"Use the promo code, Pete You get 20% off growers hemp dot com from North Carolina farmers to your home growers. Hemp is about the hemp and not the hype. So North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and his communications team. They are directing covert coverage via there twice a week. Briefings. I'm not sure people have kind of Realized this yet. But every time they do a briefing, they highlight one item that they want the news media to cover And then the news media does. I know it's shocking, but they do. Um, and yesterday and there are cut their many reasons for this, By the way, the most obvious and Uh, Well, yes, there is. Sometimes there is news value and what it is that the governor is announcing, like if they're saying, you know, we're going to another phase where easing restrictions where tightening restrictions. That's obviously you know, newsworthy. But Sunday's like the news conference yesterday, and I hate a straight I call them briefings. Really? Because they're not even news conferences. Yes, they take questions, but the questions Are you've heard me rail against the way he manages and his coms team managed the thieves briefings. So you end up with with reporters that air dialing in on the phone, and they're getting to ask one question. They then can hit the five button and get a follow up or something in that, By the way, they don't ever use it as an actual follow up. They use it to ask a completely different question. So you end up now with reporters from preferred outlets, they get two questions vs. People who are at you know the double plus on good media outlets. They don't get to ask any questions. And so you just end up hearing the same kinds of questions over and over and over again. I've got and I I'd live tweet this by the way, I watch this stuff so you don't have to. I pull some audio when I have some clips well here, but, um, the questions You would not be able to tell really. You would not be able to tell when the questions are being asked whether it was today whether it was last month whether it was six months ago because all the questions are basically the same, which is tell us what you're going to do in the future. What might happen That's going to influence your decision in the future. That's what all of these questions seem to be. And they all kind of tap into this, you know, forward looking speculative nature and It really doesn't have a lot of value. But I understand why that occurs. Ah, lot of these reporters. They don't have time nor maybe the inclination or ability to go and find the information. From a science perspective and be able to press the governor and his secretary of Health and human services, Dr Mandy Cohen, and press her on the science. All they keep saying is the science and the data are directing all of their decisions, but nobody ever asks them about the science. Here's a good one. This is very simple, too. Compliance with the mask mandate. We have any idea what the compliance rates are for the Mass? Mandy, Have you seen any kind of analysis about that? No, there hasn't been the governor and his health secretary. Neither one of them have given us any information about compliance with masks. Who's wearing them. How often what's the saturation like like we don't know any of this. It's all anecdotal. I'm gonna get to this because this is really important for what they just announced at the briefing yesterday, okay? S o. They are directing news coverage. This is the key. Take away from this. They direct the news coverage. Yesterday It was the new color coded map that is on the DHHS covert data dashboard. They've got a map and all of the counties are different colors. Red, orange and yellow red is bad. Yellow is less bad and oranges kind of medium bit. Okay. Um so yeah, because so what? By the way we talked about this last week. Last week. I think it was when we were talking about how ABC 11 the TV station did. Story about how the red counties where Trump visited or that or that voted for Trump rather had higher surges for covert cases in the last two weeks. And I went to the dashboard. I could see the county's They had all these. They were all like red and stuff and different shades of red and I looked at this the other day. Now, maybe they've tweaked something. And so this warranted a big announcement. But this was the focus of their press conference. Sorry, the briefing that they held yesterday. So the new color coded map? Um is the story that Cooper and Cohen wanted to promote. And so that's the story that got done. News and observer headline red, orange and yellow and see launches New County alerts to help curb covert 19 surges Now, think about this. The argument being, uh, proposed hereby, Cohen and Cooper is that this graphic of the state with all the counties in red Orange or yellow color coding that that is going to reduce the case counts and hospitalizations. Having this map is going to stem the search, although they don't call it a surge. Remember, they're they're very They're very quick to say there. Where not seeing a surge in North Carolina because stuff that they did has been working. So yes, we're seeing increases. And yes, these increases in the case