Dr. Oz Doesn't Want to Release Dangerous Prisoners Into the Streets
"The Senate will go the way of the Pennsylvania Senate race. The race is tightening. John fetterman is raising money like crazy. Let's play a piece of tape here and then we'll get doctor Ross response, play cut 71. We have catastrophic bottleneck in our prisons of over 5000 men and women condemned to die in prison. And many of them, I believe, personally, are deserving of a second chance. Doctor Oz, your response. My problem is when you say draconian things like I'm going to get a third of the prisoners out or I don't want to have life sentences anymore for convicted murders. You're taking a lot of large S, you're claiming a lot of power that should be left to juries and judges. That's why they put these people in jail. I mean, one person that he's released was called the son of the devil. He accused some of his people, the folks would testify against him of being liars, and then said he was going to kill them. I mean, this is that kind of person you let back out again. He actually said he killed other people besides the person he was convicted of. Now, they probably with John fetterman is he doesn't deal with the ramifications of these cool statements, he makes. He tweets them out, 140 characters, and then he can't stand by and defend them, which is the reason why he's ducking the base. Now, he might, because he claims he's healthy, might just be wisely staying away from me because he knows I'm going to ask you a tough question. Because what we do in campaigns. But he also just might be sick in which case he's been lying about that. Either way, it's not democratic to avoid entering all questions.
Dr. Oz Condemns 'Medical Transition of Minors'
"Doctor Oz, I want to clear up one piece of confusion here and this is something that I've talked to you about. And it's just in the spirit of trying to get people clarity, which is your position on medical procedures for children. Using medical media more specifically with trans kids. Let's put this issue to rest. What is your position on this topic? I'm not in favor of miners having these procedures. On my show, which was as you know, a network television show. For 13 years, a top show in the world on health, you have to have people from all different perspectives come on. But just because talks about a topic doesn't mean that I agree with their position. My job is to give voice, which is what I did. But I've been pretty clear on this issue. And I've been strongly supportive of using science to drive our decisions. Not the version of science, not the weaponization of science, but actually what does it say to us? What does it advice for us to do? In the case of transgender issues, it's very much, I believe, supportive of not telling 5 year olds. Because I teach algebra to a 5 year old, they're not going to get it. I have similar feelings about energy policy where we have literally told people the Green New Deal is based on science. When it's not, if you actually look at the details of it, there's zero chance. They can achieve what they said to do in the Green New Deal. And they definitely can't do it in the timeline allowed it. And just one step further, the only way to get close to it right now is a cell America to China, which we're not doing. So let's fix our problems. Let's address the opportunities we have because we've got so much natural gas and Pennsylvania. For example, I can supply the whole country for 200 years. Let's use clean sources of energy while we build up those green sources. And that's I think the path forward. It's not one that's harmful to the environment quite the opposite. If you look at what's happening in California, you get a better perspective. And I'll leave you one last example, COVID. That really got me upset because as a physician, I knew this area well, I recognized that we were being lied to. Literally told, for example, that our kids should be sent home from schools because it's too dangerous to open the schools, but other countries kept their schools open. They didn't seem to have a problem. They love their kids.
Dr. Oz Describes How His Family's Journey Lead Him to Run For Senate
"An incredibly important Senate race happening in Pennsylvania. Against a very, very dangerous person. Against John fetterman. And Doctor Oz is running as the Republican in Pennsylvania and he joins us right now. Doctor Oz welcome to the program. It's good to be with you. Thanks for all you're doing. You bet. Thank you. So tell us about yourself. You're running one of the most critical Senate races right now in America against, as I said, one of the most dangerous people will get into fetterman in a second. But tell us about yourself and why you're running for office. Charlie, my father was an immigrant. He grew up in a dirt floor, and he knew the other way out of that farming community was to get an education. So that's what he got. A scholarship. At the time, the United States government was very wisely looking for top graduates in his case for medical school, and they recruited him to come to this country. And when he landed on these shores, he thought this was unbelievable. The American Dream is real. And uniquely real in the United States. So you know if you worked hard, if you served his fellow American, if he served America, he would become an American. And that's the American Dream that I grew up believing as well, which is why every single day of my life I worked as hard as I can. I thought it was an obligation, but also a gift from this great country. And I'm running in part to make sure that that American Dream stays untarnished as it's passed from generation and generation. But you and I both noticed in many listeners as well. And I am optimistic as you highlight. Keep your head up because there's so much good going out there. And so much awakening that's happening. But there are members of the radical left fringe of the Democratic Party. It's not even most Democrats who don't believe in the American Dream. And they have waged an all out war on the fundamental assumptions that I always thought were the common beliefs of most Americans. And that's the big battle that we're waging. And the
