"The Dodgers. Logan Web struck out a career high 10 and just dominated that really good Milwaukee team. Seven strong innings helped the Giants get the win in that game. This will be his seventh career start against the Rockies and his fourth start against Colorado. This season, although the first three were all early in the year, Logan I say all most of them were early in the year. The the first two were and the numbers weren't great. I think the actual pitching was better than the numbers would indicate. From early in the season. Last time he faced Colorado was in mid August, and he pitched six shutout innings only allowed three hits so more indicative of the picture the Logan Web has become. Although that start was in San Francisco. It's always a little different. You pitch at Coors Field. We'll see how he does tonight against Colorado. Meanwhile, Iraqis who are 63 75 overall, although I think it's always important to emphasize. Don't let that overall record fool you. The Rockies at home are 45 25, so they're 20 games over 500 at home. Even though they're 12 games under 500 Overall, Rockies begin the night 25 games behind the Giants in the National League West. Writebol. Tapio will lead off and start in left field for Colorado. Brendan Rodgers, their shortstop. Hitting second. Charlie Blackmon is the right fielder. He bats third C. J. Cron back in the starting lineup. First baseman cleanup hitter Ryan McMahon at third base. McMahon hits fifth Garrett Hampson, second baseman at six place hitter Sam Hilliard starts in center field, He bats seventh. The catcher is the Northern California native Dom Nunez hitting eighth and the starting pitcher for Colorado. Is the right hander. Cheeky Gonzalez Gonzalez does not have great overall numbers this year. 36613 again Almost strangely. Now, the Rockies have developed this pitching staff. Where they have a bunch of pitchers who seem to be comfortable and perform well at home. Gonzalez has pitched twice against the Giants this year. 10 total innings, only four earned runs allowed, so he's done a reasonably good job against the Giants this season. Not a lot of strikeouts. The ball is usually put in play against Gonzalez. We'll see. His third start this season head to head against the Giants Web Gonzalez. That's the pitching matchup for tonight's Ballgame. Defensive alignment for the Rockies, sponsored by PG and E customers in need can get help with reducing energy bills at PG dot com slash care as the Rockies take the field in the outfield Tapia and left Hilliard in center, Blackman and right on the infield. McMahon, who's having a spectacular defensive year, he's at third Rogers at short. Hampson at second base Crone at first Tom Nunez. Is the catcher by the numbers, the the defensive runs saved, at least according to sports info Solutions. The Rockies are the number one team defense in all of baseball. So the Rockies have done a good job defensively this season. Always important when he played course field. Maybe that's part of the key to their success there. Alright, here we go. Ready to start. Tommy lost Ella in the batter's box against Gonzales, who pitches and a first pitch. Fastball is in for a called Strike one. So we are underway. "Immediately spun foul. Bud Black, I think wants to take a look and we're going to have this play. Under review. The law offices of Dan Capitalists ruling on the field is a fair ball. So third base umpire Bruce Dreckman in the crew chief Joe West will get on the headsets. Oh, boy, that is If it caught the stripe. It caught the very outside of the strike. It might have caught a blade that had, uh, white paint on it. Yeah. In live action looked like it landed right on the stripe. The replay Had a little different thought at the moment, Lost Ellis come back to home plate. Yeah, and it looks like there's a little bit of green between the ball in the strike. Yeah, I think Ryan McMahon thinks like it will be overturned. He's going to walk over to presumably play. A shift for Stella could be for belt as well. But normally, Mac is over there with two strikes. I mean, it's as close as it could be. And They're going to say. It landed. Fair call stands.

