"Radio 6 10 w tvn sports. Wow. And obviously the big story even nationally over the weekend, Ohio State having to cancel their game with Illinois. We welcome Mat McCoy did the show right now. Matted that they it seems like from that press conference and Saturday, there's still hope there's still possible miracle that would just one practice this Thursday. We can take on Michigan State. Yeah, I, um I will say when the game got canceled, I thought the chances of playing Michigan State Bill Conley and Jeff Logan I we wanted we were on from 10 to noon just talked about what had happened. And, uh, I was very mean because no one has been able to do it yet. So far, once a game is canceled, they end up canceling two games. So I was very doubtful and still quite honestly am doubtful. That'll highest ease could be able to play, however, listening to Gene Smith listening to Dr Jim Borchers. I'm a little more optimistic that they might be able to play this weekend because they caught it. They actually felt like they could have by the Big 10 guidelines played this weekend against Illinois, but they felt like Rate of positivity. You were really putting guys at risk and the chance of it really, to spread wide spread with the team, so they they took the route of Let's try to stop it now so we can play next week. And so I'm a little more optimistic that they might be able to play. But to your point, Ryan a said a zoo long as we can get on the practice field by Thursday and have a Thursday practice. Ah, Friday walk through. We should be good to go and that's crazy. I think that you could have one on the field practice and go out there and play But you know They've practiced a lot. They know the system. It would be game planning. It would be doing a lot of mental reps and things like that to get ready and you know again. It's Michigan State, right? Not a great opponent. They did just upset Northwestern. I'm not saying it would be easy with only one practice. Lot of higher state with the talent advantage. Probably feels like Yeah, we could survive this week with just one practice. You made a good point earlier. It could be worse. It could be Clemson. Yeah. If they were playing Clemson if they were playing even, you know. Wisconsin or something in the Big 10 title game. I don't know. One practice is going to get it done, but and I don't know quite honestly. If they're able to play this if one practice will get it done against Michigan State. I mean, that's crazy, but I do think that they think We're good enough to beat Michigan State with one practice. I mean, I just think they think that Andre, they should think that because they're that much more talented. So what the way I see, Let's just hope that they're able to get it in because you know, one more cancelation and they're out of the big 10 title. Yeah, that's not the most important thing. Most important thing is controlling the virus again. The these guys healthy and ride a healthy but absolutely obviously everybody would like to see him in the Big 10 title game. "N Well, Ordinarily right now we'd be hearing a wound. We don't hear a woof. I just open the window. Yes, here actually got a nice letter from Ah, Nice note on Twitter from Joe, who is our traditional long time first question person. His wife, Maureen is well known as the wound lady saying Maybe you could go through the archives, you know, like they're pumping in fake crowd noise for games this year. And have ah, fake crowd noise with the Wu. We will have to work on that for future shows because we are missing Joe, we're missing all of you guys. A cz. We begin a season of bucks line. We're very happy, though, that we are with you, Matt McCoy, your host. Bill Conley is the voice. You just heard. Jeff Logan is here a cz well and has been a long time coming. Guy's toe actually get do a football season. And you know, the weirdness of bucks line, not being on location is probably going to pale in comparison. So the weirdness of playing a football game on Saturday with 1600 people in the in the stadium, and that includes the players and the coaches. I mean, the only spectator wise Jeff really is going to be The family of players and coaches. A zit is going to be and there's going to be some media members, but that's very limited to its just 2020. But, hey, at least we're playing football. Absolutely. It's a gets back to that whole idea of acceptance. You don't have to like it. But you do have to accept the way that it is. And I'm you know, I'm I'm thrilled that we found out that at least the players, families who have been very I think very active and very important into in terms of why we have big 10 football. Andi. I think it goes to a lot of the parents association at the Ohio State University that came out and rallied their troops and got together and said, Why not? And they really forced The issue to be ableto have this and I'm glad they're being rewarded with weak one that is going to begin here in Ohio Stadium on Saturday. Yeah, I not tell you away. Look. Att Dr Jim Borchers, former long snap of I wanted to ask you about that You were there when you were little when the order codes Jim Borchers was there, and he really seemed to turn the tide with the big 10 presidents with his presentation about the medical safety issues, right? It's a great guy from over in