"Versus a native woman. The first native american cabinet secretary in us history interior secretary. Deb haaland who used to be congressman from new mexico told the associated press that gabby potatoes cases reminder of missing native american. She said anytime woman faces assault rape murder kidnapping any of those things. It's very difficult. My heart goes to any family who has to endure that type of pain. And so of course. My heart goes out to the young woman who was found in wyoming. But where i can make a difference in particular is and addressing the missing and murdered indigenous peoples crisis which has occurred since the beginning of colonization of indigenous people on this continent for about the last five hundred years and it continues Interior secretary deb holland said You've used the example just of wyoming. Mary catherine nagel. Where gabby body was found right next to the grand teton national park. When it comes to missing indigenous people absolutely in montana they have a statewide commission and they released a report and from two thousand. Twenty twenty twenty percent or maybe twenty one percent basically one fifth of all the homicides in the state of indigenous people that as a result of historical practices in the united states. We're not one fifth of the population in the united states. Today and i know native people. Don't make up a fifth of the population in wyoming but for them to be a fifth for us to be a fifth of the motors in homicides in that state is outrageous that you know as many others who work in. This area have have documented. We also have a real lack of data because for a lot of our native women and families. There's simply no point in. According to the federal law enforcement who has jurisdiction is not going to do anything or unfortunately in many instances to We've seen corrupt. Visa law law officers actually harasser sexually assault are native women. There's a case in the montana supreme court about that right now. Where officer assaulted a native woman. And so we know that the data out there is actually under reported as is and it's a huge crisis in you know i'm just thankful that democracy now is is willing to create space to talk about it. Called black girl gone talk about why well thank you for having me so the the main reason why i started the bond gone podcast was number. What i you know. I was a fan of true crime but like many things. And you know this country. There is an underrepresentation of of black women women of color and these stories and what i noticed was that consumers of true crime especially true true crime podcast have been very intricate in solving some cases or having cases reopened or bring attention to cold cases and missing person cases But because the genre is dominated by stories of white people and white women those are the cases that get the attention and get the pressure and so i decided you know what if i was able to do this. But focusing on black women and potentially bringing that attention to these cases and helping to find these missing women helping to solve some of these cold cases by just getting the public interested in these women's stories And one of my angles was that. I wanted to humanize these victims. Because like you said one of the things that people still connected to the gabby petito ks. They can see her life. They can see her pictures and so they can see themselves and her and so i feel like it's important for people to also see themselves in black women and women of color because we are also victims of these crimes but we are mothers sisters daughters. We are college students. Were all of these. Things that are can be relatable to people and so. I felt like it was really important for this podcast to be out there and to highlight these women and their stories. Can you tell us caracul. Story amara yes so care. Kohl's a young woman missing from chicago. Illinois she was. I'm sorry she was three months pregnant at the time. She went missing in february October two thousand eighteen. I'm sorry she was a postal worker and here had a doctor's appointment that day that she went to the day that she went missing. She was supposed to go to the shedded ultrasound appointment she went. Her family spoke to her that day and then she called how to work the next day and no one has seen cure coal sense. There was very popular video. That was out that had what the public thought for a long time was cure colds in the video but just In february of this year it was revealed that this entire time when we thought that was chemicals in the video. It wasn't careful than the video and the police were aware of this. The there's been no suspects named in her case her The father of her unborn child was a person of interest but he was kind of allowed to just move out of state. And there's been very little movement on the case and the past few years. Her family is still out there The postal service had offered a reward for her for information about her disappearance. But there's there's really been very little national coverage and there's been very little movement on the case and the past few years. What about the family that reached out to you. Because you're doing black girl gone the podcast. Jennifer blackman yes so jennifer black men. She is a mother missing from a river rogue michigan. I got a message from a friend of hers about two months into doing. The podcast asked me to cover the story of their friend who has been missing since december twenty second twenty twenty and one of the things that they really wanted this to be out there and at the time when i did episode. I really didn't even have that big of a following But she just wanted somebody to tell her friends story and put this information out there. And so yeah. Jennifer has been missing from river road since december. Twenty second twenty twenty She has four children. Her daughter just went off to college. She miss christmas. She mr registration. And when i spoke to the friend of hers last week there has been no information. No movement on the case Since then and that's just kind of like a steam that happens with these stories of these missing. Black women is dead there. There is nothing. The police are hesitant to release information. Suspects are allowed to move away or to disappear and so the families are really left kind of trying to do this on their own so again. An estimated sixty four thousand black women or girls are missing in the united states. The national center for missing and exploited children estimates out of six hundred.

