"But as you correctly pointed out this multi system inflammatory syndrome in children. Reports have been that children of black race have been more just personally affected. I don't think we know for sure why that is. I can propose a couple of hypotheses. One we know that racial and ethnic minority populations have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic as a whole due to a large variety of complex factors. And so Could this just reflect Increase in infections in that group. And therefore we're seeing increased post inflammatories ACQUAI- but it is possible but given that we know that Other inflammatory conditions in children like how disease can carry with them a racial predisposition or genetic predisposition That is also kind of high on the list of possibilities and so. I think we need to evaluate the demographics of WHO's being affected by this carefully so that we can best understand how to identify manage and treat these kids. So that's a great summary on what we know about. This new entity called multi-system implement syndrome potentially associated with Corey nineteen bridges affecting the paediatric age group and there is now a health alert going all across the world to care systems both the Emergency Department Front Line. Docs pediatricians to watch out for this disease. In as you just heard Dr Raja pocket psyche described about the signs and symptoms of this disease and also about some of the regional disparity which we're seeing associated with this season with multi system implementary syndrome in children. We don't know what the causes but that needs to be identified walked up. Is there any additional point? You're like our listeners. To your or learn about this disorder what to do what we are going to look at the numbers to go up so I think the important thing to recognize. It's a serious but thankfully appears to be a rare complication and children. But I think for that reason we really need everyone That cares for children in healthcare to be aware of it. And be alert to it. As you mentioned This is now a reportable disease Here in the United States as well as around the world the World Health Organization. It's also collecting global data and so if people are seeing Children who may meet the case definition and their practice we would really encourage them to reach out to their local public health officials and report these cases Just because collection of of data and I will be ultimately what helps us to understand this syndrome better and since it is rare. Each center may only see a handful of cases but we really need tekere gate all of that information together to fully understand what is going on here so I would really encourage people to to keep an eye out into a report cases that they come across to their local public health so they can be shared with others all learn from this. "Actor based on your your years of experience, you're training your education, the thousands of tops. He's that you have both personally performed thousands more than you ever viewed supervised all of the medical information. The autopsy reports, the photographs, the toxicology reports, the videos. Determinate clause. If that's to look one McDonnell. Yes. What is the cause of death as multiple gunshot since Dr? What was the manner of to on McDonald, the manner of debt this homicide. From WBZ Chicago and the Chicago Tribune. This is sixteen shots. The police shooting of Liqun MacDonald I'm Jen white. The prosecution continued their case today in the murder trial of Jason Van Dyke. Today's testimony was largely focused on a meticulous walk through the autopsy of Liquan McDonald. It also focused on his medical condition at the scene of the shooting and at the hospital, Chicago Tribune reporter, Stacey Saint Clair was at the courthouse. Stacey testimony from the first two witnesses today spend a lot of time on when Liqun McDonald died, defenseless, pushing that McDonald was dead on the street. He came into the. No. Correct. He had no heart creek. So he was deadman came to. Correct. So can you tell us why this question of whether he was still alive where at least not dead when he got to the hospital, why this was important. That argument sort of captures two things for the defense. The first is it addresses the idea that the quantum McDonald's injuries were so grave and so serious that he was already dead on the scene. And therefore, when you see the video and you don't see any Chicago police officers do anything to help him, there's nothing they could have done. That's one of the ideas they wanna plant with a jury. 'cause because it doesn't look very good. It looks like they're indifferent to the to the death of this boy. And as we saw yesterday from the Cook County sheriff's officer, he was the only one at the scene who stopped looked at Liquan bent over him and told him to hang on that he could hear the ambulances coming and help was on the way police officers have told us previously that you know they're not supposed to give aid. It seems like that because they could make it were. Worse. They could aggravate the injuries further, but still that is a rough thing for the jury to see in sort of make sense of. The second thing that argument does is that the defense is clearly up an argument as to which shots where the lethal shots in this case, and they spent a lot of the day, sort of saying the first two shots to the quantum McDonald were one to his chest and one to his throat, and they both occurred while he was standing and both those shots caused such grievous injury that he couldn't have survived, and he died almost immediately from those shots. The fact is that the defense has been disputing that there were sixteen entrance wounds. Can you explain that the prosecution has to prove that there were sixteen shots because he's charged with sixteen counts of aggravated battery. They're trying to confuse the jury money things up a little bit, and that's what all good defense teams do in murder trials. While we would be the wounds with forensic pathologist. Dr. Pony Aren Kumar. McMahon, put up photos from the autopsy showing each wound Macron McDonald's body. Okay. Where is it located on the gunshot wound. Number one was on the head or the scalp on the left side. It was a gunshot great one and a half inches beneath the top of the head German pan did spend about ninety minutes going bullet by bullet through the Quan, McDonald's wounds, and that is meant to to show the jury, how serious, how horrific the shooting really was. And for most jurors, they'll tell you the worst part of their jury duty in a murder trial is the day. They see the autopsy photos because it's really something they, they've never seen before CSI or NCIS like really doesn't prepare you for sort of the brutality of those photos. And there were twenty four wounds exit and entrance wounds on the quantum McDonald's body and and they saw every single one of them sometimes. You know, more than once and they saw xrays of bullets that were lodged inside the Quan, McDonald's body and not that it's a very powerful day for any prosecution in a murder trial. And I think it was a powerful day for the prosecution in this one. What were your takeaways from defense attorney? Dan, Herbert, questioning of Dr Arnn Kumar right now, it's it's sort of more your typical murder defense in that you raise questions about every prosecution witnesses, accuracy, and whether you know they have the story, right? But really, you know, their defense strategy is going to be to convince the jury that Jason Van Dyke had a reasonable fear for his safety or the safety of the public. When he shot on McDonald and prosecution witnesses that were called today, just didn't offer the opportunity for them to hammer that message home to the jury. I would briefly touch on something that came up yesterday. We heard from another Chicago. Officer's name is David Ivanka vich. He had a taser and was headed to the scene when he heard the call over the radio. Why was his testimony important officer get testified on Monday that he followed the Quan McDonald on foot for for several minutes and had radioed for a taser unit to come, help him apprehend the Quan McDonald. And he said that made no aggressive moves and he followed behind him with his gun drop drawn, but never felt the need to to fire it because he'd never felt that he was in danger and he said he was just buying time into the tasers unit could get there. And so while they were waiting for the taser to come, that is when Jason Van Dyke and his partner, Joseph Walsh showed up and Jason Van Dyke soon began shooting. So Van Dyke fires. The first shot at nine fifty seven thirty five according to the video Aspen played in court and. And then the tasers officer when he testified yesterday, he sort of narrated a video of himself arriving and that video shows that he arrived at nine fifty eight and seventeen seconds. So less than fifty seconds after Liquan McDonald was shot. So when you think about the scope of the testimony today, what's the big takeaway for you after sort of a rough day yesterday for the prosecution, they basically reminded the jury, hey, the reason why we're here is because the defendant put. You know sixteen bullets into a seventeen year old, Chicago man. And here are the sixteen bullets in the twenty four bullet holes that that shooting created Stacey. Thank you. Thank you. Judge
