"Seeing that many man city supporters. Just a little joke. Just a little joke but doesn't land me but i can appreciate that. That is probably sick. Burn just a bit of banter you would. You would say though that this is the fa cup of course is playing wembley stadium. They have a lot of fun with the wembley stadium. If at all about how this is not the old wembley stadium that people associated with other big wembley moments like i believe. I don't think this is where the live aid was as stated here. I don't think it's where Wwe had some big big time events in the past. I think this is a new wembley stadium. And there's also the elements that they always do with football about just like in american baseball just like in baseball. We're the fields are all different sizes. Some places defenses are shorter in summer. Further out summer shorter in in certain aspects of the park summer. Further out of some parts of head hills and centerfield. They're just a lot of different ways. You can design a baseball stadium there other than being a particular shape. There are a lot of different ways. You can design a football pitch and wembley notoriously has the biggest one so That was something that they're playing on yet. Another thing for ted to laugh about So that was definitely there what things did. How about ted's impressions. Did you enjoy ted's voice. Yes obviously leaning in on just extraordinary comedic performer. Jason's snl character work. I feel like you got. Jason cast on board you. Give them the opportunity to dance. You give them the opportunity to do funny voices characters all the things that he does. This is a really really. Have you been feeling is. You're really really good. Sling played was just is really good and i really really enjoyed. I like you said earlier. Like this is ted episode where he really kind of gets all his greatest hits in there from the emotional vulnerability to the bits to The one liners to the jokes to all of it. He also brings up classic season. One villain bully ronny. Who is somebody that intend lassos childhood. Perhaps in the childhood of jason's today davis. I desperately want this to that. This is jason today. His childhood bully was mentioned in season. Wine in the episode. Where ted is really talking to roy about stepping back and ted says something like i learned some big lessons on in elementary school. One is if little ronnie thoug- offers candy bar. You don't say you don't need you get to have out of there because there's a good chance he poop in it as there's really funny joke in in the first season and this season we get yet again ted just has an aside talking to dr fieldstone about ronnie vouch. Serving people asked the sandwiches so really funny callback..

"I've talked about that a bit along the way. But i think that there's i don't know there's all the armchair therapy psychoanalysis of ted laso like the self-loathing component. There's like there's like sort of a reflection of what sharon's field purports to do versus. What ted in his viewpoint of himself as professional what he purports that to mean that there is this this parallelism. That somehow comes into conflict. As well i think is for me it especially with this week. And it's it's a credit to this episode and seeing the way that this first few these sessions played out that it makes it makes a good measure of sense to me that this was going to react all this stuff absolutely absolutely and you said wounded bird. I mean we got a lot of wing flapping going on here. I really did like how dr fieldstone just let him do it. And just let it go. And then she said i think sitting would be best after all of those antics and not responding to him. She's a great foil for ted. And i know that she's not intending to be a foil but he's trying to shuck and jive his way and like trying to like make performance out of it right like it's all very performed of what he's doing and he's trying to like move his hands around and just act all over the top and expecting a that to be something that she will respond to and her response is perfect which is no response which is not even acknowledging and i really liked that. She said the session began the minute. You walked in because clearly like that means that. She's reading all that as part of his nature right like i diagnosed you. The second you walked in the door. Josh like i said from the west wing it very reminiscent of that how therapists just in total control and understanding that. It's not about that. It's about the person coming to their own realization. About letting that person realize what's going on that's when it's going to sink in no matter how well you realize it as the therapist. I'm speaking as therapist. I'm not a therapist but it really feels that way to me. And so. I really like how that played out. Also loved the speaking of birds the actual bird there with the. I don't know where those things thermometers like. What are those things chachis. Yeah a little playful thing. It's probably somewhat soothing. Metronome adjacent keeping the pulse. It's obviously a good idea. You know i don't. I don't know that. I have a ton more to say about what's going on with ted quite yet. Like i feel like what's going on with ted. This week is consistent with where we've been with him and really where we left him. And i felt like i suppose like i'm not. I'm not mad that we've seen that. We saw all that we saw this week utility for it. I don't know that. I necessarily need to see all of this stuff so i wonder you know in that regard. I do think that this feels like something that could have been tacked on a little bit late. But maybe we're wrong. I have no idea. I think the point being that like if there is a huge forward momentum development. It's absolutely what's up with nate and it's concerning it is. It is very concerning that. Nate is behaving the way that he's behaving especially by the end of the episode. You know what he says to colin is not great but the way that he the way that like the show like. I thought it was really interesting the way that they filmed this antonio that like we're not even looking at nate raining out. Will you know i'm comfortable. We can't even see that like like this is our show. We can't wake showing you already. Violence on ted last this is this is tough. We don't want this famously taxi driver. The martin scorsese robert deniro joint. He's very troubled individual right and we see ultra violence in that movie. Not spoil anything. But bloody bloody ultra virus but there is a moment in the movie where he has a phone conversation that is ostensibly a normal phone conversation that is supposed to be like him completely not connecting with someone and it gets so awkward at the camera just pans away and looks down the hallway as he continues to have the conversation offscreen because that is the thing that we can't see right and i felt very similar about this thing with nate for sure i mean with a conversation. You're mentioning with colin. Nate him back for the first two thirds of it right. He won't even turn around right because collins not even worth looking at that in and of itself says like you're not worth looking at. I don't wanna see you like that is a thing. But when we as the audience aren't allowed to see a thing that's happening sends a very different message and it makes. It seem a lot more horrible so it was. It was a lot. It was a lot and i don't. I don't think anybody feels good about it. Like i don't know the feedback. I've seen on twitter anywhere on the internet on our discord. Like none of that is feedback. Where everyone's like. Oh man nate's in a great spot. I love seeing that. Anyone feel good about it. Everyone feels super bad bad. He's leaving this poor kid out like it's already not good. He is saying to One of the athletes on the team. That's not okay. A but especially like the way that he treats will at the end of it is is Is such an esscalation when he's already been pretty rough with him throughout the season and man. I'm so i'm so concerned about about where where this is going. Not concerned in the sense that like. I don't think that there's like a good plan in place from a writing perspective again. Trust the process here. But i think that this speaks to you know In response to again. I'm going to do like the higgins like gagging noise every time. I have to talk about ten laso backlash.

