. Yeah. You know, under recruited, obviously out of high school, probably just with the size, and what would you guess coming out of high school about one thirty? I mean he was probably around one forty one forty five somewhere around in there. And you know, went out to junior college in California, and, you know, we've found him out there and kinda kinda later in the process a little bit. And we went all in on him even with the, you know, I mean, he was probably one forty five to one fifty when he was out there at junior college. And we went all in just because speed was unreal. And then you get him on campus and you get to meet the person and he is just phenomenal individual softspoken kid, but very, very likable person. And man, I love marquee. And, and it just it it worked out for him. He came down down here and I remember them and saying, you know, trying to bring him on a little bit slower than we brought Dede we felt we through DD in there and a little too early. And so they're trying to bring them a little slower and. His he's stand about a hunt dentist. Somebody went down against Texas, and he's got his mouthpiece in ready to go. He's all right. Here we go. And it was it was all over after that. I mean he just ran past everybody. You can he can he can fly. Like in fly when you get a guy because like you guys wash them on film two things. I'm interested in one when you say you've got he comes on late in the process does like a coach call. You guys were you, you know, you and they're just banging away the tape, and you just notice them like how does that even come on the radar, and then once you bring them out, and you go head coach stoops or Lincoln? This is marquees and he's one hundred and forty pounds. Like I would imagine you hasn't recruit many guys that way under one hundred eighty right? So I mean it's was that, right? Is that a concern? And even you that loved the guy, you know, that's usually guys like that. Don't make they're just so small. Yeah. I mean Lincoln is not so hung up with, you know, heights, and weights as much because, you know, the offense he can move them around and get them in the right spot. But and we've had success with some smaller guys, not using. No. I mean no, six foot and Shep was, you know, five eleven, you know, marquees we've had a lot of success with some smaller smaller or guys. And, and, you know Lincoln so creative that he's like I don't care how much he ways or how big is he can fly. Let's go get him. And so we went out and, and battled and got him over here. And he did a great job man. Unbelievable. It's, it's any also had some pretty good cast throw into him. It's a pretty good when you get a junior college guy, you know who not really on anyone's radar and then the guy becomes a first round pick. You know, it shows you that no doubt. I asked you this on the phone talking to the other day, forty yard dash. She put the two of them standing right there and you, you gotta pick one Hollywood or Cuyler who would you pick? Oh my goodness. 'cause we, we gotta play this game because neither of them, Cuyler never rent a forty and obviously Hollywood was hurt. He wasn't able, so no one will ever know we just know that they're fast. I know..

"That Keiler like there was no chance of him coming back and playing again, was that on the table before you knew that because he technically could've played baseball, right. And still played another year football. Let's say if like the NFL scouts said, yeah, you're only be a second or third round pick, was that something that you guys didn't know about re-getting go after Jalen, regardless. There was still, you know, during the is it was still on the table. I think you know, with Cuyler, he's really really, really good at baseball and he's he his but his passion is football. And we all know how good he is football, but and I don't know I can't say that, but I know he is always been passionate about football and so there was a chance. You know, there was nothing written in stone that he was just going to strip go to debase ball. But, you know, after the season and the season he had it's like, whoa, this guy's gonna make a lot of lot more than whatever. He made playing baseball plant football. I know this when when him and beggar ever come back lunches on them when, when you're out with them because they just. Coverage or cyber three two million dollars. I can take him. I can I can still take them out. Welcome, welcome. Welcome back to the Bob left's that's podcast. That's right. "But you know, I had been talking to the scouts about him, just because, you know there was that chance at the end of the season. You know, with baseball you never know what was going to happen. And so then when he when he announced and. I mean by the time he had announced, I mean he had played the season you knew he was going to be a first round pick. I mean he's just those guys like him with the speed and the arm strength. Don't come around that often, or maybe ever before. Yeah. I was around Vic and he did. He was a little bigger and Cuyler but he was not an accurate passer. You know, like Cuyler laugh. Dell's my last draft with the falcons and Mike Vick draft. And how many passes you think he averaged in college twenty a game? I mean, all total. It wasn't like he wasn't in the same style offense. So, yeah, it was it would have been less than Cuyler. But yeah, I mean those guys I mean, they had a big arm he could rip it. I mean he could fly a little bit bigger little thicker. But yeah, I mean, they're, they're similar will you will you in Oklahoma when Cuyler was coming out of high school. I was. Yeah. We recruited Cuyler my first year here and didn't win out on him. But I'm glad we won out on him on the second time second time around because around the block. It shows you MS grey part of football Baker goes one overall had two offers come out of high school had to walk on then twice Cuyler. So now in your four years being in Oklahoma. We'll see one of the