Fangio's patience with Lock pays off in big win for Broncos
"Heavy victory monday broncos country. It's always happy when it's victory monday. The broncos taking care of business against the miami dolphins yesterday was just what the doctor ordered. Twenty two thirteen was called a complete team win by so many people starting with vic fangio and then working through the organization all of the players calling a team win. We'll hear from vic fangio here coming up whilst from a happy and relieved drew lock but the broncos dominate on defense six sacks the interception for justin simmons late in the game to seal the win ryan fitzpatrick in and relief at two of who had been knocked out and it was a bunch of people getting in on the act in terms of taxes. John williams with me read. It was bradley job. It was draymond jones. It was demarcus walker. They were all they were all in the mix so it was good to see a complete team effort yesterday. Special teams really. Good they neutralized yukimi grant the stud returner for miami and it kind of relations. You what you thought this team could be. I guess maybe reminds. Isn't the right word but indicate shows you what this team can be when everything comes together. I know that can be a big. If but coming off the effort against the raiders to come back home a team that six and three that had won five in a row to buy low playing great as a rookie and to completely baffle him. Stifle their offense. Just thirteen points are lone touchdown coming early on a really nice catch by devante parker but just a great great effort. And you're on the ground for one hundred eighty nine yards you. Get eighty four for melvin gordon. Plus two scores. Yes the fumbles. Concerning phillip lindsay make plays eighty two yards on sixteen carries. Actually were tied both at fifteen carries for eighty four yards until lindsey was dropped for a two yard loss late in the game and and that ended up being the the difference after the interception

"A news radio state of sports with Mike Rice. I know the chiefs are on the docket next, but looking back over the new England went in some of the things that the Broncos can clean up. Guy's head coach Vic Fangio said yesterday. He thought Drew lock played pretty well. The defense played really well. How about what shall be, Harris continues to do up front. He batted down two more passes on Sunday, coach Fangio said. Harris has an incredible ability to do that is really good at you know, he's probably probably the best I've been around on dirt regarded I think that thing would shall be, too is he's playing a lot better, too. This year is overall game is better When your overall game is better. You're going to get more opportunities to bats and balls. Yesterday's batted ball that we got the interception on with day, Shawn. You know, I was a great rush. Five times about balls or guys that are stuck on the line, but he had a great rush going really affected that play. I think he's come back to camp in the best shape that he's been in a long, long time. His weight is down, and it's really been reflected in this play. "With touchdowns. The easy answer is we just weren't able to convert on third down, but Your 1st and 2nd down place, play a lot into your third down place and we need to be better at 32 3. We haven't been good at that all year really Looks like the Broncos will get even healthier this week. Defensive lineman Draymond Jones and DeMarcus Walker should be back at practice. They could play Sunday against Casey. There's a chance No, a fan, A J boy, KJ Handler could practice this week as well. Broncos Chiefs coverage starts Sunday morning at eight on K Away kickoff to 25. "A lot of talk about, you know. Did the Broncos get the Short end of the stick and, you know, draw the short straw because their tests have been clean and they've been able to abide by protocols and not have any positive tests. And yet the Patriots have the positive test and they get their bye week shuffled around and they're going to get Cam Newton. Presumably back for the game against the Broncos, and the Broncos have to give up their bye week in week eight for one that was unscheduled last week, and they practice through it in all this. And I do think there is by the way, and let's just go there for a moment. And if you wanna weigh in 303713 85 85, I do think there is something to all that, you know. I understand, And I think all of us understand that in this season in this time with Cove, it still a factor for all of us. In life to one degree or another to some very serious factor for them and their families or for others. Just Because it affects our lives and how we're trying to go about raising families working in supporting our our families, ourselves and all the rest. So we know its a factor. We know it's out there and yet I I can understand if you were in the world of the NFL as an NFL player, and a lot of people took issue to this, or at least some did on Social media. Like, you know, just you guys get a good paycheck. Just play just roll with it. Just deal with it, and I really do see both sides of it. I I understand that That there is the element of Having to just deal with life. We all have to deal with the curve balls that cove it is throwing our way. Sometimes the curves are more frequent and More severe and other times. It's like all right, well would just sort of rolling along here and making do But But I also understand if you're an NFL player, I mean that is your world. And so it does matter at some level and quite honestly within the world of the NFL, trying to be fair and equitable and all the rest while also trying to get a season in and knowing that nothing is going to be perfect. You know, the Broncos did get the short end of the stick. It's not a It's on a defender, but they did. They've been doing it right now. I completely agree with the perspective that Vic Fangio has Put forth and put forth on Sunday when the decision was made, he said, a couple things he said, Number one. We know That it could have been us. And, yes, the Broncos could end up with a positive test. Even if guys are doing what it takes viruses going a virus. It just works that way. And sometimes, even when you mean sometimes we all get sick. Even though we're going about our lives, we