"They liked that tradition to. I don't know if it's something about us preacher types. But i did of those dramatic things like you're going on the roof with a gun the santa one year i said Now we're not gonna do a christmas tree and the kids were right at that level where they almost got the common sense nature. Our life was very very full at the time and i was pastoring. A church and christmas eve was just you know had multiple services and the place was packed in. I kind of remember at this time. With the shutdown that you know it's worth it's worth praying for those pastors because that was a highlight often of their year to get to see people who potentially we're going to be more involved in church or that. They only got to see a couple times a year and ran. It's really be a letdown. Not having that. But anyway. I did the no tree thing and they. They got over their disappointment. But then on christmas eve i use it as an excuse to get the kind of single people and others who didn't have other family around and said i wanna help me. I'm going to stop and get a tree on the way home and literally got a christmas tree on the way home and Got different kinds of ornaments as well as some of our own and just had this. The kids were stage where i could put them in a bed next state asleep and it became big party decorating the tree and they woke up in the morning just came out and we're just. It was worth every bit of the pain. It caused the joy they were like. Wait really got a tree. And so the specialness of it was was very much highlighted. And i think if nothing else kids pick up. The christmas is important even if parents don't leave a message at christmas No it's important right. I think they they know this special. I will tell you one time i can't. I wish i could ever who it was but somebody complained to me about why the church was trying to make christmas into a religious holiday and we had an interesting conversation about no. This really is the heart of but it's it's a ken be lost. I think is a christian family. It's a losing battle to try to fight against culture and say no. We're not gonna have you know santa claus renting like that. You know it's all around us but we can use that really fun time celebration but then in the midst of it it starts in our own. Hearts is the reality of the birth of christ central in may and then how to make central in my family in the midst of all other stuff. We gotta close in a minute but let me just say something personally. You holidays make us remember the past sometimes in ways that can be sad sometimes. Happy but for you Your wife has died very recently in. You gotta remember what a what a joy she was to your life for so many years Dying at one or two days before you're what anniversary fifty fifty third and You can think about those things but we can also think about the fact in you. You newly married your celery and christmas's newlywed this year. How is that it is. It's just crazy and it's such a mix set of emotions of remembering the past engaging with what's going on now new family new wife and a new tradition that were figuring out now for ourselves. Yeah it's it's it's a set of emotions are are pretty all over the all over the place and i'm so grateful because my wife understands you know she's not threatened by then and we're finding together. Well i so. Thank you for sharing with us today. Let me just say a word as we close. I'd like to read a facebook post from yesterday. December seventh twenty twenty. it was written by my daughter caitlin quote. I wish i could go back to this day. One year ago it was the best day of my life. I gave birth to my daughter on my birthday now hers. It was the best gift anyone could ever give. Happy birthday cooper. Leyla i love you with all my heart and soul. My world is complete. Because of you i to remember that day i was two and a half hours away in the high desert of southern california. When i got the word that caitlin was headed to the hospital a few days early i jumped in the car and spent the time with my heart beating fast switching between tears. Literal tiers of worry for my daughter and labor enjoy that my baby was going to have a baby and even on our own birthday a mere thirty two years later. I'm so glad she remembers the day. So fondly i do to. The two main stories of christmas are told by two gospel. Writers disciple matthew and luke. The physician indisputably one of the greatest historians of antiquity. May many people don't know that luke's account. This event came with the benefit of numerous chats with mary. Jesus mother so you bet he got the details right and you can also bet that the others who were there and got to be part of that event while they remembered it to luke tells us that out in the desert that might where some separates his words and an angel of the lord appeared to them the glory of the lord shown around them and they were filled with great fear and the angel said to him fear. Not for both old. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Fear is not an uncommon response when people Four people when the real god shows up in real time and real space and gives us a glimpse of his glory. It's not a disney fireworks display. It's far more majestic and off field and can leave us rather discombobulated many run not liking the fear feeling exposed and embarrassed. That's unfortunate because if you run you don't hear the words fear not really. I'm faced with the living. God every secret which is avoided my parents and santa claus in my friends. And i'm not supposed to be afraid. Why the angel tells us why because i bring you good news of great julich with you mean. You weren't gonna smile me for my sins. You weren't gonna white me. You don't mean me right. And so the angel said. Didn't you hear me. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people and last i checked all might include you. Merry christmas perturbed eric. This is john bash. Go and enjoy god.

