"Eight year, veteran, ideally design a two year deal with an option. And then you go into fridge after your tenth year. Right. So your insurance is the third year. I just I can't say anybody doing that right now. And. It's just the whole league has to be spooked by this, it just have to be. I mean it's just it's a stunning. It's a truly stunning turn of events like again two of the three best players who are going to be available. This summer are now probably not going to play next year or maybe Klay. He's gonna play a little bit of extra. He's a little on believe. It's really bad for the league that I think that's getting lost in all this. Yeah. This is a star-driven league. It always has been an, you have lost two of your biggest stars in the span of three days and you've lost potentially your most popular team. I mean look, the warriors the could maybe not make the playoffs next year. Like, I think they probably will, but impossible, but it man, but it's crazy. They really they really could. I mean, they're going to be, they're going to be in a dogfight for him me say you're on a roll. So I'm not. No. But this I mean, I'm not making jokes like I know you're not gonna Klay Thompson is gonna miss probably the whole year. If let's say the resigned. In Durant, and Klay Thompson, let's say stays when I don't think he's going to you have Steph, Draymond Andrei, Shaun. Livingston prior retire. You'd have Steph clay, you'd have Steph. Draymond Andrea Gonzala in like whatever else like that team could not score against the raptors. That's like a, that's I believe, I believe, though, that team stays healthy, depending on what. But again, you're talking about you're talking about staff staying healthy. You're talking about Draymond who remember dropped twenty five pounds in March. Right like this, he signed DeMarcus, maybe they might have to. We're talking to Mike wilbon about that after the game, he's like today, these guys have to resigned, DeMarcus slave scoring like maybe maybe they do maybe DeMarcus comes back again because there's a bigger role for him. I dunno Margus tore his quad. He wasn't even supposed to the final. He had. No, I give on site, quick aside, DeMarcus cousins, a huge amount of credit for even being in this element. He had no lift at all. He was. And in the games they won. He was a big factor in us a big factor here today to mention kevon looney. Oh that arm. That whole his whole, right? Side was just killing him in game six looney better get paid this summer Israeli good. And he's really tough guy say things always end badly. Otherwise, they wouldn't end. And that's what's it look at some point to this is the cumulative effect of five years, right? All this like these guys have all played an extra hundred game sees minutes just at some point your body just wears now. Message after the talent..

"When you hear too Short's blow the whistle. You know what? It's time for fits in brooks' blow the whistle. That's when we let you know who tonight's trio, a referee's will be. And. The coming warrior contests how they blow the whistle individually and how they may or may not affect the basketball on test about FitzGerald has the knowledge. Of the officials in their names. And he will pass that along to you right now. Dow twelve guys made the NBA funnel, the first nine have all worked games one two and three. So these would be the last three guys and then after that it'd be kind of how they rated in their games, whether they do five six or seven so we're getting to the heavy hitters. Yeah. I mean this is Mike Callahan is the crew chief tonight this'll be as twenty first finals game. It's the most of anybody in the league. And so the Duke will be in charge. I also predict because of that this will have the fewest number of fouls of any of the games. We've seen so the games have been forty eight fifty three almost foul per minute. In the first game save bend, generally well officiated although it was a little Radic game three due to the youngster Cain. Fitzgerald during his first game, he was on a roll her usual, FitzGerald screwing up basketball. Well he waited all twenty four. Seconds to call the first phantom foul on. But so my Callahan's going to be running things tonight in and I think that's right. And if there's games five six seven I think you also see Mike again as a repeat performer? If I had to take gas before you to the other two officials, you mentioned Callahan, is this. Grat thought of as the best that he doesn't mind any contact who you think that favors? I can make a case is soul any Baca and Colli and Ceac him will like that. But I also think that bogut, Draymond Andrei in clay wouldn't mind that either. So I don't know that favors either team. I would say that the fewer stoppages actually favors the warriors, because it will allow flow and maybe oracle getting into things, and maybe not the Kawai sixteen of sixteen type of movie.