were even pre Covad days. Right. You pick up a cold, you pick up a stomach bug. Whatever it just happens. So He is completely right in that it could be the Broncos. And number two I love would, Vic said when he said it really shows through them. Owners and groaners are when something like this happens, and he said, I'm going to do everything I can. To make sure that Denver Broncos aren't in that camp and I really respect that. I do. I also understand why in the immediate aftermath I'II Sunday. There were quite a few tweets from players that were like, What's the deal of this? I mean, why are we doing it right and we get penalized for it so We haven't seen as much of that over the last day or so. Publically on social media, and I wonder if it's because Victor sent the message. All right, guys, let's let's just deal with this. Let's you know, let's look at the bright side. Philip Lindsay is going to be healthier than he would have been this past Sunday. Drew lock may actually start against the Patriots. Oh, man, I hope so. Yeah, that would not have happened. Maybe know a fan comes back. Maybe. Yeah, maybe. Yeah, but questions as B k and he'll document all the guys. I mean, Draymond Jones and DeMarcus Walker and all these guys who have been hurt and banged up You know, they're a little bit closer to being healthier now. I wouldn't want to lose the week eight by for a week five by nobody would really want that if you're an NFL player. But That's just the situation they're in. And as the for the Broncos being a young team who struggled so far this year. I mean, this could be a blessing in disguise, even though you want that bye week, and that's a crucial part of the NFL season. I think an extra week of practice can't hurt And then you get the rest of these guys that are banged up. I mean, I think it could work in their favour. It might. It might work in there, especially when it comes to drew lock. If drew lock plays and is healthy enough to play. Then that would be huge because you always want to have drew lock start as many games as you can 303713 85 85 on the text line. 56690, however, you are listening to us. "What what did you think about that at sixty three and really enjoyed the hell pick. I think that kinda helped salvage night a little bit. That's the one big thing that separates it from last year. Is we didn't have just trade up for a player that we weren't particularly high on. But you get a follow up immediately with player that you are higher than where he went so on Thornhill versatile safety, great, cover steals her safety like van coverage spills because he played corner Virginia before all production all over the place. He's gonna thick great with tire, Matthew. He's kind of similar bowl that he can play everywhere. Like, matthew. He's probably better in my opinion is deep safety. And I'm not one hundred percent. Sure. The chiefs dope buyer Jones him at give him a chance to play corner. At some point in time on the outside is why not if he fails? He just goes back to. Safety. Yeah. Why not? I mean in you, get good value. If that's the case of I think, I thought it was a great pick as well. Obviously not keen Kaelin saw even go there right now. This is a Freudian slip. It was like it was like a slip. I knew talking to you. I had to like accidentally say keep Butler's name. But I didn't I came close. But then I said, I'm sorry I wounds still fresh. Okay, kaelin. Sounders eighty four off the board eighty fourth in the Casey draft guide. Another guy we got to see at the senior bowl and probably one of the most one prospects. We watched it the senior bowl. In. This is an interesting draft because interior defense at one class was great like there's players all over the first round that just have all the super high upside. But then once you got to the second round, I know some people were big Draymond Jones fans. I wasn't huge on him our guy trista hill. But once you got past those two guys there wasn't really a pass rushing interior defense of one besides Saunders. Like, he was the next guy in less. You're moving edge player like Zack Allen or Charles menu inside. So you sit there pick eighty four you see Saunders come up like the additional off. This is great. This is a perfect pick for the chiefs. 'cause we think that there needs to be some more into your pass rush for the chiefs Christiane displaying seventy percent of the snaps at most. He needs a little break Saunders can fill imperfectly there early on if he doesn't develop into more than that. And he just he destroyed the senior bowl he has one of the top notch Motors. It's just something you have to say. Was there anything that surprised you in the second first second or third round anybody that's still on the board? You kinda surprised by like that? So it's dumbfounded me the decay Metcalf last as long as he did like I could get while Calvin Harmon or key Butler going on day three disagree with it. And I thank the NFL's making a mistake. But I understand the concept that the NFL is a little weary over big body wide receivers that wanted to catch point rather than trading great separation, but TK Metcalf is that he's not as a super unethically player. He's got an athletic profile that teams should covet given his floor is pretty much a great deep threat and huge size. So seeing him drop that was pretty wild. And then I think just just the way the offense tackles went off the board. I think it was a little weird getting somebody to come up for Caleb mcgarry in the first round yesterday. And it just some of the way they went through this entire thing. Greg little coming off the board to get a Sioux Falls pick coming out some weed off. It's tackle. Shakes. But that happens every year is just you try to prepare for them when you're watching offense and tackles that was some of them still caught me off guard. That's many laying find on Twitter at chief in Carolina. We'll talk to you after the day. Three men. Sounds like a plan guys. It's time to close out our day to recap of the NFL draft. Chiefs have taken three players. They used pick one sixty seven to go move up from EKO hardman. So the chiefs don't pick until the two hundreds Craig I think you said Brett Vichai says don't even worry about watching the fourth round be sleeping goes..