"I'm and i do start obviously with with the angel visiting Mary and Telling her you're blessed above all women you're gonna you can bear god's child. You're going to bear the savior of the world. You know in the uttar wonderment teenage girl. Who's calling say what you know and then And that's it isn't it. I mean putting that in the context we have to put it. My daughter gave birth when you know she was thirty two years old. We're talking about a girl that we're guessing was fourteen. Maybe fifteen one imagine angel showing up to anybody you know people just want to. Oh that's just couldn't really happen and tells it like none of this was like really the angel and it blew mary away very dramatic and even on theological terms we guests even who that particular angel was. We can like to play that game but yeah that was dramatic. I the thing that immediately comes to mind. I'm just maybe. Because was standing stone where i work in that were called shepherds because we work with people who work in full time ministry and and seems like god has a love affair with shepherds man. So here you got these guys in. We gotta remember. Shepherds are not the high level of society. You know they were never allow for instance to testify in court because everybody knew there was such liars. This is not the class of the culture and it's quiet in they're out there with sheep and angel shows up in we're told the glory of the lord shown around the i mean and you just stop and go wait a minute. What's that like. i mean this is. This is way more than disney fireworks. This big deal. Right and king james and they were sore afraid which means. They're so scared at hurt. He how. I made names right and some places. It's kinda hard to be titled king james language but anyway you know they're they're scared to death and then these words of grace fewer not onto born this day. It's amazing city of david. How do you take got in. I mean it's it's it's amazing gelinas. Now you don't you wonder what happened to those guys. Yeah i mean if you experienced that. Don't you think you'd say okay. I'm going to stick around and see what happens to this little baby home for the long haul mary. I'm gonna move next door please. But you have to be there. The whole story is about joseph having to go back because of a sense being taken in the land and the roman empire he had do. This was a political thing. He didn't take his wife she didn't have to go. Why did he take his wife back with him. I was suming. Because he didn't want her to have the baby without being there supporter. Now i don't know i would have been nicer if she didn't have to make that trip. Maybe but also the scripture could be fulfilled science boring clam and then that part of the story where we get into. How many things in the old testament where this was predicted like seven. It's just it's like it's so funny we get into the wise men. We could go on but i we. We had an addition to my family a few years ago when my daughter got married in and so now at our family gatherings we have my son in law and he's very a part of the family. The good news is really gets along with my son and he's a great guy but send my daughter. I said how's he feel about like family stuff in general what's his response and he even told me directly. It's the sharing side. It's the thanksgiving. We usually take time to stop and say okay. You know really thankful for it christmas time. Now we're gonna stop good so easy to get caught up in the food and the presence and the stuff but to really stop and directly even talk to one another Like a family meeting as much as just kind of catching up. How much of the family interaction do you think people learn from. At christmas time i think it can be you know hugely powerful the first question you call say what are your best christmas memories and getting parents and grandparents talking about that and You know for us. We haven't talked about this. But i will say that Christmas eve services at church you was extremely important and and we knew that we Shutdown i you know we would have a wonderful Tradition sandy my wife Christmas eve was order at all. She made hors d'oeuvres. So we just ed itself into oblivion you know with this stuff but we all knew that at eleven o'clock when the kids were old enough otherwise we'd go to an earlier we all know at eleven o'clock we would be in church worshiping and then we had a tradition That i think really was fun. Is fun is a lousy way to put it because it was so meaningful but we always had a crash the crash in the manger but the christ child was not there in the midst the presence somebody got a wrapped gift and when they opened it up it was the christ child and mood stock. The room would go silent and then we talk about. This is really what we're celebrating. We're celebrating the gift of the child of god. And so we. Would you know unwrap it. And then we would talk about the demeaning of christmas and put the child into the manger and pray and then go on with opening and no ever knew who was going to get the christ child on but it changed. It changed everything and my as my son's in laws came into the family. I think they're restricted by to. There certainly struck by all the nonsense the war against santa but they also you know the i think they..

