"In wednesday's practice was trae. Wayne's on the bengals side And then we've got a few on the limited side from the vikings so all in all pretty healthy teams as i just said Going into week one here not a lot of missing pieces for both teams. And that's that's good for them. You're going to get a good look at you. Know kinda pretty full cupboards for both teams going up against each other. I think the one there's two. Doug is notable names. Anthony barr is limited. And i don't know if he's going to be a game time decision or not. I think zimmer said something about him in practice today off the re up on that but kristen dera saul was their first round pick. They treated down. The first round passed on a guy named justin feels embarrassed ogm and he was drafted to potentially start. Your one left tackle. He i think was only doing individual drills Today on wednesday so it's not looking like he's going to start or even i don't even think he even played practice a lot during august so right now they have reshot hill slated to start tackle so for looking down the road at you know where injuries could hurt. Likings probably might be it off his line of that. that's why. I don't even think they're assaulted ready to play regardless even if he was healthy but it looks like he's going to be one of the notable outs with anthony. Mark kind of lingering in the air as a questionable. Yeah conklin A guy that so. I shared I forget who. It was. Who relayed the vikings i depth chart. I shared that on the water cooler chat yesterday and they had a dare saws. The backup left tackle at this point in time. I think that may be because of the injury. Went up but Yeah so he's he's limited conklin Who was believe listed is. They're starting tight and he's limited bar a guy who's been a pretty good linebacker for a while in the nfl. He was limited as of wednesday. We'll see what happens to your point there but Alexander madison a backup running back to delve and cook and dede westbrook a guy that some people felt that the bengals should have pursued in free agency but they did not They were all full practice for the vikings there any other bits of news. You wanna get to john before we proceed into the next. I know there's i mean we're we're pretty caught up especially with The water google chat from yesterday. But is there anything else that you want to talk about as it pertains to recent news with the bengals the vikings etcetera that we didn't cover so far i think we should address the bombshell potentially of last week and only i don't think we talked about it Adam jones coming on shannon sharpe program and revealing to the world. That e has adopted two of chris henry sons which it's another layer of this mystery of jones post nfl life. It's mostly been disappointing. I think unfortunately we've had the cover. It a lot of cincy jungle but it was kinda nice. Writing an article seen him open up to shannon like that and revealing the past of his relationship with henry. They were never teammates with the bengals. Which i forgot about link henry pathway right before jones joined the team twenty two against in west virginia exactly and they were jones of the first round pick. Henry is the third pick in two thousand and five so they were boys back then and then everything happened with henry. And i guess jones has been in His fiancee's life Ever since taking care in helping raising those kids and it was like a conjoined effort with his his ex fiancee now so like she's still going to be in their life but like he's taking on an official Role for these two kids without their dad. And i thought it was great again. Another adam jones is like is the ultimate onion Keep unr- Revealing these these layers of his personality So much this story this just another thing out of it. When are we getting the thirty. For thirty. On adam jones and honestly i life football career. When is that coming Because like you said that i had onion analogy is is a good one Because like you said there's so many layers and quite honestly some of the layers with adam. Jones aren't very pleasant There's a lot of stories in his background. There are a lot of good things in his background. Like this story. And i like you. I was surprised. I don't exactly know the depth of this adoption and everything you know but it sounds like there is a very very very close knit type of situation with this and Very cool to see that he has stepped in and done some things in the memory of his son. We talked about this a little bit on the water cooler chat yesterday. But i'm glad you reiterated as this was a really cool story and one that Bears repeating for sure especially for a guy that tends you know his and by his own doing but as he tends to get dragged model bit publicly because some things that were in his past so some of which unfortunately not so far in the past. I'm assuming some of it's been pretty recent so but hey good on him there and It sounds like there's there's something good. That has come out of that horrible situation with chris chris henry and his untimely passing the other thing not to switch years from something. Feel good story in an emotional wine. But i wanted to ask you about this. Because this was in terms of the timing. We know the bengals wanted to maybe get a developmental quarterback on practice squad at this time but the timing and wear this player came from and the one they cut to get him on the practice squad. I thought was things that make you go. right Jake browning a guy. I knew a bit about because he played at the university of washington played with john. Ross and You know when when he had that receiving core there he was he was lighting it up and then things kind of as guys left and things you know you kind of saw some of the words and browning's game there but a guy who is now on the bengals practice squad and was very recently with the vikings. So is this in your estimation john. Something where you think the bangles or playing a little Week to week clipboard. Magic here and trying to pick the brain of a former. Vikings quarterback is this guy that you think's gonna stick around. Long term is a developmental guy and potential competition for rain and allen. Down the road Jake browning versus brandon allen. I dunno probably the former I was tasked with writing an article about potential quarterbacks in the bengals can sign to the You have to figure there. They have to have one more in case of some of the code. Emergency even though most of the quarterbacks available right now they're they're not good in browning is no exception to that and i didn't know that browning was with the vikings recently. He was with him in the off. Season when i saw on the wire that the bengals picked him up practice squad. Like i remember something about brownie. Not only did they play with john. Ross washington journal williams quarterback in high school and folsom california they were both like really high star recruits back back in the day so i figured that's a connection. Williams had some intel on browning than they need a quarterback you know might as well. There's no rule other better options. Aside from jake browning then. I learned that he was with the vikings and then that kind of started really nit like they cut a guy in drew crispin who they probably have future applications with wanna keep them around at least for another year to see if he can take over for kevin huber. he's no longer the practice squad because grounding. They are playing the vikings this week. I don't know how much jake browning knows about what the vikings are doing. Because i don't know how much work the third quarterback really gets out intimate. How much intimate knowledge he has the playbook but it probably is just gathering himself and the bengals worked out another form of viking colin hill. A cornerback so maybe they were seeing if he could join on..