"Cliven runs joke into the ground k. L. a. v. a. n. So the thing about marxism marxism is always saying. They've always got critical theory. The reason they've got critical theory is because marxism doesn't work as a positive thing as a way of running. An economy marxism ruins everything socialist ruins everything because it puts all the power at the top. Just like i said. But as a critical function as a critical function it sometimes sees the flaws in capitalism it sees ways the capitalism can become oppressive. And so you can listen to marxist criticism as long as we understand it. What they're thinking is we're criticizing this because we want install marks and we should be saying no no you can criticize it because the power of capitals can take away. Your liberty to capitalism is the best economic system but people get rich and they get powerful and they forget what made them rich and powerful. Why is jeff bezos rich. Why is jack boots. Dorsey rich. Why is mark zuckerberg rich because individuals made choices to use their platforms. that's why individuals may choices. That's how capitalism works individual may choices. And they got richard richard because they weren't giving individuals what they want and at some point. The light bulb goes off. You get so rich you get so powerful and get so separated and alienated from the common man. Who made you rich that you think you know what would be a good idea if i had the power to tell people what to say if i had the power to tell them that those books shouldn't be on my platform because you're not allowed to read that idea you're not allowed to have that thought right so they start to think. Oh we can do this from the top down socialism. Same thing. they've got it all figured out. But it's all about incompetence. I don't know if you saw this this. This actually made me choke up. I was watching The olympic women these olympic gymnasts testifying before the senate judiciary committee and telling them about. You've probably heard about this guy. What was his name. Larry nassar larry. Nassar was the doctor. The governing body of gymnastics usa gymnastics. These girls come in there. Thirteen fourteen fifteen year old girls. We're going to choke. It makes i mostly because it makes me angry They come in and they've dedicated their childhoods. They've given their child as wait for athletic. Excellence and you've seen these gyms sir. Amazing what they do they give it away. They come to the usa gymnastics the governing body of the sport. The guy who is like the massage therapist trainer or whatever he is guy. Dr larry nassar and he uses his authority to molest them right. He he he's a child molester. I mean these are little girls. Essentially he uses them his authority to molest them they finally go to the fbi and the fbi in conjunction with the olympic committee and with us ages gymnastics conspires to dump the case. So i'm not gonna play some of the worst testimony because some of it was a really it it'll make your head spin The things that were done to these children. I mean they're not children any more the young women now but like they were children. Then you know it'll it'll make you start to have those violent fantasy especially men have those line. Fantasies are just getting these guys alone for five minutes in a room right. Here's michaela moroni one of the top gymnasts explaining what happens cut seven. This was very clear. Cookie cutter pedophilia and abuse. And this is important. Because i told the fbi all of this. And they chose to falsify my report and to not only minimized my abuse but silence me yet again. I thought given the severity of the situation. They would quickly for the sake of protecting other girls but instead it took them fourteen months to report anything. When larry nassar in my opinion should have been in jail that day. The fbi usoc in usa g idly by as dozens of girls and women continued to be molested by. Larry nassar they fired none of these f. b. i. Agents is james comey. fbi jeff daniels. Remember if dan how honest we once you've once you're not tell the truth is the truth. Is everything these guys. Were dumping this case. One of the one of the agents. I think his name was jeff. Abbott was conspiring with usa. Gymnastics to give jobs so he was covering up from the. I assume that's what happens. They haven't fired anybody. They got their pensions some of them. Some of them were let go. Some of them were pushed out of the fbi but they're not they're not imprison their non prison. I don't know why they're not in prison. Nobody seems to be in prison except the guy the doctor. They got him So he's gone for life. Think sixty years or something like that. But but you know this. It's because they've lost the value of what they do. The thing is that the left wants you to be woke. But really if you just do what you do with excellence dedication with truth with honesty you make the world a better place. If you're a writer you right as well as you can. If you're a gymnast. New gymnasts as well as you can. If you're a doctor you treat people with respect and take care of them. If you're a senator you pass laws. None of them are doing this the so busy posing the so busy telling us how woke they are the so busy telling us about their competence that they ruined everything you know why why people were so sad about norm macdonald dine people saying he was the funniest man in the world. You know he was. He was absolutely one of the top comedians of the world but there are other funny people in the world. He was an artist. He was an artist and he put the values of his art. I lost jobs. He lost fame. He lost money. He lost friends to create good humor to create good jokes. That's a beautiful thing. He was fired from the biggest job he ever had. He never got a bigger job than this. He was fired from saturday. Night live because he wouldn't stop telling the truth about oj simpson. Here's a one of the jokes he told about o. J. simpson when simpson brought out a book called. I want to tell you this twenty one and has buck oj. Simpson says he would have taken a bullet or stood in front of a train for nicole. Man i'm gonna tell you that is some bad luck when the one guy would've died for you..