"Krisztal live at you see how training center Denver Broncos headquarters the Broncos with three new players in the fold after a busy day to in which they selected Dalton reisner the offense of lineman out of Kansas state and Wiggins high school right here in the Denver area. Forty first overall, then they traded up from fifty two to forty two God, drew lock the quarterback from Missouri. And in the third round at seventy first overall defensive lineman, Draymond Jones and interior pass rushing specialist whom head coach Vic Fangio said could see some time in the nickel this season if he's competitive, and if he earns that time guys as we look at the pick now of Dalton reisner, and we heard from drew lock we'll hear from John Elway Vic Fangio shortly. But Ryan interior offenses. The line was clearly need the Broncos had to come away with a starter out of the NFL draft with the pick of reisner. Did they -ccomplish that? They did. Yeah. They definitely did at at least right guard, and they did provide themselves and we haven't covered a ton yet. But they did provide themselves. Bit of a hedge it tackle or more specifically. Right. Tackle of John James isn't everything's crap. Dick cracked up to be. But now you're paying him to be that. So hopefully, he is otherwise that's leads us down another rabbit hole. But you've got your right guard at there is an injury potentially to one of the tackle 's you've got another guy that you could swing outside. And again, you know, maybe maybe you decide as we discussed right after the pick maybe decide to see what he can do at center. He's does that experience in combat govern was by. No means an elite center for the Broncos last year filling in. So it does provide that as well. I think they're still opportune. Unity to add either another offense lineman during the draft or you add somebody during college free agency. Don't forget Sam Jones is still here. Connor McConnell McGovern is pencilled in to the starting lineup. But but by no means for me, this move does not guarantee him a spot on that lot. Not at all. And I would watch Sam Jones in particular because they're very high on him going into his second year. Really the thought would Sam Jones when they picked him last year he came out with one year eligibility remaining he'd graduated, but he he came out because Arezzo state was going through a coaching change scheme change and felt it was time to move on. The Broncos new Sam Jones was probably going to effectively have a regular ear as a rookie and be potentially ready contribute in year two while here we are. And don't forget Ron Leary. You've got in Pennsylvania guard spot. But can you rely on him? Right. The last two seasons for him have earned on injured. Reserve the the injuries Vicky. Related. It would not all surprise me. Guys. If your interior ofensive line some point this year is comprised of Sam Jones, don't rise ner and Connor McGovern. All guys that the Broncos have added in recent drafts also part of that. Because there's just not a lot of faith in Roane Leary to stay healthy to stay on the football field because they still own some money. And that's one of the biggest reasons he's here. You know, there's the injury guarantee. But because he's here if he is healthy two years ago. There's a reason they did give him thirty two million dollars and twenty guaranteed because he played really well in Dallas. Now, he did have three all pros around him. So there's that and I pointed out when they brought him in. Then he was really good when he was healthy that just didn't last very long, and so can you get healthy again? Or at some point do they just have him. There's an insurance policy and grow some combination of those three young guys together and Elijah Wilkinson is maybe you're. Winging tear guy, and you have to probably figure out who your swing tackle is down the road unless I'm missing somebody. That isn't coming to mind right now Wilkinson has position flexibile swing. He'd be. He could essentially in at four spots. Yeah. Even calmer govern in a paint can be tackle you actually a lot of game. Right. You have a lot of guys in there that have a lot of flexibility and can move around into pinch. What was cool. I thought is engulfed riser was pretty open with about everybody. He talked with in the pre draft process. Sometimes even other teams sometimes you'll fall to fall exactly about how he really wanted to be with his hometown team the Broncos. And I thought it was cool. The John Elway shared that. They really liked him and more importantly might munch liked him as a player, and then you throw on top of it. The hometown angle on top of it. There was a mutual attraction. If you will that between the two sides. I really feel like we can't overstate the Mike munch factor. Yeah. Here in this. Steal. Now. I it's a good story as it is. We know adult reisner looks like playing offense of line of K state. But but in that Mike mum check is getting just his first opportunity to mold this offense of line in the way, he wants we all I think media fans cetera all latched onto the Dalton reisner story. And if you watch him play, you feel good about what he could bring to the Broncos as a prospect that the fact that Mike munch a hall of Famer came in here and said, no, no, I this is a guy that I absolutely could work with he's going to help out our offense of line. And you don't spend a second round pick on a guy to be a swing or to be a backup. So this is part of Mike munch putting his fingerprints on the offensive line, which is only gonna lead to and don't forget we talked with don't reisner after he met with the Broncos on orange and blue seven sixty and reisner was glowing. As he talked about. Mike monk shack and Chris Cooper, of course, the foreign Bronco guard. Now, the assistant align coach, and he he said he felt like there was a real connection there. And I thought to myself. Okay. We'll see if Mike monk check in. Chris Cooper felt the same way we