"Shrek did come back onto the practice squad. They they were able to do the same. With noah spence. Which is a good thing keaton sutherland. A guy who has been around for a couple of years trump. Taylor renou ran. That's good news. Buca williams trivia on williams so Your your thoughts on the on the practice squad. The shah williams depends tackles. My was my Was my guy from years ago. One sax now in six years but as far as this year's practice squad taxes it's surprising. Maybe i think we figured that. Patrick and moss. We're gonna make it just for general intrigue just for development purposes but good goodness trey gone back. Guess now they have six to to practice with both linebackers at figured. Only one would make it through but both botchy in kion jerry jones. There's thaddeus moss drew crispin. I think expected made it back as kevin huber's air two cornerbacks. Tony brown and winston roasted a lot. Lot of doubling up in a while as tied into with with mason shrek I think they probably would have preferred to have one more offensive lineman but i think the only other option was michael jordan or gunnar. Vogel and jordan has found a home with carolina. And i guess that relationship kinda needed to end any ways and there's no reason to keep going vogel anywhere near the cincinnati bengals at this point in time so but trivial williams renault rendered like the lasting impacts or lasting members of beyond around of zach. Taylor's rushed hurried. ill prepared twenty nineteen class. So we'll see how long they kinda stick around. Maybe maybe we'll see some action later this year injuries up up. The i've always had high hopes for renault ran by injuries and all kinds of other things. A lack of development have Not not allowed him to be the player. i hope i had hoped he was one glaring omission. I guess we could talk about in our next segment a little bit is well. No no quarterback no quarterbacks you mention Emily to on the active roster. Does that surprise you at all on this cam. Newton wanna join the practice squad. I don't i don't something tells me that. He you may not be down for that I think he's got an offer from bishops sick more right now he's come over that whole thing. Good things just ridiculous. Yeah i mean. "End units on on defense because as you see fourth quarter they'd give up fifteen points they're just having some fluky plays by miami that ended up getting them the win but You know the the groups through i mean given up fourteen points through three quarters. With kind of a patchwork group there You have to like a lot of the things that you saw there In terms of the defense there's ec trayvon henderson agonize game as well in the reception for twenty five yards a guy trying to make Make the team as a backup. Backup safety there. I mean he's been on off this roster for a while and at a nice night tonight Trayvon williams one return for twenty three yards not allowed to kick return punt return to action Here's trent taylor. You know the guy that was supposed to do a lot on on special teams air one one return for minus one yard dairies phillips did have a punt return but it was fair caught. So you know nothing. They're kicking game myo my this. This might be the best story from the bengals or the best performances from the bengals. In the preseason how they're kickers are playing and you may save big whoop but that is a big facet to a lot of different a lot of different Successes or failures really with a lot of different teams. In the bengals credit randy bullock had for him a good bounceback of the season at times last year after that debacle in week. One But you know at the end of the year the writing on the wall. The bengals were kinda healthy. Scratch them and trying to see what they would get out of other kickers and then of course they drafted at i. What has evan mcpherson did done this. This preseason i'll just been perfect. He's been absolutely perfect in the preseason for the bengals. I'm gonna play this one. This is evan mcpherson and This is the bengals twitter account fifty seven yards right before the half little blurry i apologize but fifty seven yards and he would have hit that from sixty five. I mean it hooks. But the power on. I mean that that was absolutely drilled drilled Fifty seven yarder here from evan. Mcpherson the bengals day. Three pick at kicker. He is looking like a weapon. It's it's going to be. I don't want to jinx the poor kid. It seems like the job is his. It's going to be interesting. Inevitably he will do all kickers missing extra point kick or whatever in the regular season. It's since he hasn't had that issue in a game in the preseason. It's going to be interesting to see how he can bounce back from that. I don't want to have to experience that. I hope he kicks. Perfect but You know sometimes. Rookie kickers and kickers. In general they just kinda like what you mark jason They get funk and it. It's a mental thing but You know right now. This kid is just playing extremely extremely well. And kudos to austin cyber as well who hit another field goal and in all likelihood you would think he's gonna be playing somewhere very interesting situation. Playing out here are the bengals trying to do some weird poker game where the hang onto two kickers and try and deal one For for draft acre another player. Or what have you. I don't know. But i i don't think they're gonna keep two kickers just based on the crowding of certain other position groups but it's just kind of an interesting food for thought type of thing if that's what they may do. I don't i don't see it happening. I really don't but the kicking game is looking quite quite strong for the bengals namely in evan mcpherson wet. He will bring as a rookie as a kicker mike. Ross in here says it's sad that our best player in this draft class is injured. Oh cy in our kicker yet. But like i mentioned cam sample is playing pretty. Well i think tyler shalva is going to have a role particularly as you see. The games developed against the afc north in those teams wanting to run the ball late in the season. Getting that big guy in there that's going to be You know we don't. We don't know exactly what's what's going on with deontay smith in his role going forward but he seems to be pretty promising. So there's there's some promising players. Jackson carmen seems he's still really on. He seems to kind of be on the upswing a little bit now we just gotta get chase catching in securing the football. A lot better and it sounds you know. Oh oh just. I mean it's a big deal but You know. I think. I think he'll be okay but that needs to remedy itself. Pretty quickly in there are other players in this draft class that You know will be will be contributing just a matter of how in when etc so it does also seem to me that kevin huber will be the team's punter drew crispin was activated but did not punt on On sunday night against miami. So kevin huber three hundred fifty yards total. They're one inside. The twenty. seems like this may be the last year they'll go. Hang onto huber. Trying develop chris and then maybe go from there but That's kind of the the tale of the tape in terms of stats and whatnot. Now there are just like. I said we can talk a little bit more about this before we get outta here but There are some hard decisions to be made by the bangles air. How how deep do you go on offensive line particularly in the interior. How deep go on the defensive line and and how can you generate a pass. Rush outside of sam hubbard outside of trey hendrickson. And how are you able to create a situation by committee to remedy the loss of aside. Because oh cy there's not there's not someone who has the athletic profile and overall raw in terms of who's left on this team but can you generate it with a conglomeration of hodge noah spence camp sample. I mean can you create something that comes pretty close in terms of potential production. That aside would have given you from a pass rush standpoint in like you'd like to think those guys are capable of doing that and they've been kinda showing it in preseason They've been showing it in preseason so there's there's a lot to be excited about. I know it's it's hard to say. Let's get excited after loss but it is a preseason laws after all not a ton of work by the starters and the guys that you wanted to show up and play well to grab a final roster spots to compete for a spot to compete for more time even though they have a roster spot locked up for the most part they played pretty well. They played pretty well. The offensive line is is far from perfect. I think there's going to be continued improvement as the year goes on. You may even see a different starting five later in the year than you do at the beginning of the year. But if you're gauging the sack. Totals through gauging. The quarterback hit totals if your gate gauging the pressure totals..

"Guy never made it to the big leagues like i was a journeyman you know so should they have played it better. Yes but is it very possible that actually whatever they get for a compensatory pick and basically the second round next year will be better than i don't know a couple of sea level prospects that they would have gotten a couple of days ago. I think that's very possible. I don't think that's unreasonable anyway. Drew crispin joining us iraqis insider from. Dvr is all right so on the other side of things on the on the defensive side pitching side john gray was the big name there and that was the one i was really concerned. And i know. I'm a fan boy of john gray but just just trying to be analytical here. We've talked about it and said. Hey pitching is where you've got to build you got to build around the pitching trevor stories. Nice nolan earn auto. I get one of the best third baseman of all time. But if you don't got the pitching you're not gonna do anything and we talked about building continuing to build around gray What does the gray situation look like. I mean that seems like there's potential that a deal could get done and he could remain iraqi. Yeah and it looks like the most likely outcome to me. That was kind of the other really funny thing. These two things are happening at the same time. People were insisting on this narrative that trevor story proves that nobody wants to be a colorado rocky. But we're we're getting all these quotes from john gray about how i just wanna wear purple. I wanna be here for my whole career. This is where i wanna be. I wanna be iraqi rockies coming out and say we want john gray we wanna build around this starting pitching and i think that was actually the other bigger storyline and and a lot of people are against us and i totally understand what people have been saying. What is the rockies plan. They have no plan plan. more clearly. emerged