"Co now presented by the jeanine agencies. Biles has got back into the headlines. Here and This time she was testifying against the fbi and the us olympic committee they Just some strong words and strong accusations about the fbi. That really no one is saying are false. I mean pretty much. Everybody is agreeing. That the fbi messed up olympic gymnast. Simone biles held back tears on wednesday. She told lawmakers how the fbi and us jim gymnastics. Olympic officials failed to stop the sexual abuse that she and hundreds of other athletes suffered from. Former dr larry nassar play a clip. Real quick here from abc seven. With some of your gonna hear a couple of congress. People talk you're going to hear simone biles talk as well here and just kind of take you through this story just a little bit. Here's abc seven about the simone biles test testifying to be clear. I blame larry nassar. And i also blame an entire system that enabled perpetrated his abuse. Nassar was sentenced to up to one hundred seventy five years in prison in twenty eighteen from molesting hundreds of gymnasts an actuality. He turned out to be more of a file than he was a doctor. Senators are asking how the fbi overlooked these painful accusations and bungled investigation into nassar. I had two separate opportunities to do. Its job and it failed in a scathing report in july. The justice department inspector general found. Fbi agents failed to respond with the urgency required once. They learned about the allegations in twenty fifteen. The report said f. b. i. Agents then tried to cover up their mistakes. The agency's failures allowed a sexual predator to continue to abuse. More than seventy young women. That is inexcusable. Fbi director christopher. Wray also testifying. He was not in charge of the agency at the time of the investigation. But the f. b. i. has said its handling of the case was appalling. The actions and inaction of the fbi employees detailed in this report are totally unacceptable. So you can hear kind of the the the motion right and some of the sickness that you can hear in simone biles voice even just however many years later having to relive something like that is just i mean i. it's horrific. It is horrific in one of the clips. Simone biles says that larry nassar is right where he belongs in. she's not wrong. She goes out to say to be clear. I blame larry. Nassar and i also blame an entire system than a enabled in perpetrated his abuse. She said before the senate judiciary committee alongside fellow gymnast. Michaela moroni alley razman and maggie nicols byles outta the usa gymnastics and the us olympic and paralympic committee failed act while the fbi quote turned a blind eye. It's i mean what's going to come out of this. This is what. I want to know like the whole reason for this judiciary committee. Why you've got the new head of the fbi. Say and yeah. They messed up they. They didn't pay attention. So what happens. Now i mean do these gymnasts are they do they. File lawsuits against the fbi do they. I mean what happens and this is just another stain. Another stain on the usa olympic committee especially in the gymnastics world. Byles added that the usa gymnastics and the us olympic and paralympic committee failed. Act again. While the turn that blind eye the emotional hearing paint a damning picture of the fbi which botched botched the nassar investigation so badly that he was able to continue abusing more victims for over a year before he was finally arrested. Fbi director. Chris rate made no excuses. You just heard him talk he also He fired one of the agents who had falsified the details of maroney's two thousand fifteen interview about the abuse on no planet is what happened. In this case acceptable he said later. Adding the conduct of the agents who botched the case was beyond the pale. Mikhail maroney had She not as much Not tears there is anything like that. But more anger ner voice maroney recalled. How in two thousand fifteen. She spent three hours on the phone telling the fbi the details of her story that our mother had not even heard including accounts of sexual abuse. She endured during the olympic games in london by nasser whom she described as more of a pedophile than he was a doctor. Here's the thing that frustrates me. Just a little bit. His when this story came out. I mean rocks the sports world right. It rocked everything but now that this is still going on you. Don't see as much coverage about it. This is absolutely a life altering life altering problem that has been plaguing gymnastics for quite some time. It is nowhere to be found on the top headlines on the four letter network in the sports world is nowhere to be found. Nassar in case you're wondering Nassar has been sentenced found guilty in three separate cases with one of the prison sentences. Running up to one hundred and seventy five years so that creep a pedophile. That piece of garbage will be in prison until the day he dies. It was not until july of this year however that she said the justice department inspector general revealed an escape the report. What the fbi actually did with the information she provided it failed to document it for a year and a half and misrepresented what she told them about her experience. Not only did the fbi. Now report my abuse but when they eventually documented it my report seventeen months later. They made entirely false claims about what i said. Maroney said this is something that has to absolutely change. Look there are a lot of lot of terrible people out there. Looking to take advantage of the youth men and women alike boys and girls alike but we have to. We have to know. We have to let people know regardless of race regardless of gender regardless of sexuality. If something like this happens to you that you're going to be represented fairly accurately and quickly and that your report is going to be taken seriously especially when you had in this situation with the us gymnastics team when you've had so many people come forward with it. So many people come forward with it. And from that national stage talking about larry nassar.