camps and hospitalizations. They're higher than they were even back in March, but not a search surges and spikes are what occur in other states. Okay, we don't have that kind of action going on here. Thank you very much because of Governor Cooper's, You know, strong leadership on this issue. So news and Observer says, you know here the maps. Nancy launches new alerts Governor Here's ABC 11 Governor Cooper unveils covert 19 County alert system pushes counties to curb spread Wre else headline and see rolls out County alert system to illustrate severity of pandemic and then they even did a follow up with Wilson. Reacting to being a red zone on the new covert 19 map, which prompted the Wilson County Health director, Theresa Ellen to say on Twitter that the map is quote in no way an indication that numbers have suddenly changed or that we are not exercising good strategies to control the spread. Citizens should continue to practice the three WC. So you have the local health director saying, Okay, look, just because they've done a color coded map here. It doesn't mean that we're not doing good strategies. So. So, what is this? What is she saying? Without saying, by the way? Viruses are going to behave like viruses behave. This is virus season. This is their habitat, right? This is their environment that they they, they spread more easily in Everybody knew this was coming. Everybody understood that the case counts were going to go up during this season. Unless, of course, you believe that if everybody just wore a mask, then that was going to curtail it. That was That was never going to be the case. Just like with the you know, flattened the curve. It was never going to be the case that flattening the curve equals no new virus spread. All it did was just squeeze out that the big bulge and just push it out over a longer period of time. That's all it did. W R E O. Here's their story. State officials on Tuesday rolled out a system to show North Carolina's coronavirus hot spots to ratchet up pressure on counties where the virus is spreading rapidly and in danger of overrunning healthcare resource is so And this was explicit. You'll hear from the governor. That they're saying we're doing this map in order to try toe pressure people at the local level to basically take it more seriously because they're not taking it seriously. So what is he saying? He and Cohen are blaming local citizens, businesses, governments, law enforcement agencies, right, He's blaming all of us. Because you know he did the mask mandate, and he said these restrictions and he put caps on restaurants and such By the way, if you're going to reduce the capacity limit for the social gatherings, why wouldn't you reduce the capacity? Limits at restaurants. Because if the idea here is that everybody's hanging.

"To Brett Jensen about this. Reopens efforts and that his underway as we move into phase three, is it Bret Jensen that we're moving into a North Carolina? Ah, what have we got? What are we looking at? When it comes to Well, I mean, we saw bars and capacities, theaters, football stadiums. I mean, I don't know how we are in terms of the number wise for the state. You know, we really in a phase three. What's going on here? Well, you know, that's that's a great question. Are we really in phase three? The truthful answer is no. We're not Phase two set forth by the governor on April 23rd. Was the fact that bars were supposed to open on in Phase two and much more seating capacity. Phase three were supposed to include much more seating capacity for restaurants, right Which did not happen that stayed the same. It 50% you know, so thinks that things have been jumping around. You know that there were really not in phase three because Phase three was going to open up a lot of different things that a lot greater capacity. Things that were already open did not increase were are not allowed to increase in capacity. Like I said, whether it's restaurants or whether it's even the Carolina Panthers. Whether it's you know, having people at your house that still You know, 25 indoors, 50 outdoors and literally. Someone just asked me. I'm not even joking. Maybe 30 minutes ago, said Hey, I'm actually one of the few going to the Panthers game. Am I allowed to tell a gate? And I said, Absolutely. You're allowed to have 50 people in one area tailgating so that by the governor's order, But you know, you just can't have more than 30 people inside of a theater or something like that. But yes, you are. You are, you know? Excuse me 30% instead of a theater, so for yes. Oh, it is. It's very convoluted. And the one thing the governor he and man to use the word. Fragile, fragile. I've times trying to use the word fragile. We are in a very fragile state. Our numbers are very flat. JAL. They said that word five times and the governor even used the word spike. You know, I'm not trying to point have point out for being, you know, like necessarily, like being grammatically incorrect, But we have never had a spike in is a matter of fact, Dr. Mandy Cohen has even said numerous occasions during these press conferences. We've never had a spike. Even though the governor today said We have to make sure we don't have