over all of this and they basically said we're building around these starters. Were not gonna plan to be bad for the next couple of years and just tank everybody else. So we're going to build around these starters we're gonna signed free agent bats in the off season because we believe that we can improve our offense and we already have great starting pitching bullpens but all until things in sports in the bullpen has to be dramatically better. But you don't necessarily have to spend a ton of resources to make you feel better so well the rockies feel like their forever away from contending actually agree with their assessment that with this starting pitching group. They're not. They need some bath and they need some creative solutions in the bullpen. But with this group of starters with gray marquez freeland. Dahmer sends tele right behind them with peter lambert ryan roulston and us all eras like they've got top and talent. They've got depth. They've got guys who are used to it. We're talking about this on the podcast. The other day brady the rockies of never in their entire history had a group of veteran pitchers who all have experience of course field. I've ever and that's something to think about well. And what's interesting about this whole thing. And i know it's been frustrating. The nolan thing that trevor thing. But it's like you've kind kinda tried that and you put a lot of money into those areas and it didn't really work you've not as you just said you've never had this. Many collective pitcher starting pitchers that are better pretty damn solid. You've never had that and and freeland got off to a slow start because of the injury. So you've never had that before and i like the old saying you know if this doesn't work we'll go back to what wasn't working before exactly right exactly right but i i'd love to see them double down on this whole thing really go hard in the pitching. Yeah bring in some bats. But i do believe if they spend creatively in this off season they can get right back to being a decent team because it really does look at what they've done this year. Look at how terrible they feel like they should be but aren't did that make sense. Yeah i yeah and it's because of the starting pitching how many games they've been in. Even a lot of these games lost looking at last california trip. They could very easily have swept the dodgers in la. Now they dropped two of three. They won one and big fashion there late. But that's again. How far away are you really. Well when you have starting pitching of this caliber. You're not as far away as it steals You have to plug all of those other holes. You can't have great starting pitching and one of the worst bullpens ever and one of the worst offenses that your franchises ever put out there. That's the rockies. Are this year. But if you make a in fact i've seen them you can use the colorado rockies great pitching and a mediocre offense and bullpen can get to the postseason. You know how. I know that for sure they did it. In twenty seventeen and twenty eight eighteen. I watched them now. It's i tell you and this season to drew. And i know i know we're not dreaming big or anything but these next few games homestand here. Four hundred five hundred. You're you're i think i'm just looking at sixty five. That's all i'm looking at the over and under i've been i've been thinking about that all year because so many people are all. There's no way they'll even get close to sixty five sitting at forty six. You got plenty again. How and you got a nice little homestand against teams that maybe you match up well against in chicago and miami. Yeah for look i. i know. Some people are rooting for the higher draft. Pick But you know for people who just like winning baseball games one of the reasons. I was adamant throughout. These wouldn't clues one hundred. This year was one the starting pitching that we just talked about and to the probability that they weren't going to go all out sell. Tear down rebuild the way some of these other teams do. They've never done that. And there's mixed science about how successful that really can be worked for the astros and cubs not so much for the pirates in mariners. But you know the fact. That i was like they're not just going to get rid of everybody and other teams. Are she got the cubs whatever's left of them coming to town he got the nationals. No idea who plays on that team anymore. Like you know. And so if you like to win games that rockies up some very winnable ones And they've also been in improving team because of so much youth. Well some of these guys are like twenty seven years old but they've never played major league baseball before. So you know. Of course they were going gonna have their biggest ups and downs. Mostly the downs at the beginning of the season when they're still apple meeting to the level but i think they're in for a strong finish. I picked him seventy wins at the beginning of the year. And i'm feeling better and better about that every day. Honestly yeah well especially the last one. What three out of six or whatever. They're winning games now. So road trip man. Yeah feels like a victory. Feels like a world series at this point man with drew appreciate. You always man. What are you working for that we check out at dnv iraqis. Yeah just published actually right before coming on here. A big thing about rimal top surprising But the thing is here. I feel like i've written twenty five articles over the years and done so many podcasts about his bat and why it's a little different than people realize but this year he's been extraordinary defensively and on the basis and i lay it all out there. He's basically gone from a guy who is a net In those particular swamps to a guy who's major asset and that's a big development for him so that's the big one up right now. He took a gigantic leap. No doubt about it drew appreciate always man and we'll catch up with these soon. Thanks brady krugman. Dnv are rockies. Iraqis inside looks. Like mellow is going to the lakers. "The drive this will be the night play it drive that was extended by a fourth down make a pass from drew Crispin Cyril they picked up twenty one yards in the first down Bristol or for the badgers goes out he went head to head with another defender and he is in the injury to your side second in cruel cruel heiau state from the seven play action now feels looking to the back of the end zone it's called the end but by Chris so loving and a penalty flag is going to be thrown in the late I was thrown away after Eric morale was on the coverage the only thing I could think is maybe the receiver stepped out of bounds on the back of the end zone and then was the first to touch the ball I think that's what it was but he never actually got back in to make the cash so it wouldn't have been a good catch either way there is no way the receiver never re established and bombs the ruling on the field is an incomplete pass third and goal from the seven this a big third down it is a big third down play by the way that play was very well defended that was on a lot of stuff going on up into the plastic with this process and everything and very disciplined depressed by Wisconsin right there Ohio state one for five on third down third and goal from the seven shot gun the Los four fields time to throw one gets away from the defender now is going to be just war Wisconsin soon.

"Sponsoring the PODCAST I we're back in radio with Kyle Lamb and let's get right back into it here here's the next question and this is one area that I think everyone should be critical of is the return game a special teams right now is is a non factor which can be good and bad right especially teams a non factor you say well that means we didn't do anything screwing up which is a great thing drew crispin and the I've been awesome the kickoff coverage has been awesome the kicker sucks but the coverage has been great but the return game I don't see that explosion that when we used to have Jalen Marshall back there even go back Ted Ginn or some of these other places that have these dynamic returners in this state we just talked about the skill where is that dynamic returner that's interesting because I was thinking about that the other day is long as I can remember watching Ohio state there was always one really good kick returner and punt returner that could take it to that in Ohio state doesn't have that right now it's funny was I think last week Morio McCall fair caught a punt return where there was like nobody within and I felt like clearly I think that there him holding onto the ball is having a residual effect on him being willing to make a play because I feel like they've ingrained in him so much you gotTa hold onto the ball you gotta hold onto the ball now he's afraid to make a play because he's having problems holding onto the ball and he's really the one guy I think they throw back there consistently that could make a play but now they've got him scared do so and Gary Wilson I think get Wilson has a chance to be a good return but he doesn't have that lateral quickness that some returners do and I think that's holding him back little bit plus being a freshman I'm not sure that they wanNA throw a minute that role just yet at least permanently so yeah I think they have the guys but the guys they do have right now for whatever season they're just not working out well I'll tell you right now and I thought I said this when I recruited them I said it when I watched him play told urban this they have an all American and kick returner in Jamison Williams they do yeah he is he is Ted Ginn reincarnate he is a straight line fluid I mean he eats grass when he run head down and I read it and they have it so I promise you next year were never they let him loose he'll be back there returning kicks but I've always just think about it was Jalen Marshall and then after Jalen left it was really we didn't we had Curtis Samuel but urban didn't WanNA use him back there since Jalen left there hasn't really been a great returner no there hasn't it sad because there should be you know what's interesting I did notice I was going through because I was going through some play-by-play data for games this year and I know shocking right the staten are going to play by play I don't believe it interesting nationally the part return averages are down by like four or five yards in return I don't know why that is I can understand with kick return because the the rules you can fair catch kick returns understand why that's down and statistically better than just to take to twenty five now but punt returns down to in that avent been able to figure out why that is that's a great point I don't know why I mean I I would say punt returns or down in the last ten years