"Good evening. Thank you for joining us. Their names faces are synonymous with sporting. Excellence but simone biles and her former teammates not before congress to talk about their olympic achievements instead they were telling wrenching stories of abuse. Demanding answers and action. Here's abc's congressional correspondent. Rachel scott emotional and deeply personal testimony today from some of the most elite gymnasts in the world to be clear. I blame larry nassar and i also blame an entire system that enabled and perpetrated his abuse. These individuals clearly policies and were negligent and executing their duties nassar found more than one hundred new victims to molest. It was like serving innocent children up to a pedophile on a silver platter. The woman testifying before the senate. Today as it investigates the fbi's neglect and inaction on abuse accusations against dr larry nassar the former head physician for the us. Women's olympic gymnastics team. This hearing is one of our last opportunities to get justice. We ask that you do. What is in your power to ensure those that engaged in wrongdoing are held accountable under the law to see the emotion to see their hearts out there. Does he hear every word about the horrors of what they went through. I'm not sure we've seen anything quite like that. Over the course of several decades hundreds of women and girls accused nasser of sexual abuse. During that time he also treated athletes at michigan state and several gymnastics clubs the doctor using his hand to penetrate them claiming that was part of the medical treatment. He was convicted and sentenced to hundreds of years in prison. Hard questions. remain about why. It took so long to bring him to justice over the past few years. It has become painfully clear. How a survivors healing is affected by the handling of their abuse. And it disgusts me. That we are still fighting for the most basic answers and accountability. Over six years later the cover up of my abuse. And the fbi's failures interview me for more than a year after my complaint are well documented. We now know there was no real. Fbi investigation occurring michaela. Maroney said she gave a detailed painful three hour interview over the phone to the fbi about her abuse. In the summer of two thousand fifteen telling agents nassar once abused her for hours. During an overseas trip. I began crying at the memory over the phone and there was just dead silence. I was so shocked at the agents. Silence and disregard for my trauma after that minute of silence. He asked is that all. Those words in itself was one of the worst moments of this entire process for me. Maroney says she also detailed. How nassar preyed on female athletes like her saying. He put her last on his treatment roster to maximize his time alone with her. This was very clear cookie cutter. Pedophilia and abuse. And this is important. Because i told the fbi all of this. And they chose to falsify my report and to not only minimize my abuse but silence me yet again. Simone biles acknowledging the pressure. She felt to compete in the tokyo games last summer. In order to keep a spotlight on this case pressure that also led her to withdraw from several events as the lone competitor and the recent tokyo games. Who was a survivor of this hor- i can assure you that the impacts of this man's abuse are not ever over or forgotten. I worked incredibly hard to make sure that my presence could maintain a connection between the failures and the competition at tokyo. Twenty twenty that has proven to be exceptionally difficult burden for me to carry after. The fbi was made aware of the allegations against nassar in two thousand fifteen. He continued seeing an abusing patients for more than a year. Until former gymnast. Rachel den hollander went public with allegations in two thousand sixteen. It was just after my fifteenth birthday. I saw him for approximately a year and he abused me between ten and thirteen times during that timeframe he penetrated me eventually at analii. She filed a criminal complaint with the michigan state police and shared her story with the indianapolis star during the floodgates wide open with hours. We had women calling the tip line that was sent out by the end of the day. We had twelve other survivors. Who had come forward in july of this year. The department of justice's inspector general release the findings of its investigations. How the fbi handled the nassar case the report saying senior officials in the fbi's indianapolis field office were usa. Gymnastics was headquartered field to respond with urgency that the allegations require failed to mitigate the ongoing threat posed by nasser and doj. inspector general. Michael hauritz found that as the controversy blew up. Fbi officials did not take responsibility for their failures instead trying to cover it up providing incomplete and inaccurate information. We question about their response. I'm deeply and profoundly sorry to each and every one of you. And i'm especially sorry that there were people at the fbi who had their own chance to stop this monster back in two thousand fifteen and failed and that is inexcusable. Fbi director christopher wray today confirming the termination of one agent involved in the case but that agent had been fired just two weeks ago. Ray did not overseeing the fbi during the nasser investigation. But he was pressed on. Y nassar was not stopped sooner. I don't have a good for you. It is utterly jarring to me. It is totally inconsistent with what we train our people on horri- confirming the fbi agents who handle maroney's case lie during his investigation. What we do at that point is make the referral to prosecutors to assess them because that's who needs to make the decision