"Way to handle it. But it certainly away. You need to speak with nate. Our boy nate his having some struggles. Here in head space season two episode. Seven of ted lasso. We're gonna talk about it today. Apologies for getting the podcast up a tad bit late it happens. What are you gonna do. We're here now. We're talking about it all. We want to get feedback from you. Ted lasts poster. Recaps dot com or email address you could also talk to antonia and i in the pusher recaps patron discord where we have. The ted lasts channel. It is vibrant. We've got a lot of action in their lots to draw from for our conversation today first of all and said hey how you doing. I'm doing. I'm doing fine. This is a holiday weekend. So yeah we're a little late but relaxation in our in. Our on our ends was Hopefully appreciated by and hopefully people can understand that. Yeah it was really hard to like. Get into the right head. Space podcast about ted last so today i think probably the biggest thing was just figuring out where to sit down the couch. Do i sit in this chair drilling it. Yeah don draper. I gotta say don draper was like that whole scene where ted is like trying to sit down across from dr fieldstone was deeply cringe-worthy in a way that was a really awful. I wanna shout tad librarian todd librarian. Who says the same thing. The whole seekers of ted on the couch was almost too crazy for me but ending with the doctor saying probably sitting his best killed me. It was really hard for me to watch. Ted sit down in therapy but the don draper was very.

"I just feel like we're going to get into that territory again in probably worse than before because it's going to take something to get him into the area where i think beginning. We said he's going to be. Which is in dr fieldstone's office talking to her really exposing some of the things that make ted tick and that really make his that impact. His worldview some of the times when season one is at. Its best is when that's happening those moments are coming. It's just a matter of when not a matter of if i think you're right. That hallway seemed really typifies. This doesn't in a subtle way. They don't ringer seen they're probably last. No more than a minute a minute and a half tops. oh yeah. Sharon's doing that. Classic therapist thing where she knows what's going on she. She sees the heart of it she will. She will wait a full fricken year for ted to come out with it. Yes you diocese. Domenici met him right. she won't bring it up. she won't do it. She'll try to get ted to get there. But if ted doesn't get there for two years she'll gladly take one hundred fifty bucks an hour. Show wait for ted to save where she says. Yes tactic what has to happen. He has to get there and she can only do what you can to not quite lead the way but maybe like illuminate the way a certain degree in the way the did with really hitting his own face with isaac honestly my absolute favorite shots at the whole show they were terrified to that was so good jumps behind ted or maybe it was ted behind isaac either way very very like. Yeah very funny. Classic roy cat. It was really nice to spend some time with isaac as a character. I got his catchphrase mamadou. We saw him celebrating the the five aside which is by the way. This is the football. That's being played there. He's a very popular game in the uk. Especially the way that that's played on a smaller pitch in an enclosed space with the smaller goals With less people on the field extremely popular recreational activity love to see that get worked in love knowing that that was part of roy tense origin story and part of his His just his coping mechanisms as a player was to get back to his roots. There are people from different countries that have different versions of this people in america now are still playing football. Like that's the thing that is growing in popularity which is very similar sort of an indoor version of a smaller version of soccer. I know kids are playing that now. Extremely popular in south america and it leads to a different kind of play style. When you when you grow up playing like this you have to be much more efficient in space instead of taking the ball into an open area. And then sprinting for it. You really have to learn how to do. Some of the tricks that isaac was doing in this episode. Where you know. you're fainting. You're you're doing a lot with your hips and your feet. It's just really fun to watch. I thought the football looked excellent in that scene where they were doing that so it was really fun to see how that played out. I thought that was a great way to bring isaac back to what he loved about the game because it was presented such a fun thing to see people playing that way. I know that people love that. So that was great. I like you love spending time with isaac. It wasn't isaac on a throne. Is the secret santa purveyor but it was. It was nonetheless probably the most..

