"You'll never let me live. That way i walk okay. That concludes the show. Wait a minute wait a minute. Let's go all right. So comes the spring of two thousand twelve spring of two thousand twelve. Mr henry style diet now. He lost from two eighty nine. You had succeeded in losing close to twenty pounds by that point just to the sheer effort that you're making out an excising that's right i was. I started a program of just walking the beach and walking around my neighborhood. And i can do a full loop. I can go down to the jetty and come all the way back to my house. And it's two miles and you were doing that. Every day. that was. I was doing every day. Yeah right so in that process you lost about twenty pounds then came in earnest the diet and you washed from the period of say april of twenty twelve to. I believe you said was halloween on Twenty david how aline what are you. People put me on. The man said halloween. He said how you know. What if you don't think you see this. What are you taking your shirt off. I just want you see. I'm a body builder. Yeah your buddy but okay take a look. Okay tipped right. You wanna go ahead and feel helped. What what it feels like just go. Yeah no i don't but if you did that you'd feel like what you'd feel like. Yeah i'd feel what you can feel list. You see what he just did. He put his hand on his all right. Like i said that's the end of the phil. Hendrie show no sweat. Well the knock it off you guys. This guy just threaten me. You just said that you'd want to feel you think no. I didn't use stuttering mumbling half tongue. Jack ball thank you very much. No and that where you guys come on. Oh my god. He's losing so twenty twelve ninety pounds twelve ninety two halloween halloween. Yes yes you lost. From april of two thousand twelve to halloween of two thousand twelve seventy nine pounds. She went from two eighty nine down to ten that was about eighty pounds and it was around. If i'm not mistaken what did you say was like seven ten pounds a month. Ten point one point like just just ten pounds a month right and you look great. You look good you you know in and everything was right this time then you next time. Then you ballooned up to. What balloon up. What was the way that you got to in around twenty sixteen two thousand seventeen. I got fat again and it was up to sixty to sixty. You lost that weight and by january of twenty nine thousand nine you back down to two ten again went you. Yes i was okay. Now what happens. Mr henry once again puts on another fifty pounds and balloons. Way back up to sixty and this is about the time that you're meeting jackie bales. You're traveling. what happened there. I just. I'm looking for the right word. Okay like you've got some sort of global sounds if there was gluttony paralysis you went. Oh is that what. That's called dr settle. They're trying to help you out now. That they did. They're making fun of me all right so the global paralysis aside. Yeah so in the months of the early months. Twenty twenty when you started dating jackie and you were going back and forth to to florida You then we're putting the pounds on again And you got up to around by the summer of two thousand twenty you back up to two sixty something like that. I got up to two fifty six to fifty six. Okay so and anybody who wants to check this out. You can go to phil's instagram account. I think that there's there's that is actual video of you. Fill talking to you know hanging around a barbecue and that kind of thing with your gut hanging out your was used okay. I'm not. I'm not denying that. So doctor settler he puts on this way you put on the weight and then. When did you decide to start dropping the way again february february this year. Yeah all right so february. And i've noticed you're not dropping the way as much as you was and that i believe is because you've added a fair amount of fruit died up. Let me just say this fruit. Okay what are you look at it. What is he looking at. What are you doing today says fruit. He's all like fruit. I'm going to get a better way to kick your fucking biased. Just because you're a bodybuilder doesn't mean you can throw a punch you wanna try a guy. He's laughing what is so funny when your show is so out of control today nothing i just. I'm just laughing. Put your shirt back on. Dr santa if you don't mind okay. But i got this guy over here. Put your shirt back on dr sandler. If you don't mind what am i. 'cause i'm still ripped it's like you know aside and you you want to see how hard i can punch. I'm sorry but not up. i'll button it up so anyway so anyway fill started his diet to fifty six in february of this year in february this year. Now here's the thing phil and you just discovered this and i was telling you this over and over and over again over and over and over again you know. Yeah what's everybody looking at. Dr seventy went over over. You know what i'm talking about so you told me what i told you that fruit while it does not necessarily put the calories on it makes it more difficult free to shed weight because the fruit sort of messes with the metabolism of a little bit. The body is wanting to lose weight but the fruit introduces the metabolism. The thought that well maybe we need to eat. Because this you know the fruit it must be like we're living on an island is something you see no. I don't. I don't understand that what i've heard dr seller it said that the body's metabolism sometimes think there is a feminine and so therefore will not lose much weight as it holds onto the calories. Right that is true. That's very true. The body reads different input. So if phil introduced to his diet this time fruit as a way of keeping himself full which is fine You weren't even counting those calories correct. No i was not all right. What happens when you begin to introduce an excessive amount of fruit fructose or through tokyo. We don't what are you looking at. Listen because that's that's a that's a word. It means the land of fruit the another other words what the body is perceiving is we must be living on an island is something because this guy is now. I know you're fucking around. No i'm not. I just laughing at the idea of. It's it's the bodies funny isn't it. it really is. The body is hysterically. Funny things but so. The body is thinking well. Are we living on an island. We must have been thrown off of a ship or something. Because all he's eating is fruit so we must hold onto the calories. Now you're not losing it. We end not putting weight on..