whether or not there will be charges brought nassar was indicted in december twenty sixteen on federal child pornography charges as lawsuits piled up against him. How do you plead nassar pled guilty to seven counts of first degree criminal sexual assault on ten girls three of those charges involving victims under the age of thirteen the testimony from one hundred and fifty six women and girls who confronted their monster in court at his sentencing. Hearing was the first time the world heard the full extent of nassar's depravity you are pure evil without my knowledge or consent is engaged to my first sexual experience by kindergarten. You use my body for six years for your own sexual gratification. The woman who have launched the battle. Rachel den hollander was the last to testify. Do you have fashioned for yourself a prison. That is far far. Worse than any i could ever put you in Pity for that. Nasser was sentenced to sixty years in federal prison on child pornography charges and up to one hundred and seventy five years in michigan state prison michigan state. University agreed in two thousand eighteen to a five hundred million dollars. Settlement with hundreds of nassar's accusers while usa gymnastics has proposed a four hundred twenty five million dollars settlement. Neither entity admitted to wrongdoing as part of that settlement nassar is currently serving his federal sentence in a florida prison. The woman testifying today one federal agents involved in the case to pay a price to we also want to see them at least be federally prosecuted to the fullest extent. Because they need to be held accountable. This story is let's hope. A watershed moment in gymnastics. I will always remember the stage of the espy awards when they won. The arthur ash virgil survivors of larry. Nassar came from stage left at stage right and it was breathtaking in its four and his awfulness for future generations. Let's certainly hope that usa gymnastics as been able to write some of these wrongs. All we are asking for. Is that when a child goes into gymnastics or goes to school that they can be spared abuse we've been victim shamed online over and over again. Even gas lately been made to feel that we don't matter and i never want another child to feel that way again..

What are they saying right at the. Fbi knew basically in the summer of twenty fifteen. The usa gymnastics had done an investigation. Went to the fbi office in indianapolis. That's where usa gymnastics headquarters are and and reported it. Usa gymnastics officials described graphic information that had been provided by ms maroney ms nichols and ms race men and inform the fbi that all three athletes were available to be interviewed. However it wasn't until six weeks later on september. Louise radnofsky was the hearing. There were a lot of questions in the senate hearing about why. The agents from the indianapolis field office had not been criminally charged. Fbi director christopher wray referred those questions to the justice department who he said had declined to prosecute and the justice department did not send the attorney general or the deputy attorney general or another figure to the hearing more. And as i which was the all important measure of engagement and sort of what they were organizing the company around around this time we have spoken to several these executives about it and their main points are any algorithm is going to have its problems. Any algorithm is going to risk giving some folks who wanna game at a leg up. And that's why we have an integrity team in the integra team is in fact the group that made a lot of these reports that we saw that were flagging the problems. "Welcome back to another episode of reality life with casey. Hold that you've had a great week and to tell you. I've been laughing so hard watching episodes of the white lotus on hbo. It don't get a ton of time to watch scripted tv shows. And if i do watch it you know it's good and it is so funny. Steve zahn who plays the husband to connie britton in the series. He's just so funny but it was all filmed at the four seasons. Maui and that's where i got married so it's kind of nostalgic when i watch it but think of me when you're watching scenes of that show at the infinity pool because dan and i were the last couple to get married in that spot before they tore it up and made it into a pool. Of course that's the same weekend that i saw john mellencamp and really wanted to ask him to walk down the but i just thought he think i was so weird and to this day i deeply regret it. But i'm telling you. White lotus is so funny and also if you like white lotus. You're like this new series on. Hbo i've talked about it before. It's really funny. It's called small town. News kp vm. Parole but the title really is small town. News it's on. Hbo airing august second and it is a reality show about a privately owned tv station in the small desert town in nevada. A really really interesting group of characters that work there. It's really funny so white lotus small town news on. Hbo right up your alley. I've been watching the olympics. I watched this other series on peacock. Tv called golden. The journey of usa gymnastics elite team and walked away from it feeling. Just just feeling like these athletes are under more pressure than they ever have. And so when. Simone biles announced that she was withdrawing from the team competition on the twenty-seven following a stunning breakdown at the long delayed twenty twenty olympics citing mental health concerns. I just felt such empathy for her given what they have. All all of these athletes and gymnastics have had to endure over the last few years. As you know. Simone was also one of dr nassar's victims. He was the team doctor for the gymnastics