Dr. Oz: John Fetterman Doesn't Like Defending His Radical Record
"Listen you're classier guy than I am I don't know man I don't have that guy on my shoulder telling me what not to say I got to be honest with you You don't have to comment if you don't want But I'm really tired of the act with this guy I genuinely haven't gone through a health crisis myself genuinely and sincerely feel for a you know a cousin of mine who had a devastating stroke at a young age although those kind of that blood loss to the brain can result in some serious problems and I wish him the best but the hard reality is nobody forced him to run for Senate And if you're going to claim on one hand that you don't want to debate which what he's doing is he didn't really agree to what the I'm glad you just exposed him He's like okay I'll debate after the election when I win He didn't really agree to debate So he's saying he wants to debate while not debating but then he's saying he has the ability to go to the Senate floor to debate the most significant issues of our time and do it effectively on behalf of Pennsylvania Those arguments are zero sum That doesn't make sense you know You can't have it both ways Well he wants to have it both ways He says he's helping up to debate but he doesn't want to do them And I think it's because he's really bad at debates He doesn't like defending his radical record which it's easy to talk about policy on Twitter You put a 140 characters out there and you don't defend it And when it doesn't work out you can duck right I'm not going to let him do that But in fairness if his health isn't there he's been lying to us even lying about his health This is my story straightforward I mean I'll know this My dad was an immigrant grew up in a dirt floor worked his tail off to become a medical student was recruited to America lived the American Dream My whole life has been not realizing if you work hard for your fellow American help America you get to be an American It's pretty cool And it's the only place on the planet really that does this which is why hundreds of millions of people try to get into our country And yet federman and radicals on the left this is not Democrats They're moderate Democrats don't like this guy The radical left side of the party has lost its bearing It's become unhinged They don't believe in the American Dream They don't believe in the American people They don't
Dr. Oz: John Fetterman Refuses to Answer Questions From Anyone
"Doctor right So the first thing I do is I listen and I see my ideas work Here's what our ideas have given us in Pennsylvania And you don't want this where you left We have the highest homicide rate ever in Philadelphia We'll break the record this year from last year We have the largest open air drug market in the country in Philadelphia City blocks at the city of Washington You can't go down because people have needles taken out of their necks You must say heroin injection sites by the way which is partly led to this These strongly feels that we have sanctuary cities that we have the highest expense that will only go straight right here now And across Pennsylvania the number three state in the country with Benton overdoses because of these wheat policies So how can you possibly defend it You can't That brings me to issue number two He's refusing to answer any questions Literally imagine that in a democracy you could be a candidate for the United States Senate the greatest deliberative body in the world And refused to answer questions He won't answer questions from the press He won't take questions on his campaign tours which he rarely goes to anyway And he has refused to debate me He just recently said he would come to a debate but at a future draft No specifics I've agreed to three debates in September 3 and October early voting starts this month in Pennsylvania He's insulting the voters of Pennsylvania by dodging this requirement and is starting to hurt him It's why the polls have closed dramatically and despite the fact he's had a huge war chest from the coast from elitists who don't understand the dire risks that our nation would face He wants to bust a filibuster Think about that No filibuster pack the Supreme Court add more states The worst nightmare for everybody and yet people are still supporting him
Dr. Oz: John Fetterman's Reality Is Embarrassing
"It's a Pennsylvania race in the sense Obviously on these citizens of Pennsylvania can vote But it's not I mean you could be the 51st vote on everything from immigration policy to tax policy to an extension of the Trump tax cuts I mean this is a pivotal race and the problem here is that this is in marginal differences Doc It's not like wow it's a Kirsten cinema Joe Manchin type versus that's not what's going on here You have a guide to the left of Bernie Sanders and fetterman who's never had a job in his life Running to be the U.S. senator who could be deciding U.S. national policy This is a national race Well you're into the reality of his life It's a little bit embarrassing that he would be the potential Senate candidate from the Democratic Party Forget about from the Commonwealth The Democrats didn't want them They tried to block them and they were one vote short of endorsing his opponent who was a more centrist Democrat but this guy said if you like Joe Manchin don't vote for me because I'm not working with the moderate Democrats I definitely am not working with Republicans He is AOC on steroids Bernie Sanders by the way of endorsed each other called each other the two most progressive candidates in America Once the destroy all private healthcare But I don't even talk about that Because the main issue that's come up right now is the fact that he is advocating for anyone who takes the law pretty much The fraternal order of police endorsed the unanimously because they do test them so much He went through at least one third of all prisoners from our jails He believes in legalizing all drugs and then I'm going to tell you why that's important in a second He once also by the way open borders sanctuary cities All of the predictable things He really drew mentioned was wrong to hold back Joe Biden and they should have spent recklessly billions more which would of course worsen the 40 year inflation in all of us are suffering from But in