"Timer. Hey, Ben Cohen of the Wall Street Journal, is gonna join us. We've never had a Wall Street Journal guy before not sure Ben Cohen's, like right in the warriors are so big the Wall Street Journal is covering feels about that. Like when when unusual kind of outlets get involved. Like, all sudden, right? Like the New Yorker runs a piece on Steve Kerr or like the checked in on. Probably during this run. And I would also think the Atlantic probably sixty minutes. Sixty minutes has checked in there you go the New Yorker. That did that. Steve Kerr, Phil Jackson thing that you were telling me about probably cyberrays checked in. Yes. Yes. Kind of weird, right? Yeah. Wall Street Journal, the warriors are a global phenomenon though anyway, Ben Cohen has written a lot about the warriors here during this whole run. In fact, most, you chose actually made a bigger commitment to sports in general, so they Jason gays a fun writer for them, too. So anyway, we will do. He's in endeavoring. The hookup has been made always here. All right. Well, it's cool. We don't often have Wall Street Journal sports writers on, but they do some good stuff. Everybody check him out. Ben Cohen has been writing about the Golden State Warriors, so Ben, we welcome you to Camby are six eighty in San Francisco, the Murph and MAC show. Brian Murphy Paul McCaffrey. Bonnie Jill laflin? How you doing this one? Ben ben. Okay. How are you guys doing? So you're based in New York City. Right. Yes. Very long flight from San Francisco, as I've learned many times over the last five years, I know I was going to say so, you know, it's funny, you know, we talked about the warriors resonance as sort of almost a global phenomenon but you've written a lot about them over the years and just kind of maybe starting with your perspective, back east on, you know, because obviously, the northeast is a very you know, somebody say insular, but others might say east coast bias, but of the warriors, do you think would fully accepted and or respected and embraced by the basketball culture back east? Well, speaking from the heart of New York City, I can tell you that there is not much of a basketball team right here here right now. I don't know if you guys noticed it will wear understood. So but for sure, I mean, I think they are a global phenomenon and I think nowhere is that nowheres I'm workout, then, like everywhere across the United States it in television ratings. You see it in just like the enormous day to day interest in this team. They are the team of his generation in the NBA. And I think when you have had this sort of stain success, and there's run five years, where you no longer have to, like, tell casual basketball fan and stuff Korea's or who Draymond green or even like Klay Thompson dog is right. I mean, that is a level of I think that even someone who doesn't really follow the NBA on a day to day our to our basis has with his team by now. So do I think those when, when you have like they're almost like characters right? Like they're not even players. They're like characters like this long running television series like they're, you know, and so when people know that. That they just want to tune in to see what happens, right? It's like where's your friends at this point? Trying to figure out like you just wanna you just wanna follow along for the show, and I think that I think that's where we are. And I mean at the very different case of like what's happening in the Eastern Conference right now where it's been around. But no one really know anything about him. And this like, if you honest were get to the final somehow at this point, it's sort of like his coming out on the world stage. Right. Like it's his breakthrough and had that five years ago at this point. Right. So they've been into biggest games and the most watched games on television for four or five years, and people know who they are. Yeah, good stuff. Ben Cohen, Wall Street Journal has been checking in on the warriors. Your most recent piece why the Golden State Warriors are in the NBA finals again is about the five pieces. Steph curry Klay Thompson, Draymond green Andrea del. And Kevin Durant. You guys got flak for your tweet on that. Did you did you catch up on that? What are you guys talking about? I haven't heard anything. I guess you're on Twitter. It's funny because the tweet read very differently if you if you just take out, you know that word. And right. If you put all five of those guys if you tell us is the word. And, and you think about it as like if you take any one of these pieces out any one of these five guys, they're not that I see they are today, right? Like Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls, were based on like the singular force, and Michael, Jordan, and Scottie, of course. But like you take out a lot of the other role players and they probably still win championships. Right. If you take out anyone who are you taking out of those five guys, and they're, you know, they're, they very well might win four championships in five years. And if you tell you obviously if you take out stuff, but play and replace it with anyone else. I'd only may do this. Right. You take dream on. You take out dollar. You take out, Kevin Durant, like they needed, all five of those guys or sort of indispensable pieces. In a way, I think is very unique in NBA history. Well, you know what's interesting is that it maybe, maybe not maybe you do take out, Kevin Durant and win a title. That's we're living right now, for sure. But, you know, they didn't have Kevin Durant where they didn't win in twenty sixteen. Right. Like I do think that he hated Allieu to the team was winning in twenty seventeen in two thousand eighteen and going up against LeBron James, and he was the final MVP for a reason he was best player on the court in a series with LeBron James two years in a row. And I just think like the way that this team is build their obviously magical, and they play like this. Right. Like there's I you know, I stay up until we hours in the morning to watch them play regular season games when they're playing like this because there's just so much fun to watch. Right. And they're they dominated other teams and they run through the league. And, and it was really really a revolutionary style. But I think they need Kevin Durant to be ally. Leonard and attention co don't you? I mean, the blazers and a lot of way and a lot of ways I think were very well equipped for a warriors team built. Like it wasn't fifteen and sixteen to win. Anyway. Right. They probably didn't they didn't need, Kevin Durant to beat the players, but I still think they need. Them to beat the raptors or the box. And, and I think you can argue that they