team. And he was abusing them over. The course of many years and many who worked in in gymnastics knew and did nothing of it. So you already have that the fact that she's going back to the place where she was traumatized again olympic event and then also her own personal story. And if you're not familiar with it. She grew up in foster care. She was adopted by maternal grandparents. Her mother had drug problems. She was bullied for being so muscular. In twenty sixteen. Hackers managed to access her health records and released unauthorized information about our own mental health and medications. She was taking she was revealed in. Two thousand. Eighteen is one of more than one hundred female gymnasts who had accused. Dr larry nassar of molestation and then the olympics were delayed and she thought about quitting because it brought on depression so think of that that she's a twenty four year old woman who has been in leach amnesty for eighteen years. So i just my throat you know iheart has been in my throat for her and so i wanted to catch up with jennifer say who had been previous guests. She was executive producer of athlete. A which is a must watch. Docu documentary on net flex about the gymnasts and what they had to endure under the care of. Dr larry nassar. That was just nominated for an emmy awards. So i wanted to catch up with her and ask her about what's going on the with the olympics. And and kinda give everybody some. As far as what simone has been experiencing over the last few years and then i also just switchgears had the great pleasure of interviewing casey santosh who is an emmy nominated comedy writer. She's worked for the late show with david letterman. The rosie o'donnell show busy tonight best week ever and she was also the original co executive producer of what. Excuse me watch what happens live. She's so talented so funny and it was so great to catch up with her. She's got this hilarious theory for the last few weeks that jennifer lopez and ben affleck have only or not only but they've been basically setting up shots to recreate the jenny from the block video and as time has gone on people kind of like i think she might be right so with all of the footage from the yacht trip. People are kind of all putting it together now and so it kind of went viral and i just had to ask her about it now. Remember kind of. I'm in the middle of the story too because i did the interview with danny byrd. And she's the one that confirmed that madison from southern charm was face timing with a rod and then ultimately a rod and jennifer lopez broke up. Now we've all come to realize that. Ben affleck jennifer lopez. We're each other's true love. So i do feel like. I should officiate. The wedding or at least be invited. Because i really was a part of the process of getting them back together so i just had the best time talking to cassie. I know that you will love her too. And she's this great story about working at the late show with david letterman. So i'm so excited for this episode. So here we go. Jennifer stay is a.

Since the nassar scandal broke and simone biles finds herself in a unique position. She's the last self identified nassar survivor remaining on team usa. When i spoke to smiles recently she made clear that from her perspective continuing to compete and put herself out. There meant that a spotlight would remain on the scandal that it couldn't be swept under the rug. And perhaps that this part of that some of the answers that she and the other gymnasts still want want so wrong might eventually come to this olympics. Simone biles won't just be usa gymnastics best. "Under fire for it's handling of the sexual abuse claims involving former usa gymnastics. Doctor larry nassar tonight with the inspector. General has now uncovered saying the fbi disregarded allegations by gymnasts and later made false statements to cover their mistakes. And just in this evening. The fbi now saying the actions of certain fbi. Employees were inexcusable. Here's pierre thomas in a devastating assessment a new report by the justice department's inspector general bluntly states. Fbi agents failed to respond to the allegations. Against dr larry nassar. Who's been convicted of molesting some of the nation's most prominent female gymnasts the report slams the fbi saying it also failed to respond with the urgency the allegations required and failed to take other steps to mitigate the ongoing threat posed by nasser. His victims say the former physician for usa gymnastics was a monster citizen. Two thousand eighteen to up to one hundred and seventy five years in prison for assaulting hundreds of athletes including olympic stars alley razman and michaela maroney. The world's best simone biles is also identified herself as a survivor of abuse by nassar and in two thousand nineteen blamed many in positions of responsibility for not protecting the athletes. One job protect now. That new report raising questions about whether as many as seventy young athletes were solid. The fbi fumbled their investigation into nassar. According to the report after first hearing of the allegations in two thousand fifteen for a month agents failed to flag authorities who could have taken action. The report also found the controversy blew up. Fbi officials did not take responsibility for their failures but instead tried to cover it up providing incomplete and inaccurate information when questioned about their response david tonight the fbi issuing a statement calling the bureau's hailing the case appalling that statement also calling the actions of some fbi personnel quote inexcusable. And a discredit to the organization. David alright pierre thomas on the breaking headline thank you and from capitol hill tonight senate democrats announcing