Dr. Oz: John Fetterman's Money Is Coming From CA & NY Liberals
"This is balancing on a razor's edge The candidates there you probably know at this point a Republican side of document Oz and on the Democrat side is lieutenant governor fetterman Joining us today for the first time on the radio show doctor mehmed Oz Doctor Oz thanks for spending some time with us We appreciate it And I appreciate all you're doing and I'll be here for you because you're helping me get the word out about what you just pointed to and I'll just stay up front because I know your national The reason John sediment is a big tougher of money is because California and New York liberals do not know what we're about to teach you So if you're frustrated by and you will be Doctor Oz dot com is our website come support us But we need to get the word out to everybody that the people they're supporting are dangerous for the country not just Pennsylvania
John Fetterman Chickens out of a Debate Against Dr. Oz
"You remember, president Trump, when he was in office, what did he do? He took one of these things and he aced it just to, he thought, make the left wing babblers shut up. Now of course they didn't because they're inherently bad people. But do you think Joe Biden could take something like that? If you're in Pennsylvania, John fetterman who's running for the U.S. Senate is recovering from a stroke. Now, I don't particularly like John fetterman. He seems to me to be a bully, a loudmouth, left wing bully who lived off his parents until he was what? 40, 45 years old? But he's now chickened out of a debate with Doctor Oz. He claims it's because he's recovering from the stroke and it just wouldn't be fair now Doctor Oz who happens to be a real doctor honest to goodness. Said, well, sure. I mean, we'll make all sorts of allowances if he's going to run to the men's room or he's got to do this. He's got to do that. You know, we don't want him to be uncomfortable or anything else, man. We do everything that's right. Fetterman still chickened out. And I don't know how far left Pennsylvania has gone since I grew up there many decades ago. But even those folks, even if you're on the far left of Pennsylvania, don't you have to be looking at this going, yeah, he's just not up for the job.
John Fetterman Dodges Questions on Economy
"The audience, I say contrast my first two questions, one lighthearted one very serious. Doctor Oz's responses, which he quite well used to get to his core themes with last night's conversation between my old colleagues and NBC, Stephanie ruhle and John fetterman. Let's play cut number 16 plays the last cut. They've got 16. How do you serve all Pennsylvania voters? It's a very big state, right? Think about western PA in Pittsburgh where the economy was thriving before COVID filled with tech companies and universities. There's probably all sorts of people. There are thrilled about student debt forgiveness. But go 30 minutes outside to beaver county, where there's likely voters who are saying, I just want a good kindergarten. I want a good 5th grade. How do you serve both voters? We've got a complicated economy. People want very different things. I just think people need to understand what and be able to recognize what their lives are really like. And we believe and we know that we actually do that very important too. And living in western Pennsylvania, living across the street, having the way we're having this interview right now. Right across from a steel mill. We have to understand that we all can't work at Google or we can't all be working at a hospital. We have to make sure that we are making more stuff here in Pennsylvania and in America, and we also have to make sure that we have to make sure that we address to an obscene minimum wage and how can we now running for the Senate and you own ten homes and you are not unwilling to raise a minimum wage above $7 and $25 an hour.
Dr. Oz and the American Dream
"Got a long list. I gotta start though with a caller from yesterday. I was talking about you being on. And he's angry that you kept your dual citizenship and that you served in the Turkish army. I looked it up. I've seen your answer. You're going to surrender your dual citizenship. You served in the Turkish army in order to keep your citizenship to be able to take care of your mom in turkey. Why is that still an issue, Doctor Oz, it's asked an answer. I tell you, it's raised by democratic opponents. These are clearly a tax that are designed to undermine confidence in my ability to serve, but there's no issue here. I think I can love my mom and love my country as well. Turkey was a NATO country when I was a young man. We got permission for me to serve so that I could be able to visit my family. You can't even go back in those days to the country if you didn't serve and make a lot of countries as mandatory service. But I said, I'm proud of what I've done in my life. I'm a product of the American Dream. My father was born in a dark floor in turkey and educated on scholarship and America very wisely said, we need people from other countries who have been educated, recruited my dad to come here. And my dad knew the deal was simple. You worked your tail off? Serve your fellow American. You'll be an American. And he succeeded in thanks to his being embraced by America. I've had an unbelievable life and it's one of the reasons I want to be the next senator from Pennsylvania is because I think some Americans have forgotten the brilliance of the Americans, and the promise that the world has held high because America made it feasible. And I want to make sure that grandeur remains.