Centerville, me the thing about him. He was long snapper, and he was also the leading tackler on punt coverage. Wow, was here. Um, Nestle? Good. This guy is But yeah, he's the guy that really got him over the top. I believe you know what's really interesting, too, is I mean, you mentioned Jeff the Parents Association at Ohio State and during, you know that whole thing when it was going on Shawn Wade's dad, Randy, wait. We had on who was very vocal, and he actually staged a protest at Big 10 headquarters and got other Parents organizations involved and Cameron Babs. Mom, Amanda was on with us. She's the president of the OS, You association and both of them When they were on. People talked about the Nebraska people how they have reached out and been very vocal. And obviously, Scott Frost from the beginning was And it seems like either appropriate or a punishment for Nebraska for being so vocal if they stuck him with Ohio State on the road in the first game, But these are the two programs If if you had to look at to that made the most noise toe make football happened. Thes air the two programs absolutely in there to the programs. In the nation that both teams both programs They want over 900 football games approaching that 1000 Mark, and so that was your important It is. It is surprising. A couple other was was some pretty good tradition wasn't his vote and all that stuff. So really the parents of the Great job, anyone there How state Administration athletics. They were doing a great job before this side, not to have it. They were doing a good job over there of keeping distancing. They were having meetings outside. Intense. They're really not doing much full contact at all. And they really had things under control. It was a shame that I think it had to go through what it did to gear. Yeah, you know, I think the character that we have associate ID with the culture of Ohio State football in the last decade or so really carried over into these moments because They never quit trying to be elite in everything, Matt that they did. And I love that Ryan Day came out this week, and in his press conference, he talked about how he challenged his players. The guy's You'll either going to be champs or chumps this year, all right, and I think as silly as that may sound, I don't think there's anything more clear. As to what the message to his players were. The administration was on the same page and they basically you you have an opportunity. If you do the next right thing to be able to be part of something very special this year as a championship program If you screw it up. If you get selfish, you turn into a trump. And that's the battle. That's the bottom line to these young men, and I give him a lot of credit to the people in that bubble. They talk about their 170 people that are, in their quote unquote ah of bubble and that includes trainers and managers and secretaries and staff and everybody else associated with it. But the commitment that these people have made and it goes all the way back to march when this whole thing started. We've all been through this pandemic and not like anybody is escaped restrictions on their lives and everything but think of how well These young men and people associate with the program have performed and have followed the guidelines associated with wanting to be a champion instead of a jump. You know, it's interesting. I mean, these guys Felt safer and you guys know how it is. When you're with a football programming around those people that you know when they canceled football. They felt like that was the most dangerous thing because you weren't in that bubble environments quite as much and you weren't being monitored all the time. The reason these guys feel safe and felt so passionate Bill I think about Hey, it's safe to play is because of How things were being done in Ohio State exactly right, And they were really a head start on the thing. You look over there through what he's facility is different than when it was first built. I mean, is the city in itself. Sure, you've got full meals all the time. You got a full restaurant there. You've got course. Your weight fissile is there you got all kinds of computers, Places Academic study center over there. So really knowing, safest this place where you know as a coach, You know what your players are all the time. You know they're doing the right thing, And like, Jeff said, you know, if one guy gets a selfish attitude, it can run things for everybody and It seems like the captains have been a good job. Coaches have done a good job. The doctors have done a great job. And so the administration that one guy that you talk about Bill could be a trainer. It could be a coach. It could be an assistant somewhere. And to think that many of these coaches during this phase They're not still some of those coaches. Matt aren't going home to their families. Because of the fear. That they're going to be involved with their school age Children and they get exposed all this again. They don't want to be. The Trump took everything away from this football team as a as a family so You know, I give him a lot of credit. You think about the schedule this thing into the report for camp on on August the sixth and immediately the season gets postponed. Just you think we're going to be able to get there and it's postponed..