"Homelessness and Holes in the system so large. I'm not even doing expansion. Based based on where is the problem the biggest because it's huge everywhere so it was just. Where can we deploy the fastest so like right now? The cities that are really doing well at accelerating that process. Cincinnati has been great to work with so far I'm going to New York this weekend. There there's some talks there I'm GonNa Forget some but Saint Louis Orlando having great. Talks for Dallas I mean there are several others but like those are kind of Oklahoma City because they're kind of the ones that are in the hopper but By Cincinnati Myrtle beach. Some so. You know it's just everywhere needs it and it's exciting to see how many places are like. Yeah we get this it makes sense. We want you here right now. We're talking time. Lime was the the You hopping on board here. was that after writing the booker before my book. Yeah my book was Came out in August eighteen and then I step back from public life in October so like I still recommend the book to people but Chapter Nine like if I had it another shot at it. I'd probably describe it. I was going through differently right right. Yeah well my publishers talked to me about that. I'm trying to finish living it before I. Yeah right there. Yeah I hear that. Yeah actually through your book the other day on a on a livestream that I was doing so so jeff thanks. Yeah we both we. I was just curious. You know when I when Steph Dr Seventy Davis who did the last episode. Where when she was telling me about you I was like okay? Yeah you know I mean you know obviously interested I wanNA sit down and talk to him and she was like he's a great guy. You're gonNA love visit Dessau. Stephanie is he's like you're gonNA love. Okay let's sit down and talk and so I was really curious about your backstory and I. It's just audience. We talked previous on this. That weren't really going to touch that much on the past. Because I wanted to talk about the future more than new thing but if you want to touch on it really quick as you I'm happy to Yep Yes so by far as my back story Let's see okay I'm fifth generation. Kansas City city was thinking hey I was. I was raised with the idea of service in my family and not military service but just serving others. My Dad was a cop night. My parents met because they were juvenile probation officers in their day jobs. So that's kind of the house. The house grew up in when school in the East Coast. was thinking thinking of maybe one day I'll serve. I didn't really know what that meant to know if I ever would. And then. I was in D. C.. Nine eleven happened and a lot of folks. Our Age was like well. I'm clearly going to do that. So went in DRC during law school at Georgetown Didn't go in his Jaguar as a military intelligence officer Got Down Range in October six six to Afghantistan and they said okay. We got two jobs you could do. I was there I replaced to attend a colonel. The second lieutenant which was all sorts of weird and they said okay we need. We need an analyst for the night shift. They said but we also have this thing. We need somebody to go out and investigate corruption and espionage within the Afghan government and the Afghan military so so is basically kind of like humans or human intelligence work Obviously one of those was way safer than the other and I didn't pick that one because I was twenty four and you know thought I was invincible and the night shift has got awful. Yeah I mean it's sort of like men volunteered to do all this stuff. Now trained up like Oh and do their army we stop right. You know so you know I. I went out sometimes in street clothes. met with folks spend a lot of time with the people of questionable allegiances. Mrs Who were more armed than me and outnumbered me and Anyway so I did four months doing that and then I came back act. became an officer at school platoon trainer in the guard. And then at the same time Ran For office around for state legislature. SLATER WANNA raise representing Kansas City in the state legislature. Then at the age of thirty one became the first money will ever to win. Statewide office in the country became secretary state of Missouri and And the whole time was dealing with untreated undiagnosed post traumatic stress nightmares. The whole the whole deal and telling myself like I can't stress. Yeah I never got blown up and not realizing that the experience of running around trying not to get kidnapped all the time could be pretty traumatic and and then you know had a very successful political career going ran for the. US Senate got the silver medal outperform. The top of the ticket by sixteen points. Which Kinda I put me on the map That in an ad where I symbol the rifle blindfolded. I'm giving you my number. That usually gets people that's what people remember And so as I did that ended up frankly kind of famous as a result of that and then was like what do I do now started an organization for voting rights. And next thing I knew people were talking about me. Running for president. President Obama said some very nice things about that possibility. Basically and Then I was thinking I'm going to run for President and whole time. I was actually getting worse as far as my own symptoms and not dealing with it at all Somewhere in