"All playing out in a much larger way in communities of color. And that's where we begin. Here's our colleague from 10 10 wins Larry Mullins. Thank you for joining us for this very important conversation. I'm joined today by two gentlemen who? I think it helped to set some light on what we're enduring right now what we're going through and perhaps help us out of how to get out of this actually speak in terms of Dr Jeffrey Guard here. Who is America psychologist. You see his work on television and podcasts, And we're also joined by Pastor Russell, Very a teaching pastor at the Bridge Church in in Brooklyn. And he's willing to share some thoughts as well. He specializes in the gymnasium. Eladio proud and dealing with the situations that are facing us right now, as people of color personal thank you for joining us, Jeff I always think list no right into this thing. So I'm on the phone a day or so ago with a very prominent television movie producer and her son lived in L. A. And she tells me because of the craziness that's taking place in that way like it is and so many other places right now, you know her 21 year old son packed up the car. And drove from l A to their home in Dallas together way for it all, she says, all the way for 21 year old son was counting down in the car scared to death of something she thought he was just upset because he had to leave his craft in L. A is an actor. He told her. No, mom. I'm afraid for my life. He's afraid to pull up next to cars and another lane on. Did he ask her? This is Mom What happens if we run out of gas and I need to stop it Pumped gas? What's gonna happen to me? What is it that we say to young people in that age group as well as people such as myself, baby boomers to keep us from absolutely jumping off a ledge in the wake of all this that we're hearing, doctor But certainly I think what we're dealing with is a racial form of post traumatic stress disorder on DH. Certainly this comes from the years of overt racism. And now what? We're calling institutional racism, which is part of the foundation of America, So I think we need to be real with that. I think we need to let our kids know. That what they're hearing is absolutely the reality but at the same time that can't be so afraid that they have issues with living their lives and therefore talk with them about empowerment strategies, how to mitigate or minimized the possibility that a situation it will go wrong without police officers. The reality camping the night that black women and men and native women and men are significantly more likely to be killed by police, then white men and white women. This is the reality that they need to integrate into their lives, but you stay as strong As possible with some of those strategies. Okay, now Jeff and Russell loads up in there. Let's keep it real. What if the parent is not able to advise thes? I wouldn't know what to tell him. Because I have some stories of my own detailed and you know, I won't say old but older. What if I'm ill advised to be able to share with them? What? What needs to happen or what they need to do? Yeah, that's ah, important part of the story that you know, Dr. Guard Air kind of alluded to when he talked about PTSD. There's this reality of racial trauma. That is intergenerational. And that often times the first step of being able to move toward a solution. Is this even awareness on DH when we talk of trauma, But, you know, I'm I'm talking about a like a haunting pain that follows individuals because not every incidents of pain is the same as trauma but from trauma follows you, innit? It oftentimes result itself in and the sadness or anger or even depression. Just these kind of waves of emotion, and unfortunately because of stigma that's been attached to a lot of mental health issues. That is not something that in our community that we are aware of that he's even happening and therefore know howto address it and normalize treatment for so I think that's an important first step. Yeah. So I think past bury those of us who are parents have tohave the top. What is that pain Feel like that past the Berry just brought out. What is that Intergenerational ain't feel like what does it feel like? I know that you are still treated as a 2nd and 3rd class citizen and more at risk the danger in this world. Because of the color of your skin on what our experiences have been as people of color those of us who were born in the fifties sixties and 70. How was it that we were able to suppose, survive it still have a positive outlook and still love our lives knowing that we're living with this pain? Well, let me tell you the impact that it has on a 50 something male who happens to do news for living and have been for the last 40 years. When I walk into a store right now, for example, a clothing store boutique store. I still walk in, and I go immediately up to the security guard. Not necessarily agreed him or shake his hand. I need him to see me. So he'll know that I'm not coming in and I'm not walking immediately behind a clothing rack. I want him to see me to know that I'm safe. I have to make him comfortable with me. And to that end when I leave the store I stand outside the store about 15 20 seconds, sometimes pretending that I'm on my phone or texting so he'll see that. Well, if he stole something, you know you would have taken off out of here. You know, I don't bat out of hell. But now that he's standing in front of the store, so he say. Bets and I carry that all of my life, and nobody understands that. Nobody really realizes since the age of 18. I have not run through a mall and never run down this city block. I don't do anything that might be looked at as being suspicious. And so very think. A lot of what your generation is doing with black lives matter is saying pain. Oh, folks, You don't need to live that way. We thank you for everything you've done to get us to this point, but now we need to be out in the streets when peacefully protest and demonstrate on saying we don't have to swallow this anymore..