"Course he was shot down. It would really be in really dump a while ago when I was my glasses were fogging up, but I came over the idea of having a big, uh, plexiglass partition. Between the lines, You know, they do that net at the end of the line the goalpost point Field goals, Guys, you're in charge of pulling up that big partition just before the place started. It could be a big curtain pull up and then the quarterback would just be a surprise everybody, but one of the defense was lying up and vice versa. So you know that little extra element of fun for the You think you're sitting in the stands, you would know what was up. Who would know what Jakes We're going on before the teams did. Yeah, It's amazing. I I get the safety protocols and the precautions But you know, I there is this way too much. Public official involvement on every single step, and it's what really forced the big 10 to change course initially after releasing their schedule, and now after looking at the medical science and data and testing and what they're going to do in chief infection officers on every big 10 campus They now were smart. They were selective. They were patient. And here we are with big 10 football back. Yeah, I mean, it's going to be interesting fall, though, because you played a game yet six weeks before they play a game pretty much for 5.5 weeks. There's gonna be a 21 day quarantine for anybody test positive. You know you better you better you better just keep your quarterback in a bubble. I mean, you know, maybe even when he's playing them a minute, But you gotta keep your quarterback your top two quarterbacks in a bubble. Because imagine if the quarterback room just go with now. What do you do, You know is that grounds for Ah, postponing wall. In the case of the big game, they paint themselves into a very inconvenient on her playing nine games in nine weeks. I don't see that happening for everybody. I don't see the playing 10 games. I mean, you know, even with their schedule, which starts next week, but grass back to what we were talking about. I mean, I understand coming back, but they put a lot of parameters on it. Now that We're going to make it extremely Interesting that claim they're going to be transparent about things. Are we really going to know, though? Uh, how many? You know how many players on each team has Cove it on Friday before the game, and then on Saturday when they do the Energon testy. 15 minutes and engine test. You know these these incidents taken do now they're going to do maybe six days a week out of seven, according to Dr Jim Borchers, who was ST chief team position now, but also Was heading up the medical task force for this thing. I think he's saying, you know, you maybe give give the team at least one day off. Maybe the day after game where they don't have it tested, but back what I'm saying what it's going to cost me what is going to be grounds. For canceling a game. Uh, you know, they come up with that yet, so, but they haven't and they're going to play that kind of doing it. As the old term goes, I think I can use it on your show. Your show is almost on the Internet backwards. I mean, a little bit and the end result before they announced they're going really Finally get there. They did say, obviously one of the reasons they felt good about this, According Teo say, Dr Christina Johnson was the the accuracy Now they feel like the accuracy of the testing. And the preciseness of it will allow them to get a really good handle on the situation from day today and definitely for week a week about what's going on with each team in each environment, But you know it's still going to come down to one team is not to travel to another team to play those games each week. And, uh, that's where the real fine print gonna kick in. Thanks. And then I was think about that yesterday. Now with by waiting not having the off weeks they May Miss games. You know something? It will happen a CZ. You've seen some other postponements and just rescheduling games early on here in the return of college football and other locations, But I also thought that college football and even the college football playoff That what's wrong with them having to push that back into the 3rd 4th week of January to give teams a chance to play makeup games or get their conference championship games in at a later date? I mean, everything is fluid. Right now, there are some football games being scheduled, like in two days. I think I read with BYU, an army or something like that. So College football playoff Final four in championship game could be pushed back a month to give these conferences a chance TTO make up games that they may have lost two early Koven 19 cases. Yeah, with