learned tonight. They did feel the same way. Exactly. They sure did. And earlier tonight, we had a chance to talk to the product out of Wiggins, Colorado. So let's get to our VIP line. And welcome in one of the newest Denver Broncos offense of Lyman Dalton reisner coming home to play football right here in the greater Denver area. You got the whole orange and blue seven sixty crew Mike, Brandon Andrew and Ryan Dalton congratulations. How gratifying was it to hear your name called by the Broncos? Very gratifying. I just want to prove to them. You know, how much I'm worth and and prove them right for picking me up, and I'm just so thankful for the opportunity for them taking me at pick forty one. And it was awesome to hear my name. Let alone, you know, be called Denver Broncos for special Dalton we've talked to a few times now throughout this process. You've made it pretty clear to the point of. I I liked your point. You're talking to the media to moment ago. How you felt you actually had a tone it down a little bit at your visiting other teams. What is your explain that to me because you're in the process of meeting the other teams, you're talking about how much you love this area being from Wiggins, Colorado, I at some level you still had to be kind of true to yourself though. Right. Most definitely, and you know, I couldn't really be open to the media about my feelings. But of course, the whole time, especially after me with much Elway everyone at that facility. I felt like that was where home was and you know, I didn't know if I'd I'd get picked in the first second third fourth fifth sixth seventh where it was going to be at. But I knew that that was where home should be. That's why I wanted to go. And it's I think it's definitely got in the working that I'm coming home to Denver. What did you feel in terms of the connection that you had with Mike monk check and Chris Cooper when you had the chance to hang with them here at Broncos HQ? Kicked off line coaches and see how they appreciated my play and see what they were thinking about plugging. And put me in and seeing how they do things that Denver, Bronco just coaches. I got along with coaches that I felt like I wanted to play for understood what they were about the interest of what I was about. And that's something. That's great. You know, you don't with not all the coaches really understand what you're all about appreciates that. I just felt that connection with them and munch hack is a legendary off the line coach from Pittsburgh. Chris Cooper coach played right guard for the Broncos for eight years. I watched him play grown-up. So both of coaches, I feel like I'm gonna go to work for and don't use one of the coolest moments. And I was glad I was able to capture it at senior bowl are Steve atwater. Who obviously these guys do the show with every day. You saw on the field. You're excited meet him day before. And you said you got introduced me to Elway. Then he gets caught up doing something else. And rather than running to the team bus. You waited a couple of minutes went and found. John Elway the middle of field Justice shake his hand. But take us back through the emotion when you saw three or three pop up and John Elway's on the other end of that phone. It was it was amazing experience. Man, you know, just to be able to grow up watching a guy and and hear about how much will legend. He is. It was just remarkable to have them. Call me and tell me that they wanted me to be patient and tomorrow to walk on down their alley, and and be out there and shaking hands. It'd be part of the Denver Broncos team is going to be real to me. So a lot of emotion for sure. And then I'm just I'm extremely excited. Final few moments with new Broncos offense of Lyman Dalton reisner with us on orange and blue seven sixty Dalton. You have talked about the variety of positions. You've played on the line. Is there a place you feel you fit best? You know, I hate to answer that just because I'm gonna wear where I'm going to be Denver Broncos. But you know, I feel like anywhere on that often to learn to wherever month chat won't put me wherever you guys have a need. I want to be able to play. I see myself saying guard in the NFL, I think that will find, you know, find myself at and I know that that might be a position you guys could use help that. I I don't know. I'm saying you guys because we miss you got your place just cover them. Yeah. No doubt, man. So just trying to get that that spot where doing that? Now looking ahead when you get to the regular season. How many people in Wiggins are going to be coming down? I seventy six to Denver every Sunday to watch you play man. I sure hope a lot you guys might have to get a new part of the stadium. Just for the Wiggins fan, man. I'm extremely bad have many fans that are thrilled by phone flowing up and people are so proud of me. And you know, I'm going to have to have people at every game. You guys just gained the whole pan crew about a thousand people from Wiggins so big side. About that. They may have to you have to invest in a bunch of tickets or a couple of sweets to hold everybody. It's gonna take your whole rookie contract. Final thing. I have for you Dalton on Tuesday. John Elway if you had made if he had run into any prospects is restaurants. He said, no, I texted you to tell you that and to remind you, hey, pull a Sam Jones. Did you make your way to Elway's or just dumb luck? That Jon Il took you. I did order. I did order a bunch Elway's last night down here in Denver. So we ordered some ways for dinner, and I didn't make my way down. I think I had faith in the fact that if I was available when they got there that they wanna take a shot. Dalton we're signing free. Appreciate that very much. Yeah. Dealt. We really appreciate your time amongst very busy and joyful time for you and your family. Thanks so much. We can't wait to see you down here at you. See how training center, congratulations. Thank you so much. Don't.