"Pitch, fouled off to the right high fastball. Estrada, who homered his last time up fifth home run of the year for Tiro with Giants has been a real nice pickup versatile defensively, giving the Giants a lot of good at bats. 64 to 1 Giants lead Longoria at first one out, pal Freemen to the plate. Had a ball hit down the right field line foul. That was a curveball and Estrada way he took that swing almost made it look like he was looking for that pitch. I want to Freeland looks over to first and a left hander. Now kicks the leg and throws Australia takes in the dirt. It kicks away from Diaz, but he kept it around home plate close enough to where Longoria holds over at first base. Mm. Search dance. 12 fastball home a little bit high a little bit in. It's been a pretty tight strike zone from Bruce Dreckman. That could have been called a strike. Freeland thought it should have been. He was staring, endured the umpire. So now it's two and two Tiro Estrada shadow lines starting to get close to the home plate area. I'm not sure whether that will have Huge impact or not to to Estrada Pops this one foul off to the right taste. The first baseman came over, but that's over the net over the dugout out of play. Still to and to run it up. That pitch count Tiro strategy is this will be the 88th pitch of the game for free land. It's only the fifth inning. He's ready. He throws Estrada hits another high drive down the left field line. This one is on its way, and it is gone. Tiro Strada second straight it bad with a home run this time a two run shot and it's 6 to 1 giants. The only question was, Was it going to stay fair? And it did. I understand Mr to drive on a multi home run game for Tiro Estrada solo shot in the fourth, now a two run shot here in the fifth. And it was a curve ball, and that's the pitch. I think I mentioned it just a minute ago. I think he was looking for that one straight down the line. 405 ft 6 to 1 Giants. Outside Freeland. Mrs.

Lisa is always to be joined by the cowboy Jeff Brantley. Cowboy. You look at this pitching matchup today. Tyler Malley has been awfully good for the Reds. Johnny Cueto has still been very solid at this advanced age of his career for San Francisco figures to be a pretty good, bad matchup, but the red seem to find a way to get the bats going and hopefully early in support of Tyler Malli. Yeah, I think that in order to Really put Johnny Cueto, the bed You've got to be able to battle from from pitch to pitch. There's got to be a game plan not to try to lift and separate but to continue to keep pressure on Cueto. That's the only way you run him out of the ballgame. For his Tyler Malli. I don't know that anybody on this staff that is throwing the ball better than what he has. I thought his last couple of innings in Colorado About his big of a gut check. Aziz. You could ask for the Reds needed that win. Things were not going well, and he still was able to put seven innings of to run ball on the board and for a guy that Was taken out of the rotation last year. He has come leaps and bounds and come with a vengeance. But I'll say this, Tommy, this Red's club right now is going through. Probably it's Toughest spot so far as far as Challenge roster challenge of their mantra of the next man up because they've got injuries. The Votto moussaka, since l other guys have got to step up and they've got to step up in a big way. Stop this losing streak. Today is the day to do it. "Recorded here in the studio. Was this video here and I just. I don't get it to turn US up. Oh you know they're Michelangelo's German thing. It's all German. You get the gist of it. So he searches for different image clicks on an image hairstyle weights as Michelangelo Email and David and that's it and he goes searches all the all the stuff to become the new David the model and and then there's one with Cleopatra. I think there's another one with one of the artists. I don't know famous artists from back in the day. You know anything. That's fair game speaking a fair game when you go get your your Christmas candy or your. The Christmas candy is totally different totally different. But you know everyone's saying on facebook that did I lose every single one. I think I just lost every single one of them. Sure did hence Dan coming over to fix this computer. I'M GONNA turn down because it's going to do something here. So authorities have worn of drug laced candy for this Halloween. But some say the threat is over hyped. Well I believe it's over hyped. Wisconsin authorities are warning residents lookout suffer meth candy this Halloween. There's something new