Ruhle Lobs Softballs To Fetterman
"You watch Stephanie rules interview that's in quotes because it wasn't live, I believe it was edited. I'm not sure. Did you watch that yet? I saw clips of it. And there's some sentences. I just didn't follow. I think he's impaired. And I believe Stephanie was doing, you know how it's easy to give fall into a softball interview when you feel sorry for someone. You give them the answer and the question. Can I play this for Brett, please? Sure. Brett Barrett cut number 16. How to serve all Pennsylvania voters. It's a very big state, right? Think about western PA in Pittsburgh where the economy was thriving before COVID, filled with tech companies and universities. There's probably all sorts of people. There are thrilled about student debt forgiveness, but go 30 minutes outside to beaver county, where there's likely voters who are saying, I just want a good kindergarten. I want a good 5th grade. How do you serve both voters? We've got a complicated economy. People want very different things. I just think people need to understand and be able to recognize what their lives are really like. And we believe and we know that we actually do that very important too.
It's a Twitter World After All
"Baier is, I think, the most respected journalist in the United States on the network news every single night and he's got a heck of a job between now and the election picking what to cover. Bret our colleague and friend Britt Hume is getting dragged on the Internet this morning because he just raised a question. What if the FBI arranged those documents at Mar-a-Lago? What is it with people on the web? That's a legitimate question. Yeah, it is you. Listen, the Twitter sphere is really interesting depending on where your point of view is. And people pipe up about all kinds of things. I think Brits just asking questions as he does. He's an active Twitter user. And it's interesting to see the pushback. Well,
How Is John Fetterman Ahead 12 Points Against Dr. Oz?
"Here's this guy, this John fetterman. This is the lieutenant governor. Now, this is a difficult race between doctor ra and fetterman is apparently a head ten, 12 points. How is that possible? In Pennsylvania. How is that humanly possible? The poor guy had a stroke and apparently nearly died. And nobody wants that for anybody. I don't care about his politics. He's a guy who is a family, his family loves him, his friends. I feel sorry for anybody out there shuffling around trying to run for something like U.S. Senate and the poor guy can't even really speak coherently. This is a hard, hard thing he's going through. And so maybe people feel sorry for him. Is that why he's ahead ten, 12 points in the poll?
Dr. Oz's Team Reacts to Fetterman Struggling Through a 5-Minute Speech
"Cousin fester, who's in a hoodie and survived a stroke. Could barely get through a 5 minute speech yesterday? Yesterday's baker. Oh, nothing. I'm listening. So he couldn't get through the speech, the poor guy is like, he's not there. His brain was clearly damaged by the stroke. And we're not mocking the poor guy. But anyway, Doctor Oz's campaign did. And they're very upset about this. So the Oz campaign senior communications adviser, her name is Rachel Tripp. And she said, if John fetterman had ever eaten a vegetable in his life, then maybe he would not have had a major stroke and would not be in the position of having to lie about it constantly. It's a fair point. I mean, have you seen the guy this, I mean, he's got the hoodie on, always wearing the cargo pants, shorts. He's got these little chicken legs, and he's a big guy. And clearly he is not well. But the Democrats don't care, they seem to think that they can run a stroke victim for the U.S. Senate and right now he's ahead of Doctor Oz.
More Conservatives Hate on Dr. Oz Than Fetterman
"The Democrat party hates this country It is nefarious in what it does And how it does it Remember the dossier and all the rest of it I won't waste your time going through it all They're full of dirty tricks And a lot of their tricks are done in the openness of the day right in front of your face And it involves the media Because the media as you know from unfreedom of the press and we've talked about endlessly are nothing more than a mouthpiece For American Marxism the home of which is the Democrat party So when you look at a state like Pennsylvania and Doctor Oz don't you find it strange That some conservatives seem to be more against Oz and they are the Democrat running against him fetterman Federman is an extremist Pennsylvania is not an extremist state Other extremists in Philadelphia and silver but the state as a whole is not the most extreme and radical aspects of Philadelphia It's got 11 12 million people And Pennsylvania is a very diverse state Racially ethnically in terms of religion people's backgrounds Pennsylvania could be three different states in that respect People of Pennsylvania as a whole support the death penalty The people in Pennsylvania as a whole oppose abortion on demand There is a significant Catholic presence And Pennsylvania Significant
Rep. Reschenthaler Predicts Dr. Oz Will Win in Pennsylvania