they have agreed now on a three point five trillion dollar plan for what they call a non traditional infrastructure plan. They believe they can pass with no republican support. So let's get rachel scott on the hilton rachel. What's in the plan. Do they have all democrats on board to pass it. David the president telling reporters. Today he believes democrats can get this done but he knows that he cannot afford to lose a single vote from his own party. He arrived on capitol hill today to rally support for this plan meeting democratic senators behind closed doors for roughly an hour where he told them that they must stand united on this front much of this three point. Five trillion dollar package is still being worked out with our told that it is sweeping including funding for everything from childcare to climate change immigration reform. Much of that would be paid for by increasing taxes on the wealthy as well as top corporations but still you have a handful of moderate democratic senators. I spoke to today who say they have serious concerns about inflation as well as the size and the scope of that package. David this in the meantime rachel where do things stand on the part of more traditional infrastructure. That's how some label it that republicans democrats had been working on together. Bridges roads broadband for one democrats and republicans have been meeting for weeks now trying to hash out. The final details of that bipartisan infrastructure. Package the biggest hang up right now. Continues to be how to pay for six hundred billion dollars in new spending democrats. Do wanna get that bill on the senate floor by next week but the reality is david they just are not there yet. You're tracking it all for us. Thank you rachel. We turn next tonight to iran and to an alleged plot to kidnap an american citizen. Here in new york city tonight. The fbi says they have foiled the plot to kidnap the us based journalist. Here's abc's chief. Global correspondent martha raddatz for more than a year says. The indictment iranian intelligence has been plotting. The extrordinary kidnapping of one of iran's most prominent critics must see john an american citizen living on american soil. I know that this is the is the nature of this doniger. Probably but i always owed that here in america in new york. I'm safe the fbi. Alerting the journalist and author months ago that iran had hired private investigators to track her every move including installing a live high definition video feed of her brooklyn. They showed me photos from my private life. The photos of my husband me walking around like watering my beautiful garden. They even took picture of my My stepchildren after moving her from safe house to safe house. Ah linda johnson now posting this video to twitter showing police parked outside her home saying they were there to protect her. The justice department now indicting four iranian officials who they say considered using military style speedboats to take her from new york to venezuela where she could then be sent to iran where prison or worse was a near certainty the white house today condemning what it called iran's dangerous and despicable reported plot to kidnap a lynn ajad but saying negotiations on nuclear talks will continue torturing kidnapping you cannot downplay the levin of the brutality of such a regime just because of having nuclear deal with them. Ronnie and officials indicted are all in iran but in iranian woman living in california who officials say provided financial services was arrested and if convicted. She could definitely face extended prison time but the iranian themselves. David said the charges are baseless and ridiculous. David martha raddatz tonight mark. Thanks when we come back here. "Elizabeth. We are so delighted to have you with us. Thank you thank you thanks. It's a pleasure thank you. Hello everybody from all over the place. It's lovely to be with you. Yes i wanna jump right in to do your new book because i fall. We get grabbed by the tidal. Cassandra speaks can you just have to come up with that title. Who is cassandra. Let's just start writing with that. Well i've always loved mythology and religious texts. You know. I just love reading whether it's the bible or the koran or the buddhist texts or the hindu texts. I've just always just because humans learn through stories. that's how we learn. So i've been fascinated with stories and i didn't take me long to notice even way back in college that wow most of the books we love. Heroes tales the parables the myths they're written untold by men because back in the day. Ps also a lot now. The storytellers were men. And there's nothing wrong. With the stories. Men tell and the values men tell their stories from but a big swath of humanity was left out of the storytelling so when packing Reading reinterpreting everything. From adam and eve to chinese stories to the greek myths and as i was writing and i was writing about one of the greek town. The tale of cassandra we were in the midst of the metoo movement. Now i know that seems maybe like ancient history. Now we've all been through so much but really it was just like a year and a half ago and one night. I was watching television on. I was watching the televised trial of those young girls who had been molested by their doctor. Dr larry nassar and the judge in rare way of dealing with the trial. First of all allowed it to be televised and allowed one hundred twenty five girls to tell their story in front of the cameras with dr nassar sitting there and for years and years thirty years he'd been at it for years and years. These young women most of whom were olympic athletes had told their mothers had told their parents had told their coaches that college coaches the us