really needed him to, to beat the Cavs over the last year. Maybe not so much last year. Definitely in two thousand seventeen I agree with that. Ben Cohen, Wall Street Journal has written a lot about the warriors recently here, including a piece on may fourteen Golden State, Warriors, graduate school basketball now is about kevon looney learning from Draymond Andrei, you, maybe, you know, share with our listeners out there just that sort of the theme behind that peace. And that's not one of the five pieces. You were talking about, but a guy who's become a huge part of the team are huge part of this, this postseason run kevon looney by studying at the feet of the of the sun says. Yeah, and I think Steve Kerr called him a foundational piece of team the other day. Right. Which is kind of amazing to hear about a guy who didn't really play for his first four years on the roster. The thing about looney that really interested me was that when I was talking to people around the team and just seeing how much they were relying on looney and asking what made him so good. Like why? Where did he come from? Season that he is suddenly, so useful, what everyone to a man said was he's one of our three smartest guys and he like him and it's Draymond Andre and I thought, well, what would happen if you were an MBA role player and for your first three and four years you didn't play? But you were on the bench just sitting, and asking questions of cream on green and Andrei Guatemala for the whole time. Well, you would probably be one of the smartest players in the league, right? Like where else are you going to get access to those sorts of mine who are so good at their particular skills. Right. Like there. There's a brainy defenders there, so intelligent when they get on the court, they always make the right play. And as it turns out, like that, sort of what goes on looney has become right? Like he's not he doesn't have, like, the, the positional versatility of someone like it would all our dream on, then he's not guarding LeBron or coli or Janas, but he's always make the right play when he's on the court. And I just thought like you know, it was so interesting to hear him talk about how he. He studied at the feet of cream on and Andre because he understood like you know, you, you learn from them, and you're probably going to be a really serviceable player in the NBA. And that's what he's become over the last four years after really not doing much before them. It's been incredible. He's been huge huge in the whole the whole bench use during the last two Houston games in the Portland game shined a light on the Steve Kerr Bob Myers, sort of regime. They've built with Franklin numbers. Looney. Is that if you look at their if you look at their lineups and their to best lineups over the course of the regular season? It's the death lineup right? Which has become like, maybe the most influential lineup in the history of the NBA, and then it's the four all stars, and come on looney car on the court because he knows like he, he understands his role to a t and understand exactly what he has to do to be useful on the court with Steph curry, and Draymond green, and Kevin Durant Klay Thompson, and that like to have a piece like that is so essential. When you're so top heavy like end to get on a minimum right? Like this is in addition to, like, just his basketball value. His financial value is like immense and enormous to this team. And I don't know that they're going to have that going forward, obviously, because he has certainly created more of a market for himself the way that he's played over the last few weeks. But, you know, when you're so top heavy when you have like when you when you have devoted, so much of your cap to your guy to be able to find a guy you can trust in, like a game, six on the road against Houston, who is making the minimum salary like the very least NBA teams are allowed to. Pay him. That's the remarkable find good stuff and then Ben pulling back big picture, just because, you know, Wall Street Journal obvious, we're talking to Ben Cohen of the Wall Street Journal, is about money and finance and markets and all that..

"Interesting to see how Mike Antoni reacts all of this now, new little, something for you with jump on sportscenter little courtside, roulette producers. See who they've got for us. They're going to just jukebox us and see what's going on. I think who's come on show, got Damian Lillard. There you go. All right. So therefore Scotty, I'm going to ask you about Damian Lillard who's warming up behind us. What does he have to do differently in game three because they are trapping him? They're sending double teams. There's an a triple teams. And we saw Andrei go Dallas stripped him at the end when he had that chance to win the game. Think Damon has inserted himself into the game a little bit more offensively better in the half court. I think he's he's playing too much of a fifty foot game in half court situation. The warriors have pushed their offense all the way up to the half court and also I think he needs to speed the game. I think he's a lying. The warriors defense to set up on possessions, working utilizing their transition. And I think he's gonna find himself getting some better offense and even maybe half in his team made more. But when you allow the warriors to set off, and they're, they're looking at you, and they got five dollars guys there and you got Draymond Andrei. Equal dollar really spearhead net. They're very tough to school. You're talking about. You're talking about some of the best defenders in the league, right? And Andre his seat, everything, everything. So he knows how to attack demand. I talked to Damian a bit before game two and then again afterward he is he's frustrated, and he feels like he's not been able to get space that he wants frustrated with some of the foul calls that he feels aren't getting whistled if your player with that mindset, and every coach is telling him, I'm sure what you just said. What do you have to change mentally to actually do, it actually get the space against a guy like Hunchback Dala who's trying to push you to have? Well, I'm saying he had started. This game out pushing the ball in this, and I have not seen him pushing the ball in transition trying to get early offense. And if you out this warriors team that set up then he's not going to get good shots. He's going to be trying to get to the bucket from fifty feet out, basically half-court situation. So he had to change in order to get a change. You've got to be willing to change. Tim, thank you so much for, with us bringing us a little Houston knowledge and a little blazers knowledge we'll see a little bit later in this series..