"The for the first time in person against TCU this year the same game Nick Bosa got hurt in his career was done in college football, and he stepped up his game immensely and talking to him after the game where he forced a fumble for four touchdown at a safety in that game. I mean, he was a wrecking machine after Bosa got hurt and I talked to him afterward about the Bosa injury. And he looked me dead in the eye, and he said fits we just lost the brawn James of our defense. Now the defensive line, but our defense time for me to step up and become Michael, Jordan. And he elevated his game big time as a former as a defensive lineman as general manager. I saw him get better every single week. And when they played Michigan. I mean, they were having a hog tie him. Chris start with you. And then Mike I mean, what did you think of off on Draymond Jones? Because I think he's just starting to touch. How good he can be an the Denver Broncos up. Ain't gotta steal. No. I think they got. To steal two. And you talk about in today's NFL being able to have a defensive linemen that can provide that interior pass rush. I think Jones fits that Bill outside solo the guard side and right there at the three techniques. I think there's tremendous value can develop into one of those guys that can be a sub package guy nickel and dime packages that rush presence that you're looking for the God, Bradley Chubb and von Miller on the outside of that Denver Broncos defense on Jones. You could see him sliding in there to be that defensive tackle, the, no sub packages. Yeah. Would you look at what they've done over the last couple of years? I was they had the great von Miller. He drafted Bradley Chubb out. They draft Raymonde Jones. They also got a quarterback that we'll be talking about here in a second. But for Vic Fangio, and the multiple sort of defense is he likes to play. I really agree with the assessment of both guys where he has great up the feel value. I think it's it's going to be very difficult front for opposing offense to block Dari because who you're gonna double dream on Jones if he singled inside against any guards center, he's going to win most of those battles. That is.

"Waistband and allow his hands to kind of pull that receiver back into him and get him into his comfort zone, which is where he's really on top of guys that the Catchpole. Help out some offense of guys running back. David Montgomery from Iowa State. Yeah. He's a guy. No. Some folks have is the potential Rb one in this year's class. And it's it's not a great running back class, first and foremost, so there you're gonna get a lot more very -bility as far as who guys. Like, it's it's just like these draft boards. Right. Thirty two teams. Kind of choose your flavor Montgomery has phenomenal contact. So he's one of these guys that he might catch a swing pass out of the backfield and have somebody who's broken on the play from ten yards rolling star. And they're going to drop their pads on them and they're going to bounce right off because my Gummer is built like an NFL running back. He's really thick. But my questions with Montgomery stem from you know, his vision is the ball carrier. And then I just don't think he's overly explosive. So those two things concern me because as he's coming out of the mesh coin a lot of times. He's not picking up where the available cuts are developing for him. So it slows him down as he gains tries to gain ground into the line of scrimmage in the point of attack. And then once he gets in those situations where his feet are now dead. He doesn't have a lot of spring to jump cut laterally or make the shallow cut and explode up field. So I think that really tempers down at waters down a lot of his valuable skills because I don't feel particularly comfortable with him running between the tackles and reliably finding the holes at the the quickness that he will need to to cater for some of his athletic. Limitations. What about Daniel Jones a quarterback lot of buzz about him as first round pick? Maybe the New York Giants. What didn't you like about Jones? So jones. I think his absolute ceiling is not as low as the quarterbacks in front of him. I think. His ceiling is a player is probably somewhere in the Alex Smith to Ryan tannehill range, which is fun. It's the starting quarterback in the pros. And he has this this David cut cliff bloodline that people are going to point to win. He gets drafted and talk about how that's so great. But the Duke offense was not the same offense running some of his other pro quarterbacks that are on his resumes. It's just not the same offense. And Daniel Jones, I thought it was more of a bowl distributor than a passer and a playmaker. So he really shined in the short stuff. Everything within ten yards was typically on time. It was accurate. But if you force him to eat the bowl in the longer, you ask them to hold the football. The worst results got as a passer in all phases of the field. As far as you know, when I studied film the deep ball. Accuracy was not great. When his I read is taken away from. And he has to kind of work through his progressions. The accuracy Wayne's the balls no longer coming out on time. And then on top of that his work within the pocket dealing with pass rushers. I don't think he has a natural feel for navigating the pocket and sliding to avoid pass rushers seem to many reps where he kind of drifts into the pathway of pass rusher. And I think that can be a really really troubling quality to help get you over the hump and get past as a pros pro quarterback in the NFL level. What about last guy Draymond Jones from Ohio State? Yeah. Dream on was the player who considered coming out in last year's class..