olympic team coaches. They've told them that this man had been molesting them but no one believed them. And i was reading the story of cassandra. At the time. Cassandra was a princess. She was the most beautiful princess of the king of troy and troy was an ancient city. That was often at war with greece and she was so beautiful in lowering all the men wanted to marry her including the gods apollo. The son of zeus wanted to marry her. Zeus wanted to marry her and apollo offered her a gift. The gift of being clairvoyant. That she could be able to see into the future. She would see what was going to happen to her family. And her countrymen and her world and she wanted that She's very spiritual person she she wanted to be able to see into understand so she accepted the gift but he neglected to say that she would have to have sex with him right away after she got the gift but she didn't want to and he was furious so as the story goes he spat in her mouth in put a curse on her. Cassandra you will be clervoy int- but no one will believe you. And for years. She saw what was coming. She saw the war. She saw the trojan horse. She saw her brother's all dead. She saw her city in ruins and she would say it but no one would believe her. So as i was watching these young women. I thought they are cassandra's. They are telling their truth their experience but this time they're being believed and i thought that's what i want this book to be about changing the way the old story ends so it doesn't end with women not being heard women not being believed so that we had meant to who knows their inner feminine. So that finally. We respect that part of ourselves so deeply. It's really this part. That i was leading in the meditation and we get so much clout in musculature. That are stories begin to matter an actually change what it means to be human

DOJ Investigates Olympic Groups

"US Justice Department is investigating sexual abuse within US Olympic organizations the following the case against former national gymnastics team Dr Larry Nassar currently serving ineffective life sentence for sexually assaulting women and girls. The Federal Inquiry Creek comes ahead of the two thousand twenty Olympics in Tokyo joining me now with more details is Wall Street Journal reporter Rebecca O'Brien Rebecca. This seems like a widespread investigation allegation which groups have you found that are under investigation right now by the Justice Department so it is a wide ranging investigation and it's actually I think best thought of as multiple investigations that interconnect and the important bodies to think about here are the US Olympic Committee the Center for Safe Sport USA gymnastics and and USA Taekwondo and the FBI which is sort of a side issue but think of it as like a layer cake right this mitigation which is being led by multiple offices offices in the Justice Department along with irs criminal investigators is looking at bad actors who are coaches or doctors in the gym level of various Olympic Sports. It's across the United States and then secondarily. There's an investigation into potential cover ups and maybe financial and business wrongdoing by the national governing bodies are N. G. Bees like USA gymnastics or USA Taekwondo and the third level here. Is You limit committee to the big overarching organization Asian. They're looking you know as well their response to sexual abuse allegations another potential financial wrongdoings now how big of an impact did the Larry Nassar Sir case have on the current investigations. This was pretty blockbuster case shook up the world of gymnastics in the Olympics too large extent what I think I mean the Larry Nassar case it slowly began building came first surfaced right after the Rio Olympics more than three years ago now and what I find incredible is that what the Nassar case not only did it first of all you know hundreds of women came forward with allegations but it really also opened shed light on all these other cases like in USA taekwondo or there had been allegations and some mm cases convictions of coaches that had kind of been lost to history and these this repeated. There's a trend over decades of misconduct induct and sex-abuse in a number of different sports that no one really had paid close attention to on a grand scale so the national case really not only was had a tremendous impact on on gymnastics in the Olympic Committee but it also just opened the floodgates as it were now we are looking ahead to the twenty twenty games in Tokyo what under the implications for the US Olympic system as we have been talking about the Nassar case did cause a lot of damage to the institution yet national case did a lot of damage image to USA gymnastics but it also had some blowback on the US Olympic Committee because of executives there who were informed of it and didn't necessarily take steps that many people in the public thing you know they they didn't talk about it more publicly. They didn't take steps to advance the investigation and they leave with egging their face and what is important about these investigations. I the thing is that they show the continued legal pressure on the USOC. There's political pressure with also legal and potentially criminal pressure on some of the executives or former executives of these organizations and going into twenty twenty. They're going to want to resolve this. I mean not only do you. WanNa make sure people are safe going to the Olympics but also it looks bad if the USOC he is heading to the next Olympics with this cloud of uncertainty and investigations over their head and of course you know in nine years they're going to be hosting the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles so oh you know we'll see how they resolve this