"What has happened in Pennsylvania for the Senate. Dear lord, this is your state. I understand that president Trump is friends with Doctor Oz and I get it and I realize he's a dear friend of Trump and he's supported Trump. Was there really no better candidate than Doctor Oz? I'm not saying he's a bad guy. I'm just saying he's got the name recognition, which is great. But he's somehow wrestling with fetterman. He should be Oz should be up by 10,000 points. I don't understand it. What are you doing? Two great points. Oz was the only one in that race that could have gone toe to toe with betterment. And here's why. I've been saying the betterment's totally underrated. He has a star power around Pennsylvania. Unites these burning Bros with working class voters who wrongfully think that he's one of them because they see him tatted off with a beard wearing a hoodie riding a Harley and they just assume that he shares our values. He does not. So to overcome that fundraising ability to overcome that celebrity, we really needed Doctor Oz, any other candidate we would have put forward would have been even further behind in the polls. And it's a little bit of revisionary history to go back and say we should have picked another candidate because all this is the only guy that can keep better men. I think that ultimately Oz wins this race by a slim margin. Remember tuni only won by one or two points each time he won that Senate race. This Pennsylvania after all. And he's going to do it by exposing the settlement hypocrisy. This is a guy that wants to release one third of all prisoners in Pennsylvania. This is a guy that wants to have the Green New Deal and totally eviscerate the natural gas economy. We have particularly around Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania. And don't forget that he wants to eliminate private health insurance. So this guy's way too radical, Pennsylvania I'm sorry, Mary. No, no, no, I
Corny Koehl Can't Understand the About Turn in Dr Oz
"You got to talk to me about Doctor Oz, so you executive produced for executive produce, so I was the executive producer for Oprah radio when they launched initially. It was called Oprah and Friends in 2006 on XM, and then XM and Sirius drew together. And I oversaw that whole channel. And so yeah, I had a lot of interactions with Doctor Oz, we also took his show on the satellite and we took it terrestrially as well. And he was lovely. You know, I really have nothing negative to say. Doctor. He's on record saying it is not a heartbeat at 6 weeks before. Now, what happens to these people? Were they have to become right wing science denying lunatics? Even doctors like him. Right, right. And just bending over for yes. The former guy is just a stunning, I never would have seen it. And another person that I E peed for was Lisa is. So when mamet had a show on The Oprah channel, Lisa did as well, and it was a weekly show and it was very spiritually oriented. And I can't fathom being super spiritual and thinking, okay, a 100% against abortion is a good thing. It blows my mind.
Compared to Fetterman, Dr. Oz Cares About Big Conservative Issues
"dr oz" Discussed on On The Media
"It's the Brian ler show on WNYC. Good morning, again, everyone. Doctor mehmet Oz. Yes, we're going to talk about Doctor Oz, who we haven't in this whole election cycle, or maybe ever come to think of it on the brain lyric show. The Turkish American heart surgeon who hosted a popular daytime TV show for many years, right? In case you missed it over the weekend, he is now officially the GOP Senate candidate in Pennsylvania after the recount, his opponent conceded. He has Trump's endorsement as many of you know. And one reason the doctor was so popular despite the many critics who say he promotes unscientific therapies and alleged cures is his many appearances on Oprah Winfrey's long running daytime talk show. So joining me now are historians Kelly Jackson, who is a Professor of African studies at wellesley, and Leah Wright regor, who's a Professor of history at Johns Hopkins. They are co hosts of a new podcast called Oprah demics like Oprah and academics, got it. They have a special episode now called The Oprah Oz conundrum in which they explore Oprah's role in giving Doctor Oz a platform what he became, and they asked whether or not she has any responsibility to speak out against his candidacy for Senate if she opposes it or thinks he's been a quack or whatever she thinks about him now. So doctor Jackson, doctor regar, welcome to WNYC. Thank you. Thanks for having us. Yes, thank you. Listeners wondering if anybody in Pennsylvania or with ties to Pennsylvania is listening and has an opinion about Doctor Oz's candidacy. Do you know if anyone who voted for him and why if you didn't yourself or if we have any Oprah fans or doctor Oz TV medicine level fans politics aside, what do you want to say about either of these daytime TV stars and did Oprah give you a kind of Oprah seal of approval for Doctor Oz once upon a time to check your opinion of him? Two one two four three three WNYC two one two four three three 9 6 9 two or tweet at Brian lehrer. Now since you host this podcast together, I'm going to let you two sort out. Who's better positioned to answer which question? But give us the deep background on Doctor Oz because maybe some of our listeners don't even know that before he was a staple on Oprah Winfrey daytime show. He was a surgeon at Columbia University with a very good reputation as a heart surgeon. So how did Oprah meet Doctor Oz and what sort of impression did he make on her? So Oprah's Oprah's sister with doctor as goes back pretty far in 2002, Doctor Oz has his own show. Before the Doctor Oz show, he has his own show called second opinion with Doctor Oz, where he brings on celebrities and talks to them about health or their bodies. And his very first guest is Oprah Winfrey. And so when Oprah meets him, she's so impressed by his sort of knowledge and affable personality that she says, why don't you come on