Learned Maura at Lutheran, Our dog Now. Here's our speaker, Dr Michael Zigler. You remember that story? The one about the Good Samaritan. Who saw the guy who had been mugged left for dead on the side of the road. Other people passed them by, but the Samaritan stopped and helped Or what about the story with the sun? One who demanded that his father give him his inheritance. And then he took all that money, skipped town and wasted it on wild living, and then After he was dead, broke, returned to his father to see if he would somehow take him back. You don't have to be a religious person to recognize these stories, and those were just two of them. There are dozens and dozens more. Vivid, memorable stories about extravagant wedding banquets and lost sheep. And tiny seeds that earn 1000% return on investment. Stories have been speaking to people for generations. Sort of like how Pixar movies have spoken to this generation movies like Toy Story and Finding Nemo and up These stories, the ones that I was mentioning. They've been around for a couple of 1000 years. This kind of story is normally called up. Terrible operable is a story that aims to say something true about life. And these stories that I mentioned they all originate from one person. The most talked about person in human history. Jesus of Nazareth. So Why did Jesus tell parables? Well, who doesn't like a good story Stories connect Story can take something. Complicated and make it simple. All good communicators. Tell stories. So why wouldn't Jesus use them? But if we thought that Jesus Told stories on Lee to be an engaging communicator. Then it might be difficult for us to understand. What happened to him eventually. You know the whole crucifixion and all. See people who Dedicate their lives that telling moving stories connecting with people and emotionally enriching their lives. They don't normally get the death penalty. Authors of the Chicken Soup for the Soul Books End up on best seller lists, not Death row. So Jesus with all his engaging and vivid stories. How did he end up getting crucified? Before we try to answer that. How about we let Jesus speak for himself? Listen to some of his parables recorded in one of his biographies in the New Testament, the Gospel according to Mark, and as you Listen, Ask yourself Why did Jesus tell parables? It starts like this. Again. Jesus went out and began toe teach. Beside the Sea of Galilee. And a giant crowd. Began to gather around him so that he got into a boat. And stationed himself out on the sea. And the whole crowd was on the shore facing the sea. And he began to teach them many things. In parables. And in his teaching, he was saying, Listen, look. The farmer. Went out to sow his seed. It happened. As he was sewing. Some of the seed fell along the path. The birds came and gobbled it up. Other seed fell on rocky ground where it did not have much earth. And straight way it sprang up because the earth was shallow. And when the sun came up It was scorched. And since it had no root, it withered. Other seed fell into the weeds, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it produced no grain. And other seeds fell into the good, Earth rich Earth, and they proceeded to produce grain growing and increasing and bearing In one case, 30 times more. In another case, 60 and in another case, 100 times more than what was sown. He continued to say. Whoever has ears. Here here. Listen. And when he was alone. Those who were around him. Along with the 12, the 12 disciples began to ask him about the parables. He said to them. To you. Is already given the mystery. The rule and reign of God. To those on the outside. It's all in parables. So that they are looking and they look They do not see. And they are hearing and they hear They do not understand otherwise. Day would turn.

"Mentions in Mark Chapter two verse 26. So Is Jesus reference to Abaya Thor a contradiction. I don't think so. By mentioning Abaya Thar Jesus is referencing not just the scene, but the whole story. And he's doing it to draw a comparison between King David And himself, and here's the comparison. And David God, the true King. Chose a human king to represent God to the people, but the king goes through a time of suffering. A time when people contradicted His kingship. And the people who were loyal to their kings suffered alongside their king. When the bio Thor is whole family was killed, he ran to his king. He found sanctuary in his king and the King said to him in first Samuel chapter 22 verse 23. Stay with me. Don't be afraid. The one who seeks my life seeks your life. You'll be safe with me. And David God. The true King chose a human king. But in Jesus God. The true King became the human king. And he called people follow me. And in the time of his suffering, those who are loyal to their king will suffer the contradictions with their king. So Jesus promises us. Stay with me. You will be safe with me. See When you open yourself up to hearing the backstory behind the apparent contradiction. You may encounter with the Bible is all about It's not a book of rules. It's not a registry of names. It's a story about the God who loves his people and wants to stay with them. And in Jesus. God has come to stay. Is counter to sit at the table. And relax with them to share a meal into Be with them. To be with you. To be with me. Forgot to stay with us. It's going to be Complicated. Plot. Because we are contradictory lot. Hartley. I don't know about you, but I Him full. Of contradictions. And my life is full of contradictions. And the list would be way longer than five pages. One moment I'm affair, See, And I think I'm better than everybody else. And then the next moment, I'm a sinner. And I wish that I could be someone