"Sparty me too. I am the law. I want to be in that pre-ticked punch. That's where i would like to be my guide if you're feeling cheeky. Yes this one is pretty cheeky. I really that was a great moment for the team. And certainly a great moment for higgins. I don't know if we're going to go back and fill in the blanks on how higgins has become more popular. If there's a specific thing was he involved in any kind of dubai air backlash and is that something that the show knowing that they had already written the ten episodes in knowing that that was the thing that was on the table. Back referenced by building this plot into this christmas episode that they wrote after or is it just a thing that it's a subtle like okay. The ted lasso way the vibes and the spirit of community and the sacrificing for each other like is that shown by how close knit the team is. Now as opposed to years past when the higgins's would only get two people and is that also by way of saying what we've said if you other episodes which is that higgins's quietly like a very stabilizing and positive force at afc richmond quietly meaning in a way that we don't really always see play out in the storylines. It's just been a little bit of hints. Like where he he absolutely knows the details about the personal lives of just all the random people working there He's willing to go move his desk wherever he's the one bringing in dr fieldstone. He's the one pushing jamie tart to come. Back like maybe higgins really is the secret sauce. That's going to be part of why. Afc richmond takes off. And then that's a ted lasso thing. Because ted lasso really helped higgins come out of his shell and helped get past his guilt over. What he did with rupert unhelped. Takings really stand up for himself against rebecca and really changed where higgins was in terms of. Afc richmond so ultimately this flows from the ted lasts way. So it's a very positive representation of ted's impact on the club for sure and a really really funny way to do it. I can't wait to talk about all the specifics of these members of the team that are there..

"I mean. they've only got twenty to go. So i don't know about that i just don't know and that twenty six hundred twenty two but i just don't know about the power dynamic of that and how the show would deal with that and the answer is probably really wouldn't care and it wouldn't make it nasty but that's something very real but i think the show should consider in. The writers hopefully considered when they were deciding whether to bring these two together. I'm just very quickly. There is like the the win loss. Draw record on the board and the in the background. So we know it's a marker of how much time has passed. It's also giving us a real sense of how the team is doing. what are their. What are their prospects for restoring to their former glory such as it were at this point based on the record antonio can they still do it is this is it. Is it hairier than than. Perhaps they would like right. Now it's definitely harrier they'll probably have to go. Fourteen wins for losses and four draws or something to that effect to get themselves into the position. They need to be in. But it's it's doable. It's absolutely doable. If the team takes on an upward trajectory from the holiday period on it's something we sort of loosely mentioned this but in order for them to get back to the premier league. there's two main paths. They could finish first or second in the championship which is seemingly unlikely at this point and probably from a story perspective not what they ever wanted to have be the case because there's less drama in that however the third place team will also go up but the third place in the championship is not determined by just at the end of the season. Who has the amount of points for third place what happens is the third fourth fifth and sixth place teams. Go into a four team playoff playoffs of our be. Good ted doing the. Jim moran you. Could you could so the those teams go into a playoff. So you don't mean to finish even third or you definitely don't need to finish first or second to come up. You can finish sixth and win that playoff and make your way into install. Get promoted i in order to get to those positions six place in the championship. You're typically in the low seventies over the last several years low to mid to high seventies. So what let's just set it at like seventy six points that they need and say that that would probably get them comfortably into sixth place and into that playoff. That means they need to get fifty points. Fifty points from their remaining twenty four matches and if Windsor worth three draws worth one. You can do the math on that to get to fifty points. You're going to have to win a vast majority of those matches and we're looking at a team right now. that's four. four t four wins four losses and fourteen draws something significant has to change for them to get to the point where they're winning now. One of the things with the time jump. We don't know what's broken. We don't know why they're not scoring. We know we had dr fieldstone earlier in the season and she was helping these players and there was a big discussion about whether oh zero wins. Zero losses and eight draws was working since then. It looks like they've improved but not significantly. They're still primarily drawing. So i don't know i just we don't. We don't really know what's happening. We thought jamie tart coming back to. The team might help spark some kind of team. Everyone great one scene for jamie tired here..