better. School recruits you've seen. Oh, yeah. I mean yeah you had the same questions that all the pro scouts that are going to had, you know what I mean. He's, you know, five ten whatever, but who cares? And I can remember link being, you know, when he was transferred is like this guy's potential Heisman Trophy guy. I mean, link said that. Yeah. And be dang who'd you have to beat out when he was leaving. Am was it pretty easy or was that then a recruitment that was tough. I think you know, it was I think he wanted to be here. I think this is where he wanted to be. And, and that says a lot about him coming in. I mean that was what makes junior year and then he was going to have to sit behind him through a senior year. And, and, you know, he could have gone anywhere and started, you know, that second season after he said, but he came here, you know, red-shirted ran the scout team. And then and then backed up Baker for. A year. And then came out and balled out and went number one shows, you never know. And then this year. Yeah, you get a quarterback that, you know, I think for me when I watch Jalen hurts. You know, I've never been. I've kind of been on the fence autumn as a player, and then I've seen some videos since he's got Oklahoma where it feels like he's already the team leader. And it's like this guy's a bad ass. You know, have you ever quite experienced it feels like he's got a little Baker to him. Like he just shows up owns the room and people just fall. Get he's, he's, he's got great later leadership skills, and just wait till you see the guy in person. I mean he is he looks like Rodney Anderson. I mean the running back from last year. He's a big thick dude. And and you know Gus speaks and people listen and he's a very intelligent kid and, you know, he's still come on just you know, he went through spring, but he's still trying to learn the offense and get going, but he's with the right guy. I mean the quarterback whisper. Well. If, if Jalen hurts goes number one overall, you know Lincoln might as well just retire. You know. Career. Would you recruited Jada? Did you guys go in on Jalen after did you know going into like by the end of the season?.

"You know, with him it was different just because with Baker, you get to see the progression from your one starting to your to your three with him. It's kind of like just slammed right in your face like bam. Here we go. And you know, with him doing both baseball and football at Oklahoma. Mean we had to work closely with compliance and with the baseball staff to, to work out his twenty hours a week and, and as you know, they're doing spring ball, and then we're having to move up spring ball to, you know, eight o'clock in the morning, so that he can go get on a plane and fly to, you know Waco or Lubbock or wherever they're playing at that week. And I can remember distinctly walking into the players lounge, you know, mid morning in the guys just land it not even on the couch. He's laying on the carpet. You know, just out cold just exhausted. You know, I mean it just takes so much. To play one sport in college, and much less supply to in be elite at both of them is incredible. So, yeah, he he's, so you know, we didn't know he was going to obviously be a one and done first pick in the draft in August camp. But you could tell that moving forward into the season that he was something just, you know, Charlie ward ish. I mean something you'd never seen before. If you had seen it before, it'd been a long, long time, you know, between Charlie ward and this guy. But, you know, you, you just watch him kind of joy, stick around a defenders in, in, in the guy throws the ball, so well, you eat those the ball so much better than you would think, you know, just seeing them in person and seeing him, you know, five ten five eleven whatever he is. I mean he don't throw like that. That's guy. He throws it like a big six three guy. I mean you. Don't see a whole bunch of batted balls. And I think you know, moving through the season and, and not seeing those bad balls. You're like, okay. This guy can do this. When did you start feeling are, are you the pro liaison at Oklahoma, like scouts go through you? Yes. And you you've been doing that your whole career. When did you start getting a field, you know, these guys really, well the director, the head guys, the guy this guy, this guy is not just the first round pick. He's gonna go really high. You know, I think it was probably, you know, mid to late season. I know us all it, and I told the scouts this for the first time when we played Texas, and we were down in, you know, it got to the point where we were down a good bit. And, and the guy just put the whole team on his shoulders and brought us you know all the way back in that game. It was crazy to three to three point game where you know, only him and Baker could do something like that in house like this dude, and then to see him after the game he's just, you know, the guy hadn't lost many games ever in his entire life. And to seem just so distraught after one loss, and, and I just remember talking to the gas, I'm like I've never seen anything like it before. I mean he basically just, you know, put on a superman Cape and brought us all the way back to three points. And we just ran out of time. Basically, I, I know your tie with his family. No. One really well. Did you know by the end of the season that he was all went on football because I don't think that's on the outside really found out. Maybe they'll right right before the combine, right? When he announced he tweeted that statement out did I mean because clearly get drafted that high in baseball and the as loved him. Yeah. Was do you think it was hard decision for them was just something that football? How did that process play out for you? Guys inside the building. Had a good inclination that it was going to be football. But nothing verbally from him or the parents, you know, they were just going to see how it played out the rest of the season..