a magic wand. You could definitely make that happen. But one of the two finals this year the semi finals of the Rose Bowl, you know, basically the granddaddy of them all. The traditional January 1 bowl game, except one. Generally one is on Sunday. And the sugar bow. And so now you're asking those bodies agree? We'd have no problem with saying we're gonna We're gonna play the Rose Bowl. January that whatever the data is, whatever whatever money night or think, you know, January the 21st or something. Yeah, but you've got to get them to go along with it, You know, And then you've gotta forget with championship game is this year We're finished my memory I can't remember. But anyway, But then you've got a secure that stadium in a pro stadium. He's being used by the NFL that week, you know protocols in place, so it's not. It's not a simple is like Baylor scheduling a game in like 18 hours. With university Houston, which I think has happened. We're because Baylor's opening last week had to be postponed because players you know had a big outbreak of overnight game due to the hurricane. Working order. They went through there. You know some of the aftermath of that probably good for Baylor, because if you look at the big toiling away fare to get the Sunbelt last week, maybe you don't want to play those games, but that dress. Yeah, he was getting our way. No right now. You don't have somebody who's telling all profile conferences were all play. We don't play until we all can play. So You know, that's where we are in a state of big time. College football. I just think you could you maybe want to do it right now to be safe to give all these conferences who are part of the college football playoff? It looks like the Pac 12. Is coming back. Even the mountain west of the Mac may be the only conference that doesn't play. But now there's a push where it's on the these plates. There. So everything Russian, you get a whole lot of something with farmers policy perks so much I'm going to have to speed things up. You could get a new car replacement car. A total farmers will pay to replace it with a new one of the same make.

"You TVs 6 38 Thursday morning, September 17th just less than 24 hours ago announced that big 10 football is coming back Target date October 24, which is But a week later than Ah, lot of people were speculating all the long sports director Matt McCoy. I covered the story all day yesterday and Matt. I mean, a this point. Who do you kind of give the credit to mean? It was the president's vote, I suppose. That was the catalyst, but you have, you know I mean, in an incredible number of people almost begging to play, whether it's Justin Fields. It's a coach Ryan Day. Other people around the league. Of course, you have the return to competition Taskforce. You have a medical subcommittee that was a co chaired by Ohio State's doctor Jim Borchers. So I mean, there's a lot of people working on this. Who do you give the most credit to to get this done? I think in my opinion, had the decision been made, and everybody you know, was upset but kept quiet. We're not where we are today. So I give a lot of credit actually, to the parents associations of Nebraska and Ohio State. Randy Wait, whose son Sean Way now may come back may not. We'll see. But he was the first one at least at a liar State that really got vocal and got out there got in the media got on Fox got on ESPN saying, You know, we need they need to revisit this. They need to talk to us on the parents Association got involved? I I really believe that had Parents and players. Been quiet were not here. I mean, it happened because of public pressure. In my opinion, so all those people he mentioned Justine Fields Ryan Day but also The parents, Amanda Bab, who we had on Randy Wade, who we had on I think they made a big difference and put the pressure on the big 10 too. Kind of revisit this thing, And I think it worked. If they're if they're quiet, we are not here. In my opinion. Well, I mean, the thing that gets me is no fans as I understand it yet, but businesses around stadiums around the big 10 are pumped. Because they know with that football comes enthusiasm and mobility and fans and money, So that's good and as far as the campus is concerned. I mean, they're taking it seriously, not like just cart Blanche. Let's go. They say they're going to be disinfecting common areas at least three times a day. Masks will be worn indoor and outdoor at all times, with two exceptions. During strenuous exercise. We're taking part in performance based activity. So if they got the pads on their probably don't have the mask on, they're going to be cleaning out workout in weight room equipment training workouts