"She's giving him shit about not winning so i thought that was. I thought that was really fun. Fun scene and a way to bring shannon back into the story a senior this season yet so that was really nice. Rebecca's not always under game. She blows the thing with higgins trying to make her look good right after she says you need to be three or four steps ahead and not reactive higgins is basically saying like hey. You really helped me. And she doesn't get it and she's exposed. So that was. I think higgins being quietly. Good good at his job. Good at what. He does being the one who hired dr fieldstone being the one. Who's pushing a lot of these buttons. Just higgins being competent. And good at. His job is something. I'm interested in seeing continued to evolve. Your i just wanna see higgins two bumbling full and higginson stammerers i wanna see higgins being effective at what he does and i think we're getting hints at that throughout these episodes and i like seeing that continue to develop. I also like higgins I think that was. She's a rainbow playing on higgins ringtone. There momentarily. I laughed at the diamond dogs adjourning with their little quiet. Howls that was very funny. And not for nothing made ended up being right about the that they needed to talk to dr fieldstone about jamie and not do the lead tasso shit. So i think it's funny to see all these characters just of being wrong in the moment. Not everybody's infallible on this show. No one is infallible. Really and i think that's that's really effective. I will be interested to see the adversity that dr fieldstone experiences. What what is her character. Drama going to be as it plays out. She can't be the one who's always right and is always pushing the right buttons. I mean she can be the mr biaggi. But i think it's a more interesting character if we have something more to we need to know more about her other than that like she. She doesn't want sugar and so she gets a gift. Basket of bottled water. There is there is more there. But you know i think i think right. Now there's more plot function than than character. There and i agreed that i want. I wanna see. I wanna see more character but again like if we are treating these. Three episodes asked the premier then. I think they've given us enough. Were the for the quote unquote premier. I feel like she's defined enough right now for a very very early foray into an important character into a series regular. I think we'll get there. It may take some time on especially as like other characters from the are starting from season. One are starting to get more get more more play time. Speaking of which player of the match this week for me is just like a very easy sam and like in any other episode. It would have been nora. But i think sam sam does take that's right. I think that's right. Sam's the player of the match for me as well. I'd like to wrap it up here. I want to point out that the credits music we talked about the beginning song being hand in my pocket by alanis morissette and ted being sane but overwhelmed and lost but hopeful the credit song in the post credits or the the the end credits was column. My friend from the album..

"So we could see a very hilarious kind of world where afc richmond is struggling for money and has to pander to local businesses or local sponsors or the kind of sponsors who are interested in seeing their name and the premier league. Because it's not happening right now so that could be funny and could be a thing we do. But there's an opportunity for an ugly fallout. I also want to go back to mars bars. Mars also in the discord posted a link to a podcast episode. That jason sued acres. Brendan hunt did with brunei brown. Who is a social worker. Professor researcher thinker. Somebody who. I didn't know very well before that podcast. I've only really heard the name. I loved that podcast. I wanna thank mars bars posting. That was from october of two thousand twenty. So it's from before the show was where the show is now. The show had blown up obviously but maybe not to the extent and hurt their take the way they talk about the show in that podcast is unique in very specific to some of the things that that professor has researched and some of the things that went into the show. It seems very clear to me that her research influence the writing of the show. They say as in that podcast. So it's a fascinating podcast. And i wanna thank mars bars. Were putting that in the discord. I would not have been able to listen to that if not so. Thank you very much for sharing. That and i encourage people to check that out. The podcast unlocking us. If you go into the podcast feet of it. You're not going to be able to find the older episode but it is on spotify if you have spotify which another itself is a terrible corporation to that point. Your friend in mind the great brooklyn's dead had been messaging me about ted lasso. They said that this was their favorite episode by far so far i make deserting by far but said said this has been my favorite episode of ted laso. What did they say. I love the rebecca. Norris stuff and how roy played into it and how kelly handled jamie and his interaction with dr fieldstone all the secondary pots. Really great this week. But the sam story line was just incredible in the whole team standing in solidarity with his protest in the way ted gave him a platform to speak about it to the press was also powerful and good. I look forward to seeing this build. It's interesting to see a show on a network like apple. Tv which is so connected to producing products not just a streaming service tackled. The idea of a corporation impacting country and the government's involvement in it. Yeah very salient points. Yes yeah i mean that an i are very much kindred spirits in that regard for sure and the foxconn the the iphone construction. The degradation just everything that apple has contributed to definitely not lost..