"This kid is a quality athlete. I'm excited to see him test this week. Let's get to the D tackles the interior guys. Obviously Quinton Williams is the guy that heads up that group, but who else fits different parts of your criteria on the interior. Yeah. I think, you know, at Oliver, you look at his guy that it will certainly be a workout warrior, right? I mean in terms of the raw numbers, he's gonna post ridiculous athletic testing scores for defensive tackle. The question will be what does he weigh in it? Does he come in at two eighty five and put up great tests numbers? If he does that. I think he's he's a lock now back into that discussion. We initially talked about him, and you know, the top ten top twelve people have been slowly dropping him in these mock drafts has fallen to fourteen to Atlanta's he falling out of the first round in general. I mean, it's kind of crazy because we were just talking about him a year ago as a lock for the number one number two number three. And now we're saying, oh, he might fall out completely Daniel Jeremiah said on his his conference call on Monday that some teams might look. A him as kind of a Melvin Ingram edge player. You stand him up off the edge. So I can't wait to see what Oliver ways in it. I think we'll get that number on Friday. But we'll see what he weighs in it. I expect to test very very well. So we'll see there are a lot of really intriguing athletes on the defensive tackle position in this class and Christian Wilkins is a guy that should test. Very very well across the board Draymond Jones from Ohio State guy. I'm very very intrigued by he's going to test. Really, well, Gerald Willis has an explosive first step kid that really kind of a one year wonder at the college level initially a five star recruit. Landon Collins little brother goes to Florida has issued their transfers to Miami. And again took some time away from the game came back as a senior and now had a huge year and really kind of put himself on the map as a big time prospect. So we'll see what happens with Gerald Willis this week. He would really help himself with a quality workout one got to keep an eye on John Kaminsky from from Charleston, West Virginia D to kid is a really. Oppressive athlete. I mean for a big kid former high school quarterback that showed up. I want to say he was like two fifteen to twenty when he first got to campus. Now, he's like two hundred and eighty five pound defensive lineman was three four this past year. Only had three sacks. And that's the thing that people are kind of crushing them on. You know, it was the lack of production at a lower level of competition. But you watch Kaminsky, and he is just bigger and faster than everybody at that level of competition. Here's a very intriguing developmental player that I would expect to test very well Rennell Rin from Arizona state, another guy that I think will test well this week and really will continue to impress people. Again, slashes really well on film had a really good start to the week at the senior bowl kind of tailed off as the week went on. But was one of the stars of Monday's practice of Tuesday's practice rather? So I think when you look at a lot of these guys you could see why defensive tackles viewed as one of the best positions in this draft. There's a lot of town a lot of guys that should test. Very very well this week. I like it. All right. Let's get to the next position group, and we're talking linebackers friend. Yeah. I looked at the number one guy is Devon white from LSU. He's been compared a lot. So it's a roquan Smith from last year's class out of Georgia..

"And then you go to some of his go to the guys that are in the backfield with Haskins and you start with Mike Weber the running back from Ohio State. Tony said in the same report that Weber would declare he later did declare this tweak. He made that officials. And then you look at some of these other guys running back -sition, Devon single Terry's. A guy that a lot of people are really excited about a guy who can break a lot of tackles. He's got some juice. I'm excited to study single Terry. Daryl Henderson from Memphis as well. Another guy who's got some long speedy. Average like nine yards a carry of two hundred touches this past year. So a guy that can make some place in the open field karat white junior. I should mention along with single Terry. Both those guys from FAU and white what was the backup to single Terry. But still was able to be a big play guy was very involved in that offense. He decided to enter the draft. And then two other guys. Benny Snell from Kentucky and other Kentucky guy a very physical runner competitive runner. We'll see what his athletic upside is testing will go a long way for Benny smell. And then lastly, Alex Barnes who was productive this year for Kansas state. He announced he would enter the draft as well have owed some guys on the defensive side of the ball. Yes. Three names in the past week with Draymond Jones. The big one with first Jones from Ohio State, very athletic interior player. I've compared him in the past Sheldon Richardson. I'm a big fan of the way that Jones can get after the quarterback. He's can be a little bit stronger inside that hold up against double teams. But still an active player against the runs. I really liked dream on Johns. I think he's got. He's got a first round pick type of potential, and then you look at Justin lane the corner from Michigan state big long kid can run a former wide receiver. I've heard a lot of good things about Justin lane and then over the weekend. Tennessee linebacker Korte sap was a part time player for them. I think he had some issues with the coaching staff. So he decided he was gonna leave campus early. He's going to go into the draft. Before we get to the head to head bowl games frame. We always like to make sure people know where they can place a wager on these bowl games, if they're so interested, I'm already beyond bummed out that there's no more Thursday night football in the NFL, hopefully, the next couple of weeks these bowl games can hold me over and can bet online dot AG. "Games. Bet. Online dot AG. Use the promo code podcast one. Let's go head to head. Alabama Georgia SEC championship. I will be there Texas Oklahoma in the big twelve championship Clemson pit for the ACC title, Ohio State, northwestern in the big ten Utah versus you dub Washington out in the Pac twelve what do we got in terms of quarterbacks versus top defenses. Yeah. We talked about Clayton Thorson from north western big test for him this weekend. So high state and that defense, I know that they've been up and down. You know, we know that they are not the greatest unit that the buckeyes I've ever fielded but