"Said finally you know. I've had it with the santa claus and so i built an anti aircraft gun to go on the roof of the house. True story really now. The gun was a box with a couple of peavey piece. Pvc pipe sticking out of it. You know with the girls of the gun and and cerita was beside herself. Mom what are we gonna do committee. You know dad's plans never work. I wonder about neighbors. There's a seminary professor at on his room. With a with the epa christmas lights on it to to just 'cause people came in gathering the driver. What are you doing this. Acid shoot santa but it was all cleaned the game. Now you the whole christian priests will talk about in a few minutes but we we played the game and had a ball with it. And i never fretted about the kids you know. Their faith was get destroyed. Because we've played santa. It happen to me. And this is the opposite of turns but the church taught me on the swan. I came in as young pastor. And i was still in the kind of that odor. Okay you know this is what we got to be serious. Get our people really. Jesus christmas and and i'm like no no santa in church is that okay well. I haven't had a church. That knew me well enough that they basically said no had people that i let overrule me in. One of them was my music director. Who also you know dealt with the whole service. Not just the music. But he said now and So one christmas. As i'm not going to tell you what i'm going to do in one christmas in the middle of christmas eve service. Santa comes in on a motorcycle into the service of the motorcycle going. Okay so imagine the loud motorcycle coming into this room. There's santa claus and afterwards i really end the joy. I mean people just wouldn't quit talking about. I mean they'd go tell my good. Santa claus showed up on a motorcycle in the middle of the worship service. Real good in in what he pointed out to me and i had already gotten. It is no we. We make fun of santa. That's the fun part. it's it's silly. And then we switch in the service to a very holy time of remembering who was and i thought that was so healthy you know. Yeah yeah it sounds like the same thing. Yeah yeah. Because i i will tell you when we get to it. You know how we also tried to make a holy. Tell me just from an education perspective. Because i'm thinking of those. And i'm gonna mention later to You know i have a granddaughter. Who's one year old you know. I'm starting to think in the developmental stages as kids up. What did they learn. And what do they pick up when it comes to christmas. How how kids learn period you know. What are the things people can do in a family that a really picked up by the little ones. yeah I think music is especially important because music teachers and you know familiar that that they learn that At christmas time there's certain music that we listen to that. We play that we sing. And so my kids this was we weren't it was for my wife but but she loved messiah so they grew up. Listening to handel's messiah. You know every year christmas. They knew it christmas time and they started they learned truth through through the messiah and that was really significant. And then it church. They new at christmas time. We sing christmas carols in church and they were telling a story and so we always talk about that too about. Why do we sing this song christmas. you know. and it's because of the story that they're telling and This this great power that that. That's one of the things that faith is much more caught than it is taught. I think in you know in christian life in the christian family and so if the kids sensing a reality of faith in the parents that the midst of the silliness the fanta. There's also a reverence for what we're marking you know that we live two quotes. Yes louis religious visited planet. You know where regard became flesh and dwelt among us. They they pick that up at the we. We understand that thrill in if my faith is real my kids. Faith i think generally will be real also isn't isn't the sense. That story is easier to remember and actually make teach better than propositions kind of just you know i mean you can sit there and speak theological doctrine all day long but even anybody listening to this show. They're gonna remember this goof-ball professor said he got on top of his roof and pretended ever seen gun to shoot down planta now. I'm not sure what the lesson is from that. I'm not too sure notes. Actually i think it is there though the point is yeah in joy it make it make fun. Don't be the killjoy. The way the stereotype is what a someday professor would be. I never did that role to that image. You will. i think there's an insult and they're not quite what i am. Sure there is so so but let's let's let's let's switch for a second so imagine so a families trying to say. How do we do this with our kids. In one of the things really is telling the story right. I mean we have the christmas story and it was one of the historic traditions of families. Probably a previous generation. I certainly didn't have it in mind. But were they would sit down on christmas eve and they would read through the christmas story and became something that the kids even like. If it was read well. I mean reading a story though. They're they're not talking about the The incarnation in logical terms. Right to talk about a right right telling you what's remarkable you. Remember charlie brown. Christmas and towards the end of it. Linus in one of the characters tells the christian christmas story and it's so powerful and you can watch kids. Just get rid that. It's that and i think it's a i talked about the power of story. I mean scripture is dominantly story. It's the old testament is a story. Three little mill straight out preaching. It's all story Because its power in the story. And that's how i learned it. I had a friend of patchy was my pastor a long time ago. Who was coming to be christmas time. And he was really upset and he said to me. What in the world can i say. No you know everybody knows what. What do i knew. And i said tim. Now that's the point. You don't say anything to tell the story because preaching is dominantly reminding people of that which already know any remind them. I'm the story because it's a wondrous store. let's do this pairing for the fun of it. Jeff let's tell the story between you and me. Because i think sometimes when people in their own mind i mean it's kind of okay. They just picture a manger. But let's let's start in. What are the component parts of that story. Which are just amazing. I mean you wanna be film director. Don't you do what comes to mind. Frail well i think um what.