"You know, he got here the fall before I arrived. So I ride are the spring. I'm sorry. He he got here in the spring. And I got here in July. And you know, I had heard and seen Baker play in in, you know, it took a while for me to get to know the guy a little bit just because he didn't know me. I didn't know him. And I'm trying to meet the whole team, and, and get a feel, but just the different dude. I mean, you know, very, very personable very likable guy in, in the guy wasn't even he wasn't on scholarship. We're going through August camp on like holy smokes crack. No, he's gotta sit out. Did he practice with the team that's spring when he came to the school? He I don't know that I wasn't here. I think he did. And, and then we, we went to camp and we're kind of going through the season a little bit. And Bob's like. If we got a scholarship open, let's just put him on now. And I'm like, yeah, we got a scholarship open, so we went ahead and put him on. And, and I kinda didn't know that the guy wasn't on scholarship at that point, which, you know, you go out there and watching slaying the rock around you like holy smokes. When this guy going to be on that now to hear Trevor quarterback right? That, that year his Trevor yeah Trevor. Trevor baker. Brecker was running this team. And and you know, just going up and down the field and doing it with intensity like it was a real game. You know I it was unbelievable to watch. And so, you know there was a battle the next year between him. And Trevor and, and he ended up nudging him out and the rest is history. I mean he just kept getting better and better every year. I remember last year Lincoln told me because I asked him what was the first time you knew you kinda had something special. And he said that it was I remember watching this game on my couch that game against Tennessee. We guys know kinda played like she it down on the road. And then I mean this comeback and him just leading the charge, you know in front of, you know, I don't know how you know hundred thousand people there and yeah, it was it was one of the louder games. I've been to, and it was like, oh my this guy's pretty good, and that would have been his third game ever starting. He ends up going a couple of years later, number one overall, you, you run around a lot of first round draft picks. He's been around Derek Carr one was the first time like. When you were around him when you went, this guy is going to be a legit NFL player. Not just obviously knew he was a good college player that first year you guys are really good. I think he went to the playoffs, but like you like this guy's legitimate first round draft pick. It would probably have been his junior year,.

"To quarterbacks, but the major difference in the NFL than the NBA is the NBA, and I follow the NBA closely the last four or five years, taking has become an episode. Democ. There is probably you could argue close to a third of elite. There are thirty teams around ten of them tank, actively tank, actively try to lose games to me. It's a big reason why the NBA has suffered in the ratings people are like so many markets aren't even trying to win the resting players with the NFL that they don't just don't have that issue there only sixteen games one they never rest players in even when there is a great quarterback maybe week seventeen teams actively tank, but I looked last year, and I'm in my backyard, I happen to have two of the worst team from two thousand eighteen the forty Niners in the raiders. Both teams I repeat both teams were to in ten heading into December two nd ten both teams. The, the raiders are great example, they were to in ten, and they even more than the Niners the Niners lost Jimmy. Garoppolo. They didn't actively head into the season. Trying to lose Jon Gruden did traded Khalil Mack. One of the best players defensively, the last twenty thirty years, then midseason trade at Amari Cooper, cut Bruce Irvin, we'll just getting rid of players, left, and right. They were two and ten hated heading into December. They went to of their last four games. They finished four and ten and they ended up before pick overall that had huge ramifications on their draft pick, because it was kind of a three player draft once kind of Murray went and the two top defensive lineman. Then there was a huge drop off and they ended up quote unquote over drafting a player can you imagine that if they just would have tanked properly, they would pick second? They wouldn't picnic Bosa. But they don't take. Why because no one in the NFL tanks players don't tank coaches, don't tank. It's just not a taking league even when you're the raiders, and you actively kinda tanked three or personnel moves, but they still try to win. And then they did. They want to other last four games. So the lottery says not necessary the drama of the season. Unlike the NBA, which regular season has been borderline rendered relevant. I mean I, I watched a ton of NBA games. It's terrible the product during the regular season has never been worse. The playoffs look like a completely different sport. It's a great part about the NFL or the playoffs more intense. Yeah. Because it's kind of it's a one and done sport. But it doesn't look that much different than the regular season you watch good regular season game..