limited in number. I'm going to social distance and they say they're going to get baseline test for Cove ID and then weekly testing dependent on level of activity from team to team, So it sounds to me kind of like what we were here in. When they cancelled. It was a lot of the players like, Look, I feel healthier and safer in the bubble than I do. Just in general pop going to class, for sure they're going to be tested starting in a week, getting regular tests and Yes, I think the safety protocols in place in the big 10 was one of the big things and you mentioned Dr Jim Borchers. He had a huge part in this with the From My understanding with the meeting's over the weekend had a big impression on the On the president's with his presentation, talking about myocarditis and the other safety measures that are in place to make sure that they keep Cove it at bay as much as possible. For these football programs. The the other thing that's interesting. Joel is I mean, with the season starting October, 27th our I'm sorry. October 24th. I mean, Usually most of the season. He's played in good weather. Good weather months. Even though the season shortened and truncated to eight or nine games. I mean, who know I guess I'm saying whether could really be a factor in this thing. I mean, you know you could have an Ohio State Michigan game. If you know that traditionally goes back to the last game on December 12th. I mean, who knows what it's going to be like here? We had a snowball in the fifties. You never know. So you know better late than never, I guess is what I'm saying. But you shall not around campus and everything. I mean, if it's ah, 20 degree day or something in December. I mean, I don't know how many people are going to be Ah, milling about campus. But of course, there's no fans involved so well, they will be W some because there always is. Yeah, So here's my big question. Eight games. With 1/9 game as the conference championship game. They're going to try to get that done the 19th and then all the selection for the national title that comes the following day. So in your mind What kind of schedule Will Ohio State because they're talking eight games and then if they do what everybody expects they play the title game. What kind of schedule is going to be most advantageous for the Buckeye? Well, they just can't lose. They're going to play. I mean, I would assume That they're going to play the six teams in their division and then to crossover games. I don't really know Joel that it matters. Who you play. You just have to tow win your games. If you're Ohio State and do it impressively, and then you can't be 81. You've got to be nine. You know, you gotta you gotta win every game. First of all, if you're right, and when you're probably not I'm assuming that the loss is going to you know, they have to go to Penn State. You can't lose depends State. You can't lose the mission. You can't lose your division games. They've got to be undefeated. They've got to be nine. Toto have a chance to be in that college football playoff. Theyjust do they can, But it doesn't matter who they play. Your I don't think it matters to the schedule is fine. We just got to take care of it. I think you know, they say the college football playoff committee says. That every years a new year we start from scratch. We do it based on merit in all this yada, yada, yada yada, but Ohio State's reputation going into this year, I think Supersedes a lot of that. They are considered one of the best teams in the ranked number two in the preseason poll before they fell out of the rankings. They're generally considered one of most talented teams, if not the most talented team in the country, so as long as they don't lose, I cannot imagine even if their schedule is weaker. They don't have as many data points as this team or that team. I can't imagine them not getting it. And one other thing. The the Pac 12 still isn't playing. Now. They've been left out of the college football playoff three times. So you know that's not a big deal. But what I'm saying is that's one Mohr. Potential like Oregon isn't going to be involved. You know, Oregon's got a really good team. They could go undefeated. That's another team. That's out of the picture that you don't have to worry about matching your resume against if that makes sense. So that's just my opinion, But I could be wrong there. You know, there could be six undefeated teams in alive stayed. You know, as Rutgers and Maryland and Indiana on their schedule on these other teams don't and maybe they get bummed, But I just I can't imagine with Justin Fields in the town, but they have coming back that if they don't If they stay undefeated and win their games..