"How to christmas if i asked you to. Tell me about how you do christmas. I bet you'd start telling me about family. Traditions decorations scheduled for opening presents. Typical attendance at church services and stuff like that right now. You wanna tell me about the lights. You've put up in the midst of the pandemic in who can't travel to see whom and we are so far afield. We can't see the baby through the pine needles. But before i send you on a guilt trip which is just too easy to do. I want to ask more thoughtful question. How should we do christmas. If we want to have anything to do with the founder in my not so humble opinion anything we do regularly can get distorted by the familiarity which loves to breed contempt. Christmas comes around every year whether we like it or not. But why why is this something. We're celebrating or is it. When i was a new christian i went through what i jokingly referred to as the jehovah witness stage of questioning every tradition which is not explicitly commanded in the bible. Just because something is a tradition. Doesn't make it go to right right. If you've ever been willing to talk to a jehovah witness knocking on your door. They will explain. Why birthdays and holidays aren't worth celebrating. They may have a point. So why is the church determined for two thousand years the wrong in the holy in holy day for the birth of jesus and we like and here what can we do to put the holy into our christmas. How can we learn more about the one. Where celebrating. How can we teach our children and grandchildren. In such a way that they don't fall prey to the consumer a secularists the cynical communists or the grasping pagans in the midst of their winter festivals and chili sauces. They answered this question. We've asked back. Dr perry downs a former professor of christian education at trinity evangelical divinity school the alma mater of your host. He's real practical a foster parent over thirty blessed children and just real enough to be worth listening to welcome back to church shirts and dr perry downs. Thank you john. I really appreciate being here with you. Pair you know. I like to jump into theory. But let's just to. Which your favorite christmas memory i have to. I think i would share with your one is Just from my own childhood in that is the the wonderment of krista christmas morning Because it was all about senate and presents you know i remember getting up in the morning and seeing the tree always presence and our family tradition was. You could not open anything until parents got up and then we had to have breakfast. And then we'd come back and have to sit and look at the tree at how beautiful it was looking at all the presence of i. Finally we just do that to drive us nuts. You know we wanna do is a double backflip into the presents under the tree. We rotated around took them one at a time. But it's just it's really such joyful memories for me of my childhood in the northeast right so you probably had snow and stuff like that during christmas. Yeah i dropped. Grew up in connecticut so we would. we'd have snow quite quite a bit and so it was. It was quite quite magical The other memory though i have is With the foster kids we had twin boys. We got a two and a half years of age and Were the home been in into a half years so they had zero stability whatsoever and in fact what we did when we got them you know we forgot how in the world that we get control of his and we decided on one rule we've had one role of family and that was it and the rule was you will never guess was. We don't bite each other because they did all the time. And so my wife had The hand puppet with big teeth and the puppet would bite her on the arm and then she her finger at the pump and say no no no in this family. We don't bite and that's we'd hear them. You know. find doing that to another. No no no family. We'd don't bite and so that's how will you know. We had to do to get control of the first christmas. They never seen anything like it. and They came down christmas morning and saw his presence and set them. We gave them their gifts in the first gifts that they opened with with were rubber boots. They'd never had boots was wintertime. And so we got him boots and they went nuts over the boots. Put him on over there. Pajamas wanted to go outside. Walk in the snow and we couldn't get them back to understand you have more presence dolphin because that was beyond their comprehension but you watch the wonder and the joy those little guys you know it was. It was amazing. And i'll tell you now that they both have masters degrees ones working on his phd. Wow yeah and they came out of health. Isn't it hard not to in with a church context and that's what we deal with. Church zand the whole church and the fact that oftentimes it hurts. And i think one of the things that potentially can hurt predicted you utah in a conservative seminary. And there's the issue of those saying you know Santa's iffy i mean santa's getting in the way of the message of christmas and that has really such a divide because there are people who are here that and just roll their eyes and say you are really a freak. I mean really to even ask that question How did you deal with with santa in christian household when you're teaching other people how to teach about jesus. I can go on for a long time on this. But alex tell you that what we do. We really wrestled with that. Because there are people that said if you teach your