to my show and talk to my audience about some of these same ideas and topics. And Doctor Oz doesn't just come on one time, he comes on dozens of times. He becomes a real fixture in the latter sort of years of the show. He brings on organs like lungs, a heart or omentum, and talks about the body in so many different ways. And it really puts him on a map. I mean, it explodes his platform as all things to happen when Oprah puts you on her show. Right. And that's, by the way, listen to doctor Jackson, who is speaking. They're just so you can tell our guests apart. So for people who are totally unfamiliar, we're going to play a clip that you pulled for your podcast episode an example of Oprah with Doctor Oz, we will hear Oprah first and then Doctor Oz introducing an organ called and omentum. Doctor says there's something inside of us that we all have that plays a key role in making us fat. So what is and do some of us have it more than others? Some of us have more than others. I must have more than this. But what is that thing? Well, there's an organ that you have inside of you. We're going to teach a little bit of vocabulary today. This is a critical part of it called the omentum. This organ literally pumps chemicals into your body. And it holds the secrets. Doctor Oz is sort of doing characteristic Doctor Oz, when she is up on stage with Oprah and he has a table with blue napkins over it and then he turns over the napkin to reveal the organ, whether it's a heart or whether it's a part of someone's stomach. Where is it? Where is it in your body? It's actually hooked up to your stomach, but I did better. I brought you some. Yeah. Now. Come on. A little omentum never hurt anybody. Come on. All right, with a little insertion from one of you there and your podcast. And that stretch, you bring up how Doctor Oz presents himself on the show. So what do you want to say, professor McGregor, maybe we'll turn to you for this one about the showmanship and the theatrics of his appearances and how that might translate to politics. So I think the showmanship and the very real charisma that Doctor Oz demonstrates is part of what sells him to America. It's what makes him America's doctor. So certainly there's the anointing by Oprah Winfrey, but there's also there has to be something there. There has to be something that people are attracted to. And he's also relying on the fact that he's not just a medical doctor, but he's a medical doctor with multiple degrees who has been celebrated in his field and is a respected surgeon and teacher at Columbia University. So he is all the accolades. He has the showmanship he is the charisma, and he is the expertise, at least in his field. What we don't differentiate between them and I think we struggle in Kelly and I talk a lot about this on the show, is this idea that simply because you're an expert in one area. Does that mean that you are an expert in another area? And part of what we see is that Doctor Oz relies on that that expertise in areas of heart. In order to make very big and oftentimes faulty claims in other areas. And what we're seeing now is that his performative, this performative politics, this very deeply charismatic, this TV doctor, but also with a level of expertise, is being extended in order for him to make pronouncements again, oftentimes faulty pronouncements about the world of politics. And what we're also seeing here, though, is that it's working, or at least it's working in the Republican primary. You want to take a step back and talk about the concept of your podcast series, Oprah demics. Why are you applying your academic credentials and understanding of social science to.

"Like apes can save their lives. I am aware that i eat is bad for my health. And i want to be around for as long as possible for my kids to make sure they follow the diet. The volunteers monitored twenty four seven. The head keeper is a registered dietitian. Who will carefully select and way all the fruits and vegetables. They will make up the volunteers diets for the next twelve days to get the calories. They need each volunteer. We'll have to eat eleven pounds of raw vegetables and nuts every single day. Have you ever seen a piece of land. So this is very first time day after day and night after night. The volunteers keep away and the extra plant fiber is doing. Its job but the real test is measured in vital. Statistics is the evolutionary diet. Making the volunteers more healthy away so they would have to eat eleven pounds of raw fruits and vegetables a day that amazing a lot of food so that is a lot of food and it's fills you actually bolts you up. Which is why. This kind of approach makes a ton of sense. Is this eleven pounds. This is okay. So it's blueberries carrots nuts. Bananas peppers broccoli mushrooms. Radishes green beans cucumbers. Okay what were the results. But we found was a reduction in their cholesterol numbers by twenty five percent after how many days for ten days after ten days he imagined that audio amazing we use drugs. Yeah and don't get that kind of a benefit. Yeah frustrates many of us in medicine. Because you actually hold the solution yourself. Wow we make it through drugs if you don't move pass cholesterol. Let's talk about high blood pressure. Ten percent reduction in high blood pressure as well and from from this group from this group. Wow guess what. They lost ten pounds. But you don't care about pounds you care you care about weight. Lost waste the. Why is that because when you eat this kind of food you studying a very clear message to your brain. You're taking calories