because a style of punt teams just how wide open and spread these teams are back in I mean I remember when I was at Florida everyone was a vertical set had big tight ends on their coverage teams and it was like Oh my God you were drooling they hold them up for one second you might score it was unbelievable but yeah that's that's rising rugby punters out there now I remember ten years ago you'd see a few here and there but now let's over half the teams rugby punit Oh yeah Australia man taking over the world well that that I think that's a great kind of mid season picture of Ohio state on offense and kicking game it over to defense what are you like what don't you like what are your or is there anything you don't like about this defense there's really not I mean I know that there are still some people that don't the linebackers of the greatest and let's be honest me there aren't any AJ hawks out there there's no bobby carpenters but it is still it has been a linebacking core that is still a the average I would take them over probably ninety percent linebacking core is out there the way they're playing this year absolutely and when you you know you just give that steady linebacker linebacker play that are just making the plays that they need to make an of course Maliki Harrison has been great barren browning has really come on strong you put that defensive line and that's secondary with just a good linebacking core and they have got a really really good defense is it the best defense out there maybe maybe not I liked Wisconsin's defense despite what happened week I like them a lot but I think Ohio states combination of speed skill and physicality it's it's good as defenses or is out there for sure absolutely and I would view that Maliki Harrison Barrett Browning Pete Warner as as a trio there's not gonna be that much better in the country I mean you look at Alabama no I mean I don't know who does who has a better three linebackers now you start subbing in some guys that maybe aren't as good as those three I know tough Borland is a hot topic and has been for like what feels like eighty years She might be that old he's a better place this year though because last year they needed him out there they were nobody else will stepping up this year is a good place because they can take their spots with him can be out there more on rundowns and they're not gonna he's not going to get exploited in pass coverage as much as he was last year and that's because Beirne Browning stepped up so I like that with him because they don't have to rely on him and it's really helping and they just the depth that linebacking core a lot better in the scheme switch judge scheme switch helped helped the tough borland's of this team immensely and I I I couldn't agree more though I think defense is probably the best defensive line I've seen in my career Lsu had one with Tyson Jackson and Glenn Dorsey that was I mean it was ridiculous but this is right up there with them I mean you talk about Jay Sean Corner which obviously chase young everyone who how could you not about him but I think the defensive line and they're even getting young guys in their Tyler Fridays and they're playing a bunch of dudes I know this Persson has been used before it's not unique but really reminds me of win Florida state in the nineties started the wave of of coming at you with with second and third team defensive lineman's absolutely it it really reminds me of the Florida State Defensive Lineman defensive line teams because they had all these guys that were freshmen and sophomores come in in the fourth quarter when you were tired and fresh legs and that's what is seen is doing right now it's not just chase young like you said I mean they go ten eleven deep on the defensive line with no problem and it seemed like they had for four straight weeks injuries at the defensive end just somebody else would come in and step up but it was still making plays this role the next one next man up next man up here here's the hot topic that that that I think people are not talking about obviously first of all I've said one hundred times I'm sure you agree I'm sure I think everyone agrees the Jeff Okuda's the best corner in the college football right now he is as far as tackling ability coverage skills just other than I can't remember what game it was Ah Indiana I think he came out and forgot there was a game for like a quarter other than that quarter he's been just just locked down absolutely lights out it is it's amazing because last year they would throw go away from throwing at him because there were guys you could exploit Damon are net I'm looking at you last year there were legitimate chip advantages for other teams this year they're going away from Makuto because it's just the lesser of all evils they're not taking our as much as who you're gonNA throw you're gonNA throw it net you're gonNA throw it wait or are you GonNa Throw it Okuda there's just not a good answer there the great news is our net has stepped up and playing potentially as a first round pick himself it's it's really crazy how well their plan but I agree I think Okuda's a lock barring injury or something unforeseen to be a top ten pick and I think our net and wade or both second third round picks it not first round picks themselves yeah I think Sean Wade will be Arnett here's a funny story about our net so I recruited Saint Thomas Aquinas in south Florida that's where nets from and I was back down there he was probably a freshman or sophomore I was down there and I was talking to a kind of high profile high school coach in the area I was talking to him with a guy that I didn't know he was at the time Georgia's secondary coach Donahue he has doesn't matter I'm sitting there and he asked me the Georgia's senior coach said our house our net doom and I was like you know what he's wildly undisciplined he's an asshole in a good way in a bad way but he could be a first round corner and they both I mean nick wanted to fight me about it and I love what I'm watching right now because he's not playing like a first round corner in my opinion but he's not for all and and that you couldn't have said had a year ago now you couldn't have and that's where I I've said this on unscripted Ohio before but I I really commend him because he could have done the easy thing he could have gone out to the draft would've been fourth fifth round pick probably but he had a chance to chase his dream but he said no I can get better I can come back and realize my dream and he did that you know he's he's tarred clearly he's matured yes you're he's still Damodar net you know you'll see him get mixing it up a little bit but he's keeping his composure and it's just he's playing and it's I think the guy would point to if you're a coach and say this is the guy that did it right you know he he had his issues demons but it came back worked hard and and then now you rolling jeff halfway also getting coached at a high level again in and you're watching development that should have been two years of development not just this year and so luckily he had the sense of urgency and as they say trying to secure his bag as motivation but he's he's he's playing better than than than I would have even anticipated so that's that's definitely a good thing here's here's the next question for you what is the bullet position so the way I understand it it's kind of a hybrid linebacker safety position to come in and it meant for you know meant to cover the inside receivers and they exploited if you're in a traditional four three you don't want it you're inside linebacker trying to cover a slant pass so does it exist at Ohio state well that's the thing we haven't seen much of it have we I mean we were told all coming in season and the season that we're gonNA see a lot brenna white out there and that just hasn't happened and I can't figure out which position it is like if Pete Warner's fission than than they are wildly they have a large spectrum of bullets they have little bullets bullets fastball it slow it's like a mere reap Brennan White and Pete Warner all play the same position I'm confused now maybe it was a thing for the media to create buzz I don't know it was was a.

"Me off the mailing list you can know about the I'm telling you the invitation to all the former athletes to come to a former players come to practice either yeah I don't know much Sir from the somebody. that's right all right out to the crowd we go with our questions and mentioning those loyal people that come each and every week yo welcome back how are you doing I'm doing great very good what's on your mind label is already stole my thunder about three times sorry there is that why you were asked me to be any somehow yeah are you still there so Joe it's all about adjustments mantle not making. that's right exactly doesn't do any good Italian because you just did it anyway you don't listen okay all right. anyway a few weeks ago two or three weeks ago bill made a prediction that that we were going to have a defense of score and he was right and he was right. is he ready. a. kickoff or punt return for a touchdown how those are kick returner is look compared to their kick defenders eight spent like a decade actually since Ohio state had a kick or punch through you know it makes it tough anymore yeah. yeah they change the rules so much you know because you have so many guys catching now when because the kicking strategies change before what you wanted to do you want to kick the ball like all that magic rectangle which is clear from the bottom number ten yard line to the back of the end zone the rectangle you want to hit you want to get good hang time Sir coverage team could covered in and squeeze the ball thank you for the twenty yard line will now the stray geese change were kickers are now trying to get more height on the ball and make a fair catch and so they get the ball to twenty five yard line stuff like as to the rules is really a factory in in regression upon putting you become such a and are now with really kick the ball put the ball to air is the field so accurately it's tough to get a good return in fact this is the true Christmann game Michigan state last year memory at five inside the ally yeah and that I was they didn't have much going off and so we will one twenty six to six mostly bill because of drew Crispin being so precise with this part yeah well return man likes to see is a long time with no hang time yeah you can catch a going forward and then get your blocks all that but it's become such an arts getting tougher and tougher but our guys as good as anybody I with their speed quickness but you know the return games change a lot I will say this in terms of the punt return game Dave Garrett Wilson is still.