kids santa's real and then later on they find out he's not real then they're gonna think well jesus. Is it really either. Well i think that's way too simplistic i think. Kids are pretty good at sorting. Make play from real but what we did with. My kids were little. We told them one time that we have a game that we play at christmas time in santa and we pretend that santa claus comes and brings presents and stuff and it's a really fun game and so that's what we did. You know we just. We pretended but we never reinforce it. After that we just talked about. You gotta get to bed cassandra's coming tonight. And they threw themselves into a loved it but knew in the background. It really wasn't true but as as kids got older i got we develop a tradition. Where i got really. I used to get grumpy about santa cova because it made such a mess. There were all these stupid presence. And all this wrapping paper you know. So i try to talk santa ana not common talk said. Try to convince anna not to come like started with signs. I'd make up a sign in now. No reindeer on the roof. You know no presence here. And meanwhile the kids would make other scientific. Santa welcome you know and stuff like that and it. Just escalated escalated escalated until finally One year we had we had adopted our thirtieth lost child. So my kids are all you know. We're we're in graduate school. When we adopted her new exist by that point for san diego then sorted that went out to but.

"Is we adopted a five year old or that was fun. Let's do it again. And then how good things are you do. This in you guys loved it. I mean you were loving loving loving parents and then something happened to your wife your lock to me about that. Yeah she had what was called frontal temporal degeneration. And it's the the front part of the brain is degenerating. Alzheimer's attacks the back of the brain. This attacks the front sides and it's brutal because decision making gets hampered emotional engagement gets you know limited and cognitive abilities just decline declined to cli- and So i retired Maybe a little bit quicker than i wanted to. But i wanted to wanted to stay home and take care of her made a covenant and i'm gonna keep it and so i said i promise Protect you i'm gonna take care of. You are not going to protect your dignity so she was always clean. Choose always need Smell shoes always happy. She didn't Could last ability to walk and talk and to engage.

"How should i be different because learned this. So you've got remembering and then liking it in thinking about it then. The fourth level is kind of trial. I'm going to actually try this on my life and see if it works. It's kind of a test period and some people try it out and that guy didn't work for me. Forget it other people will go. Yup this is what i want and then the final level is is Adoption when i adopted and it takes hold him it becomes part of my life. That's what i can say really learned when it's it's controlling my life and to get there it really isn't learning is no. Yeah this is you know. We don't have much time With two ways he this you know your own life you really applied in and a wish we'd get into your whole family story But at least i'll may why there's a whole lot of kids in the world who have called you father for real daddy You decide to do something. Didn't have to you know it wasn't about being a professor talk to me about that when we moved to the dividend score. We you and i were at. It's in the suburbs of chicago and it tore me up that there was such pain in the city and i'm sitting in fairly wealthy white suburb. Doing nothing i started saying. How in the world. What can we do to make an impact in the city. And i really did feel called to teaching and being the davinci school but we decided we can take a child so we started taking foster kids and we would take one and then another and then another and for is for foster parents were amateurs. We did thirty kids over the years but they quickly realized that if we got really hard cases we give to the downes family. And i don't know why but they did them. You had children White.

"Educated. People are just horrifyingly stupid writing to put it gently. I think they're not. I mean they're just ignorant self-focused in one tight area that they don't have a sense of the world and especially how to engage the broader world and Yeah i worked with a lot of people like that. I think that was one of the things that maybe you know. Maybe a bit of a rebel at the place. Because i was insistent that we have to engage the world as it actually is have to get out of our cocoons and pick our heads up our books. I used to have it kind of this image in my mind that i'd be the divinity school where i taught where i met you and to go into the library and see students for the heads varied in books and what i wanted to do will walk up behind him. Grabbing by the ears pull their face up out of the buchan say look around says a world out there and you've got to know how to engage that world. You can't just live in the library all the time. You gotta face real world issues that there is a sense for people in remembering at that stage of life. You're talking about really kit. Lada kids just getting right out of college They're like you. They feel like they had a call to the ministry and they're kind of bright eyed and bushy tailed many of them so eager about how they net kind of already know more about the bible than their peers and so they really.