"ESPN half serious actor channel 80 Big 10 football is coming back, but Michigan quarterback Dylan McCaffrey is not. He's opting out of the season seeking to transfer he was in the competition for the starting job reportedly fell behind that competition. His decision to opt out, coinciding with Wednesday's announcement from the big 10 that it will resume its season starting the weekend of October. 24th, ESPN college football analyst Curb Street You and I'm in a lot of others have been kind of anticipating and wondering if this they may come. You know, there was a lot of Lot of energy over the last three days from folks that a lot of us know I've talked with Dr Jim Borchers, who's been involved in his team doctor, Ohio State a kind that I played with. And I know he was part of the presentation with the presidents and chancellors China and I've privately felt for the last three or four days. This had an opportunity to maybe become a reality. And when Sunday went by they went by. I started to get a little bit anxious, wondering what's what's going on because I I really thought this might hit on Sunday or Monday, But the fact that it's finally is hit. Yeah, obviously, they're not doing this to appease. The masses and you know the social media world and the fans, the parents and the players. I think that you really have to respect the fact that they're doing this based on new new data new testing protocols that they're they're realizing are important. Obviously, to move forward in the memory. The heart. Maria is an important part of this, and I think when you add all that up, I think they felt more confident than where we were. You know about a month ago, so it's a happy day. Great day to have the big 10 back. And with that timing, it gets involved in the college football playoff. Oh, timing to be. Ah Kee provisioned here because the big time will attempt to play eight games at eight weeks. Including the Conference championship game. It'll be December 19th. It leaves no wiggle room during the pandemic because the plan announced Wednesday would allow the big tend to complete in season one day before December, 20th and December 20th is selection day for the college football playoff. Northwestern athletic director Jim Phillips. I think that's a real possibility on DH something that I know our student athletes across our 14 institutions really, really are are excited about in a chance not only with the Cfpb but within the bull structure. It's something that's been connected with the big 10 for a lot of years, so to play a regular scenes and in a meaningful way to weave it in with our partners at Fox and ESPN to do it under the lights that are student athletes, so I enjoy doing and to have a culminated the end of the year with the chance to play in the C F P and a chance to play in traditional ball games is incredibly exciting. And so the announcement becomes official Friends aren't expected to be a big 10 games on campuses throughout the season, but there will be football ESPN analyst Bobbi Carpenter. It's exciting. It's been a long road will, but I think everybody in big 10 countries happy to see this happen for these kids have the opportunity to play Should they so choose. Give me a sense of what role you think the public pressure played in this. It came from so many places for the players. I'm the coach's various politicians, Umm from families to what degree do you think that is The reason we are where we are today? I think it's a huge reason and much to the chagrin of the presidents of the university's. I think they made a premature decision and then Very intelligent people. They're highly educated. And so no one wants to kind of walk back and admit they made a mistake. And sometimes that's the best part of leadership is admitting that you made that mistake And maybe you're a little premature. Once you saw the other conferences, not following And so it is. You look at the whole scenario In total. I think that there are members of local government in these different states. It was state legislatures Congressman all trying to pull together to saying, Hey, this is a massive impact, not just psychologically for our states in our communities, but also economically, even if we can't have fans in the stands. With spending on game day is going to be up. That'll help local businesses that'll help Dr Tax dollars. And so I think that they had a big piece and then also you live in social meeting. You see it when people are critical of you did this. You did that. And you never really enjoy it. But your skin thickens a little bit to it and you get used to it. Thes University presidents have never really been a part of that. You know there used to ribbon cutting ceremonies and opening new buildings and announcing of these great research developments. Never does anyone criticize them for a call they made on third down or play? They didn't make it, so I don't think that they were fully emotionally prepared to just be bombarded. Once there was a crack in the door, where it's not a consensus. Nebraska wants to and turned out Ohio State did in Iowa. I ultimately think that the tidal wave became so big that they began staring at it. And when you consider the fact that the majority of players more than 50% of the football players are black, it also makes you wonder about all this. All the slogan is, um, about black lives matter. Apparently. Not as much as money, obviously, number of considerations in the mix for college athletics. The announcement, though on Wednesday by the Big 10, certainly welcome news at the White House. President Donald Trump. So I just wantto congratulate Big 10. It's going to be great. We're goingto love watching that and again. I want to recommend Pac 12 Year the only one now open up.