else. Over here. I'm amazed at how good I am. But over there I am shocked at how petty and selfish And sick. I am I just want to be loved. But I know that I'm not worthy of love. I am a walking contradiction. And I think you are too As were the people who rejected God's king. As were the people who crucified Jesus. We are full of contradictions. And yet God loves us anyhow. He wants to stay with us. See, this is the back story behind the Bible's apparent contradictions. God. Act in a way that seems contradictory because he is ah, Holy God, who wants to stay with unholy people? And so he breaks down to build up. He threatens. So that he can make a promise he kills. So that he can make alive. So Jesus became the chosen king, who is rejected for us. Jesus is the king of kings, who became the servant and the slave for us. God who cannot die became a human being to die and offer his life is the sacrifice. For us. And then Jesus did the most contradictory thing of all. He took a shameful death. Which is the end of us all. And he made a new beginning. For all Now he is alive. And if you listen to his backstory You can still hear him say David's words to abaya, Thor. Stay with me. You'll be safe with me. That's the story behind the Apparent contradictions of the Bible God Appears contradictory because he's loving us through. Are contradictions. And I admit it is a complicated story. A convoluted story. Sometimes it confusing story and I don't always understand it. But it's a realistic story. It's not only a story that's true, but it's a story that's true to life. And if the Bible where anything less That would be the contradiction. Would you pray with me? Father God. We thank you for welcoming us into your presence. You need nothing. You lack nothing. You have everything and it seems absurd that you would welcome us. With all our contradictions into your presence. So we thank you. We praise you. We hide ourselves in you through Jesus Christ, Your son, our king who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Now here's our speaker, Dr Michael Zigler. Robert handed me a stack of papers. Five pages neatly stapled together. Robert had Diligently studied the Bible. And carefully recorded all the contradictions that he had found there. The Bible's full of contradictions. He told me. Here's a list What was special about Robert's list whose head it was so long? Five pages. Single spaced times. New Roman 10 Point font. There were the standard ones. Like The Bible says that God never grows weary. But then it says that God rested On the seventh day after creation, the first Sabbath Day or All of the different changes in the rules and laws from the old Testament to the New Testament and then There were some really obscure ones. I mean down in the weeds. For example, how in Mark Chapter two verse 26. It says that the high priest was ah by afar. When David ate the bread. But in first Samuel chapter 21 it says that Ah, him elect was the priest. Here's what I've learned about these so called Bible contradictions. There's usually a backstory. And if you're open to hearing it You may encounter what the Bible is all about. Let's try this out with the so called Baya Thara him elect contradiction, The one that I just mentioned, and what makes this so interesting is that it comes straight from the mouth of Jesus. It's recorded in Mark, Chapter two, and Jesus is in an argument with the Farris ease. Farris Seas were the self appointed authorities on God and the Bible. And of all the reasons that they had to dislike Jesus. The thing that really set them off was how he came off as contradicting the Bible. For example. Affairs. He's knew that God had commanded that there be no work on the Sabbath day, but here Jesus was letting his disciples work on the Sabbath Day. They were plucking heads of grain for a snack as they were walking through the grain field. Now that is a little nit picky on the Ferris. He's part. Oh, consider that work, but from their perspective, it was a clear contradiction of God's law. Why are you letting them do this on the Sabbath? And Jesus. Instead of directly answering them references this obscure passage from the life of David, and what's really interesting is that apparently Jesus gets the name of the high priest wrong. Because the guy abaya Thor, But if you go and look it up in first Samuel chapter 21 right there in black and white, it's ah, him a lack And apparently the Farris. He's don't even catch this because they don't call him out on it. Perhaps they're so busy looking for other contradictions that they didn't even bother to check the back story. Okay, so listen to the context behind this so called Bias are him. Elect Contradiction recorded in the Gospel of Mark Chapter two. All started verse 13. Once again, Jesus went out beside the Sea of Galilee. And all the crowd. Began to come to him and he began to teach them. As he was going by. He saw Levi, the son of al Fia's sitting at the toll booth. The place where he was collecting taxes. And he says to him Follow me. He got up and followed him. And it happens. That he is relaxing in his house in Levi's house, and there are many tax collectors and sinners. Reclining at the table with Jesus and his disciples. You know there were many and they were actually following him. And the scribes of the Farris sees when they saw that he was eating with Sinners and tax collectors. He started saying to his disciples he's eating with tax collectors and sinners. And Jesus when he heard it says to them. It is not those who are strong who need a doctor. But those who are sick. Did not come to call righteous people. Sinful ones. Now John's disciples and the disciples of the Farris seas were fasting. Dr. Michael Zigler this