still have some NFL town upfront. Chase Yang the true sophomore defensive end. Looks like a guy is going to be a force for them moving forward. Draymond Jones is gonna really intrigues me inside at defensive tackle. So watch those guys getting after Thorson Damodar net and KENDALL Sheffield corners that have been a little bit up and down. But NFL people have their eyes on moving forward. So big test there for Clayton. On the other side. You've got Wayne Haskins going up against the northwestern defense that has some town as well at the second and third level. You know, you look at linebacker. The senior Nate hall and the junior Patty Fisher, certainly a couple of guys keep an eye on in this game. And then the senior corner Monterey hardy I mentioned earlier going to the to the east west shrine game. So keep an eye on those guys on Saturday. And then Friday night match MAC championship game Rossi got buffalo. And we're going to annoy you saw buffalo quarterback Tyree. Jackson big test rim against northern Illinois defense, they can get after the quarterback look at that pass rusher Sutton Smith a little bit under size for the huskies. But guy that certainly can get after it. We'll see what he translate to in the NFL. Looking forward to check in that one out Friday night for sure how about running back versus linebackers. Yeah. We've got that Pac twelve title Friday night as well. And you know, you got miles Gaskin how to big game last week in the apple Cup against wazoo going up against this Utah defense and Utah's got players at all three levels. But keep an eye on Markey's Blair for all the reasons we talked about earlier like I said, he is a throwback guy. He plays both free safety and strong safety depending on the game. So we'll see if he's kind of up near the box against Washington. And if he plays more in Gaskins grill, and we'll see how that matchup turns out, but that's one to watch Friday night. And then we'll look at the SEC title game. Ross the game that you're doing you've got Damian Harris one of my favorite running backs in the country going up against Georgia that front seven now obviously that defensive line but also at linebacker keep an eye on not transparent. A senior was a backup last year. He's got it. He can play downhill he's he's a fun guy to watch because the traits really the big question with Patrick has just been off the field. But on the other side, Alabama's gotta stop that Georgia run game. The Andrea swift Elisa Holyfield, those guys that'll. Eligible for twenty twenty draft. Go you look at Alabama and that front seven MAC Wilson is just so explosive..

"So what do we got friend? I mean, we got Thursday night. Ole miss Mississippi State in the bowl. We got the civil war Friday night. Oregon Oregon state the apple Cup, Washington Washington. Stay iron bowl, Alabama, Auburn Michigan. Ohio State, Clemson, South Carolina, Notre Dame, USC Florida. Florida state Stanford UCLA unbelievable. Three days of college football. What are the specific individual matchups? You look in it. He L let's just start with a couple of quarterbacks. I think you look at the iron bowl certainly jarred stood him. This is John enormous test for him against his Alabama defense. We know how that group is just chock full of talent. So if stood them does declare I guarantee you one of the first games that evaluators will be watching. We'll be this game. And just seeing how he reacts to that pro style defense with just so much blue chip talent at all three levels. You look down at the bowl with ole miss Mississippi State on Thursday night. Jordan, Tom who was a senior quarterback. We haven't spent a lot of time talking about really wasn't a full time starter and told this did start a handful. Games over the course of his career when shape Patterson was out of the lineup. But Jordan, Tom was been very very productive this year. Obviously a talented receiving corps their four ole miss so take on Mississippi State, and that defense, you know, we talked about all those guys at all three levels, sweat and Simmons and Peters Jonathan Abram. And all those guys, you know, Leo Lewis, and it's a good defense. Orissa state. So big test Africa Orden, Tom. What about what else do we have in terms of quarterbacks versus tub defenses? Yeah. I think you you look around the of Michigan quarterback shape passionate. He's got a big test here against us Ohio State defense that seems down but certainly could still get after defensive line chase young Draymond Jones. And all those guys up front will be a big test. Then you look at running backs against linebackers Damian Harris who I think was out with a concussion on Monday. Monday's practice. We'll see if he's able to go Saturday against the Auburn, you know, that that second level that Auburn defense that defensive line is very good. But they've got to seniors at the second level of Daryl Williams and desha Davis. Davis a little bit of a throwback. Dr Williams more built for today's game. And that he can kind of play space a little bit better. But both those guys are good against the run. So keep an eye out for those guys against Damien Harrison the Alabama run game out in space with these receivers and tight ends. He looked a little Egbo AJ Brown DeMarcus. You know, that's one of the best receiving course. In college football going up against that secondary. Mississippi State, you know, Jamal Peterson a big corner. He's a senior he's draft eligible guy who some people feel that could be a press guy. Some people feel could be a safety and the Jonathan Abram is one of my favorite safeties in the country. I mean, the guy has got a really explosive mover. He's physical. He's a dog out there in terms of playing against the run and also playing in space. He's a guy. I would absolutely keep your eye on in this Thursday night game. And then Louisville taken on Kentucky and other one. Look Louisville's obviously doubt between trio's out. But they do have some talent there. Jalen smith. Probably the best senior on the roster in terms of NFL potential big bodied receiver playing out in space against this Kentucky secondary. Where you've got Derek Beatty. You've got Lonnie Johnson. Mike Edwards in the slots or wherever Jalen Smith lines up. He's going to face a next level defensive back. So big test there for Jalen Smith and then down in the trenches. I know how much you love these guys up front Thursday night. You've got ole miss left tackle, Greg little some people feel is a I. Round pick in this draft. Technumn Montessori wet another guy. Some people feel is a first round pick. So you got a great matchup their sweat does lineup on both defensive defensive end spots. So sometimes we'll get matched up against little..