"We're GONNA make fun of all of this like swinging sixties style but then Goldmember was straight up like we're doing a bond movie it. We're not even GONNA pretend anymore. Yeah like beyond say is going to play it would always kind of like not just problematically play with like race but also like women race like I hear the two bongos Bambi and thumper thumper is going to be like this black girl but like poofy like you know the poofy abused. Afro ups and Thumper is going to be like a sweetest blonde. That's just what they do so Bambi and thumper and what yeah come on man I couldn't you have a name plenty. O'Toole that is not a name of somebody names at shot yeah. We're GONNA get an email from plenty hughes me listen. I come from a very room. Line of my father was a plenty plenty. My son is plenty. Did you read any of the Comex or collect any of the comics James Bond Comics I never did I never did it. Part of it. I think was because you either have the novels which were like super pulpy or you had the movies which were movies and awesome in the comic books always felt like this weird have stepped between nine. It's like I'm not going to get what I want out of this because like marvelous but in these comics sad and I'm sure it's a good idea but the things that I respond to in a bond film as like a fourteen year old boy not showing up allows things for fourteen year old boys there was the new one thousand nine hundred three was actually the first bond video game which was developed by the Parker brothers and was released for Atari however that is not the one that comes to mind for all the nine hundred ninety seven seven first person shooter Video Game Goldeneye okay. We're going to seven and sixty four baby because if he's about to Wax Poetic Woah hold on I it's so funny because I have never seen a single james bond film but but I have played many Goldeneye Goldeneye special in the sense that it had it normalized first person shooters it changed the game literally and so you know it got people well aware of of crappy hit boxes with odd job. If you chose odd job you were a horrible human being and so like everything about golden eye is so fun and they recently did a source remastered for pc so you can grab that if you're the on the PC master race but you know it super it was fun and what kind of sucked was it was so good so nostalgic that our bond game aimed never was able to survive a around that I think there was like was it a diet. It was either die another day or What is the one that came out for? PS Two or ps one nine fire night fire. That's what it Saint James Bond 007 night fire for ps two. I think that's what it was then and it was it was great. I just remember the Golden. I was the first party game. I'd ever really play yeah it. was you know like it was it was a game where somebody had an end sixty-four before you go over and always be like five or six people in that house and for them would be playing golden at any given time and there was and it was it became a social event in a way that video games hadn't been for me in the before and there was always like is in the screen was divided until his four boxes right so four people were playing at once giant screen. There's always one screen where some person could not figure route how to focus on the floor. I just look straight ahead bells. Els next level and you know just talking about Goldeneye. It's crazy to think that insects before launched two of the biggest like multi player Party Games not counting Mario Party but you have smash Rose Golden. It's crazy to know all that came from the insects four totally. I'm curious because as we're going over these the key actors that play James Bond to me Pierce Brosnan was my James Bond because he was who I was first introduced to grew up with until Daniel Craig came into the picture. Who Do you consider your James Bond Good. The first bond movie I ever saw was never say never again so sean connery as my button I think I've seen more Roger Moore James Bond movies. MTV anybody else and that was more contemporary for me like I was a kid of the eighties and he was late seventies into like eighty five eighty six. I think but it's kind of always going to be Sean connery for me and even like never say never again is when he's the old Abban. He's willing to pay. Bond is just and it's a remake of another bond movie because they're like. MGM Has the lock on James Bond Movies and they have for since at the very beginning but there were some weird dispute with screenwriter of Thunder Ball and he claimed some rights to it and so that's the one movie that if any other company he wants to make they can remake thunderball and so it was thunderball in the never say never again which is just a remake of thunderball again and so I I remember that that was a summer and I was a bad boy at school and it was just coming out on HBO. I had forged my report card uh-huh forgery that junior high school. You're really really good at all right so we're GONNA. I'm GonNa make these fs as because nobody will notice that and these these are going to be bees that totally works six and and I had told my parents like at length that I really wanted to see this movie movie and then when they caught me in my master forgery they were like you can't do anything in for summer so you know Caribbean parents. That's how that goes. Oh yeah so so from June through September I was like locked in my room but then like Wentz winced once I got paroled dad had videotaped never say never again for me whole present for me as I completed my my rounds in in the big house house and I remember watching that movie and loving it to death even though it's not great yeah but it didn't matter yeah this was this was the price that was your freedom. This is my freedom for like I'm give it's funny. talking about like your James Bond's and stuff like that because you know Danny you say Daniel Craig was yours but when Myers broads favorite bond movie casino because the Internet was not unhappy with Daniel Craig during productions. They had a website called Daniel Craig is not bond dot com to express their satisfaction just in case you you think the release the Snyder cut crew is a new thing we been wild nerds have been awhile in on the Internet for the history was very three. Yes that was a huge thing blonde. These weird big years yeah because he didn't have the same debonair. You know his good What am I trying to like small laying right before him pierce had like but it's also funny because you're going based off of just a portrayal of a book look at least in Comic Books. It's like I seeing something but in a book it's like like when it was a big thing with rubing black you know and lots the times it's real funny to see how like just accurately described black features in books always seem to be just skipped over by a white people people when they read it where it's like. Oh curly. Oh must be ginger. You Know Yeah Yeah. It's always like wild to see like you know just the way. People are just conditioned to whitewash but it's even crazier when it's like you know just a white dude on paper could be a white dude on screen but just we've grown so accustomed that they were so mad in the now you know people are like mad that he's not gonna be it and it's funny because that reminds me of because people are we're so quick to forget on the Internet because now Heath Ledger is everyone's favourite joker but when you boy was announced people were mad. you know little not as much as him because now they've kind of learned a little. Robert Pattinson people have fought aww man well anyway. It's funny because like it just got a went to show you people who don't watch movies outside of Comic Book Movies when they're like. He's not a good actor was a goal. You haven't seen anything besides twilight gives off. Hello Bruce Wayne Vibes totally have to take a really quick break. We're going to hop back into the future of James. Bond right after this. Hey what's up nerd fan. We got a new podcast that we want to check out. Yes ear wolf has a new podcast. I can't wait to see what the to Knicks do yeah and also interview fellow Comedians and specialists like Henry's brow ski from the last podcast on the left Matt Kirsch from probably science and JC Coakley from fashionably late yet subscribed to get rich nick now in your podcast APP aw and we're back. I just wanted to show you this picture so this is what James Bond looks like to Ian Fleming. Not It's not really far off in my opinion from some of the like Sean connery also it looks like Alfred the Butler yeah. He also looks like that weird guy from the first Charlie of angels Israel's movie you remember the one who was smelling drew Crispin Glover Chris could how could I just be Ojemaye. Oh Jimmy Fly yes. This is interesting. This is like the interpretation of what an Yeah Ian Fleming's James Bond not quite in my opinion so what we're looking at will we'll we'll tweet this out but not quite He looks more like a librarian but that's what it is. It was an ordinary man should chimney sweep yeah yeah so now. It's the fun to talk about the future of James Bond and I am the end. There's lots of fun things that we talked about in the past that you've kind of educated me on on and that begs so many fun questions. I often foremost you know the big news that has come out from the new James. Bond movie is that there's a let me get this correctly..