week on the Luthor in our Sunday mornings at 6 30 on WTMJ. President no longer has his Twitter account to reach his followers and people who are just keeping tabs on what the president says. That is a lot of 88 million followers a little more than 88 million followers to the at real Donald Trump. Twitter account now have no way to hear the president or do they Ah lot of other social media platforms, suspending or permanently removing his account. Based on the events of Wednesday, Wednesday was the tipping point. Because you know, people have been calling for the president's account to be taken off Twitter for the past four years. It hasn't been done. Does Twitter have a bias? Maybe. No, maybe sure they might. Uh, Do these other tech companies have a bias? Yes, but So do different news networks both right right wing and left wing or quota Go mainstream. Everybody's got a bias, so You know, I get it. But where do you Where do you fall on this? 85561616 20 D'Aquino Mortgage talking text line. Kelly is in West Van Dyke Kelly. Welcome to the show. I think so much for taking my call. So let me preface this by saying that I have been a Trump supporter. I have not liked Most of what Trump tweets out. However, it is my opinion that there is an absolute desire for the left to shut down Conservative speech and I absolutely think it starts of Trump. They've hated him forever and I think there's a lot of stuff that put out on social media. That is pretty disgusting. Vile, and I'd love to see a list. Oh, Who has also been dammed and what they put out to band up. Because I really think this is just an attempted to shut him up. We're talking about a sitting president here. That's a pretty major deal. Would say it's a huge deal and Kelly I think I think we'd all be surprised. I think you have to go pretty far to get banned from social media. But I think what's important here and This kind of confirms what you're saying to a point. This is a private company. This private company has terms and service agreements that 90% of us. I'm guessing don't read when we sign up, but we just click agree whether it's for iTunes or Twitter or Facebook. They have They have the right as a private company. To decide. They're going to let on now. We have to agree with it. Absolutely not. Can we? Can we look at it and say, Hey, you're trying to shut down conservative voice or you're trying to stifle this idea. Yes, And you may be absolutely right. But whether we like it or not, a private company has has the right to do that. I completely agree with you. I do. However, like I said before, I think that there are a lot of people said world World leaders, world dictators people that we don't necessarily Put in high regard that are saying things on Twitter that Epps absolutely should because for confirmed, but yet they're not fan. And so I think it's it's a pick and choose, and I think is a I think it's a slippery slope. But I think that everybody should be concerned where this is headed because it'll start with trump. But who's next? And what's the criteria is it needs to be met? If it's simply because you're conservative? You have to have a reason to be concerned. Well, if they're if that were the case, Kelly I would agree with you, 100%. I do. I do agree that it is they are picking and choosing, as is their right. But I think it goes. I think it goes a lot further because there's still a lot of conservative voices. On these social media platforms. I appreciate the call Kelly. Thanks so much. Let's go to Harvey in Milwaukee. Hi, Harvey. Hey, how you doing? I'm well, thanks. What do you think? What I think is that you know the First Amendment is applied to the government is not applied to private individuals or private companies. They have the right to pick and choose who they want to allow. Seo most on their on their sights on their website, and they feel that a person is danger or in supposing into information was dangerous. They certainly have the right To prevent them from posting. Now, you know, what would Kelly said, may be true that there are other people that they're posting that she doesn't agree with, Um But the fact of the matter is is that there are lots of people posting on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter or conservatives. And who are Republicans and who are representative of mainstream or people who are not hosting, um, dangerous things. Everybody's been trying to get Trump. Awful, peaceful office from quarter for a long time, but we have not been trying to get Adam Kinzinger off off of Twitter or Lindsey Graham off of Twitter or Mitch McConnell of Twitter because they have not been posting dangerous things Trump is imposing dangerous things. And Twitter finally decided enough was enough. And they have every right to do that. The Washington Times committed to see if they want to write in the paper and what they don't want to read in the paper. No, it's Hey, It's absolutely right, Harvey. Just and well, we're gonna get into that. I'm gonna read the amendment. The First Amendment for people verbatim because, as I said, you're right. This is their decision, and I'm looking right now at my Twitter feed, and there's a lot of conservative voices still coming. That doesn't mean that Twitter and Facebook and all these other big temple Tech companies do not lean more left. But they are not there, not erasing the conservative voices. In my opinion, are we thank you for the call. Let's take a quick break. If you want to jump in a 5561616 20, the AC unit mortgage talking text line, the president no longer has his Twitter account. Good bad. Where do you fall? Is it about time and let's get into what The First Amendment actually means We'll do that. On the other side. It's 6.