another spike, which we've never had. Oh, my God. So all the numbers, they said, are basically the same. Nothing's really changed. We're you know, hovering right around 5%. I know. Ah, week or so ago we were actually below 5% at 4.8% positivity rate. So nothing's really changed. Um, you know again, I had another political operative reach out to me and said, Do you think he's allowing more things to open even though nothing has changed? Because we're getting closer to election. Man. That's I think that's a very legitimate question, but I really do. Course. Of course, it's a legitimate question and would be wonderful if you got the chance to ask that question, But still they lock you out. Don't they brought Jensen? Yeah, I haven't been a lot been allowed to ask a question since right after Ah, right after ST Patrick's Day in March. Just so disgraceful. This is such a disgrace. Somebody always all right. What's our closing thought in this regard? What's the practical implications of all of this? Uh, if you if you're gathering together, you visit mask mandatory. I mean, what are we looking at here? Yeah, he did say he still said that Mass for people five years old and older. They're mandatory. Well, technically, that's not true, Master, not mandatory. I mean, that's factually incorrect. If you remember, he said he could not police people wearing masks that they did not have the authority to make people where the mass but I'm getting into, you know, like the minutia of everything, but Yeah, you know, people are still required to wear masks. It's all this will go through October 23rd, and then they will reevaluate the situation on October 23rd. You know, it should be noted that Illinois just started closing indoor dining again because They're having more increases, so no, he said. You said Look, things are getting colder. We're getting ready to get into flu season and we just have to make sure we have to take this. You know, little baby steps at a time and so well, we will reevaluate on October 23rd. And we'll go from there. Okay? Final question. Any practical implications for Mecklenburg County Specifically as it relates to CMS? Ah, no, We know that these special needs kids went into Ah, fulltime classes yesterday. You know, so that when we also know that CMS will not go into in person learning until November, And so that's believe. Two days after the election if I'm not mistaken, so I mean that's Ah That's where we are now. And I will tell you this because CMS has has changed its mind numerous times refused to listen to medical experts and decided to get their own medical experts and people who will do actually have nothing to do with Medicine to be truthfully honest about it there if I were parent, Honestly, I would just just assume that your kid would not be going to school. Any time until at least January. Just because the way CMS has been waffling back and forth on so many different occasions. Well, we appreciate you. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Dr Mandy Cohen said today that North Carolina is not in dire straits like some other states right now. But you said there are several concerning signs about the growing number of infections in the status isn't where I'd hoped we'd be for July 4th weekend and unfortunately, we don't get a holiday from Cove in 19 we can celebrate. But we have to do so responsibly. Someone says there are concerns right now about the rise in daily confirmed infections, especially in the past week, and the number of people going to emergency rooms with co bit like symptoms, which he says is a key early warning indicator. Inundation college says the percentage of tests that are positive needs to drop from 8 to 10% to around 5%. And with more than 900 people Hospital I statewide as of this morning, Cohen says, there is still capacity, but it is an area that needs to be closely watched this talk 11 10 99 www bt let's get enough data on traffic conditions and always Doing the close watching force. Help prevent the spread of Corbett, 1974% of state residents in that survey say they support the action recently taken by Governor Roy Cooper. However, the survey found that less than half of North Carolinians, 46% said they always wear masks in public spaces, and 19% said they were masked in public just most of the time. That could be a contributing factor in the U. S reporting yet another record daily number of new Corona virus infections over 52,000 on Wednesday. The surge in new cases, especially in the South and West, has been blamed in part on Americans not wearing masks or obeying social distancing rules. "We speak right now Mandy calling Dr Mandy Cohen who runs it North Carolina health the department at the state level in Raleigh is giving us an update on metrics and trends in the trends are going up in terms of covert cases we expect to hear from governor Roy Cooper we expect to hear maybe some sort of a of of the disposal of of the idea of what's going to happen when it comes to a mandatory mask orders are no orders or what have you breaking Brett Jensen is out there chasing that story now and is of course I'm going to keep us up to date you can follow him on Twitter at brick on the score