"Charles. Edgar cheese was the only time it works. Like even this show is acknowledging. This has never worked. It's just a gag. Incidents gags aren't working right now right. Ted's he's digging down to the bottom of the barrel to try to find something like these work scrap. He's put himself in this position. Heated nafta bring jamie tart back like he did not have to do that. This is a result. Of ted's own choices so i. I don't know ted's like i'm out of ideas. You're out of ideas because you changed the question like you change the scenario you probably in a good place. Sam believed in this project and believe you did not need to bring jamie back to win and we can debate till the cows come home. If that's why ted did it. Did he do it. Because of what dr fieldstone says to him when his mind seems to be made up about bringing jamie back she says is everybody okay with not winning. And then that's when we have ca- jamie tart the next day. But sam said like i believe in this project. Yes we've had all these draws but. I believe we're going to win don't you and that's the question i feel like we don't know if ted is answering himself don't you. Do you believe that your methods can actually help this team win. I know you believe in the quality of your methods and helping this team become better. People supporting them providing this environment this caring nurturing environment where people listen to each other and people are pleasant with one another. I know you believe in that. And i know it works but is that enough to win. Football games is that enough to you. Can't just smile your way through financial peril. I wish you could like i wish so. Many lives would be easier. If that's all it took to get yourself out of it but right. It isn't the way like you can't smile about student. Fucking loan debt. It doesn't work that way you know. And so ted lasso ethos as we've talked about over these. There's your drinking game. By the way i said that word again that has been there has been something that i think really has been the subtle theme of this is like what do we do with the effectiveness of this when smiling your way through it and being nice and being kind and being good is not necessarily enough or you want more. That being happy isn't just enough. You want to achieve you want to grow you want.

"Nine nigerian to black out the dubai air with the tape on his jersey so not only does he go from thinking. It was stupid to get rid of it and being willing to just wordlessly question. No questions asked me the face of this thing to step up and be with his teammate. I don't know what it is that dr fieldstone told him. But that seems to speak to jamie tarred who isn't just cool. Now as he puts it to keeley. But jimmy carter. Who really actually maybe gets it a little bit and understands i in his cool enough about it to say like we're got to wear the same kid. Don't we saint team. He's he's not stepping up and saying something that would make the whole situation feel a little more uncomfortable. He's finding a way to make it fit in a way that not only goes for him but goes for the rest of the group. And i thought just whatever dr sharon said to him. We don't even need to see like you're saying it's almost better that we don't but she yet again works magic that said the team loses and the team is now worse off than when before dr sharon came to the team record wise. So the question. I think we're continuing to ask ourselves if we care about the fortunes and the fate of afc richmond football club and not just the members of it is. How do we get there like. How do we get to the point where we're on a heater where we're winning where we go on a run where we go on a copper on where we make a battle our way to six place so that we can get into the playoff to see who gets promoted which we can talk about. I don't know if that's going to be something that comes up on the season but it's a little bit complicated. How they decide who comes back up and so we want to know how. Afc richmond gets there. And i feel like we're going to spend some time over the next couple of episodes especially figuring out because if we're going to have an upward trajectory for their results this season i think it's got start before the year turns calendar wise and their season. I think they've got a really get the ball rolling on that soon. I wouldn't shock me if it's early as the next episode. But i think that's where the rubber has to meet the road. That's the next steps for these people. Yeah i mean you you mention Like the timing on that. And i guess it is. It is the lightest of spoilers to say. But you got it if you have apple tv. Which i assume you do. Unless you're a pirate yar in which case you deserve to be spoiled. Yeah that's the price you pay. The next episode is.