"I wanted to actually want to teach in the seminary and i'd sit my classes and listen to the teachers that i thought there teaching the wrong stuff because they focused dominantly on heidi organiz sunday school. How you organize youth groups things. Like that. And i thought they're asking the wrong question. The real question is how do you grow christian. And that's what i was interested in. And how do you help. People grow in their faith. Just say what the think real people also Talk about christian education as higher education especially under even elementary schools done from a christian context from christian framework and that starts with a christian worldview and then tries to approach any discipline through that lens asking how does our understanding of god influence how we look at any particular discipline introduce you at the outset has kinda hippie like At the time remember when that was but there was a sense that you were a bit of a rabble In your own way and yet you talk about going to college were you always a goody two shoe i guess probably yes to tell you the truth. I mean as a as a young teenager. I came to face face started shaking my life a lot of questions. I went off the bible college to Try to figure out. Does it make sense to believe in the bible or not. And i sat as said. I'll give it a year and if at the end of the year. I'm not convinced. It's actually the word of god i'll and get out with my life and at the end of the first year i said. I don't think there's any other answer for this book other than it's inspired by god and then at the end of three years ago to three or diploma program to three years i was thought about what i learned and i thought i got to give my life to sharing what i've learned because to me it was so important.

"Education learning in growth. We welcome to church. Shirts and professor. Perry downs welcomed perry. Thank dr mash. It's good to be with you. Perry you've spent your life teaching in seminary but that is just not a category many of our listeners. Understand what's a seminary who goes there. Is that something like hogwarts with robes and everything not exactly. It's a graduate graduate school for people that want to go into christian ministry used a pastoral work sometimes missionary sometimes church staff work and it's a place where people come together to study in preparation for service in the church in service to the church so so give me an idea of I would say our our average listener would know what if you go to college. You you know you have history. You have business. You have literature psychology. Do you feel to study or is it just like one big long bible study. It's getting some ways. It is like a one big long bible study. A master of divinity is traditionally a three year degree. Most people squeeze it into four or five years because you included in this study is coverage of the old testament and the new testament and the inter testamentary period is well what went on between the testaments. There's also studied theology which is basically think about god rooted in in divine revelation. But there's also psychology so you can understand people better and there's educational ministries so that you know how to teach in ways that actually can touch people's lives because as we all know a lot of times especially at the church it doesn't touch lives very well and so we tried to look at that. There's also a study of lennox preach how to run a church things like that. Of course we have to mention apologetic. My second my second favorite but your specialty was christian education and explained that particularly in light of the fact that for some people actually these days in the post modern era in the post christian era. They think christianity and education are almost opposites. I heard a guy say one day that he was he was more scientific so he had a hard time believing in god so education christian education. What's your emphasis compared to the new testament old testament theology people. Yeah i have had that conversation to. I talked to not too long ago with a professor from yale college and She taught science. I don't remember what her special discipline was in the midst of the conversation i asked to do you have any place for god in her thinking and she said known really and she and she said Hot commute think. About god. I said i don't have enough faith to be an atheist because i take it to fix an incredible amount of faith to think that you know the world around us just happened i i think i figure principal creator but anyway.