that we haven't seen before but the influx of methamphetamine so our community has grown tremendously of past couple of years. Sheriff Rope Nate. Dreckman of the Grant County Wisconsin wrote on a facebook post. The other day you know with howling being today actually today but he wrote this out yesterday is a perfect timing for this. I Recently came across some items that were very concerning to all law enforcement in the South West Meth candy is what they are calling it. It's something new that we haven't seen before an influx influx Vietnamese I just read that. DRECKMAN is worn that not only meth Kenny but treats laced with other drugs such as teach really. THC Ingredients people are asking to report port any candy. That seems suspicious. Tena Candy sounds like an urban legend story that was told us both children and parents to frighten US but some folks on twitter don't believe leave. People are putting drugs in the Halloween candy for one simple reason and he'll drugs cost too much which is true. Nobody's willing to going willing willing willing to waste their drugs and putting in kids candy. Because why why would you. It's stupid so am but most of all you want to check have to make sure that your kids candy. That's that's going to lock me up that your kids. Candy's okay and safe. You Always WanNa make sure that it's Raza and then there's a there's a family only in New Jersey actually did fine and I think this is an accident did find a small little baggie of heroin and their kids Candy Candy when they when they did it but listen to this. Here's hear me out here on this one. So are you familiar with the the practice of instead of trick or treat its trunk or treat where I I guess. I don't know where it started again. I can imagine that it would be more of A. Let's say like a I see more as a people believing in an apartment complex. I see because you can't go up and down the stairs knocking on everyone's door so everyone kind of you know everyone's got the cars ars either backed in if you're the getaway driver or pulled in forward and everyone would open the trunks and kind of sit on the back of their trunks. SUV's or whatever and handout can. It's it's a great idea. I like the idea. It's Kinda ghetto but I mean for those neighborhoods that are just like apartment building apartment buildings at their apartment buildings. The trunk conquer treat thing what happened now back to the family in New Jersey. That actually found what they're calling a heroin type substance think of You know in in the back of these neighborhoods you open your trunk up and who knows you know you your whatever your boyfriend girlfriend husband wife kids neighbors kids whatever. Whoever had the car always see the story when the cuts pulled a guy over? Hey Is this your heroin. That's not mine. I'm just borrowing this car. Same thing when they're handing out Candian Indian stuff physically. Hold the stuff in a container. How they they keep until they're passing it out to the kids but who's to say that let's say for example we're case scenario the candy tips over inside the van somewhere? I'm GonNa say van because vans everyone can picture what a minivan looks like and mom mm or the data. The parents yelling at the child. Throw everything back into the container so we can go and hand out candy for the trunk or treat are you guys aren't getting any candy you know it's always a threat you're not getting any candy. It's a threat so the kids are all the candy and everything in there doesn't realize you know I was doing heroin heroin the other day our cousin bobby was in there doing heroin van left a little Baggie so the kids scrounging around bag abuse probably on the floor and he threw candy been when the candy tipped over and then. Here's you know. Mom and pop doing the best they can and handing out candidate kids and sure enough. The the little baggy gets mixed in with something sometimes. Can't bags and Kanye. You're Kinda sticky anyways if you get a rogue one in there it opens up you have the you know you grab a couple of Kinda sticking together together. 