"And just like we'd kind of seen the last couple of weeks kind of a okay first half. But a lot better in the second half. They did especially on the defensive side of the football. They they really struggled Ohio State control Indiana early in the game. And actually was you know, I if you recall last year's Indiana game Joel was the season opener. It was Thursday night. And it was a very similar to the one last year where it was tight for about two and a half quarters and then Ohio State put it on. I'm back team ended up forty nine twenty one. This year's game ended up forty nine twenty six but certainly some red flags defensively in the first happened in the second half they held him to under a hundred yards and the offense kept doing what it was doing and Ohio State ended up pulling away. So do you feel like that second half performance compared to the first is that conditioning or is that coaching adjustments at half? Well, it's interesting. I was thinking that they must have made a bunch of adjustments at half time. But according to Greg Seattle the defensive coordinator, they did not. She said it was just simply a matter of them playing better defensively in the second half as opposed to the first half. They didn't really make any huge adjustments. But I do think adjustments for Ohio State and the coaching staff that they have is a key factor for this team. I certainly think against TCU there were some against Penn State. There were the seems like eighteen bat is a better second second half team against when they play competition. That's kinda hanging in there with them. You know, you don't have to make a lot of adjustments when you're playing to lane. But some of these big ten teams that are going to take your best punch, you sometimes they're going to have to make adjustments that make a difference in this this Ohio State staff. I think is well equipped to do that. And do you feel like it would? I mean, my son and I were watching the game. And I'm like looking at him going. I haven't heard them mentioned chase young. Yeah. I haven't heard that mentioned Draymond Jones. And then finally like an late in the third early in the fourth. He finally started here. Those guys names. Yeah. Chase had kind of a quiet game until you're right late in the game. Draymond jones. He's in a difficult position to make a lot of impact. Which is why he's so impressive because he does playing in the interior on the defense a lot of times those guys will do their job. But you don't hear a lot about them because they're getting push. I also remember he's dealing with a foot injury sprained ankle and in the Penn State game in left that stadium in a walking boot. And was wearing a walking boot all week. He said he only took like sixteen live stabs during the week of practice. So I'm not making excuses for him. But certainly he's hobbled this team. Joel right. Quite honestly right now is banged up. They they've got a lot of guys that are dealing with Nixon pains you've got Jonathan Cooper starting defensive end and me Harrison starting linebacker both left the game in a cart. We'll find out more about their status coming up today when coach Meyer talk, so this is a team that's a couple of ways weeks away from its. Bye week and could really use one right now to try to get a little bit healthier. Yeah. And that's the thing. You know, when you pull back and say, okay. This might be the most exciting stretch of football for the season this year. But you just got to keep notching some wins and getting healthy and healthy a lot of times as the game. And you talk about Dwayne Haskins and the Heisman. I mean, dude is in the mix as long as he stays healthy. Now, there's a couple of times and he's running the ball. Just kind of took my breath away. Matthew. Yeah. Boy, they actually called some cold runs early in that game. And I was thinking to myself. I don't know if I like the quarterback run with this kid, you know. That seems a little seems a little dangerous. But yeah, he I don't know what you say about the kid. He was tremendous three yards away from our sh- leasers single game passing record some of the passes were on the money. He did get hit a bit in the first half, especially. But I you know that offense line ended up giving him plenty of time. The only concern I would have right now. Offense is they are struggling to run the ball with any consistency. I mean three point two yards per carry against the Indiana defense. They got stopped on a fourth down in the second half, those kind of things they got to iron out. But boy, oh boy when they passed the ball good things seem to be happening. And that's what's fun to watch. No doubt. We'll be listening for you all week, Matthew. That's our sports director Matt McCoy on the buckeyes.