"He just he signed an amazing. The money. That's the sweetest Palomar Mab. That's there. It is in Simpson Rapper INS. That might be I say that so often and quota I did blue bloods. Simpson's check them off. I don't know why I say that's the sweetest plum so much as it never applies to merchandising. That quote works well. I'm going home now. Sinar so Then we have seen Dr Perry's being forced to make more us. I mean while the guys go back into the sewers to find a new home and Michaelangelo leaves April O'Neil with the Humphrey Bogart pression. That sounds more like JFK. She's really others. Kids rarely seen Casablanca tests and striking striking that iron man. This kid's our kids are crazy for Casablanca shows on foot. The probably the the writers just had like this weird list like how. How can we put Ralph Nader and and Casablanca in this movie and make? It seem like normal. We can't just throw it in there. It's like some form of that South Park Joke About Family Guy Right. We're just you know the thing just chooses to random. I get there wanting to be jokes for adults that are going to be stuck in this movie. But they're so few and as far between they're so specific and there's this movie is obviously being made with the idea in mind. This is going to be directed towards children that they just come. Come off as I misplaced right and even for if I if I were if I were an adult in that theatre. That doesn't is in tickle. My funny bone. Why why would I think that's funny? Yeah you make sexual innuendos that no kids can get. The parents will romantic. They said that My kid didn't realize what they're talking about those the jokes that work in these kinds of these kinds of things like it goes blow job right. Yeah I mean Dan. ackroyd is just pulling from his own life experience. Yeah we'll say that Scott goes blowjobs before has he he been on record as saying that I bet you. US Dan Ackroyd V.. Ever gotten a blowjob from goes to you would say absolutely one hundred Percent Crystal Crystal Skull. Vodka doc will say anything before he's allowed to say that and as far as I know he ends every sentence by Crystal Skull L. Vodka. That's I hope I never meet him then. Really Weird if he shows up in the new ghostbuster movie only line I and he's just holding a bottle of it like what are you. What are you doing Ed? Nothing just holding my My crystal by the fact okay. Well can you help us with these goes. Sure can't but I can't get drunk. Oh attribute that was the only way he agreed to appear so raft for some reason gets mad about trying to find a place to stay okay and storms off the street level and Mike. He falls down a hidden all on sewer and they found abandoned subway station. That's still has power. Looks like the perfect place to stay by this time I am. Perry has created to use monsters. They're still incubating and April has a fight with her news. Manager played by Michael Pressman than director but then he calls April April. Her office told the they found a place but also tells her that they're looking for Raff. 'cause he stormed off and is now currently missing and it. It's the sad part about about the April O'Neil seen is that The what they're trying to get across they're probably very much still takes place in newsrooms today. That's why we're like. Oh you can't that'd be the hard hitting news lady here swimsuit thing to do for ratings. Yeah that's true. Yeah movie is shining just a mirror to the news. In after I it was bombshell before. Came out hardening The way you read the way that you just laid out that part of the movie was very bland. And that's because it is super bland like none. That is exciting. There's just a whole gap or just nothing cool happens yeah. I'm just trying to get trying to get through the boring parts. Quick Yeah I and they just say a bunch of weird things keep saying radical and bodacious and pizza kids want kids want so shredders uis monsters grow and he orders them out other cages to meet their master they come out and they think he is their mother and that's when shredder says his famous line. Dan they're baby ebby. That's that's probably the best line in the movie and then Dr Perry's he's just like well. They're they're babies but you know they're infants will grow up and then he says well they're stupid babies as we know stupid babies. He's need the most attention. Boom I love it. I saw I saw him in a mile away but they are superstrong regardless Keno shows up at the foot clan. Recruitment meeting with Michael Giwa and Ralph is their rafts. There helping them so Kina goes through. Some trials ghosted some standard martial-arts matches than he hasn't his impossible bell removal tests. Knoller foot soldier ever succeeded. As far as I'm concerned Raft helps awesome. beat it and then he goes to the junkyard. HQ Craft shows up a meet and says hey great Keno where it is and then immediately gets caught like thank goodness. You would probably didn't have a plan for getting caught Keno. Should've just punched him in the face. Ace kept US cover. Hey look what I found. You would think that a half ton turtle would be able to hide him so a little a little bit better but they light it right but the the best part about is he's able to sneak around in the room with obviously there's the smoke up there but he's still able to move around all of them without making a sound and then he just stands in the middle right out out in the open. People are training five feet away from them since the this is the perfect place to meet guys good Jabal what because he didn't listen to splinter when he says never forget. Get who you are was a giant obvious. Turtle Luckier Yeah. I'm trying to remember I. I've seen the first movie movie a bunch of times are they. Are they really sneaky in the first movie to. I know they try to be at least in this one. I think it's just they throw caution to the wind lend here. The only thing I remember is doesn't