'cause someone left him in the car to go bobby going to bring those in the other night and so you're throwing candy and the and the kids bags and sure enough. The parents go home. The kid dumps it out. Oh my God look on the stuff and boom. There's the bag that uncle Bob or cousin bobby was out there. I could see that happening. I could see that. But as far as someone literally sitting there like taken all the candy and melting down the CBD oil tea the lace with THC and dropping all that stuff and and injecting. The Jelly filled gummy worms. Or all that all the what else can I get birds ropes. I know they've got a jolt on them or Swedish Fish Candy itself but I mean and injecting everything. No No. No one's do no one's taken the time no one's taken the time or the effort to inject an disperse lace filled candy navy trees. No one has time for that now. There might be a guy who might do. Well then we're right back in the same boat now aren't we one guy who does WanNa lace you know a snickers bar with are sick or something and see if that kid pops up on the news. That's kind of sick evil but there's evil people out there do this stuff. The lady standing in front of me had no idea that I was looking at the the dressings. The salad dressings. You sit right in front of. She's able she's probably the one doing it. And what what are the you know. Everyone goes through the top ten candy bars atop things and all that stuff. I've always been a people say racist. People say Baby Ruth which Clark Bar is going out the door somewhere. Oh Henry's but one thing that's floating around facebook and I'm not switching screens anymore because Shit's going to get locked up here so I apologize on the video right now. I'm not switching screens because everything's GonNa it's at its tipping point so but people are going around on facebook saying no US fine until someone pointed out the chocolate waves on a snickers bars look like veins and the penis. And I'm like a really really. We need that. Do we need that image. We need that image that the veins or the show. I thought it was I. I Love Them. They were there hill. Thought that was more chocolate chocolate on top. You know if you had a bar that was nice and smooth you were going to same chocolate all the way around. But when you had the veins what they call the Pena's veins on top of or the snickers bar then you've got more chocolate that little and that's just me. I wanted a little bit more chocolate on my on. My snickers bar that could go. It could be up weird thing. Where can I get a little bit more chocolate on my snickers bar and q the Porno music when we come? I'm back I'm GonNa talk about an age is. They're back to Halloween. Because it's a whole lean show an age that you think kids are older too young to get into and I know it's been beaten down before I just want to touch on briefly because someone brought up a point to me and it kind of made it clear to me as far as why. This is happening. Labra here appropriate. I'll.

"Yes here on the bus approaching wistful vista way. Find McGee and Molly. Any sandwiches left, Molly? Let me see. Yes. Deary just one lucky. We're almost home just about making just one you say you want to begin. You. No, no. You know, you stop this. Why don't you have it? Aren't you hungry? Well, I can wait. Well. Kind of sandwiches at Molly. I'll take a look. Tam o' ham. With mustard. Let's see. Yes with mustard. You don't like him with mustard. Molly. Whatever gave you that idea. That's the only way I do like a ham sandwich. Oh shucks, go ahead and eat it unless it's too stale by now. Hey, have you lead a stale sandwich? Personally, I don't mind stale bread. I do too. You do. Let's say that ain't so stale. I know I had it wrapped up pretty well in wax paper, there's nothing like wax to preserve things as there. That's what I hear. And from very reliable source to base it. Oh, heavenly days McGee, let's quit stone and year. Eat the sandwich. Gonna you'll eat it but quit waving at me. Don't shut my hand away like that. Oh count. Now. Drop it on the phone. I'll get McGee. Leave it late. It's all jerky by now. On the. Well, at least we don't have to argue about that anymore. Now, I guess we don't here. Let me wipe that mustard off your chin. Part of it, must've, flew up and hit me in the face. Yuck. We're getting close to town McGee. Can you tell we're sites being more cars? Hasn't changed much since we've been away, we're going to be gone week foolish. Oh, yeah. Well, it's been a wonderful experience, working with all the Cecil b demille. Did you hear last month? Vice about Dreckman. No, I didn't. Why should he asked your advice above, but he did? He says look here. Sunny, don't you think this would be a better play? If you just turned one page of the script of the time. My says why? Yes, that's lie. Says, I believe it, what he said, and he says, okay, put that taffy apple away after rehearsal, your pages getting all stuck together. Remind now never mind. I think we're getting close to home divvy. It's time to put the dark glasses on and get out. Pence. Oh, yes. Now, I know how genuine actor. Hungry..