"I i would love to just start off with your take on this on this story that i think dominated so much of the episode and certainly i think rightly the story that a lot of people are talking about coming out of week three. I was so thrilled. That we gotta sam story the way we got it. We've been talking about this even back to our analysis of season one and some of the things we wanted to see more of. And what a very first scenes when. Ted give sam one of the army men. Ted son has given him to protect him. And sam's birthday. Sam talks about how you know. The imperialism of the american army doesn't sit well with him and right away. You realize okay. When as ted is realizing like these guys are from all over like it's it's an interesting opportunity to tell a lot of cultural stories because football really. Is this cultural mix. You've got players from all over the world playing for teams in england and so these locker rooms are are really interesting places to be such that. What what you often find. Is you find like a player who grew up africa and maybe speaks french english. As a result of his time in africa along with any other languages he may speak from just being a native of whatever country and then maybe he goes away as a young player like at age sixteen or seventeen to germany and picks up german and speaks german for five or six years and you. Maybe you're talking about somebody who speaks french german fluently and has some broken english and then maybe moved to england and can communicate with their manager in german because their manager managed in germany or can communicate in french because their managers french but not english. Their english teammates. It's just fascinating the way that these locker rooms exists in football especially in europe and so the opportunity with the sam character being from nigeria and having a background where he was thoughtful and really immediately reflected that back to ted met. I think a lot of us were interested in seeing stories about sam. It was a character. I think they just barely scratched the surface of along with de niro host in season one and of course as we started season two. What are we have. We have a big daddy. Rojo story right away. We didn't really penetrate the psyche. Too much of daddy rojo's and it'd take away. What about what about that. Nightmare scene killing over again. Football's death in a little bit about his love life beyond football. Oh yeah right. We learned so much about dan he got deep into their psyche and dr fieldstone cured him by reminding him of his catch phrase. That football is life. So i don't know we got a lot more depth with sam and i'm so thrilled for it. I am so so thrilled for it and look this this kind of subject. There's i was as i as i talked about on this podcast to subject that you really cannot avoid if you really want to go there. With regard to what modern football is dealing with the issues that modern football reflects modern sport in general and for them to have done so so elegantly with sam to have it be so relatable..

"So the hosts i believe of that. Show this morning. They're the real presenters of that program. Philip scofield holly willoughby fans of the circle. Uk might know the former host or the former presenter of that program one richard mainly Who showed up on the circle. Not playing himself playing just a normal person as a celebrity in a normal person season of the circle so there was always some fun reveals going on there when people realized they'd been talking to richard mainly the whole time. I'm this guy who was a famous television presenter. So that was the show he used to host phillip and holly are the hosts now and So that was itself a real program. something that was not real was the man city director of football. Who was presented there. That was just an actor. That name. Vinai who joe is not even the name of the director of football for man city so that was just they did not have someone associated with the club or even someone playing someone associated with the club in that role. That was just an actor playing a role. Not not anyone real or anything associated like that What else josh. Do you have any free kicks. I definitely have a bunch more. No i think. I have brought up george harrison or would have liked to have brought up george harrison. Because that watching that on the rewatch to just like really hit me again is just very very funny. But the way that connects beyond just being joke is fascinating in the kind of insight that i thought i love getting when talking to you in one of these pods. Yeah no i really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed this week. And i think that there was there was a ton in here and probably a lot more than even know yet. I like the choice of the door and the agent's office closing seemingly on jamie's career and the next shot is the door opening with ted barging in right dr kind of connecting those two things in a way like maybe the to student link good transition if nothing else transition if nothing else it speaking of the dock and ted i love. Ted's read of the doctor about her not eating sugar. And how really. That's just about her. Denying her something. She loves and explaining giving herself a reason why she thinks it's right to do that. Just like ted and video games a really feel like that. Might have been the moment where ted broke through to dr fieldstone. Because she realize okay. This guy's not just a bumpkin. He's actually pretty intelligent. And that was a very off putting way that he read me like that But he's probably not wrong from psycho analyst perspective like the fact that ted set instead of adjusting my relationship to it. I think that really resonated with the doctor she says this is. This is weird like you know this. Is this disarming. This is the way you get to know people it's interesting. I think she starts seeing ted very differently in that moment. Ted's favorite book should i. I don't know want to go in here. He says it'll surprise you that it's fountainhead. Why don't we wait. And see if if taylor has fuck the found thought thoughts right judaism being more important than collectivism. I can understand why. Ted might think that's an interesting perspective for him but that perspective has ruin society more than probably any other perspective. And we're living in it right now so we cannot even engage this fucking book on an academic level. Fuck the foul. Nothing's ruining the world more than that. Toxic ethos ted is a gal -tarian. I don't understand why this would be his favorite book. I think it's a joke but it is a dangerous joke..