But I don't see why he should come into my little corner of it and bounce there. Bouncing is what you're called taking people by surprise. And that's what taker did. He was too much. And that's why Rabbit wanted to teach him a lesson. I have an idea, he said. Here it is. We take Tigger out on a long explore. Somewhere. He's never been And then We lose him there. And the next day when we find him Mark my words, he'll be a different Tigger altogether. Will be our humble Tigger. Be a sad Tigger. Phobia. Small and a sorry, Tigger. Now, piglets who was generally fun of everyone wasn't sure about this idea. Although he did admit to himself privately, that however much you like Tigger. You couldn't deny it. He sure did bounce. Sometimes he could be too much. And I feel something similar. Sometimes when I listen to the opening Of the Gospel, according to Mark The Gospel. But the good news, according to Mark is one of the ancient biographies of Jesus of Nazareth. It was written 2000 years ago by a man named Mark, who was closely associated with Jesus. And for two millennia, people have been listening to and reading, studying and discussing the good news, according to Mark And often times something about it strikes people as too much. See, there's this word that Mark uses. Some would say over uses. It's an adverb, uh, a word that modifies a verb in action Word. It's normally translated as immediately or suddenly. Or at once. My personal favorite is the translation from the old King James version as straight way. And right out of the gates trait way Mark uses this adverb 13 times in the opening section of the gospel that I'll share with you in a moment and then before the book is over, he's going to use it. Another 28 times. Mark breaks all convention and uses this adverb 41 times in the book. That's four times more than all the other New Testament writers put together. And with all this amped up at verbal action marks book practically bounces and bounds like Tigger. See what you think. So if you think it's too much This is the beginning. The good news about Jesus, the Messiah. The son of God. Just a zit stands written in Isaiah, the Prophet look. I am sending my messenger ahead of you. Who will prepare your way the voice of one crying in the wilderness. Prepare the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight. John came on the scene. Baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins and all the people of Judea and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were coming out to John to be baptized by him in the river, Jordan. Confessing their sins. No John War clothing made of camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist, and he was eating Locusts and wild honey and he would preach, saying The one who comes after me is stronger than I am. I am not even worthy to stoop down and untie the strap of his sandal. I've baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. And in those days it came to pass. Jesus came From Nazareth of Galilee, and he was baptized by John in the Jordan River and straight away as he was coming up out of the water. He saw the heavens being tourney open and the spirit like a dove descending into him. And a voice came from heaven saying You are my beloved son. With you. I am well pleased it straightaway. The spirit drives him into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness for 40 days being tempted by Satan and he was with the wild animals and the Angels were ministering to him. Now. After John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee proclaiming, preaching the good news of God saying the time is fulfilled. The rule and reign of God has said hand Repent now and believe the good news. And going on alongside the Sea of Galilee. He saw Simon and Andrew Simon's brother, They were casting the net and to the sea. You know they were fishermen, and he said to them follow me and I will make you become people who fish for other people. Straightaway. They left their nets and followed him and going on a bit further. He saw James, the son of 70 and John, his brother sitting in their boat, mending their nets and straightaway. He called them and they left their father's evident in the boat with the hired servants and followed him and and they go into Capernaum and straightaway on the Sabbath. Upon going into the synagogue, he began to teach. And they were astonished at his teaching because he was teaching them exuding authority. Not like their scribes and straightaway. There wasn't their synagogue, a man in the power of an unclean spirit. And he cried. Help saying Why are you meddling in our affairs? Jesus, Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. The Holy one of God and Jesus rebuked him and said Be muzzled and come out of him and the unclean spirit upon convulsing the man a lot and crying out in a loud voice came out and they were all thunderstruck. And they started arguing among themselves saying, What is this new teaching with authority? Commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him and straightaway. The report went out everywhere and I'll hold the region of gallery straightaway. He left the synagogue and went into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John, now Simon's mother in law was sick, burning up with a fever and straightaway. They told him about her. He came and he took her by the hand and lifted her up and the fever left her and she began to serve him. And that evening at sundown, they began to bring everyone who was sick and those who were being oppressed by demons so that the whole town was gathered together at the door and Jesus healed. Many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, but he would not permit the demons to speak because they knew him and very early in the morning..