"That's a separate kind of competition, the pitchers involved in a homerun derby, but yeah. And Bumgarner is just so big, and so strong. It'd be fun to watch all the time. Yeah. And we got this great tweet when I sent out the question about the derby this morning. Excuse me. I've mispronounce his name show. Sh others Kleinman tweeted at us and said he nominates the Orioles pitching staff to be on the other side of this. What do you think for the homerun derby? That that was. All right. I'm sure you, did you watch some of the yes, you're is you watch some of the outfielders for the Orioles after a ball when over the center field wall. They just would collapse against the wall as if to suggest, you know, uncle can we just stop the madness here? This is depressing. Yeah. It's depressing. And we only have four more months ago on maybe three years after that, as long as we're going negative. Let's talk about the nationals day Martinez. Yesterday's the nationals bullpen blew another game. This is what happened give a listen after how Kendrick argued about a check swing. He was elected from the game. The day Martinez came out of the nationals dugout. And there goes the skipper. Get your money's worth now Davey. There goes tap after kicks dirt on home plate. And he pursues, Bruce Dreckman. Just ask for help. It's always asking is ask for some help down there. Gucci Palumbo coming down the line. A lot of frustration right there in the NAT skip reconsidered understandably. Yeah. So that was Bob carpenter. Santangelo describing day Martinez. He covered up home plate. Kick dirt on own played. He threw his hat the whole thing. Curl. I was watching this live. And I thought he came out of the dugout with the way, the nationals are going, you know they get swept by the Mets and a four game series. I thought for sure he was going to get a jetted. It was going to be like, you know what? I'm just going to let them have it. And Dave Martinez is you. And I know is probably the most positive person you ever want to meet in your life. But even for him at this point, it's got to be like, are you kidding me? And there's all this conversation about whether or not, he's going to get fired Thomas Boswell, the columnist for the Washington Post wrote the other day that, you know what he's a terrific person. But he really shouldn't be a manager in, in Tom's opinion. I don't know what that would solve. I get it. I get it. It's kind like with Mickey Callaway yours. Yeah. Let's do managers bringing creek Kimber with them in a variety of other bullpen arms, not a manager issue. I mean they historically loss games here with the bullpen construction that they have and to his credit to his dying credit. He continues to say I think we have the people here. We just gotta find the right ones. But yeah, it, it clearly is, is apparent that he's not going to be one of the right ones to make those decisions. And to me, the question, then becomes, you know, whether it's just him that goes, or is the ownership group willing to knowledge that as, as Mike Rizzo has built this team into the power that they are. They've, they've not been able to take that next step. And here's another season in which I think today, you can say feels like they ain't gonna take that next step again. And you know, that's really to me where this conversation goes, because I think everybody acknowledges, this is not a managerial alone issue. No. And you. Reference, the bullpen Paulin bikinis Ford this number from the last sports bureau. The nationals ERA for the rotation to this point is three point eight nine..

"And analysis from NPR and WNYC. All this hour. We've been talking about the new congress. We ask you for your expectations by name is John Farage from Orleans, Pennsylvania. I don't see the opportunity much progress. My name Laura, and I am from forest grove, Oregon. I fully expect the new congress to be completely ineffective listens. Not a lot of hope out there. And that's not a surprise public opinion of Congress's pretty dismal. According to Gallup's most recent data just eighteen percent approve of the job. Congress is doing the house of representatives has a reputation for being a bit rowdy. There are four hundred thirty five members after all that's more than four times the number in the Senate. But did you ever wonder where that number came from? It's four thirty five because in the nineteen tens of the nineteen twenties. Congress couldn't agree at add more members. And then they decided well, maybe we have enough. So it's been that way for over a century. Now, that's Lee Druckman. He's a senior fellow in the political reform program at new America. And he has an idea for fixing the dysfunction in the house. Make it bigger might really congress would be a much more Representative institution. If there were more members at four hundred thirty five it's hard for congress to be really a Representative sample of the country, which it was intended to. Be congress are though more diverse now than it was before the twenty eighteen election is still predominantly an institution of older whiter men. And it doesn't really reflect the country have a bigger congress. It's more Representative of the country. I think ultimately it would create more space for new coalitions to form something a little bit more like a multi-party system in which you build coalitions on issue by issue basis leadership wouldn't be able to be so top down. You'd have a more vibrant committee system more vibrant subcommittee system, which arguably is is how congress has worked