"That's his whole thing right. Picks team up and he couldn't do that for danny. But the i'm i'm was characters name. I have to turn on. Clutter irbe the doctor. Not dr star can do. And i thought that was a really interesting way that gonna go with this also speak spanish and french and tastic just like absolute anti. That's the thing that makes ted lasts or being like well. I am out of my league here like this person. She is very impressive to fieldstone. Thank you yes dr fieldstone. of course what a name yeah i. it's it's funny the way they they set up danny row houses thing But like i look. He's the most repressively possible po. Positive person right. That's the whole character of danny rojo's football is life you so enthusiastic and so to have him. How is he even have a crisis of confidence. Right and the answer. Is they engineer. This opening episode crisis of confidence for danny to bring in the sports psychologist into to to show like what you know. They do all the jokes and he's like god michelle and then they kinda and then they kind of figure it out and wind wind and back to sort of worry is at the end and it's very impressive and like it's that's a funny. It's a funny bit that that was that was a funny bit. Also the show again it hits me with like a combo leaves that some were made this television show like i keep saying this over and over again like a believe someone was allowed to make this show. Well like they're in the pub so Ted and coach did and he talks so openly about his experiences in couples therapy. And how how. He feels like he was set up. Unlike like the that is a thing where i think so. Many people have been through that kind of thing. We've like distrust of therapy in that kind of stuff like this person. Just out to get me or i don't think this person's connect you try and help me. You know i've been in these kinds of situations myself. Spoke right to me. And i just found. It's so incredible that this thirty five thirty eight minute comedy can hit these notes so truthfully like these just slices through and finds these just incredible hugh moments i just have. It blows me away. How good it is really does. Yeah i would say so if i were criticism of this episode. It's that the first half of it. Let's say and. I think they know what they're doing here right. The first half of it is very much like status quo. Like let's remind everybody and then it's introducing the conflict with with with danny but like it is kind of like oh are we happy status quo a and i. I watched it and i was like no like this. Doesn't you know doesn't seem right. There's some some feels wrong here. Something feels off but for me. The thing that really brought me all the way back around on it is roy kent. Yeah that's a great beep beep blah is the rich which he like. I appreciate it in season one. We know that he's got his yoga group of of older ladies. That don't know who he is and don't care and he just goes out and hangs out with them and they talk about their things and he doesn't have to worry about being roy. Kent and i liked that. We never saw them in season two. We see them. And i'm okay with that to feel like okay. We did that bit and now we're seeing him settled down with them to watch reality. Tv and and have drink wine and stuff and like i love. I love that i love. Jamie's the show to charges on the celebrity sex island or whatever it is totally good And then and then his grappling with keeling wants him to do commentary and he doesn't wanna be a talking head and he's coaching his nieces soccer team and you know he. He curses at them. 'cause it's roy kent and but like i just. All of that made me really happy..

"Let's talk about somebody who is no longer on the pitch. Let's talk right can't And so roy can't has retired We got we have that answer now. Like definitely felt like a sendoff of sorts at the end of season. One and we had some questions about like Like after allegations he going to actually still be valuable to the team. Or at least i had that question you. I'm like no probably not and so now we get to see like what does roy can look like after. Afc richmond after his his time as a as a professional soccer player. And now he is. He's coaching babies team. Which is amazing. He and keely or not only still together but like really together and seem to be working really really well together. He's still seeing the yoga moms. He's watching reality. Tv he seeing jamie tar on love island which i wanna talk about it a bigger way a little while after we're done talking about roy specifically he's going to have this really big hearted speech to rebecca about like. Don't settle for fine like you deserve somebody who's gonna make you feel like you've been struck by lightning so there's a lot going on with roy emotionally in. They're still figuring out how to lake. Have him on the show and it feels like they've succeeded in that effort. But then there arwa these possible like career path questions right antonio like He's he's certainly welcome to come back He seems to not be wanting to come and watch richmond play. I'm sure it's very triggering for him. Does that wind him in You know a wind up at dr fieldstone office at some point in time does it get him into a coaching position he is. He's a coach. Now of sorts is certainly a question. That's on on the on the table and then there's also dislike sports caster possibility which seems more interesting to me Then maybe it would have without this ending by interesting..