"I was gonna say scrappy, like yeah. Scrappy, scrappy, wasn't even cooler scrappy do. I disagree. You were a scrappy doo fan. You were the one. Scrappy, Scooby was great. I say it holds up. I'm not like saying, I want you, you a scrappy doo fan. I like scrappy scrappy, scrappy, nothing killing me. He's adorable. He was a marketing ploy. So. Like every cartoon has some kind of marketing ploy. It wouldn't have surprised me if all of a sudden, like back in the day, if you see scrappy like ticket a puff on a camel, Joe or something like that, because you're like, oh, why smoking OA back in that day, didn't really matter. Like that's what I'm saying. Like everything is a marketing ploy. He's talking about. Well, you know, if we're really up to me, I can't do a scrappy voice. So this. He's just like you know, if we're up to me, I'd like to -cation Breckenridge like what is he talking about? Everything's marketing Benjamin. It's marketing even a segment probably got marketing in somewhere. Like just Breckenridge is really delightful. Delightful place vacation Breckenridge reminds me of my roots back in Rudo. So. When I was a young boy and canyon. That bit any Andy Griffiths. It's eighty Griffith pretend to be a real lawyer and like all these anecdotes young bowl iron whipper. We don't canyon. I have not seen it from back into the early nineties. All right. So the Rockies to the Rockies you'll grill rails accessible, I know the Rockies have been have been so much fun. They have been so much fun. And they legitimately should have swept the Padres, they should have swept the frigging Padres, you wonder coming off of that going into they, they've forty eight runs and that but they gave up forty four. What their mindset would be heading into this series in the diamondback. I gotta be honest. I came into the saying pray for two and one pray for it. It's what? And convincingly, honestly today today got close close today's there's some tension there and I'm gonna be honest those that game it was a little low started getting a case tight cheeks, you know, kind of watching that basis loaded bit there at the end they want Scott over Oberg is nails and the sooner you realize that and everybody out there realize it, it was close to that. I liked it but it was all season. I was I was, I was worried. Over one point five, oh, ERA. Oh, sitting here, watching me, and our buddy, brenick rextall, was over here, and Dave and Rick. And we were watching the end of that. I had a case tight cheeks man, I was like this Washington, it was on TV it was on TV listening to. You're listening to it on the home. Right. The rockies. Yeah. That's the only way really to do it. We're watching the producer rich, right? Yeah. Yeah. I can imagine now. Jeff hop only went to two thirds. He eight eighty two pitches to go to and two thirds. He's going to have to do better. Yeah. That's that's inefficient, the beauty of it for the Rockies really is the Diamondbacks, man. They, they got five Robby Ray at five walks today. Now, Jeff hyphen and four robberies. Pretty solid pitchy at nine strikeouts. He's one of the top guys in the league strikeout, but he walks ton of dudes, what generally, what happens when he was strikeout pitcher. Yeah. So he gave up quite a bit walks being both teams struggled in that the Rockies give up eight walks today. Diamondbacks gave up nine so a lot lot of players on base today, and they have no answer whatsoever for KENDALL Marseille who's been just sensational for Zona this year. Batting three or five had four hits today but. The end Rockies get it got the dodgers coming up the dodgers playing tonight by the way against San Francisco. We'll keep you updated on that, which a little scoreboard watching Benjamin, we get Chessel. We can actually the Rockies are in where they at by the way, the wild card. Have you checked this out yet Rockies? Yeah. Man second-division don't know whether in the wild card, you're supposed to be up on these things like a busy afternoon or something. Yeah. Right. Chock full of. Solely going on. Right. Rockies rock. Rocky Surra half game up on the Felise the right there with Milwaukee. If start right now Rockies were players would be that they are. I do play the rest of the night and obviously, you know tied with the tie. The brewers. I like I like the fact that everybody was, you know, crap it all over the Rockies at the start of the season, and I was like, you know, just have a little patience. A little patience, you could start cold. If hit me and hit me at the end of June. If they're still they're still cold, that point, then we can start talking about, you know, I hate to baseball, you have to be patient in baseball if he patient and people are willing to be paid to series three series and all work canceling season. Tickets out three and twelve a tough start. Ben everybody's excited. Sometimes you gotta wait just a little bit. People have a little patient. People were saying that Jeff bridage and the Rockies new to build off the past two seasons of success Benjamin. This is what this what they needed to do. They needed to actually win the frigging division for the first time in franchise history. What they done up until this point last year's was good. You finally made the playoffs. Great. It's patient that they're sitting out there that lamenting this, this cold start. And I'm like, look, the Rockies are like John high right now, the sitting out in front of the piano have a little faith in me. You solely have that kind of ninety that cat tonight. Three three seven three eighty five eighty five. That's our phone number five six six nine zero to bump back with that, you know that's going to happen now. "You know, only Elias state football could draw in a crowd of sixty two thousand plus people for a practice. Oh, yeah. And it would have been more, you know. But there are quite a few seats that are under construction. So good points. We've had up to ninety thousand for a game for OSU spring practice game in that crazy. I love it. Well, that's what that's what we're talking about. What we're talking about Ohio State football. And I know that you know, it's an exciting year because people were going to see what's the new coach going to be like house Ryan day going to be they wanna know all the new transfer quarterback. Justin, feels we're going to see him in action is he's going to be as good as people thought. But Maria people got quite a treat, and it wasn't even when the game was taking place. No, in fact, and nothing to do with the game really didn't have to do a lot with one of the players. That's right. And can you imagine having sixty thousand people watch your engagement? That's what happened yesterday. Drew Crispin is the OSU punter and what a punter. He is. Well, he kicked a winning field goal. Not gone, but a place kicking field goal through the uprights because drew you propose to your longtime girlfriend in front of that huge scarlet and gray crowd. You're on the phone line with us right now. Are we doing how you doing? Well, how you doing? How you feel an after yesterday? Hey, I'm just sitting here with my my beautiful fiancee. We just got out of church, and you know. That'd be better right now. You gotta go to church. It's Palm Sunday. So good for you guys. Louis. Well, we were gonna play sound for we had sound all like potted up and ready to go. But we didn't know that we were actually gonna have you live on the air. So now, we get to talk to you live on the air. We had sound ready for you. But tell us about why you did it why why their actual capacity. No, yeah. No. I've been wanting to do it for a while. And I was talking about the weeks ago when my buddies and he was like man at the screen game. Which is perfect house. I guess I don't know. I don't know possible. I never been done before there's gonna be a lot of hoops to jump through. But so I started working on it a couple of weeks ago. And I finally got it cleared this week the week of the game by it'd be able to do it from coach day, our director the game day guy, and they were all fantastic about helping everything making sure everything was good. And she had no idea time. So she had no idea where you were you a little bit unsure are uneasy that she would say, no. How would that have been in front of sixty thousand people? We had a we had a backup plan case. She said no I'd be currently at another school right now. How fun not Michigan though. Right up north. Up north. No, we're close nervous. At all though. I mean, you knew the moment was coming, right? When she was going to try to kick the ball, and you could say nervous. Yeah. I was a little nervous was the fact that she'd say no, it was just a huge decision. You know? I know I know she's a and it all worked out perfectly. Oh, it's certainly nervous about. And you know, what I thought was just wonderful. When you see the video of your proposal is like right afterwards. All of your teammates, everyone came to the field to congratulate you I mean, what was going through your mind when this was all happening now. Yeah. That wasn't planned at all. I thought a couple of guys on the team works spread pretty quick. I bet like half the Team New is gonna do it. But no, I mean, that's just that's the third team. You know, the brotherhood w have I really felt like they were a part of it. And now, he's just awesome to see them. All. Or was there any point that you were going to say, oh, you know, what I can't go see with this? We actually right before it happened. We all made it didn't happen. We can we have some technical difficulties some communication error, and they were still sitting in the sand. Right started. I was like, okay. They should at least be on the field right now. But now we had someone run up there real quick and get them. We we actually faced it as a a kicking competition. We're going to have kickers girlfriends come down to kick at halftime geared up to ready to kick the ball. She wanted to win that competition, but see one hundred instead today, he would you what happened, but she claims she would have put it right