and nutrients or we normally do in america. Is we give calories that people without nutrition. The food in america is stripped and processed. And so all the fiber and all the nutrients are out of a lot of it. The natural colors gone. Yeah so your brain sits back there and says am i still hungry or not. I got a lot of calories and so when you realize that you can break schizophrenic attitude. I just feeding your brain nutrients with calories. Don't count calories count nutrients if there's nutrition in the food. You're not gonna build eat any more than that and then you try to take down one day. It's tough i know this is. It'll be hard to eat all of this so the first of all if you just eat one of this you just feel like this sitting on this for about and you very full do they have. They didn't have salt either right. That's a great point nine to take the solve on my diet. Because i've history of high blood pressure in the family managed to do that and not be on medication. It's fantastic isn't a remarkable. We ladle salt and sugar and saturated and trans fats under died. There's none of that here when you take your diet. Even just reducing a lot of it. Everything else stays saltier. When you just try to eat normal food. It tastes so salty. That's so cool. Because it's an acquired taste. You get used to salt in your food because you saw your food. Yeah and when you begin to take away some of these little taste your brain resets itself you begin to expect different tastes. That's one of the big benefits of making a big shift in your died. Not so much as you can do it for the rest of your life. But you just reset your reboot the taste buds of your mouth. Okay now could. Eating certain foods actually protect your skin from the sun. This woman is exposed to ultraviolet light to measure how quickly her skin burns. Then she loads up tomato paste on some crackers about four tablespoons every day for three months. Then she's exposed to the same level of ultraviolet rays result. Thirty percent less damage. Making a case for sunscreen. You could eat. Wow no i remember when you and dr roseanne. We're on here before saying you know. Tomatoes tomatoes tomatoes tomatoes. Mike open my eyes to tomatoes. I didn't actually appreciate how powerful lycopene really is. What really doing by pena's a correct loyd is found in tomatoes classically when tomatoes turn orange and you actually converting the lycopene to vitamin the manet. So you actually want to get the reddest or tomato that you can in order to get as much like appears this season now. Anybody have a garden with tomatoes. Aren't they great cherry tomatoes. So you wanna get the lycopene as much as you can. You're that does is attached to ski cells in your skin. I think about the skin. It's spectacular organ of sensual. It's beautiful shoes. Your biggest oregon. But here's what's really cool about it. You smiling this. I love this. Yeah the sun is attacking your body. And it's hoping your body at the same time the skins major function is enough sun through. Yeah but you can convert cholesterol vitamin d. Because you've gotta have vitamin d. Yeah but at the same time it needs to protect you against the sun destroying all of your full of gas. So how does it do that. It does that by having its own antioxidant system. Always there to protect you. And how'd you replenish it. Things like like pain. Yeah that's why this experiment was concede. Could you buy replenishing. The skin quickly prevent it from being damaged by the sun and the answer. Absolute yesler matic reduction. Thirty percent reduction in sunburns. Everyone ought to remember. Does it prevent wrinkles wrinkles too because wrinkles come about because you've got these rubber bands under your skin. They give you the tents this deal last this city that you want and those rubber bands the last in tissue snaps it phrase when you're exposed to sun having lycopene other substances that like that they're antioxidants you keep that skin replenishing don't damage that tissue. That's that's needed for your skin to become balancing if without that penalty. Skin you get wrinkles. Okay so tomatoes made us okay. Eighty percent of people think that they should drink at least half a gallon of water day to keep their skin looking young. But does that really work. These twins are big water drinkers. I've probably guessed through about an lisa. Maybe and a half day because it does make a difference to my skin is really really important to us a beautiful skin to see. If water really does make a difference. Researchers i measured the moisture elasticity and oiliness of the girls skipped then over the next week. The twins eat the same diet but the only difference is that alice has to make sure she plenty of. Water and suzy is not allowed to drink any and the result. No difference at all all these magazine articles. I've been seeing literature out there about the value of water. There's the actual truth about food. There was no difference at all. Now why is that. The the big reason is because food has waterman it by potatoes. Seventy five percent water and they lean steak is sixty five percent water even cheese hard cheese is forty percent water so we get a lot of water already without having to go and did extra water now. Assuming you're not dehydrated and you these sisters were. You won't have that problem really daisy. Now there are other benefits of water waters. Great to lose weight. 'cause it's satisfied. You're so tidy center. You don't get urged equate as much. It's got lots of benefits that go beyond its ability to affect your skin. But.