Jensen we're gonna visit with him in the five o'clock hour job to get caught up on all these developments in you're gonna want to stay here on WBT all day long to get updates on on what's going to happen next for us here in North Carolina and into South Carolina as well because that's that's what we do we provide the latest and best information locally and we are local and proud to be a part of the conversation right here are very disturbing very disturbing reporting coming out in just these last hours as it relates to what happened at Beatty's Ford wrote I'm gonna continue to talk about this I'm going to continue to pound this I'm gonna continue to bring this up while I have breath in my lungs are a hundred and eighty one rounds were fired on Beatty's Ford road attack shooting on Sunday night so that's almost two hundred rounds of ammunition fired at a crowd of hundreds of people by individuals with various firearms including some by the way that CMPD now tells us or connected to other crimes police said some of the guns used in the deadly shooting on Brady's Ford road have been connected to other crimes in Charlotte Charlotte Mecklenburg police investigators said multiple hand guns and all assault rifles were used during a shootout at a block party late Sunday night then early Monday morning that killed four people and injured ten others this ladies and gentleman was a mass shooting this was a mass shooting this was a mass attack on our streets hundreds of people could have been killed all hundred eighty one shots fired so if if like half the people had been hit ninety people getting shot would that would that garner attention from the cable channels when we get that from Chris and don would we get who we can get that from okay just say you don't get it that's just that's just that's just something happened some people did some things right is that what we got from Minneapolis on people that something's deputy chief Gerald Smith says this a front burner case and will remain on the front burner nine people were shot five people were run over by cars during a press conference Wednesday morning Smith said investigators rug covered on a hundred and eighty one shells shell casings and put this in perspective okay if I decided I was going to let you hear the duration of time for a hundred and eighty one rounds I could say bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang that's ten multiply times eighty that's three minutes if you want every second everyone around every second I don't so these were assault weapons so they were they were firing probably at a very very fast clip but you're talking about basically sustained gunfire for three straight minutes one second at a time that's an eternity people running and driving and trying to get out of the way I mean I excuse me yeah we didn't I I haven't seen anything from some of the leaders in our city and in our county have they have they declared a state of emergency to investigate this event it is our task force a Blue Ribbon committee a panel is there does anybody care you want to know what all the honest truth about this you want to know why you want to know why the the the political powers that be just don't pay much attention to it you know why this is right you know why this is because because you have politics being played at the expense of the citizens and the taxpayers and the people who get up and go to work and try to make a life for their families and their kids every single day doing the right thing and nobody will lobby for regular people like that just regular ordinary people get not going to work try to take care of their kids helping the kids get home safe hoping they get to and from the job there is no one there's no there's a lobby group for that there's no advocacy group for people who follow the rules they don't have that you know they say the smallest minority is right you know the smallest minority as the individual is the smallest minority the smallest minority is the individual and and that that individual has nobody lobbying for them so you take forty houses on our block fifty houses on a block fifty houses in the neighborhood nobody's going to lobby for for those folks why because you know the we just were do we listen to the people who can write big checks and can bedroom turned out big groups and who can who can do all that kind of stuff the politicians and I don't care what the party is additions don't pay attention the individual that's a shame because you had a coarsening of the culture we will accept a certain amount of violence generally speaking will condemn it will be sad about it will reflect upon it and we're gonna get right back on our tablets and R. I. pads in our iPhones and our fruit ninja and our fort night in our single player shooter games which can go right back to the wild bad people came in and shot at innocent people as of Wednesday CMPD still hasn't determined a motive in the shooting but what could the motive pay I was so angry I went in and shot the place up what's what's the motive it's pretty clear death destruction initialism so what it is maybe disagree I love to hear from you about whatever new stock of ten nine nine three W.