Raff run off in that movie too. Yeah he he has beef the beef in the first one with Leonardo make sense. This is just. He's being a little bitch. I'm tired of looking for a place to live okay. Sorry I'm I'M GONNA leave. You've why because I don't WanNa look anymore. Oh overpasses asleep. Under and in two seconds later they find the fucking place place forced so rafter tails keynotes leave until the others KENO runs back. Lack runs all the way back from Brooklyn to Abel's apartment record time talk son is still up which that probably didn't have Thankfully Giuliani New York. So a guy ring a bell and yelling random names at a door. Didn't didn't alert anybody on. Oh No not at all. That was like the village to. So you know there's some crackhead living next April so The guys go to the junkyards rescue raff guards here. And there they find raft tied up and then get cotton. Ralph Nader's rope trap Michelangelo. I enjoy spring a trap the precise time they would do it is and that was supposed to be a funny Joe First of all. Why is he wearing a watch phones back then the giant turtle have first of all? How do you find a wash that fits you second? It really has no. It's it's not useful for a giant turtle and they'd have to go fine to wear James Gandolfini got his watches to soon. But anyway you don't make fun of the patron saint of New Jersey all right so rather than just kill them while they're in the net shredder devises a plan to slowly bring the rope trap over to a series of pointy tools. And then just drop it on them and then at the last minute sponsor shows up she served with the era and they escaped the trap before. Route the Ralph Nader. GYP comes up again. Do they know just enough just enough time for the Ralph Nader Jokes So the guys despite the foot clan again and then eventually they fight Toca and Raza Razor store. Batteries are Show and the the turtles are obviously outmatched and Dining gets tossed about one hundred yards and crash lands or duck period being held and Mike he finds a manhole cover and the turtles girls escape. What Dr Perry down the sewers and Toca tries to follow him down the down the manhole cover and he gets stuck? So then they Margaritas is that happened. And then Dr they take duck period back to their their hideout and he tells them all about the history of the US and T. G. R.. I and more or less. He just tells them that. oops you guys are here because of just just someone's mistake dying doesn't take your well. That's basically all that data has essential crisis. He does have an existential crisis for this is the only time time has the existential crisis. Never comes up again yeah. He gets over fairly quickly. Yes but we were special and your giant talking turtle your special uh-huh Freak but you're still special. No one likes this movie. It drives me up a fucking wall. Then shredder takes. Token raise are out on the streets of New York City to wreak havoc. They bust up Some cars they bust up some telephone telephone poles which fun facts. New York City has had all utility wires underground since the blizzard of eighteen. Eighty eight just the fact that you wanted the point of fact. Yeah well and also they they really you know. shredder makes the the threat that if the turtles don't turn themselves in. He'll keep doing this so I mean they may be cost the city two thousand dollars worth of damage image. There was like I was watching it and I was like. Oh they're not gonNA tell polls and it was just like I don't think bowls are existed New York Eric City. Not that I've seen just trying to think I've I've looked up plenty of times when I worked near. I've never seen just like a a stream of wires above my head. Of course you have to have the token New Yorkers Julio we've seen everything you know like look there's a giant Dog In turtle tearing down the telephone wires alone them get their own cab- Coal whole those New Yorkers nothing fazes them. Yeah it's kind of antisemitic too early. anti-semitism Yep there they were Michelle. Everyone's a little Neb itchy like susie. Asthma is kind of shrill. You pick up on certain things founding leader and that's why you're the leader we pay you the big bucks So then the next morning the police chief addresses a few reporters including April role in a scene has absolutely no effect on anything. No and I mean I I really sided with the police chief because again this could have really been anything that knocked over a poll going on these poll should be here. Wires ars been underground since eighteen. I think I'm out of my jurisdiction right now. Where am I so the only thing that comes out of this one is that Freddie and added reveals himself April has a foot member says shredder as a message for her for the turtles which doesn't really happen now? We're not got should've just taken her hostage. He should as revealed himself and the other way maybe should have been battled it now. She's zoos along. Yeah COBWEBS CBS man. Four turtles live on whether he's man but only in the The would rocket Parents Johnny Bench way not long Johnathan just adding to the Black Day of baseball. We've gotta just come every episode. We should come up with one More Euphemism for female masturbation. We've already had Jilin off Johnny Bench. That's your department. Let's say all all right. Well we'll keep that as my okay I can. I can handle that Honestly because you're you're way faster with it than they could ever be all right so she goes to the turtles and she meets with them. Tell that shredder demands them to meet the docks or sick token raise are on the public and Dr Perry things. There's a way that he could create a reversal antidote to turn token raise our back to their original versions so they cook it up. Make it and it has to be ingested like like well how we're going to get that decides on Ice Cubes and how are we going to get the data like he's got an idea because Mike is always the one that you.