Jill had been right about that all along. Dr Guard called Priscilla immediately to give her the news. He caught her in the mall shopping with her kids, and I was just dreaming about going and getting a big, juicy burger fries. And Dr Guard calls me and says I have your results. I'm like, okay. And then I was like, Can I call you back? Because I'm in the mall right now. You know, it's kind of important. "This week thousands of global Jewish advocates were supposed to have been in Berlin for the AJC Global Forum. Unfortunately, the pandemic had other plans, but we weren't just going to cancel our critical conference, so we took the global forum virtual all week. Thousands of people from around the world have been tuning in on AJC DOT ORG to watch high level addresses, intimate conversations and fierce debates over the future of Israel, America in Europe over the course of. Of this episode, we're going to bring you. Parts of those conversations Dr Anwar. Gosh is the United Arab Emirates Minister of State for Foreign Affairs this week. He joined the J. C. Virtual. Global Forum for conversation with his friend and our chief policy officer Jason Isaacson in doing so he became the highest level official from an Arab country without relations with Israel to publicly address an American Jewish audience. Let's listen in to some of that conversation now. I want to begin by thanking the distinguish minister, not only for taking the time to share his insights with AJC and our many thousands of guests on this virtual platform, but for the multiple times that he and his colleagues in the leadership of the UAE have met with AJC over the twenty plus years that we have been regularly traveling to his country in pursuit of regional peace and cooperation and understanding or meeting with government officials when they have visited the united. States Dr Guard Gosh. It's very good to see you again. Thank you, Jason. Thank you I'd like. Like to begin by thanking you for boosting need today and I that this would be opportunity for a frank and constructive discussion, which is much needed I want closer to take the opportunity to thank ag see for what has been quite remarkable bridge to the ridge. There has been an octave work that was done to numerous visits to all the countries of ragent, all the countries of the Gulf and I think this sort of visiting and understanding the food of Fiji sees. Look over this city has been quite busted sounded, so thank you very much for that. Thank you very much. His remarks Dr Garg. The has a proud tradition of philanthropy including major charitable dishes here in the United States. How has your country contributed to the global fight against Akron bars pandemic, and what is your assessment of international cooperation in this fight generally closer to home, please talk about public health cooperation across the Middle East. How successful has it been? How can it be improved going forward? What specific role has the UAE played and I note by the way that the has twice in recent weeks, Asakusa and medical aid to the Palestinians by Israel feel free to discuss that as As well. I would actually agree with lock analysts who have said that our national responses have been more important than what I recall regional responses or googlers, every country, really as sort of look into its own and thermal situation, and this raises a lot of issues rarely about global cooperation, regional cooperation on issues such as the CAL now. If you look really adept policy, it's interesting, because in my opinion, we have come with a very I would say organized which nationally which is allowed us to actually and pry and help others and Binat relations originally and. We I think done something very successfully. Separate. Elliptical from the humanity so here for example we have no relationship with is ran, but at the same time we have recognized that this isn't Adia that we need to cooperate together because it is one that edges human beings finally from the religious affiliations at. Let's look at the long term effects of the pandemic on. The long lockdown of the widespread in deep economic disruptions, the effect that they will have on regional stability and security. Not every country in the region has the kind of resources that the UAE. Does you throw in the recent plunge in oil prices on the crisis across the region really is amplified. Are you forecasting a regional power relationship restructuring a potential conflict between states, says spike and out-migration, perhaps from the Gulf states. Where do you see a softer landing after the pandemic? I would say that things will change and things will stay the scene. To suppose that fundamental issues that we have not been able to tackle for forty and fifty and sixty s will suddenly change overnight I think is expecting too much unfortunately, but at the same time I think that we need to try and work at the edges of. So clearly I think we need to avoid rhetoric that leads plus colletion. We need to avoid confrontation because everybody will be affected the dubs. Demographics guns. Economy and so on so

We were waiting drunk out of my fucking mind, high Adami, fuck fucking mind, reeking of cigarettes and sweat, and just being a disgusting little like twenty year old twit. I had to like shoulder, but instead of just turning around which would have been the, you know, the right thing to do. I, I have to cut through this. This is my turn around turn. Around now they're going to be like worse. He going what's wrong with all. Stop it. He's getting away. Axl rose at the riot concert. He's like, get that guy, get that guy security, I'll get it. So I was like party. Exactly. You said pardon me? Pardon me. Sorry. Excuse me. Excuse me. Father for, I have to get through. If you were on a balcony looking down, you've been like, who the fuck is that kid? Why is he here? Oh my God. It was awful, and I man. Yeah. Well, I was high backstage at the garden. It was just like, oh God. Oh God. No, they can't tell no one can tell. And then I, that's the night I met Tim white and I, I was just like, oh, I just went right up to them. I'm like, oh, Mr White. I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Matt McCarthy. I'm one of the new writers. I'm from Rhode Island, super high. I'm so hot. TIMMY, help me. What do I do? You explain it to them? You're like, I thought it was a house show. So I was like, you get high before that big of a deal Mr White Mr White. Mr White year watched that show that she was crate. That's breaking bad right. That'd be Dr. Guard. I think that was the last time it would've been sometime in two thousand twelve..