"It if you don't like it screw you early honestly i love this kd uh stop did you see him going off on the media he's mad about everybody rip curve for letting the players coach the team he said everybody just loves to eight on a warrior's whatever we do they just don't wanna say ada so they're gonna make excuses up why they don't like us are why was disrespectful that's a rodney the wrong way because who gives a shack who cares a product was on a card the coach was humble enough and he doesn't have any go to think he has to do everything on his own and we know as players that we can't survive without a great coaching staff it was an amazing exercise i thought he said basketball is a collaborative effort you don't have one guy controlling everything you don't have one voice that's what you got veterans ford alba go just get us to a different way because we're younger david west in tied those little differently than kirk can but he's the coach and we listen to on so it's different voices throughout the whole season i thought it was incredible idea by kurds to give us the power us figure things out on our own we scored on just about every atl after time out all the guys robson grape layton showed there i keep for the game and their level of knowledge as a player and also seeing it on the outside from the bench i didn't drop drava blade that i'm not that nice i'm not good if focusing on multiple things when i play so i just listen to the guys like west draymond andrei anna just detract to do the best job that i can i'm not mentally in it for me to drava play and then go out on the court and employment game i try to focus on my game once i get older i could probably do that blah blah blah blah one of the things that's interesting about them is that there's people talking about iggy andrei iguala suddenly becoming a problem for the team and netties fallen off dramatically shooting twenty three percent from 3 and remember they all of as his career lows in points first shot attempt um you know shooting 35 percent league average from deep bond 2point sex 3point attempts for game.

"I'm not good if hosea multiple things when i play so i just listen to the guys like west draymond andrei anna detract do the best job that i can i'm not mentally in it for me to drop a play and then go out on the court and and play my game i try to focus on my game once i get older i could probably do that blah blah blah blah one of the things that's interesting about them is that there's people talking about iggy andrei egg with a suddenly becoming a problem for the team and that he's fallen off dramatically shooting 23 percent from 3 and remember they all of this his career lows in points for shot attempt um you know shooting 35 percent league average from deep bond twopoint sex 3point attempts for game in his first four season gone state blah blah blah now he's shooting more at twenty two percent on one point seven attempts per game this season uh anyway everybody's saying that he's at thirty four the you know he's fallen off and he's become less of a factor for them there right i think they are and you know i've been talking about this all week i watch them lose to portland i still think there loaded i still think that really good i still think they have curry katie green thomson and that they're effective there's no denying that they're good there i don't need advantages as good as its ban i don't think everybody thinks it so automatic that they're going to win at all and it's just a done deal i dank as you've heard me say over and over and over that houston his built for this i want to see him play them in a sevengame series and see what happens i don't deny that the warriors can beat anybody but i also think i've seen him be beep so if i've seen him get be then i note i can get beat and i want to see if someone can actually beat them four times not not once four times that's what makes it so hard beating a board i'm not beating him once anybody can beat anybody once i've even seen my team beat the best team once and that'll be the last time we do it but i've seen it happen so i think anyone can beat anybody but beat them four times that's a.

"The status stats i gotta credit slater at the athletic the death lineup what they call the hamptons fiery ah a nickname i've never embraced although peak on podcast alert i'm going on t k's podcast today meantime care going to break it down to talk tiger woods all right buddy i know i know there's a little history there but arrow commie for your boy even if you're boy murphy's on it do not hang out with you four hours every day how a commie kim socked mall easy now easy i'm going on today with them so and we are tech tiger tiger woods but anyway at the f lennick slater pointed out the death lineup the hamptons five the draymond andrei staff clay he would dollar he yeah ready yeah there in the minus this year about up they are in the freaking minus they are getting out scored when they're on the floor that's interesting that's like crazy right so taubert ask her about that i think it's a combination of uh first you know you you if you play small i got everybody has to play really hard and there's a reason we don't use that lineup for long minutes it's uh you know it's a it's a it's a taxing way to play um but i think the you know we those guys haven't really been engaged enough yet as a group then the other thing is i i think teams have adapted to will we've done over the last few years that's really interesting to me that we talked about this how boston has come at them and how oklahoma city came adam and the houston came out of me by the late forever the pistons dominant here but that he saint teams are adapting now they've said okay the warriors are going to go you know with basically no bigs there's going to run with draymond so we're going to adjust.