through. So we'll see that's so funny. I we are so happy for you. Did you think this thing would explode as much as it's done because it has really almost gone viral. Everybody is watching your engagement engagement jumped not just here in Columbus. But across the nation. Now, I didn't. Thought first I was I just I just want to marry. The woman I love, and but yeah that happened. I'm glad she's a little she's getting some fame too. Feel like six through TV stations. She ended up. Well. Right there with you too. Can we put her on the line? You're on speaker. Okay. Okay. So we first of all congratulations to you too. What went through your mind when he whipped out that ring, and you didn't get to kick that ball after you practice, so hard. Honestly, the first thought that went through my mind when he was stopping me from kicking the Vaud thought that I did something wrong. And I like I needed a starting a different spot or something. But as soon as I saw the little box. I I was just in shock you. It's like I don't out all the crowd in cheering and everything I just had to like focused on him. And what he was saying that it was just I mean, it was an obvious. Yes. For me. You both are just two darling now. So you you have the engagement, and I know that the next question people ask is all right. Do you have a date set? Where are you going to get married are people asking those questions already are they gonna get married in the shoe? Yeah. Bring game. For now, they're gonna say their ideas. Now, they they literally asset right after I said it I was like, man. I I think pets is point. It's just been too crazy with all the social media and everything we just decided. Okay. We're just gonna talk about this tomorrow. Tomorrow. Well, we really appreciate you coming on the what matters show with us today. We are so happy for you. Thanks for making time with us. Thanks for starting your day with going to church too. How often is that Maria? No, hopefully, others are hearing that as well. Yeah. So you guys, congratulations. We're going to keep tabs on you. And you know what drew good luck this season big season coming up with a new coach and everything new goals. And we're pulling for you, buddy. I'm just trying to be as happy as a u Mindy and your husband thoughts all your little video on Twitter. Crazy. We're stopped everywhere. Now and people say people call Randy sunny, sending share it's so funny. But yeah, maybe when you guys make your twentieth year anniversary, you can do the same video. I got you babe. For you, buddy. Good luck this season. And thanks again for coming on the books. Thank you. So we asked who I think that may be he may be right up there now is one of our favorite buckeyes. It's a question that we asked earlier this week who is your favorite all-time buck. I I have to say majority of votes went to Woody Hayes Archie Griffin. Eddie George Angela pace who used to be on channel ten for years. She common and she said, I don't know why. But I had a little bit of a crush on John Frank. I interviewed him once. And I was so impressed with his manner and his plans for life after football medical school. I thought he was just fine and Carol Looper who used to work with Maria. She said, John Hicks. He was a super kind, man. And a man who I used to work with Larry foster. He said hop along Cassidy well jail time favorite and these are all legends. And I still just don't have one pick this very very hard to pick. I mean, I'm really going to have to think about it. But we like drew now an awful lot. But it's funny because everyone has their own reason like Maria was saying earlier, you have your own reason why you have your favorite player or favorite coach. And I have to say if I really was honest with whom I favored Buckeye is Jim trust. They knew you were going to is my all time favorite Buckeye, right? Didn't play at Ohio State. But if you've ever had the opportunity to meet that man, you would love that man in everything he stands for so not a player, but a coach he's my all time number one. I have to go with trust very impressed by him. I saw him maybe about a year ago. And and you know, he hasn't been in Columbus for a while. And when he saw me he was like, you know, shook my hand. Hi maria. How you doing? How's your health? And I was just very impressed because he remembered his he remember, and you know, how many people he's met through the years. And yet he remembers he is always said to me he. You will remember your name? He can meet thousand million trillion people the most times he's going to remember your name because listen to this everybody the biggest compliment, you can give somebody is their name. That's wonderful. I that's true. I mean, because if you think of all the people that he meets and he remembered you how special did that make you feel that he remembered you and your health? Oh, wow. It's kind of nice, isn't it? Do you remember people's names? I don't remember much of anything anymore. Fifty one years old my mind is like shot. I was reading church today. And I was getting ready to pay the collection. I love my envelope at home. I'm like, I'm losing my mind these days. So do I remember names who are you again, exactly? All right. We're gonna take a break because we may not remember much, but Maria Durant, and I want to help you guys. Save money this spring in summer their number fro we can't remember so AP Ohio and Columbia gas along with the city.

We've were about playoff. Bobby never allowed. No fewer than three goals in a game last night only gave up one and really after the first period. He was outstanding in the second and third period. Period. Game. One was the best I've ever seen him play out. Stan. Is they want to get into the playoffs? And maybe they have found the right time to peak just like the buckeyes last year at the end of the year struggle. I mean, you say struggle they only lost one game, but they hit their stride. At the end the air Bill. I gotta ask you. I you played at Ohio State under Woody coach with Earl and coop and trust and everything drew Christmas today during the spring game at halftime, obviously at is marriage proposal ready and Ryan day said, yeah, I was aware of what was going to happen. Ended up being pretty cool. If you go onto Woody Hayes said Woody halftime spring game. I wanted proposed by girlfriend with that have gone over very well. Well, what he would look at very simply and said, well, that's fine. And you get married to the game because you're not blaming. Free time all the coaches, I play for work with an Earl would have just been mad of in Kupa. Was it Billy? They do out there. Tryst would just stared him. So it's a little different thing in today's world. But hey, he had to play the game. Yeah. I like this comment that we have on Twitter before we're going hear from drew Crispin, but I have to fake gra-, Greg Madison. The new defensive coordinator on Twitter says Matt McCoy, did you see how we eliminated all those big place. Well except for that ninety eight yarder. Michigan asked. That was the third team defense there. He didn't get as gold. Didn't get gold pants on Friday everybody else. That's right gone. That was my defense. You put sixty two points on they gave out the goal pants in big ten radio. You know, they lost in store today as a big recruiting day. It was a lottery crude sin and to see those guys get their Rose Bowl. Big ten championship rings kind of impressive. I mean, even though I mean, I would say sixty one thousand for spring game with nice weather is a little bit to be honest with disappointing. I hate to say that because we're used to hundred thousand for whatever reason, however, as I said you can count on one hand the number schools are going to have sixty one thousand people out of spring game. Bill does that make an impression on kids when they come in for a glorified practice and see that kind of support? Absolutely. I mean to see that type of crowd, and I'm Chris Carter Chris for Middletown. Now, we're state and Chris dropped the first pass. That was thrown to Earl was tell the story and they came right back through the same pass. They caught it the next time said all kinds, of course. So Earl asking me say, Chris, why did you drop that ball? He said coach there's more people here in the whole city Middletown. That's that's like the play in that stadium is to bring your a game. Didn't Tom to drop his first punt to I snap as punter because Earl Earl again God or coming up year where we won't since we lost him. But he would also tell the story about how he was really looking forward to seeing to Papun because he'd been killing the ball. And he's one of the best punters is days ever ad and he's like looking in the air for the ball. Like, where's the ball of many looks back office nap? Yes. Hopefully, none of that will happen in the fall for some of these guys stories on to Glen Mason, punting Cote house long, snapper. Coach Glenn was the punting coat and Tom his first punt in practice about eighty yards or someone unbelievable. And so may start to say something to him about his techniques. Mason don't you ever say that kit. Exactly. Well, if he stopped talking to him because the rest of his career was Dr. Pretty darn good. Speaking of punters, drew Christmas with maybe the play of the day with that marriage that we just talked about he was asked about it. Obviously. After the game. Remember, he he took the microphone because he had six punts inside the light that among the two, but congratulations to him in Avery. Even though woody's probably looking down on what is happening. Spring game. That was pretty cool pretty fun. We've talked about office defense. But really one thing we missed today day was really kicking game. Which one things I thought that Jim tressel did it was it was a great not took it over to ODU to when we'd have the special teams screaming, and I'll tell you guys would open that up. And that was actually I thought what is this? When he first brought it it was actually kind of fun to watch fun to watch every play was upon or some kind of special