"Right, people, get jobs that they have no business getting whether the friends with the right person whether the friends with the person that's influencing the hiring position, it's we all can relate. If you run a business. Hopefully, you try to avoid hiring people like this, if you work for just different businesses, especially bigger companies, you work with a lot of slaps, and turns a slap he can have a very, very important job. Now, if you're at the top of the food chain, you're eventually going to get exposed, Mike maccagnan had no business I repeat zero business ever being gentle manager. But at the end of the day he was tight with the guy was influencing the person making the higher, and that was. Charlie casually who had hired him with the Houston Texans and was in the ear of Woody Johnson when he was looking for GM, and then it was clear in his ten year with the New York Jets, he never should have been a GM. He had no business being GM. And this offseason is a perfect example of this guy is being over his head. Here's the thing. Adam gates. He's should not. He's the inner GM right now. I think it's pretty clear. They're going to go after Joe Douglas with eagles hire someone that he knows. And he's he just wants to coach. He is dependent on having a good personnel guy with them. But one thing is clear, whether whatever you think about Adam gates, it can't really be argued that he's a pretty good offensive coach. And what he did Miami that first year with Ryan tannehill. They made the playoffs and what he's doing what Peyton Manning what he did the year would Jay Cutler in Chicago. Like I Adam gates proven now he's a full. He might have some flaws but he can coach he can, especially coach offense. Now can't get along with. People will be able to figure out what Greg Williams, you know, that was somewhat of an arranged marriage. I don't know. But I know that Adam gates deserve to be a head coach. Again. Mike mcalinden will never I repeat never sniff being general manager again. But Adam gays the entirely and I talked about it earlier this week with levian Bill levian bell, not showing up for for training or not training camp. But voluntary workouts. And as I said, when you get to big boy, jobs, and when you get paid a lot of money, some things are voluntary in there actually mandatory the jets who might mcalinden was bidding against no one. I know a team that was in the running for Levy on bell. There was basically you're gonna get him for one year, ten million dollar deal, and they almost tripled that by giving them two years in almost thirty million dollars, essentially, what the, the deal works out to be, but Levy on bell, not showing up these first several weeks of mandate, or voluntary minicamp, don't get it twisted. It's. Voluntary. I would imagine Levy on bell beside the injured, guys was the only person on the jets roster not participating and stuff like that. That's an embarrassment. When, when you were just the jets bailed levian out of financial hell because he had embarrassed himself by turning down the fifteen million dollars, then the entire league the market spoke, I think Levy on bells kind of a slap. But I will never say these not a baller. He is arguably the total the best running back in the league him or girlie girlie healthy. You could probably throw Zeke in there, too, but Levy on when you factor and he can run inside. He can run outside can catch the ball. You can find out why there's a wider he can do it all. He can literally do it all this guy a guy that could do it all had fresh legs the entire leagues at I pass, and I get running backs aren't that value. But the entire leagues at not feeling it Adam gays reports have come out did not want them, especially for that. Price tag in mcadam, still did it. And to me, the moment, levian bell, stop showing up exposed mccaghren. Like this guy is he just planned fantasy football because one who was he bidding against, and then to Adam gates is going listen. We're overpaying this guy..