Doctor is decided to give up a few moments to call us good morning, Doctor Ause. Good morning, my friend you said it. Right. You know it's not about panicking, but it's about being honest truth fault. Exactly say one thing just to get started. The we're can do people we get things done. As long as we know the truth, and what's been bothering me is that folks don't quite know all the facts 'cause they're so involving. No one really knows all the details for sure. Either overreact one way or the other way, and we just get clear on a couple of basic fundamentals. People can at least know what they need to do, and then we'll show up. You don't average person does the right they will win. It seems like two stories changing almost every hour. That's why it's a rapidly changing story. So where are we as of right now? What do we need to be doing to Make sure we're all safe and are the people love safe. All right so the the good news is that this? Virus does not seem to be that lethal. We don't know of cases where people have died under the age of ten. If your average healthy adult, it's probably a two and thousand chance that you'll die. Just put it in perspective. It's one thousand. If you get the regular old-fashioned influenza virus flow, so it's a little more deadly than the flu, but not terribly more the problem. Problem happens older folks when you go, see grandma, right? That's where the risk happened. So people over the age of sixty have a significantly higher risk of dying a sort of doubles every decade after that. Hey, if we've got a chronic, you'll this then then the credit cardiovascular disease that makes it worse when you mentioned older people. Everyone in the room started looking at me. Why would they. Why would they do? In very good shape, don't mess with. Doctor A youthful older person thank you. For. Your part part of the issue lies everyone so panicked about this, and I think we have a deep seated belief in our psyche. That virus is gonNA come wiper species out because historically that was always the big threat right Spanish blends to play, and if you ask the experts, the big fear actually is you'll have a terrible virus that will come hurt a lot of us. This isn't that virus and on. On the show today for example I got this wonderful. The virus hunter the country. The movie contagion was based on him. He was medical director and his, and he's at Columbia University with me, and he speaks very honest what to China. He was called to help with stuff, and he debunked a lot of the midst. This is not some man made virus in a lab at one this this is definitely. A wild weird. Combination of viruses, but he says this. We're not gonNA have a vaccine and this man helps sequence the virus. He knows about it. We're not gonNA vaccine for at least a year, probably a year and a half. It takes that long to make sure it's safe because you don't want a mistake. They give a couple of hundred billion people to wrong vaccine, and in. In the meantime we gotta do some basic things right as a people in order to give the healthcare system a chance to up. Okay, we don't have enough better later. We don't have enough beds, but the things you can do will help your life today. So, what do we need to do? What are the bare basics as we go out into the weekend Dr? When that one sheet that the crow survival guide that you posted kindly on doctors I at all our social sites. It's the most shared piece of Information I. Put out in the last couple of years I mean it's a simple summary and very quickly sleep and exercise really helps your immune system in general you ought to do independent krona virus, things like general protection tactics that washing your hands, but it's your fingers. You have to wash get. Get the back of your hands and your wrists wash your fingertips. humidifier helps as well as they have built it. If you're smoking vaping, please stop I. Mean it makes your lungs weakened the way this virus hurts. You is by getting into your lungs in causing pneumonia. So at least give us a little bit of a leg up that you're going to smoke again. Find do it in a couple months. When there's warm, weather comes via should slowdown. In Ghandi's taking edibles, so she's okay I'm okay. Thank you Dr us back to. Ghandi I was thinking about you and I said. And and there's some there's something list probably make sense. I'm thinking. Vitamin D three vitamin. c these things it's consoles shorten the duration of an illness to get them. Zinc helps elderberry, and again these are all on that one sheet that we gave you made a group can which comes to mushrooms simple little things not proven the cure cancer stop corona virus, but could be helpless, shortening racism, a virus. Okay, and if you do these things that are in thoughtful fashion, and then avoid a being exposed to people in close cramped areas if you have respect. About the arms length role, let's talk about the three foot rule, hey! Let's talk about masks because everyone's. There's a big debate on there and I keep hearing. The wearing the masks is just not going to help. So, what's the point, so you tell us what your opinion is. Most masks are waste of time the kind that I wear in the operating room at you see surgeons in movies where that's to protect the patient from us. It doesn't pick you from anything. However, there are masks that work the ninety five mask. You have to get fitted for them. All doctors and nurses have to go through a fitting process every year. If you wearing without being fitted and probably not gonNA work for you, but here's the bigger issue Elvis, and this bigger theme of us, being Americans and doing the right thing. We don't have enough masks in. For the healthcare providers, the weak link in the system is the hospital. Because if you don't have masking the nurses and doctors get sick. They can't take care of people, so you can't use the masks. We don't have enough for the doctors and nurses. Okay so. I do the. Back off the masks all right good. Another question if you think you have it because you know what you can have a common cold. Where do you go to get? Where would you go get tested? I wouldn't even know the first place to go. That's a good point. They put the beginning of allergy season doctor. This is going to be a very confusing time for a lot of people. What do you think on that? So I actually to discuss that with a couple big big experts including Dot Lipkin this afternoon on the show, and here's the basic, never said anything because of the show before, but this is what he's telling would echo it if you think you have coronavirus, but you feel okay. So let's say you have a fever and some fatigue, which is the classic signs, but you don't have shortness of breath. You don't feel really horribly. Stay home. Don't go see anybody. Don't go get tested not worth it just stay home. Isolate Yourself, and because if you go to the hospital, you're bringing the virus review. You'll get the person drive you sick. The taxi driver the people in the Er they're all getting ill with you. Just stay home. You'll be fine again. Eighty percent of people get this virus. The Simpsons are so mild and they had the virus right. The first time again is a fever. Fever fatigue and then you'll start getting at dry cough, and actually a lot of people get diarrhea l.. So that's the basic constellation of science, however, none of those are life threatening member those panic. If, you think you if you're not sure if you have an allergy or corona virus is not that severe right cause allergies. Aren't that most people runny nose is not a reason to go to the hospital on the other hand if you're getting short of breath. lightheaded. If you're having a really think you're severely ill, please get to a hospital, but that's what we need people to help out. We will overwhelm our ers and our and our hospitals..