there also to things things. That happened I had a child with my son was born. My wife and I've been together seventeen. I kind of skip that part of the thing that happened is the royals won the world series twice and that story. I've told you so so far. So those are the major events and then You know just kind of burned out to the point where it's like. I was realizing that I was putting too much stress on myself but I didn't know what was wrong. I wouldn't admit to myself as post traumatic stress and I said you know what rather than run for president in twenty twenty. I'M GONNA go home run for mayor. Kansas City. That was going great. I was GONNA win by a country mile but he's got worse and worse had suicidal thoughts and just October second in two thousand eighteen. This is like things are going great professionally professionally. I my book was New York Times Bestseller. My podcast debuted at number one in the country. We're going to win the mayor's race but I was like I'm not sure I'm GonNa live through this so I stepped back. Winter winced. Va got help And about eight months of therapy and now I work here and I'm sitting down with Y'all that's my life story. Go Yeah I I mean I. As far as the therapy there'd be I mean when Jeff and I first met I just got now and When I was still active duty military was really big thing to Just use don't talk about mental health. This is it's not something you do I was fast tracked staffs are and I think Steph aren't four years And so you didn't talk about it or as a career ender so when I got out I I'd I had been undiagnosed on. Just everything had not done anything in I I was telling Jeff I was having days where it was like. I'M NOT GONNA make it out of this bed man. I mean this bedroom like you know like I don't know and Emotional numbness that dog. I can't feel anything what's the point of I was. I was not showing up to class and just being Mike Man. I don't know what I'm doing more mice elated. I don't know but he was like man. Just go see somebody going in and it was good. Yes you know I. How did you two meet? How'd you said this met in school? Were both non-trade the traditional that you and You know it's a free route on premed story. We were in a lot of the same classes asses. I think I met him about a month into my first semester. Back in school. I mean when you're thirty K.. You kind of tend to stand well also like that's just Kinda see other room. Yeah two dogs bark at the actual thing jeff how to be on his bag and I was like I I see yeah. WHO's this dude so yeah No and I went through. You know my own kind of mental health journey and we've talked about a little bit but I It is kind of the same thing you know. It's it's one of those things like you keep saying. I can help myself. I can help myself and then you kind of have to hit that wall most before your before you know At least that's how it was for me. I I basically It how how it worked for me was I was just Kinda listlessly flowing through and I'm a diabetic. Was Not taking care of myself and my mom base leave told me one day. You are going to therapy and I actually went to It's is a therapy. It's a center over an eighth cottonwood springs and they They have you know a very bevill. They're wonderful place. I can't say enough. Nice things about those folks but I went and did did I want to do their outpatient therapy for about a month and a half something like that and I came back out on the other side and I was was not diagnosed with major depressive disorder and I can't on the other side and I was like I've been living my life under a shroud for almost eight years ears and I couldn't believe it and that was a really eye opening experience. That's why wouldn't retard when I first met you know And we got to know what you're a little better in our. I was kind of seeing if some of the stuff he was struggling. Like you say you know having a hard time getting out of bed or having a hard time you know just doing the things you need to do You know it was pretty obvious to me. Thank you know that. I saw a lot going on with him that I had experienced and I was very much like. Hey man you know you can get help with this. You don't have to live like this one and and so I think that you know I think and I think that that's such a powerful thing just that whole idea of the snowball effect that you you take what you've learning. Pass it on to other people they can use it. And that's one of the things actually when When Tom and I were talking about potentially getting a chance to come to a podcast with you you know I? I think that's one of the most amazing thing I mean. You've done some incredible stuff I mean but like just the idea that I mean literally. You probably did more for mental health. You know just doing what you did. And you know being there on the public stage and I mean most people ever be able to do in a lifetime and you know hats off for that. I was very fortunate to be able to do that. I mean it it's.

"Road and little Chicago. So this is where your morning commute takes you for the morning. It's really dark. So it's kinda hard to tell exactly what they're working progresses at this point. Looks like we do have an emergency vehicle. Police officer on scene to help kind of either detour get folks around this this morning.