"He goes overboard in his relationships. And we certainly have a hint about it here with the multiple dancers dated since the last answer he would ever date so i don't want break coach beard but i think it would be interesting to see a coach beard that that changes somehow or is in a trance or a few state coach beard. I think we could. I think we could do something fun with coach in the therapy without unpacking coach beard and really trying to solve coach beard. I think therapy could make them up. I really talkative guy for example or changed his cadence for a brief moment. Because that's that's coach. Beard thing great nod by the way to this when he's ranting about there being no harpo emoji guy. Yeah yeah he's talking about the groucho which we call that. The warriors g i love i love the idea of coach beard going to see dr fieldstone throughout the season in not us not knowing it until clutch moment. Something has changed. Didn't realize it. Yeah and he's been like he's been going to dr fieldstone something like that. I could be could be pretty fun any before we move up. There's a lot to cover still with a lot of different characters in their story. Lines just like sort of like planting flags as we love to do with all these people at the start of their season two stories but before we get out of the out of the diamond dogs entirely We opened on an i. Because of course we open our i and happens to be nate. Is where the season starts Did you have any thoughts and like. Why is that the character to begin with what what stood out to you that like we do. Have this shot. That opens up the season. Where like we're hearing the color commentary on the game and then we open up on. Nate's i like zoom out from there. That is that leading us summer. Obviously it is right like where could it possibly be taking us. If you talk about. Where could it possibly take us. I think that might be a different conversation than where it might or where we think because of course in season one. We have this example. We don't directly open on rebecca's face in season. One we open on the god save the queen sex pistols shots of training and then that sort of breaks down as we talked about in our last podcast. and then we're framed on rebecca's extremely expressive and emotive face. I hand wanting him such such good face acting and they let so much play out with her reactions and emotions and season one so it makes sense to center season one around that and then we end season one on her face as well. Right with the bubble sneaking. Backup on ted and we had the emotional moment. Ted finally drops that hard f-bomb shows us a little bit more of a different side of himself and then the water gets spit in sort of breaks that moment and.

"So a lot of this stuff just logically doesn't really add up and i think we should yada yada it away but at when it comes to like an emotional beat like this like what a character dr fieldstone would have seen and experienced. I do think the show doesn't yada yada or wave. The hand over those sorts of things. And i think it will be very interesting to see how she intended get all over. The course of the season Is there anything you want to get into. Further with danny rojo's and that's ended the everything that happens with With earl the greyhound. Inn endangered phillip. We've touched on a lot of it. We probably have not done enough justice to the dream sequence and he kicks the cartoon dog it is just like splashed in comical amounts of blood and then wakes up to football. His death is he is surrounded by women alone. Let me stop down on two things one. I laughed so hard you can are low white at his line. Read of ood gamesmanship from the keeper like when the dog. The cartoon dog is clapping his paws together as laugh so hard that line read the football is death thing i mean. Look we acknowledge. That danny is sitting there next to a couple of women. Do you think that that is meant to be a character. Note like danny row in a dark place. He's waking up in a pile of bodies maybe he got a little too drunk like or is this just a normal night for dan hero. I i suspect it's a normal night for danny. I think so too unfortunately. Or fortunately i guess is the case normal night for danny danny row has much like quiz kid. Donnie smith for magnolia has a lot of love to give is the takeaway. There are no your for me to just bring magnolia into the conversation via the william h macy character. I suspect this is. This is what danny's nights. I also suspect it's it's likely that we won't get too much..

"This season obviously like his family is a huge part of his life in there for his character and his his character's journey but it wasn't lost on me. Either that in this very episode right away in season two if not like right right away but here in the very start of season two. He's getting text messages from his from his wife with a picture of all these ties that his kid thought was a really funny joke because of all the ties so that threat is still there. It is definitely very unresolved. And i think that that is the kind of stuff that probably will come up with with. Dr fieldstone may come up based on some other story lines. That may rear their head. I think this season which. I think we can talk about a little while when they start talking about a different character perhaps sharon fieldstone dr fieldstone. I think that she's a cool character. I like that. She's not buying into the diamond dog nonsense right away. Why should she you know she's a professional issues. She's walking into this room is everyone's just like dancing around so nice. Did the you like this whole thing. Like this is a very strange thing to walk into. Like i do not blame her. Offer not biting at this especially from like a losing team. You know like wow. I'm surrounded by nincompoops like we have. We have to earn this. And i think that. I think that we likely will likely will. But also we know very little about her beyond the effectiveness of her work as she says to ted. Do you think you're good at what you do. I believe you. i'm twice as good And that she's able to like fix danny after one conversation or at least get him in In enough of a shape that he can make the gonna say this right the corner kick the corner. God the corner kick. I have a lot of questions about how that works just physically in terms of physics. But anyway we could. We could do that off. Line that like she demonstrates that and she watches it happened. She walks away. We don't we don't know anything. Beyond that coach birds. She seems nice. She might be incredible. Rebecca didn't see him especially nice and now if she is deeply loved within the richmond community at this point certainly by many people in the audience. I think it's a give it time kind of thing and also i'm really curious to know what our dr fieldstone's experiences. What what has her life look like. Living in the world of sports psychology working at a highly professional level. Who has she encountered. What might each triggering about ted in the diamond dogs in in her life. And what are the things that may spring out from that..