teams everything was a special teams play. And you know, a lot of those guys are the same guys all you know, all game long. And then they go back to back place for like an hour. Wow. Yeah. Congratulations drew Christmas and the play of the game coming at halftime when he proposed to his girlfriend Avery and she said, yes, we'll come back as we start to wrap up our best Buckeye coverage. "Way Bill calmly Eric resear- back with you our best Buckeye coverage post game show following the spring game. How about drew Crispin by the way out about that the Buckeye punter down on a knee at halftime as because he's the holder as though you was going to let his girlfriend kick a field goal. But then on any pull out a box with a ring on it. And they got themselves in gay. That's something you don't rehearse. So he'd better had a good idea. Just to say, yes, that would have been terribly embarrassing. Maybe the MVP of the spring game with that very good. And you're you're right. I mean with sixty five seventy thousand people there that'd be kind of bad if she said, no she the in running out of the opening of the stadium. I would not have been a good exactly the gray team won the game thirty five to seventeen couple of other staffs in their master Teague who we just had. A question about seven Kerry seventy five yards. A couple of touchdowns running the football. Marcus Crowley, who you mentioned the young freshman. Ten carries for fifty yards and the touchdown. Justin fields. Eight carries for fifty two yards and a touchdown fields. Just four of thirteen passing. But a hundred and thirty one yards in that ninety eight yard touchdown. Ben Victor, another guy who played pretty well. Was Jalen Gill kid out of Westerville south seven catches. He was leading receiver in terms of catches seven catches for ninety five yards. And I will say this. You know, we were just talking about Bill can you tell stuff from the spring game? And you said really it's the fourteen practices before this one isn't valued any more or less, but Brian heartline did say during camp he was asked about most improved receiver and somebody that's coming on. Jalen kills a kid that he mentioned, so he seems to be working his way into legitimate playing time potentially. Also, a big thing to break in a lot of times on special teams and those guys when they prove they get the job done covering kicks and covering punts and things like that. Then you get chance to play your position in the spring game and do well, that's that's important coaches. Really look for that. Dave on Twitter says how come we didn't see Jordan fuller out Jordan, fuller out? There fuller was has been injured. And there were a lot of guys that you. Did morlin. You didn't see? Yeah. And coach Dave mentioned it some guys didn't get many reps at all because they barely played. Yeah. You want keep at that stallion healthy. I tell you what he's a good one. That's the other thing when you try to evaluate off of this game. Like there was an offensive explosion in the second quarter, which was cool and the fans guy knew it, Eric. But I mean, let's be fair. I mean the ninety eight yard touchdown pass came against the third team friends. So it was great. And it was it was a good throw, and it was on target and Ben Victor made the catch. But you typically you're not I don't know how much you can take out of that looking forward to the fall because of who the competition. Yeah. I don't think other than it was a nice moment for the fans. There's just nothing there. Because that kind of I mean, look it was a great throw a great catch, obviously. But yeah. And I think it goes to my earlier point of where he was just trying to get them comfortable. And then in the second quarter. Like we saw he's letting them aired out more because hey, all right. So we got this kind of out of the way. We you got a couple of handoffs zone read action. But throw the ball downfield a couple times give the fans a little something show this arm talent because all three all all three or four of the guys have armed talent. And so you saw that on display, and that's great. But yeah, nothing is there anything to Bill with a young guy like Jalen hill who red-shirted last year really talented player of. Okay. Let's see how he does in front of an audience. Does. I mean, you can count on one hand the number of schools are going to have sixty five seventy thousand you know, years before they had over one hundred thousand at a spring football game. Is that an advantage in terms of does that add to any evaluation tool that maybe a Purdue can't have where they got, you know, eight thousand people there absolutely is a stage. It's not a stage like game day. But it's the second best. And show that in front of your your teammates to you know, that shows them they have confidence in you. When you make plays like that. And you know, there's some guys some young freshman kid on a defecit. I thought looked exceptional day. I saw ninety seven. No, no. Yeah. True freshman, so you know, you bake a couple place early in your career in front of a crowd in Ohio State. It really gets somebody's attention. You know, we haven't really talked much about the defense. But how much of I mean, take me through the spring. You've got a completely new defensive coaching staff. Save Larry Johnson. I mean, he's the only one that's new how how long does it take? We're talking about player new players meshing together. How long does it take? Greg Maddison Jeff half the code offensive coordinators at Washington all the new defensive pieces from a coaching staff standpoint. How long does it take for them to get a rhythm so to speak and learn how to work together? Well, that's funny. You mentioned that because one of the three that's one of the three things I thought was most important today to get the staff working together. See we have to make a decision what you get into the season. But guys on the sideline what guys are going to be up in a box. And what's the communication going? Be who's going to be communicating with you? And I this really important. Now, the fortunate thing is these guys all been around the block, but they had to work together. And get those things done is very important. I thought today was a big step for those guys. One thing Ryan day also said Eric was that from an offensive standpoint in the fall, he's going to be a play caller. But today and when they scrimmaged in the spring he had Kevin Wilson. Also Mike usage the new passing game coordinator calling plays. He said, I just want us. Everybody to have that experience. Kevin wilson. I mean, he's got plenty of that experience. But you know, there's a lot for the coaches to evaluate in terms of value in themselves tonight feel like that's what I mean. And Bill correct me if I'm wrong is what day served primarily as today was he's the evaluator of everything more so than a play caller more. So than a scheme guy was how does so. And so look in this this situation. How are these coaches communicating? With their position coaches with their assistance. How are we getting calls at the correct time? He was even talking at halftime like I know it's a running clock. But I'll stop it. If I want to and that's his job is to manage all of that. Because when you get into the season, and I I know I called it a cheese board slate that the first part of the year, but FAU's a real opponent and lane kiffin going to want to beat Ohio State. And so at that time he serves as the head coach this is the chance he gets to just figure out everything got a better sent in the horseshoe. Yeah. I think he's in everything I think you take he he said during the season earning spring. He says, you know, we got great dish near we're not changing things that the believe me there's a day way. And he's going to want to do it the day way. And part of that is evaluating all that. You said something interesting how the players respond to the coaches to you take Brian hotline. Here's a guy that has law respect the players guys have been there. Playing in the league. And you could tell the players really respect him. And Brian is not going to be a guy. Probably just going to make me suggestions on place to run because he's still new at the college game is a coach. But he's a guy that can serve a major role of getting what the players when they come off the field and things like that. So ride days violating all that. And when you can't do that when you're just strictly an office coordinator, because you're you know, you're playing why Nick series and things like that. So he's got to get a lot done. Now. You wonder what he said to Garrett Wilson after that? Touchdown grab. He coaching going on there. More of them. I was just going to say, yeah. Keep doing that. Because that was never I'll tell you. I said whoever whatever team came in second on him recruiting lies. He said, ma'am. Glad you bitches your you didn't go to wherever. Yeah. That from a like play standpoint that might have been like for me, the most eye-popping play of what we saw that showed athleticism coverage wasn't that wasn't bad. It was seven banks was on the coverage. Who's the guy you're probably going to see in the fall? He's not I rang but nickle package and stuff you're going to see him. So it was a legitimate good player that had good coverage. And he just went up and made a where you can start establishing that trust between fields and gear Wilson where you know as a quarterback if I'm putting the ball there. I know my guys going to go up over everybody and get that. And it's it's not impossible to do it a place like the what he has athlete center or inside there big old dome. But to do outside at the horseshoe on a Saturday afternoon. The as close to replicating alive fire game situation as you can was today and play like that really helps you moving forward. You mentioned live fire game Steve on Twitter as a question about that which we will get to we got to go against a go to a break. We do have a phone lines open. If you would like to call maybe you're getting back to the car after watching the spring.