best. If if you want to look at when congress was most productive from about the nineteen sixties to the to the eighties was when there was a real thriving committee system subcommittee system. And I think that's exactly what you would wind up having with a much larger house. Yeah. I mean to me that is the most exciting part of it. Right. The theory that we can really create different kinds of coalitions that today or not. Possible in a house that has many more people and the interests are going to be much more localized tell me how big us think the house should be how many members do you think would be a good place to start? Then that would mean how many people in a congressional district would be represented by a member. So I'm going to go back to what it was. One thousand nine hundred twelve when we got four thirty five it was about two hundred thousand to one and that would take us to sixteen hundred members in the US house, which is a pretty serious increase. Although it still puts us on the high side in terms of international comparisons on the number of constituents per Representative in the UK. It's a hundred thousand to one in Germany. It's it's pretty similar the only other comparable democracy that would be over that is Japan at two hundred and seventy thousand or so to one so it's still possess on the high side. So Lee someone who I pride myself on knowing all of the congressional districts in the country, and who represents those districts, I can barely keep up with the new members of congress elected every two years how on earth could having maybe sixteen hundred members not turn into total utter chaos. Well, it would be a little bit more chaotic that's for sure. But maybe cast is a good thing. If it creates fluidity and responsiveness, sure members might not get to know each other. But they don't really get to know each other now already Congress's kind of a big chaotic institution, particularly the house. I think what you'd see if you had a much larger house is UT this decentralisation of power in the house, which I think would loosen some of this binary, hyper partisanship and would create some space for new coalitions that cut across the way that the parties are split right now. And then we, of course, get into the important question of how that house then works with the much smaller United States Senate, especially a Senate that could be controlled by one party. Right. And so you could get a whole bunch of bills making it through the house when the with these divers interesting new coalitions, and then they get to the Senate and just hit a total roadblock. How could this process actually push legislation beyond just the house while the Senate was designed to be the place where the passions of the people were cooled and the Senate is the place where legislation goes to die. So I have a proposal an idea that's been in my mind, but I'm going to put it out there and see what people think is is a reverse filibuster in which the Senate has to vote on any Bill that get sixty percent of sport in the house and vote up or down. But it, but it has. Vote on it. That would keep the Senate from being an entire. I think there'd be a lot of pressure on the Senate to bring up bills that are popular in the house. The other big divide. We have in this country, as you very well know is geographic right that there is a rural urban divide that has gotten even more significant and tell me how increasing the size of the house would impact that it seems to me that it would make that rural urban divide even worse with rural legislators feeling like oh my gosh. We're losing all of our influence, obviously, the areas of growth in this country aren't coming in places like Nebraska or Kansas or North Dakota. Well, certainly, you would have more presentative who would represent the broader spectrum of the country. But I mean, the reality is that that rural America is less than twenty percent of the population now is classified as rural and the the congress should reflect the broader population of the country and right now because of the way districts are drawn rural America has a disproportionate influence in the US house. So I think the house should represent the diversity of the country fairly not in a distorted way, which it does now. And do you see this as sort of an all or nothing thing? Like, forget about just increasing it by ten or fifteen seats or twenty seats. You gotta you gotta go for sixteen hundred or a thousand or not really try at all. I mean, I'm a believer in doing it in a really big way. Some people have proposed to go back to what the framers would have intended. If we got to. This big of a country, which would be about six thousand that was actually this is the funding this fun. Bit of history is that the original first amendment was going to be an apportionment amendment that Madison's initially proposed twelve amendments of which only amendments three three twelve became the Bill of rights, but amendment number one was that you were going to fix the number of constituents to representatives at thirty thousand to one up to one hundred members forty thousand to one to two hundred members and then after that fifty thousand to one and that was as high as as he could conceive of going now past the congress. It was always just one state short of getting the the requisite three quarters of states to to approve it Lee Dreckman. Thank you so much for joining us. Hey, it's my pleasure lead Trotman is a senior fellow in the political reform program at new America. Here's my take more members.
